"I am not sure what advice I could give, but any advice you seek I will do my best to answer. I have only heard of Vulcan, can you tell me a bit about what it was like living and studying there?" Joan said a bit at awe with the mention of a world Joan had only heard of.
"As for food, well I am sure we can find something that you would enjoy. I could make a few suggestions, but I am not sure what you like, perhaps if you could tell me what your taste buds are looking for more in the food than how it is prepared I will be more able to assist you in your search," Joan said realizing she sounded like a robot. ~That's what I get for hanging around those other officers, the ones that were borg.~ Joan thought, remembering the last time she saw ONE and TWO.

"Well, the living conditions were not very comfortable for a human. I did not many tourist activities because of the high gravity and harsh climate. I mostly remained between the walls of the science institutes and guests quarters. As for the people, they made me feel an agitated person for the first time in my life.” She concluded her sentence with a smile. “But studying there was very interesting and I learned a lot thanks to Vulcan protocols and logical thinking.”
The Commander seemed embarrassed in a matter of food advices so she came back to a simpler demand. She was too tired to test some weird alien meal.
“As long as it’s Earth-like enough, I let you choose Commander.”

OOC: Joint post between Charlotte and myself.
IC:
Joan thought about what she heard of Vulcan, and wondered if it would be a good place to see for her. She decided not considering what the cadet said. The younger girl smiled when she heard the cadet wanted something human for food.
"Well, I can suggest a couple of different areas we could dine, unless you wanted to eat alone. The Starburst has excellent food, not too good on the company though. There is also the Bakery if you are looking for something sweet to eat, but not good for a meal. The Heather on the Hill is pretty good. I have only been there once, but it made such a good impresson. Where would you like to go to eat?" Joan said leaving the option of the place up to the cadet. She knew where she would go, but she decided it wasn't her decision.
"I would be honoured to share your diner Commander. But I may be a poor company myself. As you have mentioned it, I’m a little tired. Starburst or Heather… Heather on the Hill are fine. Maybe the first if the food is excellent.”
Joan knew both were excellent choices. "Well the Starburst then, there isn't much in company there, so you should be able to get a good meal. As for me joining you, well its up to you. I can head off if you would rather eat alone," she said thinking of the alternative if the cadet desired to be alone.
“I’d be glad to have company. I’m sure to feel lonely soon enough.”
The Commander was different from the usual officers. Perhaps because she was younger than the other senior officers Charlotte had met ever since. She was kind and sympathetic. The cadet smiled to thank her for her attentions.
"Well, we should go then, unless there was something else you wanted to see or do first?" Joan said not wanting to be pushy. She didn't like ordering people around, and did her best to appear friendly. She always liked making a new friend.
“I think now is fine. I have dropped my things in my quarters before coming to your office. I’ll just follow my guide.” Replied Charlotte.
"Okay, chow time then, it won't be too far from here," Joan said, putting a few padds in a different pile, then heading out the door with Charlotte right behind her. They entered the turbolift together, and Joan told the computer to head for the promenade.
"So, what do you know of the starbase?" Joan said trying to make conversation.
As ever Charlotte felt the anxiety back when asked about her knowledge. Even her diplomas didn’t made her ready for this. She still felt like a little girl under interrogation. “I know the global decks organization but I still need the computer to help me locate the different sectors.”
"I would think that natural though, unless you know someone here who knows the base extremely well. I don't think I even knew about this place when I was a cadet, but I have had time since then to explore. Is there anything you wanted to know? I admit I don't know everything, but I do know some about this place," Joan said realizing she was steering the conversation.
"Here we are talking about the base, was there something you wanted to talk about?"
Charlotte felt she had to make a contribution to the conversation. “I must admit that I more curious about people or species who are living on the base, or about the kind of mission I may expect for my first time out.”
"Well, there are people of all species around here. We have a few ex borg here, some humans, and I do believe I remember a few Klingons stopping in now and then. For the mission, I really don't know what you might be facing. I remember my training mission, and it was nothing like I thought it would be," she said hoping to help a little.
“Borgs ? Interesting.” The cadet tried not to let her feelings be known at the mention of Klingons. She knew she could not avoid them during her duty but she never had been comfortable in their presence. A small souvenir from her childhood and her elder brother who kept bullying her with stories about creepy Klingons seeking for her blood. She was well aware this was childish and stupid but she still could not help it.
Joan noticed a change in the other woman. She wondered if she should mention it. "Is there something wrong? What did I say to make you look so distant?" Joan said realizing she had no clue what she might have done for this to happen.
"Yes, our academy commadant is an ex borg. I have talked with him several times, but nothing recent," she said quickly.
“Nothing. It must be the fatigue from the journey.” Charlotte tried to look more relaxed and smiled again. She nearly wished she was Vulcan at this time. The thought came to her that she could use some of Surak’s teachings.
The turbolift opened depositing them onto the promenade. "The Starburst is this way," she said, and then bumped into someone as she was looking to see if Charlotte was still with her. She turned around quickly. "I am so sorry, well hello. I didn't think I would see you again after that last batch of cards. Oh where are my manners, Cadet Charlotte Boissey this is Ensign Jake Peters. Jake is one of the security guards here on the station," she said introducing them.
“Nice to meet you Ensign Peters.” She thought she didn’t have to precise she was newly arrived. “I’m an exobiologist. Commander McCormick is kind enough to guide my first steps on the base.” She looked at the young man then took a look on the promenade and the people walking by.
"Well I will see you later at the next game, don't forget to bring your poker face this time," she said teasing him. He chuckled and walked away. She guided them through the crowd and toward the restaurant.
"So what did you think of the ensign?" Joan said grinning the usual grin, which always meant trouble.

Charlotte was surprised by the Commander’s question. She didn’t know what to answer. She took a look back at the young man going away then she turned again to Commander McCormick.
“Hard to say, he didn’t say a word. Nice smile I suppose” She replied absentmindedly, shrugging.
The promenade was full of interesting people. Charlotte had studied the DNA of most species in presence without having properly met one person of each. She had never set a foot near the Palais de la Concorde, on the right riverside of the Seine, the UFP government seat where you could see at least every species of the Federation. She had made her studies at the science institutes on the left side of the Seine before leaving to Vulcan for a while. One could make his world knowing a few places and a few people.

"Nice smile, that's it?" Joan said and chuckled. She dropped the subject for now as they walked into the restaurant. Joan thought about what table was good, and picked one near the window like she usually did. She noticed the garden was looking as lovely as usual.
Joan sat down, and opened a menu not sure what to have this time. She usually got whatever she felt like ordering, but she wasn't sure what this time. She didn't like this indecision that was setting in. Lately she had noticed it was around alot. Joan looked over the menu, and decided to try the catfish.
After their orders were placed and the drinks arrived, Joan took a sip, and then looked out at space for a moment.
"Beautiful view, don't you think?" She said, and noticed a ship was docking. She wondered who was coming, because it wasn't the Hanson returning. She ignored it for now, deciding to inquire about it later. Joan wasn't sure what to say then.

The two young women took seat near the large windows offering a view on a part of the space docks. There wasn’t a crowd of customers in the restaurant so the waitress was quick to give them the menu. Charlotte read it down carefully. There was plenty of choice so it was difficult to make a decision. She saw earth recipes, she recognised even Vulcan dishes. Eventually she ordered an Andorian meat-pie with some Vulcan salad.
The waitress served them an aperitif. Charlotte realised she was indeed thirsty and the meal will be also greatly welcomed. Commander McCormick drew her attention back to the view. Charlotte couldn’t even tell if her own ship has arrived on this part of the starbase.
“Yes indeed.” She watched the approach of the docking vessel out of curiosity. Her eyes turned to the stars and the space.
“It’s a strange feeling. I mean being on a starbase, in a middle of empty space, floating between stars. You certainly are accustomed to this and I must sound weird to you but I’m used to solid ground under my feet and sky above my head. Contrary to my brother I scarcely dreamed about star travels. Even astronomy may be the science area I favourite the less. I’m more interested in people and lifeforms which make the space a little less empty, in my mind at least.”
Her glass run out of content. She put it back on the table.
“For how long have you been in the Starfleet service ?”
