Jatan's agonizing and piercing scream was cut short when enemy fire hit him square in the back. He rolled over limply, and remained still. Slowly, the bridge around him was turning black as he lost consciousness. However before he did, he felt a familiar presence in his mind, crying out for them. ~Nick!~ he realized, before he passed out completely.
~~
Sonak's head snapped up suddenly, as she 'heard' someone cry out her name. Her fogged mind suddenly cleared, and she smiled weakly to herself. ~nick?~ she thought, reaching out with her mind ~Nick what are you doing here?~
Her muscles tensed as another jolt sent through her body and she bit down on her lip to keep herself from showing the agony she was experiencing. She tasted blood as her teeth pierced the skin. ~probably looks worse than it actually is~ she thought with some hint of satisfaction ~at least now she will think she has actually hurt me, but I think she has not even begun yet. She is playing with me~
She gazed at Zoril with renewed defiance, even though she new by now that her bondmate had been injured. ~my crew will care for him~ she thought ~at least he is now released from agony~ "You cannot win this," she told Zoril, her voice hoarse from a dry throat. Since her capture she hadn't been given any food or water, and she was starting to feel it too. "I would sooner die than give up Federation secrets, and my crew would sooner destroy the ship, before letting it fall into enemy hands."
ooc: no killing any pc's, no destroying the ship.......hint yes, do no.

L'Ola was sure she felt something weird telepathically, but shrugged it off. She had to. It might lead to guilt later on.
The helmsman turned round and caught her attention, "According to my console we can warp out of here."
"Excellent, now just wait for 3-2-1"
=/\= Jenkins to Bridge =/\=
Kanz smiled, "Right on schedule, I take it you have good news."
=/\= Yes Sir, warp drive finally came back online. The cloak's up and running to, along with a few other systems we were short. =/\=
"Thanks Lieutenant, good work. Kanz out." The smile on L'Ola's face got a whole lot bigger, and definitely contained more than a hint of relief.
Walking over to one of the spare consoles, she loaded up a checklist and went through it. "Kanz to Commander Jared"
=/\= Jared here =/\=
"Have you had chance to talk to the civilians at all?"
=/\= Yes, I sent the message out about a minute after you asked me to =/\=
*Typical efficiency* she thought. "Good, I just heard from Lieutenant Jenkins, looks like we can finally get moving."
It was almost possible to hear the smile at the other end of the conversation as Jared replied, "That's good to hear Commander, I'll contact you as soon as I'm done down here. Jared out."
This was it, as L'Ola sat down in the command chair she realised she was about to action what could be her biggest decision for years to come. And there was no telling what her superiors would think.
"Helm, is the course laid in?"
"Yes Sir"
"Are we ready to engage the cloak once we get moving?"
"Yes Sir"
"Okay then, let's go."

Jared had commandeered the announcement system to warn the civilians about the upcoming battle. 'Attention, civilians of the Vesuvius. Soon we will engage a small Cardassian force. Please remain in the central sections of the module since we may well come under fire. However, our priority is to the safety of the civilians on the ship. Therefore if we are in too much danger, we will withdraw. There is nothing to worry about as long as you remain calm and in the designated sections.' Of course, this in itself wasn't any guarantee that everyone would remain calm, so Jared took the time to have a quick tour of the civilian sections to reassure the civilians. That done, he headed to his quarters to prepare and then to the shuttlebay. After a brief conversation on ship status with Commander Kanz, Jared and the team of security officers with him kitted up. All were dressed in dark civilian clothes but they currently had spacesuits on over the top. They each carried a shoulder bag with their weapons in. Standing in a line, they were connected by a thin cable to the man either side with a distance of several yards in the cable between. Jared surveyed the troops. 'Swift, is that you?' 'Yes, sir' 'Should you be here? You're not a security man' 'If the lads are going into that thing then I'm not letting them go without me, sir' Jared connected himself to the man at the end of the line. He was holding Sprite in his hands, the little robot was going to be important. 'Ready men?' 'Aye, sir' they chanted =/\=Ready when you are, Captain=/\= =/\=Good luck, Commander=/\= Presumably at Kanz's signal, the ship dropped out of warp, the cloak turning on before they were visible in normal space. The lights dimmed at the effort. Then the shuttlebay door opened as the ship performed a barrel roll towards one of the Galor classes. At the moment the first part of the Cardassian ship came into view above them, Jared led the team running into space. They leapt. Sprite's little hover panels extended, helping Jared steer through the void towards the Cardassian ship. Fortunately, the ship was unsuspecting and they bypassed the shields easily, being too small to register as anything but space debris and since they were not approaching from the front, the navigational shields were not even facing them. They landed on the yellow hull, trailing in man after man, activating their boots as soon as they touched down, the first part was done without incident. Fortunately they had landed right on target next to the ship's forward shuttlebay. Sprite touched against the ship's hull and emitted a small EM pulse. It disabled the locking mechanism on the shuttlebay and the door flew open. The team stormed in as the nearby Cardassians looked for weapons. However, Jared's team was already armed, but not in a way which would set off weapons fire alarms. Swift scored the first hit with a four foot long piece of piping. There was a resounding thunk as he applied it deftly to a Cardassian skull. One of the security guards stabbed a Cardassian in the neck with a long dagger and a third incapacitated another Cardassian with another head shot, this time with a heavy piece of electrical cable. The shuttle bay secure, Jared walked up to the doors. Sprite had turned off and rolled into a corner to avoid any detection of the unusual energy signature. The team removed their bulky spacesuits. Underneath, Jared was wearing a thickly padded jacket. It was designed as body armour for boarding operations. His past life was coming in useful now. 'Third stage about to begin, men' Meanwhile, Mercury wasn't sitting idle. It had turned and was now bearing down on the Cardassian flagship under cloak, but from the opposite direction from the Galor being boarded. The held the cloak until they were at point blank range and dropped, firing phasers at the region of the Cardassian bridge. Before the Cardassians could respond to the new threat, the ship was cloaked again and withdrawing to a new attack angle. It was an old Klingon trick, but one which worked well. Jared's opened the door. There was a guard down the hall. His initial reaction of shock cost him his life. Jared planted a bullet in his head from an old silenced projectile handgun. The internal sensors still had no idea the ship was under attack. They reached the turbolifts two minutes and five Cardassians later. The assault team had split into two so that they could enter the bridge from both turbolifts. At the designated point, both teams sent their first contigents onto the lift. Jared was leading his first lot. 'Right men remember. When those doors open, let them hear you well. If they're scared, they're not going to fight half so well.' The doors opened. The men yelled and charged onto the bridge from both sides, swinging their makeshift weapons like dervishes and berserkers. The Cardassian bridge crew had no chance and no prisoners were taken. Even the gul lay dead by the end of it. The second contingent of the teams arrived, now all the Starfleet personnel were on the bridge. 'Stage five please, ensign' Jared commanded and the designated ensign cut off the life support to all decks between the bottom and the bridge whilst blocking turbolift access to the bridge. Soon enough, sensors indicated that all the Cardassians alive on the ship were on the bottom deck. 'Lock that deck, Ensign' It was locked. Jared found the internal communications system. 'Hear me, Cardassians' he announced to them 'I am the new gul of this ship. The old one is dead, as are the whole bridge crew and any Cardassian who stood in our way. Stay where you are and stay still or else I will not hesitate in killing you all. If you remain there, we shall hand you over to Cardassian authorities at the earliest possible time. We shall also claim that you did all that was possible to retake the ship so there will be no repercussions from your government.' One voice replied 'I am Gil Dulak, apparently now the senior Cardassian officer. If you will keep to your word, we surrender. We are not unreasonable people and we recognise that we will do more good to our people alive than dead' 'I shall keep my side of the bargain, Gil' Jared replied and cut the communication. 'Ghemore to Derisak, we are under attack by a cloaked vessel. Try to detect and elimate it' 'We shall' Jared replied, in Cardassian 'You know Cardassian?' Swift asked in surprise 'A little, I can do enough to keep two guards talking whilst three smugglers sneak out the back. I used to deal with Cardassians a fair bit before I joined Starfleet. I can also do Klingon, Romulan and Ferengi, but I'm far from perfect.' Jared turned to a nearby lieutenant 'Make sure this bridge is impregnable when the Cardassians do find out about us. If they do then feel free to use phasers again.' Jared pulled a large communicator out of his pocket. It looked a little like the ones Kirk's crew used to use. It was designed to broadcast for when the ship isn't necessarily listening. =/\=Jared to Mercury, the ship is secure=/\= <tag Kanz> OOC:Sonak, this was Kanz and I's plot

"Ghemore to Derisak, we are under attack by a cloaked vessel. Try to detect and elimate it" an officer said aboard the Ghemore to the Derisak.
"We do not need their assistance!" Gul Ra barked back towards the communication officer.
"I am sorry, I thought they could help."
"You are not supposed to think, I am." Gul Ra said turning back around to face his view screen.
Gul Ra sat patiently as the small Federation ship continued to buzz the Ghemore before cloaking again.
"Scan for any tachyon emissions or residual anti protons, that Federation ship is out there and I intend to find it. Open a channel on all frequencies." Gul Ra ordered.
"Channel open sir."
"Attacking Federation ship, we have your Commodore on board, and you ship in tow. If you do not decloak and stand down we will be forced to kill your Commodore and destroy the ship we have in tow. Your out gunned and it will only be a matter of time before we destroy you. The choice is yours. Gul Ra out."
<Tag Attacking ship>
"Once that ship decloaks I want you to hit it with everything we have got. If we can provide Cardassia with two powerful Federation ships we will be hailed as heroes." Gul Ra stated.
"Weapons ready, targeting sensors are sweeping the system sir."
"Good. Now we wait." Gul Ra said.

Nephi was surprised to hear that coming over the comm system. He tapped his comm-badge. "Bridge to Engineering. Did you just restore communications?"
"Yes sir," Alma replied. "You've got communications and partial weapons. How did you know?"
"Cardassian transmission. Good work Alma. Bridge out."
"Confirmed," reported Fox. "Phasers at 40%. Shields are at 60%. We've also got forward torpedoes, but only about 3."
"Good." Then he had a thought. "Discordia to Leavitts. I want one of your people to open a comm channel to Engineering, then stand next to you."
"Bridge to Engineering," he heard someone say.
"O'Malley here," he overheard. "I wasn't sure there was any Starfleet personnel on the Bridge."
"There are now," Nephi replied.
"Nephi?" There was a pause. "I'm not reading you on this module, and our communications are down. What'd you do, hook a couple comm badges together?"
"That's exactly what I did. Sarah, listen carefully. I need you to figure out the frequency and modulation of the Cardassian shields around you."
"Alright, give me a minute." He waited tensely as she worked. "1.35 Gigahertz, modulation .04"
"Excellent. Fox, rig a torpedo to match that frequency, and prepare to target their tractor beam. Helm, bring us around to intercept them from forward starboard. Fox, as soon as you can, fire the shot. McCoulley, be ready to move in and roll us upside down, and Vasati, ready to tractor them."
Fox protested "But Commander, if we rescue them, the Cardassians might kill Sonak."
Nephi turned to face him. "I know that. But we both know that Sonak would give her life to save us, and wouldn't risk the lives of her crew to save her own."
"Sir," McCoulley reported, "I've been searching everyone's mind while sitting, trying to find answers. And I have something. Our destination was Doroch Moon Station."
"Good. We'll deal with that later. Everybody ready? Good. Engage."
Discordia sweeped towards the Ghemor. The torpedo was fired, and the ship moved in, beginning to roll. The torpedo ripped through their shields, and took out their tractor beam. Minerva began to drop, crashing against the shields. Just as Nephi predicted, the shields couldnt withstand that kind of pressure, and Minerva went right through. Discordia flew in upside-down, and tractored Minerva from below, all the while taking disruptor hits from the Ghemor. Undeterred, they pulled Minerva to a safe distance.

"I would sooner die than give up Federation secrets, and my crew would sooner destroy the ship, before letting it fall into enemy hands."
"You know Commodore, that is something I do so appreciate about your Federation, such ego... its quite a charming trait from an other wise pitiful group of species. Still, this is becoming tiresome... no, I think I have another plan for you. You will give your own life Commodore, but would you give another's?" Zoril asked.
Smirking she turned to the guard outside the cell and instructed them to bring the other prisoner. Sonak may be stubborn when it came to her own life, but would she so readily risk another? Zoril was uncertain, this Vulcan could be especially unpredictable, but it would be most entertaining to find out.
The ragged looking man was tossed into the cell, falling against the wall. "Do you recognise him Commodore? Would you like to know what he has suffered at the hands of my men?" Zoril asked.
Sonak looked at her angrily, rage restrained only by the fact she couldn't move. Zoril smiled. "Perhaps, you'd like a demonstration." She suggested instead, motioning the guards to hold him up against the back wall while restraints were put in place.
"He's quite attractive for a human wouldn't you say my dear Commodore." Zoril said, running one finger down his cheek and laughing when he struggled and spat at her.
"So much fire, a pity to extinguish it... well, almost." Zoril said.
The ship shuddered. Zoril's eyes flashed. "Keep them here! I'll be back!" she ordered the guards, heading for the bridge.

Sonak's eyes widened when Zoril mentioned another prisoner, certainly she wouldn't mean Nick? However when the other prisoner was brought in, she knew it was indeed Nick, and rage built up in her. Her eyes locked gaze with her former first officer's eyes, and saw rage matching her own in them.
~The needs of the many~ she thought, as she continued to stare at him, knowing he would hear ~I am sorry Nick, and I will bear L'Ola's rage and probably hatred with me forever, but it is your life, or theirs. I cannot put the entire crew at risk to save your life, or mine~
"I can see that he has suffered," she replied coldly, as she diverted her eyes from the injured human, "but the suffering he experienced now at the hands of your men is nothing compared to any suffering he has experienced in the past. I do not doubt that you can make him suffer any more than you already have, no matter what you try."
~I am sorry~ she thought again, then gazed directly at Zoril. "He, like me, would give his life, if it would save others."
She closed her eyes and turned away, giving a pretense that she could not bear to watch him suffer any longer. ~now would be a good time for a rescue party to show up~ she thought as she leaned back. It was too bad her arms were strapped to the armrests, she felt the urge to rub her face with her hands. She was starting to feel really tired, and weak and she didn't know how much longer she would be able to keep this up. Even Vulcans could take only so much. Lost in her train of thoughts, she missed Zoril walking away, and didn't even notice the ship was rocking.

Gul Ra sat waiting for a response from the Federation, it came in the form of a single torpedo blast. Spark and small explosions ripped through the bridge of the Ghemore.
"What happened!" Gul Ra barked.
"They found a way to penetrate our shields." An officer yelled back.
"Did they now," Gul Ra said sounding a bit intrigued, "Modulate the shields and keep them modulating. I do not want to feel another torpedo hit my hull again."
"Yes sir."
"Bring us about, and set course to intercept those Federation ships," Gul Ra said getting up and walking over a empty station and began working.
"What are you doing?"
"I do not need to tell you anything." Gul Ra replied.
The light levels dropped dramatically and all non tactical systems began to shut down. With in the Ghemore a second matter/anti-matter reaction chamber fired up and began to produce the power needed to allow several high importance systems to operate at once.
The Cardassian officers looked around the bridge as they heard a strange sound engulf the ship. Gul Ra stood smiling, he closed his eyes and listened to the sounds of a Romulan Cloaking device taking hold of the Cardassian ship.
"I love that sound." Gul Ra said.
"Sir, we are just in torpedo range of the Federation ships."
"Good. Prepare torpedoes." Gul Ra ordered.
"We are going to have to decloak before we fire."
Cardassians can be very simple creatures, Gul Ra thought, "Attack pattern Dukat Alpha 1." Gul Ra said.
"The torpedoes are ready sir."
"Fire!" Gul Ra yelled with excitement.
A full volley of torpedoes launched from the front of the Keldon class warship in a direct course for the fleeing Federation ships. Due to the sheer distance between the ships the volley accuracy was poor. Two out of six torpedoes found their mark on the lead Federation vessel causing bright shield impacts as they exploded.
"Bring me closer!" Gul Ra yelled.

"What the hell is going on!" Zoril growled angrily, she didn't like it when her interrogations were interrupted.
"The Federation ship, they fired on us, we're perusing them now." Ra replied.
"Cease fire, I don't want them destroyed. Come with me!" Zoril ordered Ra.
"Legate..."
"That was not a request." Zoril said eyes flashing.
Ra nodded and followed her into the lift, headed for the brig once again.
Zoril paused the lift half way down, turning on Ra and pushing him against the bulkhead. "You are becoming far to troublesome Ra, if I keep having to repeat myself I'm going to have to reconsider your ability to breath." Zoril threatened.
<tag Ra>
Zoril let him go roughly and restarted the trip to the brig where her prisoners were waiting.
"It is time Commodore that your crew learned to be less troublesome. Patch the video feed from the brig through communications, broadcasting to the Federation ship." Zoril ordered Ra.
"Say goodbye to your mate Commodore, to your children and your crew..." Zoril said, her voice too low to be picked up by the microphones.
Zoril let the idea sink in for just a few moments, saw the realization in Sonak's eyes, but before the Commodore could respond verbally Zoril buried her blade in the Vulcan's gut, watching her, never taking her eyes of her as blood rushed from the wound and the life drained from her eyes, changing them from a bright emerald to a dull almost jade.
Zoril smiled as Martens screamed and Sonak's body stopped its shuddering, the chest still. "Get him out of here." Zoril ordered pointing to Martens who was dragged still screaming form the cell. Zoril was tempted to once again thrust her blade into the Vulcan's body, just for her own amusement, but instead she turned to Ra, just in time to see his eyes widen in surprise...

Since the Derisak had been called off from scanning, Jared took the opportunity to look around the bridge of the ship. Soon enough, Gil Dulak contacted the bridge. 'Gul, my men and I wish to put forward a proposal. Can we meet somewhere in the middle where we can discuss it?' 'Very well, Gil. Wait ten minutes and then travel to deck 7. You may bring one other unarmed Cardassian to enure fair play' Jared didn't bother asking what the proposal was yet, the Gil clearly didn't want to discuss it over the comm link. 'Ensign, bring life support back on in the forward turbolift and deck 7.' Jared turned to two security officers now with nothing to do 'you two, come with me and bring phaser rifles set to stun' Jared then turned and whispered something to Swift before proceeding to the turbolift.
Jared travelled with them down to deck 7, a few minutes later Dulak and another Cardassian arrived. 'What is your proposal?' 'We wish to fake our deaths and defect' 'The Federation might not be able to hide you well enough, the Cardassians could still find out' 'You don't seem typical Starfleet. Your methods are hardly by their book' 'Very observant.' Jared turned to the two security men 'You can return to the bridge now' 'Sir, they might be armed!' one protested 'I trust them' 'With all due respect sir, that makes you the only one on the ship' 'We're not on that ship now, lieutenant. They are not stupid and they know that at the slightest provocation my man on the bridge will kill them all.' The two guards reluctantly left. 'Now, gentlemen, to business' Jared said
Eventually Jared appeared on the bridge again. 'Bring all life support back online, the Cardassians are going to join in, I just need to explain a few things first.'
Within the next few minutes, the ship was back running with a Cardassian crew. Several of the Starfleet crew stood at positions either side of the bridge to avoid the view of anyone else's viewscreen should there be a viewscreen conversation. The rest had gone elsewhere on the ship such as engineering and the sickbay to have a look around. It's funny, Jared mused. The Cardassians are now more comfortable with the situation than the Federation officers and THEY're meant to be the xenophobes. Still, your average Cardassian isn't stupid, just those in high office...
'Gul, something is happening with the Ghemore. They are sending out a transmission to the Starfleet ships' 'On screen' Jared commanded Kanz could obviously tell what was going to happen. =/\=Jared, we need to help her=/\= =/\=I have an idea, throw everything you have at their shield generators=/\= 'Starfleet officers to station, Cardassians out of sight' he ordered
The Derisak turned and charged at the Ghemore and the unseen Mercury did likewise. The Mercury was first to fire on the shields, pounding the generator from the rear of the ship with phasers and torpedoes. Derisak followed suit and the shields dropped. A last volley was fired at the area the cloaking device on the off chance it would take it offline. Meanwhile Sonak disappeared in the shimmer of a transporter beam. A message appeared on the Ghemore's main screen. Jared stood on the bridge of civilian clothed Starfleet officers. 'I'm sorry, Cardies. However she, like this ship, is mine. I'm sure she'd be glad that at least she has 600 dead Cardassians to accompany her.' Without turning, the Derisak entered maximum warp.
On the Mercury, Kanz entered her ready room. Jared was sitting in her chair. 'The Cardassians on the Derisak are trustworthy' If Kanz was surprised she didn't show it. 'Are you sure?' 'Oh yes. But Sprite will keep an eye on them anyway. Sonak is in our sickbay; the Cardie one just isn't the same.'

"Say goodbye to your mate Commodore, to your children and your crew..." Zoril said, her voice too low to be picked up by the microphones.
Sonak stared up at the Cardassian, exchanged a brief look with Nick, and then continued to stare at the woman. There was something about the way she said it, and then she realized what it was. However, before she could respond, she saw the woman's arm move and a searing pain tore through her body, eminating from her abdomen.
She hissed in pain and her breathing quickened briefly. She felt warm blood flow past her leg, into her boot, and probably past it as well. But again she didn't scream, she continued to gaze defiantly at the woman. Then the woman pulled back her hand and showed a green smeared jagged blade. Sonak knew she was dying, as blood now exited the wound at a faster rate. Being a medic, she knew the jagged blade had done more damage on exit, than on entering.
Slowly, the room around her was turning grey, and then black. The last she heard was Nick's scream before she passed out and her last breath left her body.
After Nick was taken away, Zoril used her blade again in anger, and just when she pulled it out again, the dead body was beamed out.
<take it from here, do please revive her. I'll try to get on tonight, otherwise it's going to be monday>
~~
On Minerva's bridge, Hepta gazed at the main viewscreen in shock as he witnessed the Vulcan commanding officer get brutally murdered. Yet he knew that now that she was dead, it was his duty to take command of the ship, and continue her on her mission. The module was extremely badly damaged, and would need to be towed by the other modules.
"Prepare to move away, minimal thrust," he ordered Hargrove, who had taken her seat at the helm again.
The woman nodded, then bent over sideways and vomited. "I'm sorry sir," she said weakly, then went to her task.
~~
Mark Harper paled visibly, after turning dark red with fury. "They...." he started, still staring at the now black screen, "they didn't, did they?" He gazed from L'Ola at the screen and back at L'Ola. Then he watched his console. "Yes, they killed her," he then said through clenched teeth, "sickbay just reported she was dead when they got her beamed in, but they're going to try to revive her."
<anyone snare caldwell and revive her please.....just to into a coma will do for now. tnx>

"Let me go you f***ing lizard!!!" Nick screamed as the guard drug him out of the cell. The image of Sonaks' death firmly etched in his mind. He flailed wildly trying to try to work his way out of the steely grip of the much larger, stronger Cardassian. His strength just wasn't what it used to be after the months of torture.
"Enough!" the guard blurted and delivered a well placed blow to the back of Nick's head. The Tandaran sprawled foreward on the ground dazed. The Cardassian pulled out his rifle. "I'm gonna end this now, once and for all." He set it for disintigration and pointed the rifle at Nick. "Say goodbye wretched human."
Before he could pull the trigger Nick wedged a piece of the cieling tile into his throat. Blood oozed from the wound and the guards mouth and nose. He fell to the deck with a thud and gurgle. Nick relieved him of his weapon and stole off down the corridor.
He heard some officers running down the hall towards him so he ducked into one of the rooms to his right. The doors closed behind him and he was greeted by another Cardassian behind a console. He'd stumbled into a transporter room. The Cardy reached for his pistol but got cut down by a blast from Nicks rifle. As the guard fell he bumped the alarm trigger and set of an intruder alert.
"Vesuvius one to beam over," he said to himself as he punched in the coordinates for the bridge of the Mercury. He punched the initialize button and jumped on the pad. Three guards rushed into the room to see Nick prepping to beam out. A orange beam grabbed the commander and began to dematerialize him. The lead Cardassian yelled out something and fired a round into the beam only to hit the bulkhead behind where Nick once stood.

L'Ola had to laugh when Jared talked about the Cardassians being under control, despite everything that had happened since.
"You know at some point we're going to have to work out what to do with that ship, that is assuming we don't get locked up for hijacking it."
Jared was about to reply when the noise level coming from the Bridge changed dramatically. =/\= Amasova to Commander Kanz. =/\=
"Kanz here, what's happening there Kat?"
=/\= Umm, we have a visitor. Just beamed directly onto the Bridge. =/\=
"Well send them in here then. Kanz out." L'Ola sat on the table and turned back to face Jared, "See that to me was an obvious decision to make, but I'll blame it on Louise still keeping her awake."
There was a non-commital reply, which might have been backed up by words had their visitor not been brought in flagged by the first two security guys that could be located.
Jared looked to L'Ola to see what she would decide to do, not expecting such a laid-back reaction.
"Now I believe it's customary to request permission to board, but I think we can overlook that under the circumstances and just welcome you aboard. Not sure the Cardassian prison cell look really works for you though."

Zoril paused the lift half way down, turning on Ra and pushing him against the bulkhead. "You are becoming far to troublesome Ra, if I keep having to repeat myself I'm going to have to reconsider your ability to breath." Zoril threatened.
Gul Ra was finally starting to get annoyed with the Legate. He stepped in close to the Legate's face and said in a low but firm voice, "Do not forget our agreement Zoril. I am a very powerful man, and I would hate for the first female Legate in Cardassian history to 'disappear'."
Zoril released her grip on Ra, clearly showing signs of anger with the Gul standing in front of her. After a few moments of silence Legate Zoril continued lift back down to towards the brig. The two Cardassian's did not speak another word to each other as they entered the brig. Instantly Zoril went back to work on the Commodore and Ra stood back and watch with child like excitement.

"Now I believe it's customary to request permission to board, but I think we can overlook that under the circumstances and just welcome you aboard. Not sure the Cardassian prison cell look really works for you though." L'Ola teased, looking over the ragged uniform of the officer standing before her. He bowed slightly.
"Very well. Requesting permission to come aboard Commander Kanz," He said with a gleam in his eye.
"How..?" she raised an eyebrow in slight surprise.
"Nevermind that right now, I'm here now and thats all that counts." He looked at her sitting behind the desk, "First officer as well I gather as you're sitting here," He started walking around the office. He came to one of the cabinets and began poking around the edges.
"Sir!?" she prompted but was interupted by a hiss from beside the cabinet. A drawer began opening containing a couple bags of candy and assorted trinkets. He pulled out a Snickers bar and closed the drawer.
"I forgot to clean that out before I left. Good to see you didn't read the design brief on each readyroom. Lots of little secrets," he took another bite from his candy bar. Jared looked from Kanz to the new arrival. L'Ola suddenly clued into who their guest was.
"Mr. Jared I'd like to introduce you to Nick Martens. Former XO and designer of the very ship you're sitting on. Welcome home," she got up from her chair and went to give him a hug. She stopped a step in front of him and waved her hand in front of her nose. "K, you need to go clean up. Now!!" she pointed to the door. Nick laughed and took another bite of his candy bar. He bowed slightly and skipped out onto the bridge. The doors slid closed behind him.
"Odd fellow isn't he," Jared commented.
"You have no idea," L'Ola laughed and took her seat again.

As Nick left the room L'Ola felt a weird feeling going through her. She'd been feeling terrible lately but things had started to stable out. But with him being there again anything could happen. And she wasn't sure she could face that.
Jared looked at her, trying to ignore the fact that his boss was obviously preoccupied, "So, he used to be First Officer then? The extra knowledge could be useful if we're going to get to the bottom of this."
"Yeah, I keep thinking we're finally getting somewhere but we still have Cardassian problems, our CO is in sickbay barely alive, and we have no idea what happened last week." She sighed. Things were really getting on top of her.
"Sir, if you don't mind me saying so, you should take a break... just for half an hour" he added hurriedly when he saw her expression "Might help to clear your mind.
She smiled in reply, "Yeah, you're right. However I believe I would be right in saying you've been on duty longer than I have. Katia will be fine organising the chaos for a while. Are you any good at tennis?"

ooc: barely alive? she was quite dead when she was beamed aboard;)
ic:
John Caldwell was extremely glad he'd beamed to Mecury only minutes before with Jatan, who was still unconscious. "Just as well," the young doctor muttered, as he checked his chief's vitals. He hadn't been critically injured, but bad enough to keep him unconscious for a while. Mercury was where all the civillians were, and with Minerva's sickbay also badly damaged, his best chances of saving anyone injured would be on Mercury.
He had just made sure that Jatan was comfortable, as the man had been moaning and squirming just seconds ago. He had no idea what had gotten into his chief, but when he heard the whine of a transporter, and saw the bloodied body of his commanding officer appear on a biobed without prior warning, he knew instantly what had been going on.
Grabbing the nearest tricorder, he raced over to her and activated the monitors on the bed. A constant beep, accompanied by a lack of further readings told him that she was dead. "Like hell you are," he muttered angrily, as he reached for the nearest tray with instruments. Around him, the holographic staff knew what they had to do without waiting for further instructions.
Caldwell placed the cortical stimulators on Sonak's temples, and started to send electrical impulses into her brain, trying to get some brain activity going again. "Only four minutes," he muttered to himself, as a female human nurse came to him, carrying five units of T negative Vulcan blood. "Autologous," she announced, "we had it in storage. The commodore donates blood on a regular basis, since T negative is quite a rare blood type."
The human doctor sighed with relief. "Hook her up," he ordered, and his relief increased when the monitor started to give a slow heartbeat. "Slow and sluggish, but better than nothing," he sighed, impulsively hugging the nurse, who shot him an embarassed smile. However, on restart of the heartbeat, blood started pulsing from the injuries in her abdomen again. "Right, minor injuries to bones, muscles and face can wait. Whoever killed her knew where to strike a Vulcan, knew how to kill without taking the heart itself."
For the next several minutes, Caldwell and his team worked furiously to save her life, while a nurse kept watch over Jatan, whose vitals had dropped dangerously low when his bondmate had been beamed in. "He's stabilizing," the nurse called, "he was about to wake up but I've given him a mild sedative. You can wake him anytime you like doctor."
After thirty minutes, John gave a cheer when he finally managed to stop all the internal bleedings, and Sonak's vitals raised slowly. "Good job," he told his staff, "but she isn't out of danger yet. The next twenty-four hours will tell us if she'll make it, but for now we've got her stable."
He watched his readings again, and blood drained from his face. "Oh no," he said sadly, as he double-checked his readings, "oh no, Jatan's not going to like this when he comes to."
"What is it?" the nurse asked, walking over to him after she'd made sure the transfusion drip was working properly. She too sighed sadly as he showed her the readings. "Poor woman," she whispered, "this is the second one she's lost. We better wake up Jatan and tell him now. First the good news and then the bad news. As he's your best friend, you better tell him. I'll get up to the bridge and inform Commander Kanz, and then get a message out to Admiral Hepta."
John nodded mutely, and watched the nurse leave. Then he gently shook his chief. "Jate, wake up buddy," he called, shaking him a little more forcefully. He jumped back just in time as Jatan bolted upright, looking about himself in confusion. "Welcome back," John smiled weakly, "I've got some good news, and I've got some bad news."
Jatan gazed at his friend in silence, griefstruck. "Tell me," he said hoarsely, "she died didn't she?"
Caldwell nodded solemnly. "But we've revived her, and she's stable for now. If you wish you can stay with her, in fact, I think it's probably a good idea if you do. She needs to know you're with her, it'll make her will to live stronger. Bring in the children too, tomorrow. But that was the good news." He held out a supporting hand, and walked with jatan to Sonak's bed. "Jate, she was pregnant. But whoever killed her, stabbed her right in the abdomen and killed the foetus. I'm sorry, there is no way I could have saved the foetus. I am only glad that she wasn't as far along into the pregnancy yet, I even doubt that she knew."
Jatan stared at his bondmate, and ran his hand through her still bloodied and matted hair, gently wiping it out of her pale face. Then he bent forwards and kissed her softly. "Thank you," he then muttered at Caldwell, "I know you've done everything you could have. There will be other opportunities, she still can conceive, right?"
Caldwell nodded, then retreated into the office to leave him alone with her. He needed to inform Nephi and Hepta anyway, knowing that Nurse O'Donnell would inform Kanz. After sending a message to Minerva, where Hepta was still making an attempt to hold things together - and he seemed to be succeeding marvelously - he contacted Discordia. "Commander Jacobson," he announced, "I have some good news. We've retrieved the commodore, and we've revived her. However she's still critical and I can't make any predictions on her recovery."
<Jacobson/Hepta>
~~~
Nurse Felice O'Donnell raced to the bridge as fast as she could, not wanting to break the news to the first officer over the intercom. She charged into the readyroom, skidding to a halt and just barely missing Martens who was just on his way out. "Commanders," she started, acknowledging the former first officer's presence as he stopped in the doorway to see what was going on, "Caldwell has revived her and she's alive, but still critical."
O'Donnell walked back onto the bridge, but before she did so, she noticed Jared was also present in the ready room. Her eyes locked gaze with his. "Caldwell says that if you hadn't been so quick on getting a lock onto her, he may not have been able to revive her. He says she owes her life to you."
'Caldwell says that if you hadn't been so quick on getting a lock onto her, he may not have been able to revive her. He says she owes her life to you.' Caldwell told Jared. 'It's all part of being shipmates together. To be honest I'd hoped we could have beamed her out before she died, but it was probably pretty instant given she was Vulcan. I'm surprised Dr Caldwell was able to revive her so well done to him as well. I wonder how she'll take the news that her rescue was helped by Cardassians as well' The nurse shrugged.
Jared turned to Kanz 'maybe we should go and see her before we go anywhere else.' 'Sounds like a good idea' Kanz replied 'I also suggest we remain cloaked; right now I don't think the Cardies know there's a third part and probably assume that Minerva and Discordia are seperate ships. If we appear then it'll be fairly clear what we are'
A voice came over the comm system. "Commander Jacobson," Caldwell announced, "I have some good news. We've retrieved the commodore, and we've revived her. However she's still critical and I can't make any predictions on her recovery."
"Well, at least there is the possibility for that to happen now. Thank you, Doctor. Keep me posted."
"Sir," Vasati responded, "Minerva has engaged minimal thrusters."
"Glad to hear it. Reduce tractor beam to compensate." He looked at the viewscreen, showing the stars ahead of them, as they had now turned away from the Cardassians. "What's the status of the Ghemor?" he asked.
"They seem to be at a somewhat dormant state, from a Tactical point of view anyway," Fox reported. "They aren't moving, and their weapons aren't powered. After that first torpedo volley at us, they just...stopped."
"Good. But we won't take any chances. Helm, maintain course away from the Cardassians."
"Aye sir," McCoulley responded.
Nephi now sat in his chair. Doroch Moon Station... he thought to himself. That name does sound familar now that I think about it...
He stood from his chair, and walked up to the Helm. "Celeste, can you gather any more information or impressions about our current situation."
The part-Betazoid's eyes moved back and forth for a bit, but finally she shook her head. "I'm sorry, Commander, but the attention I've paid the Helm has distracted me from being able to do so."
"Then let's remove that distraction," Nephi answered. He tapped his comm-badge. "Jacobson to Lieutenant Vasai, please report to the Bridge."
Her eyes widened as she realized what Nephi was about to have happen. She turned her chair a bit. "Oh no sir, there's no need for that. You need me here," she protested.
"Lieutenant, we both know that a helmsman is somewhat useless is we don't know where to go. I need you more for the insights you can provide right now than your piloting skills." Just then, the door opened, the Vasai walked onto the Bridge. "Ah good. Mr. Vasai, please take the helm."
McCoulley stood, and moved out of the way. Vasai sat down. Nephi motioned her towards his own chair. "Have a seat, Celeste." She did so, and he went to kneel next to her. "Now, I know that Betazoid's have certain methods for clearing and concentrating your mind. However, I also know such methods work best when you're led through them. Since I don't know Betazoid methods, I'm going to lead you through an Inuit technique. Now, I want to slowly close your eyes, lean your head back, and put your hands in your lap, taking a few deep breaths."
Her eyelids began drooping down over her eyes. Her head began to tilt back against the head-rest of the chair, tilting back and forth with the rising and falling of her chest. Her hands slowly came together, and clasped, resting on her lap.
"Alright, next I want you to relax all of the muscles in your body. Forget your surroundings. Forget the feel of the chair. Ignore the feeling of the deck plating under your feet. Completely clear your mind. Notice all these sensations, but put them aside."
All of the her muscles slowly relaxed. The tension that had built up from the hours of continuous duty evaporated from her. Her face relaxed into a softer, quiet expression. Her hands came apart slightly as her arms and hands further relaxed.
Nephi lowered his voice into a soft, quiet tone. "Now, I want you to move into the minds of the crew. Gather what information you can. You mentioned before a Doroch Moon Station. Can you remember what our purpose in going there was? Can you get an impression of whether we been there already? If not, was it because we were thwarted?"
Behind her eyelids, her eyes began to move back and forth, as if looking towards various members of the crew as she surveyed the thoughts and informations locked away in their minds. "I cannot gather as to why we were supposed to go to Doroch, but I can gather from your own mind, Commander, that we have not visited there. It's a subconscious feeling, repressed, but it's there. We were thwarted in our attempts to do so."
"Which would mean that I was already in Command of this module during at least part of our attempts to get there. Now, think about Gul Ra, and the other Cardassians. Were they what thwarted us? Were they the reason the modules seperated and are so far apart?"
Again, her eyes went back and forth. "Ra and his ships were not the direct cause of why were are in Multi-Vector Assault Mode, but they did have some influence on it. They are at least part of the reason we were so far apart from each other, and they did thwart us," She sighed, slumped down, and opened her eyes. "That's all I can do for now. I'm tired."
"That's okay, Celeste. You did wonderfully," he said, putting his hand on her shoulder. "Get me information on Doroch Moon Station," he called out.
Ensign Stokes responded from the Science station. "It's a colony located on a large moon orbiting a Gas giant, about 1 lightyear from here."
Nephi tapped his commbadge. "Jacobson to Leavitts. Link to Engineering."
"Engineering here," Sarah responded after a moment. "Go ahead Nephi."
"Sarah, can we afford to drag you faster than Full Impulse?" he inquired.
"I should think so. We've got a few holes in us, but we should be able to withstand 125% of Full Impulse at least."
"Good, I'll take it. Keep an eye on it as we move." He tapped his comm-badge twice. "Jacobson to Commander Kanz," he said, hoping this would work. "We've been able to figure out that our destination was Doroch Moon Station, but we haven't been there yet. It's about 1 light-year from here. We can go at about 125% of Full Impulse, but even then it'll take about 3 years to get there. We could work on our Warp engines on the way."
"I also suggest we remain cloaked; right now I don't think the Cardies know there's a third part and probably assume that Minerva and Discordia are seperate ships. If we appear then it'll be fairly clear what we are"
L'Ola nodded, "Yes, we have a tactical advantage at the minute and shouldn't lose it on purpose. Right, let's get down to sickbay." Her head was so messed up she needed to get moving and give it a chance to clear. The constant dull pain she was getting from somewhere didn't really help, but she tried to ignore it.
The Commanders stopped for a moment outside sickbay before going in, as if it would make the problem go away.
Even though seeing Sonak in the state she was in gave no further information, L'Ola felt a little different as they stood looking on and receiving lots of details that made no sense.
Her comm badge started beeping so she excused herself to the attached office.
=/\= Jacobson to Commander Kanz. We've been able to figure out that our destination was Doroch Moon Station, but we haven't been there yet. It's about 1 light-year from here. We can go at about 125% of Full Impulse, but even then it'll take about 3 years to get there. We could work on our Warp engines on the way.=/\=
"I can help you there Commander. We have Warp power and a fully functional Cardassian ship."
=/\= Did I just hear you right? You said you have another ship =/\=
A smile appeared on her face for the briefest of moments, "Yes, that's right. I would recommend you talk to Commander Jared, he seems to have the situation sorted. Kanz out."
<Jacobson/Jared>
Looking round L'Ola noticed a familiar face struggling to act as a nurse. She couldn't resist walking up to him, "Hey Jason, I didn't realise we were this short-handed."
She got a good-natured laugh in reply, "Well it's true. I was helping out on Minerva and got beamed over with the med team." He turned back to his tricorder readings, glad that he was a specialist medical scientist.
Movement that she spotted out the corner of her eye caused the overactive first officer to turn round. The moving engineer froze on the spot as he realised he'd made a BIG mistake.
"SAM JOUGHIN GET OVER HERE THIS INSTANT" L'Ola said as loud as possible for a sickbay. She motioned towards the exit and Sam had no choice but to follow her out.
He stood looking at his feet across from the entrance waiting to hear what would happen next.
"I should have guessed that I'd see you some time soon. After all, I've had Pete and Lara working in Engineering for a while now. Should I be checking with Commander Jacobson to see if he's run into anyone?"
Sam mumbled something in reply but decided it was safest to repeat it out loud, "Sorry, Sir. I was on the main module and was helping Lieutenant Carter. And yes, Josh and Carrie must be on the other module because I haven't run into them at all."
L'Ola shook her head in disbelief, "Okay, right now I don't have time to deal with this. Just get back in there helping out. Once this is over your permanent record will hear of this."
He didn't need telling twice, and practically ran back into sickbay. The stressing-out First Officer started heading back to the Bridge, deciding that a break was out of the question.
"Computer create a communications link-up with the primary module."
"Link created, specify location or crewmember"
"Admiral Hepta."
There was a moments pause and then the channel was opened. She took a deep breath, "Kanz to Admiral Hepta, how are things looking over there?"
=/\= This module appears to be intact although I would not recommend moving without repairing certain areas first. =/\=
"How are the crew doing?"
He apparently asked someone for more information, =/\= We can't be certain for everyone, although several of those that were on the Bridge have received injuries that should be looked at. =/\=
L'Ola rubbed her face in an attempt to concentrate, "Okay, I'll get a medical team back over there. Is there anything else I can do for you Admiral?"
Sonak lay on her biobed silently. The monitors beeped softly behind her as she rested. IV and Oxygen tubes were plugged into various places on her body. Over all she looked like a picture of serenity despite what'd just occurred.
"She's extremely fortunate," Caldwell commented to Jatan. "I'll keep an eye on her for you, go rest buddy."
"Thanks," Jate said with a smile. Just as he turned a scraggly looking man in a tattered uniform walked in. He looked like he'd been through a few wars. Scruffy beard, shaggy hair, bags under his eyes, burn marks on various parts of his body, an overall mess. Yet something looked familiar about this bloke.
"Can I help you?" Caldwell asked.
"Reporting for annual checkup and duty physical." Nick said half-joking.
"First we need your name before you report in," Jate said pulling out a pad. Nick raised an eyebrow. He caught a glimpse of himself in a reflection on a console and laughed.
"Right, you probably don't recognize me. Commander Nick Martens reporting for duty."
Jatans eyes widened, he took a closer look at the man in front of him. Sure enough it was, the same glint of mischief was in his eyes.
"Welcome home. John, get the dermal re-generator. Lets clean this guy up."
Nick sat on a biobed next to the Commodore and John began scanning him.
"How is she?" He asked looking at the placid Vulcan.
"She's doing fine. She's been through allot though."
"I was there. I know." John looked up at Nick when he said that, his look was one of pity.
"Nick.." came a faint voice from next to them. The two looked over to see Sonak looking at them. Nick got off the bed and went up to his commanding officer. She pulled his head close to hers and grasped his hand. "Welcome home," she whispered.
"Get some rest, we need you alive remember," He said softly joking.
"Aye aye," came her response. She smiled, leaned back and closed her eyes again. Soon the sounds of sleep came from her.
Some time later Nick walked out of sickbay and to his old quarters. His body ached and demanded he go to bed, a real bed for once. 4 months of prison cell floor took it's toll. He was looking forward to a nice plush matrice. The doors parted to the room and he fell foreward spralled out on the bed.
~rest~ Sonak thought as she listened to Nick walking away ~yes, I suppose I should~ She slowly closed her eyes again, aware of her bondmate staring at her from a few paces away. He'd been there when she'd first woken up, and had told her that the ship was still in three pieces, and that her first officer was doing a great job, and that she'd come to visit her just a few minutes earlier.
Her mind wandered as she slowly fell asleep, and flashes of a battle were shooting past. A picture of a station kept coming back but she couldn't put a name to the station. A familiar face appeared, elegant pointed ears and upswept eyebrows, a greenish hue to her skin. Savel. But why was she seeing it? What did it have to do with her mission?
The face of a disgruntled old man appeared, he was wearing a dress uniform adorned with the bars denoting the rank of a full admiral, and one pip extra. A retired section admiral, she knew. Hepta. Was he aboard?
Her face contorted into a grimace of pain and anxiety, as she remembered being beamed away and was tortured by a female Cardassian. Tears streamed down her cheeks, as visions of the woman's sneer tortured her sleep. "No," she murmured restlessly, "no, please stop. No!" She screamed as she relived the memories of dying, but she did not wake.
She wasn't aware of Jatan cradling her, looking down on her with sadness. Jatan gazed up at Caldwell. "I can't leave her like this," he said, "she needs me."
"Aye," Caldwell replied, "but what good are you to her if you break down yourself? You need sleep mate, or you won't be able to care for her. She's perfectly safe here, and now that she's been awake, I'm sure she'll pull through. Oh, I got something to do for you. Perhaps you can beam over to Minerva and report to Admiral Hepta what has been going on. I know I've done so myself earlier, but it doesn't hurt to do it again, and you'll have your mind on something else for a few hours. You might also want to write her brother, tell him that she's going to be all right."
Jatan nodded mutely, kissed his wife carefully and walked out of sickbay. Minutes later, he stood at attention before Admiral Hepta, holding out a PADD to the older man. "Ship report sir," he said quietly. The CMO looked pale and his face was drawn, but he was determined not to break down. "I'm also reporting that Commodore Sonak will survive. She's been awake, and is sleeping now. Commander Nick Martens has rejoined our crew, and Commander Kanz has assigned him as Chief of Navigations. He should report soon to relieve Ms Hargrove."
-----------------------Minerva Engine Room------------------------
Sarah O'Malley sighed as she read the latest progress report. Some things had been repaired, but they had far to go before they could travel safely, or even travel at all. Impulse were barely working, Warp wasn't at all, Structural integrity was only up to 50%, and with the holes in the hull, much faster than the 125% she had told Nephi would vibrate the ship apart.
She looked over at her Asst CEO, Patterson, who was hunched over the Warp Diagnostic console. "How's it coming, Joe?" she called over.
He sighed and frowned. "Not so good. The injector assemblies are fused shut, and the dilithium matrix is frozen. It'll be hours before we go anywhere."
"Which won't matter much if we don't repair the problems with the hull. Jarez?" she said, turning to the Chief Petty Officer that served as her Damage Control Specialist.
He looked away from the console checking things on a few meters away, and lifted the large PADD in his hand. "Still need to repair the power feed to most of the Structural Integrity field, as we've got EPS relay problems all over the place. The hull's pot-marked, or more like cratered, all over the place. And even an unscathed hull won't matter if we don't repair the Deflector. Team Alpha and I are about to head out to work on that one. Team Beta is working on the hull, and Team Gamma is on the Integrity field."
-------------------------Discordia Bridge--------------------------
Nephi was surprised. So that's why the other Cardassian ship was attacking the first. Certainly helps their odds.
"Jacobson to Commander Jared."
"Jared here. Go ahead."
"I hear you managed to capture a Cardassian vessel."
"That's correct. We infiltrated and commandeered it. The remaining officers surrendered quite easily."
"That will help considerably. We're pulling Minerva right now, and unless their hull's repaired we can't pull them at warp. And status reports I've gotten say it'll be hours before they can Warp under their own power."
Ensign Stokes responded from the Science station. "It's a colony located on a large moon orbiting a Gas giant, about 1 lightyear from here." With a few tabs on his console Stokes made some information about the Doroch Moon Station and the system it was in appear on the main screen. Looking at it from behind his temporary console Fox had a bit of a déjà vu feeling, but ignored it for now. Turning to Nephi, Fox said. "But if Doroch Moon Station was our destination." he paused a little while and tabbed a few buttons on his console. Then looked to the main screen where he made a stellar cart appeared next to the information Stokes had put on it Fox continued. "The green blinking dots are Bellicose and Doroch Moon Station, the red dots are we. As you can see we are way off course." Looking at Nephi again, Fox continued "I can't explain why we are, maybe we reacted on a distress call or something. But i know for sure we would never make such a detour, unless in the utmost need."
-¦- Scene: USS Vesuvius-A, Minerva Module, Bridge -¦-
Hepta had seen a lot in his life, and had been through a lot, but fate still managed to find something new for him once in a while. Waking up with no record of the past couple of days, the ship in MVAM in the Cardassian demilitarized zone, and Cardassians on top of them before too long--that was new. Brand new. A brand change of pace, too. The mystery, the fighting, it fueled a flame that was on the point of dying when he arrived on the Vesuvius. He felt alive again.
With Sonak kidnapped and her staff spread across the three modules, Hepta had assumed command of Minerva as soon as they'd retaken it from the Cardassians. He didn't really think he should still be commanding a ship, but at the time, it was either him or one of the junior officers, and he definitely wasn't going to let them call the shots.
Some of the command staff had made their way to Minerva since then, but Hepta was kind of enjoying himself, so he planned on staying in command at least until Sonak could resume her duties. Besides, even if some senior officers were now aboard, they were way too busy fixing damage or generally running around to maintain overall command. Let them run. I'll make myself useful from up here.
Dr. Jatan Reckus entered the bridge, looking more than a bit exhausted, but with a determined look in his eyes that said he wasn't going to give up. The man deserved a medal for perseverance. He approached Hepta and proffered a PADD.
<snip from Sonak> "Ship report sir," he said quietly. "I'm also reporting that Commodore Sonak will survive. She's been awake, and is sleeping now. Commander Nick Martens has rejoined our crew, and Commander Kanz has assigned him as Chief of Navigations. He should report soon to relieve Ms Hargrove." </snip>
"That's two items of good news, doctor," Hepta replied. "Especially the first one. Your wife is a strong person, as determined as yourself to keep going whatever happens." He meant it, too. "Dismissed, doctor." No point in letting him wait until Hepta had read the padd, not with so much else still to do.
<Sonak, anything else from Jatan?>
Hepta returned to his chair after Jatan left and browsed through the padd's contents. The attacks had damaged almost every system. Structural integrity, impulse engines, warp drive, shields, weapons... The list was long, as were the estimated repair times.
The turbolift doors opened again, this time admitting the ship's former FO and new Chief of Navigations, Cmdr. Martens. He reported to Hepta and took his station, relieving Ensign Hargrove, who was very much in for a break. Aren't we all? Hepta wondered, but at the same time he knew rest was a luxury most of them couldn't afford right now.
"Bridge to engineering."
"O'Malley here, Admiral."
"Dr. Reckus just gave me an update on the ship's status. Repairs are certainly coming along, but it needs to go faster. I can try to get some more crew from the other two modules, if that helps."
