Alex had wished Captain Edwards would be with them, and was in his office waiting for word on who would be the Acting CO over her.
It wasn't long before Commander McCormick showed up, and Alex stood at attention.
"As you were. I am here reporting in for duty. I am to be your Doctor for this mission. You look confused," Joan said watching Alex.
"Yes, ma'am. I was wondering who you got for a captain to be over me on this mission," Alex said watching the girl who chuckled. It felt weird calling the kid ma'am.
"No one else. You are going to take this ship out, with me under you actually. I am going to go survey my sickbay, unless you needed me?" Joan said, and noticed the woman looked shocked. Alex just shook her head and watched Joan leave in a little bit of shock.
Alex left the Captain's Ready Room in search of one person. She had already sent in for records sake telling them to keep it pending only. She looked around not finding him, and left the bridge.
Alex chimed to be let into the counselor's office, and was admitted very quickly, which surprised her. She noticed he was sitting down, and motioned for him to stay that way.
"I am not here for that," she said teasing him a little. "They have granted I shall be captain for this next mission, and I wanted to know if you want the job of Acting FO," Alex said, and then remembered she forgot to do something. She held up her index finger telling him to wait a minute.
=^=Nikmud to the crew. We will have a briefing in about two hours. Be in the breifing room, and don't be late.=^=
"Alright, yes or no?" Alex said coming back to the conversation with the counselor.

Leo had been a wreck since the last mission. He knew that working in Starfleet had a way of hitting you where you least expect it. However, he hadn't expected to be so shaken up by it. Facing his fears was one thing, but having to force himself to continue experiencing them and to control them was something else. After a brief meeting with his good friend and fellow psychologist, Gand, he'd managed to get himself back to neutral, but leaving his office was something of a challenge these days. He sat at this desk with his head propped up in his hand staring at nothing most of the day.
When the chime sounded he nearly leapt from his seat. He opened the door and was shocked to see Commander Nikmund there with a rather excited expression on her face. He didn't hear all that she said, but when the words "you" and "acting FO" hit his ears he sprang to life.
"Wait, what?"
She held up her index finger telling him to wait a minute.
=^=Nikmud to the crew. We will have a briefing in about two hours. Be in the breifing room, and don't be late.=^=
"Alright, yes or no?" Alex said coming back to the conversation with the counselor
Leo stared at her for a moment.
"Surely there are more qualified--"
"No one else on this ship has clocked as much time in space as you," she cut him off cleanly and with obvious purpose, "you've served on seven different starships! You're certainly more than qualified! So ... yes or no?"
Leo stared a moment more and finally croaked out an answer.
"Y-y-yea, ok. I'll do it. So long as there's no heavy lifting ... " he replied finally with a smirk.
"Wonderful! I'll see you at the briefing."
With that Commander Nikmund strolled out in a fashion that implied she wasn't so much walking on the clouds, but skiing on them at an incredible rate and Leo slammed back into his seat. He stared up at the ceiling and wondered what the hell was wrong with him.

Her meticulous nitpicking was common on the ships Lydia Anderson had served. Ever since her time on the USS Voyager, Lydia tried to keep everything in perfect order. Her closest was arranged so that she would have a different uniform for every shift and pj's for every night. It never changed and she wouldn't want it any other way.
Her decision to join the academy ranks came as a surprise to her last commanding officer. She doubted that she would be able to deal with the uncertainty of Academy life. She readily agreed, but she wanted a challenge. She would bring order to the cadets she would instruct and mold them into efficient Starfleet officers. Thats what she was going to do with Bezan Trul, her very first cadet. She had come to know his bio my memory. The 23 year old Trill was a joined male. Bezan was currently the 6th Trul host and even had a quantum mechanics degree from Earth.
She would find her cadet soon enough. She had to deal with the mess that was her quarters first.

Bezan walked onto the boarding Dock after meeting a few friends on the conqueror, and waited for the Hepta to depart. Thinking about the new training mission and where it might lead his mind filled with anxiety, then he had a dizzy spell then began to feel queasy, so he took the hypo spray the doc on the SBC had given him. It worked a treat and he began to feel better.
As he entered the Hepta he gave himself a little smile, not being one to give too much emotion away he quickly stopped and began looking for his instructor.
When he arrived at her quarters after bothering numerous people about the lay of the ship he rang the door.
"Come in" A female voice from the other side of the door came. It sounded as though she was in pain but also trying to be polite at the same time.
" I'm looking for Lydia Anderson ma'am" Bezan said as he entered and saw the flurry of trying to put everything in the right place at the right time. " Is this a good time sir?"

As Daniel made his way on to the hepta, he got his first glimpse of the ship. Stopping to admire the view he began to think of the ship has home.
Quickly coming to his senses he entered the ship, looking around to see if his instructor was here, he found a few members of the crew moving around trying to get the last few things sorted before they departed. Deciding not to bother them, he made his way to his quarters so he could leave his bag there and settle in before trying to find his instructor.
After getting lost several times Daniel had finally found his quarters, quickly dropping his bag on the floor he made his way to the chair to sit down and rest a few moments before getting lost again trying to find his instructor. ~I should have asked for directions sooner, it would have been so much easier~ Daniel thought to himself.
After a while, he slowly got up from the chair and made his way to the counsellor’s office hoping to find Commander Blacard there, this time asking any crew member where he was going so as not to get lost again. Though few of them knew exactly where the office was, he eventually found it as a blonde haired woman quickly glided out of the office. Hoping that meant he was there, Daniel walked into the office to see a man sitting in his chair looking up.
"Umm sir, I am Cadet Biers reporting in, sir" looking slightly nervous

Leo nearly fell over when he heard a voice coming from the doorway. He shuffled about for a moment and then toppled forward onto his desk. He looked up at the cadet with a sheepish look on his face.
"Cadet? Welcome aboard ... er ... I have a cadet this mission?" he asked, almost to himself as he got to his feet.
He absentmindedly ran his hand through his hair and straightened his uniform as he rounded the desk to look over his cadet. He looked like a smart fellow, all squared away and no older than 26 by the look of him with dark hair and a pale complexion.
Leo sighed and considered.
"Daniel Biers? Let me see," he turned back to his desk and turned his computer console toward himself.
Sure enough, there was the official assignment, dated three days prior. Leo blinked. How had he managed to miss that? Then, suddenly, he remembered all that time he spent staring into nothing. He snapped back toward the cadet with a smile.
"I see you've been to university, have your degree," he began, with a little bit of a smile still on his face, "So, why bother joining up? You could have a rather lucrative career elsewhere, why Star Fleet?"

It had been tight! After the last mission, the Hepta was in such a mess that Danny had seriously doubted she could ever be put together again. With the tireless efforts of the crew, supervised by Chief Engineer Commander Seijitsu, they had pulled it off! Not long afterwards, Seijitsu had been transferred to another duty post. Danny regretted it bitterly. Although Seijitsu had only served aboard the Hepta for one mission, Danny considered him a friend and regretted his transfer. He could only hope the new Engineer was of the same calibre.
Danny hadn't yet met Lieutenant Commander Anderson. As Chief of Starship Operations on the Hepta, he had been able to peruse her file and it looked impressive. Serving on Voyager was no mean feat. Danny looked forward to meeting her in the flesh.
Going over the crew manifest, Danny saw there were other new arrivals as well. Petty Officer Llewellyn was scheduled to take on the post of Navigations Officer. Danny would meet her soon enough, as she occupied the console next to his.
Until the Hepta departed, all he could do was meet the new crew and the Cadets, while running the endless pre-flight checks and diagnostics scheduled for each departure. It was the part of his job he loathed most. Every five seconds or so, the computer would identify a glitch, only to discover after hours of checking every single wire in the "glitched" system, that the computer itself needed adjustments. Of course the computer denied this in all six million languages it was capable of producing and, Danny was convinced, sometimes the blasted thing would actually avenge itself by discovering more glitches that weren't actually glitches.
Danny knew Starfleet Engineering would consider thinking of computers as being capable of vengeance ridiculous. They were machines, nothing more. Still, Danny's years of experience had taught him a great deal about the differences between computers in theory and computers in real life. He was convinced there was inevitably something malevolent about them and that computers got some insane, maniacal pleasure out of frustrating Operations officers and Engineers.
"Finally! A break from these infernal diagnostics", Danny muttered, welcoming the distraction. He hoped this mission would be slightly less destructive than the previous one.

Cadet Salvack walked the corridors of the Hepta for the first time carefully noting everything he passes; though many would not know this was his first time on the ship from watching him as he had memorized the schematics weeks ago before he even considered joining star fleet. As he makes his way to his quarters to set up his rack he quietly reflects back on why he chose to join. After settling in Melindros heads for the science labs to report in.

" I'm looking for Lydia Anderson ma'am" Bezan said as he entered and saw the flurry of trying to put everything in the right place at the right time. "Is this a good time sir?"
"I'm not a man, so please don't call me sir," Lydia replied without looking at the person who had just addressed her," and as you can see I'm really busy at the mom...."
Lydia decided that it would be the polite thing to look at the man, but as soon as she did, she felt extremely stupid and rude. She immeidately realized that she must be talking to her very own cadet. Lydia couldn't stop her face from becoming flustered as she began to apologize.
"Sorry, Cadet Bezan Trul, I didn't mean to be so rude," Lydia said as she extended her arms. "I'm new at this, so please bare with me."

Leo considered again and looked from his information on the cadet to Cadet Biers himself.
"A quarter Betazoid as well, good lineage to have as a counselor, but not a requirement," he continued turning to give the cadet his full attention.
He crossed his arms across his chest and squinted at the cadet with part of a smile on his face.
"You have to know how to read people and how to hear what they are not telling you," the commander continued, "You will have the power to remove a Captain from command; therefore, it is very important that you get to know those you are working under and those that you are working for.
"This is your first lesson, Cadet," Leo continued, now catching his stride, "You do not work for Star Fleet and you do not work for any CO. You work for the crew of your starship and you must make your decisions based on what is best for one or more of them. This means laying aside all prejudice and focusing on an individual or several individuals despite who they are, where they come from, or how they have treated you in the past. Do you think you are capable of doing that?"

“Hey, give that back you little…” Xerin said something that in her childhood days would probably have had her grounded for a month, but that in the present situation seemed to have very little affect. Her puppy, Wolf, that she had ‘acquired’ only a couple of months earlier, was growing at an ever increasing rate, and alongside his gaining stature, he was able to double the amount of trouble he could cause. The challenge now would be prizing the phaser out of his mouth without it shooting either one of them.
“Look Wolfy, mmm, yummy bone.” She tried the tested tactic. It had worked before, indeed during the last hectic mission on board the Hepta, but apparently the phaser was too good to resist. If she didn’t get it off him soon, something bad was going to happen. Imagine trying to explain to the Captain that the phaser fire had actually been caused by her wayward companion. That could never go down well.
“Come on little guy, give it back to me.” She pleaded.
“Grrr.” He gave a muffled growl as best he could and clambered up onto the desk using an open drawer as a step. Xerin had to cringe. She was going to be shot by her own dog.
“Please give it back to me?” She tried desperately. The puppy turned and looked at her, as though considering that option.
“Pretty please?” That was the last resort. If she didn’t get it this time, he was going to be puppy pie. Unfortunately that particular mental image was interrupted.
=^=Nikmud to the crew. We will have a briefing in about two hours. Be in the breifing room, and don't be late.=^= Wolf jumped about three feet in the air at the sound, Xerin didn’t even have time to run for cover. He leapt off the desk and careered into the floor, the phaser slipping quickly from his teeth. In seconds the security officer had it in her hand, and had seized the puppy round his middle.
He looked up out of his puddle-like eyes. “You’re going to be the death of me.” She murmured, tucking him under her arm while she poked about amongst her things. There was a clean uniform in there somewhere, and she had two whole hours in which to find it.

"You are a forgetful person, Will," commented Lt. Franz Holtz as he began stocking various items in the storage cabinet. Everything from test tubes to tricorder microanalysis attachments was placed neatly in the cabinet. "I was just talking to one of the nurses down in Sickbay, and she mentioned that you asked permission to use their replicators to help repair the countertops here. But for some reason, you never showed up, and then it turned out engineering had already gotten the job done, so all those poor people in Sickbay kept waiting for you to show up until the nurse in charge at the time decided you weren't going to show up."
"I forgot," muttered William Ford, his artificial left arm gleaming like the wall he was leaning against as he watched Franz stock the cabinet. "Why were you down in Sickbay, anyway?"
"I had a date," replied Franz. An involunatry shiver shook his short black hair. "It didn't turn out so well, because I ended up spilling this odd Bajoran dish all over myself."
"I didn't think there were any Bajorans in Sickbay," William said, almost to himself.
Franz closed the cabinet, finished with his task. "There aren't. She's from England."
At that moment a newcomer entered the room and William strode forward to meet him. "Welcome," he said smiling. "I take it you are Cadet Salvack?"
(Melindros)
"I'm glad you're here," said William. "Let me introduce you to Lt. Holtz. He likes it down here a lot more than he does the Bridge. If you need something, he can find it for you. And he's just finished restocking our supplies, though you probably won't find that particular part of the labs very interesting." William led the way across the room to a counter where two scientists were bent over a three-dimensional map that included Starbase Conqueror and the surrounding area. "Here we have our own little astrology area, though astrometrics is much more perpared for this sort of thing. Here is where we compile all of our sensor data for post-mission analyses, exercise our trigonometry skills, and do all sorts of meanial tasks that astrometrics wants to hand off to us when they get busy. Any questions so far?"

"Yes Sir", replied the Vulcan cadet whom didn't appear to be more than 18 earth years old. Eventhough he was calm and collected like all vulcans you could tell that he was a little nervous and inspired by the size of the area inwhich he would be working ""I'm glad you're here," said William. Lydia Anderson looked at Bezan. Bezan knew she could sense the look on his face was one of despair. A look that interpreted help me please, I'm on a new ship and i am lost. Bezan didn't usually let this amount of emotion show, but anyone who was walking into the unknown is sure to be a little less confident then usual. No matter how tough a nails they are. Bezan sensed the silence had gone on a little longer than expected. "Two Hours" Anderson Said "oohhh... OK Cadet I'll show you around then I'll show you where your quarters are, then we'll go to this badly timed meeting, Then..... then can you help me sort this mess out" all was said in a fashion that there was no time to say or do anything. "Thanks ma'am" Bezan sighed a relief. Then they both exited the door and made their way to the turbo lift. It only took a short while for the lift to arrive at it's destination, hence the name turbo lift. "First stop, the place you shall be working and learning for your stay at the academy. Engineering." Lydia said. Everything seemed to be in a rush. As soon as they entered the room they had left. This was one quick tour, But Bezan as with any good Cadet had to remember things quickly. Next was the canteen, then his quarters, Holodecks, Transporter room, shuttle bays, science lab, Then the most important one The bridge. "Are You OK now Cadet Bezan Trul." Anderson asked "Yes ma'am" Bezan replied "Right now we can attend that meeting and then attend to my quarters" Bezan smiled at Anderson as she walked away "All this before we start work" he said to himself. OOC: Lydia i jumped ahead a bit, also i am not sure what your rank is could you please let me know. Thanks

Alex made sure she was the first in the briefing room, and noticed a few people come in behind her. She smiled happy to know they were being early instead of late. She eyed the captain's position at the table, and wondered how strange it was going to feel. After taking a seat she grabbed the padd with the mission details and looked over them again feeling nervous and yet guilty. ~It wasn't your fault. You didn't hurt him. He will be back sooner than you know it, and then you won't sit in his seats.~ Alex thought. She heard talking among the ranks, and let it continue until all had arrived.
"Welcome, our mission isn't something easy. Hello, Ambassador, nice of you to join us. We are taking the ambassador to Temactes Five where war has broken out. He will be leading what we hope to be peace talks. Our job is to make sure the ambassador gets to the planet safely and gets home safely. Any questions?" Alex said giving it to them cut and dry. She didn't like that the ambassador had arrived late, and thought of telling him. She just let it be a thought though.

Bezan was just entering the briefing room as the mission requirements were read. He let it sink in as he took a seat. It didn't seem right to him. Something was a miss, why would they give a mission as important as this to a bunch of Cadets he thought to himself. Then out of no where, with no will of his own his hand raised in the air.
"Yes Cadet ......" Nikmund said gesturing her hand requesting his name.
"Bezan Trul, Ma'am Cadet Fourth Class Bezan Trul" Bezan replied
"Your question Cadet Trul."
"Why are we doing this mission, We are cadets, And why isn't another star fleet vessel doing this mission?"
"Well their are none available or within range of this star base. Does that answer you question?" she asked out of concern for the cadets question.
"Slightly ma'am but i did just hear you right didn't i? A war zone. we are suppose to be training"

"yes sir, i will be able to" now maintaining a straight face to avoid grinning, suddenly a thought occurred to him ~was i meant to go to the briefing later or not~ so trying not to sound silly asked. "um sir, am i meant to go to the briefing with you or not sir?"

Ambasssador Bryan Kol looked around the base, and didn't like this one bit. He knew things were hard on Starfleet with all the ships being busy, but he had hoped they would havve gotten a bettter crew and ship for this. Cadets! This isn't a time for babysitting. The Ambasssador thought. He headed over to the Hepta, and discovvered it was time for the briefing.
He entered the room late, and saw the look the female captain gave him. Women! You would think this shipp could have a better captain, but no. It had to be a woman. He thought, and took a seat listening. He liked that she was straight to the point on this.
Bryan noticed the cadet's hand, and listened to the question. The captain was about to answer.
"Actually cadet, it isn't quite a war zone. Yes, there have been some skirmishes, but nothing so serious that should give you any alarm. As for why you, well you are training. You need to be trained to handle any and all situations. The Hepta is also the only ship avvailable to go out," the Ambassador replied before the Captain could anser. She gave him a look, but he ignnored it reminding himself to tell her later he was a special dignitary, and expceted to be treeted as such.

Bezan didn't like the answer he got, because it came from the ambassador and not the captain. That didn't feel right to him there was something in his gut telling him to find out the truth. But like the ambassador said he was here to train and this was one situation he would learn how to deal with.
Bezan decided to take the only answer he had for now though, he looked at the captain then at the ambassador then around the room. Nobody was going to back him up so he looked at the captain one last time.
"Thank you sir!" Bezan said still looking the captain in the eye.
As the briefing went on he began to think of different possible reasons why they had to transport the ambassador. Was there a conspiracy? was something going on at the top of the ladder? Maybe the point was a scouting mission for the ambassador? But he didn't believe this story. Something he was unsure why but something told him different.

"Nothing other than what shift will I be working, and what kind of duties can I expect to be given starting out." asked cadet Salvack.
"You'll be working our shift," said William, indicating himself and Franz Holtz. "You'll spend some time both on the Bridge and down here in the labs. At first you'll have more to do than you can handle. Although a lot of what a science officer does is repetative, you've got to keep track of all your different sensors, all the frequencies and wavelengths they pick up, occasionally check in on the labs, cooperate with other departments, particularly Ops, and be ready to give the Captain any information he or she requests on a moment's notice. Vulcans do tend to multitask much more efficiently than humans do," added William with a glance at Franz. "They tend not to be distracted as easily."
Franz rolled his eyes before adding his own advice. "We tend to be less formal down here," he said, guesturing at the lab. "On the Bridge, though, everyone expects proper titles and respect to be observed." He made a face at William.
"Franz does have a point," admitted William with a smile as he walked toward another part of the lab. "But don't listen to him too much. He's a negative person. If you follow me, I'll show you our consoles. We have eight of them in here that you can use at any time. All information in the ship's computer core can be accessed as raw material here, though you'll be restricted from classified material, of course. I don't think you're the type to try and meddle where you shouldn't, but I'll warn you that some cadets have looked where they shouldn't. There was one a few years ago-"
"-Simon M-" began Franz before William cut him off with a glare.
"-who managed to completely bypass every security wall I could design," continued William. "Even our best computer programmers looked like incompetents when compared to him. But even he didn't ever go looking at the material only the CO is supposed to look at... unlike another cadet I taught."
"We think he didn't go looking," muttered Franz darkly, before voicing in an even lower voice what sounded like, "Romulan."
"The point is," said William, "be careful with these things. Even if you know what you're doing. The computer core is the brain of the ship. Without it, we don't move. We might not even breath. There's a reason only scientists and properly trained individuals from other departments, mostly engineering, ever access the compuer core directly. Sorry if I come across as a bit aggressive," he apologised. "I just don't want to take any risks with this particular subject."
A slight beep caught bother the instructor's and the cadet's attention. Franz jumped a little and coughed. "Um, I think I have an appointment in Sickbay, boss," said the young lieutenant. "Permission to leave?"
William failed to assume a sufficiently authoritative guise. "As long as you apologise for me about that replicator problem," he said.
"Already done," replied Franz, already on his way to the door. "I'll see you later, Salvack. Nice meeting you."
"Here's a good officer," said William quietly. "And much more up to date with the newer technology than I am." William gave a sigh as he briefly contemplated his age. Then he realised that although Melindros seemed to be waiting patiently, it was rude to lapse into internal thought like that. "He'll help you with anything down here in the lab," said William quickly. "I think you're free until the meeting Captain Nikmud called. If you want, I can show you the Bridge and introduce you to your station. Or you could retire to your quarters, or visit Ten-Forward or the holodeck."

"Sir if there is time I would enjoy a guided tour of the bridge; I hear you have quite the gift for gab, to coin an earth phrase." "Otherwise I would recommend we head straight to the meeting the Capitan called which I hope it's not too much if I draw the conclusion that it's a welcome aboard/back for the cadets and returning instructors." requested cadet salvack as he politely stands and gestures toward the turbo lift. CDR Ford graciously accepts the entreaties of the young Vulcan cadet; and is mildly surprised that a Vulcan would ask for a guided tour. (ooc: I hate writers block)

Lydia couldn't help but be impressed with her cadet. He was not afraid to voice his concerns and wasn't about to back down just because they were hard questions. She would make sure to answer any of his questions privately. She knew very well that not all answers could be answered in public, especially one that dealt with something as important as peace talks.
The rest of the briefing went by rather quickly, something that Lydia was extremely happy with. She needed to tend to her engine and her cadet. A great thing about joining the Hanson crew was the fact that it was an Intrepid class ship. She had served on Intrepids before and found them to be great.
"Cadet Bezan, please meet me in main engineering in ten minutes," Lydia said as she exited the conference room. She had decided to give her engineering cadet a small test. When she reached engineering she immediately talked to her staff and asked them to fake a buildup of antimatter in the warp core.
Like clockwork, her cadet walked into main engineering and looked around. On cue the alarms went off and everyone got work.
"Cadet, get your butt over here," Lydia ordered," tell me what the problem is and the best way to fix it."

"Ah, yes, there is that," said William, rubbing his chin. "All right, we'll take a look at the Bridge before the meeting. We've got a little time." The two entered the turbolift and William called, "Bridge." The lift rose steadily before expelling both men onto a relatively inactive Bridge. William led the way to the science station and indicated the chair, which Melindros sat down in. "I know you've seen what this looks like before," said William, "but it isn't the same, even in a holodeck." He watched as the Vulcan began to familiarise himself with the console, glancing occasionally to other parts of the Bridge where other young cadets were visiting for the first time.
