Ensign Jim MacGregor had been in the various spaces of the medical deck getting to know each member of his staff, both in the military section on the starboard side, and the civilian labs and offices on the port side, which mirrored the military section, but were for non military personel. Other starships he'd seen did not have this feature, but on a Galaxy class ship it made sense. If your five year old scraped her knee in the holodeck, or cut herself at arts and crafts class, would you want to bring her into the same sickbay as the security team being treated for disrupter burns?
After touring the medical deck one last time in the saucer section, as well as secondary sickbay in the drive section, he stowed his instruments for the day and went to ten foreward for a cup of coffee, to shift his routine from duty to leisure. Hopefully there he would meet others in the crew outside his medical staff, and the few civilian doctors and lab techs who answered to him on the medical deck.
Since coming aboard, with the exception of the captain and first officer, (OOC: a meeting we'll call "assumed" before leaving belicose station, since we're in a mission right now.) he had met none of the other department heads. The doors swished open, and he walked inside.
Coffee was a simple thing, so rather than distract the barkeep, he got it from the replicator, and sat down. Carried with him was a library PADD, which had a few classic works uploaded to it. Currently he had one of Johnathan Swifts novels selected, about an eighteenth century doctor, and his bizzare journey to lands with equally bizarre people.

"It's possible it's just a system hiccup .. It happens." Marko said, shrugging. Marko was reviewing the system logs to check if anyone had accessed the ships sensors but nothing!
"And FIX THAT SYSTEM." Kimmel said, storming from the Bridge to the ready room ...
Marko paused for a moment tapping at his Operations console as Kimmel stormed off the Bridge. Kimmel was clearly a man under pressure and he was taking it out on the crew, Marko didn’t know what was driving Kimmel but it seemed almost like someone or something was pushing the Admiral to his limits. It certainly wasn’t helping the Admiral build any bridges with the crew.
Marko was reviewing the hourly sensor calibration as he stumbled upon something, for some reason the sensors had been calibrated to ignore the Wolf’s warp signature. Marko thumped the console in front of him, it was so simple but genius. Marko would not have thought to check the calibration had he not remembered that a full systems check had occurred.
Smiling, Marko made some adjustments. Then suddenly before informing the Navigations Officer, Marko stopped what he was doing. One command and the sensors would be recalibrated… Marko thought as he tapped him comm badge.
=^= Ramius to McLean. =^=
There was a pause for a moment before McLean replied, Marko stepped off the Bridge and onto the turbolift and awaited for the doors to close before responding.
=^= Commander, you wouldn’t have happened to make an amendment or two to the recent systems check by any chance? =^=
(Tag McLean)
Marko interrupted McLean, =^= No matter Scott, If it was you or not is of little consequence. However whatever is happening I won’t reactivate the sensor lock on the Wolf’s warp signature for another hour. I’m also coming to Ten Forward. Ramius out! =^=
(Tag McLean/Torek)
Marko stepped off the turbo lift heading for Ten Forward.

McLean sat with Carl back at their table in Ten Forward, both officers with large child like smiles on their faces. They were acting as if they had just pulled the biggest prank on the school bully when in fact they had just tampered with vital ship systems and put not only the ship but the entire crew in possible danger.
It really didn’t matter to the Chief Engineer, he knew the crew well and knew once they figured out what was going on they would slow back down to a crawl if not an all stop situation.
“Cheers.” McLean said to Carl as the Raven suddenly dropped from warp. Carl had raised his glass along side McLean’s and they clanged each other’s glass before taking a sip. This moment of joy was soon interrupted by a COM signal coming through.
“Commander, you wouldn’t have happened to make an amendment or two to the recent systems check by any chance?”
“That’s a negative Commander,” McLean started.
Marko interrupted McLean, “No matter Scott, if it was you or not it is of little consequence. However whatever is happening I won’t reactivate the sensor lock on the Wolf’s warp signature for another hour. I’m also coming to Ten Forward. Ramius out!”
McLean looked toward the door as the COM channel closed. He had a slight grin on his face as he was sure the only evidence they had was circumstantial at best. The most that the OPS officer could do was report it his theory back to the Admiral and they could be detained but for only a given amount of time.
“Looks like we’re going to have company,” McLean said taking a sip of his beer, “You think I should order a round for Ramius?”

"...... Thats a negative Commander." Scott started to say, but he was interrupted by Ramius.
"No matter Scott, if it was you or not. It is of little consequence. However, whatever is happening I won’t reactivate the sensor lock on the Wolf’s warp signature for another hour. I’m also coming to Ten Forward ... Ramius out !"
Carl shrugged, a grin forming ..
"He's not Chief of Operations for nothing you know."
"Well we knew the tamper would be found." Scott said, "But he won't find the log amendment that we have been sat here for almost an hour... He simply hasn't got the skill, or the access ..... But either way, it looks like we’re going to have company. You think I should order a round for Ramius ?" he finished, waving a steward over.
"What the hell .. What they going to do, clamp us in irons for trying to buy an Officer a drink ?" Carl said, thoroughly enjoying their secret tampering.
At that moment, Ramius entered Ten Forward. He looked round the room, the subdued lighting not helping him locate Torek and McLean instantly. But once he saw them, he walked over ...
"I assume this ......" he began, pointing at the windows and the obvious fact that the Raven was no longer at warp, "...... is all your doing ?"
"Have a seat Marko." Carl said, hoping not to let the conversation spill over to the others in the room, but Ramius stood his ground, "If you prefer, I'll make it an order !"
Marko gave it almost thirty seconds before pulling out a chair and sitting down, but he wasn't about to be bullied ..
"Let's get things straight." he began, looking directly at Torek, "You ... Are no longer the Raven's Executive Officer. While I, as CHIEF of Operations, out-rank Commander McLean. Which pretty much makes me ranking Officer at this table ......"
"Hold that thought Mister Ramius !" Carl said, about to loose his temper, but seeing the look of caution on Scott's face, continued in a lighter tone, "You sided with Admiral Kimmel, and I'm not sure exactly 'what' sensor-locks you are talking about. But don't be under any illusion, that you are doing the 'right' thing .... !"
The steward arrived then, so Carl chose to order the drinks ..
"One of these." he said, holding up his almost empty glass, then pointing at Scott's drink, "One of them too .. And whatever MISTER Ramius wants." he finished, wondering idly if the Operations Officer would 'run' or be willing to talk ..........

I spent the better part of the hour looking out of the window at the emptiness of space while at the same time ease dropping on my peers. They held such unimportant conversations such as duty schedules, holosuit time slots, gambling, and the over obnoxious chatter about relationships. Some time ago I had noticed our former first officer and chief engineer walk out of Ten Forward together but what was odd was that they had returned not to long after that. In my experience when people leave they tend not to come back.
I wonder if I should sneak in for a closer look. What I thought was interesting was that they actually were able to sit back at their old table, as if it was their table at the corner pub they frequent everyday after work. Their conversation was candid from my distance, and even to a point of being enjoyable. It didn’t seem like they were talking about business until the chief engineer got a call from somebody I’ve never met before. I think I’m going to move closer

Jim finished his coffe and bookmarked the PADD at the point of the story in whiich Gulliver gets tied down by his hair in lilliput. He walked toward the reclaimer surveying the room. The higher command staff were involved in a conversation about whatever it is officers converse about,a nd he chose not to interrupt. The only one in ten foreward not busy talking to someone was a Ltjg, but she was intent on listening to the command staff, so he decided to wait till later to get to know her too, so as he passed her he settled for giving her a polite smile and nod (OOC: That would be you, Lt Anderson)
Jim placed his coffee cup in the reclaimer, and passed out of Ten Foreward and headed off to his quarters to study personel medical records befire turning in for the 'night' until his next duty shift.

"One of these." he said, holding up his almost empty glass, then pointing at Scott's drink, "One of them too .. And whatever MISTER Ramius wants." he finished, wondering idly if the Operations Officer would 'run' or be willing to talk.
"Take a seat Marko." Carl said, as the Operations Officer stood in complete silence.
The steward returned with a tray. As he began placing them on the table the stars changed ... Streaking into long white lines rather than the normal pin-points of light ...
The Raven had gone to warp !
"We're going after the Wolf." Ramius said, picking up his drink but not moving it toward his lips, "We do know that 'someone' has been tampering, and Admiral Kimmel WILL find out who it was."
Carl shrugged, almost appearing as if he was willing to accept the inevitable. He also hadn't failed to notice the young woman seemingly interested in their conversation. 'So let her listen' he thought.
"Yes ... You could do with finding the person who slowed us down. Allowing Mc7 to reach Earth. It could be 'interesting' to know who is on his side ..." Carl finished, aiming the comment at Ramius, but continuing to speak before he, or the engineer could get a word in, "Commander McLean .... Has someone been messing with our systems ?"
Scott feigned ignorance, shrugging ...
"How would I know ... I'm off duty."
"Computer ......" Carl said, looking straight at Ramius, "What is our current heading ?"
"Current heading is one four five mark zero .. Direct heading for sector zero zero one .. Earth."
"Time to arrival at Earth ?"
"Eleven hours fourteen minutes."
"Time to arrival of the USS Wolf ?"
"Extrapolating from the USS Wolf's last location and velocity .. Seven hours thirty five minutes." the computer stated.
"Looks like we're not going to catch the Wolf then .." Scott said casually, and both Officers grinned, raising their glasses toward Marko ..
"Cheers." Both Carl and Scott said in unison ..........

As Admiral Kimmel:
Admiral Willard entered the Bridge, he moved to sit in the Executive Officers' seat, next to Kimmel.
"How long are we going to have to sit here." he said quietly fuming, "Mc7 is getting further and further ahead of us !"
"Calm down Robert." Kimmel said, glancing round the Bridge, "We should be underway shortly. Besides, what can Mc7 do if he reaches Earth before us. He's hardly likely to get in to set the President is he ...."
"Isn't he ... I beg to differ !" Willard hissed.
Before Kimmel could reply, the Comm chirped.
=^= Engineering to Bridge =^=
=^= Bridge .. I hope you have good news Engineering =^=
=^= We do Sir .. The diagnostic is complete and we have warp capability again =^=
=^= Thank you Engineering .. We'll be requiring every bit of it .. Out =^= Kimmel said, then spoke to Willard.
"See Robert. No need to panic. Go into the ready room and contact our people. Inform them that Mc7 is heading their way and we're chasing him down ..." Willard nodded and got up, "Use a secure channel Robert." Kimmel added with a smile.
"Do I look a fool ?" Willard said, almost glaring at Kimmel, then turning away to enter the ready room ..
"Navigation .. Plot a heading for Earth, maximum warp."
"Plotted Admiral." the duty Navigation Officer said.
"What's our ETA Lieutenant ?"
"Eleven hours fourteen minutes Sir ... But the USS Wolf will reach Earth in seven and half hours."
"Then we'd better get after them." Kimmel said, a smile of determination on his face.
"Engage !" ..........

::Jim walked to the edge of the volcano. There, halfway down the slope was the herb he'd been looking for. He began to climb down, when a loose rock that had looked sturdy before he stepped on it, broke loose, and sent him plummeting downward. With a yell, he looked down at the fast approaching bottom. Just before he hit...::
...He awoke abruptly, and sat up. Noting the time, he saw he had yet another hour before he needed to get up from bed. He got up anyhow. After showering and grooming in the refresher, he sat at his personal comm unit to his usual breakfast of Celery sticks with talafruit sauce, and tomato juice. He then began to check his messages. mostly adds to travel destinations... one from Leanne... his old girlfriend back on Earth he had broken up with before leaving for the academy. just smalltalk mostly. wanting to know where he was, what he was doing, if he had met anyone again yet. he'd save that one until he knew when he'd be back on earth again. He shut down his comm station, and deposited the empty breakfast containers in the reclaimer. Then with a final tug at the bottom of his tunic, he left his quarters for the bridge.

After Kirk and Mc7 had finished their conversation the Admiral left the crew lounger and made his way back to the quarters that Captain Worthing had provided for him for his short stay on the USS Wolf. They were small and cramped, with two bunk beds set into the wall on the right and a small table on the wall to the left. The size of the quarters didn't bother Mc7, having spent time held prisoner on a number of occasions, each time in accommodation much worse than what he was currently experiencing. He debated whether to do some reading or try to get some rest before arriving at Earth in a little over seven hours. Despite thinking he wouldn't be able to sleep, he lay down on the bed. Within seconds of closing his eyes, he was sound asleep.
Worthing to Mc7_of_9,
Mc7 opened his eyes groggily, shaking his head from side to side in an effort to wake himself up quickly.
We'll be entering orbit over Earth in a little over twenty minutes. I thought you may want to join us on the Bridge for when we do.
Thank you Captain, I'll be on the Bridge in ten minutes.
Standing up too quickly, Mc7 had a rush of blood to his head making him momentarily dizzy. Taking a few seconds to steady himself, he lifted the washing bag he had replicated the night before and left his quarters making his way to the communal shower facilities along the corridor. Before stepping into the shower, Mc7 contacted Jonathan and asked him to join him on the Bridge in ten minutes.
Eight minutes later the Admiral stepped off the turbolift onto the Bridge to see that Commander Kirk was already there. Nodding to Worthing and Kirk, Mc7 looked to the view screen and seen the familiar blue and green marble that was the Earth spinning slowly below.
Looking to the officer manning the Operations console and asked him to open a channel to Fleet Admiral Shanthi, the Chief of Operations at Starfleet Headquarters in San Francisco. After a moment the young officer turned and told the three officers standing in the centre of the Bridge that he was unable to reach the Shanthi.
Her staff inform me that she is in briefings and meetings all day, but would be able to meet with you tomorrow afternoon if that is suitable,
the Ensign continued.
Why do i get the feeling that we are being purposefully kept from talking to Shanthi. We'll, if they wont let us talk to her, there's only one other place we can go. Jonathan, you're with me.
The two officers left the Bridge and made their way down to small transporter room which would send them to their destination. Arriving, Mc7 gave the operator their destination,
Palais de la Concorde, Paris. The Office of the President of the United Federation of Planets.

The turbolift doors swished open and Jim stepped out onto the bridge. Since he wan not here for a housecall, He invented a reason to be here by inventorying the emergency medkit lockers stowed in various locations throughout the bridge. although his real reason for being here was to interact with his shipmates and get to know them, he was careful to stay out of the way of their duties. Once finished, he stood beside the duty tactical officer behind the command chairs.

As Admiral Kimmel:
"Admiral .... Long-range sensors have the USS Wolf in parking orbit round Earth." Ensign Baltimore said.
"How far behind them are we ?"
"Three hours forty two minutes to orbit."
Kimmel didn't fail to notice Baltimore's lack of respect, and noticed Ramius walk over to have a word with the Tactical Officer. Kimmel was watching an Ensign curiously, he seemed to be moving about the Bridge, checking med-kits.
"Ensign .. What are you doing ?" Kimmel asked, smiling at the surprised Officer.
"Sir .. Sorry Admiral. I'm the Medical Officer. Just checking the ahh ......" James began, but Kimmel interrupted him.
"And what do you think of the current 'situation' ... Doctor ?"
"I don't have an opinion Admiral. I just need to know if I'm going to be busy in the next few hours."
Kimmel watched the man closely for a moment, then told him to carry on .. Tapping his Comms badge, he spoke.
=^= Kimmel to Commander Torek .. Please come to the Bridge =^=
He closed the Comm before the Exec' could reply, after all, it was unlikely that he was going to be disobeyed ....
A long five minutes later Torek entered the Bridge and walked round to the Command area.
"Take a seat Commander." Kimmel said, so Carl did as he was told, "You're Admiral Mc7 is only hours away from the end of his career. I thought you might want to be on the Bridge to see us arrive at Earth.
Carl simply watched the view-screen as the blue-white jewel grew larger by the second.
"No comment Commander ?" Kimmel said, an almost distorted grin forming on his face, "No matter .... No matter." .......... [/blockquote] We'll be running a portion of the mission on Earth, so anyone (on either side) feeling like a trip to the surface, feel free ..

JIm watched Earth fill the viewscreen as the Raven entered orbit.
"If you'll excuse me, commander, " he said before making his way to the turbolift.
He made his way to his quarters and began to throw a few things into a carryall. He then posted a request through his terminal for shore leave, tying it into his commbadge to signal him when he received a reply.

Jim selected some comfortable civilian attire, and lay it on his bed to change into once he received approval for his shore leave request. He glanced at his comm station. still pending...
the comm station piped in. It was one of his staff. =/\= Doctor MacGregor, please report to main sickbay...=/\=
He replied. =/\= On my way, Petty Officer Perren (npc).=/\=
Jim picked up his special data chip containing his modified expanded zimmerman program, then he left his quarters and made his way to sickbay. Waiting for him was a patient laying on the biobed, and Petty Officer First Class Gail Perren, monitoring his lifesigns. It was the Runabout pilot who had brought him from Starbase Conquerer to the Raven when he had graduated. Lt. H'razak had been sedated.
"He collapsed on the runabout not long after you reported aboard. We've been unable to isolate the cause. Up until a short time ago, he'd been concious, but then came the moodswings."
Jim scanned the patient. "You won't find it in the database yet. It's not an ailment the Klingons are sharing with just anyone. It's a carryover from their genetic manipulations from two hundred years ago. In a Klingon, like this patient, it attacks the brainstem, then the brain itself. it affects reaction time, emotional response, and speech. In it's final stage, it will put him into a bloodrage, which will make him attempt to destroy everything in sight. Then, the fever will break, and if one of his fellow warriors haven't killed him yet, he will recover." Gail raised her eybrows. Jim continued. "the problem comes when an exchange of fluid occurs, and the sickness passes to Humans, Betazoids, Vulcans, or Andorians. Those races have the ability to send the sickness airborn. in addition, the ailment in them causes vertigo, dizziness, then in its final stages, extreme rapid aging. You could die an old woman before suppertime."
"I already am an old woman."
"You're barely as old as my mother. I'm meaning venerable age. Anywhere from 95 -110."
Gail gasped. "That doesn't leave much time."
"Computer, initiate quarentine on this section of sickbay only."
He then set to work programming a couple of scanners to screen the rest of the crew and ship for the pathogen that caused Kazraks syndrom.

Jim finished programming the internal scanners to scan the ships interior for physical comtaminants, as well as airborn strains of Kazraks syndrom, using the datachip he had brought with him. He then downloaded pertinent data into a couple of tricorders, intended for two very special crewmen who would not endanger the ship by carrying it throughout the ship.
First, he activated the ships EMH program. A young man with sandy blond hair appeared. Obviously a more state of the art program than he was able to get his hands on.
"Please state the nature of the medical emergency..."
"We have a possible epidemic of Kazraks syndrom onboard."
"I am unfamiliar with Kazraks syndrom. Please elaborate."
Jim downloaded the information one last time, this time to the Ravens database. The EMH's expression changed with sudden understanding.
"What are your plans doctor?" It asked.
""Since you are a hologram, you are immune to contracting it, as well as immune to carrying it. You are to take one of these prepared tricorders and scan the crew, and send each patient you find to sickbay immediately. No matter what their rank. Just one could reduce this ship to a skeleton crew or worse."
"Understood, but working alone would be time consuming. The other shipboard Emergency holograms haven't the medical knowledge to be of much help."
"Then you will take my tutor program with you." He activated his own zimmerman series hologram, which had been augmented to be more than just a medical version. To him he handed the other tricorder, and to each he clipped a holoemitter to their sleeve. "Split up and don't miss anyone. Now get to work." The two left sickbay.
Jim got to work on the innoculations that would clear those already in sickbay.

As Admiral Kimmel:
"Take a seat Commander." Kimmel said, so Carl did as he was told, "You're Admiral Mc7 is only hours away from the end of his career. I thought you might want to be on the Bridge to see us arrive at Earth.
Carl simply watched the view-screen as the blue-white jewel grew larger by the second.
"No comment Commander ?" Kimmel said, an almost distorted grin forming on his face, "No matter .... No matter." ...
~~~~~~~~~~
"Sir. I have recieved authorization to enter orbit of Earth." the duty Navigation Officer announced.
"Where is the USS Wolf ?" the Admiral asked.
She's in orbit Admiral. Coming round from the night-side now."
"Tuck us in behind her. Ten thousand meters."
Admiral." the young woman began, turning in her seat, "I don't think Star fleet Command will allo ......"
"Why don't you let 'ME' worry about that Lieutenant." Kimmel almost whispered.
Fifteen minutes later, the Raven came into formation, slightly above, and ten thousand meters behind the Wolf. Kimmel stood, walking forward until he was less than a meter from the view-screen and glared at the Nova Class vessel ahead ...
As Carl Torek:Carl had sat in complete silence, apart from the briefest replies to comments made by the Admiral. Willard had not left the Captains' ready room since Kimmel 'sent' him in there. But now they were approaching orbit, he came onto the Bridge and stood in silence watching the Earth grow larger by the second. "You do realize that Admiral Mc is already speaking to Fleet Admiral Shanthi." Carl finally said, aiming the comment at Willard. "No ... No he isn't ..." Kimmel said, without turning from the screen, "In fact he's got almost no chance of a meeting with Shanthi, at least, not until I 'allow' him to." Torek continued to look at Admiral Willard. He knew now what he'd been doing for the last few hours. Slamming doors in Mc's face ... But Carl knew that the Admiral wouldn't give up easily. He was about to comment when Kimmel spoke .. "Open a channel to the Wolf." "Channel open." Ramius said, receiving a look of contempt from Torek. =^= Captain Worthing .. You are to concider yourself under arrest and relieved of Command of the USS Wolf .. Furthermore both you and your Executive Officer are to beam down to the surface for arrest proceedings =^= =^= Commander Torrance Sir .. Chief Security Officer .. I'm sorry .. But the Captain and Executive Officer are not on board the Wolf =^= That information threw Kimmel for a second Torek noticed, but he recoved quickly .. =^= If they return they are to be arrested immediately .. Understand me Commander ? =^= =^= Understood =^= "Close the Comm Mister Ramius." Kimmel said, looking from Willard to Carl .. He seemed to make up his mind about a course of action. One that surprised Torek. "We will be leaving the Raven now Mister Torek .. I could confine you, but I don't see the point. Security will locate Mc soon enough, then he'll vanish, so to speak, form both the Raven and i'm sorry to say, Star fleet." Willard walked to the center of the Bridge, to stand close to the Admiral. "Commander Ramius ....." Kimmel said, raising his eyebrows as if asking a question. Marko, obviously understanding the fact that he had a choice to make, and that now was the time, moved to stand with the two Flag Officers. Carl looked at the Operations Chief with a mixture of disgust and pity, but the man wouldn't even acknowledge his Exec's glare. "Computer ..." Kimmel said, grinning at Torek, "Initiate transporter protocl 'Kimmel-Alpha-Epsilon-Six-Three ... Transport !" Seconds later, all three disappeared from the Bridge of the Raven ... Carl wasted no time, he almost leapt from his seat. "Someone get on Tactical !" he almost yelled, "Find Admiral Mc7's Bio-signature. We need to find him before Kimmel's henchmen get to him !" .......... < tag : ALL >
Tied into the ships computer, MacGregors zimmerman hologram, and the ravens Gahline model EMH both knew instantly that someone had beamed off of the Raven. Since Macgregor had the scanning protocol set up, a quick check told them none were carriers.
The ships EMH spoke up. "As ranking hologram in this party, I think now is the time for us to split up."
"Ranking hologram? We have rank?"
"Granted, not Starfleet commissions, just medical protocol over true ranks in the event of the CMO's absence, but I am actually assigned to this ship, while you are just, in effect, a passenger."
Zimm gave an uncomfortable assent. "Agreed. Which route would you suggest?"
"I'll scan the primary hull, starting on the bridge and working my way down, you will start at the keel and work your way up through the secondary hull. and we'll meet in the middle."
"Agreed." With that said, the EMH boarded the nearest turbolift, and Zimm went to the starboard side of the ship to board it's counterpart.
::on the bridge::
The doors swished open, and the ships EMH stepped out, and began scanning each member of the bridge crew in rapid succession. He finally came to Commander Torek, who was obviously very busy at the moment, and kept moving about giving orders, and checking stations over the shoulder of the assigned crewman.
"If you don't mind, Sir, we have a situation in sickbay, and screening the entire crew requires the utmost expediency."
As the Raven established orbit she was contacted from the surface.
=^= USS Raven .. Please be aware .. You are required to remain in parking orbit .. Star fleet Security need to discuss issues that arose during you time away =^=
=^= Dock control .. Commander Carl Torek .. Executive Officer .. We wont be going anywhere for the present .. Raven out =^=
"If you don't mind Sir." the ship's EMH said, from behind Torek, "We have a situation in sickbay, and screening the entire crew requires the utmost expediency."
"Situation ?" Carl said, turning to the hologram, "Is this something that can wait Doctor. Because we need to be getting down to the surface to find Admiral Mc7."
"It is possible ...... That Kazraks Syndrome has broken out. doctor MacGregor seems to be showing early signs. The Bridge crew are at present healthy, but we need to check the rest of the crew out as soon as possible."
"Then I'd suggest you begin immediately." Carl said, "But check the Security Officers first. I may need them at some point."
"Aye Commander." the doctor answered, heading for the turbo-lift, already speaking to his staff. Torek watched as the Raven settled into her position in orbit. He could see Africa passing below, the terminator moving slowly across the continent ..
"Sir ! ..." Baltimore said suddenly, "I think I may have a partial fix on the Admirals' location."
"Where ?"
"Europe ...... Maybe France."
"He's gone to the President." Carl whispered.
"Sir ?" Baltimore said.
"Nothing ... Helm ..." Carl said, a determined look forming on his face, "Adjust our position. Place us in a Geo-stationary orbit above Paris France ... Make it a high orbit."
"I'll request clearance fro ......"
"No !" Torek interrupted quickly, "Don't request anything, just move the ship ... Now ... Don't worry. Non of my actions will reflect on anyone on the Bridge in any way. I can assure you of that." he finished, and waited for his, Mc's crew, to comply ... Seconds later, the planet below began to first slow her rotation, then come to a complete stop. Torek could see the United Kingdom and Europe clearly in the clear sky's below them ..
Torek turned to the Bridge crew ..
"I can't order you to do anything from here on in." he said, looking from face to face, "But a little help would be appreciated." ..........
The Wolf had been a quiet ship since the Admiral had come aboard. So much so that even the most trivial of gossip was passed from covered mouth to ear for this just in case moments when somebody might be trying to listen in. The tension aboard the Wolf was not from the Admiral or the sudden change in course the ship’s Captain had performed, but it was in the subtle and careful movements everybody in the senior staff seemed to be making when around the Admiral and the Captain. They knew her best and they smelled something fishy.
Kirk had not been aboard the Wolf long enough to notice anything out of the ordinary but he knew from his own experiences that something was going on and it was happening soon. He had no idea that it was this soon.
Earth appeared in the Wolf’s Main View Screen to a near teary-eyed bridge crew. For most they were finally home after long deployments out to Section 47, for Kirk it was a site he had not seen since his childhood, before the Borg. He felt two faced as he stood with the longing that was associated with coming home for the first time in years and the resentment for a mother who was not powerful enough to save her son from hell.
In front of Kirk Mc 7 and the Captain slipped off the bridge, heading to a destination only known in their heads. This was the moment that Kirk had been waiting for and he was going to act on it. He slowly followed the Admiral and the Captain, shadowing their every move until they finally arrived at their destination.
“Palais de la Concorde, Paris. The Office of the President of the United Federation of Planets.” Admiral Mc 7 ordered to the transporter chief.
“I am coming with you Admiral.” Kirk announced as he burst through the doors.
"I can't order you to do anything from here on in." he said, looking from face to face, "But a little help would be appreciated." ..........
McLean watched from the back of the bridge as the entire crew in near unison came to a silent but unanimous decision, “Looks like we are in business Commander.” McLean said from the back of the bridge.
Even though the crew implicitly trusted their First Officer it surprised McLean that not a single officer objected to these unorthodox orders. Then a name struck him and he knew when it came down to it, it would be a fight. Marko Ramius, the ships Chief Operations Officer. He was a dedicated man who above everything else served the Federation and would do anything to protect it. McLean would call that blind devotion to duty but given the circumstances he figured the Commander was at the present time, ill informed at the situation.
McLean walked from the back to join Carl up near the Captain’s chair. He stood for a second as the Earth filled the entire view screen. Looking at his home planet he felt the strangest feeling and for the first time it wasn’t the feeling of being home. He felt as if Earth was a battleground and they were the warriors preparing to do battle in the foreign, yet familiar lands.
“Are you ready to do this?” McLean asked Carl just loud enough for the First officer to hear him.
The two holograms met in the passageway leading to sickbay, and walked the rest of the way together.
Zimm spoke first, "Did you find anything?"
"negative. All aboard are clear, and those that beamed off were screened en route automatically." Replied the EMH.
"Beamed off? There is a landing party out without medical support? Where exactly are we?"
"I highly doubt Medical support will be necessary. We are in Sector 001, orbiting Earth. The First officer is planning to meet with the Admiral planetside. What did you find with your scans?"
"All clear, which leaves Lt. H'razak as an isolated incident."
In a low level quarentine case, you could get in but you couldn't get back out until the quarentine was lifted, save by authorization of the duty medical officer, so Zimm and EMH didn't bother to slow to id themselves. The doors to sickbay swished open, and the two holograms entered. Jim looked up from his patient as they approached.
"Report?" Jim asked mildly.
"All decks free of contagion, and all personel cleared." Replied the EMH. "Will that be all sir?"
"Yes it will. Well done." Jim replied.
"One more thing... "
"Yes?"
"The First officer is planning a meeting with the Admiral planetside."
"That's not unusual at Starfleet headquarters."
"There seemed to be a sense of urgency... As I left the bridge, he implied to the bridge officers that he would take volunteers only, and that I was to screen security personel first, as he might have need of them."
"Now that is unusual. Though he hasn't seen fit to let me know any of this information. I'm sure he would have, if we were at any other planet but Starfleet headquarters. No shortage of Doctors here. But knowing this I'd better make preparations here. There's bound to be a few bloody noses and scraped knees to tend to before we leave orbit again."
Suddely he no longer felt the desire to go to Earth and have his picture taken with a six foot rodent at Disneyland. His place was here. He cancelled his shoreleave request, which, of course was still pending. A department heads request for shore leave went strait to the commanding officer, rather than the personel department. With the Admiral off the ship, and the first officer a bit busy, that meant no one had seen the request.
a few minor details to tend to before touring the medical deck to ready for "kom-watt-may".
First, he released the now recovered Klingon runnabout pilot, then he deactivated both holograms, then he stood down the quarentine. One last thing... he stopped at the replicator and got himself a cup of coffee in a carry mug.
Carl too watched the jewel he called home, as it spun sedately below them. Slowing all the time until they seemed to 'hang' above Europe. He didn't want to pressure anyone into acting against their better judgment, so remained silent as they deliberated ..
"Looks like we are in business Commander." McLean said from the back of the bridge, then moved to Torek's side, "Are you ready to do this ?" he finished, in almost a whisper.
Carl turned and for the briefest moment, almost called it off. These people had careers, family, especially Scott, who had Vanessa to care for. But placing his hand on his friends' shoulder, replied ..
"Are any of us truly ready my friend ?" he said, then looked round the Bridge, "Commander Collins, as assistant Operations Officer, the ship is yours while we are on the surface ......"
"I'd like to accompa ......" Collins began.
"I need someone on the Raven I can trust. That's you." Carl said, moving toward the turbo-lift.
"What about Star fleet headquarters ?" Collins asked.
Scott held the lift door open while Carl pondered a reply ..
"If you're given an order ......" he began, then glanced at Scott before back at Collins, "...... I think it would be wise to obey it. Don't you." he finished, with almost a noticeable shrug, but never breaking the mans gaze, then the doors closed.
"Transporter room one." McLean said ..........
The group materialised the large circular courtyard outside the Palais. All around the courtyard were flagpoles, and on each one flew a different flag, each representing a different member nation of the United Federation of Planets. Despite the grave circumstances that brought them to the Palais, just being here reminded Mc7 exactly why he had joined Starfleet in the first place, and why he would fight to remain part of it. Crossing the courtyard the Admiral noticed that there wasn’t an increased security presence around the building. Given it was the seat of Government for the Federation, it had a high level of security as standard, but the security officers stationed around the perimeter of the building didn’t look as if they were actively looking for someone. That was a good sign for Mc7, as it meant there was a high likelihood that Admiral Kimmel hadn’t yet figured out where exactly on Earth the group was. He knew that wouldn’t last long, so they pressed on towards the entrance of the building, and towards their appointment with history.
Having passed through the security scanners, the Admiral walked into the lobby of the building flanked by the Captain and CEO of the USS Wolf. When they reached the desk Mc7 requested to speak to Esperanza Pinero, President Baco’s Chief of Staff. The Bolian receptionist looked somewhat puzzled. To say it was unusual for a group of Starfleet officers to walk in off the street and request a meeting with the Chief of Staff would be an understatement. The young woman looked up and glanced at the rank insignia on the taller of the three men, and noticed immediately that her wore the bars of a Vice Admiral. Any remaining doubts in her mind whether to contact the Chief of Staff disappeared there and then.
Chief of Staffs Office
Esperanza was going over the draft text of the Agriculture bill that was due to be debated by the Council next month when the call came through from reception that Admiral Mc7_of_9 was there and would like to speak to her. She knew him only by reputation, having met him once while she was serving as the First Officer onboard the Gorkon. The fact that he had shown up in the Palais unannounced certainly perked her interest. She didn’t have a lot of time to spare, but she decided to meet him and see what was so urgent from him. She told the receptionist to send him up, and she would meet him at the elevator.
Back in the lobby
The three officers were shown through the lobby and put on a turbolift a heavy silence filled the air. The journey only lasted for thirty seconds, but those seconds felt like an eternity for the three people riding in the lift. Eventually, the lift slowed up and came to a halt, and the doors parted to reveal the thirteenth floor of the Palais, which housed the Chief of Staff’s office. Standing just to the side of the door was the women herself, Ms Pinero. Shaking her hand, each of them introduced them self and they began the short walk to her office. After arriving, they all took a seat around a coffee table, and Esperanza invited Mc7 to start the conversation.
I’m not sure if you’ve heard anything about what’s happening on the Raven at the moment.
Esperanza shook her head, and said that she hadn’t heard anything about the Raven since the A was destroyed.
I’m not surprised that they kept it quiet. The long and short of it is that Admiral Kimmel arrived on the Raven and relieved me of command, on the basis that I presented a clear and present danger to the Federation
The last few words stuck in his throat as he spoke. Mc7 continued to tell the story of events leading up to their arrival at the Palais, and as soon as he was finished, Esperanza said only six words, but those seix words were the lifeline that Mc7 and Kirk were looking for.
We're going to see the President.
Daniel was angry at himself, every time he had attempted to speak to Admiral Kimmel or Commander Torek one or the other was present or they had rejected his approach. Feeling unwanted and unneeded Daniel had finally retreated back to his office in the hopes he could work out what to do next they were at least an hour from arriving in the Sol system and he had to make a decision, he could not maintain his stance of neutrality for much longer and he knew he would undoubtedly get kicked if he did not make a decision soon. Daniel sat behind his desk looking though reports that the over counsellors had made trying to bring him up to speed on the ship’s emotional status. Daniel was about to go to get himself a coffee from the replicator when the consol next to the replicator changed to show that he had a incoming communication, unsure who would be contacting him Daniel made sure he looked presentable and when he finally felt he was ready he moved to the consol and activated the comm.
=/\=Please confirm security code for secure transmission=/\= the familiar female voice that was the computer caught Daniel off guard, he was expecting something less annoying, “Commander Daniel Biers, security code Biers nine two three omega access secure channel” Daniel had that code but this was one of the first times he had actually used it, the screen changed to show a one line sentence =/\=Please input password=/\=. The moment Daniel saw this he knew full well who this was and he hoped to have made his choice without having someone else put their foot in. “Commander Daniel Biers, Security code Biers nine two three omega password Alexandria” Daniel watched as the screen as the one line was replaced with a written order, Daniel quickly skipped to the end to see who it was that had made the order, reading the name and status of the person made Daniel re-read that line before reading every line of the orders he had just received before he deleted the file.
Arriving on the bridge to watch Admiral Kimmel transport off the bridge to somewhere, Daniel walked onto the bridge and went around to take his seat in the hopes he might learn something. "Someone get on Tactical !" he almost yelled, "Find Admiral Mc7's Bio-signature. We need to find him before Kimmel's henchmen get to him !" .......... Daniel watched as officers started milling around quickly trying to find the lost admiral, as more people entered and left the bridge Daniel took little note of them other than to make sure they were nothing to do with the two Admirals situation. Daniel was about to get up to speak to Carl when Baltimore spoke "Sir ! ..." Baltimore said suddenly, "I think I may have a partial fix on the Admirals' location." "Where ?" "Europe ...... Maybe France." Daniel thought, ‘now why would Admiral Mc7 of 9 go to France?’ it was at that moment that it hit him ‘the federation council chambers’ Daniel looked at Carl and noted that Carl must have had a similar thought, as Carl ordered that the ship be placed into a orbit in line with Paris Daniel knew exactly what Carl was planning, he wanted to beam down and quickly join up with Mc before Kimmel could find him.
"I can't order you to do anything from here on in." he said, looking from face to face, "But a little help would be appreciated." Daniel thought for a few seconds before he stepped forward “you have my support Commander, should that be on earth or up here”
As Admiral Kimmel:
Kimmel, Willard, and Ramius materialized within the massive campus that comprised Star Fleet Headquarters ..
Marko looked over toward the bay, happy to be back on Earth.
"At your convenience Mister Ramius !" Kimmel said, almost glaring at the Ravens' Chief of Operations.
"Yes Sir ... Sorry Admiral." Ramius said, flushing slightly, before falling into step with the two Flag Officers as they approached the main building. Entering the mezzanine, the three approached the massive desk in silence. The Staff Sergeant watched them approach, and gave an almost casual salute.
"Can I help you Admiral ?" he asked.
"Admiral Mc7_of_9 arrived a short time ago. Could you tell me where he is ?"
The sergeant checked his screen, then double-checked the manifest of visitors ..
"He's not at Headquarters at the moment Admiral."
"He beamed directly to the compl ......" Kimmel began, then thought of something, "If he knew he wasn't going to get in to see Shanthi, Where would he go next !"
"Directly to the President ?" Marko said, not quite believing that even Mc could simply 'walk' into the Federation Presidents office.
Kimmel looked at Ramius as if he'd been slapped !
"YES ... Where are the nearest transpo ... Never mind." he said, almost running to the far side of the reception, and the transporters ..........
As Carl Torek:As they materialized, Carl could see the Eiffel Tower. They were close to the Presidents Offices .. Carl tapped his Comms badge. =^= Torek to Raven =^= =^= Raven =^= =^= Any problems Commander Collins ? =^= =^= None that I can't handle for the moment Sir .. I'm being 'quizzed' as to why we altered our assigned orbit .. But with all the Comms issues I'm having it's hard to get a coherent conversation going =^= Carl grinned, he knew he'd picked well leaving the Raven in Collins' hands. He'd mess the Dock-master round so much the man may end up letting the Raven park where she liked. =^= We're just going in to the President's Offices now .. Keep an eye on us and inform me if you get a lock on the Admiral .. Torek out =^= Closing the Comm, Carl took another look along the Champs Elysées .. "Ready ?" he said ..........
