In the chaos ensuing Blakus' arrival on the bridge the engineering officer stationed on the bridge reports problems with the warp core. Everything seems to be coming together and time was of the essence.
Ainsleigh's small stature helped her develop what she perceived to be her two greatest assets. Her mind and agility. Chiding herself, ~think about what you know~an idea formed. The cryptobiologist remembered a species that Starfleet had encountered in its early years. They were called "The Companions" by those who met them. Individuals of the species could take material form and often did to interact with other species.
"B'reca, I have an idea," Ainsleigh called out to her friend, "bring the cat." She jumped into the turbolift as Blakus' body teleported to sickbay. McLeod had a flash of disgust at the situation that would allow her to pass a fallen comrade without hesitation.
Once the doors shut, "Engineering," ordered McLeod. Then to Keran, "Please remove the forcefield," Ainsleigh referred to the one surrounding the animal. Adjusting her tricorder to the universal translator and using the information that Captain Kirk and his crew had reported from their encounter with the energy being, "Welcome to the USS Hepta. We could use your help."
There was a momentary blur of shimmering lights and a young (at least that was the feeling McLeod got) Companion floated. Through the translator came the computer's voice in a decidedly childlike voice (confirming Ainsleigh's instinct), "I like it when you hold and scratch me."
So many questions and all Ainsleigh managed to ask, "Are you Q?"
A giggle, "No," as the doors to the lift opened on the main engineering deck.
"How did you come to be here?" inquired Ainsleigh as she continued her questioning.
"I read Q's energy and joined the game," came the youngster's reply.
For lack of better understanding or term, McLeod asked, "What about your parents?" with concern in her voice.
The shimmering creature noticeably changed color spectrum from flecks of pinks and blues to darker tones. Ainsleigh knew she had hit a nerve and simply said, "Its time to go home."
Entering McFarland's officer for help with the plan the pair of cadets found his inert body. Tapping her commbadge /\ Engineering to sickbay, Commander McFarland needs immediate medical attention. /\

John lay face down in his office until the arrival of Cadets McLeod & Keran as the doors to his office opened, John tried to move expecting it to be security but it was almost like he was paralyzed. Whatever had happened to him previously had left him incapacitated. Ensign McLeod knelt down and checked John for a pulse then he heard the call for a medical team.
=^= Engineering to sickbay, Commander McFarland needs immediate medical attention. =^=
John reached out to the young Cadet, dropping his padd containing the necessary algorithms to undo his earlier disabling of the warp core.
“This is all my fault… Cadet McLeod… I attacked Barnes, I pursued Blakus. I disabled the warp core, I just wasn’t strong enough to resist. Check the plasma flow to the core, I believe it is steadily increasing to the point of causing a breach. And you’ll need this…”
(Tag McLeod/Keran)
John tried to pass his padd to the shocked Cadets, but he couldn’t reach it, as he slumped back defeated by the limitations of his broken body. He didn’t know what the Cadets must be thinking as he fell into unconsciousness to await the arrival of medical team and a security team. John was only left hoping it wasn’t too late!

T'Brel entered engineering with aides in tow. The Vulcan doctor quickly scanned MacFarland before signaling her staff to place him on the stretcher. She tapped her commbadge, /\Two to transport to sickbay/\ In seconds the shimmering lights of the transporter dematerialized the two leaving the rest of the medical team to return by foot.
A stray comment by a medtech alerted the two science cadets to the fact that people all over the ship were being affected by this. On top of it all, their Captain was sick.
Not having time to waste McLeod grabbed the highest ranking engineer she saw, "You, here is the Commander's PADD. It details an imminent warp core breach and how it was done. FIX IT!", her nerves allowed the last to come out stronger then intended.
"Is there anything you can do?" Ainsleigh inquired of the child companion.
With childlike glee, "I can swim.", and the creature surrounded the core.
Turning to B'reca and really wanting throw her hands in the air and say ~things are going to hades and I think the only command staff still standing is K'ratek~ she instead, "I don't trust the comsystem. I think our only hope is the slingshot method," tapping Blakus' PADD indicating his calculations. "I will stay here in engineering and follow the warp core repairs and integrate the companions energy into our systems."
Keran nodded and added her own evaluation of the situation.
"We will need weapons, but we can't power them until the last second. Park can handle that. Also right before we power up the shields we must transport Admiral Hope off the ship."
Right before Keran headed for the bridge, "Good luck," Ainsleigh called out. "Don't trust that the walls don't have ears!"
McLeod turned her attention over to the engineer and heard him cuss under his breath about the damage that the CEO had done.
Asking the superfluous, "How's it going?" only to receive a curt answer in return. Undaunted, "How long?"
"At least six hours!"
"Get more help, whatever you need. We go in an hour," Cadet 2nd class McLeod found her command voice.
Calling the child over to her and gettting a petulant whine as the entity floated over. Ainsleigh started to explain to the child what they needed.

As soon as McLeod's eyes lit up with inspiration, B'reca allowed the other Cadet to take command. She followed McLeod's orders to remove the force field from around the cat, trusting that the human knew what she was doing, and a second later she was glad that she had done so. It seemed that McLeod had solved the puzzle - the cat was not a weapon or Q himself, but a life form in its own right, and one that could help them. B'reca was thankful that nothing had been done to harm the being before it had the chance to help them, and a little ashamed that she'd just suggested that if it came down to them or it, she'd sacrifice the life of the feline being.
McLeod's instructions racing through her head, she rushed to the bridge, heading straight for the nearest terminal. "Park, we need weapons!" she shouted as she plugged Blakus's PADD into the terminal and began downloading his calculations. She hoped that Park was not too proud to put aside his animosity towards her in order to obey her instruction, as she had done for McLeod.
<Tag Park>
She may not be an engineer, but even B'reca could tell that power to the warp core was slowly increasing.
"I'm going to need someone on shields and someone else ready to transport, with a lock on Admiral Hope," she said, aware that all eyes were on the Klingon Cadet who'd burst onto the bridge and started giving out orders. "I'll control the slingshot manoeuvre from this console." Seeing Commander K'ratak, she turned to him and said,
"McLeod has figured everything out, Sir. She's found a way to use the cat to boost power to the warp core without harming it. Please, for the sake of the Hepta and any chance she has of returning home, trust us."

Park wasn't sure what to think first Cadet blakus was staggering thought the ready room doors then he was passed out on the floor. As the medical staff took him away park knew he would be ok ~Great we have warp lets get out of here.
As Park returned to the tactical station re saw some thing wrong with the warp core power was dropping all over the ship. Turning to the Commander "Sir, there is a ship wide power loss cause unknown." Turning to the engineering console which was still online Park saw an overload in the warp core. Again addressing the Commander "Sir, There is an overload of the warp core warp drive is offline."
Tapping his combadge "Bridge to Commander McFarland, Sir there is an over load of the warp drive." As the Lt.Commander who had come to collect Cadet blakus. She reported the Chief engineer was unconscious just like the Cadet.
Getting a Comcall from Cadet Keran Park, we need weapons. Tapping his combadge he responded " Trying B'reca i have no power with the warp drive power surging. I'll have weapons in a few minutes."

T’Bel arrived to engineering to find pandemonium, ‘well what do I expect they are human’ moving over to the Commander she feel to her knees more quickly then she had needed to. Cursing herself for her haste she began scanning the engineer, “he is in the same state as the cadet” turning to face a near by medic she continued “take him to sickbay I will ensure everyone else down here are fine and then report to sickbay” not given the medic a chance to respond T’Bel moved in to engineering and began scanning for anyone showing similar symptoms to that of both of the engineers.
-- Meanwhile in Sickbay --
Simon woke to find one of the nurses floating over him, groggily Simon began to try to remember what had just happened “Nurse, why am I on a biobed” Simon was sure he would not have decided to take a nap on a biobed but he needed to be sure. “Sorry doctor, but Lieutenant Commander T’Bel ordered that you were to remain here until she had ensured that you had not been too badly injured”. Simon looked at the young nurse and smiled, “Have you not checked to make sure I was ok while I was out?” Simon questioned politely, the nurse nodded as if it were no big deal, “Then why have I been kept unconscious?!” the nurse jumped at the snappy question thrown at her, “um …um … well I ah …doctor T’Bel said you were to stay asleep until she had cleared you” the nurse looked nervous and she was right to as Simon’s temper exploded “AND WHO IS IN CHARGE OF THIS SICKBAY, IF I WAS NOT IN ANY MEDICAL DANGER THAT MEANS ME!!”
Everyone in sickbay that were awake immediately turned to see what the shouting was about, as the doctors and nurses realised that it was their chief shouting they rushed to get back to work just in case he began shouting at everyone. Simon immediately ignored the nurses pleads that he should remain in bed until T’Bel returned ‘well she has finally done it, I will have that third pip of hers for this’. When Simon was ready he left sickbay and headed for the Bridge.
Arriving on the bridge Simon walked over to K’ratak to see what was happening. “Commander, may I ask what is happening? it seems a lot of the crew are acting very strangely at the moment” Simon waited for a response while listening in on Cadet Park attempting to get power to the weapons ‘so we are under attack I guess’.

Things seemed to be moving along with in the hour they might be home. at least thats what he thought until he saw a flash of light and Q.
Looked was dressed as a star fleet captain again but his uniform was more current. Looking down at Commander K'ratak
" Oh you don't think I'm going to let you leave before the fun gets begins do you"
Looking at Q " Q I'm getting very tired of of this why don't you just tell us what you want for a change"
" Where would the fun be in that now bone head. You not going anywhere right now at least not with out you warp corp. " then with a snap Q was holding the Hepta warp corp.
Looking at Q and trying not to get angry " Q we need that to stay alive and you know it, battery power wont last long"
" Don't worry my dear Commander K'ratak , I made sure to power you those things needed. Your just not going anywhere for awhile. Besides you have two people aboard this ship who need to meet for this little game. I'd suggest you get the Romulan admiral together with Admiral Drew before I do"
Just like that he was gone again tapping his combadge before engineering could report the theft of the warp corp " I' already know the warp corp is gone yet we still have some main power. I want a meeting of all sections heads and cadets in one hour"
Tapping his com badge again " Admiral Drew please report to the bridge Q has just taken our Warp Corp and left alittle warning"

T'Brel entered engineering with aides in tow. The Vulcan doctor quickly scanned MacFarland before signaling her staff to place him on the stretcher. She tapped her commbadge, /\Two to transport to sickbay/\ John was beamed to Sickbay and placed on a biobed then given a muscle relaxant from a hyper spray. Before being knocked unconscious by another hypospray to ensure that he slept, John could recall a nurse saying he had the same symptoms as Andae before he blacked out…
~~~~~~~~ 2 Hours Later ~~~~~~~~~~
John opened his eyes to find himself staring at the pink ceiling of Sickbay, John and K’ratak had redecorated as a joke on Doc Barnes. The good Doctor had managed to redecorate it all but the pink ceiling, John chuckled maybe Barnes liked it. His chuckle had attracted the attentions of a nearby nurse. She tilted her head slightly, surprised that he was awake so soon.
“Commander, what are you doing awake you need rest!” She instructed, pushing John back down on the bed.
“I do not need rest. I need to know what’s happening in Engineering, I am dismissing myself from your care.” John retorted.
“Commander, I’m afraid that is not possible under Doctor T’Brel’s orders.”
“Where is Barnes? Does he know about this?” Before the nurse could reply John continued… “I am the Chief Engineer of this vessel and it is important that I get to Engineering immediately.”
“I must insist you remain here Commander or I will inform security.” The nurse replied as a last resort.
“Call security, I am out of here nurse!” John got off his biobed and almost stumbled but made for the door, he wasn’t sure if the nurse would inform security but it didn’t matter, he had to get to Engineering.
Stepping off the turbolift John walked along the corridor before entering Engineering, John hugged the bulkhead and took a deep breathe before entering. He had a monster headache and was feeling queasy but he wasn’t going to show it. John entered to find that same vulcan doctor monitoring his Engineers.
“Excuse me Doctor, but I don’t think your presence in Engineering is necessary any longer.”
“Commander, you should be in a biobed in sickbay what do you think you are doing?” The old vulcan replied.
“I’m doing my job as you should be.” John answered as he barged passed the vulcan, much to her dismay. John noticed Cadet McLeod standing over a nearby console punching command after command into a nearby console.
“Cadet McLeod, Status report!” John ordered as he felt his knees weaken he slumped against a nearby bulkhead as casually as he could to conceal his weakness.
As John was standing the warp core disappeared, What the hell? In all John’s years as an Engineer he had never seen anything like it. John tapped his comm. badge on instinct.
=^= Engineering to Bridge, the warp core has vanished… =^= Before John could continue Commander K’ratak cut him off.
=^=I' already know the warp corp is gone yet we still have some main power. I want a meeting of all sections heads and cadets in one hour=^=
John turned to McLeod and shrugged his shoulders, “Any ideas Cadet?”
Surprised to see Commander McFarland in engineering, McLeod started to report the status of the warp core and their plans when the core disappeared.
"I believe Q isn't done with us," Ainsleigh responded. Then out of curiosity and possible need, "What happened to you?"
The entity came over to the young cadet and petulantly complained about the loss of the warp core. Catching the commander's look, she shrugged, "Long story," and the being returned to its cat persona and Ainsleigh picked it up and began scratching the young companion to its obvious delight.
"I believe Q isn't done with us," Ainsleigh responded. Then out of curiosity and possible need, "What happened to you?"
John paused for a moment, it was a fair question… as he pondered his answer, he carefully watched as Ainsleigh conversed with some sort of entity before the entity transformed into a cat. John raised his eyebrow slightly as Ainsleigh shrugged. "Long story," John smiled as the young cadet amused the cat.
“Well mine is also a long story, I woke up on a biobed staring at the pink ceiling wondering how I got there and all I could think about was the warp core and preventing a breach. I shot up out of the biobed, much to the horror of a nearby nurse who tried to detain me and threatened to inform Security. I respectfully discharged myself and made my way down here, I have one hell of a headache though.” John lauged.
“I can’t believe Q took the warp core!” Making light of the situation seemed to make him more comfortable with it.
“I assume you managed to correct the plasma flow to the warp core? Its curious according to this console we still have significant power across the Hepta. Any theories on what we tell K’ratak this sort of scuppers the slingshot plan!”
(Tag McLeod)
Before Ainsleigh could reply, John leant back on the nearby bulkhead and slouched to the floor. His legs were feeling heavy and he needed to rest.
Post by Andae Blakus on Nov 18, 2007 11:47:51 GMT
Cadet Blakus sat perched on the ruined building once more. He just sat there, head in hands, looking across the grey plain. Slowly he realised what had happened. "No, no!!!" he yelled, with all that effort of escaping from sickbay he was now likely back in there. This wasn't what Blakus needed, he needed to get back to the action, now.
"Q, I've had enough of this." He waited a few seconds. That was the time Q normally took to answer his calls, but this time there was nothing. Blakus resigned himself to being stuck in this world for the time being. What was it that Q had told him? That this world was no less real than the 'real' world? Blakus decided to test that theory, he jumped up and leaped off the building in what seemed like a moment of folly. Amazingly he survived and forward-rolled to standing. Hmm OK, he thought. The cadet took off towards the woods.
He crossed the forest border and entered the solemn cracked land, it was heavy with the feel of autumn and was strangely warm. The light of the pale orange sky filtered through the trees and bathed the forest floor in easy orange light. But now was not the time to take in the surroundings. If 8472 were here, the Hepta in some form or another was also here. Just as Blakus thought this Q appeared to him once more. He stood on a broken, dry log next to a standing tree. "We reach the final cut Cadet, the end game!" Q announced this to him in a loud clear voice and jumped down from the log.
"Q!" Blakus shouted, he wasn't happy, "Q, I want you to repair my body right now."
"Temper cadet, temper." Q chided.
Blakus huffed and then realised that shouting demands at Q wasn't going to get him anywhere. The only way he could think of at this time was to try and reason with the being, "Q," he started after taking a breath, "You said I could influence the real world from here, in this world, your metaphysical world. So what is happening in the real world right now, what must I do here?" At this Q held up a small object, it was... what was it? He approached Cadet Blakus and showed it to him. "Hepta's warp core, is that actually it?" Q nodded and grinned a sick grin. "Put it back!" cried Blakus.
"Why would I want to do that?" Q admonished.
"I'm not going to waste words on you Q, you know quite well that the warp core doesn't just power the engines it also provides power for the whole ship. We won't last long without it."
"I am not yet ready to end this game as you call it cadet. You're going to have figure this out by yourself." Q had raised his voice, through with being playful it seemed. And with that he disappeared once more. It was the last thing Blakus needed, althought he was relieved that the entity wouldn't be getting on his back for at least a few more minutes... His thought was interrupted by a movement from over a rise in the woodland. There was something rustling the bushes just over the rise which was only about 10 metres away, but still out of Blakus' direct sight.
All of a sudden, an 8472 pounced over the rise and crouched in front of the concave area under it. It stared Blakus direct in the eyes. He was transfixed by its gaze, the creature let out an ear-piercing shriek that rent the air. It seemed to visibly crack the substance of the air itself, akin to the shattering of glass. Blakus turned away and made a foolish attempt to shield himself as it leapt at him. He heard something strange followed by the sound of something hitting the floor, already broken and dry twigs snapped and dead leaves flew in the air, Blakus turned to look. To his utter shock, a prone Commander McFarland lay there on the ground. Blakus' mind worked quick and he realised that the real life McFarland that he had briefly seen had been controlled by an 8472. This was the metaphysical manifestation of the 8472 leaving McFarland's body.
Blakus tried to wake him, to some success. But his instructor's body seemed almost ethereal, non-corporeal. "What the.." Blakus muttered to himself. He tried talking to the Commander, but he seemed not to hear him. Occasionally for a second McFarland seemed to be aware of his surroundings but then he would lapse back again. "Perhaps he's fading in and out of this reality, barely conscious in the real world perhaps." Blakus realised that he was talking to himself, but he felt that he needed to in order to sort out this jumbled mess of thoughts and events.
As John dropped down to the floor, sitting with his back to the wall and desperately trying to think of a way out of this predicament Ainsliegh stared and opened her mouth to speak just as John thought he heard his cadet, Andae.
“Sorry Cadet, this may sound mad but I think I just heard Andae.” John stated quite calmly,
(Tag McLeod)
John closed his eyes to find himself staring at some sort of forest and the red sky above, where was he? John heard Andae muttering to himself, "Perhaps he's fading in and out of this reality, barely conscious in the real world perhaps." John couldn’t move, wherever he was dreaming about he was in a state of paralysis similar to the state he was in when he arrived in Sickbay.
“Blakus is that you?” John spoke out loud, conscious of the fact Cadet McLeod would be standing over him thinking him crazy.
(Tag Blakus)
John briefly opened his eyes and tried to quickly explain, “I can see Blakus when I close my eyes, he is in a forest. It must have something to do with his present condition.” John concluded, “And I’m not delusional Cadet, maybe a little tired but not delusional.”
“How long until the briefing for department heads and cadets?”
(Tag McLeod)
John closed his eyes once more to attempt to interact with the Blakus he could see, perhaps Blakus needed help. John’s head was telling him he was delusional but in his heart he felt guilt for Blakus’s predicament and wanted to do everything he could to help him perhaps this was all a manifestation of his sub-conscious.
OOC: Don't apologise Blakus, there is nothing wrong with long posts, it gives everyone else more insight to your character and more to play off of.
McFarland slumped down the wall and Ainsleigh reached for her commbadge. A voice in her head stopped her from paging sickbay.
Wheedling, "Un uh...," Q dragged out, "So quick to pass your problems on to someone else."
"Q", came out of her with vengeance.
McFarland looked like death, pale, drawn and clammy. She knew he spoke the truth about seeing Andae or Q would not have intervened.
"Commander," McLeod tried to keep his attention. He continued in and out for moments then inquired about the meeting.
"20 minutes Sir," she responded. Still holding the cat, Ainsleigh placed an arm behind McFarland and tried to give him support.
The officer that she'd originally handed McFarland's PADD to came over and Ainsleigh prevented him from calling for assistance, "Just help me get him to his feet." With the engineer, Lt. Jackson, on one side and McLeod on the other, they managed to get the Commander to his feet. He still used the wall for support, but his eyes became more lucid.
Wanting to ask what Blakus' had said but not wanting to tax his strength, Ainsleigh kept her mouth shut. He would inform her when necessary.
"Can you make it?" she asked McFarland thinking of calling for the transporter but not wanting to alert sickbay or for that matter any others of the CEOs condition.
With a slight wave of his hand, he indicated he would walk. Looking at Jackson, "Help me get him to the turbolift." The man virtually carried the weakened commander to the turbolift. As the doors opened, McLeod told Lt. Jackson, "We will be getting the core back. Make sure everything is a go. We may not have the luxury of time.".
When the doors swished shut, "Bridge," McLeod ordered. Then to the CEO, "you should be in sickbay."
The cat purred.
“Blakus is that you?”
Andae Blakus was shook out of his deep thought. "Yes, Commander." He was so glad that he had someone reasonable to talk to in this dream, and was desperate to keep him in it. "It's me Cadet Blakus" he told McFarland. McFarland said something more, but Blakus couldn't hear it. The voice sounded echoey and distant, like somebody shouting down a long tunnel to someone on the other side. McFarland remained lying on the ground, Blakus reached out his hand to touch him and was unsurprised when his hand went through him as if he wasn't there.
"Commander if you can hear me, I'm going to go and find Q, I'll be back, sir." He left McFarland where he was, and wasn't sure if he would still be there when he got back.
<Tag McFarland>
Blakus didn't realise until then that his last words did not make much sense. He was going to find Q, how was he going to do that??? Blakus scrambled over the log Q had been standing on and walked along quickly for a few minutes. He stopped when he was faced with a dip in the land, it dropped away and after about 20 metres rose up to slightly above the level he was at at the moment. What he saw on the opposite bank worried him, it worried him greatly.
On the other bank there was a long line of Species 8472 creatures. Blakus whitened very slightly and took a step back, he dived into a bush on the left and watched the 8472s. They're just standing there!, he thought. Waiting for us to make a move... Blakus knew in an instant that they were the crew of the 8472 bioships, just waiting, waiting for the Hepta to make a run for it. Of course that was no longer possible, Q was holding all of the cards. One of those cards was the Hepta's warp core.
B'reca slammed her fist into the console. "Ghuy'cha'!"
First she'd heard Park say that it would take a couple of minutes to get weapons online, then people had started shouting about the disappearance of the warp core. Their plan was falling apart around them, and there was only one entity to blame.
"Temper, temper," a smug voice whispered in her ear as the console sparked indignantly at her. B'reca's first instinct was to turn around and punch whoever was taunting her, but she knew who it was, and punching an incorporeal being wouldn't do any good.
Tapping her comm. she opened a channel to Cadet McLeod. "Ainsleigh, Q is trying to make me lose my temper," she said. "I think he's worried that we might succeed. Doesn't that mean we're on the right track?"
<Tag McLeod>
"I'm coming to assist," she told the human. "There's nothing I can do up here that can't be done by someone else."
"Yes, Commander, It's me Cadet Blakus"Andae told McFarland
Andae’s voice sounded faint, John was drifting back into Main Engineering his eyes flickered only for a moment as he caught the last words from Blakus. "Commander if you can hear me, I'm going to go and find Q, I'll be back, sir." Andae said before John heard his feet running away, the noise of each step getting quieter as Andae sprinted ever further in pursuit of Q.
“Be careful Blakus.” Was all John could muster to say before opening his eyes to find himself sat on the floor with his back against the wall with Cadet McLeod staring down at him.
"20 minutes Sir," Ainsleigh said very professionally, answering John’s earlier query about the meeting with Commander K’ratak. Ainsleigh wrapped her arm around John’s back and slowly propped him up against the wall. John noted Lieutenant Jackson, one of his duty Engineers appear and just as quickly the young man reached for his comm. badge but he was stopped by the young Cadet.
"Just help me get him to his feet."Ainsleigh ordered, John nodded as the pair managed to get John to his feet as he placed his arm onto the wall for support. "Can you make it?" Ainsleigh asked John as the Chief Engineer simply waved her off to try and walk. John heard Ainsleigh request that Jackson assist on getting him to the turbolift.
When the doors swished shut, "Bridge," Ansleigh ordered. Then turning to John, "you should be in sickbay." The cat simply purred in agreement.
John looked at the Cadet closely, “And you should have informed sickbay of my condition.” John smiled, “Blakus said something about finding Q and that he would be back. Whatever he is doing, he is doing it on his own.”
(Tag McLeod)
John pushed himself off the turbolift wall and managed to stand of his own free will. “How do I look Cadet? I don’t look too ill do I? I’m going for the stressed look.”
Before Ainsleigh could answer, John simply said:
“Thank you for helping me down in Engineering, I wont forget it.”
(Tag McLeod)
Stepping out onto the Bridge it was as hectic as John had remembered previously with Officers running from side to side trying to discover where the warp core had gone. Security was keeping an eye on Species 8472 and K’ratak was trying to keep control over everything else, sometimes K’ratak amazed him he had a feel for leadership and had the respect of his peers and it showed.
Suddenly, John caught a distraught looking Cadet approach.
"You don't look too pleased Cadet, whats wrong?"
Simon was shocked when he saw T’Bel walk onto the Bridge, almost as shocked as she was to see him there. “Well Doctor I see you are up and around, I have seen you test results so I will not be carting you back to sickbay, but I need to have a word with you quickly on an urgent matter.” Simon looked at T’Bel she rarely joked about most things, “Ok but after that I need serious words with you over all this.” As they moved to one side of the bridge T’Bel brought him up to speed on Commander McFarland’s situation. Worried that she may be right Simon collected the Padd she had on the results of the last test that she had performed, “Are you sure that you did not make a mistake?” Simon did not want to start taking drastic action unless he had to “Yes doctor, the readings were taken just before Commander McFarland left sickbay.” Simon re-read the information before looking to the turbo lift, Simon noted that Commander McFarland looked a little stressed, walking over Simon half forcibly cut between the two cadets and the commander to move him into the turbo lift. “Commander McFarland, may I have a word.” John nodded after he regained his composure Simon continued “John, I need to check something, if I find what I fear I may find, then I will need you to come with me to sickbay.” As John argued but eventually allowed Simon to do his tests Simon took the tricorder in his hand and began to scan for the anomaly that T’Bel had detected. After a few moments he noted that not only was John showing signs of extreme neural activity but it looked like he was also seeing or hearing things. “Ok, Commander, would you please come with me to Sickbay, I need to run some more tests.”
<Tag McFarland>
Following John out of the turbo lift Simon’s temper blew “Commander McFarland, it is in my medical opinion that you are no longer fit for duty and hence I am relieving you from active duty, you second will take over. You will report immediately to Sickbay and remain there until I say otherwise, failure to do so will be considered breaking a direct order and shall result in you losing your position in star fleet, is this understood?” Simon had never thought he would ever have to say those words but John had forced his hand.
<Tag McFarland>
“I am afraid I am giving you no choice in the matter, Security escort Commander McFarland to Sickbay, should he decide to not want to go to Sickbay you will take him to his quarters where he will remain.” Simon knew he would need to get Commander K’ratak’s approval but under the present circumstance Simon should be listened to.
<Tag McFarland>
Turning to the two cadets present he shrugged, Simon made his over to where Commander K’ratak was standing trying to get something out of one of the junior officers unaware of the minor power struggle that had just occurred “Commander K’ratak” as the Klingon commander turned around and realised who it was he looked as if he was going say something but Simon stopped him “Sir, as of this moment I have relieved Commander McFarland from the active duty roster under Star Fleet Medical Order 104, Section C.=/\= Simon prepared for the backlash but for the moment the orders of Star fleet were in Simon’s favour.
"You don't look too pleased Cadet, whats wrong?"
Before B'reca could answer, Dr Barnes appeared on the bridge and had McFarland removed from active duty. It was true that the Commander had appeared stressed, but this wasn't the time to be confining officers to sickbay. The ship was full of Cadets with no idea what they were doing, and they needed direction.
"Dr Barnes, we need the Commander right now," she objected. "Our only chance of getting back to our own time has been stolen and it is imperative that we find a way to make Q return it."
<Tag Barnes>
"Please just let me speak to him," she insisted. "If you won't let him out of sickbay, I'll go down there and talk to him myself." Turning on her heel, she left the bridge once more, all of her energy concentrated on trying to keep a lid on her anger. It infuriated her that she couldn't control the situation, that she wielded no power here. What made it worse was that the true source of her frustration - Q - was unavailable to take her rage out on.
"Commander," she greeted McFarland, who looked as happy to be confined to bed as she was to be at Q's mercy. Getting straight to the point, she explained, "We need to get back that warp core. From what I understand, you lost control of your actions for a period of time, and under the circumstances I can only assume that Q had something to do with it. If he was controlling you... if there's some connection you share with him..." Sitting down on the nearest unoccupied bed, she looked down at the floor and said, "I know there must be some way of getting the warp core back, but I can't see it. I'm sorry."
Park worked with the team in engineering to get more then partial main power. Looking at the commander park said "Sir this is no good i can't get more then 25 % of main power back and reserves are down to 85%, But i have an idea. I know the doctor relived Commander McFarland and confined him to sickbay but the cat we have down in engineering may be the way." leaving the tactical station and bring a padd where the Commander sat in the command area.
Turning it over to him the Commander saw what park had on the padd. The cat was showing the same power a federation warp core yet more powerful. "Sir if we put the cat into the dilithium chamber and harness it energy we will have the same power as the Hanson-B."
As he sees the commander thinking about it Park returns to his station. Running scans for the location of the Bio-ships Park sees they are not moving " Sir the Bio-Ships are not moving they are just outside the Hanson's Weapons range."
<Tag K'ratak>
As park sees some more power returning now power is up to 45% of normal.Tapping his combadge Bridge to Cadet Mcleod Can we put the cat into the crystal chamber see if we can use it as a sub power supply. The cat is showing the same kind of energy as a warpcore."
<Tag Mcleod>
Also tapping his combadge again "Bridge to Sickbay, Commander McFarland is Cadet keran by you Sir I need her to show you something. The cat we have on board is emanating the energy of a warp core i need to know if the ship can handle this kinda power.The power registers as powerful as the Hanson's warp core."
The Bridge
“Commander McFarland, may I have a word.” John nodded after he regained his composure Simon continued “John, I need to check something, if I find what I fear I may find, then I will need you to come with me to sickbay.” John was left wondering what Barnes could be looking for and after a few bleeps from his medical tricorder he gave John a grave look…
“Ok, Commander, would you please come with me to Sickbay, I need to run some more tests.”
“I don’t think so Simon, this is not the time to be dragging me to Sickbay. The stakes are too high, it can wait. What does the tricorder say?”
John reached for Simon’s tricorder but the Doctor stepped back and John just folded his arms and turned on his heel and proceeded onto the Bridge. John could hear Simon shadowing his every move, before the Doctor raised his voice, loud enough for everyone to hear.
“Commander McFarland, it is in my medical opinion that you are no longer fit for duty and hence I am relieving you from active duty, your second will take over. You will report immediately to Sickbay and remain there until I say otherwise, failure to do so will be considered breaking a direct order and shall result in you losing your position in star fleet, is this understood?”
“Simon, I have already told you as a friend to a friend to let it lie. I am feeling fine, a monster headache but that is all. My presence is needed here for the sake of us all, I will not waste my time in sickbay. Are you sure you are feeling okay?” John responded quietly. “I am afraid I am giving you no choice in the matter, Security escort Commander McFarland to Sickbay, should he decide to not want to go to Sickbay you will take him to his quarters where he will remain.”
“Simon this is unnecessary, why are you doing this? Let go of me!” John yelled as he was escorted from the Bridge by two security officers. As John was escorted passed the cadets, he shook his head there wasn’t much he could do. John could hear Cadet Keran try to argue his case.
"Dr Barnes, we need the Commander right now," she objected. "Our only chance of getting back to our own time has been stolen and it is imperative that we find a way to make Q return it."
To Sickbay...
As the turbolift doors closed, John tried in vain to order the Officers to release him. “I am your superior officer, release me immediately! That is a direct order!”
It was to no avail as he was escorted to sickbay and placed on a biobed with the guards stationed outside. John’s only hope was for Commander K’ratak to revoke the order. Just as John had given up hope Cadet Keran entered sickbay.
"Commander," Getting straight to the point, B’reca explained, "We need to get back that warp core. From what I understand, you lost control of your actions for a period of time, and under the circumstances I can only assume that Q had something to do with it. If he was controlling you... if there's some connection you share with him..."
John nodded mutely before responding as B’reca sat in the biobed next to his.
"I know there must be some way of getting the warp core back, but I can't see it. I'm sorry."
“None of this is your fault cadet, none of us have been able to work it out its not just you and I appreciate your attempt to save me from the shackles of Doc Barnes and sickbay.” John smiled briefly then continued…
“As for a link to Q, earlier in Engineering when I closed my eyes in thought I saw Andae. I don’t know if it was my subconscious or if I saw where he was trapped but it seemed very real. I couldn’t move at all but I could communicate with Andae he said something about pursuing Q.”
John turned to B’reca, the young klingon probably thought him mad, John looked across at the biobed with Andae in it he hoped his cadet would win the battle of his mind with Q.
(Tag Blakus)
“What do you think would happen if we authorised a site to site transport to the briefing room. I feel like I should be there.”
(Tag Keran)
After B’reca responded their conversation was cut abruptly short by Cadet Park’s comm.
=^= Bridge to Sickbay, Commander McFarland is Cadet keran by you Sir I need her to show you something. The cat we have on board is emanating the energy of a warp core i need to know if the ship can handle this kinda power. The power registers as powerful as the Hanson's warp core. =^=
John tapped his comm. =^= I’d need to have a look at the reading myself but I know Cadets McLeod and Keran have been looking into it. There are of course the ethical implications of using a sentient lifeform as a power source. =^=
John finished and ushered B’reca to respond and awaited Parks response.
As park heard his response he tapped his combadge to respond "Well sir if you can i can transfer my scans to the doctors office, Or Cadet Keran can transfer it to a padd for your review. As for ethical implications i believe Q put the cat here for use to use."
<Tag Mcfarland>
"Ok Sir Transferring now." Park said as he pressed the commands he sent the data to the Commander. Just as he did Park felt weird, Like he was leaving his body yet he was knew he was still on the ship. Seeing a Field of white at first then he was back on earth at starfleet command. Looking around he saw Q as a fleet admiral.
"Q, Damn it what is going on.First to target a Cadet then the Chief engineer now me who's next." Q responded "Didn't you forget the doctor, But no it wasn't me for your engineer. But i do admit to the Cadet and doctor." As park walked with him around the grounds of the academy park started to understand Q's affection for the human species.
As he worked to understand Q's reasons for bringing him here looked at Q. "Listen Q i understand your trying to help it i think, But i need to return to my ship and assist in getting it back on line."
Q looked at him in intrigue and respect " Ok Cadet i will inform you of how to save your ship, But not just yet just know that the cat is the key. Has anyone interacted with the cat yet?" And with that Park found himself back on the bridge of the Hepta. Yet he was looking at the intercom grid and Commander K'ratak looking down at him.
As he hears the Commander call for the doctor Park says "Sir, I don't need the doctor, Q took me to another plain of existence and told me something i just can't remember." Park stood up and looked at the console and saw his data was sent to the Doctors office and was downloaded to a padd.
Thinking to him self as Doctor Barnes exited the turbolift. Knowing the doctor was going to take him off the bridge looking at the tactical station he said " Doctor i know what your doing here but we are short staffed here so if you don't mind scan me here sir, I am working on remembering what Q told me he has given me the answer to our problems.
<Tag Barnes and K'ratak>
Just then he hears a little voice ~ By the way Picard never did that to me." Thinking back to Q ~" I am not Captian Picard!"
"I told them that you are indisposed of at the moment," Elal replied. "And since you were in the ready room making a transmission to Admiral Hope, I did not have to lie."
It was only a matter of time, though, before Commander K'ratak would not accept excuses for why Captain Manto could not come aboard. Per the Prime Directive, the Commander knew he couldn't travel to the Hanson either. It would be a stalemate, but hopefully he didn't realize he was being stalemated.
"With their warp-core missing, undoubtedly a trick by Q, I do not think they are going to be going anywhere." It was the Vulcan's best attempt at a quip. Konal laughed at the try, giving the Vulcan whatever pleasure he received out of being funny.
"That got me to thinking, Commander," Konal had been coming to an unpleasant outcome of all of this. "If Q is involved, which it seems he is as the Hepta's members have been saying, then they will probably be traveling back to the past. Q has never stranded anyone that we know of in the future." It was a reasonable assumption.
"The bioship is not dumb. They'll come to this conclusion eventually, and if so, will fire on the Hepta. I think we need to recall Admiral Hope."
"They will be suspicious if we were to do that."
Elal was right. Konal thought about it some more. "In her last transmission, she said she had used her cloaking device to administer the neural agents we sent to them. The Doctor said they would only wipe the memories of the crew, and there was only a three percent chance of permanent damage."
"A necessary risk." Elal said matter-of-factly.
"Unfortunately, yes. She was going to stick around to be a first hand witness that they don't find her modifications. Under the current circumstances though, we cannot risk that."
The Vulcan commander responded to the thought, completing it. "We could just beam herself straight here. They aren't able to get a lock on her currently. They'll never know if she is missing unless they physically see her disappear. Since she has been invisibly leaving her quarters without being noticed, I'm sure we can get her out of there without anyone being the wiser." Elal was already at the science console making the appropriate calculations.
"The final decision lies with the Admiral." Konal was not going to beam her out of there without her permission. The situation was growing more and more critical.
"Elal, look at the bio ship. Did it just change color, or is it my aging eyes?" The ship went from a tan hue to a pinkish glow. "Are they powering up weapons?"
"I cannot tell. I am unfamiliar with the readings I am receiving."
"I'll contact Admiral Hope right away."
Konal made her way quickly to her ready room to contact the S'reena Hope.
"What do you think would happen if we authorised a site to site transport to the briefing room. I feel like I should be there.”
"I would be honoured to assist in your... what would you call it? Prison break?" B'reca smiled at the Commander. She felt a little guilt for undermining the doctor's authority, but in this situation she didn't think that he was right to confine McFarland against the Commander's will.
=^= I’d need to have a look at the reading myself but I know Cadets McLeod and Keran have been looking into it. There are of course the ethical implications of using a sentient lifeform as a power source. =^=
Tapping her own badge, B'reca added, "Cadet Park, this is Keran. I agree that the lifeform shouldn't be harmed if we can avoid it. McLeod has discovered that it is more than a mere cat - it appears to be some kind of sentient shape-shifter." She exchanged glances with McFarland. "Commander McFarland believes that Blakus is in contact with Q. If you give him longer to talk to him, Q may give the warp core back voluntarily."
<Tag Park>
"Commander, I will return to the bridge and transport you to the briefing room from there," she said to McFarland. "But I would like to request that I be present in whatever conversation you intend to have."
Cadet Blakus had been crouched in the bush overlooking the dip in the land for a while now. His legs had begun to ache, and his uniform was covered in grime. Of course this was only a dream so when, or if, he woke up all those problems would be fixed. Then something happened that Blakus disliked, the 8472s started moving. Slowly they advanced down the steep slope, and then picked up the pace into a run. There were two possibilities of what this meant in the real world, either the bioships were moving forward, or, the bioships were firing.
Blakus couldn't decide which one was worse, the firing one he supposed. Blakus began to panic as he saw them leaping up the slope on his side of the 'valley'. He had no choice, he had to run.
He ran. Backing out of the bush hastily, he turned on his heel, jumped out of it and ran as fast as he could. Ducking through copses of hedge and bush, being careful not to run into trees and bounding across clearings of blasted land; he could hear the rhythmic movements of his enemy getting closer and closer.
Suddenly he was falling, and the next thing he knew he was sprawled on a hard surface. It was very dark. He stood slowly, confusedly and spat out the blood. His legs ached, his back ached. Ironic, he thought, I'm almost in as bad a condition as in real life. Blakus arched his back backwards and tried to figure out his surroundings. He looked up, ah. Above him was a roughly circular hole which bright light filtered through, he'd fallen through a hole in the ground.
The next thing he noticed was an even darker tunnel, it just seemed black! He cautiously approached it and then found that he had to limp. Just as Blakus began his traverse down the tunnel he was stopped dead in his tracks. A figure approached holding an illuminated object, Q. "Well, you found me cadet. Do you want this?" Q held up the warp core. Blakus' breathing was hoarse, for a few seconds it was all that could be heard in the dark, dense tunnel. Blakus simply nodded in response. "What?" Q inquired aggressively.
"Yes!" Blakus croaked. This day was becoming somewhat of a joke for him, whether in a real or imaginary world, he was getting beaten to a pulp by Q's sadistic will. The illuminated object flew through the air, and as soon as Blakus caught it and saw that was indeed the warp core, it vanished.
Unbeknownst to Blakus, aboard the Hepta, the warp core reappeared, yet it was without power, and could not be activated.
<Tag Hepta Crew>
Q began laughing demonically and turned back down the tunnel, where he faded back into blackness. Blakus on the other hand slumped down against the dusty, dirty wall, and rested his head in his hands.
Things were going well, not matter how hard they tried. To top it off the warp corp disappeared and reappeared. Although it was with out power, and there was know way to get power. To top it off Cadet park wanted to put the strange life form they knew as the cat, into the warp corp for power. The idea had its merits but it went against the prime directive, he couldn't do it. Then there was the issue of the doctor, who was his friend but the chief medical officer as well.
Looking that the doctor and trying to control his temper. " Doctor Barnes" as he saw his chief engineer being escorted off the bridge " Doctor Barnes I understand your concerns and are normaly right. This however is not a normal everyday problem. You are with in your rights to releave Commander Mcfarland. I on the other hand can counter mand that order if, its a danger to this ship. I dont want to do that, I would like to meet you half way on this if possible. What if a medical team trails with a security team behind Commander Mcfarland. At the first signs of trouble they can releave him and beam him into sickbay. I"m asking you to think beyound your duties and a doctor and to think about the saftey of this ship and crew. I'm trying to meet you half way doctor, I will of course note your objections in my log."
While he waited for the doctor to respond his comm officer told him the hanson Xo was busy. He could already tell where this was going, he wasn't going to talk to him they were stalling but why.
Looking over at cadet Park " You can work on the idea of useing the cat, but you are not to try it until I give the order. There is also something I want you to think about why you are doing this the Prime directive cadet and what it means."
Tapping his combadge "Sections heads 30mins until the briefing make sure you bring your cadets. That means you to commander Mcfarland you have my permission for the moment to at least attend the briefing. We will discuss anything futher with the doctor"
" Admiral Drew to the bridge we need to talk and I mean now"
