“Looks like you won't have to wait until he's sleeping,” Crystal told Cadet Sol, as Admiral Drew left the bridge in her hands. Crystal was happy to see that her cadet was willing to joke with her, since otherwise the mission could have been a very long one. Crystal tended to use humor to relieve stress, and not just that of the cadets she taught.
Crystal glanced around the bridge to confirm that there wasn't anything she had to deal with the point, and so she stayed near the navigations console by Cadet Sol. The ship was now smoothly gliding through space, so there was little for the cadet to do that the computer couldn't do.
“Now would probably be the time when we would go to sickbay normally,” Crystal said, “But since I'm in command of the bridge I don't want to just leave.” She smiled softly. “I'd send you down on your own, but I'm kind of due for a check-up myself.” And overdue. Though Crystal told herself that was just because, with getting a new medical officer, things had been a little up in the air. “So we'll stop by at some point later.”
Crystal was going to say something else when the turbolift doors opened, to show a flustered cadet, dressed in blue—so either science or medical or counseling. “Hello,” Crystal greeted the younger woman, properly taking command of the situation on the bridge. “What can I do for you?”
The cadet explained that she was looking for Commander Manto. “I'm fairly certain she went to sickbay,” Crystal said. Konal and her cadet hadn't left that long ago, so they'd probably still be there. “Welcome to the Hanson,” Crystal said.
<Tag Megan>
The cadet left to find Commander Manto, leaving the bridge kind of deserted again. Crystal liked it best when it was like this. She glanced around the bridge, keeping her eyes carefully off of the main viewscreen. Once she was sure that it was orderly, she glanced back at her cadet with a slight smile. “So, what made you join Starfleet?” she asked.

The turbolift came to a halt and opened much faster than the slower turbolifts at the Academy, and as a result, when the doors opened Megan was momentarily startled, but she recovered quickly and walked onto the bridge. Glancing around, she immediately took in the full but very quiet bridge and the Commander standing next to the helm. “Hello. What can I do for you?” the Commander asked.
Squaring her shoulders, Megan replied, “I’m looking for the Chief Science Officer, Commander. I’ve been assigned here as a Science Cadet.” Megan wished she knew the name of her instructor. In the message to report to a ship leaving in a few minutes and the subsequent mad dash to make it, Megan hadn’t been able to receive her orders containing instructor and assigned quarters like most Cadets.
“I'm fairly certain she went to sickbay,” the Commander replied before adding “Welcome to the Hanson.”
“Thank you, Commander. It’s good to be here. I should go and report to my instructor now.” Smiling slightly and nodding politely, Megan turned back to the turbolift and entered immediately, as the turbolift had not yet left Deck 1. The doors closed behind her, and Megan’s shoulders slumped in resignation.
“Sickbay.” she said resignedly. Of all the places her instructor could be, she had to be in sickbay, the last place on the ship, or the universe, that Megan wanted to be. Megan had been to more doctors than she could possibly count since she was born as a result of her two genetic disorders. She’d been diagnosed before she was born and went into surgery several weeks after her birth.
Since then, she’d gone through nearly a dozen surgeries and had been monitored very closely her entire life. As a result, she hated anything to do with medicine where she was the patient, hospitals, sickbays, nurses, doctors, scans, tests, surgeries...all of it. Like with anyone, there were doctors she liked and doctors she didn’t, but it was the whole patient thing that Megan hated.
As the doors opened, Megan squared her shoulders again and exited the turbolift. She was just going to have to suck it up and act her way through yet another exam. At least going through everything she had with her health had taught her one thing: how to pretend she was fine when she was anything but fine. In most cases, Megan could be feeling just about anything but appear absolutely calm.
After several turns, Megan hesitated at the door suppressing the urge to run as fast as she possibly could and placing a perfectly calm, cool, collected mask firmly on her face before entering sickbay. She entered sickbay to find chaos, as alarms were going off and nurses were running. In the very middle of sickbay, a Klingon with a very red face appeared to have stopped breathing.

She was rather relieved that Doctor Salek had ignored her presence for a few reasons. One, she hated being in sickbay. It gave her the creeps. She understood its need, but honestly, it was not her favorite place. Two, it gave the Cadet some independence. He would be dealing with these doctor types throughout all of his career in Starfleet. Might as well hit the ground running.
Commander Daya walked in, and Salek broke conversation with Mr. D'ville to speak with the officer.
An incoming communique from Commander Hope came in.
=/\= I think you've forgotten someone when we boarded =/\=
Commander Manto was a bit confused, and admitted it to her Executive Officer.
=/\= Does a Ms. Garrett... Megan Garrett ring a bell? =/\=
She acknowledged, embarrassed, and asked if Commander Hope would send her to sickbay. She ended the communique.
Konal knew about Cadet Garrett, it was written on her padd. With the preceding events, however - the divulging of the mission going to Outpost 1.2.9, and seeing the clear stature of her half-Klingon cadet, she had forgotten to look for the Cadet, who had arrived just late enough to miss the welcome wagon of Commander Hope and Crystal. After that, it was Konal's responsibility, and she had forgotten. No doubt Commander Hope would be speaking to Admiral Drew about this, and that would give Admiral Drew the excuse he needed to ask if Konal had more knowledge of the Outpost.
Her imagination gained momentum down the slippery slope of possibilities when Cadet D'ville broke her train of thought, chewing his celery extra loud. The smart-mouthed Cadet was rubbing in his foresight. Konal took it in stride, however. It was a two way road. If she was willing to dish it out, she would have to take it. She ignored the Cadet's attempt to get a rise of the older Cardassian. It was an ill-attempt, and she made sure he didn't get much joy out of it.
"Did Doctor Salek finish with you yet?" She said loud enough for the Doctor to hear. It didn't matter. She had to remain in sickbay to wait for Cadet Garrett, who needed to check in as well. In the meantime, she decided to quiz Ashley.
"How are you with Astrometrics?" This was usually every science officer's favorite area of study. It was Konal's least favorite. She was fully knowledgeable, and more-so than the average officer, but she didn't enjoy it as much as others. She was still in search of someone else that was similar.
<D'ville>
"My passion is in Botany." The thought of the botany outpost they were traveling to briefly surfaced, but she moved on before the betazoid half of the Cadet could pick up her uneasiness. She rubbed her neck ridges in angst, as was her tell in such a situation. "Have you ever seen Cardassian orchids? They are beautiful!"
<D'ville>
"After astrometrics, I'll show you the science labs. You've worked in simulated ones on Earth, I presume, but it's a bit different on a Starship. Every ship has its quirks you know."
Before Cadet D'ville could respond, he started choking. Konal, panicking, pounded an emergency button, which caused everyone to shift into a different gear, trying to figure out where the emergency was. It was a bit of an overreaction, on the Cardassian's part. Any other day she would have reacted calm, cool, and collectively. This mission, however, had her on pins and needles. She added this to a list of missteps she had been making lately when a simple fisted tap on the back of the Cadet caused the celery stalk to shoot out. Everyone went back to work as if nothing had happened, huffing and puffing about appropriate usage of the emergency buttons.
a young woman walked into the room. The tall, muscular Cadet looked intent on starting the mission. Konal admired this. She fancied that she had the same look unto herself... the serious look, not the physical look.
The officer and cadet welcomed the new Cadet. Ashley had regained his composure, and offered some celery. "Don't let him give you any of that stuff." Konal didn't know what Earth celery tasted like, and she didn't need two cadets choking. It was simply the first random item she came across last mission, and thought she would use it again this mission. Megan looked confused.
"Take a seat. The doctor will be with you in a moment." The 'new' cadet sat down, in the biobed next to Ashley. The two started in on conversation, as Konal desperately tried to get the attention of Dr. Salek, without rudely interrupting.
<Cadets, feel free to converse. Feel free to take us to Astrometrics after Salek releases us.>

'Astrometrics' he grinned, the only place he could find peace 'The room that make you think you are very small and shows exactly who you are in this universe, plus at the same time you think you can fly between the star. Have you Commander turned the gravity off when moving from star to star.
"My passion is in Botany." The thought of the botany outpost they were traveling to briefly surfaced, but she moved on before the betazoid half of the Cadet could pick up her uneasiness. 'My is subspace fields and warp theory, Commander. No I not see any. But on Earth there a small purple flowering shrub, that look like a carpet. Its called heather.'

OCC: this is anaphylactic shock.

He only just arrived and all of a sudden the entire ship was coming down to sickbay for a checkup without any complaints. It was... an unusual situation, Salek thought. Salek went over to give Cmdr. Gonto a checkup when someone triggered an emergency button which resulted in the entire sickbay to go crazy.
=/\=Computer, turn of the emergency alarm=/\=
As the alarm was turned of, Salek noticed what all the commotion was about, apparently cadet Dville was suffocating. He rushed over to his side and pulled out his tricoder. The man's histamine levels were off the chart, he was apparently having an allergic reaction to the celery he was trying to eat and at that he appeared to be very, very allergic to it.
"900 milligrams of Aminophylline now"; Salek yelled over to the nurse who rushed over to the medicine cabinet and filled up the hyposprey with the compound which she then gave Salek
Salek put the hyposprey to the man's neck and administered the contents. Within moments the bronchospasm was subsiding and the Klingon cadet was able to breath again, however with slow and shallow breaths.
"Relax cadet just try to keep breathing and lie down on the bed", Salek directed the cadet as he helped him lie on his back
As the cadet was lying on the biobed, Salek activated in and began to monitor the histamine level in his bloodstream. It was still rather high and would take some time to normalize, but at least the man could breathe again.
"Cadet Dville, you are going to have to remain here for a few hours until your histamine levels normalize, and if i were you i would keep away from celery in the future", Salek said without a hint of any emotion
<Tag Dville>
After Cadet Dville was stabilized, Salek went back to Commander Daya who was waiting to get his checkup. After the usual tricoder scan, Salek instructed him to lie down on his back for a more thorough scan. After a few moments the biobed was once more open and Daya could sit up again.
"Well other than a slight vitamin deficiency you are in perfect health Commander.", Salek told him
"Good"; Daya replied
"I suggest you try eating some fresh fruits when we get back to the Starbase but in the meantime, you can replicate this vitamin drink", Salek said as he pulled out a pad and typed in the name of the drink for Daya
"It has all the necessary vitamins you need and it does not taste bad... so you have no reason to avoid it", Salek said
"You're free to go", Salek told Daya and went over to the next patient, a new cadet whose name was yet unknown to him
"Cadet....", Salek questioned as he approached the young human female
"Garrett, sir", she replied to him, "Megan Garrett"
"Ah yes, i was reviewing your medical record earlier cadet...", Salek said as he pulled out a tricoder
"It appears your implants are functioning within their specified parameters", he said referring to her support implants that were acting as a substitute for her autonomic nervous system
"Lie down on the bio bed so that i can run a more detailed analysis"; he instructed her
Deciding there is no use in complaining at this time, Megan did as she was instructed and lied down on the bio bed which closed around her several moments later. Salek typed a few keys and the scanning began. It did not take long as he knew exactly what he was looking at and a few moments later the bio bed opened up allowing the cadet to sit up again.
"You appear to be within your health specifications cadet.", Salek said, "However i do recommend that you avoid and unnecessary stress", Salek said
<Tag Garrett>
As Salek was done examining all the cadet's that reported in for a checkup and the voluntary exam of Commander Daya he went over to Commander Manto.
"Seeing you are already here, Commander, no use postponing your exam either"; Salek said as he pulled out a tricoder and began scanning the Science officer.
"Everything appears to be normal from what I can see Commander"; Salek said, "If you will"; Salek motioned to the bio bed near which Manto was standing. After a few complaints the science instructor lied down on the bed and allowed Salek to take a more detailed scan of her. After a few moments the bio bed opened up again and enabled Konal to sit up.
"For a Cardassian of your age you are in excellent health Commander"; Salek said to Manto as she sat up on the bed

Kalen pondered crystals recent question. Why exactly did he join starfleet? Did he even know for sure himself?
Kalen looked at crystal and replied. "You know ive never really thought about it much. I just knew someday i would join. I like helping people but my true passion is flying and starfleet gives me the option to do both. What about you Ma'am?"

After her chat with the Vulcan CMO, S'reena returned to the bridge and to an overly familiar scene. Drew sat in the centre chair, calmly reading up on reports that various crewmembers had supplied to him, while around him, instructors were busily explaining the workins of their consoles to the most eager cadets.
Wiping a stray lock of hair from her face and tucking it behind her pointed ear, she took the opportunity to steal another look around the bridge. Two key instructors a few cadets were missing. "Where are commanders Daya and Manto?" she enquired, as she sank down in her seat beside Drew.
"Sickbay," Drew answered without looking up from his work, "periodic medical check-ups."
"I just left sickbay, I would've seen them," S'reena answered in surprise. Then again, they could've just entered when she boarded a different turbolift. Checking her cadet information, she saw a late arrival highlighted on her padd. "Ah, Cadet Megan Garrett, science," she announced to her CO, "seems Konal forgot about her, and she didn't list on my PADD an hour ago." She tapped her combadge and informed Konal to stay put in sickbay as a cadet was coming her way.
"When you're done in sickbay, remind the cadet to report in to Admiral Drew as per regulations?" she requested of her Cardassian collegue.

"Now," Lucy said, returning to their previous topic, "about Lash. Dilithium produces a byproduct called Illium-629. Illium can cause hallucinations in some people. Have you read anything about it?"
Westgate laughed at her parody of his dialect. "Cain't say that I have. Dilithium's a long way from my particklar specialty, you know.
"Well, there was an article in the Academy Counseling newsletter. The phenomena is rare but it does happen. I think we need to look into it further."
"Ilium-629. Hallucinogenic, you say? I'm a-wonderin' what form it comes in? Gideon Lash, a former smuggler, and Ilium-629, a potent hallucinogenic. Money there, I'm a-thinkin.' Black market, drug trade. But what's all that got to do with sabotage? Reckon we oughta talk to the Commander now. You a-thinkin' the same?"
<Grey>
Westgate tapped his comm badge. "Commander Westgate to Commander Manto. Might we have a quick word?"
<Manto>
"We'll be a-settin' in the office. Got some interesting stuff to discuss with ye, if'n ye don't mind none."
<Manto>
"Well, thank ye, Ma'am. See you in a bit, you know."
Westgate closed the link, and then looked at Cadet Grey. "Might be a right interestin' chat we'll be a-havin' with that woman. Some mighty interestin' goin's-on here. Mighty interestin'!

The commander and cadet welcomed Megan, once they noticed her arrival after all the activity, and the cadet, who appeared to be fine now, offered her some celery. "Don't let him give you any of that stuff." the Commander warned.
Megan agreed. Celery wasn’t exactly a favorite food, and the last thing she wanted was to draw attention to herself by choking in the middle of sickbay. Although she wondered what it was doing here in sickbay in the first place. "Take a seat. The doctor will be with you in a moment." the Commander added.
Glancing around at the crowded sickbay, Megan decided to stick near the other cadet. At least then maybe his presence would distract from hers. Smiling politely at him, Megan placed her bag next to the wall near the biobed and boosted herself up onto the inside portion of the biobed. Smiling back, the cadet said, “It’s not so bad actually.”
Megan assumed he was referring to the celery and replied, “No, it’s not, but it’s not my favorite.” As the Commander moved off towards the doctor to get his attention, the cadet suddenly stopped breathing again and his eyes grew wide. Assuming that pressing the emergency button was standard procedure in such an event, since it is what her instructor had done, Megan jumped down and hit the button for the second time in as many minutes.
Sickbay was once again thrown into chaos, but the alarm stopped shortly after it had begun. The doctor, a Vulcan and perfectly calm, arrived at the biobed with a tricorder. Hoping to remain inconspicuous, Megan backed up slightly. No need to draw attention to her presence if unnecessarily. Scanning the cadet, the doctor yelled, "900 milligrams of Aminophylline, now" to the nurse rushed over to the medicine cabinet, filled a hypospray with the compound, and handed it to the doctor, who injected the cadet with it. Within moments, he began to breath again, slow and shallow, but still breathing at least.
"Relax cadet just try to keep breathing and lie down on the bed", the doctor directed the cadet, as he helped him lie on his back. After running a few scans the doctor calmly said, "Cadet Dville, you are going to have to remain here for a few hours until your histamine levels normalize, and if I were you, I would stay away from celery in the future."
Nodding mutely, Cadet Dville continued to try and regain his breath. The emergency averted, Megan glanced over at the Commander, who at the same moment glanced over at her, both still a little stunned by the flurry of activity that occurred in less than a minute. “Well that doesn’t happen often.” the Commander said, more to herself than to Megan, before adding, “The doctor should be over to run your check up in a moment.”
Nodding, Megan glanced at Cadet Dville, who appeared to be breathing much easier. “How are you feeling?” Megan asked.
<Tag D'Ville>
Smiling, Megan replied "Cadet Megan Garrett and I am another science cadet. It's nice to meet you."
Before Ashley could respond, the doctor returned. This time, his focus was directed at her, and Megan forced herself to at least appear calm. "Cadet....?" he questioned, obviously looking for her name.
"Garret, sir, Cadet Megan Garrett." she replied.
"Ah yes, I was reviewing your medical record earlier Cadet." he said as he pulled out his tricorder and ran a scan. A few moments later, he said, "It appears your implants are functioning within their specified parameters. Lie down on the bio bed, so that I can run a more detailed analysis."
Deciding there was no use in complaining, Megan did as she was instructed and lay down on the bio bed, which closed around her several moments later. “There’s always a more detailed scan…” she thought glumly as the doctor typed a few keys and the scanning began. It didn’t take long, and a few moments later the bio bed opened, allowing Megan to sit up again, which she did gladly.
"You appear to be within your health specifications, Cadet." the doctor said, "However, I do recommend that you avoid any unnecessary stress."
Relieved, Megan nodded and replied, “Thank you, doctor.” before gladly jumping down from the bio bed and walking over to the Commander again.
“Commander, I do believe I should check in with the Captain, now. Permission to leave?” Megan asked.
Nodding, the Commander replied, “Granted. He should be on the bridge.”
“Thank you, Commander.” Megan replied before retrieving her bag from the floor and willingly leaving sickbay.
Letting out the air she didn’t realize she’d been holding Megan walked back to the turbolift to report to the Captain. The turbolift arrived moments after she pressed the call button, and Megan entered, turned, and ordered, “Deck 1, Bridge.”
Shifting her bag again, and wishing she knew where her quarters were so she could drop it off, Megan reminded herself that the doors opened more quickly than she was accustomed to and prepared herself to appear calm and confident.
The doors opened, quickly as expected, and Megan once again stepped onto the bridge and took in the scene. It looked very much as it had earlier, with the notable exceptions of the Captain and XO in their respective chairs.
Walking over the Captain’s chair and standing at attention, Megan said, “Cadet Megan Garret, science, reporting for duty as ordered, Sir.”
OCC: Hopefully this helped tie everything together. If not, please feel free to fix it.

Nodding, Megan glanced at Ashley, who appeared to be breathing much easier. “How are you feeling?” Megan asked.
'Better thank you, I guess thats a note in my medical records.' Ashley smiled 'First time I eat that plant, and the first I had an reaction to any food stuff too.'
He looked at Megan 'I guess your a fellow science cadet too. Ashley D'Ville of the Betaziod house D'Ville of the 7th house of Rixx.'

Crystal glanced at Cadet Sol. That was the problem with asking questions, she shouldn't ask them if she wasn't willing to answer them herself. Which maybe, had she thought about it ahead of time, she wouldn't have asked. But what had been done was done, and now she had to answer her own question.
“I wanted to be Navigation because I already knew how to do it, and I knew that I loved it. But I joined Starfleet partly because I wasn't sure what else I could do, and partly because there was some pressure from some people I know.” Crystal didn't explain her relationship with the Admiral and the Ambassador, because she wasn't sure how she could. After all, they were kind of her adoptive parents, but in a lot of ways they weren't. Especially in that she hadn't met them until she was 22 and she didn't want to be adopted by them. But she had mostly joined Starfleet because of them.
“Ultimately, though, I think I joined Starfleet because I couldn't see myself doing anything else. Because sometimes it seems so clear that this,” Crystal gestured around her, “Is where I belong.” She shrugged. “Somehow I can't see myself staying planet-bound.” As to why she was an instructor, she found it somewhat stabilizing. There were constant crews of cadets that were always changing, and they kept things busy enough that there wasn't much time for silent reflection. Plus, Crystal kind of liked meeting new people.
Commander Hope and Admiral Drew had both returned to the bridge, which relaxed Crystal a lot. It meant she had less to worry about. Cadet Sol was still piloting, and piloting well. “So, do you have any prior piloting during a fight experience?” Crystal asked. That was pretty much all she had had in her favor for joining Starfleet. “Because the way our missions work, we'll probably end up in at least a minor battle before your graduation.” Crystal said the words lightly, but she watched for Kalen's reaction. Having to pilot the ship during a fight was one of the most stressful things that could happen to a Navigations Officer, and Crystal wanted to know what her cadet's past experience was.

It always seemed like a dog and pony show, as 20th century humans would call it, when Konal had more than one Cadet. The alarms were enough to make the older Cardassian go bonkers, while the Cadets seemed to think that this was standard procedure.
As she was about to give the two the finer points of sickbay etiquette, a chirp on her communication device distracted her.
=/\= Ah, yes, Commander Westgate. I can join you, just give me a few minutes.=/\= She motioned for T'lal, the Lieutenant Science Officer that was about to get an unexpected surprise.
"I have a favor to ask of you," the chief science officer asked the Lieutenant. "From our conversations on the Starbase, I know you mentioned you were rather interested in becoming an instructor." the male Vulcan nodded, guessing what was to come next. "Well, I need to run up to the counseling office, and I was hoping you could watch over the Cadets... perhaps take them to Astrometrics for me... until I return?"
The eager Vulcan saw his chance to prove to Konal his abilities to instruct, and eagerly agreed. Well, as eager as a Vulcan could appear, that is.
Konal explained the situation to D'ville. "When Ms. Garrett returns, you'll have to inform her of the subtle change in her command structure. I shouldn't be too long."
<D'ville>
With that, Konal scurried out of sickbay, and to the counseling office.
Cadet Grey's voice came from the office. "Come in!" The young girl's voice was pleasant; not the deeper mature voice that the Cardassian had.
Nervous she stepped forward so the door would recognize her intent. "I'm here. Where should we begin?" She rubbed her neck ridges as she searched for a non-threatening place to sit in the room. Preferably by the door, in case the conversation became unpleasant. With two Cadets, potentially running a muck with T'lal in charge, that excuse would easily gain her reprieve from interrogation, if she chose. The topic of conversation was something she was subconsciously trying to get off her chest for some time now, however, and the likelihood of her bolting was minimal.
<Westgate / Grey>
T'lal checked the Cadet's bio-stats matter of factly, having almost no bedside manner to him at all. He wasn't a doctor, he was a science officer. While he understood the readings, he didn't possess any sort of finesse.
"Mr. D'ville, it appears your bio-systems are running within normal parameters. I suggest we continue the training." He talked to Doctor Salek, who acknowledged the Cadet's quick recovery. "Your unique physiology seems to have played a good part in your healing, young man." T'lal said, almost condescendingly. "I advise you to not eat any more Earth greens while aboard. The replicators will be programmed to deny you any of these items, I'll make sure of that when I get back to my station. For now, we must move to Astrometrics."
<D'ville>
The two headed out of sickbay. There would be no commotion, T'lal thought, when he was in charge.
In the counseling office, Konal hoped that everything was going alright with her Cadets. T'lal had the capability to teach, but his personality was not pleasant, as most Vulcans weren't focused on the joy of learning, only the factual component. They would only have to put up with him for a short while. It wouldn't be too bad, she decided, and continued answering the line of questioning from the counselors.

Konal explained the situation to D'ville. "When Ms. Garrett returns, you'll have to inform her of the subtle change in her command structure. I shouldn't be too long."
'Yes Commander, and dont worry I am a little hard to kill on a simple cadet outing. If I can survive the Klingon Homeworld this is be a walk in the sea.'
'My mother as alot to answer for with my quick healing, bout there is a Klingon saying too You cant keep and Bad Klingon down'
Ashley smile faintly we was working with a Vulcan again he felt a peace flow over and through him.
'Lead the way then Sir'

Drew was surprised to find the bridge so empty when he returned; even more so when he learned that so many had gone to sickbay. He could not remember the last time that the medical bay was so popular.
“Let’s hope they all get a clean bill of health,” he said as he relieved Crystal and resumed command of the bridge; “we only just got a full crew again.”
At that moment S’reena returned to the bridge, like Drew she seemed to be surprised at the lack of officers on the bridge.
“Sickbay,” Drew explained as he settled into his chair.
Just as S’reena took her chair, the turbolift door opened once again, this time admitting a young cadet to the bridge. Wearing a teal uniform the cadet made her way down to the command level and stood to attention infront of Drew.
“Cadet Megan Garret, science, reporting for duty as ordered, Sir,” she said in a clear voice.
“Welcome aboard Cadet,” Drew said, smiling, “please at ease, have you had opportunity yet to meet your instructor?”
Megan replied that she had, and explained how she had received the call to report to the bridge.
“Very good,” Drew replied, “you may return to your duties cadet.”
As Megan left the bridge, Drew returned to reading one of the various reports he had to get through when Jason called for his attention
“Admiral, we are receiving a distress call,” the Ops Instructor said, as all heads turned to him, “it is from the Outpost, there has been an explosion.”
Instantly the bridge came alive, as both Drew and S’reena began barking out orders.
“Helm, increase speed to maximum,” Drew ordered.
“Red alert,” S’reena called out, “sickbay and transporter rooms stand by.”
“Jason, inform the Outpost that we have received their distress call and are en route,” Drew said, turning to face the Ops console, “see if you and Cadet Black can get a status report from the Outpost, what was the nature of the explosion? Any idea on casualties?

"Come in! Come in!" Westgate thundered as the Cardassian Science Officer made her appearance. "Set yourself down. Get comfy. Got a couple questions fer ye, clear things right up. Now, I don't want to pry, you know, but it's knowledge enough ye got a connnection with this here outpost, though it's been some time and all, an' I reckon things mighta changed some since then."
Manto looked seriously uncomfortable, and Westgate knew he'd have to tread lightly here. He realized she needed to talk, sure enough, but it had to be at her pace and in a situation in which she felt most comfortable. He looked at his list of names he wanted to ask her about.
"This Shraka feller, you know him? Says here he's up in the chain o' command there, you know. Superintendent or suchlike. An' there's another feller, Gideon Lash, right up along in there with him. Just wanted to see if'n you heard o' these." Westgate had decided not to tell her what he knew of Lash, just to preserve her natural reaction. He also looked at Grey in a way that would tell her not to reveal anything they had discussed.
<Manto>
"Well, well. Must've been a right interesting time you had there, I'm a-thinkin'. Science outpost, was it? And then along come that dilithium. Hehee, well it didn't come along, 'xactly, was already there, you know. And....let's see," he said, checking his list again, "that was about the time ol' Lash showed his face. Had to been right hard to give it up and all. Your researches, that is.
<Manto>
"I reckon, Commander, you've been through a lot with this here outpost. A-tweakin' o' your feelin's and all, little pride here, little sorrow there. Anger too, I reckon. A-wantin' to talk about it, not wantin' to talk. Has to be hard on ye, an' I don't wanna make no more trouble fer ye, want ye to feel right, you know. I'm glad we're a-talkin' now, don't you know. An' anytime it's right fer you, I'm a-listenin'.
<Manto, Grey>
"I 'preciate ye droppin' by, Commander. I'd recommend another time or two, you know, just so's we can get to know one another."

Hearing the red alert sirens Alex got out of his chair and left his quarters. "I wonder what happened" he thought and went toward the turbolift, once in it he voiced his command "deck 11". 14 sec. later he steeped out of the turbolift and headed for Lucy. "awaiting orders ma'am"
"i need you to give the warp engine a check-up and prepare for high-warp flight, I also want you to perform some maintenance on our shields, in communication with our tactical officer, Commander Daya. contact him over communications and ask him to run a few diagnostics" said Lucy
as soon as Alex got his orders he went to the console and ran a diagnostic, after finding his results he went back to Lucy and reported " we can hold warp 7.5 for 15 hrs and 23 min." and then Alex rushed back to the console, pressed his com badge, and said "cadet Alex to commander Daya"
<Daya>
Lucy wants you to run a diagnostic on the Shields, I'll be monitoring it from here and if anythings wrong I'll fix it."

Kalen was just about to tell crystal all about his privious life before starfleet. About how he was raised on a freighter with his father, mother and brother and how he had lived aboard for 14 years until he was attacked by Klingons. The freighter was badly damaged and all aboard were killed except Kalen. He would have been killed too had it not been for a wandering pirate ship that had been in the are. Kalen isnt sure what made that captain decide to help but for some reason he chose to fight the Klingon bird of prey off and rescue Kalen. The captain of the pirate ship raised Kalen like he was his own son and for the next 5 years Kalen piloted his ship for him. He had seen many battles and when he finally turned 19 Kalen had left the ship to follow his dream of joining starfleet. Kalen was going to share all of this with crystal but now there were more important things to do so maybe he would share it later or maybe it was just best to keep that part of his past to himself.
"Aye Aye Captain. Increasing speed," Kalen replied as he increased the speed on the vessel to its maximum. "But we wont be able to maintain this speed for too long."

"Ilium-629. Hallucinogenic, you say?," Dr. Westgate commented, "I'm a-wonderin' what form it comes in? Gideon Lash, a former smuggler, and Ilium-629, a potent hallucinogenic. Money there, I'm a-thinkin.' Black market, drug trade. But what's all that got to do with sabotage? Reckon we oughta talk to the Commander now. You a-thinkin' the same?"
"Sabotage would cover up a multitude of things," Lucy said quietly as she tried her best to think up something a bit more probable. Then she brightened up, saying, "Yes, the commander's presence would be most welcome."
Westgate tapped his comm badge. "Commander Westgate to Commander Manto. Might we have a quick word?"
=/\= Ah, yes, Commander Westgate. I can join you, just give me a few minutes.=/\=
"We'll be a-settin' in the office. Got some interesting stuff to discuss with ye, if'n ye don't mind none."
The time it took for Cmdr. Manto to arrive at the counseling office didn't leave much time for Lucy and the instructor to chat. Lucy looked sideways at Dr. Westgate. She determined right then that she needed to keep her mind on being a Cadet and learning everything she could.
At the sound of someone at the door, Cadet Grey called out, "Come in!"
"I'm here. Where should we begin?"
"Come in! Come in!" Westgate thundered as the Cardassian Science Officer made her appearance. "Set yourself down. Get comfy."
As Westgate talked, Lucy watched the expression on the newly-arrived commander's face. She seemed to want a place to sit that would allow her access to flight. It was the classic posture of "fight or flight" Lucy smiled at her encouragingly but didn't speak.
"This Shraka feller, you know him? Says here he's up in the chain o' command there, you know. Superintendent or suchlike. An' there's another feller, Gideon Lash, right up along in there with him. Just wanted to see if'n you heard o' these."
<Manto>
Before Cmdr. Manto could reply, Cadet Grey cleared her throat. "I understand you wanted to speak to us, commander. I want to assure you that anything you say in this room is totally confidential."
<Manto>
<Manto>
Lucy felt a compassion creeping into her voice as she said, "There isn't a thing that can be solved in a counselor's hour. Please make an appointment at your convenience. We'll be available."
"I 'preciate ye droppin' by, Commander. I'd recommend another time or two, you know, just so's we can get to know one another."

“Welcome aboard, Cadet,” Admiral Drew said, smiling, “Please at ease; have you had opportunity yet to meet your instructor?”
Relaxing slightly from attention, Megan replied, “Yes, Sir. I just came from meeting her in sickbay, and after being examined by the doctor, I came directly here, Sir.”
“Very good,” Admiral Drew replied. “You may return to your duties, Cadet.”
“Yes, Sir.” Megan replied before turning back toward the turbolift. Once she met back up with her instructor, she would be all caught up and could put being late behind her. “Computer, locate Commander Manto.” she ordered after entering the turbolift, but before receiving a response, the ship went to red alert.
Jumping slightly at the unexpected alarm, Megan contemplated what to do. She should probably continue to where she had been going, but the image of the quiet, mostly empty bridge without a science officer crossed her mind.
This could be an opportunity for her studies and preparation to pay off. True, Commander Manto would most likely arrive within a few minutes, and Megan would probably end up just manning the station without doing anything important before she arrived, but it was still an opportunity to be taken notice of.
She knew that at red alert all bridge stations had to be manned, and she could very well be the closest science officer to the bridge, albeit only a Cadet. She had no idea whether she was doing the right thing, but her mind was made up. The least she could do was ask, and the worse that could happen was being refused.
Squaring her shoulders, Megan re-entered the bridge from the turbolift. The first officer was standing closest to the door and glanced at her as she entered. The Captain was further away and obviously busy, so Megan turned towards the First Officer and asked, “Permission to man the science station until an officer arrives.”

Lucy Kanz Young Lucy took the PADD from her cadet and regarded the results closely, then handed it back to Alex. "This can't be right," she told him, a deep frown creasing her brow. Her porcine nose twitched in anticipation as she waited for her cadet to respond.
(Alex)
"Are you certain you performed this diagnostic right?" Lucy tapped at the PADD. "Look at the paragraphs that I highlighted. You forgot to account for the spacial anomalies on our way as well as our current matter-antimatter ratio. Please perform the diagnostic again, and take a little time to flesh the problems out."
(Alex)
While Alex returned to his console, Lucy tapped her combadge once the cadet was out of hearing range. "Commander Daya, please take your time with your diagnostic, and make sure you give my cadet a little challenge please. I'll be sending him up to the bridge as soon as he finished his work here. Please create a little malfunction on your console for him to fix."
S'reena Hope S'reena listened in as the young chief engineer reported on her cadet and nodded towards Daya. "They could all use a little security training, basic training of course as none of them are to be tactical officers. Give Cadet James a good challenge commander, and while you're at it, give our lovely chief engineer one as well?"
The Romulan flashed a grin at her commanding officer. "Nothing like a good crisis to test our instructors and cadets, don't you agree?" While she waited for Drew to respond, she walked over and tapped Kalen on his shoulder. "Mr Kalen, what's our ETA to the station?"
She turned back to Drew. "Perhaps it's a good idea to have medical standing by for casualties?" she querried innocently, her hand already moving to her combadge. "Sickbay, bridge. We're on approach to the starbase. Stand by to receive casualties; the base is under attack it seems..."

Ashley arrived at astrometrics as the alert light turned red. He noted he was the only one in there at the moment and as he didnt have a combat stations alert station yet here was a good place.
'Computer, display the local space around the station in real time 3d and place the Hanson with related to the station. Patch all data collection to tactical and science stations of the bridge.

T'lal was impressed with the young one. The computer responded, and Ashley was already half way out the door on his way to the bridge. The Vulcan broke into a slight jog to catch up.
"May I assume you are on your way to the bridge, Cadet?" he said to the Cadet as he caught up with him.
The Cadet acknowledged. "The nature of the red alert is perplexing, considering we have not reached our destination. As you have already expressed, it is imperative that we get to he bridge. I will communique ahead to Commander Manto, who undoubtedly is already on her way."
=/\= T'lal to Commander Manto =/\=
=/\= Go ahead, T'lal =/\= She sounded hurried.
=/\= Cadet Ashley and I are on the way to the bridge. Are you there? =/\=
=/\= Indeed I am, Lieutenant. I have Cadet Garrett here as well. We need to get to work, Manto out. =/\=
Cadet Ashley told the computer "bridge" in the turbolift as T'lal's communique ended. The half-Klingon-half-Betazoid and the Vulcan, after a few seconds, had the doors open to the bridge. Konal was rubbing her neck ridges again. T'lal knew what that meant- she was clearly in distress.
"What is the nature of the red alert, Commander?"

Konal smiled politely at the two counselors. The two took turns asking questions of the Cardassian about her contacts. She realized, then, that this wasn't in response to her wanting a meeting with the counselors. This was an interrogation of sorts. When the name Shraka was mentioned, a lump in her throat started to form. When Dr. Westgate's question was finished, the lump had fully formed in her throat, and she had to forcibly swallow before she could talk.
"I know of him, yes. He is a Lieutenant in Starfleet. A very smart man." Konal explained how the Andorian, Shraka, was a botanist at the Outpost. He was in charge of hydroponics.
"It is quite difficult to grow soil based plants in zero gravity environments." The thought of a ship being zero gravity was almost laughable. Gravity plating had been invented a long time ago, and used in almost all space-bound craft. "You see, not all facilities have the ability to grow some of the medicinal plants, and replicators cannot replicate some of the compounds, so it was crucial that we found a way to grow these in any environment." She sighed. "Of course, hydroponics was only one branch of study at the outpost... but Shraka was a very proud man. Very proud."
Westgate proceeded to ask about a character named "Lash". Before Konal spoke, Ms. Grey gave her assurances that everything would be kept confidential. It did little to ease Konal's conscience however, but she was already talking- no sense stopping now.
"I'm not too familiar with that name. Are you sure they worked on the outpost?" Westgate confirmed. "Hmm. They may have been in the waste regeneration section of the outpost. The botany outpost was self sustaining. The waste regenerators were top of the line, though. We had an engineering team tweak them a couple of years ago, and it made the workers have to get less .. well .. dirty. That's probably why they are upset."
She tensed up when she mentioned their upset-ness. She wasn't supposed to know that! The counselor didn't seem to catch on, however, and she stayed quiet, waiting for the polite inquisition to continue.
Westgate, instead, explained that he was around to listen if needed. Konal found him a bit crude however. He had a southern twang, which seemed almost practiced, not natural. He was a smart man- smart enough to know his inflections implied stupidity. On Cardassia, the tactic of making someone think you are less than what you are was common. It was tantamount to spying, pretending you were a commoner when you weren't, Konal decided, which prompted her final question.
"Perhaps next time, it can just be us girls." She smiled warmly at Cadet Grey. "Perhaps over lunch?" She smiled at the Cadet warmly.
She didn't have time for a reply, or gauge Dr. Westgate's reaction, when a red alert signal sounded. Konal jumped up and headed for the bridge. The movement was automatic, and in no way was it skirting her counseling session.
When she reached the bridge, she found Cadet Garrett. Before she could ask what the alert was for, T'lal communiqued her, informing her of his and Cadet D'ville's impending arrival on the bridge.
The communique ended, and Konal's questions began. "Why are we at Red Alert?" She asked Cadet Garrett while checking the panel. It showed Astrometrics data flashing across the screen. After the Cadet explained the situation, Konal spoke. "It looks like Mr. D'ville has sent his data to the bridge. Excellent."
It was only a few minutes later when a Vulcan entered the bridge, followed by the large Cadet. "Commander Manto, what is the nature of the red alert?" Manto echoed Megan's explanation.
"If you do not need my assistance at this time, I can better serve the ship in Astrometrics." Konal acknowledged, and dismissed the Vulcan.
"Ok. Cadet D'ville, we need those readouts from the long range sensors. We need to know what exactly exploded. Get help from Engineering. Cadet Alex James, in Engineering, can help with metallurgical analysis of the blast. Hopefully enough data was collected in my absence to get a good set of results."
The Cardassian, no longer rubbing her neck ridges, was completely in the moment. The stress of the outpost... her outpost... having so many problems, was far away in her mind. She had a job to do, and she was going to do it.
"Cadet Garrett. Since you are already manning the science station, see if you can't scan the region for ships or other suspicious objects. Report the results to me when you are through."
Garrett got to work, and Konal sat next to her, helping her analyze readouts. Cadet D'ville was busy at work directly next to them, quickly analyzing data before heading to engineering with it.
