Nathan was glad to be back en-route to Assaillant, and to be leaving the Ethelon system. At least the attacks had stopped, and sickbay was slowly returning to normal. Daran had been released to his duties, even though he was still watched by a single security officer that covertly followed him around. Covertly in that the officer stayed out of the CMO's way while he was at work.
Raleva was still stuck in sickbay though she seemed to recover nicely. At the moment, young Freddy was keeping the now counselor occupied, showing off his two cats. Nathan had arranged with Daran to allow the two felines in sickbay, as long as they would remain controlled and not be allowed to wander unattended.
The assistant CMO watched from a little distance as Freddy held up grey Sox to Raleva and heard him brag about the little feline. "Sox is really soft, and she's also very very tame," he smiled, while Sox struggled in his grip and mewed softly.
"Freddy, please let the cat go," Nathan suddenly spoke up, "get them both in my office and wait there. I have to examine Miss De Silva." Obediently, the five-year old retreated to his father's office. "How are you feeling Raleva?" he asked quietly as he sat down on the edge of her bed, "do you remember anything about the past few days?"
At the shake of her head, he briefly told her what had happened. "You were quite delerious and you kept yelling at us," he explained, "then you turned all sweet on me, and the next minute you ended up fighting me. I know you weren't yourself, but when ill you are quite strong."
Nathan held her hand as he spoke, while running a scanner over her head and torso. "You look to be getting better," he concluded, relief audible in his voice, "you were balancing on the edge of death. I was very concerned about you."

Raleva rubbed the little cat around the ears as he was presented to her, "He's very sweet, you must be very proud, Freddy."
The little boy beamed and made to present the other cat when his father joined them.
"Freddy, please let the cat go," Nathan spoke up, "get them both in my office and wait there. I have to examine Miss De Silva." Obediently, the five-year old retreated to his father's office. "Yes, few people, outside of the Klingon species, are stronger than crazy," she said, putting the bunny ears around the "crazy" with some zest and a smile, "I honestly don't remember anything ... accept the word 'clockwork' ... does that make any sense?"
Nathan held her hand as she spoke, while running a scanner over her head and torso. "You look to be getting better," he concluded, relief audible in his voice, "you were balancing on the edge of death. I was very concerned about you."
Raleva blushed a little bit and sighed with her hand on her chest.
"Nathan, thank you," she said sincerely before smiling cleverly, "Does this mean you don't plan to let me die anytime soon?"
He sent a glare her way and she laughed.
"One of these days, you're going to have to learn to speak my language," she continued with a weary smile.

Commander Matthew Reynolds Personal Log Stardate 93.0511
'The Jefferson is finally on its way back to Assailant and I couldn't be happier. The experiences on Ethelon were one of a kind, but it was an experience I could have done without. Colonel Hrisvalar and I met with Nilas and informed him that we would be recommending their acceptance into the Federation. I can only hope that they don't invite us back when they are accepted. I have also received some truly exciting news. Vice Admiral Drew has become the new Academy Commandant and Section 47 command staff has appointed me Commendations officer. That means I actually have an office on Starbase 47, which I will never see since I don't see myself going anywhere soon.'
"Computer pause"
Matt immediately realized that he really meant it. If it was up to him, he would never leave the Jefferson again. It had become his home.
"Computer resume log"
'There a few transfer reports that will need to be approved once we reach Assailant. Commander Jeff Pudlo has decided to transfer to Omicron to work in research and development. Commander Grace Mitchell will also be leaving us due to personal reasons. This means that we will have three openings on our senior staff that need to be filled. Hopefully the personal department will work everything out as soon as we arrive.
"Computer save and end log"
With his log finished, Matt decided that this was the best time for him to get a bit of rest. He already knew that he would not be able to actually sleep, but meditation might just do the trick.
"Computer deactivate my quarters comm systems, only activate if Colonel Hrisvalar is trying to communicate with me," Matt said as he took out his lighter.
"Affirmative, comm system disabled"
Matt took his place on the floor and got into position. He would try to get a good hour in, but he knew that Caleb would be in a couple of minutes. Knowing this he began his session and tried to relax.

A few hours ago, no one would have guessed that the current room she stood in was Transporter Room 1. With the help of Ethelonsian engineers, Kristin began to install the most advance transporter system in Starfleet. It was hard work, but after five hours of meticulous work it was ready. She wasn't prepared to actually transport someone through it yet, but the assembly was complete.
"Computer please run a Level 8 diagnostic on the entire transporter system," Kristin said as she wiped the grime from her face. She never knew that someone could get so dirty from cleaning a few pads.
"Lt. are you going to inform the Colonel or Commander Reynolds about our progress?" Crewmen Roberts asked.
"No, I don't want to bother them with this jut yet," Kristin responded," we're not ready to test it, so I say we wait."
"Understood," Roberts replied looking a bit nervous," ma'am if its okay with you, can we have an hour break?"
Normally, Kristin would have blown up at her technician, but she was in a good mood and knew that she had worked them to the bone fixing this one transporter. "Yes, but it will have to be a 45 minute break."
"Alright we'll get back to work......wait did you say we could?" Roberts asked mouth wide open.
"Yes I did and please know that it will not happen again," Kristin said smiling as she began tinkering with a transporter buffer.

Daran was sitting in his office, occasionally glancing out the window to the main room of Sickbay. Inside, he could see Nathan, Raleva, Freddie and the two cats quietly interacting with one another. He kept an eye on them for a moment, then went back to examining his console, although all that was showing was a list of 11 names in two columns. He wasn't actually working, just trying to think. Something difficult to do while being watched constantly by a security officer. After much work, three computer techs had managed to unravel the considerable modifications that Daran had made to the security systems on the lab on Deck 16 that he had done all the research in. They had given Daran the opportunity to view the recordings of what had happened in there. All Daran could do was shake his head as he watched himself read, research and work at a pace that he would have considered impossible for a human. Whatever Fellana and her group had given him was an extra-ordinary piece of work as well. It's too bad that a sample of the stuff couldn't be found, Daran thought to himself. Whatever it was, the stuff had completely worked it's way through his system. There wasn't anything to study.
Sighing, Daran turned away from his monitor and stared out his viewport into open space. So far, his posting to the Jefferson had been far less than exemplary, all he needed to do was look at what was showing on his monitor right now to prove that. He glanced at the list over his shoulder. It showed the crew members killed or wounded during the Ethelon mission. By taking the drinks that Fellana had offered, he had been the indirect cause of some of those casualties.
Unhappiliy, he walked over and removed the lists, then picked up his tricorder and left the office. Daran quickly walked into the intensive care area. The Jefferson had sustained a number of casualties during the Ethelon mission, and Daran reviewed each one. Changing pain medication on one, rescanning another, confirming a third for duty until he had been through each patient in Sickbay.
Duties complete, Daran left Sickbay and headed for 10 Forward, security officer in tow. He needed a drink and some time to think.

Cyle sat up from the biobed that he had somehow found himself on. Looking around he wondered how he had gotten back into sickbay, when he asked someone they said some of his marines has brought him after he had been shot in the side, and kncoked out with a blow to the head. Seeing Doctor Keller walking around, Cyle thought he had been released, but then saw Lt. Crusser, still guarding him. "Lt. your free to go, i'll watch the doctor" Cyle said as he stepped down from the bed, working the kinks out of his legs and arms. taking a few seconds to stretch he looked around the sickbay once again. "Are we heading home?" Cyle asked Dr. Keller as he moved to lean against a console next to him.

"Nathan, thank you," she said sincerely before smiling cleverly, "Does this mean you don't plan to let me die anytime soon?"
Nathan glared at her at which she started to laugh. "I had no such plans my dear," he answered, a little too coldly, even for his own liking. "I am a doctor, not a killer."
"One of these days, you're going to have to learn to speak my language," she continued with a weary smile.
"Your language?" Nathan looked puzzled at that, "I thought we already spoke the same language just now? Plain English usually tends to be sufficient, unless you plan to start speaking a different language as of now. I'll have you know I am fluent in two other languages, besides English and I can understand two more." It was common knowledge that Nathan spoke Dutch and Vulcan fluently and could understand French and basic Romulan. The latter because of his younger brother's involvement and assigment in the Romulan Empire.
"Don't laugh at me," Nathan scowled as Raleva continued her laughter. "I'll have you know that you have no idea what I went through when you fell ill. And with Daran out of his mind, it all came down on me to find a way to cure you."
He sighed, mock miserably, then smiled a few seconds later. "I'm really glad you're feeling better. I'm keeping you here for a few more hours, just for observation. If you still feel well then, I'm sending you back to your quarters for a few hours of sleep, after which you'll be cleared for duty. How does that sound?"

Raleva waited for Nathan to finish his tirade about languages. She laughed almost hysterically.
"Nathan, one word, three syllables: Sarcasm," she said softly, still smiling brightly.
The doctor stared at her for a moment.
"Oh."
Raleva burst out with another round of laughter as the doctor blushed almost imperceptibly. She touched his hand and smiled at him as he listed all his extra responsibilities while she was "in Lala Land".
"You did a good job, Nathan," she continued earnestly, "I still have my sanity as well as all my digits and appendages, which is more than most starfleet officers infected with a strange disease can usually ask. I am grateful."
"That sounds wonderful," she replied wheeling her feet over the side of the bed, "but if you don't mind, I'd like to go play with the pretty kitties for a while. I think Freddy needs some company."
With that she slowly walked toward Nathan's office, pleased with the fact that her legs, did in fact, work. She turned back to Nathan and waved him over.
"C'mon, a boy does need his father just as much as he needs small furry things that purr."

Nathan hesitated for a moment then shook his head in dismay. "When will medically trained people learn to listen to their doctors?" he mocked in return, though he followed Raleva and watched her play with his son and his pets. "Yes the boy does need his father, but he also needs a motherly figure and that's something I can't provide for him."
He glanced sideways at Cyle and Daran, who were standing at a console a few meters away, pretending not to listen in and be busy with their own occupations. "You may remember what we talked about before you fell ill...and while you were ill you mentioned it again. I denied your request though, I don't want to take advantage of you."
Nathan was certain Raleva would not remember making her proposal, and he was quite glad not to have taken her up on it, especially given her current rather furious expression. "I shouldn't have mentioned that," Nathan went on as he picked up Tibbe from his desk and set the cat back down on the floor. "Freddy I told you to keep them off my desk. I have samples here that must not be contaminated, and I do prefer to keep my desk feline hair free."
The boy smiled up adoringly at his father and his female companion. "Yes daddy," he answered contritely, before picking up Tibbe and handing him to Raleva. "He's the quietest of the two," he explained, then went on rambling off the two cats' personalities, bragging off his knowledge about his two pets.
Nathan merely smiled as he sat down behind his desk, observing Raleva's interaction with the boy, and drifted off, musing about future possebilities.

Cyle turned to watch as Nathan walked into his office, following Raleva, whom Cyle had yet to actually work with. The marine wondered just what was really going on between the two, and knew he would probably never really know. Turning his attention back to Daren, he still waited for a response from the doctor.
<tag Keller>
After he heard from the doctor, Cyle walked around sickbay for awhile looking at some of the consoles and reading a few things he saw. He suddenly realized he should go talk with Commander Reynolds and Colonel Hrisvalar, but remembered he was supposed to be watching Doctor Keller. With a sigh he returned to Keller's side and attempted to have a conversation with him.

Not wanting to take any time off, Matt decided that it would be best for him to work while the rest of the crew got some rest. It had been a while since Matt did the duties of an executive officer and he would take this chance to do it. He would examine the efficiency of every department for the last year and make recommendations to the Colonel. He would go over every status report for the last six months and make check all transfer notices available. It would not be extremely hard work, but it would take a lot of patience and time.
"Computer stop music," Caleb said as he entered there quarters," Dad, why do you listen to Vulcan music? It's so boring."
"Because I want to be boring for a change," Matt responded with playful banter. His relationship with Caleb had only grown strong the last two years they had been together as a family. He was now ten and Matt knew his life wouldn't be the same without him.
"Why are you so smart?" Matt asked as he put down his padd and entered the kitchen area. Both of them had recently discovered that Matt was not to bad in the kitchen and that natural foods somehow in fact tasted better than the replicated stuff.
"What are you making today?" Caleb asked as he propped himself in front of the television.
"Risan fruit salad with some white bread," Matt responded as he cut the strawberries and some green fruit that he barely knew how to pronounce.
"You a human actually came up with the dish, they were just on Risa when they made it up," Caleb said as he turned off the television and started to help Matt out. "By the way, would it be okay if I start training with you in Anbo-Jytsu?"
"Are you sure?" Matt asked a little concerned. The art of Anbo-Jytsu was very difficult and dangerous. He knew that his son would be able to deal with the difficult part, but he was worried that he could get injured.
"Yes, I'll be alright," Caleb responded," I'll have a Jytsu master training me. What can go wrong?"
"Flattery will get you know where," Matt replied with a smile. Caleb always knew what to say to get his way, but Matt was saddened to see that he didn't make friends very easily. He could talk to any adult, but with people his age it was a lot more difficult. He was pleased to know that he still stayed in contact with E'liana Be'Tor's cousin. His distrust of Klingons was still evident, but Matt could tell that it was dissipating every time he spoke to her. "After we eat, I think we should take a little break and go to the holodeck. I know you've been wanting to scuba dive the coral reefs of Belize."
"Oh about orbit jumping instead," Caleb asked with a wicked smile on his face.
"You're just pushing it now mister," Matt said as ruffled his hair and went back to cooking them lunch.

Daran looked over at the Major leaning on the console. "Yes, we're going back to Assailant. We should be there in a day or two" the CMO said, the conversation between Nathan, Raleva and Freddie a muted buzz in the background. "Are you feeling any better, major?"
<Cyle>
Daran nodded then said "You know major, I'm interested in a drink. Would you like to come with me to 10 Forward?"

"When will medically trained people learn to listen to their doctors?"
Raleva laughed jovially at the comment, and then covertly grabbed her aching side. She and Freddie played for several minutes and Raleva suddenly remembered why she avoided cats. She was vaguely allergic. Of course, she said nothing to Freddy or to Nathan, though she was certain he would figure it out later. Until then, she decided not to tamper with the good vibes in the room. When Nathan mentioned the proposal she almost choked. Had she said something like that? Although the idea was still drifting around her mind, she didn't realize how pertinent it was to her current state of being.
"It's natural for a person to seek physical things when they think they are going to die, Nathan, they think they are going to die," she replied shortly after Freddy started to drift off into his own little world with the two cats, "It's a natural inclination to wish ... to desire to leave something behind when we die, something biologic that will continue on with or without us."
She settled herself into a chair on the opposite side of Nathan's desk and propped her head up on her hand as she peered over at him.
"That doesn't mean it's a good idea," she continued with a sigh, "A child is a hell of a responsibility ... and I'm not sure I want to get started warping a child just yet. I need more time in starfleet before I really should seriously consider it. I need more experience with the strange and extraordinary before I can truly mess up the mind of a child to my liking."

Nodding, Nathan leaned back. "Yes a child is one hell of a responsebility, and I ought to know. Freddie is now four years old, just a little younger than my sister's second twins. She is a full time commanding officer, her husband a full time doctor and they have five children. I couldn't begin to know how to cope with that many children."
He glanced sideways, casting a loving glance onto his playful son. "And I wouldn't know what to do if I were to lose my boy. Apart from my siblings and parents, both whom I don't see too often, he is all I have. And MC7 has his own ship to run, so I don't get to see him very often either. We exchange messages on a frequent basis, but it's not the same."
He reached for Raleva's hand. "I know you didn't mean it seriously when you made that proposal, when you were so ill. That's why I didn't take you up on it. You are my friend Raleva, and your friendship is of more value to me than us having a child in any way. I'll not bring it up again unless you want me to."
Nathan smiled as Freddie trotted up to them, dumping a PADD in his lap. "Hannah said to give this to you," he said proudly, then smiled at Raleva. "Daddy, are we going to see the base? Hannah said we're docked. I wanna go see the base daddy." Again he flashed a grin at Raleva, one only a child could produce. "Are you coming too?"
Nathan raised an eyebrow at the counselor. "Are you?" he echoed as he pulled his son onto his lap. "I understood we are free to explore the base, and last time I didn't quite get a chance to do so."

"Of course, Nathan, I know I can trust you," she replied calmly.
Raleva smiled at the doctor and squeezed his hand as Freddie came over to them with Hannah's tidings.
"I don't see why not," she replied before glancing sidelong at Nathan, "That is, of course, if the good doctor says I can."
Nathan flashed her a look and she smiled.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
A few moments and a worried examination later, the three made their way to the starbase. It was an uneventful undertaking that generally consisted of Raleva telling Freddie jokes and Nathan trying not to laugh at a few of the more questionable ones that flew over the four year old's head.
They were to explore the promenade first and then the hydroponics bay and Engineering then, if they played their cards right, possibly OPS. Nathan insured them that he could get them in, but there was no telling how quickly the commander would throw them out. It was somewhat exciting.

With the USS Jefferson currently in port, Matt Reynolds the ship's first officer found himself rather bored at the lack of activity. He had spoken to a few friends throughout the fleet, complete the activity schedule, and tire out his ten year old son. Without anything to do, Matt found himself in the science lab. It had been a very long time since he was the ship's science officer, but had always made sure to keep an eye on all continuing research. "Computer, link with Assailants computer," Matt said as he sat down in a chair. "Who are you?" the computer asked Matt who almost fell out of his seat when he realized that the computer was talking to him. "I'm Lily, Assailant's main computer system and like I said who are you?" "I'm Matt Reynolds, the Jefferson's first officer," Matt responded as he got back into his seat," I'm trying to access your computer files regarding this species of lizard that we discovered a couple months ago." "Yes, I know of the lizards you speak of," Lily replied as he gathered the information for him," researchers have done a lot of study on them." "I would hope so, I almost got blown up for them," Matt replied not able to suppress a laugh. He and everyone on board had almost lost their lives because some mining consortium had claimed that the planet as their own. "Lily, has there been any more reports on Loskene's Cloud?" "Accessing file," Lily responded. Matt realized that he was the only senior officer on board that served with Admiral Loskene. The last he heard he was serving near the Romulan border somewhere. It seemed that the Jefferson's last encounter with the Romulans had indeed lasting effects. "On stardate 2393.0123 the USS America reported Loskene's Cloud reappearing in the Keytor system, lasted only 23 minutes," Lily responded. "Thank you, Lily you have been a lot of help," Matt said as he excused himself and went back to work on some other of his experiments.

Cyle looked over at Daren, "A drink, would be nice" He said, allowing Daren to lead the way to 10 Forward. Once they entered, Cyle instinctivly headed towards a rather secluded spot by the window, and then waited for Daren to join him. "A glass of water for me" Cyle said to the waitress, who then took Daren's order and scooted off to get the drinks.
Cyle waited until the drinks came before placing his glass of water a few inches away from his hands. He looked out the window and waited for Daren to began a conversation, simply becuase Cyle didnt really have anything to talk about as of that moment

As time went by, Nathan noticed Raleva liven up again and starting to smile more often. As they approached OPS, the doctor was starting to wonder what he'd gotten himself into. OPS was restricted area for civillians and he knew that even the local civillian doctor, a Vulcan at that, had been thrown out of OPS at some point, even though she was the base commander's physician, or had been that before a starfleet CMO arrived.
Freddie danced about them, smiling with glee as they approached OPS. "Raleva, Raleva," he singsonged, pointing at the large glass doors that would lead them towards the hive of activity that ran the entire base. The command centre, from where all orders came, and all docking procedures were watched.
"Quiet down!" Nathan admonished his hyperactive son, but the boy wouldn't settle down. He was too excited and kept singsonging and running about. Slowly they approached the doors, and were barred the way by two tall, broad shouldered marines. "I would like to show my son the control centre of this base," Nathan requested, "and my companion, Lieutenant De Silve will vouch for us."
"No civillians allowed at OPS," one of the marines growled, glaring down at the four-year old who now hid behind his father's legs, hiding his face in his labcoat, "and certainly no children! Admiral Lin's own orders."
"But surely a four-year old can do no harm? It may get him excited and join Starfleet in fourteen years." Nathan smiled coyly at the marine. "Please? Just a peek inside? I promised them both I'd show them OPS."
The marine's scowl deepened, and was now joined by his partner, who whispered something in his ear. "Get lost or else," the marine boomed, marching threateningly towards them.
"I'll have you both on report for this conduct," Nathan threatened right back at them, "my sister is a high-ranked Starfleet officer and my captain will hear of this as well." He noticed Raleva had stepped back, pulling his young son with her, just in case.
Nathan wasn't one to pick a fight, but he would defend his son like a lion would his cubs. The marine threw a few impolite curses at him, at which Nathan merely smiled. "Indeed," he answered cheerily, "and I thank you kindly for noticing. Now, please mind your language in front of a woman and a child. It is rather rude you know?"
He turned his back on the two marines and started to walk back towards Raleva and Freddie, when he was shoved forward, hard. Freddie screamed as he saw his father get shoved by one of the marines and hid behind the counselor as the blonde doctor lost his balance.
Nathan scowled as he flailed his arms to regain his balance and when he did so, he stoically walked on, herding Raleva and Freddie along with them. "I've recognized them, and I'll put them both on report. Now, as OPS seems to be out of the question, where'd you like to go now?"

It had taken almost seventeen hours of uninterrupted work for Matt to finally finish examining all of the projects he had started as science officer and he was pleased with the advancements that were made by the civilian scientist on board. He still received weekly updates from them, but truth be told he hadn't checked them in months. His work in improving deflector dish technology was making strides as the tests were now in the final stages. His request to review the work was granted by Starfleet Science which informed him that the ship trials were happening on Zenaxia III moon, Tysan. If everything went as planned the final phase of the trial period would be in three months. "Computer download all relevant information about Zenaxia III," Matt asked. "Information on Zenaxia III is not available" "What information is there about Tysan?" Matt asked perplexed. "Tysan, only natural satellite of Zenaxia III. Tysan is home to Outpost Iota 626 a Federation Research Facility. Research is classified and requires a Level 5 clearance." "Computer have any Section 47 ships visited Tysan?" Matt asked. "Affirmative, the USS Hepta and USS Majesty visited in 2389 and 2391." "Download both ships mission logs and send them to my quarters, authorization Reynolds zodiac alpha tango seven," Matt said getting up from his seat. If everything checked out, Matt would ask Colonel Hrisvalar if the Jefferson could be participate in the final ship trial. It would be an easy mission on the crew and give most some time to relax. ~Gotta see what happens on this mission first~ Matt told himself as he left the science lab and continued his research in his quarters.
