Briefing: Each department will have a go at running drills for their department, treating the other senior staff as complete newbies if needed. The person whose turn it is has two weeks to run their scenario, in which everyone not on LOA is expected to participate. Order of scenario's: - Nack - medical
- Fox - Science/culinary
- L'Ola - Security/Tactical
- Teyno - Civillian
- Meylor - Operations
- Logan - Engineering
- Claire - counseling
- Nick - Intelligence?
- Sonak - command (possibly together with Nick)
Did I miss anyone? I'll put up the first post calling the briefing shortly..in a separate post.

After a enjoying a few days of leave aboard Bellicose, and welcoming back an old crewmember, Sonak believed now was the time to gather her senior staff and get the ordered drills over with. In the mean time, repairs to the ship were progressing well on schedule, though Sonak had to put questions to the capability of Commanders Martens and Byrne in working together.
So far, the two men seemed to get their work done in time, but on very rare occasions they actually worked together on something. ~perhaps the ordered drills will change that, and create more unity among my crew~ she thought as she walked onto the bridge.
"Commander Meylor, please send a message to all senior staff to report in the briefing room in one hour. And please make it clear that I will not tolerate latecomers, and if they do manage to arrive late they will face three days of brig time, and a note on their records."
Without awaiting Meylor's reply, and ignoring L'Ola's surprised glance, she marched off the bridge and into the primary briefing room. She had some work to prepare, and decide who would run the first drill scenario. With Logan and Nick busy in engineering neither were a very logical choice to start, and since L'Ola was still busy sweeping the ship she wasn't a good choice either. Fox, she felt needed to get his attentions honed first since she had discovered he'd been slacking in the science department. Trey had moved off the Vesuvius, leaving the SMO position vacant, much to L'Ola's delight it seemed.
"Nack," she murmured, glancing over her senior staff manifest, "yes he is the perfect choice. Gives me the opportunity to observe his command abilities, as well as his people skill."
Sonak looked up when the first of her senior staff were walking in, and when finally everyone had arrived, she opened their meeting. "As you all know, Starfleet has ordered us to undergo a series of departmentally run drills, before we are ordered towards Earth for interrogations, for unknown reason I might add. Commander Nack, you have been selected to run the first drill scenario. You will hand in your guidelines to each senior staff member by 0800 tomorrow morning, upon which every member will report to your designated area at your designated time. Your ability to run this drill will be evaluated, but every other staff member, including Commander Martens and myself, will be evaluated in their participation. Failure to participate will result in a reprimand on your permanent record. Any questions?"

Interrogations?! Surely it wasn't because of anything he had done. Nack's worrisome look turned to petrified, as he was caught off guard with Sonak's request for him to start the Drills.
Nack protested. "Commodore, permission to speak freely."
Sonak nodded.
"I believe I am a bad choice to go first with drills. I have never been in charge of leading drills before," Nack's eyes looked upward in thought, ", which also means I haven't failed of course..." Nack came back to his point, "but, wouldn't it be wise to have a more experienced officer go first?"
"Are you telling me you are not prepared, Doctor?"
"... I... I... never said that.." Nack knew he was not going to get anywhere with this argument. "Have everyone report to sickbay tomorrow," Nack glanced a quick shot at Logan, "if the path there is cleared by then." The Doctor was not particularly angry about the littered entryway to sickbay, as he was angry at the events that took place the last time he was in Logan's company. Logan didn't seem to register the anger, and Nack's cynical statement was lost.
"We will start drills at oh-six-hundred hours. Commodore, Commander," Nack looked at Sonak and Nick respectively, "I expect you two to be there as well."
Both acknowledged. Nack excused himself. The feeling of fear in him subsided as he walked back to sickbay to prepare. It was now more a feeling of pride and bigness, knowing that he was in charge.
Arriving, Nack started barking orders. "Alice... Gather all the spare med kits. We are a go as of tomorrow morning."
Alice shook her head. The power trip the Ferengi was on was going to get him into trouble. She just knew it.
OOC: If everyone would now kindly post themselves into sickbay relatively quick, I would be much obliged. It doesn't have to be anything major, just let me know you are alive.

"Commander Meylor, please send a message to all senior staff to report in the briefing room in one hour. And please make it clear that I will not tolerate latecomers, and if they do manage to arrive late they will face three days of brig time, and a note on their records."
Meylor looked up from intense concentration on his console, and took a moment to digest the order. "Aye-aye, ma'am." Moving to the commmunications board at Kanz's station, Meylor noticed her surprised glance, then proceeded to open the intercom and announce the order. Having done that particular duty, he muttered under his breath to the security chief as he checked how the diagnostic on the ship-to-ship comm was proceeding. "Don't worry about the Commodore; she's just trying to run a tight ship for when it comes time to face the top brass."
Kanz answered in similarly hushed tones. "No kidding, but just what is it we're all getting ready for? An official inquiry? Reassignment? The Vesuvius getting mothballed? Nobody seems to know anything definite, and a lot of rumors are beginning to circulate. And I know you haven't been around to find out, but Nick and Logan might even be subject to court-martial for their actions on the last mission. Our efforts to return to grace might end being nothing more than shifting deck chairs around on the Titanic."
Meylor raised his eyebrows in mild alarm and bemusment. "Like I said, don't worry. We've all gotten out of tighter spots before, and most of them with the Commodore right behind us all the way. Whatever happens, we're still a crew, no matter where we serve."
<one hour later in the Briefing Room>
Sonak looked up when the first of her senior staff were walking in, and when finally everyone had arrived, she opened their meeting. "As you all know, Starfleet has ordered us to undergo a series of departmentally run drills, before we are ordered towards Earth for interrogations, for unknown reason I might add. Meylor spoke up. "Forgive my ignorance, but just what do these `drills` entail? I'm afraid I'm not up on current protocol...yet."

~briefingroom~
"Forgive my ignorance, but just what do these `drills` entail? I'm afraid I'm not up on current protocol...yet."
Sonak cast her COO a sympathetic look. "You have missed quite a lot Commander Meylor," she told him, "we have been ordered to perform drills since starfleet command believes we cannot function as a unit, and instead seem to function as loose individuals. Thus these drills are to make sure we learn to work together in time of need, and perhaps learn something from it as well. Each department will run a series of...practical issues for others to participate in, thereby hopefully creating a feeling of unity."
~next morning~
Sonak woke up at 5am, turned to caress jatan's cheek then stepped out of bed in one fluid motion. After a quick shower, breakfast and a cup of coffee, she was ready to report to sickbay for the medical drill. Being a medical officer by training herself, she didn't believe it should prove too difficult for her. This could possibly mean she could devote more time to others and help them along.
At 6am sharp, she walked into sickbay and waited for the rest to show themselves. "What have you planned for us doctor?" she asked, as she approached the smaller chief medical officer.

Nack paced anxiously. "Where is everyone? I told them oh-six-hundred hours!"
"It's five-fifty, Doctor." Alice said cringing, unsure if it was wise to correct the doctor in his condition.
"It's like what they say on Ferenginar... The early merchant gets the latinum." Nack was still pacing.
"Isn't it the early bir... never mind."
Nack ignored her. As he was about to slap his combadge, Sonak walked in. Nack looked at his wrist, as if a timepiece was there to show tardiness, and then back up at his commanding officer.
The Commodore didn't see the need to engage the Doctor so early in the morning, and simply asked what the duties for the day were.
"Well, if truancy prevails, I have a decent set of tasks for the crew." Nack walked over to the computer monitor, depressurizing his temper with each step.
"First, we are going to give everyone a crash course on med-kit first aid. Most people know the hypospray bit, however, there are some techniques for administering these that I would like to go over, and test everyone on. I am sure you will be fine, Commodore." Nack just made the connection that Sonak was medically trained, which caused him to sweat from his bald head.
"Here, I made a holodeck simulation of a crisis situation. Our crew will be handling a large number of patients, and will have to create a basic triage system. This would most likely be their role if such a thing did occur anyway. They should already be trained to respond this way."
"And, I think finally, I would like to administer a short quiz on alien physiology and common medicinal treatments." Nack seemed rather pleased with himself. The Holodeck simulation itself would take a full day, and the quizzes and med-kit usage another."
Nack finished in a smile, which he quickly turned upside down when he realized it was 06:05 and only Sonak was present aside from Alice.

Nick and the rest of the Sr. Staff stood in sickbay waiting for Nack and Sonak. They snickered to themselves about how he hadn't specified which sickbay the meeting was to be in. Rumors of Nacks time sensitivity had been circulating around the ship and they sought to test it out.
Nick looked at his time piece, it stated 6:10 and he just smiled to himself.
"3-2-1," he muttered aloud and like clockwork their combadges activated with a message from the Doctor.
=/\= All Sr. Staff are to report to sickbay immediately. Expediency is the key people.=/\=
Nick held out his hand and the others put a strip of latinum on it. Meylor looked particularly dejected.
"I was so sure it would be at 6:08," he shook his head and followed the crew towards the door."
"Hold up everybody, we've got one more thing to do," Nick stated cryptically. He hit his combadge in reply.
"Doc, this is Nick. We're in sickbay," he looked at L'Ola who stifled a giggle. He could just see the Ferengis' blood pressure just sky rocketing.
=/\=What!?=/\= came Nacks puzzled reply.
"Sometimes it's hard to remember which sickbay you're supposed to go to, being that we have three. You just gotta tell us which one and we'll be there," he calmly stated.
=/\=Main sickbay. Make it quick commander. Nack out.=/\=
~~a few minutes later~~
The remainder of the staff entered the main sickbay to find Nack buzzing around the room. Upon seeing them he started passing out med kits and began his lecture on hypo-spray safety.
"First check your dosage, last thing you want to do is kill them with an overdose," they all checked their dosage, in this case it was sedative." Next place the hypo spray against the patients neck or shoulder and press the button on the top."
Nick pressed his hypospray into his shoulder to check the motion and bumped the button. A soft hiss was heard and his world began swimming.
Nack looked over at the XO and shook his head. A little fairy was seated on his shoulder smiling at everyone in the room, and a little dwarf was polishing everyones boots. And then the world went black with a thud.

Everyone stood around, staring at Nack, as if to say "What are you going to do?" As far as Nack was concerned, he got what he deserved. They all knew what he meant by sick bay. As far as he was concerned, he deserved at least a 10%... nay, 20% commission on the bets that took place on his actions. Nack took a slip of latinum left exposed in Nick's side pocket. Nobody noticed.
It was just a sedative. The only pain the First Officer might feel is the bump on his head from hitting the console on the way down. Dr. Nack did not panic. Instead, he turned to Commander Meylor, since nobody else seemed to be attentive.
Commander Meylor, what do you suggest we do?
<Meylor>
Nack watched the new Chief Operations Officer tend to Nick, while Sonak fiddled with the new hypospray model she had given Nack a few weeks past.
"That thing is pretty neat. I've never needed to use it yet, though."
L'ola helped Meylor move Nick to a bed.
"Ok, crew. If you want to be successful at these drills, you are going to have to participate more." Nack said, eying those who had not spoke since Drills began. Logan had skirted the Medical drills, by orders from the Admiral, and was not present. Everyone counted him lucky.
"Alice, do you have the holodeck program queued up?"
Alice looked dumbfounded. "You... you never told .. me.."
"It's ok, it's ok" Nack blushed in embarrassment, "go ahead and do that now." Alice scurried off.
"Just a short delay until our next part of the Drills. I think everyone should use this time to brush up on their triage skills."
Nack grabbed his hypospray from the Commodore's hands, accidentally doing it forcibly. Embarrassed again, Nack apologized. "I'm just a bit agitated, that's all. It appears nobody respects the Doctor here."OOC from the CO: Meylor's a Bajoran hence he'd be addessed as Commander Meylor, Paht being his first name. And last time I checked my name is still Sonak on this ship.

"Just a short delay until our next part of the Drills. I think everyone should use this time to brush up on their triage skills." Fox looked over a list of medical scenarios Nack had provided to all and tried to sort all the cases in their right category. After a little while he handed a pad to Nack. "There you go doctor, i think they're all in the right category." Nack looked at him "that was quick commander" he answered and took the pad and put it on his desk, walking to the others first to see how they were doing. Fox looked around sickbay while Nack was going through the pad. He didn't like sickbay's. He had already spent too much time in them on his previous ships, recovering from severe injuries. Finally, it had seemed like forever to Fox because he was going through sickbay memories, Nack gave the pad back to Fox. <Nack>

Sonak turned the new hypospray over and over in her hands, trying to find the activation button. It looked sleeker than the previous but obviously new uses had need of a manual. She watched in amusement as Nick collapsed onto the deck, obviously having shot home something other than an isotonic saline solution.
Confident that there would be no suck trick played on her, she pressed the hypo against her arm, after finally having located the activation switch. She heard the tell-tale hiss of fluid being injected and felt the brief pressure of it as well. Nothing happened subsequently so she moved on to ordering the med-kit as was ordered and made sure that everything was accounted for before handing the PADD to Nack. She was still holding the hypospray in her hand as he approached.
Nack grabbed his hypospray from the Commodore's hands, accidentally doing it forcibly. Embarrassed again, Nack apologized. "I'm just a bit agitated, that's all. It appears nobody respects the Doctor here."
She glanced down at him in surprise as the medical item was yanked from her grasp, as though she wasn't supposed to handle it. "Easy there doctor, I do not bite," she softly chided him, knowing he'd hear. "There is no need to be agitated, doctors generally are not liked because they tend to get associated with something unpleasant." She nodded towards the science chief. "Commander Fox looks a bit pale around the nose, perhaps we should nominate him as our patient to...play with?"

Alice came into the room, and gave Nack a nod. Nack wrapped up his speech on medical ethics. Any other ethical situation would be a blurry topic for the Ferengi, but medicine - that was something where Nack actively avoided his instincts.
"Alright. I think we are ready for the holodeck. Alice, can you lead everyone down there... I wouldn't want anyone to get lost." Nack knew his drill was not top priority for everyone. He told himself that he was going to drag his feet in everyone else's as a payback. The Commodore played along, seemingly happy.
Arriving at the holodeck, Alice started the simulation, and left. Nack walked in first, with the rest in tow.
"This simulation will give you a somewhat realistic view of what an extreme medical emergency would be like. I took the liberty of creating a brand new bridge, a design that does not exist yet."
"and probably never will with the nav console missing." someone said. Nack didn't hear, luckily.
"In a moment, there will be an accident," Nack went to the arch "Computer, queue crew." There were about 15 people on the large bridge.
"When the explosions are through, we will be the team that comes to their rescue. Now, not every one of you are experienced in the microsurgeries some of the wounded require. Commodore Sonak, you would normally be aboard your own ship, with Nick here leading the away team... however, I don't think it would hurt to brush up on your medical skills. You can join me in organization of the triage teams."
Nick still looked a bit out of it, but was up for continuing with the training.
"The rest of you will be organizing the wounded, scanning them for signs of survivability. The computer is programmed to create a 20% death rate. Each simulation, however, will yield different problems with different crew. You cannot save everyone, therefore, you must save the savable. Everyone understand?" Everyone nodded uneventfully.
"You must verbally diagnose the patient, which will cue the computer of your decisions. In a normal situation, the doctors on staff would perform surgeries on those you recommend."
With that, Nack started the simulation "Computer - start simulation alpha 3 -4, difficulty level EASY"
Nack winked at Sonak. This was going to be interesting.

The idea of a medical drill had actually appealled to L'Ola. During her science training she'd taken quite an interest in the medical side of things, and had even at one stage considered taking the extra training. Now she thought about it, there were a lot of things that she'd never quite got round to doing. Something to remedy later.
So standing on a holodeck, armed with a medical tricorder and a handful of hyposprays wasn't the worst thing ever. She crouched down by the first 'injured crewman' she got to. "Okay, definitely got a pulse, and yep he's breathing. It's a little shallow but it's there. Looks like the wounds are okay to leave for now, nothing major internally." She put a tag on his wrist, "We'll get back to you later when we've checked the others" she told him, in case he was listening.
Moving on to the next patient she caught sight of Nick entering the room out the corner of her eye. Obviously recovered from the medication, L'Ola had the sneaking suspicion he was contemplating knocking himself out again. The idea of helping a group of injured holograms didn't appeal as much to him, apparently.
"This guy's unconcious and it looks like he may have internal injuries" she carried on doing scans and checks ~ Knock yourself out again and I will not be impressed. ~
~ And what are you going to do about it it I do? ~
She smirked, ~ Oh I don't think you want to know that. Look, if this whole thing is annoying you so much then you can always help me with my patient. Team work and all that... ~
As she finished the checks and looked up again, she saw Nick had walked over in her direction. "Need a hand?" he asked, grinning.

Nack and Sonak stood off to the side as the final simulation ended. The padd in Sonak's hand recorded the results of the holodeck simulation after its 32nd run. Nick was dripping with sweat, and L'ola looked as if she was going to pass out.
Nack looked over the shoulder of Sonak, jumping a bit to get a view of the padd. The summary at the top of the screen, which was all he could see, stated that someone had failed the simulation.
"It appears someone has failed the simulation." Nack said, indignant that someone had not tried hard enough.
Sonak was about to speak, but Nack cut her off.
"You are Starfleet officers. You were trained in this before, why is this so hard?"
The officers began to protest, as all of them had tried rather hard, and felt as if the simulation was rigged for failure. Sonak was trying to nonchalantly get Nack's attention, but he kept into his tirade.
"I programmed this simulation to be similar to the worst possible situation that we could be in. There is definitely no possible way this simulation was flawed."
Sonak was tapping Nack on the shoulder. He turned around, "WHAT!..", recognizing his tone, he changed inflection, "I mean... what, Commodore?"
Sonak didn't say anything, she just showed the padd to Nack. He had seen that one person had failed. What he didn't see, just below, was that the computer had flagged Dr. Nack as the failure.
"Well.. that's ... that's impossible." Nack looked at the rest of the crew, who figured out what was going on simply from the sense of irony emanating throughout the room.
"HEh.. I mean, every program has its flaws, right? I mean seriously, I didn't do everything I could because I was trying to oversee you guys." Nack's pleas were ignored, as people slowly filtered out of the holodeck, exhausted.
"Wait comrades... I mean.. crew.. I really didn't really mean what I said about.." but it was too late. The only person left to hear him was Commodore Reckus.
<Commodore>
"Thanks for being understanding. These last few days have been really rough, considering the lack of participation on the part of the rest of the crew. I appreciate your help in all of this."
Nack's request to be excused was granted, and he left for his sickbay. If only the ship's counselor had been aboard, he would go see her right now. "Perhaps Alice would be consoling." he thought, as he entered his office and sat down his chair, allowing his large forehead to make a thud on the desk. His drill was a success... but he couldn't help feeling like a complete failure.

Together with the rest of the officers Fox left the holodeck. Exhausted and a bit shocked of everything he had seen today. Nack had made the simulation very realistic, he had seen medical situations he had hoped never to see.
He wandered a bit through the corridors of the ship, on his way to his quarters. He knew very well that now Nack had ended his drill he would be next. But first some well earned rest. Finally he stood before the doors of his quarters and entered.
Inside he walked immediately to the replicator and ordered a cup of coffee, black. Then he went over to a chair and sat down, taking a sip from the coffee and then put the cup down on the table close by.

Sonak stared at the PADD in her hand in disbelief. How could the person running the scenario fail? A person could not fail his own department, it was unheard of. Surely computer assessment made a mistake on this? She watched the chief medical officer depart the holodeck, then called L'Ola Kanz back.
"I had intended on the science department running the next drill however I have noticed that with so many new staff they are not fit to run one just yet. You are up next to run a security drill...and please make it worth our while?"
(Kanz)
"You have until 0800 tomorrow to come up with a workable scenario," she told her CTSO, then retired to her quarters for the evening. She let Jatan massage her shoulders as she sat down to check her messages. There was one from Elron that she knew would lift a certain someone's spirits. Smiling, she pointed out the message to Jatan.
"Yes that'll boost his dented confidence," Jatan grinned in response. "Be easy on the poor guy my wife," he teased, "it's bad enough he thought he was going to get booted when you promoted him. He's scared enough as it is."
Sonak smiled, then tapped her combadge. "Doctor Nack, please report to my quarters." She tapped her combadge again. "Commander Byrne, status report...I want to know when my ship is fit to fly again!"
(Nack/Byrne)
When Nack finally arrived, Sonak handed him a PADD. "Perhaps this will boost your confidence a little," she said softly, "you have been approved as acting first officer aboard the USS Victory. You are to transfer there at your earliest convenience."
(Nack)

"Commander Meylor, what do you suggest we do?"
As he watched Nick fall, Meylor's eyes widened in surprise; what was going on here? Was this all part of the drill, or was something actually amiss with their first officer. Nick had certainly fallen down rather convincingly. Whatever the case might be, Meylor immediately began gingerly lifting Nick's limp body, L'Ola came over to help him, and together they set their patient on the nearest biobed. When the sensors in its top surface detected the new occupant, the biobed's status display instantly snapped on, and lifesign readings began to appear.
Satisfied that Nick's readings were stable for the moment, Meylor asked L'Ola "Alright, it looks like he's not in serious condition; according to this, he's only been exposed to a mild sedative in his bloodstream. In addition, he sustained a small bruise to the left side of his head when he fell. If I remember right, we can treat the bruise with a vascular regenerator, and the sedative condition with a mild stimulant and run a plasma scan to filter out the foreign substance from his bloodstream." Meylor had been feeling rather uncertain about all this, but the guideline from his Academy first aid courses were coming back to him.
L'Ola, seemigly unperturbed by anything, retrieved a medical tricorder from the instument cart next to the bed, and began running a thorough scan of Nick's cardiovascular system. "First, Commander, we should probably do this more intensive scan, focusing on the bloodstream, to confirm the precise nature of the foreign substance and all effects it may be having on the patient. The biobed scanner can only pick up so much; when a foreign substance is involved a somewhat more detailed scan is recommended. See?" She held up the tricorder for Meylor to read, and Meylor quickly understood what she meant.
Apparently the sedative was having an unexpected side effect on Nick's physiology; since he was Tandaran, his bloodstream worked with great efficiency to filter out such foreign material from his bloodstream, depositing the material in special section of his liver where certain enzymes were meant to recycle the material into usable cytoplasm. Problem was, this particular sedative couldn't be broken down in the normal manner by Nick's liver, causing the liver functioning to be slowed by the sedative. Suddenly, Meylor realized that removing the sedative quickly was of paramount importance if Nick's condition was to be kept from getting significantly worse. Feeling that nervous flutter in his gut again, Meylor went about setting up the plasma scan. "You saved my butt, Commander, and Nick's liver. Thanks." Commander Kanz simply nodded and carried on.
<later, in the Holodeck>
Meylor found himself with a simulated medkit in hand and a scene great tumult all around. Something buffeted the entire room, seemingly removing the floor under his feet, and Meylor tumbled down hitting his face pretty good. He scrambled for a foothold, got himself up again, and headed for handheld extinguisher clipped to a nearby bulkhead just for emergency situations like this. Apparently, power to the fire suppression fields had been lost, and the combustion of a ruptured EPS relay couldn't be stopped.
The fire was soon robbed of its ignition source as Meylor covered the wall in repellant; however, he hadn't been able to prevent a nearby crewmen from sustaining serious burns to the chest, face, and arms. Meylor didn't need triage rules to tell him that this patient required immediate care, and he tried to call to Sickbay through his commbadge, which he soon discovered was absent, having fallen off during his earlier fall. They've got to invent a better adhesive strip for those things he thought. Now was not the time for idle speculation or for anything else; if he couldn't get his patient to Sickbay (and now it appeared that the comm system was down as well), Meylor would have to do his best to treat the patient here. With nothing more than a medkit and whatever else he could make use of on a wounded Bridge.
He tried not to think about the grotesque burns on his patient's body, or her anguished cries as he went about applying a sedative to ease her pain. He continued with treatment by using a protoplaser to promote tissue healing, and was soon joined by Commander Fox who asked if anything was needed. Meylor shook his head and reported the patient's condition, which was beginning to worsen. Fox promised to find a way to contact, or clear the way to, Sickbay.
<some time later, after the simulation>
Meylor plodded out of the Holodeck and into the corridor alongside everyone else, exhausted from the day's drill and still rather shaken by the harrowing experience of treating seriously wounded patients. He resolved to head straight for bed, bypassing a meal for now. Even though he suspected nourishment would be advisable at this point, he couldn't eat after seeing those burns. A sleep aid and several hours rest sounded like the perfect remedy...

Fox entered Science Lab 1 to get an update on how the departemnt had been running in his absence. He saw Ensign Collins walking back and forth collecting samples and chemicals for the tests that Chief Tanner was carrying out. One of the new recruits was sat watching silently, obviously in awe of the situation.
"Where is Lieutenant Carter?" Fox asked. Someone more qualified should be overseeing the training.
Jamie stopped walking and looked over, trying to hide the grin on his face. "Sickbay, Sir"
"And where is Lieutenant Amasova?"
"Sickbay, Sir"
Ed chuckled at the look on Fox's face, "You're such a helpful source of information, aren't you Jamie. Sir, Jason's only gone to support Katia..."
Nurse Green tried not to laugh at Jason pacing up and down sickbay. "Can I get you something, Lieutenant? Some hot chocolate maybe? Herbal tea?" *Mild sedative?* she added silently.
"No thanks I'm fine."
Again she supressed a giggle, "You can sit down if you want..."
"No thanks, I'm fine"
Doctor Caldwell walked through from the side room. "Okay, Jason, you can come through now. We're all set." He'd wanted to keep the area free of nerves while he checked that the month early wouldn't give any complications.
Katia looked fairly peaceful, but then given she was normally relaxed and she'd been given a little medication this wasn't much of a surprise. "Hey" she greeted Jason happily.
"Hey! You okay?"
She nodded, "Sure, at least I know what's gonna happen this time round..."
"Welcome to the brig, lady and gentlemen." L'Ola sat on top of a console, legs swinging back and forth, as she started the security drill. "The first of the 3 mini security scenarios you must complete starts here. As you can see, Ensign Zenk here has been knocked out on duty."
The Ensign fell back compliantly, causing a few giggles from around the room. L'Ola continued, "Two of our most notorious prisoners have escaped." Yet more giggles as she handed out PADDs given descriptions of Emily and Natasha, two officers-turned-criminals for the day.
"Your challenge, whether you choose to accept it or not, is to recapture the escapees without alarming the civilian population. And remember, these are very resourceful criminals. The longer you leave it, the more technology they can acquire.
Zenk tapped a button and a chime sounded. The door of the next room could be heard to open. "They've now been let loose into the ship" L'Ola explained. "Just a little headstart to make things more realistic. And you can go... NOW"
She motioned to the door and tried not to laugh at her colleagues, who rushed out before grinding to a halt in sync right outside when they realised no one had thought of how to start looking...

Nack sat at his desk, replaying the logs of the medical drill aboard the holideck. "How could I have failed my own training?"
=/\= Lights =/\= was called from the other room, and the lights in the sickbay, as well as the office, came to full intensity.
"Who's there?" Nack shouted.
Startled, Alice came around the corner. "Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't realize you were still here. Did you even go back to your quarters last night? You are in the same place as I left you!"
"I couldn't sleep. I've been going over some files."
Alice yanked the padd out of Nack's hand. "Are you still going over this? You know that the results were not correct. You forgot when you programmed the simulation to have the computer ignore your responses. You weren't being tested, the rest of the crew were."
"Yeah... but I thought I had accounted for that. Apparently not, and now the rest of the crew thinks I'm a failure."
A voice came over the Ferengi's com-badge. =/\= Doctor Nack, please report to my quarters. =/\=
Alice puckered her face, giving a look of pain due to the incoming communique. "Perhaps it did not sit well?"
"I thought she was ok with this? She was the one trying to talk me down from being upset back in the holid--- I don't know wh-- eh! I'm just going to go down there and find out what it is she wants."
Alice patted Nack on the top of his head, as if he was a small child, or perhaps a pet canine. It showed her sympathy, and Nack felt like he needed all the sympathy he could get.
Grooming himself the best he could while walking, Nack arrived at Sonak's quarters. Through the door he could hear the children inside, playing before their bedtime. He chimed the door.
The door opened, and a cheerful Jatan greeted Nack, whose fear turned to curiosity.
"Let me get Son...er.. the Commodore," Jatan winked at his mistake with the formalities.
Sonak came out of a back room, holding Miriya. It had only been a few weeks since her birth, but she was growing rather quickly. Her last checkup, right before the Drills began, had been a positive one.
"Perhaps this will boost your confidence a little," she said softly, "you have been approved as acting first officer aboard the USS Victory. You are to transfer there at your earliest convenience."
Nack took a second to let the words sink in. Surely there was a mistake somewhere. Perhaps the padd said "Nick" and not "Nack". Maybe the Vesuvius's subspace transceiver was disrupted in the gravitation flux on the last mission? Nack was filled with so many emotions, all he could do was hug an astonished Sonak. Jatan laughed at the site, due to the odd height difference.
"I had put in for advanced training, but I never expected this. Apparently Command really does appreciate me, aside from my shortcomings." Nack intended no pun.
Perhaps Alice was right. Maybe he was too tough on himself.
"I... I guess I will go pack." The reality of the position had sunk in, and now the new reality of leaving his sickbay, and new friends, on the Vesuvius hit.
"I am sure going to miss it here," the Doctor said. Trying to sidestep the emotions to follow, Nack tickled underneath Miriya's chin, causing her to giggle.
"I guess I should go, I need to pack! I'll let the USS Victory know that I will take the next available shuttle to their position..."
There was so much to do, Nack couldn't think straight. "I'll have to figure out where their position is, I suppose." Nack left the room. As he went down the hall, Sonak and Jatan could hear him continue to talk aloud of all the things he needed to do to prepare, his voice getting quieter each step.

Sonak and Jatan watched the obviously happy and confused doctor leave. "He'll do just fine," Jatan ensured his wife, "don't you worry about him dear. He'll land on his two feet."
"And possibly trip over them," Sonak chuckled in response, "and then keep apologizing for doing it at that. But yes he will do fine. You know I actually remember the time Captain Cir'Kem was but a mere acting ensign in our security department. Do you remember her?"
Jatan nodded. "The quiet girl with the sharp eyes," he remembered, "she hated much noise, and preferred the quiet above all else."
next morning Sonak watched the security officer drop to the ground, pretending he'd been hit on the head. As her fellow crew scattered to chase the 'criminals', Sonak leaned down to check on the fallen officer first. "Sonak to sickbay, one crewmember to transport to sickbay. Possible head injury." The surprised crewmember disappeared before her eyes and she rose back to her feet, her eyes grossing gaze with L'Ola.
As commanding officer, as well as medical doctor her first priority were the crew and their safety. She would not leave without seeing to injured crew first. When she was back on her feet, she noticed it was only her and L'Ola left in the brig area. Quietly, she pulled out a tricorder and with a look of sheer distaste set her phaser on light stun. She hated weapons and she had no qualms about showing that distaste.
So their criminals were cunning, but she knew her ship like no other, except maybe her first officer and possibly her chief engineer. Setting her tricorder, she homed in on the biosignatures of the two fleeing officers, then she calmly walked out of the brig area without looking back. Outside, she saw Logan and Nick waiting for her. "I am tracking them," she commented, "but we have to find a way to stop them without alerting the families aboard this ship that something is amiss. It would result in a wide-spread fear and chaos. I would suggest we lure them somewhere, a sort of challenge to take us out and then we spring a trap on them. What do you think?"

"You have accomplished a lot in your short time here Doctor."
Nack smiled. Alice was definitely going to be missed. She always was the positive one. She and Jatan both joined Nack in his quarters as he packed.
"I don't think I've been that effective. I mean..."
Jatan cut Nack short.
"Let's see... you treated everyone for injuries when we were blown into the Beta Quadrant, you delivered my child, under extraordinary circumstances." Jatan had a decent sized list. Alice chimed in again.
"Don't forget about socializing with the crew. You probably don't remember the going away party for Lucy, or the party for the Reckus baby."
"Oh, I remember that." Nack's stomach felt queasy at the thought of the drunken state he was in that evening. "That is specifically why I requested there to be NO going away party. I am done with parties." Nack cracked a smile. The truth was, he was not keen on being the center of attention.
The computer console flashed an indication, letting him know that his shuttle for Starbase Assailant was ready.
"I guess this means goodbye." The cliche remark echoed in the quietness of the room. Nack gave Jatan a firm handshake, and Alice a big hug. He would miss them both.
"I already said goodbye to the Commodore, and to the rest of the crew. So - I guess I'm off."
Nack walked off through the docking bay doors. He turned to wave goodbye to Alice, but she was already reporting for the next drill scenario.
"Goodbye" Nack said aloud, symbolically. It was directed toward nobody. He turned and headed toward the dock where his shuttle was waiting for him.

Fox entered Science Lab 1 to get an update on how the departemnt had been running in his absence. Fox was still in Science Lab 1 when he got called to the brig for the security drill. He quickly left and walked to the turbolift. "brig" He said and the lift started moving, making a soft humming sound. Not much later he entered the brig and looked arround. "Seems everyone is here already." he thought. "Ah, good you joined us as well, commander" L'Ola said and started explaining what happened. Fox rushed out after L'Ola's explanation already having an idea how to track them. He ran to Science Lab 2 and accessed the internal sensors trying the find the runaway criminals. Soon he had all the bio-signs all over the ship on his console. He figured naturally they wouldn't carry comm-badges so he tried to filter all signs with a comm-badge signal out. Suddenly his console went blank. He walked to another console, trying to do the same, but with the same result... A blank console, only this time the Lights in the Science Lab went off too. "Computer Lights" Fox called. "Unable to comply" the computer responded. "Why?" Fox asked. "Life support systems in Science Labs 2 are shutting down." "Who autorized that?" Fox asked. "Unknown." the computer replied again. Immediately Fox walked to the doors. Atleast where he thought they would be, bumping into a wall first. After a little searching he found the doors, but they didn't open. Fox tried to open them manually. After minutes of pulling he could get them to slide open a little, far enough for him to get through. Fox went through, immediately the doors closed behind him again. Some officers that walked through the corridor looked at him. No doubt they were thinking what he was doing.

After dealing with the suits at StarFleet Command for 2 weeks, Logan was just glad to be back onboard the ship to oversee the repairs and see how much damage the Starbase engineers screwed up his ship. Once aboard, Byrne got hit with an order to supress criminals on the ship and keep all existance from the general populace. Grabbing a phaser from the Security locker, he joined Commander Martens and Commodore Sonak near sickbay. After hearing the reports of attacks near sickbay and the brig, he motioned the command staff to head for the forward section of the Discordia module to set up an ambush for the unknown criminals. Nodding and motioning to Martens, he activated a comm panel on the wall to locate Commander Fox. Once his location highlighted, he activated an active sonar pulse to look for biologic in the rest of the Module. Once the readings came back, Logan forwarded the readings to L'ola. With that, the Commodore split from the group to check on the 'hurt' members in Sickbay.

Trey looked at the time and date on his chrono meter, it had already been three months since his departure from the Vesuvius to follow a lead on the so-called accident which killed his parent. He had always believed that there deaths was no accident and was hoping that his contact would have some info, proving him right. As he sat drinking what seemed to be some beverage a mysterious figure down directly behind him.
“Are you the star fleet officer looking for information on the deaths of the two scientists on Vulcan all these years ago?” cane the question from behind him. “Don’t turn around, we are… I am being watched, if you are drop your data pad o the floor for confirmation”
Trey did as the man instructed and let his data pad hit the floor. “good I don’t have much time it seems like there a making there move so I will transfer the information onto your data pad, it will take a few seconds” said the mysterious man as he scraped the pad of the floor. A few seconds later the pad hit the floor again. “I hope this helps you, I must be on my way and good luck on your search” and with these word the man had disappeared just a quickly as he had appeared. As trey leaned over to pick up his data pad of the floor a pear of feet stopped right in front of it, trey quickly grabbed his pad then looked up to see the face witch accompanied the feet.
“Are you star fleet officer lieutenant trey maverick?” came a most alluring voice. Trey looked up at the young woman.
“A lot of people have been asking me that today” he answered jokingly but the woman’s face remained cold as ice “what if I am” he then replied “then I will have to ask you to come with me” she said as she signal too two other officers, “wow we’ve just met and already you’re asking me out, but regretfully am going to have to turn you down” he said with a smile , “that was not a request lieutenant” she added as she pointed a phaser in his direction.

Marco tried to stop an officer aboard the Vesuvius, but it was no use. He was brushed off at every turn, and told to go back to his quarters. Perhaps he should have worn his uniform. The acting ensign figured since the Vesuvius was docked, he would board wearing informal clothing, and change later.
He wouldn't have been there had Commodore Reckus not contacted him while he was aboard Starbase Conquerer. He took the next shuttle to Bellicose, and here he was... but it was as if he wasn't expected. The Doctor was not about to get discouraged. He checked the panel for main sickbay, and took his time getting there when he found it.
Two oddly clothed figures ran past him in the opposite direction. Marco thought of asking them where he could find Commodore Sonak Reckus, but they were already down the corridor and around the corner by the time he turned around.
The 25 year old Doctor, not having much experience on starships of this caliber, shook his head and laughed to himself. "This is going to be interesting." The only starship he had been on prior was a freighter. The routine on those ships were so monotonous... this was going to be the total opposite it seems.
Arriving in the main sickbay, he found the Chief Medical Officer's office. This was going to be his, as soon as the transfer officially came through. He tossed a can of blood fleas into the waste regenerator unit; the only thing still left from the previous Chief Doctor. The desk was now clean, and waiting to be made his own. He sat down in the big chair, tapped both palms on the top of the desk repetitively, and tried to get the feel for his new assignment.

The Doctor hit his combadge.
=/\= Dr. D'Angelo to Commodore Reckus =/\=
The computer replied. =/\= Unable to comply, communications are offline. =/\=
"Well that explains why nobody has contacted me yet. I've been here almost 6 hours now! I've run out of med-kits to inventory!"
Alice smiled back. She was a younger nurse, and Marco found her very attractive. She had just started her shift, and Marco's boredom had quickly turned to enthusiasm upon sight of her.
After brushing off the Doctor's attempts to captivate her in conversation, she informed him of the current Drills being run.
"Well, I see why nobody is around... It sounds like they are all busy."
*RED ALERT SIGNAL*
The red alert signal sounded, startling Alice closer to Marco, who pretended to be startled to move himself closer to her. "What should we do?" she asked. "I think we should stay here... wait for orders." Marco replied, placing his arm around her shoulder to comfort her.
