It had been several days since the crew of the Vesuvius had been transported from the middle ages back to their own comfortable surroundings. Yet, something odd was going on. Space around Earth was very quiet, whereas normally it was buzzing with activity. Jatan and Sonak had taken the few days off to spend some time together and with Jatan's family (and now that they were at Earth, also Sonak's family), but as the days passed, the quietness grew increasingly uncomfortable. Now, however it was time to say goodbye and return to home base. Sonak walked onto the bridge, once again her old confident self and she exchanged glances with her first officer as she sat down in the command chair. "Bridge to engineering, what is the status of our engines?" Sonak enquired, as she motioned for Fox to set course for Bellicose station. Just before she could order the 'engage', Meylor at OPS spoke up. "Ma'am, message from starfleet command, it's marked urgent." Sonak turned and raised an eyebrow at her COO. "And they only send it now just as we are about to go home?" she querried, "by all means, put it on screen." <guest admiral > "Engineering, belay engines order, it appears that we are staying here for the time being." <bit of a short post I know....but someone else is better fit to write a more elaborate intro here;)>

On the screen appeared Admiral James Vander of Starfleet Command.
"Greetings, Commodore. I apologize for stopping you like this, as I know you were just about to depart to return to the Sellah Sector. However, it looks like it will be a while before you return."
He paused, then continued. "Yesterday, a large squadron of Federation starships flew into Earth's solar system. We found this unusual, as we had no such group scheduled to be arriving. We attempted to hail them, but got no response. They approached Earth, and then, when they came within weapons range of Earth, changed their appearance into Klingon warships, and commenced an attack. We lost quite a few facilities, and multiple smaller starships and freighters. We are attempting to contact the Klingons, but as yet have gotten no response."
He once again paused.
"Now, the reason as to why I am even telling you any of this. I have been assigned to deal with this situation. And such a response requires quick action. The Vesuvius-A is the most tactically capable of any vessel currently at Earth. I am taking Command of the Vesuvius until this conflict is resolved. Prepare for my arrival. I will be beaming over immediately. Vander out."
(OOC: Hello everyone! This looks to be an interesting mission, and I look forward to playing this role.)

Surprised, Sonak sat back in the command chair and she exchanged glances with her first officer. "Well, that was rather sudden," she muttered, as she rose from her chair. "I had better go down to the transporter room to welcome the admiral aboard then. You have the bridge Mr Martens."
~odd name~ she thought to herself as she walked to the transporter room ~as if he left part of his name out on purpose and put the other two parts together to form one name~ To her, the name more sounded like 'van der' rather dan Vander, thus giving the implication that part was missing.
When Sonak arrived in the transporter room, the admiral was already aboard, arguing with the transporter chief who wouldn't let him leave. "Welcome aboard admiral," Sonak greeted him, "if you would follow me I shall lead you to the main bridge. I fear that any newcomer gets rather lost during his first solo tour of the ship."
She paused a moment. "Are you familiar with the Somma class vessels, sir?" she finally asked, hoping that he'd say no. "I shall call a briefing in an hour," she continued, "my crew is still getting re-acclimated to their surroundings, after a disturbing issue with Q."
They arrived back on the bridge, and Sonak introduced him to the majority of her crew, which were present on the bridge. "Admiral, this is my first officer, Commander Nick Martens. At science Commander first class L' Ola Kanz, at OPS Commander Meylor Paht and at the helm Commander first Class Fox. Lieutenant Jacobson is in engineering and Commander Reckus is in sickbay. Ensign McVaye is probably either in his office, or off duty, but you will meet them at the briefing."

After Commodore Sonak introduced her Senior Staff, Vander went to each of them, shaking their hands, apparently to the surprise of all. Apparently no one had expecting him to be so open and friendly.
"My greetings to each of you. I have indeed heard of all of you. You may be surprised to learn that your reputations precede all of you."
He looked around the Bridge. "There are two reasons why I chose the Vesuvius for this mission. The most obvious is its powerful tactical abilities. You designed her well, Commander Martens."
He then looked into the eyes of each of them. "However, there is a greater reason as to why I chose this vessel. What this crew has done, particularly those of you standing here, is extraordinary. I chose the Vesuvius for its crew, not the ship."
He then turned to Commodore Sonak. "Commodore, if you dont mind I would like to move up the briefing. The situation requires action as soon as possible. How soon can you have it?"

~Great another bureaucrat~ Nick thought to himself when he shook the Admirals hand. He smiled and looked at Sonak who nodded that it was alright.
"You designed her well, Commander Martens," Vander complimented.
"Indeed, I take great pride in my work sir."
Vander turned to the rest of the bridge crew and kept talking. Nick took his seat and pulled up system reports, trying to keep his mind off the new change of command. He vaugly heard Sonak announce the meeting scheduel and nodded.

Daniel collapsed on his bed. Images of his role as Marcus flashed past his eyes. I've killed a man, in cold blood, he thought, shivers running down his spine, it made him feel sick. He stared at the ceiling, and sighed. He missed Melissa, she'd be the one to comfort him now, but he didn't even know where she was.
He fell asleep after a few hours of useless turning in his bed. His dreams were disturbing. He was dressed in medieval cloths, and saw a man with a burning torch running at him, swinging a rusty sword above his head, about to decapitate Daniel's head. Daniel tried to run, but couldn't, as he found himself to be crippled. It was a strange sensation as Daniel felt his head fly through the air when the sword cut it clean off. He snapped awake at the moment his head was about to hit the earth again.
Daniel looked around. "Computer, time," he said, sounding exhausted. *The time is 0416 hours,* the computer notified. Daniel sighed, and dropped back onto his pillow. He was wide awake, although he felt more tired than ever. He got up, and had the replicator make him a triple espresso. His couch felt soft as he sank down, the steaming mug of coffee clutched in his hands. Daniel stared at nothing as he took a sip. "Tired are we?" a voice came. Daniel shook his head, he really needed to get more rest, perhaps even a leave of absence. That would a bit exaggerated, he thought.
"Exaggerated? Yes it would be, you won't get rid of me just by getting more rest, or a leave of absence." Take it easy Daniel, you're being delusional, Daniel thought. "Haha, delusional? No Daniel, you're in denial, in denial of my existence, don't, it won't work." "Who are you?!" Daniel exclaimed, jumping up, spilling his mug of espresso on the floor, "leave me alone!" "Hmm, leave you alone? That won't do, you see, I can't leave you, I am you." "Oh no, you're not me!" Daniel said, his heart thumping in his chest. Relax Dan, no need to panick, he thought.
Daniel couldn't remember what more'd happened that night when he picked himself up from the floor of his quarters as the computer's chime woke him in time for duty. Denying his thoughts Daniel took a sonic shower and got dressed. Skipping breakfast that morning Daniel managed to find his way to a turbolift, and had it take him to the bridge.
His head not clear yet that morning Daniel nearly bumped into a man he was not familiar with. Five golden pips were displayed on hi collar, and Daniel had to blink his eyes a few times before he realized that he saw the number correctly. "Admiral Vander, meet ensign Daniel McVaye," Sonak said. "A pleasure admiral," Daniel said, quickly sticking out his hand, which the admiral took. "Rough nigth?" Vander asked Daniel. "Kind of," Daniel nodded vaguely, not entirely trusting everything about the admiral. "If you'll excuse me admiral," Daniel said, "I'd like to get to work." Daniel gave the man a quick smile. "Of course ensign," the admiral nodded. Just then commodore Sonak announced a briefing, and Daniel decided to head past his office before going there, not able to figure why he went to the bridge in the first place. He sighed as he stepped back into the turbolift. "My office." The lift began its descent.

Nephi was in Engineering, checking to make sure their not-so-little jump through time hadnt had any lasting effects. Fortunately it looked like Starbase maintenance had done a pretty good job of taking care of things.
Sarah came over. "So what's this I hear about the Chief Engineer being delusional during our visit to the 13th Century?"
Nephi turned. "What have you heard?"
"Oh I've heard a variety of things, with varying stories. Everyone's saying you thought you were King Arthur, though the reason why varies from a knock on the head, to being possessed by a dark spirit. And under that influence, some say you almost killed Commodore Sonak, and some say you tried to wipe out an entire courtyard of people with a phaser. So what happened?"
Nephi shook his head in amazement. "It's interesting how stories can get mixed up and exaggerated. I did think I was King Arthur, due to a bump on the head. The dark spirit possesion was something I suspected Sonak of, whom I thought was Guinevere. She and Commander Martens both still knew who they were, unlike me. She tried a meld with me, and one thing led to another and I ordered for burned at the stake for witchcraft. The phaser was because Commander Martens shot me after the Commodore was already on fire. That brought me out of it, and I rescued her. We went elsewhere, where we discovered what was happening. Then Q showed up and brought us back to the ship. It's really strange now that I think about it."
Carl came up to them. "Hey, I just heard that we've been delayed because an Admiral is onboard. Apparently something about Klingons attacking Earth. And the Admiral's taking Command for the present time."
Sarah rolled her eyes. "Oh...yay."
Nephi sighed. "A Desk Junkie, huh? I don't like most Admirals. They're too worried about protocol and rules and regulations. And they like to throw their weight around at anyone less than a Commander. As long as he doesn't come in here and tell me how to run my Engine Room, I'll be fair. But I'm not really looking forward to this."
Carl and Sarah just nodded in agreement.

"As I said," Sonak repeated, as she motioned for the admiral to sit down, "I had called a meeting in an hour, upon your arrival, so in approximately 20 minutes everyone will be ready for the briefing." She was surprised to find the admiral so open about the situation, whereas any other admiral she actually knew would be more anxious and closed.
Yet, she was very hesitant to give up command of her vessel, who knew where the admiral would take her, and what would be done to her. "Is there anything specific we should be aware of?" she finally asked, scrutinizing the human admiral. She would know instantly if he were lying, though the admiral would probably be unaware of that little fact.
"If you would follow me, I shall show you your quarters before we move to the briefing room to commence information exchange about mission and ship," she said at last, and motioned for the admiral to follow her. VIP quarters were rather spateous, even on a vessel like the Vesuvius, and were luxurously decorated, though the occupant could still change the decoration to his or her personal liking.
"I will leave you so you can freshen up a little," Sonak said, as she showed the admiral his quarters, "and I will meet you back on the bridge in ten minutes, after which I will show you to the briefing room. Until then, I will have to tend to my family and see to their safety while there is a chance we may become a targed of the Klingons also."
The Vulcan commodore excused herself, and went to see that her children were safe in the daycare centre. Ten minutes later, as agreed, she returned to the bridge, and escorted Admiral Vander to the briefingroom. Slowly, the rest of the senior staff also filed in.

Vander walked into the briefing room, and sat down at the head of the table. Commodore Sonak looked at him for a moment, then took a seat next to him, obviously not used to this.
During the next few minutes, the Senior Staff slowly filed in. Those he had met on the Bridge came in first, followed by the other three Sonak mentioned but had not been present at the time.
When they all arrived, Sonak began to introduce them. "Admiral, I allow me to present the remainder of my Senior Staff. Commander Jatan Reckus, my Chief Medical Officer." She motioned to the man sitting next to her. Evidently her new husband he had heard about. "Next, Lieutenant Nephi Jacobson, my Chief Engineer." She then motioned to a smaller, though heavier built young man. He appeared to be a Native American of some kind, perhaps Eskimo. "And finally, my Ship's Counselor, Acting Ensign Daniel McVaye." She motioned to an average-sized young man with light brown hair.
She then turned to her crew. "Everyone, I would like to introduce Admiral James Vander, Starfleet. Evidently an incident has come up, and Admiral Vander will be taking Command of the Vesuvius until it is resolved. Admiral, the time is yours."
James stood. "Thank you Commodore." He walked over near to the wall panel at the side of the room. "Some of you have already heard this, but I will repeat it for those that didn't, and fill in the details. Yesterday, we picked up a large squadron of Starfleet vessels entering Earth's solar system. We were not expecting such a squadron, so we hailed the Sovereign-class that was in the lead. We got no response from them. Here is a visual, recorded by a starship in orbit, of what happened when they reached Earth's orbit."
He activated the display. On the screen showed a large group of Starfleet vessels. Then, all of a sudden, each of the vessels seemed to shimmer, and reappeared as Klingon vessels. Very quickly they began attacking ships and installations all around them.
He froze the recording, then turned back to the crew. "As you can see, we have significant reason for concern. Not only did they visually look like Starfleet vessels, but appeared to be on sensors. They had the ability to change their warp signature, and sensor data even indicated the ability to mimic weapons signatures. When we discovered us, we were significantly alarmed. It would appear that the Klingons have the ability to make themselves look like Federation vessels. And we're theorizing that this camoflague isnt limited to Federation mimicking either."
He went back to the table to a stack of PADDs he had brought with him. He slid them across the table, one to each person. "These are copies of the sensor data collected before and after the change. I'm looking to see if any of you have any theories as to why the Klingons may want to do this. And for those of you with Engineering and Science knowledge, do you think it is indeed possible for the Klingons to mimic any ship they wish?"

Sitting on the Bridge L'Ola wasn't entirely working. She felt a bit worried sitting in full view when she was just reading up on something, if anyone asked her a question response time could be rather big. Jason was supposed to be the one up there, but when they checked the rotations Lieutenant Wilson was on security, and tensions were just a little too high at the moment.
So as long as no one wanted any information, which they shouldn't, everything would be okay. Well, not exactly okay. Try as she might L'Ola just couldn't concentrate on what she was reading. She wasn't sure if she couldn't absorb the information, or if she didn't want to.
She looked up to listen when Admiral Vander appeared on screen and was intrigued to see everyone else's reactions. She even looked over to see Sonak's reaction to getting a new Captain.
But as soon as the screen switched back to viewer and their current CO had left the Bridge, L'Ola went back to reading... until she realised someone was trying to look over her shoulder. Almost automatically she exited the file she was reading and turned round.
"Okay, now I know for sure that wasn't work" Nick commented.
"I guess it wasn't. What tipped you off?"
He grinned, "You never pay it that much attention for that long. But don't try to avoid it, what was that?"
She folded her arms and went into her 'defensive mode', "Just a letter I got this morning, it's from one of the doctors on Bellicose..."
Nick was about to ask for further details when one of the doors opened to let Admiral Vander and Commodore Sonak onto the bridge. L'Ola went back to reading, knowing that straight after their briefing she was going to have some questions to answer.
Something about the sensor data didn't look quite right, but she couldn't put her finger on what exactly it was that was wrong. Technically it was perfect, it was something else that bothered her. Unfortunately she needed to say something straight away and work on intuition later.
"Admiral, I don't know why the Klingons would want to do this the way things stand at the moment, but it wouldn't take much of a reason to change their minds. And as far as the technology goes, most ships round here could do that to some extent..."

Sonak didn't like the way the admiral had taken command of her ship, and certainly didn't like him seating himself, unasked, in her chair. Yet she let it pass without comment, instead taking the next seat available. She listened with interest to the briefing, and wasn't surprised to hear Kanz's comment about other ships being able to do so.
"I quite agree," she then spoke up, "I believe this ship would also be able to do this, since we have the holographic capability to do so." She glanced at the chief engineer for verification, upon which he walked over to the nearest panel, and tapped in a few commands.
Instantly, Harper, who was on the bridge called to the briefing room. "Commodore, the USS Rubber Duck is powering up weapons," he called, "and demands to know why we suddenly look like a Romulan D'deridex warbird."
"Thank you Mr Jacobson," Sonak replied instead, "you have shown what we can do. Mr Harper, you may inform the Rubber Duck that we were giving Admiral Vander a demonstration of what we can do. Do commend him for the quick response please."
"Aye ma'am," Harper replied, and signed off.
Sonak turned to the admiral. "As you may have figured out by now, the Vesuvius is a rather advanced vessel. Mr Jacobson and Mr Martens can inform you of her tactical capabilities if you choose so. As for your presence here, what is it that you wish the Vesuvius to do? From your briefing I gather that an entire fleet was destroyed by the Klingons. Surely you do not exect me to sacrifice my crew in a futile attempt to singlehandedly stop the Klingons?"
She knew she was probably out of line with her suggestion, but she knew she also had to ask. If this was what the admiral wanted the crew to do, sacrifice themselves to no apparent aim, then she would have to tell him to get the hell off her ship.

15 Minutes before the briefing fox called another navigation officer to replace him during the meeting. He got up from his chair behind the helm console and walked to the turbolift, leaving the navigation officer in his place.
Not much later he entered the briefing room, seeing Sonak and the admiral sit there already. He also sat down in a chair and waited. Not much later the others came walking in, each taking a place around the table.
Sonak held a short introduction after which Admiral Vander started to explain what this was all about.
Later during the meeting Admiral Vender slided a pad toward everyone. Fox took his and looked at the information on it. He couldn't see anything wrong in them. Everything looked perfect.

Katia sat in her quarters and sighed. She was exhausted. Things were really starting to take their toll on her. She picked up a PADD that was lying on the table and started to flick through the information. Not that she really needed to know any of it. It was just the details of her latest pre-natel scans, but it beat sitting doing nothing.
Everything had been different lately. Since the break-up she hadn't seen James once, and on a ship that size that meant he must be avoiding her. *Not that I can blame him* she thought. She'd completed her half of the paperwork and sent it off, but she hadn't heard whether things were official yet.
And to make matters worse it wasn't clear where Jason stood on the whole thing. He'd seemed far more distant since things became semi-public. It still wasn't common knowledge who the father of her baby was, but there was no point denying that it would be soon.
Not being the sort of person with lots of close friends, Kat didn't know who to turn to. She was going to talk to L'Ola, but something seemed wrong with her at the moment.
There was only one thing left to do. "Computer, where is Ensign McVaye?"
"Ensign McVaye is in the Briefing Room"
"Computer why do you have such a boring voice?"
"Please restate the question."
Kat laughed, "Never mind." She went to the console in her quarters and sent a message to the counsellor to tell her when he was free. *That should help a little at least...*
At that moment her comm badge went off, and a very nervous sounding voice could be heard.
=/\= Ensign Collins to Lieutenant Amasova. Umm... we have a slight problem in Astrometrics... Ed can't work out what we did and Commander Kanz is in a meeting so... =/\=
"Okay, on my way." She hit her badge to end the conversation and walked out the room feeling a little better. At least someone needed her.

Vander made a few notes on the PADD he was carrrying, almost jabbing at it in annoyance. "Well....someone....failed to....inform me....that you have holographic technology on such a scale. However, that may also be to our advantage."
He turned to the almost-fuming Commodore. While her comment was rather out-of-line, it was understandable. "Obviously I don't expect this ship to go flying around and stop the Klingons on our own. That would indeed be futile, and would be a needless sacrifice of many resourceful, capable, not to mention excellent, Officers. Instead, I intend to use this vessel as a Base of Operations of sorts. I need a ship to deal with this, particularly if I am going to Q'onos to do so. The reason why I chose such an advanced and capable vessel is misunderstood it seems. I intend it for defensive purposes, rather than offensive. If things get rough, I would prefer to have some formidable firepower at my disposal."
Just then a voice came over the comm =/\= Bridge to Briefing Room. Theres a transmission for Admiral Vander from General Gorak of the Klingon Defense Force =/\=
Vander looked at the Senior Staff. "Normally, I shouldn't do this in front of all of you, but I believe we should all hear this one." He tapped his comm-badge. =/\= Patch him through =/\=
Vander stood and went in front of the screen, attempting to hide the fact that there were others in the room. An older Klingon appeared. "Greetings Admiral. I am General Gorak, Supreme Commander of the Klingon Defense Force."
"I'm glad you called, General. I had intended to contact soon, but this works as well. We need to discuss this incident."
Gorak didnt look so happy at this. "I would say we do. The question is, why did this happen?"
Vander was taken back by this. "Don't tell me you didn't have anything to do with this."
Gorak looked furious. "A Fleet of Federation Starships attacks the Klingon Homeworld and you blame me for having something to do with this?!"
Vander was shocked "What?"

“Do not dishonour yourself with such pretence Admiral” Gorak bellowed, “it was only the bravery of the loyal soldiers of the Empire who prevented your attempted destruction of the Klingon Empire.”
“General, you must be mistaken, it is the Klingon’s who attacked Earth.”
“Lies!” Gorak exclaimed, “We would not behave in such a way to dishonour ourselves.”
Around Gorak’s cramped office, his senior ship commanders were all roaring with anger, anger directed at the puny human Admiral they could see on the viewscreen.
“General Gorak, we have proof of the Klingon’s attack,” Admiral Vander began, “Now while I am willing to believe it was an unauthorised attack on Earth, I cannot believe that any Starfleet ship would attack your home system.”
“Are you trying to call me a liar, Admiral” Gorak’s face was one of an ugly monster from folk lore, his sharp fangs were clearly visible, and his eyes were locked threateningly on the Admiral before him.
Vander chose to bypass that particular question, instead he informed Gorak that he, and the Vesuvius would be arriving in the home system shortly.
“We will not permit you to cross our boarders, any Federation ship seen in our space will be destroyed upon sight,” Gorak warned. And with that, the Klingon General cut the channel.
“Human p’tag!” Captain Klang roared, “We should launch a full assault.”
“Agreed,” Commander K’Tang said sharply, “destroy them before they do us.”
“Silence!” Gorak shouted rising to his feet he over-threw his own desk, at once each Klingon turned to face him, “we will let them come, and when they least expect it will revenge our brothers.”
“It will be a glorious battle.” Klang said wistfully, “songs will be sung.”
“The only song you will hear Captain, will be the screams of the Federation dogs dying!” laughed Gorak, “so let them come, and let them see that the Klingon Empire will not be toyed with!”

"Gentlemen!" Sonak cut in forcefully, standing up and blocking the view of either man to one another. "Apparently we have some misunderstanding here. It seems a Federation fleet attacked Q'onoS, but a Klingon battlefleet, under the pretense of being a Federation fleet, entered Sol system and attacked the fleet in orbit around Earth."
She glared at the Klingon general. "This fleet, which appeared to be Federation, seemed to be using holographic imaging, as when they were in the Sol system, they shut this imaging down and then appeared to be Klingon battlecruisers. They attacked the fleet, destroying several ships and killing many people in the process."
She held up her hand, silencing him when he tried to return an argument. "Do not tell me that these were not Klingons, for our sensors showed that they indeed were. Who is to say that these Klingons were not the same who attacked your homeworld, while pretending to be Federation vessels? Surely that is a possebility."
She caught Vander's glare at her, but ignored it. "I am not willing to risk the lives of my crew, and my ship to come to the rescue of a Klingon that accuses us of an attack while there is the possebility of his own people carrying the blame for this attack. At present, Earth needs our assistance more than Q'onoS does, and I intend to lend my assistance to any Federation vessel under attack from a Klingon. You say you want our help, but in the same sentence you also say that any Federation vessel entering Klingon territory will be destroyed. Make up your mind General, before it is done for you."
However before she finished her sentence, the general signed off without replying. "Get him back," Sonak ordered. She was aware that the Klingon had not asked for their assistance, but she was just giving him a preliminary warning that she had no intention of coming to their aid under the current threat to Earth and the Federation.
She then turned to Kanz. "What do you think of this general?" she asked, counting on the science officer's knowledge and experience with Klingons. "Is he the concerned general he appears to be, or is there more going on than he lets on?"

Vander stood looking at the now-dark screen, with an after-image of General Gorak lurking burned onto his retinas. It seemed he needed to see a Doctor about his eyes, as that screened look a little too bright.
He turned back to the crew. "Well, we certainly have a sticky situation here, now don't we? General Gorak does not believe the claim that Klingon ships apparently attacked Earth, nor can we actually believe that a group of Starfleet ships actually attacked Q'onos. So right now we both think the other is lying. Quite a difficult situation indeed."
He looked around at the crew. "So, what we need are theories as to what may have really happened. Did someone steal Federation ships? That doesn't seem too likely given that we're talking very large, powerful ships to inflict the damage the General is describing. It would have to been difficult for anyone to commandeer that many ships, and still be in good enough condition to mount such an attack."
He looked over at Commodore Sonak. "Commodore, I realize that I didn't come onboard in the most amicable fashion. You had not even met me before yet I came aboard and took Command. I can see your Senior Staff isn't so happy about it. So, I return Command of the Vesuvius back over to you."
He walked over, and turned the chair at the head of the table towards her, offering it to her.

Gorak stormed onto the bridge of the mighty Nehg’Var, the flagship of the Klingon Defence Forces, and the most powerful ship ever built by the Empire. Blood red lights illuminated the large battle control area, towards the front of the bridge on a high platform the command chair dominated the space. The walls were covered with screen displays, and various consoles, each one equipped with full weapons control.
“Is the fleet in position?” Gorak demanded, taking his place in high platform chair.
“Awaiting your command General,” First Officer Ch'Pok reported.
“Inform then to set course for the Federation boarder, but do not cross into Federation space!”
Ch’Pok bared the commands to the relevant officers, then turned his focus back to his General.
“You plan to blockade the Federation?”
Gorak nodded his head very slowly; “I will not allow anymore Federation scum to enter our mighty Empire”
Ch’Pok was silent for a few moments; he shifted his eyes to look at various members of the bridge company.
“Speak!” Gorak demanded, “Look at me, not them!”
“General, with deepest respects, the Federation have been our allies for a long time, we have thought along side them with honour.”
“And were the Federation showing honour when they attacked the homeworld?” Gorak demanded, “were they showing honour when the cowards disguised their ships so not to face us?”
“General, the Federation deny all knowledge of these events, if we blockade their space, it will only led to war.”
“COWARD!” Gorak bellowed, jumping down from his chair, “a true Klingon warrior does not fear going to war, he relishes the opportunity to kill the enemies of the Empire!”
“A true Klingon warrior would not dishonour himself by plunging the Empire into a war it cannot win,” Ch’Pok protested. It was the last thing he said, seconds later his body lay dead at the feet of General Gorak, disrupter in hand.
“Does anyone else wish to question my honour?” he yelled at the crew around him, none were brave enough to answer.
“You Divok,” Gorak said, walking towards a young officer, “do you wish to question my honour?”
Divok looked nervously around at his fellow shipmates, uncertain how to answer.
“Look at me when I speaking to you,” Gorak cursed, as he slapped the young male around the face, causing him to fall to the deck, “I have no place on my bridge for cowards, go report to the Plasma Maintenance Chief, as the new hull scrubber!”
Disgraced in the eyes of all around him, Divok left the bridge as quickly as possible.
“Anyone else?” Gorak yelled, circling the bridge, when no one answered, he returned to his chair.
“Set course for the Federation boarder, and engage maximum speed!”

Briefly, surprise clearly registered on Sonak's face, but after that her face was once more the impassive mask it had been before. She readily accepted command back, but didn't move from her current seat. "Do please sit down admiral," she replied, beckoning him towards the seat he had just vacated. "I appreciate receiving command back, but clearly you are the expert here. I would appreciate any advice you can offer whenever you deem it necessary."
She turned to her Chief of Operations. "Commander Meylor, status of the Klingons?"
<Meylor>
She nodded at the response, then glanced at Vander. "At present I would suggest keeping up patrol in this area. Commander Fox, prepare to jump to high warp, preset a course to the Klingon Neutral Zone but do not enter it just yet into your console. Lieutenant Jacobson, make sure our engines can take the sudden jump. Commander Reckus, prepare sickbay for casualties, specifically Klingon casualties. Security, make sure weapons are working at top efficiency. Commander Martens, status of cloaking device and MVAM?"
<anyone>
"Very good. Now, can we get back in contact with our Klingon friend? Commander Kanz, Ensign McVaye, work together on this. I want a report on my desk by 20:00 this evening."
<Kanz/McVaye>

Fox nodded as Sonak asked to preset the course.
"Aye, Ma'am" he replied "Will do it after this briefing."
<After the meeting> Fox walked onto the bridge, went to the helm console.
"You can go now." he said to the navigation officer sitting there. "I'll take over again."
The officer spinned his chair around and replied "Ok, Sir" then he got up and left the bridge.
Fox sat down in the chair and turned to the Helm console tabbing the buttons on it, presetting a course to the Klingon Neutral Zone. When he was done he spun around again telling Sonak the preset was ready.
Two hours later Fox' duty shift ended. An other officer took his place as he stood up and walked off the bridge to his quarters. After he entered it a console lit up, telling him there was a message for him.
"Computer play message" he ordered.
It appeared to be from Wendy. A smile appeared on his face when he heard her voice. He sat down behind the console and tried to contact Wendy, but it seemed she wasn't available so he left a message and smiled, thinking {Hope to hear from her soon.}
Sitting there a little longer he felt his stomach rumble and decided to get something to eat. He left his quarters and walked to the Mess Hall. There he ordered something and sat down at a table, placed the plate in front of him and began to eat.

"Is he the concerned general he appears to be, or is there more going on than he lets on?"
L'Ola thought for a moment, "I'm not sure that he's telling us everything he knows, but it's unlikely that he'd appear weak unless he had to."
"Meaning?" Sonak inquired.
"Meaning either he is so worried that he can't hide it, or he needs you to think of him that way. Showing that much weakness in front of his crew would not normally be a good idea."
At the end of the meeting she started discussing ideas with Daniel. "I think we need more information about what's been going on at their end."
He nodded in agreement, "That would be good if we could get it. Beyond that we're working on intuition and information from a few sensor readings. Any chance you can get inside information?"
"Not sure" L'Ola replied, "I could ask a couple of people but they aren't exactly influential or willing to talk."
<OOC: Sorry it's not much, I'm kind of busy at the minute>

Vander sat back down in the chair, nodding to Sonak appreciatively.
He listened to Commander Kanz's analysis. "So basically what you're saying Commander is that either he's worried about the whole truth getting out, or he's bluffing and wants us to think he's hiding something to scare us."
She nodded. "In essence sir, yes."
"Well then, we'll see how that goes. In the mean time Commander, there is something else I need you and Lt Jacobson to do. Fortunately, we managed to eventually destroy the Klingon invasion fleet. I need you two to beam aboard samples of the debris and analyze, and tell us whether we're actually dealing with Klingons or not."
Both Kanz and Jacobson nodded.
=/\= Bridge to Admiral Vander. We've just recieved the General Gorak and a sizeable Fleet have gathered along their side of the Klingon Neutral Zone =/\=
=/\= Acknowledged =/\= He turned to Commodore Sonak. "We're going to head out to meet them. Fortunately, we won't be alone. I've arranged a small Fleet of my own, comprised of 3 Akira-classes and 6 Defiant-classes. Commander Martens, I'll ask you to be my Fleet Liaison Officer, responsible for communicating with the Fleet, and coordinating necessary efforts. Once Kanz and Jacobson have their samples, whenever you're ready, Commodore, I'll ask Commander Martens to signal the Fleet and we'll be underway. They can analyze it en-route."

Sonak nodded her agreement and preceded the admiral onto the bridge. While she was back in command she still felt it disprespectful if she were to take her own seat and let the admiral sand. Therefor, she moved to the next available seat on the command bench. As soon as Jacobson and Kanz reported that their samples for analysis were aboard, she gave Fox the order to set course for the Klingon Neutral Zone.
A small batallion of ships was coming with them, and Sonak was quite grateful for that, because one Somma class vessel alone, no matter how technically advanced, could take on an entire Klingon battle force, and live to tell the tale. She watched the main screen as Earth slowly faded from view, and the Vesuvius jumped to warp after leaving the Sol system.
The starfield at warp had a soothing effect and Sonak felt increasingly tired. Lately she hadn't had much sleep for several reasons. Little Shanna had fallen ill, and her sleep was still troubled with nightmares. Many a night she found herself sitting up in bed, cold sweat running down her spine. Fortunately, Jatan took really good care of their youngest child and she was quickly improving on health. It appeared that she had caught a children's disease from one of the other children in he daycare centre, and it was nothing incurable.
She closed her eyes for a moment, feeling that she should at least be able to just relax for a short moment. It would be hours until they would reach the border.
Klingons were firing on the Federation fleet, slowly and gradually destoying every one of the Akira and Defiant class vessels. They were picking up signals of people being transported, taken prisoner before the ships were completely destroyed.
She watched in horror as the Klingons turned on the lone vessel left to witness the scene: the Vesuvius. Surprisingly, the Klingons didn't show so much as a scratch, their ships were not damaged at all.
"Target their shield array, fire!" Sonak screamed over the noise of the red alert claxon, that blared over the bridge." The ship shook violently when the Klingons returned fire.
"Shields are gone," Meylor reported from OPS. The young Bajoran looked tired, and pale. "They are beaming people off....children! They're taking the children!"
"No!" Sonak screamed, pointing at the main screen. "Get them back and destroy those ships!"
"Can't, weapons are offline."
"Bridge to engineering get us-" The ship shook again, and finally one last giant explosion was seen from a great distance as the USS Vesuvius exploded.
Sonak felt herself being shaken, and she slapped whoever was shaking her away. With a gasp she sat upright, looking around in bewilderment. "Oh no," she muttered, looking extremely pale, cold sweat running down the side of her face. "Oh no, this is..." Her voice faltered, as she no longer was sure what was happening. She wondered whether it was just a dream, or a vision, as she knew she was nowhere near spychic. She'd never had visions before, nor was she very likely to have anytime soon. ~so what was this?~ she wondered, as she sat shaking in her seat.

The office work was boring. Daniel stretched his arms and yawned, looking at the time. The briefing was about to commence. He got up, leaving a report behind on his desk as he exited his office. The gray corridors were the same as ever, and the turbolift wasn't more exiting.
I guess this is just a bad day, Daniel thought. A strange feeling had befallen Daniel since admiral Vander'd come aboard, yet he still couldn't place what it exactly was. The elevator's doors opened and showed the bridge. Daniel got out and headed to the briefingroom.
Daniel only took in half of the material thrown at him at the briefing, yet the conversation between admiral Vander and general Gorak had gotten his full attention. The Klingon's stubbornness, which Gorak preferred to call 'honor', was nowhere near open minded.
Daniel was ordered to work on the contact together with commander Kanz. They discussed for a short while. "It won't be easy to obtain information from their side," Daniel said. L'Ola nodded. They pondered a little while longer, but then L'Ola was called off.
Daniel decided not to meddle with affairs too much, and walked onto the bridge to oversee the situation. He picked up how Gorak had laid out a small fleet to welcome them, and how admiral Vander decide to face them, alongside a few other starships.
The trip was going to take longer than Daniel'd expected. He still had a report to finish, so he went back to his office. He booted his desktop computer. A message popped up. It was from lieutenant Amasova, requesting a session. Wow, unbelievable! Daniel thought, they still exist: people that do not forget that a counselor is always there for them. He smiled, and made a mental note to contact her right after his lunch break.
Daniel wasn't hungry, so instead of spending his lunchtime in the messhall, he went to his quarters and sank down onto his bed. "Computer wake me when my break is over," he ordered. *Acknowledged.* He closed his eyes, and fell asleep without realizing it.
A soft breeze played with his hair, as Daniel looked over a lake. The trees that sporadically covered the sides of the lake waved gently in the wind. The sun shone bright above his head, yet was nowhere near incinerating. Daniel dropped himself in the grass, and stared at the sky above.
He felt her softly touching his arm as she lay down next to him, gently pressing her warm body against his. Daniel felt happy, a feeling he hadn't had for a long time. He looked at her, and saw why he'd fallen in love. But the sky above didn't grant him his moment for long, as dark clouds gathered, and lightening tore through the air.
Drops of rain came down, little at first, but increasing rapidly. Daniel got up, and looked around but saw that she was gone. A blinding lightening bolt crashed into the middle of the lake, expanding into a wall of bright light. Daniel shielded his eyes, but when he removed his hands again, the scene had changed.
The ship shook violently, and Daniel tried to stay on his feet. He heard commands being yelled, and the viewscreen showed a massacre. Wrecks of destroyed Federation Akiras and Defiants littered the battlefield. Klingon ships agilely curved through the devastation, and appeared to be heading for the ship.
Daniel's eyes widened, as a battery of torpedoes came at the viewscreen with magnificent speed. The last seconds seemed to take hours. The torpedoes slammed into the ship, and viewscreen shattered before Daniel's eyes. A magnificent ball of energy coming at him was the last thing Daniel could recall.
Daniel's eyes snapped open. He found himself sweating, and he needed to draw a few deep breaths before he was able to get a grip on reality again. Just then the computer started whining about his lunchtime being over. Daniel got up and went to the bathroom, where he put his head under a cold stream of water.
He looked in the mirror, and saw how aged he looked compared to how old he really is. He shook his head, and went on his way to his quarters, where he turned on his desktop computer again. He sent lieutenant Amasova a message that he was available now, or that she should stop by to make an appointment. Daniel leaned back, and sighed. Something is not right, something is not right.

As soon as Jacobson and Kanz reported that their samples for analysis were aboard, she gave Fox the order to set course for the Klingon Neutral Zone. "Yes Ma'am" Fox replied and spun around on his chair facing this console again and tabbed some buttons. "Course is set. Leaving earths orbit now." he said. "Engage." Sonak replied. Fox tabbed another button, outside the nacelles lit up with a blue glow as the Vesuvius left the Sol system. <Some time later> "Approaching destination." Fox called, he let the Vesuvius drop out of warp and switched to impulse engines. "Sensors are picking up klingon ships in the area." someone called. Immidiately the view on the main screen changed and showed several of them. "Their shields are raised and weapon systems are ready." "Raise shields. Hail the leading ship." was called. The Akira and Deviant class ships also raised their shields. "They're not responding to the call." was replied a little later. As this was said a phaser shot closely passed the Vesuvius' saucer and hit one of the deviant class ships. The second phaser shot didn't miss. It hit the Vesuvius near the saucer, the whole [word deleted] trembled. "Return fire, disable their weapon and propulsion systems only." was called. All ships fired their phaser at the Klingon vessels trying to disable those systems. "Fox evade their phaser shots." As the same moment more phaser shot were being fired by the Kligons ships. "Aye." he replied. "Evasive pattern omega-174." several shots missed, but one hit near port side nacelles making the ship shake again. "Shields are holding." was reported. "Evasive pattern beta-105." Fox said loud. This time all the phaser shots went past the Vesuvius. An Akira vessel on the Vesuvius' starboard side reported that their shields were gone. A second later it exploded. Some escape pods were visible, but too little for a whole crew. "Beam those people onboard." was called over the bridge. "Aye." was called back. Not much later several officers of that Akira vessel appeared in the transporter rooms. Another series of phaser fire was being shot at the Vesuvius, now hitting it near the main section. "Shields down to 87%." was reported. Again Fox layed in a new evasive pattern. "Pattern gamma-212." he called. Some shots totally missed, others just passed the ship.
