βCommander Reynolds, please join me in my Ready Room.β
=/\= On my way, sir! =/\=
Zhukarak looked over his mission orders while he was waiting to discuss them with his First Officer.
Within the next two hours the USS Jefferson was receiving five experimental fighter crafts. Everything about them required higher security clearances than what Zhukarak currently had. He had no knowledge of what type of fuel they used, other than they wouldnβt require refueling during their trials. Schematics and technical data were absent as well about the internal workings of these fighters, and Zhuk had strict orders to not allow any personnel to tinker with them to see what made them tick.
It was all very unusual. Zhuk hoped that Starfleet knew what they were doing. The only solace he found in all of this was that Starfleet seemed to trust him and his crew enough to run these trials. He was sure the few times he helped out at the starbaseβs fighter wing had something to do with it also.
Matt shortly appeared and Zhukarak offered him some tea and a seat before he began with the mission profile. It didnβt take long for him to share what little information he had already gone over. ββ¦so you see the only thing we have standard about these fighters are their flight consoles, those are set up in Starfleet configuration. Since we have five of them I am assigning them in the following order; XF-1, Major Johnson, XF-2, Lieutenant Sharp, XF-3, Lieutenant Crusser, XF-4, you, and XF-5 will be piloted by me. Weβll be conducting the trials on the other side of Qualinost starting with the first three fighters tomorrow, keeping the other two in reserve until needed or until the others seem to function flawlessly. What are your thoughts?β Zhuk took a sip from his tea waiting for Matt to comment.β

Having just received orders to report to Zhukarak's ready room meant that Starfleet had assigned them a new mission. Getting as much as R&R as he could handle he was ready to get underway.
As custom, Zhukarak offered Matt a cup of tea which he gladly accepted. He had come to appreciate the calming effect that it had on him. As he took a seat, Zhukarak began the mission debrief which was unusually short.

Matt knew it was unlikely, but he felt the threat was serious enough to take it into account. The Tholians had for months occupied Federation space and they didn't know it. He didn't trust the Klingons either, who would love a tactical advantage. There was also the unknown factor that worried him. Without the ability to inspect the fighter they wouldn't be able to predict any negative side effects from the trials. Though Matt was sure that Doctor Keller and van Breughel would keep them well.
"My only real concern is regarding the location of the trials," Matt replied," we both know that the war can turn any day. Five experimental Starfleet Fighters might be a tempting target for the Tholians or Klingons."

Zhukarak thought hard about his First Officer's comments. "Yes, I had not thought about that." Zhukarak looked over the mission parameters once more. There was no indication or restriction set on where they could have the trials take place.
"We don not want to entice anyone with these new fighters. I am sure we will have enough to deal with considering we are not even allowed to know anything about them and their internal workings. I don't want to go too far from SBA in case we do have problems, any suggestions?"

"Good. I shall inform Starfleet of the location and I leave it to you to brief the crew."
"Alright, though I do have one more suggestion Colonel," Matt said.
"What about them?" Colonel Hrisvalar asked.
"It involves the Debrune. Their sensor network around the nebula will inform them of what's going on," Matt said," I suggest that we contact the Elders and tell them that we are currently conducting a classified mission and that we need part of the network shut down until we are done."
*"Agreed. I'll make the request through Starbase Assailant.
"If thats it sir, can I be excused?" Matt asked as he stood up at attention. With Zhukarak nod, Matt made his way out of the ready room and headed straight towards the conference room where he would prepare all the revalent information for the senior staff.

Daran accepted his Aldebaran ale from the waitress, and watched as the Major absently toyed with his water as he stared out the window. Daran glanced over as well, seeing the bulky outline of Starbase Assailant against the bright star of the system with what seemed to be hundreds of ships from shuttles to other Sovreign class star ships moving slowly through the view, then looked back at Cyle, he could see the remains of the injuries that he had suffered during the last mission still on his face and hands, which led him to think about Cyle's medical records.
"Sorry Major" Daran said, "but I was just thinking about your medical history. You're one of the most injured Starfleet officers I've ever seen. How have you managed to get yourself hurt so much?"

"Computer please download all information regarding Klingon and Tholian Fleet movements," Matt said as he grabbed about ten padds," please show latest movement in and around this system."
The screen only took a second to activate and Matt was pleased to see that no Tholian ship had been reported in the vicinity of Assailant in the last two weeks. The Klingons were a different matter, as all their passing ships refueled Assailant. Matt doubted that they would do anything to kill the alliance with the Federation, but everyone knew that the Klingon's could do something very stupid if they thought it necessary to win this war.
"Computer download this map into all of these padds," Matt said as he grabbed one of the padds and inputed all the information the senior staff would need to know to complete this mission. The only problem was that he didn't know much himself.
Without realizing it, Matt spent the next two hours going over the mission debrief and trying to come up with instructions that would seem viable to his staff. They were all good officers and even better people, but they weren't stupid either. Being asked to go into a complete unknown wasn't something everyone could do so easily.
=^=Commander Reynolds the USS Huron is hailing us=^=
=^=Patch it through here=^=
The face of a very old Vulcan appeared in front of him. Matt was positive that he was at least 200 years old.
"Captain, I presume that you have five fighters for us in your shuttle bay?" Matt asked.
"Affirmative, Commander, I've been told that shuttle bay 3 has been cleared and that are to transport as soon as we arrive," Captain Salok replied.
"Understood," Matt said as he tapped his combadge," bridge lower your shields. The Huron will be transporting fighters to Shutlle bay 3. Inform all maintance crew that the shuttle bay is off limits to everyone until I or the Captain say otherwise."
"Thank you Captain," Matt said.
"There is no need for thanks Commander, I was just doing my job," Salok replied before cutting the link.
=^=Reynolds to Colonel Hrisvalar, the fighters have arrived. They are currently in shuttle bay 3=^=

"Briefing at 2200?" Nathan grumbled under his breath, as he did his best to stay dry while trying to bathe his son. As usual the boy was being overly recalcitrant as he didn't like bathing at all. They had just shared dinner and had gone for a swim on the holodeck before that, and now it was time for the boy's bath and then bedtime.
"Dad!" Freddie exclaimed as Nathan soaped his hair up, "you're getting it in my eyes!"
Nathan stared down at his son and saw him rub his eyes furiously, however there was no foam whatsoever in his face, or even near his eyes. "Sit still then," he grumbled, as he continued to lather up the soap, before grabbing the hand-held shower to flush the soap out. Then he reached for a towel, lifted the boy from the tub and started to dry him off. "Get in your pyamas and then to bed."
Fortunately, for once the boy obeyed without question, but Nathan knew what that meant. If he went without moaning, he'd be moaning about something else. "Read me a story," the boy demanded, as he hopped into his bed.
"Not now," Nathan said gruffily, still irked about the time of the meeting. Freddie would be in bed by then, but so would the nanny and he didn't have the luxury of a holonanny anymore, not since the program had somehow caught a virus and was beyond repair. "I'lll read you a longer story tomorrow," he promised, then waited until the boy had fallen asleep.
Checking his chronometer, he saw he still had two hours to spare, so he would catch up on his paperwork until it was time to get to the meeting. The two hours flew by and Nathan had to hurry to the briefing, but he would not go before checking in on his son first. He hated running the risk of him waking up while he was on his own.
On the last few seconds, Nathan sped into the meeting and hastily took his seat, looking tired and annoyed. "Sorry for being late, some of us have kids," he scowled, as he met Daran's eyes and cast him a 'don't ask' look.

Raleva hadn't done much in terms of work. She spent most of her shoreleave with Nathan and Freddie and the rest was spent in sickbay being "observed" for any lingering effects concerning her illness. She had gotten her official transfer though. She had to admit, she was happy to return to counselling. She was just not cut out for the Science Department, but she had managed to secure a few items she hoped that Nathan would be pleased to have. He'd mentioned, several times, how much he missed his holonanny. She'd used her fleeting science officer access codes to acquire a portable holo emitter and a holonanny program she'd designed herself. She hoped that they would somehow make up for her being such a wench while she was sick. She knew Freddie would enjoy the program ... after all, Raleva had designed it after her own mother.
She wandered down to the briefing room, fiddling with the emitter and the data stick that contained the program as she went. She arrived shortly after Nathan.
"And forgive me as well," she added meekly as she took her seat adjacent to Nathan.
She glanced at him and smirked a bit as he mentioned his child as though he had five. She flashed him an encouraging smile and awaited the begining of the scheduled briefing.

Cyle looked at Daren for a few moments, trying to figure out what excatly the doctor wanted to know. After decided it was harmless to tell him, Cyle opened his mouth"i'm a marine, its what i do really" Cyle thought the answer he had provided would be good enough, but knew from looking at the doctor it was not what he had hoped for. Cyle really couldnt remember how many time he had been injured. In the last mission alone he had spent more than 4 days in sickbay, all the time put together of course.
=^=Reynolds to all Jefferson personal, we will be leaving port at 0730 hours tomorrow morning. Senior staff please report to a debriefing today at 2200 hours=^=
Cyle looked up as he listned to the anouncement, although it had come from his chest. With a sigh he and Daren stood up and left 10-forward. They walked together to the breifing room, and moments later entered, two of the first to arrive. Cyle sat at the end of the table, and watched as the others entered. Doctor van Breughal was late, as was Raleva. Cyle looked around at those who were now in the room, and continue to wait.

Daran sat in his chair near Cyle's and thought about the Majors' answer. The answer was interesting, in its' way. Many Marines managed to get through their careers without being injured quite so much. Daran shrugged to himself. He was a doctor, not a counsellor. He would spend more time tending the Majors injuries and not so much wondering why he had so many.
The Jefferson's senior staff started to trickle in slowly. Nathan came in looking unhappy and muttered something about children as he took his seat, tossing the CMO a look, which Daran returned with puzzlement. It wasn't like Daran had called the meeting after all. Raleva came in after that, apologizing for being late as well.
Sighing as he waited, Daran picked up the mission PADD that had been sitting in front of him and started scrolling through the information, such as it was. They were going to test some new experimental fighters, which had unknown weapons and capabilities. Frowning, Daran scrolled through the rest of the data. It seemed to mostly be filler. Information on the Tholians and Klingons, data on the area the fighters would be tested in, minimum altitudes the fighters would be allowed to hit over Qualinost. There was no substance on the fighters themselves. It was probable that Daran and Nathan would be asked to monitor pilot health during trials, but he didn't even know if the shuttles had any monitoring equipment, and there was an injunction against scanning the fighters, which, if taken to its extreme, might mean that they couldn't use the Jefferson's sensors to scan the fighter pilots. Daran's frown deepened. Maybe he would have to ride in the fighter, or cling to the exterior with a medical tricorder if there wasn't an extra seat. Not an experience he was looking forward to.
Daran put the PADD down and continued to wait for the briefing to start.

Security office
As Sharp is going over security assignments and who to place on guard duty on at cargo bay 3. As Sharp leaves his office Master chief Grentky comes around the corner and then hands Sharp a pad with todays security detail for the day and complaints and other security problems on the ship. "Master Chief take your best men to cargo bay 3 and know one is to enter without the colonel's approval." "I'll get right on it sir." The Master Chief heads back the way he came from.
As Sharp heads toward's the turbo lift an announcement from the xo comes over the speaker. =^=Reynolds to all Jefferson personal, we will be leaving port at 0730 hours tomorrow morning. Senior staff please report to a debriefing today at 2200 hours=^=
"Computer bridge" Sharp looks through the pad and something catches his eye. makes a note to talk to Dr.Breughel about that. As the turbo lift reaches the bridge. Sharp steps out of the turbo lift and enters the briefing room and takes a seat.

Zhukarak found himself in Cargo Bay Three, looking over the new fighters. He had gotten here as soon as Matt had given him the word they were on his ship. Sharp was on the ball too as Zhukarak noted the new security detail in place.
The fighters had a peculiar shape, they were a reverse delta configuration with the point to the rear of the craft. There was a small stabilizer fin on top of the rear, upon which Zhukarak precluded that they had atmospheric capabilities. Fins weren't needed in space, no wings for that matter.
Zhukarak walked around the perimeter of one. It appeared to be about 20 meters long, 12-13 meters wide at the front from wing tip to wing tip, and only about three meters tall with a single canopy near the forfront covering the pilot's seat.
It looked sleek and seemed it would be quite agile. He noted on each side of the wing, along the front were long elongated oval openings, which appeared to be the engine intakes as the shape continued to bulb along the length of the wings, both on top and the bottom. Zhuk wondered how close the technology was to their current impulse engines. He would have to wait and see.
Zhukarak noted the time and realized that the meeting was taking place. He left the briefing for Matt, but he wanted to be there anyways. Within minutes he found himself in the conference room, just in time to hear matt ask if anyone had any questions.

The entire senior had arrived, though a few minutes late. He had come to accept that many felt a level of comfort on the this ship and he was alright about this because he knew that when push came to shove they would push a lot harder.
"Well lets start then," Matt said as he handed each officer a padd," a few minutes ago the Jefferson received five highly classified fighters. At this very moment I suspect that Colonel Hrisvalar is inspecting them. As you can see we have no tactical information on these fighters and it will stay that way. We are forbidden to see how these puppies run. Only the pilot of the ship will be allowed inside the shuttle."
(All)
"Our training exercise will be here," Matt said as he pointed to the outer edge of the nebula," Admiral Lin and the Debrune have been informed to keep all sensors away from this section of space."
"Who will be flying the fighters?" Lt. Sharp asked.
"The shuttles will be manned by yourself, Major Johnson, Lt. Crusser, Colonel Hrisvalar and myself," Matt responded," the limited information on the shuttle you will be piloting is in your padd."
(Sharp, Crusser, and Cyle)
"Doctors and Lt. Silva, you will also play a pivotal role," Matt said," you will be performing physical and mental evaluations on all of the pilots. From what I know so far, the technology in the fighter is something we have not dealt with before and there could be some negative results. As a former science officer, I will be the one gathering all data on the fighters."
The swooshing sound of the doors meant that someone had just entered. Since the entire senior staff was present it meant that Colonel Hrisvalar had just entered.
"Does anyone have any questions?" Matt asked.

Raleva sat back and took in all the info she could. The feelings of unease that suddenly flourished within the room were so intense, she nearly had the urge to leave the room. Unknown craft that could have all kinds of problems and these people were supposed to climb inside and work them until all the kinks were out? Who wouldn't expect them to be a little nervous. Of course, she knew that none would ever admit it ... they were men after all.
She smiled nervously at the thought.
"So, when are the tests officially set to begin, Commander?" she asked plainly, "I have a feeling I'll need to schedule my exams in tandem with the various experiments."

Zhuk listened to the concerns of his newly appointed counselor. Even though she had joined Starfleet, in Zhuk's opinion, she was still one who maintained a civilian mind about her, not necessarily a bad thing. "Gamma shift already have orders to get us under way and we are preparing to head for the nebula as we speak."
A few surprised looks went around the room from one person to another, considering they were told that they would be under way in the morning. "We won't begin trials until 0900 tomorrow, so you have until then to clear your schedule." Zhukarak gave a momentary pause before he continued.
"Doctors, Counselor, I will need you on hand during each and every trial run for there is one thing I have left out of the briefing about these fighters..." Now his pause was quite a bit longer, even Matt had to sit back with baited breath, wondering what else there was. "These fighters have somwhat of an artificial intelligence to which the pilot will be integrated. Fitted with a helmet and enclosures for the arms the ship is to be able to almost instantly recognize what is required of it by the pilot. There are manual controls until the pilot and the ship become one...in a sense."
Zhuk looked at each and every one of his staff members. They seemed to be in awe. It was obvious that the doctors, and counselor, were concerned about the implications to the test pilots. "That is all I have. I don't think there are any questions that I can answer other than these orders come from Starfleet, and we will run these trials."

Nathan cast the Andorian marine commanding officer a hard stare when he mentioned the pilots would be mentally and physically connected to their craft. "That is highly unadvisable," he commented, somewhat coldly and disbelief audible in his voice. "There is not enough data available to predict pilot responses, when they are connected to their craft. It has gone wrong on too many occasions, during study cases."
Yet, the marine waved it off for now, it was what they were testing for too as the craft contained new updated personality response software that would reduce risk to the pilot.
"Are we expected to accompany the pilot during their flight?" he then asked, nodding towards the sleek craft. "We cannot monitor them from a distance, response time would be delayed. If we register a failure, it may already be too late to respond to it."

Cyle had been reading the PADD in his hands over and over again as the conversation soon turned to artificial intelligence. 'not again' Cyle thought as he thought about what had happened last time. Pushing the thoughts away Cyle got back into the moment, he listened to Nathan's objections and to the Colonels cool replies. Cyle thought he was paying attention to the meeting, but when he was abruptly touched on the shoulder, he jumped and looked up to see Colonel Hrisvalor standing over him.
<tag Zhuk>
Cyle stood up quickly, brushing off what the colonel was saying about not looking to good, and then started to walk out of the briefing room. Stopping just before reaching the door, he sighed and looked down at his feet. "Colonel, do you remember the treasure hunt mission i was on with the Nevada?"
"I believe i was given command of the Jefferson at the start of that mission" the Colonel said taking a seat, which Cyle closely followed suit, obviously bothered by something.
"yeah, thats the one" Cyle said with a sigh. "well, during that mission i came in contact with some someone from my past, Bo'Tija. When i was younger i used to work with him, or more work for him. Well anyway, a few years before i managed to leave him and join star fleet, we stole a ship with artificial intelligence. I was chosen to be the guinea pig and fly the ship, to make a long story short, the ship ended up malfunctioning and tried to control my body, instead of the other way around. Luckily for me i fought with the ship and crashed it." Cyle looked over at the marine Colonel, who he hoped would understand. "I guess what i'm trying to say is, I dont know if i can do this one"

"Are we expected to accompany the pilot during their flight?" he then asked, nodding towards the sleek craft. "We cannot monitor them from a distance, response time would be delayed. If we register a failure, it may already be too late to respond to it."
Zhukarak had to give his civilian doctor a look of disbelief. He really thought at times that Dr. van Breughel didn't always think things through in his eagerness of keeping people safe. "Then you would agree, doctor, that if we registerd a failure with another body on board we have just increased the chances of losing both personnel by 100%."
Zhukarak let this sink in for moment before he continued. "Besides doctor, this point is mute as these are single seat fighters. The worst case scenario is ejection which would then sever the pilot from the mainfram of the ship's AI computer." At least Zhuk had hoped this was the case as he knew nothing of the internal workings.
Zhukarak needed to share one more point that only a few others knew about. "You are probably are not aware that when I became the Commanding Officer of the Jefferson I had telemetry monitoring systems integrated with the tactical station. This is something we use in the marine corps to monitor our teams when they are inserted for missions. It gives us real-time data of all necessary vital signs of all team mebers. It helps with the overall tactical picture."
Zhukarak had noted how his fellow marine was a bit distracted. Zhuk sensed that Cyle was somehow disturbed by all of this. "I suggest we all get some rest. The unknown will come soon enough. Everyone rose and started filing out of the conference room except for Cyle. Zhukarak walked up behind him and touched him on the shoulders. Cyle jumped and looked back with a startled look on his face. "You don't look so well Major."

Zhukarak considered what Cyle was saying as he halfway sat on the conference table behind him. "Consider this Major, the people you worked with in the past did not have the best intentions in mind with anyone else but for themselves. Plus, it seems, when you stole that ship...you had no thoughts about any consequences for yourself either. I have my reservations as well having my crew mambers integrated with these fighters, but I implicitely trust that Starfleet would not have given us this assignment if they thought any harm would come from it." Zhukarak then rose as he could see Cyle thinking about what he had just said, together they began to exit the conference room when Zhuk then added, "Of course as Starfleet Marines, we would follow orders to our death in battle, but I still trust Starfleet more than I would a bunch of liars and thiefs."

"Then you would agree, doctor, that if we registerd a failure with another body on board we have just increased the chances of losing both personnel by 100%."
Nathan couldn't do anything else but agree with the marine CO. As it stood now, they were risking only the pilots whereas otherwise they would also be risking the observer. He nodded in response, but said nothing, feeling like a child who had been rebuked.
"Besides doctor, this point is mute as these are single seat fighters. The worst case scenario is ejection which would then sever the pilot from the mainfram of the ship's AI computer."
"Ejection to where?" Nathan asked, hoping dearly that the pilots would in such case be wearing EV suits at all times. "These craft are not fighter jets colonel, they would be ejecting into outer space. Constant motion towards their deaths if we so much as miss one of them ejecting out of their craft. I may be rather ignorant where engineering technology is concerned but even I had basic physics. Action and rejection. Unless whatever they eject in is equipped with some form of antithrust, we may not be able to recover them."
*"Again, dear doctor, you would have to agree that this alternative is still better than definitive death in the fighter craft. We shall deal with that matter if it happens." Zhukarak paused for a moment before continuing!
"You are probably are not aware that when I became the Commanding Officer of the Jefferson I had telemetry monitoring systems integrated with the tactical station. This is something we use in the marine corps to monitor our teams when they are inserted for missions. It gives us real-time data of all necessary vital signs of all team members. It helps with the overall tactical picture."
"And how will that help the medical and science teams?" Nathan cut in. He felt Raleva's hand on his arm, a persisting squeeze to get his attention. He shrugged her off, a little less gentle than he had intended. "We have little use for tactical data."
* For the first time Zhukarak was regretting having this civilian doctor on his ship. Was he not paying attention, or was he just trying to be difficult indicating how much he disliked the upcoming experiment? "Doctor, I believe you missed the part where I said 'real-time data of all necessary vital signs'!" Zhukarak felt like he was training a cadet for a moment. "In other words, this can be used for your medical diagnostics and monitoring."
Doctor van Breughel finally fell silent and rebuked no more.

Raleva listened to the Colonel's general briefing. She was rather surprised when Nathan's voice started to rise. She gripped his hand vaguely in an attempt to calm him, but he shrugged her off. She sent him a vague look of surprise.
"Nathan," she whispered, "Chill out."
He glared at her and she saw a faint bit of fury in his eyes. It troubled her, but she grabbed his hand again and shook it forcefully.
"Nathan, you should have faith in Starfleet engineers," she whispered, "I sure as hell do."

Daran spent time examining his PADD. Unknown fighters with full neural interface. Interesting. Trying to recall, he couldn't remember any research crossing his desk recently with regards to full neural integration of Starfleet ships to their pilots. It would definitely increase the response times of ships, however, Daran was quite cautious about the effect of the ships on the crew. Assuming there was a full neural interface, the pilots might have to be receiving input directly from the ships systems and sensors. As a result, there could be considerable time in adapting their brains to the new sensations given to them by the ship. Also, there would probably be extreme disorientation among the pilots as they were disconnected from the fighters and started using their normal senses again.
The CMOs train of thought was interrupted by Nathan, who was cross questioning the colonel on the mission parameters and the data that would be available to the doctors as they monitored the pilots. Dr. Keller winced inwardly as the Colonel put aside Nathan's objections, and none too gently either. Nathan fell silent once Hrisvalar was done, and Raleva whispered quietly to the civilian doctor.
In order to break the uncomfortable silence and get the staff meeting back on track, Daran opened his mouth and said "In that case, I would like all pilot's to report to Sickbay before trial flights start for a full medical work up. We'll need a recent baseline comparison for each pilot in order to evaluate the effect of the fighter on each one of you, except for Major Johnson. You've been in fairly recently." Cyle nodded thankfully.
"Also Colonel" Daran continued, "it might be a good idea if we have some shuttles with a med team aboard in case something happens and we can't beam them back for some reason."

Sharp pondering what everyone is saying about the new fighters in cargo bay 3. Sharp interrupts. "COL. I do not like the idea of hooking up to an interface to a computer. There are a bunch of things to go wrong. Plus who knows what the Tholians Klingons or even the Romulans will try to do to get their hands on one of these and not to mention the Ferengi or the orion syndicate might do.. Not to mention if the devise happens to short out while we are wearing it."

Cyle looked over at the colonel, whom Cyle had enormous respect for. "I dont know about you sir, but i'm not excactly sure i'm willing die just yet" Cyle said a bit more comfortable about the mission at hand. Cyle, being the only pilot not required to go to sickbay headed out towards the shuttle bay, where he would look over the new fighter he was to pilot. Each fighter was little bit different, Cyle could tell that just by looking, 'i'm guessing they want to test mutliple fighters, and then maybe pick the best ones suited for whatever they are to be used for' Cyle circled his fighter running his hand along the smooth surface and looking at what he could see outside the cockpit. The security team in the shuttle bay seemed to be watching him closely, perhaps given their own specific orders to guard the ships until they are ready to take off.
Cyle sat in the shuttle bay until the rest of the pilots showed up and walked around the their own ships. Cyle caught the eye of both the colonel and commander reynolds a couple of times, but didnt talk with either of them. he waited until the others were ready to go, then gathered around when the colonel had some final words to say.

"Those craft look fast, maneuverable and sleek," Nathan pointed out, "when they do what they have to do, there is no way a mere shuttle is going to keep up with them. We would need more than one shuttle, and positioned along the path of the craft. Either way, we would need to be able to beam ourselves from shuttle to shuttle to the point where we are needed."
While he spoke, Nathan quietly admired the sleek craft, though he made a point of staying well away from them. He was no pilot and there was no way he was willingly going aboard one, not even just to 'get a feel of it'. It was bad enough that others had to risk life and limb for this madness, he wanted no part in this, it went against any medical training he had received in his life.
"I'll want every pilot checked over," he announced, after sharing a mutual glance with his direct chief, "and nobody boards those vessels without being checked and double checked."
He caught Raleva's gaze of disbelief. "Something on your mind counselor?" he whispered once he had approached her, "you seem to have been vying for my attention for quite some time now, tugging at my arm like that."

Zhukarak had everyone follow him to the shuttle bay to take a look at the new fighters. On the way he listened to Sharp's objections. "We will be taking extra security measures while out there. That is part of the reason we have chosen the area of the nebula for these trials."
Doctor Keller mentioned an idea about having shuttle crafts available for emergency transports. "We infact will only need one, actually we'll use the Monticello." Zhuk was referring to the Capatin's Yacht as it was called. "She's the right capacity and size for multiple medical emergencies. The fighters will being flying within a single sector where only one shuttle will be needed to track the pilots."
Zhuk then looked over at Nathan about his previous interjection. "This way we, the pilots, can immediately be beamed aboard if we need to eject." Nathan simply rolled his eyes as if to say the Colonel had an answer to everything.
Everyone took some time to impress themselves with the fighters. "I want everyone to get some good sleep. We begin tomorrow with our baseline physicals, and then do some trial runs without the interface or without as much as possible." Zhuk wished everyone a good night as they all split up to their respective quarters.
