It had been two days since the separate modules of the USS Vesuvius-A had been towed into Bellicose's space dock. With Jatan's assistance, Sonak had been allowed to walk towards the base and view the damage her ship had taken from the viewports on the space station.
Not long after the couple had arrived at the viewport, they were joined by Sonak's brother Nathan and his young son. Immediately, the boy and Sonak's own four sped off towards the playgrounds, where Sonak knew that a feline called Firestorm would keep an eye on them.
"I've been so worried," Nathan whispered, his eyes tear-stained as he held her close. He was surprised that his sister even allowed the hug, because usually she wouldn't have anything of it in public. "How're you holding up?"
"She's doing fine," Jatan replied, before she could reply herself, "and she's under orders not to experience too much emotional distress. So kindly don't ask her about what happened. We'll have a discussion on that later."
Nathan nodded, and released his sister. "I'm glad you're still with us though," he smiled through his tears, "you must know though that I've had some comfort." Quietly he explained what had happened in Admiral MC7's office. "He's such a sweet man," he smiled.
Sonak smiled softly in return; she'd known from the start that her brother had taken a keen interest in her ex-borg friend. "He is indeed," she agreed, remembering how he'd been here for her too when she had needed a friend, and didn't feel comfortable in confiding in Jatan. "Nathan, there is someone I want to introduce you to," she then said, accepting an arm of both men for support as they walked back to Minerva. "Last mission we were ordered to convey a former section admiral, but we were to take him back to the station. I would like you to meet him."
"Tettares Hepta," Nathan said, awe audible in his voice, "yes I wanted to meet him before you left the first time. Though, I wish to have a discussion with your science officer about a few things too. Things have been happening around here, and I'd like his opinion. Miss Kanz, I mean...Commander Kanz, might be interested as well. Could you set up a meeting with them for me?"
"No she can't," Jatan interjected, "but I can." He glared down at his wife. "No work until Caldwell says so my dear," he said, "and don't you dare do it before he says so. You promised me!"
Sonak looked down, avoiding the gaze of both her husband and her brother. She knew he was right, but she needed to be able to do something, to keep her mind off the events of the past mission. "I know," she whispered, "but I cannot do nothing. I need to keep busy to keep my mind off things."
"You have your appointments with Ensign Mira," Jatan retorted, "and you're having one in half an hour. I'll take Nathan to Hepta and then to a meeting with Kanz, Fox and Reman. You are going to see Mira."
Sonak nodded, and didn't say another word for the rest of their walk back to the ship.

Lara looked Pete straight in the eyes, "Don't worry, whatever happens, we'll be in it together..."
With all three modules undergoing repairs, L'Ola had borrowed one of the offices on the Starbase. She stood in the corner, deciding that sitting on the table swinging her legs wouldn't really create the right impression.
The doors opened and the five junior officers walked in, each looking down at the floor a little.
"Glad to see you're all on time. Now I think you know why you're here so I'll skip the rest of the intro and move straight to the point."
She looked at a PADD she had put on the table, and then directly at each officer in turn, "Crewman Peter Lorenzetti, Ensign Lara Qualtrough, Lieutenant Carrie Johnstone, Crewman Joshua Turner, and Lieutenant Samuel Joughin; you have all admitted to breaking onto a Federation vessel and remaining on that vessel without the consent of those in Command. You will each have this incident placed into your permanent records. And there should be very serious consequences."
Pausing for effect, L'Ola checked to see how many of them had registered the word 'should'.
"However, given you all aided the officers of the Vesuvius A when it was needed, you will only be required to work extra shifts for a week to aid with the repair work."
The friends looked at each other, obviously relieved but still too nervous to say anything.
L'Ola smiled, "There is one more thing though... I need a report from each of you detailing exactly how you managed to remain undetected for so long. Dismissed." She watched them leave the room, for the first time ever actually looking forward to reading a report.

Nephi woke up from his afternoon nap for the second day in a row. He had never slept during the day before, not since childhood. But the stress of the last mission was so draining that he had had to in order to regain his strength. He had done such extended efforts in Engineering before, but something about making Command decisions all the time drained him.
He walked over to the sink, and looked at himself in the mirror. The color that was mostly drained two days had returned to his face, and his blood-shot eyes were back to normal.
But then, he noticed something that startled him. He leaned his face in real close to the mirror, and looked at his hair. "My goodness...." he said in shock. "A gray hair! And I'm only 23!"
It must have been the stress of the last few missions. Being arrested, put on trial, coming close to spending life in prison for murder, then the following mission having to be in Command. That was enough to make anyone's hair gray. But still....
But then he remembered something. His house arrest. It had been for a week, but had that actually passed now? He had to check. "Computer, locate Commodore Sonak."
"Commodore Sonak is in her quarters."
He headed out of his own quarters, and towards hers. A few minutes later, there he was, pressing the key.
Jatan answered the door. "Commander Jacobson," he said in surprise. "What can I do for you?"
"I need to speak with Sonak," Nephi said simply.
He hesitated a moment, then said "Alright. But she's got a counseling appointment soon."
Jatan stepped aside, and Nephi stepped in. Sonak was seated on the couch. "What can I do for you, Commander?" she asked.
Nephi came right out with it. "On our last mission, you sentenced me to one week's house arrest. That week may have expired during the time none of us can remember, but without it, we are just barely passing that week up now. Shall we declare my punishment over? I'd really like to enjoy my shoreleave."

Sonak motioned for her chief engineer to sit down. On the one side it riled her that he dared come to ask about it, but on the other hand she admired his courage to do so. She remained silent for a long time, though she did notice that Nephi was very uncomfortable with the silence.
"You have conducted yourself quite well during this mission," she finally spoke up, "and you have not given me any cause to be dissatisfied with your performance. Not that I was in a position to do so most of the time, but Admiral Hepta too has informed me that he was pleased with your conduct." She paused again, and leaned back on the couch. She could just feel Jatan glare at her, for even taking up this responsebility when she wasn't cleared for duty, but she ignored it.
"Therefor, I see no reason for putting you under further house arrest," she continued after yet another long silence, "enjoy your shoreleave commander. And do please stay out of trouble?" She smiled ever so slightly at her chief engineer. "And when you see Commander Martens, send him to visit me please. Though now I must ask you to leave, I am expecting the counselor to knock on my door any minute."
<Nephi>
Just as Nephi left, the new security chief walked in. ~probably to report~ Sonak thought, and to her annoyance, Jatan blocked his entrance.
"I am terribly sorry, but Commodore Reckus is currently unable to see you," he told the young CTSO.
"Let him in Jatan," Sonak said, almost coldly, "I am certain he just wishes to introduce himself. Why do you not go and see if you can assist Reman, Fox and my brother with their research? I will not overtax myself, and I am sure the ensign will leave when the counselor arrives. I will send the ensign down to sickbay for his physical."
Jatan nodded, not wishing his wife to feel lonely, or cut off from her crew. "I will see you in sickbay in fifteen minutes," he told Jackson, "and I will have your hide if you bother her with anything remotely related to working. If you have reports, give them to Commander Kanz."
<Ron Jacson>
With that, Jatan stalked out of the family quarters.
"Greetings," Sonak welcomed him, "please, have a seat." She beckoned little Seliv jr to make way for the acting ensign, and the boy snuggled onto her lap, eying the newcomer curiously. "I am Sonak Reckus, and you have just met my bondmate Jatan. When I am off duty, you may call me by my name, but on duty I prefer to be called commodore or doctor. And please...do not call me sir."
<Ron Jacson>
After the young man had replied, suddenly the chime went off. "Come!" Sonak called, and the door swooshed open to reveal the counselor. "Ah, counselor Mira, please come in. Have you met Ensign Ron Jackson?"
<Mira Syal>>
"Before we begin this session, both of you please tell me how you are experiencing life aboard the Vesuvius so far." She shot a mock-glare at Mira. "And not a word about this to Jatan, this is not working, this is getting to know new crewmembers."

"Yes ma'am," he said smiling, "And thank you."
He left her quarters feeling a lot lighter. He even had a slight spring in his step. As he headed to his quarters to change into civilian clothes. But on the way, he ran across the racquet ball team, with Lieutenant Myers, the team Captain, at their head. They were all dressed for practice.
They stopped as they reached him. "Hey Nephi," she said.
"Hello Sandra," he said simply. "Sonak just cleared me from house arrest. I'm back on the team," he said, smiling.
"Excellent. We're just headed to practice down on the court. Meet us there as soon as you can," she said, and they continued on.
Nephi quickly went to his quarters, and changed in record time. Soon, he was on his way to the gym, gloves on and racquet in hand.
Within a few minutes, he was stepping onto the court. He stepped through the door, but then quickly had to jump to the side to avoid being hit by the ball, and Ensign Pierce.
As it was, he messed up Pierce's attempt to hit the ball. "Sorry about that, Gordon," he said.
"No problem, Nephi," he said, brushing it off. "Didn't want to mash the Second Officer into the wall," he said chuckling.
"Yeah, I might have put you on report," Nephi said winking. "Now, I'm ready to get back into the swing of things."
"Wanna go 2 player against me?" Sandra offered to him.
"Sure," Nephi said, making sure his gloves were snug. He went to his side of the court, and stood in a crouched stance, waiting for Sandra. She came alongside him, and served the ball.
She hit it hard to the side, and it bounced between the two walls a couple times before it came back over the line. Nephi went to the wall, and hit it right after it bounced off the wall again.
He sent it high, and it nearly fouled on the ceiling. Sandra had to move all the way to the back of the court, and jump as high as she could to hit it before it hit the back wall and bounced forward again, making it harder to hit.
It went low and to the side so Nephi had to rush forward to get it. He lunged for it, but missed, smacking into the wall as the ball bounced on the ground a second time, fouling.
Nephi rubbed his arm when it had made contact with the wall. "Guess I'm a bit out of practice."
"Yeah, not practicing for a week hurt your game, sir," Daggert commented. Jim was the one person that couldn't seemed to ignore Nephi's higher rank and just use his name. It was always Commander or sir.
"Jim, for the hundredth time, there's no rank on the court!" Nephi exclaimed.
"Sorry si...I mean Nephi."
"Let's just take it slow with you, Nephi," Sandra decided. "Ease you back in."

"I haven't decided yet, to be honest. There are so many ships to choose from."
"Go with a small one" Pete suggested "That's what I did first.
Carrie shook her head, "I would have hated that. Think about going to the Academy, that was good fun."
Lucy exaggerated feeling pressured, "So many options. Why are there so many options?"
"I think I might be moving too."
Everyone turned to look at Josh.
"Look, this might sound crazy, but I actually like working on the Vesuvius and think it might be fun to give it a go on another ship."
The group started chatting again. Well all but one of them did. Sam sat as he had been all evening. Quiet and thoughtful looking. Which was a little weird really, because he didn't generally spend that long thinking about anything.

OOC: I’m very sorry that I haven’t posted sooner, but I’ve been busy with work I haven’t had time to check up on here! I do apologise…
IC:
"Ah, Counsellor Mira, please come in. Have you met Ensign Ron Jackson?"
Syal nodded to Sonak and looked over at the young Ensign. “No, I don’t believe so…although if I have and don’t remember you, I do apologise.” She moved forwards and held out her hand in what she had been told was customary on Earth as a greeting.
"Before we begin this session, both of you please tell me how you are experiencing life aboard the Vesuvius so far." She shot a mock-glare at Mira.
Syal grinned slightly at the glare, but chose to ignore it otherwise. Out of the corner of her eye she noticed Jackson looking confused and resisted the temptation to grin again.
“Life seems to be fine at the moment, although that’s not much coming from a Bajoran…” She paused to see if anyone would comment. They didn’t. ~Damn correctness, I’ve probably shocked them now…~
She cleared her throat. “Anyway, yes, life is good, and I’ve read the reports on what happened during your mission, Commodore, as well as your medical profile. But I won’t say any more right now…” She cast a casual glance at the Ensign.
Changing the subject, Sonak lifted her head suddenly. "And not a word about this to Jatan, this is not working, this is getting to know new crewmembers."
Syal smiled. “Of course, there is such a thing as counsellor-patient confidentiality you know…speaking of which, when do you want to see me next for a…talk?”

The ball went zooming over the net, "I'm really out of practice at this."
"What made you take it up again?"
"Lucy's programme..." L'Ola bent over to pick up the ball she'd just missed, "Who'd have guessed I'd raise a sporty kid?"
Katia smiled, "I guess you can never be sure. Especially not in your case."
"Right, I got handed the finished product." She glanced at her friend to see if it was a good time to change the subject. It was going to happen some time. "So how's life as a working mum going?"
"Still not working full time. And Jason's being great, surprisingly so actually..." her voice trailed off, "You know, don't you?"
L'Ola nodded, "It's my job to know. Look, I might be out of line here but this could work out well for you."
Katia sighed, "I suppose, it just seems so final..."
With the help of some friends, she managed to get to the main shuttlebay in no time. "I think you forgot something."
James turned round, "Commander? What was that?"
"As far as I know, the Commodore's been off work and all official business has been going through me." L'Ola had an expressionless face. It was obvious she was trying not to say something, but it was impossible to tell what.
"Sorry, Commander. Lieutenant James Wilson requesting permission to transfer."
The first officer nodded, "Permission granted. Have fun on your next assignment, James."
"Will do, Sir. I'm looking forward to making a fresh start. I needed to get away from the past. At least it was all final. You know what I mean?"
"Yeah, I know. See you around"
He waved as he turned round to leave. L'Ola did the same. She thought about the situation, and how weird it was. The position had been the same for a long time, and nothing would have changed it. But now, with James being promoted to CTSO on another ship, it all seemed so final.
She wandered down the hallways until she found a bakery that Lucy had introduced her to. It was as good as she'd remembered. But something was missing. There was something incomplete in the back of her mind. An issue that was yet to be resolved...
"Kanz to Commander Martens."
=/\= Nick here =/\=
"Umm, are you up to much at the moment?"

"My door is always open counselor," Sonak said, mildly bemused. She had expected the counselor to insist on discussions, but this one seemed rather different than Claire Steenbergen and Daniel McVaye. "I admit, I have had my share of counselors ever since I was three years old, but you are the first who does not seem to demand to see me on a regular basis."
Mira Syal
She turned to Ron, but indicated that Mira was still very welcome to stay. To her amusement, two year old Shanna was finding the new CTSO interesting and the girl tried to climb onto his lap.
"How about you ensign Jackson? Getting along well with your staff and other senior officers? I understand you have been serving on Discordia (module 3) under Nephi Jacobson."
<Ron Jackson>
After a chatting a while with both new ensigns, Sonak got up slowly, and her children gathered around her. "It has been good getting to know you both. Please report to Commander Kanz for your duty schedules, and until I am cleared for duty, please direct any questions or concerns to her as she is my first officer."
<Mira Syal> <Ron Jackson>
Each child of the other twins held hands with one of the younger twins and they waited for their mother at the door. "I had planned to visit Admiral Hepta, and then go see my brother who is currently conducting a few experiments in science lab three. Ensign Jackson, please make sure that he is provided with guest security clearances. That he is my brother does not mean that he has access to the entire ship. His name is Doctor Nathan van Breughel."
She noted both ensigns' surprise. "Yes, he is human. I have human parents, my biological mother and father were killed on the USS Poseidon, when I was three years old. I was adopted by a human couple, and Nathan is my adoptive brother."
She led the two youths out of her quarters, then herded her four children to Hepta's VIP quarters. "Admiral, are you ready for lunch?" she querried.

=/\=Kanz to Commander Martens.=/\=
"Nick here," he replied looking up from his reading. Engineers buzzed around the bridge surrounding him effecting repairs.
=/\=Umm, are you up to much at the moment?=/\=
"Not really. Just catching up on some reading," he replied. He signed the padd of a passing repairman. "What'd you have in mind?"
=/\=How does Mott's on the promenade sound?=/\=
"Sounds fine with me. I'll see you down there in say half an hour?"
=/\=Alrighty see you there.=/\=
He checked his chronometer and sighed, ~32 hours~ he thought and sighed again. Standing up he stretched and walked into the turbolift.
Minutes later he waltzed into the newest establishment in the starbase, Motts. Simliar to DS9s Quarks only it lacked the Cardassian flare that Quarks did. Scores of people bustled about in the establishment, Tellarites, Bolians, Andorians etc. The Tandaran Commander stood momentarily at the doorway and wrung his hands.
Off in the distance he noted L'Ola waving him over, he took a deep breath and waded through the crowd to her.
OOC: gonna continue later.

-¦- Scene: USS Vesuvius-A, Hepta's Quarters -¦-
<snip from Sonak> She led the two youths out of her quarters, then herded her four children to Hepta's VIP quarters. "Admiral, are you ready for lunch?" she querried. </snip>
Hepta tucked the padd he was reading into one of his pockets and exited his quarters. He was a little surprised to see Sonak's children as well as the Commodore herself. How she managed to command a ship, entertain a husband and raise four children was beyond him.
They left the ship and headed to a restaurant on the starbase's promenade, where Sonak had reserved a table in a quiet corner. It was a relatively new establishment, so it was Hepta's first time there. In fact, much of the promenade had changed since he was last there, not counting his brief stop-over before joining the Vesuvius.
"Everything's always changing," he muttered under his breath, forgetting for a moment that he was sitting with a Vulcan, and that Vulcan had excellent ears.
"To the better, I hope," Sonak said with a smile. Hepta returned a deep frown.
"So do I, but that's never kept the universe from doing the opposite. However, let us speak of happier things. I understand you got orders for a new mission." If Sonak wondered how he knew, she didn't show it. "To investigate anomalies in a nebula a few days from here."
She nodded, still keeping a perfect Vulcan expression. "That's correct."
Hepta paused briefly, carefully choosing his words. "I was wondering if I could call upon your hospitality once more and stay aboard during this mission. I have little to do until the Bolians can send a new shipment to DMS. Admiral MC7 invited me to stay on Bellicose in the meantime, but I think I would... enjoy myself more on the Vesuvius."
<Sonak?>
OOC: Just wanted to establish an IC reason for Hepta to stay aboard for a while.

Jared had left the ship a little while before Kanz and Martens decided to meet up. He had received a message whilst in the science lab from the station's flight control office that there was a small craft waiting for him in one of the hangars for such. Jared made his excuses and left, after all this was his shoreleave as well. He checked the profile of the ship; it was a venture class which had been procured from a Starfleet scrap yard. Not many people were aware the extent to which Federation technology was actually obtainable, despite what the Federation maintained. Although it was of a Federation design, it did not carry such a registration; it was named Cassandra and carried the number 03. The name and number made sense to Jared, but he doubted it would have made as much sense to anyone else. Besides, number two was no longer around so the numerical order didn't exactly apply either.
Jared left a message for Kanz before he embarked that he would be away for a couple of days but would be back before the Vesuvius was repaired.
On entering the ship, he found a man waiting for him in the pilot's seat. 'Hello, Reman' the man said 'Charles, I didn't expect to see you around here' Jared replied 'What's all this about?' 'You'll see when we reach Phthasteon' the man identified as Charles replied 'if you don't guess first of course'
With that, the small craft left the docking hangar and sped away into the blackness.

"Being out there makes you feel useful again, does it not?" Sonak asked, guessing where the conversation was going, "who am I to say no? You have been a great help last mission, and you took good care of my ship when I was....incapacitated. It would be an honour to have you aboard once more."
She pulled her youngest son onto her lap and smiled ever so slightly at the old admiral. "Who knows, maybe I shall let you take over command for a little while. Commander Kanz is busy enough as it is, I doubt she will mind very much."
Her smile grew as she saw the old man's expression lighten up. "I assume that you had indeed fun being out there," she continued, "and I know it feels good to be useful. My father is about your age, and he still runs his practice on Earth, and I have no doubt he will do so until he is no longer able to. He is a physician, just like I am."
Her expression darkened. "Much to Jatan's annoyance at times," she confessed, "I am one who has a difficult time taking rest when it is required. He can tell you many stories about that." She took a bite of her sandwich and chewed quietly. "I have a ship to run, and children to raise. Though I admit that Jatan is making a lot of time to spend with the children too. Since we got married he has adopted my children, though I know he would love to have a child of his own blood."
Her face fell when she mentioned that. "And I lost our child," she whispered, hugging little Seliv closer, "look at me, spilling my heart out. You probably do not wish to hear this, and this is more for the counselor to listen to. I am sorry." She looked up. "I understand you have children? What was it like for you, being on a starship with a family?"

"Anyway, I'd better get back to the ship. They've actually got the modules mostly repaired now, so we have to get running our diagnostics."
Sam rolled his eyes, "Yeah, I hear the repair crews had great fun. I'll hopefully see you in passing after your shift's over, but I'm not promising anything."
Ed smiled, "Whatever's fine. We can get back to weekly tennis matches soon anyway. See you guys later."
He ran off, looking far too happy for Sam's liking. "What's up with him?"
Lucy sat back in her chair and stretched, "Oh, Carrie and Rilak broke up."
"WHAT?"
"Yeah, so he's happy again. On the other hand you're going to have to work with a very depressed Andorian."
There was a thud as Sam's head hit the table, "Great. Can this day get any worse?"
One of the waiters came past and took their empty cups away. Something suddenly dawned on Lucy, "How are you going to play Ed at tennis every week?"
"Yes, this day can get worse." Sam blushed and went very quiet, "Well I was talking to Commander Kanz..." Lucy looked down at the table "and it looks like I'm going to be transferring to the Vesuvius."
It felt like the entire room had gone silent, but it was just the soundless bubble that appeared to have surrounded them. After what seemed like an enternity Lucy spoke up, "I hope it all works out okay."

Having said goodbye to Josh in the morning, the remaining group of friends headed out to their favourite bar.
"Lucy, your turn to order."
"Okay, as long as no one wants anything stronger than coffee..."
Ed looked around at the others, "Yep, it's worth it to not have to get up. Orders to the betarite everyone."
Five minutes later the drinks were on the table. As per usual it was Carrie that made the toasts, "Here's to friends on new adventures."
The glasses and cups clinked together. For a second, Ed felt a sense of regret that he would be leaving them again. Missing his friends was the only thing he didn't like about his job. But this time round it was easier to go, as Sam would be leaving with him.
The conversation turned to holodeck programs from the past few years. Lucy stayed quiet, never having bothered to catch up on the topic.
Carrie looked worriedly at her young friend, and motioned her over to the side of the room, "Luce, are you okay?"
Lucy didn't even bother pretending, "No. I have no home. I have no job. I have no plans. Everyone else has something happening for them, why not me?"
"Don't worry about it, things will be fine again soon. You can stay on my sofa for as long as you want. And you will find something to do soon because you are a very determined person." Carrie smiled, knowing that she couldn't make everything right but that she might make a little difference in how easy it was to cope with.

"My door is always open counsellor. I admit, I have had my share of counsellors ever since I was three years old, but you are the first who does not seem to demand to see me on a regular basis."
Syal smiled. “I don’t believe in forcing a person to speak until they are fully ready. True healing can only begin when the subject is willing. It can be detrimental to the pagh, you know…”
She stood and watched as a small child attempted to climb on top of Ensign Jackson, trying not to laugh. A memory suddenly flashed into her mind. ~How close I could have been to a scene such as that…~ A small tear fell down her face, but she hastily wiped it away before the others could see.
She heard Sonak talk to the new Ensign, but it was very distant to her. "How about you ensign Jackson? Getting along well with your staff and other senior officers? I understand you have been serving on Discordia (module 3) under Nephi Jacobson."
After they spoke for a while, Sonak said "It has been good getting to know you both. Please report to Commander Kanz for your duty schedules, and until I am cleared for duty, please direct any questions or concerns to her as she is my first officer."
Syal nodded and rose. “I shall do, Commodore. I look forward to our next meeting.”
Sonak noted both ensigns' surprise. "Yes, he is human. I have human parents, my biological mother and father were killed on the USS Poseidon, when I was three years old. I was adopted by a human couple, and Nathan is my adoptive brother."
Syal had read this already in Sonak’s medical file, and yet it surprised her still. However, after all that she had been through, such a thing as adoptive parents seemed trivial. For some reason, she suddenly wanted to be back on Bajor.
~Now…to find Kanz…~

Jatan nodded, not wishing his wife to feel lonely, or cut off from her crew. "I will see you in sickbay in fifteen minutes," he told Jackson, "and I will have your hide if you bother her with anything remotely related to working. If you have reports, give them to Commander Kanz."
Ron nodded feeling very awkward among some of his new crew. He was more accustomed to a laid back enviroment. While serving on the starbase everyone was friendly with everyone else or so it seemed but to him Jatan seemed too official for his liking. But he shook it off and turned his attention to Sonak
"Thank you," Ron said wondering rather to add "sir," to his remark. Its very nice to finally meet you, your colleague there seems very protective of you. I suppose he didn't want me bothering you but I felt the need to meet you none the less as I am doing with the rest of the crew."

A Ferengi waiter waddled over, waddling seemed appropriate as the man was short, pudgy and walked with a gate. He handed the two officers a couple menus.
"Our thpecial ith the Icranian Duthter Thoup," He said with a very blatent lisp. He looked expectingly at Nick and L'Ola.
"Thank you thir, we'll let you know ath thoon ath we're ready to order," Nick said back with a smile. His mock lisp wasn't noticed by the waiter, or so he thought. The waiter nodded and walked back to the bar to input the order. L'Ola let out a laugh and gave Nick a slight shot to the arm.
"So what happened to you after you left?" She asked.
"Well lets see..." He briefly paused. " I made it to Tandar in time to find out that my daughter is going to need permanent care. The accident, which turned out to be her falling out of her friends bunkbed, caused her fracture 3 vertibrae in her neck. To a human this is a recoverable injury but to a Tandaran it's pretty much a death sentence."
"Thats horrible," L'Ola added taking a sip of her drink.
"It is. So after about three weeks we'd found a facility that is able to care for her. They were also doing research into how to repare this kind of injury. So there is still some hope."
"So how'd you end up out in the DMZ? Thats an awful long way from Tandar."
"Well one night I'd just gone to bed, like every night. I just pulled up the covers when I sensed a presence in my room. I rolled over to see three Cardassians standing next to my bed with disruptors pointed at me. That Zorril character stepped out of the shadows and told me that I was coming with her. Next thing I know I'm strapped to a table aboard her ship and being asked technical details on Vesuvius. And apparently 3 months later we went after Vesuvius and now I'm here."
Just as he finished his sentence the pudgy ferengi walked over with their food and placed it in front of them. And walked away just as quickly.
"That was odd," L'Ola commented. Nick just shrugged and reached for his soup. His spoon was just at the surface of the soup when a creature leapt out and grabbed the spoon and pulled it below the surface. Nick jumped back and dropped the spoon. Over at the bar the three Ferengi started laughing. The pudgy one waved and yelled.
"We have excelent hearing Ath!!"
L'Ola put down her fork and started laughing. The Ferengi over at the bar stuck out his tongue in sarcasm at the Tandaran. Nick grabbed his spoon in defiance and hovered it over the bowl. Immediatly the creature jumped out and grabbed the spoon. Just as quickly Nick grabbed it and shoved it in his mouth. It let out a quick squeek and he swallowed it. Nick lifted the bowl and quickly slurped the rest of it's contents down.
The now two Ferengi at the bar stopped laughing and stared at him in disbelief of what'd just happened. "Damn!" the pudgy one yelled and slammed his fist into the counter. He pulled out his wallet and grudginly handed some latinum to his friend. L'Ola looked at Nick in equal surprise not realising he had that kind of will. He winked at her and let out a belch for effect, all the while watching the Ferengi wince at his loss.
=/\= Vesuvius to Martens and Kanz. Prepare for departure.=/\= came an announcment over their combadges.
