The bridge had too many officers on it, all trying to grab a piece of information about the recent happenings on Yavin III. The Internal Thief struck again, and rumors were spreading as to how.
"I heard that there was a night watchman that wasn't supposed to be there." a security lieutenant said to a crewmate as they passed Nack leaving the bridge.
'My words travel fast' Nack realized. He made a mental note that he shall need to better control who hears his postulates.
Norel had been very understanding - she was working 100% with Commander Waterson, and both had witness the actual theft, the way it happened. It wasn't, after all, the security guard. Both Waterson's and Norel's debrief would confirm that. Nack left the situation with the Romulan alone, afraid he might say something foolish to make the Manager of the medical facility change her mind about placing blame.
He informed Commander Waterson of the security findings, Park was still working on them.
"And Doctor Grey will be informing me of the full extent of where our marked money has gone," referring to, of course, the gold pressed latinum with the hidden beacon.
Lieutenant Helacaan arrived on the bridge and informed Commander Nack of the arrival of the new Counselor.
"New Counselor?" Nack rolled his eyes. 'wonderful'. Starfleet probably sent her after his heart attack. Perhaps Doctor Grey was even behind this. Regardless, he despised the profession, even though some of his best friends were psychologists. Back on Ferenginar, though, the art of psychology was not used in a counseling setting.
"Commander Waters, I require a report - our ship is in your hands, but I can only do what you suggest. Until Commanders Park and Trek trace where those transports led to, we need to get moving."
Nack snagged Lieutenant Helacaan by the arm as he walked by. "I'm going to have you work with Waterson here." he said out loud. Pulling Seth aside, though, he whispered, "keep an eye on her. I don't trust her."
It was the first incident of Nack's down-spiral as a Captain, pulling others into his irrational thoughts. Before, while talking to Lucy and Dan, it was in private, and he was not making decisions based on his silly fears. Now, though, he was.
Perhaps it was good. After all, a Counselor was aboard, and could give the paranoid Ferengi some of her thoughts. Convincing Nack of it, however, was going to be a different matter.

Hearing the reports that were coming in, Lisa was beginning to feel dizzy. Tracing the latinum, trying to trace the transport, the security breaches on the Nevada…all of it only emphasized the fact that this had been an absolute failure, and she didn’t have as much control over the satiation as she had previously believed. This had been a royal disaster and the consequences were most likely going to be drastic, for her, for the Nevada, and for the diplomatic relationship between the Federation and the Romulan Empire… Bad things would come from this.
Slumping back into the seat, Lisa sighed heavily, her head dropping forward to look down at the deck. Commander Waterson was the very picture of defeated, and now the situation was pretty much out of her hands. She was a doctor and temporary investigator, and there was very little she could do. Eventually, she would be able to track the merchandise taken from Yavin III on the black market, but right here and right now, the doctor was completely and entirely useless. "Commander Waters, I require a report - our ship is in your hands, but I can only do what you suggest. Until Commanders Park and Trek trace where those transports led to, we need to get moving." Nack requested, sounding frustrated.
With another heavy sigh, Lisa stood and turned to face Manager Norel and Lieutenant Helacaan, who was approaching them. “I’m sorry….I thought I had enough information to stop this, but it appears someone was one step ahead of me. I…I will return to my quarters. My usefulness has worn itself out. I’m only any help before the crime occurs and then dealing with the eventual aftermath on the black market to gather more information for next time, not these actual attempts to catch them like this. I’ll leave that up to those more suited to this type of work.”
Turning to address the Romulan woman more specifically, Waterson could barely look her in the eye. “I am truly sorry for your facilities loss and my inability to keep you and your resources safe. Please convey my deepest sympathies to Doctor Teyak and Captain Brikom, as well as everyone else at your hospital.” Shifting her gaze to Lieutenant Helacaan, Lisa added, “I have every confidence in your ability to do your best to find them. I’m sure you and Commander Park will do all that you can to make sure this stops here and now. I’ll need a secure comm channel in my quarters to contact Intelligence and inform them of the situation.”
<Tag Helacaan>
With a sad smile and a nod to the two people she had worked closely with on this mission, Lisa crossed the bridge to speak to the Captain. “Sir...” she started before taking a deep breath and starting again. “I’m sorry I let you down, Sir. I thought I had this under control, but clearly I never had any control here, just information that didn’t end up being enough to help.” With yet another shaky sigh, the doctor glanced around the bridge at all the people hard at work trying to find a way to fix this mess before looking back at Nack. “I didn’t see this coming. The thief seemed to be one step ahead and circumvented the measures in place to stop it. This has happened before, but never this badly before. I’m sorry…”
“I have no idea what to do next. This was a one shot type of thing, and now it’s over. All we can do now is what your crew is already working so hard on, trying to track down the transport, money, security breaches… There’s still a chance that perhaps someone can find something, but I’m sure the thief is long gone already by now. All we can do now is gather as much information as possible to help for next time and try and make sure the Romulans don’t blame us for this. I’ve done all I can, Sir, but now I’ve reached the end of what I can do.” Lisa reported sadly. “All I have left is to return to my quarters and contact Intelligence. I already requested a secure channel transferred to my quarters, with your permission of course, Sir.”

"New Counselor?" Nack rolled his eyes. 'wonderful'.
That was not the reaction Seth had been expecting to his informing of the Captain. Nack turned and wandered away from Seth, back to the Command arena. What's his problem with Counselors? he thought gruffly, without any real commitment of thought. It didn't matter too much to Seth, he was just doing his job.
He found it hard, trying to go on in life with this job. I don't think I'll ever adapt, he thought defeatistly. It was something that had perked itself up in his mind earlier, when escorting the new Counselor to her quarters. There was too much that had already happened in Seth's life, to allow him to settle elsewhere. Or was it something else, something inside himself that didn't want him to settle? Seth knew that that was the truth, and it was not a deep-rooted feeling either. He steeled himself to the job at hand.
The Operations Chief went about the bridge, checking on various things, until a hand grabbed him almost roughly by the arm. He looked to his right, concealing the annoyance behind an expression of neutrality. It was the Captain.
"I'm going to have you work with Waterson here," said Nack. Seth wondered why the Captain then looked around the bridge, as if feigning innocence.
Then he took Seth further aside, almost to the bulkhead. "Keep an eye on her. I don't trust her." The Captain rasped a whisper at him. Ah. Seth thought, That would be why. Not being particularly suspicious by nature, Seth had to wonder at what the Captain's logic was here. Even though he did keep a fair level of suspicion towards people, it just wasn't in his nature. While not knowing the Ferengi as a species all that well, Seth could imagine they were a fairly distrustful race, based on their other characteristics anyway.
"Yes, sir.." Seth finally said it, with tones of confusion and with an edge of insistence in his voice. It wasn't his place to question the Captain's orders, considering his fairly lowly rank. "You think she's part responsible for all of this, sir?" He whispered back. Nack nodded. Seth contemplated asking 'how' close an eye the Captain wanted him to keep on the medical investigator. He decided against it, choosing to rely on his own experience with such things, if something was amiss with Waterson, Seth would find it.
Nack gave him a nod and Seth sauntered off towards Waterson and Norel, looking back at the CO for a few more seconds, in what he guessed was his own confusion.
Waterson was looking very forlorn, diminished from her former confidence earlier in the mission, the briefing, the armoury, the transporter room, the surface... everywhere that Seth had seen her. "...I’ll leave that up to those more suited to this type of work.” She finished, and Seth found himself wondering what the Captain's worries about her were founded on, Thin air perhaps, he thought.
Seth emphasised with the woman, the mission had clearly thus far taken a lot out of her, and it had already failed. He simply nodded in acknowledgement, "We will do our best for you sir," he added.
“I have every confidence in your ability to do your best to find them. I’m sure you and Commander Park will do all that you can to make sure this stops here and now. I’ll need a secure comm channel in my quarters to contact Intelligence and inform them of the situation.”
Now 'that' is suspicious. A secure comm channel in her quarters, so she can communicate with the 'Thief'? It seemed immediate obvious to Seth, but he stopped himself. Removed from what Nack had told him to do, the request seemed entirely reasonable. Of course she would need to tell HQ what had happened, it was quite obvious that that was necessary. But did it need to be a secure channel? All it seemed to serve was to arouse suspicion. Not being an expert in such things, Seth decided to leave it and wait for further instructions from the Captain. He was following orders, to a reasonable level of ability, that was enough.
Waterson left him and Norel, offering a weak smile in their direction, and heading off to the Captain. Watching them with interest, Seth noted how Nack reacted to Waterson's request for the secure comm channel. Seth looked at Norel, "What are your plans now Manager?"
"I don't know. I may return to the Hospital, to see what I can do." Seth nodded in response.
"OK," he said and looked away from her, slightly embarrassed that he had been unable to do anything for her in preventing the rob of her base.

"Where... where am I?"
"You are in main sickbay, Captain." Ensign Ranquist said to him in a soft voice before tapping her combadge. =/\=Doctor Grey, the Captain is awake. =/\=
"What happened?" Nack asked, sitting up only to find that movement of any kind caused a powerful pain in his head, along with an unpleasant dizzy sensation.
"You had another heart attack, sir." The female nurse said, checking to be sure that Nack's movements did not disrupt the sensor arrays tracking his internal functions. His heart could be seen beating on the screen, certain ventricles highlighted with data streaming past. The angle was awkward, so Nack had to ask what he was seeing.
"You are lucky Doctor Waterson found you and administered first-aid before we could get you down here."
His last memory was that of standing in front of the door of the Starfleet investigator. She had invited him to her quarters, partially to apologize for what she called a 'waste of Starfleet's resources'. She was beating herself up, Nack remembered, over not catching the Internal Thief, and having to start over... holding onto, Nack assumed, the last straw that perhaps Lucy would uncover something with the monetary transfer for the heart.
"I don't remember much past the embarrassment of activating the door-chime twice..." The next he knew, he was in sickbay.
"Generally your memories return to you slowly. Just rest for now," the nurse replied, but Nack wanted more information.
"What did Commander Waterson say happened?"
"I wasn't here when you were brought in, but I'll check." She pulled up Nack's file, particularly the log from which she read the report taken from Waterson.
"It says here... When Commander Waterson came to her door, she found Captain Nack. They" she modified her words, "er, you exchanged pleasantries, and she let you come in. As she was about to start discussing business with you, you fell over, hit an end-table on the way down, giving you nasty bruising, and were lying on the ground. She determined you had another heart attack when the heart monitor went off that you were wearing, and administered first aid until transporting you here."
Nack instinctively put his hand to his neck and cringed. It felt similar to the soreness caused from a hypospray, but the pain was much more excruciating when touched.
Actually, it felt just like the pain from a hypospray, just more, he thought. "Do you have a mirror, Ensign?"
She handed him the nearest looking glass, and he immediately looked at the bruise on his neck. He ignored his dizziness, as he was on to something; or so he thought. The bruise was round in shape, and fueled the fire that Nack was about to use to inflame the crew.
"I'm starting to remember more," the Ferengi said, leaving Ensign Ranquist wondering what he was talking about. He was beginning to gibber about being bamboozled... talking nonsense, as far as the nurse was concerned. Given his fragile state, the nurse called for the Counselor.
=/\= Counselor Rylka, when you get a chance, can you come to sickbay. =/\= she said quietly. There was no need to let the Captain know that she called for the Counselor by announcing it loudly.
Nack continued piecing together his thoughts. "I bet she was the Thief all along." he said.
"You were probably dreaming." the nurse made the mistake of saying.
Nack's eyes went from wandering around the room as he made claims against the investigating commander, to pointing directly at the Ensign, who had just noticed her disrespectful mistake. "I'm starting to piece this all together now, Missy," he hissed, "and you better hope I don't find that you are involved in this too!"
The threat was unbecoming a commanding officer, however, Nack insisted that his memory was returning, and anyone who disagreed was going to be deemed an impostor of some sort. The nurse, wishing Counselor Rylka or Doctor Grey would arrive quicker, decided to just listen in false agreement.
"I entered the room, and I'm pretty sure I sat down, so I wouldn't have been standing like she said." Nack sounded like he was convincing himself of these memories more than it sounded like him recollecting lost thoughts. "Yeah, that's what it was. I sat there, and we talked." He tried to piece the next bit together. "She asked me if I was feeling alright... I said I was fine. She asked if she could just make sure," Nack got frustrated... "And then I don't remember anything until I am here."
He looked at his neck again. "She did this!" he hissed again. "I know it. I didn't have a heart attack. I wasn't stressed out. I was doing fine." he turned to the Ensign, "Do I ever seem stressed?" The readings, though, showed that Nack did have a heart attack, and there was no denying that. The nurse didn't need to answer his question, due to its rhetorical value.
The situation in sickbay became hostile quickly, as Nack was thrashing about, wanting to confront Commander Waterson desperately. Ensign Ranquist, clearly not comfortable with the situation, and without Doctor Grey's or Doctor Rylka's help yet, called for Commander Trek.
=/\= I think you really need to get down here, sir=/\= was the end of her transmission.

|Medical center inventory control room
=/\= Park to Doctor Grey and Commander Rylka. I have a question about a romulian drug used for a mental disorder. Can we meet in sickbay?"
=/\= Grey here. I'll be there in five minutes. =/\=
<Rylka>
Dr. Grey rushed through her fourth go-around with the inventory list. It was either lying to her or the truth had been hidden deep in the matrix of the padd. Whatever that meant. Lucy had heard a computer programmer say that once and right now it seemed to fit just fine.
The CMO was standing at the door when Cmdr. Park arrived, followed by Cmdr. Rylka shortly thereafter.
"What's up?" Lucy asked. She immediately turned and moved toward her office.

"I'm on my way, Ensign," Dan replied from the Bridge. "You have the Bridge," he said to the helmsman before leaving.
He got to sickbay as quickly as he could. "Ensign," he said, as he entered Sickbay, calling her over while watching his enraged Captain.
"Commander, we have to do something about Commander Waterson!" Nack half-yelled across Sickbay at the First Officer.
After Ranquist came over, she filled Dan in about Nack's suspicion about the hypospray.
"Captain, you need to calm down," Dan said, approaching Nack cautiously.
"I will not calm down, Number One!" he shouted back.
"Captain, you know as well as I do, even more so in fact, that administering Inaprovaline by hypospray is standard procedure in treating cardiac arrest. Could that be what's happened here?"

Commander Park headed for sickbay with the Padd in hand and ordered the lift to take him there. Exiting the lift he headed to sickbay and entered the office section and almost ran into Dr. Grey. "Doctor i may have found a reason for the thefts at this facility. I ran down down a drug that maybe why the thief may have targeted this facility." Park handed Dr.Grey the Padd. Just then the new Counselor Commander Rylka entered.
As Dr.Grey informed Commander Rylka about the drug they talked about why it would be stolen. Commander Park Moved to the doors looking out to sickbay to see the captain in a bio-bed and Commander trek talking.Dan was talking fast and he heard Watterson's name.
Coming over Park listened to the captain explain to Dan what he suspected. The captain was almost finished when he saw Jon and motioned him over. Jon moved over to the Bio-Bed and listened to the rest. "Captain should i have security place her under arrest for suspicion of assault on a commanding officer?"

Just then Dr.Grey and Commander Rylka called Park back into the office. Turning to the office after the captain gave his orders and entered the office to see Dr.Grey sitting at the computer with Rylka standing behind her. "What have u found doctor?"

"YES!" Nack shouted, slurred still due to the lack of energy from the blood thinners. "Place her under arrest."
"Belay those orders, Commander," Commander Trek yelled out. "I am relieving Captain Nack of duty."
Nack was speechless. He let out a long hiss at the Commander, an action he rarely performed.
"He is to remain here until a psychological evaluation by Commander Rylka can be administered." Commander Trek punched a few buttons, and activated the forcefield restraints. "You need to relax, Captain!" he shouted. It was unlike Dan to shout so loud, and it snapped Nack out of his tirade.
The crew was at an impasse. Who do they believe? Nack, who was clearly showing signs of distress, or Commander Trek, who was calm and collective?
Nack calmed himself down and spoke. "Can we at least... " he was breathing heavily, coming down from his anger, "... can we at least have her watched. I'm telling you, she put that hypospray to my neck BEFORE I passed out." Nack had told himself those were the facts so many times now, that he solidly believed them, no matter their validity.
The problem for Commander Park was, there was no evidence, except for the Captain's hearsay, to place Commander Waterson under arrest. Commander Trek made the right decision in belaying the Captain's orders. Relieving him of duty, the first officer realized, was a stretch, and reinstated his rights as a Captain, under the condition that he gather more evidence before implicating Waterson.
"I'm going to ask Park, if there are no objections, to do some research on our guest." It was unlikely that Park would come up with anything, but it would at least calm the nerves of Nack, so Commander Trek didn't disagree. "Have Commander Helacaan help if the comm systems need tapping."
Nack added one more thing. "And Park... can you please not run around here like a chicken with your head cut off? You seem to be everywhere, and it's driving me insane!" One could say, though, that Nack already was in the state of insanity. "Take your time, do whatever you need to do... but be thorough." With that, Park left sickbay.
Nack let out a long sigh, followed by a cough. "Are you going to let me out of these restraints now?"
Dan Trek let loose the restraints. "Sorry about that, Captain."
"No problem..." Nack replied. "I needed a good proverbial slap in the face." He sat up slowly.
"Do me one favor, Commander," Nack said to Dan as Dan nodded back. "Make sure Park doesn't implicate our guest before we've found anything." Nack still thought Park would find something, and still thought Waterson was behind his sickness, but he was starting to doubt his own feelings. The idea of getting in trouble with Starfleet again didn't amuse him. "The last thing we need to do is implicate falsely one of Starfleet's finest."
Dan clearly thought all along there was nothing to be found, and thus, fully agreed. Waterson would be found innocent of everything, and Nack would get a psychological evaluation for his paranoia. Those were Commander Trek's thoughts, anyway.

As he left Sickbay to return to the Bridge, Dan was turned. Which part of his training would he adhere to? Logical reasoning, where he wouldn't make baseless conclusions and snap decisions? Or loyalty and support to his Captain? Loyalty or Logic? It was a difficult decision.
What he desired most was evidence, to corroborate either story. Unfortunately, he could not get it. He knew better than anyone on the ship that the internal sensor records wouldn't yield him the information he needed. Biometric scans weren't routine procedure, and the records also wouldn't reveal pose, only position, so he couldn't tell what Nack and Commander Waterson were doing.
Active scanning at the time could have provided the information, but there was just too much that went on all at once, all the time, on a starship to record it all in detail. So there was no way to know the reason for Waterson administering the hypospray.
All this weighed on his mind as he resumed his place on the Bridge.

"Energise."
Seth watched as the Nevada's transporter took Manager Norel back down to Yavin III. He smiled reassuringly at her and she returned it, tentatively, and then the matter-energy device whisked her away from the ship and away from Seth. While the Captain was in sickbay and Commander Trek decided what he was going to do, Seth knew the Nevada would likely be staying in orbit a good while longer. They were not about to depart imminently or anything, or so he hoped.
The Wezean sighed, and looked slowly about the transporter room, his thoughts wandering. Then, with a nod to the transporter operator he walked slowly through the door, the speed with which he was walking meaning that he did not at all have to wait for the doors to hiss open.
Seth trudged along the corridor leading to the turbolift, listening to the omnipresent hum of the ship, the throbbing power of the vessel that could just be felt under feet, no more than a very slight vibration; barely noticeable, pretty much not at all in fact.
A fellow officer walked by and Seth wondered if she was going to ask if he was alright. It would not have been unusual for her to, Seth had his eyes down looking at the deck, his coarse rough hair was ill-kept, he looked like he hadn't shaved in a few days. No, Seth thought as the female officer walked by, she hadn't said anything. Instead she had given him a strange look, what had that been? Oh of course... It had been an unknowing look! The woman had not recognised Seth, not at all. This didn't surprise him at all, not any more than her asking him if he was OK would have.
Seth entered the turbolift and asked for the bridge. He absent-mindedly - pensively rather - ran a hand over his face and chin. Norel will be fine, he told himself. The Romulan Hospital that had just been robbed blind, must have been cursing their luck; assuming they were calling it luck, and weren't directing blame at Starfleet. Seth wondered what she was and had been doing to convince Teyak and co. of that.
On the bridge...
Seth issued orders to a couple of Ops personnel standing at the back left of the bridge behind the Ops console, effectively getting them to move off so they wouldn't be able to see what Seth was doing. He worked the console, rerouting comm receivers, fixing them as listening devices with the effective purpose of spying on Doctor Waterson, just as Commander Park had requested. He looked to check again that no one was watching, Seth felt that something like this should remain known only to the senior staff. It wouldn't do any good for more to find out, Waterson would doubtless find out in no time.
Seth told himself not to enjoy being back in the action, just like old times. Spying, listening, performing operations (such as this) for his family, his world. It did feel good though, having something to do, something that he could do well.

Commander Park was listening to Dr.Gray and Commander Rylka as they spoke of why this drug was stolen twice. Commander Park didn't know a lot about that drug but he guessed Dr.Grey did since she was excited on what it could mean. "Excuse me Doctor." As Jon saw a way in to the conversation. "The captain needs me to look into something important. Contact me if you find out something i can send to there security chief." Nodding he headed to the bridge looking for Seth.
As Jon entered the lift he tapped his combadge =/\= "Park to Salfer." After a few seconds she responded. "Meet me on the bridge. Park out" Smiling he ordered his destination to the lift "Bridge."
The lift took him to the bridge and Park went to the replicator just beside his terminal "Computer access Starfleet Uniform dress database." After a few seconds the computer beeped. " computer requesting one half pip for uniform." The computer prompted "Command code required." Park knew this would happen so he replied "Park Jon Security code Alpha 24 Charlie Blue 7." The computer replied "Code verified." as the half pip appeared in the tray of the replicator.
Lieutenant Salfer stepped off the turbolift and look around the bridge. Jon looked at her collar and saw two pips thinking how he can surprise her she saw him and headed to him "You called for me, Sir." She asked "Yes Lieutenant i did." She was looking around sine Park raised his voice a little so the bridge could here him. " For service to the Nevada and her crew and in keeping with the tradition of Starfleet i here by bestow upon you the Rank of LT.Commander with all the rights and privileges that comes with." Jon finished fixing the pip to her collar as a round of applause started over by the helm and filled the bridge.
After the applause stopped Jon told her " The captain wanted to be here but was unable i am sure he will congratulate you when he can. Now Commander take the secondary tactical station." Commander Salfer moved past him and took the station. Jon was Seth over by Ops heading over he spoke " Lieutenant Helacaan the captain want to see if we can hear what Commander waterson is saying on the secure line can we tap in without her knowing and monitor her conversation?"

" Lieutenant Helacaan the captain want to see if we can hear what Commander waterson is saying on the secure line can we tap in without her knowing and monitor her conversation?"
Seth looked up from the Ops console at the Commander. Park had just now promoted an officer, on the bridge. Seth had, naturally, offered polite applause, but it was no more than that. He didn't know the officer, and wasn't really too interested in her promotion. A bit heartless some might say but he could not help how he felt. "I should be able to do that sir," he said in a lowered voice, he still felt that this should be kept secret to a select few, "But I cannot guarantee that she will not be able to detect it." Park nodded and signalled for Seth to continue when it appeared to him that the Ops Chief had more to say. "So sir... it could be risky," Seth said, "I do not recommend it."
<tag>
Seth looked with interest at Park, curious to see his reaction. He did not expect a negative reaction but then he could never be sure. He looked over Park's shoulder at Commander Trek who seemed to be taking an interest in what the two were talking about.
Then, from over the bridge the newly promoted Lieutenant Commander spoke up. "We're being hailed from the surface of the planet. It's the Romulans." Seth turned to her with interest and then looked at the forward screen. Trek signalled for a channel to be opened and Manager Norel appeared on the viewscreen. Seth looked on, his face expressionless. What's this about? he wondered.
"Nevada." Norel acknowledged the ship with a nod. As brief as ever, Seth thought, a smile flickered across his face. "I have spoken to my superiors including the hospital administrator. I attempted to exclude you from any suspicion on our part, and I am afraid," she paused slightly, "That it has not been taken too well." Romulans were never dry in humour, what they said was what they meant, therefore it could not be as bad as it sounded.
Trek spoke with her for a few more moments and it was all Seth could do to not speak up. The channel was closed.
<tag>
Great, so the Romulans don't trust us. Seth visibly shook his head, and turned away from the Ops console, to the consoles of the rear of the bridge behind him.
"Us..." he muttered aloud and shook his head again.

"Status! I need Status!" Nack barked at Commander Trek. The final s's on the word 'status' hissed out from between the yellow-green teeth as a slippery whistle.
The doors closed, "Well?" Nack tapped his foot as he looked upward at his First Officer. His Napoleonic stature, perhaps, played into the way Nack was always in demand for information. If he couldn't be on top, literally, he wished to be on top factually.
"Nothing yet? Hmph." Commander Trek reported that both Park and Helacaan were on it, but also stated that they were acting very cautiously.
"You never know how she'll react if she finds out." Nack was reminded.
"I'm more concerned about my ship than what some blond bimbo thinks of me." That is, of course, unless Nack was wrong about her - in which case that 'blond bimbo' would probably submit a horrific report to command... which was something Nack purposefully sought to avoid this mission. Dan reminded Nack of that, but of course, Nack traveled alone down obscure pathways of thought. Reality usually only set in when it reared its ugly head in an unwavering set of facts. The senior staff was in the process of gathering those facts, and Nack would soon be smacked by their findings.
Dan told Nack of the plans to have Doctor Rylka speak with him - perhaps to calm him down. "The last thing you need is a third heart attack."
"I only had ONE heart attack!" Nack insisted, again, in a fit of anger. "one! oNE! ONE!, ... ONE!" He pointed up one stubby little finger. "ONE!"
His rude comments were received well by the Commander, as Dan Trek was an old enough being to have seen, dealt with, and move past such nonsense. It wasn't productive, and the engineering side of him never looked at the facts subjectively in such a matter that Nack always seemed to.
"Well, as soon as she has a spare minute, I told her to get into contact with you." Dan said calmly. He didn't wish to argue the number of heart attacks that Nack had. The Ferengi had two, and everyone knew it. Nack convinced himself fully by now that Waterson had drugged him, and the heart attack was induced - but Doctor Grey had shown that was very unlikely, in fact, almost impossible.
"So be it," Nack replied. "As long as she isn't getting in the way, I'll permit it."
Commander Trek realized it was the closest that he was going to get to a full-out "yes" and dropped that matter.
Nack paced a couple of times, stopping a few times to look up at Dan, as if he was going to speak, and then continuing the pace a few more steps before turning around. After a few iterations of this, Nack finally spoke.
"Double the efforts. I want something on Waterson immediately."
"What if we find nothing?" Always sensible, Dan was starting to get on Nack's nerves.
"I'll make a deal with you," the Ferengi loved making a good deal.
"Let's hear it."
"If we double our efforts, and say, in the next forty eight hours we find no evidence indicating Waterson is deceiving us in some way," Nack never really did explain how she would be deceiving the crew, but he continued, "then I will drop the issue, never to bring it up again. We'll take her back to Starbase Assailant, and be on our happy little way."
"But.."
"But..." Nack's face came as close as it could to Dan's, Nack's forehead to Dan's chin. "If I am right." he laughed slightly, almost maniacally, "well... there's going to be some house cleaning done on this ship." He stopped short of threatening the First Officer's commission.
And Nack was dead serious.

“We had everything in place, Sir. Commander Park and Lieutenant Helacaan had worked with hospital security and operations to reinforce their protective measures, and had even located a problem with the surveillance systems and fixed that, but obviously it was too little too late. I would assume that the arrangements to have the resource transported out were already in place by the time we got here,” Lisa reported, working very hard to keep her face blank and her voice calm.
Shaking his head in dismay, Commander Ryerson sighed deeply. “This is not going to go over well, Commander Waterson. You assured me that your intelligence and methods were solid and would allow you to stop or at least positively influence this raid. Now you’re telling me not only did the Thief get away with it in the first place, but it was also entirely successful?” her superior questioned, clearly frustrated.
Trying to remain unphased, at least in appearances, the doctor replied, “My intelligence was sound, Commander. This facility was indeed the next target, just as I predicted. My methods were just as sound and would have prevented or limited any of the previous attacks. However, finding a way to transport what was wanted directly out of the target has never been utilized before. This was an entirely new method, and therefore, my methods were not designed to counteract it. I’ve emphasized again and again, Sir, this is no ordinary rogue thief, but a highly trained, highly skilled individual who has eluded everyone at every turn.”
Running his fingers through his hair, Van Ryerson sighed again. “I am well aware of this, Commander, and I realize that no one is to blame for this. However, that doesn’t make the repercussions of his success any less detrimental.” With another heavy sigh, the man slumped back into his chair, looking as defeated as Lisa had earlier on the bridge, before asking, “What about the Romulans? You’ve met and worked with the people directly affected. How do you think they will react?”
Tilting her head to one side to consider the question before replying, Lisa finally answered, “To be honest, I’m not entirely sure. Doctor Teyak was a reasonable man, and Manager Norel, who worked with us on the Nevada, has been entirely reasonable. I do not believe she will blame us, and although the administrator will be upset with good reason, I do not believe he will blame us either. However, they are only the hospitals representatives. The colony government, as well as the Romulan government and their reactions are a complete unknown to me, Sir.”
Nodding once, Commander Ryerson replied, “Understood. We can only hope that somehow the reports from Doctor Teyak and Manager Norel will be supportive of our efforts and cast the blame away from us. Even with their defense, we can’t assume that the others will follow through. Speak to Doctor Teyak and see how much damage control you can do with him and hope it translates to everyone else.”
“Understood, Sir, I still have several people to report to, but I’ll contact the doctor next.” Waterson promised, receiving only a nod from her immediate boss before the screen went dark. With a heavy sigh, Lisa slumped into her chair, trying to regroup before making the next call to Doctor Teyak. There were so many people she had to contact…it felt like she could easily spend the next day or two on the comm system. It was a frustrating, but necessary, part of this job apparently.

This was a new experience. This was the first time Dan could recall his career being on the line due to his opinion. The serious situation called for serious measures.
Dan went briefly to the Engineering station, relieved the engineer manning it, and spent a few minutes putting together one very special isolinear chip. It was probably some of the fastest coding he had ever done. Amazing what a person could do under pressure...
The chip in hand, he crossed the Bridge to Commander Park. "Commander, you may recall the assignment I gave to you with regards to surveillance of Commander Waterson?" he said in a low voice.
After Park nodded, he continued. "This will aid you," he said, handing over the isolinear chip. "It's a special surveillance protocol. It'll track her every nanosecond, where she is, what she's saying, what she's doing, what she's accessing on computer consoles...everything. This will do pretty much everything except read her mind. It's also encrypted with the highest security I could give it. What it records will only be accessible from the station you plug the chip in to."
He paused a moment. "Commander Park, the surveillance of Commander Waterson is, as of now, your highest and only priority. You are to delegate all other security matters to members of your staff. This is to receive your full attention, is that clear?"

Jon was standing next to Lieutenant Helacaan as they both were working on attempting to listen to the conversation on Commander Watterson. An hour after they started Commander Trek came over and handed him a isolinear chip.
Listening to Commander Trek's instructions he nodded and turned to his friend at tactical. "Commander Thomas assist Lieutenant Helacaan here and i will be in my office." Park looked at Dan and left the bridge. The lift took him down to deck 15 and he turned left entering the office he headed behind his desk. "Computer Lockout alpha." The computer beeped and he heard the door lock. Park put the isolinear chip into his console and ran the program.
On the screen he found the terminal show her still in her quarters and on her console. The program showed she was using the computer. Jon put the program on the rear display screen so he could use his terminal. Accessing the Starfleet database for Commander Watterson and was cross-referencing it with all the items and places attacked when the program noted she was moving to sickbay.
Park noted this and continued to track her returning to the computer screen her checked the scan. There was many items that were stolen at all of the places that were attacked. Commander Park jotted that down on a Padd and contiued to read the computer.

"Wezean Coffee?"
~Please specify another beverage.~
Seth didn't think the replicator would have his favourite energy drink, why would it? Why would it even know of it?
"OK. Give me ordinary coffee, white, with a dash of something spicy." The whirring of the replicator sounded, and the machine deposited a small cup containing a rough approximation of Wezean Coffee. Seth took the cup in his hand and turned to the console on the other side of the Operations room. He sat in the chair by the station and stirred his cup of coffee with the spoon.
Wezea or Wezen was the old name of Ascension's star, or to use the official constellationary name, Canis Major Delta. Seth couldn't remember where the name had originated from, Hebrew or something similar maybe.
He swung his weary eyes towards the console's display, he was still trying to monitor Dr. Waterson's activity and quite frankly, he was tired with it. The whole effort was entirely pointless, serving only to further fuel the imagination of the Nevada's quite clearly unstable Captain. What's Park doing? Seth thought. The disillusioned Ops officer hadn't seen Commander Park in over three hours, and they were supposed to be working together. The CTSO had not informed Seth that this had changed, he had no indication to think the otherwise.
Seth controlled the simmering anger. Anger.. such a harsh word, he had not felt it for a while. Bitterness, sadness, heaviness weighing on his heart, all had been experienced by him recently. He continued to stare forward, neutrally; no, neutralised. Neutralised by the expectation, the weight of formality, burdens he should not have been carrying. Here he was, sacrificing so much, and his efforts were not appreciated. Not that they weren't acknowledged but the Captain had him on a chase that would lead nowhere. Sitting looking at a screen was not what Seth was cut out for. He should have been up and about, doing... things. Now that it had crossed his mind, he realised there was not much for him to do which involved exercising things other than the brain. Not here anyway... he thought sadly.
The chain of command and layers of communication in the UFP was a wonderful thing. The brass at Starfleet and the Federation Council were heavily involved in him being out here of course, but clearly and obviously that kind of thing did not filter down to ship's Captains. Therefore in that way Nack was not responsible. The whole system of it seemed tedious, it would never be changed, for everything there was a set way of thinking, in this case politics decided this was the best way. Well maybe it should be changed.
Then something interrupted Seth's ridiculously convoluted train of thought, it alerted his senses intermittently, yet consistently, and with a enough punctuation to it that it had well and truly gained Seth's attention. A small red light was beeping on the console, drawing his attention as if it was a supermagnet, with Seth's eyes drawn inexorably to it. Two eyebrows rose, and his eyes widened ever so slightly, he leant forward in a movement so small it was virtually unseeable. Words were then displayed on the screen.
INCOMING COMMUNICATION - SECURE CHANNEL
How's this being routed here... what is this? Seth tentatively reached forward and pressed the button to open the channel on his end. The screen activated and it was Norel. The first thing Seth did was to open his mouth very slightly in what was mild shock. "Lieutenant," she sounded hurried.
"Hello?" he answered simply, still frozen in surprise.
"I must hurry, our authorities have a lead on the 'thief'."
"What?" Seth practically whispered.
"I am disobeying orders in doing this, please listen," Norel continued patiently, "We have a lead on a warp trail leading away from this system. Unfortunately, my superiors still are extremely distrustful of the Nevada's intentions. They have effectively cut off contact with you and your fellow crewmembers."
"Teyak seemed like a reasonable man." Seth countered, he had now regained his composure.
"Yes, he is doubtful as well as me, but he has to answer to authorities higher than his self." Seth nodded minutely. "I am sending all the data on the warp trail that we have detected..." Norel looked down at what was apparently a console infront of her. Seth leant further forward, looking at the Romulan across the open channel. He gazed - his vision abridged by the carrier signal over the empty space - at her until she noticed and looked up again, "Leave," she insisted, her typical authoritative tone coming out, but she had said it in a quieter tone than usual, hardly more than a whisper, "Pursue them." The channel blinked out before Seth could say anything.
Rising from his seat and striding from the room, Seth headed for the bridge, he would be talking to the Captain personally in a few moments. Whether the Captain would act upon learning such news was the uncertainty, what with his concerns being closer to home. Seth thought - as he briskly trotted along the corridor - that he might bring that up as well, his place to do so? He didn't care, he hadn't been filled with as much purpose and urgency as this for a long time.

Nack wandered out of his ready room, indignant that he had not received any useful information from his staff.
"Status, Mr. Park," The word "status" was beginning to be hated by everyone on the bridge, as that's the only word - aside from each of their ranks and names - that the Ferengi Captain was able to utter lately.
Lieutenant Helacaan walked onto the bridge as Nack was being briefed on Park's progress. Commander Trek was still at work, trying to make any headway possible - as if something was going to occur just as Nack was questioning the Chief Tactical Officer that would redeem them both.
"If you don't have anything that is useful to me, I suggest you take it to Commander Trek." Nack's patience were thin, and the unwarranted snap at the Operations Officer raised eyebrows from everyone. Seth's expression, and lack of moment, made Nack reconsider his words. He relented a bit, and apologized. "Sorry. I'm a bit... tired." He avoided calling himself stressed.
He took the information from Helacaan, who waited patiently with Commander Park.
"Interesting." was all Nack said while reading. He repeated it several times. "Interesting.."
"Mr. Oidar," Nack said to the night helmsman, Commander Oidar Reylf, "Set a course to follow the ion trail- Warp four."
The Bajoran helmsman set the course as Nack turned back to Seth.
"Keep tabs on that trail."
Turning to Park, and subsequently Trek, "Keep working at it." Everyone knew what 'it' was.Almost immediately Waterson protested the movement of the ship. =/\= Waterson to Captain Nack =/\= Nack's face suddenly flushed red as the unexpected communique came through. He considered not answering it, to pretend like he was asleep... but she was too smart for that. Even though he suspected her of wrongdoing, he had a soft spot when dealing directly with her. He started to question, now, his original claims against her. He rubbed his neck in remembrance of what he thought occurred... perhaps he did have a heart attack...
=/\= Go ahead, Commander. =/\= Nack let out a long sigh as soon as the channel clicked close for the response.
=/\= I've detected that we've changed course. I was not made aware of this. =/\= "Because I didn't tell you," Nack mocked for the benefit of the rest of the crew listening to the interchange. He hadn't reactivated his communicator yet. Composing himself, he answered.
=/\= We are following ion trails.=/\==/\= I've already investigated those, and it is taking us away from where I need to be for continuing the investigation. Permission to take a runabout back to Yavin III. =/\= Nack sighed. The evidence that Seth found suggested that she was not involved - or if she was - she would want to at least follow the trail. That's what Nack was thinking, anyway.
=/\= Permission granted. =/\= The Captain said to everyone's surprise. After the last few days of tirades, where he insisted she was guilty, he just lets her go? At least she would be out of his hair, Nack figured. Figuratively speaking, of course.
"Do you think you can stay in contact with Manager Norel?" Nack asked Helacaan. "It might prove useful if the Romulans come up with any more ideas or evidence."
"And even though Waterson is gone," Nack reiterated to Park and Trek, "I still want you looking into her." However, by letting her go, Nack already informally admitted to the crew that he was wrong. It would be unlikely that he would bring her name up again. "I also need you to find the ship at the end of this ion trail."
Nack was spreading his senior staff thin. It would be up to the First Officer, Commander Dan Trek, to formally assign duties - as Nack's direction had everyone doing an impossible set of tasks.
...
A few hours later, it was confirmed that Commander Waterson had left the ship, en route back to Yavin III. The USS Nevada, in turn, was heading away from Yavin III, and away from Starbase Conqueror... acting on the high likelihood they would run into the thief relatively soon.

She sighed slightly =/\= Counselor Rylka, when you get a chance, can you come to sickbay. =/\= =/\= Counselor Rylka Here, as soon as i get the chance i'll be there, Rylka out =/\= She looked to Dr Grey *if you'll excuse me i'm needed in sickbay* She said not waiting for an answering and making her way to sickbay. She found the captain in a acting very aggresively and approached the group careful. *Excuse me, but what seems to be the problem here?* <Tag anyone who cares to explain to the counselor whats happening >

The stress was clearly affecting the Captain. His orders didn't entirely make sense, in that they weren't all that clear, and were nearly impossible to carry out as stated. Time to do a little clarification.
"Mr. Helacaan," Dan began, doing his best to explain the Captain's intentions, or at least what he thought were the Captain's intention. "Do what you can to boost the signal on our long-range sensors as must as you can. Get help from engineering, if necessary. I want as much warning as possible as to the source of the ion trail."
"Mr. Park, continue your investigation of Commander Waterson. Analyze the information on her that you gathered while she was still here. Look for anything that might back up the Captain's claims. And check up on everything there is to know about Lisa Waterson. Everything Starfleet has on her. Let me know if you need additional security clearance to access it."
"Get to work, gentlemen," Dan said. "Expedience is of the utmost importance on this. Any questions?"

"Expedience is of the utmost importance on this. Any questions?"
"Understood sir. No questions." Seth minutely shook his head in addition to his simple, short reply. He was gratified that Trek had clarified the orders, Nack had effectively told him to do the same thing twice. Trek had just combined them into one.
The XO nodded at Seth's acknowledgement and the latter went to his station. Taking the Ops console, Seth rubbed his fingers into working order and started checking on the sensor grid. Sensor usage would have to be pulled from Science, which was hardly a problem, they didn't exactly have a use for them over there. The long range sensors could be boosted by some twenty-five percent, it was a reasonable increase, he knew, and should give them ample warning as to any sudden change in the direction of the warp trail.
"I believe I can boost the power to the sensors by taking from low priority departments, sirs," he spoke to Nack and Trek aloud. "That should be enough..."
Wait... he thought, What's this? In an instant the warp trail had disappeared from the sensors. In what was a scary moment, Seth ran another scan of the surrounding space, his hands passing over the controls in a flurry of quick motions. Ah... There it was again, loud and clear. The trail had switched back one hundred and forty degrees. "I lost the ion trail briefly there Captain." Seth informed Nack upon noticing the Ferengi's inquisitive expression directed towards him. "Sir, I recommend we come to heading one three nine mark five four. We have already overshot the new trail by half a parsec."
<tag>
Seth laughed at himself for saying 'recommend', it wasn't like they didn't want to follow this warp trail. In any case, it looked like this thief or whoever it happened to be, knew that they may be followed.

|Sickbay
After the counselor went in to see about Captain Nack to offer counseling if he would accept it, Lucy pulled up his complete medical record. In a nutshell, he was born on Fereginar, raised by human adoptive parents after the death of his biological parents. The heart attacks were real whether Nack wanted to admit it or not. He’d taken an interest in medicine, pursued that as a career then managed to work his way into Starfleet’s trust. That had led to the captaincy of the Nevada.
Finally looking up from her computer and taking in the status of sickbay, Dr. Grey realized that the captain had been released from sickbay most likely by the counselor. Time to search out the counselor.
Hoping to find her on the bridge, Lucy headed for the turbo lift.
|Bridge
Lucy stood at the back of the bridge. She simply stopped and watched what was happening. Everything was as it should be, everything and everyone in their place. The captain was sitting in his elevated command chair, the counselor’s chair complete with counselor, the XO sitting calmly where he should be. Helacaan was just settling himself behind the OPS console.
Something was going on. There was an undercurrent of activity almost palpable.
Seth Helacaan intrigued her. His attitude was a bit different from other Starfleet officer’s she’d encountered over the course of her service to the UFoP. He wasn’t as intense or as interested in what was going on around him. Or was she mistaken? There might be a perfectly good explanation for the manner he projected. A lunch or drinks were in order [if he would agree] to get to know each other better. They would be serving together for a long time, she hoped.

"Sir, we are picking up the beacon again." Commander Kast reported from the secondary operations console at the back of the bridge.
"Ah ha!" Nack said, and lowered his volume when he realized his excitement got the better of him. He hissed out in a whisper, "I knew it." snapping his fingers.
"Commander Trek," he called to his first officer. "It seems we are hot on the trail. We just picked up our beacon that we hid in the latinum." He badly wanted to tell Doctor Grey 'good job', but she wasn't in the room to do so.
He stood in compunction over whether or not Commander Waterson was really an issue anymore, considering they were hot on trail of the heart salesman, who, no doubt, was the thief. Waterson, by now, was light-years away. The thoughts were short lasted as he told Lieutenant Helacaan to keep him apprised of the ion AND beacon trail, nodded at Commander Trek as he passed him, and made his way off the bridge.
On his way down to sickbay to congratulate the Doctor in her successful bartering, he tapped his com-badge, forgetting completely that they were practically on top of the people they were eventually going to have to capture.
=/\= Commander Park, =/\= He didn't wait for a response before continuing. =/\= I need you to prepare for a fight. When we reach our escaping ship, we are going to have to demobilize them. =/\= Nack doubted that they were going to be able to take them down without some sort of fight. From what he knew, and from what Commander Waterson had told him, they were professionals. They would not tolerate being captured.
Before he could reach sickbay, he ran into Doctor Rylka. Nack tried to backtrack, hopefully she wouldn't see him, but she did, and any awkward movements by Nack would be perceived as trying to get away. He decided to relent, there wasn't much he could do now.
"I hear you wanted to see me, Doctor," he said to Rylka. He knew why, since Dan Trek was railing on him earlier. It was due to the stress Commander Trek felt he was experiencing. Nack was still in denial, and he was pretty sure... well, almost sure... that Commander Waterson was still involved in his second collapse. It wasn't due to stress.
"If we can make it quick - I have some things to attend to." He walked with Rylka as she laid out carefully worded questions to determine his mental state.
<tag Rylka>

Two possible leads. This was very good. Most legal systems, and certain religions for that matter, held that two or more witnesses were much stronger than just one, and sometimes even necessary.
Were the two connected, however? That would be clincher, if they were.
"Helacaan, Park," Dan said from his chair. "Conduct a long-range scan of both where the beacon is, and a projection of the most up-to-date information on the ion trail's course. I want to know the likelihood of the two coinciding. I have suspicions that the two will have something to do with each other. I leave it to you to confirm or refute that suspicion."

Commander Trek was right, there could be no doubt. Seth interpolated the course of the ship they were pursuing with the beacon's location one more time. They were definitely heading that way. Despite all the reversals of course the thief's ship was executing, in its perpetual zigzag across the vacuum, the overall pattern indicated that it was heading for the beacon.
He informed the first officer of his findings. Barring any last minute change in the thief's course, Seth was correct. He finished telling Trek his news and excused himself from the bridge, telling the first officer he needed to keep in contact with Norel, as per Captain Nack's request.
Seth initially decided on his quarters as the place to open a subspace channel back to Yavin III. He turned the corridor and walked by his quarters, it was not appropriate that he should sit in his quarters while on duty. So he walked on passively, and then found himself shaking his head. He was sure that he was doing the right thing, not entering his quarters on his shift, but it didn't make him feel any different. The feelings he was experiencing were the same familiar ones; again he was rigidly adhering to regulation, because... because he didn't know how not to, and did not want to diverge from this firmly rooted ideal.
Convincing himself that he wasn't a proper Starfleet officer and did not belong in the fleet was what was partly responsible he knew. He didn't want to relax, he couldn't. Not wanting to betray his family and the memory of 'good times' at home was the problem he seemed to be eternally addressing. Good times? There! he thought, That's another contradiction in itself.
So he walked on past his quarters, back to the Operations room where he had received the communicae about the trail from Norel.
"Manager." Seth felt stricken by self doubt and his annoyance towards Starfleet, as he sat blank faced in front of the screen, addressing Norel. The Romulan looked somewhat surprised to see him, he thought. She was also tentative with her greeting. Seth nodded curtly, "I have been asked to contact you, have you any more information that we..." he stopped and went on after a moment, "Have you any more information the Nevada, can use?"
Norel seemed to squirm slightly, and from behind her stoic Romulan expression, she appeared slightly bemused. Seth encouraged her, with little gentleness, and she elaborated.
