This is just the outline post, please don't reply to anything here until about monday, when we'll start this mission. Tnx heaps!
Misson:
The Vesuvius is called back to her homeport Starbase Bellicose to pick up former Section Admiral Tettares Hepta. The admiral has been invited to visit Doroch Moon Station, and the Vesuvius is called upon to transport him there.
However, suddenly the crew wakes up and finds themselves near the Cardassian border. They don't remember how they got there, and they don't remember what their mission was. All they do remember is who they are, what they are and who they work for.
As Cardassian war cruisers are approaching the defenseless Somma class vessel, a race against the clock starts to find out what their objective was, before the Cardassians starts using the ship for target practice.
-----
I am proud to present former SA Tettares Hepta as our guest of honour during this mission.

Slowly, the USS Vesuvius-A eased into the docking port at Starbase Conqueror, after an uneventful flight home from Treewood. Commander Mark Harper turned around in the navigations seat, grinning broadly at commanding and first officers, who were sitting in the center seats. "Moorings engaged ma'am," he announced, "we're now fully docked."
"Thank you commander," Sonak answered, "shoreleave is granted until we receive Admiral Hepta aboard. There will be a banquet in his honour tomorrow evening at 1900 hours in the main mess hall."
She turned to Kanz. "If you would assign shore leave to the crew in three shifts, then I am going to visit Admiral MC7 and see if he has been contacted by Admiral Hepta." She got up and tugged at her jacket, smoothening the fabric as she did so. She went past her quarters to pick up the children, and past sickbay to tell her husband where she was going, then boarded the starbase.
The base interior always awed her, and she couldn't get enough of looking around. Even her own office was spaceous though she never spent much time there. "Admiral," she greeted, as she entered MC's office.
"Please, leave rank at the door," MC7 smiled as he motioned for her to enter, "among friends rank is unnecessary."
Sonak smiled back at him, motioning for her four children to enter the office. "I wanted them to meet you," she said, as she sat down, "besides they could use a change of surroundings every so often. But, to the point; have you heard from Section Admiral Hepta yet? I have a banquet arranged for him tomorrow evening, after which we shall depart Bellicose and get on our way to Dor'wI."
MC7 shook his head. "if he has arrived, I haven't heard of it yet, but he may very well be docking as we speak. Have a little patience, and enjoy your day off."
"I intend to," Sonak replied, "but I had wanted to welcome our esteemed guest aboard first. If he arrives, please let me know, would you?"
The ex-Borg admiral nodded. "But of course. And perhaps we could meet for breakfast tomorrow? I fear I have an awfully busy day today, so I won't have the time."
Sonak smiled again. "Naturally. How often do we get to dine together, especially now I have gotten married again? I will see you tomorrow morning then at 0800, shall we say at jan qa'vam? I have heard this Klingon restaurant serves excellent breakfasts, and vegetarian as well."
MC7 seemed to pale ever so slightly at the mention of the Klingon establisment, but forced himself to smile. "I will meet you then."
"Good day admiral," Sonak greeted, and motioned for her fair to follow her out of the office.
"Sonak to Kanz, please join me for lunch at the bar. Do please bring Lucy as well."

"And then you can go there, and you can go there, and then I can eventually get to go."
L'Ola shut up when she realised she was talking to herself again. Luckily, as she was assigning crewmembers, she wasn't working on the bridge and therefore no one could hear her babbling away.
"Computer, are there any crewmembers not on these lists?"
"All crewmembers are accounted for."
"Yay! Computer, send the lists to all department heads."
Not bothering to wait for confirmation, she knew that she would hear if it went wrong, L'Ola walked onto the Bridge. She told half the officers on duty that they could go on shore leave, and settled down into the command chair.
Ed and Jamie sat talking in Science Lab 2. Katia and Jason had been allowed to take shore leave together, leaving the department a little short on 'senior' officers. Not that it mattered, as there was very little to do until the pre-mission checks started.
The door opened and they both swung round automatically, knowing it was too late to pretend they'd been working. Sam Joughin walked in looking a little preoccupied.
"Hey, how's it going?" Ed asked, a big smile appearing on his face.
Sam snapped into reality for a second and managed to grin, "Alright thanks, same as usual really. You on shore leave yet?"
"Nope, for some crazy reason Commander Kanz decided to leave us to here by ourselves." He got exactly what he wanted, a reaction to the name he dropped. Deciding to be helpful he carried on talking, "But I did hear a rumour that our work experience girl is off already. You should just about be able to catch her before she leaves..."
His attention finally caught, Sam thanked his friend and legged it out the room.
Jamie looked confused for a moment, "What was that all about...? Oh yeah, I remember now. How could I forget?"
Ed just laughed in reply.
"It feels like a lifetime since I was here last, but it hardly feels like any time at all." Lucy looked round at the places she used to see on a daily basis.
"I know the feeling." For the first time since he'd heard that the Vesuvius was on it's way, he was relaxed. And happy. Very, very happy.
Looking round for something to do, Lucy spotted the entrance to the holosuites. "When do you have to get back to work?"
Sam pretended to think, "Umm, let's see, I think I booked the morning off."
"In that case, I'm gonna thrash you at tennis."
"Really? I've been practicing. You never know, I might win..."
Lucy laughed, "Don't listen to Carrie, she thinks everyone's good."
The two friends headed towards the holosuites. "Hey, speaking of Carrie, she started going out with Rilak."
"That guy you work with? You must have had something to do with that..."
L'Ola was still on the Bridge when the call from Sonak came through. "Sure, I'll meet up with her on my way. Kanz out." She replied.
Motioning for someone to take command for the few minutes that remained of the shift, she headed down to the docking ports and onto the Starbase.
"Computer, locate Lucy Kanz."
"Lucy Kanz is in the Old Bakery."
She paused for a moment. "Computer, locate Sam Joughin."
"Sam Joughin is in the Old Bakery."
She sighed before tapping her commbadge, "L'Ola Kanz to Lucy Kanz."
=/\= Hey, how can I help? =/\=
"Sonak just invited us out for lunch, and I realise you've already made other plans but..."
=/\= Don't worry, I'll be there in a minute =/\= There was silence for a second. =/\= Um, where is there? =/\=
L'Ola couldn't help smiling, there were times that Lucy's background really shone through, "That bar that you used to work at."
=/\= Cool, I'll see you there. Lucy out. =/\=
Happy to be able to fully relax, she made her way down to meet the others for lunch.

The three women enjoyed an exquisite lunch, after which they walked back to the Vesuvius. The children were starting to get tired, and Lucy and Sonak each carried one of the youngest twins. L'Ola ended up holding hands with the older twins. "I just remembered I have some things to attend to," Sonak announced to L'Ola, as they entered the bridge, "you have the bridge commander, I will be in my readyroom."
She walked straight into her readyroom, after having Jatan pick up the children. Accessing her messages, she saw a message from Admiral Hepta notifying her that he would be delayed a little due to engine problems on his transport. Sonak sighed, and sent an acknowledging response to the ship that would be delivering the former Section Admiral to Starbase Bellicose.
"Commodore Reckus to Lieutenant Jacobson and Lieutenant Commander Jared, report to my readyroom and I want you two in here yesterday!" She chuckled to herself, hoping she had frightened the two men sufficiently. The Vulcan commodore reached into the drawer of her desk and retrieved two black boxes. One of them held a black pip, the other a golden one.
She pretended to be busy reading a PADD, making sure her expression was completely unreadable, and she glanced sternly at the two young men as they entered her office. "You are late," she said coldly, as she got up from behind her desk. "Mr Jared, remove your black pip," she continued, all the while making sure her expression was blank, bordering on annoyed, "Mr Jacobson, please get both boxes from my desk."
She didn't miss the startled expression on their faces. "Thank you Mr Jacobson," she said coldly, as she accepted the two boxes. Then she opened the first one and took out the golden pip. "Mr Jared, you are hereby promoted to full Commander with all rights and priveleges attached to the rank." She then turned to Nephi, and took the black pip from the box. "Mr Jacobson, despite recent events, Starfleet has decided to continue your promotion to Lieutenant Commander, with all rights and priveleges attached to the rank."
She stepped back, and noticed the startled look had become a look of disbelief. "Congratulations gentlemen," she said, her voice no longer cold, but rather warm and pleasant.

Carrie sent instructions flying in through her console to prevent it beeping. The influx of data that was due would definitely set some alarms ringing. Her skills at concentrating on more than one thing at once were definitely coming in handy.
"Sir, I promise I will tell you as soon as Admiral Hepta arrives, but until that time might I suggest you relax?"
Her commanding officer smiled, "Okay then, I'll go and 'relax' in the main office, and you can hold the fort down here. But will you tell me if..."
"Somehow I think I'll remember." Carrie tried to concentrate on what she was actually supposed to be doing, despite the fact she had hundreds of messages appearing at rapid intervals.
The messages suddenly stopped, so she tapped her commbadge, "Lieutenant Johnstone to Lieutenant Joughin."
=/\= Joughin here =/\=
"I think the main Ops console is malfunctioning, a load of readouts just went blank."
=/\= Just give me a second... No, everything looks good, maybe you should check that you haven't filtered results. =/\=
Carrie smiled as she entered a new command, "Okay, thanks I'll try it."

The self-proclaimed Miscellaneous Officer sat outside the docking entrance to the Vesuvius talking to a full-time security officer.
"See the beauty of working in Ops is that you get an overall picture of how things are done, and you get to find out everything first."
He got a laugh in reply, "Not everything, for example if someone tried to board this ship right now and we refused them access, it would take at least a couple of minutes for the people upstairs to find out."
Josh stood up and started looking up information on a nearby wall panel, "Hey I'm helping out with the shuttles tomorrow."
"Now that's something I wouldn't mind doing just once. So do you get a different job every day then? I mean what are you working on for the next week?"
"Ah, well, see, once I get off duty tomorrow I'm finally taking a load of saved up leave. Not entirely sure what I'm going to do with it yet though. Oh, oops."
The security officer leapt up to see what Josh was doing, "Don't worry, that's just a safety protocol so that you don't disable this alarm by accident."
Josh grinned sheepishly, "Ah, thanks. Would you guess that this is one of the few areas of the starbase I haven't worked in before?"
"No, never" came the sighing reply.

Nephi stepped out of his Office, and raised his voice. "Alright, I just recieved word from the Bridge that we're doing shore-leave in shifts. So basically we're gonna stick to exactly what we do right now, but you get to go to the Starbase whilst not being slave-driven."
With that, about half the room started to leave. "Commodore Reckus to Lieutenant Jacobson and Lieutenant Commander Jared, report to my readyroom and I want you two in here yesterday!" Sonak's voice roared through the comm-channel.
Nephi turned to O'Malley. "You stay put Sarah," he said, as he started towards the door.
"But you're in charge of Alpha shift!" she said in exasperation. "What are you going?!"
"Ready room," he said, but then turned to a console and beamed himself to the Bridge. He walked in right behind Reman.
"You are late," she said coldly as they entered. Uh oh, what did I do now? Nephi thought to himself. He was quite surprised when the black pip was placed on his collar.
"Thank you, ma'am," he said. "I wouldn't have expected it given that I just stood trial for murder."
A few minutes later, he walking back into Engineering. "You can go, Sarah," he said.
"Thanks Lieutenant," she said, not having looked at him.
He smiled. "Um, Sarah? That's Commander," he said, and grinned as he tilted his neck to show his neck.
"Wow, congratulations! Well I guess we don't have to worry about the fact that I outrank you anymore," she said, smiling and winked.

Post by SA. Tettares Hepta [Ret] on Sept 7, 2005 7:20:11 GMT
-¦- Scene: USS Leyden, Private Quarters -¦-
Tettares Hepta, retired Section Admiral, founder and former commander of Section 47, put the news padd down on his knees as the doors to his quarters parted and a young woman--young enough to be his grand daughter--stepped in. She had a pretty face and a well-formed body, that Hepta would have enjoyed looking at if he'd been twenty or thirty years younger. As it was, he simply took her looks for granted. He did that a lot, lately, taking things for granted.
"Admiral, Captain Pacek asked me to tell you we docked at Starbase Bellicose."
"I know," Hepta answered, not caring to elaborate on whether he meant their docking or the captain's asking her to inform him. Not caring was something he did a lot, too, lately. Life in general just didn't seem to matter that much anymore. Of course, that was the primary reason he'd accepted the invitation to go to Doroch Moon Station. If all went well there--and that was by no means a certainty--it would give him an entirely new goal to live for. "Please tell the captain... No, never mind. I'll tell him myself. Here."
He handed the padd to the girl and exited the quarters, leaving her unsure of what to do. She hadn't done anything to deserve that, but it was only a small part of Hepta's mind--too small a part, really--that realized so.
"Computer, locate Captain Pacek."
<Captain Pacek is in his ready room.>
Half a minute later, Hepta was there with him, expressing his gratitude over Pacek allowing him passage to SB Bellicose. The captain remarked what an honour it had been to accommodate someone so important, and he was sorry for the delay caused by the engine problems, but if the Admiral wished, he'd always be welcome back. Some more such courtesies were exchanged, with neither man quite convincing the other of his sincerity. With a final shake of hands, Hepta left the ready room, insisting that he could find his own way to the docking port.
The starbase had a different feel to it from Hepta's last visit, some years ago already. It was hard to tell what had changed, or if indeed it had at all. Hepta knew that he had, and that this often made other things seem different, too. Then again, he was quite sure the carpet had been a dark grey the last time, not a dark yellow. And the walls...
"Good morning, Admiral, and welcome back."
Hepta didn't recognize the transporter chief, and he didn't think it had anything to do with fading memories. He wished people who didn't know him personally, would stop acting and talking like they did. For that matter, he wished people would stop seeing him like some sort of hero. All he'd done was bring some men and women together; it were his successors and those men and women themselves who'd made Section 47 into what it was today.
"My luggage will arrive later, Chief," Hepta said, foregoing the simple politeness of returning a greeting. He wasn't usually like that, but the Chief's "welcome back" rubbed him the wrong way. "Please see to it that it is brought to my quarters. And would you inform Admiral MC7 of my arrival? I know he isn't expecting me for another two hours, but I wouldn't want to walk about his starbase without letting him know."

After the Vesuvius had docked to the Starbase Fox didn't leave his seat behind the helm console. Shore-leave shifts were being made. On receiving the planning he noticed he would be on the last shift. Knowing Wendy would be busy in the Science Labs on the starbase around this time he tabbed a few buttons on his console sending her a message, letting her know when he would be on the Starbase.
<Some time later after Sonak's lunch> When Commander Jacobson and Commander Jared left Sonak's ready room she sat down in the chair behind her desk. A message popped up on her console, she read the message and tabbed her comm-badge.
"Commander Fox, please report to my ready room." she said, while she was still reading the details of the message.
"Aye, Ma'am" he replied. It didn't take long for him to get there, since he was still on the bridge. He entered her readyroom, seeing her sit behind the desk.
"I received a message from Starfleet Command about your transfer request." she started "It's been granted." A smile appeared on Fox's face. "As of today you'll be our Chief Science Officer."
"Thats great news Ma'am." he said all smiling. Sonak continued again. "Go pickup your new uniform, it's laying ready for you." Fox nodded "Yes Ma'am" he replied and left her ready room. He went to pickup his new teal colored uniform. After that he walked to his quarters to put in on.

The chief swallowed and scurried off to see to the order given, for he indeed took it as such. Not much later, the ex-borg admiral appeared in the transporter room. "Greetings admiral," he said, straight to the point, "I trust your journey to this station went well, apart from the small delay? I have arranged quarters for you, but Commodore Reckus is anxious to depart."
Admiral MC7 chuckled. "Well, as anxious as a Vulcan gets that is, you know how they are. She has arranged for VIP quarters on her ship, I shall take you there. Her crew is currently enjoying a bit of shoreleave on the base, and I've tried to convince her to take some leave as well. Perhaps you will have better luck?"
He preceded the old admiral out of the transporter room, modulating his pace, assuming that the older man wouldn't be able to keep up with a quick pace. Not much later, they arrived at the docking hatch of the USS Vesuvius-A. "This is the USS Vesuvius," MC7 explained, "a Somma class vessel, one of a kind at the moment. I am sure her chief engineer will be delighted to tell you about the ship in full detail."
The two men were greeted by a junior officer, who swallowed nervously at the sight of two flag admirals wanting to board the ship. He couldn't just refuse them entry, but he still had to ask their business aboard. He visibly shrank under MC's glare, and stepped aside to let them aboard. "Welcome aboard sirs," he stammered, "do you need directions to the bridge?"
"I can find the way, thank you," MC7 replied, and directed the old admiral to the bridge.
"Admiral on the bridge!" someone announced upon their entry, then corrected, "sorry, admirals on the bridge!"
Sonak turned in the center seat, then gracefully rose to her feet. She smirked at the commander beside her. "I told you that he would arrive soon, did I not Commander Kanz?" She turned back to the admirals. "Welcome aboard the USS Vesuvius, admiral Hepta," she said, walking towards the two men, "I trust you had an uneventful journey? Other than the engine troubles on the USS Leyden?"
Sonak held out her hand to the old admiral. "I am Commodore Sonak Reckus. May I present my senior staff? Commander first class L'Ola Kanz, my first officer. At the science station Commander first class Fox, at OPS Commander Reman Jared and at the helm Commander Mark Harper."
With a quick word of goodbye, Vice Admiral MC7of9 left the bridge to get on with his own work. Sonak motioned for the retired section admiral to take the center seat. "Please," she insisted, "it would not do to keep an admiral standing, that is rather rude if I would do so. I will introduce you to the rest of my crew at the banquet that has been organized in your honour, tonight at 1900 hours."
The Vulcan commodore had never personally met the former Section Admiral, but she had certainly heard a lot about him, and about his glory days. In those days, she commanded the Vagabond refit Class USS Leeuwenhoek, which had been retired along with her own brief retirement. She wouldn't pretend to know the admiral though, not like many youngsters would as he was a learning requirement in the academy these days. Sometimes, Sonak missed the old days, but as a Vulcan she had learned not to dwell on the past, and she was perfectly happy with her new ship, and she did feel extremely honoured, if not proud, to have such an esteemed guest aboard.
"I hope you will enjoy your journey to DMS admiral," she added quietly.

Lara checked off another batch of cargo and issued the appropriate certificate, "You're good to go, enjoy your trip."
With a characteristic smile on her face she uploaded the information to the main computer, at the same time checking where she was supposed to be next.
Halfway along the corridor to cargo bay 4 she became aware of someone following her. She stopped and waited for a few seconds. "You know, most people just call and ask where I am."
"Yeah, but most people just want their junk back from quarantine." Pete stepped to catch up with her "I, on the other hand, have a different interest."
"And we all know what that is." Lara replied, grinning cheekily.
The two of them started walking on together for a while. Pete looked like he was about to say something but couldn't find the right words.
"So, any reason why you decided to find me now and not at the end of my shift?" She stopped walking when she noticed how uncomfortable her partner was looking. "What is it?"
Taking a deep breath, Pete looked her right in the face, "I'm sorry... something just came up and Sam has been trying to get me to help out. And, well, it could make me unavailable for a little while."
"How unavailable?"
"Impossible to see, difficult to reach."
Lara thought for a moment, "Anything I can help with?"
Pete looked a little surprised. "Seriously?"
"Of course. Whatever you need. So, erm, what exactly is it Sam's up to this time?"

Nephi leaned on the console, then turned slightly to look shocked at his Damage Control Specialist, Chief Sweigert. "Are there any systems that need major repair?" he asked.
Sweigert looked at the PADD. "Not really. We didn't do much this mission. We drove the engines pretty hard, so they could use some recalibrations, but that's about it."
"Good. Have Patterson start working on that one," he said, glad he didn't have much work to do. "I'll be on the Bridge," he said, and left.
A few minutes later, he was stepping into the view of Commodore Sonak. "Ma'am, I am happy, and still somewhat shocked. to report that there's barely anything I need to do to repair this ship. The engines need a bit of work, but that about it."
<Sonak>
Nephi then noticed an unfamiliar visitor, and more quickly noticed the 5 Admiral's pips on his collar. He jerked to attention out of his slight slouch. "Sorry sir, didn't see you," he said.

Sonak's apparent irritation had been surprising since Jared knew he hadn't actually done anything to irritate her, but then so did Jacobson last mission and Jared had seen how THAT had gone.
He was mildly surprised to see it was not what it seemed but rather a rather offbeat way of promotion. In the context of the moment he had been more than midly surprised, but in terms of surprises then it wasn't as great by far as say finding out Sonak was really a duck or that the Vesuvius was made out of jam. Even so, things being as they were, he was happy and relieived the volatile Vulcan wasn't actually annoyed. Jared wondered what his reaction would have been in Jacobson's situation. Definately not as calm and compliant, he had been used to surviving for too long for that.
In the moment though, he smiled and thanked the Commodore. 'Thank you, Commodore'
A little while later, he had said goodbye to Sark, who hoped to travel onto Earth and learn all there was about humans. Even with Sark's naturally long life, Jared doubted Sark would ever finish his quest, but as least he had a direction. Jared had looked up the meaning of the symbol Sark had been wearing and had given to him.
Ah...
It was the symbol of office of the Treewood Grove. It appeared that as a final joke, Sark had left his planet behind by handing his position onto one of the faster lived creatures he had met. What's more is that the position appeared to be legitimate; handing on the symbol was all it took. Well it seemed that Jared was stuck with it, and according to custom should now wear it overtly at all times. Two things occurred to Jared: What was Sonak going to make of this? What actually WAS Sark's official position?
Eventually Jared reached what would have to do for a temporary solution.
He arrived on the bridge with the Treewood symbol where his commbadge should be. He had converted the symbol into the frontpiece for the commbadge so that it still worked the same way as usual. He went up to Commodore Sonak. 'I'm sorry about the current uniform oddity, sir, but Sark presented me with this and according to some slightly awkward customs, I don't really have anywhere else I can put it.' <tag Sonak>
After a little while, someone announced the presence of the two admirals on the bridge. Jared was underwhelmed. He nodded to the admirals when he was introduced, but little else. He had never seen or really heard of either one before, so they were yet to earn his respect. Jared had spent his whole life respecting only those who earned it; a gaudy uniform wasn't going to inspire him on its own, despite what past achievements were under it. After all, there was no guarantee the man on the bridge now was the same as when he had risen to that rank.
Time would tell though...

Sonak gazed sideways to see what Hepta would say about the odd, certainly improper, ornament Jared was wearing on his uniform. When he said nothing, she turned back to Jared. "I will alow it for the time being," she said, "but please find another way to wear your....medallion, for lack of a better word."
She gave a final nod towards the COO to let him know that was the end of that issue, and turned to Kanz. "Commander, would you please give Admiral Hepta a tour of the ship? Commander Fox, get me all available data on the Doroch System, specifically it's moon Dorw'I. Mr Harper, set course for Doroch, maximum speed."
At the helm, Harper nodded and Sonak saw his hands fly over his console as he retrieved the co-ordinates and entered them as their destination. A few seconds later, the quiet starfield on the main viewscreen changed into spectrum streaks as the Vesuvius jumped to warp.
<Kanz/Fox/Hepta>
Sonak sat back down in the command chair and ran a hand through her long, loosely worn hair. Once the old admiral had gone with her first officer, she relaxed. She had expected a less grumpy person, but also someone a little younger. Though, to a Vulcan 74 was still a very young age.
The Vulcan commanding officer picked up the PADD that contained his profile, and nodded to herself. "Children my age," she commented to herself, "and a few grandchildren. I wonder why he is so bitter, when he has quite a family to live for." She glanced up at Reman and Fox, and then at Nephi who was also still waiting for something it seemed. She couldn't remember what exactly he had come to the bridge for, but she was certain it had something to do with the engines. "Opinion, gentlemen? Any suggestions on relaxing the admiral? Perhaps suggestions for the dinner party? The banquet has already been arranged, but perhaps ideas on entertainment?"
<Reman/Nephi/Fox>
She nodded at them. "Mr Jared, you have the bridge. I am going to see whether the cook has been able to get things ready for the welcome party. When Commander Kanz and Admiral Hepta get back to the bridge, please ask Hepta to meet me in sickbay."
<Reman>

Lucy stood outside the first officer's quarters for two reasons. She needed to know which department she would be shadowing in first, but she also wanted to check up on how her mother was doing. The sound of something flying across the room gave her a partial answer before she even knocked.
L'Ola did a double-take when she heard the door chimes. "Come in" she said without thinking, and then looked round and saw what a tip the place was.
"Well, this looks... disorganised. What did the PADD do?"
"It had work on it that I didn't really want to think about. I don't know, guess things are kind of getting on top of me lately."
The younger Kanz smiled, "I know exactly what you mean." It was quite clear that she'd sensed things hadn't been right for some time.
"Oh, of course, I still keep forgetting..." L'Ola put down the rest of the things she was holding to be on the safe side, and motioned for Lucy to sit down next to her.
"So, um..." She decided to opt for the official reason for her visit. "I was wondering which department I'll be working in first."
Grabbing one of the PADDs, the first officer found the answer, "I remember this now. Looks like you're Ops shadowing, we're running low on positions that aren't in a transitional phase."
There was a moment's silence that was only broken by the sound of a commbadge beeping.
=/\= Carter to Commander Kanz =/\=
"Kanz here."
=/\= I couldn't help but notice that we have an Admiral currently boarding the ship and that you're not on the Bridge. =/\=
"Thanks for the heads-up Jason. Kanz out" she eplied as she ran out the room.
"Commander, would you please give Admiral Hepta a tour of the ship?"
It had happened. The thing that L'Ola had been hoping to avoid since she got on the Bridge had happened. She wasn't exactly feeling sociable, and generally felt nervous about giving tours to any superior officer.
Trying to make her smile not look so fixed she turned back to Sonak, "Of course, Commodore. And don't worry, I won't get lost. Right this way Admiral."
They made it down in the turbolift and half way along the corridor before either of them spoke. L'Ola suddenly realised that she probably should be saying something. "Okay, first stop will be Main Engineering. This ship can get a little confusing sometimes as we have three of everything."
"It seems inefficient to spread resources in such a manner."
"Maybe, but it can be very useful. When the ship goes into MVAM we can always get to engineering or sickbay." She stopped and turned into a room, "Welcome to the heart of the ship, at least when it's complete. I would be lying if I said I understand everything that goes on in here."
Admiral Hepta looked around the room, "I take it that you are not an engineer then."
L'Ola shook her head, "No Sir, scientist."
"Fortunately, I do not need to know what each person in this room does, just where everything on the ship is."
"Okay then, if you come through this way we can go across the join line onto the second module..." *This could be a very long day* she thought to herself.

'Opinion, gentlemen? Any suggestions on relaxing the admiral? Perhaps suggestions for the dinner party? The banquet has already been arranged, but perhaps ideas on entertainment?'
'It depends on what he likes I suppose' Jared replied 'Maybe put on some music, some dancing or maybe musical chairs' He remained straight faced for that. 'To be honest I don't think he is going to relax; he seems to be watching for something bad to happen. I doubt the computer logs show what his current interests are.'
<tag anyone in the conversation>
'Mr Jared, you have the bridge. I am going to see whether the cook has been able to get things ready for the welcome party. When Commander Kanz and Admiral Hepta get back to the bridge, please ask Hepta to meet me in sickbay.'
Jared sat back into the Ops chair; no point giving up the chair since there was little advantage to the Captain's chair. From here he could see what was going on in and with the ship; the Captain's chair just didn't have the same amount of detail. Eventually Master Swift, the MCPO brought him a PADD with a smile on his face. Jared knew him slightly now since they had time to talk on the way back from Treewood. 'Look at this, sir' he said, showing Jared a line on the PADD. Jared read it; this could be a problem.
Eventually the potential problem came to the bridge; it was Lucy Kanz. 'Hello, um, sir' she said 'I've been assigned to shadow Ops for now at least' she explained. Jared could see Swift smiking to himself whilst pretending to be busy on the edge of the bridge. 'Mr Swift is deeply involved in the Ops since he is the link between myself and the enlisted crew, you might want to start by shadowing him' Swift checked his PADD and dashed off the bridge, he wasn't going to have anyone watching how he did his job. That was his business and his alone. 'Maybe Lieutenant Bates then' Jared suggested 'I think it's supposed to be the COO' she said 'Very well then' Jared sighed 'how much do you know about the Ops console?' 'Not much' she admitted 'Well currently there's nothing really needs doing, so if you'd like to sit down, all you currently need to watch is that these bars don't go out of sync' he pointed at the energy readings currently on display. 'And if this one reaches here, then current proceedure is to watch the engines overtake the bridge and then to spread yourself around deep space with the rest of the ship. This is rare and can be averted by making sure that the propulsion isn't given simply too much power, despite what the CNO may want' Jared left Kanz the Younger to sit down and sat on the Captain's chair. He looked underneath it at how it was connected to the floor. You never know when these things might come in useful.
<tag Kanz>

"Opinion, gentlemen? Any suggestions on relaxing the admiral? Perhaps suggestions for the dinner party? The banquet has already been arranged, but perhaps ideas on entertainment?"
"I have one idea, ma'am," Nephi said, "as for as entertainment goes. The Inuit people are rather known for their music, which is prominent wind instruments. I could talk to my Inuit crewmates, who I recently discovered, often play together. I'm pretty sure I could convince them. The leader of the group is one of my engineers, in fact one of my module CEO's. I think I can talk him into it. But you or Commander Kanz should check on his musical preferences."
Sonak nodded. "I will. See what you can do, Commander."
Nephi nodded back, and left the Bridge, headed back for his mechanical habitat. He prefered Engineering, but he knew he'd have to get used to the Bridge, as he was Second Officer now. He hadn't had to command his module yet, but that was only a matter of time.
"That took a bit longer than most reports," Sarah said when he walked back in.
"I know. There's an Admiral onboard, who was on the Bridge when I got there. Took a bit longer to get in and out."
"Yeah, Carl said something about that. Just mentioned that Commander Kanz had come through Minerva's Engine Room, appeared to be giving a tour to a rather important Admiral. Any idea who?" she asked.
"Indeed. Turns out it's Tettares Hepta, a former Section Admiral. Why he's here I'm not sure yet. But I'm sure I'll here about that at that Briefing. Anyway, where's Alma? I have to speak to him about something."
She pointed upward. "On the second level, helping Patterson with the power problem."
Nephi went over to the ladder, and climbed up. "Alma," he said, quickly finding him.
"Yes, Nephi?" he asked, standing.
"I have a favor to ask. We have an Admiral onboard, and the Commodore is having a dinner party for her. I was wondering if you, Mary and Michael would mind providing some entertainment? This isn't definite yet. We still have to check on the Admiral's tastes and preferences."
"We'd be happy to. Just let us know when and how long."
Nephi smiled. "Excellent.

-¦- Scene: USS Vesuvius-A, Main Engineering -¦-
<snip from L'Ola>
>"Okay then, if you come through this way we can go across the join line onto the second module..."
</snip>
Hepta stepped into the second module, Kanz following right behind him. There wasn't much to show for the actual place where the modules separated, but that was just a case of keeping the tech hidden to the eye. Hepta spotted a seam running vertically down the bulkhead and he momentarily put his hand against it.
"Well spotted, sir," Kanz commented. "Not many notice the join line."
"You have to know what to look for." Hepta had studied the Vesuvius' specs before coming aboard. An old habit, going all the way back to his days as a Cadet when he wanted to impress his seniors with his knowledge. He grimaced. A senior officer himself now--and more that than, as many would have him believe--if there was anything he didn't like about those of lower rank, it was their artificial attempts to impress him. *Don't exaggerate. Just act normally, and if you're good, we'll notice.* He'd actually told that to some, and they were Commodores and Admirals now.
"Is something wrong, sir?"
"Nothing but my mind wondering off," Hepta replied. She must have noticed the grimace. Put together with his momentarily standing still, she probably thought he was in pain. Youngsters! They saw an old body, and always expected it to be weak and fragile. As if it were a secret that a body could be kept in perfect shape with proper medical care, just as a piece of equipment could by proper maintenance.
He advanced into the next room, passing an office where a couple of engineers were huddled around a table. They were playing cards, and doing so quite excitedly. Kanz was suddenly on Hepta's other side, gesturing at something at the other end of the room in an obvious attempt to divert his attention. Hepta kept his eyes on the four card players long enough that he was sure Kanz got his point. Discipline seemed to be lacking aboard the USS Vesuvius-A. First there was the chief operations officer with that odd comm badge, now these engineers playing cards where--and perhaps even when--they shouldn't. Not that Hepta was going to do anything about it himself. He wasn't going to interfere with Sonak's command. Well, not directly, anyway; he was quite convinced Sonak would hear of these engineers, who in turn would take their cards elsewhere from now on.
They crossed the room and Kanz talked about a particularly impressive line of instruments standing there. Hepta listened, actually quite interested. He wasn't an engineer, but he didn't have to be to appreciate the Vesuvius' technology. His attitude even seemed to put Kanz a little at ease. She looked even more relaxed when they exited engineering and carried on to the next part of the tour.
"The science labs are this way, sir."
---- OOC: The discipline thing is purely a character thing, nothing I've noticed as a player. Great group of people here so far, wonderful simming environment.

"Commander Fox, get me all available data on the Doroch System, specifically it's moon Dorw'I." Fox nodded "Aye, Ma'am" he replied and tabbed a few buttons on his console. An image of Doroch appeared on the main screen. "As you can see Doroch is a class M planet." Again Fox tabbed a few buttons, the image changed and showed Dorw'I rotating. "Its moon Dorw'I." Fox continued "Is of class K." On the image of the moon, severale places were blinking. "The spots that light up on the image are habitable zones, created by the the Dorw'Ians." A few more tabs on his console and the image of Dorw'I zoomed out a little, showing some atmospheric details next to it. Quickly Fox loaded more specific details of Dorw'I on a padd, walked to Sonak and handed it to her.

"thank you commander," Sonak replied, and also nodded towards Nephi prior to him exiting the bridge. "Excellent idea Mr Jacobson, please see to it. And remember, we will have a mission briefing two hours prior to the party. Do be on time this time around?" She flashed him a grin, this wasn't something she was going to let him forget so easily.
The Vulcan returned her attention to the PADD. In addition to the Dorw'Ians terraforming the moon, with assistance from the Federation, there was also a Starfleet building on the moon, which was properly named Doroch Moon Station. It's captain was also a Vulcan, going by the name of Savel. Sonak smiled to herself, she had served with Savel on DMS when both were still fresh out of the academy, and they had been corresponding ever since.
It even seemed like yesterday, going back to the region that bordered on Cardassian space. She also remembered Savel talking about Maronda, the chief Dorian who had long resisted Dorw'Ians working for the federation, and getting a say in trivial things like marriage and even in the government. The two of them had been there when the former captain, a Frank Newgarden, had brokered a truce between the males and the females, giving the males limited powers. Until the age of twenty-three they would still serve their mistress dutifully, but after that they were free to find themselves a mate, and settle either on Dorw'I, or on Doroch, whichever place the Dorian would prefer.
No matter how hard the Federation tried, the Doroch culture would always be female dominated. And now they were going to ferry a retired admiral there to oversee the increasingly tense situation with the Cardassians, who had now for years tried to get the Federation out of the region.
"This is very detailed information Mr Fox," Sonak complimented, after sifting through the data for what had seemed a long time, "please make sure that the senior staff receives a copy of this PADD. Briefing is in an hour, I do hope Ms Kanz will be done with her tour by then."

*Please be actually working, please be actually working* Not knowing how far Fox had got with his new department, L'Ola had a strong feeling that the science officers might not be working at peak efficiency.
Much to her relief, the first person they saw as they entered Science Lab 1 was Ensign Collins, working away.
"Greetings, Commander, how can I help?"
L'Ola smiled, "Don't worry, Ensign, nothing's wrong. I'm just giving Admiral Hepta a tour of the ship." She turned to face the Admiral, "This is the main science lab, although as you will see we have quite a few."
She paused for a moment trying to think what to day next, and where to go next.
Jamie remembered something. "Lieutenant Amasova wanted to see you about something, she didn't say what though."
"Thanks, looks like we're heading down to Astrometrics next..."
Waiting until the doors, Ensign Collins tapped his commbadge, "Collins to Lieutenant Carter."
=/\=Carter here =/\=
"Sorry to disturb you Jason, but L'Ola's taking our visiting Admiral on a tour and they're heading your way."
=/\= Okay, thanks. I owe you one. =/\=
<OOC: Sorry it's short, I'm not feeling too good>

Having not much to do, Nephi had climbed down into the Warp Core's "pit". He leaned against wall, feeling the vibrations of the powerful engine. He closed his eyes.
"Nephi?" a female voice called from above.
Nephi looked up, and saw Sarah standing above him, looking down. "Oh, hello Sarah," he sai,d and looked back down at the Core, watching the lights from the flow of the anti-matter go by.
"May I inquire as to why the heck you're just standing down there?" she asked, leaning against the wall.
"I like the combination of the strobing lights and vibrations from the Core. Has an almost hypnotic effect," he said, continuing to watch the core.
"Really," she said, and climbed down into the Pit as well. She leaned against the wall next to him. "Hmm, I see what you mean," she said, staring as the lights. "Nice," she said, closing her eyes.
"Yeah," he said in agreement. "I like to come down here and do this when it's quiet, when there's not much to do."
They both looked over as Carl leaned over the wall to look down at them. "Ya know, it's probably not the best idea to be standing there during a core recalibration."
Nephi chuckled. "There's nothing to worry about Carl. Nothing's going to explode or leak or do anything that has a remote possibility of harming us. But anyway, anything to report?" he asked his Secondary module CEO.
"Not really, rather I'm here on an unofficial matter," he said.
This peaked Nephi's interest. He stood up, turning around. "Oh yeah, what is it?"
"Climb out and I'll show you," he said gesturing to something that was apparently behind him.
Nephi and Sarah both climbed out. As they did, they noticed what he had meant. A wheeled object, about a meter square, and half a meter in height, lay on the deck. Nephi walked around it. It had what looked like a sensor platform or two, and a small communications array. Though it looked incomplete. There were quite a few exposed circuits, and empty equipment ports. "So," he said finally, "what is it?"
"It's what I'm calling a sensor drone. A mobile, autonomous sensor platform. Designed for exploration of planets that are inhospitable to us, and/or where something present prevents orbital scanning," he explained. By his tone of voice, he was quite proud of it.
"So it's an away team scout," Sarah observed.
"Precisely," Carl said nodding.
"And given that it looks incomplete," Nephi noted, "you want our help in some way."
"Well...yeah," he admited. "As power is my special, rather than computers, I'm having trouble getting the programming right. I want to get the autonomous movement part down before I add all the more interesting features. I remote-controlled this thing down here," he said, holding up a small device in his hand. "Mind helping me out?" he asked.
"You actually bother to ask?" Nephi said winking. "We'd love to," he said smiling. "We'll use my office. Patterson, let me know if anything happens," he said to the Lt JG, who was still working on the Warp core recalibration.
Patterson nodded, and then they proceeded to guide the Drone into Nephi's office.

Hepta wasn't a scientist by heart, just as he wasn't an engineer. He'd started his Starfleet career in the operations department, so he knew more about engineering than science. As far as the tour was concerned, he found it difficult to get excited about a couple of people sitting in a lab, studying data on large consoles. Engineering simply was a more impressive sight.
Of course, he tried his best to show interested in what Cmdr. Kanz told him. He might have grown a tad grumpy in recent years, that didn't mean he'd become impolite. And truth be told, Kanz did a good job telling him about some recent discoveries made by the science teams, and how useful they could prove on their missions.
As they got to astrometrics, he noticed Kanz checking a chronometer. It looked like the Commander had an appointment later this afternoon, which was no wonder. She was the first officer, after all, and that was a busy job.
"Commander," Hepta began. "If you are pressed for time, we could postpone the remainder of the tour." He didn't know if he actually wanted to do the rest of the tour. In his long career, he'd seen more starships than he could remember, and had more tours than he could remember, and it all looked alike. "I will be here for a couple of days."
---- OOC: A bit short, as I don't have much time now. Tag, L'Ola.

After they had gotten the Drone into the Office, Nephi leaned back against his desk. "So, what kind of features did you build into this thing? You mentioned sensors? What kind?" he asked, as he crouched down to get a better look.
"Well," Carl began, "Just about everything usual I could think of. EM scanners, radiation sensors, gravitational sensors, atmospherics analyzers, soil samplers, visual and audio sensors; everything useful to an away team. Or that's what I'm planning anyway. The atmospheric and soil parts aren't in there yet."
"Nifty," he said, as he stood back up. "So what exactly is wrong with the autonomy?"
"Well," Carl began, "Apparently it's basically having with relative size. It can figure out how big the object is that its trying to go over, but the movement of the wheels isn't matching up. I think it may be the motor controls."
"Alright, let's see what the problem exactly is," Sarah said. She picked up the chair at Nephi's desk, and placed it tipped-over on the floor. "Have it drive forward, so that the wheels on the one side are going over the chair."
He did so, and the Drone began moving towards the chair. When it reached the chair, the first of the three wheels on that side moved not qute enough up, and got stuck, whilst the middle wheel was lifting up so high it would have been above the chair, despite not yet having reached the chair.
"You see?" Carl asked, pointing at it. "The first wheel doesnt adjust enough, whilst the one behind it overcompensates. Any suggestions?"
"There's probably a problem with the coding," Nephi observed. "I'm assuming you have a data port built into this thing somewhere?"
"Yep, had to do that to program it in the first place," he said, and pressed a button, which opened a panel, revealing a data port. "The code to do that kind of motor control was no problem at least," Carl said, shrugging. He connected a cable to the data port.
Nephi opened another panel in the Office wall, and connected the other end of the cable to another data port. "Alright, lets see what we got," he said, accessing the Drone's computer. But as he began to poke through the programming, he stopped, turning to Carl. "You should probably be the one to do this," he said, stepping away from the console.
Carl stepped up, and accessed a certain data block. "Alright, here's the code that translates physical obstructions into wheel adjustments."
Nephi and Sarah both picked up PADDs, downloading the code into them, and the three together began to hunt for the problem code.

ooc: sorry L'Ola moving ahead a little...I want us in MVAM sunday, and amnesiac monday....
ic:
At last, Jatan saw the first officer guiding their special guest into main sickbay. The CMO had been looking forward to meeting the admiral, it had been one of his greatest wishes ever since he'd graduated from the academy. Naturally, he had heard a lot about Hepta, but everything he knew was hearsay. And now, at last he was finally going to meet the man that made everything happen.
Jatan walked forward, his right hand out-stretched towards the admiral. "Admiral Hepta, what an honour to finally meet you," he smiled, "I am Doctor Jatan Reckus, ships chief medical officer." He enthusiastically beckoned towards a younger man, standing just outside the lab. "That's my associate, Doctor John Caldwell."
Now, Jatan motioned towards a biobed. "Please admiral, take a seat. Protocol requires that every guest will be subjected to a physical, and I fear that even flag officers are not excepted from this." While the admiral reluctantly took place on the biobed, Jatan continued talking. "I'm sure you'll like this ship," he babbled, "she's one of a kind, and my wife takes really good care of her." He smiled down at the admiral. "Yep, the commodore's my wife, we've recently gotten married."
After a few minutes, Jatan waved the admiral off the biobed. "You're as fit as a fiddle, sir," he said formally, "in fact, you are in top-shape for someone your age. I have seen people a few years younger than you, who could do with a few hours per week in a gym, and a healtyh diet."
The CMO winked at L'Ola. "I take it you're taking him back to the bridge now, and prepare for the dinner?"
