TJâs destination now had to be re-routed. Up until recently, he had expected to hold the graduation ceremony in Holodeck Twelve, located on deck fourteen, but this had now been assigned as an Instructional Holo-classroom, along with several other holodecks he had previously used, and he had been informed the Graduation Hall, twelve decks lower, was the assigned area for all graduation ceremonies until further notice.
Remembering his previous âNative Americanâ graduation ceremony, and wanting to do something of that nature again, he was pleased to see the Hall had holodeck-like capabilities.
âComputer, run program TJ Edwards 3785 Rio,â he said as he stood at the entryway of the large hall.
In response, there was a humming at the control box, and when it had stopped, the door to the Graduation Hall opened, and he entered.
This time, instead of the buckskin, moccasins and Sioux war bonnet from the previous graduation, his command uniform changed differently, and he took time to examine its appearance, and enjoy the feel of the material.
There was a flannel shirt in a simple red-and-black plaid design, and he found himself in a pair of faded Levis. His feet were covered by a pair of ornate boots with a one-inch heel; he wore a blue Stetson hat and a Colt .45 hung at his right hip. A blue bandanna, knotted at the side, completed his ensemble.
He pulled the brim of his hat down a bit over his eyes to shade them from the brightness of the sun, and smiled his approval at the comfort of his clothing for the eveningâs festivities.
Surrounding him in the distance â where before there had been the walls of the Graduation Hall â were mountains, turned to an azure hue by the atmospheric haze by virtue of the distance. Sagebrush and cacti filled the area as far as he could see.
About an eighth of a mile ahead were a series of Conestoga wagons â covered prairie schooners â arranged in a semi-circle, and gathered around a campfire. In the wagon to the far left, the camp cook, an emaciated fellow that looked as if he hadnât eaten in a month, and hadnât shaved in about the same time, was busy with his assistants at the chuck wagon, making the final preparations for the evening meal. This was going to be a big night, and plenty of food would be needed. TJ took a deep breath, sighing in contentment with the aroma of hickory smoked beef and a thick, rich barbecue sauce.
TJ had started the holodeck program just in time, for as he approached the camp, friends and relatives of the cadets were filing in, and as they entered, their clothing was also changed to fit the theme of tonightâs festivities. Men were surprised at their garb, so much like that TJ was wearing, and the ladies, some in Levis and others in fringed skirts, rounded out the setting, balancing the masculine western wear. The officers of the Hepta, too, had their Starfleet uniforms transformed by the holodeck settings in the Graduation Hall.
As the guests entered, TJ repeatedly rehearsed the dialect he had been practicing for this event. Somehow, a cowboy with a heavy Irish brogue just didnât seem authentic. He hoped any natural accent he had might not âsneak throughâ and cause him to look ridiculous.
With the gathering of the guests, one of the men took a guitar made of a deep red mahogany wood, and began to strum it with great skill.
Another pulled out a harmonica, and still another, a fiddle, and proceeded to play various tunes with a distinct American Western flavor.
Most seemed to enjoy the performance, and when the last note had been played, TJ stepped up near the campfire and, doing all he could to mask his brogue and to speak in a western dialect, addressed the crowd.
ââTis right happy I am,â he began. He caught his Irish syntax coming through his dialect, and immediately tried to correct it.
âI mean tâ say âIâm right obliged tâ each oâ you for showinâ up this eveninâ. Weâre here tâ be honorinâ our fine group oâ cadets, anâ promote âem all tâ full-fledged officers in Starfleet.â
A spontaneous cheer went up from the cadets, at which TJ smiled, his eyes twinkling in the light of the campfire, as the sun was now sitting in the western sky, and the clouds created a beautiful palette of colors, reds and oranges and golds.
âBefore we actually do graduate these young men anâ women, though, Iâve asked a couple oâ thâ trail bosses tâ say a few words. Anâ first up tâ speak tâ us ... Sheriff ONE, come anâ say a few words, will yuh?â
Altering his vocal patterns was difficult for the Irishman, and he was glad to stop talking for a moment to let Commandant ONE speak. After ONE had spoken to the cadets, officers and guests, he took his seat again, and the three men who had opened the graduation festivities picked up their instruments again. TJ returned to center stage, applauding with the attendees, then held his hands up for silence.
âThank you, Sheriff, for addressinâ us tonight, anâ for takinâ time from your busy schedule.
Anâ now, speakinâ tâ you all, thâ very popular â anâ very powerful â Calamity Karynn! Madam, we await your words oâ wisdom.â
The Irishman took a seat again. Once more the musicians took center stage, picked up their instruments, and sang.: âAnâ now,â TJ said as he stood again, âIâm gonna ask all thâ cadets tâ stand in line up here.â
Each of the cadets took their places. Paikea of the Science department, and standing beside him, Katie Anderson of Operations; Cyle Johnson and William Hunter, Marine cadets, and several others who had also survived the mission, having escaped the carnage of Andromache.
After a brief moment of silence for those who had not made it through the mission alive, during which a tear trickled down TJâs face, the Irishman continued.
âThis mission was on thâ order of police business. We were facinâ a strong and implacable foe, anâ Iâm assurinâ you that each oâ thâ cadets performed in their duties well.
âPaikea, step forward.â
The Science cadet did so.
âMâlad, it is my pleasure tâ award you this certificate <here, TJ handed him his diploma> , and my congratulations for thâ completion oâ your traininâ as a cadet in Starfleet.â
Pinning a pip on the collar of Paikeaâs shirt to the music of applause for the cadet, TJ shook his hand, and the cadet stepped back into the line.
âMr. Hunter, step forward.â
When he did so, TJ went through the same, handing him his diploma and pinning the pip on his shirt collar, then shaking his hand before the cadet returned to the line, marching to the applause that sounded for him.
Many others received diplomas and pips also, and then TJ spoke again.
âYou might have been noticinâ I passed over two of our cadets â until now.
âNo disregard for thâ service oâ thâ others intended â because, in truth, they did an admirable job in a difficult situation â there is a reason Iâve waited tâ introduce these last two cadets tâ you all.
âKatie Anderson, step forward.â
A bit uncertain of what to expect, Katie stepped up to the captain.
âMiss Anderson, in each graduatinâ class, two cadets are chosen for special honors. One of these cadets earns thâ Academy Ribbon for service above anâ beyond thâ call oâ duty.
âThis young woman,â TJ told the attendees, âdespite beinâ untrained in combat, nevertheless took her place in thâ battle with Andromache anâ her Amazonian forces, placinâ her life anâ limb in jeopardy tâ perform her duties â anâ, I might add â tâ help save her captainâs life. Because she did so without special combat traininâ, I award Cadet Katie Anderson thâ Academy Ribbon.â
TJ placed the Ribbon in her hand, then pinned the pip on her collar and handed her her diploma before she took her place back in line beside Paikea. It seemed she didnât even hear the clapping of hands honoring her. She was too busy looking into the smiling eyes of Cadet Paikea.
âCadet Cyle Johnson, step forward.â
Cadet Johnson stood before the captain.
âMr. Johnson has shown a great deal oâ potential. He, along with thâ rest oâ thâ cadets anâ officers, were responsible for rescuinâ yours truly from thâ sacrificial knife oâ Andromache.
âThis lad fought well, having to face Andromache, an incredibly skilled warrior, alone. She even paid his military skills a compliment, sayinâ he had great military potential. Anâ I happen tâ agree.
âIn addition, this lad dared tâ challenge thâ Warrior Queen in thâ face oâ certain defeat, and came up with a way tâ take her into custody. Anâ it is for all these, Mr. Johnson, that I award you thâ Academy Star oâ Excellence, thâ highest award a cadet can receive.â
Applause filled the hall as Captain Edwards pinned the pips on Cyleâs collar, handed him his diploma, and finally pinned on his chest the Star of Excellence. Cyle stepped back into the line, and blinked in disbelief.
âAnâ now, me friends,â TJ said, relieved that he could drop the western accent and speak in his normal brogue, âjoin me in welcominâ these new ... officers ... tâ Starfleet Command!â
The applause rose in volume, lasting for a full two minutes, until TJ put up his hand again for silence.
âAnâ now, me friends, youâre all invited tâ be joininâ us in this beautiful barbecue, compliments oâ thâ Academy!â
TJ did not cancel the computer program. The clothing was too comfortable, and the time was too much fun. The rest of the evening everyone was in western dress â until each one left the Graduation Hall, and the illusion ceased for them.
As the cookâs assistants passed out the food, the musicians played again ...

Joan smiled as she noticed the awards given, and she remembered getting something too. It just wasn't dawning on her just what though, and she shrugs giving up for now. She works her way around the room to each cadet congratulating them on their success.
"Way to go, Paikea, oh and I hear a little something about romance." Joan says smiling. "Good luck with that, oh Katie, congrats. Do either of you know where you will be stationed yet?" She says, remembering to say something to Katie when she joined them. She saw Cyle across the room, and tried to make it over there. She was interrupted several times, but eventually got over to him.
"Congrats, Cyle, good job on that award. So, where are you going to be stationed?" She says, listening as she looks around to see if Roz is here. She had heard what had happened on the other ship, and she wanted to apologize, plus there was something else she had wanted to ask the woman. She gave up, and excused herself to get something to eat before all the cadets ate it all.

Paikea had graduated and he was extremely happy, he was happy for himself, but even happier for his fellow cadets. Paikea didn't know anyone better to recieve the Academy awards, than Cyle and Katie. They had each faced extreme peril when they were not called for.
After the cermony was over, Paikea and Katie continued to talk about everything that had happened, and would happen in their future. They were going to be stationed somwhere in the fleet, and Paikea hopefully thought that it would be together.
"Way to go, Paikea, oh and I hear a little something about romance." Joan says smiling. "Good luck with that, oh Katie, congrats. Do either of you know where you will be stationed yet?" Joan asked.
"No, I don't know yet," Paikea said blushing as his old instructor elluded to his relationship with Katie. Paikea then felt a slight tap on his shoulder and when he turned around his mouth dropped to the floor.
"Hello Pai," a older women said to Paikea. Paikea quickly got closer to the women and placed his forhead on her's. "Hello my dear son." Paikea didn't even know that his parents knew anything about him. He had thought they would never talk to him.
"Where is father?" Paikea asked looking around for his father, but not finding him.
"Pai, I'm sorry Posoragani did not come," Rehutas said to her son. Paikea was clearly disappointed that his father still had not forgiven him for him joining Starfleet, but at the moment that didn't matter.
"Well his loss," Piakea said bitterly," but where are my manners. Mom this is Katie Anderson a really special friend." Rehutas knew what special friend meant and polietly shook Katie's hand.
"Well Paikea I will be leaving you two for now," Katie said wanting Paikea to talk to his mom. Paikea was going to say she didn't have to leave, but to be honest he wanted to talk to his mother.
A couple hours later
The talk with his mother had left Paikea restless, thier village had been hit by a monster storm and most of it was destroyed. Luckily no one died, but one hundred years of work were destroyed.
"Mr. Apirana," an officer said. No one had ever called him Mr. Apirana, in fact no one knew that his last name was Apirana. Wait then he remembered, when he signed up for the Academy four years ago he had given his entire name.
"Yes what can I do for you," Paikea said.
"This is for you," the man said as he handed him a PADD.
"Thank you," Paikea said and quickly read the PADD. The PADD held his assignment and he was due to leave the next day.
Off: Well I think for the first time since I have joined S47, I don't have a cadet in the Academy. I'll see how that goes.

OCC: Cyle, we will get our assignments once the Personal officer gives us our assignments, but you can ask him to be assigned somewhere, I think. That is correct. You may put your bid in for a particular ship, and if they have an open spot, Section 47 loves to comply with your request. But I would request whatever ship ASAP.
Good job, all! You've made this a VERY fun mission for me as well! Good luck on your assignments.

Katie was shocked as she took the items from her Captain and stood next to Paikea. She never felt she had done anything close to get such an award, thinking Paikea more than anybody deserved it the most being one of the first cadets down to help save the Captain.
After the beautiful ceremony Katie walked around with Paikea talking and laughing with fellow cadets and officers until Paikea was stopped by the words of his mother.
"I will leave you two alone." Katie said.
Walking away Katie spotted her other friend William Hunter.
"William! Congratulations!" She said giving William a big hug.
<William>
The two friends talked for some time before Katie realized this would be the last time she was going to be able to see William face to face, for awhile at least.
"You better write me!" Katie said with a smile.
After the long conversation Katie began to make her way around the holodeck when she spotter her parents looking around at all the cadets.
"MOM! DAD!" Katie yelled.
Racing toward her parents Katie embraced them with all her might. She was so very happy they could make it out to the graduation.
"When did you get here?" Katie asked.
"Yesterday." Her father said with a smile.
"We also have a surprise for you." Katie's mother said pointing.
Katie followed her mothers finger into the crowd and spotted two older men talking with instructors and cadets.
"DAVE! SEAN!" She yelled.
Katie's two brothers turned and smile at their younger sister. Katie rushed her two brothers almost tacking them in the process. She gave each of them a big hug, she couldn't express in words how happy she was to see them.
"Congratulations Katie." Dave said.
"Thanks Dave! Congratulations to you to, I see you are now a Commander!" Katie replied.
"Just got it the day before last." Dave said smiling.
"Hey! What about me?" Sean asked.
"I didn't notice anything different about you butt-head!" Katie fired at him.
Just as Katie was about to rough house with her older brothers some more Katie noticed Paikea walking through the crowd.
"Paikea!" Katie yelled his way.

After recieving his information Paikea decided to go back to the party. He wanted to spend some time with his friends. As soon as he go there he heard Katie yelling at him. She was accompanied by four people and Paikea automatically knew who they were. He had seen the her pictures of her family in her quarters.
"Paikea!" Katie yelled.
"Hey, Katie, how are you doing?" Paikea said clearly not looking at her family just yet.
"Paikea I would like to introduce to you my family," Katie said with a smile."This is my dad, my mom, and my brothers, Dave and Sean."
Paikea quickly acknolwedged Katie's family and saw the pips around there collars. Paikea quickly went into attention which caused her brothers to start laughing.
"I like him," Dave said.
"Son, you don't have to be all regulation today, especially since this is your day not ours," Katie's dad said.
"So how do you know our little Katie?" Katie's mom asked. Paikea gave Katie a look hoping that she would take the cue and tell her parents.

She was slow yet, and secretly the slowness annoyed her. Xin-Ling was known for lightning-quick responses, but the injuries she had suffered on the planet at the bite of a Themiscryan arrow had demanded she take things easy for awhile.
Yet despite that slowness, Xin-Ling, looking a bit out-of-place in a skirted cowgirl outfit, laboriously made her way among the graduates, former cadets who were now officers of Starfleet, and took the hand of each, congratulating them.
"Congratulations, Mr. Paikea," she said. "Have you receive word where you are to be stationed?"
<Tag: Paikea>
Then moving on, she found William Hunter, and, approaching him, said, "Mr. Hunter, you are marine. Are you assigned to Marine vessel, or have you hear as yet?"
<Tag: William Hunter>
"Wherever they send you, congratulations on graduation."
Katie was speaking with her parents and brothers as Xin-Ling came to her, extending her hand, and said, "Congratulations, Katie. Are you and Paikea assign together?"
<Tag: Katie Anderson>
She did this for many of the former cadets, and in their midst she saw Cyle, and also came to him.
"Mr. Johnson, you have been award Academy's Star of Excellence. This is great honor. My congratulations to you."
<Tag: Cyle>
Leaving Cyle then, she sat at a rock, asked a passerby if she would bring her a tea, and within moments was drinking and resting her back, wishing she would hurry up and completely recover.

ok i guess that works. but i kinda applied to be station on a an academy ship, so i dont know about that yet It won't happen immediately, unless you've accumulated enough points to skyrocket to the full lieutenant rank already, which is not very common, though it has been done.
To get an Academy vessel assignment, I would wait until you reach the full lieutenant's position. Answer the trivia weekly and the polls whenever they come out, because that's how you get your points now that you've graduated.
I believe there is also a four-month membership requirement at Section 47 before being assigned on an Academy ship as well.
Once you have reached the full lieutenant level, then contact Commandant ONE, expressing your interest in a transfer to an Academy vessel, and when there is an opening, you will very likely be assigned there.
Good luck, Cyle!

"So how do you know our little Katie?" Katie's mom asked. Paikea gave Katie a look hoping that she would take the cue and tell her parents.
"Mom, this is the boy I was telling you about before we left on our mission." Katie said shyly.
"So your the nice boy that Katie has been telling us so much about." Katie's mom said with a bit smile.
Just as Katie began to feel really embarresed another instructor came over Commander Xin-Ling. Katie had to admit after the battle with the amazon women she was very intemidated by the Commander.
Katie was speaking with her parents and brothers as Xin-Ling came to her, extending her hand, and said, "Congratulations, Katie. Are you and Paikea assign together?"
"I don't know yet Commander, sorry. Do you have any idea when I should find out?" Katie asked.

OFF: Lorian, as instructors we're supposed to be well-behaved... never do anything mean or nasty... you don't see me ejecting the Hepta's warp drive or starting food fights here, do you? No, you'll need to be a good instructor. Are any of these words like 'well-behaved' in your vocabulary? How about 'peaceful?' 'Calm?' ;D ON: William and Penfold tried to make it around to all the Cadets, but several were quite caught up in the excitement (William thought he heard something about 'holy doo-dooake mushroom-men'), and it took the instructors a while to get around to eveyone. Eventually, William caught up to Paikea. "You'll need to keep in touch with Penfold and myself, all right?" said William. "Of course, mother," said Paikea. "You want my life story updated every few months like everyone else?" "I assume you're referring to your love life? Please no details. A subspace sommunication every now and then would be nice, though." William smiled, producing a present. "I got you something. Think of it as a wedding gift." Lorian rolled his eyes and threw a pastry at William, then opened the gift. It was a small teddy bear.

Penfold was loving this environment. He was dressed mostly in denim, with a large felt Stetson El Patron atop his furry head. He had been tempted to go for an old Resistol, but opted for the ancient tradition of the Stetson instead. His denim jacket was adorned with tanned leather tassels and he felt very smart, yet relaxed.
He congratulated most of the newly graduated cadets, in particular young Paikea. He grinned as William handed over the present, knowing full well what was inside. Now that the ceremony was over though, he knew the real fun would soon begin...
