As Luke entered the Briefing Room the Scavenger was dropping out of warp and confirming mission orders and data with DS9, it was the perfect time to talk to his Senior Staff, see how things were. Get their advice on things, he saw their meetings as a part of Starship life, one which was completely unavoidable. He was pleased to see that the Scavenger's returning CEO was the first one in the room and seemed to be busying himself looking round at what must seem like a walk in the past.
"Anything changed much?" Luke asked, tucking a loose piece of his long hair behind one hair and tightening the pony-tail that held the chaotic mess in place.
"Captain." The Commander said, standing to his feet. "I'm sorry, I didn't see you there."
Luke waved his hand dismissively. "Sit down Mr. Dunsmore, I can't be doing with all of this formality." Luke took his place at the head of the table and turned his gaze to the Engineer. "So, good to be back?"
<TAG Dunsmore>
"I can imagine, I must say she would not be my first choice of vessel, she's hard to maneoveur, not originally designed for battle and seems to be temperamental... However, those quirks seem to be making me like her even more. What made you request a transfer back to the Scavenger? Most people prefer to move on and stay 'on' as it were."
<TAG Dunsmore>
Luke nodded, he knew exactly where the Commander was coming from, there were some ships that just would never leave your mind...
"Captain, we have an incomming hail from the leader of the Klingon attack squadron. They are apparantly detecting a Breen Tactical fleet approximately 10 minutes from our location."
"Why have we not detected such a fleet?" Lex responded.
"It is possible that we received more substantial damage in the last attack than we first thought. She's getting on a bit Lex, we're never sure how she's going to behave." Jaris remarked, moving from the seat reserved for the FO and once more taking up her old position at Science, she couldn't keep away.
Lex patted the arm of his chair affectionately. "Don't listen to her gal, she's just jealous that you're going to out live us all."
"I seriously doubt that Captain." Jaris replied, this time her voice was grave, Lex knew that she was only going to come out with bad news.
"What is it Jaris?" He asked, half not wanting to hear the answer.
"I have repaired the sensors which were in fact relaying false information. This sector looked clear, however, the Klingons are correct, a Battle-ready Breen fleet is on an intercept course and will arrive within five minutes."
Lex jumped to his feet before his old friend had finished talking, bringing online sheilds and weapons himself, prepping the Tiger Shark for the fight of her life... Again...
"Sir, the Klingons are jumping to warp. They are leaving the sector."
Lex bit his tongue, he knew they were only doing what was for the best in this situation but he had plenty of remarks to throw at the General next time he saw him, all related to honour...
"All Decks, this is Drago, prepare for a battle situation, all hands, I repeat, prepare for a battle situation."
"You cannot honestly think we can handle that fleet by ourselves?!" Jaris snapped from Science.
"No, of course not, but we cannot run either. We have no impulse or warp drive, the long-range communications are still offline and I refuse to let this end without a fight. Anyone have a problem with that?!"
"Er... Captain?" Commander Dunsmore's voice snapped Luke back to reality.
"Sorry, I must have drifted away for a moment." He stopped and then added hurriedly. "It is a pleasure to have you serving here Mr. Dunsmore.
An awkward silence then filled the room until the remaining Senior Staff arrived. Luke rose to his feet and greeted them all, unable to shake the chill that his memory had caused him to feel.
"Thank you all for making it here on time." He said. "I feel it's time we look over our mission objectives one more time before we set off, see if we've missed anything vital to the success of this mission." He paused. "You all know that we are being sent to the Badlands to research unusual readings that both the Defiant and various other Starfleet vessels have detected recently. Please, would anyone care to offer any suggestions as to what may be the cause of these readings, and Dr., is there a possibility that any prolonged stay in the plasma storms could cause any long lasting damage to any of our crew?"

OOC: Sorry for not posting for so long. I didn't have enough access to the computer to compose a post lately.I really hope the results of the security briefing are in no interest to the simming. IC: Tarapik made a few final adjustments to his console and leaned back in his chair. Security of the ship was organized and the Vulcan had nothing too important to do. He sighed - his shift was almost to an end. Perhaps some time in the holodeck would allow him to get off some steam, while constructing a new training program. Tarapik patiently waited for his shift to end and left the bridge along with the other officers. In there, he asked the computer about Hunter's position and made his way to Holodeck 2. Interesting how the marine's position fell in with the Vulcan's plans. ******** Tarapik waited for the heavy holodeck doors to open and stepped inside. The bright sunlight made him blink. The Vulcan couldn't help but smile at the view of a French bistro. He had went to Paris, while back in the Academy. His first step was one mall restaurant. But it was not time for memories. Tarapik didn't realize he is staying right on the entrance with a dreamy expression on his face, until a waitress ran past him. The Vulcan shook his head and looked around. He saw lieutenant Hunter sitting on a table, along with commander Apirana. Tarapik stepped toward them and nodded: "Commander," he said. "Lieutenant. I should say a... fascinating place you have here." <tag Apirana\Hunter\Any> Tarapik nodded and turned toward the marine. "Lieutenant, are you and your men interested in a training session alongside with the security department?" he asked. (OOC: Just pick some kind of training and we'll try to get something together) <tag Hunter> "Good, I have the details of some programs I have designed," the Vulcan said as he gave a PADD to the marine. Luke"All Senior Staff, please report to the Briefing Room when we arrive at DS9 in 10 minutes, we have a few things to go through before we make our to the Badlands." Tarapik looked around, surprised. He had completely forgot that he was in a holodeck. He quickly got a hold of himself and said: "Gentlemen, I suggest we should get going..." ********* Tarapik entered the conference room, after a short, refreshing and most of all - undesired jogging around the corridors of the Scavenger. The Vulcan gave himself a second to catch his breath and sat down on his place. <tag Any>

"I love this ship Captain," Luke replied. "She was my home for a good year. Y'know, I broke my back on this ship?" Drago looked astonished. "We collided with a quantum filament bubble. The ship was wrecked and I was trapped in a turbolift. As I tried to climb out, I fell down the shaft. I plunged six decks that day but managed to survive. I don't know how..." An akward silence followed.

Illito kind of noticed the officer enter, and she kind of made a mental note that she should go offer her help soon. And it wasn't like she forgot about him, just that she got a little distracted. She had turned around, a little surprised that no other members of her sickbay staff had talked to him to see what he needed. As she was heading towards the red-uniformed officer, Captain Drago's summons came through. Illito asked Commander Parsons and he informed her that he had intended to have a sickbay physical. βI'm very sorry,β Illito apologized. βI know you're no doubt very busy, but there isn't going to be time to complete the physical now. If you could, maybe come down again at a free moment?β Illito didn't know what the odds were of that. A commanding or first officer coming down for a sickbay voluntarily for a first time was surprising enough. Illito felt that asking for a second might be pushing her luck, but at the moment she didn't really have another choice.
Illito headed down to the briefing, neither terribly early nor at all late. She took a seat without talking to anyone, save a simple reply to Captain Drago's greeting. βDr., is there a possibility that any prolonged stay in the plasma storms could cause any long lasting damage to any of our crew?β
βWe should be fine, but I would strongly recommend we keep our shields raised, to cut down on any unwanted side effects,β Illito replied.

As Illito walked toward the Commander Parsons, Captain Drago's summons came through. The good doctor inquired as to the reason for the Commander's visit, and Adam responded that it was simply for his routine physical.
Illito apologized. βI know you're no doubt very busy, but there isn't going to be time to complete the physical now. If you could, maybe come down again at a free moment?β Parsons smiled, "Not at all, Doctor, perhaps you could just contact me when you need me to report to sickbay. May I escort you to the briefing?"
<TAG Illito>
As the two walked to the turbolift Adam decided to make chit-chat. "So, Doctor, you have served on the Scavenger for some time?"
<TAG Illito>
The two were neither terribly early nor at all late. They each took their seats at the conference table. Parsons and Drago nodded to each other as Parsons pulled out his chair. The Captain then began the briefing and turned to Illito, βDr., is there a possibility that any prolonged stay in the plasma storms could cause any long lasting damage to any of our crew?β

We should be fine, but I would strongly recommend we keep our shields raised, to cut down on any unwanted side effects." Illito replied to Luke's question.
He nodded, acknowledging her response and remained in silence, waiting for anyone else to speak up.
"Captain, there's a risk that prolonged exposure to the plamsa storms could weaken the shields. He spoke with confidence and ease, he knew what he was talking about and Luke liked this.
"I am inclined to agree with our Chief Engineer, Captain. I think it's worth the extra time to ensure the safety of the ship. We should probably also notify the other two ships of our concerns and systems modifications," Parsons chimed in.
"Very good." He looked round at the Senior Staff. "With this in mind, let us get going. Deep Space 9 should have uploaded the updated mission details by now so it's down to us. The Orlandos and Transip have carried on to the Badlands without us. Somehow they must have got it into their heads that this is all one big race..." Luke said, finishing his sentence with a quick smile. "You all know where you are needed. Dismissed."
The crew sprang up from their seats and exited from both sides of the briefing room. Luke motioned for Commander Dunsmore to have a quick word before he returned to Engineering.
"Push those engines would you? Wouldn't want the two smaller vessels beating us now, would we?" He said, this time no smile on his face, he was serious about winning but after all it was all just a game. Luke scanned Dunsmore's reaction, he seemed happy at this idea.
<TAG Dunsmore>
"Get to it then Commander."
As Luke re-entered the Bridge he gave the order to move onto the Badlands and then handed Commander to Parsons, retiring to his Ready Room. Inside he sat down beside his desk and placed his head in his hands, massaging his temple. He was getting one of his headaches which never put him in a good mood. He reached into one of the drawers of his desk and administered the hypospray he kept there to his left and then right temple. The manipulated nano-probes inside would work on his eyesight once more, hopefully reducing the potency of the headache...

"Of course not Sir..." Luke said with a smirk. "Get to it then Commander." Luke returned to engineering with a mission in mind. He walked over to Ensign Hoyes. "I need to increase the efficiency of these engines. Think we can get it up to 98%?" Hoyes gave a confident nod. Suddenly, the warp core shut down. The normal sight of pristine blue plasma pulsating through the warp core faded. "Captain, we've got a problem". (SORRY don't have much time to post today more soooon )

"Not at all, Doctor, perhaps you could just contact me when you need me to report to sickbay. May I escort you to the briefing?"
βUmm, sure,β Illito replied. They were both heading that way anyway, and she was surprised and grateful enough that the FO had agreed to come down later.
As the two walked to the turbolift Commander Parsons spoke up. "So, Doctor, you have served on the Scavenger for some time?"
βYeah, it's been over a year and a half.β Illito smiled softly, she loved the Scavenger, it had been her first, and only, home. βShe's a beautiful ship.β
Later
After the briefing, Illito looked around for Pai, but she didn't see him immediately, so she turned again to Commander Parsons. There were few things that truly stressed Illito out, but one of them was sickbay physicals, because it was such a pain to get anyone down. Illito honestly didn't understand why people wouldn't want a sickbay physical, unless they wanted to get some horrible illness and not have enough medical data about them for Illito to help. Not that that was really very likely, but it was possible, which meant people should plan to avoid it. βAre you going to be busy now? Because if so we can schedule a sickbay physical time for later. I promise I won't make you wait. At all.β

As Luke re-entered the Bridge he gave the order to move onto the Badlands and then handed Command to Parsons, retiring to his Ready Room.
Parsons stood facing the view screen and the forward bridge stations for a few moments watching space stream by and the displays on the bridge station viewers. The XO then moved slowly around the bridge, first examining the science station and then tactical. Adam stood behind the science officer and tactical officer as he did so, monitoring their work.
Parsons then moved on to the unmanned engineering station. He noticed a slight fluctuation in the warp engines, but nothing worth more than a passing thought before it returned to normal. The Commander then returned to the center of the bridge and took his seat to the right of the Captian's chair.
A few minutes later the Scavenger suddenly dropped out of warp. Parsons turned his attention to the Conn Officer. "Commander, report," the FO ordered.

"Commander," Luke said as he came out from under the Coil Assembly controls. He was reporting to the XO, who had rightfully, and somehwat angrily, asked for an update. Engineering buzzed with life, but seemed almost empty because of the absence of the warp core's usual glow. "Cryo reactants have leaked into the coil assembly relay system. They're causing an unstable warp field". The commander ended the conversation with the request to be updated later, and Luke set towards the coil assembly control room.
"3,2,1 mark...". There was a whine as the bussard collectors were forced to open invertedly, as this was the only way to purge the cryo reactants that had been isolated to the interior space of the ship's nacelles. An unhealthy creak of metal sounded around the room. "Cryo reactants purged Sir!" Luke was pleased. But, unfortunately, they had come from his shield modifications. He now had to come up with another way to protect the Scavenger.

"Report!" Luke barked as he walked from his Ready Room. The Scavenger had moments before dropped out of warp and he wanted to know why. This would push their mission back for an untold amount of time and now they definately wouldn't get to the Badlands before the Orlandos and Transip. He didn't like to lose things.
"We have dropped out of warp Captain." Max reported from the helm, rather unhelpfully.
"I can see that Commander, is there a reason why? Or have we just stopped to enjoy the view?" Luke snapped.
"Engineering just reported in Sir." Parsons said, approaching his CO. "They have informed us that cryo reactants have leaked into the coil assembly relay system. Causing..."
"An unstable warp field." Luke finished for him. "How long until the relay system is purged?" He asked.
"It shouldn't be too long at all, Mr. Dunsmore seems to be more than adequate at his job." Parsons replied.
Luke sighed and tapped his comm badge. "Drago to Engineering, how long until we can get moving again?"
<TAG Dunsmore>
"So our sheild modulations can no longer be put in place?"
<TAG Dunsmore>
"Understood, work on a solution en route, we need to make up for lost time. Drago out."
"Helm, as soon as you have the final clearing from Engineering proceed to the Badlands, maximum warp."
"Aye Sir." Max replied coldly, obviously annoyed at Luke for snapping.
Well he can just deal with it. Luke thought. I'm the Commanding Officer of this vessel and he will be treated like everyone else.
"Commander Parsons may I see you in my Ready Room please?" Luke asked his FO. "Commander Apirana, you have the Bridge."
<TAG Parsons and Apirana>
The two Senior Commanding Officers walked into the Ready Room one after the other and both took their seats, Parsons for the first time not requiring to be asked. Luke took this as a positive sign that the First Officer was beginning to see the Scavenger as his home and his place within her crew and family.
"How are you finding things Commander?" Luke asked. "This must seem like a pretty dull mission for your first stint in the Executive position. Everything going alright?" Luke was aware that they had one of these conversations no more than a few days before but he felt like he should keep up to date with the feelings of his crew, this was, after all, all fairly new to him. Commanding a Starship in a non-wartime situation that is...

Captain Drago sighed and tapped his comm badge. "Drago to Engineering, how long until we can get moving again?"
"Twenty minutes or so Sir, I have to realign the phase inducers before we can get underway".
"So our sheild modulations can no longer be put in place?"
"I'm afriad not Captain," Luke replied reluctantly. "They'll cause permanent damage to the warp coils even if we stem the leak".
Captain Drago left the technical side to Luke. "Report in to helm when your done Commander".
"Aye Sir".

The two Senior Commanding Officers walked into the Ready Room one after the other and both took their seats, Parsons for the first time not requiring to be asked. The XO now comfortable that this was the Captain's wish in most situations.
"How are you finding things Commander?" Luke asked. "This must seem like a pretty dull mission for your first stint in the Executive position. Everything going alright?"
"Everything is going quite well, Captain. I am starting to get a feel for the ship and crew, and I am endeavoring to adjust to your command style as quickly as possible," Adam replied honestly.
"As for the mission, I have found that my tenure in Starfleet has consisted of long periods of boredom, punctuated by moments of extreme excitement and sheer terror, at least in the tactical and security context. I have learned not to wish for excitement, Sir. I've learned to be very careful what I wish for."
Parsons paused as he thought back briefly to lost comrades and terrific battles.
"I am sure this mission will be interesting, and in the meantime I will be monitoring Luke's problems in Engineering."

Luke ignored the comment about his command style, he was sure it wasn't a negative slant and he was quite used to people having to adapt. He liked it better that way. "Very good Commander. Well I can say that your perfomance to date has been excellent, exactly what I would've expected from an Officer with your record. You are dismissed, keep me informed of the situation in Engineering." 1.4 Hours Later
Luke briskly walked onto the Bridge, a huge plama storm lighting up the room via the viewscreen. "Report." Luke said, taking his seat. "We have arrived at the Badlands Captain." Max replied from the helm. "Right where the Transip and the Orlandos said they'd be." "Have we heard from them yet?" "No Sir." Parsons replied. "Odd..." Luke's mind began to wander, a game between Captains was one thing but to disobey direct orders and proceed without them was something totally different. "Anything on sensors Commancder?" Luke asked Paikea. <TAG Apirana> Luke sighed. "Open a channel Lieutenant." Luke ordered the SMO, just because they couldn't see either of the vessels didn't mean they weren't there. The storms could be messing around with their sensors. "Channel open Sir." Hunter replied. "Orlandos and Transip, this is Captain Drago, please respond." Luke said clearly. The seconds ticked by and the silence that filled the Bridge was suffocating. Luke spoke again, still no response. "Commander Bower, take us closer to the Badlands, do not enter however." "Drago to Engineering, what's the status report on those sheild modulations, we're going to need them around about now." <TAG Dunsmore> "Very well Commander, let us know when you're ready." "Captain!" Paikea called from his station. "What is it Commander?" Luke asked, approaching the Science console. "There is an object out there Sir, I believe it is an emergency transmission buoy." Paikea tapped a few commands and then looked at Luke gravely, it requires a Command level Officer or higher's clearance." "Did it come from either the Transip or Orlandos?" Luke asked. Paikea just nodded in response. Luke punched in his authorisation code and transmitted it to the buoy. Immediately the signal was transferred to the Scavengers viewscreen. The Transip's Captain filled the image. =^= Captain Drago, we were just under heavy fire from an unknown assailant, the plasma storms are preventing all communications so we have persued the enemy, best possible speed. Please inform Command of our decision and await further orders. Transip out =^= "Mr. Apirana is there any wreckage in the local area?" <TAG Paikea> "So they definately followed them into the Badlands." "Mr. Parsons, thoughts?" <TAG Parsons> Luke sighed, he knew the right thing to do would be to move to a distance away from the Badlands that allowed clear communications, but something wasn't right here. Two Starships don't just go on a wild goose chase and dissapear. "Mr. Bower, take us into the Badlands, best possible speed." "Aye Sir." Max replied, not a question coming from his lips. Luke knew that it was likely that most of the Senior Staff would have a problem with this decision... He tapped his comm badge, still thinking on this. "All Senior Staff report to the Briefing Room immediately." <TAG All>

"Drago to Engineering, what's the status report on those sheild modulations, we're going to need them around about now." "I've managed to boost the shields by increasing plasma flow, using the waste to add extra power to the generators. However, Tactical will have to manually modulate the shields every 30 seconds or so. Avoid any huge plasma drifts". "Very well Commander, let us know when you're ready."

He had never personally been in the badlands, but like everyone else he had seen them in holotext and photos. There proximity to Deep Space 9 and base of the Maquis had made the badlands a place everyone knew of. The plasma storms were never ending, but Paikea found them intoxicating. They were ever changing never allowing themselves to die out.
Even though he was enjoying the scenery he never forgot to perform his duties. As soon as they had entered the system he had been trying contact the Orlandos and Transip. He was surprised when he there was no response. He was going to bring this to the attention of the captain, but he beat him to the punch.
"Anything on sensors Commancder?" Luke asked Paikea
"Nothing out of the ordinary," Paikea repsonded," I will initiate more extensive scans. The plasma storms may be distoring our sensors."
Paikea activated his sensors and scanned the immediate area. Federation starships were able to operate in the volitale badlands, but not for long. The only problem, two Starfleet captains wouldn't break protocol in this fashion. They had been ordered to wait for the Scavenger and even though they were miffed at Captain Drago they had to follow orders.
It didn't take long for the sensors to find something out of the ordinary. The plasma storms were still interfering with the sensors, but his best guest told him that it was a distress bouy that was transmitting on all bands.
"Captain!" Paikea called from his station.
"What is it Commander?" Luke asked, approaching the Science console.
"There is an object out there Sir, I believe it is an emergency transmission buoy." Paikea tapped a few commands and then looked at Luke gravely, it requires a Command level Officer or higher's clearance."
"Mr. Apirana is there any wreckage in the local area?"
"Unknown, sensors are picking up some debris, but that could be from the remanits from the Maquis days," Paikea responded," what I do know, its not from the Orlandos or Transip. I ordered the computer to begin analysing the immedaite area. Hopefully we will be able to pick up on an ion trail."

"All Senior Staff report to the Briefing Room immediately."
"Computer please transfer all forthcoming scans to the briefing room and all tatical information on the Orlandos and Transip."
"Affirmative."

"All Senior Staff report to the Briefing Room immediately."
Illito nodded and made sure Avel could take over the patient she was handling, before grabbing a PADD and heading on the bridge. She wasn't really annoyed at being interrupted because she had felt the ship drop out of warpβthe second timeβ, and she hadn't been in the middle of anything that Avel couldn't handle just as well as herself.
On her way to the the Briefing Room she rethought her decision to not let her brother know she was in the area. If they were going to have any leave time at the end of the mission, she could visit him. She hadn't decided yet, and it did depend on whether Pride was back by that time or not. Just something she planned to think about more.
Illito entered the briefing room and sat down in her chair. She glanced curiously at Pai, wondering if he knew the situation better than herβhe had to, right?

Luke stood expectantly in the Briefing Room, waiting for the Senior Staff to arrive. Eventually all but Max had arrived, which was as Luke had ordered. He was to stay on the Bridge and keep the Scavenger at a steady position, making sure the plasma storms didn't knock out their navigation systems, possibly sending them off course. Luke knew he could trust only one person with this delicate task and so Max stayed on the Bridge, too his annoyance of course. However, Luke was sure that he was actually flattered deep down, although he would never admit to that.
"As you are aware." Luke started once everyone had taken their seats. "We have recently arrived to where we supposed to rendez vouz with the Orlandos and Transip, however, they are no-where to be seen. We received a transmission from one of the Commanding Officers stating that they had persued an unknown assailant into the Badlands and are requesting that we alert Command. Mr. Apirana currently has the Computer working on an analysis of debris in the area to see if it belongs to either of the two now missing vessels." He paused, looked round at his crew and frowned. This was only their third official mission together, what he was going to ask them to do next could make or break them. "I am planning to take the Scavenger into the Badlands, sending a courier with a message to Deep Space Nine, where they can relay the situation back to Command. What I want to know is where you all stand with this. I honestly have no idea what we will face, seeing as we are dealing with two missing Starships. I need to know how you all feel. And I expect honesty."

Paikea couldn't explain the surge of good feeling that he was experiencing. It was only a few hours ago that he was miserable and annoyed. Now he was ready to take on the world. As looked at his friends he realized how foolish and stupid he had been especially to Illito who had tried to help him. He was pleased when Illito sat next to him which meant that she might have forgiven him for his attitude towards her.
"Illito, I'd like to apologize for what I said," Paikea said," I had no right to ever say that to you...."
Paikea would have continued, but the captain made a motion that signaled that he was ready to begin this impromptu meeting. The captain quickly informed everyone of what had just happened and what he was planning to do.
"We have to go after them," Paikea said immediately," Federation ships weren't meant to last long in the badlands. The fact that they were chasing after someone doesn't bode well for them either."

"Sir," Luke started. "I'm fine with this decision. I think that we should be ashamed of ourselves if we turned our backs on those missing ships. But I'm not sure how long the Scavenger would last. The shields are already weakening, and thats just from being on the outskirts. If teh shields failed this vessel wouldn't survive re-entry into normal space. We'd be destroyed before we got out of here. She's getting on, and as much as I love her, I have to say that we're going to be facing a risk. We need to accomplish this as quickly as possible".
