Background story 1.
Stardate 51721.3, 2374[/b]
The office view was probably one of the best in the building. From its high position it looked down on what could be considered the most beautiful park in Rixx, the Betazoid capital. With spring in the air on this part of the planet the trees and bushes on the low hills looked fresh and lush. The green carpets of grass were speckled with the bright colours of the ground flowers that came out after the winter season, hinting towards summer. They were broken by several brooklets that meandered down to the ponds from were it was pumped up again to start the cycle again. The crystal clear water glistered in the early morning sun. For a moment he forgot everything that had been on his mind. It was easy to lose ones mind in the view and forget about the daily worries. A sound jerked him out of his trance and the harsh reality of the moment came back to him. It was the soft hum of the door, made by his adjutant entering his office. “Sir,” she said. There was something stopping her. Something in her throat. She managed to control herself, swallowed and tried again. But you could hear it in the undertone. Hidden, just under the surface of her voice. The suppressed emotion. “Sir, Dominion and Cardassian forces have invaded Betazoid space about an hour ago. Reports are just coming in. They are bit chaotic, but it in all likelihood one of the outer colonies has already been overrun.” “What!” The Fleet Captain in charge of Betazoid territorial defences had turned around to face her, his back to the window. He couldn’t believe what she was saying. It couldn’t be true. Not here. Not now. “Where the hell did they come from?” The Lieutenant handed him a PADD and licked her lips nervously. “Current intelligence seems to indicate they launched their attack from the Kalandra system.” “The Kalandra system?” The Fleet Captain frowned. The last time he had received a report from Starfleet intelligence they had believed it was too far away from Dominion space and their supply lines to be a threat. “Yes sir,” his adjutant said. She hesitated for a moment. “Sir, I think it’s best if you review the situation from the Tactical Room.” “Hmm?” The Fleet Captain looked up from the PADD and realised what she had said. “Oh, yes of course.” He gestured to the door and followed his aide de camp out. The war wasn’t going very well. The Dominion had already taken several key systems and occupied a number of important Federation systems including his own homeworld and Benzar. The recapture of Deep Space Nine a few weeks earlier, one of the Allied Forces’ rare victories, seemed insignificant compared to that. The Tactical Room was busy. Very busy. It was a fairly large room, filled with rows of consoles and large view screens mounted on the walls all around them. Tactical and communication information displayed on them, along with ship and troop movements. Normally activity here was fairly low and in peace time basically non-existent, only crewed by the absolute minimum. Now every console was taken, the air filled with the constant buzz of voices. “Captain?” He had barely stepped in the room and already someone was pulling his sleeve. He looked in the face of a Lieutenant Commander, the senior tactical officer. Ordinarily he wouldn’t have approved of people trying to get his attention by pulling his sleeves. But this was everything but a normal situation. “Report commander,” he requested. The Lieutenant Commander wasted no time in formalities and got straight to the point. “The situation is crap and rapidly getting worse.” He tapped a control and enhanced an area of a map displayed on the wall. It showed several planets and the position of the vessels that formed the line of defence. In red it showed the opposing forces. The Fleet Captain could feel the colour drain from his face as he realised what they were facing. “Oh my god,” he whispered. “Outer colonies Alpha 2 and 3 have already been overrun.” The commander plucked at his beard and highlighted a line on the map. “We’re trying to form a new line of defence here, but…” He raised his shoulders uncertainly. The Fleet Captain nodded and cursed silently. Without the Tenth Fleet here to defend them they would have no chance. Not with the few vessels available and their antiquated planetary defence systems, they were at least fifty years out of date. That damned admiral and his training exercises! “How long before they reach Betazed?” The bearded commander shook his head in a hopeless gesture. “Twenty hours at most. I wouldn’t give us an hour more then that. Not without reinforcements.”
8 HOURS LATER
“Sir, I must really urge you to evacuate.” The Lieutenant Commander barged into the office accompanied by the Fleet Captains adjutant. He looked desperate. “Most of the planetary defence are down and there are already reports of Cardassian ground forces making planetfall. You can’t stay.” The Fleet Admiral nodded. “I know Commander.” For the second time that day he turned away from the window and its view. He sighed and smiled sadly and gestured at park that lay outside the window. “I just wanted to say goodbye.” He picked up a bag containing several PADDS with important information and a phaser. “I wish I could stay.” “You know that with your knowledge we can’t risk you being captured by them, sir,” the bearded man said, “All except the defensive forces have been evacuated. I will take charge personally.” The Fleet Admiral looked at his aide. “And you?” The Lieutenant looked up from the ground and looked at him with despair her dark eyes. “I can’t leave my homeworld. I’m staying sir.” He had rather taken her with him. They had been working together for several years, but he understood and he couldn’t make himself ordering her to leave. “Well,” he said and looked around his office for a last time, “Guess this is goodbye.” The two officers stood to attention. “It has been and honour serving with you Captain NeKove” The Coridan Fleet Captain looked at the Human and Betazoid officers. “Commander Rasputin, Lieutenant Redus, it has been an honour serving with the both of you.” As the door closed behind him and he made his way to the transporter room the first grenade exploded in the capital, turning the idyllic park into a wasteland. 2. Stardate 52417.9, 2375
Although chaos was spreading throughout the planet, the capital, or what was left of it, remained fairly quiet. Thus far the Jem’Hadar troops managed to suppress the uprising with extreme violence that plagued many other parts of the planets. It was the first time during the many months of occupation that the Betazoids rose up en masse. It was the result of the efforts of a large and well organized underground resistance. In conjunction with the Second Fleet, consisting out of combined Starfleet and Klingon forces, who were about to launch their fourth offensive in a final attempt to free the Betazoid systems. Gul Naarda turned away from the same window her Federation counterpart had been standing months earlier. It was one of the few buildings still intact and the occupying Cardassian and Dominion troops took it over as headquarters. “We should have gotten those reinforcements,” Gul Naarda snapped to Nowuye, “You should have pressed them more.” Behind her the Betazed sun was setting, introducing the night. Occasionally the darkening sky was lit up again by the explosions. Now still far away, but closing in. The Vorta looked annoyed. “Reinforcements? I tried. You are aware we are a bit short of ships, aren’t you? The fleets send from the Gamma-quadrant never made it through the wormhole. Perhaps if you had managed our defences better we wouldn’t be on the verge of losing this planet.” For a moment Naarda was tempted to pull her phaser and shoot that damned Vorta. All this time he had been nothing more than a nuisance. True, the first few months they had received enough material and troops to fortify the system and the planet. But the three attacks made by the Allied Forces’ Second Fleet, although unsuccessful, resulted in severe losses and damages. And now with the uprising, they wouldn’t hold out very long. Already there had been reports of heavy fighting for domination of the outer planets of the system. She bit her lip and contained the flare of fury she felt coming up. “We’ll hold out as long as we need to complete the loading and get the ship off planet,” she said surly. “We’ll have to hurry. The Federation troops won’t be leaving us alone for ever.” The Vorta nodded. They both knew it was only a matter of time before the Federation would retake the planet. “I’ve already plotted the course to the new destination. It’s the best option to get through in one piece and keep the artefacts safe.” “I agree,” Naarda concurred, “One of you will have to report the new location to our superiors.” Throughout the occupation the Cardassians and the Dominion had managed to gatherer a significant amount of precious Betazoid valuables. From ancient statues, religious artefacts to paintings and other rare Betazoid cultural treasures. Now, in the final stages before the Federation would liberate Betazed, they were desperate to get it all to safety. Out of the hands of its rightful owners. Gul Naarda was starting to feel a bit nervous. The loading should have been completed by now. The longer they waited the harder it would be to get the transport out. Hell, it already would be a miracle now. The fighting was spreading throughout the system like wildfire and had become more furious and intense. It wouldn’t be long before Starfleet would definitely breach their defence. Once that happened the Federation would land ground forces and that would mean the end. She was about to give the order to stop the loading and let them head off with whatever they managed to stow in their cargo holds when a junior officer entered. He saluted. “Everything is ready. The cargo is onboard and the escorts are ready.” He was one of the few who knew what had been loaded on the transport. The lesser people knew about it, the better it would be. If the Allied Forces would find out they would do anything to capture the vessel. “Mr Nowuye will go join you. He’ll be in charge,” Naarda said and then to the Vorta, “Good luck.” The Vorta bowed his head, though hardly noticeable, in return. “And to you.” They had never been very fond of each other and neither of them felled the need for an elaborate goodbye. Nowuye followed the Gil out and went out of side as the door closed. They wouldn’t see each other again. Two Jem’Hadar vessels would escort the Cardassian transport out of the fighting. After that they would have to make their own way to their destination. Gul Naarda followed the three vessels on a little monitor in their effort to escape the system. Finally she let out a sigh of relief when the ships reached the edge of the system and one of them disappeared, jumping to warp. It was as if she had been holding her breath for all that time. “Thank the gods,” she muttered. She would be the last person to hear from the transport with its precious cargo and mysterious destination. In less than two hours Gul Naarda would be killed in the fights on Betazed.

3. Stardate 53029.8, 2376 Two months after the war.
On Starbase 214 Commander Harbhajan looked up from the report he just finished reading. He ran a hand through his dark hair and looked at his first officer who was sitting across his desk. One eyebrow was raised. “This is extraordinary,” he said, it could make a lot of people happy. “How reliable is this story?” He got a sceptical look from his next in command, Lieutenant Commander Zephtex. “I took the liberty of checking out the background of the story sir.” He shifted a bit in his chair and crossed his legs. “A lot of artefacts went missing during the occupation of Betazed. It was generally assumed by both sides the ship carrying them was destroyed during the final stages of the fights for the liberation of Betazed. It is possible they managed to escape but…” The Denobulan shook his head and raised his hands in a gesture to express his doubt. “The story of this guy could be true, but to say he is a reliable source would be a lie.” Commander Harbhajan flicked back to a page on his screen and quickly ran his eyes over it. For a second he stared at a painting he had hanging on the wall. One of then few decorations he had put up so far. He hadn’t been here long and hardly had taken the time to brighten up his sparsely decorated office. It wasn’t of any value, but he had always liked it. The picture of the ancient ruins under an alien sky had always appealed to him since he was a child. It gave him a sense of mystery, that there were things out there that needed to be explored. Stories to be unravelled. Adventure. “Either way,” Harbhajan decided, “We can’t simply dismiss it nonsense. We’ll see what we can find out here and send a report to Starfleet Command. I’m sure the Betazoids would want to know about this.” He sighed and tapped on his desk with his fingers, running over the facts. “Is there anything that can back his story? Personal logs, his shuttle’s sensor logs?” “Engineering is going over it now,” Zephtex replied, “So far they say they are too severely damaged to extract any useful data. Only bits and pieces.” That wouldn’t do much good. It was comparable to trying to determine a location with the help of a couple of surviving pieces from a map that had been torn up in little pieces and set on fire. “I assume our guest is still in sickbay?” Zephtex nodded in response. “Good, I’ll have a little chat with him in person.” Harbhajan pushed back his chair and got to his feet. His office was adjacent to the operations centre of the station, which also harboured the turbolift. He quickly paced through the spacey circular room. Several officers and crewmembers attended to the day to day business of the station. Mostly coordinating traffic and controlling the shipping lanes. With no special activities going they weren’t very busy. This could hardly be considered the most crowded piece of Federation space.
The doors giving access to the sickbay slit aside to let the station’s commanding officer pass. The resident doctor looked up from his file and smiled. “Ah Commander, I was already expecting you. Guess you’ve come for our latest client?” Harbhajan nodded. “Yes, I wanted to see him in person. How is he?” The Doctor shrugged. “Well, he has brought in on the verge of starvation and dehydration as well as some physical discomforts from the crash.” He paused for a moment before resuming. “But I think that’s the least of his problems. I did some neural scans, but they seem to be alright. Whatever the cause is of his incoherent behaviour, it is not physical. Whatever he went through, it was enough to make him insane.” “Is he still able to communicate?” The Doctor gave him a mirthless smile. “It depends on what you consider communication. See for yourself.” Commander Harbhajan followed the physician past a row of bio beds towards the end of the infirmary, the quarantine area. It was the only part that could be sealed off by a forcefield. “There he is,” the doctor said gesturing towards his patient. A lone Cardassian dressed in a gown provided by the doctor sat motionless on the bed. He had a restless, wild look in his eyes, which shot restlessly for one corner to the other. His hands clutched together on his lap. His lips moved as if he was muttering something. Whatever it was, it was inaudible. It was clear he was afraid of someone or something. Several days earlier he had crashed on a nearby Federation colony in a shuttle that was already in a bad shape. The colonists had contacted the Starbase, telling them about a delirious Cardassian. Now Harbhajan stood before him. “What is your name?” he tried. The Cardassian didn’t react or even looked up. Harbhajan tried again. “What ship were you on? What happened to it?” This had some effect. Slowly the Cardassian looked up. The Doctor had told him he was a young man, but at the moment he looked like had lived a long and hard life. “Ship?” he repeated and then started to giggle softly. It was the sort of giggle people make when their nerves are stretched to the end. In his case they probably already snapped along time ago. He looked up to the commander with bloodshed eyes. “They are all gone,” he whispered, “No one could save them, they are all gone. Dead.” “What happened?” Harbhajan asked. “Where are you shipmates?” For a moment the Cardassian looked blank and then stared at the commander as if nothing was the matter. “The treasure,” he said calmly, “From Betazed, we hid it.” Then all of the sudden he jumped up and smashed Harbhajan against the wall. “Don’t go there,” he hissed at a low tone, his face close to that of the Human. “It killed us, it’ll kill you too.” He slumped back unto the bio bed and started his gibberish again. The story was incoherent to say the least. The Cardassian kept repeating the same things over and over again. From what Commander Harbhajan could make out from the things he said he apparently had been a crewmember of a military transport vessel, the Rek’Nor. One of the few things they could be confirmed with data extracted from the shuttle wreck. Seemingly they had been carrying a valuable cargo from Betazed to an unknown location, where they hid it. Something must have gone wrong since he seemed to be the only survivor, the ship’s crew being killed somehow. The Cardassian managed to escape, spending six or seven months on that shuttlecraft alone before crashing on that colony.
“What do you think?” Harbhajan asked the doctor, “Is it just a figment of his imagination?” The doctor shook his head a bit helplessly. “I don’t know. His situation is rapidly getting worse. It might be true, but as easily it can be something he picked up somewhere and kept going through his mind. Half a year on a shuttle alone is a long time. I have my doubts.” The Commander was inclined to agree with him. Without any substantial proof it was just a story from someone with a deteriorating mental health. But still if there was any truth in it, it had to be investigated. “I’ll send a report to Starfleet Command,” he told the doctor. “They will have to make decision about it.”
Based on the report Starfleet Command decided, after careful consideration, it was worth to pursue the leads provided. It was not the only expedition to be mounted in order to find the valuable items. News of the ‘Treasure of the Mad Cardassian’, as it became known, spread quickly through the area. Apart for the official Starfleet expedition and a second Betazoid organised one, several adventurous treasure hunters tried their luck. Most vessels returned without ever finding a thing, some never returned at all. The Cardassian was taken home where he died not long after. With time passing interest in the story faded and with no new clues the story of the Mad Cardassian and his treasure was becoming more and more a modern myth.

4. Stardate 68897.6, 2391 Fifteen years later.
A lone ore carrying freighter of Talarian origin was making its way through the empty space. And in this stretch of the galaxy, far away from any shipping lanes, empty really meant empty. It was on its return from a mining colony in one of the outer regions. The ship had delivered a load of supplies and a fresh crew for the mining operation. Now with its holds filled to the top with the precious ore and the old crew onboard it was making its way back to Talarian space. The Captain of the vessel would be glad when was back in port. The mining colony was a miserable place on a miserable planet. With its thin toxic atmosphere it contained no life at all and it was plagued by frequent storms. The work there was hard. Long hours, dangerous and surprisingly bad paid. And with the stints lasting six months it took a special brand of people who were willing to work under such conditions. The brand that had their own good reasons to disappear for a while. Captain Galdor didn’t trust them trust for anything in the world. He loathed having them on his ship. And most of them weren’t even Talarian. There was a Nausicaan, a Bolian, an Orion and surprisingly a Vulcan amongst the group. And if a Vulcan goes wrong it really must be a nasty bunch. With some irritation he put down his glass and answered the intercom. “Galdor here.” Let me guess, he thought, the miners are having another brawl with the crew. “Captain, I’m picking up a faint distress call.” At least not another brawl. “I’ll be right there.” Somewhat stiff he lowered his feet from his bed to the ground and got up. He stretched himself with a look on his face that showed reluctance. He was tired. He walked up to his communications officer. “All right,” he said to him, “What do you have?” “It seems to be an automated transponder signal.” The young male showed him the information on his screen. “Probably an escape pod. We picked it up about ten minutes ago.” Galdor raised his voice a bit. “Distance?” “Point three light years. Heading 343 mark 010” the pilot called back. She made a quick calculation. “That’s a two hour detour,” she added unasked. Almost automatically his hand rubbed the ridge on his head. It was one of his characteristics. He always did that when he had to make a decision. “Any life signs?” “Can’t tell yet.” It was a civilian freighter; it didn’t have the advanced sensors one would find on survey ships or military vessels. “Set an intercept course Burla,” Captain Galdor said, “If there’s anyone alive in that pod let me know, if not continue our heading.” “Sure boss,” Burla said, “No problem.” With a little luck he could keep on sleeping.
No such luck. The two of them stood staring at the escape pod, while the chief engineer tried to open it, when the Orion and the big Nausicaan female appeared. “Why have we stopped?” the Orion demanded to know. He was clearly the more intelligent and the leader of the two. Captain Galdor seemed impassive. “We picked up an escape pod. One Ferengi life sign.” The Nausicaan stared at him with disgust. “We stopped for a Ferengi?” She almost spat the name of the species out. Something hissed. The engineer had managed to open the hatch and the pressure of the pod equalized with that of the freighter. An old Ferengi crept out, shook of some crumbs and stared at the diverse company surrounding him in the shuttle bay. “Take a medical scan,” the Captain said to Burla, “See if he’s alright.” “He won’t be if he annoys us,” the Orion said. Galdor gave him a warning look and then turned to Burla. “Give him something to eat and a place to sleep. I’ll talk to him tomorrow.” He turned around and left. The Ferengi still stood there staring with gleamy eyes and then chuckled. “Treasure,” he said, “Lot’s of it, big profit.” The Nausicaan and the Orion exchanged a quick glance. Perhaps it wouldn’t hurt to have a drink with this particular old Ferengi.

Mission Stardate 69034.3, 2392 Present day.
On Starbase 47 the head of the section with the same designation went over the report he had received from Starfleet Intelligence. It had come with a request from the Federation council to take the matter under his care. According to the report the old Ferengi picked up by the Talarian freighter proved to be the cook on a Ferengi tramp vessel. His ship had suffered a malfunction in the navigation department, or better said it had given out completely due to the lack of maintenance to cut the operating costs. They had continued flying blind for almost more than a week, hoping to reach an inhabited world to make repairs. They ended up being caught in a severe storm which had thrown them of course considerably. Without working navigation they had no idea where they were or where they were going. When they finally entered a system they seemed to have found something of huge profit on a planet they had been unable to identify and some wreckage they recognized as of Cardassian origin. His shipmates had mysteriously died and he himself barely managed to escape with the transport vessel. With his lack of technical understanding he had been unable to cope with the already damaged ship and was forced to abandon it after a few days and had been picked up two weeks later.
Before having read up on it Admiral Duke Nova had some vague recollection of the ‘Treasure of the Mad Cardassian’, aware it was a something of a myth in this region. The intelligence report about the Ferengi seemed to match with the story. “Do we have any ships in that area?” the Admiral asked his Fleet Operations officer. The officer shook his head. “No sir. We’ll have to pull a ship away from another operation.” Admiral Nova frowned. “Are you saying all the vessels at our disposal are engaged otherwise?” “Yes sir.” The officer seemed to hesitate. “Well… there is the Nevada. She’s currently docked at Starbase Bellicose.” Nova sighed deeply. That ship seemed to have a talent for getting into trouble. Not so long ago they almost caused a major diplomatic incident. And wasn’t its captain being called away to a hearing, something to do with his ability to command? He asked the officer. “That’s right Admiral. If I’m not mistaken we are expected to attend as well. In two weeks I believe.” “Guess we’ll have no choice,” Nova said. “The Nevada’s first officer, what was his name again, will have to take command on this one.” The fleet operations officer nodded. “Colonel Hrisvalar sir. Shall I inform Admiral Clark and relay all the information we have?” “Do that,” Nova agreed, “Have him send out the Nevada as soon as they are ready to leave dock.”

OOC:
I'm guessing that this is the thread on which the mission will take place? If not, let me know, and I'll delete it and move it to whatever thread is to be used...
IC:
Nick woke up from his long sleep, well rested and eager to face the new day. He resolved to not allow his worries to get the best of him (at least not until he had eaten breakfast) and to tackle whatever challenges came his way.
He put on his robe and ordered a serving of "fried taters and eggs" for his morning meal, with hot sauce all over it. It tasted wonderful, and the spicieness woke him up. Then he showered and dressed, and went to the Armory to check up on how the post-Borg mission situation was. Everything seemed in order. Cyle wasn't there, so he wondered if he was at the bridge, or possibly elsewhere.
The turbolift took a few seconds longer to arrive than normal. He wondered if it was travelling slower, or more people were using it today. He'd have to ask Hannah about that one.
On arriving at the bridge, he found it only lightly staffed. *Must be early* he thought to himself. He was the only senior officer present, and relieved Danara, who had the night watch. She glared at him, but fortunitaly didn't say anything. He did his best to cheerfully greet her. As he took his station, he had to push his worries away again. The console showed everything in order, and nothing to worry about. There was a message there for him to read. Now that they were at the station, he would have to help oversee restocking of the Tactical/Security equipment. As well as seeing to it that his staff was fully manned after the Borg attack. A few of his men were injured. Though, at least for a while, he could manage to run on a partially staff.
There was nothing to do about that for now, though in about an hour he would have to go and see about that stuff. But at the moment, there was nothing to do but wait and see what happened. *Wonder what our next misson will be...*
<Tag whoever else wants to get the mission going!>
Edit: Separated to 'night watch', to avoid getting nighthingych (due to tw*t changing to thingy).

Hannah awoke and shot straight up into a sitting position on her bed throwing her sheets to the floor. She was shaking, sweat dripped down her white face and she felt like she was about to cry. She stood up and rushed into the bathroom. She drenched her face in water, trying to put the nightmare out of your mind.
“Computer what’s the time?” she asked as wiped her face dry.
“0527 hours,” came the response. She returned to her bed and lifted her sheets back up over her. She closed her eyes and images from her nightmare appeared in front of her eyes. Her eyes shot open and she starred up at the ceiling and her mind drifted back to the countless nightmares she had about her mother and realizing that they hadn’t been as bad as they were lately since just after her mother had died.
She leaped up out of her bed deciding it was pointless to dwell on her nightmares. She changed into her gym wear, grabbed her racket and swiftly headed out of her quarters. The corridors were empty and she passed no one on the way to the holodeck. She tapped the console on the wall that brought up the list of exercise programs and selected the racket ball simulation.
Hannah entered the room noticing her opponent stood on the far side of the room. She picked up the ball and served. She hoped the exercise would distract her mind from the nightmares and waste sometime before her duty shift started.
About an hour later she exited the holodeck and returned to her quarters. The excise had done her good and she forgotten about the nightmare. When she arrived in her room, she took a quick sonic shower and had some breakfast. She was too awake now to go back to bed, so she went to engineering.
As Hannah came into engineering, she realized that she was still early and no one else from the day shift had arrived yet. She walked into her office and looked at the list of jobs on her computer. She picked the one on the top of the list, the equipment check and entered her name in for the job. She started by checking the toolkits in the storage locker, running diagnostics on all the repair equipment in them. As she worked her mind drifted wondering where they would be sent next and hoped it had nothing to do with Borg.

Melain awoke from a deep sleep, something she had not done in awhile. Maybe it was because she'd gone clean with Danara, maybe because the prevoise evening she'd contacted her parents and cleared up the details on thier past.
her real father's name was Tellel. Him and her mother, Lenary, where in a small terrorist cell on the station, involved mainly in reconaissance, getting Cardassian information to the rebels back on Bajor. Her uncle worked with them, but her aunt, Reval Melain (that was where Melain's name came from) remained relativly out of the business, passing on any information she heard of in the station's hospital but no more then that. The entire family had hope rising on Lenary's unborn child, their gaol was to insure the child was brought up in a free Bajor, but things went wrong. Once Tellel and Reval Melain where executed Lenary took her identical sister's place and they got off the station. Joined the fledgling Maquis, then made their way to earth where Melain was born.
Melain's mother promised to sort everything out legaly now that Melain knew the truth. It was something she'd meant to do for ages, but never got the courage to get started. Melain did not tell them about Danara's grandfather. Her family was hesitant about her Cardassian friend, insisting that although they loved that she was keeping an open mind, thier past made it difficult to embrace the friendship.
Melain took a sonic shower and got dressed, she ponderd paying Danara a visit, but decided it would be best to wait and let Danara make the next move. Her shift did not start for a few hours, and Melain had no desire to rush back into sickbay and do paperwork. Instead she headed to the mess hall for some brekfast. "Jumja tea, hot, pancakes with light surup." she waited a moment and picked up her plate. Glancing around she saw Danara seated in the corner picking at the remains of a cinemon bun on her plate. Melain resisted the temptaion to head over there and picked an empty table on the opposite end.
"Hey, I was wondering If I'd see yiou hear. You missed an excellent Sermon on forgiveness' Melain looked up and saw Javell, dressed in occupation style Bajoran clothes.
"That's alright, I got my own sermon on that topic. What are ou wearing?" She asked, inviting him to sit down.
"Holodeck costume, are you familiar with the relic preservation cell?" Javell replied taking the seat. Of course Melain was, the RPC worked against the Cardassians during the occupation to steal and hide valuable relics that had been ransacked from Temples, monestarys, museums, art gallerys and the sort. The where reknown for their intricate plans and courage. "I have a program of some of their exploits, it's quite riveting, you should join me sometime."
"What do you do?" Melain asked, the concept remineded her of the 'Indianna Jones' holonovels one of her high school friends was obsessed with.
"Variose things, sneak into Cardassion outposts to steal relics back, take over transports, ransack museums before the cardassians get there and then hide the relics in the mountain ranges where the Cardassian's can't reach them. You know they are still looking for some of those Caches, the RPC hid them so well they have a hard time remembering where they all are." Javell seemed raptured by the program, it must be one of his favorites.
Melain nodded "Don't give it away then, I'd like to try it out."
"Great, well I'd better get going, shift starts in a fifteen moments and I can't go looking like this." Javell stood up, reached down to grab a pancake and shoved it in his mouth "orry, go t et."
Melain laughed as surup dripped down his face. 'I'd better finish up as well." --------------
Sickbay was relativly quiet just as Melain suspected. She had some remaining paper work to slog through about the Borg attack and was going to pay a visit to some of the Patient's she'd let go home but told to take it asy. Unless she dropped in unsuspected, chances where they'd be trying to push themselves too far

--- Tribunal, Earth – SD 920116.63 ---
- “Commander First Class Harrias Jira, after reviewing the evidence given including a full psychological profile, this court hereby finds you not guilty of all charges of gross misconduct and negligence. You are therefore deemed fit to command, and as of this moment, stardate 920116.63 you are to regain the rank of Captain, with all attached duties and privileges. Command of the USS Nevada-A will be returned to you. I believe that a mission has recently been assigned to the vessel, which is still at Starbase Assailant. A vessel is waiting to transport you there.”
As the verdict was read out, Harrias collapsed backwards into his seat in pure exultation and relief. It had been a tough and intense week, which he was glad had finally come to an end. He stood back up as his (re)promotion had been read out, and gratefully accepted the extra pip when it was clasped onto his collar ceremonially. He smiled for what felt like the first time in weeks, and shook hands with each member of the tribunal committee that he had spent every waking hour of the past four days with. The three before that had been full of examinations, questions, reviews, even semi-invasive surgery. Summed up, it had not been a fun time.
But now it was over, now he was going back to the Nevada. And seemingly, just in time. He thought about what would have happened without him. Oh, he trusted Colonel Hrisvalar to run the ship, of that there was no doubt. On the other hand, the second officer; Frek. Having him as first officer for a mission would have been an – interesting experience.
--- SB Bellicose - SD: 920117.91 ---
- “Commander Jameson, we have a vessel coming in fast requesting a berth, the USS Raleigh. She’s giving a priority two code.” - “Give her bay 5. Contact the grazerite freighter captain and tell him that he will have to wait a bit longer.” - “Aye sir. Your presence is being requested.” - “Priority two, I better go I suppose.”
A few minutes later, Harrias Jira stepped through the airlock to leave the Raleigh, and shook hands with Jameson immediately. - “I was expecting the Admiral.” - “He’s busy with some investigation that's going on, I know very little about it.” - “Of course. You have the orders for the Nevada?” - “I do.” He passed the trill captain a PADD “You are to go the Mu Andromedae sector. There, you will investigate the allegations outlined in this report.” - “I see. Do we have a time-frame?” - “If you find nothing in 30 days, you are to return here. To be honest that is what everyone is expecting. But I’m not sure – that ship of yours seems to warp reality. Who knows what will happen.” - “It isn’t always the most predicable of voyages on board I’ll admit.” Harrias conceded easily with a smile. - “Good luck Captain. And it’s good to see you back in the centre seat.” - “Flattery won’t get you a promotion you know. But it might buy you a drink when I return.”
By now, the fast-paced walk that the pair had been taking around the base had finally got them to the Nevada’s bay. With a brief nod of his head, Harrias acknowledged Jameson, and then turned into the small transport pod that would take him back to the Nevada.
--- USS Nevada – SD: 920117.92 ---
As he heard the familiar ringing of the deck plates under his feet, Harrias felt like he was home again. Which of course, he was really. Slowly each officer on the bridge turned to look at their Captain and the trill felt his cheeks starting to flush, but controlled it. He noticed that almost all of the bridge crew were now on duty, although they were still missing a couple of the usual faces. Understandable, the shift didn’t start for 10 minutes yet. - “Mr Thelev. Lay in a course for the Mu Andromedae sector. Best possible speed.”OOC: I'm back! - Couldn't stay away!

Melain gratefully set down the last report with a thud. At last she was free of that awful burden., now on to the next one. Patients who refused to obey orders to take it easy. She had a list of five individuals to pounce on and with quick word to Rachel about her where abouts, headed off to being the hunt. Enign Thomson was founf in the mess hall, ready for duty chatting with a female friend. "Thomson, I certainly hope that uniform is being worn for show, after all I would not want to resort to adding a repremend to your file." Melain exclaimed fakely. The girl giggled and Thomson blushed.
"Just heading to my quarter's now doc, wearing it in, you know." He mumbled.
"Of course you are." Melain replied. Now that he knew she was on his case he'd probably do as he was told. One crewmember was caught fixing a conduit on deck 5, favoring his injured shoulder. 'You'll only do it worse, get to your quarters I'll tell Lieutenant Stevensen where you've gone." Two where taking it easy as orderd, but the fifth was using a day without work to try out a new holoprogram. Since the program consisted mainly of running about a muddly field shooting t 20th century soldiers Melain orderd him back to his quarters with a stiff warning.
Feeling somewhat victoriose she was started when she felt the ship gve a slight jerk, noticiable only because of her limited experiance. the ship was pulling away from the station, but where it was going was still to be seen. Without a second thoughts she hopped in the next turbolit (which moved annoyingly slow) and stepped out onto the brigdge to be met witha wonderfully familiar face
Harrias, you're back.... I mean Captain It is wonderful to see you reinstated." Melain smiled, the ship had felt empty wihtout it's leader and Melain was wondering how long it would be till temperary First officer Thelev caused massive casualties. She had to admit she had some doubts about Harrias being reinstated, he was an excellent captain, but at times did not seem to meet federation standards. At any right she supported the court's move in giving him back his pip and ship. "Where are we off to?" She asked
"Don't you read your messages Doctor?' Harrias asked, Melain geussed he was joking.
Melain shook her head "I hardly had time between paper work and patient hunting. I don't see why the crew feels it can ignore my orders to take life easy after an injury."

Grace stepped on to the bridge off the turbolift, which seemed to have been running a little slow. She noticed the Captain in his chair, with a little smile on her face she walked over to her own chair, sat down and said quietly "It's about time you got back to work, Sir!".
Harrias returned her smile, actually it was the most sincere smile Grace had seen on his face in a long time, he replied quietly as well "Thank you Grace. And thank you for your psychological report to the court on my behalf. It was very helpful to the court."
"Just doing my job sir. I calls 'em as I sees 'em, sir!"
"Quit calling me sir, Commander."
"Alright, but it sounds so official when I say it to you. Now, what's this about treasure, is there a map with an X marked on it."
"All in good time, Grace. I will be calling a briefing shortly."
"Another adventure, let's hope no one goes crazy on this one."
"I agree. Who's turn is it anyway?"
"Jamey, but he will not be here, so we are in good shape."

With most of the senior staff now on their posts the Nevada had set course to their destination, moving away from Starbase Bellicose and their Operations Officer Jamey Parker. Everyone seemed to be working quietly. Most damages caused by the Borg had been repaired except for some minor issues which could be done underway fairly easily. The main viewer displayed the stars ahead most of them bright dots in a scale of colours, while the ones on the sides were deformed into stripes of light. A trained eye could recognise which stripes were actual stars and which ones were debris hitting the deflector shields.
At the helm Frek made a small correction to the navigation sensors. Finally they had received a software update to upgrade the navigation programs and some firmware for the equipment. It was long overdue. Last time they had received an update it was meant for an Oberth class ship and hadn’t been compatible. On the far end of the navigation chart a star named Lyshan appeared, still eight light-years away. Long range sensors confirmed the location of a star on that position. Satisfied Frek leaned back in his chair. For once everything seemed to be working properly.
They were well underway for at least three or four hours when Captain Harrias Jira, fresh in command again, decided it was time to inform his senior crew of the assignment they had been given. He had retired into his ready-room earlier. Leaving the routine business on the bridge to his first officer. In detail in he had gone over the information available. It wasn’t much, although perhaps there was something, something he had just received, that might be worth a look. He activated the ship’s intercom and set it to ship wide. He smiled before saying the words he said on almost every other mission he had commanded.
“All senior staff report to the conference room. Briefing in ten minutes.” The intercom went silent again and Jira made his way to the bridge and then to the conference room himself.
Angrily Frek addressed a crewman passing by. “Why does he always have to do that?” he demanded to know. The crewman looked uncertain what to do or how to respond. After all, he hadn’t done anything. He replied carefully. “I don’t know sir. Perhaps he wants to tell you something.” What a genius remark. Of course he wanted to tell them something. That was what briefings were for. Grouchy Frek put down the sandwich. “I know,” he said sarcastically and sighed a sigh filled with self pity. “But why always when I’m having lunch?”
He caught up with Melain and Lieutenant Stevenson, the new engineer in the turbolift. It was a short turbolift ride and soon they made their way to the conference room. “Uhm Commander?” Hannah halted him before entering the room. “Yes?” “You’ve got some, uh…” She pointed to the corner of his mouth. He quickly ran a hand over it. “Oh thanks.” “What is it anyway?” Melain inquired. Frek scowled. “A little bit of the lunch I didn’t get to have. Hot cat.” “You mean a hot dog?” Hannah corrected. “No no, hot cat. It’s the Tarkelean variant. Much Better.” With a sad expression on his face Frek looked at his companions. “I was craving for one all day. You know, my antennas will probably fall off because of a lack of nutrition.” Melain looked sceptical as they entered the room and took a seat. “Frek, most things you eat don’t have any nutritious value at all. I doubt this being an exception.” “You see?” Frek turned to Hannah and looked semi-indignant, “Instead of providing some comfort I get a lecture about how to live a healthy life.”
Captain Jira did a quick headcount and started his briefing now they were all here. “Have any of you ever heard of the ‘Treasure of the Mad Cardassian’?” He looked around the table. None of the officers reacted. He wasn’t surprised he hadn’t heard of it himself before recently. Concisely and in a lucid way he explained the assignment to his senior officers.
(for details see mission outline and prologue)
“As you can see we don’t have very much to go on,” he concluded. “What do we know about the Cardassian?” Melain asked. “Not much,” Jira replied. “His identity was never really uncovered. He died shortly after being found. They tried a DNA test, but with the Dominion bombing at the end of the war a lot of records got destroyed, so…”
‘Treasure of the Mad Cardassian’, Frek thought. The name had a certain appeal. And of course mad and Cardassian were to things that went well together. A bit like Ferengi and annoying.
“If we can retrace the path of the Cardassian shuttle and see if it coincides with the possible trajectory of the Ferengi tramp vessel we might reduce the search area.” Jira nodded. “We might have a new clue in that direction Colonel.” The Captain pressed a button and on the screen appeared the image of single star system, zooming in on a planet. It had a deep green-blue colour with landmasses visible as brown and dark green large patches.
“I got this about an hour after we left spacedock. This planet is called Anu’T-Rof. Located in about halfway down the border areas of Talarian space. It’s a pre-warp society in its late space-age. Intelligence picked up a rumour about a small alien vessel landing there fifteen years ago to take in supplies.”
“And this might be our Cardassian?” Hannah asked. “Could well be,” Jira replied, “Half a year in shuttle requires some supplies.” “But if it’s pre-warp we are not allowed to make contact,” Grace noted, “The cultural contamination.”
Jira smiled. “Normally you would be right, but not in this case. They’ve been in contact with the Talarians and half a dozen other alien species for over fifty years. Including the Ferengi if I’m not mistaken. Cultural contamination would be virtually non-existend.”
The fact the Anu’T-Rofs had previous contact with alien cultures made it much easier for them. It would allow them to go down and see what they could find out. Hoping to find a clue.
“And the Ferengi?” Grace asked, “Where is he?” Captain Jira shook his head. “We don’t know for sure. He never disembarked on a Federation station of planet. Intelligence thinks he might have teamed up with that bunch of ‘miners’ that were on the Talarian freighter. We should get more information on them soon.”
He had been talking for a while now. He took a sip from the glass of water in front of him and cleared his throat. “As you can see we face various problems. First of all we need to find that ‘treasure planet’ and secondly, get on and off that planet without being killed by whatever made the crews of those other ships very deceased. And of course we have to watch out for that bunch of crooks. Any questions?”

Melain listened intently as Harrias explained the mission, a treasure hunt, sounded exciting, Javell would be in his element based on what they'dtalked about earlier. The only thing that concerned her was the mad Cardassian, that single adjective meant bad news. Whatever had been purposly, or inadvertantly put in pace to guard the betazoid relics had caused insanity on both the cardasian, and this ferengi.
"Any questions." Harrias asked.
"Yes, Command didn't happen to send us any medical scans on the Ferengi did they?" Melain asked, she wanted to knnow what they would be dealing with.
''I'm afraid not, he was rather uncooperative an would not let them preform any tests." Harrias replied.
By the temple, policy could be such a pain sometimes. Necessary yes, but so inconviniant. "What about the Cardassian?"
Harrias shook his head "Star Fleet does not have access to any of his files, however the Cardassian's might be willing to let you have a peak at anything they have."
Melain bit her lip in frustration "I highly doubt they will let me anywhere near such data, but I'll try my best."
"Maybe not you alone, but perhaps Danara will have more pull with them. She is, acording to her file, connected." Nick pointed out. "I realise that might be awkward doctor, but it could be the only way to get that information."
"She's connected alright, her Grandfather's a member of the Detapa Council" Melain replied.
"Excellent, then it is settles: Doctor Lorre, Grace and Ensign Danara will contact the Cardassian Archives and get the psychoanalysis on the Cardassian in Question." Harrias decided.
Melain looked over at Grace, and wonderd if how difficult this was going to be regarding the past few days. Then again if it was duty then perhaps they'd be able to keep professional and not discuss their tangled pasts.

Great, a treasure hunt, just what i needed after dealing with the borg, another whirlwind adventure to make me go crazy.
Obviously Cyle didnt like this mission, and his facial features showed it. He rolled his eyes at the mention of a treasure hunt, and shook his head at the mention of the mad Cardassian.
this ship must be curse, we alwasy get stuck with strange missions
off, not much more for to go on there, but hey, i do what i can

Nick had just got back on the bridge from overseeing restocking the weapon stores when Commander...no: Captain Jira entered the bridge. Nick had not really served under him yet, but he could tell everyone else respected and looked up to him, so Nick figured he was a good Captain. He was glad to see him back, and in command. Everyone was greeting him, and Nick gave a nod of his own.
After a while longer, a briefing was called, and Nick called for a replacment and, once she had arrived, went to the conference room. The Captain gave the briefing on the "Mad Cardassian" treasure hunt. While he wasn't too thrilled with the mission, Nick was still interested. After all, he heard the Nevada had a habit of getting into strange situations, so he waited to see what came of this.
During the discussion period, the records of the Cardassians came up, and Melain spoke of how she probably couldn't get them. With all of his staff's info still fresh in his mind: "Maybe not you alone, but perhaps Danara will have more pull with them. She is, acording to her file, connected." Nick pointed out. "I realise that might be awkward doctor, but it could be the only way to get that information."
She agreed and her, Danara, and Grace were put on the assignment.
Then Nick brought up his question: "So, we have crooks after us, a pre-warp civilization, and deadly artifacts to contend with. Is there anything, or anyone, else that may present a tactical/security problem for us?"
<Tag Jira, or whoever it is with the info...>

Grace looked at Melain and could tell by her face that she was not looking forward to working so closely together with Danara. Grace knew it wasn't that Melain didn't like Danara it was more a fact that Danara had not had enough time to take in all the information Melain had given her. Danara could be difficult at the best of times but Grace knew that Star Fleet meant a lot to Danara and that she would do her job to the best of her abilities if ordered to. Grace would be the one to give Danara her orders, she didn't think it would be a good idea for Melain to do, although, Nick would be the more logical choice as he was Danara's commanding officer. Grace would mention that to Nick on their way out.
Mad Cardassian Treasure! Why does everyone think the Nevada gets into dodgy situations. This sounded more like a fun adventure to Grace with the exception of the 'going mad' part or the dying part, "We could do without those two things" Grace thought, then "That is why Melain needs the records of the mad cardassian, maybe instead of Nick ordering Danara, I should appeal to Danara's better judgement." With that decided, Grace continued to listen.

Hannah listened to the mission briefing and found the idea of searching for hidden treasure quite interesting. But she knew that it could be a potentially dangerous mission with criminals after the treasure as well and they wouldn’t let the Nevada stand in their way of finding it. She wondered what had sent the Ferengi and Cardassian insane and if they actually found the treasure would that send them insane too.
As the briefing finished she exited the room and entered the turbolift followed by Frek.
“Cargobay 2,” she requested and then looked toward Frek for his destination. She had been doing an equipment check when the briefing had been called and had left the container filled with toolboxes open and a PAD resting on the corner of the container. She wanted to finish that equipment check off before reading though all the information on the mission and this pre-industrial civilization. She always liked to be prepared before going into any situation.
“Messhall,” Frek said a few moments later.
“Going to finish your cold cat dog,” she said with a smile.
“Hot cat,” he corrected.
“Finish your cold hot cat then, is that anything like a hot dog?” she asked, she had been wondering about that though out the briefing.

(O.O.C Frek use the O.O.C thread... Oh wait then what am I doing ) Once the breifing was dismissed Melain stood up and headed to where Grace was seated. "Should you, Nick or I deliver Danara's orders?" "Let's page her to the Bridge and use the communication's consol there to contact the Cardassian Archives. You will stay out of site unless I decide it's alright for you to be seen, but we'll have Danara do the talking, she's the one with the pull." Grace replied, this sounded like a good idea with Melain, Grace would be able to judge the archiver's sentiments better then her or Danara. Melain followed the counsellor out of the briefing room to the bridge =A=Ensign Danara, please report to the bridge immediatly. =A= Grace orderd. Danara arived a few minutes later, looking curiose. she seemed to stiffen as she saw Melain, but her face did not look angry, only uncomfortable. "You called?" she asked. Melain spoke up, this was after all a favor for her. "We need to get some Medical information on a Cardassian and the only people who might have that information are the Cardassian Archives. now it is unlikely that I will have any luck getting them to cooperate, but you..." "Are connected. Grandfather warned me about this, he told me the federation was probably jumping with joy when they saw my application form. Who is the cardassian?" Danara asked. Melain looked down at the PaDD in her hand from the breifing, "Hmm... they never seem to say his name.. A here it is: Glinn Talak." "The Mad Cardassian." Danara smiled. "So we are being sent on a treasure hunt." "For lack of a better term, yes we are. You know of him?" Melain asked. Danara nodded "Most Cardassians do. Insanity isn't taken well in our sociaty, but his tale was so popular he became famouse for awhile. I seem to recall a series of childern's stories about him botching up every day chores, causing havoc..." "Sounds lovely." Melain replied sarcastically. "Grace and I will write down what you need to ask for, all we need you to do is name drop a little and do the talking. Grace and I are going to stay out of site, for obvious reasons unless something goes wrong." "Alright, I'll contact the archives." Danara sat down at the comm station and began working. "So, what should she say?" Melain asked, she was unsure of what formalities where required in such a situation. Cardassia was allied with the federation, but relations where often tense. <Tag Grace>

There was a hardly noticeable shock and a soft hum as the turbolift set itself to motion, whisking its passengers away to their selected destinations. The briefing had lasted longer then he had hoped, much longer. The mention of the hot cat made him feel even hungrier then he already was. He could almost see it floating before his eyes.
“So?” Hannah asked.
The image of the hot cat vanished as he was being brought back to reality again. “Oh sorry,” Frek apologized. “A hot cat…it’s something similar, only the other way around.”
“The other way around?”
“Yeah,” Frek explained. “The meat is wrapped around the bread bun, which is filled with some kind of spicy sauce.”
“What kind of meat is it?”
Frek thought about it for a second. “I don’t actually know and really doubt I want to.”
“Just like with a hot dog,” Hannah mumbled. “So what do you make of this whole treasure seeking thing?”
Frek shrugged. “To be honest I’m a bit sceptical about the whole thing.”
There was delicate change of pitch in the humming being made by the turbolift. If it weren’t for the inertial dampeners the deceleration would be clearly noticeable. The doors slit open to an almost empty corridor.
“You know,” Frek said to Hannah, “I’ve actually been on a treasure hunt before.”
Hannah looked surprised. “Did you?”
“Yeah,” Frek affirmed, “Was while back though. Must’ve been sixteen or seventeen at the time.”
“So how did it end?” Hannah looked curious.
“Badly.” Frek scowled for a moment. “I managed to break a leg.”
Involuntarily Hannah stared at his legs for a brief moment before looking up again. “That must have been rather unpleasant.”
Frek nodded. “It was. Horrible in fact.”
“I’m sure you were in a lot of pain,” Hannah said looking sympathetically.
“Huh? Pain,” Frek said, “No no, not me…”
“But you just said…” Hannah was getting a bit confused.
“Oh no,” Frek explained. “The leg I broke wasn’t mine.”
He frowned. “I think he forgave me. Eventually. After all, it was just an accident.”
“Right…”
Frek gestured to the corridor leading to the messhall. “Why don’t you join me for a hot cat? They’re really good. I can tell you about the treasure hunt. If you like.”

“Sure,” Hannah said with a smile as she following him out of the turbolift. The talk of food had made her stomach begin to rumble. She also had a great curiosity about this hot cat and really wanted to try it. The equipment check could wait it wasn’t as if it need to be done now, just part of the engineering standard checks that have to be done every so often.
“I’ve never been on a treasure hunt,” Hannah admitted as they entered the messhall, “I find the whole idea kind off exiting, but I’m still a bit nervous hope it doesn’t turn out like your treasure hunt with any broken bones.”
He nodded in agreement.
“Two hot cats,” she said to replicator and watched as they appeared in front of her. She lifted up one plate and handed it to Frek and then lifted up her own. They walked over to a nearby table and sat down. Hannah stared at the hot cat for a moment and then took a bit. She chewed it slowing taking in the taste.
“Do you like it?” he asked as she swallowed her first bite full.
“It actually really nice, but I probably shouldn’t eat two many as they don’t seem that health,” Hannah responded. Hannah took another bite and then turned to Frek.
“Come on then, tell me what happen on this treasure hunt,” Hannah inquired.

Melain read over the "script" one more time, and handedit over to Danara, who readit over and frowned, "Could you have made it moe diplomatic?" she asked sarcastically.
"Not really, diplomacy is nessesary when dealing with something of this nature." Melain replied.
"Alright, Keep in mind if I fail we can always pull up the childern's series on Talak." Danara commented as she placed the PaDD in front of her. Melain wasn't sure if she was joking or not, what where Cardassian childern's books like?
A moment later the Cardassian embolim filled the screen as they where 'put on hold' for a moment. Then a disgruntled fairly tubby Cardassian dominated their view. Melai began to fid it difficult to both stay out of site, and be able to see at the same time.
"Ensign Danara eh, Federation puppet I assume. What do they want?" he grumbled. "Out with it girl I haven't got time to sit around."
"By the looks of it you sit around a fair bit." Danara replied cooly. "I suspect you are not familiar with me, this is hardly a surprise. But if I find you give me a hard time I could always bring your name up in the company of certain... powers."
The Cardassian laughed. 'O please, this hardly sounds federation. What are you up to girl, tell me so I can decline quickly and get back to my work."
"I'm hardly a girl any longer. What was your name again, for future referance." Danara asked. Melain found herself getting tense, Danara was not following the script at all.
"Yalam Wran." The man replied hesitently, "what... what would be your full title? For... future referance as well."
"Ensign Tany Danara, first Grandaughter to Enebran Galak Danara." Danara smiled. 'I'm sure you recougnise his name."
The man's face went pale. "Of course, of course... dirty trick. Well played, but a dirty trick. Alright then what can I do for you?"
Within minutes Talak's medical files had been sent over to the Nevada, Danara wished Wran a plesent day and the connection was severd.
"That went well dont you think?" Danara asked,
Melain was almost speechless. ' You should have... joined the Obsidian order with that kind of sly talk."
Danara smiled. "Thank you. Cardassians handle those types of situations differently among themselves, I certainly hope you didn't mind Counsellor?"

Danara frowned as she read the personnel record that she had just acquired. - “You know, I’m not sure this is the lead we were looking for. This officer did serve on the Rek’Nor, but they are one of the many that is listed as ‘Missing in Action’” - “Surely they were all listed as that, even the one we want?” - “It just doesn’t seem to tally. The portrait we saw in the briefing doesn’t resemble this one at all, look.”
The pair of senior staff members leaned over Danara’s shoulder to look at the picture on the personnel record. - “Damn.” - “I don’t understand, this is the name we have.” - “Either we were purposely given the wrong name, or we were purposely given the wrong record.” Danara commented unenthusiastically. - “Or we just had the wrong name.” Lorre replied, slightly aggressively, as if she were making a point. - “Who’s going to tell the Captain?” Grace asked.
Danara and Lorre looked at each other, neither relishing the prospect. After a few seconds both their gazes moved over to Grace. - “You seem to get on well with him.” - “Yeh, I’m sure it would be less of a blow coming from you.”
--- * --- * ---
Sat at his desk in the ready room, Harrias was sorting through a small backlog of reports. Although Colonel Hrisvalar had done a very good job of running the ship in the few days he had been away, the trill captain wanted to get himself fully up-to-date on everything that was going on. They had finally received the software updates for the navigation systems, something that they had been waiting for a number of months. As he glanced down through the reports he noticed a large number of other small updates had been made. They still hadn’t gotten around to enlarging his ready room though, typical!
He pushed himself off and rolled across from one desk to another on the wheely chair he had had installed a couple of missions ago. He had listed it as ‘a vital timesaving tool’, and some klutz behind an office in HQ had actually signed the form accepting the request. The sheer stupidity of some of the pen-pushers truly shocked him sometimes. As he was mid journey between the two desks, the chime sounded. -“It’s open.”
Grace stepped in through the door and raised one eyebrow in vulcan like fashion as she saw the tail end of his flight. - “I might have been wrong with that psychoanalysis sir. You seem to be showing child-like behaviour.” - “On this ship, I’d call it normal.” Grace seemed to consider this for a few seconds, and then she shrugged, smiling. - “I do have some bad news for you though sir.” - “Always depressing. What is it?” - “The lead we were following on that cardassian drew a blank. Although we got the file for the name, it would appear that the name was wrong.” - “Bugger, yes. I’m sure… didn’t I say something about his record having been destroyed. Sorry, I’m still not entirely myself.” Harrias smiled in what he hoped was a disarming way (he didn’t want to be relieved of command again.) “Did the file you got give you anything else to consider?” - “Not really. Missing in action.” - “Well at least it was checked out. Do you know what our ETA is?” - “About the same as at the end of the briefing, minus about an hour. At a guess.” Harrias rolled his eyes sarcastically. - “Okay, I walked into that one. I’m just happy to be here again ya know.”

Nick stood at his console, thinking over their current mission. He wished he knew more about any possible threats they may face. He might have only been a member of the Nevada's crew for a short amount of time, but already he felt responsable as the CTSO. The one in charge of the ship's safty, both internal and external. For now, he knew there was very little chance of danger, so he didn't bother charging up weapons (though he was ready to if need be).
His shift was almost over, and he wanted some time off. For some reason, he hadn't been feeling well, and standing up at his station for so long didn't make it any better. It was just a general not feeling good, rather than any specific symptoms.
He checked his station's readings, nothing new. He brought of schematics of the phaser systems, as an idea to increase their power had come to him, and he wanted to see if it were possible. Wouldn't want to ask the captain about something he hadn't any proof for, now would he?
The Ensign who was relieving him came and Nick gladly handed the duties over to him. Once the turbolift closed behind him, Nick told it to take him to near his quarters. He wanted to change into something...less confining. His uniform could sometimes feel too formal for offduty time. Once that was taken care of, he went to the cafeteria. He considered eating alone, but decided against it. He needed some company.
At the food slot, he ordered a simple meal of buttered garlic noodles and a green salad (with vinaigrette, not a heavy thick dressing). Feeling the way he did, he didn't want anything big and heavy. He glanced around the room, wondering if anyone he recognized was around. He saw Hannah and the Andorian...Frek was his name. Hoping he wasn't intruding, as Frek seemed to be in the middle of telling some story. He walked up: "Is it all right if I sit here?"

.: The Captain's Return :.
The return of Captain Harrias Jira was a joyful one for all concerned, especially for the Captain. When Zhuk first heard that he would be returning to assume full command, he was elated and relieved knowing he wasn't quite ready to remain in the command chair.
Zhuk met Harrias just inside the docking bay entrance/exit of the Nevada. After congratulating him on his return, they made small talk of things that Harrias had missed out on while he was gone. Together they made their way to the bridge and then the Ready Room for the briefing.
.: New Mission :.
Everyone referred to their new mission as the 'Treasure Hunt'. It was curious to Zhuk that Starfleet was interested in following up on what might be mythical leads to Betazoid artefacts. Of course he could understand the importance of the find and possible return of these artefacts not only to the Betazoids, but to all of Starfleet as well.
With Theel'zhiin perched on his shoulder, Zhuk had just stepped off the turbolift and onto the bridge after a short break and a quick meal in Ten Forward. Zhuk noted that their new CTSO officer, Nick Grayson, didn't seem to be feeling too well. His skin looked a little flushed for a human as he had sidestepped Zhuk to enter the turbolift without so much as a word of 'hello'.
Zhuk continued directly to the Ready Room wondering where most of the senior staff was as they weren't posted on the bridge. As Zhuk approached the door, it was not locked for privacy and opened up as it noted his presence. Both Grace and Harrias looked over into his direction.
Harrias had a happy attitude about him while Grace had a look of concern. Theel'zhiin let out a warm cooing sound as he mentally connected with Grace as his way of saying 'hello' and that he was happy to see her. He went ahead and made the short flight it took him to land on her shoulders in order to give her a friendly nuzzle on her cheek.
"Captain, Grace, any news?" Zhuk inquired for the latest information.

As Frek was about to start his story, Nick interrupted them.
"Is it all right if I sit here?" he asked. Hannah nodded.
“You’ve just come at the right time, Frek was about to tell me about a treasure hunt he went on when he was 16/17 years old and how he managed to break his friend’s leg,” Hannah said with excitement taking another bite out of this hot cat. She was really enjoying it.
“It was an accident,” Frek protested.
Nick pulled up a chair placed his tray down on the table. Hannah glanced at what Nick had ordered.
“You should try one of these,” Hannah said pointing to her own half eaten hot cat and Frek plate, “It’s a hot cat it’s really nice.”
Nick looked at the food and turned away quickly, “I don’t think my stomach could take that, maybe another time.”
Hannah stared up at Nick and for the first time noticed how white he was.
“Are you alight?” she asked concerned, “Maybe you should go to sickbay?”
