Tonya Mathers walked into the Starburst grateful for her very first vacation in years. She was wondering when she would get the chance, and was happy to be spending some time here waiting for her friend to return from her latest mission. It seemed that Tonya had just missed Joan, and wondered how coincidental that really was. No matter. She sits down at a nearby table staring out the window.
OOC: Tonya is just an npc.

Stuart needed a little vacation. Things had become quite hectic on Starbase Assailant, with the kidnapping of the Debrune child, and that right after the purple nebula crisis causing a major medical emergency on the planet Qualinost.
Having just graduated himself, about four months ago, it just seemed a bit overwhelming. Stuart needed a small break and wanted to get away for the weekend. He grabbed the next available transport for the short hop to Starbase Conqueror, his first stop as a cadet before he started his formal training on-board the Hepta.
It seemed ironic to him that he was going from one starbase to another to get away from it all. The fact that modern recreational facilities down on Qualinost left something to be desired for did not escape him, however. He just needed to get out of reach from the people that may have called on him during his off time.
After arriving at the starbase, Stuart settled into his billeting for the next two days. Wearing casual clothing while walking about, he observed the eagerness of the new cadets that were here. He also noted the pride of the newly promoted lieutenants that were walking around in their crisp uniforms. Stuart remembered that feeling together with the excitement of receiving his first assignment. He wondered if he would see any of them again on the Assailant.
He needed to get a bite to eat and stopped at one of the many starbase directory displays to see where he could go. "The Starburst" by description sounded perfect. The directory stated that it was so named because of the grand view of the remnants of a supernova. It sounded attractive enough, plus he was already on Deck 24. He just needed to move along two more sectors to get to Section 8 where this bar/restaurant was located.
Stuart entered the lounge. For the moment he was taken aback of the grand view of space that was presented to him. The area of the former supernova was quite spectacular. There were asteroids of various sizes, and nebulous clouds of different shades of orange all about.
He was getting ready to sit down when he noticed someone else who seemed to be enjoying the view as much as he was. She didn't seem like a cadet. He wondered if it would be too bold and presumptuous to sit with her. He could use some non-work related conversation, and what better person to do that with than a total stranger.
He walked up to her table, unnoticed, while she was still staring out into space. "It is quite beautiful, isn't it!"

It had been some time since TJ had left Holodeck Twelve and the festivities that were occuring there. It had been very pleasant – the food, the company, and the showman in him revelled in the appreciation he had seen of the theme and setting of the graduation.
And the banquet! He had forgotten what culinary artists the chefs were on SB Conqueror. It was excellent, but for some reason, left him with a thirsty, dry throat.
Though the festivites had commenced after sunset, it was a holodeck sunset, and did not correspond with the actual time aboard the starbase. It was actually now approaching 2000 hours, and TJ thought he would stop by one of the restaurants to quench that dry thirst.
He remembered the view from Deck 24's Starburst, and decided on it, since it was now close to his current location.
TJ stood at the entrance to the Starburst, anticipating the display he would again see through the viewing window. Once before he had been here.
Entering the establishment, he took a seat and looked around. Near the window he saw Dr. Mercy, who was speaking with a young woman who was also gazing at the "starburst". About the time he was going to call out a greeting, however, the waitress approached his table.
"Good evening, captain," she said, PADD in hand ready to take his order. "What'll you be having this evening?"
"Not much, I'm assurin' ye," he answered. "I've just come from a graduation banquet, an' me poor stomach couldn't hold much more!"
The waitress smiled a surprisingly attractive smile. It was easy to read TJ's open expressions, and she knew that, though he may indeed have been to the banquet, he was in here for something.
"Then perhaps a drink, sir?" she suggested. "A Saurian ale, perhaps?"
"No, I think not," TJ answered. "But I would be interested in a soda ... perhaps a cola?"
The waitress nodded and went off to retrieve her customer's drink.
At that moment, Dr. Mercy and the unnamed woman left the window to find a table, and TJ smiled and waved.

Tonya was startled back to reality by a man in clothing like hers, and she wondered who he was, why he was there, and if he was an officer. She smiles up at him, finally realizing what he said.
"Yes, it is beautiful. I can understand why Joan likes it so much out here. I am Tonya Mathers, who might you be?" She says, and he introduces himself.
"Well it is nice to meet you. Perhaps we should find a more suitable place to talk." She says getting up and going to find a table as he follows. She sees another man waving them their way, and although hesitant at first she joins him.
"Were you waving at me?" She says recieving a nod, and then she sighs and smiles. She wonders why he was waving at her, and notices she is getting attention from two good looking men. This of course makes her feel a little uncomfortable, but she does everything she can to hide it.
"So, where do you serve?" She says to the man who hailed her from across the room.

He introduced himself to Tonya as Stuart Mercy and, yes, that he was a Starfleet officer serving on-board SB Assailant. After his inquiry, she explained who Joan was, Joan McCormick. Stuart had to admit that he hadn't had the pleasure of meeting her.
Just as she had suggested to find a more suitable place to sit, Stuart recognized his academy training captain, CPT Edwards. He had waved at them, apparently recognizing Stuart as well. He motioned for them to come on over.
When they had reached his table, Tonya seemed to be a little presumptuous in thinking that the Captain was just waving at her. It was a little humorous to Stuart, for he thought that she was quite 'bubbly'.
Stuart stepped forward and made the introductions. "How are you doing, sir? Judging from your dress uniform, you must have just come from another graduation. This is Tonya..." He stumbled a bit searching for her last name.
"Tonya Mathers." She jumped in while presenting her hand to Captain Edwards.
"Tonya, this is Captain Edwards. He was my training captain while I was here at the academy." They went ahead and took seats before Stuart continued. "If I remember correctly, that was your first training mission as Captain, sir. I hope all has been well ever since?"

As Tonya extended her hand to TJ, obviously expecing him to take hold and shake it, the Irishman's eyes twinkled and he grinned widely, a bit of playfulness rising in him. Instead of shaking her hand, he stood to his feet out of respect for her, took the extended hand, and, bowing from the waist, kissed it, then linked his eyes with hers, his smile growing wider.
"Th' blessin's o' th' Irish be on ye, colleen," he said. "Well, 'tis not quite right ye are, Dr. Mercy. As I recall, at th' time, I was servin' on Hepta as First Officer. ONE was Captain at th' time."

Captain Edwards made quite a show of gallantry by accepting Tonya's hand and giving it a kiss like as a 'Knight in Shining Armor'. Tonya giggled like a school girl, still full of 'bubbliness' Stuart noted.
Well, 'tis not quite right ye are, Dr. Mercy. As I recall, at th' time, I was servin' on Hepta as First Officer. ONE was Captain at th' time.
Stuart was a bit embarrassed, to say the least. Well, he hardly did see the command crew from the bridge.
"You'll have to forgive my mistake. I've been overwhelmed a bit lately, in fact sense the academy. It's no wonder I'm here for a little vacation." Stuart wondered to himself how that could have slipped his mind. "Nonetheless, I hope you have been well."

Tonya smiles at the captain's way of greeting her, and then takes a seat thanking him. She watches the two converse a little, and spies a waitress coming over.
"How may I serve you?" The waitress asks looking around the table. "I believe I will have a Ronakian Trinker." She say, and the waitress takes the other orders before leaving. She returns in moments, placing first the other drink(s) on the table, then placing a tall glass in front of her. Inside the glass was a purple colored liquid. She sips it, and finds it very nice. Just the right amount of tartness hits her taste buds, and she enjoys it.
"So, what's it like? I mean, what is it like being an officer?" She says realizing she is still a bit nervous around these men, and then she realizes it is only the captain making her nervous. She doesn't know why, and hopes to find out exactly why she feels nervous around him.

TJ waits for Dr. Mercy to answer first, but seeing the good doctor is taking time to analyze and arrange his answer, he gives a generalized response to Tonya.
"'Tis a whole different universe ye go out to when ye go out as captain of a vessel," he said truthfully. "An' while it is indeed more ... interestin', there's also more responisbility restin' on your shoulders. Ye need t' take th' time as ye progress in rank strengthenin' those shoulders so they can support th' added responsibilities."
To give Stuart a place to come in with his advice, TJ took a long sip of his cola.

Stuart spotted his opening to where he could answer Tonya's question.
"I can't tell if you are referring to just the term of being an officer as far as the rank is concerned or our positions and jobs that we hold out here at S47." Stuart took another sip of the Andorian tea he had ordered before continuing.
"I put less stock behind my rank than I do my job. As CPT Edwards has mentioned, there is a lot of responsibility out here for all of us. That's part of the reason I'm here on Conqueror. I needed a little vacation. Unlike the good Captain here, I'm actually stationed at SB Assailant as oppossed to working off of a ship. It's quite interesting, I tell ya."
Stuart enjoyed his tea some more and was pondering what else he might do later on.

"Well," said TJ as he rose to his feet, "'twas a pleasant interlude while it lasted, indeed. But 'tis makin' me way t' veiw progress on th Hepta's repairs I'm needin' t' do. She's needed t' go out again before too long."
With that, the Irishman bid his companions farewell, exited the Starburst, and turned in the direction of the spacedocks.
