Steve was awaiting the results of the deep scans that were being carried out to try and find out what was going on down on the planet. Suddenly he heard the bridge doors open, and out stepped Arya. She sidled up towards him and sat in the seat to his left.
"You think anyone will mind me being here?" She questioned.
He shook his head. "I doubt it." He started to reply. "I fear we have a crisis beginning to form down on the planet, and I am sure having you here will help me.....and everyone else feel a bit calmer! He smiled, and winked. He held his hand on hers for a few brief seconds before letting go, and he stood up, hoping he would find something out soon.
OOC: Sorry its short...I havent been feeling that well for a couple of days....I hope to be back and better very soon!

McLean had rushed up to the bridge with a PADD containing the information he had just send up to the bridge's science officer. As he stepped through the turbo lift doors and onto the bridge he noticed the lone science officer working hard at this console. At a first glace it would appear to any on looker that nothing of interest was happening at that moment, but McLean knew better.
Walking over to the science officer McLean decided he would as if he had received the files. With a quick reply of, 'no' McLean huffed and puffed about the ship's COM system again and walked with his PADD to Commander Smith who was sitting in his chair with the counselor sitting next to him.
Great, McLean thought as he hesitated for a second to approach.
"Commander here is the information I was trying to send up to you from Engineering," McLean said handing the PADD off to Commander Smith.
"What's this?" Smith questioned sounding almost uninterested.
"It's the scanning results from our deep scans of the planet." McLean replied wondering why he hadn't started to read the PADD even though he was looking at it.
"Why didn't I get this from our science team?" Smith asked.
It was a damn good question that required a long and detailed story about the COM system, the science team messing with the power allocations of the ship and just a plain back wards situation.
"I took it upon myself to do the scan when a science officer informed me of problems with the long range scanners." McLean said.
"Very well," Smith said putting the PADD down for a second to make eye contact with McLean, "Thank you."
McLean walked away and left the Commander to his duties. As he made his way to the turbo lift McLean wondered why this planet that was thought to be unpopulated would have such particles floating around in it's atmosphere, what were they trying to hide from the Federation?
McLean's curiosity got the best of him as he stepped away from the turbo lift and moved over to an empty station and began another scan, this time for power signatures or fluctuations on the planets surface.

After the counsellor left the ready room, mc7 decided it was time to have a chat with McLean and see if engineering and science had made any progress in breaking through the barrier that seemed to be preventing full sensor scans and blocking some transporter beams.
"Lt Cmdr McLean, could you join me in my ready room please."
Since the CEO was on the bridge working on the sensors when the call came, in less than a minute the door chime signalled, letting the CO know there was someone waiting to enter.
"Come in,"
and when mc7 seen who it was, he offered him a seat.
The Captain began the conversation by asking about what progress was being made with the sensors, and didn't like the reply he recieved. As the Lt Cmdr was explaining one possible theory about the orgin of the barrier, the room seemed to rock slowly from side to side, as though there were a slow motion earthquake happening within the room. After a moment or so, the rocking stopped, and everything was as it was moments before.
"Bridge, report,"
the Captain said, his hand having just opened a comm channel to the next room.
"We're not sure what just happened Sir, but whatever it was, it affected the entire ship,"
the XO's voice said across the open channel.
At that, both the Captain and the CEO were on their feet and heading out onto the Bridge. As soon as they passed onto it they noticed that everyone was looking at the main veiwscreen at the front of the Bridge. Turning to look, both officers were surprused by what they saw. The colony was clearly visible against the night time darkness of the planet.
~~~~On the Planet~~~~
Deciding it was time for a check in with the ship, Zoarial tapped his comm badge to open up a link to the Raven. Instead of hearing the usual chirp, indicating that the channel was now open, there was a dull buzz, which he instantly knew was a bad sign. The buzz meant that a channel could not be opened with the starship that should have been in orbit high above their heads. There were a few possible reasons for this Zoarial knew, it could simply be that his communciator was malfunctioning, but it could also mean that the Raven was having serious trouble with their comm equipment. Worst of all, it meant the Raven may not be in orbit anymore.
"The message I recieved from you told me that you were in trouble ms BeTor, I decided that it would be best to change directions." Zoarial explained, finding it rather strange that he had definately heard E'Liana say that there were hostile people there.
“So you thought you’d come and rescue us?" E'Liana said, "How…chivalrous…although need I really remind you that I’m hardly a damsel in distress?”
Zoarial decided to point out that this was no laughing matter, "If you don't want me to assist you if you request it, that's fine with me." he casually remarked, and hit the target.
“Yes, well…thanks. Since we’re together now, I suggest that we proceed together. Our weapons don’t work, we can’t scan effectively and we don’t know where we are…there’s safety in numbers. I suggest we also try and rendezvous with Haywood’s team as soon as possible. I for one haven’t heard anything, although right now that’s not saying much” Her eyebrow raised sardonically as she motioned to her rather defunct comm badge. “What do you think, Commander?”
"Perhaps if we check in on the Raven they can tell us where to find Haywood?" Zoarial suggested and tapped his commbadge.
=/\=Zoarial to the Raven...=/\= he started, but then realised that the badge hadn't given any sign of an opened commlink.
"Great!" he said sarcastically, "now we're stranded on a planet on a planet, divided and cut off from the rest of the crew, onboard and on the surface."
He pulled himself together and spoke to the worried people standing in front of him.
"As it is now, we're cut off from both the Raven as the remaining security team. We will try to rendevous with the others at the coordinates that they were given, hopefully they didn't get lost. I believe that we have a small deligation from engineering with us? I want you to write down every possible option why our technology doesn't work while we're searching for ensign Haywood. Medics, be prepared that the problem might be of the biological kind, meaning that there is a possibility that there are wounded somewhere on the planet. To all of you, keep your eyes open. Without our tricoders we can only scan for biosigns with our own senses. If there are any questions, I'll answer them on our way to the other team. Let's move!"
McLean stood in the doorway of the Admiral's ready room looking at the Main View Screen with a sense of confusion. Sensors had informed them on their approach that there was nothing on the surface of the planet, and now as suddenly as a gust of wind, the colony's lights shown through the dark side of the planet.
There wasn't any time to head down to Main Engineering and McLean felt his abilities would be better used on the bridge at this moment, so he found an open console and began a sensor scan of the colony. With in seconds he could read numerous life signs, buildings and a vast electrical network through out the entire colony.
"How is this possible?" McLean said to himself as the results of the scan started to be displayed on the console in front of him.
"What is it?" Mc7 of 9 asked turning his body in his chair to face the Chief Engineer.
"Its..." McLean started unable to articulate himself for the moment, "Sir, we were on the sun facing side of the planet when I entered your ready room and now in a matter of minutes it's the middle of the night on the planet."
"I am no longer reading the life signs of the away teams either." A science officer announced.
McLean kept his attention on the sensor data as it waved over his station like a tidal wave. There was simply too much data to be absorbed with in the matter of seconds he had before new data was shown to him. Saving the data straight to the ship's main computer memory bank McLean knew any and all information about this planet would become of use in the near future.
"Sir," McLean said, "I am picking up several large power signatures on the planet now. The signatures are much too strong to be apart of the colonies standard power output levels."
What's going on here, McLean thought as a sudden piece of information crossed his eye's path. Scrolling back up through some of the data he found what had caught his attention in the first place, and suddenly things started to become clear for the engineering.
"Temporal flux." McLean said with an awestruck tone in his voice.
E’Liana watched in silence as Zoarial became more and more agitated with the situation.
"Great!" he said sarcastically, "now we're stranded on a planet on a planet, divided and cut off from the rest of the crew, onboard and on the surface."
She watched as he shook himself mentally, trying to calm down. She had to hand it to him as it was getting rather tedious, not knowing what was going on at all.
"As it is now, we're cut off from both the Raven as the remaining security team. We will try to rendezvous with the others at the coordinates that they were given, hopefully they didn't get lost. I believe that we have a small delegation from engineering with us? I want you to write down every possible option why our technology doesn't work while we're searching for ensign Haywood. Medics, be prepared that the problem might be of the biological kind, meaning that there is a possibility that there are wounded somewhere on the planet. To all of you, keep your eyes open. Without our tricorders we can only scan for biosigns with our own senses. If there are any questions, I'll answer them on our way to the other team. Let's move!"
E’Liana’s eyebrow quirked up involuntarily at this last comment. She looked around at the people there. Unfortunately, there were no Vulcan women with their heightened sense of smell, only herself and Zoarial who may be of any use should the other get lost. ~Not much hope there then…~ she thought wryly.
They travelled quite a way, luckily the sun of this planet was too far away to be that hot, although some people were lagging behind. Deciding to take the lead slightly and get into full Doctor mode, she walked up to Zoarial, walking side by side with him.
“I think we should stop for a while, people are getting tired, and let’s face it, we don’t really know where we’re going. If we DO get ambushed we’re in no state to fend for ourselves right now.”
<TAG Zoarial>
Taking that as an affirmative, she looked around for somewhere they could rest. She thought she could see some caves a little way off and signalled to the others to make their way there.
She walked ahead of them a little way, to make sure they were heading on the right track, feeling a little happier now that they had somewhere to head for. Feeling slightly puzzled at the sudden decline of her path, she hurried her pace a little, making sure that the other’s could still see her. In front of her, a little to the right were the caves they were aiming for, now not that far away, but she slowly realised that they were much higher than they initially thought.
Swallowing her fear, she walked to the what she could now see was the edge of a large precipice and looked down. She gasped with surprise.
“Zoarial!!”
She turned around and waved frantically, jumping up and down like an idiot, but not caring, this was far more important, this was far crazier, she didn’t understand what was going on, they hadn’t heard a crash, they hadn’t seen smoke, what was going on?
The team were running towards her - she hadn’t realised how far away she’d gone, stupid really - and Zoarial was the first to meet her.
He looked at her with what she thought was concern. “What’s wrong?” He asked. “What’s happened?”
She couldn’t speak, too shocked for words, she truly didn’t understand. So she merely pointed downwards, into the abyss that was the crater and said “Raven”
McLean stood looking at the Main View screen. His eyes darted from the sensor readings back to the view screen. It doesn't make sense, one moment nothing and now a complete colony, McLean thought. Before he could voice his confusion the OPS officer informed the bridge they were being hailed by the colony.
"On screen." Mc 7 of 9 said.
The Main View screen blinked to reveal an older man with a long white beard and matching hair. His eyes were as sky blue which stood out from his pale white skin. The sheer amount of wrinkles on his face clearly gave away his age.
"What are you doing here?" He snapped.
Admiral Mc7 of 9 looked to Commander Smith for a second then engaged the elderly man, "I am Admiral Mc 7 of 9. Commanding officer of the USS Raven."
"I don't care who you are," The man interrupted, "What are you doing here? We have cut our ties with the Federation long ago."
"We are here on a mission to re-establish diplomatic ties between your colony and the Feder-" Mc 7 of 9 started.
"Wait," The old man interrupted again. He stood silent eying everything he could on the bridge from his view screen. It was becoming clear to everybody on board the Raven that this man didn't seem to recognize the more than familiar site of the Intrepid Class bridge, "What type of ship is this? I do not recognize this bridge layout."
"The USS Raven is a Intrepid Class starship." Mc 7 of 9 answered coolly.
"Never heard of it." Came the quick reply.
"I image you are probably out of the loop, but we have more pressing matters to discuss than my starship." The Admiral stated.
"Indeed." Replied the old man as he seemed to be chewing on something. His attention was suddenly taken away from the communication going on in front of him by the whispering of somebody off in the distance. Everybody on the bridge strained to hear as much as they could but could make out very few words. It seems to have worked, McLean thought he had heard.
"I will get back with your shortly Admiral." The older man said with out giving Mc 7 of 9 a chance to reply. The view screen suddenly blinked back to the planet with the colony in plain site.
"That was weird." Mc 7 of 9 said scratching the back of his head.
“I think we should stop for a while, people are getting tired, and let’s face it, we don’t really know where we’re going. If we DO get ambushed we’re in no state to fend for ourselves right now.” E'Liana said.
"Yes, but if we don't move on, we might not be able to catch up with the others. Remember, I know what orders I gave them and where they ought to be right now. But what do you prefer? Our safety while they're in danger? Or the other way around. I know that everybody must rest, maybe we have a better chance of finding them if we're clear-minded." Zoarial said, convincing himself that it might be better to stop for a short while.
After a short trek, in which E'Liana took the lead, she suddenly started to run, but then stopped dead.
“Zoarial!” She shouted.
E'Liana was avidly gesturing and trying to get the attention that she already had.
Curiousity killed the cat, and Zoarial almost tripped over the uneven ground trying to get to E'Liana as fast as possible.
“What’s wrong?” He said, slightly worried. “What’s happened?”
E'Liana only pointed towards a big crater and stumbled one word. “Raven”
Zoarial's eyes followed the direction in which she was pointing, and saw the ravaged hull of a starship.
"No E'Liana, this can't be the Raven..." Zoarial said, but this was more to convince himself that it wasn't true. "it must be the starship that was on a previous to establish the colony. Maybe even the ship with which they landed on the planet. They might have made a ceremonial bonfire to cut the ties with the federation.
"That was some time ago, then why is the ship still burning now?" a clever ensign noted.
"Perhaps to celebrate that it was some years ago that they established the colony?"
"What colony?" The same ensign replied, and Zoarial couldn't avoid the truth anymore. He walked, more like slided, down to the ship and could vaguely see the burnt and crushed numbers on the top side of the vessel.
"NCC-750059... You're right E'Liana. But no time for mourning now, we must make haste before everything is lost." Zoarial said, and then adressed the security teams. "Could I have a couple of people from engineering by my side?"
<Scott (could you cover for them?)>
"I want you to try and find out whether there is a means of establishing a crude manner of communication, maybe we are able to do so now. I want you to send a distress signal, and try to get contact with the other away team after that. Understood?"
<Scott>
"Ok and to the rest of you, we must find out whether there is any artillery nearby that could have shot down the Raven. Meet back at this very location at 1600 hours to evaluate. Dismissed."
Zoarial decided to stay at the burning hull of the Raven to see whether he could somehow adapt the phasers to make them work on the planet. He knew that he didn't have the proper knowledge, but he had once stripped down a broken phaser, and knew the layout and kind of knew what the different parts did. After 2 hours of fiddling around with the phaser, he didn't manage to have it dealing more damage then cutting his arm with a sharp edge.
Knowing that he was the rolemodel of everyone now on the planet, he decided not to look desperate. He had to come up with new ideas to keep the moral up. But at the same time, he had not slept for a couple of consecutive days, and decided to take a 'short' nap.
The look of confusion was all over Steve's face. He paused for a few seconds to replay the short conversation in his mind. Something was amiss.
"This doesnt seem right, and Im not liking it." He said to himself, but a little louder so that other people could have heard it. 'How can the colony now be here?' Was the main thought in his mind at the present time.
Turning to the Admiral, Steve opened his mouth: "Sir, I would like to suggest we go to Yellow Alert. We dont know whats happening, and its best to be on the safe side.
<MC7>
"Aye sir. By taking a cautious approach for now, we may uncover some answers." Steve replied, and turned to Arya, who was still seated. "Whats your take on all this?" He asked her, and gave her a caring look direct into her eyes.
The call came loud and clear from across the open area. Benson looked up from the strange pile of dirt he was investigating to signal he had heard the calls.
"Chet," A security officer started, "Commander Zoarial needs you up front."
Benson nodded as he still eyed the strange dirt. Walking slowly the security officer had to look over his shoulders several times to make sure he was following. Benson had never been an out spoken man; in fact most of his friends on board the Raven were thrilled just to hear him speak. This did not stop him from being an excellent engineer though. This quiet demeanor was matched only with a mind that would never stop thinking, never stop challenging itself to learn more or to solve more problems.
"You call for me sir." Benson said in his normal low tone voice.
"Yes." Zoarial stated trying to sound as if he was familiar with the quiet engineering, "I want you to try and find out whether there is a means of establishing a crude manner of communication, maybe we are able to do so now. I want you to send a distress signal, and try to get contact with the other away team after that. Understood?"
"Yes sir." Benson replied.
His mind was already formulating a plan, parts were needed though. To anybody else Benson looked as if he was day dreaming as he looked at the hull fragment from what appeared to be a section of the USS Raven.
"Ok and to the rest of you, we must find out whether there is any artillery nearby that could have shot down the Raven. Meet back at this very location at 1600 hours to evaluate. Dismissed." Zoarial ordered to his security detail.
"This has been here for awhile." Benson said.
"What?" Zoarial questioned.
Benson ignored the question and bent down and pointed at the rounded edges of the piece of the hull. He remained silent for a second letting the evidence sink into every bodies head.
"This ship crashed long ago," Benson said now looking up at Zoarial, "See what weathering has done to the edges of the alloy. If this ship had just crashed, then this alloy would have sharp edges."
With out delay Benson stood up and began to walk in a circle with his tricorder. To anybody else this engineer had lost his mind, but to the other engineers among the group they merely stood back and watched Benson do his detective work.
There wasn't much more McLean could analyze from the sensors on board the Raven, he really wanted to gather an away team and head down to the surface but knew that would be out of the question. They had already seemed to have lost an away team and there would be no sense in risking the lives of more crew members by sending them down to the planets surface.
McLean listened as the Commander Smith talked with Admiral Mc 7 of 9. It appeared that everybody was just as uncomfortable with the current situation as Commander Smith. With in a matter of moments the shields have been raised with the change from condition green to yellow alert.
There were certain points during the conversation that seemed to bother McLean, first information always spread fast around colonies about advances in technology. There wouldn’t be an advantage to cutting all ties, especially standard technological news bulletins from the Starfleet Corp of Engineers. Those bulletins would have contained advances in almost every field from power regulation to brand new starship classes. It was odd that he was unfamiliar with the Intrepid Class starship. The second thing that bothered McLean was the man’s appearance, his clothes looked out dated. What struck him the most were the computers that were being used in the background.
“Nobody uses stuff that old.” McLean said to himself.
“What was that Commander?” Mc 7 of 9 asked as he clearly overheard McLean’s comment.
“I was just saying that it’s rather odd that this colony would use such out dated technology.” McLean replied.
“What do you mean?” The Admiral questioned.
“Well in the background I could see computer consoles that have not been used in probably 50 or 60 years.” McLean said trying not to sound paranoid.
“Given the fact that they left the Federation I would imagine that they would be a little behind the times.” Mc 7 of 9 replied.
McLean wanted to argue that even a colony that stood alone in space would have still upgraded their systems. If it wasn’t going to be Federation technology there were still plenty of other races out there that they could purchase technology from. He just didn’t understand from an engineering and efficiency standpoint how a colony could stay ‘in the dark’ for as long as they had.
“Maybe.” McLean finally replied, taking his gaze from the Admiral to the data that was staring at him from the console he was working from. He knew he wasn't going to be getting any sleep tonight.
Arya watched the scene play out, making mental notes of what might be going on. She wasn't sure, but she didn't like this one bit. Something was off, and she knew it. She just wasn't sure how she knew. She didn't want to go and say anything yet, because she had no facts, nothing to go on but intuition. She didn't think that was good enough, or that it would be acceptable to the captain. She took out a padd and made some notes, notes on the crew and what had just happened.
She sat back reading over her notes, when another padd beeped. She pulled it out, and noticed her evaluations weren't done. Zorial was still left, and she wondered how long he would be down on the planet. She ignored the message, and put the padd back in her belt.
Suddenly she had another padd beep. She took it out, and found a delightful message from the commander asking her to breakfast, as it seemed they would be here for awhile. She smiled.
Yes, that sounds wonderful, and maybe this time we will actually get to it. Unless you think some other officer need you, and you would rather spend time there. She replied teasing him a little at the end.
She was putting that padd away when she got a reply. She tried not to laugh at his return message. No, silly, that's not what I meant. Don't worry about it, I am sure we will find some time to eat together. What do you think about all that is happening with this mission? She replied hoping to get some insight from command.
(Smith)
Ensign Rolan was tired of sitting and decided to try exploring again. It was clear no one was coming to the rescue any time soon. She didn't know what was keeping them, then she heard something a ways away. She decided to see what was going on.
As she headed toward it she found herself almost upon a group. She ducked down to see who it might be not sure if there was anyone else here other than the away team. She saw them and wondered what they were. They were large and had brown fur, and she was a bit frightened by them. She decided to manuver around the group instead of trying to go through the middle, not wanting to have to fight them. They looked large and muscular, and she was sure she would be lunch if she wasn't careful.
She wasn't sure how it happened, but by the looks of it, she was the last of Haywood's team. She bet it was those creatures, and while she was thinking she almost ran into a member of the away team. She looked up just in time. She shook it from her mind thinking it was irrational thought.
"Finally! I have been trying to find and call you guys for hours. Where have you been? I got separated from the rest of the group and haven't seen anyone all day," she reported and looked to see who was in charge. She noticed they were looking at something, and she looked to see what it was. She found the Raven down there, and she sat down dazed at what she saw. She couldn't believe it. ~The ship?! How did this happen? When did this happen?~
"Ok and to the rest of you, we must find out whether there is any artillery nearby that could have shot down the Raven. Meet back at this very location at 1600 hours to evaluate. Dismissed."
E’Liana nodded and watched as the others made their way away from the site. She checked her watch to see how much time she had left and then turned around to the massive hole in the ground. She was still stunned by the wreckage of their vessel and suddenly wondered if there were survivors, but something the engineering ensign said stopped her: "This has been here for awhile."
Zoarial didn’t seem to understand what he had said, but E’Liana silently agreed. There would be no point in looking for survivors in the vessel…but elsewhere on the surface? She couldn’t tell.
Turning around, she saw Zoarial fiddling with a phaser and saw him getting more and more annoyed - she decided to leave him to it. Walking off in the direction of the crash site, she tried to assess how the Raven had been shot down. She wandered around the wreckage for some time, but could not find anything that suggested why it had crashed. To her, it looked like it had simply fallen out of the sky.
Carefully, she climbed up to the meeting point’s level, but on the other side. Here, she could see marks on the hull, as well as elsewhere on the ship, which could indicate some sort of battle, but she had no way of telling how old they were. For all she knew, they could be very old, and besides, it would take more than a little phaser fire to ground this ship. Giving up on her investigation, she wandered around the surrounding area, looking for food and shelter for the group. As their Doctor, she felt it was her duty to look after them.
She found some berries of some sort and tried to ignore their ‘healthy’ yellow colour. Wincing as she did so, she licked it. After a few seconds, she decided she could still see, and so bit it slightly. Nothing seemed to happen. ~Good~ She thought ~perhaps we can eat these…~ Deciding to take the plunge, she ate a whole berry (which was about the size of a pea and made her feel ridiculous at her slight worry). She gave it a few minutes and she hadn’t collapsed on the floor in agony, so decided that they passed the test.
Putting her various instruments from her medkit in the pockets of her jacket, she filled the medkit case with as many as she could, deciding to bring others back to help her.
On her travel around the rim (which was longer than she originally thought) she found no instances of weaponry on the surface and sighed to herself. She was only a Doctor, such mechanical things were above her.
Making her way back to the site - she thought she could see Zoarial asleep and grinned to herself - she suddenly heard a noise. It sounded like rustling. Startled, she moved behind what could pass as a tree and waited. Large bear-like animals with brown fur and a bad temper were…talking…to each other. E’Liana was puzzled, they had seen no other evidence of such life on the planet, but shrugged it off.
She then heard another sound and thought she had heard it somewhere before. She turned around and saw another atarfleet uniform, hiding behind another ’tree’. Carefully, she made her way to the other crewmember and realised it was Engisn Rolan, she looked rather relieved to see the Doctor:
"Finally! I have been trying to find and call you guys for hours. Where have you been? I got separated from the rest of the group and haven't seen anyone all day,"
E’Liana smiled slightly. “I’m glad we found you, but we haven’t found any other members of Ensign Haywood’s team yet. When we get back, perhaps we will go and look for them now we have you here.” She motioned to the bears. “Look, they’re moving off, let’s go.”
Slowly, so as not to make too much noise, they made their way towards the campsite.
As adorable and humorous the site of Zoarial sleeping was, E’Liana had to warn him of the bear-creatures and on finding Ensign Rolan, so she woke him and did so. <TAG Zoarial and Arya>
“I also found some berries over on the other side of the ridge. Since we don’t know how long we’re going to be here, I suggest that we go and get more.” She glanced at her watch. “It’s 15:30 now, half an hour ‘till the others get here…I suggest we rest for a little while and then go and find food and shelter before the sun goes down.”
"It's not very comforting that this potentially hostile creatures are skulking around at the moment. We'll keep taps on them and see what they're up to." Zoarial said, planning to send away a couple of the soon-to-be-returning men as scouts.
“I also found some berries over on the other side of the ridge. Since we don’t know how long we’re going to be here, I suggest that we go and get more.” She glanced at her watch. “It’s 15:30 now, half an hour ‘till the others get here…I suggest we rest for a little while and then go and find food and shelter before the sun goes down.”
"I disagree." Zoarial said firmly. "Now that we know that there is a possible threat, it wouldn't be wise to let our guard down. I suggest that we go looking for food and shelter the coming half hour, and get some rest in shifts when the others return. How does that sound to you?"
"But..." A faint protest started... "Good, then let's head out.!" Zoarial said, who was now bursting with energy. He signalled two men to join him, and they were now heading out for the berries, trying to find some cover for the night in the mean time.
It didn't take long for them to find the berries that E'Liana had pointed out. After tasting a couple, and with signs of approval for the taste. The three people loaded up their bags with the berries, who seemed to be growing everywhere.
"Look!" one of the ensigns said. "These orange berries are even more tastefull! They remind me of..."
"What do they remind you of ensign?" Zoarial said, and turned his head, seeing the ensign lying on the ground, gasping for air. His throat was swolen, and a blueish green liquid was dripping out of the corner of his mouth.
Of course, the medical staff was nowhere to be seen, and the ensign didn't look in the right condition to be carried back to the Raven, he probably didn't have enough time left.
"Here, rub this herb on his throat!" a voice came from the bushes, and out stepped Haywood, together with the rest of his team.
Within seconds the tensed muscles of the poor ensign started to ease up, and he went unconscious out of exhaustion.
"Don't worry" Paul said, "He'll recover soon enough and will feel okay."
"How do you..." Zoarial started.
"Don't ask!" Paul almost ordered, "Should I help you with collecting some of the yellow berries? I found out that the green ones are also quite good."
Being highly curious about this sudden knowledge, Zoarial shrugged and filled up his bag.
At 15.55 they were back at the Raven. Zoarial wondered whether E'Liana DID find a place to spend the night.
Joint post between myself and Arya Eowyn
With the Admiral seated in his command chair and Steve and Arya sitting either side of him, Steve would be able to talk to Arya without moving to be next to her, and right now, that would look right. Picking up a data padd, he wrote a little message on it.
Babe, When our shift ends, and I'm sure it must do sometime today, would you like to join me for a little bite to eat? Must be coming up to breakfast time soon
Yes, that sounds wonderful, and maybe this time we will actually get to it. Unless you think some other officer needs you, and you would rather spend time there.
'Some officer?'.....Oh you mean the Captain? Hey, you know that was duty and had to be seen to. Couldnt get around it!
No, silly, that's not what I meant. Don't worry about it, I am sure we will find some time to eat together. What do you think about all that is happening with this mission?
Shaking his head, trying to not laugh, Steven replied: Ok, I wont do. I am sure we will too, even if it takes like, forever. But you are more than worth the wait. Mission-wise, I dont really know whats going on other than what we have seen....although I believe there is something hidden under it all.
I don't know much about it either. I didn't like when that other guy was talking to the captain earlier. I felt he wasn't telling us everything, and that he was part of the colony disapperance. That is just my opinion though. I don't have anything to back it up with. She replied, feeling it was okay to tell him what she thought. She leaned back a little to catch a glimpse of him to see what his face would do when he read that.
Trouble is...none of us have anything to back our suspicions up with. Until we manage to talk to them properly and get a few answers, we cant really do anything. Admittedly, its probably going to be a bit slow at first, but I know that we will get on top of it.
She wasn't sure what to say to that. She sat forward and smiled. Well at this point I guess we just have to be patient and keep sending each other messages to keep us occupied. Unless you can think of something else. I only have one evaluation left, and he is on the planet. She responded still smiling.
Steve let a large grin appear on his face, and out of the corner of his vision, he saw the Admiral glare at him, and he wiped the smile off he face sharpish. He had one or two ideas, but thought it best to keep them to himself.....or maybe not. I doubt there is anyway for us both to somehow get away from here, and suddenly end up in either yours or my quarters, is there?
Her smile widened a little, and she couldn't help it. Well, I don't know. I know I could come and go without getting into trouble, but could you? I am not really needed here now. I stayed to be near you, and to show support to the crew. Maybe be helpful somehow. I am sure I could steal away. Can you think of a reason or way to get away from here without getting into trouble?
Steve felt a bit deflated, and sighed. I dont know if I could right now. I didnt exactly make a good first impression to the Captain, so it probably wouldnt be a good idea to be leaving the Bridge at a time like this, unless there is a problem, and I am needed elsewhere. Besides, who knows what could suddenly happen with the colonists?
The gears in her mind started to turn. Well, I am sure I could get you away from the bridge, but I don't want to get into trouble either. Unless there is a way to create a fake problem without getting caught? She hoped no one else was spying on their conversation. It was very private, and she didn't want anyone else seeing it.
Steve could see from Arya's expression that she looked a little uncomfortable, so he secured the link between their two Padds. just in case someone was eavesdropping. What type of problem? Nothing that would look too suspicious, I hope?
Well, I am sure I could come up with something that could get us away without looking suspicious. I did overhear a few things lately with a few sections. When do you want to go? She sent feeling better about the link.
Ok, well I will leave that part in your hands. Steve replied, wiping a bead of sweat from his forehead. Well, I think I would need to stay here for a little bit, to try and make contact with the colony again. How about 45 minutes...an hour....more?
Let me know when exactly, and it is as good as done. Is there anything work wise you wished me to do? Any way I can help around here? She sent wondering how to occupy her time.
Steve thought for a second. Ok, lets say an hour then. Work wise? Not that I can think of honey. As for round here, all we need to do is to find out more about the colony and try and re-gain contact with them. He knew Arya wanted to stay, but he wasnt sure what she could do from here.
Is anyone searching the database about information on the colony? What do we know from our own sources? She thought maybe she could do a few searches in the computer.
Well, we havent had contact with them for over 80 years, so any information we do have will be outdated at best. And I dont think anyone is currently searching the database either. If you wanted to, you could try that? Not really great fun, but it would allow her to stay put, for now...
Okay, do you think anyone would mind if I searched it at some station? I don't think I can search it properly from here, even though I would love to do it from here. She sent, not wanting to be far from him.
No, I dont think anyone would mind. And if they did, send them to me. You wont be too far though. Steve replied, hoping she wasnt going to be that far away.
Okay, I will be at Ops then. I think that is the best location for now. I will let you know if I find anything. She stood, stretched, and headed over to see what her search would find.
Steve watched as Arya went to work at the Ops station. He was confident that would make some progress soon.
After a few moments, a thought struck him and he turned back to Arya again. "Hail the colony again, and get them on screen. I want to know whats going on. They have answers, and I want them." He ordered her, and realised it sounded a bit harsh. "Sorry." He mouthed, silently to her.
There wasn't much Benson could get from his tricorder. General information about the hull's metalic characteristics, bio information from the grass that had grown around the hull, but nothing about the apparant ships age. He needed a lab for tests that would tell him the age.
"What do you think Chet?" Benson heard from behind him.
"I don't know," He replied in his normal soft tone voice, "But I need to get a communication system set up right now." Benson said walking away from the hull piece.
His imagination began to run wild as he walked toward the rest of the engineers. They had already began to try and fashion together some sort of a distress signal, but Chet knew it would probably be impossible with the equipment they had with them. Taking tricorders apart and fusing them with communication badges only went so far.
OFF: I will have to finish later.
Jaren Paal looked around the now spotless Sickbay office and sighed contentedly. He had had two patients and had dealt with them quite easily, had completed their reports and (he hoped) filed them onto the computer's database. He had then organised all the cabinets and cleaned up around the office. Now he was bored.
Paal was finding it quite difficult to get used to the relatively quiet lifestyle aboard this vessel. He had heard of the predicament of the away team and felt guilty for his relief that he was not a part of it. He briefly considered calling Nurse Joy to tell her but decided that the medical team couldn't do much about it all and so let her sleep.
Out of curiosity, he looked up about the colony on the database and was annoyed to find that the information was about eighty years out of date. ~How are we supposed to help them if the information is so antiquated?~ He wondered to himself.
Getting increasingly more bored, he decided to go and find out more about the situation from the most reliable source: the Bridge. He knew that he could just ask through the comm system, but decided that he may as well go in person to get more acquainted with the ship. He preferred the old-fashioned way of talking face to face anyhow.
Before leaving, he realised that he could not leave Sickbay unattended and so decided to activate the EMH. Grimacing slightly at the prospect - they were notoriously self-righteous and what would be called 'inquisitive' when viewed in a favourable light.
"Computer, activate the EMH, please" "Please state the nature of the medical emergency...who are you?" The beady eyes were staring at Paal's insignia - or lack thereof. "I'm the Nurse, my name's -" "Where's Dr BeTor?" "She's on an away mission" "And the Nurse?" "I am the Nurse" "...then why did you activate me?" Pall sighed, now understanding why E'Liana had told him to ignore the hologram and just get on with the job. But he felt like he couldn't just walk off now, it would be rude. "Because I'm going to the Bridge" "Why are YOU going to the Bridge?" "To find out what's gone wrong with the away team. They should be here by now. I have to go"
Paal practically ran out of Sickbay before the EMH's sardonic mouth opened any wider.
~*~
The doors to the turbolift opened and Paal saw the Bridge properly for the first time. He smiled weakly at various crewmembers, making his way to the Admiral to ask about the away team's mission as he was concerned about them from a medical standpoint.
<TAG M7>
As the Admiral spoke, Paal saw out of the corner of his eye a young woman. Casually, he moved his head towards her briefly to get a better look, and paled when he realised what he saw. A Cardassian. He panicked suddenly, not knowing what to do, but knowing that it would be stupid to point out that there was a Cardassian crewmember to the Admiral and so tried to ignore her.
However, as she turned around fully and went behind Mc7, he noticed that she had faint Bajoran nose ridges. He suddenly felt his blood run cold. She was half Bajoran! Trying to keep calm, he attempted to focus on what the Admiral was saying, hoping that he didn't look too panicked.
Arya noticed the eyes on her, and she looked up from the console to see what was going on. She noticed a bajoran male was talking to the admiral. She put it from her mind not sure what he was doing here. She knew department heads reported in, and she just figured that was what was going on, then she remembered she hadn't seen him in the briefing.
She was curious as to who he might be, but she knew she had other matters to look into right then. She put it to the back of her mind for now, hoping to find out more later.
She hit a few buttons on the console bringing up the information on the planet. She noticed there wasn't too much stated, and she didn't mind it was out of date. She thought that maybe there might be a clue to what was going on in there. She looked at the information that was there, and was a bit disappointed. She put it on a padd, noticing how cryptic it seemed.
She heard the order, and noticed he mouth the word sorry. She did as commanded, and hailed the planet. A face appeared on the viewscreen.
"What is it you people want now?!" the person said.
There, done as you commanded. Don't worry about how that sounded, you should appear that way for now. Unless you want the whole crew to know about us? She sent quickly.
(Smith)
She made her way back to sit down beside the captain, hoping to figure this out. Then she noticed the new guy was still there, and he was looking her way again. She looked at him out of the corner of her eye. He seemed a bit nervous, and she realized it was because of her. She thought about saying something. She didn't want to make him any more uncomfortable.
"Is something wrong?" She said looking up and toward the bajoran male. She wasn't sure what to make of this situation, and she wasn't completely sure why he kept staring at her. She made sure not to draw attention from the viewscreen when she did this.
A couple of seconds after Steve's order, the viewscreen flickered.
"What is it you people want now!?" The person said.
Steve turned to face the viewscreen and paused. "We want answers. There is something going on here, and you know what is happening. I want to know what that is." He answered.
Just as Steve finished talking, he felt a tingling, vibrating sensation in his hand. With a flick of his wrist, the padd that he was holding on to was thrown onto his chair at lightening quick speed, and Steve quickly checked his hand and arm. He thought he had something either crawling on or in his hand and wrist. Looking up, he could see that on his chair, his padd was flashing at him.
'You idiot.' He thought, 'It was the padd that vibrated.' He went red with embarrassment, and moved over to his chair to retrieve the padd. All eyes were currently on him at this moment. He very quickly read the message:
There, done as you commanded. Don't worry about how that sounded, you should appear that way for now. Unless you want the whole crew to know about us?
He looked to Arya, nodded and smiled, then turned back to the viewscreen.
"So, now....will you give us the answers we require?" He asked.
Paal couldn't help his eyes from continually flicking over to the young woman who was so like him and yet so dissimilar. He had tried to keep it subtle, but had apparently failed miserably.
"Is something wrong?" She said.
Paal's face paled more so at his apparent lack of etiquette and stuttered his response to her. "N-nothing wrong at all...was just wondering what was going on with the...away team. " He avoided eye contact with her, his eyes focusing once again on her forehead.
"I...have to go now I'm afraid, I-I can't leave the EMH running for too long." And with that he nodded ever so slightly to her, kept his head down and bolted out of the room.
<TAG Arya>
The doors to Sickbay closed behind him and Paal sighed with relief. Had he been able to, he would have leant on the doors for support, but they would open before he had the chance and so decided to go and sit down instead.
He saw the EMH sitting in the Office looking somewhat bored. There were no extra PADDs on the desk and so surmised that there had been no patients. ~If there were no patients, then there's no need to talk to him...~ he surmised to himself.
"Computer, deactivate EMH" he stated as he walked into the office. He had a moment to feel guilty over the look of indignation on the Doctor's face before he faded out of existence.
He sat in the now vacant seat and looked up the crewmember that had shocked him so much...
It has been a couple of hours since Benson had started to McGyver a distress signal with the rest of the engineers. Nothing was working, there just wasn't enough power to get a strong signal out beyond the planet's atmosphere. What they needed was either a large satellite dish or the Raven, and it seemed they didn't have either at the moment.
"Alright people, lets take a quick break." One of the engineers said stretching his back out, "Clear your thoughts and be back here in 15 minutes."
Benson walked away slowly not saying anything to anybody as usual. As he walked he found himself drawn toward a large tree line. It was an unusual formation of trees, they looked as if they were planted in a particular order rather just grown naturally. With each step he began to notice how the trees were forming an almost perfect visual blocking of what might be beyond the tree line. He was hooked, he had to find out what was beyond the tree line.
As he walked he began to hear talking, low at first but it began to grow louder the closer the come to the trees. Looking nervously over his shoulder he proceeded on, chasing the voices that seemed to always be out of visual range. Benson stopped at the tree line, took one last look around and slowly began his walk in.
"What's that?" Benson heard form his left, his eyes quickly darted toward the sound but found nothing.
"Over there." His head darted right to try and locate the person speaking.
"It's a ghost!" Benson spun in a circle, his heart now pounding as hard as it could, sweat ran down his brow, but still he couldn't find the person behind the voices.
The crack of a tree branch sent Benson spinning around and coming face to face with a ghostly figure. It appeared to be a human, they stood looking at each other for what seemed like hours. Benson's heart was racing, he felt like running but this ghostly figure had him frozen in place.
Just as soon as it had happened, the ghostly person vanished. Benson ran as fast as he could away from the forest, heading right for the engineers. He needed a tricorder and fast.
Arya didn't like that the bajoran had left very hastily. She felt something was happening here with him, but she wasn't sure what. He had left her with nothing but questions.
"Answer that you require? We don't answer to you, in fact we aren't part of the Federation any more. I suggest you leave while you can," the man on the viewscreen said before the screen flickered off to show the planet.
Arya didn't like this one bit, and wondered why they were so hostile toward them. ~We have done nothing here that should make them hostile. We were just in looking around the system, its not our fault. Wait, what isn't our fault? Why does my thoughts make no sense?~ Arya was a little lost in what she was thinking. It just didn't make sense for there to be any guilt, and yet she felt she was guilty of something.
Rolan was with the chief medical officer the last time she saw, and now she was with these things. She didn't know how they had become separated, and she didn't like it one bit. She wished they would just eat her, so she didn't have to be here now wondering how this was going to turn out. Being tied to a tree, the girl looked around to see how to escape this one. She hoped her friends would come along and rescue her, but felt it was highly unlikely.
Rolan was busy trying to untie the knots when a roar came from one of the beasts. She looked to see what was going on. Rolan was afriad, and she hoped not for the last time in her life.
"Answer that you require? We don't answer to you, in fact we aren't part of the Federation any more. I suggest you leave while you can,"
The viewscreen flicked off, and Steve blinked in surprise. "What the.....?" He exclaimed. "We only want to find out whats just happened. Now in my opinion, if someone is being hostile like that in a situation such as this, then there MUST be something that they are hiding." He said out loud, hoping someone else would have something to add.
Turning to the bridge crew, he made a quick look around. "Continue scanning the colony, I want to know of anything that looks out of place, no matter how small or insignifcant it may seem." He ordered, a little frustrated.
Steve suddenly felt a pounding sensation in his head. He closed his eyes, and felt a bit weak. He reopened his eyes, and walked up to the Captain.
"Sir, I think I may head to the briefing room to see if I can try and work out something from there." He rubbed his head as he paused. "I dont think I am needed here right this moment, but if I am, then I wont be far."
MC looked at Steve for a moment and didnt say a word. Finally, he nodded his approval, and with that, Steve headed off the Bridge. He decided to keep the knowledge of the pain to himself for now.
Once inside the briefing room, Steve took the seat at the head of the table, and placed his head in his hands and made a deep sigh.
Arya noticed when the first officer left the bridge, and she wondered what was going on. Something was wrong and she knew it. Arya knew she didn't need to be on the bridge, or she would have been commanded to stay on earlier. She wasn't commanded though. She left the bridge using the turbolift, and went to another deck changing turbolifts.
Arya didn't want to be tracked by anyone, and went up to the bridge on the other side entering the briefing room. She noticed the commander has his head in his hands. She walked over and kneeled down next to him.
"Is something wrong?" She said keeping her voice down not wanting the crew to know she was in there.
(Smith)
"Well, how can I fix this?" She said not sure what to do for him.
Steve had only been sitting at the desk for a few minutes when suddenly he heard a doft voice by his ear.
"Is something wrong?"
A little startled, he looked up and saw Arya, and smiled. "No, everything is fine. Just suffering from a mild headache. I thought that if I got away from the hustle and bustle and noise of the bridge I may be able to do a bit of digging around and try and perhaps find a solution to our problem here. I guess I am feeling a little tired as well." He replied, happy that Arya came to see him.
"Well, how can I fix this?"
"Just by staying here, you are helping me." He replied with a grin. "If I can give us just a little lead to go on, then that would be a great help! Do you wanna help, and stay here?" He asked.
