Rex excused himself from the bridge, and headed for transporterroom one. He had instructed the crewman that took his place on the bridge, but she shouldn't have much work to do there, as Bonar had placed various encryption codes on the systems the pirates no doubtly were trying to break into right now.
While walking Bonar's mind flashed back to his own past, where he was a crewmember aboard the Orion vessel ChiÄrch. The configuration of the piratevessel they had captured was quite similar. That had probably triggered this memory.
Once they had been in sort of the same situation, except they got tractored in by a Romulan vessel. Rex remembered how the Romulans had tried to beam them over, but in anticipation of that they had placed stealth pattern enhancers everywhere on their ship. Furthermore they had equiped small discharges with biometric signs, who consequently were beamed up by the Romulans. Of course it didn't prevent them from being boarded in the end, but it had delayed the Romulans long enough for other vessels to come to their aid.
With a feeling of waking-up Rex found himself in front of the transporterroom. He pulled his uniform straight and entered the room. Here he saw Captain Jira en MCpt Hrisvalar standing on the side, while a team of mixed marines and security personnel provided the necessary fire-support. The Captain nodded to the ensign as he entered. Bonar walked up to the transporterconsole and double-checked the biometric readings, before giving the go-ahead to Jira.

Semia looked at the view screen and stared at the ship ahead of them puffing up her cheeks and sat down in the command chair.
Scratching the back of her head she wondered if this was a good idea to transfer she just gave birth for crying out loud.
"Ma'am" the secondary science officer handed her a padd
"Oh thank you" Semia looked up and blinked in surprise she wasn't used to the Nevada crew yet she knew few people on it ... she liked Mr Hrisvalar, there was a hind of rebelliouness in his eyes. she liked that in a crewmemeber then there was captian Jira... there was not only rebelliousness in the eyes but that lopsided grin as well.
Grinning to herself she sat adn waitined for captian Jira's return

After Mr Bonar had made the transport, five officers appeared on the transported pad. One made to reach for a weapon, and was promptly shot down by two marines and one security officer. Marine Captain Hrisvalar shot a glance at Ensign Bonar that clearly was conveying the fact that his officer's were superior to the bald human's.
Harrias liked competition, and hoped that this was all that was happening, he had spoken to them both discreetly, and they should have taken notice and toned down their level of aggression towards each other. If not, well, maybe some time together would sort them out a bit better, even this away mission, where they would both be serving.
The pirate command crew, which now numbered four, had just been checked for weapons and such, of which all were found to be carrying a vast majority, something which Rex had managed to discover when he checked a few of the places he recalled from his mercenary days. One all between him and the andorian then. The pirates were escorted into a nearby conference room. The walls were almost hidden such was the security. Harrias sat down, flanked by his marine officer and security officer. Opposite to them sat the pirates, with their captain also in the middle.
"Nice uniforms." The trill CO commented.
"Specially made."
"Don't doubt it. How much do you get for this run?"
The pirates looked at each other, wondering where this was leading. All mercenaries had a nose for profit, and the short orion's nose was smelling something now.
"Two million credits per run."
Harrias turned to his Security Chief about to ask how that compared to others, but the man was staring straight forward his eyes wide open.
"Something the matter Ensign?"
"The most we ever got for a run was 250,000 credits. This is big."
Harrias turned to the pirate captain.
"I will give you 4 million credits if you go ahead with the run as usual."
"What's the catch?"
"We will he a homing beacon on you, so we know where you are going."
"We could just tell you."
"You'd lie."
The orion shrugged, agreeing in a manner. Harrias smiled at him.
"You're money will be credited to you once you arrive at the drop off point. We'll know if you've gone to the wrong place. Mr Bonar here will install the device directly."
"We haven't agreed yet."
Harrias smiled at him. "Well, there is a nive penal colony on Terax IV." The orion sighed, then shrugged once more.
Harrias gave a slight nod to the security teams, and then left the room, the two senior staff members following him. The trill turned to Ensign Bonar.
"Will they play ball?"
<Rex>
"Alright. Wel go fix that device, and then report to the transporter room for the away mission."
Harrias made his way back up to the bridge, where Lt Cmdr Cavit relinguished her seat.
"Go on, be off with you XO. You got an away team to lead. Although, in your state I think I should be leading it really. We wouldn't want your child to have no mother." He said, his tongue firmly in his cheek.

The ensign took a second before replying to the Captain. "Well, sir I 'd have to say that depends. Of course it's a large amount of credits, and they know that the Federation usually keeps it's word. But seeing their entourage, these pirates aren't the poorest ones in the galaxy. Which usually corresponds well with their nose for profit. Would you give up a routiniously profit run, for one run which happens to be more profitable?"
"But they must know that their 'trade'-route is about to be closed down, not?", Jira replied.
"Well, I'll try to convince the crew of that, when I install the device, sir"
"Alright. Wel go fix that device, and then report to the transporter room for the away mission."
<Somewhat later on the pirateship>
Bonar was watched very closely by the pirate captain. He tried to ignore the eyes burning in his back. While installing the device, which actually was a routine-job, he made it look as if he had trouble.
"Ahh, why won't you fit. It's not like your a cardassian death trap", Rex mumbled aloud. He rolled up the sleeves of his uniform, and by doing so 'accidently' exposing a few of his marking tattoos.
The piratechief was stunned to say the least: "You used to be one of us. I see the markings of the ChiÄrch-ship on your arm. I didn't know any member of her crew was still alive."
Bonar turned to the captain, and smiled in a sarcastic way: "Well, let's just say i got out before it was too late".
The captains eyes suddenly turned angry. You're the traitor. You should be dead along with the rest of that fine crew. I will personally see to it that that mistake is rectified.
The piratecaptain drew his disruptorpistol and aimed at the ensign's back.
Bonar wasn't the least surprised by the captain's response. In fact, this was the real reason he had to run from the Syndicate. He never had been a traitor, but he simply didn't make it to the ship on time. He had been in female-compagny which distracted him so much, that he forgot to report to his station. The ChiÄrch was destroyed only a minute after undocking from the tradingstation Naron 4. Other Orions concluded that he had betrayed his crew, something piratecode strictly prohibited (unless it was extemely profitable to do so).
"I'm no traitor captain. I should kill YOU for implying that. However, if you shoot me now, don't think for a minute that you'll get out of this alive. As you can see here, I've taken the liberty of planting explosives along with the trackingdevice. Unless I put them on hold every five minutes, you won't make it either. So I suggest you save your act of vengeance for another occassion."
Grudgy the captain holstered his piece. As Bonar walked past the vagebond, he whispered to him:
"I suggest you keep your end of the deal captain. Our starfleetcaptain may think you will comply, but I make sure you actually do. If there's any unanticipated action from your side, you will evaporate instantly. Starfleet will not know what happened to you. And to me you're just another cross on my wall, so be very, very carefull captain."
Without turning back, the ensign walked away and transported a few meters from the captain.
In the transporterroom the others were already waiting...

Semia keep her smart @ss comment to herself to Jira's comment , and nodded. "Yes sir"
She reached the transporter room where the security and since detail where waiting , john Mcduff was there with a tricorder looking happy , a little oddly happy to her
"So where is our acting ensign ? " Semia asked
Hrisvalar looked at her and shrugged "Dunno"
Sighing she rolled her eyes and shook her head
Then he stepped in 3 minutes late "Sorry ma'am"
Semia merely glanced at him and nodded "Be on time next time"
"Yes ma'am" He nodded
(sorry I'll finnish this in the morning )

The trill captain almost burst out laughing when he saw the reaction of his first officer, but she managed to sotp herself from saying anything stupid, so he stopped himself laughing. Once she had left the bridge he knew that the terrible waiting game was going to start again. He still had the pirate crew in the shuttlebay, so that would keep him amused for a while, but nothing like the amount of time the away team would be on planet for.
=/\= Lt Cmdr Cavit to Captain Jira. =/\=
=/\= Aye Commander? =/\=
=/\= Just to tell you that we're beaming down sir. =/\=
Harrias smiled. =/\= Thank you, and good luck. Harrias out. =/\=
As soon as the link was closed, he indicated for the helmsman to come with him, as he went back down to the room they had left the pirates in. As he stepped in, the three returned to their seats, from the huddled conversation they had been having. Harrias glanced at the guards, in question, but they shrugged innocently.

Cavit, McDuff, Hrisvalar, Bonar along with 3 security officers and two marines had beamed down. They were back on the same spot as the previous away team initialy had landed.
It should be safe for them to transport nearer to the complex, however the captain hadn't been willing to take that risk.
The team made their way to the outer perimeter of the compound. MCapt. Hrisvalar and his two marines had taken point. Bonar had ordered his security men to guard the flanks, while he and Lt. commander Cavit formed the rearguard of the team.
This time, the complex should be on alert. However, if McDuff and Hrisvalar had done their job properly, then there shouldn't be much hassle with the automated security systems.

Zhuk’s most senior NCO was at point. SSgt Jason Carerra was surveying his approach to the facility. Off to his rear left flank was Sgt Stephanie Stevens, while Zhukarak was on the right. Zhuk remembered Stevens’ file. She had come up through the ranks to become a marine sniper. She really relishes her craft and takes great pride in being able to outshoot almost all she comes across. Today, however, she was carrying the standard issue plasma rifle, which is just as deadly in her capable hands, instead of her sniper rifle.
Commanders Mcduff and Cavit where more or less in the middle of their formation with Ensign Bonar and his security team bringing up the rear. The two commanders had their individual phaser pistols holstered while they were busy scanning the area with their respective tricorders.
The security team was in a diamond formation behind them with Bonar at the lead. Zhuk observed that the trailing security member kept their rear in view at all times. They didn’t need any surprises coming up from behind.
This part of the facility looked deserted, but the away team still approached with care.
Zhuk heard both tricorders give off a warbling sound when Commander Cavit issued a “Hold!” order. All marines and security members took up defensive positions immediately. Zhuk and Rex didn’t know what caused the tricorders to alarm, it could have been an indicator of major trouble or, if luck was on their side, something minor.
They are about to find out.

Harrias dropped down onto a seat on the opposite side of the table to the pirates.
"Right. We have rigged your vessel out as we told you. Now, if you will continue on your mission as usual, we will wire the payment through to an account of your choosing on completion."
"What about the delay?"
"Make something up, I'm sure you can deal with it."
The pirate grumbled but accepted this. The three stood up, and made their way out of the room, accompanied by the collection of guards. Harrias followed behind the group a short distance behind until they arrived back to the pirate's ship. A few minutes later, he was on the bridge, and a request for the shuttlebay doors the be opened came through. He accepted it himself, and then watched as the ship flew rapidly away from the ship, and then looked down at the console, and watched the dot moving away from their vessel.
The trill tapped his commbadge, and then wondered if it was a good idea. Nevertheless, it was too late now.
=/\= Lieutenant Commander Cavit here sir. =/\=
=/\= Commander, what is your status? =/\=

Two guards approached the away-team. Clearly they hadn't noticed the team, as they were engaged in conversation with each other.
Zhuk ordered ssgt Carrera and the female marine to move forward with caution. Their suites provided excellent cover against the background.
The two-men-patrol halted. Probably because they were assigned to this particular sector. They kept on conversing, while the two marines were no where to be seen anymore. The men obviously were paying no eye on their assigned perimeter.
The team sat quite and waited... Suddenly two shots were fired only a few meters away from the patrol. The men fell to the ground, only to be dragged into the bushes a few seconds later.
SSGT. Carrera issued the 'all-clear'-sign, and the team continued towards the complex.
The rest of the outside seemed to be deserted. And after a few scans it was verified that no security measures were present on the outside. This could only mean that there was more trouble to be expected within the building.

The team halted near the enterance of the complex. Commander Cavit looked on her tricorder, while the marines were placing explosives on the rather well part improvised/part repaired door.
"We're good to go, ma'm", the Andorian marine said to the XO.
"Understood Mr. Hrisvalar. Now we just have to wait for the pirate's. When they transport their goods, that'll be our window. Let's just hope they will be busy with the delivery in stead of security", she said with a somewhat concerned voice.
Rex wondered if her tone was caused by the being depended on pirates part, or simply post-pregnancy stuff. Anyway, the waiting seemed to last forever. Rex just hoped that the pirates hadn't seen through his bogus failsafe-device...
"OK..I'm getting a signal here", Commander McDuff interrupted the silence, "the transport is now in progress."
The new XO firmed her back:"Marineteam, prepare for assault. Whenever you're ready Zhuk."

The door blew wide open. Sergeant’s Carrera and Stevens entered first, taking out two guards, followed by Zhukarak and Rex. The room was clear. Commanders Cavit and McDuff entered, scanning the area with their tricorders. Zhuk remembered this room from their last assault here.
“Commander Cavit. There is a corridor over there. It leads to an underground complex. I’m presuming that it is there where the doctor was doing his research.”
“I’m getting some large power readings from below us. Most likely the equipment being used for his research.” McDuff continued his scans.
“There is a back room over there, seems to have been his office. Let’s search through it first before we continue on below. Rex, Zhuk, keep your people on alert while the rest of us are looking for whatever it is we are looking for.” With this order, Cmndr Cavit and the rest of the officers rifled through the paperwork in the office files.

Rick sat behind his console, in thought. Something he tended to do when his only job was to sit and wait for things to come, which wasn’t his favourite job. At this particular moment he was thinking about how he had to sit on his hands because the Nevada couldn’t move in closer as long as the planetary weapons system was active. This would be for at least half an hour, unless the away team was able to disable it sooner. If they would get into any trouble, there was nothing he or the Nevada could do. He didn’t doubt the abilities of John, but the weapons weren’t an objective for the away team. Suddenly, Rick was interrupted in his thoughts. “Sorry?” he said. “Is that the latest fashion trend?” Harrias asked. “What do you mean?” “Your jacket.” Only now Rick noticed he wore his jacket inside out. “Must have happened this morning, I was in a hurry.” Rick mumbeled, somewhat embarrased. “I know.” Harrias grinned, while Rick got his jacked right. OOC: A short one, and not really a contribution to the storyline, but I couldn’t think of something better and nobody noticed this detail in my first post…

Harrias stopped pacing for a couple of minutes. He wasn't feeling happy leaving the mission to others, he never did, especially a mother with a newborn child. There were far too many distractions. And, he had to admit, he could never trust other people to do a job, even though he knew his crew were perfectly able to do their jobs. He knew he'd only just got a report from them, but he was really tempted to tap his commbadge and speak to them again. Just as his arm was moving up towards his chest to tap his commbadge the ship rocked. He spun to the duty tactical officer.
"What was that?" His voice was laced with surprise and concern.
"A low level disruptor hit, compeltely emersed by the shields. It didn't hurt us, but it sure moved us."
"Where did it come from? The planet? The mercenary ship?"
"I'm still trying to figure that out sir."
Harrias stopped his pacing, and dropped back into his seat. There was nothing he could do until the tactical officer found something, but he could no longer just worry about the away team. He had the 700m person crew of a sovereign class vessel to worry about now. Of course, a small part of him said, Nerki had far more people to think about when she made her decisions. He tried to draw upon her knowledge on the matter, and while there was nothing pertinent to his current situation, he did calm down a lot more.
"It's from the planet sir." the tactical officer called out.
"But I thought we'd shut them down?"
"They're running a small defense shield and a cluster of weapons from an independent power source."
Harrias sighed. The planet was strictly non-aligned, with links to many governments, and trading agreements with more. An attack by a federation ship could have lasting implications.
"Open a channel to the planet's ruling body." he ordered.
"Captain, this planet is run by a series of lords, each having their own territories."
"Contact the Lord who is in charge of that one then." Harrias replied, trying to keep the annoyance out of his voice.
"Aye sir. That's Kramar Drujcke"
A man appeared on the viewscreen. He appeared to be terran, or at least partly terran, there was definitely something slightly alien about him. Most of these non-aligned trading planets were governed by ex-pirates and mercenaries, and Harrias suspected that was Lord Drujcke's past. Of course he would never admit so much, and quite likely had a very dignified but completely false history.
"Lord Drujcke." Harrias started with a slight nod.
"Captain, I am informed you are contacting me about cessation of hostilities?"
"You are well informed Lord. I was wondering why you were firing on a federation vessel. We have strong trade links with this planet. Surely the federation would be a big loss to your trading?"
"You have put an away team down onto my land without permission. That is an act of war."
"There is no such team on the planet." Harrias countered, his position weak, but tenable still.
"Unlikely. Remove yourself and your away team from my territory. Hostilities will continue until then. And my territory doesn't trade with you, so there is little you can do." He said, with a smug smile, before closing the link.
"Well" said Harrias, turning to the tactical officer, "looks like he just gave you the green light. Attack the source of the weapons fire with a light barrage of photon torpedoes. Let's try and break through the shield with as little loss of life as possible." As he spoke, another burst of fire hit them, causing the ship to shake heavily again.

Commanders McDuff and Cavit were going through Dr. Kaveks’ computer, scanning it with their tricorders. Marine Captain Hrisvalar was going through a second desk while Lieutenant Bonar was busying himself with some file cabinets. The marines were on post outside while the security detachment was inside covering the corridor leading to the rest of the complex.
McDuff: “I’ve downloaded some encrypted files. We can decode them when were back on the Nevada.”
Cavit: “Yes. Look at this. Looks like a log of transactions that he forgot to encrypt.”
McDuff: “Maybe we interrupted him when we came for him last time.”
Cavit: “There are just dates and the amount of credits that were transferred. Doesn’t tell us what for. Mmh.”
Zhukarak: “There doesn’t seem to be anything of value at this desk. I’m assuming this was where his secretary did her work, and she wasn’t keeping any data on anything Doctor Kavek was doing.”
Bonar: “I have something here. I think I’ve found the inventory lists that might correspond with that log of transactions that you’ve found. Looks like an inventory list for a weapons manufacturer. That’s all I can find here.
Cavit: “All right, gentlemen. I think we have spent enough time up here. Captain, get your marines to take point. We’re going down into the complex. Let’s see if we can’t find any of those weapons or whatever else he may have been building down there.”

Without any further prompting, the tactical officer engaged the weapons, targeting the source of the weapons fire. The torpedoes dropped down to their target, where a small explosion could be seen. The attack on the Nevada ceased. Harrias smiled; for once things seemed to be going his way. The communications officer turned to him.
"We are receiving a hail from the planet."
"Ignore it. Lieutenant Commander Sharpe, you're with me. Let's give the away team some assistance." He said, making his way to the turbolift. The helmsman followed him hastily, making sure to reach the lift before the doors slid closed. The two of them travelled down in silence, before it was broken by the helmsman.
"Captain, why are we leaving the ship with no command officers on board?"
"Because we need to extract the away team as fast as possible. Noone on the planet it meant to know about them. There are people on the ship who know how to command a ship, but no one can tell the away team they are in danger."
The helmsman obviously didn't see the logic, most probably because there wasn't any, Harrias just needed to be doing something rather than stewing away on the bridge while his officer's lives were on the line. Once they reached the transporter room, he grabbed a pair of phaser rifles, and thrust one into Rick's hands, before ordering that they be beamed as close to the away team as possible.
A few seconds later, they were on the planet surface, and the trill CO pulled his tricorder out, while the chief navigation officer checked for any hostile movements. Harrias glanced a couple of times at the tricorder, comparing what he read to what he could see. “That way.” He whispered pointing in the direction that the tricorder told him the away team was. The two of them moved through the undergrowth quickly, without much stealth knowing, thanks to their tricorder’s, that they were alone.
A few minutes later they arrived at the facility that Dr Kavek had used for his experiments, and they slowly moved inside. The tricorder’s readings were vague now, getting confused with all the different readings he was getting from the laboratory. Frustrated, he put it back on his belt, and proceeded with more care, the helmsman still following behind him. When they reached the office on the upper floors, Lt Cmdr Sharpe spoke quietly.
“The away team have been here sir, you can see their footprints in the dust.”
The trill thanked the stars he had brought the human with him, he wouldn’t have spotted the footsteps, but navigation officer’s tended to be observant. Rick was now following the prints, and as he followed them round the corner, a challenge was shouted at him. The rear marine had spotted him, and crouched over hadn’t seen the Starfleet uniform. He fired a warning show just over Sharpe’s shoulder, grazing across the material.
Harrias strode forwards, his uniform clearly showing, and approached the away team.
“Thank god we managed to find you. The planet’s authorities, or one of them, knows that you are here. We need to leave as soon as possible.”
“We think we’ve found a lead captain.” Cavit said, clearly intending to follow it up. Harrias knew how important this was, and didn’t argue.
“Fine, we’ll follow it up. Lead on.”
OOC: I know it’s against protocol, but we need all the simmers in one place, we don’t have enough to spread out. Let’s get this information and get back to the ship. At the same time, let’s make this enjoyable, but hopefully we will be able to sim a bit more now.

In an unprecedented move, Captain Jira, together with LtCmndr Sharpe, beamed down to the planet to warn the away team that their intrusion had been detected. This did not sit well with Marine Captain Hrisvalar.
Hrisvalar: “Sir! I must inform you that you have gone against protocol by being here.”
Jira: “I understand your concern, but I assure you our discussion over this matter is not going to change the fact that I am now here. The sooner we proceed with this fact-finding mission, the sooner we will all be back safe, aboard the Nevada.”
Hrisvalar: “Understood, sir!” “Sergeant Carrera! Proceed.”
Staff Sergeant Carrera took point again and proceeded through the corridor that led to the rear of this complex. He stopped at a panel next to a door, presumably the one going down into the complex, where Doctor Kavek was conducting his weapons research. He was about to open the panel when Cmndr McDuff came forward.
McDuff: “Let me have a crack at that panel.”
Cmndr McDuff opened the panel, scanned it with his tricorders, cut and then spliced a couple of wires. After a few seconds there was a “WHOOSH”, and the door was open.
Jira: “I knew there was a reason why you are my Chief Engineer.”
McDuff: “Don’t kid yourself. I’m still trying to figure out how you are a Captain of a starship.”
The two gave each other a friendly glance.
The away team slowly proceeded through a small stairway labyrinth, first scanning to detect against counter-measures, then taking action to dismantle or destroy them.
They finally entered the last doorway into a large test lab. It was divided into three sections. The first section, closest to them, consisted of chemical workbenches with various chemicals in flasks and test tubes. The second section, in the middle, had various small weapons parts strewn across a couple of workbenches. The third section, at the far end, consisted of what appeared to be a makeshift firing range. It was isolated from the rest of the lab by a forcefield.
Bonar: “This doesn’t look good.”
Hrisvalar: “Indeed.”
Cavit: “Is everybody else thinking what I’m thinking?”
McDuff: “Being an engineer and not a science officer, I would say he was working on…”
Jira: “…a chemical weapon.” “Given the doctor’s past, let’s just hope he didn’t include the Omega molecule in there somewhere.” “Okay everyone. Take your respective scans, take what seems important, and let’s get out of here.”
OOC: We should all be back from our respective holidays. If anybody doesn’t like for me to include them in my posts with their assumed reactions and/or remarks, I suggest that you then start posting more yourself. Just a friendly nudge, come on guys and gals.

Captain Jira, knowing that he would have to let his people do their jobs for a few minutes at least, moved over to a computer console and started to browse through the contents. He knew that most probably he would miss anything important, but if anything stood out, he would hopefully notice. The screen currently showed a large menu, and Harrias tapped security. Hoping to make their escape easier by removing any remaining traps, he followed the menus for a while, but all he ended up viewing was a security camera feed. The screen flipped between the different cameras, changing to show a different location each time. A couple of times Harrias saw them appear on screen as it got to the cameras in the room they were in.
He was about to turn away from the screen when he saw a faint glimmer of movement. It took him a few seconds to get the screen to change back to that camera, and by this time there was definitely more than a glimmer of movement. Coming along the corridor, merely 20-30 metres away from them was a pack of what seemed to be a cross between wolves and gorillas. Harrias didn't really care what they were, but they were a serious threat.
"Hrisvalar, Bonar, your men surrounding that door. Now!"
The two acted quickly and within seconds there was a group of marines and security officers around the door. Not too soon either as, with a crash, the door fell to the floor, and one of the creatures came flying through growling menacingly.

These Gorilla-Wolves came barreling through the door and instinctively Sgt Stevens shot the first one right between the eyes. She was able to wound a second one before it lunged forward and grabbed hold of an arm from one of the security officers. SSgt Carrera was able to put it down with another phaser blast.
These beasts were coming in one by one, and they were being taken down in the same manner. There had been five of them.
Rex Bonar was tending to his injured security officer when the other asked the question that was on everyone’s mind, “What in blazes are these things?”
Commander McDuff was the first to respond “Could be they are just some sort of alien animals that we haven’t encountered before.” He was scanning the lifeless bodies with his tricorder to verify his assumption.
Cmdr Cavit came over to McDuff, “Why do I have the feeling that I don’t think that is the case here?”
“Because I am thinking the same thing. They look like an experiment gone wrong.” was Captain Jira’s assertion.
Lieutenant Bonar finished dressing the injury. “I think it’s high time we tail it out of here, sir. I don’t want to run into any other surprises like this.”
“I have to agree with that assessment. I believe we have gathered enough intelligence. Our own security is now being compromised, most importantly yours, Captain, and we must be able to return with the information that we do have.” Zhukarak added.
“Yes! You're both right. Mcduff, get a sample of those beasts. We can analyze it onboard. Marines, lead the way!”
Everyone double-checked their weapons as they prepared to move out, as Captain Jira had ordered.

Zhukarak was realizing what a security mess this away team had become. It was ridiculously large for this fact-finding mission and was becoming a logistical nightmare. There was Zhuk with two of his marines, Lt Bonar with three of his officers, Cmndr McDuff, LtCmndr Cavit, and now LtCmndr Sharpe and Captain Jira.
Zhuk then realized that the time for stealth had already passed. They now had the advantage of superior firepower. This firepower was about to be tested.
The marines led the way through the facility, back the way they had come. Lt Bonar led his security officers as a second team, while the commanders and the Captain brought up the rear as team number three.
The interior had proven to be clear of hostiles all the way to the facility entrance. Then came the exit.
“Hold it!” Came Zhukarak’s command. “Mr. Bonar! Could you scan the outside?”
As Rex was scanning he confirmed Zhuk’s assumptions. “I’m reading twenty-three life-forms outside. They have set up a perimeter around our exit, about fifty meters out. Looks like an ambush for us.”
“That’s what I was afraid of.” Came Zhuk’s response.
One of the security officers spoke up. “Why don’t we just beam out of here?”
LtCmndr Cavit was the first to answer. “The walls of this facility are interfering with a transporter lock.”
“The hostiles are too close for a firing solution from the Nevada.” Was Captain Jira’s comment, after which he had an idea.
=/\=Captain Jira to Flight Ops!=/\=
=/\=Flight Ops here, sir!=/\=
=/\=Send in a Danube class shuttle with tactical configuration. Have it land about twenty meters to the west of our location with its starboard hatch open. Be advised that there are hostiles on a perimeter, approximately fifty meters to our west. Have your phaser banks at the ready.=/\=
=/\=Aye, aye, sir!=/\=
All the years spent in the Andorian Imperial Guard, Marine Captain Zhukarak Hrisvalar was impressed with his Captain. It was now his turn.
“Lt Bonar! When that shuttle gets here, take your team near the bow of the shuttle and give suppression fire. My marines and I will do the same at the stern.”
“Captain! When we start shooting, you and the rest get on that shuttle as fast as you can.”
“Lt Bonar! After the command crew has boarded, you and your team get onboard. We will follow suit.”
Zhukarak had finished giving his battle plan and everyone understood.
No sooner was he done when the shuttle landed, spitting out its phaser banks at the hostiles.
The security team took up its position, as did the marine team.
Phaser blasts were being fired back and forth. It was hard to see any of the hostiles, but they became easy to locate when they were shooting.
Sgt Stephanie Stevens relished this moment. After all, she was a sniper first and foremost. She took aim where she saw one of the phaser blasts originate from. She let out a burst of fire until the phaser blasts stopped coming from that direction.
SSgt Jason Carrera and Marine Captain Hrisvalar did the same. Slowly the firing from the hostile perimeter was subsiding. Zhukarak could tell that the same was true from the bow of the ship as the noise of shots were lessening from there also.
Just then he had gotten a tap on his shoulder from Lt Bonar, letting him know that his team was aboard the shuttle and he was the last one. SSgt Carrera went first. Sgt Stevens was on her way and Zhukarak was backing up to get under cover…but it was a little too late.
An errant phaser blast had found Zhuk and hit him directly in his left shoulder, knocking him backwards onto the ground.
“AHH! I’M HIT!” came his scream. He was able to get up when Lt Bonar came out and ‘crooked’ him from underneath his right arm, helping him on board.
The shuttle hatch closed while the shuttle lifted off into the safety of space, heading home to the Nevada.
LtCmndr Cavit took a look at Zhukarak’s wound. She had had field medic training.
“Your marine armored vest took most of the blast, but you do have third-degree burns past your epidermal tissue right on the outside of your shoulder.”
“I can stabilize the bleeding, and sickbay should be able to start tissue regeneration.” LtCmndr Cavit finished with a field dressing around the wound.
“Thank you, Commander. I’m sure I’ll be back on duty in no time at all.” Zhuk said with relief, happy to be away from this planet.

With everyone on the single shuttle, Harrias knew it would be slow to reach the Nevada, and very susceptible to ground to air fire. He tapped his commbadge.
=/\= Nevada, scan the planet for any signs of ground-to-air weapons. If any lock onto us, take them out. =/\=
An aye sir rang back from the ship, and then Harrias closed the link. He looked around the shuttle. It was a good crew, and he regretted that the mission had required such a large number of them. He moved over to the marine chief.
"How are you holding up?"
"I'll survive Captain." he paused, as if thinking what to say, or more, how to word it. "You should not have come down to the planet sir."
"Someone had to warn you." The trill said, not defensively, but not comfortably.
"It didn't help, they still came." Harrias smiled at him.
"Missions happen like that. At least we got the data we came for. Once we get back to the ship, we'll have to read through it." He stood up, and left the marine in the care of his subordinates. He walked over to where his first officer was sitting.
"Sorry about coming down. I couldn't get in contact with you."
Cavit turned to him, her head lowered slightly. "That was a farce, the whole thing, nothing went right, not at the start, not in the middle, not at the end."
"I know. I'm sorry." He couldn't think of anything more to say, and was relieved when Lt Cmdr Sharpe spoke up from the helm.
"Approaching mothership. Preparing to enter shuttlebay."
The Nevada's helmsman had no trouble sliding the small shuttle into the shuttlebay, and dropping her into position.
Before the doors were opened, Harrias called for some quiet.
"Before you all go, there will be a staff meeting at 0900 tomorrow morning, to discuss what we have found, and what the next step will be."

Yawning as he awoke, Harrias wished that he could put the previous day's events fown to a bad dream, but that wasn't going to happen. Sometimes there were things that a captain couldn't shirk awak from, and it seemed that this was one of those times. He shivered slightly, and wasn't sure whether it was because he was cold or not.
He gave his chronometer a quick glance, as he always did, and was not surprised to read that it was already 0830. He had wanted more time to prepare than that, but no worries, he would still make it on time. He quickly had a shower and got dressed, and then at a brisk walk, made it to the observation lounge before anyone else.
At 0900 almost on the dot, everyone else started filing in, and only once they were all seated around the table did he start the briefing. After running through the details of the last mission, and the success, failure of the different parts, they turned to the results.
“Mr Hrisvalar, I believe you and your marines have looked at the information?”
“Indeed Captain. We have found substantial evidence that Dr Kavek was producing and developing new weapons. We have no solid evidence, but what we have seems to imply some kind of Klingon involvement.”
Harrias turned to his chief tactical officer. “Mr Bonar, what of the tracking device we put on the pirate vessel?”
“It confirms Marine Captain Hrisvalar’s theory, they have moved into Klingon space, although they have not yet come to a halt.”
Harrias thought for a while. “Well, we have orders to return to Starbase, and we will receive our next orders from there.”
OOC: Okay, that last mission was starting to drag. If anyone has any ideas for the next mission, please feel free to email me them, or whack them up in an empty thread. Meanwhile, I am going on a recruiting drive, so hopefully we’ll see some more crewmembers soon!

Zhukarak was back in his quarters, looking at his favorite poster that he had prominently hung on the wall over his bed.She sure was beautiful…for a drawing on a poster.
The Nevada was on her way back to starbase. The mission was a success. They had gathered information on Dr. Kavek’s research and his dealings with pirates, apparently Klingon pirates. Depending on what Starfleet wanted to do with that information, the Nevada’s next mission might be to follow up on some of those leads. Time would tell.
Zhukarak was doing some catching up on the happenings on and around Starbase Assailant. He knew that Qualinost was going to be settled by a race that was close to extinction. About 15,000 of that race were due in within the next week for settlement.
Zhukarak also caught a rumor that a new fighter wing was going to be activated, for security above the planet. There were a few incidents that needed to be dealt with, and this was one of the reasons for this new fighter wing.
Zhukarak wondered if he could do a temporary tour of duty with this fighter wing. He was a qualified marine pilot, and he could help while the Nevada was in dock. He could assist in the training of the new pilots too, but Zhukarak was just as happy to be someone’s wingman.
Zhukarak sent out a communiquae to Captain Jira for permission to join this fighter wing. The Captain would, of course, have to clear it with Admiral Lin, CO of the starbase.
Zhukarak was hopeful.

The Navada had arrived at Starbase Assailant.
Zhukarak was ready and anxious. He had received permission from Captain Jira to go on TDY (Temporary Duty) at the Starbase.
He had accepted Zhukarak's proposal to join the new fighter wing. Of course, he was going to let Zhuk bring this up with the Admiral. He had the last say-so.
Marine Captain Hrisvalar grabbed his gear and made his way to see the Adm Lin.
