Lt. Kristin Hope Transporter Chief USS Jefferson
Scene: Transporter Room 1, Deck 8, USS Jefferson
Kristin had just read the report that had gone out to the rest of the crew explaining the highlights of there next mission. She like most on the ship had never heard of the Ethelonians, but that was part of being a Starfleet officer. That was exciting in itself, but what made her squeal in anticipation were the transporter possibilities. She knew that no one found transporters an exciting job, but she knew better.
The exact science that was transporter technology was almost unimaginable. The fact that this piece of technology broke a person into billions of subatomic particles, almost made her gag every time she thought about it. That was nothing compared to what the Ethelonians were capable of doing. She wasn't fully convinced that they could actually do this, but she couldn't' wait to see it for herself. Traveling those distances through a transporter were almost unimaginable.
This fact also made her a bit jealous. She had gotten to know her transporters very well and knew that they were top notch. She would gladly put any other Federation starship to the test when it came to transporters.
"Lt. are you sure this is necessary?" Crewman Daniels asked.
"Yes, we need to make sure that all of our transporter systems are running at 100% efficiency," Kristin said," these people are supposed to have the best transporter technology out there. I want to show them that ours kicks butt as well."

***Marine Deck, Shooting Range*** **0813 Hours** “I see that sitting in that big chair of yours hasn’t affected your shooting skills, you still got it sir.” Jason Carrera, senior NCO of the marines, noted as they both looked over the results of Zhuk’s target practice. Jason had become Zhukarak’s closest confidant ever since they had served together on the USS Nevada when Zhuk was the marine commander.
“Yes, it feels good to come down here every now and then and get some shooting in. Thanks for the invite.” Zhukarak returned his phaser to the armorer.
“Well, I know you’re busy and all. Now tell me the truth, do you miss it?” Jason had a big smile on his face, knowing the answer before Zhuk even replied.
“You know I do. The giving orders part is the same, just less hands on. Plus I have the worry of an entire ship, and I don’t just mean the crew…I mean the actual ship itself.”
“I don’t envy you, that’s for sure.” They walked out of the marine shooting range together. “Well sir, I guess I let you get back to it.” Zhuk’s com badge chirped.
=/\= Ensign Chen here, sir. We are approaching Ethelon III. =/\=
“On my way!” Zhuk replied before he turned his attention back to Jason. “Thanks again for inviting me down here. I needed this. Take care.”
“Aye, sir!”
Zhukarak left in search of the bridge. He regretted not being able to spend more time with Jason. Command of an entire starship didn’t afford him this luxury.
***Bridge*** **0827 Hours**
Zhukarak stepped onto the bridge and his customary “Report!” echoed from his lips.
Matt was monitoring the situation and was the first to speak. “We’ve been directed to follow a flight path through their shipping lanes, and are currently positioning ourselves in orbit of Ethelon III.”
Lieutenant Quindara at ops then chimed in. “Captain, We’re being hailed.”
“On screen.”
A tall, grayish figure appeared on the main viewer ahead of them. He appeared to be regal or royal as he was dressed in a nice velvety, red robe that extended all the way to the floor.
“I am Executor Ra. We welcome the Federation representatives to our home. Will you be needing assistance in the offloading of your goods?”
Zhukarak knew he was referring to the medical supplies that the Federation had sent along as part of the deal. Since they were here because of Ethelonian transporter technology, Zhuk wanted to see if he could impress them.
“That will not be necessary. I am Zhukarak Hrisvalar, commander of the Federation Starship USS Jefferson. If you will send us coordinates of where you wish this shipment to be stored, I can have it transported there.”
The Executor appeared to have raised what might have been his eyebrows. Zhuk figured that these people probably used their own technology to offload most of the goods from other ships, or let them ship it down in shuttles.
“That is acceptable. Coordinates will be sent shortly. You may send along crew that will be participating in the exchange of our technologies. Others of your crew may wish to visit our city, Thelon, during their stay. Our government seat is here and this is where we train off-worlders.”
“Thank you. You are also invited and welcome to send visitors to the Jefferson. We will await your coordinates and make preparations until then.”
The view screen changed back to show what was visible of Ethelon III in the upper right corner, as they were in orbit of the planet.

(OOC The Darkness Within NPC thread has been updated)
Location: Office of the Primary Conveyor City of Thelon (Capital of Ethelon) Ethelon III
Primary Conveyor Op Nilas looked into the reflective surface beside his desk and nervously whisked some imagined dust off of his immaculate sash. His 2.6 metre tall body reflected back at him, paler than it once was. He knew that the Federation ship, the USS Jefferson, was due soon and negotiations would begin after that. He had been the hereditary ruler of Ethelon for over 20 years, with his father before him and his father's father before that. There was nothing that any of them had done that would be more important than the successful conclusion of these negotiations.
Many of his people were sick with this mystery illness, and the peoples' greed for the strange and wonderful alien technology that so many races had given them in exchange for transporter technology had somehow unbalanced the natural processes of Ethelon. Things had seemed wonderful on Ethelon for many years. They had experience a golden age of technological advancement, fuelled by trade with other planets. Now, it seemed that the advancement had come at a heavy price, and those races who had seemed so interested in Ethelon not long ago were hard to contact now that they needed help.
However, he had heard of the Federation from some of the off-worlders. Most of them, especially the Ferengi and Pakleds, had spoken very badly of the Federation, that they would come and conquer what they couldn't steal. However, others had said that the Federation were a lot more fair than some races that he had visited Ethelon. Which concept was true was what Op Nilas wanted to discover.
Just then, his intercom buzzed. Nilas glanced down at it. Another alien device, but he activated it anyway. "Conveyor Nilas, " the voice of his secretary said "our radio telescope array has picked up an extremely large incoming ship. We can't identify it specifically, but it's coming in on the course that was agreed to by the Federation ship Jefferson. It must be them. They are passing close to transporter node station Arc 6-32, and the ship is being filmed. We should have some high resolution video of the vessel transporting in in a few minutes."
"Excellent. Tell the Colloquium to stand by. Let them see the radio telescope returns and video, it will keep them occupied." Nilas ordered.
"Yes sir" his assistant replied. "Primary Examiner Fahad Emm is waiting for you in the main communications room and she is ready to establish a radio link with the Federation ship. Executor Ra has already contacted them with instructions on where to send their medical supplies."
"All right" Conveyor Nilas replied. "Inform her that I'm on my way, and tell the Secondary Conveyor to join us. He should be present as well." Nilas quickly stood and swept out the tall door. His entourage of six Upholders, who were responsible for his personal security, joined him as he headed towards the nearest transporter hub, which would carry them to the main comm station.

Undisclosed Location Ethelon III
"Ral, I think that there's a Federation ship coming into orbit" the XakDorn said, turning to the Romulan who was sitting with his feet up on the desk studying a map of Ethelon 3.
Ral pulled his feet off the desk and walked over the the display the XakDorn was looking at. On it, he could see a pretty sharp outline from Ethelon's radio telescope array of the ship in orbit, which had the distinctive twin warp nacelles and primary hull of a Federation vessel. "What ship, Emman?" he asked.
The XakDorn turned back to the console. He had an illicit and very clever backdoor access to the planets radio telescope net. He quickly sorted through the incoming signals from orbit until he found what he wanted. "It's big, probably a Sovreign Class. Transponder shows her to be the USS Jefferson. I"ve been hearing for a while that Ethelon has been trying to get Federation membership. I guess that the process is moving along."
Ral shrugged. "It doesn't matter. This should be just what we need. I don't suppose we have a crew manifest for the Jefferson."
Emman tapped some buttons on his computer and lifted his eyebrows in surprise. "We do, and it's only 3 months old. It seems that Quinn is good for something after all, although how he manages to get access to information like that is beyond me." Emman downloaded the information to a PADD and handed it to Ral, who spent a few moments studying it.
"Call Quinn and Fellana in. It seems we have some work at last."
"The ship is moving past one of their space transporter nodes and they've taken some video of it. Do you want to see it?" Emman asked, smiling. Ral sighed inwardly. There was nothing Emman liked more than to show off his ability to hack into supposedly secure systems.
The leader of the little group shook his head. "I don't need to see it, just call them in. And stay off the subspace channels. Ethelon doesn't have that tech yet and I don't want that Federation vessel detecting us. That's the last thing we need."
The XakDorn nodded and pulled out a small hand radio.

Daran was sitting in his office, monitoring ship status. It seemed that they had finally entered the orbit of Ethelon III. He tapped his comm badge. "Lt. Kellar to Lt. de Silva."
"Go ahead Doctor" the chief science officer replied.
"Can you begin to run a scan on Ethelon III as discussed. Before we start beaming down there, I need to know if this disease they have is communicable. It might also be useful to know how many types of non-native species are down there as well. Get back to me when you have the results"
<Raleva>
"Thank you. Kellar out."

Scene: Bridge, Deck 1, USS Jefferson
Matt Reynolds, the youngest first officer in the Jefferson's history, looked at the Ethelon in front of him and shivered. In his short time in Starfleet, he had met many races he had never encountered before. For the first time, Matt was unprepared. He had already read the reports on the Ethelon's, but they didn't do them justice. Executor Ra was a very imposing figure and for some reason his demeanor didn't sit well with Matt.
"Colonel, if the Ethelon's do wish to visit the Jefferson, I suggest that we restrict where they can go," Matt said," at least until we can verify their technology and thier true intentions."
"Of course, Commander. Standard visitors protocol are in place here. We can allow them more access if our reports and information of the Ethelonios is verified to be positive."
OOC: I know it's short, but I need to keep myself involve because if I stop posting, I fear that I won't be able to stay with the mission.

Jeff was mopping up- not unusual for him, just not common at the Beginning of a mission. he had given the new officers the rest of the shift off- only an hour or so anyway, while he and a few others cleaned up.
"Anyone know where the term 'mop' comes from?" A crewman called out from the other side of Engineering.
"It was a cleaning tool on earth, but the word origin is beyond me." Another called back.
"I thought it was the name of the guy who invented the sonic scrubber." someone up top- Jeff couldn't tell who- who was cleaning the warp core replied.
"No, that was Mopus Ree, I think it was." came a voice from under a console.
"only in engineering do we actually know this stuff" Jeff muttered. "Who needs a computer with this bunch?"
"We heard that!"came the voice from under the console. "and we can deny that it's not true very easily." Muttered laughs were heard.
"Come to think of it, why do we need sensors?" Jeff chuckled.
"Cuz we're all blind." Ensign Rufus shook his head. "And I'm done. Quite a mess."
"Sure was. they did it though." Jeff Smiled. "And I have to head off to the transporter room to check on the progress up there. I'm sure Hope has the Transporters up to 200% by now.... With her, I don't think we'll need these new transporters."
And with that, he was out the door.

Cyle leaned back in his chair, sitting in his office, quite alone and comfortable. He sighed a heavy sigh as he realized he should be getting something done. Wishing he had an update on the situation with the Ethelons, he kept looking at a PADD in front of him, all the newest technologies he would like to get his hands on for his marines, as well as the security teams he was once again in charge of.
=^= Major Johnson to Commander Reynolds, can i have an update on the situation with the Ethelons on my desk soon please?=^=

Grace stepped on to the bridge just as Zhuk began his conversation with Executor Ra. Grace had been studying as much information about the Ethelonians that was available.
She knew that the Executor Ra was the head of Orbital Control Centre and responsible for controlling incoming and outgoing space vessels to Ethelon III.
Grace also knew the person she would have the most contact with was the Primary Conveyor Op Nilas, Ethelonian head of state who wants his planet to be a part of the Federation. Grace also knew that he is worried about the possibility of invasion, and that is planet has no fleet for defence.
Grace always enjoyed making contact with new beings. It always felt like she was making a new friend. Most times, when she has had contact with new beings, they do become friends of hers. The just her nature, sometimes.
Grace remained standing by the turbolift doors until Zhuk was finished speaking with Executor Ra, then she took her regular chair and turned to Zhuk and asked "Well, anything exciting going on?"

***Captain's Quarters*** **0913 Hours** Zhukarak retreated to his quarters in order to prepare himself for his visit with the Primary Conveyor, Op Nilas. Zhuk figured he should make a good first impression for the Federation by wearing his dress uniform. He actually liked his dress uniform. It was mainly a dark marine green with black accents and gold trim. It almost made him look regal. Theel’zhiin agreed as he squawked a positive response in the background as Zhuk was making a final inspection in the mirror.
“Come, my Guardian Sword, you shall accompany me. I’m sure these people will appreciate seeing you.” Zhukarak tapped his com badge as he exited his quarters, heading for the transporter room. “Commander Mitchell, I’m heading for the transporter room. I’ll be waiting for your arrival.” Zhukarak then tapped it again to reset the channel. “Commander Reynolds, are you, Commander Pudlo, and Lieutenant De Silva prepared to beam down to their research facility? I understand that Primary Examiner Fahad Emm is expecting you.”
<Matt>
“Good. I’m heading to the transporter room myself, I’ll see you there. Doctor van Breughel and Keller already beamed down with the medical supplies. Major Johnson and Ensign Rekab are assisting them. Colonel Hrisvalar out.” Everyone was prepared to meet their responsible counterpart it seemed.

Nathan and Daran stood on the planet's surface, surrounded by Starfleet issue boxes and containers. The two of them walked between the items, checking their manifest and making sure nothing had been damaged during transport. "This one materialised on uneven ground." Nathan pointed towards a small container that had been toppled over when it had materialised half on a boulder.
He knelt beside it and carefully pried the lid off to check its contents. "Everything still looks to be in one piece," he reported as he got back to his feet and dusted his legs off. "No sign of damage to the bottles inside. At least not marcoscopically..." He checked off the box on his list, then handed the PADD to his chief. "And now we wait? Or do we somehow haul it somewhere ourselves?"

Raleva returned to her duties, now at least confident that Nathan did not hate her. However, she left sickbay in a bit of a rush. She was behind schedule which is somewhere she never preferred to be. She tapped her comm badge lightly as she made her way down the hallway toward the turbolift at the end of the hall. She'd asked her newly appointed second, a junior lieutenant by the name of Grant, to begin the initial scanning as soon as they were within range. He'd been ordered to scan everything ... from the moment the Jefferson entered the Ethelon system.
=^=De Silva to Grant, How are those scans progressing, Lieutenant?=^=
=^=Better than anticipated, I have a live feed tapped into your main office console, I've filtered most of it into four different categories.=^=
Raleva actually stopped and smiled. She liked him already.
=^=Excellent work, Lieutenant, I should like you to join me in my office within the hour.=^=
=^=Aye, ma'am. I'll be there promptly. Grant out=^=
At this point Raleva had found her way to her office. It was much smaller than the one she'd previously occupied as the ship's counselor; however, it was much more ... quaint and homey ... which was always a plus. She strolled over to the replicator and garnered herself a cup of hot Earl Grey with orange blossom honey before taking a seat at her desk. As she held the cup in her hands and blew on it gently as the scan results filed their way down her screen. Grant had separated all the information based on federation qualifications as probable uses in groups designated Military, Commercial, Civic, and Miscellaneous. She was surprised at the Miscellaneous group, until she reviewed the read outs for that group with a bit more scrutiny. There were signal patterns that were unfamiliar to her and it appeared they had perplexed both Grant and the main computer. She set her cup to one side and isolated the readings. They were intermitten signals that branched out from the central planet, Ethelon III, to several different points outside the planet's atmosphere. They were not complex in so much as operation, but in so much as reasoning for them to be there. She filed the oddities away and compiled her reports for all station heads and issued them as quickly and efficiently as possible. She then downloaded the odd signal patterns to a PADD and considered them a bit more. It was about that time that the chime at her door sounded.
"Come in," she called, still puzzling over the PADD.
Lieutenant JG Isaac Grant appeared as her door opened. He stepped inside gingerly and stood before her desk at attention.
"At ease, lieutenant," Raleva said, trying desperately not to smile, "I suspect you have seen these?"
She turned the PADD toward him as he visibly relaxed.
"Aye, I've been checking every database resource available, they are simple visual compliance signals that don't seem to go ... anywhere," he replied with a sigh, "Either they are too complex for our computer system to analyze ... which is highly unlikely ... or they are the remains of some forgotten technology that we don't usually bother to scan for anymore."
Raleva looked up at him with an inquisitive expression, "Then why did we?"
"I was ordered to scan for anything ... any signal ... this is what came up. I've done scans like these before on countless other developing systems and I've never come across anything like this before," Grant replied evenly.
"Hmm, well I am expected to join the research team on the planet, but I want you to continue to work on this problem. There is something about this that bothers me, but I would rather have more information before pestering anyone else," Raleva continued, getting to her feet and returning her empty cup to the replicator bin, "however, I would also prefer to not have something like this come back to bite us.
"Well, enough about that, I actually called you here to inform you that I will be leaving you in command of the science personnel while I am away and I wanted to know how that will sit with you. There are thirty people, officers and enlisted, under my direct command. Do you think you can handle it?"
Raleva turned to look at the young man, who was now intently investigating the empty space located half a foot above and just to the left of her head. He seemed a bit hesitant, but after a moment he finally started talking.
"I am qualified to do so, yes -- ," he replied gruffly as a smile began to spread across Raleva's face.
"...but?"
"But I've never held command over so many before ... this is my first outting as a secondary Science officer."
Raleva nodded sagely as she folded her arms around her stomach, "I see, you'll do fine. Just keep everyone focused and pay attention to what they are telling you and you'll do fine. That'll be all, lieutenant ... and be sure to keep me informed of your progress on those signals."
"Aye, Ma'am, it's my top priority."
With that, he exited her office and Raleva took up her PADD and looked at the data once more. She then considered something else ... she was expected to meet Commanders Reynolds and Pudlo in the transporter room shortly. She decided not to leave it all in the hands of Grant and quickly downloaded all of the information garnered from the scans onto her PADD. That kind of information could certainly come in handy.
She gathered her field kit, which included two tricorders, sample kits, and an assortment of tools that she'd never used before but was convinced would one day "come in handy" and marched down toward the transporter room. She waltzed in to the sound of the Colonel's voice as it found it's way to Commander Reynolds.
“Commander Reynolds, are you, Commander Pudlo, and Lieutenant De Silva prepared to beam down to their research facility? I understand that Primary Examiner Fahad Emm is expecting you.”
<Tag Reynolds>
"I'm good to go ... where is Pudlo?" she asked plainly as the door slid open behind her.
<Tag Pudlo>
"Alright," she said with a brisque smile as she stomped up onto the transporter pad, "Let's light this candle, gentlement!"

Location: Main Communications Centre City of Thelon (Capital of Ethelon) Ethelon III
Op Nilas and his entourage materialized on the pad at the main comm station and immediately stepped off, heading for the screen room. Op Nilas knew that Fahad Emm would be waiting impatiently for him, but he was the Primary Conveyor here and would show in his own good time, and as such he tried not to let his nervousness show by hurrying. Nonetheless, Conveyor Nilas set a quick pace that his security was hard pressed to keep up with.
He swept into the room and saw the Examiner standing in front of a bank of viewscreens. Her stance seemed impatient, but she quickly changed it to something more courteous when he came into the room, and Nilas hid his amusement. At least there were others here who were worried.
"You're here at last!" Examiner Emm exclaimed. "We have the video that we beamed in from one of our transporter nodes. Did you want to see it?"
Op Nilas nodded and walked over to the largest of the video screens in the room while Fahad Emm cued up the video information. The main screen quickly showed a fairly close up view of the Jefferson. "How big is that vessel?" the Conveyor asked.
"Just a moment" Fahad Emm, quickly typing commands into the computer. The image of the Jefferson froze, then another shot of a smaller Ferengi vessel appeared below it. "This is the largest ship that has visited Ethelon before today. As you can see, the Jefferson is roughly three times the size of the Ferengi vessel."
The Primary Conveyors concern increased. The Ferengi had occasionally sent several ships to Ethelon to negotiate, and they often hovered over major population centres, and the threat was obvious, but the Ferengi never specifically referred to that threat, but they always made strong demands when they had that kind of position. Nilas really hoped that the Federation were the friendly sort. "Do we know what kind of weapons that the ship carries?" he asked.
Examiner Emm shook her head. "No. Our radio telescopes can't read anything through the hull, but if the Ferengi were telling any truth, Federation vessels and personel are heavily armed and ready to use them."
A new voice entered the conversation. "Perhaps we should not be applying for membership then."
Op Nilas looked over to see the Secondary Conveyor. His brother, Mil Nilas, stared at the display on the screen and then looked over at Op. "This could be a dangerous move, Primary Conveyor."
Op nodded wearily. He and his brother had had this conversation on a number of occasions. "I know Mil." His brother had some support among the Colloquium, and so to appease them all, the Primary Conveyor turned to the head of his Upholders and said "Carefully bring up the readiness of the army and missle launch batteries." The Ethelonian nodded and left the room.
"You realize we may as well be throwing rocks at the Jefferson" Examiner Emm asked.
Op Nilas nodded again. This had all been discussed before. A beeping from a comm panel distracted him, while the Examiner tapped some buttons. "It's the Jefferson. Their diplomatic party is ready to beam down" she said.
"All right, give them the coordinates for this room and tell them we're ready." Nilas turned and waited expectantly for the group from the Jefferson to transport in as his Upholders took up positions around the room.

=^= Major Johnson to Commander Reynolds, can I have an update on the situation with the Ethelons on my desk soon please?=^=
=^=Major Johnson, I'm afraid that will have to wait. The Colonel has given out his orders and I'm needed elsewhere. I'm sure that his orders will reach you shortly=^=
Matt was still not 'friends' with Cyle. Matt had to come to rescpect his ability, but his attitude had much to be desired. ~At least I don't have to work with him at the moment~ Matt thought as he finished getting dressed. Colonel Hrisvalar had informed him that he would be leading the away team on the planet while he and Grace would attend to the Ethelon representative.
“Commander Reynolds, are you, Commander Pudlo, and Lieutenant De Silva prepared to beam down to their research facility? I understand that Primary Examiner Fahad Emm is expecting you.”
"I will be meeting them shortly in the transporter room," Matt responded as he entered the turbolift. It wasn't everyday that Matt got the opportunity to do this. "I presume that I will meet you there."
"I'm good to go ... where is Pudlo?" she asked plainly as the door slid open behind her.
"Hello to you to," Matt said smiling. He was pleased to see Relava carrying her science kit, a small one at that. Jeff had yet to arrive and he could only guess how much he would bring.
"Alright," she said with a brisque smile as she stomped up onto the transporter pad, "Let's light this candle, gentlement!"
"Hold your horses, Lt." Matt said almost laughing. Matt clearly remembered the days when he was excited about everything as well. He loved and enjoyed those times as well. For now they would wait for the Ethelons to give the permission. "Colonel, Grace, I was wondering... is this your first official First Contact mission?"

"No, I have had many First Contacts when I was aboard the Nevada. Most of whom were quite wonderful experiences. I always enjoy First Contacts, they are usually never boring and most times quite exhilerating." Grace replied. "However, as you know, this is my official First Contact on the Jefferson. I also, must add that the last time I was on an away mission with the Colonal here, he was with to 'watch my back' and keep another crew member from shooting his own foot." Grace said with a big smile and slight laugh, remembering old comrades and old times. Zhuk just shook his head and smiled, while Theel’zhiin kept nodding his head like he was laughing , too.

"And now we wait? Or do we somehow haul it somewhere ourselves?" Nathan asked
Daran shrugged. "I don't really know. These are the coordinates that we were given."
The sound of footsteps caused the two of them to turn. There was a sharp slope behind them, and from behind it came into view the tallest living being that Daran had ever seen. The Ethelonian must have been almost nine feet tall, but very spindly and thin. It was wearing a long white robe with red markings up one sleeve. It also had a curiously shaped electronic device in one large hand and a wide belt with several more devices haning off of it.
The being took a moment to look around the site, then at the two of them and started speaking in its' own language. "I am Pratictioner Nenil, a member of the Ethelonian Medical Unit. Are these the supplies that we are being given?" The translation came out of the device the being had in its' hand.
Slightly startled at the abrupt conversation, Daran said "Yes, we understand that they might be useful to treat the unknown illness that you have here."
"Yes" Nenil replied. His hand moved to one of the devices on his belt and hit a series of buttons. Immediately, Nenil, the supplies, Daran and Nathan were beamed away.
The lot of them re-materialized indoors on a large pad. There were about 20 of the large aliens waiting, and they immediately started to move towards him. Daran hands twitched slightly, wishing that he had a phaser as the Ethelonians moved towards him, but they merely walked up to the containers and started moving them off the pad as Daran and Nathan watched.
As they stood there, another Ethelonian, again in a white robe with red markings on the sleeve, approached them.

Nathan craned his neck to be able to look up at these slender robed creatures and he too started when they suddenly spoke. He cast a somewhat uneasy look at his boss, while he held up his tricorder in order to scan the Ethelosians.
Seconds later, the open surrounding was exchanged for a closed building, though still with plenty of room from the Humans' point of view. Nathan nearly dropped his tricorder upon the sight of nearly two dozen, 9-foot tall creatures, the feeling of unease creeping up on him even more.
"Where are we?" he whispered at Daran, wishing he'd taken a phaser after all. Still, they were doctors and their first instinct was to take a med-kit rather than a weapon. He fingered the hypospray he was carrying in the pocket of his labcoat, trying to remember what medication was loaded into it. Any medication would do...just a proper dose of anything would knock anyone out...he hoped.
Together, they watched as the Ethelosians seemed to ignore them both for now, as they carried off the various boxes, checking their content. "Is this sufficient?" Nathan carefully spoke up, as he leaned back against a remaining crate to make eye-contact with the Ethelosian who had spoken earlier. "We can get more if needed."

"Colonel, the Ethelonians have given us clearance to transport thier representatives," Kristin proclaimed almost giddy with excitment.
Matt couldn't help but give her smile, it was rare for her to be this excited. The last time she was excited about a mission was over a year ago when she had to manipulate the Jefferson's transporters to keep 2500 people safe in its buffers.
"Lt. proceed with the transport," Matt ordered noticing that everyone in the room including him had involuntarily straightend up and were now at attention.
"I am Primary Conveyor, Op Nilas," Nilas said introducing himself," it is an honor to mee the representatives of the mighty United Federation of Planets."

***Main Transporter Room*** **0921 Hours** Everyone was assembled and ready for their departure. Just before they were about to beam down to the planet, the tac officer chimed in on Zhuk’s com badge.
=/\= Sorry sir, Lieutenant Wilson here. I thought you should know that the Ethelonians have weapons trained on us. Shall I increase the alert level? =/\=
It was apparent that the Ethelonians didn’t know whether they should trust the Federation., but Zhuk knew that returning the favor would give them even more cause for alarm.
“No. Let’s show them that we are here on peaceful terms.” Pointing in the direction of the transporter chief, Zhukarak gave the order. “Energize!”*** Main Communications Center*** Thelon, Capital of Ethelon Ethelon III **0925 Hours** "I am Primary Conveyor, Op Nilas," Nilas said introducing himself," it is an honor to meet the representatives of the mighty United Federation of Planets."Zhukarak was the first to step forward to greet the Primary Conveyor, to whom he had to look up as he was a good two heads taller. “I am Colonel Zhukarak Hrisvalar, Commanding Officer of the USS Jefferson. May I introduce my First Officer, Commander Reynolds. This is our counselor, Commander Mitchell, she is also our First Contact Envoy, and over here we have Commander Pudlo. Commander Pudlo is our Chief of Engineering, he will be the one responsible learning about your transporter technology.”
Primary Conveyor Op Nilas looked over the Jefferson crew before he continued with his own introductions. “Yes. On my right is Secondary Conveyor Mil Nilas, and on my left we have Primary Examiner Fahad Emm. Your Commander Pudlo will join her for the discussions of our technology. If I may, what an interesting creature you have…”
The Primary Conveyor took a closer look at Theel’zhiin, who instinctively spread his wings as an alarm to stay away. Zhukarak reached up with one hand to help keep him calm. “This is my friend, Theel’zhiin. He is overprotective of me, but I assure you that he means you know harm…unless you do.” Zhuk threw in that last line as a word or caution. “We do come in peace and we come at your request. Trust me when I say that there is no need for you to have your planetary weapons trained on my ship.”
Conveyor Nilas gave what appeared to be a look of surprise. He looked at his Second who nodded “No” in return, as if to say “We can’t trust them.”.

Location: Main Communications Centre City of Thelon (Capital of Ethelon) Ethelon III
The Primary Conveyor looked back to the odd looking commander of the Federation ship. He had never seen an Andorian before. "Perhaps you're right that we don't need our weapons ready, but we have been told some very negative things of the Federation, and in diplomacy sometimes caution is more important than courtesy."
<Anyone>
Nilas nodded politely at the response, then held his hand out to his brother, who passed him a small computer screen, which he then handed to the Colonel. "We have an itinerary prepared. The Colloquium has requested the honour of your presence for a brief greeting. They are the elected body of our government and will have some say as to whether or not Ethelon joins the Federation" he stated. "Then your diplomats and mine will transport to the central government building in Thelon where negotiations will take place, if those arrangements are acceptable."
<Anyone>
"Excellent. If you wish, your engineer can immediately go with our Primary Examiner to the transport research facility and training centre." Nilas declared.

"Perhaps you're right that we don't need our weapons ready, but we have been told some very negative things of the Federation, and in diplomacy sometimes caution is more important than courtesy."
Grace stepped forward and craned her neck so far back that she also had to bend backwards "Hopefully, sir, once you have spoken with us you will know that which you have heard is quite incorrect. The Federation as a whole would not harm anyone who has not harmed them. We have come at your request and hope to call you friend when we leave."
Op Nilas looked at the odd angle Grace was standing "I believe you were referred to as Counselor, am I correct?"
"That is my title, yes!"
"Then Counselor, might I suggest that you step back just a little. I appreciate your that your short stature makes it uncomfortable for you to look at me directly, just like the Ferengi." Op Nilas replied.
"Thank you Primary Conveyor. I do appreciate it. So, you have had visits from the Ferengi. Might I inquire if that is whom you have heard about the Federation from?"
"That would be correct, Counselor. The Feregi told us about the Federation, but we have also heard from others as well."
"Having met a number of number of Ferengi, I can only imagine what they have told you about the Federation. We can only hope that you with hold judgement on us until you get to know us."
Nilas nodded politely at the response, then held his hand out to his brother, who passed him a small computer screen, which he then handed to the Colonel. "We have an itinerary prepared. Zhukarak was gratefull for Grace's initiative in answering the Primary Conveyor. He could not have responded any better himself.
Nilas nodded politely at the response, then held his hand out to his brother, who passed him a small computer screen, which he then handed to the Colonel. "We have an itinerary prepared. Zhukarak looked over the itinerary on the screen and agreed. "Yes, this will be acceptable. We look forward to meeting the Colloquium, and will be glad to answer all of their questions. As Grace has mentioned, we hope to leave you as friends."
"Excellent. If you wish, your engineer can immediately go with our Primary Examiner to the transport research facility and training centre." Nilas declared.
"I request that our science officer also be allowed to visit your research facility and training center." Op Nilas agreed and Zhuk took a quick look at Jeff and Raleva and gave them a nod of approval. Together they joined the Primary Examiner who took them on their own tour.

When the Ethelosian seemed to take a very long time to consider the proposal, Nathan signaled his chief that he was going to have a little look around. Their present location, even if still an unknown to them, looked a grand place and Nathan wanted to see a little more of it. "Mind if I walke around a little?" he asked, "this place looks lovely."
He indicated the tall trees, bearing what seemed to resemble giant apples. "Are they edible?"
The human doctor walked on, never straying too far from Daran or the tall Ethelosian, never seeming to be of any threat. Not that he was armed with anything but his inhaler and a spare hypospray. He had those safely tucked away in the pockets of his labcoat. So far, there hadn't been anything encountered that was loaded with pollen. Every seemed very clean, too clean in fact.
Nathan wondered if Daran had also noticed, there wasn't a speck of dust or dirt anywhere. And there were no flowers of any sort, just grass and tall trees. "Daran...." Nathan nudged his boss quietly, showing him his tricorder readings. "Tell me what's odd about this picture? It may be nothing, it may be nothing at all, but I'd still advise caution. Have you tried reporting back to Jefferson yet?"

It had been initially decided that the first officer would join the chief science and engineering officer, but things didn't turn out that way. The Primary Conveyor seemed reluctant to allow Releva to join Jeff, but in the end he granted Zhuk's request. Matt was sure they could fend for themselves for a while. If the technology was advanced as advertised they might never want to leave.
"This is the Colloquium building, secondary home to our leaders," Nilas said," the greeting will be held here."
The building itself was aesthetic to the eye, but its architect made sure to convey the message of authority and power. As the group walked up to the main door, Matt couldn't help but noticed the security around them. It seemed like every 5 yards there was a guard with of all things a phaser in hand. It seemed like the Ferengi had already traded with them.
"It's a very remarkable place, Conveyor Nilas," Matt remarked.
"Primary," Nilas responded.
"Sorry?" Matt asked confused.
"I'm Primary Conveyor Nilas, I will be addressed as such or not at all," Nilas said taking offense to Matt's unknown rudeness.
"Of course Primary Conveyor Nilas, I meant no offense," Matt responded hoping they wouldn't be able to pick up on his agitation. The conversation ended abruptly as aides notified Nilas that the Colloquium was ready to see them.
They were ushered into a great hall, at least five hundred meters high. It was truly breath taking. The walls adorned with pictures of past ruling families and crowning achievements of the Ethelonians. In the middle of the hall, a few dozen people sat waiting for them.
"I present to you Colonel Zhukarak Hrisvalar, Commander Matthew Reynolds, and Commander Grace Mitchell of the Starship USS Jefferson, ambassadors from the United Federation of Planets," Nilas said.
"We the Colloquium, welcome our friends from the United Federation of Planets," a male in the middle of group responded," we look forward to a long and trusted friendship."

Daran tried to keep an eye on his assistant and the Ethelonians as they moved box after box of medical supplies. Although they seemed spindly, the natives must actually have been rather strong as they moved boxes no matter what the weight. As he watched, a hand on his arm startled him. His head quickly spun to see the source, but it was only Nathan. Dr. van Breughel held up a tricorder for him to look at and said "Tell me what's odd about this picture? It may be nothing, it may be nothing at all, but I'd still advise caution. Have you tried reporting back to Jefferson yet?"
Daran looked at the tricorder, but there were a number of different readings on the screen, and he wasn't sure what Nathan was referring to. He was about to ask, when he saw Nathan's eyes open wide with alarm and his neck bend back. Daran quickly turned to see Practitioner Nenil approaching quickly. These Ethelonians could also move very quickly, Daran thought to himself. The tall alien had yet another odd looking device in his hand, which he held out to them.
"I understand that the Federation is willing to help diagnose the medical problem afflicting many on our planet" Nenil said. "This is an information storage system that is compatible with your ships computers and contains the complete medical records of 100 of my people who are suffering from this...disease." Nenil hesitated before going on, his reluctance to say whatever was on his mind was obvious, even to Daran. "This thing has ravaged many of our population for a number of years. We have been unable to cure it or even reduce its' effect. It would be wonderful if you could help." Nenil handed the device to Daran, bobbed his head slightly, turned and walked away from the two of them.
Daran watched him leave. He could only imagine being a doctor and not being able to cure something for years and years and years. He turned to Nathan. "No, I haven't tried to contact the ship recently. I guess now is the time." He tapped his communicator. "Keller to Jefferson, three to beam up." He received his acknowledgement from the ship and he, Nathan and Cyle transported away.
Back aboard, Daran stepped off of the transporter. "Nathan, can you get this data to PO Kalan Ajus and tell her that she needs to begin an analysis of these records, quickly?"
<Nathan>
Daran nodded, then quickly remember a question that Nathan had asked on the surface. "I'm sorry Nathan, I never answered your question. What tricorder reading was so odd?"
<Nathan>
