This is just the first briefing:
The USS Vesuvius-A is sent to a planet <yet to be named> to deliver medication. THis planet is, according to SFI, dealing with a mysterious illness that is highly contagious. THe source of the illness is unknown. However, just before the VES is about to enter orbit, they get intercepted by heavily armed cruisers that SFI didn't even know this species had.
They claim that we are now quarantined because of a DNA virus that has mutated our crew <they see the variety of species aboard the ship as mutations from their own species> into the people we actually are.
Our job is to convince them that they are the ill ones, and that we carry the medication they need to treat the symptoms and that we've arrived to help them discover the source of the illness. Also we've got to convince them that the variety aboard our ship is because we're different species, rather than a few mutations in a single species.

"Commodore, priority one message coming in from Admiral MC7of9!" Crewman McEvans called from the OPS station. He was filling in as the new COO had not yet come on duty.
Sonak turned around and faced him. "Put him through." She turned back to the main screen. "Admiral, a pleasure to see you, what can we do for you?"
The ex-Borg admiral inclined his head ever so slightly. "We have an emergency at the Treewood colony," he said, his voice grave, "a mysterious illness is plagueing them and if they suddenly invent something to leave the system again, they may infect other colonies. We do not know for certain if they in fact have the power to leave the system, but they are a Federation colony and as such we are obliged to aid them. You are to take the Vesuvius to the Tortuga system and quarantine the colony. You will be transporting medication to cure them, if their mysterious illness is something we can cure. If the cure does not work, take every measure necessary to aid them but at all cost keep other ships away from the system, and keep the Treewoods on the planet."
Sonak nodded she understood. "I shall be briefing my crew, and we shall head out within the hour," she replied.
"I knew I could count on you and your crew commodore," MC7 responded, "godspeed." With that his image disappeared from the main screen.
"All hands, this is Commodore Reckus, all hands to stations and prepare for departure as soon as our cargo is aboard! Senior staff, report to briefing room three in one hour!"
<all crew report!>

"All hands, this is Commodore Reckus, all hands to stations and prepare for departure as soon as our cargo is aboard! Senior staff, report to briefing room three in one hour!" came the CO's voice over the comm.
Sarah came into Engineering as the announcement went out, and she seemed to pick up the pace slightly due to it.
Nephi looked up at her. "Sarah, is that Primary Module reactor back online? Please say it is."
She reached him, then nodded. "Yes, Nephi. It's going strong and steady."
"Excellent. Carl, how do the Power systems look?"
Carl looked over the station in front of him. "All systems go, sir. Although there's a slightly phase variance in the backup systems"
"That's alright, we'll fix those enroute if we have to. Alma, how're the Computer systems doing?" he said, looking at the newly appointed Tertiary Module CEO.
Alma looked down, pressed a few keys, then checked the results. "Operating within normal parameters."
"Alright then. Any systems that anyone can see that need last minute maintenance?" Nephi asked, looking around at anyone nearby. When no one said anything, he spoke again. "Good, let's see what we can do about that phase variance, without destabilizing the entire network," Nephi said, looking over at Reynolds, who was responsible for the last time it happened.
=/\= =/\= =/\= =/\= =/\= =/\= =/\= =/\= =/\= =/\= =/\= =/\= =/\=
An hour later, they just about had the phase variance taken care of. But Nephi didn't have anymore time. "Sarah, take over from here. I have a Briefing to get to."
When she acknowledged him, he promptly left for Briefing Room Three.

Nika was on the bridge at her station when the transmission came through, and she noted that they would be receiving medication that would have to be protected, it would be rather embarrassing to arrive at a colony in need of help and discover that the medication had been stolen.
Nika decided on the basics of how she would try protect the cargo, until she knew the specifics of size and approximate value of the cargo, she wouldn’t know the best way to protect it. Having finished that, she decided to study the outline of the ship, trying to figure out its readiness for battle, as well as just what the ship could do in a battle. Nika spent quite a bit time trying to figure out the ship, as it puzzled her.
After about forty-five minutes of time had elapsed, she walked to ready room three. Along the way she met many people, some of which said hello or otherwise greeted her. Nika made a conscious effort not to just nod, annoyed, at those greetings, instead she said a couple of words, and she tried to maintain at least a semi-cheerful tone. She would have to work on this ship, with these people, and even if it seemed like she was adding to unnecessary sound, she was going to try to get along with them. Nika thought that the best way to enter into the over-communication that seemed so far to be true was to gradually adjust. Nika was also willing to vocalize any information that she felt was necessary, she had never had a problem with that. But although exchanging greetings didn’t seem to be necessary, it was something she could deal with.
Nika arrived at ready room three a little early, but she didn’t think that was a problem. If there was time before the meeting she could just study that PADD she had brought along, onto which she had downloaded the ship schematics.

Jared considered that the wisest thing to do first after hearing they were going to be receiving medical supplies was to find somewhere to put them. Cargo bay 7 seemed the safest and most convenient place to put them. That way the most powerful engines were on the same module and they could be easily disposed of as well if the need arose. He went to his station on the bridge and checked the cargo bay was ready. It was so he contacted the station logistics chief. 'Vesuvius COO to Bellicose Logistics Chief, we are ready for reception of medical supplies. How are they arriving?' 'We'll ship them in on delivery shuttles. Which bay do you want them in?' 'Bay seven, I'll leave the door open' Jared had expected them to come by shuttle, transporting wasn't worth the hassle of anything going wrong with vital medicine in a starbase. May as well haul them in the safe way.
From his station and using the viewscreen, Jared watched the little haulers deliver the cases of much needed medicine. They took up most of the cargo bay, but in many ways that wasn't much for a whole planet. Presumably it had been difficult to make and so they had to make sure every case was in good order. After a while, the Logistics Chief came back on the comm. 'Bellicose Logistics Chief to Vesuvius COO, we're all done and clear' 'Roger' Jared replied He shut the bay doors and scanned the cargo. It all seemed in order, but he'd go down after the briefing and check it by sight and tricorder. It just wasn't worth the risk. He'd also better tell the CTSO where the cargo was so she could sort out a detachment to guard it in case of... well just in case. Jared arrived in the briefing room a little later than Cir'Kem. Had he known that his shuttle had arrived also a little later than hers on the ship then he may have wondered about that. But he didn't know. He recognised her as the new CTSO and so went up to her. 'Hello' he said, smiling She winced slightly but replied simply 'Hello' 'We have an important cargo on board in bay 7. Can you have a look later and have some people watch it?' Again, the slight wince when he started speaking. I wonder if she's going to do that every time someone speaks, Jared thought. He picked up a PADD and wrote on it 'are you alright?' and showed it to her.

When Sonak walked into the briefing room, together with Jatan Reckus, they observed the new COO showing a PADD to the new CTSO. Reman looked up as the couple entered, and made Nika aware of their presence.
Sonak nodded in return, by now understanding that the ensign wasn't feeling very comfortable with too much sound. However, there was going to be quite a bit of need for sound, as she could hardly give a briefing via PADD's. In addition, Sonak had been made aware of the fact that anything that was said, was rendered into text to the ensign, since her sight was much more advanced than her hearing.
"Greetings," she said, as she sat down. Jatan sat down on her left, leaving the seat on her right vacant for the first officer. "Have you two been able to settle in all right? I am terribly sorry that you did not have more time to meet the crew." She then motioned to Jatan. "Doctor Reckus tells me that neither of you have reported in for your medical check-ups yet. Please follow him to sickbay after the briefing, so that we may get this over with."
She paused a brief moment "Mr Jared, have you been able to find any information on the Treewood colony? Ms Cir'Kem, how about security protocols?"
<Reman/Nika> (Treewood people have bark-like skin, long fingers that resemble thin branches and feet that resemble roots. Their skin is somewhat brownish and they all have green eyes, which vary in shade per individual. The governor is Paranak, whom will introduce himself when we get to the colony. Otherwise you may make up any information about this colony yourself)

Before Cir'Kem had a chance to reply to his PADD message, Sonak had come in and addressed questions to the two of them.
'Mr Jared, have you been able to find any information on the Treewood colony?' Jared had read some information on them while he had been watching the cargo shuttles deliver the medicine to the cargobay.
'I haven't had time to read up on them fully, but I believe I have all the important facts. The Treewoods are very much like the Dendroids of myth. They are in essence animated trees with a characteristically tree like appearance, such as bark-like skin and branch-like hands. They tend not to go in for spacefaring as that takes them too far from the soil they are happiest in. Their cities insofar as they have them are sprawling, vegetive ones with no more than 2 levels per building. The society is based on true democracy since no major decision can be made without every person affected voting on it. Therefore it takes a long time to make any decisions, but since they live so long this isn't a problem as long as there's no pressing need for a quick decision. They have public officials and demogoges, but certainly no absolute leader in the same way that a grove of trees has no leader. They take a long time to make decisions, but are dogmatic once one is made and it's a long process to make them change their minds. However, if they like you then you'll have a friend for life. One process they have learnt from faster living species is the Emergency Power whereby the governor can make decisions on his own without the lengthy democratic process.
On their diet, they drink most of their nutrients in the form of specially brewed drinks which vary in exact content based on the individual's needs. If we have any aboard then I believe they don't mind telling anyone what they need. They also can eat solid matter, but meat is extremely hard for them to digest since it's not as close to their genetic material as plants. Like the humanoid vegetarian problem but in reverse.
If we end up in a fight then they're difficult to kill in once sense since they have less specialised areas. However, a full phaser blast will have the same effect on them as on anyone else. That's all I have so far.'
Jared waited for Sonak's acknowledgement and if he needed to look up anything else and for Cir'Kem's security report.

(OOC: Impromptu Joint-post between Sonak and me)
Nephi walked along the corridor. Thinking about what he wanted to report, he very quickly realized he had forgotten to bring the progress reports with him that he had intended to summarize. He turned around, and headed back for Engineering at a near-run.
Jogging back into Engineering, he got some curious looks, particularly from Sarah. "Forget something?" she asked, looking up from her station.
"Yeah," he said, catching his breath. He looked over the PADDs he had been handed recently, deciding what to take with him. Deciding he didn't have the luxury of being selective at this point, he just picked up all of them. "Forgot to take these with me," he said, and headed back for the door.
He literally ran back to the turbolift, and when he arrived at the Briefing, he realized he was late. He sat down, into the seat to the right of where Commander Kanz would normally be.
"Sorry I'm late. We had a phase variance in the EPS system which I was busy correcting, and I was halfway here when I realized I forgot these," he said, placing the PADDs on the table in front of him. "So, what did I miss?"
Sonak shot a glare at her chief engineer, she had expected better behaviour from him, especially in front of two new crewmembers. "You missed Mr Jared's report on Treewood society," she said coldly. Her voice was so devoid of emotion that it even made Jatan look up in surprise.
"Next time, have your assistants see to any erroneous engineering item. When I call a briefing, I expect the department head to be on time, understood?"
Sonak knew she was being exceptionally harsh with him, but for some reason she just still didn't like him. Not since he had ordered her death and had nearly burned her as a witch.
All signs of tiredness dropped from Nephi's face when the Commodore gave him the undeserved reprimand. It was unlike her to reprimand an Officer in front of fellow Officers.
"I guess then that you prefer your Department Head's unprepared for briefings, then ma'am?" He said, glaring at her, tapping the progress reports in front of him. "Also, you won't find it such an erroneous item when your module has no power during an emergency, which I was busy preventing from happening. Now, am I allowed to hear a summary of Lieutenant Jared's report, or am I to be kept in the dark, furthering hindering my performance?"
He didn't know where this hostility toward him was coming from. Did she still dislike him for the Camelot incident?
Sonak shot her CEO a sharp glare; it was bad enough that he had arrived late, but now he was starting to go out of line. "You are out of line mister Jacobson," she suddenly snapped, "you have a very competent assistant who knows the ship as well as you do. When I call a briefing, I expect you to be on time. And if you forget your material that is entirely your fault."
When Nephi opened his mouth to retort, Sonak silenced him. "For your transgression I shall have a reprimand put into your temporary record, but for your behaviour.." Sonak motioned at Cir'Kem. "Ensign, please have a security detail escort Mr Jacobson to the brig."

"All hands, this is Commodore Reckus, all hands to stations and prepare for departure as soon as our cargo is aboard! Senior staff, report to briefing room three in one hour!" Fox sat in his quarters on the Vesuvius when he got Sonaks report call. "Good" Fox thought "i still have time to say goodbye." He immediately left his quarters and went to Wendy's quarters on Bellicose. When he got there, he saw she wasn't there. "Must be working he thought." And sprinted to the Science labs, almost bumping into some officers on his way there. Once there he informed with the Chief Science Officer where Wendy was. It seemed she was busy with some experiment. "Can she be disturbed for a little while?" Fox asked the CScO. Who nodded "wait here" he said "i'll go get her" and walked in one of the labs. Not much later Wendy came walking out of the lab. They hugged eachother. "Whats up" she asked. "We're going on a mission again." Fox replied "And really wanted to say goodbye personally this time." "I'll sure miss you." Wendy said. "And i will miss you too." Fox replied "If i can, i will write you." A smile appeared on her face. "I'd really like that." She said. Fox asked the computer what time it was, then turned to Wendy again. "I have a briefing in 15 minutes and we'll depart right after it." They kissed eachother goodbye and both went their ways. She into the science lab and he to the briefing room onboard the Vesuvius." 5 minutes before the briefing would start he entered the room and looked around seeing everyone except nephi was there. He greeted everyone and sat down in a chair waiting for the briefing to start.

The Commodore's words broke through the anger, and struck him to the core. This was the first time he had ever had to be disciplined, and definitely the first time he had been sentenced to the Brig.
When Security arrived, they stood over his chair. "Escort Lieutenant Jacobson to the Brig," Sonak said, coldly.
As Nephi stood, and pushed the PADDs forward slightly. "You'll want these," he said to Sonak. One of the guards took his arm, starting to pull him. He shrugged it off. "I know the way," he said, heading towards the door. As they left the Briefing Room, and headed down the corridor, he asked. "So which Brig you taking me to?"
"Main Brig, sir" the guard responded, following behind him.
When they reached the Brig, he stepped in. When the forcefield was activated, he sat done heavily on the bed provided. He looked around at the cell. He had been in this Brig before, but that had been to repair it. Now, he was here as its occupant. Noting the fact that he wasn't on duty anymore, he removed his uniform jacket and gold uniform shirt, leaving the tank-top of the uniform.
He laid down on the bed, and clasped his hands behind his head, staring at the ceiling, wondering how long the Commodore would leave him in here for this.

Sonak felt the sharp stares of her senior staff, and also sensed the anger and resentment coming from her chief engineer. However, she couldn't have senior staff talking back to her without the proper respect due her rank and position. In her belief, she had been completely within her rights to reprimand him for his behaviour, even though he was certainly needed.
She had meant to send him to the brig for a few hours to cool off, and think his actions over, and she certainly had no intention of smudging his record with something trivial as this. Yet, the shocked looks on the faces of her crew made her realise that perhaps she'd been a little too hars on him. ~There is no turning back now~ she thought ~if I call him back, he may do it again, and it will undermine my decision as commanding officer~
Sonak ignored the disapproving stares, and picked up the stack of PADD's Nephi had angrily shoved towards her. Glancing them over, she was impressed. "Ms Kanz, do you have any reports on the science level of the Treewoods? Doctor, level of medical skills? Jared, what else can you tell me about their level of technology? Mr McVaye, as soon as we arrive I want you to take down a team and evaluate their mental health. Mr Fox, ETA to Treewood?"
The Vesuvius had departed Bellicose as soon as she'd given the call for the briefing, so she knew that it couldn't take too long.
Jatan handed his commanding officer/bondmate a PADD. "The Treewoods are quite advanced when it comes to medical profession," he announced, "they are quite versed in herbology, but use little technology to treat ailments. Since they are vegetation-like, they are more prone to diseases that usually strike plants, than any illness that would strike ordinary people. I would have to examine a Treewood myself to confirm Starfleet reports."
Sonak nodded. "Very well, does anyone else have anything to add?"
<anyone?>
"Then I will end this briefing. Return to your posts everyone!" She gathered the stack of PADD's and dumped them on her desk in the readyroom. Then she retrieved one of them, and walked down to the main brig area, where she found Nephi lying on a cot.
"Just what did you think you were trying to achieve with this behaviour?" she enquired, "how do you think being late and talking back looks to the junior staff?"

Back at his station, Jared returned to reviewing Treewood physiology and society. Apparently their current governor was Director Paranak who it appeared was also their top military man, or tree, and probably one of the few definately not infected with the disease since he was on the Singing Soil, their flagship, at the time. Jared decided it would be best to contact him and see what the problem was.
=/\=USS Vesuvius to Singing Soil, COO Lt Jared here, do you receive me?=/\= After a little bit came the reply. Sub-Director Shork looked a little taller than humans, a little thinner and around his face and head twigs grew out with a growth of healthy green leaves. His skin was also the brown colour that healthy Treewoods should have. Jared felt that he would be one of few who still looked like that. Entwined with the twigs was a crown of much larger silver leaves on which the edges were wilting. Probably a seal of office Jared thought, and no doubt when the leaves wilt his term is over. The symbol of his power is also the symbol of his impermanence, very ironic.
^|^Singing Soil here, Sub-Director Shork speaking, go ahead^|^ Jared could hear a low droning sound that started just before the Director started speaking and ended just before he stopped. It occurred to Jared that the Universal Translator was translating only as much as it could understand of their speech. Also, they clearly did not have one since they weren't warp capable and so had little contact with outsiders. =/\=We are brining medical supplies as requested by the Treewood Grove but we would like further information on the nature of the disease=/\= ^|^We are grateful for your help, however we have little that we know about the disease. It came from whereabouts unknown, as if a foreigner brought it or an animal gave it to us. We think we know what it is, a fungus that turns our leaves yellow and and our bark light. It is early enough that none have yet died, but this shall not be the case for much longer since many are now weak. We are being careful by closing our cities, which we have never done before, and staying in isolation, a dreadful curse for social creatures like ourselves. But we shall persevere and remove this dreadful plague^|^ I wonder if they all talk for this long, Jared thought. =/\=Well we should be there before too long, hopefully the supplies will help=/\= ^|^The Grove thanks Starfleet for all the help they can, have and will give us. May the soil be rich for you. Sub-Director Shork out^|^
Better relay this to Commodore Sonak and hope she doesn't throw me in the brig for talking to the Treewoods first, Jared thought. Thank the stars for knowing how to mind block, I'd hate anyone to know I just thought that...
As he was leaving his station, Jared noticed one last passage on Treewood physiology. Hmm, he thought, they reproduce in a vegetative way with hard shelled seeds like nuts. I wonder if they only do so at certain times of the year...
Without actually finding the answer to this, Jared closed the readout and went to find Sonak. <tag Sonak when you're done with Jacobson>

Nephi lay there, and for the heck of it, decided to figure out how many days he'd been alive.
Let's see, he thought to himself. I'm 23 years old, so multiplying that by 365 days per year makes.....8200 days or so? No, thats not right, more like 8400. And lets see, I had my birthday 3 months ago, so assuming thirty days per month, thats an additional 90 days, so 8490 days, but round that off to 8500, to make it easier. And 21 additonal days, so about 8520 days.....
"Just what did you think you were trying to achieve with this behaviour?" he heard a voice say. He turned to his head to find the Commodore standing there. "How do you think being late and talking back looks to the junior staff?"
He sat up quickly. "I owe you my profoundest apologies for my behavior, Ma'am. I know as Second Officer I should be setting a better example than that, especially since their fresh out of the Academy."
He looked down, sighed a bit, then looked back to meet her still-somewhat cold gaze. "It's just that ever since I came onboard, and indeed, when you contacted me to offer me this position, you made it quite clear you expected excellence out of me, in every aspect of my work. I especially didn't want to arrive at a briefing unprepared. So I turned back, and grabbed those progress reports I left in the meeting. But, when I got there, I was confronted and reprimanded for making those efforts. For you to so abruptly give a sharp contrast....I guess it got the better of me. My slight embarrasment for showing up late turned into anger. I completely understand having a reprimand placed on my record, but I'm hoping you will allow me to return to duty soon. You have no idea how much I regret this."
He looked down, and noticed the outer parts of his uniform lying next to him, and looked back up. "And forgive me for being underdressed. I wasn't expecting to see you so quickly. I thought you'd at least leave me in here a few hours before even coming down."

"I believe that your reaction is telling me how much you regret this lieutenant," Sonak said, still staring down at him without any distinct expression on her face. "I never demanded perfection of you, as nobody is perfect. But when I call a briefing, with an hour advance notice, I expect everyone to be on time. And if I make a mention of someone being late, I do not expect to be talked back to."
Sonak gazed down at the PADD in her hand. "However I am most impressed with the work you have done since we docked at Bellicose. Especially considering what state the Vesuvius was in when we docked." She reached sideways and touched the cell's controls. With a hum, the forcefield disappeared. "Sentencing you to the brig was too hars on my part. Instead I am placing you under house arrest for a week. When you are not on duty, or not going out for a meal, you are confined to your quarters, and your activities on the raquetball team are suspended until further notice."
She stepped aside to let him out of the cell. "Now, I believe you have work to do?" She held out the PADD to him. She left the holding cell area after Nephi had gone and shook her had sadly. She didn't like reprimanding her crew, and this was the first time she'd been forced to set an example.
When she returned to the bridge, Lieutenant Jared was waiting for her with a report. "Well done lieutenant," she said, as she sat down in the centre seat, "Ms Kanz, have you and Doctor Reckus made sure that we have all medication aboard?" At her first officer's nod, she gave a slight smile. "Well, then I suppose all we have to do now is arrive safely at the colony, and see that we can get an audience with Director Paranak. Mr Jared, can you arrange for his assistant, the person you spoke with earlier, that an appointment is made for us?"
<a slight modification for Jared....he didn't speak with the director but rather with an aide. Paranak wishes to describe his character himself, as well as the personality. My apollogies for the confusion.>

OOC: I didn't know this beforehand. Anyone who already read the post, I have changed it to his assistant, Sub-Director Shork. If you need the physical and costume descriptions of the Treewoods removed as well then just say.
No, there's no need for that:)
More time with the Sub-Director, Jared thought to himself. 'Yes, sir. I shall see to it right away' Jared replied
Jared called up the Sub-Director on his panel again. =/\=Sub-Director Shork, this is the USS Vesuvius here again=/\= ^|^It's been barely any time since we last spoke. So it's true what they say about humans being so fast paced. What can we help you with?^|^ =/\=Our captain, Commodore Sonak Reckus, would like an audience with Director Paranak when we arrive. Unfortunately I don't know exactly how long that will be. Does the Director have limited time?=/\= ^|^We are Treewoods, we have a lot of time. The Director is very busy with this plague, but I'm sure he'll fit you in nonetheless since you are coming to help us. If you contact us when you are closer then I'm sure we we fit you in at the earliest possible convenience. Is that all?^|^ =/\=Yes thank you, I shall relay this to Commodore Sonak, Vesuvius out=/\= ^|^May the soil be rich for you, Sub-Director Shork out^|^
Jared returned to Commodore Sonak. 'Sir, the Sub-Director says that if we contact him as soon as we are nearby then he shall arrange a meeting. It appears the Director is too busy to give a definite time much before we arrive.'

Nephi sighed, but agreed it that was just punishment. Lt Myers would not be happy that he wouldn't be at practice for a while, but that couldnt be helped. He put the outer elements of his uniform back on.
Seeing he had replaced his uniform, she said, "Now, I believe you have work to do?" She stepped aside, and held out a PADD. He took it from her whilst stepping out, and started reading it while he left the Brig.
Right at the top were his orders. She wanted best possible speed for the trip to Treewood colony, to have all systems at optimal efficiency, and wanted him to research Treewood technology. He tapped his commbadge. "Jacobson to Engineering Senior Staff. Report for a meeting in my Office in 5 minutes," he said, as he walked out the door of the Main Brig.
As he walked, he continued reading the PADD. Sonak had graciously provided a transcript of the Briefing he had missed entirely. It provided the culturally, medical, and physiological information on the Treewoods. He almost winced as he read the record of his heated responses to the Commodore's disciplining. He'd have to make up for it all by re-doubling his efforts this mission.
A few minutes later, his Senior Staff were in his Office. Present were Sarah, and her Module Asst CEO, Lt Patterson. Also present was Carl, and his MACEO, Ensign Vallard. And finally, Alma, with his MACEO, Ensign Krak. Seeing them all present, he nodded, then began.
"All right, we've got our orders. We're going on a humanitarian mission. I know, this means nothing too exciting for us, but my orders," he said, lifting the PADD, and placing it back down, "are for best possible speed on the way there. So, we're going to cycling mode with the Cores, 8-hour intervals. We'll be running them hot on this one. You all know the drill, Sarah and Patterson in Primary, Carl and Vallard in Secondary, with myself right here. Of course, this is all only when you've got the responsible Core. Otherwise, I want you back here helping me."
He looked down, chuckling. "I guess I'm just repeating what you already know, huh? Well anyway, we've got other orders. The Commodore also sometimes optimal performance from all systems. Optimal, rather than just peak. That said, status reports. Sarah, how's that phase variance?"
"Completely negated, as of a few minutes ago. Won't give us anymore more trouble," she said, cheerful for the first time today.
"Carl, the rest of the Power systems?" he said, turning him
"Doing just fine, sir. I'll force every millicochrane out of those reactors and cores with my bare hands if I have to," he said, winking.
"Well, maybe not that far. You don't want your hands incinerated," Nephi said, and chuckled. "Alma, navigation systems?"
"Unless theres a dunderhead at the helm, we'll be just fine," Alma reported back.
"Alright, I can see a pattern here. Any system that's not the best it can be?" he said, looking around at the Staff. He just shaking heads in reply. "Good, dismissed," he said, waving toward the door.
As they filed out, he tapped his commbadge. "Jacobson to Bridge. Commodore, I've got warp cores ready for cycling mode whenever you need it."

Hours later, the USS Vesuvius-A approached Treewood. "Lieutenant Jared, contact the sub-director and inform him that we request a meeting with Director Paranak as soon as possible."
Sonak turned to Fox. "Enter standard orbit at vector-approach, and inform Treewood authorities that they should not be alarmed at our size."
Again she turned around, this time to face her first officer, and husband, who stood off the side discussing means of transporting the medication. "You two should beam down in EV-suits, just in case. We do not know what is ailing these people for certain, and until we know that it is not immunogenic for us, you will take any precaution necessary."
She tapped her combadge. "Mr Jacobson, what have you discovered on Treewood technology?"
Finally tired of just turning around, she got up and approached her chief of security. "Send down a small detail to keep an eye on Commanders Kanz and Reckus. Join them yourself, if you feel like going on a little trip."
<Paranak...wanna introduce yourself?>

'Yes, sir' Jared replied to the command.
Once more he called up the Sub-Director onto his panel's display. ^|^Ahh, COO Lieutenant Jared again I see. Have you arrived at our most lovely of planets?^|^ =/\=Yes, Sub-Director Shork, we have. I hope I am not interrupting, but Commodore Sonak Reckus would like to arrange an audience with Director Paranak at the earliest possible convenience=/\= ^|^You were not interrupting anything, I was merely thinking. Of course, Director Paranak will see you as soon as possible. Let me go and find out if he is busy or if he can grant Commodore Sonak Reckus her audience^|^ After a few minutes, Shork returned back on view on the little panel. ^|^Of course, he will see you right away^|^ =/\=Thank you, Sub-Director Shork=/\= ^|^May the soil be rich for you, COO Lieutenant Jared^|^ Shork's image disappeared. 'Commodore, Director Paranak's on the line; I'll patch it to the main viewscreen' Jared pressed a couple of buttons and the symbol of the Treewood Grove appeared on the main viewscreen, waiting for Director Paranak to open the link his end.
<There's a little introduction for Director Paranak>

Director Paranak's image appeared on the viewscreen almost as soon as the viewscreen was activated. Paranak was unlike others of his kind. He was extremely tall, with a very large and sturdy trunk. He began to speak, in a very slow baritone voice.
Paranak: Greetings little ones. I would like to extend to you a welcome to the Colony of Treewood. For hundreds of years I have seen strange creatures, but you are by far some of the strangest. For you see...Oh...I do apologise. I know how much you creatures despise lingering words. I shall keep it brief... I await the transport so that I may meet with you and....discuss the situation. Farewell for now...May the soil be rich for you.
The screen switched off and Paranak's image dissapeared.

"Mr Jacobson, what have you discovered on Treewood technology?" Nephi heard through over the comm-line.
He sat up at his desk, and picked up one of the PADDs on which he had been summarizing the data. "Well, despite themselves and their buildings being woody, they have developed metallurgical technology, and from my scans, they have larger industrial complexes, though these are less populated than we would expect, probably having to do with, as Mr Jared reported, their desire to stay near the soil."
He placed that PADD down at picked up another one. "One of the things that surprised me is that they've discovered fusion, and it is their main source of energy. Their energy generation is centralized, with a single massive facility per continent, for the same reasons I described with their industry."
He again picked up another PADD. "I've found quite a few artifical satellites in orbit. From what I see they're for communciations, weather, but nothing that resembles a defensive weapon
He picked up yet another PADD. "However I have found multiple weapon platforms scattered throughout the planet. Although I haven't found anything that could come up into Space and shoot us out of the sky, I have found what appear to be missile silos, probably antimatter for the warhead. They're of sufficient size that 2 or 3 could take us out entirely. I'd recommend caution."

Fox sat behind the helm console, treewood had come within visual range. It was viewed on the main screen, slowly becoming larger as they came closer. Finally..... Sonak turned to Fox. "Enter standard orbit at vector-approach, and inform Treewood authorities that they should not be alarmed at our size." "Aye, Ma'am." Fox replied and tapped a few buttons on his console, making the Vesuvius enter an orbit around treewood. Not much later he turned around on his chair. "We're in orbit Ma'am" Fox reported. Immediately Jared called the Sub-Director. And not much later Paranak appeared on the main screen, welcoming them to Treewood.

Nika didn’t respond until after Reman had, and after she had had a security force take Lieutenant Jacobson away, as she was ordered to do so by Commodore Reckus.
"They closely guard all of their goods themselves, rather than leaving such an important task to an automated system. As a result, their security can suffer depending on the person, but it seems to work well enough for them. Their planet is very well guarded." Nika replied, hoping that was the kind of information that Commodore Reckus had wanted. She also realized that she hadn’t said as much as Reman, but the Treewood colony wasn’t exactly willing to share all of their security information, and Nika didn’t really blame them.
Nika nodded in response, and decided that she should join the security detail, it would give her a chance to meet the people on the security team, which would likely prove important, if not on this mission than on later ones.

"Acknowledged Mr jacobson," Sonak replied, "I would like you to join the away team and see if you can get permission to have a look at their technology from up close. If there's anything they need fixed, give them a hand."
Sonak sat back in her chair. Sometimes she envied her crew, for they got to go on away missions where generally she was stuck on the bridge. "Keep me informed," she called after Cir'Kem as the young woman left the bridge.
Before her, Fox still sat at the helm, keeping an eye on their altitude. "What do you think of this all Mr Fox?" she asked her old commanding officer and first officer, "do you think they are a threat to us?"
She saw Reman step down to the command level, and she beckoned him to sit down in the first officer's seat, now that L'Ola had joined the away team. "What do you think Mr jared?"

"Yes Ma'am. I'm on my way." He tapped the commbadge. "Sarah, take over again," he said, and left for the transporter room, tucking a tricorder into his belt as he left Engineering.
When he arrived in transporter room, Commander Kanz, Doctor Reckus, Ensign Cir'Kem and another security officer were already there. "Ready, Lieutenant?" L'Ola asked him. When he said, "Yes, Commander", they stepped onto the transporter. "Energize," she said told the Transporter Chief, and they soon rematerialized on Treewood.
A tall, thick woody-looking man approached them, followed closely by another man. "Greetings. I am Director Paranak, and this is Sub-Director Shork," he said, indicating the man next to him. "Welcome to Treewood Colony."
L'Ola stepped forward slightly. "Thank you, Director. I am Commander L'Ola Kanz, First Officer of the Vesuvius. And here we have Doctor Reckus, our Chief Medical Officer, Lieutenant Jacobson, our Chief Engineer, and Ensign Cir'Kem, our Chief of Security."
Shork noticed Nephi's small size, compared to Doctor Reckus'. "Does your culture's heights differ so widely? We don't usually find females taller than males."
Nephi chose to answer the question himself. "I am smaller than many of the species because of evolutionary adaptations. I come for a colder climate, and so my culture developed shorter, stockier bodies to preserve body heat."
"Ah, I see. Interesting," Shork said.

Nika decided to take a Trill security officer, a lieutenant, with her on the away team. She hadn’t had a chance to do much more than read over his file, but Lieutenant Hakan seemed competent enough. And hopefully they wouldn’t need too much security, even if Nika knew better than to rely strictly on optimism.
Nika and the other security officer arrived fairly early, then waited for the other members of the team to arrive. When Doctor Reckus walked in she apologized to him that she had not had the chance to report for her physical, and promised that she would as soon as they returned.
Nika smiled a little as they were transported down, she wasn’t sure that she particularly liked the idea behind the transportation, but she was getting used to the slight tingling sensation, but the sudden disorientation at watching the transporter room disintegrate into the planetside Treewood colony. She also didn’t like the frightening possibility, however low it was, that she might materialize inside of something, or surrounded by it.
Nika looked around after they were transported, not letting her relief that they were all in one piece show. Instead she carefully watched as two tall, thick woody-looking men approached them, and she listened warily to the following conversation.
