*Traks sat in the Captains chair, reviewing their next assignment. While it was officially his chair his main job now was to train the next generation of captains. The console beeped. *
Savali: This is Lieutenant Commander Tiffani Savali To the USS Hope *came her crisp voice as she watched the view screen*
Traks: This is Colonel James Traks of the Hope.
Savali: Requesting permission to dock *she answered in a clear voice*
Traks: General Arok has told us to expect you and your passenger. The shuttle bay is prepped and ready you are cleared on final approach; Hope out.
*Turning to the tactical station Traks addressed the CTSO. *
Traks: Mr. Vegeta have the Honor Guard report to the shuttle bay, and escort the Admiral to his quarters. I will meet with our next command candidate and brief her in the ready room, before she assumes command.
Vegeta: Aye Aye Sir.
OFF All Hope personnel jump in. We are on a diplomatic mission. We have only one candidate at this time, so our CMO will take the XO slot. This is a diplomatic mission and I know our CMO is the right officer to assign as a trainer for our Candidate.

*Traks continued to read the files of the two new cantidates as the door chime sounded.*
Traks: Enter.
*Traks stood and walked around the desk as in walked a young Lt. Cmdr.*
Savali: LT Cmdr Tiffani Savali reporting.
Traks: At ease and take a seat. *Savali hesitated not sure where to sit.* No, that is your seat, at least for the duration of this mission.
*Savali moved around the desk and sat down.*
Traks: From what I have been told we are to take Admiral Talaw to Cestus 3 to mediate a dispute between the Gorn and Klingon Empires. We will be stopping by Outpost D'Kul to pick up the Klingon Respective; Fleet General Krok. This will be a true test of everyone's diplomatic skills. I will be your acting 2nd officer and man the OPS station. Your XO on this mission will be Cmdr J'Leera Laika. When this mission is over you will become her Xo for her mission. As this is a diplomatic mission your primary trainer will be our CMO Colonel MacKenzie. Any questions?

Commander J’Leera Laika quickly picked up her bag and walked up to the transporter pad. It had been a while since she had anything to do with the academy, so she was a little nervous about her command course. When she was at the academy as a cadet, she had heard about this class, but could barely imagine ever having the opportunity to take it. But now she was taking it and she looked forward to what new opportunities it might bring her way.
“Are you ready Commander?” the transporter chief asked and she quickly looked up.
“Yes, energize,” she nodded and seconds later she was aboard the USS Hope. She immediately stepped down and inquired about the whereabouts of General Arok or Colonel Traks.
“Colonel Traks with another candidate at the moment,” the Transporter Operator gave her. “I’ve been told to tell you to go on up to the bridge. He’s waiting for you.”
“Understood, where might I find his office exactly?” she inquired. "I have some documents for him."
He walked up and handed her a PADD. “Here’s a map of the ship. It has all the data you need on it as well as the location of your quarters.”
“Thank you, Ensign,” she said. “This will be most helpful.”
“Do you require anything else Commander?” he asked.
“No, thank you,” she shook her head. “That will be all.” With that, she head straight out of the transporter room, carrying her bag and followed the directions provided on the PADD. After finding the location of the Colonel’s office, she went to find out if he were busy at the moment.

*The com panel on the desk beeped; Savali looked at Colonel Traks*
Traks: Go ahead it is your ship.
*Savali pressed the control.*
Savali: Savali here.
Tran op: Commander J’Leera Laika has arrived and is on the way to the ready room.
Savali: acknowledged.
Traks: well looks like the gang is all here you are in command now.

Dashing through Starbase Conqueror in his marine fatigues was getting Q2 some extremely strange looks. Although he was an assigned trainer to the USS Hope for the ATTC, and the training of marine cadets, in between the two training runs, he had been assigned to a real job. Although a relatively straight forward mission, he had only just docked on conqueror, and was now at in run in the light khaki/brown combat fatigues, gun's rattling against his waist. He was aware he was breaking a fair few rules, but he didn't really care. As he flew past a pair of cadets, knocking one each way, he saw the airlock door for the Hope. The stewardess standing by it had just changed the boarding notice to closed, and she was moving to close and lock the door.
"Hold that!" He shouted out to her, but to no avail. The door was closed and locked by the time he reached it.
She turned to him, a trained and false smile on her face. "And you are?"
"Lieutenant Colonel Q2. I'm the damned first officer of that ship!"
The stewardess gave him a look that said it all. She wasn’t going to do anything about it, she was disdainful of anyone who could be late, and she didn’t really care. He dismissed her with a movement of his hand/
“Don’t worry yourself, I’ll just find another way.”
She frowned at him. “This is the only way, the isn’t another way.”
“Trust me, there is always another way.” He said as he disappeared back down the corridor. He only vaguely knew the station, having only been on it a few times since his time in the academy, and he had to double back three times before he arrived at his destination. The transporter room. Unfortunately, it appeared to be offline. He tapped around at the console for a while trying to fix it, but eventually gave up. It was well and truly broken, and it could take him hours to fix.
Sighing at his misfortune, he ran back to the ship that he had arrived at the starbase on. The small Raider class vessel was perfectly suited to the needs of marines, and the one that he had acquired for his team had been improved for his needs. With the capacity minimised so that it only carried his 12 man team, there was room for a few more systems. There was a mini-holodeck which could be used during briefings to show the layout of the operational area, and he had even managed to squeeze a couple more phaser banks in the space.
His team had not yet left the ship when he arrived back, and after a quick discussion, they agreed to come with him for the duration of his next training mission. Already Q2 figuring how they could all figure in the cadets training. The ‘flyer’ for the previous mission had already got permission to undock and depart, and after giving a flight plan, they pulled away from the station. With the USS Hope only gone for a few minutes, and the flight plan now on their computer, it wasn’t long before they could see the large Nebula class vessel in their forward viewscreen.
“You train cadets in that?!” one of the marines spoke up, causing the dozen to start laughing. They were silence with an aggravated wave from the pilot, who had just opened a comm link to the Hope. After a couple of minutes of explanation, they received clearance to put into the shuttlebay.

J'Leera quickly found out that Colonel Traks was in the briefing room with the other candidate. She didn't know who it was yet, but she wondered if they were someone that she knew from the Academy.
When the door opened, she immediatly recognized who it was. She was about to say something, but thought better of it and went up to the Colonel and handed him a PADD with her records on it.
"I am reporting in for duty now, sir,"she said, standing at attention. "What will you be having me do? I had heard that this was a diplomatic mission. Is that correct?"

Having found out that the Colonel Traks was meeting with the two ATTC trainees in his ready room, and that he was supposed to be present, Q2 once more proceeded to jog. Having given his troop of marines orders on where to leave their stuff and what rooms they could have, he had departed on his second jog of the day.
Knowing this ship somewhat better than he knew Starbase Assailant, he didn't get lost on the way, and was soon on the bridge. With a slight nod at the rest of the bridge crew, who he knew must have been confused by his lack of appearance, and then late arrival, he hit the call button outside the Colonel's office. He only had to wait a couple of seconds before he was let in, and he took a seat perpendicular to the desk, giving him a side view of both trainees and his commanding officer.
Interestingly, in a complete contrast to the previous run, both the trainees were females. This didn't bother him in anyway, as he had plenty of females in his troop, and knew they were just as good if not better then most men. It was however, interesting. From their body language he guessed they knew each other, but both were rather nervous in front of Colonel Traks.

*Traks nodded to his Xo as he entered the ready room. It seemed that the candidates were just a little intimidated, time to get to work.*
Traks: Captain Savali there are a few changes you and your xo should be aware of.
1. Your command crew for this voyage will be Cmdr Laika as XO, Lt Col 1st class Vegeta at Tactical, Lt Col 1st class Q2 in Engineering, and I will be your Second Officer at OPS. 2. The Federation has assigned a special envoy to mediate this conference. His name is Ambassador Tedak.
3. We have been directed to proceed directly to Cestus III As Fleet General Krok has departed Outpost D'Kul in route to Cestus III instead of traveling with us. This could cause us trouble as the appearance of the Mo'Bath a Neg'Var class battle ship with it's two escorting K'Vort class curser is sure to make the Gorn uneasy. The only backup we will have is the USS Flying Tiger. The Flying Tiger is attached to Outpost D'Kul and has been patrolling the Klingon/Gorn border, and while it is only one ship it is a Prometheus class vessel.
Last but not least; Computer identify Traks, James A. code six alpha delta 6. Transfer command codes and operations to Lt Cmdr Tiffani Savali level 5 access.
<Tag Savali>
*As they exited the ready room to take their stations Traks slipped into his role as second officer at the Ops station.
OFF: time to get started

With the briefing over, and having had no down time since he had got back from his assignment with the marines, Q2 now had to make his way down to engineering to start a double shift. He was aware that the guns were stillon his belt while he walked down through the ship, rattling away. The looks he was drawing were varied, but all pretty skeptical. When he arrived in engineering, his assistant from the previous mission glanced at the guns.
"I'm not even going to ask."
"Best that you don't," Q2 smiled as he replied, "I'd only have to kill you."
The assistant grinned, but it slowly started to fade as he wondered whether it was a joke or not. In the end he came to the decision he didn't really care.
Q2 had meanwhile dumped to guns. Although he was still in desert fatigues, he had clipped his rank pips onto it, which for him meant that he was official enough to do his job. He had no idea what the rule book said, but when it got down to it, as long as he did his job, who was going to complain. He ran through the initial tests and scans on the engine. When they all came back positive, he tapped his commbadge.
=/\= Engineering reports ready Captain Savali. =/\=
He yawned, and ordered a coffee from the replicator. 89 hours with only snatches of sleep was not good for him. As soon as he was finished his current shift, he was going to go straight for his bed.
Suddenly the ship shuddered. He looked over at his assistant, who shrugged in return. A few seconds later, a calvacade of alarms went off.
"Dammit!" Tayna, his assistant yelled at him. "The Warp Core is losing stability."
Tired as he was, Q2 was instantly action.
"Attempt balance reintegration. Lower intake levels to a minimum. I don't want this thing to need a reboot before we can leave Starbase."
The whole of engineering was a buzz of activity, as everyone got to work. The alarms were still sounding, but noone paid them any direct heed.
"Still raising."
"Alright, let's shut her down. Close off the intake, maximum out-take. Drain the core. I don't want a drip of anything left in there. Check the possibility of dumping the core." Q2 snapped back once more, doing what he could from his console.
His commbadge bleeped at him. He slapped it aggravatedly.

Thank you sir *she gave a salute to him as he finalized things* For now you are free but *she looked over at J'leera* Please Make sure the Senior officers know their will be a meeting in one hour to discuss the current mission.
If that is all you have for me Traks *she commented* Then you are all dismissed. I'll see you at the senior meeting.
*she waited till the left before she sliped into the captains chair as she slid her hands down the side arms and sighed as her hands came to rest on her belly* well little one *she said outloud but more to the child inside her* Looks like its gonna be a complicated few weeks. but im sure will both be okay

The sleek Romulan Theta class swift courier decloaked off the starboard bow of the USS Hope. The vessel carried Romulan Ambassador Tedak ir-Saj'sihaer tr'H'Rhinann, who was assigned to the Hope for upcoming mission, under orders from Admiral Hunter, assistant director of DCS. "USS Hope, this is Diplomatic Vessel ChH Aidoann requesting permission to dock," Tedak called, after opening a comlink to the Federation training vessel. ooc: this means I'm reporting for this mission, as requested by General Arok.

After the briefing, J'Leera made her way over to the bridge to begin acquainting herself with the layout. True, she was familar with the schematics from the ship, but until she was able to get a feel for the ship, it just wasn't the same.
A few junior officers were present and busy doing their assigned tasks. J'Leera nodded to them, but did not pay them much mind. She instead accessed the ship's library and began researching relevant data concerning their upcoming mission before the Captain's meeting. The mission sounded fairly 'safe,' but she knew from past experiences that so-called 'safe' missions could quickly become quite the oposite.
Just as she was finishing the first segment in her study, alarms suddenly began going off around the bridge. She jumped up from her seat and went to investigate. She quickly realized that the problem was in Engineering at that the warp core was going critical.
She slapped her commbade, "Engineering! What's happening down there?"
"It's the warp core," she heard Lieutenant Colonel Q2 say. "We're attempting to shut it down now, but are also preparing to dump it, if it comes to that."
Tag: Q2
J'Leera nodded, "Understood. Keep me informed! Laika out!" She then contacted Captain Savali, "Captain! Ambassador Tedak has already arrived. I suggest that we ask him to back off until we resolve this situation."

"Tedak to USS Hope, do you require assistance?" Tedak cried into his comlink, as he saw the Federation vessel start drifting away from the spacedock. He was reading massive energy build-ups and he was quite sure that they were unintentional. His diplomatic vessel would not be large enough to beam over all of the crew, but there was space for at least the command staf.
"USS Hope, do you copy!" he cried. Beside him, Nut was hopping up and down nervously on one of the consoles, though he was careful not to touch any of the buttons. He chirped questioningly, looking up at Tedak, his eyes whirling orange in alarm. "Yes I know little friend," Tedak almost whispered, "we will just wait here until they contact us with further instructions."

Since Tiffani didn’t answer, J’Leera assumed that she was busy at the moment and decided to warn the Ambassador’s shuttle off. The last thing they needed was for an accident to occur and have the shuttle damaged, perhaps injuring the Ambassador.
“Ensign!” she called out to the communications officer. “Get me the Ambassador’s shuttle on screen!”
“Aye, Commander,” he said. Moments later, the Ambassador appeared on screen.
“Ambassador, this is Commander Laika, the XO,” she said. “As you can probably see, we’re having problems with our warp core. I strongly recommend that you back off to a safe distance while we make repairs.”
Tag: Tedak
“That would be wise,” she agreed. “We'll keep you informed of our situation. Hope out.”
The viewscreen went blank and J’Leera again tried to contact Captain Savali, hoping that this time she would be able to.

Tedak nodded and modified his course so that his shuttle swerved away from the USS Hope. Beside him, Nut gave him a smug look, as if he had known all along that they would not be able to board yet.
"Acknowledged USS Hope," he replied, "thank you for the quick response. I would not like to get pancaked on your hull because of a miscalculation or another reason, nor on the inside of your shuttlebay. Please inform me when I am able to board. I have medical training, call on me when needed, I have two hands, I can help." Nut chittered. "Ah, and so can my lovely pet, Nut. He can carry things."
<J'Leera>
Tedak thought about his family, and suddenly found it a not so bad idea to move his shuttle to a safe distance. "Please inform me," he repeated, "Tedak out."

The ship, Q2 now knew was floating away from the starbase. From the other side of engineering, he could hear Tayna snapping orders at a few members of his staff, trying something else.
Q2 meanwhile was working at trying to equalise everything, but there seemed to be some kind of outside controlling factor. He shouted across engineering.
"Tayna, what's the possibility of dumping looking like now?"
"We're good to dump if we need to."
The Lt Colonel set up a fast simulation. Calculating how far they needed to be from the core and from the station gave him an approximate value for how much longer they had to fix it.
"Okay guys, we have 140 seconds." He shouted out loud, causing everyone to redouble their efforts. Q2 himself had given up on his computer console, and was now halfway up a staircase, trying to get to the top tier, and on top of the warp core. Once he was there, he accessed a slightly more direct console, which could manually close individual panels and doors. He studied the status of them all for a couple of seconds.
Closing a small selection of them seemed to regain the balance for a couple of seconds, but then it lost it again. He frowned. It should have worked, it should have levelled it. Suddenly an idea.
"Tayna, check for outside elements in the core."
"Aye boss." While the his deputy worked on that, Q2 tried another few combinations of hatch openings, but none made any difference.
"Colonel, we got an outside element. Trihexane."
Q2 swore loudly. "We're not going to nail this one. Everyone, out!" He shouted over the alarms, and then activated a new one, that overrode all the others. As he set it off, he slid back down the stairs. The large main bay doors for the department had slid down halfway, and Q2 stood just inside them, watching everyone out. Once he was sure they were all clear, he checked for lifesigns on the computer. Registering only his, he tapped the relevant button, and the door slid down the rest of the way, Q2 now on the other side.
Once the department was shut off, he activated the dumping procedure, then tapped his commbadge.
=/\= There was nothing we could do I'm afraid Captain, I've set the dumping procedure in action. =/\=
=/\= We heard it all Colonel, you did your best. =/\=
=/\= It wasn't enough. The new core will set us back 12 hours with it's installation. =/\=

Vegeta "Prepare for warp burst on my mark relase the warp core 3.2.1"
the Ohio Jumped to warp for a short burst.
Vegeta "3.2.1 mark."
the Ohio lets the core fly lose as the Ohio banks hard to the port and jumps back to warp to clear the blast zone..
Traks "Well that was fun."
Vegeta "You think that's fun you should ride with me in the Advenger some time with me...(Give a Klingon smerk) setting course back to the Hope"

12 hours later, and after a lot of hard work from Q2 and the whole of the engineering team, the new warp core had been installed. Something, he wasn't quite sure what it had been, but something had made him decide that he had wanted to oversee the whole procedure, which meant that he had now not slept properly in over 100 hours. He yawned loudly, and his Tayna, who had just returned from his break looked over at him.
"You wanna rest boss?" He asked with a grin.
"Yeah, I think I do. I'll just go check in with our good captain first. You have engineering."
He made his way up to the bridge, and walked over to Captain Savali.
"Sorry about that Ma'am. It turns out that there was a rogue element in the core that was destabilising it. There was nothing I could do. However, the new warp core has now been installed, and we are ready to proceed on your orders."

After reading the reports from Engineering, J'Leera concluded that things were now safe for the Ambassador. Since Captain Savali was busy with other duties, J'Leera took it upon herself to inform Ambassador Tedak and let him know that it was safe to come aboard.
Something about this incident kept nagging her however. How could a perfectly working warp core suddenly go critical? she wondered. She hated to think it, but she wondered if there was something more sinister afoot. Suppose the warp core had gone critical while the Ambassador was onboard? Suppose the Engineering crew had been unable to deal with the problem in time?
She shook her head, those were too many maybes. Things had gone alright and they were able to correct the problem, but the timing of it just seemed too strange. She made a note to herself to assign extra security to the Ambassador while he on board. So far there seemed to be no indication of foul play, but one could never be too sure.
