Kirk had agreed to head over to the Commodore’s ship but he had to steal a second away to double check on his engineering teams, which the Commodore of course allowed him the time. Once down in Main Engineering Andy called over Jack and his crew.
“How are things going?” Andy asked his close friend.
“Not good.” Jack replied with sweat dripping from his brow, his face covered in dirt and grease, “Even though we had the field up and it appeared to be working it didn’t stay up for long. Lord knows you wouldn’t have wanted me to call you and let you know the field dissipated.”
“What else?” Andy could tell by the look on his friends face that the situation has become dire.
“We’re losing her.” Is all Jack could say and Andy knew exactly what he was saying. If this was an old Earth ship it would be sinking but being a space faring ship she was losing all her vital systems.
“How long?” Kirk asked.
Jack leaned back taking a deep breath before answering, “Matter of hours, three at best.”
More than anything Kirk wanted to look at the data for himself, but he had learned a long time ago to trust those he puts in charge of certain departments. Jack, being a Communications officer first was a nice exception. They had trusted each other with their lives and he knew with Jack’s background he was probably right, especially with trained engineers working along side of him.
“Do what you can, but when the time comes abandon ship.”
“Where are you going?” Jack said with a surprising amount of authority in front of the other crewmembers.
Kirk eyes the two engineers standing along side Jack and then his gaze fixated on his friend. He wasn’t sure how to take the outburst, but he knew Jack was under a lot of pressure so he would excuse the laps in respect for command, “I’m heading over to the Commodore’s ship, looks like I need to try and negotiate us some living space. I’ll be back shortly.”
Back on the bridge Kirk explained the situation to the Commodore and expressed his desire to keep the Challenger powered up but with the loss of supplies and power it was a matter of time before the entire ship died. What he hoped to work out was just enough anti-matter to keep Challenger running with auxiliary lights and life support for a minimum repair crew to continue working. The rest he wanted to try and evacuate to Vesuvius.
He watched as the Commodore thought long and hard about the request the Captain was making and as he thought he started to feel the warm feelings of being at home. It was that delightful sensations when you know you were around a true friend, a friend who would do anything to help out a fellow traveler in need. He didn’t know what the Federation was, but it seemed to include humans and hopefully Earth. The best guess was that the Earth Coalition had somehow grown into an entire group of planets and systems to make up this Federation the Commodore spoke of.

*After Sonaks explanation of events Kirk departed sick bay to check on events in engineering. Larok was not entirely in agreement with his Co but as the humans say "She's the boss." So he began to review the results of his tricorder scans.*
Larok: Commodore I have been reviewing the scans of this ship and I estimate their ability to sustain warp power and life support will not last more than 3.15 hours. I recommend we get a couple of engineering teams over here to help with their repairs. We could dock one of the shuttles and use the warp engines to supply power to their systems until the repairs are complete. Their systems are very similar to the ones I trained on for my first deep space mission. It has been a long time but I was an engineer before becoming a Marine. The real trick will be to get them to accept our help with the restrictions we must put on them and not allow them to see too much of the future or we both may find ourselves in front of the temporal investigations board if or when we make it back to our own time.

"No," she answered her marine as she kept her eyes on the Human captain, "it is too dangerous. We will take the challenger crew aboard and confine them to one module if necessary. I trust the captain will tell his crew to keep away from essential equipment. Temporal Directive is in place even though we are out of time and space ourselves. We will contact the Raven, see if they are willing to harbour a few of your crew as well."
She tapped her combadge again. "Halthor, I shall not only be taking visitors with me, the entire crew needs to be evacuated. Take Challenger in tow once she is powered down. We shall see if Admiral MC7of9 can store her in his ship, after all he dwafs us."
The Vulcan looked around, silently counted heads, then remembering a few people on Challenger's bridge, added them to the number as well. "Including myself, Larok and Thorad, beam 7 additional people straight to main bridge." She thought for a few seconds. "Captain Kirk stands beside me, then there are 4 Humans on the bridge, one in engineering and a Vulcan in sickbay who is accompanied by a child."
Seconds later, the awayteam stood back on Vesuvius' main bridge, accompanied by 5 wide-eyed Humans clad in a blue coveral and a bewildered Vulcan in a labcoat and a frightened child clinging to him. "Welcome to the USS Vesuvius," Sonak spoke to them, "allow me to introduce my first officer, Commander first class Vander Halthor, my navigations officer Lieutenant Morgan Nikolayevich, my science officer, Commander Fist Class Fox. You have met my operations officer Lieutenant Thorad and my marine chief Major Larok."
She nodded to Larok. "Please disarm them, but make sure they are not harmed. After all, they are our guests." Now, she turned to the main viewscreen, where a clearer image of the Raven was visible. She had not seen the new ship yet, but had known her friend had been given a new one to replace the old Raven. The sheer size of it had even her awestruck. "Thorad, scan for other vessels and planets. We shall need places for refuge in case of need, as well as relief and food supplies."
Thorad nodded, then waved McCalister over as well as Fox. "You two are counterparts," the Andorian grinned, then pointed at his own console. "A bit sleeker than yours I imagine?" as he introduced the old-time science officer to the new era.
The Vulcan captain watched as her operations chief engaged Challenger's science officer, pleased to see he was making an effort to make at least one feel welcome. "Doctor, I assume you would wish to see sickbay?" she asked, "captain you too might benefit from a visit. We do have a policy that everyone new aboard needs a medical check-up. As current chief medical officer, I shall see to it myself."
She turned to face Morgan. "Lieutenant, please make Lieutenant Wolf comfortable and see to it that she is given guest quarters. Restrict her access to the replicator and the ship. Larok, please escort Commander Wallace to engineering. I imagine Byrne will want to make him comfortable."
There was, however one thing she needed to do before she would escort Kirk and Saryn, along with his daughter, to sickbay. "Vesuvius to Raven." A clear image of a part-Borg male appeared on the screen, flanked by a Human commander. "How did you end up here?" she asked softly, "were you sent after us, or thrown here by accident?"
She waited for her friend to reply. "Admiral, would you be able to take the Challenger into one of your cargoholds? Your ship is twice the size of mine, and we are experiencing technical difficulties of our own. I have taken the senior staff aboard but the rest of Captain Kirk's crew will need quartering as well. I imagine you would have the room for them as well?"
Once she had spoken with Admiral MC7of9 and his first officer, she turned back to Kirk. "Please, follow me."

Carl reached the Bridge and was shocked to see they had company ..
Two vessels, one clearly from the same era as the Raven herself, and the other from a much earlier one ..
=^= ...... mander McLean, Chief Engineer of the Raven, we’re all a little confused by our little ride, but other than that all our systems check out .. How is your ship holding up Commander ? =^=
"How are we doing Scott ?" Torek said, as he reached the Engineer, beating the Admiral by only seconds ..
"We're in contact with the other ship's Sir." Scott answered, moving to one side as the image changed to show a Commodore ..
=^= Raven .. How did you end up here .. Were you sent after us or thrown here by accident ? =^=
=^= We were on our way to your last co-ordinates when we were caught ourselves =^= Mc replied.
=^= Admiral .. Would you be able to take the Challenger into one of your cargo-holds .. Your ship is twice the size of mine .. We are experiencing technical difficulties of our own at present .. I have taken the senior staff aboard but the rest of Captain Kirk's crew will need quartering as well .. I imagine you would have the room ? =^=
Mc looked at Carl, who ran a quick check before replying ...
=^= We can easily accommodate the Challenger Commodore .. I'll have cargo=bay one cleared then we'll tractor the ship straight into the bay .. We'll sustain neutral 'G' and use the internal tractors to hold her in position .... We may need to use more effective methods if we need to maneuver more than normal =^=
=^= Thank you Raven .. I'll inform my crew right away =^= Kirk said.
"Scott, can you see to that ?" Mc said.
"Already on it Admiral." the Engineer replied, tapping figures into a PADD.
=^= Do you have a Councillor on board Admiral .. If so .. Would it be possible to avail of his services on the Vesuvius for a short time ? =^= Sonak asked.
=^= I'll have him beam over now Commodore .... =^=
"Mister Biers." Mc said.
"Yes Sir." Daniel said, making his way from the Bridge ..
=^= We will contact you and the Challenger when we are ready to take her on board .. I think we should meet to discuss our .. Situation =^=
=^= Agreed Admiral .. Once Captain Kirk's ship is secure we will meet here .. If you would be my guest on the Vesuvius =^=
Mc confirmed that he or Carl would beam to the Vesuvius later, then closed the Comm.
"You have the Bridge Commander." Mc said, entering his ready room. Once there, he brought up the star charts for this region of space .. He didn't even want to consider the time it would take the Vesuvius and Raven to return home .. Let alone travel forward in time to their own year ..........

McLean walked quickly, very quickly down the near empty corridors of the USS Raven. He knew with in a matter of hours he was going to have to try and cram the entire NX-03 Challenger into the cargo bays of the Raven. The first part of this vast undertaking was to roust all the cargo bay engineers and get them to Cargo Bay 1, second he had to do the numbers to see if the Challenger would physically fit into the cargo bays, and if it could it was going to be a tight fit.
Down in Cargo Bay 1 McLean briefed his fellow engineers, “What we are going to attempt is something I doubt anybody else has ever done before. We are going to try and stick a 230 year old vessel into our cargo bays.”
“Which ship?” Inquired one of the engineers.
“The old NX class starship, the NX-03 to be specific.” McLean answered the engineers question and quickly moved on, “Now everything in these four cargo bays needs to go. We have to remove the walls and put them somewhere. Pads need to be positioned correctly on the floor to support the ship so it won’t topple over when we bring gravity back on.” McLean looked out at the crowd of engineers and he saw doubt in their face for the first time, but he knew deep down inside that his engineers were up to the task, “Make me proud and get it done.”
The PADD he had made the operation look simple, and with a quick slide of the ship here and a movement there it fits right in. Two dimensional diagrams can be so very misleading, McLean thought as he put the PADD into the cargo pocket of his trousers.
Tearing down the cargo bay walls wasn’t a big problem at all, they were meant to be taken down to allow large objects to fit into the Raven. The problem was that the Challenger was so large that it was going to displace all the stored goods they had. He had to go see about finding a temporary home until the Challenger was space worthy again.

Carl had spent thirty minutes going over the specifications for the NX Class. He wasn't at all happy that the ship was in such a seemingly dire situation.
Scott was working hard, using anyone and everyone he could find, to make the required changes to the Raven. But it was going to be tight, almost impossible, in Torek's eyes, but Scott was one of the best. If he couldn't make it fit, then no-one could. Carl was worried about the Vesuvius and Raven's close proximity given the circumstances, so he decided to put some distance between them all ..
"Open a Comm to both the Challenger and the Vesuvius."
"Channel open." the duty Operations Officer said.
=^= This is Commander Torek on the Raven .. I think that given the current situation we should put some distance between us and the Challenger .. I suggest fifty thousand meters will keep us clear 'if' there are any problems ...... =^=
He watched as Halthor and Wallace nodded in agreement, both men knowing exactly what Torek meant ! ..
=^= Challenger .. I think you need to power down all but essential systems .. Keep life-support and artificial gravity .. Lighting and heating .. But shut down everything else .. Including the inertial dampers .. We can re-align you using the tractors once we're ready to take you in =^= Carl suggested.
=^= Agreed =^= Commander Wallace said, nodding to someone off-screen.
=^= I'll inform both Captains Commander =^= Halthor said, closing his end of the Comm.
"Helm ..." Carl said, watching the ships on screen, "Pull us back fifty thousand meters, then hold position."
"Aye Sir." came the reply, and the Raven backed away slowly, as did the Vesuvius.
The Challenger looked very small and alone as spatial gravitational forces began to roll her slowly to port. She would continue to roll until stopped, though no-one on board would notice due to the artificial gravity ..
Carl glanced at the ready room door, hoping the Admiral was working on their situation ..........

McLean rushed through the corridors of the Raven back up to the bridge. The information he wanted to discuss with Commander Torek wasn’t the kind you discuss over the COM. It was the kind that required that serious face-to-face conversation with a firm and final decision being made on the spot.
Carl has spotted McLean rushing in from the turbo lift, “Scott, how is everything going.”
“It’s going to be tight, real light,” McLean said as he walked down the ramp to stand next to the First Officer, “We have a problem.” McLean said in a much lower tone than his first comment.
“What’s the matter?” Torek replied, his eyes showing the curiosity that McLean was expecting.
“Challenger is going to displace all of our supplies from each of the cargo bays, and if we’re going to be taking on additional crew there’s no room on the Raven to relocate these needed supplies.”
“So we’ll put them on board the Challenger.” Torek suggested right away.
“I thought about that, but she’s not big enough, and we need to be able to work in there along side the Challenger’s engineers to fix her.”
“So where do you want to put them?” Torek asked as if he already knew the answer.
“I wanted to see if the Vesuvius would be able to take on our supplies for now. It might fill each of their cargo bays to the brim but they should be able to manage.”

"So where do you want to put them ?" Torek asked as if he already knew the answer.
"I wanted to see if the Vesuvius would be able to take on our supplies for now. It might fill each of their cargo bays to the brim but they should be able to manage."
Carl tapped his Comm badge ..
=^= Torek to Chief Stone =^=
=^= Stone .. Have you 'ANY' idea what that Engin ...... =^=
=^= Yes Ron .. I know what he's doing .. But it's necessary .. I want you to co-ordinate with the Vesuvius' Cargo Chief .. Get as much as possible into their holds =^=
=^= You do know that the Vesu ...... =^= Ron began, in his usual 'moan about every little thing' manner, but Carl interrupted him in mid flow ..
=^= Also .. I want a team outside .. Anything too big to transfer to the Vesuvius will need to be welded to the outer hull ...... Anything remotely non-essential I want to jettison .. No argument Ron .. I need this done =^=
Scott nodded. He hadn't thought of that option. The Raven would be hell to fly, if they needed to move quickly, but where better to store their larger equipment.
"We'll need to take people off the bulkhead removal to work outside." Scott pointed out. But Carl had thought about that too ..
"Then I'll go out." he said, "Just give me two people, then let me know when the first containers will be beamed out .... We are running out of options Scott." Carl said quietly, as he noticed the skeptical look on the Engineers' face.
"Agreed." Scott replied, then tapped his own Comm badge ..........

As the Communication was sent through another communication had just come through this time from the raven. Ensign Ritan spoke “Patching it through channel operations commander, it seems the raven has pretty stable communications and wishes to engage in talks.” as the Ensign spoke, he put the message through on the terminal [limegreen] “Commander Halthor, I’m Commander McLean, Chief Engineer of the Raven, we’re all a little confused by our little ride, but other than that all our systems check out.” McLean replied giving himself a second to catch his breath, “How is your ship holding up Commander?” [/limegreen]
Listening as the chief engineer of the raven spoke, Halthor took a moment to hear the voice of Mclean then hear that they were doing well. “Not so good Commander, we are separated at the moment with three sections of the ship separated, and we are trying to deal with our newest visitors, the ones from the Andromeda galaxy.” halthor commented as he spoke through the terminal, then replied again “It would be best if we can get some help on our ship, maybe some medical and power assistance on this end, we got power fluctuations all over, and were still dealing several decks being damaged and damage crews put to work in the necessary areas. So whatever you can recommend to Commander Torek would be great.” halthor closed the channel then sat in his chair hoping he would get the assistance needed from the raven. Seconds later a communication came in.
[limegreen]=^= This is Commander Torek on the Raven .. I think that given the current situation we should put some distance between us and the Challenger .. I suggest fifty thousand meters will keep us clear 'if' there are any problems ...... =^=
He watched as Halthor and Wallace nodded in agreement, both men knowing exactly what Torek meant ! ..

We shall see if Admiral MC7of9 can store her in his ship, after all he dwafs us." [/limegreen] Tapping the communication terminal, and speaking, the andorian replied, “Understood Commodore, I have had contact with Commander Mclean there Chief Engineer, seen if we could get some assistance as far as engineering and medical status may go, but first he would need to clear it through Commander Torek, good hearing from you by the way, and ill make the appropriate arrangements.” As he closed the channel, he commented to Lt Morgan to begin bringing Challenger in tow. “Morgan you know where to go from here, simply said, tow the challenger once she’s powered down.” As he noticed morgans affirming of the situation, moments later, sonak and the away team beamed aboard the Vesuvius.
[Limegreen] Welcome to the USS Vesuvius," Sonak spoke to them, "allow me to introduce my first officer, Commander first class Vander Halthor, my navigations officer Lieutenant Morgan Nikolayevich, my science officer, Commander Fist Class Fox. You have met my operations officer Lieutenant Thorad and my marine chief Major Larok." [/limegreen] “You are all welcome aboard, Its nice to meet new faces, Captain Kirk I do hope you will be returning to your vessel soon, but due to the circumstance, its imperative that your lives as well as others are protected and im sure you understand Commodore Sonak will be making the arrangement for you and your crew and I will be assisting.”

As Duke continued his scans of both the Vesuvius and the Raven he found the Captain and Commodore Sonak returning on the bridge. “Welcome back, I do hope the visit went well in sickbay, so I guess our new visitors have some things to tell us about the USS Raven.” but then later got a casted look of disposition for the time from captain kirk as both kirk and sonak had some things they needed to attend to away from ears. McCalister found this interesting and wanted to ask Thorad, so he inquired to the operations officer for the moment. “Mind letting me in on whats going on over there, or is that between the captain and the commodore.” as Duke spoke thorad motioned to him “well whats between the captain and the commodore is totally there own matter, I don’t know exactly whats going on, but I would guess its about the mission and the current situation.” the operations officer suggested to duke “Well a good suggestion hopefully they will finish soon so we can see about getting the challenger back in running condition, I don’t like that were floating debri almost in space.” duke replied.
As the two deliberated over scans and sensors, the commodore and the captain returned on the bridge of the challenger. [limegreen] The Vulcan looked around, silently counted heads, then remembering a few people on Challenger's bridge, added them to the number as well. "Including myself, Larok and Thorad, beam 7 additional people straight to main bridge." She thought for a few seconds. [/limegreen] As the challenger crew materialized on the bridge of the Vesuvius it was apparent the challenger was not going to make it and everyone was to make Vesuvius there new home. Duke then approached Thorad and got accustomed to the ship. [limegreen] Thorad nodded, then waved McCalister over as well as Fox. "You two are counterparts," the Andorian grinned, then pointed at his own console. "A bit sleeker than yours I imagine?" as he introduced the old-time science officer to the new era.

As current chief medical officer, I shall see to it myself." [/limegreen] “Nice ship you have here, Lt Thorad, mind taking me around a bit and showing me around, I do feel rather strange aboard a federation vessel, but it’s a new experience none the less.” as duke commented Thorad approached Duke and the two of them walked around the bridge looking at the different panels and operating systems.

*Larok called a security detachment to the bridge to take the confiscated weapons to the armory, and escort the Challengers crew to guest quarters. Setting down at science console two, Larok began to safe guard the info that the Challengers crew could access though the computers.*
Larok: Computer identify Larok Major alpha six Lima omega.
Comp: identified.
Larok: Restrict the Challengers crew members information access under the temporal prime directive.
*This would require the presence of someone with a level one security clearance to approve any information that happened after the Challengers departure for their last mission. Then Larok began to pre pair a report on any contributions made by the Challenger or its crew and their impact on the future. Finding what he thought he would might he down loaded the info to a pad and approached the Commodore. Handing her the pad.*
Larok: Commodore we have to repair the Challenger and get them back to where they belong, and we only have 2 weeks to do it in. If we delay we will cause a paradox which would result in the Federation never existing. Something else to take into consideration is the changes are already starting. When the Raven made contact the computers did their automatic update before temporal lock down occurred and we now have two var ring history's in the computer the one we know and another which is just a little bit different, for now but the longer the Challenger is away from their mission the more likely a paradox is.

Post by Andrew Kirk on Jul 6, 2008 18:48:27 GMT
Kirk stood in the middle of the Vesuvius’ bridge and marveled at what he saw. It was comfortable, not the colder built out of necessity style of bridge he was used to on the Challenger. Nice leather chairs at each station, buttonless consoles, and built into the walls were flat high-resolution monitors.
This was all interrupted when a team of security officers armed with what looked to be phase pistols strapped to their sides entered the bridge, and with military efficiency they quickly removed each of the phase pistol from the Challenger crew members.
“I’m going to want that back.” Kirk said to the security guard disarming him. The security guard took the weapon while avoiding eye contact as if Andy was apart of the condemned, and he didn’t want to be lumped in with them to share their fate.
The disarming had actually offended Kirk. When these three crewmembers beamed over he not one thought to try and disarm them. Knowing that if he had tried it would have more than likely brought about a fight about the Temporal Prime Directive from the Vulcan, and how they were not allowed to look upon the weapons of the future. Kirk felt the old hatred of Vulcan welling up inside of him as the security guard spoke to them and about them as if they were children who couldn’t possible under what they were talking about. Andy figured sooner of later the situation was going to come to a head and a fight was bound to ensue, he just hoped that the odds favored him when it did happen.
“Nice bridge you have here Commodore.” Kirk stated, trying his best to sound at peace with the situation. It was more than likely his frustration was shining through as more of less of an undertone in his voice.
From the back area of the bridge reports kept coming in about the status of the Challenger and her crew being evacuated. It made his sick to his stomach that here he was on another ships bridge when his own ship was slowly dying. Sure the crew was slowly being teleported off the ship, but had Andy felt as if he had committed a major crime by being on board the Vesuvius. The Captain was supposed to go down with the ship or at least be the last one off, and in this case he was one of the first ones off.
Just behind the group was the ships monitor. It was much larger and crisper than the one on board the Challenger, especially after their violent transplant here. What he saw amazed him; the Challenger was being pulled ever so slowly toward another ship, a ship that was massive in comparison to the Challenger. A strange blue light emitted from the back of this ship and it seemed to be covering the saucer of his old war horse, at any moment he expected some Vulcan security guard to come stand in front of him and bark something about not being able to see this for it was future technology. He laughed to himself and mumbled, “We don’t have a temporal primed directive in my time.”

Now it was Saryn's turn to warn his captain as he could see the young commanding officer was not pleased at the way he was being treated. Presently ignoring the Vulcan woman's invitation, he rose to his feet, signaled Numike to remain where she was, then walked over to his captain. "Captain, we are their guests. Where we chose not to disarm them, clearly they do not trust us as we did them."
Saryn could see his muted comment was still picked up by several of the Vesuvius' crewmembers and he was pleased to note that his comment had stung. "I suggest we take their captain up on her offer and follow her to sickbay. I would assume our crew is being cared for, though I would prefer to see Commander Wallace under medical supervision as he was injured."
That comment was clearly directed at Sonak, who chose to ignore the comment for now. The Vulcan doctor took note of the fact that she didn't look too happy at his comments, probably finding them laced with one emotion or the other but Saryn himself found them perfectly logical. "We will see your sickbay ma'am," he answered politely.
Sonak on her part hadn't missed the handsignals her medical counterpart had implored on the girl, but she had insufficient knowledge to interpret them. She assumed it was a way to keep the girl from wandering off for now.
His hand still on Kirk's arm, Saryn nudged the Human forward into what the future crew had called a turbolift. Numike followed the adults into the lift, not wanting to be left behind. Just as the Vulcan captain wanted to join them, her marine officer re-emerged with disturbing news. Listening closely, Saryn could hear the muted words that transpired between the two other Vulcans. "We are in their time," the woman argued, "it is us who are out of time. Paradox would suggest that if Challenger is returned to the exact point of departure, time would continue unchanged."
Saryn shook his head in dismay. Timetravel was unheard of, this just must be a trick of some sort. "Captain, we should try to overpower them. Cleary they are imploring deception upon us. They appear Vulcan, Human and Andorian, but their behaviour is contrary. I do not trust them, and I strongly urge you not to fall for their deception either. We must take this vessel when we get the chance. Play along with them for now."
He fell silent when the woman returned to them, and it was obvious to him that he too would not be able to continue the charade for long. Their sickbay was a wonder on its own, and he found himself marveling at the technology that was shown to him, albeit in a limited fashion. And, he noted, there were many medications he could use to subdue the crew, if necessary. "Fascinating," he commented in true Vulcan fashion as he started to walk around, picking up various objects for closer examination.

The aft of the Raven's saucer section looked as if it was unfinished now .. The was a gaping hole where the massive cargo, and shuttle bays once were. A force field holding in the life giving oxygen. The outer hull was seemingly littered with supplies and other equipment, that had been cleared, but couldn't fit in the Vesuvius.
=^= We're as ready as we're ever going to be Commander =^= Scott said, from inside the newly formed bay.
=^= OK Scott .. Stand by =^=
Torek turned to the duty Operations Officer ..
"Lock a tractor onto the Challenger. Slowly bring her back to a level plane."
Carl watched as the small ship began to slow her rotation, the blue of the tractor glowing in the star-light.
"She's stable Commander."
"OK .. Move us into position .. One thousand meters ahead of her, then lock a tractor on her saucer section."
The Raven moved slowly toward the Challenger, passing her to port, then coming round ahead, before coming to a complete stop. The tractor snapped into being and the NX vessel began to approach the Raven.
=^= Commander .. I've had to re-arrange the positioning of the Challenger in the bay .. We will get the saucer section and engineering inside .. But the nacelles will protrude through the force field .. I'd suggest setting up a secondary field to protect our people while they work on any outer hull problems =^=
=^= Doing it now Commander =^= Carl replied.
Torek and the Bridge crew watched as the small ship neared the Raven. It was almost impossible to think that it would actually 'fit' inside, but here it was happening before their eye's.
=^= Slow the approach .. One meter per second =^= Scott relayed from the bay. The Opps officer complied.
There was an audible crackle as the saucer section breached the duel force fields and internal tractors locked onto the ship, edging her further and further inside. Once above the blocks, positioned to take the most part of the Challengers' substantial weight, Scott ordered her lowered .. Challenger, like most space-borne vessels, wasn't designed to experience gravity, and the ship groaned and complained at the stresses she was now subjected to .. But within moments she was down .. Still creaking and groaning, but safe on the restraints that would be her home for a while.
Scott, and even Carl and the Bridge crew could hear the faint electrical discharges from the duel fields keeping air in, and more importantly, space out ...
Almost twenty meters of the Challengers' nacelles were still in open space, but that wasn't a problem. If need be, they could simply turn the ship around to work on them .. But the engines and warp drive came first .. Mainly because if that wasn't repaired, and quickly, there simply wouldn't 'BE' any ship to repair !
=^= She's in =^= McLean reported.
=^= Well done Scott .. OK .. Get our engineers in there as soon as possible .. I'll update the Admiral and Vesuvius, then come down myself =^=
"Open a Comm to Vesuvius." he ordered.
"Channel open Commander."
=^= We have the Challenger safely in the bay Commodore =^=
=^= So we see Commander .. My congratulations to your Engineer and crew .. I am certain we will be joining you shortly to assess the work needed =^=
=^= We'll begin with stabilizing the core and looking at getting full internal power first .. Raven out =^=
After updating the Admiral on their progress, Carl headed for the turbo-lift ... 'This I have to see for myself' he thought, amazed at the feat they had just pulled off ..........

*After giving his report to the Commodore Larok could see that her apparent reading of the mood and temperament of the Challengers command crew and his own were different. Larok took all steps he could with in his orders to safeguard the ship. Larok left the Bridge and went to his office. Along the way he informed the Gunnery Sergent to have all the squad leaders join the two of them in his office.*
Larok: You all know that we have brought the crew of the Challenger aboard. From what I could hear of the conversation of their Co and CMO they did not think too kindly of our Co's decision to disarm them. We will go to a intruder alert 3 condition. I want combat armed and armored Marines in all critical spaces. Coordinate with Security as we are operating under the Temporal Prime Directive; I want our troops invisible as a back up to security and a surprise for any attempts to take over the ship. I hope they will not try anything stupid, but if they do rember non-lethal force only. I do not want us to create any paradoxes here, we are the one out of our time. Dismissed.

Jonathan requested and was quickly given clearance to beam over to the USS Vesuvius from the USS Raven. He had his orders on a data PADD and he would soon be filling a new position as the Chief Operations Officer aboard the interesting ship. He had heard a lot about the Commanding officer, Commodore Sonak, and was sure she would be just as good of a commanding officer as her reputation implied.
Walking the halls of this new ship Jonathan could have swore he was on a military base; armed security guards and Marines patrolled the ship and guarded certain sensitive sections of the ship.
“What is going on?” Kirk asked the nearest Marine he could spot.
“That is on a need to know basis.” Replied the Marine.
“I am the Chief Operations Officer,” Kirk replied firmly, “I am on the need to know list.” He said as he put the data PADD in the Marine’s field of view so he could see the orders.
“Very well,” The Marine replied after looking at the orders, “Major Larok has us on a heightened state of alert due to the presence of possible hostile guests.”
“You mean the Challenger crew?” Kirk asked almost laughing.
“Yes sir.”
“Stand down sergeant.” Kirk ordered.
“I’m sorry sir I can’t do that. My orders come straight from Major Larok.”
“You have got to be joking me,” Kirk replied with a little more force, “These people are our ancestors. Do you really find them hostile?”
The Marine tried his best to keep a blank expression on his face but he too felt that these people were not really dangerous he was simply following orders.
“Where is Major Larok now?” Kirk asked.
“In his office sir.” The Marine replied.
“Thank you.”
Kirk walked briskly around the new ship and following the computer he entered the officer of Major Larok. The Vulcan Major was surprised to see the new Chief Operations Officer, especially in the quick stepped state he was in.
“Your men need to stand down.” Kirk said as more of an order than a request.
“Who do you think you are?”
“I am Commander Jonathan Kirk and I am the Chief Operations Officer aboard this ship and this tight security you have roaming the halls is not necessary.”
“You do not any idea on what’s going on here.”
“I do,” Kirk snapped back, “I just came from the Raven and over on their ship the mood is much more relaxed, more civilized. Over here it feels like I have walked onto a military base. Now I am not asking I am ordering you to have your men stand down.”
“You have no authority to order me around.”
“I do not? That is interesting as you are an O4 and I am an O5. I out rank you, but if you will not obey a direct order from a superior officer then I will just take this up with the Commodore.” Kirk replied before storming out of the Marine’s office. He asked for the location of the Commodore and he received it, she was in sickbay with some two of the Challenger’s crew.
Jonathan wasted no time getting down to sickbay to get this entire situation straightened out. As soon as the doors to sickbay opened he was speaking, “Commodore do you really feel all this extra security is really need?”
“Who are you?” Sonak asked.
“I am Commander Jonathan Kirk, your new Chief Operations Officer, and I have just come over from the Raven to what I find to a be a military posts with armed guards and geared up Marines at every corner.”
He knew this sort of direct confrontation was not normal procedure, but with the confidence that Admiral Mc 7 had instilled in him by rushing the President’s office back on Earth, the Commander felt anything was possible now given the right approach.

Her first instinct was to recoil upon seeing 'Borg', however Sonak remembered just in time that this person was indeed very Human, much like her admiral friend whom she had known since her academy days. "Indeed," she answered upon his identification, "may I see your transfer papers?"
She held out her hand to receive the PADD the commander held out to her and scanned them swiftly, because she still needed to be on guard against the Challenger crew. She wanted to make them feel comfortable and Kirk's statement about tight security rankled a little. "Security is in place for everyone's safety," she then explained, "we are in unknown territory, Challenger is badly damaged and my vessel is also damaged. We have shields, but not much though engineering finally fixed the docking clamps."
Sonak glanced at her new chief of operations. "Lieutenant Thorad will be pleased to brief you," she continued, "you may find him on the main bridge. Welcome aboard commander." That was a dismissal, if anything and she turned back to her guests. "That device is called a tricorder," she explained to Saryn, taking the device from him. "In your era, I believe this was called a PDA and looked quite different. This particular instrument has the medical upgrades." She opened the device and took a scan of him, then turned it around to show the stunned Vulcan.
"As you can see, we do have state of the art equipment, many of which I may not explain its function to you because of the beforementioned Temporal Directive. Anything you may learn and take back home with you, may change the timeline. And any minute change may have devastating results for my timeline, as Major Larok only just discovered."
Sonak motioned towards one of the biobeds. "If you would lay down please, then we can return the favour of medical scans. Doctor, I would not deny you the opportunity to use it. You may perform the scan on your captain, using my directions. I will expect you to send the rest of your senior staff past here for basic medical scans as well, just to be safe."

Sharon had gotten the communication and had joined the Captain in sickbay, Sharon noticed the resemblence between Saryn and the Commanding Officer of the other Vesuvius, the fact they were both vulcans did not bother her one bit.
They were soon transported over to the other ship and disarmed, Sharon was not happy about being disarmed nor did the captain, Sharon was in awe of the ship, it was new to her everything looked differently then on the challenger, she wondered if she could fit into this time line. The Captain had the Lieutenant take her to guest quarters, she entered and turned to him.
"I have one problem. my cat is in my quarters on the challenger, could he be brought here?" Sharon asked.

* As soon as Jonathan Kirk left Laork's office Colonel Traks broke out laughing.*
Traks: Someone needs to put a leash on that young man, and if I know your Co I'm sure she can handle him. I have reviewed your procedures and find them within and on the conservative end of those allowed by the Temporal prime directive. You might want to stress to your team what invisible back ups mean.
Laork: Thank you sir.
*Traks rose and left Larok's office and headed to the turbo lift, exiting the bridge and headed for the Commodores ready room. Pressing the door bell, Traks entered seeing that the room was occupied by several others besides the Commodore.*
Traks: I just stopped in to pass on greetings from my ex- boss that crazy Klingon as you like to refer to him. LOL I have been reviewing Larok's preparations and to let you know the same steps are in force on the Raven my squad have been working together longer than Laork's squad as they all worked with me for the past several years. With your permission I would like to have a couple of my squad leaders pair up and rotate between the two ships to help in their training. Also I would like to set up a meeting between you, Larok , your new Ops Officer and myself. I need to get back to the Raven to check on a few items.
*After being dismissed by the Commodore Traks headed for transporter room one and beamed back to the Raven.*

McLean whistled loudly as he stood before the Challenger as he halfway stuck out of the back of the Raven. He was wearing a full space suit with the helmet being held up against his body by his arm. Behind him was a team of his engineers ready to go clean up the damaged Challenger.
“Ready?” McLean called back to his guys.
“Ready.” They replied in near unison.
McLean fitted his helmet on and started the air flow, it took a few seconds for the suit to fully fill with air. Those short few moments were always nerve-racking for the engineer, as he had to hold his breath until he could feel the cool breeze come up and fill his mask. Turning to check he saw his entire crew was helmeted up and ready to go.
“Beam us in.” McLean ordered.
Small teams of three beamed to various locations of the ship, each with a specific task at hand. McLean and his engine specialists beamed directly into the old engine room, “Would you look at that.” McLean said looking at the archaic warp core.
“Commander,” McLean heard over the COMs, “We’ve got power packs hooked up to the main EPS relays. We should have the ship powered up and running on battery power in about five minutes.”
“Acknowledged,” McLean replied, “But keep your helmets on until I give the all clear.”
“Yes sir.”
“Good, lets get started then.”
In the few hours that McLean had been working on the ship he had managed to get the ships life support working at 100%, but the environmental controls were another story. He hadn’t seen technology like this at all, and his Academy courses covered a lot of material. What it boiled down to was that 200-year-old technology wasn’t a topic of interest for engineers wanting to work on the cutting edge of Federation warp designs.
“How is the power coming along?” McLean said as he used his forearm to wipe sweat off his forehead.
“We connected. The Challenger is now drawing all its power off of the Raven.”
“Good,” McLean said leaning up against a bulkhead. He looked at his tricorder and saw the ambient temperature readings reaching 95 degrees Fahrenheit. It was time to go, “Attention all crew, take a break and exit the Challenger. I’m going to go talk to Commander Torek. Computer, beam me to the bridge.”
Materializing on the bridge McLean knew he must have looked like a mess. His space suit had long since been discarded and now all he was wearing was a pair of pants that stuck to him due to the sheer amount of sweat on his legs, and a hastily made cut off duty shirt.
“Scott?” Torek questioned.
“Sorry sir,” McLean replied, “It’s pretty hot in there.”
“How’s it going?” Torek asked.
“Not good,” McLean said even though he didn’t want to, “We need some help.”
“More engineering crews?” Torek asked.
“Not ours, theirs.” McLean replied as he was finally starting to cool down due to the Raven’s more than adequate environmental control system, “Their systems are nothing like ours and my engineers are having trouble working with their technology.”
“Really.”
“Think of it this way. It’s like a technician who is used to working with integrated circuits and the most cutting edge of technology, and now that same guy has to try and repair a computer that uses vacuum tubes and eats up a lot of power. The Challenger is just way to old for any of us to know for sure what it is we are doing. Where is their Chief Engineer?”
“The report that I received says that he’s been badly hurt.” Torek said as he took out a PADD, “However…their Captain used to be the ships Chief Engineer before he was promoted.”
“Can we get him over here?”
“I’ll see what I can do.” Torek replied.

The order had been given and Jack was duty bound to make sure those orders were followed. He ordered the entire engineering staff to evacuate. The crew of the Challenger followed these orders to the tee, but Jack Logan was having a hard time following through with it.
"Sir, you need to report to the transporter pad," Lucy said when she noticed that Jack was heading towards crew quarters.
"I know Lucy, but I have some things that I must get from my quarters," Jack said before taking off towards his quarters. He knew that he wouldn't have much time. The Challenger was set to shut down in seven minutes and Jack didn't want to be left on board when that happened. Already knowing what he was going to get, Jack grabbed the sole picture he had in his room. Jack, Andy, Shawn and Wolfgang were sitting around on the bridge. Everything was so simple back then. No Romulan War, no secret agents, no burials to attend, and no haunting dreams. Yes it was indeed a simpler time back then.
"We'll be back for you old girl, I promise you," Jack said surprised that he was talking to the ship. He already knew that the Challenger had become his home, but he now understood that it was also the home of his family; Andy, Lucy, and even Saryn. He would protect that at all cost. As he approached the transport site, he realized that he was the last member of the crew to be left on the Challenger.
"Sir, do you have any weapons on your person?" a security guard from the Vesuvius asked as he approached thier location.
"Yes, I have my pistol," Jack said surprised at the question.
"I have to ask you to give it to me," the guard asked," weapons are not allowed."
"What if I refuse?" Jack asked defensively. He knew that he could take both men easily, but other than that everything would be a total unknown. He wouldn't be able to stay on the Challenger.
"Sir, give us your weapon please," the guard said," we'll put you in the brig if you refuse."
"Alright, here you go," Jack said as he gave them his pistol," I'm ready whenever you are."
"Three to transport," the guard said and for the first time since being commissioned for service the Challenger was completely devoid of life and empty.

Vesuvius Main Bridge, Minerva
"I have one problem. my cat is in my quarters on the challenger, could he be brought here?"
"Personal belongings will be transported to your temporary quarters aboard Vesuvius," Commander Mark Harper replied mildly, "that would include pets. I'm sure your cat will be in your quarters by the time you arrive."
Main sickbay, Minerva, deck 3 "I just stopped in to pass on greetings from my ex- boss that crazy Klingon as you like to refer to him. I need to get back to the Raven to check on a few items."
Sonak turned to face the stranger, briefly ignoring her era guests. "There is nothing laughable about Arok being crazy," she said coldly, "that old fool is crazy. And I agree we should have a briefing, but all senior staff of all three vessels. Or at least myself, Admiral MC7of9 and Captain Kirk with our respective first officers."
She paused, giving Captain Kirk a chance to speak up, then continued to give Traks her icy stare. "Permission denied on the rotation, Major Larok is perfectly capable of controlling our marine contingent and seeing to their training. Admiral MC7of9 would quite likely value your concentration on keeping the Raven safe. We have yet to encounter any indiginous life to this sector but I am prepared to assume the worst."
Just at the moment Traks had left, the Vesuvius shook violently, nearly throwing Sonak off her feet. She managed to support herself against the biobed Kirk was seated on. "Bridge, report!" she called, "are we under attack?" She pondered for a moment. "Commander Kirk, familiarise yourself with your controls and activate the cloaking device!"
She turned back to her guests. "Captain Kirk, I suggest you come with me. Doctor Saryn, remain here in sickbay. Co-ordinate with Raven's chief medical officer and expect Counselor Biers to arrive any second. You will accomodate him if he wishes to pursue a counseling session. Understood?"
The older Vulcan returned her cold glare with one of his own, looking ready to start an argument but thinking the better of it. "yes ma'am," he answered, his tone clipped, "I shall be waiting here. Anything else?"
Sonak shook her head. "Do not go exploring on your own. I will have Larok detain you if I have to. Captain, that goes for all of your crew. Our technology must not be known to you, for it will destroy the temporal directive and we may cease to exist."
Taking the young captain by his arm, she bodily dragged him out of sickbay, back to the main bridge. "Report!" she called, then signaled for Kirk to contact the Raven. "Admiral, did your sensors pick up anything?"

Carl had been in the small observation room overlooking what 'was' the main shuttle-bay, but was now much much larger, and contained the saucer section of the NX-03.
It was testament to twenty fourth century technology that the Raven was staying in one piece, considering the amount of bulkhead that had been removed .. Taking a last look at the ship from the past, he headed back to the Bridge.
He noticed the the Vesuvius had moved closer again, now all possibility of an exploding Star ship were negated, that was good, making transport safer if nothing else.
There was a shimmer in front of the view screen and Commander McLean appeared, looking for all the world like he'd just run a marathon.
"How's it going ?" Torek asked.
"Not good." McLean said, proceeding to explain the problems they were having on the Challenger.
"I'll see what I can do, We should ask Captain Kirk, and one or two of his Engineering staff to return to the Raven and assist." Carl said, then frowned as Scott stayed put, "Something else Scott ...... ?"
"It's Traks ...... Colonel Traks and the Vesuvius' Marine Commander. They're locking the ship, both ship's down as if we're going to attack at any moment. I can't get any information because of that, that, pompous Vulcan over there !"
"Calm down Scott." Torek said, grinning, "I'll order Colonel Traks to minimize his security details, and I'll 'request' Commodore Sonak ask Larok to do likewise ... After all, it's not likely we're going to be stealing centuries old technology is it."
"Then may I respectfully request that you do it quickly." McLean said, a wry smile forming, "Because I'm sorely tempted to land a right hook on the next 'jobs-worth' Marine that tells me what, or where I can or cant go !"
Finished, Scott almost marched off the Bridge, leaving Carl grinning after him .. He tapped his Comm badge to contact Colonel Traks, when he exited the turbo-lift that Scott had entered ..
"Ahh Colonel, I was just about to contact you .."
"I have mirrored the security precautions that Major Larok has in place .. But there are sev ......"
"I want to talk to you about those 'precautions' Colonel." Carl said, Shutting the Marine off in mid sentence, and being a man not used to being interrupted, Traks gaped in silence, "There's no need for the excessive measures Colonel." Torek finished.
"I'm sorry commander, but I disag ......"
"I want minimum presence from your Marines Colonel .. Thats an order .. They are not to interfere with Commander McLean's teams, and will only place the minimum or constrictions on the people beaming in from the Challenger who will be assisting the Engineers .. I am requesting Commodore Sonak ask Larok to do likewise."
Traks knew he was out-ranked, and for a second thought of taking the issue to the Admiral, but decided against it. He'd minimize his mens' presence, but would in no way relax his monitoring of the 'visitors' to the Raven .. Nodding, he headed for the lift once again, he had some revisions to make ..
Sighing, Carl ordered a Comm to the Vesuvius, and once it was established, asked Commodore Sonak to have Kirk and his Engineers beam over, then explained what he had told Colonel Traks, politely requesting she follow suit with Larok.
Closing the Comm, he sat down and tried to relax, before the next hurdle approached ..........

Kirk stood flat on his feet a gasp at how quickly his concerns were looked over and reaffirmed as necessary precautions against possible native hostile life. He knew there was something else behind the orders but nobody was saying it directly and it had something to do with the Challenger crew.
Here were citizens of the Federation, as Jonathan looked upon the situation, being escorted around by armed guards all because they are from the past. It was these situations where diplomacy needed to shine through, not military superiority, and that is exactly what the shortsighted Marines had done. He understood and agreed upon locking out the systems and limiting access to vital systems, but the impression the armed guards displayed to their peers of the past was sickening.
The ship rocked suddenly and it took Kirk from his thoughts as he braced himself against the nearest bio bed, Commander Kirk, familiarize yourself with your controls and activate the cloaking device!"
“Yes ma’am.” Kirk replied before he rushed out of sickbay.
On the bridge, Kirk did not get the chance to take in the new sights and sounds as he rushed over to the OPS station. Onboard the Raven he had taken it upon himself to familiarize himself with the layout of the entire USS Vesuvius. The hours of study had paid off, as he was able to make his way around the ship much quickly than if he had to constantly ask for directions.
The OPS station on the Vesuvius was designed and structured just like any other OPS station on any other ship, so Jonathan little to no trouble finding the cloaking device, “Cloak activated.” Kirk called out through the COM to the Commodore.

"Nice ship you have here, Lt Thorad, mind taking me around a bit and showing me around, I do feel rather strange aboard a federation vessel, but it’s a new experience none the less."
After the little tour that Thorad gave Duke around the bridge, seeing McCalisters interest in everything, Fox walked to Halthor. "Maybe Commander McCalister would be interested in seeing astrometrics. An extra hand there would always be welcome." Halthor nodded "but keep the Temperal Directive in mind" he answered. "I will not forget." Fox responded.
With that Fox walked to McCalister and optioned to give him a tour to astrometrics and one of the science labs. Who gladly agreed to have a look around there. Both men walked to the turbolift.
Not much later they arrived at astrometrics. Fox immediately walked to a console, pressing a few buttons on it. Immediately a chart appeared on the huge screen in the room. "As you can see we're still charting this area."
