The Victory left Starbase Larkwing fast enough to ensure a swift return to Assailant, and a shore leave everyone could use some of, but not so fast as to put any unnecessary strain on the ship. They had left Ambassador Karzi on the station, after making sure that he truly wanted to return to work right away. He did, and Nika could emphasize with that feeling.
The Victory has also overseen the upgrading of the security precautions, something Nika wouldn't have felt comfortable leaving undone. She still felt it was inexcusable that a leading ambassador could simply be kidnapped, but she did receive some satisfaction from being able to set things slightly better.
Nika was still staring at her desk, trying to come up with the words to explain what had happened to her away team to Admiral Lin for her official report, when her navigator informed her that the Victory had arrived. Nika nodded imperceptibly, but did give a vocal acknowledgment of the information.
</\>This is the Captain to all crew. The Victory has arrived at Assailant, and R&R personnel assignments are now in effect. Enjoy your shore leave.</\> The Victory needed far less crew when she was docked, and the R&R assignments accounted for that. Of course, there wasn't really anyone who could take over for Nika, so she continued trying to push words that wouldn't come into making enough sense that she would feel comfortable handing them in as her official report.

The last time he was on the base, he took it upon himself to show the Captain how to play Tongo. While he didn't play as well as his Ferengi kin, he had always fancied that he had been born with some sort of preeminence when it came to the game. Captain Cir'kem, however, proved him wrong as she accidentally reached full consortium before Nack was through teaching the rules. "Embarrassing" was the least word that could describe his feelings. He swore he wasn't going to play a game of Tongo again.
Yet, Nack, as always, found himself flip-flopping on his decisions. While he rarely changed his mind on matters of importance, his opinions constantly reversed direction on trivial matters.
The holodeck program was empty. Vic Fontaine, of whom Yahnie Youngblood had taken great liberties to provide for the crew their previous "shore"leave, sang in the background again as Nack reenacted the Tongo subprogram. The table recreated itself, complete with the replicated whoopee cushion in Nack's seat. He rolled his eyes, partially in anger, partially in remembrance. Joan McCormick, a previous chief medical officer, placed it there as a joke. She was an interesting character, but a bit too young for her position. She was only seventeen, and while mentally and physically capable, she perhaps wasn't emotional ready. Sickbay hadn't been the same, though since she left.
The whoopee cushion was not taken wrongly, although Nack failed to understand the humor in the flagrance of flatulent. Humons were always playing jokes. He was always picked on when he was younger, having humon parents. That was a different story for a different day, though. Nack would simply have to remember to remove it from the programming, as the computer accidentally decided it belonged in the subprogram.
Four Ferengi characters appeared at the table, and Nack was the fifth. "What'dya say we play for replicator rations?" he said, at which he was scoffed.
"Childs play." the holo-ferengi plopped a bar of latinum on the table. "How many slips does this get me?"
It was ironic, but typical, for Nack to have something happen like being shown up by his own programming. He wished someone 'real' would come and play. At least they had scruples when it came to game playing. These.. these.. Ferengis... he hissed as he thought to himself... were nothing but indecisive scoundrels.
"Your move." he hissed.

Nika had been planning to enjoy her shoreleave. Admittedly, she hadn't planned to start enjoying it for a while yet. Although she'd finished the mission briefing, she had to look over the crew roster and request replacements for crew. Apparently one more crew member than she'd been planning to have to. Nika looked quickly away from the screen, as if she didn't look at the words for too long they could disappear as quickly as they had come.
She supposed it was inevitable, in a way. Nack was a good first officer, and she could see that any ship would be lucky to have him. And his competence was part of what made it hard for Nika to let him go. The other part, of course, was that she'd grown to like her first officer, despite some of the first impressions he'd given.
“Computer, locate Commander Nack,” Nika asked.
“Commander Nack is in holodeck one,” the ship's inhuman voice responded.
Nika nodded her acknowledgment, and walked to the holodeck. “Commander,” she said, on entering and seeing him. “Congratulations on your new assignment,” she added, handing her first officer a PADD with his promotion information on it. Nika had never been particularly enamored with subtleties.

Tiana had calmed down after the away mission, it had taken a lot of patience on Russell's part and approximately 18 hours of straight sleep but before the Victory slid into dock on Assailant she felt more or less like her old self again.
She had sorted out all of her paperwork and made herself a small devise suitable for bringing down forcefields so she wouldn't have to resort to retuning phasers in the field again. She had been pleased to hear that the smuggler they had caught had healed up just fine although of course he would be standing trial.
</\>This is the Captain to all crew. The Victory has arrived at Assailant, and R&R personnel assignments are now in effect. Enjoy your shore leave.</\>
Tiana was in her quarters when the Captain's message came over the comm. She stretched and then gathered up a few things. She had to do some emergency shopping to do, she needed a thank-you gift for Russ particularly as she was intending to hold him to that dinner out this shore leave.
Tiana quickly changed into civilian attire and remembering the 'difficulties' she had had moving her stuff into her quarters in the first place left everything where it was when she headed for starbase.

Scene: Cmdr Matthew Quarters
“James woke up at the words of the computer. "The time is 07.00 hours . Your designated wake up time." He slowly raised himself up from the bed, and sighed. Looking over at his desk three feet away from him he could see the small pile of paper work on his Desk.”
“He got up from his bed , and began to pace around his Quarters. "When the Captain Message came over the Comm. Shore Leave was Granted “
“He began slowly walking back around his desk. "Now With our 6-week mission over there was a Lot of paper work that needed to be Cleared up and filed with the 1st fleet Director of fleet Operations before his Shore leave could Start “
“There still a lot of Daily Ship Business to be carried out event though the ship was in space Dock he need to put in a Request for new officers and ship crew to be Assigned on Board and rotated off the ship before the next Deployment ” Some Maintenance Crews to be Assigned while the ship in Space Dock “Cmdr Nack has to sign off on before they can get started ”
“However, the VICTORY is scheduled for a minor software upgrade to her onboard systems; she'll spend a day or two in S-B ASSILENT shipyards undergoing the necessary Sheilds upgrading and Hull testing."
" He sat down, placing the now-empty cup back on it's saucer.
"It doesn't look like we'll have much time to rest Today ,"
“He stood, thinking of his daily plan, suddenly reminded of the fact that he had a Meeting with The ship Executive Officer to get the Final ok to start the ship upgrades “
“Well he Better get moving He shook his head and entered his bathroom to freshen up. He took a sonic shower to clear the cobwebs in his head. And made extra sure his uniform fitted him to perfection. “He looked at his reflection in the mirror, and nearly the thought "What is the point" floated through his head.
Not having the patience, nor the will to go through his own morning ritual, he left his quarters to see if he couldn't find something, some sort of breakfast, in the Officer Mass .

Nika left Nack to let him do what he needed to do in order to leave. She knew that she would have to make an announcement at some point as to his departure, but shore leave had just started, and Nika hoped to have more information about a replacement first officer before she had an official briefing. Besides, it might be better if she could actually talk to people individually, so she could make it clear that the Victory wasn't going to fall apart because she temporarily lacked an XO.
Not wanting to be unavailable in case anyone did have any questions for her, but in serious need of something to wake her up, as Nika hadn't gotten much sleep the last night, she headed to the mess hall to grab a cup of coffee and some toast. She brought with her a PADD, as she didn't think she actually had time to spare from her work.
Upon entering the mess hall, Nika saw Commander Matthew sitting by himself. “Mind if I join you?” she asked.

Russell was relieved when he heard the notice from the captain saying they were free to have some R & R. this meant for Russell two things, he now had time to empty his desk of paper work which he doubted would take long then he was going to hunt down Tiana and take her to dinner this evening. Seating down at his desk on the Victory he quickly checked to see when he had reserved the table in the Blue Lagoon, Russell had written it down on a Padd then put it on his desk which was a bad idea as there were 25 different Padds on his desk now.
Finding the Padd wedged under the corner of the desk ‘when did I put that there, and since when did my desk need a Padd under one of the corners’ Russell chuckled over the issue for a second as he confirmed the reservation was for 1900 hours, checking the clock this gave him 4 hours to finish off the paper work, get a gift for Tiana to cheer her up after the mission, and actually get round to telling her about the dinner plans. Russell quickly picked up the Padd with the results to his most recent attempt to get more Counselling staff for the Victory and after reading the first line cleared the Padd and moved on, picking up a file he was still reviewing he began writing in his next log entry for the file. “Robert Sharp has shown on occasion to be a good officer, but he also takes it upon himself to do as he thinks is best which during the last mission included poking around on a Breen ship while we were in a attempt to gain information from them and helping to foster a good relationship with the Breen. These actions while foolish can be explained, but as they could have put the Captain at risk I believe that a full Evaluation is due for the Commander.” Tapping the Padd to store the addition to the growing report Russell was making on Robert.
Placing the report into a secure draw, Russell made his way out of his office locking the door behind him ‘no more work for a while’ Russell knew that it would not last but a days peace would be more than enough for him. Remembering that he should really tell Tiana about the dinner plans tapping his comm. badge Russell begins to send her a message, =/\= Lieutenant Commander Davis to Commander Galywn, Tiana I have a table booked at the Blue Lagoon, it is on the Base, should be easy to find. It is booked for 7. Russell =/\=

Russell quickly walked though the stalls in the bazaar picking out something he was sure Tiana would like, then rushed off to get changed before 1900.

Tiana had found what she wanted for Russell and had then continued to wander round the shops she was daydreaming slightly and feeling rather relaxed.
=/\= Lieutenant Commander Davis to Commander Galywn, Tiana I have a table booked at the Blue Lagoon, it is on the Base, should be easy to find. It is booked for 7. Russell =/\=
The beep of her comm badge started her from her daydream she smiled as she listened to Russ's message.
=/\= I look forward to it, Russ. See you at 7.=/\=
With an even bigger smile on her face Tiana hurried back to her quarters with her purchases to get ready. She had all ready planned out what she was going to wear but she was also planning to go to more effort that usual over getting ready. Russ was certainly worth going to some effort for.
Tiana stared in the mirror hoping that she hadn't over done things, she got dressed up so rarely these days. She was wearing a flowing purple dress and had only braided back the front portions of her hair so that most of it hung loose down her back. She picked up the carefully wrapped parcel and headed for the Blue Lagoon she stepped through the doors at a couple of minutes before seven and started to look for Russ.

"Well, I have everything," Nack said to the Captain, finally finding her in the Mess hall. Commander Matthew sat across from her.
Nack looked around. "I think this is the first time I've actually been in here." he chuckled in recollection. "Always on the go we were." his attempts at small talk were lame.
"I would rather have a quiet leave... but I would like to say goodbye to the senior staff personally. Do you know where I can find Commanders Galwyn, Davis, and Sharp? The ship sensors were temporarily down. Apparently Sharp is doing some diagnostics.
<Captain>
He sighed. "If I don't get to see you before my shuttle leaves, it's been a pleasure serving you." Instead of a handshake, he bowed with his palms touching each other as he brought them to his forehead. It was a formal gesture, and he wished it to convey his great appreciation.
"I have learned quite a lot being on this ship. Patience, being the number one thing. The bouts with Wong, and even the shenanigans Sharp tried pulling... all riled me up pretty good. You were a model, however. I'll always value that as a trait I wish to portray as a Captain."
Not wishing to toot the Captain's horn more than necessary, he set out to find the other Senior Staff. "Meet me in airlock in an hour. That's when I am due to be off the ship."
Feeling a bulge in his throat, the Ferengi left the mess hall.

Nika's head tilted at the mention of needing to get Nack's approval on Matthew's request for additional personnel. “Nack's going to be leaving us. He's been promoted to Captain of the Nevada,” Nika said, still not seeing any reason to ease into the information. She also, however, didn't attempt to conceal the ambivalence she felt about the fact. Although intellectually Nika understood that this was a step up for Nack, and that he couldn't stay her first officer forever, that didn't change the fact that she needed him.
The silence her statement created was interrupted by the presence of Nack himself. He made awkward small-talk, something Nika couldn't help make smoother, before asking about the location of the other senior officers. “Sharp's somewhere in the mess-hall. He was here, but he got up to get some food. I believe Galwyn and Davis are somewhere over on Assailant.
“If I don't get to see you before my shuttle leaves, it's been a pleasure serving you,” Nack said, before making a gesture Nika was not familiar with. But she understood the deep meaning gestures could have, perhaps more than she understood anything else.
“I have learned quite a lot being on this ship. Patience, being the number one thing. The bouts with Wong, and even the shenanigans Sharp tried pulling... all riled me up pretty good. You were a model, however. I'll always value that as a trait I wish to portray as a Captain.”
It was good that Nika's culture provided a correct response to complimentary words that were undeserved, silent acceptance. Otherwise she might have been forced to sputter a refusal. As it was, Nika just smiled gratefully. “Likewise, it's always been a pleasure,” managing to portray more emotion in those six words than even she would have thought possible.
“Meet me in airlock in an hour. That's when I am due to be off the ship.”
“I'll be there,” Nika said, as Nack turned to go look for Sharp. Nika turned to regard Commander Matthew again. She didn't think she really had a good handle on the Operations officer, for instance she had no idea what he had thought of Nack. In fact, Nika didn't really know how anyone had felt about him apart from herself and the now-departed Tiberian Wong. A problem, and one she should rectify. Nika really needed to stay in better contact with her crew.
“He'll be a good captain,” she mused out loud. Especially once he learned some more tact. Which he would. CO positions tended to have a very steep learning curve.

OOC: This is a joint post between Commander Davis and myself.
Russell arrived in the restaurant in plenty of time and took a seat at the table he had reserved which turned out to be in a quiet corner. As he settled in his seat a waiter appeared at his elbow and ignited the candles on the table. Russell glanced round and saw Tiana in the doorway. Their eyes met and she walked over.
It did not take Tiana long to spot Russell sitting in candle light in the corner. She caught his dark gaze across the room and her stomach flipped a couple of times as she walked slowly towards him; fighting not to trip in her not too tall but unfamiliar heels. "It's good to see you Russ."
It took Russell a moment to absorb the changes in her appearance. He hadn't quite appreciated how long Tiana's hair was. He realised he was being talked to and smiled in response. "It's good to see you too. You look lovely."
Tiana glowed in response to Russell's compliment and settled into her seat opposite. "You're looking pretty dashing yourself." Tiana hadn't noticed the flames on the candles, she had eyes only for Russell.
The waiter arrived back then silently appearing by Russell's elbow again. He stood there just long enough to fill their wine glasses and hand them menus and then faded back into the restaurant.
Russell picked up the menu and attempted to read it. However, every few words he found himself looking up and glancing across the table. Every so often he would meet Tiana's eyes and then they would both smile. He thought Tiana looked a little puzzled as she stared at the menu. "Is everything okay?" he asked.
Tiana smiled at Russell, he was so good at noticing how other people were feeling. "Everything's fine. In fact better than fine." She gave a slight wry smile. "It's just I don't recognise any of the desserts." She lay the menu in the middle of the table. "Can you recommend anything? I have a pretty sweet tooth."
Russell reached across the table to pick up the dessert menu, in an entirely unnecessary (but rather nice) gesture that brushed his fingers across Tiana's. He glanced at the long list of puddings. "How about the double chocolate brownies?" Tiana nodded in response to the suggestion so Russell put their orders in.
Tiana accepted Russ's suggestion, anything with chocolate sounded good. She was grateful that he had ordered for them, she had spent so long staring across the table at Russell that her stomach was doing continuous flips and she didn't trust her voice. She had to face facts, as far as she was concern; Russ was gorgeous. She shifted slightly in her chair and noted the weight of the small parcel on her knee. She placed the gift on the table and pushed it across. "I got this for you to say thank-you."
Russell looked at the small square parcel, he hadn't expected this. He had bought Tiana a gift but... He passed his parcel over to her, "I got this for you. I hope you like it." He looked nervously at Tiana as she started pulling at the shimmery paper and then stared at the box in his hands wondering what she had got him and whether his gift would stand the comparison.
Tiana pulled the paper off the box it covered, Russell had used rather less tape than she had. She opened the box. Inside was a beautiful starbust pendant engraved silver on black. I was hung on a fine titanium cord. She stared at it in silence for a moment. She looked up and caught Russell's eyes. She found her own eyes were tearing up. "Thank-you. It's beautiful. help me put it on?"
Russell didn't need asking twice, he nearly tripped over his chair as she stood up and with noticeably trembling hands fastened the necklace's clasp around Tiana's neck while she held her hair aside. He settled back in his seat, his breath caught, the pendant hung perfectly at Tiana's throat and caught in the candle light every time she breathed. He couldn't believe he was noticing this.
"Go on, open it," Tiana said gesturing at the Small parcel on the table. She was still smiling.
Russell picked up the small package. It was covered in black paper withs a sparkling starburst design. She had clearly gone to a lot of trouble and tape to wrap it which was why he hadn't got in on his first attempt. With a fair amount of difficulty he finally pulled the paper of and opened the box within. Inside he saw a small silver pendant about half the size of the one he had got for Tiana, it was patterned with a heart. Russell swallowed. No one had ever bought him jewelery before. "Give me a hand," he asked, his voice husky.
Tiana knew that Russell didn't really need the help and she fumbled more than strictly necessary, her fingers brushing against Russell's skin as she finally fastened the clasp. She settled back in her chair feeling calmer. She touched the pendant at her throat and gave a small giggle "You know what they say about great minds..." Russell smiled as well.
Their starters arrived then and a relaxed silence reigned while the two of them ate. As their empty plates were removed from the table they started talking again, it wasn't a conversation about anything in particular but seemed to take in most subjects. Their talking was punctuated with lots of laughs and smiles and a general feeling of peace and relaxation. Then dessert arrived.
Tiana stared at the mound of cake and cream in front of her. It looked gorgeous, not as gorgeous as Russ, but still pretty good. She picked up a spoon and tried to decide where to start. She took her first mouthful of the dessert it was very rich and intense. She swallowed and With a wry smile she caught Russell's eyes, he did have lovely eyes, and shrugged. "I don't know that I'm going to be able to do this justice."
Russell looked at the expression on Tiana's face as the dessert arrive and knew he had chosen well. Tiana didn't hide things, and in his experience that was a very rare thing. He sipped at his coffee as he watched her start on the mountainous dessert. He was feeling very happy and slightly light headed, he hadn't been paying attention to the number of times their glasses had been topped up. When she spoke his first instinct was to protest that he wasn't that fond of sweet things but something in her look melted that comment unsaid. Instead he simply asked for another spoon.
Tiana smiled even more broadly as Russell's spoon arrived and he moved round the table so that he could attack the dessert form another angle.
The two of them ate dessert in near silence, it did not take long for the dish to be emptied. They stretched and each waited for the other to break the silence. In the end Russell rose to his feet and offered a hand to Tiana who took it and got to her feet.
Russell wasn't completely certain where this was headed but he knew he didn't want their evening to end yet. He delicately wiped a smear of chocolate off Tiana's cheek causing her to break into yet another heart melting smile. "So shall we take a walk?"
Tiana nodded in response to this and the two of them left the restaurant hand-in-hand and slowly wandered round the corridors of Assailant still chatting about nothing in particular.

Scene: USS VICTORY - Below Decks
Aft Torpedo Bay
“Service Technician Price stared at one of the diagnostic relays in one of the open panels near the aft launcher, trying to figure out what was causing the diagnostic check to fail.
“He reached in a adjusted one of the junctions with a spanner, watching his tricoder as he did. But, the more he attempted to fix it, the more of a alignment the relay got. As he sat there, fuming, he hear a loud bang and a yell of pain from within the launcher pre-fire chamber. A few moments later, Cr2 MacDonnell stumbled from the hatch, rubbing both his hand and the top of his head. Price stood and looked as his companion.
"You alright. What happened?" he asked as he walked over to the hatch a helped MacDonnell from the service hatch.
"Damn, I was making some adjustments on the eletro-magnetic induction sensors when the damn thing shorted out and bit me," he groaned as he placed the slightly burnt set of fingers into his mouth.
"What about your head, Brian?" asked Price.
"Well, when the fringing thing shorted out, it startled me and I jumped back, hitting my head on the torpedo cradle. Saw stars there for a few minutes. How you coming with your work?" he asked, still rubbing his bruised Head.
"Not good. With the new MMP in place, we've had to re-align all of the sensor feeds in hull weapons systems. Engineering could have at least re-set the feeds prior to the installation, which would have made things easier," Price said grudgingly.
"Hey, Sam, don't blame Engineering for that one. I understood that the ship wasn't supposed to Be moved over to the ship yard for Another two or three days. Now I hear the Schedule has been change we're leaving inside the next 24 hours.
“I think someone at Ship yard Operations Must be buried up to their neck with a back log of ship repairs request . Anyway, if your going to blame not having the targeting sensors and relays set for the new pod, then we have no one to blame than our own department, Tactical," said MacDonnell as the two men looked over the open panel.
"Well, I don't know who's fault it is. Hey, what do you know about the new TAC?" Price asked as he re-routed the diagnostic routine back through the calibration program.
"Price tapped in a few commands into the monitor and received a clear sensor picture of the area of space around the ship. He had actually tied into the Bridge station and was using his post to check the telemetry. he then switched the sensors to active, watching on the screen as the Victory’s sensors began to track the numerous vessels in orbit. Satisfied with his work, he returned the sensors to passive and directed the monitor to return to it's standard configuration. He then walked over to the EPS junction where MacDonnell was working on the flow regulator.
"Well, what's wrong?" he asked as MacDonnell adjusted the flow through the magnetic coupling.
"Just a little out of whack. There, got it. You know, I should have been an Engineer instead of a Weapon's Specialist. Would have been more career choices once I left Starfleet," he said as he closed the large panel and picked up his tools.
"What's next on the list?" he asked as he placed the tools back in their compartment.
"Quantum-flux torpedo inventory. That would be in the forward torpedo storage," said Price as he consulted his padd.
"Ok. I know that we're going to have to check the plasma feed to the ventral phaser bank here too. At least we'll be in the right part of the ship." said MacDonnell as the two leave the cramped monitor room.
"Actually Brian, that's been taken off our list and bumped up to Engineering. I guess the work that needs to be done is at their level and not ours. Plus, shuttles from the Star base are currently loading the forward torpedo storage bays right now anyway," said Price as their neared a turbo lift.
"OK, can't really count torps in the forward bay right now. What about the storage bays in the MMP and MMP support pylon?" said MacDonnell.
"Well, let's check in with the bosses and see if we can take an early lunch. I'm starved," said Price.
MacDonnell looked at Price and frowned.
"Your always hungry. I look at a piece of cake wrong and I gain ten pounds," scowled MacDonnell.
"Hey don't blame me for my hyperactive metabolism," said Price as the doors of the lift parted and allowed the two men to enter.
"Deck 5. I bet Kansas hometown cooking did that for you?" said MacDonnell as the lift took off for it's destination.
The lift halted and deposited them on Deck 5.
"So you think LT Shaw's eyes creep you out," said MacDonnell.
"Well, not really creeps me out, just,’ different'," said Price as the two friend rounded the corner.
The two continued to walk until they reached the TAC offices, looking for their next assignment of the day.

Nika excused herself from the Commanders' sides, after finishing her breakfast and granting her approval to Commander Matthew's request, since Nack hadn't done so. After finding her way back to her office, Nika checked on how the Victory repairs were going.
She was quite surprised to see them not only ahead of schedule, but by a fair bit. This unusual anomaly was explained by the second thing she checked, her messages. Apparently Starfleet Command felt that the Victory was ready for another mission. And that Nika could handled a simple diplomatic one while still lacking a First Officer. She wasn't sure that she agreed.
However, she didn't actually have to go at this alone. She wasn't sure whether her Counselor, Davis, had more or less diplomatic training than her, but she did know that one of the official duties of the counselor was being present and helpful during diplomatic situations.
Before continuing in that vein, though, Nika visited the airlock and saw Nack off. She'd miss the Ferengi, with his talent for rambling his way through a conversation. But she didn't really find that surprising, just as she hadn't been taken that aback by the fact that he'd be moving on. It seemed to be the way of Starfleet.

OOC: This is a joint post between Commander Davis and myself
Russell and Tiana wandered round the residential sections oof Assailant for a while. They continued to talk about all sorts of inconsequential and not-so-inconsequential things. They stayed hand-in-hand as they walked. It was a slightly wobbly walk but they weren't going anywhere in particular and were in no hurry getting there.
On one corner Russell gave Tiana's hand a slight tug. She turned to face him and their conversation was silenced by a gentle, lingering kiss. As the kiss ended they both broke into smiles and their conversation continued. A few steps further down the corridor Tiana gave Russell's hand a tug, he turned and was drawn into another kiss.
And so the walk continued. As one of the kisses ended and Russell's eye's refocussed, he looked up and noted that they were outside his temporary quarters. He hadn't brought them here deliberately but they were here now. "Do you want to come in?" He asked
Tiana nodded in response to Russell's offer. The door whooshed open and she followed him in. She wasn't sure where this was leading, although she also wasn't sure where she wanted this to lead. As the door closed behind them Tiana pulled Russell into another kiss that left her feeling breathless and giddy. She settled on the edge of the sofa with a smile.
"Do you want another drink?" Russell asked, he knew he wasn't going to have any more alcohol this evening. The wine with dinner had been lovely but real and now he was still feeling more than a little wobbly. He went to the replicator and got himself a glass of mango juice.
"I'll have an apple juice." Tiana said, this was becoming her drink of choice when she was in need of some reassurance.
Russell brought the two glasses over to the sofa and handed Tiana hers before settling down next to her and wrapping his arm around her shoulders. For a fraction of a second her felt her tense in his arms and then she leaned back against his side with her head against his shoulder. She twisted her head round for another kiss.
As Russell's arm wrapped around her shoulders Tiana had the feeling that someone had walked over her grave. A small shiver ran down her spine but the sensation passed as quickly as it had arrived. She pushed away the memories that came with the feeling. She settled back against Russell and to face him for another kiss. When this kiss broke Tiana stayed staring into his dark eyes. Then she smiled again and snuggled up to Russell. She leaned forward to put her glass on the floor and relaxed, reaching across to clasp his hand with hers.
It was quite warm in Russell's quarters and he sighed gently and sort of oozed into the sofa. There were so many things that he felt he could say but some how he couldn't really be bothered. It didn't seem to matter. He couldn't remember the last time he had felt this happy. "Tiana?" He asked softly.
"Um huh," she murmured in response. It would be quite easy to drop off to sleep.
"Just wondered if you're comfortable?" He didn't really want to move. Tiana murmured a slightly incoherent affirmative and inched her way even closer to his side.
Tiana was about three quarters asleep and idly traced her fingers over the back of Russell's hand. She wasn't really conscious of the gesture. She could feel Russ's breath in her hair as she started to drift into sleep. "Love you," she murmured as her eyes closed.
Russell sat in silence for a moment listening to Tiana's breathing. He wasn't sure he had heard the words he had thought he had heard and wasn't really sure what it would mean if he had. "Love you too," he said, kissing the top of Tiana's head as he too drifted into sleep.
Russell was startled to wakefullness by the door chime. He jerked to an upright sitting position pulling his arm out from behind Tiana's head and causing her to stir as he he did so. It was only then that he registered that his arm was full of pins and needles. He stood up and his foot connected with Tiana's (fortunately empty) glass and sent it rolling across the floor. He went to the door.

Nika had tried contacting Commander Davis through the comm-badge, only to receive no reply. A check with some of the Victory engineering staff revealed that it was a local communication error, something about the Victory systems not working fully with the Assailant ones at this time. Nika was assured that it was nothing serious, and that they'd have it fixed in no time, but it still left her feeling uneasy. She hated it when repairs caused more problems before fixing them.
Left unable to tell Commander Davis she was planning on dropping in on him, Nika walked to his temporary quarters on Assailant. She figured that if he wasn't there she could just leave the PADD at his quarters with the downloaded data for him to read.
She hadn't anticipated the rather bleary-looking Commander. "I'm very sorry to disturb you," Nika said, automatically stepping back a little to make it clear that she wasn't trying to intrude. Even though she obviously had. "Details for the next mission," she added, handing over the PADD, grateful that all needed information should be covered there.

Russell was mildly shocked at the captains arrival, unsure of what to say he accepted the Padd and had a look at the outline of the mission “This says we are to leave soon, do we already have a new XO sorted” Russell had seen the transfer report and had sent all the records he had to the Nevada’s counsellor.

It was at this point that Russell realised that he must look bad as he was still a little tipsy, continuing to read he became aware of Tiana standing behind him. Putting the Padd on a table nearby he turned back to face the captain “Well I will be there when you want us to leave”

As the captain left Russell turned to Tiana “well this should be fun” Russell said before he suggested they both got some rest before the left.

Tiana woke up when Russell moved but couldn't be bothered to get off the sofa. She tried to doze off again and then realised that it was the Captain at the door. She stood up and stretched, sleeping in a semi-sitting position was not the most comfortable thing to do , but it had been worth it.
She stayed out of the way as the Captain spoke to Russ and then the door slid closed and he turned to her. “well this should be fun” She smiled.
"A new mission's always fun." She yawned then and Russ suggested they get some sleep. Sleep, that was the key thing...
Tiana kissed Russell once more leaving them both slightly breathless and then with another smile and a wave headed for the door. She was sorry to go but if she stayed they'd be up all night talking or dozing on the sofa again. Given that they were both bleary eyed at the moment that would not be good.
She got back to her own quarters and sighed, she just about had the energy to hang her dress up before crashing out.
