Arriving at engineering, he found Jeff in his office. "Mr. Pudlo, what is it that I so desperately needed to come down and see?"
"not much really." Jeff said with a grimace. "Only Sabotage. The technoligy looks romulan to both myself and my assistant. And right now, it's disrupting the power flow. I can't remove it as is."
Zhuk was stunned for a moment. ~...Sabotage? Why?...~ was all he could think for the moment. "Romulan, you say..." There was only one Romulan onboard his ship...Tedak. What would his reason be for sabotaging this ship?
"Mr. Pudlo, I need you to be quiet about this for now. Concentrate on getting the warp core back online, and keep me informed on anything else you may find."
"That's the frustrating part. it is online, and working perfectly. In fact, the only reason we're together is because it's feeding power into all the systems. If we wne to warp, everything else would shut down. there just wouldn't be enough power to run them. It's the power distrabution network that they got...."
Zhuk nodded at Jeff,a nd left him.
Jeff leaned on the comm buttone after Zhuk Left. "pudlo to Engineering department heads. meet me in my office if you can."
In a few minutes, the heads of computer Control, Dmage Repair, Warpo, Impulse, emergencypower and secondary systems were in his office. "you are the best minds in your departments. Find me a way to get that tihing in the grid off, or rendered useless. And keep it quiet, teh Captain doesn't want this one to spread."
They all started at once.
"one at a time. ideas people?"
"Overlaod it's circuts." one said.
"How?" Mark Rune, the computer cheif, asked.
"it seems that that thing has a seperate control circut." the chief of secondary systems repleid. "we could pout power to that and short it out."
"How do you propose to deliver that Power?"
It went on, until Jeff stepped in. "Alright, can we do it?"
"I suppose if we were prepared for a surge inh our power array we could, but as it is such a surge would be extremly damaging to the system."
"Then lock it down to one area. bounce the surge around in the warp power flow- we're not using those right now- and then we replace them once the surge has died down. Can aynone think of a reason that wouldn't work?"
a chorus of nos arose.
"Right, get working on it. And remember to keep it quiet."

"Let's go." said Alex, piloting the shuttle deftly towards their destination.
As the shuttle moved through space, the console beeped. Alex looked.
"There's a slight irregularity in the plasma flow to the port nacelle...don't worry though, doesn't seem like it's anything serious, compensating." said Alex.
Soon, they had arrived at the designated coordinates.
"What have you got on sensors, Matt?" asked Alex.

Sev chirped inquisitively at Billi, as the young CMO continued to attend to her patients. The bronze firelizard did his best to stay out of her way, but at the same time tried to stay close enough to her to be able to keep an eye on her.
He hissed angrily at a particularly unco-operative patient, who nearly struck out at Billi. He fanned his wings, twittering at the patient, then his twittering changed pitch as he seemed to scold Billi. Yet when the patient calmed down, Sev took the opportunity to land on her shoulder and nuzzle her.

Scene: bridge
"Shuttle is away Colonel," Tedak reported as soon as the Andorian arrived back on the bridge, "and they are coursing steadily towards the nebula." He had been so intent on watching the nebula on the main viewscreen, an action on its own that made his head hurt words than it already did, that he missed the three dots on the tactical screen.
Nut gently clawed at his hand to get his attention, chirping softly. The Romulan looked down at him, and then spotted the dots. "Colonel, three Romulan warbirds are approaching, and they are cloaked." He looked up, almost apologetic. "I am sorry I wasn't paying attention, it seems."
His hands flew over the tactical console. "We have minimal fire power on the phasers due to the power losses, torpedo tubes are out of operation, though perhaps manual launch from the tubes itself is possible. Shields are also minimally operational."

"Let's go." Alex said.
Matt took in some air and let Alex do his job. Matt had met many pilots during his life, but Alex had to be the best of them all. He had saved the Jefferson so many times that it would be useless to even try to count.
Even now, Alex's attention was completely on his flying, not making and conversation and only saying what needed to be said.
Matt was glad that Rin was there with him, but right now he couldn't be thinking about them. He had a job to do and that was what he would be doing.
He was having a hard time penatrating the inside of the cloud. It seemed that the energy outburst in nebula blocked off all scans, but Matt knew how to go around this problem. He in fact had saved one of his probes, but he knew that it wouldn't last long. When he was ready he let the probe go. It took just a couple of seconds for information to come back to his station.
"What have you got on sensors, Matt?" asked Alex.
"Well if I didn't know any better, I'd say that from some interesting power readings this nebula is pretty normal," Matt said confused. The energy readings he was getting told him that a ship couldn't last for long in there, but according to Col. Hrisvalar's mission reports the Dominion ship lasted years.
"Commander what are your orders?" Matt asked.

Enineering was in a flurry. Jeff had assured everyone that this was neccicary, but there were still problems. His staff were accustomed to knowing what was going on.But the romulan manufacture of the device.... "Disturbing, isn't it?" Mrak siad, completing his thoughts.
"Don't sneak up on me like that. I was just thinking that exact same thing." Jeff relied, taken by suprise.
"Sorry. I just wanted to tell you that there's somebody outside your office door. He wants to talk to you."
"Who?"
"A guy nemaed Garcia, apparently. Able's man in damage control."
"Why does he want to speack to me?"
"Something about this process. He says he has to discuss it with you."
"send him in then." Gerry Mrak walked out and let the man in. There was something odd about his appearance, but Jeff could'nt nail it.
"Creman Garcia sir." he said at attention.
"have a seat, but let's keep this quick. why do you ned to talk to me?"
"I have a question."
"one that your immediate superios couldn't answer?"
"Either they can't, or they won't. But I wnat to know just what you plan to do."
It hit Jeff just then- his combadge wasn't starfleet- it was a plain triange- a civilian model.
"I'm sorry crewman, I can't tell you that. need to know basis only."
"Look- I fix things. there is nothing wrong with this ship, other then power not getting where it needs to go. I would appreciate it if you could at least tell me what's going on."
"At the moment, we don't know ourselves." Jeff lied. "dismised."

Tedak had just announced that three Romulan Warbirds had just appeared. ~What else was going to go wrong?~ Zhuk questioned himself.
He wondered if this had anything to do with the sabotage. He couldn't take any more chances. turning toward the security console, Zhuk looked at Lt. Wilson, the Acting CTSO.
"Lieutenant Wilson, detain Ambassador Tedak. If those firelizards get in the way, shoot them!" The Ambassador had an incredulous look upon his face, he couldn't believe it. "What is the meaning of this?" The Lieutenant and another security officer led the Ambassador off the bridge to escort him to the brig.
"Lieutenant Quindara, open hailing frequencies." The assistant ops officer tapped a few buttons before the main view screen came to life with a Romulan face.
"I am Riov Delon, Leih of this task force. Can we be of any assistance?"
Zhukarak let the air fill with a momentary silence while he processed the information he had just been given. It took him just a split second to bring up their ranking system. Riov was a Commander, and Leih meant the commanding officer.
"I am Colonel Hrisvalar, Commanding Officer of the USS Jefferson. We are having some power fluctuation problems, but nothing we can't handle. We have already called for help, which should arrive momentarily." Zhuk had to lie to buy time. He wasn't sure what they were up to.
"Very well, Colonel. We were on our way to Qualinost and thought to render assistance if it was needed. We shall remain in the area until your help arrives, to ensure your safety."
They had just called his bluff. There was nothing he could do at the moment. They were a sitting duck if the human expression was correct. "We thank you for your concern. We will notify you should we be back online before our help arrives."
Facing Lt. Quindara, he gave her the sign to cut transmission. Zhuk headed with determination to the turbolift. An interview with Ambassador Tedak was now in order.
********************************************
His Romulan additions to the power distribution net were working perfectly. Garcia, who had become a Debrune sympathizer, could not have worked his plan any better.
Although the engineering chief did not elude to what was going on, the news that Romulan Warbirds were now in the area was more than Garcia could have asked for. The engineer just knew that these Romulan components, and now these Warbirds, would do more than tear a huge rift between the Federation and the Star Empire. It didn't matter anymore if Tedak was to be blamed or not.

The surprise registering on Tedak's face was genuine; he hadn't expected to be arrested merely because he was a little lax in spotting three cloaked warbirds. His surprise increased when the colonel ordered his friends to be shot if they got in the way. ~surely he wouldn't?~ he wondered, but didn't want to take any chances.
He glanced down at Nut, who sat crouching on the console, ready to defend his master. His eyes were whirling a deep shade of red, mixed with specs of white and he was hissing at the two security guards. Slowly, Tedak shook his head, but a warning chirp from Hrisvalar's blue had quieted the brown firelizard down somewhat. It was as though Theel'ziin wanted to warn his sire not to do somethng stupid.
Instead, the brown took wing and glided down to Tedak's shoulder, while the Romulan diplomat was roughly grabbed by each arm. He knew better than to resist arrest, though he wondered why exactly he was being arrested. ~he better have a good explanation~ he thought grimly ~what else is diplomatic immunity good for?~
Had Kralok been present, Tedak knew the Klingon would've been having a good laugh. Rin on the other hand would probably try to help him. The girl was extremely young, but also extremely bright, and a very quick study. Though he would probably never tell her, he was immensely proud of her, also the way she handled the Klingon brute.
He shook off both guards, insisting he could walk on his own. "You may want to take my blade," he offered, not wanting to be caught with the weapon, or even being accused of trying to assault them if he had wanted to hand over his weapon. "You will find it hidden in my robes, at my left side."
Sure enough, he felt the guard on his left probe his clothing, in an odly respectful manner, and retrieve the blade. "This co-operation may prove in your favour ambassador," the guard said, as he carefully inspected the blade, "I will make certain nothing happens to this, it looks as though it has great value."
"It has," Tedak agreed, as he stepped into a holding cell, hearing the forcefield snap on behind him, "it was a gift from my father, and it is very dear to me. Please do be careful with it, the blade is extremely sharp."
The guard nodded and left him alone. Nut chirped quizzically, as he hopped down towards his arm. "I don't know my friend," Tedak responded to the query, "but I am certain Colonel Hrisvalar has a good reason for doing this. Perhaps it is for my safe-keeping." Yet Tedak sincerely doubted that; something was wrong, and he wasn't being told.

Scene: Shuttle, USS Independence
Before Alex could respond to Matt's question the ship reported an energy build up in the nebula. It was so quick that no one could do much about stopping the damage. There was an electric discharge that hit the Independence and shook it violently.
The discharge was strong, but was not extremely dangerous. Still that didn't mean that it was all good news.
"Commander, it seems that the navigational controls and most helms systems aren't responding," Matt said knowing that Alex wouldn't like this. He knew that this would keep him busy for a couple of hours and he would have to do the work, since he knew the systems.
"Starfleet, I don't if you haven't noticed, but there are three Romulan ships closing in on your ship," Kralok announced. Everyone immediately turned to face the Klingon and Matt immediately went to the console that he was looking at and confirmed it.
"Commander, they are closing in," Matt said," we should get back there."
"Yes we should," Alex said,” Matt fly us back there; I need to fix these controls for us to get there faster."
"Okay," Matt said as he took the helm and turned them around. It strange how easily the shuttle was able to escape from the nebula's gravitational pull, but that was not there primary problem.
"Rin please take operations, Ambassador would you please take tactical," Matt said as he put a course towards the Jefferson and the three Romulan warbirds. It took a lot longer than it should, but they finally got back into communications range, but the ship was contacted first, not by the Jefferson, but by the Romulan's.
"I am Riov Delon, Leih of this task force," Delon said appearing on Matt's screen," are you from the Jefferson?"
Are we from the Jefferson, Matt asked himself, why would they ask if we were from the Jefferson? It seemed so odd, but Matt felt as though he shouldn't say he was from the Jefferson.
"I'm Lt. Commander Matthew Reynolds, from the USS Troy," Matt said," we were sent to help out the Jefferson which sent out a distress call."
"The Troy, where is the Troy?" Delon asked.
"That is not of your concern Leih Riov Delon," Matt said," we appreciate your offer of help but as you can see we do not need it." The Romulan seemed to be angered by this, but said nothing.
The Romulan cut the communications and Matt let out a sigh of relief. Matt saw that the Romulan warbirds were moving off and heading on there way.
"USS Jefferson this is the shuttle Independence from the USS Troy, we are here to help you out," Matt said making sure to keep up the lie just in case the Romulans were hacking into there communications with the ship.

(Please excuse the bouncing back and forth between the characters, but I am trying to play catch up and am going post by post ... hope by the time it’s done it makes sense and gets me caught back up. .. btw it’s great to be back)
[Sickbay]
Billi was busy working in sickbay dealing with the injured when Sev appeared, chattering. She didn’t need to be a telepath or able to understand the small firelizard. She smiled as he settled on her shoulder, allowing her to work freely and keeping out of the way at the same time. She was sure he’d been sent by Tedak to make sure she was ok.
[Bridge]
Rin was still at tactical when Ambassador Tedak appeared on the Bridge. She turned as he exited the lift, her expression one of shock.
~Rin I need your assistance~ he thought, almost desperate. ~the colonel's firelizard~ he explained ~quite a fierce defender~
She tried not to smile hearing his comments in her head and took a minute to note NEVER to upset the Colonels firelizard.
~~What can I help you with?~~ she asked Tedak without appearing to be paying too much attention to him by turning back to the tactical station where she sat.
[Sickbay]
Billi had just turned back to her latest patient, the Senior Marine Officer, who apparently was in a coma. Her features showing concentration as she ran the medical tricorder over his body.
"How is he doing, doc?" the Colonels spoke by her ear. It was a good thing that Nut had twittered when he entered making her aware of him so she didn’t jump, quite as much as she would have otherwise.
She turned to the Colonel and explained the nature of his injuries and the fact he was a coma. His prognosis was uncertain to say the least.
"A possible coma...that bad, hm." the Colonel commented "Do what you can for him. Keep me informed of any changes to his condition. We'll be returning to S47 as soon as we are able to."
“Yes Sir, I will do that. “ She smiled slightly, this was a new command for him and she realized this had to be hard on him. She watched as he left sickbay before turning back to her patient and the rest in sickbay.
[Bridge/Shuttle bay]
Rin shook her head at Ambassador Tedaks comment but followed Ambassador Kralok and Commander Reynolds . She entered the shuttle, stopping at the door.
"Rin, what are you doing here?" Matt asked pleasantly surprised.
"I'm also here to see what you guys will be doing," Rin responded as she sat down.
"Well I'm glad that you are going with us," Matt said smiling.
[Once the shuttle was away from the ship, time unknown]
Rin took the Operations Station, her heart thudding in her chest as she settled in. ~~What’s going on Matt~~ she thought to him.

~~What’s going on Matt~~
Matt turned to face Rin, feeling her confusion and worry. ~I don't know Rin, hopefully we can find out more when we get home.~
It wasn't a feeling that Matt liked to feel, he liked to be in control of the situation and right now he wasn't even close that comfortable feeling. The Jefferson had responded to Matt's communication saying in character. Matt was very pleased to see that Lt. Quindara new to play along with Matt.
"Lt. where is Colonel Hrisvalar and Commander Matthew?" Matt asked trying to send an encrypted message to the ship.
"They are not on the bridge at the present time, they had to deal with some buisness on the ship," Monica responded.
"Okay, fair enough," Matt said," do we have permission to dock and help you guys out?"
As Matt said this he finished his encrypted message which read.
*What the Hell is going on over there?*

It seemed as Monica had to take things into her own hands, and Matt knew that she wasn't that comfortable doing that. Matt was almost positive that Tedak was on the bridge, but that could cause problems if the Romulans were still on listening on.
"Jefferson do we have permission to dock?" Matt asked still keeping in character.
"Y...Yes, Independence you are cleared to dock," Monica said and turned off communications.
"Good girl," Matt muttered as he piloted the shuttle into the docking bay. As soon as the shuttle was secured, everyone seemed to get off the shuttle. Alex got off first presumably telling some of the engineers to fix the shuttle, and Kralok left to Matt could only guess.
"Are you okay?" Matt asked Rin as he prepared final shut down procedures.
Rin stood and turned towards Matt. "I'm fine .." she looked around and seeing no one nearby continued. "Matt what do you think is going on up there?" gazing at the ceiling, indicating the bridge.
"I don't know Rin," Matt said finally standing up," three Romulan warbirds showing up is not an accident, but then it would mean that someone must of told the Romulans and I know that Tedak wouldn't do that."
She frowned "I know he can't be involved in all this." she was nervous and had her senses as open as she could. "I wonder what they want?"
Matt could feel Rin's nervousness and agitation. It was to be expected, especially because of what they had gone through last mission. Matt didn't trust Romulans as a whole and if they were hear they wanted something.
"Rin lets head up to the bridge, we can find out more information there," Matt said as he waited for her to come out of the shuttle.
Rin followed Matt from the shuttle, and tried to swallow everything she was feeling, their connection making what each of them felt even more intense. "Lead the way Commander." She smiled slightly as they moved towards the turbolift together.
Commander, since when does Rin call me Commander, Matt thought to himself knowing that Rin would also pick it up. When they entered the lift, Matt made sure that the lift closed. When it closed Matt lightly took hold of Rin, she was looking straight away and not at him. Matt lifted her chin so that her eyes could meet his.
"Everything is going to be okay Rin," Matt said," I'm not going to let them hurt you."
Rin took Matt's hand in hers. "I'm not worried about myself Matt." She relaxed in his arms as the lift rose. "Something is wrong, very wrong with all this. The Romulans here make me wonder what is going on and who's behind it all."
Matt didn't want to say it, but he knew that he was wondering the same thing. He knew that it wasn't Tedak, he wouldn't do it Matt was 100% sure about that, but then it meant that there may be a traitor on board.
"Rin I know your not worried, but I'm worried for you," Matt said as he kissed her hands. It was just in time as the next second the lift stopped.
--------------------- Scene: Bridge, Deck 1, USS JEFFERSON
She blushed and stepped back to a respectful distance from Matt as the door opened. Their relationship was only known by a few and that was how she wanted it to be. When nobody entered she turned back to Matt. ~~Thank you for worrying for both of us.~~ she let him have the lead as they exited the lift, noting immediately that Tedak was no longer on the bridge.
~No problem, Caleb says I worry to much anyways~, Matt said as he entered the bridge.
"Report"
"The Romulans seem to have stopped moving away, but they are a respectable distance away from us," Monica reported.
"Where is Commander Matthew?" Matt asked sitting down in the first officer chair. He didn't like sitting the Captain's seat and so when he was in command he sat in Commander Matthew's seat.
"He has still not returned, he may of stopped somewhere," Monica said," if you want I can call him?"
"No that won't be necessary," Matt said," Where's Col. Hrisvalar and Ambassador Tedak?"
When he asked that question everyone seemed to stop working, and he didn't know why. He could feel Rin's confusion as well.
"Monica where are they?" Matt asked.
Rin knew even before anyone spoke what had happened and the look of confusion and something between fear and horror crossed her features. She looked at Matt ~~He's been arrested~~ was all she thought to him before anyone spoke. She took a deep breath and composed herself as best she could.
"Monica was he taken into custody?" Matt asked almost horrified at the thought that the blame game was starting again.
"Yes, but I don' know why," Monica said.
"Well then I'm going to go find out," Matt said as he stood and made his way towards the lift.
"Commander I wouldn't do that, Col. Hrisvalar asked to not be disturbed," Monica said almost apologetically.
Rin looked from Monica to Matt, she knew he'd end up in trouble again if he wasn't careful, and she would back him all the way, even if it meant her being sent home in disgrace. She simply shook her head making sure Matt saw her. ~~Wait and see what we can find out about them~~ her head nodding towards the ships outside.
~~Yeah your right, I can't do much now can I~~
"Okay, while we wait for the Col. to come back, I want all departments working on getting us moving and I want constant watch on the Romulans," Matt said as walked to his station and began to work.
~~Thanks for keeping my head cool and out of trouble~~
Rin stifled a laugh and took a stance near the center seats while staying out of the way. ~~Someone has to watch out for you~~ She laced her fingers together behind her back and tried to relax.
OOC: This was a JP between myself and Rin.

Zhukarak reached the brig with Theel'zhiin in tow. During his whole trek there, he was trying to figure out what was going on. Why were they being sabotaged like this...did the Romulan warbirds have anything to do with it...or were they really just on their way to Qualinost and this was a coincidence? Too many questions...too many variables.
"Release the forcefield!"
A security guard complied and deactivated the forcefield from his console. Zhukarak stepped into the confined space that served as a small prison.
"Ambassador Tedak, given the circumstances I had no choice at the time but to arrest you. A Romulan device has been found in engineering that has been the cause of our problems. I had found that out just before the warbirds arrived. When they did, I could not take the chance that you might somehow be involved and I had decided to have you confined on the spot before you could have taken any detrimental action against us."
Zhuk and Tedak looked at each other for a momentary silence before Zhuk came to the heart of the matter.
"Ambassador, I ask you, are you responsible for sabotaging my ship?"
<Tedak>
"Do you have any idea why three Romulan warbirds appeared and are now monitoring us?"
<Tedak>
Zhuk let the answers sink in. He could sense from Theel'zhiin that there seemed to be nothing but truth in Tedak's answers. Zhuk had already formulated that conclusion that he had nothing to do with any of this. The Ambassador's personnel file was filled with mostly praises and commendations for his help since on SBA. There were a few things there that would cause one to raise his eye...but based on the individual circumstances they were not surprising.
"Ambassador, I believe you. Mr. Pudlo is having a problem removing the devices that he has found so far. Perhaps you could go and take a look, you might be able to come up with an idea once you have seen what we are dealing with."
<Tedak>
"Yes, I am releasing you. I have no reason to keep you under suspicion. I could also use you dealing with these Romulans when you are done in engineering."
<Tedak>
"Thank you. I need to get back to the bridge then."
They departed the brig together before splitting apart for their seperate destinations.

Tedak didn't have to wait too overly long before Colonel Hrisvalar arrived. The Andorian didn't look too happy, but he didn't look too convinced either. Quietly, the Romulan lay the book aside that his guard so graciously had given him, and got to his feet. On his shoulder, Nut gave a careful squawk in greeting to the colonel's little blue. Hrisvalar didn't waste time on pleasantries, but instantly started firing away his questions.
"Ambassador, I ask you, are you responsible for sabotaging my ship?"
"I did not colonel," he replied, "even if someone tried to coerce me I would resist that option as long as possible. Also, I do believe I have a sound alibi that accounts for my whereabouts at nearly all times."
"Do you have any idea why three Romulan warbirds appeared and are now monitoring us?"
The Romulan sighed, how often he had wondered this himself. "None colonel, though I would suspect it has something to do with that nebula out there, and the Dominion vessel you recovered during your command training mission."
"Ambassador, I believe you. Mr. Pudlo is having a problem removing the devices that he has found so far. Perhaps you could go and take a look, you might be able to come up with an idea once you have seen what we are dealing with."
"That is reassuring Colonel Hrisvalar," Tedak replied, inclining his head ever so slightly, "and I would be glad to help out your chief engineer, even though I am not engineering trained. My knowledge lies in the tactical area, but I shall most certainly render every assistance that I can in this matter. I take it then, that you are releasing me from this confinement?"
"Yes, I am releasing you. I have no reason to keep you under suspicion. I could also use you dealing with these Romulans when you are done in engineering."
"I will inform you when my task with Commander Pudlo is done, and will then return to the bridge. In the mean time, perhaps Ambassadors Rin and Kralok can attempt to reason with the Romulans should the need arise. I don't trust Kralok, but Rin has performed above my expectations, especially for one so young as she."
"Thank you. I need to get back to the bridge then."
Tedak picked up his book and stepped out of the cell. "I shall head to engineering but first I have to recover something that belongs to me." While Hrisvalar walked out of the holding cell area, Tedak approached the guard. "I thank you for the loan of this book, I will certainly look it up in the library when I have time to do so. In the mean time, could I please have my blade back?"
The guard looked up in surprise, but quickly masked it. He had seen his commanding officer enter the brig area, but had also seen him leave unharmed. "Certainly ambassador," he answered politely, as he produced a carefully wrapped package, "I took good care of it, as I promised."
"Much appreciated lieutenant," Tedak replied, as he resheathed the weapon in the folds of his robes. "It may not be an advanced weapon, and it may be mostly ceremonial, but it certainly works for me. I will not touch any other kind of weapon if I do not need to." He gazed down at the guard's phaser with disdain. "Certainly not a phaser, they are not infallible." With a final nod, he walked out of the holding cell area and entered the nearest turbolift. "Engineering."
Seconds later, the Romulan entered main engineering. "Commander Pudlo, I understand you have a problem with some Romulan technology. Colonel Hrisvalar sent me to see if I could render my assistance."

Scene: Bridge, Deck 1, USS JEFFERSON
The hustle and bustle of the bridge was only heightened by the tension on the bridge. The crew of the Jefferson didn't have good relation with the Romulan Star Empire. They had almost all been killed by there citizens and everyone wouldn't mind have a go at them, but that was not why they were here.
Matt had redirected most of his attention to the Romulans, but he couldn't help and think about the nebula they were supposed to be studying. Could it be that the Romulans knew about what was found there? Could it be that they thought that the Dominion were still in there? All these questions and thoughts were running through his head and it just have him a huge headache.
"Commander I'm reading some unusual readings from the nebula," Monica reported from her console. Matt's head jerked immediately in her direction which caused him a crank in his neck.
"What type of readings?" Matt asked holding his neck while he walked up next to Monica.
"I don't know sir, but it seems to have attracted the attention of the Romulans," Monica reported.
"What, you got to be kidding," Matt said rhetorically. "How long until they reach the nebula?"
"Thirty minutes, the distortions from the nebula won't let them go much faster than that," Monica reported.
"Okay good," Matt said.

"Hail them" --------------------- Scene: Riov Delon's warbird
"The Troy, he never said anything about there being any other ship in this sector," Riov said as he hit his console hard with his fist. There plans were going as planned, until that shuttle appeared. "Do our records show where the Troy should be stationed?"
"No Leih, they do not," the Romulan officer reported," our latest records show that they should be at Assailant, but that was a month ago."
Roiv was known to loose his composure when his plans were sidetracked, but this time he made sure not to show any weakness.
"Leih, our sensors are showing some unusual readings coming from that nebula," the Romulan officer reported.
"What type of readings?" Riov asked.
"Don't know sir, our sensors cannot pick it up yet," the officer reported.
"Okay, contact the two other birds and tell them to stay here, we will go investigate," Riov said as he motioned for the helmsman to begin moving in the nebula's direction.
"Sir the Federation ship is hailing," the romulan officer said.
"Commander Reynolds, I'm surprised to see you again so soon," Riov said knowing now that he had just been fooled by a human.
"Why are you turning around Leih," the human officer asked.
"We are interested in the nebula, its our diplomatic right to study this type of phenomena," Riov said knowing that wasn't true, but he was counting on that Tedak was would be in the Brig and no other Ambassador on board.
"Diplomatic right?" the human asked," the nebula is in Federation space and its currently being studied by us."
"Commander you at the moment cannot even move so you cannot do much," Riov said with a smirk. He was always happy when he knew that he had the upper hand.
As the two talked, Riov couldn't help but see the rest of the senior staff walk onto the bridge, and he was glad that Tedak was not one of them. They didn't need him anymore, but him suffering was just an added bonus.

"Commander Pudlo, I understand you have a problem with some Romulan technology. Colonel Hrisvalar sent me to see if I could render my assistance."
"yes, I could use your help. Quite a bit of it, accually." Jeff was sitting behind heis desk. "I want you to take a look at this, and to help figure out a way to disable it without destroying our power distarbution network." He tossed Tedak a PADD with he specs on it. "Do you have any clue as to the orgin of that design? Not the parts- those are confirmed Romulan, but he design?"
Tedak was about to say something, but just then Reynold's intercom call came through.
"Sorry Lt. Commander, I'm rather busy with the ambasitor right now. You might have a situation, we have one." he nodded to Tedak. "Sorry about that, what were you about to say?"

Zhuk had made it back to the bridge to witness the warbirds studying the nebula. "Report!"
"They insist they have a right to investigate the nebula." Matt had responded as he returned to his Ops console.
"We don't have much of a choice for the moment. Let them. Contact S47 end aprise them of our situation. In the meantime, we have a saboteur to catch...and I have an idea...."
Everyone looked at Zhuk in wonderment as they had just been informed of a saboteur on board. Zhuk noticed the looks and realized that he should probably clue them in as well. He stood up in the center of the bridge where he could address them all. There was no time to go to the Observation Lounge or conference room.
"Mr. Pudlo has discovered a few engineering device attached to our systems. They are of Romulan origin. That is why I had Ambassador Tedak detained...for questioning. He has been released and is helping us. I don't know what these Romulans have to do with all of this, but we need to set a trap."
Everyone processed what he had just said and they all looked around at each other. "I'm going to make a ship wide announcement that we have solved the problems and that we will be on our way shortly. Mr. Reynolds, I want you tp monitor and scan all engineering access panels after this, and guide Lt. Wilson's security teams to the locations check anyone who opens one. I have a feeling that someone is going to want to check on one of his devices."
Everyone took their posts while Zhuk prepared his little speech. Tapping his chair console, he opened the ship wide intercom system. "Attention all decks, this is your Captain speaking! We are currently making some final repairs to our engines, and we will be on our way to return to S47 shortly."
Tapping his console again closed the intercom system. Zhukarak looked expectently at Matt while he was looking over his console for any signs of access panel or jeffery tube openeings in engineering.

Taking a closer look at the design of the device that was nested into the power distribution system, Tedak shook his head, almost disappointingly. "It looks like something I may have seen when I was younger, but I can't be sure." He waved the PADD at the chief engineer. "Would you mind if I take this with me, and have a little chat with the Klingon Ambassador? As Klingons used to have an affiliation with the Romulans, he might come up with a few ideas."
He gazed back down at the specifications. "It looks oddly familiar, now that I look at it again though," he added, almost absendmindedly, "can I have a look at the real device?"
<Pudlo>
Just then, Colonel Hrisvalar's voice resounded through engineering. "Attention all decks, this is your Captain speaking! We are currently making some final repairs to our engines, and we will be on our way to return to S47 shortly."
Raising an eyebrow, very much in Vulcan fashion, Tedak gazed at the chief engineer. "And how would he accomplish that, when powering up the engines would overstress the power network, endangering this ship and her crew?" Then it dawned on him. "Our Romulan friends out there are listening in," he grinned, "ooh smart, colonel and very shrewd!" He tapped the PADD. "Anyway, you were going to show me the real device, and then I was going to see Kralok."
<Pudlo>
bridge After Pudlo had shown him the device, Tedak found his way back to the bridge where he was welcomed back by friendly smiles and nods. ~that's a pleasant surprise~ he thought, as he sought out the Klingon. "Ambassador Kralok, I could use your assistance." ~that'll get him off your back for a bit~ he thought, smiling at Rin, knowing she'd hear.
<Rin>
Tedak tapped the PADD. "This piece of technology is very interesting and it looks familiar to me. As Klingons and Romulans used to share technology, perhaps you could assist me on this. Working together, we might solve our little problem." He waved the PADD at the main viewscreen. "It's that, or being bold and beam to one of their warbirds and acquire the solution to our problem there."

(Once again bouncing back and forth between Billi and Rin, I felt Billi had been inactive long enough)
[Sickbay, USS Jefferson]
=^=Bridge to all Bridge officer's please report to the bridge, we may have a problem=^=
Billi wasn’t normally one of the bridge officers but she was anxious to know what was going on up there. She turned to one of the senior med-techs and left them in charge, now that things were finally calming down in sickbay. She picked up the firelizard and placed him (?) on her shoulder, before departing sickbay, the doors finally working again.
“Let’s go see what is going on up there Sev.” she said quietly as the small creature chirped from his perch.
[Bridge, USS Jefferson]
She slipped out of sickbay and headed for the turbolift, which rose too slowly for her towards the bridge. “Come on ... come on.” she muttered impatiently. The lift soon opening onto the bridge. She stepped off the lift and stood nearby, but out of the way.
Billi heard Matt and bit her lip as she watched Matt and the young Ambassador.
"Rin, I'm not an ambassador, you are," Matt said," if something starts to happen, I'm trusting that you will butt in to stop this from escalating."
Rin looked over towards Matt and moved to stand next to him, “I’ll do my best Sir.” she replied quietly, allowing her mind to focus and become empty.
She glanced up as the Lt. Col. joined them and relaxed slightly, keeping her empathic senses heightened. She smiled as Ambassador Tedak joined them.
~that's a pleasant surprise~ he thought, as he sought out the Klingon. "Ambassador Kralok, I could use your assistance." ~that'll get him off your back for a bit~
Rin could not suppress a slight laugh hearing the Ambassador in her head. ~~Thank you~~.
Billi nodded as Tedak joined them on the bridge, she’d have to ask him what went on after he had left sickbay, but now was not the time or the place.

"We don't have much of a choice for the moment. Let them. Contact S47 end apprise them of our situation. In the meantime, we have a saboteur to catch...and I have an idea...."
When Colonel Hrisvalar ordered them to contact Section 47, Matt immediately went about to do that, but he stopped dead in his tracks when he heard the rest of Colonel's Hrisvalar's message. At first Matt thought that he had heard incorrectly, but the faces of the bridge crew told him otherwise.
Matt was about to ask if the Captain was joking, but nothing came out. It seemed as his voice had left him. Matt was started to sweat with concern and anxiety. Luckily for them Colonel Hrisvalar was there to guide them through this, he had kept his cool when everyone else had not.
"I'm going to make a ship wide announcement that we have solved the problems and that we will be on our way shortly. Mr. Reynolds, I want you to monitor and scan all engineering access panels after this, and guide Lt. Wilson's security teams to the locations check anyone who opens one. I have a feeling that someone is going to want to check on one of his devices."
"Aye Captain," Matt responded as he sent out a Priority one message to Starbase Assailant and Section 47 HQ. After making sure that the message got through Matt got to work on his station. With a few, slight touches of his fingers the console gave him total control of all engineering access panels and other such systems. He would not let this saboteur a chance to do any more damage.
"Attention all decks, this is your Captain speaking! We are currently making some final repairs to our engines, and we will be on our way to return to S47 shortly."
As the Captain said this message to the rest of the ship, Matt realized who else was on the bridge. Matt was glad to see Tedak at the tactical station accompanied by Kralok. Rin was also near by, making sure that she could be useful in any way. Matt felt a surge of emotion towards her at the moment, he couldn't place it, but it warmed his heart and calmed him down.
It was a short scan of the bridge, but Matt was comforted to know that his friends and good people where there with him making sure that this escalating problem would be resolved quickly.
As soon as his attention was back at his console, it beeped at him telling him that something that wasn't supposed to be happening was. Matt immediately identified who was accessing the panel, but was surprised when he couldn't identify who this person was.
=^=Reynolds to Lt. Wilson, lead your security teams to Deck 9, the Deuterium Injector Assembly. Someone is tapping into the injector manifolds leading to the warp core.=^=
=^=Understood, Wilson out.=^=
"Captain I think that we got our man," Matt said apprising him and everyone else of what was happening as he spoke.

The ship wide announcement had gone out. Zhuk observed how Ambassadors Tedak and Kralok were trying to work together on the origin of the device that was found in engineering. Zhukkarak took his seat to wait.
Commander Reynolds' console gave a familiar beep...an an intrusion alarm. Zhukarak turned around in his chair to see the actions of his COO.
"Reynolds to Lt. Wilson, lead your security teams to Deck 9, the Deuterium Injector Assembly. Someone is tapping into the injector manifolds leading to the warp core."
=^=Understood, Wilson out.=^=
"Captain I think that we got our man," Matt said apprising him and everyone else of what was happening as he spoke.
"Some good news for once!" Zhuk rose to exit the bridge. "Tell Lt. Wilson to take the prisoner to the brig and that I'm on my way there."
*******************************************
When he heard the ship wide announcement, he wasn't sure if he had heard right. Garcia was sure that his devices were better hidden than that, at the very least he had enough of them out there that they surely couldn't have found them all.
He quietly made his way to the Deuterium Injector Assembly to check on one of his devices. After opening the access panel, he had to crawl halfway in to see the device. Garcia became confused when he spotted what he expected to see. It was still there.
Backing out of the access, he was pondering why the announcement was made. It wasn't until he was all the way out when he finally realized why, which was confirmed by the security greeting party that was now standing behind him. It had been a trap.

"We should just destroy our enemy," Kralok roared in his fashion," the Klingon Empire does not run from its enemies."
"Destroy? Yes that would be the Klingon way wouldn't it?" the Romulan retorted, "the Romulans would sooner destroy themselves before they would give you that satisfaction. No, we must go about this differently, we must outsmart them."
"You are right, we must work together to kill these filth," Kralok said knowing that unfortunately science would be needed in this instance. Kralok was a Klingon of old, one of battle and few words. It was a surprise to even himself when the Chancellor made him an Ambassador.
"Tedak I have to agree with your statement," Kralok said looking at the PADD that the Romulan was holding," this looks like Klingon technology. Though its meager compared to what we have now."
"Klingon technology is Klingon technology," The Romulan diplomat smiled, "however obsolete it may be. The fact is that the Romulans may be trying to blame the Klingons for something that they didn't do. However killing them is not the way. How would you feel if you and I were to sneak our way aboard their ship and use their own technology on them? It might make them appeal to us for assistance."
The Romulan's eyes were gleaming with excitement, and his brown firelizard who was now perched on the table before them, echoed that sentiment.
"Tedak, I am a warrior and a diplomat, not a scientist, but I wiil give you the honor of leading this attempt to discover the secrets of our common eneny," Kralok said proudly.
"Honour?" Now Tedak laughed out loud. "Where is the honour in sneaking upon the enemy and give them the fright of their lives? No my friend, there is no honour in this, just self-preservation. But it is something that must be done. Come, we shall ask Colonel Hrisvalar for permission to start a little expedition to that Romulan ship."
Together they walked back onto the bridge, the Klingon smiling heartily, clapping the Romulan fiercely on his back. The strength of it made the Romulan stumble, but he quickly caught himself. His gaze caught Billi's and he smiled brightly, striding towards her with quick steps. Quickly, he gave her a kiss before anyone would notice, whispered a few words at her, then returned to the centre of the bridge.
"Colonel, Ambassador Kralok and I believe that the solution to our problem lies on that Romulan vessel. We seek permission to covertly beam aboard their vessel and acquire the solution to our problem. We need someone with more tactical expertise to accompany is, should you give permission, preferably someone with experience in covert operations."

Before Zhukarak could leave the bridge for the prisoner, he was approached by Tedak and Kralok with a plan to covertly install the device onto one of the Romulan warbirds.
"Ambassadors, we currently have no proof that they are involved at all. If we were to board their ship and be discovered, we could very much have bigger problems on our hands, especially if they are truly innocent. We have a suspect in the brig, perhaps he will shed some more light onto this subject. Then we shall see who all is involved. You are welcome to join me."
Together, with Rin Damis in tow, who was also invited, they went to the brig to see who the culprit was. Zhuk hoped this mystery would be solved soon.
Arriving, they all viewed the man sitting in his cell, on the other side of the forcefield, an engineering lieutenant. Zhukarak did not recognize him, of course he currently didn't recognize 99% of this crew yet. He looked up as they all approached. The forcefield was released in order for Zhukarak to enter.
"Lieutenant Garcia, if I am correct with your name, would you care to explain your actions that involve the crippling of my ship?"
"Not really." He sat there with a smug face.
Zhukarak turned to look at the Ambassadors standing on the other side of the entranceway. With one quick motion that took Zhuk two strides to complete, he grabbed Garcia's collar, lifted him a half a meter off the floor, and pinned him against the wall of the cell.
"Listen to me, I will do whatever it takes to protect this ship and its crew. You have left us helplessly adrift, and there are three Romulan Warbirds out there, who can tear us apart at any minute of their choosing. I have no qualms of letting you drift out of an airlock with the rest of our non-recyclables and list you as missing."
Garcia's face revealed small droplets of perspiration, a small sign that fear was starting to set in. Zhuk's eyes were still locked with his, awaiting a response.
"I am part of a small group that doesn't believe that we should be involved in the politics of the Debrune, and that we should be helping or supporting the resurrection of their race."
"How are the Romulans involved?"
"They aren't. The devices were just made to make it look like they are."
"Why?"
"To cause a greater rift between the Federation and the Romulans, to make it more difficult to support the Debrunes."
"Then why are there Romulan Warbirds out there?"
"I don't know! I really don't know...pure coincidence...I swear!" Garcia was pleading by now.
"How many others on my ship?"
"I'm the only one. We are a very small group. One on each vessel in the fleet and a few others on the starbases."
Zhuk believed him. He tossed Garcia's body toward the bench, where he did not fall too graciously, and proceeded to exit the cell. Ambassador Tedak was the first to speak.
"That's it? You believe him?"
Zhuk brought his face to within a hair's breath of Tedaks' and looked him straight into the eyes. "Don't tell me that you doubted my words when I said I would toss him out of the airlock?" A few long seconds of silence passed and before Tedak could formulate a response, Kralok chimed in. "I still would!" He slapped both, Zhukarak and Tedak, onto their backs and they all started to laugh.
*********A few hours later***********
Garcia had given up all of his accomplices that were scattered throughout S47, which was immediately relayed back to SBA. The Romulan Warbirds were indeed on their way to Qualinost for one meeting or another, and had stopped on their way to study the Nebula.
The shuttle team had gotten enough information of the nebula with their scans earlier. There was no more need for them to study it any further. Jeff Pudlo and his teams needed a couple of more hours to make a thorough systems check, before they were on their way back to SBA. It seemed they had averted major trouble and still completed their mission.

Tedak watched with growing amazement as the Andorian marine fearlessly entered the cell. ~he's a marine~ the Romulan reminded himself ~what do you expect?~ On his shoulder, Nut wrapped his tail around his throat after settling down, chirping quizzically into his ear. Yet when the marine commanding officer threw the engineer up against the wall and holding him there, Tedak stepped forward, ready to intervene.
Soon enough though, it was over and Hrisvalar emerged from the cell. "Don't tell me you believe his story?" Tedak asked, sincerely doubting that the Romulans would pass up an opportunity to gain more intelligence on the Federation, and might use Qualinost as a cover to do so. He knew better than to assume that all Romulans would...as he knew that there were those who were willing to co-operate with the Federation, and share technology. Those numbers were few, but they were there.
Tedak glared at the Klingon, Nut hissing in anger when his bondmate faltered in his step. "Doubt your words?" he echoed, his gaze never wavering from Hrisvalar's. "No I wouldn't put it beyond you, even though it is not the Starfleet way. But since you are a Marine, and a commanding officer I also don't think you would carry out your threat."
~this reminds me once more not to get on his bad side~ he firmly reminded himself. He knew Andorians were a volatile species to begin with, and this one certainly was one to be reckoned with. "Perhaps we should ask these Romulans for assistance after all," he suggested, "since apparently they are on their way to Qualinost. Perhaps they are willing to assist us in removing that device Mr Pudlo is so anxious to get rid of."
With that, he turned on his heels and left the brig area. However not before pulling Rin aside. "What do is your opinion on this all?" he asked her, then thumbed in the colonel's direction, "and how would you have done this?"
<Rin/Zhuk/Kralok/anyone else>
Minutes later, the Romulan found himself on the brdige once more, cheerfully greeted by bronze Sev who had remained with Billi ever since he had first left sickbay. Nut chirped a greeting in response, briefly hovering before Billi to give her a proper greeting then returning to his usual perch on Tedak's shoulder. "I have some stories to tell you when we get off duty," Tedak whispered at Billi, "though I'm not certain you'll like all that I'll tell you."
