Jordan took a seat at the table. The place was getting more and more busy and Tanta was rushing around a lot more.
Trenia had watched as an Andorian male had walked in and had greeted the officers. She had considered asking him to join them, but he looked like he preferred to be by himself.
βDo you have any other brothers or sisters?β Trenia asked Jason.

Jason: I have 6 other brothers and sisters. 5 older, 1 younger. 3 sisters, 3 brothers. Mark is the oldest, at 35.
Trenia: And how old is the youngest?
Jason became very quiet and dropped his head.
Jason: "Actually, now I am the youngest. My sister Brianna died 15 years ago, at age 7. She fell 30 feet from a tree, and landed on a rock. One of her broken ribs punctured her lung. I watched as she died on a biobed of internal bleeding.
"It was then that I decided to devote my life to healing others. I was certified in First Aid by the Red Cross, and was trained as a Medic by Starfleet Medical. Then, I went to Medical School. After that, I signed up for Starfleet."

Just as Zhuk was taking a seat of in the corner, facing the others towards the door, he noticed another human female joining the full table. He overheard her introduce herself as Commander. This, apparently, had made an impression on the young cadet at the table as his forehead had wrinkled with raised eyebrows. Something had caught Zhuks eye too. It wasnβt the accompaniment of her dragon-like creature that had startled them by jumping onto the table. No, there was self-assurance and strength in her movements. Yet, she seemed weary, as if she had just had an encounter of some kind. Her creature displayed this same sort of aura, as if they were one. Of course Zhuk had heard of many species bonding with creatures to where these creatures werenβt just mere pets.
Zhuk dismissed his thoughts, just glad knowing he could still read people. A trait he had developed working along side and eventually leading troops. He remembered how extremely important it was to learn the strengths and weaknesses of the people you have to work with. Especially when your lives depended on each other.
The Andorian female had approached Zhukβs table with a tray of baked goods.
Tante Maria: βI am Tante Maria. Can I interest you in any of these pastries? It is a wonderful pleasure to see a new Andorian face.β
Zhuk: βI am Zhukarak Hrisvalar. Newly arrived for marine training. I will try two of these.β
Tante Maria: βGood choice. They are called Γ©clairs, freshly baked. You will be delighted to notice that the cream does slightly taste like our Andorian tuber root.β
Zhuk: βThank you.ββ¦.βIndeed! The flavor is very similar. I will also have some human coffee, please.β
With that request, Tante Maria left to get the coffee. In the meantime, Zhukarak was delighting in this newly discovered pastry, while at the same time keeping an eye and ear towards the table of five, or six with the creature. There was still something about the newest arrival. Zhuk was very curious about what was going on with her and her creature.

Jason watched the little dragon-creature for a few moments.
Jason: Jordan, what exactly is that thing?

TJ had finished his last Γ©clair and had listened and contributed to the small talk being bounced around the table like a basketball at the warm-up circle before the game.
Finally, aware he had to prepare to move his personal belongings back from his residence on Starbase Conqueror to the Hepta, and then move everything from his previous cabin to his new quarters, TJ stood.
"'Tis beggin' your leave I am, but I do have things that need attendin' to. We'll be seein' ye on th' Hepta?" he asked, then, when the good-byes had circulated, he walked out the door with a good-bye wave to the proprietors, those at his table, and the quiet Andorian sitting by himself.

Jordan smiled as she saw TJ left. Then she remembered that the Hanson should be back by now and she grew a little sad but then she heard the question about Draco.
Jordan: He's called a fire lizard. It's kinda like a miniaturized dragon. See the way his eyes keep changing colors? The colors are associated with the moods and emotions he shows. I came from a planet called Pern where humans and dragons, or fire lizards, have a mental bond with each other. They share emotions and thoughts with each other. When the person dies, the dragon dies. For a person to live while their companion dies is a very harsh thing. I have heard it described as losing a large part of yourself.
Draco disappeared from the table and appeared on Jordan's shoulder.
Jordan: I almost forgot that all dragons and fire lizards have the ability to go in between where they disappear from one place and appear in another. Between is a very cold place that has no light or sound.
She shuddered at the thought and then smiled at her soon-to-be cadet. She could tell he was older than her but yet she was the superior officer. That often applied to TJ's cadets too. TJ was only 20 or 21, she couldn't remember which.

Jason had been quite surprised when he saw Draco disappear and reappear.
Jason: "If he were holding on to something, would it go with him? What I mean is, if you were to wrap your body around him, would he be able to take you with him?"
"Also, does he cause any medical emergencies that you have to fix? Seems to be a liability considering you're the CMO"
He chuckled.

Zhuk overheard the conversation of the fire lizard and was glad to hear the confirmation of a bond between the two. He had just finished his Γ©clairs and coffee when his combadge chimed in with an automated message for all marine cadets to report in for their mission onboard the USS Hope.
This was it, the moment he was waiting for. βThank you!β he told Tante Maria. Maria responded with βOh, youβre quite welcomed. You make sure you have some more when you come back. Good luck!β with this Zhukarak left.
Upon entering his quarters on the base, to get his deployment gear, ho noticed a blinking light at his terminal. βComputer! Display incoming message.β Zhuk ordered. The computer responded βIncoming message from Section 47 Operations.β Zhukarak read the incoming message. To his surprise he was to report on board the USS Hope for the Chief Tactical/Security Officer, until further notice. This was definitely going to be a new venture. He packed his gear and off he went to report in for his first Starfleet assignment.
OOC: I know the USS Hope is a Nebula Class starship, but one of the posts stated that the bridge is a smaller version of a Galaxy Class. Is this correct, because Nebula and Galaxy class ships in-fact do have two very distinct bridges. Just would like to know where on the bridge my βstationβ is. Thanks!

Jordan laughed at Jason's question.
Jordan: No heart attacks yet. Though if any come up, I'll be sure to send them your way as I'll be handlin' the followin' reprimand from the person. Yes, you're right. If Draco is holdin' somethin' when he goes in between, it goes with him and reappears with him. Unfortunately, I'm too big for him to transport anywhere. For any person to be transported, you'd need a dragon, which unfortunately is too big to bring into the base. He does come in quite handy when I need a message to be sent to someone else when I'm busy with somethin'.
She kept working at her cookies and then saw Draco starting to advance on her food. She pulled it away.
Jordan: No Draco. I forgot to say to y'all that ya shouldn't feed Draco any chocolate as it won't agree with him in the slightest. Chocolate really only agrees with humanoids, to a certain degree.
Draco's eyes spun orange for annoyance, which was his equivalent for sticking out his tongue at her.

Jason: "I know how that is. I once gave my dog a sizable piece of chocolate. Man, I've never seen a dog throw up so much in my life."
"So Jordan, how did a person so young end up as a Commander? Especially a Doctor. I'm surprised you've had time to go through Medical School."

Draco's eyes spun orange for annoyance, which was his equivalent for sticking out his tongue at her. Xin-Ling, who had finished her teacakes and now held her coffee in both hands, sipping only occasionally, more interested in the conversation, laughed merrily at Draco's annoyed response.
"Then I so glad I am humanoid!" she quipped.

"That smells great!",Hans exclaimed loudly-too loudly it seemed as all heads turned at his sudden and unexpected outburst. He had just arrived at the bakery, after reporting in and was in the mood to sate his sweetooth with an eclair or two,and a gallon of coffee. It had been a long trip and he just wanted to start making some friends and get a layout of his new surroundings."Uh,sorry about that,I'm just a little excited to ge started on training and I get a little loud when I'm hungry"."By the way,Hi,I'm Cadet Hans Franz and I just arrived "."I was told by Commander Edwards to drop in and try the wares here, and from the smell,it would seem I have found paradise".

"That smells great!",Hans exclaimed loudly-too loudly it seemed as all heads turned at his sudden and unexpected outburst. With the others at the table, Xin-Ling turned her head with the coming of the new arrival to Tante Maria's. Her first impression was that the young cadet needed to quiet down. The bakery was not so large that it required such volume to make oneself heard. Xin-Ling's face slowly unmasked a smile.
That would explain loudness, she thought. Then, remembering there was still room at the table, as the one at which they were sitting could accomodate up to ten persons, she indicated one of the empty chairs.
"Much welcome to you, Cadet Franz. My name Xin-Ling Chan," said the petite Asian warrior as she introduced herself.
"Please have chair at table. Each one will introduce self," she said, sipping the last of her coffee.
Introductions went around the table, and, as they finished, Xin-Ling asked the newly-arrived cadet, "You tell us what department you are in? You medical... engineering... navigation... something else?"
Xin-Ling, curious, waited for his response.

Jason: You want paradise? Then I know just the thing. Maria, could we have half a dozen of the Bavarian-topped eclairs?
Maria: Sure, Jason. I thought you'd like some more, so here they are.
She placed them on the table.
Jason: Jason Black, Medical Cadet.

Hans deftly intercepted an eclair before the plate reached the table, and speaking around a too-large mouthful said"I'm recently arrived from Vesuvius Outpost 3,it's just a backwater Agri-Collective with nothing but ryewheat fields stretching as far as the eye can see in all directions"."My dad's vice chairman, and I was a slider pilot for the co-op,but I'm sure you all aren't that interested in hearing about that"."I was sort of an 'acre-barber',but I couldn't wait to get away and do something I've been dreaming about for the last 20 years-piloting a heavycruiser"."I know I'm young,25,but I think I have what it takes".<gulp>"This pastry is delicious!"he said, and followed it down with a draught of coffee. "I'm in training for Navigation,or at least I hope I am".Hans paused long enough to take in a gulp of air,and then did a double-take at the sight of the small reptilian creature sitting on the shoulder of one of his new tablemates."What-in-the-world?",he stammered out.

Farlo walked into Tante Maria's bakery. He had been in before but he couldn't resist some Terran Chocolate Fudge Cake. He got the cake and then swung around. There were no seats left around the place. Farlo thought about taking his cake elsewhere but then he saw an empty seat at a table full of people, laughing and joking. He thought about approaching them, but then had second thoughts. He hated social situations. Because he had been so sheltered in the Palace on Lourus he hadn't ever had friends. Even at the Academy he found it hard. However, the thing that worried him the most was that someone would find out he was a Prince. He hated that. He was about to walk off when a Medical Cadet called to him. "Excuse me?" he asked. "But what is that cake?"

The newcomer looked slightly confused for some reason.
Farlo: Were you speaking to me?
Jason: Indeed I was.
Jason stood up and went towards him. He stepped back slightly as he realized that everyone at the table was now watching them.
Farlo: It is Terran Chocolate Fudge Cake.
Jason: Mmmm, quite good in my opinion, when made right. Would you like to join us? We've got just one space left.
Farlo: Well uh, I..
Jason extended his hand.
Jason: Jason Black, Medical Cadet.

Jordan smiled as the newcomers joined them and then she started to feel very small as though she was quite tall for her gender, she was the youngest of them all, and she was a Commander. Draco turned to her and snorted. He told her to go find a certain friend of hers. Jordan made sure she could concentrate on Draco without someone speaking to her.
Jordan: Hush. I'm NOT goin' to go find him. I'll stay here and be social with the cadets.
Draco snorted at her again and she frowned at him. Then she saw the new cadets kind of staring at Draco in wonder and a bit of fright.
Jordan: I am Commader Jordan Mackler. For now, ya can call me Jordan as none of us are on duty yet. This is Draco, my fire lizard.

Though it was not in her nature to do it, the Asian warrior extended her hand to the newcomer, smiling at him. Her cultural background, as well as her father, Master Chor Hing, had taught her to be reserved. But this time, Xin-Ling reached out. It was an effort for her.
"Welcome to Starbase Conqueror. My name Xin Ling Chan, assistant to Security Cheif aboard USS Hepta.

OFF- Hi everyone! Mr. Savali, would you like me to make the Hope homepage an angelfire site? The one you have currently has annoying pop-up ads, and to be honest the background is terrible (cowers in corner). I am fluent in HTML and would happily do it. Also, Mr. Black I noticed the person on your avatar is the officer who showed Scotty to his quaretrs in 'ST:TNG Relics'. How come you chose that?

Who the guy was and/or what he did wasn't why I chose him.
I chose him because he was Human, young, wore a blue uniform, and had light brown hair. This was to fit my character.

"Pleased to meet you Jordan, and may I say what an interesting companion you have",Hans said."I'm sorry to say hi and bye,but the calls gone out to report to the Hepta",he said hastily.Hans was interested in studying the small creature more closely, but instead picked up his dufflebag and quickly departed the bakery.

Xin-Ling watched as Hans left the bakery, his dufflebag over his shoulder. She let out a long sigh; it was time to return to work.
"Well," she said to her remaining table companions, "Duty calling, and I have some things to do before I report. I see each of you aboard Hepta."
She rose gracefully from the table and turned her attention to the proprietors of Tante Mariaβs, thanking them for their wares and service, and made her way out to the Promenade Deck.
