The final glance and wave she gave to the family behind her, Aerial L. Fraugg put all second thoughts away and turned to the transporter in front of her. Ok, so maybe one more second thought. Having lived a small town and then a boarding school, she rarely used transporters. In fact, she could count on her hands (barely) the times she had used transporters, until today for her trip here. She breathed in and exhaled deeply then timidly stepped onto the transporter. Observing that all of her particles were in place, she stepped down and stated, “Aerial L. Fraugg reporting for duty”. As that smile crossed a face she thought, ‘Yes, frog, like the little green amphibians.’ A smirk crossed her own lips too, it was a fun name if nothing else.

Joan had been busy lately, and headed off for some fun. She got a memo, and realized she forgot to pick up a cadet. She shook her head, and hoped that this cadet wouldn't be too upset with her.
She headed for the transporter room drawing out the correct padd. She entered as a young woman stepped down from the pad. She introduced herself.
"Hello, Cadet Fraugg, and welcome to Conqeror. Sorry, I didn't mean to be late." She said and tried not to laugh at the reference she made to her name.
(Fraugg)
"If you will follow me, I will show you where your quarters are for the duration of your stay on the starbase." She said, and realized she sounded like a machine.

"Not at all" Aerial replied trying not to sound as timid as she felt.
"If you will follow me, I will show you where your quarters are for the duration of your stay on the starbase." She said, and realized she sounded like a machine.
"Yes mam." was the only thing Aerial could get out. The woman in front of her appeared to be so together and had a command of her surroundings. She tried to not look quite as antsy as she new she felt. Had she said her name? Did I miss it? Oh great I'm, such an idiot.

She heard the reply, and wondered what was wrong. Did I say or do something to provoke this? She thought, and headed out of the transporter room with the cadet in tow. She took her to the turbolift, and when it arrived they both got in. One the doors were shut she told the computer which deck to head to.
She turned to the cadet. "I just realized I didn't introduce myself back there, and I have no clue where my manners went. I just hope this doesn't get back to my mom, or who knows what she will do to me." Joan said and chuckled. "I am Joan McCormick."
She noticed by the cadet's body language that Cadet Fraugg was nervous. She didn't know those older than her could be as nervous as she could. She turned to the cadet.
"Did I do something to make you nervous? If it is because of my rank, you don't need to do that. I am off duty right now, and I would just like to be friends, if possible." She said hoping the nervous state of the cadet was in no way her fault.

Looking Joan in the face, Aerial smiled with less fear. However, she looked down and sighed, "I've never been in space before and I've never transported as much in my life as it seems like I have today. It's a little terrifying. I guess I should get used to it." Realizing it was a funny thing to hear coming from a person interestied in engineering, she looked up and smiled again, feeling like she did as a green freshmen in school again.
The lift stopped and the two passengers exited. Knowing her name made Joan much less daunting, she seemed nice really.
Taking that worry off her shoulders she began to really look around and examine corridor. Every thing around moved with life of lights and beeping. The place had its own character contrary to the "lifelessness" her mom always described the space vessels and stations as.
"Wow" escaped her lips before she could stop it.

"I know where you are coming from. I too was scared of traveling at one point in my life. After awhile I just became used to it, and then I came to dread being transported all the time. I was always going somewhere, and never once was it home. Now, I wouldn't mind seeing more of the stars sometime, as long as I don't miss a duty shift." She said hoping the fact that someone knew what she was feeling, or something like it would help her. Joan wasn't sure it would, or that she knew exactly what this lady felt. She was much older than Joan was when she was first transported. She smiled, and they exited the turbolift.
She was about to take the lead when she saw Aerial looking around a bit. She heard the 'wow' escape Aerial's lips, and she chuckled.
"Yes, it is a beautiful sight to see something working like it should. I remember seeing something like this for the first time in my life. It was amazing. I guess after a bit you lose some of the awe behind every working console." She said and found she was babbling.
"Sorry, I don't mean to go on and on like I am doing." She said, and hoped it didn't cause to much trouble. "Right this way." She motioned walking beside the other woman instead of in front of her.

"Oh, it isn't bad at all. It's very nice to hear that not everyone is used to it naturally. That's how it seemed when Starfleet officers would visit my school." Aerial thought of the clean cut men and women speaking to the group of students. Most people would listen; yet, some would talk to each other making fun of the officers suits, since they thought Starfleet was a joke. She thought the officers were very confident looking and their stories sounded very adventurous.
"So what kinds of things will I be expected to do right now? I mean until I am assigned." Aerial questioned, thinking of how much easier it is to get used to a new place when you know what to do.
<tag McCormick>
They passed many groups of people. Some people looked determined and walked fast while seeming to stare far off in the distance, while others were walking in groups and laughing at what must have been inside jokes. Aerial liked to people watch, so she would definitely like this place.
They stopped in front of a door. Aerial asked, "How, or do they, make sure that either I or a superior controls who goes into my room?" Voice activation? A code? she wondered.

She was walking beside the woman, when Aerial became curious. "Right now you are just expected to relax, and get ready for the upcoming mission you will be going on. You could get to know your fellow cadets and those who will be your instructors. I will not be one of your instructors, but I can be your guide to the starbase if you like. I live here and know the base a bit better than most." She said and noticed a tail that wasn't suppose to be nearby. She ignored it for now not wanting Leena to scare the new cadet. After walking for a bit past many people, they arrived at the cadet's quarters. "Here you are." She said not sure what else to say. The cadet asked a good question, and Joan drew out another padd, finding it was one of the wrong ones again. She heard a bit of a chuckle, and finally fished out the right one. "This is for you, and it can't be viewed by anyone else. I believe it is your activiation for the controls in your room. I have no idea though." She said handing it over. The cadet went into her quarters and Joan remained outside with Leena. "What are you doing here?" She said a bit irrated. "I roam where and when I please, you know that. I haven't been in any trouble because of it, and no one seems to mind. If it bothers you that much though, I won't do it any more." She said feeling Joan's emotions. Joan suddenly felt a bit guilty. "No, it is fine. Just stay out of trouble, and don't go scaring cadets. Angel Paris was bad enough when she was here we don't need anything like that again." She said and chuckled. Leena gave Joan one of those hundred watt smiles. "See what I mean, that was a bit scary." She said and couldn't keep a straight face when she said it. Leena stuck her tongue out at Joan, making her laugh harder. Suddenly the cadet came out of her quarters, and it looked like she was looking for Joan. "Did you need something?" She said wondering what was going on. (Aerial) OOC: Leena is Joan's companion. For a picture of her....... putfile.com/pic.php?pic=3/8120445490.png&s=x10

Upon stepping out side and looking up, Aerial suddenly lost all her thoughts. Her face turned pale as all the blood seemed to rush from her body. What is that... yeah...um. Not even her mind could form sentences as her mouth moved soundlessly.
When she could finally peel her eyes from what had surprised her she looked questioningly at Joan. McCormick appeared to not be at all afraid, more amused. So Aerial attempted to regain some of her composure, while looking hopefully to Joan for answers. (tag Joan)

She noticed the looks coming from Fraugg. She smiled, and then realized what was going on when the cadet looked at Leena.
"What are you staring at?" Leena said not liking the attention she was getting. The cadet jumped.
(Fraugg)
"Yes, she is a very intelligent creature. This is Leena, my companion of several years now. She and I have been through a lot together. I remember the day I found her..." She said and was interrupted.
"Not to be rude here, but Joan, I don't think that is relevant right now. I didn't mean to scare you. My bark is much worse than my bite, and that goes for Joan too." Leena said and chuckled. She stood up on her back legs to walk just like both Joan and Aerial did.
"Hey you, now I thought we talked about you teasing me like that." Joan said and chuckled herself.
"So, what did you want to do right now? I can show you the base, we can go and meet new people, or we could end up on the holodeck having fun. The sky is the limit, as long as you don't mind if it is real or not." Joan said and smiled.

Jason was walking around the base, feeling blue. He was so sad that he couldn't even describe it. His love had left for another assignment and he was so lonley. He was thinking about writing her, but he decided against it. It would be kind of scary to see that his message would arrive days before she arrived to her new assignment.
So here he was walking around the base looking at people, stores, cadets, officers, and all kind of things. Out of no where something caught his eye and he couldn't believe what he was seeing. He walked up to the group, which included a cadet and an officer he had heard about.
"Your Leena right?" Jason asked,"my brother has told me so much about you."

She noticed the looks coming from Fraugg. She smiled, and then realized what was going on when the cadet looked at Leena.
"What are you staring at?" Leena said not liking the attention she was getting. The cadet jumped.
A pathetic mumbled 'sorry' was all that Aerial could offer. She was surprised at its talking, it wasn't everyday she ran into these sort of things. Her attempts to straighten up and get back to normal looking were failing miserably. With a last attempt she again looked to McCormick for an answer, reassurance, or help in general.

"So, what did you want to do right now? I can show you the base, we can go and meet new people, or we could end up on the holodeck having fun. The sky is the limit, as long as you don't mind if it is real or not." Joan said and smiled.
" I think I would like something to drink." Aerial found that her mouth was working once again and decided she liked it better this way. Maybe a trip to the holodeck to practice the whole, meeting new creatures thing would be helpful later. She was embarrassed at her first reactions to the presence of Leena, and it suddenly came to her she should probably apologies.
" I am very sorry, Leena. I hope I haven't offended you too terribly. There aren't many surprising and interesting things like yourself where I come from." Her wording sounded terrible in her own ears and she could only hope that it wouldn't fall sourly with Leena.
A new person came up and she felt doubly bad since he didn't seem the least bit afraid, but by his collar, she could see he wasn't exactly new like herself. <tag Joan or Jason>

"You haven't offended me, and I shouldn't have snapped at you like that. I'm sorry. I can understand how seeing something like me would cause some shock. I hope you don't see anything stranger than myself. However, needing to be prepared for the worst out there, maybe it is good I have shocked you. You might be able to react better if you remember how you got over your shock with me. Then again maybe not." She said and smiled widely. ~Joan, I don't want to scare the poor girl. Do you think I should leave?~ Leena thought, and Joan chuckled.
~No, Leena, you should be fine. Don't worry about it. I am sure she will let you know for sure when you are not wanted.~ Joan thought still smiling at Aerial.
"Well, if you follow me, then we will go to the promenade for that drink." She said, and moved toward the turbolift. They had a quiet ride, and got off the turbolift seeing many groups of people all around. Joan knew it would be busy, and hoped this didn't bother the new cadet.
Suddenly some guy walked up and started talking.
"Yes, I am Leena. Your brother? Who in the world are you?" She said not knowing who the man was. She had a couple of guesses on who his brother was, but she wasn't sure exactly.
(Jason)
"Well, I know where ever you ladies go for a drink, the owners won't want me around. So I am going to go see what trouble I can cause, um, I mean what fun I can have here on the promenade." Leena said, changing her statement when Joan gave her a look, and walked away quickly before anyone could say anything.
"Well, kind sir, if Aerial doesn't mind, perhaps you would like to join us for a drink." She said hoping that no one minded him joining their little party.
(Jason, Aerial)
"Well, then I suggest we go to the Black Hole. It isn't far from here, and they serve excellent drinks. I found them once by mistake. They make wonderful drinks. It is a quaint little bar, and I think you might like it." She said not sure what else to say. They head that way with Joan in the lead. She hadn't been to the Black Hole for several weeks, and she was sure the waiter would wonder where she had been. He seemed to like Joan, and she enjoyed his company.
They made it here in about fifteen minutes, and Joan noticed the place was hoping as usual. She saw her waiter friend and smiled sweetly in his direction. He was busy, and she knew he hadn't see her yet. She could have left and suggested another place to drink, but she decided not to. They entered, and Joan took them to her usual table.
The room was dark with stars in constellation formations all around on the walls. A large black hole was seen behind the bar, and even the doors behind the bar were painted to look like the black hole on the wall. The room had low lighting, and the little lighting there was came from spotlight like lights from the roof. The bar was at the back in a semi circle. Joan didn't know why she liked this place, but she knew she did. He waiter friend came over to take their order, and he noticed Joan.
"Hi, babe, where have you been hiding?" He said and Joan chuckled.
"I have my own ways of disappearing around here." She said in answer, and he smiled.
"I take it you want the usual? How about your friends here, what may I bring you." He asked.
"Yes the usual for me." She answered, and he waited for the other orders.

"Yes, I am Leena. Your brother? Who in the world are you?" She said
"My Matt's older brother, he met you and Commander McCormick during his training mission," Jason said still looking at the amazing creature. Matt was right in telling him that she was one of a kind. Jason felt as if Leena was not that comfortable around him and she soon found a reason to leave the group.
"Well, kind sir, if Aerial doesn't mind, perhaps you would like to join us for a drink." She said
"Well first off Commander please don't call me sir," Jason said smiling at his superior officer," its Jason Reynolds."
<Tag Joan>
"Oh I'm so sorry Cadet, I'm being rude, I'm Commander Jason Reynolds and what is your name?" Jason said finding it odd that he was reintroducing himself in the span of like three seconds." Now Miss Fraugg if you don't mind I would like to join you ladies for a drink?"

Aerial was quick to nod and say yes. She was happy to be joined by another person. Since the place seemed so vast, it would be nice to know as many of the people she could as possible. When they entered the place, the person behind the counter was very congenial.
"Yes the usual for me." She answered, and he waited for the other orders.
Aerial gave a shrug and simply asked, "What is good here?"
Jason Reynolds introduced himself to her, it was nice of him to address her directly even though he had just told his name to the Commander.
"I am Cadet Aerial Fraugg, nice to meet you. Please, join us."

"Well it depends on what kind of drink you like. If you like something with fruit like Joan here, then I have a few smoothies you could try. The menu is there if you want to take a look I could come back." He said still smiling.
"Take your time, and I will be back. I'm going to get da... Joan's drink." He said turning bright red. He almost slipped, and it was something he didn't want to do. He left, and Joan smiled.
"So, what do you two like to do for fun?" She said trying to pass the time, but not trying to be a nuisance as they tried to figure out what they wanted to drink.

Aerial was thinking she was missing peaches, which were plentiful in her home town. What do i like to do for fun? She pondered a moment, looking for what she enjoyed the most. It was like when people asked her what color was her favorite, she seemed to have to figure it out anew every time.
She thought of her writings, but they were kind of pathetic and never wanted to subject anyone to them. Then some of her drawings came to mind tehy were so horrible, she wouldn't feel to bad if she ever had to show them to someone.
"I really enjoy drawing and painting."
When the man behind the counter came back, Aerial asked him for anything that was cold and had peach in it.

"Something with peaches, coming right up. Here is your drink, Joan. Have you made up your mind, sir?" Tom said and put her drink down in front of her. It was in a large glass, and yellow orange. She put a straw in it and sipped it slowly enjoying for a moment.
"I haven't tried that, maybe you could show me your work sometime." Joan said trying to be polite. She took another sip not sure of what to say. She knew small talk wasn't something she was good at, but she figured practice made perfect.
"So where are you from?" She said hoping this might bring something they could talk about. She noticed Jason was being really quiet, and wondered if that was normal for him.

"I lived in a small town in Oklahoma. If you've ever heard stories about small towns, like gossip spreading in meres hours through the whole town - it's absolutely true. However, I've never ridden a horse to school. Someone has asked me that before..." Aerial trailed off with a smile, there was perhaps a funny story behind it, but mostly she just thought the person was a little touched in the head
Aerial turned to Jason, wondering herself where he came from.

"Aw, too bad it wasn't Kansas." She said and chuckled even though no one else thought it was funny.
"I know, I know, that one is over used. I haven't heard anything about small towns, but it is good to know that you have to keep the news to yourself or have it spread all over town. I will remember that." She said, and realized that she should tell something about her background.
"I was born on Terra Nova, and was raised in several orphanages. I got lucky when I came here though. I found my mom." She said not sure what else to say of her life. In a nutshell that was it. She didn't do anything exciting, and she hadn't done anything profound either.
~YOU don't need to do something profound or exciting with your life. You are young, and you have barely started out. Remember your age... Remember your history.... Remember the hardships. You haven't exactly had it easy babe.~ Leena thought sending it to Joan. It made Joan feel a little better remembering those, but they didn't make her feel important. She felt like a nobody, and she wondered why she felt this way. She tried to shake the feeling, but found she couldn't.

" Wow, you found your mom?" That sounded like something amazing to Aerial, considering the massive amount of people in Starfleet. Joan appeared a little sad. Unsure what else to do she looked down. Aerial looked at her pad she had been carrying and remembered her question, but the pad had now produced instructions.
"Um, Joan it looks like it is time for me to report to my ship. It was nice talking to you and when I come back I hope we can talk again." Aerial smiled and stood up.

She was unsure of what to say, her past hadn't been an easy one, and it was easier to just forget it. "I was adopted when I graduated," she said finding a lump in her throat.
She heard the cadet was leaving and smiled again. "Good luck with your mission, and I look forward to the conversation we will have in the future," she said and stood up when Aerial did. They shook hands, and she watched as both the instructor and the cadet left.
OOC: It has been nice simming with you. Have fun on your training mission.
