OCC: Sorry I had not posted in awhile, I was fighting a really nasty writers block.
"That might be a problem. You can't very well beam it out that way along with the Brain. They wouldn't be directly connected. You mentioned the problem of the power surges. Perhaps we could put a regulator between the capacitor and the Brain. A second capacitor, if you will, that can store the energy and send it in more realistic amounts. On the other end of the capacitor will have to be a power source of some kind, as capacitors are mainly batteries and don't make their own power." Paria said.
McLean took a moment and thought about what Paria said, and it made sense in his head. He would have to rework his idea to tailor it to a more mobile approach.
“What we could do is wire up this phaser capacitor directly to the brain instead of going through the replicator system, then what we could do is use a universal connection as a hook up between the power source of our ship to the brain’s final destination. It could kill two birds with one stone; transport issues and can be run as an emergency back up power system.
McLean’s gears where now turning faster than they had before. He began to wonder around the cargo bay area some more to find the last parts he needed to make his idea work. All he would need is a universal Federation connection, but it seemed there where none in the storage bay. I might have to pirate it off a subsystem, McLean thought as he pinched his bottom lip.
“Thanks for you help.” McLean said walking out of the cargo bay still repeatedly pinching his bottom lip as he continued to think.
Walking back into Engineering McLean caught the last bit of the conversation between Joktel and Dr. BeTor. It seemed that the combined thought of both people had come up with a possible new home for the brain, the aerowing.
McLean informed Joktel of the new arrangement he had come up with the help transport the brain and with his approval McLean made his way to the brain’s location to start his work. Nervously McLean entered the room in which the brain had begun its expansion.
“I am only here to wire up this power regulator and capacitor so we can safely move you.” McLean said to the room as he entered it.
The room was deathly silent only the sounds of a working containment field keep the brain stationary could be heard. McLean walked slowly and cautiously to the brains location. McLean jumped a bit as the force field opened up two small holes for McLean to run his hands and wires through to work inside the containment field.
“Thanks.” McLean said wiping off the sweat from his brow.
Setting down his tools McLean pulled out the fairly large capacitor and pushed it through the containment field, nearly doubling the size of the field after setting it in place. Next he had pulled out wires he acquired from the cargo bay, they were large high volume wires capable of supporting the charging and usage needs of the brain at any time it wished. McLean knew nobody was going to be using the holodecks so he took two universal Federation connectors from the main holographic relays from the holodecks to use on the brain for its connections. Slowly and carefully McLean applied the connection to the top of the gel pack, it snapped into place as he had hoped it would. Connecting the first universal connector to another large cable McLean ran the cable from the universal connector to a small power regulator. As it snapped into place McLean doubled checked the continuity of the connection with a small tool that ran a small charge through one side and to the next lighting up a small diode on the second connection to show a good sound connection.
“Looks good.” McLean said out loud.
McLean pulled out a small tricorder from his tool box and set it up on the ground to begin to scan for a suitable electrical power source with in the walls running to the replicator the brain was currently using. Spotting a side shoot out of the main system McLean pulled off the wall cover to find a universal female connector. He then pulled out a small PADD and shut down the side branched off power system as to not overload the regulator when he plugged it in.
“Alright, that is looking good,” McLean said out loud, “Wait, why am I talking to myself.” McLean shrugged it off and went back to work.
After a few minutes McLean had connected all the wires and made sure everything was running in the green before he slowly began to bring up the power to the branched off power source in the wall. Picking up his PADD and the tricorder McLean watched the tricorder readings for any slight power surges while he slowly began to bring the electric levels back up to 100%.
McLean smiled as the power system reached 100% and the capacitor was slowly charging. He could adjust the regulator to the brain once he determined how much time they had until the aerowing was ready to accept the brain, until that point he kept the charging rate at a moderate 25% knowing he wanted to make sure the capacitor had the longest possible life. Scanning with the tricorder he found the capacitor would take two hours to full charge at the rate of 25%, while at the same time giving it the longest possible life, approx 24 hours, giving the brain was running at the lowest power settings it could run at.
“McLean to the bridge, the brain is set up. The capacitor is charging and at its current rate of charge it will be fully charged in two hours.”

Alex sighed. "Do either of you see me as having any alternative?" he asked Dan and Brine.
Brine shook his head quick and abruptly, while Dan did so slowly and sorrowfully.
"Very well," Alex said finally. "I'll do it."
“McLean to the bridge, the brain is set up. The capacitor is charging and at its current rate of charge it will be fully charged in two hours.”
Dan tapped his commbadge. "Understood, Ensign. Transfer the Brain to the Aerowing when you're ready. The Captain will be accompanying it."
"Sir?" McLean replied in confusion.
"You have your orders, Ensign," Dan replied simply. "Bridge out."
Dan now turned to Alex. "Well sir, looks like you've got 2 hours to pack."

McLean had stopped in his tracks when he heard the Captain was going to be going along with the Brain. He was shocked first because of the Captain’s willingness to depart the ship with the fledgling ‘life form’, what came to McLean’s mind next was an engineering aspect. Nobody had been considering making room for a human pilot to accompany the brain though out this trip it would be taking.
McLean bent down one last time to take a look at the charge rate to double check it was looking good. Excellent, everything looks good, McLean thought leaving the tricorder on the ground next to the brain as he walked out of the room and headed down to the shuttle bay where the aerowing was being stored.
As he walked he noticed a change in the mood of the ship, it was no longer dark in some place leaving the hairs to stand on the back of your neck as you passed through. The light levels had all gone back to normal, the hum of the ship had returned to normal, there were no fires anywhere and chatter could be heard in the corridors of the this fine Intrepid Class ship. I wonder who knows the Captain is going to be leaving with the Brain, and for how long? McLean was deep in personal thought as he made his way to the shuttle bay almost leveling a young female crewman as he turned a corner to enter the shuttle bay.
Entering the shuttle bay McLean noticed a small engineering team around the aerowing already. Walking closer McLean wondered if they were to be doing the refits to make it accessible for a human pilot. As he approached McLean noticed the engineers were mostly enlisted men who nodded to McLean as he passed by.
“How is everything looking gentlemen?” McLean asked to the crowd.
“We have the containment field in place sir, this bird is ready for its new pilot.” A crewman answered.
McLean took it upon himself to inspect the cockpit of the aerowing craft. He was surprised to find just about everything in order. There was a decent amount of room for the Captain to get to the pilot’s chair, in fact the ship looked as if it was not modified at all. The engineers incorporated a simple slider tray for the brain along with its own containment field inside the ship to hold the brain during the trip to its new home. Looking inside the tray McLean spotted only one problem a power outlet.
“Crewman,” McLean said motioning toward the slider tray, “We need to get a universal fitting in here to connect the brain up to ships power for the trip.”
Closely eyeing the slider try the crewman nodded his head realizing they had forgotten a small piece of the puzzle.
“Sorry sir.”
“No need to be sorry, this was a hard refit it could have happened to anybody. The brain should be down in a few hours; this gives you plenty of time to get a spare universal fitting and some cables to connect to ships power.” McLean said sounding friendly.
“I will get right on it sir.”
McLean nodded his head and left the engineering crew to finish up their work on the aerowing while McLean decided to inform the Captain of the progress. Walking to a distant cover of the shuttle bay McLean tapped his COM Badge.
“McLean to Captain Dixon.”
“Dixon here.”
“Captain I have just looked over the aerowing and I am happy to report everything is in good working order.”

Zoarial just couldn't believe his ears. Alex Dixon was going to leave the ship, just because a stupid gelpack wanted to. Suddenly Zoarial wished that he had been by Alex' side more often this mission, but now it was too late for that.
Zoarial hoped that Alex would change his mind, and figure a way to stay on the Raven, but all hope faded away when Alex turned to the doors to head for his room to pack his bags.
Zoarial knew that he had to be fast, hurried to the doors and caught up with his captain a couple of meters down the hallway.
"Permission to speak freely sir," Zoarial asked, after he halted Alex by placing a hand on his shoulder. He wanted to say this as a friend, not as a crewmember.
"Permission granted." The captain said, with an inquisitive look in his face.
"I'm going to miss you Alex," Zoarial said.

Since the departure of Nurse Packer from his quarters Nathan had done very little. He had remained in the dark for a good few hours but soon he began to return to relative normality. He had reactivated the lights and had changed into a fresh uniform. He still craved the drug, but he found that if he did not think about it, or look at his shaking hand then it was bareable. The next thing to do was to get out of his confinement or else he truly would go insane.
He activated the station on his desk and managed to gain access to Tactical on the Bridge through the use of his codes, obviously the crew did not have the time to deactivate them.
Now all he needed to do was deactivate the lock on the doors to his quarters. His comms were down so he couldn't just ask... He wondered how long the senior staff thought he could be cooped up in there for...

"You've got two hours to pack" Dan Trek said quietly.
Two hours? Not very much time Alex thought to himself. Turning sadly, he walked into his ready room to pick up the few personal effects he had there. He was poking around the corners of the room when a hand on his shoulder surprised him. Turning, he could see Zoarial had quietly entered the room. "Permission to speak freely sir."
Surprised, Alex replied "Permission granted."
"I'm going to miss you Alex" the Klingon said slowly.
Alex nodded in agreement, then held his hand forward in the traditional Klingon fashion. Zoarial looked down, then extended his as well and they grasped each others' forearms. "May you find glory, honour, and die well" Alex intoned.
"reH nay'meylIjyIn Dujablu'jaj " the CNO replied.
Alex laughed a little and shook his head. His Klingon was up to translating that. Zoarial stepped back and waited by the door as Alex picked up the last of his things and walked out of the Ready Room without looking back. He mounted the stairs, paused and turned around. The bridge crew was staring at him. "It's been an honour to serve with all of you." Then he turned and walked onto the turbolift.

E'Liana made her way back up to Sickbay surprised at the latest news. ~He's certainly acting as a Captain...but surely he has family to consider?~ she mused to herself.
She arrived back at Sickbay and saw Nurse Packer. She was taking it worse than the young Doctor; she had known the Captain for a while longer than E'Liana. "I know it's his duty" Said Joy, " - but I still think you should stop him somehow...you're the doctor!"
E'Liana mused over this for a moment or two. "It is not my place to question his authority on such a matter. I know he is mentally stable, and capable of making such decisions...however, he does need to come and see me." She nodded to the Nurse and went into her office to pick up a medkit before going to see the Lieutenant. Someone had to tell him the news.
"BeTor to Dixon"
"Dixon here."
"Please report to Sickbay for a medical checkup before your...departure...I need to check you're physically up to this, and you need to take medical supplies for both yourself and the brain. Come when you're ready..."
<Tag Dixon>
She felt a little awkward talking to the Captain, as he was about to leave, presumably never to be seen again. However, she took such sentimentaility to be from her mother's side and tried to ignore it and get on with her job.
As she got her medkit ready, she suddenly realised that in order to teach the Captain how to look after the brain, he would need not only medical knowledge, but engineering as well.
"BeTor to Joktel"
"Joktel here."
"Please could you or an engineering staff member either come up to sickbay or write some instructions for the Captain regarding the brain as soon as possible. He needs to know how to look after it effectively if he's to be with it for a while."
<Tag Engineering>
Having set everything in motion, she decided to go and see the Lieutenant and see how he was getting on, as Nurse Packer had not managed to scan him.
~*~*~*~*~
She opened the doors of his quarters and was met with darkness. However, she saw a figure close to the door...
<Tag Nathan>
OOC: Feel free to try to knock me out or something (note the word 'try' ;-)) but not too hard, as I need to make sure our Captain is nice and healthy...

"Doctor, I have Ensign McLean standing by in shuttle bay one ready to give the Captain all the information he needs to take care of the brain." Joktel said a bit confused.
It did not take long to figure out that Doctor BeTor was attempting to pull off a ruse. Joktel remembered not more than an hour before he had recieved this message from BeTor he had informed the Captain that McLean would be meeting him n the shuttle bay with an intstuctions PADD in hand.
"What do you want me to do Doctor?" Joktel asked.

"Sir, we're being hailed by the Ptolemy," Lt Arro reported.
"On screen," Dan ordered.
Szalai once again appeared. "I've noticed increased activity around your Aerowing. I take it you're transfering the Brain there?"
"That's correct," Dan replied. "Our Doctor determined that it needed an Intrepid-class to survive, but the Aerowing is a suitable substitute. The Brain has requested that Captain Dixon accompany it."
"To where?" Imre inquired.
"To wherever we decide to keep it," Dan replied simply.
"And then he will return to the Raven when the Brain has been transfered to the care of scientists there?" Szalai asked.
"No," Dan said, somewhat subdued. "It's asked that he remain with it permanently. I'll be taking over Command."
Szalai's head dropped slightly. "I'm sorry to hear that we're losing him. He's a fine Officer," Szalai said, somewhat quietly. "Let me know if I can do anything."
"I will, Raven out," and he ordered the comm channel closed. He looked around. "Brine, you've got the Bridge," Dan said, and went to the turbolift. A few minutes later found him outside Alex's quarters. "Come," came the voice from the other side of the door.
Dan stepped in to find Alex packing. "It's certainly going to be different not having you on board, Alex," Dan said, watching him pack. "Not just as a superior, but as a colleague and friend. I know that in the beginning our working relationship was strained, given what I did on my first mission here when I got infected. I remember the moment we met. I was admiring the Raven at Assailant, and you approached me. You are without a doubt the best Officer I have ever served with. You don't know this, but often when we're on the Bridge, I psionically check your state of mind. I draw strength from your determination, and confidence. I'm going to miss that. And I'm going to miss you, Captain."

"I'm going to miss you and the Raven as well. You've been an excellent First Officer. The best I've ever had." Both Starfleet officer chuckled at the weak joke. "They say that you never forget your first command. I can understand that now." Alex walked over to the port. In the distance, he could see the Ptolemy cautiously paralleling their course. "I didn't get to do much science, it seems. That's the reason I joined Starfleet. To discover. Maybe my going with the Brain isn't such a bad thing. I really liked being Captain of a Federation ship, but my regret was that I didn't really have a chance to do the science that I wanted to do when I joined. Perhaps this will give me my chance" Alex said pensively.
"Perhaps. It seems like a high price to pay though" Dan muttered.
Alex reached out his hand and caressed the smooth metal of the bulkhead, remembering what he had done since the Academy. His first meeting with Captain Weill, who had seemed so stern and authoritarian, but who'd really had a heart of gold under his gruff exterior. Alex had modelled his captaincy on what he had learned from Gus, and it had served him well. "Starfleet demands a high price from all who serve. Not just captains. Those who can pay, pay. Those who can't..." Alex left the sentence hanging.
Captain Dixon turned and walked over to Dan. "It has been a great honour to serve with you, Commander Trek" he said formally. I''m sure that the Raven will prosper under your command. Computer, transfer all command codes to Commander Dan Trek. Priority code Omega seven four two Baker."
Command codes transferred
<Dan>
"Thank you." Alex replied.
The quiet scene was interrupted by the voice of Dr. BeTor. "BeTor to Dixon"
Alex rolled his eyes at the nearest comm panel. "Dixon here."
"Please report to Sickbay for a medical checkup before your...departure...I need to check you're physically up to this, and you need to take medical supplies for both yourself and the brain. Come when you're ready..."
"I'm on my way now Doctor. Dixon out." Alex turned back to Dan and shook his head. "At least there'll be no doctor aboard the Aerowing. I imagine you should get back to the bridge. I'll get in touch when I'm ready to leave."
Dan nodded and gestured at Dixon to precede him out of the Captain's quarters, and the two Starfleet officers went their separate ways.
A few minutes later, Alex walked into Sickbay.

(OOC: Alright, we need to move along. I'll leave this thread open so you can backpost and write finishing posts, but wanted to move on to get our new SMO involved) "Computer, transfer all command codes to Commander Dan Trek. Priority code Omega seven four two Baker." "Command codes transferred" This was it. For the first time in 56 years, he was in Command again. "Captain, my people have a saying. Roughly translated, it means 'May your path be as clear as your mind'. More applicable to my species than yours, but the sentiment is the same. And, as a final gift to you," he lifted his hand, and placed it on Alex's head. "This will place a kind of mental imprint of me on your mind. It will contain my wisdom, and my confidence. May it be of benefit to you in your travels." "Thank you." Alex replied. Alex spoke to Doctor for a few minutes over the comm, then they parted ways, most likely permanently. Quietly, subdued, Dan proceeded back to the Bridge. He returned to the Bridge, and without saying a word, sat in the Captain's chair. Two hours later, Alex's image appeared on the screen. "Dixon to Bridge. I'm ready to depart." "Acknowledged, sir," Dan replied. "Helm, bring us down to Impulse." "Aye sir," Zoarial responded. Once they were out of Warp, "Mr. Arro, release Aerowing docking clamps." "Docking clamps released," Arro responded after a moment. Dan turned back to his former CO. "Good luck, Captain." Alex nodded. "And to you." The image disappeared. They heard the sound of the Aerowing undocking. "Aerowing's away," Arro reported. "Very well," Dan responded. "Helm, set course for Starbase Assailant, Warp 5." (OOC: Feel free to backpost, but please join us on the new thread as soon as possible
