"I see that Illito and Zelak are talking, and I think it is good you brought him with you. You and I haven't seen each other for a bit, what have you been up to?" Joan says as she raises one eyebrow while smiling mischieviously.
"I see, well we need to find a better time to meet while you are here on starbase. Just because I can join the crew when they go on missions, doesn't mean I will always do so, besides I would think that they would be sick of me now." She says as she continues to smile.

"I see that Illito and Zelak are talking, and I think it is good you brought him with you. You and I haven't seen each other for a bit, what have you been up to?" Joan says as she raises one eyebrow while smiling mischieviously.
"Oh, the usual. Working in Sickbay, keeping an eye on the Hope triplets, and everyone else for that matter. And of course, missing you," he said, winking.
I see, well we need to find a better time to meet while you are here on starbase. Just because I can join the crew when they go on missions, doesn't mean I will always do so, besides I would think that they would be sick of me now." She says as she continues to smile.
Jason nodded. "Yes, we do. I don't like the idea of not knowing when I'm going to see you again next." With the arm he had around her, he reached down a bit and took her hand on that side in his, holding it.

“My specialty seems to be dealing with patients that don’t want to go to sickbay if they can possible avoid it,” Illito replied, smiling. “Apart from that, I do a lot of general work.”
“What about you, is the work you do usually because of an emergency, or is there more preparation involved?” Illito asked Zelak as they walked. “And do you work on a Starbase or on a ship?” Illito realized she was asking a few questions, but she didn’t usually think about neurosurgery, and it could be quite interesting.

Joan notices Illito talking with this other guy, and she smiles happy to see Illito chatting with someone instead of being her usual shy self. Joan squeezes Jay's hand leaning into him a bit enjoying the time they are finally getting to be together.
"I'm glad you agree, but what are we going to do about it?" Joan says realizing they hadn't solved their little problem.

"It's usually due to an emergency, though I often do drills on the holodeck to keep myself in practice. Otherwise I am a general practitioner, like yourself. And I am assigned to a Starbase. This one, in fact. I was just transfered here a few days ago."
He inched a bit closer to her as they walked. "Jason mentions you serve on a Vagabond-class. Such an unusual ship. What are your facilities like?"
"I'm glad you agree, but what are we going to do about it?" Joan said to Jason.
"I'm not sure, really. I guess we can spend time together on Base when the Hanson's not out, but that gets challenging if you're asked to assist on the Hepta."
He kissed her cheek.

Her smile widens when she feels his lips on her cheek, and she blushes.
"Yes, that would be a problem. I guess there is no solution to this one, and we will just have to send subspace messages when we can't be together, then relish the times when we are together, like this one." Joan says putting her head on him.

"Indeed," he said smiling as she rests her head. "These wonderful sweet moments that I get to spend with you." He sighed. "This is wonderful...sand beneath our feet, the soft ocean breeze, the feel of your skin against mine."
He leaned down a bit, and attempted to kiss her lips while walking. Unfortunately, it didn't work, and he loses his balance, sending them both face-first into the sand.

Joan thinks Jay just did that on purpose, and with a mischievous grin, goes into the oncoming tide. He follows, and she drenches him. They start to splash each other, not noticing Illito and Zelak any more as they start to have fun. Joan remembers that she can't swim, and goes under pretending to drown.

Jason sees Joan go under, and dives underwater. He pulls her limp body up above water again, and pulls her to shore.
He lays her down on the sand. "Joan?" he says, slapping her face lightly. He notices she's not breathing. Knowing her, he isn't sure whether this is real or not, so has to assume it is.
He plugs her nose, and begins mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.

Illito noticed Zelak inching closer to her, and she inched a little closer in return. Not much, it was barely noticeable, but she thought he might have noticed it. She wasn’t sure though. “There’s a sickbay, the basics, plus a small degree of specialization. Mainly in treating a wide variety of major emergency wounds. Although I guess that’s true for any starship, anything that can wait until we arrive at a Starbase without further hurting the patient does wait.”
Illito glanced over at Joan and Jason, noticing that they were splashing each other. The water looked…cold. And rather wet.
She turned back to Zelak. “Usually though, the injuries then are rather minor, since it seldom does a patient good to have to wait for treatment.” Illito smiled at Zelak, suddenly a little bored of talking about medical routines, and she rarely got bored of talking about them.

Lucky for her Jay to the rescue again, and the water comes up after a few tries. "I have got to remember not to go out too far. We should go back to land only, and remain that way until I learn a little more about swimming." Joan says laughing so as not to show her true feelings. She gets up and goes to see what is going on with Illito, but upon noticing that Zalek and her are a little closer than normal, she keeps her distance. She orders the computer to give her a towel, and as one appears, she raps herself in it as she starts to shiver violently.

"Indeed it doesn't" Zelak replied. "My last posting was as the Chief Medical Officer on this little freighter. I didn't have much equipment, so unfortunately I lost a few people."
"But, enough about work. What do you like to do when you're off-duty?" he asked.
Jason notices Joan shivering. "Oh, you must be cold dear," he said, and put his arms around her, warming her as they walked.

“Off-duty, well, I like to read, or play cards, if I can find someone to play them with. Poker is so much less exciting when I know what is in everybody’s hands,” Illito said, hoping that Zelak would smile at that, even though she knew it wasn’t that amusing.
“Also, I like to garden, but it’s more fun to garden in a holodeck, don’t need the space, and much less of a wait, although it is rewarding to actually grow something, although the seeds are often replicated, so there’s not too much of a difference, I guess.” Illito shrugged. “What about you?”

"I must say, you are a fascinating woman, Illito," Zelak said in admiration. "As for me, my human colleagues introduced me to the sport Racquetball. I find it quite enjoyable. Like most Cardassians, I'm also trained in Martial Arts, but have let that slide lately. Just about any physically grueling activity interests me. I like the adrenaline rush."

Joan enjoys the warmth, and enjoys the closeness even more.
"Thanks, Jay, for rescuing me again, and for warming me up. I really need to learn to swim. Oh well, another day, another rescue for you." She says chuckling hoping to lighten the mood.
"Maybe we should change the scene, but to do that we need to ask our friends. Come on." She says feeling very uncomfortable with the water nearby now. She gulps as she tries to catch her friends, and eventually does so.
"I was just wondering if maybe we could change the scene. What do you all think?" Joan says smiling trying to hide her fear.

“Sounds interesting,” Illito responded. “I never really got the opportunity to train in Martial Arts while on Cardassia, there were just too many other things that had to be done.” Illito shrugged. “But these things happen. Also, I'm afraid I don't know what racquetball is.”
“I don’t have a problem with that,” Illito replied. “In fact, it sounds like a good idea. What were you thinking of changing it to?” Illito asked, curious. “Just about anything would be nice though, at least for me,” Illito finished.

Joan smiles when everyone agrees to a change of scenary, and she calls up a program quickly as the tide is rushing toward them. Suddenly the computer complies, and she finds they are all now beside a barn. She only smiles at Illito, and gives Jay a mischievous look as she enters.
Suddenly she reappears on a brown horse yipping as she finally enjoys herself, and then she stops the horse.
"Okay, I hope this suits everyone." She says chuckling.

"Okay, I hope this suits everyone." Joan says chuckling.
Joan appeared, on an…animal. “It’s fine.” Illito said, looking at the scenery. “But what is that?” Illito asked, looking pointedly at the thing Joan was sitting on. “And will I be expected to…sit on one as well? I’m afraid I don’t know how.”

Zelak blinked at the appearance of the animal. "I'm afraid I am unfamiliar with it as well."
"Its called a horse," Jason said, "it's an earth land mammal. You ride it. About 500 years ago on earth it was a primary mode of transportation. And yes, Illito," he said looking at his former pupil. And yes you will be expected to sit on one. If you could handle getting Commander Hope to Sickbay during your training mission, you can handle this too."
Jason shivered a bit, realizing he was still in his beach clothes. "Computer, load appearance Jason Alpha." His clothes changed, replaced by blue jeans, a white t-shirt, and his usual felt hat.
"How does one mount that creature?" Zelak asked.
"Computer," Jason said, "give us two more, fully-saddled horses."
Two appeared next to Joan's. "And access my personal files and load my own horse." With that, his massive, thoroughbred Arabian horse appeared. "This one's a bit bigger, due to the breed, but we'll give you smaller ones. Come on over," Jason said, and Zelak and Illito hesitantly followed.
He brought Illito over to the first one. "Alright, foot in that stirrup," he said, indicating where it was. "Now, place your hand on the horn, and I'll boost you up."

"Alright, foot in that stirrup," he said, indicating where it was. "Now, place your hand on the horn, and I'll boost you up." Illito glanced at Jason disbelievingly, then slowly put her hand out, clutching the horn, as if it was a safety measure, that it was her only chance of not falling if…when, everything else failed.
Jason helped Illito up, and she sat on the horse. It shifted slightly beneath her, and she carefully refrained from panicking, or even showing the slightest sign that she was considering panicking. But it took a lot of care. “What exactly am I supposed to do when this horse dumps me?” Illito asked calmly. “Or when I fall off on my own? And as I recall, I didn’t convince Commander Hope to come down to sickbay, she got shot and was transported there. And I was working on another injured person at the time that she ended up in sickbay. So I think that this is much harder than that,” Illito said, but realized she was complaining more than a little.
She shrugged. “Since this is a mode of transportation, I assume that at some point we will be moving on the horse?” Illito said. “Since otherwise it wouldn’t be a very effective mode of transportation. But what degree of control can you have over the horse?” Illito asked, since the horse had seemed to stop when Joan had wanted it to. Either that, or Joan was just pretending she knew how to ride a horse, or that one could ride a horse, but Illito thought that was actually relatively unlikely. But for all Illito knew, she and Jason could have made up the whole thing. Earth mammals weren’t exactly her strong suit.

Joan felt the breeze, and realized she hadn't changed out of her beach outfit. She had the computer change it for her, and then realizes that Illito is uncomfortable.
"Hey, Illito, come and let me show you how to ride them. It isn't difficult, or I'm sure I wouldn't be doing it, oh and ignore any comments made by the good doctor." Joan says chuckling as she remembers the last time she was on a horse.
"You ready? Oh and don't worry, they can catch up to us. Believe me, I have seen Jay's horse move before, man it is fast." Joan says looking to see how ready Illito really is.

After helping Zelak onto his horse, Jason climbed (literally) up onto his own. He guided the horse over next to Zelak's.
"Now, the first thing to remember about riding a horse is not to be afraid. I know, bit of a pointless instruction to a Cardassian, but they can tell if you are, and you'll lose control of them quickly. The two things you use to control the horse are the reins, and your heels. When you want to turn, pull the reins that direction, if you want to stop, pull back on them, and if you want to speed up, kick the horse, gently, in the side."
He kicked the Arabian horse, and sent it into a gallop, taking off after Joan. He slowed next to she and Illito. Zelak was slowly, but surely, catching up, trying to get the hang of the horse.
Jason smiled. "Would you like to join me up here, Joan?" he asked, winking.

“I’m as ready as I can be, considering the circumstances,” Illito said, and Joan moved her horse forward. Illito realized that without her doing anything, her horse was moving forward, following Joan’s horse. Illito clung to stay on. “I don’t think them catching up with us will be a problem,” Illito said, as they continued their slow, plodding pace. “This does not seem to be a very good form of transportation, it’s very slow.” Illito said, not because she necessarily wanted to go faster, but she had gotten used to the current pace, it hadn’t taken that long, and was getting a little bored and adventurous.
“But I’m not feeling particularly suicidal today. I’m ready to be moving a little faster, but not a lot so.” Illito smiled at Joan, hoping she wouldn’t fall off. "And what should I do when I want to stop the horse?" Illito asked. "There is a way of doing that, isn't there."

"Of course there is, you just wave a magic wand and they stop. I'm kidding, Illito." Joan says chuckling, and then realizes that Illito doesn't like this answer. "You just pull back on the reins, you know, the ropes in your hands. That is also how u get the horse moving, and how you control it. If you want to go left, then you put the reigns to the left." She says hoping this is better. Suddenly Jay catches up to them.
"I don't think that is a good idea right now, but thanks for the offer. We both should be there to help just in case our friends need it." Joan says seeing he is saddened by her answer.

She remembers planning a surprise in this little riding adventure, since she hears a few people's stomachs, she decides that now would be a good time.
"Alright gang, I have another surprise, but I think everyone is going to like this." Joan says leading them up a small path to the right. She remembers the view at the top of this one mountain she was on once, and decides to have a nice view with her surprise. She leads the way with Kedzie right behind her. She smiles realzing that Kedzie had picked up riding very quickly, although she didn't look too comfortable on a horse.
Since two of the four hadn't ridden before, Joan keeps the road up short, not wanting to inflict any pain because of ridding too long. She dismounts in a small grove of trees, letting her horse roam free, hoping that she won't go too far away. Joan waits for her friends, and then heads over to the spread out cloth on the ground.
"Surprise, a pic nic, and a view to go with it." Joan says very pleased with herself.
