Loskene stepped onto the bridge. "Admiral on the bridge," called the officer manning the ops station, the station nearest the Admiral's day cabin. Commander Matthew had just settled into the command chair for the forenoon watch. "Commander, are all of the Jefferson personnel aboard” Cmdr Matthew. Most are sir I just had Cmdr Reynolds Contact the base and had them issue a general recall for the ship?" Inquired the Admiral. "Very well, Commander. Recall all senior Department heads. Loskene sat down for a few minutes. He still felt a little dizzy, but the headache had subsided. Loskene muttered to himself "Figures, my people can destroy entire Borg ships but can't stomach a few glasses of alcohol." Commander Matthew looked over to him.Matthew: Come again, sir? Loskene: Nothing... Where is everyone? I called them to report in 15 minutes ago. Matthew: I suppose they're still on vacation mode, sir. Loskene: Well they'll be in unemployment mode if they don't show up soon. Loskene and Matthews chuckled at that. A few moments later, the turbolift doors opened up, and a few bridge officers entered.Loskene: Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen. We'll be departing in just under two hours. Make sure that everything is ready. I want this mission to be as painless as possible. All officers, please send status reports to me ASAP. <tag everyone. I told you we'd start something soon ;D>

In sickbay, Rayna rolled her eyes at T'Val. "As painless as possible?" she huffed, "sure! Has there ever a mission gone by without anyone getting hurt?"
T'Val shrugged ever so slightly, as she continued to clean out her office. "I do not know, I have not been aboard the Jefferson for very long yet. However I do think you have a point." She looked around the doorpost, to see if the Jefferson's latest arrival had found time to report in again. One of the nurses had informed her, after she had returned from Assaillant.
She smiled inwardly, she'd been having a great time with the base CMO Dr Mercy, and he had certainly showed her how to have a good time, despite the dire situation sickbay was in with the mysterious virus going around. T'Val had promised Mercy to continue her research, while she was away with the Jefferson, and to fill him in on anything she discovered, as soon as she'd discovered it.
Finally, she tapped her combadge. "Bridge, this is T'Val. Sickbay is reporting ready," she announced, then paused. "If Mr Pudlo is about, do please send him down, and tell him to bring his medical records please. Thank you."

Daya had stayed inside his quarters for the majority of his leave time. He had not wanted to go the Star Base, or to even see anyone, he just wanted to lay down.
When the call for all department heads to report in came, he got up and fized his uniform, then left for the bridge.
When the turbolift doors opened, he stepped out, as well as a few others.
"Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen. We'll be departing in just under two hours. Make sure that everything is ready. I want this mission to be as painless as possible. All officers, please send status reports to me ASAP." he heard admiral Loskene say.
Daya went to his station and began a system scan, checking for anything and everything. "Security and Tactical station is good to go sir"

The best thing about never being late is that you get to hear the thoughts of the two highest ranking officer's. Matt didn't mean to hear what they were saying, but he just couldn't help it.
Loskene: Well they'll be in unemployment mode if they don't show up soon. Matt heard the two officer chuckle a bit, but all Matt could do was suppress his laugh. If he did laugh it would of been obvious that he was hearing there conversation.
Loskene: Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen. We'll be departing in just under two hours. Make sure that everything is ready. I want this mission to be as painless as possible. All officers, please send status reports to me ASAP. Since he was already at his station and arguably the longest time. His status report was all ready.
"Captain all systems are reporting operational and are ready to go," Matt asked. "Sir if you don't mind telling me where exactly are we going this mission."

Kristin Hope
One thing that transporter room chiefs rarely did was go to the bridge and luckily for her, it was true here on the Jefferson. She had reported to the Admiral about an hour ago. Where she sense that he wasn't himself, it seemed his mind was elsewhere, but she of course would never say anything, knowing it wasn't her place. One thing that was different about Kristin was the fact that she was very strict in running her department.
Most people wouldn't call transporters a department, but she knew better. Everyone aboard the Jefferson would have to be put under her care and that of her team. She would work them hard and diligently, to make sure that their skills were not misused.
So here she was in front of 12 other people, four people from every shift. Most of them were young, like her, but two of them were clearly veteran Starfleet officers. It was clear from the rank of Chief Petty Officer on their uniform.
"Hello everyone, I'm the new transporter chief of the Jefferson," Kristin began," most of you don't know me and that's okay, but you will. Most of you have slacked off while on duty, never again. Most of you think this position doesn't matter, your wrong. I run a tight shift and if you don't follow the rules your gone." This seemed to surprise the young crewman, who thought they were going to get an easy time with a chief there own age. Kristin was glad to see the smile on the two chiefs faces. She wanted there experience and she thought they would offer it.
"Any questions?" Kristin asked.
"Yes ma'am," one of the young crewman asked," Will be able to do some other work while we are here?"
"Yeah I mean, sometimes days are extremely slow," one of the other crewman asked. Kristin knew this very well, when the transporters weren't not being used, the day seemed to never end. She could not say that she had done some reading, while on her shift.
"Yes, you can and are encouraged to bring some extra work to your shift, the only thing I ask is not to eat or drink anything on the controls," Kristin said jokingly. It had the intended effect and everyone laughed.
"Well lets get this out of the way," Kristin said,"Chief William's you are in charge of Beta Shift, and Chief Perez you are in charge of Charlie Shift."
"Aye ma'am," both chiefs said and left the main transporter room. Kristin was left with four young crewman in front of her.
"Well everyone lets get to work," Kristin said,"crewmen can I have a second?" Everyone turned to see if she was talking to them, but Kristin was just talking to the last two.
"Of course," they both said.
"I'm assigning you to transporter Rooms 5 and 6 on Deck 19," Kristin said remembering the specs of the ship.
"Aye ma'am," they both said. She was left with two other crewmen, who seemed to be working on aligning the transporter pad. Kristin smiled and decided to run an analysis on all transporters. I'm going to like this place Kristin thought.

Jeff was working on the bridge- most of the ship had been put in working order, and starbase personell had certainly helped with the cleaning aspect. he was accually typing a fewreports on the ship's condition when the Sickbay signaled. "Ah, well, I suppose I have to get my physical... Docters don't like waiting." He grumbled. Getting to his feet, he swiched his station to standby. ------ The Jouney to Sickbay had been completly uneventful, and now came the checkup. "Mr. Pudlo?" A voice called out. "Right here." Jeff Said as he walked in. "You're prompt." the Docter ovserved. "I'm Healer T'val. did you Bring Your medical records?" "Yes." he rolled his eyes. "they're right here." he tapped a his vest pocket, from which two data solids protuded. "Why don't we get started then? If you could just lay on the examination bed..." She made it sound like an order. Jeff did as he was told, and she swiched on the moniter above his head. "Routine Immunizations, noting out of the ordanary there. However, I do not belive that this file is quite corrcet: it states that you have only been sick for a period of Three days on end for your life?" "I Don't have time to get sick. I don't know why- It's been a blessing, I guess." "Very well. Notes on excelent Stamina and Muscular Strenth..." "Hardly uncommon." "True. however, now I get to be the Judge." Jeff lay back. from previous experience, this kind of thing took a while.

Johnson was running, a few paces behind his friend Chief O'Malley. They ran, as if for their lives. They stopped after they had entered the Jefferson airlock and the doors had closed behind them.
"I think we lost them." said O'Malley, panting.
"I should report you for what you did back there." said Alex in an annoyed tone of voice.
"Relax. He'll never find us..." replied O'Malley
"Us? That was all you! You know, sometimes I think it's a little too dangerous to be your friend. What if he comes looking for that holodeck program?" Johnson retorted.
"Ah, ye worry too much Alex, me boy. The Jefferson'll be out o' dock soon an' anyway, Morn lives on Deep Space Nine, he'll not be here fer long. Besides, that program is illegal enough as it is." said O'Malley.
"You gotta clean up your act Brian," sighed Johnson, "or they'll kick you out. If you do something like that again, I will have to report you."
"Yes, sir." said O'Malley, rolling his eyes. "I gots to get back te engineering, I'll see ye later."
Johnson walked off, inwardly chuckling. It might be dangerous being friends with Brian O'Malley, but it sure had its moments. Anyway, he hoped that Morn and O'Malley could both put the incident behind them, so that nobody ever had to hear about this sordid affair.
The call came for all crew to return and Alex headed for his post on the bridge.

************************************ Star date: 911002.28 Mission Day: 0 Time: 01030 hours Scene: Main Bridge USS JEFFERSON ************************************
Cmdr Matthew closed the channel with Star Base Assailant Operations Cmdr, Matthew sat in the center seat, drumming his fingers on the armrest of the chair.
He stared intently at the view screen, wishing that they could leave now. But Star Base Control had indicated that the traffic in the area had picked up some and that they couldn't leave until their scheduled 1200 hrs departure time.
“Needless to say, the last hours had moved alone slowly. “He look around the Bridge he could see that all of the senior staff had gather as the Admiral had Ordered he reach over and tap a Button on the center chair Console “
“The computer chirps in Loskene ready room.
Adm, Loskene > yes number One ‘
Cmdr Matthew> sir all of the senior department heads are gathered on the Bridge as you ordered”
Adm, Loskene. Ok number one I’ll be right their Loskene out”
Cmdr Matthew could fill the tension on the bridge it was thick enough to cut through. He didn't need to be telepath to feel that. Even though they were doing their damnedest not to show it, they were eager and ready. So, he just looked at the screen, trying to will the Jefferson to move.
” Lt, Commander Reynolds plied his board, double-checking and rechecking the current ship status reports from the different departments of the ship. So far, he saw that all departments & decks had reported green status and ready to leave.
But, since they were in a was essentially a holding pattern, he had really nothing else to do.
Lt< Cmdr Reynolds looked at the current crew manifest and cross checked again that of the duty roster. Basically anything to keep busy and not idle.
”Ltjg Daya tapped in a series of commands into his console, checking the area around the ship for about the one millionth time. He was still very much concerned about a dozen or so small craft and shuttles that had gathered some 1900 km off the port bow.
LT,jg Daya had been monitoring the group since it formed up. Several of the craft had arrived from Vulcan and the others had emerged from the Star base.
LT, Johnson sat at the helm, rechecking several of his navigational calculations.
Our new Chief engineer Jeff pudlo was sitting at the engineering Station tapping away and barking out orders thru his comm. Link to Main Engineering. Doctor T’Val was sitting in the left of the center chair Deeply absorb in reading something we all where waiting for the Admiral ready room door to open >

T'Val motioned towards Rayna, and the Romulan hurried towards her. "Rayna, please see to Ensign Pudlo's physical would you. I have showed you what to do, please make sure that you do it right."
Rayna nodded and picked up the tricorder, the tip of her tongue protruding between her lips in concentration as she programmed the device. "Right, I think I should be able to manage this. Nervous mr Pudlo?" she asked sweetly, as she closed the diagnostic semi-circle over his torso. "Should be done soon, now let's see."
From a little distance, T'Val watched Rayna for a few seconds, then disappeared into her office to tend to uploading Pudlo's record and the files she'd brought from Assaillant. Several minutes later, she walked back out and saw Rayna still struggling with the physical. "Nearly done?" she enquired, as she approached the woman.
"Yes yes, just a matter of a few bloodsamples, I hope I can get this right though....." She gazed at T'Val, and actually winked.
T'Val was about to say something when she caught her friend's wink and fell silent, crossing her arms over her chest as she watched. "Very well, proceed. Mr Pudlo, do please call if you are experiencing any discomfort. Miis Rayna is training to be a nurse, and she is making quite a headway. Her previous profession was....quite the opposite from nursing."

"That's quite alright. She'll find that I'm a rather boring case study medically- I don't get sick often, all that." Jeff remarked lightly. "If you need anything else, I'll be on the bridge."
On the Bridge, there wasn't much to do. Jeff directed some operations, mainly housekeeping ones. Everything Of any importance had been fixed, it was just a matter of perfecting the intermix formulas and such at this point. While the fleet standard was supposed to get the maximum efficiency out of the Engines, There was a running Competition to see who could get the Engines running at the highest efficiency. And the Jefferson would be in that competition pretty soon- It's engines were already only about 1% behind, and in a competition where .001% made a difference, a 1% improvement over standard was quite good. the Best ships were at about 104.5% percent of fleet maximum ratings- under normal conditions, of course. With a decent Chief Engineer, Any ship could give about 130% or more during an emergency. some, like Montgomery Scott, had even reached 180-200% in extreme cases. Jeff had owned and operated a shop that guaranteed a 5% or greater improvement in Warp efficiency for engines in the private sector. He decided that he would do the same for Starfleet. 105% under normal operating conditions minimum, once he was finished.
"Mr. Pudlo." a voice called his attention. it was the first officer, Commander James Matthew. "Are our Engines ready this time out?"
"100%. And improving steadily."
"Now that is good to hear."

To be honest this was what Matt hated most about missions, the beginning. No one except the Captain or the First Officer knew what their mission was. In this case, Matt thought that only the Admiral knew that answer. Since they had been called to their station's there was nothing that anyone could really do. Matt had already checked every major and minor system on board and everything reported in the clear.
He was so bored that he double-checked and recheked the current ship status reports from the different departments of the ship. But since they weren't moving that really didn't mean anything. After finishing with this broing assignment he looked at the current crew manifest and cross checked again that of the duty roster. He just did this so he wouldn't be at his station and looking at his hands or buttons on the operations console.
It was truly a boring time waiting for the Admiral to say something or come out of his ready room. Then it hit him, in his free time Matt could easily work on his hobby here on the bridge. He knew that it was something that wasn't smiled upon, but if he didn't do something he woudl scream.
"Computer access my computer console in my quarters and download the information into my console," Matt todl the computer.
"Accessing and downloading," the computer said. Matt was happy to see that his work was all intact and he quickly started to study.

Loskene had been alerted that all systems were ready to go. After checking over everything, he entered onto the bridge, and everyone looked anxious to hear the mission and it's objectives. He informed everyone to enter into the conference lounge, so that everything could be explained in detail. Loskene walked to the end of the table and began to speak.
Loskene: I'm sure everyone is wondering about where we are going and what our next assignment will consist of. Why don't you all just take a minute to look over this screen.
The admiral walked over to the screen on the wall and activated it. A diagram popped up, nearly identical to Vice Admiral Olerud's diagram. The crew looked over the diagram, interested, yet Loskene could feel that they weren't sure what they were looking at.
Loskene: This is a map of the area surrounding Starbase Assailant. And this. This black cloud in the south east corner is where we are headed. Our orders are to enter the cloud, and, safety permitting, find out just what it is. Starfleet has only detected it a few days ago. A cargo ship did pass very close to the cloud and was undamaged. Sensor arrays close to the cloud have detected unusual energy output. It's our job to find out the nature of this bizarre new occurance... And this time, I don't think we'll encounter any more "mysteries" like the kind we encountered on our last mission.
Everyone nodded in complete agreement.
Loskene: The first stage of our mission will be to send high class probes into the cloud, and see how much data they can collect. We will then breach the barrier of the cloud, and see if it is safe to enter. Once safe entry can be established, we'll gather all the information we can and then report our findings to Starfleet. We won't be doing all the work, just a few basic surveys. The rest will be handled by the Federation Science Council. So I guess we could be called the lab rats. That is the gist of it. Does anyone have any questions at this time?

The mission breifing peaked Matt's interest, he loved science and this was going to be the first time that he would partake on a scientific mission. Matt thought that it was due time that the Jefferson was given a mission where they weren't put in extreme danger.
"Maybe I shouldn't say anything," Matt whispered to himself. As though the Admiral had heard him, he explained to them that they shouldn't get overconfident and that anything could happen.
"I do have on question sir," Matt said, "Who will be in charge of the scientific portion of this mission?" Matt asked this because as far as he knew there wasn't a chief science officer yet.

Loskene heard Reynold's question, and indeed an Officer in Charge was needed. Loskene had been looking over his officers bios. Originally, we was going to select Healer T'Val for the job, but he felt that she would have her hands full in sickbay, so running the scientific mission would be too much of a workload for one officer to deal with. There was one other officer in the room who Loskene felt could be an asset to the job.
Loskene: Well... I believe you've just answered your own question, Mr. Reynolds. Good grasp of quantum theory, knowledge and experience with DNA, and an OPS officer who knows a thing or two about ship systems. I believe that with your skills, you'd be ideal for the assignment. It's your choice, I don't usually assign an officer to two stations, but I didn't have time to request a transfer of a Science Officer to the Jefferson, so at the moment we are short handed...
Loskene waited for Reynolds answer.

"Technically, we would be guinea pigs," T'Val spoke up, not taking her eyes off the image on the screen. "And I must object to entering a nebula of which we may not know what it might do to us, or how it will affect us."
She paused, still gazing at the cloud. "Sending in a probe would be the most logical course of action," she said flatly, "and after analysis of telemetry coming back from the probe we could consider sending in a shuttle. It is senseless to send in the entire ship."
Her eyes locked gaze with Loskene, who looked rather absentminded to her. She had heard that he was suffering from an old-fashioned hangover and this intrigued her somewhat, from the medical point of view. She'd never been drunk herself, even though she already knew that for her one glass would already be one too many. It would be an interesting experiment to see how much a Species 8472 could take.
She watched the senior staff, watched their reactions to the news of being sent into an unknown nebula, and waited for them to voice their own opinions. She also could very much agree with reynolds being assigned chief of science for this mission. She too had reviewed his background and had come to the conclusion that he was more qualified than her. It didn't even bother her that she wasn't chosen to lead the scientific part. ~I am a doctor, first and foremost~ she thought ~however interesting this may be, my first concern is this crew's health and safety~

jeff reactd to the mission fairly nutrally. Probes were on short order, but the stocks were in fairly good shape.
"Captain, Just so you know, the Jefferson is in good enough condition to make this trip at High warp, and If neccicarry, go inside the cloud- If that's what it really is. Strong Energy Feilds should be no problem."
"Good to know. How are we on fuel?"
"If you want to make the entire trip on Implulse, we could manage that. matter and antimatter we can generate, no problem."
"We can?" an Ensign at Enviromental looked over. "Don't we take on more everytime we visit a starbase?"
"yes, But We can also generate it in an emergency. It's time consuming, but we can do it."
"How are the Warp engines?" Jeff heard the question beneath that one.
"there should not be any problems whatsoever. Engineering is good to go."

This was not what Matt had expected, he wanted to help out the officer that was going to be chosen. In fact he thought that Healer T'Val would be the logical choice, but when he heard the Admiral start reciting some of the information in his bio, he knew that it had come back and bit him in the butt. Still this was the opportunity of a life-time so of course he would take the job.
"Of course Admiral I would love the opportunity to be the temporary science officer," Matt said with a huge smile on his face. Other than operation's this was his favorite realm of study.
"Well then Commander take your station, which ever one you want?" Admiral Loskene responded. Matt quickly looked over Monica's way and motioned her to take his station at ops. Matt then made his way to the science station and reacquainted himself with the science console.

" Sir!" Daya said as he sat up, " i would like to request to help Commander Reynolds with the science. Though i may not be the greatest scientist, i think it would be good for me to activly participate with other crew members, since i have only bee here for a short while"

Jeff's Seat at engineering in the forward looking bridge was quite comfy: The Science one was identical, yet matt Renolds seemed to be uncomforble in it.
"Commander- Don't worry- the chair's accually quite comforable." Jeff tossed over.
"I know- it's Just that I'm used to a different one- and I could swear they've redone the control panel."
"Twice accually. you cna revert it to the old interface- just go to control preferences. I like some of the old Interfaces myself, So I tossed in an option to use them into the Computer's programming. It can go back to a holographic version of the Switches and toggles used on the 23rd century Ships, If you want."
"handy..." Matt mumbled as he found the panel layout he was used to. "Thanks a lot."
"Anytime. You also might notice that the sensor power on this ship is better then a typical Sovern Class. I haven't gotten around to the weapons system yet, but tha's next. so that also means that probes Won't launch at the touch of a button- you will have to wait about ten Seconds while thier loaded."
"Is there anything else I should know about what you've done with the sensors?"
"Only that they work better."

“But on the Other hand the Jefferson is a little bit bigger then a cargo ship and has a lot of fire power on board so let not take any chances be ready for anything the last thing we need is to be colt out there with our pants down”
Lt, jg, Daya > I understand commander”
“Mister Reynolds I will need a detail outline on how you will carry out part one of this mission and what you will need and bye the way the new Mark 9 long range probes have been Transported on board in storage bay 22” you can use that storage bay to make any adjustment to the probe sensors systems.

“Mister Reynolds I will need a detail outline on how you will carry out part one of this mission and what you will need and bye the way the new Mark 9 long range probes have been Transported on board in storage bay 22” you can use that storage bay to make any adjustment to the probe sensors systems. "Aye sir," Matt said sounding a bit over anxious, after he had accepted the job he quickly started working on what he had been assigned to. When Lt. Daya asked to be of use, Matt happily said yes. "Of course, Lt., but only if the Admiral or Commander approve it," Matt said knowing that the Admiral or first officer might need him to do something else. <Tag Daya> Matt pushed some buttons so that the screen that Admiral Loskene had showed the bridge crew appeared at his station. The trip would not be a long one since they were just traveling to the south eastern area of the star base, so he would not have very long to modify the probes to meet their needs. What was worse, the scans that the cargo ship had taken of the anomaly were not of the best quality so Matt couldn't know what the energy burst were. Still it was worse than not having anything. So Matt immersed himself in the scans that the cargo ship had taken. The anomaly was nothing like Matt had come across before. He had seen strange ones of course, who had not, but this cloud was extremely strange. How could something so big not been discovered sooner? How was it possible? Space clouds took millions of years to become stable enough to create energy burst that the cargo ship had reported. Matt quickly came to realize that he would need the entire science department and then some to do complete this mission. The Mark 9 long range probes would do wonders for this mission, but Matt would have to wait to get a little bit closer, to make sure the probes are aligned just right. Before Matt did anything else he did as he was told and made an outline of everything he would need for the first part of this mission. Requisition/ Resources List- Entire Science Department
- Any crew members with scientific background
- Engineering crew
- Level 8 Cutting Beam
- Level 4 Long-Range Anti-proton beam
- Spare Ablative Armor
Step By Step Process- Scan the anomaly as soon as the Jefferson reaches the coordinates with the Long-Range Anti-proton beam
- Use Cutting Beam to clear out approximately 50,000 km to let probes enter cloud
- After establishing safe environment inside spacial cloud send in the Mark 9 long range probes. In case of violate environment use ablative armor to reinforce probes.
- Establish communication with cloud, receive telemetry
- Interpret data and once found safe. The Jefferson enters the cloud
- Find all relative information and data on cloud and report to the Federation
After being satisfied with his outline, Matt sent the information to Commander Matthew's to see if he agreed with his plan. Hopefully the Commander will be able to give him some ideas he didn't think of or make sure that nothing wrong happened. While he waited for the answer from the Commander, Matt decided it would be best for him to go to Cargo Bay 22 and make sure the brand new probes were in working order. "Can all science officer's and crewmembers report to Cargo Bay 22 at 2000 hours for a debriefing," Matt said over the comm.

"Twice accually. you can revert it to the old interface- just go to control preferences. I like some of the old interfaces myself, so I tossed in an option to use them into the computer's programming. It can go back to a holographic version of the Switches and toggles used on the 23rd century Ships, If you want." said Pudlo.
Johnson looked up from the helm station, "Really? That's pretty nifty!"
He fiddled around for the controls for a moment and accessed Pudlo's modifications, "Oops!" said Johnson as he made a mistake and every station on the bridge reverted to the 23rd century design making the bridge look a bit like an old constitution class for a moment.
"Sorry everybody!" said Johnson and put the controls back to the way they were.
A few minutes later Commander Matthew gave the order to take the ship out of space dock. Johnson carried out the routine process with as much ease as usual.

Back on the Bridge, Jeff looked at Johnson, trying not to crack up laughing. "You did that on purpose! Changing the Entire Bridge at once...."
"I don't know what you're talking about." Was his cool reply.
"You know Just as well as I do that that took an extra effort- and I know how the butons are arranged- it couldn't have been an accident."
"I swear, I'm innocent."
"Sure. I need to do a satus check on Engineering, So I'm not going to press the point... But I know how you did it, and trust me, I can do better." With that, Johnson's panel abruptly changed to Early 23rd Century design.
"Hey! that's not fair!"
"It'll cnage back in an hour. in the meantime, I suggest you not try anything fancy." With that, Jeff stepped into the turolift.

Matt knew that this job would not be easy. There were science officers on the Jefferson who thought they deserved the position of Chief Science Officer, but none of them had the experience that was needed. Matt would have to convince the entire science department to accept the change of department command. It was only 1800 hours, but Matt felt that he would need a couple of hours to get acquainted with the probes.
"Cargo Bay 22"
The trip to the cargo bay was unusually long, maybe it wasn't but Matt didn't really care. He was nervous and it really showed. Once the lift reached its destination, Matt let out a sigh of air and walked to wards the bay. Once he entered he saw what must be the most advance probe the Federation has. It was loosely based on the probe that the USS Voyager sent through a dying wormhole. Harry Kim and B'lanna Pairs are genius's Matt thought.
Matt circled around the probes trying to take it all in. After taking it in he stopped at its manual computer and started to work.
2000 hours
Matt no longer looked like a young clean shaved man, but like an old hobo. One thing that never changed with working with machines, was the fact that you would always come out dirty and slimy. Matt quickly realized the time and tried to give himself a quick clean-up but it was to late. Just as he had asked the science department started to show up.
"Damn," Matt cursed under his breath, this was not the best way to make a good impression on his new department.
"Well I see that everyone is here," Matt said pulling back his elongating hair. I'll need to cut it, Matt thought. "As you all know I'm Lt. Commander Matthew Reynolds the, Chief Operations Officer. I bet you must all know that I have also been made Temp. Chief Science Officer." This caused a sequence of murmurs between the people assembled in front of him.
"Also you all know the aspect of our mission. We are to head to the southwestern most region of the Qualinost system to study a newly discovered black cloud," Matt said. To Matt it seemed that some of the people did not know what he was talking about, but he would have to solve that problem a bit later.
"We are going to be heading up the first stage of this mission," Matt started again,"we are to find a way to enter the cloud safely and send in these Mark 9 long- range probes." Everyone had seen the probes already, but no one had yet really looked at it carefully. Those more experience science officer's were awed at the technology that were present on the thing and smiled knowing that they would be one of the first ships to ever use these scientific wonders.
"These are the Mark 9 long-range probes, the most powerful probe the Federation had. They will take in all the scientific information from the..."Matt stopped.
"Does anyone have any idea to what we are going to call this thing?" Matt said realizing that the Dark Cloud was not really a good name for what they were about to study.
"How about we call it the Jefferson Qualinost Cloud?" a person from the back said. This name was met with cheers and smiles. Matt liked the name, it would recognize the Jefferson crew for what they would be doing, but he also knew that this cloud could be something more sinister.
"Okay well then for now we will call it the Jefferson Qualinost Cloud, but it may just turn out to be something else," Matt said," Okay I guess you all know what we are going to do, but I want everyone to know this cloud intimately, is that understood."
"Aye sir," the science people said in unison.

Daya left his station in the capable hands of a young Ensign, he himself went with Matt reynolds and looked at the Mark 9 Probes.
After a few hours of checking things out, Daya looked at Matt and laughed. " man, its easier to get dirty than i thought" Daya looked down at himself and wiped his hands on his pants.
While Matt was making his speach, Daya walked around the probes a bit more and looked them, just looking. "hmm" he said as he looked at himself in a reflection.
