=/\=Where do you want the Hospital wing power to go?=/\= she asked?

The bridge had slowly, but surely became silent as everyone was working hard to get the ship to what it had been before. The silence was broken when Katie spoke up.
"Commodore if we are going to get the shields powered up enough to be able to survive the nebula we are going to have to take all of our weapons offline." Katie said.
Paikea immediately checked his systems and he unfortunately had to agree with her. The extra power from the hospital ship was helping, but it wouldn't keep them alive long. At most it would give them a few more hours, and that was it.
"Commander Paikea do you agree with this?" Cavit asked.
"Yes, Lt. Anderson is correct, the tactical systems would give us about 36 hours of full power the shields," Paikea responded.
"We can't do that, there might be a ship outside this nebula who still wants to destroy us, if we don't have weapons, we are as good as dead," Spiro said almost disgusted that they were talking about shutting down weapons.
"Commodore, we don't need weapons right now, and as of know we don't know when we are going to leave this damned nebula," Paikea said offering his opinion.
T'Mar didn't speak through all of this, she was just taking in the information that most of her senior staff was telling her. It must of been a strange feeling, knowing that they could be destroyed if they left the safety of the nebula. What was worse was the fact that they didn't know why they were out here.
"Commander, shut down tactical," T'Mar ordered before turning to the rest of the staff." I want repair reports within the hour and after that we are going to have a brief staff meeting."
"Aye captain," was the response from the crew as they went to work.
=^=Bridge to Sickbay, how are things going down there?=^= Paikea asked finally finding a way to check on the injured and on his friends, Illito and Lianna.

=^=Okay thats great to hear, keep us apprise of any important information and Doctor we will be having a meeting within the hour. If you please I can set up a two way console so that you don't have to leave the injured.=^=

In all of this commotion Paikea had noticed something that was troubling him. Their current ambassador had said or done nothing since they had been attacked by the unknown foe. Paikea was certain that she knew who had attacked them and why.
"Ambassador why were we attacked?" Paikea asked finally saying what he was thinking. Everything on the bridge stopped as every pair of eyes came to lay rest on the Ambassador Rela.

Lianna straightened the vest and fastened it over her clothing, almost immediately she could see shadows deeper and more defined than before. She patted Phantom on the head as she slipped her feet over the side of the biobed, listening to the doctor as she spoke.
“Or you can wait, and someone else will be able to help with you it,” The doctor replied. “Lt. Yamill said it may be a structural flaw, you might want to have an engineering team check it out, after they finish what they need to do.” She did go on to say. “Yes, you can leave,”
Lianna knew that if there was structural damage in her quarters it would not be safe. “Please let Engineering know about my quarters. “ She wasn’t happy with the doctors thoughts but also knew the wisdom of her words. “If you think it’s best I can wait, but please give me something to do so I am not just sitting here taking up space and not helping.” Lianna paused. “I can ‘see’ now so won’t need Phantom so much and can help care for those less injured.” As long as she wore the vest it was like she was living in a world of shadows instead of darkness.
<Tag Illito>
She was just slipping from the bed to stand next to it when she heard Lt. Cmdr. Apiranas voice inquiring about the status of sickbay.

She then worked on fixing the ship. =/\=Bridge to Commander Gray=/\= She heard.

“I can ‘see’ now so won’t need Phantom so much and can help care for those less injured.” Lianna said.
“I’m not sure what you can really do to help,” Illito said. The situation in sickbay wasn’t that serious, and Illito didn’t like having unqualified people helping. But she saw that Lianna didn’t want to just do nothing. Illito looked around sickbay quickly, and noticed that Lt. Avel was concerned with something he could probably be helped with, but she really didn’t need him to dislike her anymore than he already did.
“Just a second, let me check with someone, see if you can help them,” Illito said.
<Tag Lianna>[/color]
“Lieutenant Avel, how are things going?” Illito asked, smiling, making an attempt to be friendly.
“Fine,” was his terse reply.
“Do you need any help?” she asked.
“Not from you.”
“What about from someone else?”
“Who?” he asked, a little curious.
“A civilian, she wants to be useful, and I though you might be able to use the help.”
“I can do my job.”
“I know. But right now your job has gotten worse, we have enough injured here that anyone can use help. I would, but I’m filling out confidential medical reports.”
“Yes. I can work with her.”
“Thank you,” Illito replied, and sighed as she returned to Lianna.

=^=Bridge to Sickbay, how are things going down there?=^= Paikea asked.
=/\=Fine, no serious injuries,=/\=Illito replied. =/\=Actually there are relatively few people down here. And we have a civilian, Lianna, that just volunteered to help.=/\= Illito said, smiling.
=^=Okay that’s great to hear, keep us apprise of any important information and Doctor we will be having a meeting within the hour. If you please I can set up a two way console so that you don't have to leave the injured.=^=
=/\=I don’t think I’ll need that. Lieutenant Avel can handle the people here,=/\= If Illito’s voice tensed a bit at Lt. Avel’s name, it was barely noticeable, and shouldn’t be noticeable to anyone who wasn’t looking for it. =/\=and most of them are simply here to be sure they get their rest.=/\= Illito continued. She knew that her duty was to sickbay, but she also knew that the crew, especially the senior staff members, had a tendency to become injured, then not come down to sickbay. This would be the best opportunity Illito would have to check that everyone was fine. And she liked doing staff meetings face-to-face.
Illito returned to Lianna. “What were you saying before the call came through?” Illito asked.

[ Somewhat of a back post but not really]
Lianna really wanted to be useful. If she couldn't be, she knew she'd be on her way home if she didn't do something. “I can ‘see’ now so won’t need Phantom so much and can help care for those less injured.” Lianna said.
“I’m not sure what you can really do to help,” The doctor said. “Just a second, let me check with someone, see if you can help them,” She continued. Lianna heard and saw the doctor move towards another crewmember nearby and speak to them briefly. She took this brief silence to look around sickbay, using all her senses to pick up the atmosphere and the tone within the workspace.
Phantom had settled at her feet, his harness no longer needed and even he relaxed once Lianna had placed the net over her shoulders. He knew the significance of the article of clothing. He knew what it meant and the freedom for both which it gave them.
Lianna had just moved to join Lt. Avel and the doctor when the COMM came alive and Lt. Cmdr. Apiranas voice was heard. She listened and noted the infractions and tone in the doctors voice, and in her thoughts. Just as quickly once the COMM was closed the doctor turned to Lianna.
“What were you saying before the call came through?” Illito asked.
“Nothing Ma’am. I’m just glad I can help and not sit by doing nothing.” Lianna stated as Phantom joined her at her side. Liannas hand straying to rest atop his head. She turned to Lt. Avel and waited to be told what to do.

“Nothing Ma’am. I’m just glad I can help and not sit by doing nothing.” Lianna stated.
“I know the feeling,” Illito said, smiling. “Fortunately there’s a cure.” Lianna seemed to be able to find Lt. Avel fine, so Illito left to work on compiling, but kept on an eye on them, and was surprised, happily, that they seemed to be getting along fine. Illito guessed that it was just her that Avel had a problem with.
---------
“Hello,” Lt. Avel greeted Lianna, when she came over. “I’m Lieutenant Avel, and thanks for the help you’re offering. Do you have any past experience in the medical field?” he asked.
<Tag Lianna>[/b]
“That’s good,” he replied. “It will make this easier, as I don’t really have time to just list the basics, although I would if necessary. But, I hate to ask again, but I want to be sure, you remember the basic steps?”
<Tag Lianna>[/b]
“Then let’s get started,” Lt. Avel said cheerfully and headed to the patient he viewed as needing the help the most. He noticed that Lianna followed him closely, although he had also noticed that her eyes seemed…off.
“Here,” he said, handing a dermal regenerator to her, and holding Lianna’s hand over the wounded leg. “Hold it over her leg while I heal some other injuries,” he instructed her.

Lianna smiled slightly as she moved to join the Lt. “Hello, “I’m Lieutenant Avel, and thanks for the help you’re offering. Do you have any past experience in the medical field?”
“Yes sir I do. I have some training as a field medic.” she said as she and Phantom walked beside him to where one of the injured lay.
“That’s good, It will make this easier, as I don’t really have time to just list the basics, although I would if necessary. But, I hate to ask again, but I want to be sure, you remember the basic steps?”
“No sir, it’s fine, really. I know basic first aid and field medicine so should be alright.” She hated feeling as if her blindness gave people reason to think she was dumb too.
“Then let’s get started,” he replied as they stopped and he handed her a dermal regenerator. “Here.”
“Hold it over her leg while I heal some other injuries,” he instructed her.
She let out a sigh and glanced down at Phantom who had stayed by her side.
“Lieutenant, I mean no disrespect but I do know how to use the instruments and while wearing the net I can see almost as well as a sighted person.” She went to work on the leg wounds and grew silent waiting for him to yell or something. People tended not to understand and that’s why she hadn’t bothered trying to learn a trade and this was her first step towards independence. People would have to understand eventually or she would go home and live out her life in the dark and alone.

OOC: Joint post between Lianna and my alter ego (Avel), lol...
“That’s fine,” Lt. Avel said. “But you don’t have the training required of a Starfleet medical officer. This isn’t about you seeing, this is about your experience,” he explained. “And frankly, I don’t care if you can see or not, as long as you can do the work safely, but I’m not just going to let anyone perform elaborate surgery,” he explained, sort of patiently. But sort of not.
Lianna sighed as he spoke. "I never said I was going to perform surgery." she shook her head slightly. "If you'd rather I go away, I can." People like him irked her and it showed. It was totally about her lack of sight, people made excuses all the time for her lack of sight and that was what this felt like.
“I’m not treating you differently than I would treat anyone who wasn’t a member of my staff but still wanted to help. You have to understand, at the moment, I’m responsible for your actions. Yes, I’m probably going to watch your every move like a hawk. But if you want to leave, you are welcome to. Your offer to help was appreciated,” Avel snapped. He disliked the fact that she had volunteered to help, but now wanted to decide how he should behave toward her.
If she thought it was about her sight, that was fine, it really wasn’t his problem. He would probably have to apologize to Illito if the civilian left, but right now he really didn’t want to deal with this. If the patient load was a little lighter than the normal battle injuries, that was a good thing, but he was still too busy to argue.
Lianna shrugged and continued to work. He was right, to a certain point and she would let it go. This was going to take some getting used to by all of them. "I'm sorry." she said quietly. Keeping her mind on her work and trying to ignore the thoughts flooding into her head.
Avel nodded. “Me too,” he said, grateful that the conflict, was, for the moment, set aside. He was sure that it had not been allayed, but he planned to be far away and have the conflict happen to someone else. He thought that Lianna seemed to be behaving in a way he had noticed was far more common to civilians than Starfleet officers, the idea that the individual’s preferences counted for more than the ability to work together. An idea that he did not agree with.
Lianna finished working on the patient before her and looked up. "Who do you want me to help with next?" she felt like running and hiding but knew that this was neither the time nor the place. This was why she was here after all, to make her place in the world. She wanted so much to fit in, to be part of something and yet, she felt so alone.
“The next most injured person is Lt. Hall,” Lt. Avel said, and walked over to Hall. He glanced at the wound, then at the patient’s face, which was a little pale. “Blood loss,” Lt. Avel muttered. “How did it happen?” he asked Hall, audible now.
“I hit a wall when I fell,” Lt. Hall replied.
“I see,” Lt. Avel answered, then turned to Lianna. “Do you know how to perform an autosuture?” he asked.
Lianna had used basic tools so knew most of the basic things needed to care for injuries of this sort. She listened and watched the Lt and nodded. "Yes sir, I do." She didn't want to anger him again, already feeling very small next to the man.
“Good. Do that,” he said, then left to care for another patient nearby. The use of the dermal regenerator had proven to him that Lianna had a steady hand and knew how to handle the tools. But he kept an eye on her, in case she needed help, or complications arose, as they often did.
"Thank you Sir." she said in a low voice. Breathing a little easier when he moved away but knew too that he wasn't trusting her and probably never will. Most medical personnel felt as if strangers in their sickbay didn't belong and she was definitely a stranger. Her hand moved the tool slowly over the wound, keeping her thoughts on the work.
Lt. Avel left Lianna alone for a while well he healed another patient, a small child. “How old are you?” Lt. Avel asked.
“Six,” the child answered.
“Where are your parents?”
“Working. I was at school, but I fell and hit my head,” the child answered, pointing to the spot on his head he had bumped.
Lt. Avel snapped the dermal regenerator off. “Can you count to ten with your fingers?” he asked the child.
“Of course,” the small boy answered, then proceeded to prove it, leaving Avel free to heal the wound without interference.
“Does that feel better?” Lt. Avel asked when he was done.
“Yeah,” the boy answered.
Avel smiled. “I want you to stay on this biobed until your parents arrive. I’ll stop by every once in a while to check how you’re doing, and so will other people,” Avel said, and reached for a coloring book and gave it to the boy to give him something to do while he waited.
After Avel was finished he returned quickly to Lianna’s side, and saw that she was just finished. “Is the patient healed?” he asked.
Lianna looked up just as she was finishing the job. "Yes sir." she stepped back so he could take a look and watched as Phantom left her side for the first time and wandered over to where the child sat. He jumped up, placing his front paws on the biobed and tipped his head looking at the child. He knew better than to move, so as not to scare the child. Phantom stayed still, his dark eyes on the little boy.
The boy leaned forward to the dog, then grabbed one of the paws and shook it, laughing a little. “I’m Jack,” the boy introduced himself, grinning. He had spent most of his life on a starship, and hadn’t seen an animal larger than a fish since he was four and had visited his grandparents on Earth. And two years seemed an eternity to the child.
Phantom let out a small bark and immediately licked the child’s cheek. Lianna glanced over and sent a soft thought to the child ~~his name is Phantom~~. Phantom nuzzled the child’s hand, begging to be petted. He could feel his mistresses acknowledgement of the child and knew it was ok.
Jack laughed at the wet rough feel of the dog’s tongue, but jumped a little at the voice in his head. He studied the animal. “Dogs can’t talk,” he reprimanded it sternly.

Phantom whimpered and lowered his head at the boys sharp tone. Lianna knew it was an act for the boys sake. While she and the doctor moved from patient to patient she kept a watch on Phantom and smiled.
Avel moved quickly on to the next patient, and sighed with relief when he saw the injury was relatively minor, which meant that no one was anywhere close to life-threatening now. As much as he would have liked to enjoy watching the unfolding drama with the boy and the dog, he had a duty to perform. The next patient took him little time, and he didn’t need Lianna’s help; all he had to do was administer an already-prepared hypospray to the patient, to help the immune system fight off infection.
Oblivious to the fact that he was being watched by Lianna, Jack rubbed the back of the dog’s ears. “It’s okay,” he said. “We can still be friends, as long as you don’t talk again,” Jack comforted the forlorn dog with a grin.
Lianna turned back to the job of assisting the doctor, the silence which had formed between the two not all that unwelcome. Phantom could take care of himself and seemed to have his own way of doctoring. He nuzzled the boy and licked his cheek again as if to say he was sorry.
“Who knew?” Avel asked as the Lianna and he turned to help the next patient. “I guess all sickbays should have a dog,” he remarked, smiling. When he had been a child he had always wanted a pet, but that had always been…too impractical.
"Phantom is a special dog, bred and raised for special needs. Caring for those in need is part of what he does." Lianna spoke as she moved with the doctor. Inside she was smiling. She grew silent as they moved to the next patient. Phantom in the meantime was moving closer to the boy until the boy could wrap his arms right around his neck.
“I see,” Lt. Avel remarked, trying not to take what she had just said as an attack on his remark, but having difficulty with it, so he just stayed silent, as he handed a dermal regenerator to Lianna.
The boy laughed. “Boo,” he said, and kissed the dog on the head, and giggled.
Lianna took the dermal regenerator laughing slightly at the young boy and Phantom. Phantom seemed to be enjoying himself and the boy had all but forgotten his hurts.
Avel began doing the necessary healing himself, his attention fully on his work, and a little annoyed with Lianna, who seemed like she was being easily distracted. Admittedly, her full attention wasn’t needed now, but it might well be in the future.
Jack withdrew his mouth quickly. “Pfft,” he said, trying to rid himself of his mouthful of fur.
Lianna ignored the Lt and his obvious annoyance at her. Would he have preferred she not keep an eye on the dog and something bad happened, she had to wonder. She turned back to the doctor paying close attention to what he was doing, knowing now that Phantom didn't need to be watched over so closely. The sooner she could leave sickbay the better, she'd make sure never to darken his door again if she could help it.
Lt. Avel heard the sickbay doors open, and glanced up, to see someone walking through, heavily supported by their friend. “Oh. Light!,” he swore, when he glimpsed the extent of the damage. “Here,” he said, giving Lianna the PADD. “Go down the line of patients listed there, they should be listed in order of severity of injury. Thank you,” he said, then, not waiting for her answer, rushed off to help the nurse who had helped the injured patient to a biobed.
Lianna took the PADD as it was shoved into her hands. Her gaze roaming down the list even before he was gone. "Yes sir." her words echoed after him as she turned the first patient. At least he wasn't looking over her shoulder now, so she was able to relax a little.

Lt. Avel injected a hypospray that caused the patient to become unconscious, the pain no longer felt. Avel injected cellular sutures, to repair the internal organ that had been damaged. As he was waited for this to happen, he used a coagulation activator, to see if he could stop the bleeding as much as possible. The patient temporarily stabilized, Avel called out for Illito. She hurried over.
“I yield to your superior medical expertise,” he said, a little genuine intent behind the words, but it was mostly sarcasm.
“Thanks,” Illito muttered.
Avel nodded, and turned to the man who had helped bring the patient in. “How was he hurt?”
“Engineering repair-associated.”
“Hmm,” Avel replied. “Caused by negligence or dangerous equipment?”
“Neither. It just sort of happened.”
“Perhaps. But I’ll want a full report from the supervising officer, at their convenience, to make sure it‘s this isn’t going to happen again.”
“Understood, sir,” the accompanying ensign replied. “Is there anything else I should do, or should I go back to work.”
“I don’t see anything else you can help with,” Avel said, smiling. “But thank you for what you have done.
Illito smiled slightly, it appeared the man had been stabilized enough now that he wouldn’t have to have surgery performed on him. She used the autosuture procedure, then cleaned the wound of the blood. The man had lost a lot of blood, but his body could make most of the rest of the repairs itself, and no blood transfusion was required. Still, the patient definitely needed to rest for at least a few hours, and preferably the rest would take place in sickbay.
Illito realized after she had healed a few more minor injuries and filled out a bunch more records, that she had a staff meeting to get to soon. She told Avel that she was leaving, and walked quickly to the designated place, to wait for the others to arrive.

Lianna continued to work on the list of patients that Lt. Avel had given her. She wasn't sure how long she'd been working but finally the list on the PADD was almost complete. She took a small break and read through the list once again. There were only a few patients left and they were not bad off at all.
She took this time to check on Phantom and his patient. Jack seemed to be doing well. She checked his wounds to see how they were healing. She patted Phantom on the head and gave Jack a quick smile before moving off to care for the rest on the list.
Lianna glanced over to where the doctor and the Lt. were talking as she went back to work. One thing she wasn't going to do was to let the doctor down.

OOC: Joint post between myself and Lianna.
Ensign Todaro noticed that the civilian seemed finished with the list of patients she had been given, and the Lieutenant was busy working elsewhere and hadn’t noticed. “Do you want to keep working in sickbay?” he asked. “If you don’t want to, you are free to leave.”
Lianna looked up as the ensign approached her. “I just finished the list of injured that I had been given. I don’t know if there is anything else anyone wants or needs me to do.” On one hand she wanted to leave but knew too that engineering hadn’t had a chance to even check on her quarters yet.
“I’m sure there is something else you can do, there always is. Sickbay is rarely a relaxing place,” Nico Todaro replied with a smile. “It would be much of the same work as you were just doing, although it also includes talking to the patients who can’t leave yet for whatever reason.”
Lianna glanced over at Phantom and Jack. “I’d like to help. I can’t go to my own quarters yet anyway.” The longer she wore the vest the more she was able to ‘see’ and the more comfortable she was becoming with her surroundings.
“Oh no,” Nico commiserated. “Well, we are happy to have your help, or, at least, I am,” he said, with a quick, but highly noticeable, glance to the Lieutenant. “By the way, I’m Nico Todaro, but you can call me Nico,” he said. “We’re going to do healing that requires two people, although much of the work is relatively basic.”
“I’m Lianna, and that’s Phantom.” she indicated the dog which was fast friends by now with the little boy on the nearby biobed. She could not help but smile. “Just show me what to do Nico.”
“Sure.” Nico grinned, and walked over to a biobed. Just before they arrived, but while they were still out of hearing range of the patient, he turned to Lianna. “I’m guessing you already know what to do now. Just hold the dermal regenerator over the wound,” he said, in a bored-sounding tone. “This patient has a bit of a history with sickbay, and doesn’t like being here as a patient, so I’m going to try to distract her while you heal. That sound good?” he asked. “Or we can do it the other way around,” he said, shrugging, neither task was particularly interesting.
Lianna laughed lightly sensing his boredom and his attitude towards the patient. Not that she liked sickbay either but she didn’t make it a habit to visit either. She took the dermal regenerator and nodded. “Lets do it.”
“Well, Ensign Kolai, how are you doing?” Nico asked the patient brightly, and noticed that Lianna was starting work.
“As well as can be expected,” Kolai replied, in a depressed tone.
“That’s good,” Nico answered.
Ensign Kolai peered at Nico closely, and shook her head at him. Suddenly she snatched her arm away from Lianna, who had been healing it. “What’s the point in healing the wound?” she asked Lianna.
Lianna looked from Nico to Kolai “Why not? That’s what they do down here.” She was unsure how to respond, being so new on the ship and everything. Her bedside manner wasn’t necessarily the best either.
“So. I’ll only get injured again.”
“Not necessarily,” Nico replied to the patient. “Have you thought about taking a planetside job, as I suggested? It might be more to your suiting,” he said. “Less danger.”
“Have you ever been planetside?” Ensign Kolai asked.
“Yes,” Nico replied.
“Oh,” said Kolai, thinking about it. Nico smiled, and gestured to Lianna to resume healing again.
Lianna started running the dermal regenerator over the wound again. “I have always lived planetside, this is my first trip on a starship.” She spoke as she worked. “How did you get hurt anyway?” she asked, curious.
“Same way I always get hurt,” Kolai replied. “I hit something, or something hit me. In this case it was a console, I hit it when I fell and the ship shook.”
“I was hurt when the ship shook too.” She continued to work on the wound. “What department do you work in?” She felt that keeping the ensign talking would keep her occupied while she worked.
Nico smiled at Lianna, and noted that she was doing a fairly good job keeping Ensign Kolai occupied. “Medical,” Ensign Kolai answered. “I used to be in Security, but that was far too dangerous, all sorts of risks. I thought a sickbay would be among the safest places to work.”
Lianna shook her head. "I was in my quarters, what should have been the safest place on the ship. For me anyway, and I still got hurt."
“Oh no,” Kolai said. “What hurt you?” she asked.
"I'm blind." knowing how dumb that had to sound with the fact she was moving around without any trouble she let out a sigh. She motioned to the dog. "That's Phantom, my guide dog. A bookshelf fell on me when the ship was first hit."
“It would be awful not to be able to see,” Ensign Kolai said, then thought more. “Why do you have a bookshelf if you can’t see?” she asked. Nico shot Kolai a slight glare, then turned to Lianna. “You don’t have to answer that if you don’t want to,” he said, ashamed that his colleague didn’t show more tact.
Lianna shook her head at Nico. "It's ok." she turned back to Kolai. "I have books in braille, as well as PADDS and other items." she didn't mind explaining, it gave her something to do as well as keeping the ensign occupied. She touched the vest she wore. "This allows me to see using me other senses so I can move around like normal people. Otherwise I'd have to use Phantom all the time."
“I see,” Kolai replied. “What’s the vest made of?” she asked, curious. “And what other senses do you use to see?”
Nico could see where this was going, and he frowned. //Don’t tell her you’re telepathic,// he thought firmly at Lianna, hoping she could overhear his thoughts. //Ensign Kolai is afraid of telepaths.//
Lianna nodded slightly "The vest forms a small electrical field around my body so I can 'see' what is nearby." she lied, convincingly. "I depend a lot on my ears as well." she continued.
“Cool,” Ensign Kolai replied.
Lianna finished healing the wound and looked up. "There, all better." she smiled slightly.
“You sure?” Kolai asked. “I still feel that pain.”
Nico pulled out a tricorder, with a few more readings on it than a standard tricorder had. He scanned Kolai’s arm, and then showed her the readings. “You look fine,” he said. “But I’ll send another nurse over in a few minutes to double-check.”
“Thank you,” Ensign Kolai said, speaking specifically to Lianna.
"You're welcome." Lianna said. She turned and with a slight motion of her hand Phantom joined her. She turned to the young boy who looked like he was ready to cry. "I'll bring him back soon. I promise." She turned towards Nico. "Is there something else I can do?"
“Not many more patients here in sickbay,” Nico said. “But there have been reports of an injured person in the lower decks, so I was going to go look for them. Care to help me?” he asked her.

Lianna nodded. “Sure. Phantom will help search for them too.” She gave Jack a reassuring smile. “I promise I’ll bring him back to play when we get done.” Phantom gave Jack a lick on the side of his cheek, dropped on all fours and padded over to his mistress’ side.
“Looks like we’re ready.” she commented before the three headed out of sickbay. Lianna and Nico each carrying a tricorder and a medkit. She moved with the ease of a sighted person. Phantom moved ahead of the two as they began searching each deck individually, sniffing at doorways and at each intersection.
His ears able to pick up sounds they could not hear, smells they could not detect. Lianna used her senses to reach out and find those in need as well. She might not have her sight but she and her counterpart were able to do more than a sighted person in this situation, their senses tuned to find that which was unseen in most cases, the injured in rooms with closed doors or hidden behind debris.

Paikea had been hard at work trying to get things repaired. Their staff meeting would be taking place in fifteen minutes and Paikea wanted to put all of his attention into that. Ambassador's Rela's refusal to speak in front of the crew caused Pai concern, but he sort of understood her reasons. The information that she must of held must be worth dieing for, but right now Pai and every senior officer was thinking of the crew and not her mission.
"Commander Apirana there is a report here for you," an ensign said handing him a PADD. Pai looked at it and was surprised at what he was reading. He actually couldn't believe what he was reading.
"Thank you ensign," Pai said as he walked to Commodore T'Mar and whispered in her ear what was going on in engineering.
"Commander go down there and handle it," T'Mar said getting back to work.
"Understood," Pai said as he headed towards the lift and towards engineering.
When he reached the deck that was main engineering he automatically knew that it would be chaos inside engineering. He didn't want to bother anyone because they were all working hard, but he had to take care of this.
"Commander Gray, can I have a moment please?" Paikea said keeping a straight face.
<Tag Aeryn>
"Commander can you tell me what you think about this?" Paikea asked handing her the report.

"Commander, shut down tactical," T'Mar ordered before turning to the rest of the staff." I want repair reports within the hour and after that we are going to have a brief staff meeting."
Katie stood at her station, her heart pounding, her breathing heavy. As hard as she tried she couldn't focus on the task at hand. All she kept thinking about was the ship chasing them, and the weapons on board the that ship. The thought of dying because the ambassador aboard the Scavenger wouldn't giver herself up to spare the rest of the crew.
How selfish, Katie thought.
Looking over at Paikea Katie noticed he was hard at work doing whatever it was that he did. Katie's station made several noises that forced her attention back on her station. The readout was giving Katie more bad information, causing her hands to shake more than they already were.
"I don't know what to do." Katie said softly.
Looking down at her hands Katie closed her eyes and tried to picture herself back at home, safe and away from the dangers that come with service on board a starship. The warm feel of her house, the wonderful smells of her mothers cooking. Thinking about this Katie felt a calming come over her. Opening her eyes Katie saw that her hands were much calmer now. She then turned her attention to the station.
"I can do this." Katie said taking a deep breath.

Nico saw Lianna tense up beside him suddenly. What is it?” he asked.
<Tag Lianna>
“Which way do you think she is?” Nico asked; his medical instincts taking over as he glanced around the corridor. He couldn’t hear anything, and it felt a little like he was relying on guesses, even though he knew it wasn’t that at all. But no matter where the information really was coming, there was a high chance it was right, and he wanted to find the patient and take her to sickbay.
<Tag Lianna>
Nico ran down the hall to where Lianna had told him she had heard the sound coming, and turned right to look, and see, a young, injured woman. “Just a second,” Nico said, giving the woman an injection to help for the pain, as Lianna caught up. Nico noticed that the woman was missing a commbadge, so he tapped his once, to open a commchannel, then put it on the woman.
=/\=Ensign Todaro to Sickbay, lock on to my commbadge and beam the patient to sickbay.=/\= he said.
The patient’s body disappeared in a shimmering body of blue light.
<Tag Lianna>
Nico turned to Lianna. “I know, you’re probably going to ask why I gave up my commbadge, but it takes less resources from Engineering if they don’t have to scan for a specific life sign,” he explained.
<Tag Lianna>
“Do you ‘sense’ anyone else around?” he asked, as they resumed walking around the deck, looking and listening.
<Tag Lianna>
“That’s good,” he said. “Computer?” he asked. “Are there any reported missing crewmembers?”
“No.”
“Anyone on this deck besides Lianna and myself?”
“No.”
Nico smiled. “Other teams have checked the other decks, so it looks like everyone’s been recovered. Thank you for your help. Relying on the computer doesn’t work that well, but it’s good to doublecheck with it.”
Just then Lianna’s commbadge chirped. =/\=Engineering to Lianna=/\= an unfamiliar voice said.
<Tag Lianna>
=/\=Your quarters have been fixed, and are clear of structural anomalies=/\=
<Tag Lianna>
Nico nodded. “Well, it look like you can leave now.” He smiled again. “I, on the other hand, have another two hours of work.” He thought for a bit. “I can walk you to your quarters,” he offered. “They’re in the civilian section, right? Which is right on my path for walking back to sickbay anyway.”
<Tag Lianna>
Nico left Lianna in front of her quarters, and returned to sickbay, to help heal injuries, and do his job.

"Commander Gray, can I have a moment please?" Paikea said.
“Yeah,” Aeryn replied, turning around to see him.
"Commander can you tell me what you think about this?"
Aeryn read it carefully. “What’s there to tell?” she asked.
"Negligence, Commander you have been reported for negligence by some people in your department," Paikea said softly.
“I know, I read that,” Aeryn replied, warily. “But I don’t think it makes any sense. I’ve just been doing the best I can, and I’d like to know what area the negligence is in.”
Paikea handed another PADD over to Aeryn. She shook her head as she read it. “This doesn’t make any sense,” she said.
“Two people have reported injuries related to the repair that should have been made.”
“And thirty people have reported injuries related to the attack we just underwent! Is that my fault too for not getting out while the enemy was firing at us and using a force field regenerator to manually fix the shields?”
<Tag Pai>
”No,” Aeryn said, her words angry, but the volume of her voice carefully controlled. “It’s not different. What we have there is a symptom of the same problem; I can’t be everywhere, and I can’t fix anything. File all the reports of negligence you want, but I didn’t get us into this battle situation, and if you want to pin all the blame on me, go ahead, but you’re not looking at the real cause of the problem.

“What is it?” Nico asked.
Lianna had been walking along with Nico, Phantom a slight bit ahead of them when he stopped and Lianna listened using her empathic senses. She could sense another nearby and they were injured.
“Which way do you think she is?” Nico asked.
Lianna pointed as Phantom took off down an intersecting corridor. “Down that way.” she exclaimed as she followed him somewhat slower.
After the woman had been transported out of the area Lianna looked up.
“I know, you’re probably going to ask why I gave up my combadge, but it takes less resources from Engineering if they don’t have to scan for a specific life sign.” Nico explained.
“I understand and getting her to sickbay quickly is our first priority, ... right?” she asked.
“Do you ‘sense’ anyone else around?” he asked.
“No Nico, I think we found them all.” Lianna said as Phantom reappeared and jumped around them excitedly, looking for praise in his help in finding the trapped crewmembers. Lianna leaned down and patted his head laughing as he pranced around them.
Nico had just checked to see that everyone was accounted for when Liannas combadge blipped.
=/\=Engineering to Lianna=/\=
She tapped the combadge =/\= Go ahead. =/\= she looked curious at Nico as the engineer continued.
=/\=Your quarters have been fixed, and are clear of structural anomalies=/\=
=/\= Thank you for letting me know =/\= she said before closing the link.
“I can walk you to your quarters,” he offered.
“Thank you Nico.” she walked with him towards her quarters, Phantom taking advantage of the time he had not having to be connected to Lianna and raced ahead of them. Once they had arrived at her quarters Nico turned around and started for the turbolift. Lianna quickly motioned and Phantom took off after him.
She called to Nico. “Take Phantom back to Jack, I’ll come find him after I put my quarters back together.”
Lianna didn’t wait for an answer but turned and entered her quarters. She had work to do, to clean up what the engineers hadn’t done. The shelves now fixed so that they would not topple over again. She noted that the engineers took into account her blindness and made sure to fix anything which might cause harm if the ship shook again.

“Take Phantom back to Jack, I’ll come find him after I put my quarters back together.”
Nico smiled at Lianna, but she turned around before he could answer. Nico noticed that Phantom was following him on his own, so he didn’t feel that he had to do anything with the dog. When the two were in the turbo lift, and Nico was sure that no one was going to look at him strangely, he bent over and scratched the dog’s ears. “Does Lianna have a boyfriend?” Nico asked softly, half-wishing the dog would answer. Nico was quite fascinated with her, but wished he knew, so he didn’t do anything he would regret.
After the turbo lift ride, Nico hurried to sickbay, to get back to work. He watched Phantom rush over to Jack, and the little boy grab one of the dog’s paws. “I want you to talk again,” Nico heard Jack say. Nico smiled at the child and the dog, and walked on, to the patient he had to heal. When he was done with that, and had glanced lightly around to see if Lianna had returned. She hadn’t yet, but Lt. Avel wanted to talk to him, so Nico walked over.
“Ensign Todaro, do you have the time to fill out a report now?”
“Yeah, sure,” Nico replied. “What on?”
“Just say how you found the patient, where, and how long you think she was there,” Lt. Avel said.
“Have there been complications?” Nico said, which was the main reason a report of this nature would be filed.
“The patient is fine, but it seems she went quite a while without treatment.”
“Well, she was a little remote, we barely found her as it was,” Nico said.
“Hmm,” Avel replied, and handed a PADD to Nico to fill it out.
Nico was busy at work, but when the sickbay doors opened he glanced up, hoping it was Lianna. Instead it was another medic who had finished the patrol. Nico looked back and worked on the report he was filing.

Lianna spent the next hour and a half cleaning up the rest of her quarters. Spending special time making sure that there was nothing which would hinder her movement when she wasn’t wearing the vest.
She was confident that Phantom would stay out of the way and obey Nico, he knew his job and knew that if he was sent with Nico, that Nico was boss. Phantom kept Jack company during his stay in sickbay, keeping him occupied until his parents could be alerted of his whereabouts.
Lianna finished cleaning her quarters and changing her clothes for clean ones, the ones she’d been wearing dirty due to the fall. She brushed her hair back off her face and with a quick glance headed back towards sickbay, to pick up Phantom and to make sure the woman she had helped find was ok.
-- sickbay --
Lianna entered sickbay and looked around. She wanted to remain out of the way and not anger the Lt, whom she had not started out on the right foot with.

The father of Jack, the little boy that had been playing with Phantom, had gotten off duty and come by to pick him up. Nico thought about bringing Phantom back to Lianna, as she might want him back, but Nico’s shift was only ten minutes from being over.
His shift finished, Nico had been about to leave sickbay, when Lianna entered. Nico went over to her, following Phantom, who had rushed to his owner. Nico saw that Lianna had changed, and that she looked even more amazing than she had before.
“Hi,” he said, a little awkwardly, but Nico didn’t know what else to say.
<Tag Lianna>
“Jack left about ten minutes ago, his father came by to pick him up. I was just going to take him down to you, since my shift just ended,” Nico explained.
<Tag Lianna>
“Do you want to go to twelve forward to get something to eat?” Nico asked suddenly. “If you’re hungry and want to, that is.”

“Hi,” Nico said as Lianna knelt down and patted Phantom on the head when he came over to her.
“Hi Nico.” She looked around sickbay, which had calmed down a lot since she had been there last.
“Jack left about ten minutes ago, his father came by to pick him up. I was just going to bring Phantom down to you, since my shift just ended,” Nico explained.
“I just finished cleaning my room and making sure thing would not be in the way. Something I have to be very careful about.” she said as she stood up and brushed the wrinkles out of her outfit.
“Do you want to go to twelve forward to get something to eat? If you’re hungry and want to, that is.” Nico asked suddenly.
“That sounds like a great idea Nico. I hope they will let Phantom in though, do you think they will?” She asked as they left sickbay and headed for deck 12. Phantom racing around the two but sticking closer since this was a new area for him to explore.

“I’m pretty sure they won’t object,” Nico replied. They arrived at the hall before too long, and Nico looked around for an empty table, of which there were quite a few. Most people didn’t seem to feel like socializing, even though their shift had ended. Nico noticed that this seemed to happen whenever there was a stressful situation. Some people did work harder, but other just stayed out of site, because they felt guilty that they couldn’t be working harder, that they couldn’t help the ship much.
Nico led Lianna to the more formal section of the restaurant, where there were servers, rather than requiring people to get their food themselves. He led her not because he though she couldn’t find the way on her own, but because he remembered being bewildered the first time he entered the place, and that the different sections were rather confusing.
They sat down at the table, and Phantom sat under the table. The waiter came up to them and handed them each menus. He also glanced briefly at Phantom, but didn’t say anything.
Nico waited until the waiter had left before acting, awkwardly; “Do you want me to read the menu to you?” Nico knew that Lianna could ‘see’ things in other ways, but he didn’t think that extended to the written word. He might be wrong, but he thought that it would be better if he volunteered and was wrong than Lianna had to ask.

"Aren't you going to say something Commander," Paikea said his face hot with anger. He had been attacked for doing his job and he wouldn't allow it from no one.
"Commander....," an ensign in engineering said before Paikea stopped him with just a glare. Everyone's eyes in engineering were now looking at the two bickering officers.
"Commander Gray, please follow me, we will have this conversation in your office," Paikea said hoping to lose all the eyes on them.

“Engineering is understaffed, we got some new staff when we where at Conqueror, but when a tenth of the on-duty staff end up in sickbay because they were risking their lives. But do you know what’s even worse? The fact that science has to keep running experiments throughout the entire battle. Experiments that may not jeopardize anyone’s life, but they certainly don’t seem to be helping!” Aeryn said. Objectively, she could have realized that the experiments represented months of work, and couldn’t be easily stopped and started again. But she wasn’t feeling very objective just now.
"Commander Gray, please follow me, we will have this conversation in your office,"
“Certainly,” Aeryn said, then led Commander Apirana to her office. “Excuse me for the mess,” she said. “But I’ve been a little busy.”

Aeryn sighed. “So what do you want to talk about? The fact that we have an Ambassador on board the ship that risked everyone’s lives, and we don’t even know why?” Aeryn noticed that Paikea seemed quite angry, and that he was going to talk. She cut him off.
“I know, you’re probably going to tell me that I have a problem following orders. I don’t. I just have a problem with following bad orders.”

“Certainly,” Aeryn said, then led Commander Apirana to her office. “Excuse me for the mess,” she said. “But I’ve been a little busy.”
Paikea of course heard the sarcastic tone in her voice and he didn't like it one bit. He was doing his job while trying to help out the other departments keep the ship together. If he stopped his test thousands of hours of work would be gone, and her information was not completely accurate. The science department had only been doing one experiment during the battle and that experiment was of supreme importance.
The Scavenger and her science department had been asked to come up with a component element that would speed up the incubation period of fifteen Cardassian bird species. It might seem trivial, but these animals were presumed extinct after the destruction of the Cardassia during the Dominion War, but luckily enough the Cardassian had found a sample of their DNA. That was a year ago, and now the Scavenger was leading the effort to complete the research.
"Bite your toungue Commander, or I will have to put you in the brig for disrespecting a superior officer," Paikea said noticing the irony in his statement." The orders were given by Commodore T'Mar and we are all expected to do as ordered."
"And don't you even talk to me about the irony of risking our lives for someone we don't know, but that is our mission and if you don't like it, you can put yourself in your quarters for all I care," Paikea said angrier than ever.

Lianna looked around the eating establishment and smiled at his choice of seats. This was indeed a new area of the ship for her and the slowness with which she traveled and the fact that Phantom stayed close showed this. She managed to move through the room to their table with no problems and sat across from Nico, Phantom laying between their feet beneath the table.
She took the menu from the waiter but didn't look at it and smiled as Nico spoke.
“Do you want me to read the menu to you?”
He seemed to understand that there were still things she could not do. Even with the aid of the sensory vest.
"Please Nico, I would appreciate that. But feel free to choose for me since you know the place better than I." she reached beneath the table and ran her fingers over Phantoms ears. "Please order whatever their equivalent to a steak is, for Phantom. He hasn't eaten yet either." She laughed lightly feeling the dogs rough tongue pass over her fingers. "And .. perhaps a bowl of water for him as well?" She looked questioningly at Nico hoping he didn't mind doing this for her. She settled back in the seat and glanced around the room.
