All ideas on things like - Research Labs/Science Facilities - Recreational Facilities (Bars, shops, arboretums etc.) - Holodecks - Crew Quarters (And their contents) - Regular Ship Areas (Bridge, Main Engineering etc.) - Lavatories - Any other facilities All ideas welcome!

Like I said elsewhere, I think the primary sickbay should be a two-storey facility. There should also be smaller secondary sickbays dotted around the ship. Perhaps it should have a waiting room?
Maybe we should also give the FO a ready room near the bridge? Since the ship is so big, might be best to have his office near the CO's and the centre of the action. Just a thought though. If the ship's going to seperate, a secondary command facility is a must.

Oh - and the CScO should have a particle accelerator in his quarters! ;D
Sorry...

If the ship is going to split into two they could probably do with a secondary sickbay in the second part and the primary sick bay in the main part of the vessel where all the families are.
With there being alot more people on board they could with a larger sick to accommodate this and having two stories would make it bigger.

Depending on the size of the ship, it might be nice to have something similar to Deep Space Nine's promenade on the ship, but having a bunch of merchants on board might make it harder for the ship to carry out some missions. Of course, they would probably be the same kind of missions that the families might cause difficulties for, so maybe it could work, I'm not sure, it could add something to being able to simm on the ship though, as well as emphasizing that it's not primarily a battleship, if that's what we decide on.

Illito, that's a good and original idea. I'd thought about it myself. There is the slight problem of there being no money in the federation, but there are still other ways we could fill up with a promenade.
I think first officers have had offices on federation starships for a while?

FO's have Offices, but nothing like a Ready Room. It's often multiple decks down from the Bridge. Starbase XO's usually have an office like the CO does, however.

When interacting with alien cultures the federation has used money, since they sort of have to be able to pay for things if the other culture doesn't accept the whole 'we're over that now' explanation. From memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/MoneyAlso, Jadzia has played dabo. So the Federation has some way to interact financially with other people. And I know this shouldn't be a debate about money, but I think the federation does/should use it in some situations.

Yes but internally, the Federation does not used currency, as explained by Picard in First Contact. Therefore, I think we can assume that money would not be used on a Federation starship.

What if we had non-Federation merchants who were offered the opportunity to do business on a Federation starship, not only with the crew, but with planets they go to, and other people, I'm not sure though.

I don't think having merchants on board would work, but there could be a centralised area with: A messhall (with a real cook) Crew lounge with bar (Like Ten forward) Holodecks Hairdressing and beautician (As seen on TNG) Arboretums Sports complex (off some kind)

there doesnt have to be a lot of merchants, federation or not, quark runs his bar, we could have someone like that run the promenade like area.
as for something new, maybe we should create a completely new warp engine.

According to design plans, the Sovereign class had a mirror of the Ready Room for the XO. Presumably it was for the CO on duty who was not the captain as well. That way the other three shift CO's had a ready room without comprimising the Captain's privacy.

what about an officer's lounge? a off bridge relaxation lounge for bridge officers- same idea as the captian's ready rokm, just for everybody else. Put it in front of the bridge, and the confrence room to the back, with the ready room to one side and the XO's office to the other.
The bridge itself should have layers, lie the TOS movie one. much better then the sloped bridges we see in TNG- it centralizes things. Also, One chair in the middle, and nottwo off to the side of it, bu lower and a bit farther away from the center chair. All stations should face forward, like on voyager.
Main enginering: big. powerful. and manual overides for just about everything. Warp core in the center, three decks, main one on the center with a paltform extending to the core with the pool table and such.

Lounges probably shouldn't be on the top deck; it interferes with the normal bridge operations. Deck 2 maybe?

No, this would just be for the bridge officers- a ready room ro brige officers, basically. easy chairs looking at the stars, a little cordoned off area for private conversations.... But it serves the same function as a ready room, just for everyone else- a room just off the bridge to relax in. Remember that the days can be boring on a starship.

Ah, like that.
Also, what about a huge observation lounge on the top of the ship? Like a massive dome thing so the stars wheel overhead.

Combine them? Sort of like Ten Forward, but One Upward.

Best not then. Use the Observation Lounge as just a lounge area then without risking spilling drinks all over the upholstery.

I think the idea of a two-storey Sickbay is awesome! I wonder why it's never been thought of before, it would look really cool and would allow for a larger medical team/ science team. I also love the idea of an FO "ready room" as it were. It's a pain in the neck having to trudge all the way down to my office... lol... I like the concept of an Observation lounge on the top of the ship, however, if this is to be more of a military vessel (it may not be of course) then I don't think that kind of set up would work. On the sci-fi show "Andromeda" most vessels in the High Guard fleet have an Observation Deck, it does not necessarily take up an entire deck however it allows for relaxation, ambassadorial functions, meeting of the crew etc... If we had this sort of thing on Deck 2, then I think that would work.
