As Grace entered sickbay with Gorr who (was scheduled to have his chip removed), Grace heard Guardian Laurana's thoughts regarding removing Loran from the symbiont's memory. Just as Grace was going to speak to the Guardian, Grace received a communication from Zhuk.
"Grace, would you please see me in my quarters?"
=/\= Yes, of course. I'm on my way. =/\=
Grace went immediately to a turbolift, Zhuk didn't sound like he had happy times to talk over. ~I hope it isn't really bad news. He sounded so troubled, but he does feel things after all he is an Andorian. Odd, I forget that the majority of the people I know come from different worlds. To me everyone is the same, except me. WIth the exception of my great (x4) grandaughter, I have yet to meet a human who has telepathic ability. Any I have met are part Betazoid.~
While enroute to Zhuk's quarters, Grace thought of her granddaughter, Caring Sorrow. She served on the Hanson for a brief period of time. Grace gave thanks that Caring wasn't on the ship currently but safely back on Earth.
Grace had come upon the door to Zhuk's quarters at that moment. She rang the doorbell and entered when she heard Zhuk say to come in.

Nathan allowed himself to be dragged along, somewhere grateful that Mercy had used his brains first instead of acting on impulse. He'd been steeling himself for the horrible experience of suffocation, and had been relieved that it never came. Now he stood mutely facing the furious younger man, whom he thought had every right to be furious.
“I don’t know what your problem is with me and frankly I don’t give a damn. Now I have done everything I could to possibly not intrude on Doctor Keller’s and your daily operations around here as this is your ship, but if you continue to have these kinds of tyrades, especially with me, then I will be forced to relieve you of your duties on the spot as that is my prerogative as senior medical officer…and…I will make sure that you don’t get another posting anywhere within Starfleet command.”
Nathan listened without commend, wondering what this was all about. He hadn't indulged in any form of tyrade, it was Mercy who'd been doing enough tyrading for the both of them. Before he could comment that he wasn't starfleet, and that Mercy was acting irrationally, the younger man swept out of the office.
The civillian doctor followed at a slower pace, for once at a loss for words. He still felt his heart thudding in his chest and felt blood rush past his ears. Slowly, his fears passed and he actually smiled as he spotted Laurana. He watched her as she looked defeated upon hearing the Hanson had been taken. "Don't worry ma'am," he tried to reassure her, "this crew is very capaple and Colonel Hrisvalar and Admiral Drew will do their utmost best to capture Magellan so that we may heal him."
He nudged Mercy, who turned and glowered at him. Mercy stood only a hand's width taller than Nathan, so the older physician wasn't quite impressed by the look he received. Instead, he ignored the baleful stare and returned his attention to the stricken Trill guardian. "And the medical staff is doing their utmost best to find a way to help both Magellan and Lin. Aren't we doctor?"
At that moment, Doctor Keller entered sickbay, escorted by two security guards. "Excuse me," Nathan said, then walked straight to Keller. "Doctor, are you all right? We were worried about you." He pointed towards the critical ward. "Doctor D'Amato is still unconscious and still in danger, but she's stable for now. She's under 24/7 surveillance and I'm keeping a personal eye on her. She'll make it Daran, don't fret over it. Instead, let's refocus on Magellan and Lin. Commander Pudlo has designed a weapon he wishes to test..."

Grace entered Zhuk's quarters. Zhuk rose and offered Grace a seat. "Can I get you something to drink?"
Grace sat down on a nearby chair and Theel'zhiin immediately hopped on over to her lap. He had grown quite fond of Grace and didn't miss an opportunity to be pet by her. "Yes, a cup of green tea please."
Zhukarak returned with her tea and a refill of his coffee. "I'm sure you've sensed my urgency in requesting your presence. I'll get right to it. It's about Admiral Lin and the possibility that we may encounter him under less than acceptable circumstances."
Grace took a sip as she was petting Zhuk's lifelong guardian. "By that I take it that you mean you may have to subdue him..."
"KILL him, Grace...kill him. As a Starfleet officer I know that I am to do whatever it takes, but on a personal level...that is where my dilemma is." Zhukarak took a big gulp from his cup, waiting to hear what counsel Grace could give him.

"Wait," Raleva said to Commander Pudlo, "I think we still need a medical doctor to assess the damage on a physical level, I know I can assess psychological damage. I think I snag one of the various doctors. I'll meet you at the holosuite."
Pudlo nodded and carried on down the corridor while Raleva spun about and marched right back into sickbay. She waited all of two seconds after he finished speaking to Dr. Keller.
"Nathan, are you essentially necessary at the moment?" she asked and without even awaiting a response she grasped him by the arm and tugged him out into the hallway, "Good! Let's go."
"What was that about? Raleva, where are you taking me?" he asked, still partially in shock at being manhandled by a woman half his size.
"The holosuite."
"Why?"
"So you won't try to get Dr. Mercy to kill you ... again."
"I didn't try t-"
"Nathan, you just begged to be choked, possibly to death."
"Well ... "
"Well, what? Come on, we have work to do and very little time in which to do it," she concluded tugging him on in her wake.

"And just who are we going to test it on?" Nathan querried, glancing from DaSilva to Mercy. Then he resolutely handed the weapon to Doctor Mercy. "Shoot me," he told the younger man, bracing himself for any form of impact. "You've been wanting to since the moment we met, now's your chance."
"Wait a minute, there must be some other way to test this thing," Raleva replied almost immediately, "Nathan, you shouldn't have to risk your life for this. Commander, isn't there some other way to test the phaser, a hologram perhaps or something of the like?"
"Oh yes, there are better ways." Jeff said. "you could set up a cardboard cutout for all it matters- you just need to see how long the air stays ionized, and the target has no oxygen availible. and then you need to determine what amounts of time without oxygen would be safe." this fell upon Deaf ears though, as Nathan backed up against a Biobed.
"Don't argue with me," Nathan shot back, "we're losing precious time. If this thing does what Commander Pudlo says it does, all it would do was briefly deprive me of oxygen." Fear started to course though his body, as memories of his ordeal in the future surfaced. Remembered how his oxygen intake had been cut off long enough for him to pass out and continue experiencing difficulty breathing until he was finally rescued.
Raleva couldn't believe her ears. She felt the intense fear rising in Nathan's heart and it nearly brought tears to her eyes. He'd suffered enough in such a way, this was just unneccessary; however, she just couldn't answer fast enough.
<Tag Dr. Mercy, preferably>
He felt blood slowly withdraw from his face as he remembered, and sought support from a nearby biobed. "Do it," he repeated. "What kind of doctor are you, when you don't have the needs of the many at heart?" He hoped his taunt would anger Mercy sufficiently to stop thinking about ethics and just use the weapon before he would change his mind. "Who knows what Magellan is doing to the crew of that ship. Think of those poor cadets!"
"Doctor...." Jeff began, and paused. "Nathan, you're one time use only. If we get it wrong, you could die. If we use an alternate target, nobody has to die. and the tests could be done just as well." Jeff sighed. Next time he'd just use the medical library and research it himself. He had some basic medical training...
"I am not hearing this!" she said before she even managed to fully grasp the implications, "You're going to shoot him with a ... a ... a suffocation ray?!"
She turned back to Nathan incredulously, "And you?! Egging him on! Nathan, you're going to get yourself killed!"
this was not good, Jeff thought, as he tried to figure out what to do. "Listen, I'm sure you don't need a test subject to measure ionized gasses, right? this thing doesn't damage equipment, why can't I just shoot it at the sensor?" Jeff Asked. "Then you could ell me what power levels are safe depending on how long the ionization lasts."

Nathan was extremely surprised to be yanked along and very nearly lost his balance. He tried protesting but the science chief effectively managed to shut him up. Now, he merely frowned as he - unwillingly - followed her towards the holodeck. He tried to defend himself while she ranted at him, but each time she cut him off before he could utter a response.
"Well, what? Come on, we have work to do and very little time in which to do it," she concluded tugging him on in her wake.
He tried to yank his arm free from her strong grip but failed to do so; he had no other choice but to stumble along and pray he wouldn't trip along the way. "I agree," he answered, "now please release me so that we can move more swiftly!"
Finally she let go of his arm, and he rubbed his now sore wrist. "For someone so small, you have a mighty strong grip ma'am," he told her, while they approached the holosuite. Pudlo was already waiting and ready to demonstrate his new weapon. "Show us what you've got," he told the commander, raising an eyebrow at De Silva.
"This had better be good," he murmured, "but how do we know it works on individuals without attempting it on volunteers. Once it's calibrated of course. We've no guarantee it'll disable our rogue Trill admiral!"

Raleva glared at Nathan and sighed.
"Commander, whenever you're ready," she said before turning back to Nathan who was still rubbing his wrist.
"For someone so small, you have a mighty strong grip ma'am."
"You'd better believe it, Doctor," she replied evenly as she folded her arms across her chest and awaited the more senior officer's instructions.
"This had better be good," he murmured, "but how do we know it works on individuals without attempting it on volunteers. Once it's calibrated of course. We've no guarantee it'll disable our rogue Trill admiral!"
"Well, doctor, in your professional opinion and in scientific terms, how much of an affect should this weapon have on your average Trill in order to incapacitate but not permanently harm him?" she asked plainly, trying hard not to let Nathan know how much energy she'd expended in hauling him to the holodeck.

"Very well, computer construct a figure based on the dimensions found in Admiral Magellan Lin's biographic ledger," she said aloud, "Also, compute for psychological trauma reactions to do with the reptilian sensory systems and post traumatic stress and intensity. Any other special features to this figure, gentlemen?"
<Tag Nathan and/or Jeff>
"Yes, computer add those factors as well," she continued now looking at Commander Pudlo, "Have we covered everything, sir?"

Leo walked down the corridors of the Jefferson, heading to one of the holodecks. He yawned. When he had chosen to raise S'harien, he didn't know what he was in for. Keeping up with him distracted him from some of his other duties. He had droped S'harien off at the daycare place before heading to the Holodeck.
He had been contacted and told that a Team was creating and were going to be testing a new weapon that they were hping would put Admiral Lin out of Action for awhile. He had been told to go and oversee the testing, making sure everyone was safe, yaddah yaddah ya. The usual routine.
He yawned again and stepped into the Holodeck, just in time to hear an argument about vollunteers and trills and holograms, and Nate offering himself continusly.
(tag all in holodeck)
He sighed. "I'm here cause I was ordered here to oversee the testing of this new weapon you've created." He looked around. "Computer, Firing range and spectater box."
The computer hummed and the range appeared.

He turned back to the group. They were still arguing slightly and Raleva was creating a holographic trill.~ I have 3 Trill Marines that would vollunteer without hesitation~ he thought.~Maybe I should sugest it.~
"If you guys want any Vollunteers, just ask one of my Trill Marines."

He shrugged. "Only throwing out suggestions. They'd vollunteers right away if you asked. Do what you want though." He said.

"Well, doctor, in your professional opinion and in scientific terms, how much of an affect should this weapon have on your average Trill in order to incapacitate but not permanently harm him?" she asked plainly, trying hard not to let Nathan know how much energy she'd expended in hauling him to the holodeck.
Nathan looked thoughtful for several minutes. "The average human brain can function without approximately ten minutes of oxygen, of course this may vary per individual as freestyle divers train themselves..." he finally answered, "but an individual passes out within two minutes of deprivation of oxygen when they are untrained." He shuddered at the memory of how quickly he himself had passed out. "And that is not taking a struggle or exhalation due to the shock into account," he added softly. "But for a Trill...I dare not hazard a guess."
"His current irrational state of mind?" Nathan suggested, "he is ill, weakened. A healthy Trill of his age and...usual fit-ness would be able to withstand a lot more than one in his current state of mind.
At that moment the SMO, Leo Potter walked in. He yawned again and stepped into the Holodeck, just in time to hear an argument about vollunteers and trills and holograms, and Nate offering himself continusly.
"Major, what are you doing here?" Nathan called in surprise, "aren't you supposed to take care of S'harien?"
He sighed. "I'm here cause I was ordered here to oversee the testing of this new weapon you've created." He looked around. "Computer, Firing range and spectater box."
The computer hummed and the range appeared.
Frowning, Nathan glanced around. "What do we need a firing range for major?" he demanded, "we're going to shoot at a holographic image based on parameters given in Admiral Lin's personnel file. We're not shooting at live people, and adde to that, we're in no danger from our current position." He hazarded a glance at Pudlo. "Are we commander?"
(Pudlo/Potter)
He turned back to the group. They were still arguing slightly and Raleva was creating a holographic trill.~ I have 3 Trill Marines that would vollunteer without hesitation~ he thought.~Maybe I should sugest it.~
"If you guys want any Vollunteers, just ask one of my Trill Marines."
Nathan thumbed at Raleva. "I've tried to tell her that a real person would give more accurate results, but miss science officer here won't allow it. Had Mercy done as I told him to, we'd at least have basic results for comparison now. I doub't she'll let your Trill marines offer themselves..." He glowered at Raleva, then turned his attention back to the holograpic image of Magellan Lin that was now slowly taking shape. The similarities to the real deal were astonishing, including usual personal traits.

I can sense your anxiety, and you're not the only one having these feelings. Admiral Drew is feeling the same way, his are more intense due to his very long friendship with Magellan."
Zhukarak thought about this for a moment. He hadn't realized that he wasn't the only one who could have been feeling the way he did. It must definitely be much worse for someone like Admiral Drew. "Yes, I can sympathize with him."
"Of course, now why don't you tell me what your alternative thoughts are on apprehending Admiral Lin."
"Well, I had requested for Jeff to come up with modifications for a few phasers as the regular stun settings could still be deadly to Magellan and Lin in their current state. I'm hoping he'll be successful with this, he is an excellent engineer."
"Wonderful, I knew you had other ideas in mind. Keeping a positive outlook is always my motto. I seem to recall that Andorians are known for negativity, but I know that you are not always like another Andorian we both know. Why don't you concentrate on the alternatives, if you do, you'll find yourself focusing more and more on the positive and less on the negative."
Zhukarak thought back on their mutual friend and once crewmate, Frek Thelev from the Nevada. If there was a worst case negative Andorian...he was it. Of course it didn't help much as accident prone as he always was. If Zhuk had such bad luck as Frek did, he would have never been able to command a ship...much less a runabout.
"Yes, I see the wisdom in your words and I suppose I always knew it. I just needed to hear it from you. Now, let's go see Daran. I need to have a few choice words with him for his actions, his dereliction of duty to be more precise."
Zhukarak led Grace out of his quarters as she continued their conversation during their walk to sickbay.

Raleva ignored Nathan's glare of death and instead focused on the newly arrived marine officer.
"The doctor is correct, I would not allow such an experiment, even if your Trills were to volunteer," she replied evenly and then looking toward the most senior officer in the room, "Though I would be tempted to try it on myself just to get this show on the road ... Commander?"

"Very well," she turned back to Nathan, "That was sarcasm, in case you were thinking you still had a shot at being suffocated ... nothing doing."
She didn't wait for Nathan's response, instead she tapped her comm badge.

"We only need this range because its safty procedures. And I'm supposed to follow all safty percautions, even how stupid they may seem at times." Leo replied.
"Yeah yeah, just ideas." He replied to Raleva.
He yawned again while he listened to Pudlo explain some things about his newweapon he created.
~Hmm, could be handy to the Marines. Should keep that in my memory.~ He thought. He turned and studied the holographic represtation of their quarry.
He shook his head wirly. He yawned again, surprising even himself. He couldn't remeber the last time he was this tierd. Even some of the 3 day missions he had been part of.
He wondered how other parents survived through this. He made a mental note to talk to Nathan sometime soon about this.

"As much as I adore Frek, sometimes he could be a little on the exhausting side, between his negativity and his knack for accidents. Although, I also miss his comic relief he always gave. I wonder if his hair is still orange?
Zhuk thought about all of Frek's antics in the past and mused to himself about the hair. "Yes, he did keep things from becoming mundane."
"Oh well, hopefully I'll see them when we get back to the starbase. Now, for this unenviable task of dealing with Dr. Keller. Poor guy, I understand his reasoning but I don't condone his action. Zhukarak gave Grace a questionable look before she explained.
"I can hear them in my mind. I haven't been able to get my blocking fully up. I've been a little busy and unable to meditate. I was hoping to find a quiet spot in sickbay and meditate for a minute."
Zhukarak understood, he knew how Grace could become weary when she wasn't in full control of her own mind.
***Later in Sickbay***
Zhukarak and Grace stood by as they watched Doctor Keller taking his time in the removing of the isolinear chip from their Rutian 'guest'. Daran Keller had taken Zhuk's verbal lashing well, before the surgery, but Zhuk couldn't really blame him for his actions.
The other doctors were still in one of the holosuites from what Zhukarak had been told, testing out one of Jeff's modified phasers, he hoped it worked.
He could feel the ship's engines while standing there as he had already given the order to investigate the Hanson incident.
A report was sent to the Prime Designate about the rogue government within her own, and she was more than pleased and willing to allow the Jefferson to keep their captured guest for a while, the one that was under the knife for now.

Lt. Jg. Keller stepped out of the small conference room and walked quickly away, leaving the cold gazes of Col. Hrisvalar and Cmdr. Mitchell behind. He turned a corner, leaned up against a bulkhead and bent over, like a long distance runner trying to catch his breath. Several crew members walked past the unhappy doctor, eying him curiously as they passed, but Daran ignored them all. He hadn't had that severe a dressing down since...he paused to think... ever. He had never really gotten into any trouble at Starfleet Medical or the Academy, except for that unfortunate practical joke he had aimed at one of his fellow cadets involving the reprogramming of a shuttle simulator.
There was no way that he could have known there was a Starfleet Admiral inspecting the simulator that day. That one had never really been traced directly to him, although the Starfleet Academy Commandantr had yelled at his entire class for almost ten minutes. Besides, the Admiral had done well against the four Romulan Warbirds, considering that the safeties had been removed and the simulator locked down. He had only been in Sickbay for about an hour.
Daran stood back up. He had to learn from his mistakes, and it seemed that leaving the ship without orders was a big one. Straightening his uniform, Dr. Keller started on his way to Sickbay, walking in the door just a few minutes later and was immediately accosted by Dr. van Breughel, who rushed a series of sentences at him before Keller could say anything.
"Doctor, are you all right? We were worried about you. Doctor D'Amato is still unconscious and still in danger, but she's stable for now. She's under 24/7 surveillance and I'm keeping a personal eye on her. She'll make it Daran, don't fret over it. Instead, let's refocus on Magellan and Lin. Commander Pudlo has designed a weapon he wishes to test..."
Daran was trying to catch up with the flow of information when the situation in Sickbay went straight downhill, with Nathan attempting to goad Jeff Pudlo into shooting him with some new weapon that the engineer had developed. Daran was tempted to intervene, but decided to step back, observe and only get involved if it seemed that Nathan was actually going to get shot. The situation continued to deteriorate until Stuart Mercy grabbed Nathan and forced him into a vacant office. Daran sidled over and listened in on the conversation.
Once Mercy's verbal assault of Dr. van Breughel was over, Potter, Nathan and Raleva adjournd to a holodeck to test this weapon, with Raleva unceremoniously hauling Nathan out the door. Daran turned to see Stuart Mercy pointing into the same room where he had just had Nathan. The door closed and Mercy said coldly, "I thought that you were the CMO of this ship. Why did you just stand there while your Assistant was trying to get himself shot?"
Daran, in his turn, had just about had enough of today's events. "I am the CMO of the Jefferson, and I will use whatever assets I have available to me in whatever way I see fit. I have already spoken to Nathan about his behaviour and it seems to have done little good. I stood aside to see if a chat from a higher ranking officer would make an impression on him. In addition, I am considering having Dr. van Breughel removed from his position and placed under professionall care. His behaviour just now will go a long way in allowing me to do that, and that was all recorded on the Sickbay logs."
Commander Mercy stared at the young doctor, realizing that he and pretty much everyone else in Sickbay had been manipulated by Dr. Keller. "Interesting" he said frostily, and left the room.
Daran sighed and stepped out as well. He was starting to doubt that he would still be the CMO of the Jefferson by the end of this mission. In the meantime however, he still was, which meant that he had work to do. He quickly poked his head into the room that held Lt. D'Amato. As Nathan had said, she was stable and would probably recover with no ill effects. Next, he checked on Gorr, who had been delivered to Sickbay by Grace Mitchell a while ago. He was sitting on a table in a room being guarded by three large members of the Jefferson's Security Department. Daran joined them.
"Mr. Gorr, I am going to remove that isolinear chip from your back right now. Would you like to do it the easy way...or the hard way?" Daran said cheerily.
Gorr looked at the three burly guards, who stared back at him expressionlessly. "Easy way" he said meekly.
Dr. Keller nodded and said "Lie down on your stomach." Gorr complied quickly and Daran exposed the area he wanted to work on. There was no scar or any other indication that the chip had been inserted in this area. It was very nice work, Daran thought to himself. The work of a professional. He anesthetized the area with a local, pulled out a exoscalpel and made a small incision, then fed a small tube into the incision. The endoconduit penetrator fed slowly into Gorr's body, finding the least harmful path through the man's tissues under Kellers' careful hand. Finally, the tip of the instrument reached the isolinear chip and wrapped a pattern enhancing isofield around it. Daran then activated the biotransporter and beamed the small chip into a specimen container, which reduced the amount of harm removing the chip from such a sensitive area might have caused.
Daran checked for bleeding or any other complications, but found nothing. Satisfied, he removed the penetrator, then used a dermal regenerator to seal the incision and the path he had made to the chip. With a final pass of a medical tricorder to check for anything else Daran said "Thank you for your cooperation, Mr. Gorr", then walked out of the room, only to find Col. Hrisvalar and Commander Mitchell standing there. Daran froze for a moment, remembering the harsh words that the Colonel had had for him as a result of his little escapade on the surface. The Colonel seemed quite calm though.
"Is that the chip?" the colonel asked. Daran nodded and handed it over. The colonel stared at it quietly.

JP Raleva and Nathan. Moving things along a little here...
IC: After several minutes of fiddling around, Pudlo finally signaled that he was ready for the first test. Nathan quietly pulled Raleva back, while Potter sniggered at his obvious behaviour. However, even Potter signaled his marines to be cautious as Pudlo raised the weapon and aimed it at the holographic image of Magellan Lin.
"Computer, record test phase one, and announce results," Nathan spoke up, then watched as Pudlo fired his weapon, and the figure of Lin collapsed.
=^= Test one complete, Computing results....test one failed, test subject expired. =^=
Raleva stood back under Nathan's arm, oblivious to the implications. She held her breath as the commander fired his weapon. When the computer returned the results she exhaled audibly and glanced side long at Nathan.
"Still want to volunteer, doctor?"
She then turned to Captain Potter, who seemed to be staring straight ahead. At first she just chalked it up to him being a marine. "Captain?"
Nathan stood mutely gazing at the collapsed holographic form, then quietly shook his head. He'd gone pale when realising he'd have signed his own death warrant had Mercy indeed followed his order. Now, he was glad Mercy hadn't taken him up on the offer. He glanced sideways as Raleva addressed Potter, who'd gone rather pale as well. "Captain...are you all right?"
(Potter)
They watched as Pudlo fiddled with the settings again, this time only just killing Magellan. "Well, we seem to be getting closer now," Nathan offered dryly, "at least he didn't die on impact of blast." He patted Pudlo on the shoulder. "Keep going commander." He turned back to Raleva, his arm still draped across her shoulder. "How do you feel?"
Raleva looked up into her friend's face and smiled weakly, "Glad you didn't get shot. Yourself?"
Nathan smiled back. "Indeed," he replied, "I share that feeling." Unconsciously, he rubbed his arms, remembering again, and shivered. "At least someone had some sense hm?"
Raleva sighed, "yes. Well, this still has a healthy chance of working."
She looked back up at Commander Pudlo.
"Any idea what the problem might be, Commander? Perhaps the phaser was set at a higher than normal frequency. I know that can happen with regular phasers modified for special operations."
(tag Pudlo)
Meanwhile, Nathan kept his gaze fixed on the still collapsing figure of Magellan Lin. "Perhaps just fire two second bursts at first...and move up from a no-effect phase instead of moving down from a kill phase?" He now glanced sideways at Raleva, his brows furrowd into a frown of concern. "At this rate, we are losing time we cannot afford to lose."
Raleva wondered at that assumption. "Not necessarily, it's better to have a weapon that works as opposed to a dead Admiral ... ," she replied, "We haven't even closed on the Admiral's position yet, so this is time well spent in my opinion."
She looked at Nathan again and smiled, "Of course, that is a science officer speaking ... honestly, after the first shock watching a hologram die repeatedly can become rather boring."
"Not to mention disheartening." Nathan pressed his lips together into a grim small line as he watched the holographic Trill die yet again, only a little more slower and agonizing. "We may have the time," he added grimly, "but Lin and Magellan do not. And every second that murderess spends in control of Magellan's body, the less change we have of saving Magellan."
He leaned forward now on the rail of the construction Potter had ordered to be programmed and watched Pudlo. "We are doing something wrong," he added. "Computer compute for subject's current physical condition, severely weakened, low isoboramine levels, hightened state of emotion and stress."
Raleva nodded in agreement with Nathan's new holographic adjustments. She then turned to Commander Pudlo.
"Now, let's just hit him with a second or two from the phaser, just a second ...," she said, "Perhaps what we're missing is a bit of a soft touch."
Commander Pudlo nodded and as the newly battered Trill admiral appeared he zapped him for less than a second.
=^= Test one complete, Computing results....test twelve, test subject unconscious. =^=
Raleva smiled.
"I think that could do it, Commander, do you think you could keep a close rein on that thing?"
"I suspect I can," the commander replied.
"Good, then I think our time here is done for now," she continued and tapped her combadge, "Captain, we've managed to have some success here in the holodeck, I believe that it is safe to say that Commander Pudlo's weapon will serve us well in the reclaimation of Admiral Lin."

Zhukarak looked into the container and thought of the various possibilities this chip could have been used. "It looks insignificant enough to the naked eye. We need to find out it's purpose."
Zhuk gave the container back to Doctor Keller. "Analyze and compare it to the vid captures that we have of the chip that was within the Admiral's body. I'm willing to bet they are of similar makeup."
"Yes sir."
Zhuk turned on his heels to return to the bridge with Grace at his side. Just as the sickbay doors opened Zhukarak turned around to address the young doctor once more. "Doctor Keller, that's good work." They then left sickbay behind with Zhuk meaning what he had said. The doctor was a good man...he had just needed to be reminded of proper protocols.
Just as they entered the bridge, Lieutenant De Silva announced that their weapons test had become a success. Zhuk tapped his comm badge as he was taking his seat. "That's good to hear. There is another isolinear chip for you to analyze in sickbay. Doctor Keller was able to remove it from Gorr without causing any damage to it. We need to find out what it was used for."
Raleva acknowledged before she signed off.
Zhuk turned toward his First Officer. "How long before we arrive at the reported coordinates?"

Stuart stood there looking at the vid-screen alongside Doctor Keller who was busy manipulating the high-powered surgical scope that was producing the images for them. The chip looked very much like the one that was embedded into Loran's body.
"Did you notice if it had any sort of power as you were removing it, like transmitting or receiving or something?"
The young doctor gave him a look of surprise that basically said that he hadn't even thought of that.
"No matter, if it did it may still be generating it...unless it required live tissue as a conduit...hm."
Sickbay was then overrun it seemed by the others who had been doing their testing in the holosuites. They brought along the news that the modified phaser had worked. That was good news indeed for Stuart's ears.
"We were just now trying to figure out if this device was active or just passive within Gorr's body. I was just about to convert one of the tricorders to engineering settings, it'll take a couple of minutes...unless Mr. Pudlo brought one of his tricorders along?"
All eyes turned toward Commander Pudlo to see. The commander stepped forward empty-handed. "No, I didn't bring one, but I can convert one from here within a matter of seconds."
Stuart believed him and handed over a medical tricorder. He usually had no use for the engineering settings and he would have fumbled through the commands and function keys to get it set up. Commander Pudlo on the other hand was able to convert it within seconds as he had said. He then started to scan the chip and everyone was observing, awaiting the results.

Once things had calmed down a little Zoilip was finally able to get round to the latest Security updates and reports. He sat at Assailants master operations table and began to run through the huge volume of information. Occasionally he was disturbed by the roars from the Klingon Ambassador inside the office where Loskene and Savali were still trying to placate the livid Klingon.
"Sir we are picking up a distress call" F'rass reported from down on the lower deck
"On screen" Zoilip requested moving down to join the Regulan.
A static image appeared on the screen,
"Wheres it coming from?" Zoilip asked, "Can't we clear it up?"
F'rass nodded and bent to a console,
"Its Zeta Eridani in the Aldebaran system."
"Thats the home of the Zibal" Zoilip noted as the screen cleared up. The Zibal were a warp capable race, barely on the Klingon border.
=^= This is GranTag. We demand to know why you attack us=^=
=^=Attack you?=^=
=^=Yes your spear ship attacked our outpost stole our ore killed our miners. We are not strong we thought better of the federation.=^=
Zoilip frowned
=^=This wasnt us, I can assure you. We will send out a team to investigate. Until then I m going to transfer you to the Federation Council.=^=
Zoilip entered the appropriate commands and then turned to F'Rass, "Keep an eye on him. I reckon thats the Hanson I m gonna contact the Jefferson."
Zoilip retreated back to the master ops table,
=^=This is Starbase Assailant calling USS Jefferson.=^=
TAG Jefferson
=^=I have important information for you regarding Admiral Magellan. The Hanson was just reported attacking an outpost in the Zibal system. They are a recently warp capable species and unable to match an Intrepid.=^=
TAG Jefferson
=^=Oh and take care things are warming up on the Klingon Border. A major dispute between them and the Tholians could well be spilling out into our space=^=

=^=Good hunting. Assailant Out=^=

Jeff was having trouble reliving "I should never have left cruise liners...' he thought. Out loud, "Yes, a Holographic Image should be sufficient." It will work just fine!"
soon though, the hubbub had died down and they were testing the phaser. For the first several runs, it was too potent.
eventually though, It was beginning to work. A few adjustments to the frequency and power, and it was working. by the 20th test, it working pretty well.
"alright, that should do it for Now..." Jeff started to mutter as Raleva called the bridge.
Jeff Couldn't leave yet though. There was stillt he matter of the Isoliniar chip.
As Stuart handed him his medical tricorder, Jeff pulled up the Engineering routines and fiddled with the sensor for a second. "It won't work how it's configured now. It's adjusted to read living tissue. On it's current setting, I could scan a neural Gel pack pretty well, but an isoliniar chip..." he commented at the confused looks of the doctors. "you have to know more then how this thing's assembled o do this. you have to know the theory..." He trailed off as he started on the Chip. "Okay, it looks like pretty much what it appears to be. An Isoliniar chip, but it's rigged to interface a little differently then most. if you put this in a standard reader, it would stream out gibberish. Try and hack it through a normal reader, it would probably short."
Jeff paused when he pointed the Tricorder over a spot on the chip around the top. "It appears you were right about the power source Doc. It's not strong, and it's intermittent, but it's here. It looks like a bio-chemical signal. the battery was probably recharged by an interface link."
<tag anyone>
"I don't know how it works quite yet. I haven't finished mapping it yet. But I would suspect that it's encoded thrhough a Nural transmission, but has the standard reader just in case- albeit in a non-stnadard configuration."
"Why would you do that?' Mercy asked.
"Redundancy. It leaves a way to access the chip if the person on the receiving end can't work the neural reader. Even Starfleet Engineering Corps has yet to get this stuff working quite right..." Jeff looked at Nathan. "It would be appreciated if you didn't' repeat that doctor."

Raleva was happy to return to sickbay and she was also puzzled by the continued riddle of the chip. However, a theory flashed across her brain and she considered it great detail as she closed on the group of senior officers and Nathan. She peered over her civilian friend's shoulder and mused a bit to herself as Commander Pudlo entertained this analysis. She'd seen something like this before, in a textbook on Betazed.
"Commander, that's not a redundancy, it's a broadcast outlet ... for a telepath," she said poking at the chip with a handy scalpel, "They use them to treat dysfunctional youths and depression among betazoids, but I was unaware that such things had been developed for non-telepaths. I suspect it's possible, but it could be d ... deadly."
She turned to look at the various officers before turning back to the chip, "Trills aren't telepathic ... I mean, it's rare among humanoids, despite the fact that most humanoids are capable of it ... if they right areas of the brain are stimulated," she continued, "Of course, when a brain that is not originally engineered to recieve or transmit telepathic brainwaves is repeadly forced to do so it can lead to dementia and chronic psychological instability and possibly death. Gentlemen, this may be what caused the death of Loran and could also explain the effects that Lin's former host may be having on Admiral Magellan ... and if such psychological effect was traumatic enough to kill Loran it may have permanently damaged the symbiont."
She looked at the chip again and turned it over, observing the different features that Commander Pudlo had mentioned earlier.
"This is the worst excuse for a Hemaz I've ever seen, very shoddy workmanship ... if I am correct, of course," she mused to herself still poking at the chip, "On Betazed they have specialized artisans that spend years preparing one such device, this looks like it was thrown together by an engineer with nothing but a blueprint to work from. But it's better preserved than the chip taken from Loran's body ... the telepathic stimulator conduits were probably burnt out, which explains why we may not have noticed such features before."

Laurana listened Releva and Jeff as they discussed the device and became more and more alarmed.
"This could well explain things... We always assumed that the Lin symbiont was temperamental, eccentric you might call it because of the number of violent deaths he had encountered, Toya had the symbiont ripped from her by blackmarketeers" she paused, allowing her rapidly moving thoughts to catch up, "Magellan and Lin gained a better bond when the entered the Pools Of Mak'ala, The elders were able to improve his link something stopped them from being able to fully restore him perhaps this 'mind control'chip was responsible."
"What about the weapon? do you think it is safe?" Jeff asked
Lauarana looked at it and shrugged her shoulders,
"I dont know, I really dont. Trills never respond well to directed energy beams but as far as I can tell this is our only chance. We need to sub due him and then somehow reintegrate his personalitys and stop it from happening again."
"A tall order" Jeff noted "But with you, two Betazoids and 3 doctors I m sure we're in with a chance."
Lauarana nodded anxiously, "The Zhian'tara will rerintegrate him, but we will need willing hosts for Loran, Gethin, Toya and Bryson whilst we attempt to 'fix' Lin...and who would volunteer for such an invasion of privacy... This will not be easy even if we capture him."

Daran had left the group clustered around the chip in the specimen container and had been scanning the chip using the medical sensor suite from the main medical console. Although the chip was a technological creation, it had an oddly biological scan resolution. However, as he scanned the chip, the power levels from it abruptly went dead. The rest of the group gasped in surprise, while Daran frowned irritably. The thing was not giving its' secrets up easily. Suddenly, Daran grasped the significance.
"It's all right" Daran said loudly, getting the attention of the crowd in Sickbay. "The reason the chip went dead is because it utilized the biochemical energy of the body that it has been placed into to recharge itself. It's been disconnected from Gorr, so it isn't getting recharged. That is probably why it is placed so close to the spinal column. After the brain, it is the most active part of the bodys' nervous system, which is run through biochemical energy. The chip should reactivate if I surround it with a weak electrical field."
The group relaxed a little as Daran worked to reactivate the chip. He configured an extremely low powered electrical field, similar to what would be found in a humanoid body and activated it around the chip.
There was absolutely no reaction on the chips' part.
Daran frowned even more as Dr. Mercy joined him at the main console. "Perhaps something more specific is required" the commander said.
Daran looked over at him. "Do you mean that the chip is keyed to recognize Gorr's specific electrical field parameters?" Mercy nodded in response.
Daran turned back to the console. "Computer, scan and analyze Mr. Gorr's full biochemical electrical field and apply parameters to the isolinear chip."
"Working" the computer replied. After a moment, the computer had completed it's work and applied the new data to the electrical field surrounding the isolinear chip, which immediately came back to life. The crew in Sickbay breathed a collective sigh of relief.
Daran sat back in his chair. "On the other hand, if the chip is keyed to Mr. Gorr's personal bio-electric and telepathic signature, it's unlikely that we'll be able to get any information off of it, unless we can get him to co-operate or figure out some other way to get it to relay its' data."

"How about a hologram supplied with the biochemical specifics you just fed the electric field with?" Nathan offered. "I mean, a hologram supplied with data from Gorr's medical scans, make the image as real as possible, then implant this chip into the hologram? In essence, try to fool it?"
To the gynaecologist, the idea didn't sound too badly, but from the looks he was getting, he felt it was a reasonably stupid idea. "Just a thought," he shrugged, "if we can testfire a weapon on a hologram based on Magellan Lin, why not extract information from a hologram based on Gorr?"
Nathan glanced around the small group. "It's worth a shot isn't it? I mean, what have we got to lose? Without trying, we're just as far as when we try and gain zero result."
