(OOC: 100 posts in just a week! WOW!)
Jason stood at the end of the meeting, ready to stir into action. Lorre moved faster than he did, and was quickly near the door. Jason watched the exchange between Lorre and Danara. After she left, Jason saw that Danara's chest was almost heaving. She was quite aggravated. Jason followed after her. He spoke to Danara as he passed.
Jason: If you take that brace off, it will just be longer before Doctor Hope lets you take that off. And he'll be able to tell if you did.
He sped up as he passed through the door. He caught up with Lorre as she reached the turbolift. They entered the turbolift and headed to Sickbay. When they reached Deck 5, Jason waved her on.
Jason: After you.
She smiled slightly and went through. They went down the corridor and into Sickbay.
Jason: Michael, we need to prepare injections of Tri-ox for an away team of 8. The Captain has asked for us to be injected, but given the duration of tri-ox once it enters the body, we need to prepare a supply for them. We'll need about a weeks worth, to be on the safe side.

"I'll prep the antiUV gels and get the ADH injections ready to go." Melain began to gather 4 medkits and added the gels and hypospray tubes to them.It wouldn'tdue to have the Starfleet personnalget injured and not be able to help themselves, and with her and Jason seperate from the other teams they wouldn't exactly be ableto call for aid.
Melain shut one of the kits and put it aside, she'd added her own scanner to it and claimed it as her own. "I'll bet S'reena's gald she isn't going on this, as a spectator she isn't going to need to pay us a visit."
Melain rememberd that Danara was going to be treated my Michael during her absence. "Dr. Michael, one of my Patients is going to require some Metropane treatment whileI'm gone, I'llleave her medical records with you. I should probably mention that she is a likely case for removing her arm brace, so keep an eye on her."

"Enemies sir?" S'reena asked, clearly surprised, "I hope not sir, but I believe it would be best if we were prepared for anything."
She turned to Melain. "I believe I forgot to mention that I, too, can stand a fair amount of heat. But since an infection not too long ago, my eyes are sensitive to sunlight. I was born in Australia, a rather warm country and I've done my fair share of traveling through that country, including the Great Australian Desert."
She paused for a moment. "I believe Doctor Salek has left a note in my medical record about bright light."
Remembering Yrdis' suggestion, she called for the attention of the cadets just after Tony had ended the meeting. "Cadets, before we beam down we will give you a short training in desert behaviour, as well as a short course in any other requirements for this 'tournament' You will report to the holodeck in four hours." She tapped Johnson on the shoulder. "Mr Johnson, your instructor believes that you will benefit from a little extra navigational training. There is a program available for you and Mr Blayne."

"The extra training would be good, however I need to get the packs ready first. Having said that, it shouldn't take me more then half an hour to ready the equipment." Owen said quite matter of factly. "If we are finished here I will be going to get my shots."
As he said that Owen walked out the door and proceeded to sickbay.

YrDis nodded. "That's fine cadet. I'll see you in holodeck one in 45 minutes. That should give you enough time to get the packs ready." Johnson acknowledged with a nod and walked out of the conference room.
YrDis followed Johnson out and proceeded to the Holodeck. He wanted to review the program for himself to make sure that it would be suitable for Cadet Johnson.

He wasn’t too sure about this assignment. Frek watched the other cadets and the Hanson’s senior crew leave the conference room, heading for sickbay while he contemplated on his sorrows. This could only end badly, he was sure of that. Too many unknown factors. Frek sighed and heaved himself out of the chair and followed the others to sickbay.
Unlike commander S’reena, Frek didn’t mind sickbays and hospitals at all. In his younger years, and sometimes more recently, Frek was a regular in hospitals. Although, he sincerely hoped he wouldn’t end up as a patient in this one. He stepped into sickbay and joined the queue. One by one they received their injections. Once they got their equipment and backpack they would be ready to go.

Melain administerd shots and distributed packs. She explained to each team member how to administer the hyposprays, when to administer them and what to look out for in terms of desert illness. As she was about to send the first team member out the door, she rememberd something else they would all need.
"I need to add something to your pack." she handed him 7 small pills. "Add one of these to your water bottle each morning , It will dissolve and provide you with the electrolytes lost in your sweat." He nodded and took the pills.
"Alright Frek, you're up next." she smiled at her fellow cadet as she prepped the injections

Preparation was going smoothly. The necessary supplies were being readied, and everyone had reported to Sickbay like they were supposed to. Lorre was doing quite well also, making everything go quite smoothly.
Jason: Now, everyone, bear this is mind. Your bodies do not actually need the tri-ox yet, as we will not be reaching our destination for a little while. However, we are giving you these injections now so that you can get used to the effects of having tri-ox in you. If you feel any side-effects, such as faintness, shallow breathing, tingling in your chest, please let me know. There will be a supply of Tri-ox included in your pack, enough for a weeks worth. I will be included a PADD with dosage information.

Frek smiled back at Lorre as she pressed the hypospray to his arm. With a soft hiss the contents were injected into Frek’s system. Dr. Black had warned them against possible side effects of the tri-ox. If there were any, he didn’t notice them. On the other hand it had only been a few seconds since it was administered. Frek accepted the pills handed to him by Lorre. He shrugged his shoulders at the explanation Lorre gave for the use of the pills. Electro-something. Frek didn’t have the slightest idea what it was or what it did. Someone once told him that some pills make you larger and some pills make you small. He wondered if these would do anything at all. Ah, well. If the doctor said to take them, he would. After all, who is he to argue about medical stuff?
Frek lifted the backpack on his shoulders and headed for the transporter room. Some of the instructors and cadets were already there. Waiting to be beamed down get the whole thing started.

YrDis finished reviewing the bridge program for the Hanson in Holodeck One. It seemed to be fine, but he programmed in a series of random events that would occur while the Hanson was in Sector 380.
"Computer, activate Ops Training program." The lined walls dissolved and the bridge of the Hanson appeared. YrDis sat in a chair at the Ops station and waited for Cadet Johnson to arrive.

OOC: I love those desert uniforms.
Waiting until after all the cadets had walked out to head towards sickbay I turned to the Captain.
"I know that this is supposed to be a friendly visit with the Cragorians but I would like to recommend that we give each team a backup communicator and maybe even arm them just in case they are not on the up and up."
<Tony>
Satisfied with the Captain's response I headed out of the briefing room towards Sickbay to receive my shots and survival kit.

Melain had finished packing up the last kit when Lieutenant Gordan arrived. "Welcome Lieutenant, if you could just take a seat on the bio bed I'll make this as qiuck as possible." He sat down, and Melain prepared the hyposprays.
"This injection is Tri-ox, you won't need it yet, but were going to let you get used to the symptoms before hand. If you develope a headache, upset stomech or experiance cold and hot flashes, please report to us at once." Melain gave him the injection.
"This second injection is the hormone ADH, a weeks worth of injections have been included in your pack, and you are to take them once every two days. Same goes for the Tri-ox we have included. This hormone will cause your kidneys to reabsorb more water from the urin, so don't be alarmed if it appears a darker colour then you would expect. You should experiance no other side effects from this injection.: she gave him the second injection.
"That's all for the hypospray, now for me to tell you about your med kit." Melain opend up the kit so he could see what was inside. "Apart from the regulars we have included the tri-ox and ADh injections as while as these electrolyte supplement pills. Place one in your water bottle each morning. You will also need to apply this anti-Uv gel to protect your skin from the harmful rays of the Cragorian sun. I also strongly recammend traveling only at night, and wearing a hat with a brim at all times. Keep your eyes shadded. Drink plenty of water, and rest if you need to."
(O.O.C sounds fun don't it! I'm loving the whole yellow urin thing and the sunscreen, I'd include sunglasses, btu that felt a little too 21st century)

(O.O.C I have just been informed by someone with far more medical experiance then me that high concentrations of ADH are hazardouse to the body. my apologise, I'm only in Grade 11 and my bio teacher neglected to tell us this. So please ignor my posts on it, and pretend I never gave it out I'd try and make a post about recalling it, but most of you had been injected already, that said if any of you experiance any of the following: weakness, lethargy, confusion, convulsions or coma, please report to sick bay ) ADH Injections are being recalled, you never got these!

no worries I;ll post a fix for you. Please don't disregard them....tis an easy fix!
ic:
Michael listened to Melain explaining that there were extra rations of ADH in the packs of the people who were going to beam down. "Ms Lorre, a moment please," Michael called, when she was done injecting Gordon with tri-ox.
The medical cadet turned and looked at the gynaecologist questioningly.
"Are you aware of the consequences of long term injections of ADH?" Michael asked. By her puzzled look, Michael knew she hadn't. Quietly, he explained them to her. "There is no harm done," he said softly, "we will recall their supplies of ADH, and suggest instead that there will be supplies of water available along the way."

Melain blushed a Deep red. "Of course! I missed that class in med school. I got notes on it, but who has time to read those when they've got a final project due the next day." she quickly sent out a message to the crew. "It's a good thing your here Doctor and it's a good thing I'm being put through training before being placed on a ship." she chidded herslef inside for making such a mistake, and realised that as a nurse on earth, she had never been expected to make treatment choices, only administer them."

Sitting through the injections I found myself enjoying the bedside manner of Cadet Melain.
"So Cadet, may I ask how you pronounce your first name? Is the E silent as in Lor, or is it like Lori?"
<Lorre>
Having finished receiving the injection and the rundown of my medical supply kit I thanked Dr. Black, Cadet Melain, and the rest of the medical staff for their efficient work and headed back to my office to make sure all of my Navigations Dept. duties were taken care of prior to arrival.
Entering my office I got a drink from the replicator and sat down at my desk with a PADD and began reading over the newest members of my department and began assigning them mentors to get them familiar with the operation of the ship and their duties within the Navigations department.
~This would be a good exercise for my cadet. See how he would assign them.~
Tapping my combadge.
"Cadet Thelev, this is Lt. Rhymer. Please meet me in my office at your convenience."
<Thelev>
Minutes later a chime rang.
"Enter" I said aloud looking up to see a rather nervous looking cadet Thelev walking into the room.
"Ah Mr. Thelev, thanks for coming so quickly. Would you like anything to drink?"
Receiving a negative reply I turned my attention to the reason that I called him in.
"Well I am sure that you are wondering why I called you in. Let me first say that I have been very impressed by your performance thus far. The reason that I called you is that I have a little project for you, something that you will get infinitely familiar with as your career progresses."
Handing him the PADD.
"I would like you to to go through this departmental personnel listing and set a mentor for and a study routine for each of the newly arrived unqualified personnel. There is no rush on this just try to get it down before we arrive at Jesin, and let me know if you have questions."
"Yes Sir" came the crisp reply as Thelev and I both stood and headed for the holodeck for the desert survival training upgrade.

S'reena was a little envious of the instructors that did get to participate in the competition. However, she knew that they would be able to follow the progress of the teams on the main viewscreen.
Looking up, she saw Johnson and Blayne leave the bridge for the holodeck. "I'm going with them," she told Marcell, and in passing she tapped Thelev on the shoulder. "If you wish, you may participate also. Mr Johnson is going to undertake some extra navigational training."
Just then Gordon walked up to the operations cadet and informed him of a desert survival training on another holodeck.
She walked on and stepped into the turbolift car, which delivered her neatly to the deck containing the holodecks. She was just in time to see Instructor and Cadet enter a particular holodeck and sprinted after them.
"Is it alright if I tag along?" she asked, and waited patiently for a response.

Owen was just entering the holodeck when Commander S'reena approached. "Is it alright if I tag along?" she asked.
"Sure, I don't see why not ma'am." Owen replied. "However, I have been asked to complete some Ops training."
<S'reena>
As Owen continued in Commander Blayne spoke. "Alright Cadet Johnson, you have three tasks. You must choose the order in which you complete them. For task one there is a dispute between Stellar Cartography and Particle Physics department for use of lateral sensors to study Pulsar A732 and dark matter cluster in the Jenna nebula, respectively. In task two you are to run a scan on and retrieve information for Andorian and Orion freighters that are picked up on long range sensors. The Orion freighter is not registered and refuses to answer hails. And for task three, long range sensors pick up unknown gravitic anomaly orbiting in unexplored planetary system J23. You may proceed."
The program started and Owen was barraged by all three problems. ~I hope this doesn't happen in real life too often. Still, I guess it's best to prepare for the worst case scenario.~
Owen started to hail the freighters. "Captain, there are two freighters on long range sensors. The Orion freighter isn't registered and refuses to respond to hails, however the Andorian freighter is responding with visual, putting them on screen." As he did this he scanned the Orion freighter.
While he was running the scan, two messages appeared on his console at the same time. One was from Stellar Cartography, the other from the Particle Physics department and they both wanted to use the lateral sensors. Starting to get overwhelmed, Owen sent both departments a message asking when the anomalies would be out of range.
Yet still the problems arose, this time long range sensors picked up a gravitic anomaly orbiting in system J23. As the sensors were still running scans on the freighter Owen saved the coordinates to run a scan later. The console beeped signalling that the scan on the freighter was complete.
~Whoa, that's no ordinary freighter.~
"Captain, the Orion freighter is armed beyond regulation and they appear to be transporting weaponry." he reported. "Sending data to you and tactical."
Now that long range sensors were free he initiated a scan on the gravitic anomaly.
OFF: I need to start writing more posts like this.

YrDis watched quietly as Cadet Johnson handled the problems that were being thrown at him in rapid succession. The Cadet was doing a fine job of threat assessment and delegation. Passing communication from the Andorian freighter off to the captain and the Orion freighter to Tactical was a nice touch that allowed Johnson to focus on other the problems. Stellar Cartography and the Particle Physics department sent up the available viewing times of their research, and it turned out that Cartography had more than an hour longer with their subject than the Physics department did. Johnson quickly put together a response. <Johnson> In the meantime, the Orion freighter had continued to refuse hails, so S'Reena stepped in and said... <Commander Hope> OOC: You and the rest of the cadets are doing a fine job of posting. Keep it up.

The first thing Frek noticed as the holodeck doors open was the bright yellow sand, and the blinding sun reflecting on it. “This will give you some idea for what’s waiting for you on the planet,” Gordon told him. The instructor stepped into the holodeck and started to walk. Frek readjusted his backpack and followed reluctantly. He felt like his antennae’s would wither and blister in this immense heat. He was quite sure he wasn’t made for these sorts of things. He hoped they would soon go to the planet surface. The real thing would probably be bad enough, without having to suffer up in front.
He tried to set his mind on other things, trudging after Gordon. He could almost visualize the soft gentle breeze of a Risan beach. The taste of a nice chilled cocktail. He should really try to convince Starfleet academy to do there future training sessions there.

S'reena nodded approvingly at Blayne; the cadet was indeed doing a good job at trying to solve the problems thrown at him. Suddenly she was being addressed, even if she had only intended to being here as a supervisor.
"Fire a warning shot across their bow, cadet," S'reena ordered, "hopefully that will get their attention. Address the Andorians and ask then to give you a report on their situation."
She sat down in the captain's chair, feeling that it wasn't exactly the proper place to sit down right now. She got up, tugged down her tunic in a reflex, and gestured to Blayne. "Mr Blayne, would you care to sit in the captain's chair? I'll go sit at the science station instead."
She gazed at the cadet. "You're doing well Mr Johnson, I have no doubt you can solve this problem you are facing."
<let's not let this run too long....I have no doubt that Captain wants us to beam down somewhere halfway through this week>

"Mr Blayne, would you care to sit in the captain's chair? I'll go sit at the science station instead." Commander Hope didn't give YrDis an option, as she turned and walked over to the Science station without waiting for a reply. Supressing a rueful grin, the Counsellor walked over and sat down in the command chair.
"Mr. Johnson, tactical display on the main viewscreen please." There was slight pause as the cadet figured out the correct sequence of commands to enter, and the display came up on the main viewer, overlaying the positions of the Hanson and Orion freighter. YrDis was thinking about what he had read regarding Orions. Piracy and illegal transactions were quite common, but all Orions would generally work together, knowing that in the long run, they would profit. A practical people, and YrDis would have to appeal that practicality to resolve this problem.
In the meantime, the Orion freighter had come to a halt after the warning shot and was waiting, shields up. "Tactical analysis of the freighter, Mr. Johnson." YrDis was hoping that a description of the weaponry, shields and sensor systems of the freighter would give him some idea about how to proceed.
