ooc: I've started an R&R as I was getting bored and impatient...sorry...
Saryn had lost track of time since having been back on Miranda. He wasn't certain how many days had passed ever since eluding the Romulans, or whoever they had been on the day he, Vespis and Tigis had beamed back down, together with the child, Numike. They had returned to the clan, then noticing that Loken had not returned.
The Vulcan had patiently explained the phenomenon of a transporter, and that it was likely that Loken had been transported to the Challenger together with his own crewmates. Though still looking sufficiently pale, the Vulcan was actually starting to feel better. He had reduced his use of the respirator to a few times a day, as the one respirator was the only one he had taken with him. He also used his medications as sparsely as possible as he had no idea when he would be able to return home.
The lack of response from Challenger did worry him, even though he was unwilling to admit that. He was worried, as normally an SOS wouldn't have gone unanswered. Saryn viewed the cave before him, which he now started to view as home instead. He was comfortable now with the Mirandans, even though the younglings insisted on having a taste of his blood. There too, he was careful as he had no supplies of packed cells either and he was still recovering from the loss of blood his injuries had caused.
His left arm was covered in tiny punctures, and even his throat sported a few new ones. The adults too insisted they have a taste, and by means of courtesy, Saryn could not refuse. He did warn them only to taste, as he had just been ill and had no means to resupply any serious blood loss. He indulged in their curiosity as much as possible, noting that Numike was the only constant at his side during those times, hanging on every word he said.
Vespis too rarely moved from his side, warning her clan not to do anything Saryn had told them not to do. And that included feeding on him, as she understood Saryn was starting to feel like feeding cattle at the moment. She cast him an apologetic look, then added a radiant smile. She quite liked this green skinned stranger, and even had tried to win him to herself. She had, however, accepted his explanation of having a wife and two sons back home. That did not mean she ceased her efforts, she would just be very careful about not letting him notice.
Saryn, in the mean time worked in the community as a local healer, learning local means of healing and teaching the local healers anything he could teach them. After a while, he started to enjoy himself and thought less and less about the Challenger, even though his family never strayed far from his thoughts.

"Vulcans huh?" Leth asked as the shuttlepod sped forward towards the station where the Challenger was docked. "ive never seen a vulcan before" The pilot simply nodded in response and continued to fly, alittle annoyed at Leth for talking, the entire time they had been together in the shuttlepod, dubbed New Beginning. Leth thought about asking what a vulcan looked like, but figured he would see soon enough, so he didnt need to worry about it. As the shuttlepod approached the ship, the pilot called in his request. "NX Challenger, this is shuttlepod New Beginning, permission to dock and drop off a new recruit" A few seconds of silence before Leth heard a response. "New Beginning, permission granted, Welcome abour ensign Dawson." Leth smiled as he heard his name and bounced around a little in his seat as he waited.
When the shuttlepod landed Leth quickly stepped off to look at the inside of the shuttlepod bay, having never really seen a starship before. He walked around in circles looking at the ceiling, then at the walls, and then back at the ceiling. With a whistle in admiration he stepped forward to see a higher ranking individual standing before him, a welcoming party of sorts Leth figured, since Leth was knew to the whole starship thing. "welcome aboard Ensign"

Lieutenant Commander Martha Dwayne looked down on the newcomer. "Captain Kirk will receive you in his office," she told the newcomer, "and welcome aboard Ensign..." She looked sideways to check her PDA. "Dawson. If you walk with me, then we can have you assigned your quarters, so can stow your gear." This time she smiled. "And perhaps freshen up a little. When is the last time you ate?"
She patted the young man on his shoulder. "Report to the captain in an hour," she ordered, after showing him his new quarters, then walked away.
~meanwhile~
Saryn looked up at the sky and frowned. There was no sign of any rain coming up anytime soon, which was bad because his vegetables would die if they didn't get any water soon. He sat on his knees at the side of his little garden, just like he had done the past few days. And almost as if on que, his masked friend showed up again. So far, the creature hadn't spoken a word but Saryn could distinctly see the pointed ears, even if he could not see his friend's face.
Therefor, Saryn had taken to calling him Zorro, after the old Earth legend of the masked freedomfighter who never showed his true face to the people. Zorro held out his hand to the Vulcan, nodding in silence for him to take the offered gift.
Saryn held out his hand to receive the item, then examined it with interest. It was another seed, but it was different of colour than the other ones he'd received earlier. "What will this grow?" he asked, not even expecting an answer. He used the energy of his PDA sparsely, but he wasn't going to plany anything that might be poison to him. He had to be careful with what he ate, especially with his lactose intolerance and wheat allergy. So far, he'd been able to eat anything offered though he duly refused any meat. The Mirandans accepted the explanation that he would get very sick if he ate meat, since he didn't think they would understand the concept 'vegetarian'.
After the seed proved to be safe, Saryn dug a hole in the freshly proughed soil, something which he also did by hand. He saw Zorro cock his head as if he were listening to something. "What is it?" Saryn asked, covering the seed as he spoke.
Zorro still didn't speak, but motioned for Saryn to move aside. Just as he moved, the soil exploded in his face, sending them both sprawling. Sand rained down on both men, nearly burying them after the violent explosion. More masked creatures showed up, dragging Zorro away from him even as his friend tried to help him to his feet.
Saryn too was dragged to his feet, his arms held locked tightly behind his back as he struggled to get free. "Watch," one of them hissed in his ear, in perfect Vulcan. Zorro struggled against his captors, but it appeared to be useless. "This is what we do with traitors," the voice hissed as the person the voice belonged to forced him to watch his friend getting killed.
"No," Saryn breathed, struggling.
"Fighting is useless," his captor hissed, "but it's not you we're after. And you'll forget seeing this." A white cloth appeared in Saryn's line of sight and he could already smell what it was drenched in. He gagged as the cloth was pressed over his nose and mouth and slowly his struggles ceased until he finally collapsed.
"Put him in the crater," the masked leader ordered, "they'll find him in due time. Make it look like an accident and make sure all trace of the traitor disappears."

Kirk walked through out the ship in a slightly groggy state. Even though the nurses suggested that he return to his quarters for rest after the removal of the Mirandian face implants, he felt restless and needed to walk off the surgery. As he walked he couldn’t stop feeling his face and making comments to himself about how nice it was to be back in his own skin.
As he reached the bridge he was informed of a new officer on board, a one Ensign Leth, the new Chief Armory Officer. Before he could say anything he was also informed of a message he had from Admiral Gardner. The Admiral was requesting a report on the mission and Kirk wasn’t really looking forward to having to tell the Admiral about what happened.
“Tell Ensign Leth I’ll see him in a bit.” Kirk replied to the Communications Officer.
“Aye sir.”
Entering his ready room Kirk opened the message once he sat down at his desk. In front of him was Gardner, he looked concerned about something. Kirk hoped that the war wasn’t turning bad for Starfleet and the coalition.
“Congratulations Captain,” Gardner started, “Starfleet has decided to promote you to the rank of Captain and give you complete command of the NX-03 Challenger. On your desk should be a set of new bars for your uniform. Wear them with pride Captain. Gardner out.”
Kirk watched as the screen went black with the end of the message. He leaned back in his chair and saw the small box that contained his new rank bars. With a smile he opened the box and eyed the new set of Captain’s bars that seemed to gleam in the light of his office.
off: hey guys sorry i've been away. my computer should be fixed come thursday night.

"Actually im not that hungry, but i would like the chance to unpack." Leth smiled as he watched her leave, then turned to his quarters where he pressed the buttons to open the door. Stepping in he looked around and nodded his head in appreciation, "nice place" he said to himself as he dropped off his bag and started to put up a few pictures.
After he had finished unpacking his clothes and other personal items, he went to find the captain in his office. He waited until he was told to enter, and then stepped in through the doors. "Sir, Ensign Lethmir Dawson reporting as ordered"

As Jack Logan looked upon the stars he couldn't help but think if Saryn was still alive. The only Vulcan that he could call a friend was stranded on a planet that was filled with countless enemy. He couldn't help but feel responsible for what happened. If he hadn't gotten hurt, it wouldn't have turned out like it had.
Jack had been cleared to return to duty a few days ago, but he had asked for a few personal days to think about things. Everyone knew that they were headed towards the Vulcan spacestation. They didn't need him and right now he didn't need them. In a few short months, they had left two crewmates alone and lost. Those two crewmates were in that position because of him and until they were rescued it would always eat at him.
"Commander, can I come in?" Nurse Cambell asked on cue.
"Enter," Jack said as he turned towards the door. It seemed that his reversal from Vampire to human was having some adverse effect. His migranes were unbearable and he was not able to sleep for more than minutes at a time.
"Commander this is the eighth day, I think we need to get you to sickbay," Cambell said as he administered the drug," no one else is experiencing these side effects."
"No, I'd rather wait until we reach the space station, if they haven't stopped by then I'll ask for a leave of absence," Jack said as he rubbed the spot that the needle has punctured his skin.
"Alright, but please be adviced that I have to inform Captian Kirk about this," Cambell said," he has become suspicious and he kind of ordered us to tell him what was wrong with you."
"I understand, Andy has always worried about me," Jack said remembering the days when it was the other way around.
"Alright, I'll see you tomorrow," Cambell said as he left Jack with his thoughts once again.

Continued from my last post in the mission thread…
After Mike’s meeting with Andy, his mind had been eased. He had discussed the issue with Saryn being left behind on Miranda at length with his Captain. Andy had given him assurances that they would be going back to Miranda, even if it didn’t feel like it. Challenger was docked at a vulcan space station and had been for the past couple of days, Mike didn’t mind help with repairing the ship but the vulcans he had assisting him seemed arrogant and self important. Something Mike thought about all vulcans until he had met Saryn, Mike had missed their resident vulcan.
2 days later …
Having had his mirandan ‘mask’ surgically removed, Mike had been visiting sickbay regularly for checkups and to check on Jack and Riggs. Riggs had been remained unconscious since he was knocked off the gantry in Engineering but Mike always checked on him. The truth was Neil was probably his first friend since arriving upon the ship and he was ever the optimist. A trait that Mike had missed in Engineering.
Sitting by Neil’s bed, Mike just talked to his fallen crewmate – explaining his day and the obnoxious vulcans he was having to deal with. McCain had informed Mike that Jack had opted to return to his quarters and was apparently less than himself since his appearance had been returned to normal. Leaving Neil, Mike thought he would head to Jack’s quarters and see if the Communications Officer was up and about yet.
Arriving outside Jack’s quarters he pushed the door chime to enter… as he heard the door unlock he pushed and entered to find the Commander’s quarters in complete darkness. “Jack are you there?” Mike called
There was no response; “Commander its Wallace… are you okay?”
Again there was an eerie silence...

"Sir, Ensign Lethmir Dawson reporting as ordered"
“Good, good.” Kirk said. He had been waiting for the ships new Chief Armory Officer to arrive and after days of waiting he had finally arrived, “I hope your trip out here wasn’t too unpleasant.”
Lethmir smiled half-heartedly at Kirk comment, but remained standing until Kirk motioned for him to have a seat.
“I won’t lie,” Kirk said pulling out a PDA, “This isn’t the safest duty to be on.” Kirk handed Lethmir the PDA with Challengers general information and mission history. “We are a front line ship and I need to make sure that we have the best officer manning the guns; and I believe that officer is you.”
Kirk sat and watched as Lethmir took the PDA and scanned it for a brief moment before turning his attention back to Kirk. He could tell that Lethmir had a quality that would gel very well with the crew of the Challenger and he couldn’t wait to see what he could do.
“Your first assignment is to oversee the repairs to our hull plating and weapons systems. We took quite a pounding from the Romulans in our last engagement and I want to make sure we are ready for anything when he head back to Miranda.”
<Tag Lethmir>
After Lethmir left Kirk turned to his monitor and picked up another small box. On the top of the box was a name, Mike Wallace. Just as with Kirk, this box for Wallace contained his new pips, something that he knew Mike had earned.
Pushing the COM button for Main Engineering, Kirk waited for a reply, “Engineering.” Kirk didn’t recognize the voice at first.
“Where is Ensign Wallace?” Kirk asked.
“Mike left for Sickbay sir, why?” Replied the voice.
“When he returns have him come to my Ready Room.” Kirk said.
“Yes, of course sir.” Replied the voice in more of a respectful manner after he realized with whom he was speaking to.

"Unsafe duty? well that suits me just fine, just means theres more action. I'll do my best to do what i can, you can count on that sir" Leth replied happily as he was being complimented already, without doing anything yet. Leth looked at the PDA with interest, for only a few moments before looking back at the captain, he would read over the last missions later.

"Romulans?" Leth asked, just making sure he had heard right. "Ill get right on the repairs"

~ Challenger ~ T'Vin and her youngest son Sodon were being stopped by one of the security guards at the docking hatch of the NX Challenger. "We are here to see Captain Andrew Kirk," T'Vin stated coldly, "my mate Saryn is his chief medical officer."
Startled by her coldness, the security guard murmured an apology and stepped aside to let the woman and the boy pass. T'Vin ignored the young officer and beckoned Sodon to follow her. Fifteen year old Sodon glanced around, marveling at the ingenuitity that was put into building a fine starship such as Challenger. "Mother, will we visit father's workplace as well?"
T'Vin turned to her son. "Perhaps," she started as she walked on, "but first I need to speak to Captain Kirk. Your father's disappearance troubles me, and since he has not been in contact with me like he usually does, I fear something is very wrong." She motioned for her son to walk on and explore as he pleased. "Stay away from restricted area's," she warned him, knowing her son was very inquisitive in nature.
Sodon nodded and walked off, bumping into Lethmir Dawson as he rounded a few corners. Stumbling back, the boy straightened himself. "My apologies sir," he started, "I was trying to find my way to sickbay. I am looking for my father."
Meanwhile, T'Vin had found her way to Challenger's bridge. "I would like to speak with Captain Andrew Kirk," she said as she got off the lift. "It is imperative that I speak with him. Where may I find him?"
~ Miranda ~
Saryn awoke slowly, feeling nauseous and disoriented. He lay face down in the loose sand and he tasted the dirt in his mouth. Coughing, he rolled onto his back, wincing as his left leg wouldn't obey his mind's command to move. A piercing scream brought him back to full awareness and he stared up towards the edge of the crater he was in. Numike's face appeared over the edge, looking stricken.
Coughing again, he crawled towards the slope, trying to work his way up. However, the sand was so loose that he kept sliding down. He didn't know how he got here and he couldn't remember what had happened that had even caused this crater to appear. It wasn't a deep crater, but it was deep enough to prevent him from climbing out in his current weakened state.
"Saryn!" Numike cried again, edging closer. She turned when she heard someone approach. Her expression turned to one of horror when Somon approached at a slow pace. "Go away!" she cried, "leave him alone!"
Somon crouched beside the hysterical girl and peered down the crater. "Stay here," he told the girl, then slid down the slope towards the Vulcan. "You're injured," he said matter of factly, as he gently lowered Saryn back to the floor. "Let me have a look."
Saryn was too stunned to even respond; he was still trying to remember what had happened and the only thing he did remember was seeing a friend get killed and then everything was a complete blank. He allowed Somon to examine him, and didn't resist when the Mirandan slung him over his shoulders and started crawling back up.
"Numike go warn Tigis that I'm coming," Somon admonished the frightened girl, "I promise I won't harm him." As the girl ran on, Somon walked on at a slower pace with his burden slung across his shoulders. Several long minutes later, he walked into the cave where Tigis and Vespis relieved him and took Saryn to his own alcove.
"Where did you find him?" Tigis demanded as he knelt down beside his now unconscious friend.
"Down a crater, in the garden he has been tending to for the past days," Somon explained, "I heard Numike scream, as at first I had no intention of going to see what had caused that crater to appear. It wasn't there a few hours ago." He paused, looking down at Tigis examining the alien. "What is he doing here anyway," he demanded, "I thought his lot had gone away."
"He was left behind," Vespis spoke up, "and he's been an asset to our community, quite unlike you. However.." She paused, then led Somon to a seat. "We thank you for bringing him back to us rather than killing him as you tried before. You are even now, as you owed him and now your debt to him has been repaid. If you wish, you are welcome back in our community."
Somon bent his head in shame. "What does Loken say?"
"Loken is not here. He disappeared with Challenger, possibly when their ship rescued them from the other strangers. I'm sure he's safe." She turned to Tigis, who was now quietly talking to their Vulcan friend.
Numike crawled up to Saryn. "I was worried about you," she whispered, "are you all right now?"
Fighthing down the nausea from the choloroform, Saryn nodded. "I will be," he promised, "but it will take some time to regain my memory of this event. I do not remember what exactly happened."
Tigis nodded in understanding. "It'll come back when you least expect it," he said knowingly, "at least you are alive and have no lasting injuries. You are lucky you didn't break anything after that tumble you seem to have taken. Just a sprain and a bit of a concussion probably. Just rest Saryn, you won't be doing any rounds today."
"I'll watch over him," Somon offered, "we need to talk anyway."
"Dad?" Numike said suddenly, then fell quiet, feeling she had said something out of order.
"Yes Numike?" Saryn answered, unphased by the use of her terminology.
"When they come back, what will become of me?"
Saryn fell silent, exchanging a few glances with the adults around him. "I do not know," he answered, "either someone here will care for you, or I will discuss your adoption with my wife."

Leth had gathered information on who was working on the hull repairs on a few PDAs and was on his way down to an airlock, where he was going to get into a space suit and go out to look at the hull himself. While walking down the hallways he was reading the PDA to see who was currently working, Ensign Moz it seemed. The ensign had a good record and was a top notch engineer as well. When Leth turned a corner, and bumped into someone, he was a little startled to see a Vulcan boy. "My apologies sir," he started, "I was trying to find my way to sickbay. I am looking for my father."
Leth looked at the vulcan boy with much interest, before suddenly realizing that he was doing so. "my apologies as well, i've never actually met a Vulcan before. As for your father, im afriad i dont know who he is, i havent been onboard for very long. However, if you have any interest in helping with hull repairs, I could always use an extra hand, Ensign Moz could use some rest i believe. By the way, my name is Lethmir Dawson, but you can call me Leth "

"My father is your doctor," Sodon replied matter-of-factly, but surprised at the fact that this security officer didn't know who his father was, let alone who his doctor was. "His name is Saryn," he added, for the ensign's benefit. "And I am Sodon. My mother has gone to the bridge to talk to your captain, she seems to think my father is missing. But my father would never leave the ship, would he? He is a good doctor, would he not stay in sickbay?"
At fifteen years old, Sodon was still fairly naive for his age, especially since he had never set foot on a station before today. He had, of course, left Earth and had visited Vulcan to pass his kahswan when he was seven years old, but that was pretty much that. And upcoming year he would have to choose what subject he wished to study. Dawson's offer seemed like a good start to make a choice, especially since Sodon didn't want to become a doctor like his father and like Savin was going to be.
"Oh can I help you?" he asked, almost too eagerly. When he realised it, he pulled his eager expression back into a neutral one and took a few breaths to regain his control. "Sir I shall endeavour not to be in your way," he rephrased, "but I shall endeavour to learn from the experience."

“Jack are you there?” Mike called, “Commander its Wallace… are you okay?”
At first Jack thought that he had finally begun to hear things, but when he heard the same voice again he realized that there was someone at the door. He was in no mood to speak to anyone, but he wasn't about to be rude to Mike for just trying to help him. He slowly walked towards the door and opened it up which must have surprised Mike.
"Hey..........."

Suddenly the doors to Jack’s quarters sprang open, catching Mike off guard as he instinctively took a step back. In the darkness of the room he could see a figure move towards him…
"Hey..........." Sounded Jack in a crackly voice…
“Jack, are you okay?” Mike asked,
<Jack>
“Apparently you were supposed to check in with sickbay earlier and you missed it. Are you feeling any side effects as a result of the operation?”
<Jack>
Jack hunched wearily, as Mike spoke at the Commander. “If you need anything Jack, you know where I am… I have to run back down to Engineering, I’ll swing by to see if you’re feeling better in a few hours.”
<Jack>
As Mike left Jack and walked the corridors of Challenger to get back to Engineering he watched as the various vulcans walked across the ship assisting with repairs and upgrades. He couldn’t help but think of Saryn, he hoped he was still alive and out of the clutches of the evil mirandan military. Returning to Engineering he watched as the vulcans ordered around his Engineers, he knew it was something that many could not abide but their help in reparations was needed.
Lt. Cole approached Mike as he sat down at his station and picked up a pda on the progress of repairs and upgrades. “Mike, the Captain wants to see you in his ready room.”
“Did he say what it was about?” Mike inquired.
“Fraid not Chief.” Robert replied.
“Okay thanks Robert. Keep an eye on things down here. I’ll be in the Captain’s ready room if there is a warp core breach or something equally disastrous that would warrant disturbing me. Then let me know unless its to do with the vulcans!” Mike chuckled as he left Robert to look after the vulcans and the hub of activity that engineering had become.
Arriving outside Andy’s ready room, he tapped the door chime and then entered. Andy was deep in thought at his desk reviewing one of what looked like about 50 pdas strewn across his desk.
“You wanted to see me Sir?”
<Andy>

With that being said, Leth led the young vulcan towards the air latch, where they got dressed and attached cables so they could float away before engaging the grav. systems to their boots allowing them to walk on the outside with realitive ease. Leth waited until Sodon was ready before opening the latch and allowing himself to float off into space, until the cable caught and held him a few meters from the hull. Turning on the grav system he landed with dull thump and started walking towards the repairs. "Ensign Moz?" He asked one suited man who was standing back and watching. The enisgn nodded and then stuck his gloved hand out to shake. "Im ensign Lethmir Dawson, the new armory officer, im here to releave you for the repairs." Moz nodded his head and thanked Leth before heading off towards the air latch.
Leth looked at Sodon for a second before moving forward to look at the progress. checking with a few areas, he saw they were almost done and decided to move on to the one area that had alitle bit of work left to do. Bending down to grab an open torch, Leth started to show Sodon what he was doing. (and i dont really know what he would be doing, but it sounds good) "First, we place the hull plating down in the area we want it, making sure it lines up with the others and that nothing has gotten under it, like debris or some dust, or even...." he stopped looking down, to see his cable caught underneath the plating, " a cable" Pulling the cable away he placed the plating down and then started to weld it into place. After showing Sodon how to weld the plating into place, he moved on with the installation showing Sodon the rest as it came up in the process. "Think you got it? i gotta go see how the rest of them are doing and ill be right back"

“You wanted to see me Sir?”
“Yes I did,” Kirk said as he looked up from his growing pile of reports in PDA format, “have a seat.”
Mike sat down quickly while Kirk looked for the right words. He had never had the chance to promote somebody under his command yet so this was a new experience for him.
“Mike,” Kirk started, “You’re a damn good officer, you handled yourself under stressful conditions down there and after talking with Admiral Gardner we both agree you deserve a set of these.” Kirk finished by sliding a small blue box cross the table toward Mike.

“Congratulations.” Kirk said shaking Mike’s hand, “There is more though. I need a good person I can trust to be in command if something happens to me. I hadn’t selected a First Officer because I really couldn’t decide who could do the job. It was a hard choice between you and Jack, but I had to choose somebody, and I would like you to be Challenger’s XO. How does that sound?”

"Get them" Kaulo heard as he and two others were running down a passage way leading to the outside. "Run Kaulo, we'll old them off" His eyes opened in shock as the other two stopped to turn and fight. "what are you talking about, I cant leave you behind" Kaulo called back, unsheathing a sword he had taken from a guard and running to join them. The three of them fought off a small group of 4 dark skinned mirandans, the anger of being slaves for years flowing through their pale veins. "if we lose our leader the rebellion is over, Kaulo you have to escape" The older pale faced mirandan spoke.
As soon as the 4 were dispatched, Kaulo and the others ran outside, only to be stopped by 3 masked figures, with phase pistols. "your not going anywhere slaves" Kaulo looked in horror as his two pale faced companions charged forward, tackling two of the guards and shoving the third aside. "Run Kaulo!!" He charged forward tossing his sword aside and keeping his head down as he blindly ran forward. He felt hot pain in his shoulder from a phase pistol shot, but continued to run.
Hours later Kaulo was stumbling blindly ahead, holding his left arm with his right and wiping the sweat pouring down his face, sticking his black hair to his malnourished face. Kaulo looked up with a moment of clarity to see a village a few leagues away, slowly stumbling onward Kaulo's Grey eyes finally closed as he fell to the ground unconscious

"I would like to speak with Captain Andrew Kirk," she said as she got off the lift. "It is imperative that I speak with him. Where may I find him?"
Kirk had just finished his conversation with Mike and both officers had just stepped onto the Bridge when he heard T’Vin’s comments.
“I’m Andrew Kirk,” Kirk said forgetting to place his rank before his name, “What can I do for you?”
“I need to know what has happened to my husband.”
Kirk was surprised by the woman’s to the point attitude, although he shouldn’t have been. He knew from experience that Vulcans didn’t beat around the bush when it came to getting answers to imperative questions. What also had surprised him was the fact that she knew Saryn was missing; he had only just filed his report to Admiral Gardner. Either Saryn was very well connected or T’Vin just happened to be waiting here for her husband.
“If you step into my office we can speak more privately.” Kirk said with a simple gesture in the direction of his door.

[Sodon] The boy watched as Leth worked, trying his best to stay out of the security officer's way. When the chief finally got up and told him to continue, Sodon gulped. "Sir?" he called after the retreating officer, "I am not qualified to do this. I have not even finished highschool yet!"
[T'Vin] The Vulcan woman followed the captain into the privacy of his ofice. "My husband has not contacted me for weeks," T'Vin started, "usually he contacts his family on a weekly basis but ever since his latest mission, no messages have reached us. Since no-one could tell me when Challenger would return to Earth, I have gained permission for myself and my youngest son to travel here."
She paused, taking a seat and glancing up at the captain in a cold but analytical manner. "I wish to know what happened to my husband," she finally demanded.
[Saryn] "Come with me," Somon said, after an uncomfortable silence had fallen. " There is something I wish to show you." He nodded towards Numike. "Child, you must stay here. What I need to show the good doctor is something for adults only."
Saryn nodded and followed Somon through the maze of caves, until they reached a larger cave with a small entrance leading outside, that was very hot and brightly lit by a fire in the middle. Carefully hanged against the wall were many swords, in all lengths and sizes. Somon turned to the Vulcan. "Take off your shirt, and don't argue with me," he admonished, picking up a long piece of rope that was tied in a knot periodically.
Knowing better than to argue with an armed man, Saryn pulled off his tunic and carefully laid it aside. Somon walked up to him with the rope, but instead of tying it, he seemed to be taking measurements. "Here, see if you can lift this," Somon continued, handing a large rock over. Nodding in approval he set Saryn a few more tests until the Vulcan finally acknowledged a hint of annoyance. The Mirandan walked over to his shelf and pulled out a bronze-coloured sword, then held it up against the fire, letting the light bounce off the metal, making it appear as though the metal itself were aflame.
"Take this," Somon told him, holding the sword out to Saryn. Even as the Vulcan took it, he pulled another from the rack, and held it out, blade first, tipping it against Saryn's. "Now let's see how proficient you are and how fast you learn. While you stay here, you can't rely on that energy weapon of yours, you need a sword, and swiftness if you are to survive. You have been wounded several times now, so it is time you learned to think like one of us."
The two sparred for several hours, eventually covered in small cuts and bruises, and panting for breath. Both men turned as they heard a thud behind them. A stranger had collapsed at the entrance, and both men rushed forward. "He is injured," Saryn concluded after a brief examination. "Help me get him to the main cave, he needs attention. Tigis needs to help."
"Take your sword," Somon told the Vulcan, "and we shall take him with us. I don't know him..so we must be careful what we show him." When they had gotten him to Tigis, Somon carefully slapped his cheek. "Wake up stranger, who are you."
"Somon, step aside," Saryn ordered, "I shall tend to him and wait until he wakes up."

Kirk stood in an awkward silence. His curiosity about whether Saryn was very well connected was answered with a few short words. On the other hand he now had a worried wife in his office asking where her husband was. These were the situations that Kirk felt especially unprepared for, the face-to-face talks about loved ones who were either MIA or KIA. In reality it was probably a big security risk to be giving out this information, seeing as Saryn was missing on a hostile planet deep in Romulan held space. The tension in the room was getting stronger and it wasn’t because of the cool and calm appearing Vulcan, it was because of him and what he had to say. He hoped that if he remained standing he would appear more relaxed but the opposite was the case, more than anything Kirk felt as if he needed to sit down for this one. “Saryn risked his life to come back to the planet to make sure the entire landing party returned safely. At the time I wasn’t aware of his actions and he had to break orbit to defend ourselves from three Romulan war ships. We received heavy damage and were forced to flee the system.” Just as Kirk say more the COM system cut him off and Jack’s voice came through, “Captain we’ve just received a Priority One message from Admiral Gardner.” Kirk took a deep breath and found himself relieved by this sudden interruption. He excused himself while he turned the monitor so it would face only him. With several quick keystrokes Kirk opened the message and was surprised at how short it was; Admiral Gardner was well known for being longwinded. Captain,
It is never an easy thing when we lose a man during an away mission, let alone two, but the planet it just too heavily guarded and we cannot risk your ship and all her crew to rescue one Vulcan Medical Officer.
Request Denied.
Admiral Gardner Kirk didn’t know if his face showed the multitude of emotions he was feeling but it seemed that T’Vin had picked up on them right away, “Is there a problem?” “Not really.” Kirk said lying through his teeth. His request to return to Miranda had been denied and that left a man, who in Kirk’s mind was invaluable to the crew, alone on a hostile planet. He got up from his desk after turning off his monitor and stood by the single window in his office. From this view he could see that the repair crews had finished their duty and were starting to move onto other battle damaged ships in the area. In the distance he spotted a single Poseidon Class Starship approaching the Vulcan station. She looked as if she was in need of only minor repairs and would be out from docking in a matter of days. This new development brought a smile to Kirk’s face. He turned to face T’Vin saying, “We’re going to get Saryn back, you have my word.”

Mike sat himself down in the chair opposite the Captain’s and his desk. Mike felt like a schoolchild being called before the Headteacher as he waited for Andy to begin. He watched as Andy seemed to pause before beginning and with great trepidation he sat on the edge of his seat…
“Mike,” Andy started, “You’re a damn good officer, you handled yourself under stressful conditions down there and after talking with Admiral Gardner we both agree you deserve a set of these.”
Mike was surprised, he had convinced himself that he was going to get a ticking off but instead he was being promoted. Before he could answer, Andy slid a small blue box before Mike and flipped the box open to reveal 2 pips shining with the light from the room reflecting upon them.
Mike gasped for air as a Cadet he had dreamt of this moment, as he fitted the pips onto the collar of his duty jumpsuit. “Thank you, Sir” Mike grinned. As Andy offered his hand “Congratulations.” Mike shook Andy’s hand vigorously and then Mike was surprised once more… as Andy began;
“There is more though. I need a good person I can trust to be in command if something happens to me. I hadn’t selected a First Officer because I really couldn’t decide who could do the job. It was a hard choice between you and Jack, but I had to choose somebody, and I would like you to be Challenger’s XO. How does that sound?”
Mike listened intently as Andy made him an offer beyond his wildest dreams. XO of the Challenger he couldn’t find the words to accept quickly enough. He wondered why he had been chosen over Jack, but maybe it had something to do with the Communications Officer’s current state.
“I would be honoured to be your XO.”
Andy smiled, he was clearly pleased that his Chief Engineer would be his XO. Mike briefly discussed what the job would involve with Andy and then looked down at the pda that Andy had handed him with both his promotion and his position as Acting XO.
Mike and Andy walked to the Bridge, “I need to get back down to Engineering and make sure the Vulcans aren’t tampering with anything they shouldn’t be.” Mike laughed, knowing that Andy would get the joke as a fellow Engineer.
<Tag Andy>
As Mike and Andy were about to part ways they were interrupted by a vulcan female… “I need to know what has happened to my husband.” Mike looked across at Andy and by the look on his face, Mike knew it was Saryn’s wife. Mike nodded towards Andy and then took his leave to Engineering to continue his oversight of repairs.

Leth looked at the young boy with a smile, "dont worry about that, i've seen less qualified people do that same thing you are." Leth then turned and left the boy to either finish the work, or wait for Leth's return. Making his rounds of the repairs he found that everyone had finished and were heading inside, leaving Leth and Sodon on the outside to finish a few more panels.
Leth walked over to Sodon, who had just finished one panel himself, and started to help lay out the others. When they had finished Leth led the boy inside and waited until the door to the airclose behind them before taking the cable off and getting undressed.

Kaulo stuggled with consciousness for a few minutes until finally lossing the battle and falling asleep to the sound of someones feet running towards him. Hearing bits and pieces of the "real world" kept him fighting against the darkness that enveloped him. "Hes got a fever" he heard more than once and at times felt a coolness wash over him as he slept. When his eyes finally opened, he saw unfamiliar faces and a strange place. "where am i?" he asked as he struggled to sit up, only to be pushed back down and have his questions answered.

[Challenger] T'Vin nodded curtly. "I shall trust you to keep your word captain," she answered coldly, before turning on her heel to leave the office. She went to seek out her son and found him in an airlock pulling off a space suit.
She stared at her young son in disbelief, crossing her arms over her chest as she waited for the boy to exit the airlock. He was closely followed by a young looking human, who seemed to have been guiding her son. "Sodon, what were you doing in that airlock, dressd in a space suit?"
The boy turned, visibly startled to find his mother there. "Mother!" he exclaimed, "I was looking for father but I encountered Ensign Leth Dawson instead. He let me assist him with repairs to the ship and security upgrates. I want to be a security officer mother, just like Mr Dawson!" The boy's eyes lit up with enthusiasm even when his mother seemed to become even more annoyed.
T'Vin turned to Dawson. "Ensign Dawson, I shall be sure to inform your captain that you took a child on an unauthorised space walk. While my son may have enjoyed himself, your actions were reckless and unsafe."
[Miranda] Saryn pressed the man back onto the slab of stone, gently holding him down. "You are safe," he assured him, while checking on his wounds. "Who shot you and why were they after you?" The man had pale skin, just like Loken and his clan, but he was obviously not of the clan. Neither Tigis, Somon nor Vespis seemed to know him and even Numike, who was not of the clan, didn't know him.
"I am Saryn and my companion is Tigis. We are both doctors and we are trying to help you, however you must tell us what happened and be truthful about it. Lie to us, and I am certain your lies will have you killed." His eyes flashed with a hint of suspiscion and anger, as he held up his fiery sword, which he had yet to name according to Mirandan tradition. "Do not doubt that I would not, even though I am not of Miranda."
Saryn knew he had been nicknamed the Angel from the Sky by some Mirandans he had helped, and he had accepted the nickname even though he had never used it to set himself apart. As far as he was concerned, he was just a stranded doctor with a mission to help out while he waited for his crewmates to come back for him. If they would ever come back for him. "I am the Angel from the Sky," he added, "and this is my sword, Angel of Fire." It was ironic really, that he was nicknamed to be an angel, when in Earth folklore, his appearance was sooner associated with the devil.

Leth looked at the older vulcan woman, knowing she was Saryn's wife, and Sodon's mother after hearing the words come out out of the young boys mouth. "Thank you ma'am, i wish you would tell my captain. Ill gladly take any form of punishment if it means i helped to shape a young mans future." Leth answer calmly, then winked at Sodon before leaving him with his mother.
~~~~~
"You are safe," he assured him, while checking on his wounds. "Who shot you and why were they after you?" "My name is Kaulo, the slavers shot me while i was escaping, and my friends......" Kaulo trialed off for a moment as he realized his friends my have sacrifised their lives to get him out. Even though he was meant to return and lead the rebellion, he couldnt help but feel as if he had already failed in his mission. "I have never told a lie sir, there was never a reason to while in slavery.
"I am the Angel from the Sky," he added, "and this is my sword, Angel of Fire." It was ironic really, that he was nicknamed to be an angel, when in Earth folklore, his appearance was sooner associated with the devil. "The Angel from the Sky, i have heard of you, Saryn and I ask for your help. I was sent to find help, you must help us free ourselves from the slavers."
