They tunnel they were travelling on steadily headed upward, and Melain estimated that they were within a mile of the surface when the path took a turn for the worse. It headed downward steeply, forcing the away team to watch their step.
"Should we keep going?" Carerra wonderd aloud.
"It's either that or turn back, either way we're going down again." Steve replied. "Besides the path might go up again past that turn ahead." the First officer shone his light in the direction he was speaking about.
"Careful Frek, it's getting steeper." Melain warned the Navigation Officer who was behind her.
"Why signal me out for your little warning?" Frek huffed.
"You have a track record of getting injured and my medpacks getting low." Melain replied as she leaned back further to compensate for the steep decline. Even her Starfleet boots didn't give her the grip she needed, and in seconds she was on her rear end slidding toward Zhuk. "Major!" she yelped, not expecting him to be able to help her, just to get out of the way. He gingerly stepped aside.
"Don't worry doctor, it evens out ahead." The Andorian Marine said as she wizzed past him.
"Why didn't I think of that?" Melain heard Frek comment
"Frek no!" she begged, knowing he'd be sure to hit his head on something. Too late, she heard him hit the tunnel floor and sail on down after her.
Reaching the bottom Melain stood up and opened her Medpack. Before she could find out whether or not Frek would hurt himself she was surrounded. Severak Cave moths (she grimiced at calling them this) appeard around her, an array of brilliant whites. They must have the ability to dissapear, fasinating Melain's scientific side got the better of her. The beats of their wings was almost hypnotic and Melain found it difficult to remain standing

Theel’zhiin joined in with these creatures as they were flying about. Zhuk sensed peace and happiness from his pet, who in turn was sensing it from them. “I am sensing that they are happy over the destruction of the pillars.” Zhuk announced to all.
“Well I’m glad they’re happy. Now can we worry about my arm here.” Frek had become worse for the wear and Melaine was trying to keep up with his injuries as much as she could with her dwindling supplies.
Zhuk went and grabbed the marine field kit out of the bag that Sergeant Carrera was carrying. He strode over to Melaine, who was tending to Frek. “Here you go doctor. We carry a basic first aid kit with us also. It’s almost equivalent to your medkit. Hope it helps.”
“Thank you!” she continued mending the Helm officers arm.
“Mr. Hrisvalar. Are you saying that Theel’zhiin can communicate with these Cave Moths?” Cmdr Steve questioned after realizing what Zhuk had said about the sense of happiness he was getting from them.
“Well sir. At present I can mainly sense moods and feelings from Theel’zhiin. Our bond is still developing. As far as his communication with these creatures, it is very possible, but I won’t make the best interpreter.”
“Hm. I was hoping that they could help us get out of here.” Steve commented.
“I’ll see what I can do, sir.” Zhuk turned around to where Theel’zhiin was fluttering about with these shiny whites. It seemed like they were playing a game. As Theel’zhiin was flying towards one of them, it would shimmer to invisibility only to reappear a few feet away. After a couple of times, Theel’zhiin showed them that he too could disappear in his own way, and reappear again.
Zhuk concentrated his thoughts. ~ Theel’zhiin. Can they guide us to an exit from these caves? ~ Zhuk waited…then he had his answer as he sensed a feeling of freedom from Theel’zhiin.
“Yes Commander. They will help us. As soon as the doctor is done we can continue through that cave over there.” Everyone was delighted at the news.

"We definitely need to strip the shuttle from all excess systems. Every watt we can spare in energy, could make the difference between success and failure", Rex replied to Lotrai.
The pattern enhancers would give them some relief for sure, but Rex didn't want to trust on the long poles, since there were too many variables already. During his years of experience in space faring he had learned to keep things as simple as possible.
Once they reached the shuttle-bay, both officers got to work immediately. Soon the bay was littered in shuttle-parts.
Lotrai was doing the finer jobs, such as rerouting power and disabling systems. Rex on the other hand seemed to enjoy pulling out systems and throwing them outside the shuttle.
After about 45 minutes they had completely stripped the shuttle, and taken offline most of the systems they weren't going to use. Inside the shuttle it looked as if there had been a party and no-one had bothered to clean up afterward.
Lotrai sat at the console, while reading energy output. She shakes her head and informes her co-trasher "It still isn't enough. We took all non-essential systems offline, and have reduced weight tremendously, but it just won't do."
Rex had been afraid of that, since most systems on board a shuttle, although non-essential to the flying of the ship, didn't use that much power unless they were activated.
"Well then, it appears the rest is up to good tactics. We will have to launch with shields up, make our way to the planet fast, make a full stop and in the storm, divert all energy to the transporters, transport one of us to the surface to set up the enhancers if we can't reach them otherwise, and try to make our way back to the Nevada without being toasted by the E'rify'K", Rex summed up their plan.
"That's about it", the chief engineer replied carefully whilst pondering over the sheer impossibility of the mission that lay ahead.
"We will need to make sure we are in a calmer part of the storm once we arrive", she added seconds later.
"And were going to need a diversion from the Nevada as well", Rex complemented her train of thought.
"Perhaps we need to launch a second shuttle to take their eyes off of us.", the lt. said rhetorically.

She smiles at her train of thought.
"What do you think? Who exactly is going on this recon mission any ways?" She says looking over at her newest mess and shaking her head. It seemed that no one liked order around her, and she goes to start to clean it up. She wonders if anyone knew about order and tidy. It appeared as if no one did here. She sighs and continues to clean up listening to the other lt.

It was a rather strange Frek decided. Although the Cave Moths, everyone seemed to have adopted that name by now, were so bright white they seemed to glow, they didn’t actually emit any light at all. The tunnels were still shrouded in that impenetrable darkness. If it weren’t for the two torches it would have been impossible to see each other or even the cold rock walls that surrounded them. But in the little light waves travelling from the flashlights the Cave Moths were more then visible. Lazily they floated around the group with such ease and grace Frek almost forgot where he was. “Magnificent,” he said in awe and looked at Melain, “Isn’t it?” She returned his smile and nodded. “Yeah, it’s marvellous.” The young Bajoran doctor grabbed her bag of the floor and swung it over her shoulder. “I’m all ready,” she said. “We are ready to go.” Commander Steve looked pleased. Apparently he had enough of these caves and tunnels as well. “Colonel Hrisvalar, I guess it’s up to you to relay that message to our new acquaintances.” “Yes sir.” Zhukarak Hrisvalar concentrated his attention on the mental bond with the firelizard as he made Theel’zhiin clear what he wanted. In turn he passed on the message to the Cave Moths. “So what can you gather from what Theel’zhiin is telling you?” Melain asked. “Are they sentient?” It was something not only Melain wanted to know, it was one of the questions that was on all the team members’ mind and in Frek’s case when he would get his next decent meal of course. Everyone needs to have their priorities in place. “Not entirely Doctor,” Hrisvalar replied. “From what Theel’zhiin told me they are starting to develop sentient abilities. They are well aware of us and what is happening around them.” “I wish I would be able to observe them for a while,” Melain sighed, “It would be really interesting. All the things I could learn about the development of these beings.” If studying them meant staying down here in this god forsaken, or in Melain’s case prophet forsaken, caves he would gladly pass. Who wanted to come down here to the planet anyways? That person must be a real idiot. Frek was still contemplating about that when Hrisvalar spoke up. He had received a reply to their request. “They will be flying ahead of us. Clearly they want us to follow them.” Zhukarak Hrisvalar paused for a moment as he got another part of the message. “And something about watching our heads. Although I get the impression this is directed at only one of us.” All heads turned towards Frek. “What?” he asked, looking from one to another. “What did I do?” Steve shook his head and signalled the others. “Let’s go people.” While they started to follow their cave dwelling cave guides Frek looked around again at his team mates, trying to get to the source of the soft gurgling sound he heard. Jason Carrera, who was closing the line, had a hard time refraining to burst out in laughter and managed to remain undetected.
The Cave Moths lead them around series of bands and curves and up steep and narrow passages and cracks they would have easily missed if they would have been looking for them their selves. It was clear to all they it would have taken way longer if they would have to do without their exotic guides. “Oh my,” Frek groaned taking a deep breath, “When I’m dead please remind me I don’t want to reincarnate as a mountain goat or for that matter anything else that sees pleasure in climbing.” “You believe in reincarnation?” Carrera informed with interest. Frek gave him a tortured look. “No, but I just want to be sure. Just in case.”
The group climbed on for at least another ninety minutes, although to some it felt like nine-hundred minutes. Finally the tunnel seemed to level out a bit and the walking, or perhaps the stumbling, became easier. Frek sniffed in the air. “Can you smell it too?” His antenna’s moved around slowly, as if they were detecting something. “Yes, I’m sure of it,” he said triumphantly. “I can feel and smell fresh air.” Commander Steve held up his tricorder. “We are only a twenty metres or so underground. It can’t be much longer until we reach the open air again.” Barely had he finished his sentence when the tunnel suddenly widened and they found themselves standing in relatively big dome. It was oval shaped and about twenty-five metres across on the small part and perhaps thirty metres long. The ceiling was close to ten or twelve metres above their heads. That ceiling, three to four metres thick separated them from a clear blue sky. Or better said a thoroughly clouded night sky as the night had fallen over archipelago they found themselves on. Or under, at second thought. Melain let her light glide over cave roof while Commander Steve investigated the walls with his. Several types of vegetation were clearly visible hanging from the roof. Some seemed to be the roots of plants and trees growing on the surface. Others were indigenous to the caves, probably feeding of the nutritious layers of limestone. “Over there!” Steve pointed with his light to the far end of the cave. They light revealed an opening. It was the entrance to a tunnel leading steeply up. The way out! A gust of wind blew in from the passage and stirred the hair of the excited group. “Finally,” Frek said. He had a big grin on his face. Storm or no storm, at least they were finally able to suck some fresh air in their longs and to get out of the caves. “Lieutenant,” Steve started, “See if you ca…” Before he could finish his order a heavy booming sound thundered through the cave. It was a miracle the sound didn’t disrupt their eardrums. A shower of limestone dust, pieces of rock and parts of roots began raining down on the unpleasantly surprised away team. “The lighting has struck the cave,” Melain shouted over the noise. Another boom echoed through the room, instantly followed by another rain of debris. Frek looked around him. On the instant the explosions started the cave dwellers had disappeared. “No,” Hrisvalar yelled shaking his head. Like the others he started looking for some cover as soon as the whole thing started. “We are being fired upon. It must be the E’rify’ks, they must have picked up our bio-signs.” A cloud of dust shot down the only passageway leading out to the surface. At least a ton worth of rocks and rubble followed, effectively blocking the way out. Two or three more explosions rocked the place. Frek lost count. For those caught below it was as if the earth was trying to swallow them with extreme force. “The way we came from is blocked as well!” He had checked but it had collapsed as well under the violence unleashed upon the rocks. From the ways he envisioned himself to die in these perilous moments being buried alive was probably the worst. He kept himself close to the walls in expectation of a new volley of photon torpedoes or whatever they were firing with. None came. After the explosions the silence was deep and profound, only disturbed by the occasional cough in the dust. “Is everyone alright?” Steve called out. One by one the officers responded. Miraculously no one was killed or injured in the attack. A quick survey showed what they had feared. They were trapped in this room. “Lieutenant,” Steve ordered, “See if you can get the comlink open again. If we want to get out of here we’ll need help from the Nevada.”

Dispite everyones claims to the contrary Melain insisted on giving them all a once over to check that they really where not injured. Surprisingly none of them were, not even Frek. "Mark it on the calender everyone, Frek survived that without a scratch." She reported, putting away her tricorder. She looked around and realised that the cave in seemed to have scared away the cave moths.
"Our guides have dissapeared. Major can Theel’zhiin detect them?" Melain asked, hoping they had just gone invisible not left the away team stranded.
The fire lizard scampared around the cavern for a bit, before coming to rest on Zhuk's shoulder. "They appear to be gone." The Marine replied.
"Then we will have to do our best to get out of here, Going back down into the caverns does not seem like a wise idea since we are down to two lights." Steve gestured to the two plasma rifle lights they had left.
"Have you been able to contact the Nevada?" Melain asked.
"Not yet, there is too much interferance, it's going to take awhile." Frek replied.
The cavern gave another shake. "They haven't given up on us yet. Come on Grace, do your thing." Melain gritted her teeth as another earth shattering boom resounded around the cavern. "We should try masking our signature, if they can't detect us they might stop."
"You get on that Doctor. Zhuk and Carrera try and secure this cavern the best you can, Frek continue trying got contact the Nevada." Steve orderd.
"What are you going to do Commander?" Melain asked.

Grace was looking at the view screen when she noticed that the E’rify’ks were firing on the planet surface.SInce the commlink was not as effective as usual, Grace decided her link was possibly more useful.
Inwardly she went looking and filnally locating Commander Steve's mind. "Steve, give me an update on your status and position. We are adapting a shuttle to come down to the surface to retrieve the away team."
"Well, have them hurry, we are trapped in a cave where we are being fired upon. We don't know how much longer before this cave collapses. We have been underground for quite a while and are not entirely sure as to our location."
"Try to send a signal with a tricorder, hopefully the shuttle will pick it up. Keep your mind open, I will inform the Captain of your status and return with any further instructions."
Grace turned to the Captain and gave him all the information she had from Steve.
Harrias signalled Rex and Lotrai to get that shuttle ready, NOW!

The Captain's command came as no surprise to Rex. He was getting used to the fact that things needed to be done sooner as was desirable.
Rex and Lotrai manned the modified shuttle and waited for a pilot to take the other one.
Rex had made some last minute alterations to that shuttle's shields, so it would be able to withstand a possible attack longer.
A young pilot in a red shirt came rushing into the shuttlebay, and on Rex's hints made it to the right shuttle. Rex had already taken care of all the necessary pre-flight checks.
As Rex took the pilot seat in the modified shuttle, Lotrai was just finishing up the systems check, and she gave Rex an affirmative nod when he entered.

As soon as the comm call came in from Rex, Harrias tapped his commbadge.
=/\= All clear, go get them =/\=
His stomach was turning over and over, irritating him, but the worry about the crew members was immense. In addition to that he knew that even if they did manage to rescue the crew, the chances were that a firefight would be required to escape from the alien vessel. On top of that, there was the fact that although they could escape through the gateway once more, they had no idea where it would dump them. They could end up back home, in the past, the future, even further away, in the middle of a battle, by a black hole, anything. He sighed, and Grace picked up on his emotion.
"Captain, we have to take this one step at a time, stop worrying."
He jerked his head to her, angry that she had been reading his mind. She simply shook her head.
"It would have been hard to block out your emotions there, they were extremely strong."
The trill nodded, realising there was truth to her words, he was extremely worried, and it didn't really take a telepath to notice it. He wondered how Rex was getting along, and whether the away team was on the shuttle and safe yet...

Both shuttles left the shuttle bay only seconds after the captain's order came through.
Rex ordered the other shuttle to fly really close next to them. I they had any luck the E'ryfi'k's sensors wouldn't be as precise, considering the energy which was involved in maintaining their partial cloak, and it would look to them as if only one object left the Nevada.
The shield frequencies of both shuttles had been harmonized, and Lotrai had dispersed a small particle tachyon field to surround both shuttles, since it could cloud their sensor readings.
Slowly Rex tried to reach the planet, as a slow ship wouldn't call for rash decisions on the E'ryfi'k's part. The CTSO had a hunch that rational thinking wasn't their best of traits. Therefore caution was warranted.
If they did fire upon the shuttles, Rex hoped to be nearer to the planet. Lotrai and he would then try to seek cover in the volatile planet-atmosphere, whilst the other shuttle would run back to the Nevada. With any luck they would go undetected.
It was the journey back Rex feared more..

(O.O.C I just realised that pretty much everyone else on the surface is on an LOA so I'm going to post again)
"What are you going to do Commander?" Melain asked, after Steve had given them all jobs.
"Help you. We will still need to be detectable by the Nevada rescue team." Steve pointed out.
"Right then, we may be able to use a similer system as the moths do, I took some scans of the dying one and I'm hoping that further examination will help me uncover thier secret.
The away team worked hard at their assigned tasks, interupted only a few more times by the bone shaking spaceal fire of the Miners.
"Perhaps we should not have destroyed those columns." Frek ponderd aloud. Melain refused to accept that the teams chosen action had been wrong.
"Even if we are killed I will rest peacefully knowing that our actions saved a developing species, did not Ambassador Spock say that "The lives of the many outweight the lives of the few"?" Melain replied coldly.
"Maybe so, but how do we prevent the miners from simply creating more equipment? We can't possibly stay here and safe gaurd these creatures forever." Frek pointed out and Melain realised he was right, it would be unfair for her to expect the entire crew to sit here for the rest of thier lives. They needed to find a way home. Besides many would argue that the away team broke the prime directive by interupting the miner's operation.
"have you had any luck contacting the Nevada?" Melain asked, swiftly changing the subject.
"I'm picking up a shuttle signal, although I'm not sure if it's one of ours or not..." Frek replied, he too seemed grateful their argument was over. He fidelled with his tricorder for a moment. "It's the Aurora." The name given to one of the type 11 shuttle crafts.
"We need to boost our signals so they can beam us out of here." Steve jumped the away team into action.
"What about the miners?"" Melain asked, wondering if she shoudl continue the work she was doing to mask their signature.
"The Major and Carerra have secured the cavern, it will be able to stand another volley, and by then we should be off this planet." Steve replied. Melain nodded and began boosting their signal.
=A=Aurora, this is Dr. Melain can you hear me?=A= Melain tapped her comm badge once she'd preformed the alterations.
=A=you're breaking up, but we've got you on sensors.=A= Replied a voice Melain had not heard before. =A= Prepare for beam out=A=

Zhuk heard the transmission from the shuttle. “Cmdr Steve and you, Dr. Lorre, should be going first.”
They agreed. Frek looked a little put back. He had wanted nothing more than to get off this planet in a hurry.
Cmdr Steve transmitted back to the Aurora.
=/\= We are ready. Lock onto the Doctor and me. =/\=
The familiar blue shimmer enveloped the two as the two man transporter locked on.
“Mr. Thelev, you and Sergeant Carrera are next.” No sooner after they had boosted their signals the transporter locked on again. Zhukarak was the last one to beam out. All were now safely aboard the shuttle. Now they just needed to get back to the Nevada.
Theel’zhiin realized that Zhuk would now be safe and disappeared only to reappear back onto the bridge of the Nevada, where he communicated with Grace that the away team was safely picked up.

Moments later Melain appeard on the Shuttle's transporter pad. She took in a deep releaved breath and stepped down, clearing the pad for the rest of the team.
"Welcome aboard Doctor My name is Lotrai I'm the new Chief of Engineering." A young women introduced herself, this must have been who answerd her while on the planet. "And I've already checked in at sickbay so I don't need the lecture." Lotrai smiled.
"I wasn't about to give it." Melain replied taking a seat. Beside her Frek had plunked himself down and was speaking to the Shuttle pilot.
"Melain, Mr. Toledo has a question." Frek gave her a nudge and she switched seats with him so she could speak with the Pilot.
His chair swivelled slightly to reveal a delicate ridged nose and all too familiar earing. Another Bajoran, this Melain had not expected her people where artistic and religouse and so unlike the humans where not prominate among Star Fleet. He spoke, but his attention was obviosly still on keeping the shuttle steady. "I was going to track you down on board earlier, but didn't have time. I have a very pregnant cat in my Quarters and she's been so for much longer then I expected. Do you do cats?"
"I do everything on board that eats, sleeps, and has a pulse." Melain replied.
Toledo was about to reply when the last of the away team arrived. "lay in a course back to the Nevada." Rex orderd. "Careful now, they won't be happy that we've rescued you."

In her seat, Grace was beginning to get very uncomfortable, due to the heighten emotions of the crew. In most cases, she usually blocks all emotions from the crew because all those emotions tended to confuse her. Now every crew members emotions were so heightened that it had become it nearly possible to block them.
So it was, that when Theel’zhiin appeared, Grace did not register his presence. Which, annoyed Theel’zhiin somewhat and he squaked loudly in Grace's ear.
(ooc: Alright it is quite a lame post but I don't have much time this week. Later)
"Ouch! I'm sorry I didn't see you! What can you tell me is happening on the planet?"
Theel’zhiin conveyed to Grace the information that the away team was now on the shuttle.
"Captain, the away team is on the shuttle and are on their way back."
"You heard the Commander, let's give the shuttle some cover from the E’rify’ks."

"You heard the Commander, let's give the shuttle some cover from the E’rify’ks." Harrias ordered, motioning to Lieutenant Commander Bonar, and to the helmsman. Immediately, the large Prometheus ship started on a low dive, flying just above the atmosphere of the planet. It looped under the much bigger E’rify’k vessel, giving it no opportunity to fire on the federation shuttle. From the operations console, Lt Cmdr Jenkins spoke.
“Sir, we are being hailed by the E’rify’k commander.”
“Ignore it.” Harrias ordered back, not caring to hear the threats that were sure to be thrown their way. Instead, he concentrated on what was happening around them in space; the shuttle was slowly climbing towards them out of the atmosphere, the E’rify’k ship was slowly turning, and fighter craft were being released towards the Nevada, and most likely the shuttle too.
“Mr Bonar, target the shuttle’s with the phaser banks, and keep the torpedoes aimed at the mothership. Give special attention to any ship’s that get past us and may threaten the shuttle.” He turned on to Leo once more. “Commander, tell me as soon as the shuttle is within transporter range. If the fighting gets too intense for them, we may need to get them out of there.” He received a nod from each officer, and a couple of seconds later, the phasers were lashing out towards the fighter craft. Each one took only a couple of shots to remove, disappearing in a puff of purple explosion, but there were so many of them that it seemed like attacking them had no effect.
Thus far, the only attacks they were received were the small but persistant pricks of the fighter’s weapson against them. Now however, the mothership let loose her first volley. The Nevada was rocked by the blast, and alarm klaxons started going off.
“We have multiple hull breaches reported sir, decks 4 through 7, 16 through 18. Port shields down to 15%.” Jenkins reported.
“Rotate shields, keep our strongest towards the main vessel.” Jira ordered. A nod from the operations officer was all the indication he received that it was done.
“Captain, that was their main cannon. I estimate it will take them two minutes to bring it back to full firing power. The rest of their weapons are similar to those of the fighters, although they are slightly stronger.

(Sorry for not posting for so long, hope this will make up for it).
A quick glance out of the shuttles windows showed they were climbing fast. The island they had been rescued from was dissipating swiftly below them and soon merged with the other islands of the archipelago in a green blot surrounded by circle of white, courtesy of the waves breaking on its exotic shores. Frek gave ensign Lotrai a curious look. He didn’t recall seeing her before. “Who are you?” he wanted to know. The ensign returned his stare. “Acting ensign Lotrai sir, engineering department. I’m new on the ship.” Frek looked puzzled. They’ve been away from home for a while, how could they’ve been getting new crewmembers from Starfleet? Lotrai must have felt his confusion. “I came here through some wormhole,” she started to explain. Behind her the curve of the planet was clearly visible and the stars outshined by the systems sun began to show themselves and started to twinkle. Frek would was eager to get to know the rest of the story, but it seemed he would have to wait. Toledo, the Bajoran shuttle pilot, swirled around in his chair. “Sir, the E’rify’ks have engaged the Nevada. They launched a whole fleet of what seems to be fighters.” Commander Steve stepped to the front from his seat and looked at the control panels over Toledo’s shoulder. “Hmm,” he commented, “This is not the most pleasant thing I’ve ever seen. Can we get through?” Toledo looked doubtful. “There’s a lot of activity out there sir. It’ll be a close call.” Several explosions illuminated the perpetual night of space as the Nevada’s phasers lashed out like the tongue of a lizard catching an insect, destroying several of the enemy fighters. It seemed to be to no avail. They were immediately replaced by others. Then suddenly a series of bright red pulses were released from the E’rify’ks mother vessel. It wasn’t a pretty sight when they impacted on the Nevada, although Dimmu Nelg probably thought otherwise. Even from the large distance the shuttle still had to travel, it was clear that the volley had had its impact. “What the hell was that,” Carrera asked. Everyone in the shuttle had tensely been following the battle and thus far the wrong side seemed to be winning. “The ship can’t have many more of those,” Steve commented. He had barely spoken when the E’rify’ks vessel unleashed another series of shots. This time they could see the Nevada’s shield flicker under the immense stress of the explosions. If it wasn’t so series it would have been a spectacular sight, a sort of fireworks rarely seen before. By now the fighters had regrouped after their first attack run and went for another one, fighting like a furious group of bees.
“I’ve got contact with the Nevada!” Lotrai excitedly exclaimed. They had lost all communicated when they went through the planets atmosphere. “On speaker!” Steve ordered. Among a lot of background noise and the sound of projectiles and energy weapons being fired in the ships’ shield, came the voice of Captain Jira. He didn’t know about the others, but Frek felled a sense of relieve to hear his Captain’s again. “We’ve sustained some heavy damage,” Jira shouted over the noise. “Try to get within transporter range and we’ll beam you out. It’s the safest thing to do.” “Acknowledged,” Steve replied. He turned to Toledo. “You heard the man! Get us closer and fast. The longer they have to wait for the more chance the E’rify’ks have to finish what they started.” Toledo didn’t answer but simply nodded slightly and concentrated on the task ahead. Frek watched him closely as the Bajoran did his job. “Within transporter range in thirty seconds sir,” Toledo reported.
But before Steve could comment on that Frek suddenly spoke up. “Sir,” he said and looked at the others as well. “I might be able to, uhm, slow the E’rify’ks down considerably.” Everyone was instantly silent. “What did you had in mind lieutenant?” Steve inquired. Quickly Frek explained what he had in mind. He waited for their reaction when he finished. “Are you crazy!?” Melain exclaimed. “You might get seriously hurt.” “The Doctor is right,” Steve said, “You know the risk is substantial.” Frek nodded. Perhaps Melain was right, that he was crazy and he could get killed. You can’t get more seriously hurt than dead. But it was a calculated risk. What was it Melain had quoted on the planet? ‘The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.’ “If we want to get out of here it’s the only way,” he said. Steve gave it a second of thought. “Okay, let’s do it.” It might have been his plan, but that didn’t mean Frek was very happy about it. Toledo had gotten up from the pilots chair and sank himself in the co-pilots seat. Frek took his place behind the main shuttles control. “Have the Nevada get the transporters ready,” Frek said to Toledo, “We probably only get one chance to do this right.”
The shuttles speed increased as it shot away from the planet in the direction of its mother-ship, the USS Nevada. Behind them the planet rapidly shrank in size until it hardly more than a small blue ball with green speckles. Before them space seemed to be on fire. The orange coloured phasers of the Nevada pierced the darkness, striking out towards the fighter while spitting out torpedoes at full spread towards the E’rify’ks main vessel. In return the E’rify’ks created a light show of their own. Directed energy weapons in white and blue drained the energy from the Starfleets vessel accompanied by the bright balls, like mini red-dwarfs, rained down from the E’rify’ks mining vessel with regular intervals. “We are within transporter range!” Lotrai reported. “Doctor Lorre, Carrera, Lotrai, Toledo, Bonar, get ready,” the first officer warned. Melain rested her hand on his arm for second. “Be careful,” she said softly and moment later it began to shimmer in the shuttles interior. The officers transported out were replaced by several medium sized containers, its markings revealing its hazardous contents. Hrisvalar picked out a tube like device from between the containers and set it up. “Transporter enhancer in place,” he reported. “Container containment field routed to your controls,” Steve said. Hrisvalar was standing besides him, both ready to be transported off as well. “I still think I should be the one doing this Lieutenant.” So do I, Frek thought. But he refrained from saying that out loud, knowing the truth. “I am the better pilot Colonel.” He thought about that for a fraction of a second and added: “Most of the time that is…” “We’ll see you soon,” Steve said, “And…” He could not finish what he wanted to say. The familiar sound of the transporter filled the cabin and they were gone. Frek let out a sigh, a very, very deep one. Twenty-five seconds ago seven people were cramped inside the shuttle, now he was alone. Most definitely he was going to regret this and increased the shuttles speed to maximum impulse and vectored away from the Nevada, pointing the shuttles nose towards the E’rify’ks vessel. For some reason his toe, swollen beyond proportion didn’t seem to matter anymore. He felt a sudden shudder going through the shuttle. He was being intercepted by one or two of the fighter. Frek decided to ignore it and rerouted more power to the impulse engines, increasing speed, glad that Lotrai and Bonar had reinforced the shields. With a little luck that and the extra speed would be all he needed.
“Warning,” the shuttles computer voice notified, “Approaching unknown ship at inconsiderate speed.” Frek ignored it and looked over his shoulder to check his cargo. He sincerely hoped the transporter enhancer wouldn’t decide to go on an unexpected and indefinite break for the moments to come. Normally he wouldn’t need one, but with the Nevada’s shields raised and the jamming from the E’rify’ks’ it was a quite desirable accessory. The fighters were still behind him, but unable to get a clear shot. “Warning,” the computer warned again. Enemy fire shot passed the shuttle. This time not coming from behind but from ahead, defensive fire from Dimmu Nelg. “Collision course.” Frek made a quick flight correction and pressed a control switch on the control panel in front of him. “Containment field deactivated,” the computer said. Frek pressed another control button. “Warning, warpcore overload in ten seconds.” Frek’s mouth had been dry before, but surely never as dry as on this point in his life. His tongue and lips were so dry they could simply fall apart as dust when touched by even the slightest gust of wind. He glanced again at the containers behind him and their markings. Antimatter storage pods. “Collision inevitable in five…four…three.” Another quick course correction. “Core overload in three...two…” A quick push on another button. “Collission in four…” For a fraction of a second Frek saw the E’rify’ks starhips filling his view. The ‘three’ and the ‘one’ came simultaneously and were the last thing Frek Thelev heard.
The warpcore exploded a couple of seconds before the shuttle was supposed to ram the E’rify’ks ship. A calculation error. The explosion of the warpcore ignited the antimatter pods and the whole shuttle went up in a huge, eye blinding ball of light. For bystanders it must have looked as if the sun used up all its energy in one single moment. Without the additional effect of the collision the E’rify’ks’ were not destroyed. But severely damaged and crippled it could be said they were in no condition to run, let alone to be able to continue the fight.
From the Nevada they watched the spectacle unfold in silence. All members of the away team, with the exception of Frek, were present on the bridge. The explosion faded away, “Do we have him?” Captain Jira inquired sharply. Damage reports kept coming in from basically all departments. Jenkins straightened his back and looked directly at the Captain drawing a big breath. He opened his mouth to speak. “Yes sir. We have him, barely. Transporter room one.”

Melain had headed to the bridge knowing that Racheal and Tom would have things under control in Sickbay, she needed to see if what Frek was doing would work.
“Do we have him?” Captain Jira inquired sharply. "Yes sir. We have him, barely. Transporter room one.” came the reply.
"Beam him directly to sickbay, tell them I'm on my way." Melain didn't bother asking if her friend was alright, a suicide run like that was extremly dangerouse, and Frek had a nack for getting injured. Melain rushed down the hallways, crewman glanced at her and pressed against the wall, everyone knew that if the CMO was in a hurry that like an ancient ambulance you moved for them.
The doors to sickbay slid open far too slowly, and Melain ducked inside before they where finished. Other beds held recovering patients from the attacks. Tom was bent over the main bio-bed and Melain could see two blue antenna sticking out from under his arm.
"Report." She orderd as she approched, from the corner of her eye she could see Racheal tending the other patients. Having arrived at Tom's side she looked down reluctently to survey the damage... No Frek wasn't like a ship and she wasn't an engineer. She looked down to determine what needed to be done.
In all her years at the academy they hadn't trained you on how to deal with this. Oh sure they'd warned her that the hardest people to opperate on where friends, but she'd dismissed that as something only the fient of heart endured. Frek's face was scratched and bleeding, his arms were a tapestry of sticky blues, his sleeping face was contorted into a look of severe discomfort.
"Severe plasma burns on his head, arms and torso, he's got two broken ribs and a fractured leg as well as multiple cuts and bruises, I've begun treating the burns." Tom reported handing her Frek's medical file.
Melain put the file aside, she was already very familiar with treating the CNO. "He's on Rexalin?"
"Of course." Tom replied, handing Melain the tissue Mitigator.
Melain took a deep breath, they had along series of treatments to begin. "Get to work on those ribs, I'll finish on the burns." Melain instructed. "You'll be fine Frek. By the Prophets you shouldn't be after a stunt like that." Her friend may be unconscious but Melain felt calmer speaking to him.
It seemed like hours later that she was able to exchange the mitigator for her Medical Tricorder. Although Tom had already determined what needed to be done, it was vital that she did so herself. "There is limited internal damage, the damage to the ribs has remained isolated, and I'm sure he'll be sore but I suspect that most of the damade took place right before beam out." she almost smiled. Surface wounds where easily dealt with, internally things got complicated.
"I have repaired the ribs Doctor." Tom said stepping back so that she could check his work. EMHs where vital members of the Medical team but despite their abilities they still where under the CMO and that meant having thier work closley examined. Melain found it ridiculouse, but accepted it nevertheless.
"Excellent work, I'll begin on the leg and then move on to the abrassions. You can go and assist Racheal I'll call you back if I need help." Melain instructed as she began to prep for the Metorapan treatments. Tom nodded and headed over to where Racheal was working with a patient.

As soon as the transport had been complete, the entire party made it to the bridge in a hurry. While they all entered they immediately saw the damage the shuttle had done to the E'rify'ks ship. The Nevada was still sending out faserfire to deal with the shuttles left in space, but there was no returning fire from the E'rify'k anymore.
'Welcome back', Jira said while kindly nodding to the crew. Everyone immediately took their stations.
"Let's find a way out of here, fast!"

OOC: Okay peeps, due to Wanadoo taking longer than I wanted to give me proper internet, I'm going to have to extend my LOA until Friday. If someone wants to get us out of this fight, and then back into the gateway, I will start the next mission as soon as I get back from my LOA. On the other side of the gateway, it doesn't really matter where or when we are, and you can just wander around for a while until my return. I do have a plan though, so don't do anything too major.

Zhukarak and the rest of the Command staff were back on the bridge. Theel’zhiin was happy and squealed his way onto Zhuk’s right shoulder. ~ Yes, my Guardian, you have done well. We are safe…for the moment. ~ Zhuk’s thoughts drifted as he witnessed the destruction his Andorian comrade had caused.
Zhuk should not have let him fly that shuttle. Little did Frek know that Zhukarak was an accomplished fighter pilot, but he was no match in trying to fly a huge Starfleet cruiser such as the Nevada. For that very reason Zhukarak should have insisted. Frek was a needed member of this crew, much more than himself he thought.
“I’m heading to sickbay, sir.” Addressing no one in particular on the bridge, Zhukarak turned around and exited through the turbo lift doors. He made his way through the intricate corridors not paying much attention to anyone. Coming around a bend he had collided with a crewman. Zhuk was angry and pushed the crewman aside. “STEP ASIDE!” He bellowed. Theel’zhiin displayed the same anger by expanding both of his wings and squawking in the crewman’s direction.
Finally arriving, Zhukarak entered the sickbay doors. He could see Dr. Lorre, Nurse Rachael, and the EMH working on Frek. Zhuk walked up but remained a respectable distance for them to continue their work. “How is he doctor?”

With their work here done for the moment (the creatures were safe for now), the Captain had ordered to find a way closer to home once more.
Rex had asked Lotrai for the coordinates to the wormhole she had came through.
"It was just a lucky guess", she had told him.
"I picked up the Nevada's signature on the other end. It almost seemed as if the wormhole appeared because I needed to get to here."
Nevertheless Lotrai had shared the coordinates with the helm officer, and the Nevada shot out of orbit towards the position Lotrai had dictated.
As the Nevada approached the coordinates several minutes later, Rex started to scan the phenomena from the science station.
"It matches the same output as we have seen with the gateway, although this seems like a..portable.. version of it. There's no generator, but the energy just seemed to be delivered to this location some time ago."
All the crew looked weird at Rex. It seemed the Nevada had become the interest of some greater party. But why? And to what end?
"Can you see what lies on the other side?", Steve informed.
"Not really...the portal energy is degrading rapidly. It most definitely won't take us to the location Lotrai has entered it."
"Well, staying here is not an option as well", the First Officer remarked sober.
Captain Jira weighed his options for a second, before turning to the helmsman: "Take us in!"
Once more the Nevada took a ride into the unknown...

Melain looked up from where she was healing the last of Frek's bruises. "He's in stable condition and should remain that way. I'm planning on keeping him here for observation untill later tommorow at the least." she put the tissue mitigator away. "Andorian's aren't the easiest species to treat, but I think he'll be alright." she looked over at her friend and gave him a reassuring clasp on the shoulder. "Doctor, do you believe he acted wisely?" The Major asked, Melain was taken aback, she had not expected anyone to ask her this. Having chastised Zhuk once already for his recklessness, she doubted she could be lenient with Frek. "I'm a Doctor, not a pilot and most certainly not a captain. I don't know what our options where at the moment, or what would have been the best choice to make, however that said from my perspective of things he should not have risked his life like that." Melain replied, putting away her surgical instruments. "Now if there's nothing else Major, I haven't had a decent sleep, meal or shower in several days and would relish in the chance to retire to my quarters." Just then the ship jerked, and Melain struggled to hold her balance. =A= Doctor Lorre to the Bridge, what's happening?=A= =A= We've encounterd another portal, the one Ensign Lotrai used and have just entered, things will be a little shakey for a few moments=A= Captain Harrias replied. The tremors died down a moment later. =A= Sickbay to Bridge, any idea where we are?=A=

A somehow familiar ceiling filled his view when he slowly opened his eyes. For a moment he couldn’t remember anything and couldn’t tell if this was true or dream. Slowly his senses came back to life accompanied by an unpleasant feeling. Pain. He tried to focus again. It wasn’t the ceiling in his quarters, that one had a huge stain on it, courtesy of a plant watering experiment gone wrong. No, this one was more familiar. Suddenly Frek remembered; it was sickbays ceiling. He was sure of it now; he had seen it plenty of times before. Although some might say that’s not a good thing, he realised. With some effort and an extreme sense of torture he turned his head, trying to get visual on the source of the rumours around him. Some of the other beds were occupied as well, it seemed sickbay was somewhat better filled than usual. Than the attack in the Nevada came back to his mind, he remembered the furious fighting. It probably had its toll on the crew. It had its toll on him, obviously. He wondered what happened to the E’rify’ks vessel, it should at least be severely damaged. He spotted Rachel, the nurse, walking towards him. Apparently she had noticed he was awake. “How are you feeling?” she said with a friendly smile. “I have felt better occasionally,” Frek managed to mumble. His throat was sore; it felt as if it hadn’t seen a drop of water for at least an eternity. “Can I have some water?” “Sure,” Rachel said as she turned around to get him a glass. She handed him a glass of water and helped him up a bit. “You should stick to minor injuries, they are a lot easier to fix you know.” “Minor injuries?” Frek questioned in-between gulps and raised an eyebrow, “I almost never have those.” He either forgot his earlier thought about being here to often or perhaps he had different view on what could be considered often. With a look on her face that clearly said ‘Yeah right’ she picked up the scanner she put down when getting the water. “Doctor Lorre asked me to do a few scans when you would come around.” Frek peered in to sickbay. “Where is she anyway?” “In her quarters getting some sleep,” Rachel replied. “Oh.” He sounded disappointed. “She was quite tired you know,” Rachel said, “We’ve been patching you up for a long time. She didn’t want to leave until she was sure you were stable.” “How long have I been out?” “Almost five hours.” Five hours, that was a long time. “Is the Nevada safe? Did we manage to get away from the E’rify’ks? Where are we now?” Frek wanted to ask a million questions. What if they hadn’t been able to get away? They couldn’t stand another attack like this. Rachel gave him grin. “Don’t worry you almost completely knocked out their ship with that stunt of yours...” Well don’t expect me to this again, Frek thought. “…and we managed to get through the gateway.” “Are we home?” Frek asked hopefully. Slowly she shook her head, the smile disappearing from her face. “No, we don’t know where we are. The Captain says we are safe for now. The ship sustained some heavy damage, we barely managed to limp away before the E’rify’ks reinforcements arrived. Repair crews are working double shift to get us going again.” Frek didn’t say anything but stared into nothing. He then looked up to the nurse. “When can I get up again? They might need all the help they can get.” “That’s for the Doctor to decide. She wanted to keep you here for a few days,” she looked at the scan results. “You should try to rest some more.” Rachel left and Frek sank back on the bed, thinking of all the thinks that had happened and what Melain would say.

Melain's questions about where they had gone came back an answerd, no one knew. One the plus side they where safe and repairs where underway. Partly on her own will, and partly under Rachel's insistance Melain retired to her qaurters to get some rest.
Her room still did not looked lived in, and she couldn't remember whether she'd actually slept on the Nevada yet. "small plate of Hasperate, Jumja tea and I'danian Spice Pudding." Melain requested from the Replicator, she had a deep yearning for the food of her homeworld. Taking the tray she headed to her desk and sifted lazily through some paper work, mostly on the death of the Iconian under her care, a few about needed medical supplies. With a sigh she shoved the PADDs aside and began on her meal. Almost immediatly the hunder pains in her stomech dissapeared, and she soon found she couldn't finish her Hasperate as a content fullness took over.
She picked up the remainder of her meal and headed to the replicator. "Computer, recycle." in a moment the tray and left over food was gone. Melain turned to the mirror and let loose her hair from the bun she kept it in on duty. Just as she began to remove her uniform, the prayer Mandala and shrine she'd set up earlier that week, (or was it last week?) cought her eye, habit drew her to her knees as she began her evening rituals.
Unlike before, she felt the peace of the prophets cascade over her like morning sunshine, lifting her fears of being lost, of inadequecy and confusion.
Melain had no idea how long she'd been in meditation when her door charmed. "Come in." she replied as she opened her eyes, to relaxed to bother getting up.
"Doctor...." The voice was familiar, and Melain realised that it must be Toledo, she'd forgotton about his request. "You are meditating, I should not have interferred." he apologised.
Melain stood up, noting concern in his voice. He looked... worried. "I was finished. What's wrong?"
"It's Mishka, my cat." Toledo began. "She'd gone into labour, but something wrong. She'd been at it for over an two hours."
Melain could understand his concern, she'd had a rabbit when she was younger and had grown to understand first hand the concern one could have for an animal. "Where is she?'
"In my quarters, should I take her to sickbay?" Toledo replied, he lead her out into the hallway.
Melain grabbed her medkit on the way out. "No, I think it's best she's in a familar enviroment. I'll come with you." Toledo nodded, and they quickly headed to his quarters.
His quarters had just enough of a mess to look comfortable. Melain was directed to one of the chairs, It looked as through Toledo had the forthought to lay some towels down for Mishka.
The small multi-coloured cat was obviosly in pain and seemed extremly tired. Melain did a quick scan before administering a small dose of rexaline. "I can't get rid of all the pain, it's necessary that she knows what's going on." Melain said quitley. "It looks like the kitten to her rear is tangled in the umbilical cord, this can happen if there are not very many kittens and if they are over due. If your could hold her head I may be able to get it untangled."
It was a slow and difficult process, but modern medicine made it possible and within half an hour two of the kittens had been born. "My scans show that she should have four if everything went well, but sometimes there is a long gap between the first couple and the rest, you should stay with her and call me if anything else goes wrong." Melain stood up and began to pack up. "She knows what to do now and won't need our help."
"Alright, thank you doctor." Toledo replied. "Would you like one?"
"Of the kittens? I haven't thught much about having a pet, don't you need to register with the First officer?" Melain asked.
"Yeah, but their getting pretty good about it as long as the pet doesn't leave your quarters. I geuss I'll have to talk to Commander Steve about this, I've only got Mishka registerd." Toledo realised. "She got away while we were on the Assailent, I'd never thought about having her neuterd. I'll see about asking around with the rest of the crew I'm sure I won't have trouble getting people to adopt."
"I'll think about it. IN a couple of days bring her by sickbay and I'll make sure this doesn't happen again. now If you don't mind my body is just screaming for a nap." Melain replied before retiring again to ger quarters

OOC: Sorry I haven't posted much. It has been a very busy month. Thank goodness it is almost over. One more weekend to go which now that I think of it I forgot to post about this coming LOA. Sorry!
Grace sat staring at the viewscreen. She knew she needed sleep but was curious as to what they would find on the other side of the gateway. She hoped it wasn't another species exterminating another. That was somtehing that went against all that Star Fleet stood for. Grace silently applauded her crewmates efforts in their stand against the E'rify'k's.
She could tell by the emotion's coming at her senses from all angles that the crew was glad to see the last of the E'rify'k, but their nerves were still on edge with the unknown that faced them now. Grace could also tell that they felt more ready to face this unknown then before. Star Fleet had prepared them well for what was to come even if they were unsure of what that was.
"Alright crew" she said quietly outloud. Steve asked "What was that you said, Grace. I didn't quite catch it?" With a slow smile, she replies "Nothing, just talking to myself, as usual. I am anxious to see what is going to happen next. One thing is for sure, it should be interesting!"
