Commander Robert Nelson stood alone in the Captain's ready room. Everything about the room said Adams but now it was supposed to say Nelson. Robert felt like a grave robber, seeking out the riches of the dead king and making them his own. The reality of the situation was that Adams was now dead and Command of the Challenger was now Roberts.
Robert knew that most of the crew was down in the mess hall watching the old Earth game of Football, but he didn't feel much like socializing. Roberts had a deep admiration for Adams, his command style and the unquestionable leadership skills that he constantly showed. He knew he was in for a long hard uphill battle to try and fill his shoes.
"Captain Nelson there is a Priority One message from Admiral Gardner for you." Robert heard from the speaker box by the ready room's door.
Robert walked quickly to the speaker and pushed the transmit button the speaker box, "Put it through in here."
"Aye sir." Came the reply.
Robert made for the desk and quickly powered up the monitor and soon Robert was face to face with Admiral Gardner, "Admiral, what can I do for you?"
"We have a high priority mission and your ship is the closest one to the point of contact..." As Gardner continued to speak the message began to break up from the long distance it had traveled.
"Sir, you're breaking up. Say again." Robert said.
"Need the Challenger to...enter Romulan spa...recon...ission." The monitor went black leaving Robert with half a message to try and decipher. Wasting no time Robert rushed out of the ready room onto the bridge.
“Were you able to record that lat transmission?” Robert asked the Communications officer on duty.
“No sir. That’s a Priority One message, your eyes only.” The officer replied.
With out saying another word Robert walked off the bridge into a nearby elevator and took it down to E deck. The entire way down he thought about the message that Admiral Gardner was able to get through the static, it was up to him to interpret what the Admirals intentions were.
When he finally arrived on E Deck, Robert had a good feeling he figured out the mission that was just given to the Challenger. As he walked into the Mess Hall he turned off the large viewing monitor and hence shut down the Super Bowl party.
“Listen up!” Robert announced.
The crowded room erupted in a single AWWW of disbelief.
“Everybody to their battle stations, we are heading into Romulan Space.”

The game was exciting as he remembered but he wasn't paying any attention at all. He was thinking about what Daniels had just told them about Captain Adams. That meant that Robert Nelson was now commanding officer and he was acting first officer. He didn't like that title but for the moment he had to live with it. The crew didn't react well to the supposed death of there captain, but they were trying to deal with it.
Many had tried to have a good time, but it was evident that the thoughts of the captain were still on there mind. Commander Nelson had already ordered the Challenger back to Earth for orders, but that would take weeks. Jack knew that wasn't going to happen. The lost of the captain wouldn't be sufficent enough reason to Starfleet to remove a war tested crew and ship from the front lines.
Like it had been planned, Nelson walked into the mess hall and ruined everything. Jack was about to protest but he knew that this would be important.
“Everybody to their battle stations, we are heading into Romulan Space.”
It must have been the booze, but know one immediately responded until Jack shouted at them to get their butts moving. Jack looked at the one person he trusted with his life. They didn't have to say anything to eachother. They knew this mission would be the hardest of them all.
"Andy, please tell me your're not drunk?" Jack asked as he ushered everyone out.

Kirk was sitting in what he thought was the most comfortable chair in the entire mess hall when Commander Nelson decided to burst into the room and cancel the Super Bowl party.
“Listen up!” Robert announced, “Everybody to their battle stations, we are heading into Romulan Space.”
Kirk watched as the room slowly began to empty, sitting next to him was his good friend Jack. He could see the look of disappointment on Jack's face but there was nothing they could do.
"Andy, please tell me you're not drunk?" Jack asked.
"I would've been if Nelson hadn't busted in." Kirk said in a truly disappointed tone.
"There's always next year." Jack said as he patted the Engineer on the back.
"Lets move people." Nelson barked to get the crew to hop to.
"That was a good game." Kirk said out loud as he passed Nelson.
"You know Kirk, if you spent as much time on the engines as you do watching old sports we might be able to get this ship up to its full potential." Nelson fired back.
Kirk held his tongue as he felt the mess hall, there was no love loss between the two officers. Kirk knew that Nelson was the son of highly regarded diplomat, and even in these modern times people in high places were still able to get their kids promoted quicker than the common man.
Kirk made his way down to the engine room to spread the word, battle stations meant that everybody was now on 18 hour days, giving them only six hours off before they had to be back on again. It was the price they paid for space exploration.
"Attention, from this time onward we on General Quarters. We all have practiced this too many times so you know the drill. Lets just make this go as smoothly as possible." Kirk said as he stood on the elevated warp engine's platform.

After waiting for the mess hall to clear out Robert eyed Jack as he slowly walked to the other side of the room to the beverage dispenser. He only took his gaze from Jack when her ordered up a cup of hot black coffee. Jack could tell that Robert had something on his mind but seemed to be searching for the right words.
"Jack," Robert started, "I think I can safely say that we have both never seemed to like each other."
Jack didn't answer he just stood near the door and wonderedas to where Robert was going with this.
"I know the crew respects you. You have led them on several dangerious away missions while I stayed aboard the ship," Robert said before taking a second to sip on his coffee, "I just need to make sure that now that I'm in command you are not going to try and undermind my authority as you have done in the past."

"Well RoberT," Jack said making sure to stress his name," I wouldn't need to undermine your orders if you didn't risk all of our lives in the process."
The one person, the one and only person that Jack didn't like was the almighty Commander Robert Nelson. The man who had yet to prove his worth to the ship. He was a pompous idiot who demanded respected.
"I see that your mad and most likely will report me and I'm here to tell you go ahead," Jack said," you can't risk loosing me during this mission. I'm pretty sure Gardner told you about me becoming acting first officer in yesterday's brief?"
"I'll take the silence as a yes," Jack responded," well I tried to get out of it as well. And since we have to work together I will be civil with you."
Jack turned away from the man who would be leading them into a war zone. Which must have infuriated him even more.
"Let me tell you this," Jack said turning to face him once more," if I have to I will take command from you and you know what ti would be all legit. Since you are unfit to command."

Robert sat with a smug look on his face, both he and Jack knew that Robert was connected. Getting somebody like him removed from a principle command in the middle of a war would be next to impossible.
It didn't take long for Jack to finally leave the mess hall, leaving Robert by himself to enjoy the rest of his coffee. Kid doesn't know what he is getting himself into, Robert thought with a sip of his coffee.
Robert finally made his way back to the bridge and was surprised when he didn't hear the phrase Captain on the bridge called out.
"Commander Logan, do I have to remind you that the Captain has stepped onto the bridge." Robert said not needing the answer, "Now, our mission is going to be a dangerous one, but an important one. Word has come down to me from Admiral Gardner that we have been selected to acquire a Romulan ship and take it deep into Romulan space. We are then going to try and get an exact number of war ships the Romulans have."
The bridge feel silent after hearing the news of their new mission.
"Major Rickman, I need you to prepare your soldiers to board a Romulan ship, Commander Logan I want you to be the officer in charge of this away mission. Take along that drunk, Kirk. Just in case those vermin decide to try and destroy their own engines. Let me know when you have found our target ship, I'll be in my office."

"As you wish," Jack said wishing he could punch the man," Captain on the bridge." Everyone got up and stood at attention. Jack could see everyone's eyes rolling and smirking away. His advance hearing allowed him to hear the words ~idiot~, ~[word deleted]~, and some other colorful words that he would have never expected.
"Major Rickman, I need you to prepare your soldiers to board a Romulan ship, Commander Logan I want you to be the officer in charge of this away mission. Take along that drunk, Kirk. "Sir, why don't you tell him yourself as he on the bridge," Jack said looking at Andy," I have already ordered Major Rickman to prepare his team and sir if I'm not mistaken it is customary for the Captain to lead Priority 1 missions. I took the liberty of looking over the mission details."
~Let's see if your half the officer you think you are~ Jack thought as he waited for there dear captain's response.

Saryn had been observing the interaction between the two commanders from his station for some time now. He could sense the animosity between the two men, but he decided to see where the conversation would be going before he'd intervene. He didn't know Commander Nelson, nor did he recognise the name, even though he felt he should.
After several minutes, the sphere on the bridge didn't seem to improve and Saryn noticed that Jack was restraining himself. This was where he decided to step in, also because Nelson hadn't even so much as acknowledged his presence. Of course, Saryn was fairly adept at remaining invisible, and he was also very adept at reading body language due to having grown up with a deaf sister and having worked with hearing impaired children.
"Gentlemen," he spoke up, his voice icy calm as he glanced from one officer to the other. "Commander Logan is correct. On priority missions it is the captain's duty to lead the landing party." He then made a point of staring at the new acting captain. "Additionally, perhaps you may wish to look around the bridge first before delegating the task of having an officer paged while he is already present on the bridge?"
Behind Logan, Saryn could see Kirk stiffle a smile, something that went unnoticed to Nelson. "Additionally, security reports that weapons are fully functional, though our hull plating took such a beating last mission that it is still undergoing repairs. It is functional, but not optimally."

"You all have your orders, was that some way made unclear to you?" Robert barked back. This was the sort of thing he feared would happen, and he saw only one way to rectify the situation, but all he would need is time.
Robert stood watching Kirk in the back of the bridge. He had no idea why the Chief Engineer was on the bridge instead of in Engineer but he would soon fix that, "Lieutenant, given Saryn's last status report on our hull I would image your presence is needed else where."
Robert watched as Kirk stood firm for the moment and then after that brief hesitation the engineer walked off the bridge, "Good, one down, two to go." Robert said to himself.
"Now, Mr. Logan you are the communications officer I need to your search out and find any Romulan communications. We need to find a ship to attack, and we need to do it quickly. I want all our energy for this next duty shift to be to find a single Romulan ship. I wasn't given this assignment just so I could fail. Get to it."

"Sir, current Starfleet protocol forbids that," Jack said reminding the superior officer," we do not have clearance to search and destroy."
Jack's last remark seemed to be the final straw. Nelson stood firm and looked at the entire bridge crew.
"Commander Logan, did you receive the orders from Admiral Gardner?" Nelson asked.
"No, I did not," Jack responded.
"Well then shut the hell up and do as I order!" Nelson barked as he took the center seat and waited for everyone to begin work. Jack on the other hand stood there silent and mad. He had spoken to Admiral Gardner in the past and Captain Adams had entrusted him with some insight as well. These orders were completely against the Alliance's beliefs. He wouldn't say anything now, but he was positive that Nelson was lying about his orders or at the best twisting them to fill his plans.
"Understood sir," Jack said as he reached his station and began looking for the most isolated ship in the entire sector.

Saryn shot a brief glance at Logan, before the communication's chief took his seat at his own console. He could see the annoyance on the commander's face, and the seething anger in his eyes, but Saryn shook his head ever so slightly at the younger man. This wasn't the time for him to enter a debate with their new commanding officer, not for the communications chief.
Instead, Saryn clasped his hands behind his back and remained standing where he stood at an 'at ease' position, glancing down at Nelson. His face had taken on a somewhat cold to neutral expression as he remained waiting. Nelson turned and looked up again. "Yes?"
"I did not receive specific orders, like you gave them to Commanders Kirk and Logan," Saryn said neutrally, though he carefully weighed his words, "you ordered Kirk to repair this vessel and Logan to find this Romulan vessel. Yet you did not issue me any specific orders..." It was a long shot, but Saryn was playing dumb right now, and he would learn how this new captain would respond.
As security chief it was his duty to protect the ship and its crew, but if this captain was irrational and possibly would endanger the crew with his orders, Saryn would need to step in. And playing like this, he would possibly learn how the new CO would respond. "You do know that I was temporarily insane last mission?" he offered, "it was my shot that killed Adams. I would defend you of course, as is my duty, but I cannot guarantee doing a good job." His sharp hearing caught Logan's soft chuckle at his words. "So I ask again, why was I not issued specific orders?"

"You're the armory officer," Robert said trying to prove a point, "Work closely with the Major Rickman to make sure that all the MACO soldiers are ready to board a Romulan vessel. I want all officers aboard the ship to be armed with phase pistols just in case something goes wrong. I need all this done by the time we encounter a Romulan ship, understand?"

It was already happening and Kirk could feel it. The new Captain, Robert Nelson was rubbing everybody the wrong way. He knew there was no way his gung ho, obey my orders to a T attitude was going to be fly with the ship for very much longer.
What other choice do we have? Kirk asked himself, knowing that they were still in the middle of the war and gaining ground on known Romulan space. It was only a matter of time before things got hot around the Challenger.
"Sir, I received your orders and I have my entire team working on the hull plating."
"Good, thank you Chief." Kirk replied to the high ranking enlisted man.
It was a hard thing to do but Kirk had started to put his trust in the skills of the men and women below him. In the past he himself would've been up and around the hull patching holes, fixing anything and everything that wasn't up to his high standards, now he felt he could trust his crew.
The hours went by quickly as Kirk made his rounds of the ship, trying to make sure that everybody was on top of their sections. He knew that something was bothering him, but he really had no idea what it was. The ship had gone to General Quarters before, they had been in minor battles in the past, but this time was different. They were now on the hunt.

~He is an illogical man. He exhibits traits that you yourself showed us during our time in the pass. Even I with human mental capabilities can tell what a fraud this man is. Please do what you have always done and serve with distinction. I'm sorry that I have been rude to you in these past few days, but I'm sure you understand. Captain Adams was very close to me~ Jack said in Vulcan so that only Saryn would understand. Jack didn't like how Nelson responded to his question and he wanted to let him know that he would back him up, even though Saryn could take care of himself.
"Captain, I have picked up fifty three different ships within twenty light years," Jack said reporting to his superior officer," 90% of them are deep into Romulan space. That leaves these two ships. One of them appears to be damaged, but I cannot be sure."
Jack couldn't help but cringe to the words he was about to say, but it was out of his hands.
"Sir the decision is yours."

Saryn appreciated Logan's support but he felt the linguist shouldn't speak in a different language on the bridge. "Thank you Commander Logan," he replied in english, "I will be sure to remember that." He glanced back at Nelson, who was glaring at him with an expectant expression on his face. "Major Rickman is fully capable of managing his marines sir," he answered, "their weapons are up to full functionality as I have recently checked them myself. The MACO's are also better trained than I am for boarding a vessel. As you so aptly pointed out, I am the armoury officer..."
He turned his back on the captain, without having been properly dismissed, and walked back to his station. "I am now calling up the specifics of the Romulan vessel you mentioned, and will calibrate our weapons such that we shall not damage the vessel too much when we try to take him." He raised his eyebrow at Logan. "Any Romulan chatter on the subspace yet?" he querried, while keeping his eyes on his console.
After a while, he stepped away from his console. "Permission to check on Major Rickman and his MACO's?" Saryn didn't like the MACO chief, especially not since their adventure in the 20th century. But he was forced to work with him nonetheless, and he would work with him insofar that would be possible, also given Rickman's own attitude towards him. If needed, the two could work together...but undoubtedly they would prefer not to.

Robert listened to Jack and weighted his decision. He knew there was no need to get into a possible fatal confrontation with a Romulan ship; they just needed a single ship to use as a decoy.
"Set course for the damaged ship, Mr. Logan relay those coordinates to the helm." Robert ordered, "Warp 4."
"Aye sir." Replied Ensign Beu-Pas.
Robert sat on the bridge thinking about the coming battle, the orders he had received from Admiral Gardner and the ever bothersome attitude of his senior staff. He was still deep in thought when he heard Saryn speak from back side of the bridge.
"Permission to check on Major Rickman and his MACO's?" Saryn asked in his normal cold tone of voice.
"Granted," Robert replied with out looking back to face Saryn. Then he had a thought and turned in his chair to face Saryn, "Saryn, I read in your file that you have experience as a Vulcan healer."
"That is correct." Saryn replied.
"Good, I want you to accompany the assault team in case." Robert said.
"I believe that Doctor T'Kara would be a better choice." Saryn suggested.
"I can't risk sending my Doctor on an away mission when she might be needed here to treat wounded. You shall go." Roberts finished, turning in his chair as to show Saryn the conversation was over.

Rickman watched the new cock of the roost strut around. Unsurprisingly, Logan looked like he wanted to pound the man into the ground and if he did, well Rickman wasn't too sure he'd not trip or something on the way to intervene... Kirk looked much the same, but his nature being what it was, he was far more restrained in attitude. Possibly due to the fact Kirk was the head of the only people who could turn the life support off and on. That would give Rickman a certain sense of power more than any centre chair ever could.
As it was, the man was clearly an arse. He had interrupted the super bowl which Rickman wasn't into but knew others were. He had basically come from doing nothing to taking over the ship and thought it his right. And finally, he seemed to think he was the natural boss of everyone regardless of who they were.
Rickman had left it to Atkins and Sergeant Smith to finish making sure the men were ready for action as soon as the Romulan vessel had been found. Because of Logan's forethought, they had plenty of time to make last minute checks. After all, Rickman often didn't have a clue what was going on somewhere until someone told him. He either had to spend his time on the bridge and leave the men to Atkins or spend the time in the MACO 'barracks' and miss the important information. Given the current situation, he was favouring the latter recently. Indeed, at the first chance he left the bridge again once the plan was entirely established.
From Rickman's MACO point of view it looked like this: Starfleet find ship and stop ship Then Marines board Kill anyone who resists Starfleet make ship work again
Only two problems seemed apparent from this point of view. One, the Vulcan armoury officer was likely to be present. If so then knowing the Vulcan race's politically correct attitude to war, he would likely want the Marines to attempt to stun the Romulans. Given the likely shape of the ship, it might be best to use the energy weapons instead of the preferred projectile ones but even so the 'stun' function on the plasma rifles was stupid and pointless as it neither stunned properly nor scared anyone. Two, the Commanding Oriface was likely to want to use the teleporters for boarding. This is like throwing cheese at a grater.
Eventually, Saryn came down 'Are all your men ready?' the Vulcan asked, seemingly attempting to not be there at the same time 'Of course. Will any of the crew be joining us?' asked Rickman, attempting to make the Vulcan disappear with his mind.

Saryn nodded solemnly. "Me," he added, "but not as tactical officer. Captain Nelson wants me to tag along as medical support." The Vulcan raised an eyebrow at the marine. "Look at it this way, I shall not be needing a phase pistol, and I will not be in your way either. Yet, you shall have all the benefits of medical support as I have medical training."
The Vulcan assumed that the marine had actually read his personnel record by way of a sort of screening when Saryn had first come aboard. "However for my own protection perhaps I should carry one." Saryn frowned at the MACO chief. "I shall leave that up to your discretion," he offered, "however Captain Nelson's order stands, howver much I dislike it...or him."
Saryn could swear he saw Rickman smile ever so slightly, but ever so briefly. "He is rather rude and abrupt," he explained, "and does not understand that this crew has entered a period of grief over the loss of Captain Adams. He is an ambitious, but dangerous man and I would suggest we keep an eye on him, as Humans put it."
He glanced the MACO team over. "When are we ready to teleport over to the Romulan vessel? While I would prefer to just stun any Romulan that shall be present, that may not be always possible. Again, use your discretion Major Rickman. If we can make prisoners so much the better, but no harm done if we cannot. Romulans are the enemy of our Alliance, and in war lives do get lost."

Kirk spent the better part of his shift going through work logs and visually inspecting the work his fellow engineers had done. He found himself pleased with the quality of the repairs being done on such short notice. The thought that kept coming back into Kirk’s mind was that all the effort and the repairs he and his teams had done would have to be redone in a short time. Kirk had a feeling that when push came to shove the Romulans were going to be able to hold their own, as they have done in the past.
“Repairs on the hull and complete sir.” Reported one of Kirk’s many engineers as he resented him with a PDA.
“Good work.” Kirk replied as he took the PDA from the engineer. With a couple of quick looks through the data he signed the PDA and handed it back to the eager engineer.
Sixteen hours shifts, Kirk thought as he dragged his tired body across engineering. He figured he needed a break, and who better to join him that his good old friend Jack Logan.
The elevator opened up to reveal the Bridge to the Chief Engineer. Kirk always noted that the sites and sounds were much different than the engine room, almost to the point of being uncomfortable.
“Jack,” Kirk said as he reached Jack’s station, “Care to join me in the mess hall for a quick lunch break?”
Before Jack could reply a loud voice boomed over Kirk’s shoulder.
“Breaks will be taken at there designated times and with the rules established by the General Quarters regulations.” Nelson bellowed, “Besides, Mr. Logan is doing the most important work on this ship right now. He is searching for our Romulan targets.”
“I see,” Kirk replied, “Well then, I guess I will go back down to my engine room then.”
“Where you should stay.” Robert added.
“Yeah.” Kirk said under his breath.
As Kirk walked back to the elevator he noticed a new officer on the ship. New to him, since he didn’t know much of the bridge crew. He thought he had better check with him and see if the repairs are registering on the scopes, just in case there were any sensor bugs that need to be worked out.
“Lieutenant Andrew Kirk,” Kirk said as he stuck out his hand for Armory officer to shake, “I don’t believe we’ve ever met.”
“Ensign Dather Bylen.” Came the reply.
“Nice to meet you Ensign,” Kirk said before moving onto more business related issues before he was again kicked off the bridge by Nelson, “Can you tell me if your sensors are reading the repairs my teams have just finished?”

Jack sat idle in his seat looking at the viewscreen. He knew what was waiting for them. Even though the Romulan ship was most likely damamged it was really close to Romulan space. He could see if any communications were being transmitted, but at the moment there was no way he could stop it. There was nothing he could do and it was killing him. There was no valid reason for him to leave the bridge, though he feared leaving it alone with Nelson.
"Captain, have you made a final decision on who is going to be on the away team?" Jack asked as he handed him a padd, " I know you didn't ask, but here are my recommendations."
Nelson would read the need for an two four man teams consisting of himself, Jack, four MACO's, Saryn and Andy. The first team would dock with the ship and take out any Romulans on the ship. The second team would quickly follow and establish control. After establishing control, one team would stay on the ship while the other goes inside the shuttle back to Challenger. That was the gist of it. It wasn't perfect, but Jack was sure that most would find it viable.
"Like I said, its just an idea," Jack said as he went back to his station and hoped that the Romulan ship would go to warp and force Nelson to stop the chase.
“Jack,” Kirk said as he reached Jack’s station, “Care to join me in the mess hall for a quick lunch break?”
~I think I just might~ Jack thought as he started to get up and join his friend for a few minutes.
~A-hole, a total pompous a-hole~ Jack thought as he sat himself down once again and continued to do nothing. Something that Nelson knew.

"Captain, have you made a final decision on who is going to be on the away team?" Jack asked as he handed him a padd, "I know you didn't ask, but here are my recommendations."
“You’re right Commander, I didn’t ask.” Robert said as he forced the PADD back into Jack’s chest with out even looking at it, “And, yes I did make my final decision on who is going to be on the away teams. That information will be disclosed to you and the rest of the crew at the proper time.”
Robert watched with hawk like eyes as Lieutenant Kirk walked onto the bridge and approached Jack at his station. The two conversed for a second before Robert felt the need to take action.
“Care to join me in the mess hall for a quick lunch break?” Robert heard as he approached the two officers.
Robert stood as tall as he could as the Chief Engineer walked past him back toward the rear of the bridge. Robert eyed Jack quickly before turning his attention back to the Engineer who seemed to not want to leave the bridge.
Robert was going to say something when he heard that the conversation had turned to a purely business discussion. As he sat down in the center chair Robert kept his eyes open and tried his best to listen in on the conversation between Kirk and Bylen.
------LATER-------------
After a ship wide call for all senior staff members to report to the bridge, Robert stood and called up the plans for this mission.
“As you can see we are going to be engaging a small Romulan ship, as of right now we aren’t sure as for the class of the ship. Long-range sensors only inform us that it has suffered some damage by an apparently stray asteroid. I want to make sure the same thing doesn’t happen to us, so I want all JR officers manning as many sensors as possible.” Robert said as he walked around the ground, “Now, this is the plan of attack.”
Robert called up a few diagrams of the region the Romulan ship was a drift in; it was a nebula with good concealment, but the ship was sitting on the edge of the nebula, making it easy to spot with their stand off sensors but almost impossible for it to see out through the cloud.
“We are going to attack hard and fast, shooting first at its weapons systems, then we will attach and hold on to the ship with our grappling arms. I want two shuttles to advance onto these two specific port holes.” Robert said as he pointed to the diagram of the same class ship they had on file, “Major Rickman will be leading the first shuttle with four soldiers plus Saryn as medical support. Commander Logan will command shuttle two, with Lt. Kirk, Ensign Bylen and two MACO soldiers as guards. We don’t need prisoners, so you’ll free to shoot to kill. Once the ship is secure I will beam over to take command of the Romulan ship. We attack in two hours, so if there are no questions, you are all dismissed.”

To Kirk the plan seemed simple enough, get on board fix any problems the Romulans had possibly created in order to prevent the ship from falling into ememy hands. There were two issues that the Engineer first needed to address.
"Sir, which one of us know how to read Romulan? I know it's not me." Kirk said looking at the group, "Jack?"

"Second, where will you be during all of this?"

Jack listened attentively to Nelson's briefing and found some aspects of his order appalling. He had given them permission to fire on sight, something that Adams would never order. The Romulans didn't have the capability to do anything against them. It could almost be seen as murder. Jack wanted to object, but knew it wouldn't do anything to help the situation. Nelson would still order them to follow his instructions. Hopefully, the Romulans would abandon ship once they saw them coming.
"Sir, which one of us know how to read Romulan? I know it's not me." Kirk said looking at the group, "Jack?"
"Yes, but I'm not proficent in it yet," Jack responded," its a bit complicated. It's not helpful that I've only heard Romulan over our comm system."
Nelson was about to respond to his statement, but Andy asked a question that in Jack's opinion shouldn't have been asked. He knew that Nelson would say something negative and cause even more of a rift between him and everyone else.
"Lt. Kirk, the Captain will monitor the situation from the bridge," Jack said hoping that his friend would understand that he didn't want any heat coming his way," I and Major Rickman are experienced in leading away teams. Captain Nelson is not."

"He is, however the captain," Saryn countered, feeling the need to at least defend their new unexperienced CO on this, "and he is a Starfleet officer. If Starfleet had thought him incapable of making command decisions, he would not have been promoted."
He glanced around the group of gathered officers. "And as acting medical officer, I deem the captain fit for duty. However, I do agree on the fact that he should join this landing party, as he is still the captain. But that decision is still his to make."
Saryn made a point of not making eye contact with Nelson, but keeping it with Kirk and Logan. "We will take this ship, but will try to avoid unnecessary casualties. However, if we do encouner Romulans that are unwilling to submit we must not hesitate to overcome them. It will be them or us."

Kirk nodded and took a step back letting everybody know he wasn’t going to press the issue. He could feel Nelson’s eyes upon him but he wasn’t going to show how uncomfortable it had him feel.
Once the briefing had finally managed to end Kirk approached his good friend Jack.
“Jack, I need something that I can integrate into my PDA that will allow me to translate Romulan words into English. There’s no way if we run into an emergency situation that I can wait on a translator such as yourself. Think you can managed a program like that?”
