J’Leera was up on the bridge early that morning, for they had arrived at the Neutral Zone and were taking care of last minute details for the mission. As planned, the USS Cincinnati was there waiting for them.
“Hail the Cincinnati,” she ordered. Moments later, Captain Frenz answered. “It’s good to see you, Captain Laika.”
“It’s good to see you too,” she smiled. “Now, I’ve been told that your warp core is under repairs due an overload. How is that coming?”
“Very slowly I’m afraid,” he answered. “Much of our engineering crew is in sickbay with various injuries, so we’re short staffed. If you could spare some of your crew, we’d be most grateful.”
“Of course,” she nodded. “Starfleet indicated that you most would need that. We can have a team ready to go right within the hour. ”
“Thank you, Captain. We’ll prepare to meet your team in our shuttlebay, Cincinnati out.”
J’Leera nodded to the comm. officer who closed the channel. "Laika to Q2. I need an engineering crew sent down to the USS Cincinatti to help with repairs."
Tag: Q2
She stood up and headed for the turbolift, wanting to see the away team off. When she arrived, she saw that the team had already assembled and we going through last minute weapons checks. She called over Rye to speak to him briefly.
“Here,” she handed him a small camera. “This can hook to your phaser rifle. I’d like you to carry it, so that I can keep an eye on your progress. The camera is heavily encrypted based on intelligence data given by the Romulan defector, so that it won’t be detected.”
He nodded and took the device, attaching it to the underside of the rifle. Its mass was so light, that he couldn’t tell any difference in the balance of the weapon. “Very good, Captain. Now, if you’ll excuse us, we have a defector to rescue,” he grinned.
She smiled and stepped back, watching them board the shuttlecraft. Colonel Traks was among the last to board and he stopped briefly as she wished him luck.
Tag: Traks
After they had gone, she headed back to the bridge and turned out a console and started to watch the live video feed. At first she didn’t see much, but then she realized that Rye had the camera facing the ceiling. She went back to her chair and settled in, preparing for the long wait.

Rye and the team slowly moved foreward, and observed everything. Rye went to take out his tricorder, but Traks suggested that it might make them detectable. Instead, Rye used his rifle's onboard systems to run scans.
"Ok. I've got two Romulans about 30 meters away, SE direction."Rye whispered. While these were explosive powered, the weapons had special silencerss built-in to deaden the sound for espionage purposes. Rye and the team took cover inside the forest, and waited. Rye signalled the others that they were dead ahead. The Romulans appeared in front of them, looking for them seemingly. Rye signalled fire. The bullets hit both guards, and they fell to the ground. Traks went to the bodies and took their scanning devices and weapons. These were probably designed to operate under the dampening field. Traks kept one, and handed the other to Vegeta.
The team continued on, and reached the edge of the forest. They saw the gray structure of the Romulan base, unfortunately, according to the information on the Romulan scanners this was not the side that would need to be monitored. The group unfortunately had to move through hard terrain in order to get to the side where Koval was going to be waiting. They would hae to trek several Kilometers in order to get around without being detected.

Early this morning, Koval received a coded mission that the team was on its way and should arrive at Cetus 4 within 6 hours. Excellent, he thought and made his way to the security station on base. Because of his high clearence, he had no difficulty obtaining access and before long, he was inside disabiling the security nets and the monitors.
Because he could not completely shut them down, he set them on extremely low settings. Even if these Starfleet officers were complete fools, they could not set it off, he told himself.
The plan was for them to meet in a small clearing just outside the compound toward the south. The team should have been given the exact coordinates to the clearing, so he didn't worry about it.
Now that everything was set and ready to go, he grabbed a small handphaser and a datapadd and headed out. He took a small land vehicle from storage and left the compound, claiming to be on an investigation. Since Koval often did this, (he built up this excuse for months by frequently conducting "investigations" about the security measures on the planet) no one suspected anything. The guards simply opened the gates and allowed him to leave.
He drove his small vehicle away at full speed toward the clearing, which was half a kilometer from the base. When he arrived, he carefully hid the vehicle in the brush and waited. While he did, he took out some equipment from the vehicle's storage area and began to scan the field, that way if anyone came upon him, he would be able to explain why he was there.
After a while, he put the scanner back and began to go through the data that he had collected. It was still early morning, but by that time it was becoming very hot and uncomfortable. Normally high temperatures didn't bother him, but the humidity was stiffling. There was a small sheet in the back that he used to make a tent. The shade helped some by keeping the sun's rays off, but it didn't help with the humidity. Before long he was drenched in sweat, but fortunately for him, the vehicle held a good supply of water.
After the results were in from his scans, he heard a low rumble off in the distance. It sounded like thunder, but he couldn't be sure. He stood up and went to the edge of the cliff and looked out over the horizon. There was a storm coming and it was thunder that he had heard. He frowned, not knowing where this storm had come from. According to weather projections, the front was supposed to swing further south and completely miss them. Now, it has apparently moved further north and the storm was heading straight towards them.
He looked back toward his small tent, knowing that it would never hold up. Storms on Cetus 4 were well-known to be very dangerous, so he would have to leave. There was a storage facility a few kilometers to the north that he could camp out in, but the Federation team was surely on its way by now and he needed a way to contact them.

J'Leera watched the video feed from her ready room privately. So far, things seemed to be going according to plan and all was well. For the most part, things were very quiet in the group, which was to be expected. They didn't seem nervous at all and they seemed very well coordinated, working togeather as a team perfectly. They certainly have been trained very well, she thought.
She watched as the shuttle made its descent and plunged into the planet's atmosphere. She briefly caught glimpses of the viewscreen as the camera was rocked about by the turbulence in the atmosphere, but soon that quieted as they landed in the middle of a dense rainforest. There were only a few such clearings and Koval had provided them with the coordinates of that location since the sensor net was the weakest at that point.
As soon as they had landed, she saw the marines running past as every got off the shuttle craft. Not long after, they were making their way to the rendezvous point.
So far, so good she breathed, watching the screen carefully. If anything were to happen, then they would have to break the video feed immediatly and they would be on their own. She couldn't communicate with them directly anymore, since communications would likely be detected. The video feed was okay since since the data stream was much smaller and harder to detect. Even though, she knew there were still a few risks.
After a while, she noticed a large grey building coming up through the trees. She realized that it was the Romulan base and that the team was getting close. The rendezvous point was further off, so she decided to check to see how the engineering crew was doing.

"Damn!"Rye said aloud as they approached the clearing where Koval was supposed to be. The team swept the area, and discovered slight disturbances in the branches. A path of a vehicle was clearly visible now. The team followed the path for several hours, and finally saw the vehicle up ahead. In the time they were travelling, the team had to fend off a few indiginous animals, and bare the rain. Now they could get this all over with. They approached the vehicle, and saw nothing. The team turned around, and saw several Romlan troops appear from the bushes. Right next to them, seven more uncloaked, and had weapons raised.
The Marines dropped their weapons, and put their hands up.
"Damn!"

The entire marine team was forced to be led by the romulans back to the base. Traks was putting up somme resistance, but it appeared to be futile. As they were being marched through the forest, the Romulan in the lead stopped. He turned and conversed with a subordinate. As they were discussing, a figure came out of the forest. It was another Romulan.
"Sir. We have captured several Federation prisoners." The lead man said.
"Very good. They may have been trying to extricate me to get the secrets of the Tal-Shiar." The other man said.
The new man slowly moved towards each of the team, and examined them. He walked up to Commander Fitzpatrick, and spoke.
"I presume that you are in command of this team."
"I am." Rye said.
"That is very good. Take this then." he said as he handed the Commander a disruptor pistol. Rye hid it and continued standing. The man continued on his rounds, and walked back to the lead. Rye took a mental count of the troops. 3 at the front, and 4 at the rear. At their pace, a 10 second detonation would eliminate all 4 guards at the rear, and allow the team to assault the front three. Rye showed the pistol to Traks, and Traks signalled the rest of the team. Rye initialized the detonation, and dropped the pistol. The team walked past it, and just as the 4 guards walked over the pistol, it detonated, blowing all of the men into trees. Rye and Traks ran to the front, and tackled the three on the front. Rye knocked out one, and Traks took out the other two. The Romulan who gave them the pistol came out of the trees, and clapped.
"Very good. Commander, my name is Koval, and I believe you are here to extricate me." The man said.
[coor=blue]"Indeed. Lets get going then. I'm Commander Fitzpatrick, this is Colonel Traks." Rye said.
Koval nodded, and the team took all of the Romulans weapons, and vaporized the troops to not leave evidence. Now, the team quickly returned to their shuttle, and left the planet smoothly, with Vegeta at the helm.
After a few hours, Rye sent a signal to the Hope, and contacted Captain Laika.
(=/\=)"Hawkeye to USS HOPE."
"Hope here, go ahead Hawkeye." J'leera said.
We have acquired the objective, and are returning to the rendez-vous."
"Understood, Hawkeye."
"Very well. Hawkeye out."
The shuttle sped towards the Hope, and waited the next part of the mission."

Koval quickly made his way to the abandoned warehouse to await the team’s arrival. Things seemed to be going well so far, but he wasn’t willing to take any unessary changes. He had brought a communications receiver along with him, so that he could monitor any transmissions between guards and from headquarters to see if anyone noticed his disappearence or if the team had been spotted. It was unlikely that anyone would notice that he were gone for quite a while, but he couldn’t speak for the Federation team. For all he knew, they were a bucn of bumbling fools who could trip a security net that a Terran elephant couldn’t. That’s a rather poor attitude of the Federation, he thought to himself. I’ll have to remedy that.
BEAP BEAP the monitor went off. “We’ve just spotted a group of spies heading away from the base. Request reinforcements to intercect,” he heard a guard say.
He swore and jumped to his feet knowing what the guard was talking about. Before long he was out the door and on the lookout for the team.
“We’ve captured a group of Federation spies!” he heard the guard report not bothering to hide the disgust in his voice. He then heard the orders from headquarters. “Just execute them. We don’t need to bother with them.”
Now he knew that he’d have to take matters into his own hands. Because noone knew what he was planning, he quickly found the guard and the team and took over.
He then watched, very pleased how Rye was able to take out all of the guards. Soon the firefight was over and they were free to leave.
"Very good. Commander, my name is Koval, and I believe you are here to extricate me. Perhaps now would be a good time to contact your ship?”
Rye nodded and began to set up the equipment.

So far their cover story of assisting with repairs on the USS Cincinnati were going very well, almost too well. No ships had passed by or had even come close since they had arrived, not Romulan and not Federation. She kept getting the feeling that something was wrong and that she needed to keep her eyes open, but could find nothing amiss.
The team on Cetus 4 seemed to be doing very well last time she checked, so she went into the ready room for something to drink while she looked over repair reports from the Cincinnati. It was tedious work, but someone had to do it.
As soon as she settled in with her drink and a pile of reports to read, one of her officers barged in with bad news from the away team.
“They’ve been captured Captain!” he exclaimed.
“What?” her mouth nearly dropped open. Putting her drink down, she hurried back onto the bridge and watched the video feed.
“We’ve already cut communications, this is recorded video,” the officer stated, playing it back for her and she watched in horror as the team was ambushed by a group of Romulan soldiers. When it was over, she immediately went back into the ready room to alert Starfleet of these new developments. As she was preparing to do so, the officer came back stating that communications had been re-established by one of the team members and that they wished to speak to her.

OFF - Well, this is an attempt to get the mission going again. Unfortunately, I don't know what our next objective is, so I can't start that up. Let's get all of the crew back on track!
ON - Vegeta flew the flyer smoothly into the Hope's shuttlebay. Just as the doors behind them closed, the ship flew to warp 4, as she flew off to the next phase os her mission. Rye stepped out of the Hawkeye with Koval, and they walked out of the shuttlebay. While keeping a cheerful face (but not too cheerful), Rye escorted Koval up to Captain Laika.
(=/\=)"Commander Fitzpatrick to Captain Laika."

"I have Koval, and I am escorting him to the bridge. Would you like to go to the ready room, or the observation lounge?"

"Understood. I'm on my way, Fitzpatrick out."(=/\=)
Rye brought the defector up to the bridge, and walked into the _______.
"Captain Laika. This is Admiral Koval."

J'Leera had just finished reporting to Starfleet of their successful mission when she received a message from Rye. She was very pleased with the results, but something kept nagging her. The mission seemed too easy, but maybe she was just imagining things. (=/\=)"Commander Fitzpatrick to Captain Laika." "Laika here, go ahead," she responded, having a good idea of what he was going to ask. "I have Koval, and I am escorting him to the bridge. Would you like to go to the ready room, or the observation lounge?" "Bring him to the observation lounge," she said. "Have him transported there along with yourself and a few guards. Use your discretion in the number of guards needed," she told him, realizing that he knew Koval better than she did at that point. "Understood. I'm on my way, Fitzpatrick out."(=/\=) Immediately she went to the observation lounge and was pleased to see that Rye, several guards and the Romulan stood there waiting. "Captain Laika. This is Admiral Koval." She nodded in his direction. "I trust that everything went according to plan?" she asked him. "It went fairly well, although we did run into a few minor problems," Koval answered. "But I'm sure that you'd rather hear about that from your first officer." "We'll get to that in a moment," she said. "But first I want to make a few things clear to you," she paused for a moment and then continued. "You obviously are not supposed to be here, so the less that you're seen the better. I'm having a section of the ship quarentened for the time being and that's where you'll be." "Under constant guard right?" "I think you know the answer to that," J'Leera replied. "A wise choice, Captain," Koval nodded. "One that I too would have if I had been in your place." "Very good, in that case you'll be transported now there immediately," she turned and nodded to the guards. Moments later they disappeared in the transporter beam and J'Leera turned to Rye. "Okay, so how did things really go for your team down there?" TAG: Rye

Koval enjoyed the brief rest that he got on the way to the Hope. So far everything was going according to plan and these Starfleet did not suspect a thing. He smiled to himself, thinking how surprised that they were going to be.
After they reached the ship he wasn't surprised at all at the Captain's request to have him transported to their meeting area instead of walking him through the ship for everyone to see. Wise choice, Captain, he thought.
Even though he would have liked the opportunity to get acquainted with the ship a little better and perhaps scope out a few 'possibilities', he realized that it would have to wait until later.
When he met Captain Laika, he still wasn't surprised by her suspicicioun of him, but he seriously doubted that she knew of his true mission. After being placed in his quarters with several guards outside (none where in the room), he began to put his plan in motion.

Rye had left the Lounge after introducing Koval to Captain Laika. Something felt a little odd however, so he had a security guard stand outside the door. Rye sat in the command chair as the vessel sped towards Gamma Elopei III. They were there to take on supplies from the Starbase there.
***
Rye saw the vessel drop out of warp on the main viewscreen, and felt the impulse engines slight rumble as she began to enter the Gamma Elopei solar system. After 3 minutes, the Nebula class vessel approached the third planet. The Starbase there was of a newer design, smaller, and more efficient.
"Lt. Scott, open communication frequency 802.11k, and put it on audio."
"Aye, sir" The young female replied.
(=/\=)"This is Commander Fitzpatrick, of the USS Hope, we are prepared to dock, and take on supplies, and crew rotation."
"Confirmed, Commander Fitzpatrick. Prepare to dock at Bay 1. Our outer doors opening now.
"Thank you. Hope Out. (=/\=) Mr Jenkins, take us in, full thrusters."
"Aye, sir."
The Hope slowly entered the perimeter of Starbase 1287. Jenkins manoevured the vessel into position, and set thrusters to station keeping. Several umbillical cords connected to the Hope's secondary hull, and pressurized. The lights on the bridge dimmed to blue, and the excess crew stood up, and left the bride, leaving a skeleton crew on the bridge. Rye, Scott and Jenkins remained, and monitored the shipboard systems, as the crew enjoyed the facilities of the starbase. It had been several hours since he left Koval with the Captain, and they hadn't exited yet. Rye decided to join the conversation temporarily. He got up from his chair, and walked to the entrance to the lounge. He activated the buzzer, and the door opened. J'Leera and Koval both were seated where he had left them, still conversing.
"Yes, Commander, what would you like?"
"Captain, we've docked at Starbase 1287, and are taking on supplies now. Is everything going ok?"
"Yes, thank you Rye. You're in command until we finish, and after I have slept." J'leera said with a weary expression on her face.
"Very well, Captain. Koval."
Rye exited the lounge, and sat back in the command seat.
***
Time went by, as the ship lay motionles in dock. finally, crew began to spill into the bridge, and resume their stations.
(=/\=)"Hope, this is Starbase 1287, all personnel and supplies are on board, you are cleared to leave dock."
"Understood, Starbase, thank you. Hope out. (=/\=)Mr. Jenkins, initialize impulse engines, and initialize warp engines. Take us out, speed 1/4 impulse, and set course for Alpha Theta VI, at Warp 2."
"Aye, sir."
The Hope's engines initialized, and she slowly left the superstructure of the base. the vesel then rotated, and tilted up, and engaged the ward drive systems.
The bridge had resumed the normal hustle and bustle of normal operations. Rye had become somewhat tired, not having rested since the morning of the day before. He still payed a vague attention to the viewscreen, and waited to be relieved. Captain Laika and Koval exited the lounge, and both exited the bridge via the turbolift.
(=/\=)"Vegeta, please report to the bridge."

OFF - Quite frankly, I'm tired of the lack of posting of all involved. I will seemingly finish this mission myself. I will forego any tags, and just write in any people's parts.
ON
Rye left the bridge as he transferred command over to Vegeta. He stepped into the turbolift, and went to his quarters, where he prepared for bed. He collapsed onto his matress as a result of exhaustion, and slept for a solid 9 hours.
The next morning, he awoke to see his footboard 2 inches from his nose. He shook his head as he got up, and stepped into the living area. He made himself a small breakfast of grapefruit and apple, and went into the sonic shower. He was in it only for moments, as he had had a shower the night before. He got his uniform on, and went up to the bridge to see Q2 sitting in the Captain's chair. Rye relieved him, and sat down in the chair. Q2 went to the engineering console to monitor the ship. The Hope was still en-route to Alpha Theta VI, and would be there in about 12 hours. Rye tapped a few commands into the console at his seat, and checked the location of Koval. It appeared he was in his quarters, sleeping, judging from vital signs. Rye sat back, and stared blankly at the viewscreen.
All of a sudden, an alert went off. "Commander, according to sensors, there is an airborn pathogen infiltrating the ship's air. unable to neutralize it."
"Where is it Holiart?"
"Deck 4-15, sections Alpha 1 to Delta 32.
"How did it get around so fast without our detection?"
"Unknown, sir.
Well then, Red alert, initialize quarantine procedures, and seal off all decks."
As Rye said that, J'leera entered the bridge, very worried.
"Commander, report."
"Captain, there is an airborn pathogen that is spreading through the ship like wildfire, areas that are affacted are..Lt.?"
"All decks, all sections are now picking up traces of the pathogen, including the bridge, sir."
"We have a real problem here, Captain. We must find a cure, or something. But I bet Koval can help us out. I guarantee you that he did this."
"You're probably right. We need to get him up here. (=/\=) Laika to security, escort Koval up here, now."
"Aye, Mamn.(=/\=)
Rye and J'leera moved into the Ready Room, and waited for Koval to be moved in. Rye had been fuming, and was gritting his teeth. He watched as Koval non-chilantly sauntered into the room, escorted by two annoyed security officers.
"You're dismissed" Rye said curtly to the guards. As they walked out, Rye took a look at Koval. After a few seconds, he punched the Romulan in the face. Koval flew to the ground, and looked back at the First Officer, with a seemingly lack of giving a damn. He picked himself back up, and sat in the second chair in front of Captain Laika's chair. Rye went back to the corner and watched as J'leera interrogated him
"What did you do? Why did you lie to us and infect us with this pathogen.?"
"Well, I suppose that this is obvious, isn't it? I may have been informing Starfleet of some information to prevent war, but I am not a traitor. Didn't you notice how easy you all escaped from a Tal Shiar facility? If they really wanted to stop you, your entire team would now be dead, along with everyone else on this...ship. However, that will happen now anyways, thanks to your arrogance."
"What is the pathogen going to do?"
"Oh, you'll find out in due time. I belie...
During mid-statement, an Ops office came into the ready room.
"Commander. I found this in the turbolift. It must be what spread the pathogen throughout the ship."
Rye examined the device. It was very small, and was definitely Romulan in design.
"Beautiful. Take this down to Dr. MacKenzie, and have her examine it."
The Ops officer ran out of the room, and jumped into the turbolift. Rye looked back towards Koval. Well, I'm guessing that you are immune to this little pathogen of yours, right?"
"Oh, quite the contrary. I will die, just as you will. And you WILL die"
Rye looked at him for a moment, and then tapped his combadge. (=/\=)"Fitzpatrick to security. Please escort Koval to the brig, under heavy guard. At least 3 armed guards, in different positions. He watched as the guards came in to the ready room, and pulled Koval out of the room.
"Well, we've got to do something. We should have all labs trying to develop some sort of cure for whatever this does. Hopefully, it won't be too late."
"Yes, have Dr. MacKenzie take charge of all of this, please."
"Aye, mamn."

Q2 sighed. He was sure being poisoned and killed wasn't part of his agenda for the day, but then he was never great with agendas. He looked over towards the ready room, where Commander Fitzpatrick and Captain Laika were. He sighed once more, then walked over, and tapped the call button. The chime rang out twice before anyone replied.
"Come." J'Leera's voice was hard, and fed up. The el-aurian marine stepped in through the door. He looked at the command pair. They were both looking raggéd, Q2 felt sorry for them.
"I know a marine doctor. He is good with these things."
"We would be putting another man to his death."
"Give them the option. It could save everyone here."
"We have our own doctors."
Q2 sighed. He knew it would be a hard sell, but he also wanted to live, and honestly believed that this doctor was their best chance.
"Come on, at least see if the doctor would be willing to do it."
"What is his name." Commander Fitzpatrick asked with a slight sigh.
"Her name is Major Faith Spiller. She is a damned good doctor. Contact her, she is on Andros Prime."

After hearing Q2's suggestion, Rye went down to Sickbay to see how things were going with finding a cure. Dr. MacKenzie reported that she had had no luck with developing anything capable of neutralizing the pathogen.
Worried, Rye went to his offive, and contact Dr. Spiller on Andros Prime.
"Dr. Spiller, this is Commander Fitzpatrick of the USS Hope."
"Yes, Commander, what may I do for you?"
"Mr. Q2, our engineer has suggested that you may be able to help us with a somewhat dire situation. A Romulan captive has released an airbourne pathogen, and infected the entire crew. We would like to request your assistance. However, if you are unable to help us, you will also die of the disease after you're infected."
"Well, Commander. I feel obligated to help you. Please come to my location. I will be en-route to you, so we will meet quickly."
"I very much appreciate this Doctor."
Rye ran up to the bridge, and had the Helm Officer lay in a course to Andross Prime at Maximum Warp. Rye then went into the Captain's Ready Room, where he informed Captain Laika of the situation.
***
About 2 hours later, the Hope rendez-voused with Dr. Spiller's shuttle. She came on board, and began to work with Dr. MacKenzie. Within hours, they had found a cure. This was fortunate, as many crewman were beginning to exhibit some bad symptoms from the disease.
Once the crew had regained their health, the ship docked at Gomrey Prime's orbital facilities, the crew were disenfected, and the ship underwent a baryon sweep. The Hope then arrived at Starbase Conqueror, where they allowed their guest to depart into a Federation brig. Rye and J'leera were proud of their accomplishment.
OFF - Well, after about 8 months, the mission is done.

J'Leera picked up the PADD that lay in front of her. On it was a detailed report of everything that had happened on their mission. She sighed and lay in back down. Having this sort of responsibility was far more difficult than she had imagined, but it was worth it. Koval was now going to prison for a long time and perhaps later in the future, he might be persuaded to give up more information about his misison.
"I'm glad he failed," she thought as she re-read the report. Commander Fitzpatrick had done an excellent job in leading the away mission and she was very proud of him. She knew that she had picked correctly when his name came up for this position.
The others too did very well and thanks to the entire crew, no one was injured and that's something to be very grateful for. She knew that they had been very lucky and she also knew that she couldn't expect such good results in future missions, but she was confident that she would know what to do.
They were on their way back to the starbase where their mission would formally end and from there, she wasn't sure what would happen...
