|USS Nevada Sickbay
TO: Dr. Lucille Grey, CMO, USS Nevade-B FROM: 53kj2oo9dy7bb MESSAGE: You are very wise doctor. I will need 50 strips of gold pressed latinum. you are welcome to inspect the heart upon payment. Cael END MESSAGE
Lucy sat back in her chair and pondered on how to phrase her response. Cmdr. Waterson said that the heart should cost between 20 and 30 strips. Setting her fingers on the keyboard, Dr. Grey tapped out the message:
TO: 53kj2oo9dy7bb FROM: Dr. Lucille Grey, CMO, USS Nevada-B MESSAGE: I will pay you 20 strips of gold pressed latinum. And I will inspect the heart before payment. Dr. Grey END MESSAGE
After sending the message, Lucy typed a report for Captain Nack, Cmdr. Trek and Cmdr. Waterson. Upon reflection, she deleted the message, cleared the computer's history and left for the bridge. This report needed to be delivered in person.

Sitting in the Counselor's chair, Lucy leaned to the side, her elbow on the chair arm and her eyes steady on the viewscreen. She explained quietly what she had done and the message she'd received.
"What if they want to meet? Do I take someone with me?" she asked.
<TAG: Trek and Nack>
Lucy's eyebrows raised. "Good idea." Looking back at the science station where Ensign Jonas was working, the doctor nodded. "I'll explain the situation to her. She shouldn't have too many objections against handling a phaser rifle. And how about a security officer dressed as medical?"

Captain's Log Stardate 94.0322
Yavin III has turned into an eventful trip, although not for the obvious reasons. As I have mentioned before, my heart condition was an unexpected complication, but due to the efforts of Doctor Grey and her staff, I am recovering swiftly.
Commander Waterson has proved to be an interesting diversion. Though she was older than most of the enlisted male crew, and slightly older than most of the male officers, she had a figure and confidence that attracted eyes like a compass needle to north.
Nack paused to consider what he had just spoke.
=/\= Computer, delete the last sentence. =/\=
He continued when cued.
Though she was a Doctor by training, her investigative skills appeared to have been vetted, as her responses to questions by the crew were well-thought and concise. Currently, Doctor Waterson, Lieutenant Helacaan, and Commander Park are on the surface, securing the facility. I should be receiving a report from each of them shortly, but I'm not concerned, as the Nevada's crew's problems were never having too little information. One may say that I am too informed on this ship.
Which leads me to some information I had uncovered today about a possible lead in the case. Doctor Grey, under the advisement of Commander Waterson, had established contact with someone wishing to sell a heart on the black market...
...a few hours ago...
"You whhhat?" Nack hissed at the Doctor, sitting in the vacated counselor's chair.
"You," pointing to Doctor Grey,"and you," Commander Trek, "In my ready room..." adding, "NOW," when nobody made any motion toward the door.
Nack was furious, and Lucy thought better of warning the angry Captain of the high readings on his blood pressure monitor. Especially since she was the one who was causing it.
The minute the doors were shut, Captain Nack started.
"What if they want to meet?! What kind of question is that? Did it ever occur to you that contact with what Starfleet considers a criminal is something that should be reported to the Captain?"
Nack paced looking down at the ground. If he looked at Lucy, the look of disgust on his face would be so great that even he would feel guilty.
"And you didn't know about this?" Nack pointed a stubby finger at Commander Trek who tried to say "no" in more words than Nack cared to hear. The Captain put his hand up to stop him.
Turning back to Lucy, "I have never had problems from you before. I understand, as a Doctor, you are not usually on the forefront of missions. You are usually secondary, which is why, against what I should be doing, I'm going to let you go with a warning. This was your opportunity to be a primary player in helping in our mission... good intentions of course. But ANY further contact needs to be coordinated through me. For all you know, you could have ruined an undercover mission on our part, or unknowingly created an alliance of a competing dealer!" Nack's rage was fully contained now, and was more a voice of concern. He would polish the sequence of events in his Captain's log to make Lucy sound less reckless and more helpful. It was the least he could do, as she was never a problem before, and she was an excellent doctor. She also didn't act too far out of line with what he probably would have had her do anyway.
Nack rambled for a little while longer about the importance of informing one's Captain of events such as these, but the narrative grew redundant, and eventually they were all walking out the door together back to the bridge. Tempers were evened out, and Nack returned to his seat on the bridge without any signs of distress.
"Well, since we have committed to buying this heart, we might as well go through with it."
I had assigned our new Ensign, Emily Jonas, to create a beacon to be placed in the latinum strips. It would have be undetectable, blending in with background radiation, or perhaps warp exhaust. I want to be able to track whomever delivers the heart back to its source. The payment will have to be dropped off somewhere. And while I have not met the new Ensign yet, Commander Trek noted her enthusiasm, so I'm sure she can handle this first official assignment.
In the mean time, Doctor Grey will be getting in touch with our contact, and will set up a time and place for the exchange. During the next scheduled communication with Commander Waterson on the surface, I'll inform her of our plan forward.
And finally, there has been a serious set of events taking place aboard the Nevada that has only just begun to disturb me. The fact that whomever was selling this heart knew that the Captain might be needing one suggested a communications leak. Commander Trek informed me that there was a possible security breach with our communications, and that he was personally working with a team trying to discover the root of the problem. Upon inspection, sabotage seemed likely, but whomever is doing the sabotaging is doing it well, as our finest are unable to trace the leak source. We are now operating in a relative silent mode. Nonverbal communications are kept to a minimum, and all data is encrypted with a level one security code.
When the surface team reports in, I'll have more to add. For now, I'm content with saying that Doctor Waterson has the man-power and know-how behind her that she'll need to be successful.
=/\= Computer, end log. =/\=

Seth was surprised at Waterson's calling him one of the finest on the Nevada. He was flattered, for sure, but he wasn't sure he had quite proven himself as 'finest', but then the Doctor didn't really know much about Seth, about his background or his character. What the hell.. like it matters to me... he thought. People might say that Seth was just telling himself that it didn't matter to him, but it was true.. Seth liked to think so anyway.
“I will escort you myself.” Teyak said, the doors opened and two more Romulans stood there.
Teyak introduced them, Seth looked Manager Norel up and down, typical steely Romulan. At least that's what he assumed from reading the bio on Romulans. He really didn't know too much about the species, he'd known only what he'd learnt from history classes, the Earth-Romulan War and other humans' encounters with them.
Seth nodded at the Ops Manager and they exited, he followed her as they walked through the facility. He looked around and found himself grimacing at the decor. The corridors looked much the same as the lobby room to the Romulan doctor's office. Dull metallic grey interspersed with mud brown and green where the corridor passed through an open door intersection. "I suppose you don't get many visitors?" Seth asked the Romulan woman walking a couple of metres in front of him. She briefly looked back, the dry look on her face telling Seth that trying to make small talk with a Romulan, was probably a waste of time.
After a while they reached a section of the corridor that was slightly brighter and wider, it had a few consoles set off to one side. Clearly a room. They approached a console. "This station gives access to our computer's mainframe," Norel said, "All stored information can be accessed from here."
Seth stepped up to the console. "Well there-in lies your first problem Manager," he said half-jokingly. He decided that he should stop making jokes. "If all data can be accessed from here-"
"It is all encrypted," Norel retorted, a tone of urgency and insistence in her voice. It sounded like she felt she had something to prove. She stepped up to the console and started working. In a moment she had accessed the computer, "This details all the information on every specimen, organ, pathogen and antibody stored in this facility." Norel informed Seth, pointing at the screen. It was all in Romulan so Seth was glad there were diagrams to go with it, he would have hated to take the Romulan at her word. "We keep tight records on everything," she continued, "If something goes missing, we would know it..." she kept going. Seth watched her, he was intrigued by this woman; Romulan, he corrected himself. She seemed earnest, and also proud. That was about as much as he could glean, he didn't know the species all that well, so it was hard to see much more, They don't seem so bad as everyone says, he thought.
He stepped up to the console and leaned on it. "Ok, so the datakeeping seems good," Seth said, "But I am more concerned about the accessibility and level of encryption of the data." The Romulan turned to look at him, Seth did the same. She's getting testy, Seth decided. He had to fight back a flicker of a smile from his face, and forced it to keep the customary dour expression.
"How are you progressing Lieutenant?" Seth turned at the sound of Commander Park's voice. He was disappointed, he'd almost been enjoying his time with Norel. It was so, so refreshing, to be away from the starship and the starfleet personnel.
"Quite well, sir," he replied, the Tac/Sec chief had entered the room with the Romulan Security officer a few minutes ago, "We have accessed the computer," Seth continued, "And we are discussing techniques for improving encryption." Seth shot a glance at Norel who had stiffened slightly, he smiled inside. Park acknowledged him, and turned back to Brikom. Seth turned back to the computer-access console. "I would recommend adding a couple more firewalls to your data protection system Manager, I'll help you if you like, it shouldn't be to much of a problem." Seth was feeling more at home with this woman despite her difficult nature, and it was a difficult nature, not a bad one. He felt the weight of formality lifted from his shoulders, he felt free.
"Lieutenant Helacaan can you locate the surveillance systems access program."
Seth sighed, it was Park again. "Should take just a moment sir." Or not... he thought, as he stared at a blank screen. "No sir I cannot, it's not here. It's as if it has been removed from the entire system." He looked at Park, he didn't have to tell the Security chief what this meant.
<tag Park>
The facility had already been infiltrated from within, much in the same way the Nevada had been. The attack on the facility had already begun. This 'thief' was just laying the ground-work.

Park was shocked as Lieutenant Helacaan reported "No sir I cannot, it's not here. It's as if it has been removed from the entire system.". "Well that explains alot about the attack and how it took place." As Jon thought about how best to achieve replacing the surveillance system program when he realized the Nevada as well as Commander Waterson may want to know about this little Hiccup.
=/\= "Park to Nevada. We have discovered that the surveillance system protocols were deleted from the system." Park started as he motioned to his escort to move to the console."We are bringing the backup surveillance systems on-line now thought it will only cover about 80% of normal coverage." Park knew the issues 80% coverage would give but unless himself or any member of the crew could fix it noting would stop another attack. "Has there been any similar programs found missing from the other attacks?" Park continued. "Maybe we can find out a who did this if we can track any similar program deletions."
<Tag Nevada Crew>
Park waited for someone to reply he knew he should inform Commander waterson and tapped his combadge again. =/\= Park to Commander Waterson. We have found that the surveillance system has been deleted from the system. we have started to install the backups however they only cover 80%."
<Tag Waterson>
By the time he finished updating the doctor Captain Brikom finished uploading the secondary surveillance system and headed over to the where Jon was standing and checking out if the systems were running up to speed. "Captain Brikom what are your plans to check out how your systems were breached."
Brikom looked at him in a bit of shock and intrigue "Well Commander i was not really sure where to start. I know our People haven't been always be trusting..." As he trailed off he understood just like him and the Klingon's the humans and Romulans haven't always trusted each other. The Captain tapped commands into a console Jon saw he was giving him unlimited access to the system. Jon knew what was being said with out words.
Jon stood at the console and checked screen after screen and saw a few things that didn't add up and tapped a few things into his Padd. Checking the sensor recordings he saw a group of four enter the Ops center about 3 days before the attack. The data from that time frame was corrupted and he couldn't find the identity of the person who deleted the program. Jon knew the person wasn't the Internal Thief, But someone who can lead him to him.

Doctor Waterson was greatly enjoying her tour of the Romulan medical facility. In some ways it reminded her of home, as it seemed there was a common standard for hospital administration that was universal. Lisa had to admit she was extremely impressed with the meticulous organization of both their resources and their records. Every storage room that she entered was extensively catalogued making every item very easy to find. The medical profession was not often familiar with the ways of those who sought profit, and the Commander remembered at the beginning of this being very naïve and unaware of the ways of the market. As fantastic as this level of organization was in and of itself, it made it easier to steal.
Inside each room, Lisa explained to Doctor Teyak the things that the Internal Thief would be most likely to go after, walking the Romulan administrator around the room and physically showing him which of his resources were most valuable on the black market, how much they were worth, and under what category of priority they would fall. Her fellow doctor appeared to be listening earnestly, even taking notes on his data padd. Finally, Waterson changed the code on the door and locked herself in each room to let Teyak try to break in. After a few minutes, the Federation doctor would join him outside, have him change the code, and then show him the tricks used, surprising him each time when she was able to enter in under a minute.
It had been an exhaustive three or four hours, but Commander Waterson had managed to see every storage room and examine most items. On her padd, she had carefully listed all the items, adding what had not been on the inventory she’d received and removing that which had already been used. While the level of organization, both in items and records, was extensive and admirable, security was a little lax, especially for a thief as skilled as the one they were facing. Lisa had offered a few recommendations, additional measures at the door to each room that would take longer to break through giving a greater chance to be caught.
“This trick is, Doctor Teyak, to balance several different preventative measures all at the same time rather than to put all your eggs in one basket...oh, sorry that’s a human expression. Don’t focus all your resources into one type of security. You want there to be a lock on the door, a forcefield to bypass, an encrypted code to enter, surveillance sensors and cameras, security guards making their rounds... By stacking all of these things together and focusing their protection on rooms with the most valuable items, you’ll decrease the likelihood of a successful robbery by a great deal. For instance, what I’d recommend next is for you to create a...”
=/\= Park to Commander Waterson. We have found that the surveillance system has been deleted from the system. We have started to install the backups; however, they only cover 80%.=/\= the security officer’s voice sounded through the badge.
Glancing at Teyak, Lisa replied, “Acknowledged, Commander; we’ll be right there.” The administrator looked immensely worried, as he led Waterson towards the Ops center. The Federation doctor felt he had just started really understanding what she was saying and was beginning to develop the right mindset of security. This setback immediately following her explanation of how important each level of protection was, only highlighted how big of a deal this really was to the facility.
Arriving at the correct place, Lisa glanced around the room that was practically filled with computers. A quick glance to either side showed Park hard at work on a console with a worried Captain Brikom behind him, and Norel and Helacaan working just as hard at another console across the room. You didn’t have to be telepathic to feel the tension in the room, as almost every console was occupied with uncertain looking people and the only sounds were the unfailingly cheerful acknowledging bleeps of the computers and the hushed whispers of the operators. Moving to stand behind Park, Doctor Waterson watched with obvious fascination at what the surveillance from just before the system went down showed.
“I’ve never anything like this before…it looks like the thief sent people ahead to disable the surveillance systems, but although these people knew what they were doing, they weren’t as thorough as the thief usually. is. This was three days ago?” Lisa asked, receiving a nod in response from Captain Brikom. “Then we could have less time than I thought. If the Internal Thief thinks the surveillance systems are still out, that might give us an advantage if we want to set a trap, but we don’t have much time…we need to act quickly to make the most of this.”
“Lieutenant Helacaan, I’ll need you to implement a sensor and camera network from scratch and try to get it calibrated as best you can. I’ve got a basic template here. Tie everything into a single program, heavily encrypt it, and then burry it deep within the hospital computer. Make it so that if someone tries to access the program, it doesn’t appear to exist. Lisa ordered, handing Seth a padd detailing the program. With your permission, Doctor Teyak, I’d like to tie that system directly into the Nevada’s computer so we can monitor it closely from there.”
“Park, I want you to add forcefields and additional identification requirements at the door to each storage room, as well as devise the best rotation for the security guards to cover those rooms. Work with Captain Brikom, as he’ll know his men best. I’ve highlighted the biggest targets, as well as prioritized the rooms in reference to which has the biggest payload. You’ll want to focus the rotations on the higher risk rooms. Those are where the thief would likely strike first.”
“Both of you, we need to try and have this implemented as soon as possible. The hits are usually made during the quietest and lowest staffed shift of the day. I’d like to have these changes made before that shift comes.” Lisa ordered, before finally turning to Doctor Teyak. “I believe your facility is in grave danger and it will most likely be hit very soon. If at all possible, I would recommend having guards stationed outside the storage rooms, not directly outside but in the rooms across the hall. If we’re going to catch the thief, we’ll need to be prepared but not make it so obvious as to entirely prevent an attempt. I realize this is a bit of a risk, but are you willing to help us try and catch this person for good?”
Doctor Teyak looked a bit pale, but nodded. “I want to stop him. Do what you need to do, Doctor Waterson. I do have one request though. When all these changes are made and you go back to the Nevada to monitor the surveillance, will you take Manager Norel with you? It’s not that I don’t trust you…but… I would feel a lot better about all of this is she was there with you watching on your ship.”
“I understand entirely, Doctor. You’re putting a lot of trust in us, but blind trust is a hard thing to do and dangerous even. I will contact the Captain to ensure this is alright, but I think that’s a very good idea. I’ll let you know for sure.” Lisa promised before turning back to Park and Helacaan. “Let me know when your work is completed and we’ll return to the Nevada to watch and wait.”
<Tag Helacaan and Park>
Moving aside, Lisa tapped her commbadge. “Waterson to Captain Nack, we’ve run into a bit of a problem down here, but I believe it can be used to our advantage.” After briefly explaining what had transpired and the actions she had recommended, the doctor quickly got the point of what she wanted to do next. “Sir, once these changes have been implemented, I think the three of us should return to the Nevada and monitor the situation from there. Doctor Teyak has requested that one of his people accompany us, and I think in the interest of cooperation that is a good idea. He has given us complete access to his systems, showing a great deal of trust. However, that is entirely up to you, Sir, but I strongly support it.”

(Ops Center Medical Facility Yavin III)
“Park, I want you to add forcefields and additional identification requirements at the door to each storage room, as well as devise the best rotation for the security guards to cover those rooms. Work with Captain Brikom, as he’ll know his men best. I’ve highlighted the biggest targets, as well as prioritized the rooms in reference to which has the biggest payload. You’ll want to focus the rotations on the higher risk rooms. Those are where the thief would likely strike first.”
"Understood Commander. I have been working with Captain Brikom on that very issue for the past ten minutes." Park said as his Counterpart started to work with him on a few screens and padds. As Park finished Working on the forcefields and identification requirements he also added a Security alert for the Director and Captain so they would know when and what rooms were being accessed at all times. He buried the program so deep he had to show Captain Brikom where the programs were so he could find them.
Commander Park and Captain Brikom left Ops and headed to the Security training room for a quick look at how the teams were patrolling the station. Entering the office the Captian was surprised to see the patrol route was light in the areas the Commander waterson deemed a hot zone. Soon Park and Captain Brikom fixed the lack of security and Park was ready to head back to the Nevada.
Captain Brikom escorted Commander Park to the Beam-out site and Park tapped his combadge. =/\= "Park to Nevada. Standby to transport one from this location." Looking at his romulian counterpart he said." It was a honor to have worked with you Captain. I hope to work with you again." Brikon looked back at him and replied. "I have been pleased to work with a open-minded person like yourself. I am sure our paths will cross again." Jon nodded back and tapped his combadge again. "=/\= Park to Nevada. Energize." The station and his escort dissolved in a swirl of light.
(USS Nevada Transporter Room Two)
Commander Park materialized aboard the Nevada and was his friend John Tobias at the control. Stepping off the padd Park headed out the doors and turned to the left and entered a turbolift. "Sickbay" the doors closed and the lift headed there.
Jon entered sickbay and a nurse stooped him. "Commander Can i help you?" Looking at the nurse Park replied. "I am just here for my post away team exam. What Bio-Bed would you like me to sit on?" The nurse pointer to bed 1 and Jon said down as the assistant CMO came over and ran the tests. "All clear Commander." Jon nodded and got off the Bio-Bed and he headed out of sickbay and for his office.
(Deck 15 Security office)
Jon sat in his desk and was thinking about what happened on the station and with his Counterpart.Activating him computer terminal he started reading about the comm systems and if they were fixed. Jon saw that the issue was fixed with a level 4 Diagnostic and the comm relay he found had been the issue. He need to do a log entry but would put it off till he had some sleep and ate. Heading to his quarters he ordered the Computer to wake him if there was a Meeting or anything need his action.

=/\= Waterson to Captain Nack, we’ve run into a bit of a problem down here, but I believe it can be used to our advantage. =/\= The communication between the Captain and Doctor continued, discussing the Doctor-Commander's opinion on how to proceed. Seeing that Lisa had everything under control, the Ferengi Captain saw no reason why her plan should be a problem, and gave the go-ahead to continue.
=/\= Thanks Captain =/\= she responded, before signing off.
...Captain...
Nack reflected for a moment how he had gotten to the position that he was in now.
He did not remember much about his birth mother on Ferenginar, only bits and pieces. He never did know if the images he saw were because they were stories told to him by his Foster parents when he was younger, and thus burned into memory as a fantasy, or because he actually experienced them. With the death of his mother, however, any way of finding out was voided.
The Swanson family was a good family for Nack. He was their only child, and they raised him as human, even though he had Ferengi tendencies. Cheating in class by selling answers to other students from a course book he bought off of an older student was the only mischief he actually got caught doing, but everyone had suspicions that young Nack Swanson's fingers were in more pies than he had fingers.
It was no surprise he was as keen as he was since he grew up in refugee camps. His parents were civilian medics. That was where he gained his medical background - mostly on Bajor. Triage medicine became a specialty, due to on-the-job training. Coursework was only necessary if one sought it as a profession, which Nack originally had no intention of doing. Where normal children dreamed of becoming doctors, Starfleet officers, or civil engineers, Nack Swanson had always dreamed of becoming involved in mergers and acquisitions. This dream of his showed that a Ferengi's longing for profit-making was more nature, instead of nurture.
Leaving his family, he headed for Ferenginar in his late teens. It was a gutsy move, as he had never lived among other Ferengi before, but Nack found he fit in perfectly. It was there he learned that he had the uncanny ability to be in the right place at the right time. Less of an ability, and more luck - true... still, Nack became somewhat of a success on his own.
Holoprogramming became his specialty, and combined with his medical knowledge, he was able to recreate organic simulations for anyone who wished to purchase them, Starfleet being the most interested. It was a Starfleet Doctor that had suggested at one point, jokingly, that Nack consider Starfleet. Nack, having dropped his surname since moving to Ferenginar, took the offer seriously.
That's when he found himself in Starfleet - finding he was a wiz when it came to science and mathematics, but lacked verbal communications. He squeaked past his diplomatic courses, and easily made it into training. Mocked that he was a Ferengi without honor, due to giving up profits, he held fast to his chosen profession. His goal was to someday turn a large profit - and Starfleet would allow him to see every opportunity in the galaxy. That's what he told himself, anyway. In truth, he found that even though had Ferengi tendencies, some of the nurturing from his foster parents did shine through. He wasn't a profit monger. He was just predispositioned to enjoy profits. It was something that could be overcome.
On the USS Hanson, Nack was to become the Chief Medical Officer, or at least pretend to be under the current one. Somehow he had fumbled through a bunch of beakers and found a cure, to this day nobody realizing it was an accident. He graduated and deemed a hero.
Having been assigned to the USS Vesuvius, he found a ship that couldn't have been more disinterested in him. The Commodore, Commodore Reckus, was quite keen on taking Nack under her wing. Especially since she was pregnant, and Nack had to deliver her baby -- Again, something going wrong, resulting in Commander Byrnes delivering the baby with Nack popping over the communications channels just in time to deliver it. It always seemed everything went wrong for Nack, but in just the right way so he could come out successful. "Easy" wasn't his middle name.
Finding himself on the USS Victory, he led a few away missions, always at odds with the Marines -- ironic, too, since Nack's next assignment, his current one, found himself on a ship with a whole marine squadron. Since disbanded (some blame his distaste for marines, others blame the harsh tactics used by the marines), Nack found himself in present company.
The away team would be back soon, and Nack had just woken up. He needed to get ready for the briefing, plus he also had information to share with them. He didn't know how long it would be before Doctor Grey established contact with the heart salesperson or persons... and he wished to see Jonas's progress with the Latinum beacons. A busy, busy day.
Still, reflective, he was amazed he made it this far. His parents would be proud.

"Computer, display the maintenance logs for comm relay 21 from the past month," Dan said, in instruction to the computer. He was attempting to find the source of their security leak, and wasn't about to underestimate how deep this problem ran.
Scanning the logs, he found no changes made to the comm relay. "Computer, show me the access logs for that relay; same time frame."
Jackpot, to borrow an old human term. There, sitting in the log, was a record that someone had accessed the comm relay remotely from Deck 18. There were lots of little spaces in which to hide on that deck. It was mainly a maintenance level.
"Commander Trek to Captain Nack. Captain, I've found our security leak, or at least the location from which it was executed. A console in a maintenance area on the bottom deck. I'd like to go check it out."

He hissed at her! Actually hissed! Then there was the angry scramble into his ready room where she was dressed down, the XO standing beside her... or a little to the side so as not to show an association with her.
"What if they want to meet?! What kind of question is that? Did it ever occur to you that contact with what Starfleet considers a criminal is something that should be reported to the Captain?"
Dr. Grey opened her mouth a few times to protest that she felt she was doing the proper thing for the situation. That she was informing her captain of her actions... albeit after the fact. But what did that matter? She couldn't just sit back and not do anything!
Cmdr. Dantrek, in his innocence, was guilty of not catching Lucy before she could report to the captain. He would have headed her off. Well, she thought, the deed was done. And in the end, Nack had agreed to her plan which was what Lucy wanted in the first place. By that time, Lucy had stopped trying to defend herself. She managed to look sheepish and guilty then said "Aye, sir," which got her another one of Nack's looks.
After being dismissed Lucy headed back to her office to monitor her messages. She should be getting a rejection notice for her pitiful offer of 20 strips of latinum.

Commander Park turned in his bed as the computer woke him with a chime. "The time is 0600 hours." Jon rose and checked his Computer terminal and saw no message from starfleet about his command course training. Sitting at his table he thought~Command School is what my family always wanted, But is it right for me.~Getting up he heads for his office on deck 15.
(Deck 15 Security office)
Jon sat in his chair thinking about how to record his log entry. "Computer Begin Log."
Commander Park Security log Stardate 940326.
The away mission to the Medical faculty on Yavin III for the most part has been a success. We have found a breach in the stations surveillance system protocols giving us a motive to look for. The crew on the Station was very helpful and i think we may have helped bridge the gap between human-romulian relations. Captain Brikom and i have."
Just as he was about to talk about his romulian counterpart his office door chimed. "Computer Pause recording." Looking at the door he said "Enter." There stood Lieutenant Salfer. "Lieutenant please come in.Do you have the list of candidates for the Gamma team?" Salfer entered and sat down across from Jon handing him a Padd she answered. "Yes sir i have. I have found several crew ready for the team, but one has to come via transport." Reading the Padd Park saw many names he knew one name caught his eye because he was part of the Test crew that his father was declared missing Lt.Commander Rick Collins.
Jon was a little taken aback by this Lt.Commander Collins should be Capitan by know but he knew becuse of the ship being lost but a security position on the ship his friends son was on. Looking back at Salfer Jon remarked."Fine choices Lieutenant. I will run them by Commander Trek and let u know. Salfer Nodded and left. Jon was tempted to call up Collins service record but he decided to finish his log. "Computer resume log.
Having reached a understanding concerning the security breaches on his station and he and i are still working on ways to fix the issues. Manager Norel will be coming aboard it assist in tracking the thief. End log

“Lieutenant Helacaan, I’ll need you to implement a sensor and camera network from scratch and try to get it calibrated as best you can. I’ve got a basic template here. Tie everything into a single program, heavily encrypt it, and then burry it deep within the hospital computer. Make it so that if someone tries to access the program, it doesn’t appear to exist."
"Yes Doctor," Seth replied. Something then occurred to him, something that had spiked in his mind when he had heard Park say something. Is it possible that this thief had the surveillance program removed knowing the backups would only give eighty percent coverage, and then they would go after the uncovered areas? Seth knew it didn't have much of a consequence now that he had been instructed to install the new surveillance system, but it was an interesting thing to consider.
Seth busied himself with setting up working models of sensors and cameras, and continued tinkering with Waterson's template, until he had a suitable design. He copied them, readying them for replication, and then set about designing the computer program that would control and synchronise them.
Once again, Seth found himself at home doing such things. While he had never really been a renowned tinkerer, which was really what he was doing at the moment, he had often found himself in the position of repairing fawlty equipment; broken generators, computers, and indeed surveillance equipment. It was something in the air of his homeworld, the very atmosphere itself seemed to carry particles of grit that would get stuck into the machinery... Seth shook himself. He'd let his thoughts wonder off, to far-away lands, and if he'd gone much further, hurtful memories.
Seth smiled to himself as he buried the program into the hospital's computer mainframe, and through gateways into a seemingly useless subroutine. He'd had practice designing such paradoxical programs before, during his Ship Operations Training Course, the course that he was nearly thrown out of in his first week! Looking back on the incident, Seth had to admit that it was 'probably' a mistake. But then again the officer did-
"Lieutenant." Seth was again shaken from his thoughts, he slowly twisted around to see who it was, it was indeed Manager Norel, as he had expected.
"Yes Manager?" he asked.
"The surveillance equipment has been replicated and installed, Lieutenant. How are you progressing on the program?"
"I believe, that I am done." Seth entered the last series of commands into the console and ran a last check over the program. Satisfied that it was correct and properly encrypted, he activated the surveillance system and shut himself out of the console. He looked at Norel and she nodded in satisfaction. "Are you ready to transport to the Nevada?" Seth asked her, he felt concerned for the Romulan, she did not strike him as the type for wanting to step into foreign territory too often. She nodded again and Seth nodded back. There's a lot of nodding going on, Seth noticed. He tapped his commbadge,
=/\=Helacaan to Doctor Waterson, I have installed the system ma'am, it checks out. I am returning to the ship.=/\=
<tag>
=/\=Lieutenant Helacaan to the Nevada. Two to beam up.=/\= The cool wash of the transporter streamed over Seth and Norel, it finally died away to produce the Nevada's transporter room.
They stepped down from the transporter pads and Seth turned to Norel, "I'll show you the bridge," he said to her, "It's the best place for monitoring your facility." With that Seth walked from the transporter room with Norel close behind. Norel didn't say anything, she just followed. Seth looked back, his intrigue towards her grew. It was comforting to have another aboard the ship, who felt out of place.

With the Captain’s approval and the other two members of the away team hard at work on their respective tasks, Lisa followed Doctor Teyak back to his office. The Romulan administrator was clearly troubled, his worry making him almost appear older than when they had first beamed down. Neither spoke during the walk, the weight of the current circumstances weighing heavily on the atmosphere. Once they arrived, Teyak sank heavily into his chair, motioning for Waterson to sit as well. After a few moments, he looked over at her sadly. “I take care of people for a living. Life and death situations and decisions occur here continually, and yet I have never felt this kind of pressing concern before, ever. I knew there were people out there who focused on profit and getting ahead at any cost, even to the detriment of others, but it’s always felt so far removed from what I do as a physician. Now it feels like it’s all around me, and what’s worse that evil is directed at my hospital.”
Lisa felt a sharp pang of sympathy for the man, knowing what he was feeling and going through. The thief had never been completely unsuccessful and had never been even close to getting caught, so she felt for the man and the potential loss to his facility. “I understand; truly I do. I’ve felt quite similarly many times, and not just in this case. You of all people know the immense struggles needed to keep a facility up and running. There are been many times when the steady stream of supplies provided by Starfleet just wasn’t enough or a patient needed something that simply wasn’t available. I’ve felt the worry and frustration that accompanies wanting to help people and not being able to do so for whatever reason or having that help compromised in some way. That’s why this is so very important.”
The two doctors stayed looking at each other, a moment of understanding passing between the two. Romulan, Human, it didn’t really matter now; they were the same, fighting in very different ways for the safety of their work, the care of their patients, and for what they believed in. With a sigh, Doctor Waterson sent Teyak a sad smile. “I need to be returning to the ship. As soon as Lieutenant Helacaan sets up that surveillance system, I want to be monitoring it personally from there. I’m sure you have a lot of paperwork created before and during my tour.” Lisa commented dryly, receiving a smile in return. They both knew what administration was like.
Standing and shaking Doctor Teyak’s hand, Commander Waterson requested a beam out and a few moments later materialized back aboard the Nevada. With a nod of thanks to the operator, Lisa headed for her quarters. She needed to get something to eat and prepare for what would probably be a long night of watching the sensors and cameras. While enjoying her BLT and iced tea, she was contacted twice, first by Park and then by Helacaan, as each reported their completion of the tasks assigned to them. It felt very…exciting to be actively involved in this way.
After finishing her meal, Doctor Waterson cleaned up and headed to the bridge. Meeting up with Manager Norel and Lieutenant Helacaan, Lisa smiled at both of them in greeting while glancing at the console they were both watching closely. The system was perfect with a clear sensor resolution covering every square inch of the hospital and cameras that could see almost everywhere, with the exception of a few areas where patient privacy was an issue. The console had been set up to show sensors and the cameras located around high target areas.
“Well done, Lieutenant. This is exactly what we need to keep an eye on what’s going on and catch anyone who doesn’t belong.” Lisa praised, her eyes wandering over the screen trying to see if anything looked out of place. So far, it didn’t. “We need to be watching this very, very closely. The lowest staffed shift, when they’ll be at their most vulnerable begins shortly. Lieutenant Helacaan, could you transfer a remote link to my guest quarters? I plan on watching all night from there. I realize it won’t necessarily be tonight, but I…don’t want to miss it.” The doctor requested, smiling a bit sheepishly at the operations officer.
<Tag Helacaan>
Smiling in thanks, Lisa continued. “I suggest you set up alternating shifts, use as many members of the operations department as you can spare; we need every pair of eyes we can get.” Turning to Norel, Commander Waterson added, “I’ll ask that you be assigned temporary quarters, so you can rest in between your shifts on the monitors. And thank you again for coming. I’m sure that the administrator feels a lot better knowing that you’re onboard the Nevada working with us, and it’s good to have someone with your expertise and knowledge to assist us with this.”
After sending the Romulan woman a warm smile, the doctor turned and headed to the turbolift, tapping her commbadge once the lift began to move. “Waterson to Commander Trek, our guest is now aboard and working on the bridge, but I believe she should have temporary quarters while she’s onboard. I wasn’t exactly sure about who to contact to help me with this…”

Captain Nack had given Doctor Grey the go-ahead to make the drop. Ensign Jonas's beacon solution was already in place, and Nack had given her the task of monitoring it during the drop. While Nack chased down this issue, First Officer Trek was pursuing the communications leak. Nack formally reassigned Commander Park to the task, as his work on the surface was done.
"Commander Waterson!" he said, snapping his fingers. "Completely forgot about her... or did she forget about me?" It didn't matter, he needed to find out how things were going.
He beelined to Waterson's door, passing the quarters of the Romulan visitor on the way. Nack had approved her arrival, and Commander Trek had since approved her quarters. The thought of having a Romulan aboard bothered some of the crew. Then again, the thought of having a Ferengi captain didn't sit well with all of the crew either.
He rang the door chime, careful to give Commander Waterson time to get to the door before ringing it again, potentially embarrassing himself again. It was a late hour this time, and after waiting for what felt like a short eternity to the Ferengi, he rang it again.
The door opened, and Waterson - weary-eyed, answered the door.
"Um.. I... sorry." Nack said, pushing the hue of his orangish skin into a slight red. "I was just making sure everything was going alright with the investigation." The entire time Nack talked, he constantly glanced around the room. It was a typical move for a Ferengi, to take stock of a room. It wasn't on purpose, and he meant no disrespect. He managed to raise his chin awkwardly in an effort to see over Lisa's shoulder, causing her to casually question him.
"Oh sorry... stupid habit." but Nack walked into the room, Lisa backing up, and that's when Nack saw the monitors.
"Ah - I see you have patched through the ground information. I've done the same myself." He smiled. He wished to witness the thieves himself. "I don't have that monitor, though. Must have missed that one when I patched them through. I just have the one outside of that room." He pointed to a monitor that had an image of a room. Inside the room there were multiple refrigeration units, labeled with various medical terms. As a Doctor, Nack recognized this as the main storage room.
Lisa shrugged, and Nack continued onto the point of his visit.
"I wanted to let you know that Doctor Grey will be making the drop for the heart that we were offered. I know you encouraged her to make contact." Nack was a little peeved with that too, since he had not approved the contact. Waterson probably should have reminded the Doctor to talk to her Captain first... but, in further retrospect, Lucy's decision on how to use the chain of command was none of Lisa's concern.
He waited for some sort of response before seeing something out of the corner of his eye on the monitor. It was the monitor inside of the organ room. He pointed to it repetitively, getting Waterson's attention. There was movement!
"That's just the nightly guard." Waterson said, killing the rush of endorphins Nack was experiencing from the excitement.
"Phooey." Nack said, making a kicking motion as if he was robbed of some sort of fun. "I'll let you get back to your surveillance. I have a few things I need to get to before I get to bed."
Nack headed to the door, and quickly left, barely saying goodbye.
=/\= Captain Nack to Ensign Bit-Cloud. I need the computer checked out. The surveillance routines we have monitoring the surface are not all broadcasting to my ready room and quarters. =/\=
Nack didn't want to make the communication in front of Waterson because he didn't want to be seen needing help with the matter. Perhaps he had missed something.
He headed to his office to get the business taken care of. It would be the last bit of business he would take care of before he went to bed.

< Deck 18 >
Dan was busy combing over every square inch of the room where the remote sabotage had taken place. Someone had been here. There were energy readings not explained by the regular duty logs.
Normally, he would have delegated the task to crewmembers who specialized in this sort of work. But sometimes, the experienced eye was far more valuable.
He was scanning a bulkhead when he found a tiny interruption in it. An opening had been cut into it. Forcing it open, he found his way into a small nook between the bulkhead and the outer hull. Scans showed a latent energy signature of a transporter beam. Someone had beamed in and out of this compartment.
Returning to the maintenance area, he tapped a key. "Computer, access internal sensor logs for this section of the past month and display," he ordered, after entering his command codes. The consoles in this area of the ship weren't programmed for ready access to sensitive information, so additional authorization was required.
Sure enough, the sensor logs had a gap in them, for a period of twelve hours.
This information in hand, so to speak, he went to speak with the Captain.

"I realize it won’t necessarily be tonight, but I…don’t want to miss it.”
"Of course, ma'am." Seth could tell that the whole operation meant a great deal to Waterson, he could understand such devotion.
“I suggest you set up alternating shifts," the Doctor said, "Use as many members of the operations department as you can spare; we need every pair of eyes we can get.”
Seth nodded as the Doctor moved on to Norel and then left the bridge. "Shall we?" Seth asked the Romulan. The two worked together to link the cameras monitoring the Hospital to Waterson's quarters, it didn't take long. Seth leant on the Ops console and let out a small short sigh, "You should settle in your quarters," he told the Romulan, "Return to the bridge at your convenience."
She nodded, as if to say 'thanks' and left the bridge. Seth returned his now tired gaze to the Ops station, and the visuals of the monitors. He felt that if he looked at them much longer, his eyes were going to bore holes right through the console. He hadn't felt this tired since the long nights of tedious revision, the desperate efforts to ensure he got his degree.
Seth finished his duty shift an hour later and retired for the night, handing off the Ops position to Lieutenant Hasak. The changeover had involved a brief exchange of words, they had been few. "Watch it very closely, if anything seems amiss, comm me, and Doctor Waterson." Was about all Seth had said to Hasak. He decided he would need to make a conscious effort to get to know the Ops department. For now, he headed to his quarters, making plans in his head to set up a team of monitors, whose only objective would be to watch the surveillance footage.
Seth entered his quarters. "Computer, lights." He requested a glass of water from the replicator and lay down on his couch, noting its soft texture beneath. Here I am living a luxury life, while... Seth felt crushed by sudden guilt, sudden, unquenchable guilt. And before he knew it or could do anything about it, a single tear rolled down the side of his face. He desperately rubbed it away, Stupid man! What's wrong with you? Seth cursed himself. He felt the scar across his chest, he was not sure why he felt a need to, but he did it all the same. He climbed into his bed, and didn't sleep.

Jon walked the Halls of the Nevada not having to be anywhere that very moment and found himself by the quarters of his Second of security. Knowing that Lt.Commander Thomas was on the bridge this shift he continued to walk knowing something was bugging him but not sure what. Ok that was a lie he knew but wasn't sure who to talk to about it.
As he headed down one corridor and saw the romulian Manager enter the suite that was assigned to him. Park was up on the events of the last few hours even if they had not told him. Not much happened on the ship he didn't know about.
Jon turned and saw he was by the heading to into the turbolift and knew where he should go. "Sickbay." The lift door closed and he headed down to sickbay. As the lift door opened on the sickbay deck park headed out and turned left. He enter the sickbay and headed for the Doctors office and saw that Doctor Grey was not there. Other Doctors asked if he needed help Jon replied "No thank you just looking for Doctor Grey." Jon walked out of sickbay and wasn't sure where to go. "Computer locate Commander Trek." ~Good idea since he need to approve all personal.~ The computer replied Commander trek is en route to the main bridge.
Jon headed there as well with the names of the officers to join the Nevada if they were to be approved Commander Trek would have to look at them. Entering the lift Park said "Bridge." The lift stops and Lieutenant Salfer was standing there waiting for the lift. "Commander." She said as stepping inside. Jon looked at the young officer she was taking the wait to find out if she was being promoted well. "Lieutenant." Jon replied. Jon turned to her "Where are you headed Lieutenant?" Salfer turned and replied "I am off duty, sir" Jon smiled "So am i i was heading the the bridge, But i think i change my mind. Join me for a drink?" She thought about it and replied. "Ok sir"
Jon ordered the lift to take them to the lounge and also told Salfer. "You know Rebeca off duty you can call me Jon." she looked shocked. "But sir...i mean Jon you are my commanding officer." Jon understood how she felt but told her. " You don't think i address Captain Nack or Commander Trek by there first names when we are all off duty." As she lightened up on that news they arrived at the lounge and headed in.

|Sickbay
Pleased with the captain's agreement -albiet a reluctant agreement- of her plan to meet with the criminal that wished to sell her a new, hardly used Ferengi heart, Dr. Grey sat at her desk waiting for a response from said criminal.
Half an hour later, she still hadn't heard anything. Her computer dinged with the latest inventory reports coming in. Flipping to read of the medical supplies they would need to request, Lucy glanced over the list. Something was not quite right.
Hyvroxilated quint-ethyl metacetamine otherwise known as Brevital.
There had been 3.8 liters in stock. Now there was 1.2.... Something was wrong.
=/\= "Dr. Grey to Captain Nack." =/\= Her voice sounded distressed. She could hear it herself.
=/\= Nack =/\=
=/\= "I need to speak with you, sir." =/\=
=/\= Nack =/\=
=/\= "Oh, I'm sorry to wake you, sir. This IS important." =/\=
=/\= Nack =/\=
=/\= "Well, It's about our latest ship's acquisition." =/\=
=/\= Nack =/\=
=/\= "That I purchased on your behalf, sir." =/\=
=/\= Nack =/\=
=/\= "Yes, sir. On my way." =/\=
On the way through her supply cabinet to assure herself of the proof, Lucy saw Cmdr. Park enter the turbolift. Turning her head back to her assistant, she changed her mind about asking him about the commander. She needed to see the captain.
~But why was Jon in sickbay?~
|Nack's quarters
The door slipped open to a vision of Captain Nack wearing a black velvet robe. He yawned, covering his mouth as a gentleman would and turned away from Lucy.
"Captain, someone has taken 2.6 liters of Brevital from the medical stores. I trust my staff, sir. Someone has been on the ship. Someone unauthorized has been lurking around, unseen."

Frowning after the retreating Captain, Lisa yawned heavily and rubbed her eyes. The doctor wasn’t sure she had ever met anyone as nervous and….bumbling as Nack. Glancing at the monitor as the night guard left the storage room, Waterson yawned again and moved to the replicator to get some water. The night shift had just begun on the surface, and hours remained before the greatest potential for danger would pass. At least seeing the night guard in the room had emphasized the changes for the better made in the watch by Commander Park. It was now less likely and more difficult for anyone to enter storage rooms without detection. It showed that something positive had resulted already by their being here.
~
Stepping onto the bridge next morning, Lisa smiled brightly at Manager Norel, who was sitting a station watching the monitors closely. The Romulan woman looked a bit tired but determined to observe what was going on. The night shift wouldn’t end for another two hours, so they still needed to pay close attention to what was going on. “Good morning,” Waterson greeted politely. “I hope you were able to get some rest and didn’t spend the entire night watching the monitors like I did. I’m just glad the replicators make such good coffee, or I’d be exhausted!”
The woman smiled wanly in return and replied. “I have taken several breaks. However, I felt I would be negligent in my duties were I to stay away for too long when my facility was at risk.” The dark circles under her green tinged eyes, the Romulan equivalent of bloodshot, confirmed that she had indeed gotten little rest. “I will be more able to rest after the night shift is over. You did say that was when the likelihood of attack was greatest. I wanted to be vigilant during this time.”
Nodding in agreement, Commander Waterson replied, “I can’t blame you myself. I couldn’t keep away. The chance to actually see this person at work is too good of an opportunity to pass up. It’s nice to know both of us were watching, as well as whoever else Lieutenant Helacaan has appointed. Are you being provided with everything you need? If there’s anything I can do to make you more comfortable...”
“Thank you, Doctor, but I am being adequately cared for and your hospitality is most welcome. Lieutenant Helacaan is…” the Manager hesitated for a moment, seeming to debate word selection momentarily before providing, “…professional,” as the conclusion. “He has been extremely helpful.”
“Good, I’m glad to hear it.” Lisa responded, continuing to smile. “If you would like, I could take over and let you get some rest a little earlier. However, if you would like to stay, you’re more then welcome to, and I hope you wouldn’t mind if I joined you. It might be nice having some company to watch the monitors with if you decide not to rest just yet. It can get rather…monotonous to watch I’m sure.”
Nodding, Norel replied, “I would like to finish the shift, but I would also...appreciate the company. It can become rather…wearisome after awhile.”
Taking the seat next to the Romulan woman, Lisa leaned back in the chair, her eyes sweeping over the rows of monitors displayed before them. It took several minutes for the doctor to figure out what each monitor was showing and how they were organized on the screen before she settled into the dreary task of glancing from one to the other looking for anything out of the ordinary. Neither spoke, but it was still somewhat pleasant to sit side by side both with the same goal in mind.
About fifteen minutes in, something caught the Commander eye. “Manager, did you see something on display 8?” Waterson asked, sitting up and leaning forward to try and see the room better. It looked still, but she was sure there had seen something. Norel also leaned forward, staring at the screen in question.
“I don’t see anything,” the Romulan replied, tension in her voice. A few seconds later, she jumped. “There, on monitor 17. Did you see that?” Norel questioned.
Eyes flying to the other monitor, Lisa stared for several more seconds before replying, “No, I didn’t see anything…” There was a momentary lull, as the two tense women stared at the monitors. “Perhaps we’ve both been staring at them for so long we’ve begun to see things,” she added dryly trying to lighten the mood.
The Manager didn’t seem to get the joke and continued to scrutinize the screens diligently, determination etched on her face. A few moments later, she spoke again. “I saw something again, on monitor 3 this time. Did you see it too?”
This time, Lisa had. “Yes, I did. Those monitors are all storage rooms. Computer, enlarge all storage room monitors and zoom in.” The computer complied, the screen momentarily shifting as the images of hallways and reception areas vanished and the few rooms in question were magnified in full before them.
After a few moments, movement from monitor 6 caught the attention of them both as a small container of vials shimmered and disappeared off a shelf in the unmistakable wake of a transport. Norel gasped in surprise before her eyes were drawn to monitor 14, where another container, marked as a bio hazard, vanished as well. “What about the shields and the dampening fields?” Lisa asked, her voice strangely quiet. “Aren’t they supposed to prevent this from happening?”
Shaking away her shock, the Romulan manager hit a few buttons to pull up the security system readouts. “The shields, while not particularly strong, are operating and the dampening field is functioning as well. This shouldn’t be happening...”
Doctor Waterson sighed heavily. The transports continued at a rapid pace, the movement barely discernable unless you were looking for items to vanish. The storage rooms were nearly empty now. It was already too late. “I’ll contact the Captain, as well as Commander Park and Lieutenant Helacaan. I suggest you contact the surface and let them know what’s happening. By the time you get the channel open, everything will be gone.” Lisa suggested her voice strangely flat and devoid of emotion. The Internal Thief had triumphed once again.

"What is it, Commander?" Nack said, squint-eyed to the First Officer while adjusting to the light. The peak of his black night cap fell down in front of his face, and he tried several attempts, unsuccessfully, to blow it out of the way. Finally he relented his lazy ways and moved it with his hand while Commander Trek explained his findings. They were in the privacy of his quarters, so Nack took the opportunity to expound upon something that he had been bothering him.
"Relative to what you are telling me, I think I've come across something myself." He replicated himself some hot tea, and offered Dan some before continuing.
"While in Commander Waterson's quarters," he took a sip of his tea, giving Commander Trek time to ponder why Nack would be in her quarters, "I saw a bunch of monitors on the medical facility. One of them, though, won't route to my room." Nack coughed, "sorry, went down the wrong pipe." A few coughs later, he was ready to continue.
"I also would like to point out, that our ship became a target the moment Commander Waterson came aboard. At first, I thought this was because she was being watched by our thief. But now..." Nack paused, considering what he was about to say.
"but now..?" Dan Trek queried.
"Now I think that perhaps Commander Waterson isn't telling us a complete story."
Nack laid out his evidence, piece by piece.
"First, she was the one that found me during my heart attack. And, immediately following, Doctor Grey was offered a heart. Coincidence?" Nack's tone gained in excitement as would a crime-story sleuth's voice would as they unraveled their nemesis's plot.
"Second, our communications have been comprimised..."
Nack was interrupted by a communique from Doctor Grey. She had information to share on her transaction.
=/\= You might as well come to my quarters, too, Doctor. =/\= Nack said, yawning.
"Where was I? Second... second.. oh yes, secondly, do you notice how she pauses every time she mentions the 'Internal Thief'? Why does she do that? It's suspicious." This wasn't the first thing he set out to say before the communique, but Nack's thoughts were all over the place. The anecdotal evidence Nack was putting forward for this argument didn't have any substance, though. He was becoming paranoid - particularly after last mission. He wasn't going to fail this one, so everyone was going to be a suspect. Blaming poor Lisa Waterson was his next delusion, and Nack was fishing for someone to join him in the delusion.
The door chime rang, and Nack answered it while Commander Trek remained at the table they were sitting at.
"Come on in." he said, yawning again, forgetting to ask the Doctor if she wished to have something to drink.
"We were almost finished. There's no reason why you shouldn't listen to this as well. It's about my concerns with Commander Waterson." the Ferengi Captain did not wish to repeat his earlier sentiments, but moved ahead with his arguments.
"Third, when I was in Commander Waterson's quarters," Nack took a drink of his tea mid-sentence. Doctor Grey looked at Commander Trek with wide eyes. Again, Nack had made the mistake of pausing at an awkward point, a point easily clarified by more information. Dan waved it off, motioning to wait out the explanation. Lucy's reaction was the same that Dan had the first time Nack mentioned Waterson's quarters.
"...when I was in her quarters, I saw someone going in and out of one of the storage rooms. She played it off as nothing, casually. Almost too casually if you ask me."
Lucy was able to get the idea that the entire conversation revolved around Nack's suspicion of Commander Waterson... and Dan Trek, having listened to the entire rant, would be able to tell Lucy that the Captain's suspicion was completely unfounded. He was tired, and had been brewing about the problems they were having. He wasn't going to fail this mission, not like last time. Lisa, unfortunately, was the scape-goat.
Ironically, it was at this point when Lisa contacted Nack to inform him that the Internal Thief had successfully struck the medical facility- right in front of their eyes!
=/\= Captain Nack to all senior staff. I want you to give Commander Waterson your complete support. The Medical Facility has just been looted. Time is critical if we are to catch this thief. =/\=
In an about face, Nack had completely disregarded his own suspicions. If Waterson was holding back something, surely it wasn't with malicious intent. No, she probably had security secrets carried with her from Starfleet, and those might have made her seem suspicious to Nack.
"And not a word about what I talked to you both about. You two are the senior members of my senior staff. I trust you both to keep this under the radar." Nack was almost regretting even telling them of his unfounded suspicions, especially since he now had to interact with Waterson under the assumption that she was keeping secrets, but nothing critical from the Nevada's crew's perspective.
He took a final gulp before dismissing Lucy and Dan. All of this was inter-related, but Nack couldn't piece together how.
"Number One, if you can coordinate our staff with Commander Waterson, I would appreciate it."
"Oh, and Lucy," Nack asked, "keep me apprised of the heart situation. Let me know where that beacon takes us."
The two officers left Nack's quarters as he got ready, with almost no sleep to speak of before beginning what was going to be a long sequence of days. The first thing to do on his list was to divert a potential diplomatic nightmare with Norel. He hoped that the Romulans would not be accusing Starfleet of doing the stealing, and the faster he instilled this into the Manager's head, the faster they could all look for the real thief.

Seth paced around his quarters, getting ready for his next shift. He'd only got a couple of hours of sleep out of all the hours he had lay in bed, and with under two hours until his shift he decided to get up early, it wasn't doing him any good lying in bed not sleeping. Despite this, he still felt better from the night before.
He heard the chirp of the comm-channel, it was Dr. Waterson.
=/\=Go ahead Doctor.=/\= he said as he walked about his quarters looking for his uniform jacket. She had bad news, the 'thief' had used transporters to rob the Romulan facility.
Seth didn't bother asking how it was possible. The numerous defences against transportation were supposed to prevent that method, but there was no point in quizzing the Waterson on something she likely didn't know the answer to. =/\=I'll be right there.=/\= he informed her.
Seth walked onto the bridge ten minutes later and looked around exhaling slowly. He walked to Dr. Waterson who was sitting at a console, she filled him in on exactly what happened and showed him the footage. All the effort for nothing, Seth thought as he watched the stored items disappear one by one. It was the story of his life. Nothing in life he put effort into ever seemed to come out good.
Finding himself a slightly useless cog now that everything he had been working to safeguard was now stolen, Seth wanted something to do. He needed something to occupy his attention, something to take his mind off things. "So what now Doctor?" he asked Waterson.
<tag Waterson>
Seth nodded, he knew there wasn't much they could at this point accept wait for the Captain to give his orders. One thing he did know, was that they would pursuing these thieves.
Seth saw Norel enter the bridge. She looks stressed... he thought. Her and Seth met in the middle of the bridge and then walked together to the Ops Station. "I have contacted my colleagues, explained the situation, and convinced them you and Starfleet have nothing to do with it," she told him. Me and Starfleet...
He paused, "I'm glad to hear that," Seth settled on, "Do they believe you?"
"I think so," she said. Seth could see that they had gained her trust, and he admired that she was trying to remain optimistic. Seth took the Ops console as Captain Nack entered the bridge...

Jon was sitting at a table with his Team leader for the gamma team Lieutenant Salfer when his combadge went off and heard =/\= Captain Nack to all senior staff. I want you to give Commander Waterson your complete support. The Medical Facility has just been looted. Time is critical if we are to catch this thief. =/\= Looking at Lieutenant Salfer they both Stood up and Park said "Join Alpha team and prepare to head down should u be needed." She nodded and headed out. Jon left the Lodge and headed to the bridge to get an update. Stepping out he saw Seth at Ops and Thomas was working on something at tactical.
Heading to his station he was handed a padd the captain had approved the transfers and the promotion of Lieutenant Salfer. ~She will love that~ thought Park. Thomas told him what little he knew the Commander had him scan for ships but he hadn't found any. "Check to see if you can trace the transporter signal." Park told Thomas moving to the front console so he could hear the captain.
Park started running scans he could think to locate a clocked ship ~if there are any out there~ He thought to himself. looking around he saw Seth busy on a task and looked at Norel. She was not looking good either stress or ill. The console beeped and he looked shocked no vessels were in orbit that the sensors could find.
Thomas looked and said "I have found no Transporter signal to trace." They both knew what that meant. Park checked the sensor grid for the time of the theft and found a lag in the sensors. He knew that commander Trek found how the first lag was done. "Commander i have found another lag in the sensor grid for the time the theft took place. However i haven't found where the lag was this time just that there was one.

Leaving Nack's quarters, Lucy let the door close before she turned to Cmdr. Trek.
"Do you believe him?" she asked quietly.
"Yes and no," the First Officer replied. "While the collorary may be a coincidence, it still shouldn't be ignored. Do you?"
"Sorta. He has a point but he is also very tired. Also there doesn't seem to be any proof. It's all supposition."
"Anything unusual about his health?" Dan asked.
Lucy pondered on that a moment. While she hadn't heard anything from the heart seller, she wasn't really expecting to hear until the next day -if she was honest with herself.
Finally, she said, "His heart rate has fluctuated some but nothing out of parameters. Why?"
"Heart attacks tend to affect the mind as well. Not directly, but there can be a psychological impact. That needs to be taken into consideration."
"Agreed. I'll put Nurse Ki on a round-the-clock monitor of his vitals. I don't think we missed anything, but you can never tell."
At the turbolift Lucy said, "Thanks, Dan. This thing has gotten me nervous. I think I understand how the captain feels, though."
For a brief moment, Lucy reminded Dan of his beloved wife. It was just a glimmer, from the dedicated concern that she felt.
A few minutes later, he arrived back on the Bridge. Park approached him. "Commander i have found another lag in the sensor grid for the time the theft took place. However i haven't found where the lag was this time just that there was one."
"Interruptions in a sensor grid come from one of two sensors, Commander," Trek said, enlightening the CTSO. "The first is a shunt, which is a physical device implanted on the sensor array, which allows a third party to temporarily disable the array. They are very difficult to locate, but their effect is limited."
"The other possibility is an interference signal. These are easier to identify, but harder to trace. If an interference signal has been used, you'll find a slight phase variance in the sensor arrays. I would recommend checking for that variant first. If there's none, you'll have to do a thorough search for the arrays for the shunt. Ask Lieutenant Helacaan to assign some Ops personnel if you end up needing to do that."

Tiffani had slept most the trip to the Nevada, she had asked the shuttle pilot to wake her when they got within hailing frequency of the Uss Nevada. It was weird going back to work, she had taken time off after the death of her child, and when she had returned she was given a new mission, starfleet had felt it was best for her that she be placed on a different ship where the memories weren't so strong and that she could soon forget the chaotic circumstances that had cost her daughters life. she sighed as she saw the ship appear on the view screen.
=/\= Shuttle 1 to Uss Nevada, this is Pilot Henderson of shuttle 1 requesting permission to dock. =/\=
The pilot was waiting for the Nevada to helm them back when he noticed that the counselor seemed uneasy,
*Is everything okay counselor?* inquired Henderson
*Everything will be fine once i get back to work, though something tells me that i will be busy from the moment i beam a board* She said with a half pleasant chuckle just then the Uss Nevada responded
=/\= This is the nevada, permission to dock in shuttlebay 1 =/\=
*Computer begin dock sequence* order the pilot and the shuttle started to begin it's docking procedures and glide into the shuttlebay doors as the opened.
Moments later Tiffani was standing outside the shuttle looking around the shuttlebay. she never really was fond of transported and liked doing things old fashioned. she smiled and waited for someone to show her to her quarters.

Seth waited for the rear door of the shuttle to open. The door hissed as it rolled back, revealing the ship's new Counselor. Seth hurried to the shuttle, moving from the vigil he'd been keeping near to one side of the bay by one of the control panels.
He came to attention in front of the Nevada's new Counselor as she looked around. She stepped down from the ramp and Seth introduced himself. "Lieutenant Seth Helacaan, ma'am, Chief of Ship Operations."
She smiled at him and introduced herself. They walked from the shuttlebay, en route to her quarters. "The Captain sends his apologies for not greeting you personally, ma'am." Seth stated, he was being too formal, he knew it. "He is unfortunately quite busy at the moment." Rylka said nothing in reply as they walked along the corridor. Seth looked back at her, she seemed content to look around, take in her new surroundings, so Seth let her have peace.
He thought he may as well try and size the woman up in his head, she seemed pleasant enough, but would of course have to adapt. Seth had a feeling she would settle in better than Seth had, and a lot quicker than Seth was settling in. He was trying not to be judgmental, what with Rylka being Starfleet, and having served for a great deal longer than Seth by the looks of her rank. Seth wanted and also did 'not' want to like the Federation. He would serve, and that would be it.
They eventually reached the appropriate quarters. "Well, here we are, ma'am. Your quarters, I suggest you settle in. Have you read the mission briefing?"
<Tag Rylka>
With that, Seth left for the bridge.

Understanding what Commander trek was saying Park moved to the secondary tactical station as Thomas took the primary station. Park ran a scan looking for a interference signal he was thinking since the intruder alert hadn't sounded then may have used a signal.
The scan was long and he was starting to think it was going to end in failure, just as the system came back with a signal trance. Jon looked at it and ran a comparison to the security lag. It matched perfectly Park tried to trace it back to the source. The trace was becoming difficult but he found it ran back to the medical facility. ~Could the romulians be robbing them self. But blaming a Thief.~ John thought. Not sure if he should bring this to waterson's attaion yet he continued the scan.
After a hour of trying to find the source Park gave up but instructed the computer to alert him and Commander waterson if that same signal is used again. He scanned the medical complex and all seemed fine but why the same place twice. Jon went to a padd of the items that were stolen the first time and what was the shipped or manufactured before the second attack. A few item Jon knew were medicine's and always were being replaced after they were out .
Scanning the list Jon found a romulian drug that was stolen and then replaced to be stolen again. The drug was to repair a neurological disorder. Why steal a drug that was of no use to a healthy romulain. Taking the name down Jon tapped his combadge =/\= Park to Doctor Grey and Commander Rylka. I have a question about a romulian drug used for a mental disorder. Can we meet in sickbay?"
