Re: Hepta Mission Thread: Cold War « Reply #17 on May 4, 2006, 10:50pm »
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Alex listened to the briefing, and when it was done, she turned to her cadet. "Meet me in sickbay in twenty minutes, and don't be late," she commanded him, then left quickly.
Gary looked around a few minutes at those who lingered in the briefing room, and then Chris turned to Gary and said "Have fun in medical I have to go to the bridge and learn how to use the helms of this ship." Gary followed him out, but went right instead of left.
It wasn't long before he cought up to her. She spoke first. "Welcome to sickbay cadet, many medical instructors would put you to work inventorying supplies, but there has been a call for help on the ship, medical help. I can't leave sickbay at this time, I have another coming who is badly injured. I have to attend him, he is top priority and a member of the ambassador's staff. You will take this map and head to the coordinates listed. You must hurry, I do believe this member is very important to our crew, and that this person's life is in danger. Go now, there is a medkit there on the chair, take it with you, and good luck cadet," she said leaving her office. She and her staff were preparing for an injured person.
Gary scooped up the medkit and bolted out the door. The turbolift took him down a few decks, then shortly thereafter, arrived at the assigned compartment. He smiled inwardly when he realised they were reinforced doors. Used on armories, High priority containment spaces, and... holodecks. Another puzzle. Was this a hazardous environment species? or a test? He'd treat it like the real thing. It's better to treat fantasy like reality, than reality like fantasy.
He opened the doors to see... <Tag Alex>

She watched him, and noticed the doors opened to her maze. It was a bunch of hallways that all looked the same. The maze was the first check point, and she wondered how long it would take him to figure it out. It was the easiest of the check points, and she hoped he would at least make it to point number four, after that one no one else had pasted, except the creator.
She noticed he took the first right, and wondered if he was guessing. She noticed he was using the map. ~Did he break my code on the map? No way!~ She thought as she watched him going through all the right passages. She noticed the turned left instead of right on one, and sighed relief remembering there was three different ways on the map marked for this area. ~He is just guessing, I knew he didn't break the code of the maze. That would have been cool though, and in record time too. Oh well maybe he will figure it out soon.~ She thought and picked up a padd to note a few things.
A little while later she looked to see where he was, and noted he was checking another place in the same area, which was close to the exit of the maze. She smiled and went back to work on the stack of padds on her desk. She looked to see if the second point was activated, and noticed it was. ~He is in for a surprise with that second check point. I hope he is a good fighter, that creature is a nasty one.~ She thought, and noticed they were low on some supplies. She got up to see why.

*Kiara had heard the call for all cadets and instructors to report to tenfoward for the briefing, she thought how unusual it was for them to have the briefing there, but she shrugged itoff and made her way to find all of them there and already talking, she blushed and took a seat close by and listened as some of the others spoke. she observed for the most of the time, but listened quietly none the less. she only spoke once and that was when the briefing was coming to an end.*
Hawk stood up to face the group, "Any Engineering Cadets please meet me over next to the replicator before heading out."
Yes sir *she replied and stood to walk over to the replicator, she felt somewhat uneasy not sure what to expect for being late, but she had lost tract of time as she had become interested in a book. she made her way to the replicator and waited for the cmdr.*

Seth walked to his cadet, who just arrived at the bridge and seemed very eager to put theory into practise.
"Good morning cadet," he started, "My name is commander Seth Bern, I will be your instructor for this mission." Seth then offered his hand to the cadet, who willingly shook it.
<Tag Chris Pemberton>
"The main goal of this mission is to transport our ambassador to his destination, and judging the fact that captain Edwards told us that we will most likely enter hostile area, there is a good chance that we will have to perform evasive maneuvres or anything of the sort. But first, depature. Could you perhaps tell me everything you know about leaving the spacedock?" Seth asked Chirs.

Commander Bern walked up to him and greeted Chris, he stuck out his hand, chris shook with a firm grip. The the commander asked if he knew anything about taking out a starship. "Well all I know is how to tkae out a small science class vessel, never a full scale starship." Chris waited a second trying to think on the subject.
"I know that you would first need permission from Spacedock command before you even try to take the ship out." He waited a few more seconds. " Then you need to bring the ship up to power and get it started. and thats about as much as I can remember at the moment but I bet if I can get behind the controls I could do it." He said with a smile on his face.

"It's good to see that you're so confident mr Pemberton!" Seth said with an equal smile. "I would like to add a couple of things to the procedure that you just summed up sothat you can singlehandedly take all the actions, but I will still be by your side when you actually perform the departure."
Seth sat down next to Chris and produced a PADD out of his pocket, he then opened up a checklist and transferred it to the screen of the navigations console.
"Some things might sound familiar to you, but as an instructor I have to run you through the complete list to ensure that you know everything, including the right order." Seth said. "First thing, no departure can be initiated without the captains command. After that, as you said, you can ask permission from the spacedock. It's common practise to start disconnecting the ship from it's dock while waiting for the response, but officially you can't start leaving without the OK from the spacedock. So let's say that you did get the permission, you will make sure that there are no hoses, walkways etc connecting the ship with the dock. It's the spacedock's task to unclamp the vessel, but it's your task (together with the other officers on the bridge) to check whether is has actually happened."
Seth tried to cut the theory into small chunks, and made sure that Chris understood one part, before moving on to the second. "Any questions so far?" Seth asked.

James felt like coming home. It had been a while since he had last trodden the hallways of the Hepta. It was good to be back.
Since his arrival, he hadn't really done much. He savoured the time until the mission briefing, because after that, he would probably have very little time for anything else. James had only briefly met the Ambassador and his aides. To be honest, James didn't care much for politicians. In the past, he had had several bad experiences with them and he was quite convinced that most of them had an agenda of their own. He didn't trust politicians further than he could see them, although he granted that there might be some exceptions........somewhere in the galaxy.
On a more practical note, James didn't think a Federation starship was the best place for politicians. All things considered, the Hepta, although at heart a peaceful vessel, could be turned into a warship in a splitsecond. Definately no place for pencil pushers.
The turbolift doors slid open and James entered the Bridge. Right as he had left it! He nodded towards the other crew members and sat down in his XO's chair. This might be an interesting mission, he thought, hoping things wouldn't go too sour.

"Excuse me Commander, this is a stupid question. I want to train in Tactical, so where should I report for training?"

Adislo stayed in ten-forward for the briefing as she was asked to. She had been aware of most of her mission, but apparently her aide hadn't showed up yet. Or if he had, he hadn't introduced himself to her. She disliked this. She knew about the mission and was thinking over her strategy, but she would appreciate knowing the person she was going to collaborate with.
As the Captain started to leave for the bridge, Adislo rose from her seat and walked towards him. “Captain,” she said. “I appreciate your ship taking me to negotiate. I know this puts the Hepta at risk, but, quite frankly, I can't negotiate without Starfleet and your ship to get me there and back me up.” As much as she hated to admit it. “Has my aide has arrived on the ship yet, as far as you know?” Adislo asked. She didn't want to pester the Captain, but she figured he would be the one to know.

David had only just stowed his gear when the all call sounded and he quickly made his way to Ten Forward. He kept to himself near the back as always and gave the captain every stitch of his attention. He was a last minute placement on the Hepta and he expected someone to try and test him later.
The young cadet was almost taken aback when it dawned on him that he knew about Denebola IV and Sirius V. His father had told him many things about both empires and he knew that his father clearly favored the Sirians. Apparently, they were a rather gracious people that took rather quickly to the Federation. However, it was long ago that David's father had been involved in intergalactic politics or privy to any of the Federations policies.
David walked up to the dias from which the captain had made his presentation as the Ambassador asked something of the captain. He tried to take mental note of just where everything was.
"Mindless memorization," his former tutor had called it, but it was the only real cure for David's curiousity.
After a moment, he shrugged and walked over to the bar area. He didn't really know anyone yet, considering he'd only just made it on the Hepta and he'd been separated from his former classmates. He sat down at the bar and sighed with his head bowed. He ordered a glass of water and turned around to watch the stars float by the window. He certainly wasn't in Kansas anymore. David smiled soon he would start OPS training and then the fun would begin, taking up his glass, toasted the thought.

Gary came to the end of the maze, to face another set of doors. He sighed in relief, realizing that this narrowed the field of possibilities to Secure area, or holodeck. Since spaces on a starship were modular, this could be where exra wall panels were stored. He activated the door and entered.
OOC: I've been avidly reading Alex's posts to see what kind of alien or critter Gary will be facing, and since it's not specified, I'll improvise. If she has something in mind, I'll come back to this post and edit.
IC: A D'Haran gar pounced on him almost immediately. These gar were promarily used as pet/bodyguards of the royal family from D'Hara 3. If Gary didn't act quickly, he'd be gar-chow. He planted a foot in the gars midsection and heaved upward. He regretted it immediately, as the gar barely budged. He added his other leg to the effort, and with the help of a little adrenaline, violently sent the gar into a backward tumble. Grabbing an item from his medkit, and loading it beyond it's usual capacity, he suddenly ran at the gar. At the last minute, he dropped into a foreward roll under the swingingarm of the gar, which had he been standing, would have taken off his head with four claws the size of corn knives. He rolled to his feet, and swung the item back to connect with the back of the gars neck. With the hypospray, he delivered enough sedative to drop a bull elephant. The gars face relaxed, and looking exhausted, the gar sank to a sitting position, and became lost in though. Only for a minute, before it lapsed unconcious.
Gary began to walk away, and found he had to sit also, as his muscles, now out of their adrenal boost, were making him ache and shake all over.

“Has my aide has arrived on the ship yet, as far as you know?” TJ grimaced at what Ambassador Adislo had said. How could he have been so dense? Of course, Hepta would have to stay in the vicinity of the negotiations as a “trump card” in the sad event that it should have to be played. He knew this, but it had somehow been shoved into the back of his mind.
“Be assured th’ Hepta will be offerin’ ye all th’ support you’ll be needin’,” he answered the ambassador.
“As t’ your aide, I’ve not heard from him yet. But take heart, colleen; we’ll not be leavin’ th’ starbase for about five hours yet.”

5 hours later
The tension was rising. It always was when the Hepta was about to set sail. The crew were at their stations. Slowly but surely, the Hepta drifted out of spacedock. The coordinates were set, the Hepta was ready.
TJ nodded to James, who in turn looked at Commander Bern. "Mr Bern, whenever you are ready...." Commander Bern responded with a light smile. "Engage!" The Hepta shot into warp 7, on her way to the negotations.
sorry lads, my pizza will be ready in a few minutes. if possible I'll post a more elaborate post tonight, otherwise tomorrow. I just thought I'd speed things along.... And now.......PIZZA! O'Connor

OOC: This is before the FO's post. Thanks.
IC: Alex wanted to hurry back to see what her cadet had done, but someone had called her away. She knew a new member of the crew had come, and that she had to revive him, her, or whatever the species gender was. She grabbed a medkit and a padd heading out to accomplish this task without losing contact with what her cadet was doing.
In the turbolift, she used the padd to see what Gary was up to. She watched the whole fight with the gar in the turbolift, very much impressed with his quick thoughts and actions.
"So, you can think on your feet, good. You will need it for the next couple of check points," she said thinking of the next one. It was where he had to see who he could trust. She had put herself in this hoping to see if he trusted it was her or not. She remembered taking on this part of the course, and her skin crawled as she faced the shape shifter becoming her father. She pushed those thoughts from her mind, and put the padd in her belt as she found herself leaving the turbolift to some place in lower engineering. She didn't understand why she was needed fully, but she went with it any ways.
She found the creature in a tube like home, and it looked like it was sleeping. She ran a scan of the vitals, and found the best way to wake it up from this. She grabbed a tricorder remembering what she read a couple of hours ago, and tuned it to a certain freqency. She was startled by someone tapping her on the shoulder and she dropped the tricorder. It sounded off, and many had to cover their ears.
She jumped up in the watery place she now called home and noticed what was causing the noise. She reached out with her mind using the many complex devises that was now part of it, and turned the tricorder off. Many looked relieved to see it off. She looked to see who woke her, and noticed a woman going to pick up the tricorder.
Many thanks for waking me. Must have been some ride to this ship, and I look forward to working with the crew and cadets. She said using her mind to connect to the other woman's mind.
Alex couldn't believe what just happened, and only nodded. She was shocked, and then left to return to sickbay.
Sheeta was busy familarizing herself with the ship, and found her cadet was aboard. She looked to see what the mission might be, and who she was the instructor of. She looked and saw it was a young man by the name of David Ramsey. She read up on who he was, and decided to see if he was ready to learn. She found out he was in Ten Forward.
=^=Sheeta to Cadet Ramsey, report to your station.=^=
She then looked over Ops from her position. Nothing too pressing going on right now, just a couple of messages coming in, which she sent to the correct stations.

David promptly turned about and placed his glass on the counter and tapped his communicator.
"Acknowledged," he said.
He smiled at the bartender and took off at a steady pace toward the turbolift at the end of the hall. He encountered a few other cadets there, but they were busy amongst themselves and he had never been one to interrupt.
"Bridge," he said simply.
A few moments later he strolled into the command center and sidestepped the rather busy looking officers and enlisted personnel. He saw a young woman at the OPS station that appeared to be awaiting someone.
"Cadet Ramsey, reporting for duty, ma'am," he said cordially as he came to attention.

Sheeta decided that not being there in any form for the cadet when he was on the bridge wasn't acceptable. She decided it was time to create herself as a human would look. She tapped a few databases, and then finally had it. She projected herself at the Ops station, and not a moment too soon. The cadet came on the scene, and reported in.
"Good, I am your instructor, Sheeta, and no you may no shorten my name," she said and smiled in her holotype form. She looked real enough, and she was satisfied with what she had. She sat back in her tank to let the other form do the work.
She was short for a human, only about five feet tall, but she liked being the short one, not one to stand tall in much of a large crowd, but able to be lost. She liked the thought when creating the image. She had red shoulder length hair and blue eyes. She never understood why she didn't see anything like this, but she liked what she saw. She put her image in a uniform, although it wasn't necessary. She remembered she was a Lt., but she didn't put any rank on the uniform. She detested her rank, and found she never used it.
"Okay, cadet, come and make sure things are running right. Let me see how well you know your station," she said and made her character stand in the back of the station. She made sure her image never came in contact with the cadet.
(David)
"Well, that is good, but I see we need some work, no worries though, I bet you will have this before the end of the week," she said and smiled again. "I noticed a few things. You checked sensor imput for the station, a wise move. Anyone can tamper with a station before you get to it, but you didn't check the subsystems. I also noticed you didn't keep up with the incoming messages either. Don't worry, you will get the hang of it. Go ahead and continue to run the station as if you were here by yourself," she said wanting to watch him further. She stood back, in image form, and then disappeared finding she couldn't keep the image up and going for too long. It was causing too much stresson her for her to keep it up. She gave in, hoping he wouldn't wonder where she had gone.
She continued to watch him from afar, and then sent him a message on his console.
Good, continue that. I am still around, I just couldn't keep that image going. TOO much work for an old one like myself. If you have any questions, query them through the computer using my name. I will get them immediately, and respond as quickly as possible.

The young cadet was not surprised to find that his instructor was less than human, but he was unphased. His father had always pounded the idea of cooperation into his head and his mother had always emphasized understanding so, naturally, he'd turned out to be a very open minded person.
He quickly clicked off a simple Understood before returning to work.
David sighed and tried to concentrate more on the incoming messages. He tried to remember the excercises he'd studied on Earth, but they weren't nearly as helpful as his instructors had claimed. He was getting frustrated, but he remembered his father's mantra and started to slow down and really pay attention to what messages were vital and which ones could be ignored. He was able to make his corrections faster without tying his brain in a knot and the console didn't seem to be so angry with him anymore.
He hoped his instructor wouldn't disapprove as he continued to mentally rank each incoming intrasystem command prompt and respond to those that were essential. He did not completely ignore the others, but he was able to go back to many of them with time and energy to spare.
