It had been several hours since Steve had shown been out of his quarters. He was putting the final touches to what is his new home. Arya was out and about making sure that there werent any immediate problems with the crew, which left him alone for a while. Today marked the next chapter in Steve's life and career. At some point today he expected to be contacted about the Olympia's first mission. If he was right in thinking, it wouldnt be anything too big, just a small short mission...something perfect and ideal for their shakedown cruise.
Steve went and laid down on his bed, and closed his eyes. Just as he was drifting off, the console on his desk beeped. Steve rolled his eyes and got up. "Great timing." He said to himself, his voice laced with sarcasm. As he approached his desk, he saw it was a message from Starfleet Command. That changed his mood a little, as he was now more interested in it. Steve opened the message and read over it. It was their orders for their first mission. "Finally." Steve muttered under his breath. When he had finished reading, he turned the screen off and sat down. "Time to get to work, and get the show on the road." He added, before tapping the comm panel on his desk.
=/\= Captain to the Senior Staff. Report to the briefing room in 30 minutes. Repeat, report to the briefing room in 30 minutes. Smith out. =/\=
With the announcement made, Steve finished up with what he was doing and headed out of his quarters for the bridge.

David had spent most of the last two day's ensuring that everything was ready for the Olympia's up-coming departure ... Captain Smith, and the ship, were still missing a number of staff. A Chief Engineer, Chief Science Officer, and notably, an Executive Officer ... Tan was assuming that their first mission would be a simple shakedown cruise, nothing requiring Science, but adequate for the Junior Engineering staff to handle .. At least, he hoped so ... As Chief Operations Officer, he'd been down to Engineering to ensure the department, and it's staff were ready, making sure they knew to contact him if any issues developed. David hadn't spoken to the Captain at length yet, so as COO he wanted to make sure Steven didn't have anything more than the mission itself to worry about .. Thus, the double checks .. =^= Captain to all Senior Staff .. Report to the Briefing Room in thirty minutes .. Repeat .. Report to the Briefing Room in thirty minutes .. Smith out =^= He listened to the announcement .. 'OK .. The Captain has received word' he thought to himself .. David had thirty minutes before he was expected to be in the meeting .. Captain Smith would want to be told the ship was ready for departure, so he spent twenty of those minutes contacting each department in turn, to check yet again .. ~~~~~~~~~~ Stepping into the Briefing Room, he saw he was first to arrive .. He took a seat and placed the PADD he was carrying down in front of him and waited, slightly nervously, for the rest of the staff, and Captain Smith, to arrive .......... < tag : Senior Staff / Captain Smith > OOC : Yippee ... For once in her life Rio awoke feeling able to move almost all of her muscles without flinching. It almost made her visit to sickbay seem worthwhile, but was not quite persuasive enough to warrant any future visits for the time being. She had not slept well, but that was not a strange occurrence. At least she felt rested. As yet Steven had given no signs of calling together the crew, and Rio wanted to avoid the doctor as much as possible at the moment: she was itching to try out another of McLean’s programs. She clambered out of bed and went straight from the bathroom into a combat uniform.
As appealing as the holodeck still was the marine first headed down to her office, which was conveniently located only one deck beneath her quarters. It was little more than six feet wide, and if she really stretched her arms out she could touch both sides with her fingertips. It reminded her of the last office, and the last one. Apparently they didn’t think marines got round to much paperwork. She stepped through the door into the dark room and immediately sensed the other person in the room. It was already too late to draw her weapon, but there was only one person who knew her office code.
“Black.” She stated with mild surprise as the door slid shut behind her. In the darkness that ensued she picked up the sound of his heavy breathing.
“Lights.” He ordered gruffly. The snapped on, and an instinctual recoil occurred in the captain. The man that had been her second was slouched in her seat, fiddling aimlessly with a comm. badge in his hands. He was out of uniform, and in its place wore a pair of dark blue jeans and a black leather jacket. His face was set into that familiar self-confident mask that gave nothing away. Rio did not particularly mind his presence, but thought he might be gentlemanly enough to give up her chair. She quickly dismissed that assumption and instead took a couple of steps sideways to prop up against the wall.
“What are you doing here?” She asked casually, hoping she sounded as though it was just polite conversation. She expected a coy reply, but was pleasantly surprised.
“Believe it or not they decided we work well together.” He informed her, tapping the comm. badge on the desktop. “Your stuck with me for another term.” He added, lacing the words with contempt. Rio had guessed as much, but had needed to hear it from him. Needless to say she should have checked the compliment earlier, but administration had never really been her department. The two officers stared at one another for a moment, neither moving. The tension that filled the box-like room was exponential, running between them as taught as a tight rope. In the end Rio gave him a respectable smile and chucked a tiny chip at him.
“Holodeck three, five minutes.” She ordered, and promptly exited the room.
Irritatingly enough he beat her there, fully dressed in combat attire. He held the chip up between two of his fingers and fixed his smarmy smile. Rio would not be baited and remained silent while he loaded the program. She was looking forward to ‘Death by Incarceration’, if looking forward to such a thing was possible…
Inside the planet was blackened and dead. Lava spilled lavishly from its innards and tumbled down the mountain crevices. Ash filled the air, chocking their eyes and clogging their lungs. They had to stay on the move. Somewhere on this planet there was a stranded ambassador, who could be roasted at any moment. The ever-present sound of volcanic eruptions drove the officers forward. Thankfully there wasn’t time to think about where the next step would take them. They couldn’t see the ground, for which Rio was thoroughly grateful. For now it seemed quite solid, but she hated to think anymore about the topic.
=/\= Captain to the Senior Staff. Report to the briefing room in 30 minutes. Repeat, report to the briefing room in 30 minutes. Smith out. =/\= The Captains voice cut through the ash storm like pleasant birdsong. Despite the circumstances, it was good to hear his voice again. Counting him and Black, that was two faces she would be able to recognise, not to mention Arya…maybe this wouldn’t be so bad after all. Then again, he had just placed a time limit on her morning’s recreation. Half an hour to get herself off of this rock…
With what she thought were only seconds to spare the marine raced up to the briefing room at high speed, knocking into several people on her way. She decided it was excusable, as she was hardly likely to bump into anybody that she knew. Drawing close to the door she skidded back to a walk, attempting to smooth out the creases in her uniform. She had only had time to change her top and dunk her head into the sink. Most of the ash had washed off, but there were still some smudges around the edge. Her hair was wet and sopping, and she had combed it back so that it spiked upwards from the top of her head. There was also a rough scorch-mark on the bottom of her right trouser leg that was far from inconspicuous.
So she looked downright downhearted when she flew into the room and found it occupied by no less than two people. Stopped short she looked between Steven and David as if to make sure they hadn’t hidden the other officers under the table. When they looked back puzzled, she gave up on the idea.
“Good morning Captain.” Steven said warmly, barely able to contain a smile. Rio looked most displeasured.
“Do you mean to say I rushed all the way here and I’m not even late?” She asked, plonking herself down in a seat and looking on sulkily. She shot David a nasty glare as he too began to smile. To his credit he contained it very well. Looking down at her own hands as they lay on the tabletop Rio noticed her smeared black wrists and bleeding knuckles. Maybe she would get lucky and neither of them would mention it. Maybe she would get really lucky and the Chief Medical Officer would fail to notice that one of the staff members that only yesterday had lost at least a pint of blood was currently expelling more of it over the briefing room table.
Steven decided there was a fat chance of that. “You found the holodeck then?” He asked conversationally.

Kiral woke up bright and early, opting to take her breakfast in Ten Forward. Along with a highly unhealthy breakfast of bacon, sausage, and a cheese omelet that was more cheese than omelet, she had at least three cans of Goombay Punch. In her opinion, it tasted much better than coffee and woke her up more. When she deemed the caffeine levels to be enough to get her through the day, she checked in on Sickbay.
Sickbay was still relatively empty, but there were a few nurses that hadn't been there the day before. She was relieved to find that there were no patients this time. She had half expected to see that Marine woman back again. She sighed. They hadn't even been been given a mission, and already the crew was getting injured. Kiral introduced herself to the nurses, and started checking up on some medical records. A few minutes later, she heard her new captain's voice for the first time.
=/\= Captain to the Senior Staff. Report to the briefing room in 30 minutes. Repeat, report to the briefing room in 30 minutes. Smith out. =/\=
Mallen nodded to herself. Thirty minutes. She had plenty of time and nothing much to do. She took a turbolift back to her quarters and finally started to unpack.
Almost exactly 30 minutes after she had heard the announcement, Kiral walked into the briefing room. There was a man that she didn't know sitting at the table, and another man that she assumed was the captain. However, all other thoughts vanished as her eyes followed the trail of blood to Marine Captain Rio Jackson.
Kiral sighed and shook her head. The woman was bleeding again, and covered it... was that ash? So much for taking it easy. At least it wasn't the shoulder again. "We're going to be spending a lot of time together, aren't we?" She asked Jackson.

Tan had only been sat for a moment when the Captain stepped into the room. David stood automatically as Steven rounded the table, and sat as the Captain did.
"I'm glad you are first to arrive David .. I wanted to have a word before we set out." said the Captain, "This shakedown mission .. It shouldn't trouble us .. But while we're still short of key personnel .. Especially my First Officer .. You are going to have your work cut out for you .. I'll need you along with myself to keep a close eye on all departments .." he finished.
"Not a problem Sir .. I'm sure the Senior Staff will be able to handle a short mission." David said, "Has there been any word on the other head's yet ?"
"No ..." said Steven, an exasperated look crossing his face, "How are the main departments looking ?" he said, moving the conversation on.
David passed over the PADD containing brief, but accurate reports from several departments.
"Everything is ready Sir .. We can request departure whenever you are ready.. The last of the stores came aboard at zero four thirty this morning."
As they were talking, Captain Jackson came in, almost at a run, then stopped, scanning the room looking a little more than frustrated ...
"Good morning Captain." said Steven, seemingly amused at her annoyance.
"Do you mean ... I rushed all the way here and I'm not even late !" Rio said, slumping into her seat.
After a quiet moment, where David wondered who would risk speaking next, the Captain volunteered an observation.
"You found the Holo-deck then ?" he said, trying hard not to make the comment seem anymore sarcastic than it obviously was... Earning a glare from the Marine, who decided to share it with David, on the remote chance he was about to join the Captain in grinning ...
"Good workout Captain ?" Tan asked, seriously, he hoped.
"Yes .. I'd have MUCH preferred a longer routine but ...." she said pointedly glaring at the almost empty table .. It was then they noticed the Doctor at the door, looking Rio up and down ..
"We are going to be spending a lot of time together .. Aren't we !" Doctor Mallen stated, as she moved into the room and sat herself next to Tan ..
"Morning Captain ... David ..." she said, still looking at Rio.
"Doctor." acknowledged Steven and David in turn, before the Captain continued, "I can assume Medical is up and running can I ?" he said.
David watched Rio, as she visibly relaxed herself after the Holo-deck exertions. He listened silently to Kiral's report as he waited for the others to arrive ..........

Arya heard the announcement and knew there was no rush. She was never late to anything. Nua chirped making Arya smile a little. "Yes, yes, I know. You wish to accompany me. Not this time Nua. They won't want you up there on the bridge. You know that. Besides if you come with me, who will stay here in case someone comes for me?" she responded trying to find some excuse for her friend to stay behind. Her excuse worked for now.
She sat at her desk still reading over the crew's records trying to get to know a little of them before she actually met any she didn't know. She considered it a little light reading before the briefing.
Right in the middle of one of the crew records she heard a voice. =^=I am as ready as I'm going to be. Crew evaluations will begin soon enough. See you at the briefing.=^= She said to the person shew as talking with.
Arya made her way into the briefing room, noticing who was there already. She took her seat and took out two padds. One was for notes, and the other was just in case she wanted to say something to Steve.
"Good day to all," she greeted those around her ready for the briefing to begin.

He had never been late for anything in his life ... until now. Anton hustled off the shuttle with his duffel on his back and started for his quarters at a dead run. He had been expected two days earlier but his father had wanted a word with him and his father was rarely denied whatever he wished. Starfleet had sent a shuttle for him and orders to accompany his father to Coran station where the elder Anton hoped to win higher bidding rights for Earth in the Federation's upcoming fiscal year. Of course, the elder Braga had little to say to his son aside from how happy he was that Anton had decided to become and officer after all. He was still hoping against hope that Anton would become a politician which was far from likely. They had argued ... as always ... and Senior had made damn sure that his son's departure had been delayed seemingly out of spite. Now, here he was running for his career ...
'Daddy would be so proud,' Anton thought as he thudded into his rather small quarters.
=^= Captain to all Senior Staff .. Report to the Briefing Room in thirty minutes .. Repeat .. Report to the Briefing Room in thirty minutes .. Smith out =^=
He had thought to throw his bag down before bolting to the captain's office, now he realized he probably wasn't going to lose his place after all. He breathed a sigh of relief and took a moment to compose himself. It was easier said than done.
After changing into a crisp new uniform and settling his image at least a little bit, Anton started out for the briefing room at a brisk pace. Unfortunately, what he thought was the briefing room and what was the medical kiosk happened to be the same thing. He had studied the ship's configuration for days and it's engines for months ... but, thanks to his ever loving father, he hadn't slept in nearly two days and his memory was a black hole from which nothing came to mind. He walked back up the main corridor and considered. He wasn't late yet and he knew where to go and he would be damned if he would call for help ... he was a marine, damnit! All he had to do was force his brain to work. He concentrated and started walking. Ten minutes later he strolled into the briefing room with minutes to spare and nodded to all senior staff and a pleasant expression on his face he turned to the captain.
"3rd Lieutenant Braga, reporting in, sir," he said plainly standing at attention.
"Welcome, lieutenant, please be seated," the captain replied with a wave of his hand.
Anton did so calmly and suddenly realized he was the last to arrive. He fought the intense urge to smile ... and just barely managed to keep it to himself. He wasn't late, he wasn't going to pass out from exhaustion and frustration, and he certainly wasn't going to let this opportunity pass him by ... he was a marine, damnit!

David and the Captain were finishing off Tan's reports of ships readiness while the other Officers spoke quietly among themselves. The door opened and a young Marine entered ..
"Third Lieutenant Braga .. Reporting in .. Sir." said the young man, standing rigid at attention.
"Welcome .. Lieutenant .. Please be seated." said Steven, waving toward the vacant seat then looking back at the remainder of the report.
David had noticed the look Rio had given the Lieutenant as he introduced himself and sat down .. If he had to put a word to it, he'd have said she was 'proud' of how the fellow Marine had deported himself. She nodded, almost imperceptibly to herself and went back to talking to Arya.
The Captain placed the PADD down on the table in front of him then stood ... The room automatically quietened within a second or two ... Steven coughed to clear his throat ...
"OK .. Thankyou for the report David." he said to Tan, before facing his Senior Staff for the first time ...
"Welcome everyone .. To the USS Olympia ...."
Steven began his briefing ..........

After those first 6 words, Steve had the attention of the entire room. "A couple of you I already know and have served with previously." He began, and nodded to Rio and then to Arya and smiled. "As for the rest of you....this will be a new experience for you. New ship, new crew...give it some time, and we'll show what we can do." Steve looked around the room and saw all eager eyes still on him. Even though he hadn't actually done anything yet, it still felt good to be holding a briefing on his own ship again.
He got up and stood behind his chair, as was his way when he held briefings. "There will be time for proper introductions between yourselves later, but for now, lets cut to the chase." Steve leant forward and tapped his PADD, and began to pace slowly around the room. "Our first mission, being a shakedown cruise, is quite a straight-forward one. We are to transport a Vulcan ambassador, Trevak, to Vulcan. He is urgently needed there, and its would be quicker for us to take him then for him to try and find passage there himself."
By this point, Steve had gone full-circle around the room and was back at his chair. He put his arms on the head rest and waited a few moments for what he had just said to sink in. "The Ambassador will be aboard within the hour. From then on, it's plain sailing." As soon as he said those words, Steve realised he shouldn't say things like that in case he cursed the ship. 'Nothing is going to go wrong' He told himself.
"For now," He addressed the room again. "Any questions?"

David looked round the room .. Both Arya Smith, and the Marine Captain, Rio Jackson, seemed to be waiting for one of the newer Officers to speak .. As Chief Operations Officer, it was his job to oversee the day to day running of the various departments, reporting to the Executive Officer, or the Captain himself .. He thought it best to break the silence, as no-one else looked as if they were about to .. He addressed the others round the table before turning to the Captain ..
"David Tan .. I'm Chief Operations Officer." he said, smiling as the other's nodded their acceptance of his presence, then he turned to Captain Smith, "Sir .. I assume as we are leaving Space-dock with .... With several 'key' Officers still to report .. The trip to Vulcan is a simple run to give the Olympia some space-time."
"Aptly put .. But yes .. The Ambassador 'is' needed urgently on Vulcan .. We are the easiest and fastest way to get him there .. I haven't been informed as to the nature of his trip home ....." said the Captain, picking up Tan's PADD, "Going off David's report .." he continued, addressing the rest of the room now, "We are ready to leave the moment the Ambassador comes on-board .. Engineering is currently without a Chief .. Thus the presence of Lieutenant Potter .. Mr Potter .. Please ensure Mr Tan is appraised of your departments status on a regular basis."
"Aye Sir." said Potter, nodding to Tan.
"OK ..." said Steven, happy to have the first question out of the way, "Any more questions ?" he asked, looking at each of his staff in turn ..........

When the briefing was complete Rio made her way back onto the bridge in the company of the Andorian tactical and security officer with whom she wanted to co-ordinate the arrangements for the arrival of the ambassador. According to the station docking timetable he was due to come on board in seventeen minutes, and knowing how Vulcan’s were she expected him to be exactly on time. While she had been up in the briefing room with the rest of the senior staff, she had assigned Sergeant Black the task of rounding up the rest of her marine team and checking them out. Although she and her second had always had a rocky relationship, but at least she knew him. There were another eight team members on this ship who she had never met before, and had no idea if she could put her trust in. Still, at least Black would help her bring them into line. She thought there was probably no one better to frighten them on their first day.
He had them assembled in Cargo Bay One, and was in the middle of assigning their phasers when Rio arrived. Jason nodded to her once, before calling the marines to attention and joining the line himself.
“Right guys. I’m Captain Jackson, and I expect you to do as you are told while serving under me on the Olympia. You will call me Rio, or Jackson…We don’t have much time for introductions right now, the Vulcan ambassador will be boarding directly and I want it to go without a hitch.” She gave her short lecture which was a lot less formal than she usual gave on the maiden voyage. She knew she would make it up to them later on.
“You.” She continued, pointing at the man who was on the far left of the line. “Name?”
The soldier, who must have been no more than eighteen or nineteen muttered at her. “Charleston.”
Rio nodded. “Right you, bring your friend and come with me.” She ordered him, pointing at yet another unfamiliar face standing next to him. “Take the rest of them for a holodeck run.” She added as she swept through the doorway. The two officers trailed behind her. She didn’t bother to speak to them: they were there to do a job.
The airlock was located on deck three on the other side of the transporter rooms. Apparently the Ambassador preferred to walk onto the ship rather than transport the whole fifty metres from the starbase to the ship. Rio marched along the corridor with her long legs striding out ahead of the others. She was quite impressed with them so far. They kept up with her well, walking in good step, and had clean, crisp-pressed uniforms. At least they would make a good first impression. The flanked the Olympia side of the airlock, having three whole minutes to spare. When the ambassador arrived, Rio was given a curt nod by the Starbase security officers as they halted on their side of the passageway. Taking that as her signal to assume control of the situation she stood to attention, and raised her arm in salute as the Vulcan entered, accompanied by two others.
“Marine Captain Jackson, Sir.” She said curtly, still standing straight as an arrow.
“Captain.” He replied softly, speaking in almost a drawl. “I hope it is not intrusive on your Captain’s hospitality, but I have arranged to bring two aides along with me for the journey.” He mentioned, casting his hand behind him at two Vulcans who were slightly shorter than he. Rio’s expression did not falter, but her mind was racing. That’s we he didn’t want to use the transporter then, because we thought there would only be one of him…
Colonel Samuels would call her suspicious. Captain Smith would probably do similar. But she didn’t like surprises. Careful to hide her reaction from the Vulcan she smiled. “Captain Smith asked to speak with you as soon as you were aboard. If you follow me you can ask him yourself.”
She lead the way across to the turbolift and escorted the Ambassador right to the ready room itself. She instructed her men to remain in the turbolift with the other two, insistent that only Diplomatic personnel themselves should be allowed on the bridge. Checking in quickly with Lieutenant Halthor to make sure that he would be taken care of from there she returned to the ‘lift, ready to show his ‘aides’ to the temporary quarters. She had already taken a disliking to them. Not only were they rather silent and sombre looking, but as far as she was concerned they had no business being there. She always thought there was something about Vulcans that made them look as though they were frowning. That, couple with their inability to exude emotions made Rio look at them as entirely unfriendly. She herself had often been accused of being incapable of feeling emotion, but claimed that was different in many ways. She also frowned a lot, but that was because she chose to, not because her eyebrows were too big.
When they reached the allocated quarters Rio gave them her usual unenthusiastic spiel. “The ambassador will be along as soon as he is finished. Security will notify you of any areas off limits to you. For now please remain on this deck. There is a diplomatic lounge located at the end of the corridor which has been prepared for your time here. Have a nice trip.” She watched as the two of them disappeared inside the ambassadors quarters, vowing to herself that she would be keeping a close eye on them.

Tan left the meeting via the corridor with Captain Smith, wondering where Steven was heading, but the Captain answered his question before he could ask ..
"There are one or two things I need to see to David .. Are you heading back onto the Bridge ?"
"Yes Sir .. Captain Jackson was going to meet the Ambassador on his arrival .. He should be here about now .. I just want to double-check the arrangements." Tan said, a little self-consciously.
"OK .. I will meet with the Ambassador shortly myself .. Keep me appraised if any issues arise." with that, Steven headed down the corridor toward the turbo-lift .. David turned and re-entered the ready room, then the Bridge itself ..
He headed over to the duty Security Officer ..
"Has the Vulcan Ambassador arrived yet Ensign ?" he asked.
"Yes Sir .. We've had to allocate temporary quarters for his Aides .. We were un ....... "
"Aides ?" Tan interrupted.
"Aye Sir." the Ensign continued, "The Ambassador brought two aides with him .. We will have them moved closer to the Ambassador once we are underway."
Tan almost forgot to answer as he mulled over the information ...
"Thankyou Ensign .. Keep me informed."
He sat down in the Captain's chair, he was trying to decide whether to speak to Steven about the aides, but would talk to Rio, once she was free of the Ambassador .. He would get her thought's on the situation, if indeed there was a possible situation, then speak to Captain Smith ..........

Anton was a little hesitant to impose on the captain so he remained silent during the briefing, he also had no questions, which made keeping quiet even easier. He'd made the trip to Vulcan several times, twice with his father and three times on training missions and that was all he needed to know. After the briefing he made his way to the bridge to begin his shift. The petty officer in the nav position looked up at him as he approached her chair and jumped slightly.
"Oh, forgive me, sir," the young petty officer replied with a hint of a smile, "I wasn't expecting you to be there. I suspect you'll be wanting your seat?"
"Aye, thank you petty officer ... "
"Grant, Petty Officer Anna Grant," the young lady replied offering him her hand in the most professional manner humanly possible.
"Anton Braga," he replied lightly taking her hand and trying desperately not to blush, it was difficult.
After a moment of frivolity they switched places and Anton took his place in the nav chair. He sighed to himself as he started charting their expected path. There was a suspicious nebula in their way that Anton usually charted around; however, this was usually because it's much easier to lose ones way in a shuttle as opposed to a state of the art starship. He would have to take it up with the Captain or second officer once they arrived on the bridge. In the meantime, he would chart several courses based on the best time, fewest course corrections and nearest starbases. He was unsure if any such courses would be ultimately necessary, but having them in the system ahead of time was much more convient than having to make a correction by the seat of his pants and he was a firm believer in the mantra, "It's better to be safe than sorry."
As the COO entered and chatted with the security officer on duty, Anton finished tweaking his last course addition. When the young officer made his way around to the command chair, Anton spun around to address him.
"Sir, I have the most common courses to Vulcan set in, are you aware of any particulars I should be prepared for?" he asked respectfully.

After Steve left Mr Tan, he headed back to his quarters very briefly just to take a quick breather. Upon getting there, he realised to would be have quicker to have gone to his Ready Room, but now he was here, it didnt seem like such a bad thing.....besides, all the walking to good for him.
Ordeing a cup of tea from the replicator, Steve took it an sat at his desk. He was about to start his first mission as CO of the Olympia without an Executive Officer. Although he has been a Captain before when he commanded the El Salvador, and had been the First officer of the Raven for a year, he still knew it was going to be a little hard this time.
Steve drank the tea in a few minutes. He put the cup away and stood to look out the viewing port, wondering if the Ambassador had arrived on board. He hadnt been alerted of it, so for all he knew, he wasnt here yet. Either way, he decided it was time to make his presence known on the bridge.
Taking a walk to the bridge was quite relaxing and it felt good. It also kept him fit and healthy and full of stamina.....something he was sure he was going to need when Arya gave birth to their child.
"Oh the joys of sleepless nights." He said to himself sarcastically. "I can't wait."
Arriving at the bridge, the doors opened and no-one seemed to notice him standing there, which suited him just fine. Steve hadn't actually been on the Olympia's bridge since he took command of her. He silently walked around the back of the bridge and reminisced how much it looked like the El Sal, seeing as that was a Prometheus class vessel as well, and all the thoughts of his time there came rushing to him.
'There's a time for that, and it isn't now.' He thought, prefering to think about past times another day. 'Let's just concentrate on THIS ship shall we?'
He moved away from the back of the bridge and approached the command chairs. He saw that David was sitting in the center seat and couldn't help but smile.
"Comfortable down there?" He asked, grinning. Before Tan could reply, Steve asked another question of him. "Has the Ambassador come aboard yet? Only I haven't been alerted of it if he has."

All thought's of whether to inform the Captain now, or later, as to development's, became moot, as David heard a voice above him ... "Comfortable down there ?" Tan looked round as the Captain spoke, he got up and waited as Steven took his seat. "Has the Ambassador come aboard yet .. Only I haven't been alerted of it if he has." the Captain finished as he sat. "He is aboard Sir .. Captain Jackson is with him as we speak .. But he was accompanied by two Aides that we were unaware were going to be here .. We are a little 'unsure' about them as we weren't given prior warning as to their presence." The Captain frowned ... "The Aides .. Where are they now ?" he asked, thinking, 'This is all I need, uninvited guests' .. "Temporary quarters .. But they 'insist' on being closer to the Ambassador." Steven was quiet for a moment ... Ambassadors, especially Vulcan ones, weren't prone to changing plans at the last minute ... 'Why this time' he wondered ... "Have housekeeping get a suite ready .. Move the Aides in there when it's done .. Also .. Have ....." Steven had to think for a second, " ..... Lieutenant Halthor contact Starbase Security and check up on just 'who' these two are .. Discreetly understand .. The last thing we need is some sort of incident when all we are supposed to be doing is taking the Ambassador home .. Let me know what he gets." "Aye Sir." said David, moving over to his station and relaying the Captain's orders to Vander ... As he finished, he received word that everything was ready for the Olympia's departure. Starbase Command wanted word from them as to exactly when they expected to leave ... "Captain .. Command has freed us to leave Space-dock .. The Dock-master wishes to know when we can begin departure procedures." Tan said. Steven looked at the view currently on the massive screen before him. The Observation Lounge was clearly visible, but soon that would change to a view of open space ... Unconsciously taking a deep breath, then sitting back in his seat, and with everyone on the Bridge silent. The Captain chose his next words .......... < tag : Captain > OK Steven .. Whenever you're ready

The office door shmmed open every time Rio got near it. She had been pacing for over half an hour, and continued to claim that it was just another of her marine ‘keep fit’ exercises. Of course there were other, more brain taxing methods of working her muscular-skeletal system, but this seemed the most fitting for the present occasion. Her tongue felt distinctly numb, and the marine realised she had been chewing on it for several minutes. She couldn’t quite put her finger on what was bothering her; she had a distinct feeling it had something to do with the Ambassador.
She had no special qualms with him being a Vulcan: he couldn’t really help that after all. But there was certainly something about them that made her uneasy. She herself was not one to outwardly display emotions, unless they were anger or contempt, but that was different. At least she knew she had them. It was unnerving not being able to read them. She had always thought of herself as quite intuitive. Vulcans had proved her wrong. That made her want to pace.
She finally gave up with an exasperated sigh and concluded it was because she was hungry. With a nod to nobody but herself she decided to head down to the mess and fill her grumbling stomach. Almost out the door the marine checked herself, and went quickly to look over the console camera that she had set up to monitor the activities of the Aides. As far as she could tell, they had not left their temporary quarters so far. Boring. She swept from the room and into the turbolift, sweeping out of it in much the same fashion, walking straight into the path of an officer crossing the other way.
“Wat –” She started to snap, but stopped herself abruptly as the man apologised.
“Sorry, I must have been too busy thinking about food to look where I was going…” He joked. Rio let the anger inside her fade away, like she had been taught to do.
“Don’t worry, it happens to me all the time…” she retorted, “You going to the mess then?” She added, suddenly realising what he had said.
He nodded. “David Tan, by the way…” He introduced himself as they walked side by side towards the dining room.
“Rio.” The woman replied simply, as they crossed through the doors. That seemed to mean something to David, because he barely reacted at all, just a small nod. The ordered their food at the counter and grabbed a table while it was prepared.
“Actually, I was hoping to see you at some point today” David began as he sipped his drink and replaced it on the coaster. Rio wanted to roll her eyes but restrained herself. She had been waiting for him to say something like that since he had already known her name.
“Why’s that then?” She asked, smiling as their food arrived. Without waiting for him to answer she began piling hefty forkfuls of spinach into her mouth. She had always thought Popeye had had the right idea. Tan watched her with slight amusement, picking at his meal more slowly.
“I am interested in your thoughts on our mystery guests. I noticed you didn’t look too pleased when they arrived…”
Rio gave a very mild shrug, chewing slowly on her salad. “I bont like surprives…” she mumbled through a mouthful of food. The message seemed to get through clearly enough.
“Who does?” He asked rhetorically. “Anyway, what plans have you got for them. If any?” He inquired in a very workmanlike manner. Rio wondered why anyone was interested in her opinion all of a sudden. People usually waited until she gave it anyway. She was usually quite forthcoming in that respect.
“I’m keeping a close eye on them, I intend to coordinate with Lieutenant Halthor at the next convenient moment and make sure he keeps a, discrete, guard on them.” She paused, shovelling more food into her mouth. “Uver van vat, I will just haf to keep an eye on them. I don’t see why they should cause any trouble. This is supposed to be a routine transport, but it is my job to be suspicious.”
“Naturally. Well. Its my job to know whats going on so…keep me posted?” He asked cautiously. Rio smiled. It was no definite answer.
“You done?” She asked, getting up from the table to indicate that she most certainly had finished. David followed suit, and the pair of them headed back to the turbolift, chatting about things other than work. They parted company when it arrived on the bridge, Tan heading to the operations console while Rio saluted the Captain and headed towards Halthor with a meaningful stride.

David opened his mouth to reply, but was interrupted by the captain. Anton turned back to his console and left the captain and the OPS manager to discuss things amongst themselves. He thought a bit more on his course settings and once Mr. Tan had left the bridge the marine turned back to the command chair to face the captain.
"Captain, permission to leave space dock?" he asked simply.
<Tag Captain>
Anton nodded and turned back to his console and began running the calculations for departure from this particular space dock and began plotting the initial course. The airlock was broken and the initial force from this decompression pushed them down and away from the space dock and out into the station's "anteroom". Anton sent the order to enable thrusters and began navigating below the active goings-on of the worker shuttles that were buzzing about the underside of the starbase. The Olympia came about and toward the huge blast door of the storage bay. Anton sent the ship's launch codes and looked up as the gargantuan door parted and the ship floated out into the black of space. They swiftly cleared the starbase's general space and were out in the open.
"Sir, we've cleared starbase Bellicose and a course for Vulcan is laid in, I recommend warp five to arrive at the planet in less than three days," Anton continued, turning back toward the command chair.

The Bridge was almost fully manned .. David looked up from his console, glancing at the still empty Executive Officers' seat, 'that will be filled soon enough' he thought, and then at the Captain, seemingly waiting quietly for the word to go .. An almost silent beep on his console drew his eyes back, a message was coming in from the Docking Master of the Starbase .. Tan listened, then replied ..
=^= Thank you Dock .. All Moorings clear =^= then turned to the Captain..
"Sir .. Space-dock has cleared us for departure."
"Thank you Opps .. Helm .. Take us out." Steven said firmly .. Anton turned to his console, then seconds later, the massive USS Olympia began to move .. Everyone on the Bridge was silent as the ship almost glided through the doors into open space ..
"Aft view on screen." said the Captain.
The Starbase, massive itself, slowly drifted away from them. The portal the Olimpia had just moments ago passed through, seemingly, tiny, in comparison to the base itself ...
"Forward view please." Steven said, and once again, the image changed to show the blackness of space.
David looked back down at his console. All departments had reported in as ready. He turned to the Captain once again..
"Sir .. All departments ready .. We are clear and free to navigate."
"Thank you David .. Mr Braga ?..." the Captain said, looking at his Navigation Officer.
"Sir .. We've cleared Starbase Bellicose and a course for Vulcan is laid in .. I recommend warp five to arrive at the planet in less than three days." Anton said, turning back toward the command chair and waiting for his next order ..........

"Sir, we've cleared starbase Bellicose and a course for Vulcan is laid in, I recommend warp five to arrive at the planet in less than three days." Anton continued, turning back toward the command chair.
"Warp 5 sounds good." Steve replied, looking forward to getting started. "Engage." He commanded.
Within moments, the Olympia was at warp and heading towards her destination at Vulcan. Being a Prometheus class vessel, she had a higher cruising speed than most other vessels, but right now, Warp 5 seemed a stable choice.
From his seat, Steve took a look around the bridge. Both commanded chairs either side of him were empty: the XO's chair, and the counsellor's chair. The Ecec's chair was understandably empty, because the Olympia did not have an XO yet....but the Counsellor's chair being empty....that struck Steve as being a little odd. Arya was never one to miss an occasion like this.
'I wonder where she is?' He thought, before tapping his combadge.
=/\= Captain Smith to the Counsellor. Please report to the bridge. =/\=

Arya headed to the bridge, noticing the captain wasn't around. She sat in her chair finding it very comfortable. She wondered if she would get used to this, and smiled. Arya thought about it and realized it was time to get underway for herself. She left the bridge and went down to her office.
Nua had been busy terrorizing her office again, which didn't make Arya happy. She picked up the mess and scolded the toddler aged companion for it as well. Once that was done Arya made a list of questions for evaluations and chuckled. She liked this part because she caused problems for others and she got to know the crew a little better.
=^=Commander Smith to Jackson. Please report to my office.=^= She said calling Rio down. She hoped the woman wasn't too busy.
"Alright see you in a few minutes," she said ending the conversation over the comm link. She hoped this wasn't the brushoff, and waited looking for ways to add to her question list for Rio.
A little bit later Rio entered her office as if knocking was too grand a jesture. Arya said nothing about it though.
"Welcome, I realize you have a lot to do, so I will get right down to business. This is just an evalutation. We all have our jobs to do, even I do. First question, what do you do in your off hours?" she said quickly not wanting to get on the woman's nerves. The captain suddenly interrupted them.
Arya took out a padd quickly. "Go ahead and let us continue. Let me worry about the captain," she said and chuckled. Dear, I am in the middle of a meeting. After all this is a new ship, some new crew members, and the old ones are out of date for evaluations. Yours will come soon enough, but I thought I would work my way up to you. After all that is your bridge, and I wouldn't want to tear you from it just yet. What would you like to have for dinner? She wrote on the padd and sent it to his. She was glad they kept those. She hadn't missed a beat on what the marine said.
"Don't you have any relationships?" She asked realizing this could be a bad question for this person.

Kiral left the briefing without any questions. It seemed like a fairly straightforward and simple mission. She had accompanied her father to Vulcan several times before, and it had always been uneventful. She had always liked Vulcan, though. Despite the hot temperatures and the harsh climate, the mountains and deserts were beautiful.
She didn’t expect to be very busy later in the mission, seeing as it was just a basic transportation run. That suited Mallen just fine, as an empty sickbay meant a healthy crew. In most cases, at least. However, since the ship had launched, she had had her hands full. Despite missing several key officers, the Olympia certainly had enough crewmen to keep the ship running. It seemed like all of them had opted to report to sickbay for a check-up at the same time. At least none of them are bleeding this time, she thought.
After finishing several examinations, Kiral grabbed the first nurse she saw. She was getting to know them quite well. In fact, she could even remember their names, which was a talent she had been born without. “Lorra, could you give everyone who comes in an appointment time so that they’re not loitering in our sickbay?”
“Just getting to that, Doctor,” the nurse said cheerfully. Kiral nodded her appreciation, only slightly surprised that Lorra, a Betazoid, had sensed her intentions. She was grateful to have a Betazoid on her staff. That could come in handy on several different levels.
A few minutes later, she found herself examining a very attractive and young security ensign. He talked the entire time, but Kiral didn’t really pay attention to anything he said until she learned that the Vulcan ambassador had arrived. Everyone seemed particularly interested in the two aides he had unexpectedly brought with him. It certainly was curious, especially for a Vulcan. She made a mental note to find out more later.

After getting his new orders from Star Fleet Academy, and getting finished with his tour of duty aboard the USS Hanson, academy ship in second fleet. The Hanson had docked with the with the academy facility while the new officers had boarded the academy station and waited for their new assignments aboard promising and well trained ships.
Lt. JG Halthor was suprised to get his new assignment and not long after, one of the commanders aboard the academy station had approached Lt. JG Halthor and had given him a box not to be opened until he was aboard the USS Olympia and he had been in his crew quarters. All Halthor could think about was just wondering, and speculating what was inside the box. It was coated with a fine material and the sealing had not been opened for a long time. It was brown in color and had two rectangular closings on the main fabric of the new object.
Lt. JG Halthor looked at the commander and said thanks for the moment and then proceeded towards the docking hatch of the USS Olympia, he then waited for the dock operation mechanic to give him clearance into the ship and then the door of the docking bay hatch opened with a new aroma yet undefined to halthor. It was a new smell and to him he took some time to analyze it, and came to the conclusion that this smell was actually new air. So halthor continued through the docking area and was now right in front of the USS Olympia docking hatch. The docking operator looked around and saw halthor approach the door and he gave halthor the ok and the door swung open.
Lt. JG Halthor walked through the doorway into the ship, he then took his first steps and stretched out. Then he brought his arms to rest and looked around the entrance of the ship and found the computer console. "Computer, please tell me the location of the captains briefing quarters and then tell me the locations of the bridge and the my quarters." The computer provided the necessary areas of the ship with the locations and so forth. Halthor then immediately proceeded to his quarter and dropped his equipment for his new assignment and took a quick shower along with getting a quick bite to eat in the food synthesizer.
But he was also was eager to open the box he had received from the commander on the academy station. Halthor reached for the box out of his bag and opened it to find two yellow pips on top of a purple fabric inside the box. He was indeed suprised of the outcome. He had been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. Halthor was excited that he had been promoted again due to some recent efforts on the academy ship. After opening the box and revealing the new rank, Halthor put on his new pips on his uniform and then used a heater press to clean press the uniform and put it on and walked out the door.
=/\= Captain to the Senior Staff. Report to the briefing room in 30 minutes. Repeat, report to the briefing room in 30 minutes. Smith out. =/\=
"Well looks like i have a briefing, the captain sure is looking forward to the new crew arrival." Lt. Halthor got the message and then got his assignment gear together and brought his universal PADD with him in case he was to get his new assignment and wanted to log the recent talks in the briefing room for further analysis in order to have everything in order. After getting far along in the ship Halthor proceeded to the nearest turbolift. "Bridge please" The turbolift brought Halthor to the main area where the briefing was to take place. Halthor then took a look around and looked at all the new furnishings of this fine vessel and then proceeded straight towards the briefing room.
Snapping to attention. "Lt. Vander Halthor reporting for duty sir. Chief Tactical and Security Officer trained in combat and all the main operations of war and defense. I am here to serve and perform well in the manner into which i have been given my new duty. Thank you for accepting me aboard and it is a privilege." At which time Halthor was given at ease. halthor then took a seat and listened in on the mission objectives explained by the ships captain.
"It looks to me like this mission will go quite well, merely its just going to be transporting a Vulcan ambassador. So this is of high importance that we get them to where they need to go safely, i will make sure i will perform my duties well and make sure your guest is brought to safety." Lt. Halthor then waited for the Captain to address any further issues and then halthor went to his seat in the bridge to get himself acquainted with all the necessary functions in order to perform tactically and strategically. After taking some time over-looking the systems Halthor was ready to begin.
--The rest was up to the captain and the capable crew and the story was to unfold before there very eyes.--

Anton was more than a little content with his post, but he was growing a bit sleepy. His shift was nearly over and he happened to look back and see the next Nav officer waiting in the wings. He considered shipping off early, considering that most of his job was just maintaining their current course. He then remembered that it was his first shift and being able to ship off early was a priviledge he had yet to earn. He stifled a yawn and continued his scanning.
They were coming upon the mysterious nebula. Anton turned to the OPS officer, still trying not to yawn.
"Ok, get some extra readings from that nebula, I've got a muted range from the nav com," he said, "Can you route them to my console?"
The OPS officer nodded and Anton started to recieve much more information from the nebula than he'd expected. He shook his head and blinked his eyes rapidly as the read outs flew down his console screen. Suddenly, he noticed something he hadn't been anticipating and he was shocked so much he reverted to his marine vocabulary.
"CONN, NAV contact, starboard! Unidentified cruiser closing fast, weapons up!" Anton shouted.
He immediately charted an alternate course, away from a collision course but not outside weapons range.

A few moments had passed since Steve had called for Arya. He was still seated in his chair, and was waiting for anything to happen. Just at that moment, the chair to his right began to vibrate. Curious as to what it may be, Steve leant forward to have a look. It was only then that he realised that he had left his padd there, and he had recieved a message.
'At least it didn't startle me and make me throw it across the room, like on the Raven' He thought, rolling his eyes.
He picked the padd up and looked at it. It was a message from Arya and it looked like a brush-off:
Dear, I am in the middle of a meeting. After all this is a new ship, some new crew members, and the old ones are out of date for evaluations. Yours will come soon enough, but I thought I would work my way up to you. After all that is your bridge, and I wouldn't want to tear you from it just yet. What would you like to have for dinner?
He did not like the idea that she refused to come up. He still remembered her 'game' surrounding her fake pregnancy on the Raven, so he was not in the mood for more games. He began to write a reply:
I can understand you are in a meeting, but you will come to the bridge after the current meeting. When I ask for you to come to the bridge, I expect you to comply, otherwise I would not ask. As for dinner....I'd say its a bit early in the day to think about such things.
Steve finished writing and sent the message back to Arya. Just as he was about to put the padd down, it vibrated again to signify another message.
'Damn, she's quick' He thought as he opened the message. Only this time it wasn't from Arya....it was from Starfleet Command. It concerned the Olympia's XO....the one they currently didn't have. Reading down, Steve found out who they had authorised him to assign to the position. He smiled to himself and tossed the padd onto the chair to his right and sat back.
His relaxation lasted all of a minute when suddenly the CNO shouted out:
"CONN, NAV contact, starboard! Unidentified cruiser closing fast, weapons up!"
"What the...?" Steve exclaimed sitting upright again. "Red Alert." He called, "Find out what it is, and keep us out of weapons range."

David was keeping an eye on how things were going .. This was their first outing on official business, and as Chief Operations Officer, he didn't want any hiccup's .. They were now at warp and settling in for the three day trip to Vulcan .. He looked round the Bridge, everyone was doing their job, and the Captain seemed happy with the mission so far. He smiled as he dropped a PADD on the seat next to him .. 'Must have had a bit of good news' Tan thought, but that thought evaporated as he heard Lieutenant Braga ... "CONN, NAV contact .. Starboard .. Unidentified cruiser closing fast .. Weapons up !" The Captains expression changed instantly ... "What the...?" he exclaimed, sitting upright again, "Red Alert .. Find out what it is .. and keep us out of weapons range." David scanned Braga's course corrections and saw they were more than adequate .. The Olympia was turning in a lazy arc to port, at the same time keeping distance between the two vessels. Steven looked at Tan .. "Any idea who that it is ?" he asked, nodding at the view-screen. "Could they be after the Ambassador maybe .. Those Aides .. I don't know .. I can't get 'any' reading's from the ship yet .. We would need to let her close the gap." David noticed Lieutenant Halthor nodding in agreement, "We are on the limit of our weapons .. But we have no idea as to their range !" he finished. "Mr Braga .. Make whatever corrections are needed to keep us apart .. We can ask all the questions we want later if need be .. But they must not close the gap." "Aye Sir." said Anton, inching the ship another degree to port. David had a thought .. "Sir .. If we put that ship directly astern .. We could launch say a class five probe in their path .. We may get some information before they over-run it !" "Yes .. Helm .." the Captain said, but Anton had heard the conversation and had been adjusting their course for the last few seconds .. "The ship is directly astern now Sir." he said. "OK David .. Launch the probe .. Send all telemetry to Lieutenant Halthors' station." "Yes Sir ... Probe away ..." They waited for the probe to come on-line ... It never happened ! "Sir .. They destroyed the probe .. Within five seconds of it's release." said Vander, puzzled. "Increase speed to Warp Seven !" Steven ordered instantly. David watched the readings before him intently .. "Sir .. They have increased speed .. They are now at Warp Eight !" .......... < tag : Senior Staff >
