"Thank you, Commander, please see if you can tell what direction it was going in and what type of cloak it was please," Commander Pride directed towards science.
“Aye, Sir,” T’Nar replied, fingers dancing over the console to take a closer look at the information they had and compare it with known engine and cloak designs. At the same time, the computer was working on an extrapolation of course, taking into account the continued analysis. The Vulcan had not expected the yellow alert, but past the initial...surprise was unaffected by the flashing warning lights and alarms. A few moments later, Commander Pride addressed her again. "Commander, take all the power you can get, channel it to your sensors. Take it from the shields if you have to. If they were here to fire on us, they would have done it already. I would like a heading and a make on the ship, if possible before the command staff arrives."
“I will locate the heading as soon as it is possible,” T’Nar replied logically, keeping her attention focused on her console. The human idea that increased need would translate into a task being completed faster still didn’t entirely make sense to her.
~
"If this incident is somehow related to our current mission, I fear that we have more serious problems that we thought," Matt replied as he examined the weapon for himself. "Commander, I want this device checked for organic material. The design is a little bit different but I'm sure this is a Breen weapon," he added looking grim.
Nodding, Megan agreed, “I believe you’re right, Sir. I was just examining it more closely, and I noticed that there are several components from a variety of races. While the design and most parts are indeed Breen, it seems to have been cobbled together to give it enhanced power and capabilities. It also makes it more difficult to trace its true origin. I will run a scan for organic materials as well,” she added.
Within a few moments, the computer had already identified several organic traces, but once again there were samples from three or four different races. It didn’t seem they were going to get any easy breaks. Commander Garrett was about to report on the findings when the yellow alert sounded and an announcement came over the comm from the helmsman. =/\=All senior officers please report to your stations, and Captain Reynolds and Commander Garrett, please report to the bridge.=/\=
Glancing quickly at Matt, the two were already moving toward the door. "After you, number one," Captain Reynolds offered as she ordered two tactical officers in the armory to keep guard over the weapon and the command team left the room. "As soon as we arrive, I want to disengage the Jefferson from Assailant,” the Captain said as the lift moved towards its destination. “For the moment, I'm calling off our investigation on the starbase,” he added as the doors opened up onto the bridge.
"Commander Pride, report," Matt requested, but stopped in his tracks at the sight of a far from happy dockmaster on the screen. “We'll be disengaging the Jefferson immediately. I'll send Admiral Lin a report once I know what happened. Jefferson out,” he offered before turning back to Pride. “Commander Pride, what happened?"
As the navigational officer reported on the situation, Megan half listened and half brought up the readings on her terminal. It was very clearly the result of a vessel going to warp, with additional indications of a cloak, but determining its heading would be far more difficult. General direction was shown, but nothing more specific as of yet. What was worse, based on current engineering and operations reports, the Jefferson was not in good enough shape to head up a chase for quite awhile.
"Commander Garrett, do you have any ideas?" Matt asked glancing over at her as Ensign Tavik arrived and took his station, Monica moving to a vacant science post.
“Well, Lieutenant Quindara’s right, Sir. We can’t go to warp with the damage to the nacelles, and it will take several days to fix it. First, we need to track that cloaked ship, and based on this data, that will take several hours at least,” Megan replied.
"Commander Garrett, how many shuttles do we have in the shuttlebay that would be able to catch up with that ship?" the Captain asked, glancing sideways at her.
Not wanting to talk about her own shuttle, she sidestepped the question, “Well that would depend on what type of ship we’re chasing. If we take a closer look at the sensor logs, we may be able to determine its warp specifications to get a better idea of how easily we might be able to catch up to it,” the Commander replied diplomatically.
"Commander Garrett, Ensign Tavik, have you ever heard of the Polaric Neutralization Beam?" Matt asked. Of course Megan had, and had even used the device in the mission before last, but the Captain looked so excited, she just let him explain, at least for the new operations chief’s benefit if nothing else. “Computer, show us the specs for the Polaric Neutralization Beam," Reynold’s ordered. "With this at our disposal, we can penetrate any cloak ever designed. The only problem is its size. I was working on a miniaturized version a long time ago, but stopped all research on it when I left the Jefferson. Ensign, I would like your help installing one of these beams on two of our shuttles,” Captain Reynolds requested, looking very excited.
"Captain, we don't even know if we will be able to use those shuttles," Monica reminded from a secondary science station as Megan thought of her own shuttle.
"You’re right, but I want to be prepared," Matt replied, as he turned back to Megan. "Commander, can we use any of those shuttles to find that cloaked ship?"
Hesitating visibly, Commander Garrett tried to figure out what to say. While it was true that her shuttle and Commander Reynold’s new Captain’s Yacht were the two fastest independent ships available, Megan was unsure she wanted to give away how modified the Sommers was, both in regards to speed and the integrated cloak detection systems. Still, it was hard to justify holding it back when it would help…
“Your new personal shuttle is...probably the fastest one at our disposal, while mine is…modified to be somewhat faster than a typical shuttle of that class as well, if in fact you’re referring to those two, Sir,” Commander Garrett replied, hesitating only slightly several times, as she considered her wording carefully. The last thing she wanted was Captain Reynolds getting suspicious and poking around that shuttle. “If that is what you are referring to, I can handle the upgrade to my shuttle to save on time. I’ve tinkered with those systems so much…it will be much faster that way.”

Walking briskly back toward the security office, Marina was still shaken from what had happened with her sister. It wasn’t like she’d really said anything bad…but to have Megan catch her talking like that had been incredibly awkward. One thing the security officer hadn’t really counted on when she joined the Jefferson was being under her older sister’s command. While she was used to Megan seeming to know the answer to everything, and exactly what to do, she’d never been in a position where she had to listen and do what she said before, and that was really weird… Still, it was something Ensign Garrett would get used to if she wanted to stay here.
Striding in at full pace, now dressed appropriately, Marina reported in to Ensign Orlov, who was coordinating the search. “Ah, Ensign Garrett, everyone’s already out searching, but we just found something odd on the sensor logs. The records in sickbay have been tampered with, but we’re trying to reconstruct them. Go talk to the staff and have a look around to see if anything is out of place,” Lucas ordered.
“Aye, Sir,” Marina replied excitedly. Her first real assignment! Hurrying from office to turbolift to sickbay, Ensign Garrett arrived very quickly and immediately met a very cute nurse...but unfortunately, she was on duty. After politely informing him of her reason for being there, allowing the fact that she hadn’t yet had her physical to slip out…professionally of course…the security officer began to ask questions of those who were on duty at the time of the sensor tampering. No one seemed to remember anything unusual, so she was about to begin scanning when the yellow alert went off. Startled, the new officer glanced around trying to decide what to do.
Finally deciding to just continue with her job until told otherwise, Marina began her scan of the entire sickbay looking for anything unusual. A few minutes later, the man she recognized as Jayden’s partner…Nathan entered. She didn’t really want to speak to him, and he hadn’t been on duty at the time in question, so she simply continued about her business. =/\=Orlov to Ensign Garrett, we’ve cleared up some of the readings, and it looks like there was some sort of power surge in the morgue.=/\=
“Acknowledged,” Marina replied, noticing that Doctor…Nathan was watching her, so she crossed sickbay to speak with him. “Excuse me, Doctor, is there currently a body stored in the morgue?” Ensign Garrett asked, remaining entirely professional.
<Tag Nathan>
“I will need to scan the area, as well as ensure that everything is as it should be,” Marina replied heading for the door and trying to ignore the fact that she felt that room was creepy. Once entering the sterile, slightly cold room, the security officer pulled out her tricorder as well as visually scanned for any signs of power overload or discharge. There were none, so she crossed to the first…place…that indicated there was a body inside. Shuddering slightly, Ensign Garrett activated the panel and stepped back slightly, closing her eyes as the hatch opened and a large tray slid out.
Finally getting up the nerve to crack an eye open, really not wanting to see a dead body, Marina was startled to find…nothing. Frowning, she checked the readout to find out who this was supposed to be, but only found a very unhelpful, ‘Jane Doe’ listed. “Doctor…?” Ensign Garrett called out. “Isn’t there supposed to b...” Trailing off, it was then the security officer noticed scorching on the metal tray, indicative of some sort of power discharge. As Nathan approached from, main sickbay, the younger officer glanced up at him. “Doctor…who was supposed to be in here…?”

He let out the breath he had been holding and relaxed it seemed the captain had agreed with his call. As he took his station he listened to the captain and Commander talk about a way to track the ship. He also listened to the reports on the shuttles this got him a little excited and he pulled up the designs on the 2 ships. He tested piloted both before the only problem was there wasn't much on Commander Garrett shuttle which was a little shocking.
He looked back down and brought the shuttle bay up on little view screen to look at Commander Garretts. He could tell there was a couple of designs changes and from all he could tell it was black ops changes. He had test ships designs for them to and was alittle taken back to see them on this ship belonging to a commander. He decided now was not the the time to ask to many questions but the fact it was down there and belonged to Commander Garrett was a little worry some. Black ops only gave out those ships to operatives they weren't given to first officers. He listened even more as they tried to figure out a way to speed up tracking the ship.
He already had a general heading and he closed his eye's again and concentrated on that spot in space. He could feel the ripple in space with the ships cloak engaged it was more noticeable. Still it was a stretch sitting here trying to focus, if he was closer the could feel it more and follow the ripple. Looking back at the Captain and the Commander he could tell they wanted to get moving but were having to wait until they could get more information.
" Captain , Commander if you want to track that ship I can do it but we have to leave in the next 15 Min's or so. The Trail is already starting to subside and I wont be able to feel it for much longer unless we are under way. I know T'Nar is working on tracking but every minute wasted puts it further away. She can work on in route if I loose the trail but for the moment with the cloak active its making a more noticeable change to the flow of space."
He knew he was going to have to explain things sooner of later Captain Drago learned about him and that was the reason why he was the pilot for the Scavenger. There looks on there face were little skeptical.
" Listen when we have more time I'll explain don't worry I can't vanish or make things move. I can sense things not emotions just patterns and the way things react as you move. I can control my own body functions. Think of it like a blind person whose other sense are heighten accept I'm not blind. I was raised on the world of Teac by adoptive family. They are different then the rest of us and they taught me to use my mind and my senses. Times a wasting if you want to go we need to move unless you want to wait for the T'Nar to figure away to track them" <Tag anybody>

Jayden never got a chance to get a reply in but it was just as well as he really had nothing to reply. He hadn't meant to give the girl any ideas and he still hoped she would be a friend; he didn't have too many to begin with, besides the ones from the marine corps and of course Nathan. Shrugging, he turned on his heels and joined Nathan in their quarters.
Soon enough though, his partner's father turned up as well, looking a little out of breath, as though he'd been running to come back aboard. "Are you all right?" the marine asked, as he guided the old man to a seat. "Nathan, your dad's come back!" he called, only to see the holonanny appearing from the children's bedroom.
"He's gone to sickbay," the nanny replied, "you missed him by a few minutes. He went as soon as the baby was seen to." She handed the infant to the marine, then deactivated herself as she wasn't necessary if there was someone there to tend to the children.
Peter van Breughel shook his head as he sat on the offered seat. "That boy does nothing but work," he scowled under his breath, "one day he'll give himself a heart attack!" He looked up and saw the young marine pale visibly. "What?"
"You don't know?" Jayden bounced back, somewhat bemused that his partner was referred to as 'boy' at his age, "I mean, he hasn't told you?"
"Told me what? C'mon son, spill it. What is there I don't know that I should know about?"
"A while ago, Nathan spent some time in the brig after shooting the previous commanding officer. It wasn't really his fault and he was cleared, but something happened and he suffered a major heart attack. It almost killed him. Soon after, two more milder ones followed and he's on medication for the time being." Jayden felt bad for spilling this information to the old man, but he figured he'd find out sooner rather than later. "I've taken great care to watch what he's doing and how much he's doing, at least for now he listens to me."
The old man patted the younger one on his shoulder, in awkward comfort. "I'm glad he's got you to look after him son," he murmured, "he doesn't know half how lucky he is to have you."
Eyes glinstering, Jayden looked up. "We look after eachother," he added, "he saved my life on Dorvan." He continued to relate what had happened since then. "Oh, and the captain wanted to meet you, before I forget...I think you'll find him on the bridge?"
Patting Jayden's hand once more, Peter rose to his feet. "Well I shan't keep the captain waiting then. You'll be all right here with the little ones? I'll go to sickbay after meeting the captain, to see if I can give my boy a hand. Might as well make myself useful while I'm here." At Jayden's nod, the old man left the quarters and headed for the bridge.
"I'm looking for a Captain Matthew Reynolds," he announced, grabbing the nearest person by his arm. "I'm told he was looking for me."

~sickbay~ “Excuse me, Doctor, is there currently a body stored in the morgue?” Ensign Garrett asked, remaining entirely professional.
Nathan saw the girl approaching and held his breath, biting back a greeting he'd rather not give under the circumstances. Despite Matt's reassurances, Nathan couldn't help but feel somewhat jealous; a feeling altogether new to him where dating was concerned as well. And he could say now, that he didn't like the feeling at all.
"Yes, we have a body stored in the morgue," he answered politely, "a girl named Angelique. She was shot earlier today aboard Starbase Assailant and I have yet to perform the autopsy. Why?"
“I will need to scan the area, as well as ensure that everything is as it should be.”
Since the girl was now in security, Nathan couldn't deny her or it would be obstruction of duty. "As you wish," he replied, then gestured towards the morgue. "Please inform me if you find anything out of the ordinary."
The doctor exchanged a curious look with his senior nurse and the marine heavy weapons specialist, who had taken up several duties as a nurse as well. Shrugging, he went back to work, fully expecting the girl to report anything unusual. Several seconds later, his attention was drawn back to the morgue, where the girl was stood gazing at an empty tray. Curious, he started his approach.
“Isn’t there supposed to b...” Trailing off, it was then the security officer noticed scorching on the metal tray, indicative of some sort of power discharge. As Nathan approached from, main sickbay, the younger officer glanced up at him. “Doctor…who was supposed to be in here…?”
Frowning, Nathan glanced from the try to the security officer, then back to the tray. He felt his stomach turn and bile rose in his throat as he realised what had happened. "The body of the assassinated girl," he replied stiffly, restraining himself from crying out in fury. "Your power surge was possibly a transporter beam." He tapped his combadge. "Captain, we have a serious problem..." Nathan looked to the girl, expecting her to continue and report the theft of the corpse.

ooc: This starts from a while back and its really long. Sorry. It’s also a post of everything that happened on the bridge when I was there and there is a lot of cutting and pasting of speech. I give credit to all where it is needed. Turning back to Valad, the First Officer continued. “Ensign Tavik, I want you to do something for me before the briefing. I need you to pull up records of everyone who came and went from the Jefferson since we docked at Assailant. I want a compiled report on each person not a member of the Jefferson’s crew: when and where they came aboard, how long they stayed, and when and where they disembarked. Focus on civilians first then move onto Starfleet personnel. Then I want you to pull up sensor records and track their movements, cross referencing them with their stated reason for being onboard as best you can. I realize that the last part will take longer than thirty minutes, so just bring what you have so far to the meeting.” “Yes Commander.” Valad replied. “I’ll take care of it.” He walked out and back down the corridor. The ops office was closer so we made his way there. He sat at his desk and began to call up people on the console. It was a tedious job; it wasn’t hard, it was just a lot and very time consuming. As the Commander requested he started with the civilians. He sifted through reports, transporter records, incoming and outgoing shuttles, and virtually anything and everything else that could incriminate someone. He got through about 25 civilians when: "All senior officer please report to your station, Captain Reynolds and Commander Garrett please report to the bridge" It almost made him jump. ~This sounds important. Its on my first day too. Just my luck.~ He ran out the door and up the corridor to the turbolift. “Bridge.” The lift rose quickly and he soon exited the lift and hurried over to the ops station. He took over for the officer on duty, logged in, and began to read the sensors. The captain then walked in. "Commander Pride report.” Valad looked up and realized the viewscreen was on and the Captain continued. “We'll be disengaging the Jefferson immedaitely. I'll send Admiral Lin a report once I know what has happened. Jefferson out. Commander Pride what happened?" "Sorry sir I know the danger of going to yellow alert while docked but was left little choice. I ordered a system check and a report on anything no matter how small that was out of wack. Commander T'Nar noticed a spike in energy readings futher investigation show a cloaked ship high tailing out of the area as soon as they realized the game was a foot. I confirmed T'Nar reading though other means which I'd rather not go into right now but its part of the reason why I'm a good pilot.” He continued. “Thats when I made the call to go to Yellow alert. I was worried that if star base didn't detect it then what else might be out there, it was only by a off chance we caught this one. I can't feel anything out there but,"he caught himself. He really didn't like trying to explain why he could do the things he could do."I just didn't want to be the one who lost the Jefferson on his first watch, even more I can't be sure there was only one ship. If it decloaked while the other one ran we would have been very dead in space." Captain Reynolds said, "Don't worry about it Commander. This crew has performed this duty quite a few times. I know the dock master will be furious for a while, but he will just have to get over it." Valad thought to himself. ~Yeah everyone except me.~ As Valad kept running through sensor logs making sure to watch for anything out of the ordinary, Captain Reynolds asked an interesting question. “Commander Garrett, Ensign Tavik have you ever heard of the Polaric Neutralization Beam?" Valad shook his head. The Captain rushed through some schematics of a beam that could disrupt a cloaking device. "With this at our disposal, we can penetrate any cloak ever designed. The only problem is its size. I was working on a miniaturized version a long time ago, but stopped all research on it when I left the Jefferson,” the Captain explained. “Ensign I would like your help installing one of these beams on two of our shuttles." “Yes sir,” Valad responded. "Captain, we don't even know if we will be able to use those shuttles," Lieutenant Quindara spoke up with. “Your right, but I want to be prepared,” said Captain Reynolds. “Commander can we use any of the shuttles to find that cloaked ship?" Commander Garrett seemed slow to respond at first. I’ve tinkered with those systems so much…it will be much faster that way.” “Captain, I’m sure any of our shuttles will be able to accept the new equipment. Between the two of us,” he motioned towards the commander, “I’m sure we’ll be able to get it to work.” <tag Matt> Valad brought up the specs again while the Captain decided what was going to be done.

“Your new personal shuttle is...probably the fastest one at our disposal, while mine is…modified to be somewhat faster than a typical shuttle of that class as well, if in fact you’re referring to those two, Sir,” Commander Garrett replied,“If that is what you are referring to, I can handle the upgrade to my shuttle to save on time. I’ve tinkered with those systems so much…it will be much faster that way.”
"That will not be necessary, but I want you on that shuttle helping in the search," Matt said but started to listen to Commander Pride's explanation about finding the cloaked ship. Having experienced these types of abilities before, Matt did not question the commander. He knew how difficult those types of feelings were and in time they would all get more comfortable with it.
"Listen when we have more time I'll explain don't worry I can't vanish or make things move. Times a wasting if you want to go we need to move unless you want to wait for the T'Nar to figure away to track them"
"That's why you will be coming with us, Commander,"Matt said as he tried to give his helm's office a reassuring look. Every member of the Jefferson had a secret and Matt would not push them to reveal them.
"I'm looking for a Captain Matthew Reynolds," he announced, grabbing the nearest person by his arm. "I'm told he was looking for me."
"You must be Doctor van Breughel," Matt said as he offered his hand in welcome," I'm sorry to say that I will not be able to welcome you to the Jefferson properly. I will be leaving within minutes on an away mission. Nathan invited me to dinner, I hope you will be there as well."
(Peter)
“Captain, I’m sure any of our shuttles will be able to accept the new equipment. Between the two of us,” he motioned towards the commander, “I’m sure we’ll be able to get it to work.”
"Ensign, we'll have to make the modification in flight," Matt said to the confident ensign. Even though he was fresh out the boat, Valad was not showing any sign of weakness which just spoke of his character. Even though he had only been here a very short time, Valad had indeed impress the Captain very much," please get all the required materials on board the Seraph. We will be leaving withing ten minutes."
(Valad)
"Commander, please join us on the shuttlebay within ten minutes," Matt said towards Megan as he walked towards the lift. He needed to do one thing before he left the Jefferson. "Main Engineering"
(Megan)
Even before he entered engieering, he knew that they were all hard at work. Commander T'Ress's voice could be heard very clearly. When Matt entered engineering, a collective moan could be heard. They must have thought that he was going to complain or scream at all of them. This of course was not the case.
"Commander, J'Varr T'Ress, front and center," Matt said loudly which got everyone's attention," Commander J'Varr T'Ress you are hereby promoted to Second Officer with all responsibilities and priviledges that come with that role. Congrulations."
(J'Varr)
"Commander I didn't want to do it this way, but Megan and I are going on an away mission," Matt said to his feline officer," I want you to know that we have the upmost confidence in you. Please continue with repairs. Hopefully we'll be here in a few hours."
(J'Varr)
"Captain, we have a serious problem..." Nathan explained as he informed Matt about the theft of the girl's corspe. ~I don't need this now!~ Matt thought angrily. Whatever was happening, he had no control over it and that was not sitting well with him.
"Doctor, please talk with Major Johnson," Matt said knowing that he could not postpone the away mission," he has a lot of experience in these types of investigations."
(Nathan)
"Reynolds to Away team, is everyone ready?" Matt asked as he walked out of main engineering and back to the turbolift. This was turning out to be a very bad day.

"That will not be necessary, but I want you on that shuttle helping in the search," Matt replied, and Megan felt a wave of relief. No one would be tinkering with the Sommer’s systems and she would be the only one aboard…at least she hoped…
As Commander Pride began to explain his ability to track the ship, the black ops agent was intrigued. She had heard of people with these kinds of abilities and had even worked with one before on a mission. They made excellent trackers, both on the ground and in space, and so the navigational officer’s presence would be an enormous asset and advantage. Moving to the science station, Megan briefly spoke with Commander T’Nar. “Continue your work and transmit your findings to myself on the Sommers and Captain Reynolds on the Seraph. Attempt to identify the type of vessel, or at least the type of engine, and the cloak, along with the speed and heading. Utilize the rest of the department to get this done as soon as possible.”
"Commander, please join us in the shuttlebay within ten minutes," Matt ordered on his way past before he entered the lift. Megan barely had time to acknowledge as the door slid shut. Nodding once to the Vulcan science officer, Commander Garrett moved towards the second lift and headed for the security offices. She wanted to get a quick report on the search of the ship before heading to the bay to begin the away mission. She was just outside of the office when her comm badge sounded.
=/\=Garrett to Commander Garrett,=/\= Marina’s voice requested professionally.
Biting back a sigh, Megan replied, “Garrett here...” waiting to see what she wanted.
=/\=I was ordered to search sickbay for anything unusual and found something. It appears that a body was stolen or destroyed from the morgue. Doctor...the doctor reported that it is the girl who was murdered on the station,=/\= the security officer reported, causing Megan to stop in her tracks. This certainly changed everything.
“Seal off the morgue and process the area for any evidence. Also, check with the staff and sensor records to determine how many people had access to the morgue since the body was placed there,” Megan ordered as she moved to her destination.
Upon arrival, the first officer spoke briefly with Ensign Orlov, requesting the current chief of security to continue to search the ship and sensor records and also focus on the new evidence. “The Captain and I are leaving on an away team. I want you to report anything you find to Major Johnson. He’ll be heading up the investigation until we return,” Megan ordered before returning to the lift and opening a channel.
“Garrett to Major Johnson, until further notice, you are in charge of the investigation. Work with Ensign Orlov and security to find out as much information as you can. Captain Reynolds will be on the Seraph, and I’ll be on the Sommers, but keep us informed of any developments,” the first officer ordered before closing the channel.
<Tag Cyle>
As the lift continued to move, Megan briefly considered what motive anyone would have to take the body of the young girl, but then it hit her. They were erasing the evidence. Suddenly very concerned, Commander Garrett opened another channel. “Garrett to Doctor van Breughel, I want you to keep a close eye on Angelique, even request a security presence if necessary. I don’t want anything to happen to her, and whoever is responsible for this may just come after her next,” she cautioned.
<Tag Nathan>
Arriving at her destination, Megan glanced around the bay before heading towards her shuttle and nodding at two Marines who glanced up as she approached. It was a relief to see them taking watching the shuttle so seriously. The simple looking vessel looked relatively undisturbed, and for that the Commander was grateful.
=/\=Reynolds to away team, is everyone ready?=/\= the Captain’s voice requested over the comm as Megan crossed the shuttle bay and approached the Sommers.
“Aye, Sir,” Megan replied. “I’ll be starting the pre-launch sequence momentarily.” After completing the security clearances again, Commander Garrett stepped into the basic looking ship and took down the internal stealth settings before moving to her seat. Since she would be alone, there was no need to make it more difficult to access all the systems. As the vessel powered up and began running necessary checks, she checked to make sure special communication protocols were in place so any visual channel would send altered backgrounds making it appear that she was in a normal shuttle. The first officer also tested the emergency stealth system several times to make sure that within a few seconds, the shuttle could transform back into a completely unobtrusive and inconspicuous, standard Starfleet shuttle.
Once everything checked out and the Sommers was fully powered and ready to go, Megan deactivated the decoy and cloaked the small device resting on the floor of the shuttle bay before opening a channel to the Seraph. “This is Commander Garrett onboard the Sommers. All systems are go, and I’m ready when you are.”

Valad looked at the specs for the new polaric neutralization beam as the Captain decided what to do.
The Captain said, “That will not be necessary, but I want you on that shuttle helping in the search.”
"Listen when we have more time I'll explain don't worry I can't vanish or make things move. I can sense things not emotions just patterns and the way things react as you move. I can control my own body functions. Think of it like a blind person whose other sense are heighten accept I'm not blind.” Commander Pride said. “I was raised on the world of Teac by adoptive family. They are different then the rest of us and they taught me to use my mind and my senses. Times a wasting if you want to go we need to move unless you want to wait for the T'Nar to figure away to track them"
Valad’s interest grew as Commander Pride explained about is abilities and wondered if a human good learn to adapt their senses to this heightened ability.
“That's why you will be coming with us, Commander," said Captain Reynolds.
Valad almost bursted with excitement. An away mission. On his first day too. “He confirmed the designs with the shuttle specs. “Captain, I’m sure any of our shuttles will be able to accept the new equipment. Between the two of us,” he motioned towards the commander, “I’m sure we’ll be able to get it to work.”
"Ensign, we'll have to make the modification in flight," said the Captain. “Please get all the required materials on board the Seraph. We will be leaving within ten minutes."
“Aye, sir.” Valad nodded as he spoke, then quickly walked off the bridge to gather what was needed. After several minutes, he had gathered what he needed from engineering and a cargo bay, and took it to the shuttle Seraph.
=/\=Reynolds to Away team, is everyone ready?"=/\=
Valad heard from another part of the shuttle bay. “Aye, Sir,” It was Commander Garrett. “I’ll be starting the pre-launch sequence momentarily.”
“This is Ensign Tavik. All is ready Captain. We can leave when ready, sir.”

"I'm going home immediately commander," Nathan promised, "it seems like I'm taking the rest of the day off. For the safety of my family, I'm prepared to do what it takes ma'am. Nobody will tough my daughter."
This made him realise something else. "Commander...who was supposed to teach me how to defend myself? I think it's about time someone devoted some time to that, especially now. I need permission to carry a phaser, I don't want to be unarmed righ now, even if I am a lousy shot." He shuddered at the very idea of wielding a phaser, but he didn't see any alternative.
Turning, he regarded Marina, eyes pleading. "I need someone of the security department to protect my daughter...would you..?" He knew Jayden would offer immediately, but Nathan just couldn't keep him from his own duties. He had a marine company to lead, under Johnson's supervision. "Please?" he added before walking out of sickbay, breaking into a run as soon as he reached the deck that contained his quarters.
"Daddy!" Freddie raced towards him, wrapping his arms around his father's legs. "You're home early. Angelique is still sleeping and there's a message for you."
Frowning, Nathan crossed to his desk and accessed the message. "Dad, what do you know about this?" he queried, turning the screen so his father could see.
"It's gibberish," Peter replied, "why not forward it to a cryptologist? Surely a vessel as big as this has one?"
In response, Nathan nodded. "Commander Garrett, I'm forwarding you an encrypted message. Could you have someone decrypt it for me?" As he spoke, he walked over to the crib and picked up his daughter. "Someone's after my little girl," he informed his father, "we're all in danger now. But I'm doing all I can to protect us." He now pointed to the phaser that lay within reach. "And let's hope I won't be needing to use that...it's bad enough I've got to have one."
Peter nodded in sympathy. "I'll take her, you get some rest. I'll wake you in an hour." He watched as his son nodded and walked off. ~poor boy~ he thought as he settled on the cough with both his grandchildren.

Listening to the captain he started to think I might like it here after all. Nobody asked a bunch of questions which was good and it was making things easy for him. He head for the shuttle bay and passed Commander Garrett Shuttle his sense went hay wire. Something about it kept reminding himself of a classified ship he had test piloted but he could put his finger on it. Still any time he got close his sense would go nuts there was a unseen energy pattern.
He kept heading to the captain shuttle he didn't have the time to figure it out. The trail was getting colder by the second. He automaticly took the spare copilots chairs, this was not his ship and he didn't know it the captain wanted to fly or not. He started working on preflight while they waited for the captain and he closed his eyes and programmed the first part of there flight after that he would have to focus again.

"Commander...who was supposed to teach me how to defend myself? I think it's about time someone devoted some time to that, especially now. I need permission to carry a phaser; I don't want to be unarmed right now, even if I am a lousy shot."
As Nathan signed off from talking to her sister, Marina had a suggestion. “I could teach you about self defense,” she offered. “I may be small, but I know a thing or two about the subject,” the security officer added, grinning before she realized that given the gravity and implied danger of the situation, this was no time for smiling.
The younger Garrett wasn’t even sure the doctor heard her, as he looked worried before he turned back to her with pleading eyes. “I need someone of the security department to protect my daughter...would you..?" he asked before looking a little panicked and heading for the door, throwing “Please?” over his shoulder as he left.
With a sigh, Marina wished she could help, but at the moment at least, she was on duty and had an assignment to do, from Megan no less. Taking a very slow, very careful sweep of the entire, creepy area, the security officer found nothing was out of place or out of the ordinary, which made sense considering it wouldn’t take long to walk into a room and either fire a high level weapon to vaporize the body or place a locator device on it to beam it away. Still, she knew that forensic scientists and security personnel were good at picking up the tiniest little detail, so the best thing to do was leave and make sure it remained undisturbed to avoid erasing evidence.
Quickly stepping outside, Marina tapped her commbadge. “Garrett to security, Sir, I need a forensic team sent to the morgue to pull any evidence, as well as sensor records of everyone who came and went from the morgue since the girl’s body was placed there,” she requested, feeling strangely important to be in an investigation.
=/\=Acknowledged, Ensign, we will send a team right away. In the meantime, keep everyone else out of the morgue until they get there,=/\= came Ensign Orlov’s reply.
“Understood, Sir; also, Commander Garrett suggested that whoever did this may be after Doctor...van...” A helpful doctor nearby, who had been listening in on the conversation, graciously whispered Nathan’s last name to her, causing Marina to send her a grateful smile. “…Doctor van Breughel’s daughter, so he requested a security presence to help protect her,” Marina reported, feeling increasingly useful.
=/\=We’ll assign a detail,=/\= her new boss replied before the channel was closed.
Turning to the nearby doctor, Ensign Garrett smiled at her again. “Thanks for your help. I’m having the hardest time remembering that!” she confessed with a laugh.
Laughing as well, the doctor replied, “Don’t worry about it. It sure is a tough one.”
Nodding in agreement, Marina got an idea. “Hey, do you think you could ask one of the other doctors or nurses to keep an eye on the other door to the morgue until the examiners get here? I know they’re not security guards, but it shouldn’t be for too long, and I just want to make sure that everything is left as it is,” she requested.
“I’ll see if I can arrange that,” the doctor replied before moving off to find someone.
“Thank you again,” Ensign Garrett sent after her while remaining at her post. The forensic team would be here shortly, and she would supervise, and perhaps even get to help them somehow. She had always been fascinated by forensic science... Ooo…and maybe if she was lucky, Marina would get to meet some cute scientist!
~
While waiting for the order to get underway, Megan was surprised when the comm sounded. =/\=Commander Garrett, I'm forwarding an encrypted message. Could you have someone decrypt it for me?=/\= the doctor requested, sounding very tired.
“Of course,” the Commander replied before she closed the channel. Accessing her personal database from the shuttle to download the message and gave it a quick look. Her mind immediately began to pick apart familiar sequences and sift through language patterns, but of course she knew there wasn’t time for her to complete it before the mission began, so she opened another channel. “Garrett to Commander T’Ress, I’m sending you a message Doctor van Breughel received. I know you’re busy getting the ship up and running, but we need this message decrypted. It may be important to the mission,” she ordered, thinking it may be connected somehow.
<Tag J’Varr>
“Thank you, Commander. Also, put a trace on its signal and try to identify its point of origin,” Megan requested, hoping that if this was involved and sent from the ship they were chasing, it would at least confirm the direction that they were pursuing.

Preflight was complete and they were still waiting on the captain. He pull up the scanners and started scanning Commander Garrett shuttle. He wasn't shocked to see them come back normal nothing there but a standard shuttle. He couldn't understand it his sense were never wrong there was a energy pattern there. He tried to remember where he had felt somthing like that before. Something from the past he couldn't quite put a finger on something about a top secert ship but how many of those had he flown which one was it.
He decided it was better to waste time on it later, there were more pressing things besides as long as the commander stayed back a little he could focus with out the back round noise.

“Garrett to Commander T’Ress, I’m sending you a message Doctor van Breughel received. I know you’re busy getting the ship up and running, but we need this message decrypted. It may be important to the mission,” she ordered, thinking it may be connected somehow.
Commander J’Varr T’Ress was indeed busy trying to get the ship up and running to full capacity. There was still the question of the full operation of the Starboard nacelle, and in fact, the feline could not initially answer his call, due to the fact that he was entering time-sensitive data regarding the warp field geometry of the vessel.
Considering those congruent parts of triangles, themselves known to be congruent, are congruent, the geometry of the warp field should have been considered to be symmetrical. However, with minor modifications, by a few degrees, they were no longer.
Therefore, considering the top of the vessel to be a coordinate plane of sorts, he was trying to use plotted points on an image of the vessel to try and remap the systems.
Finally tapping his combadge, he leaned back into his seat and exhaled while his tail relaxed its coil, drooping along the back of his seat, “Murr, T’Ress here.”
Thinking about what she had said, he nodded, “My apologies for the delay; I was working on the engines. A message decrypted? Well, I should be..murr..yes, yes here it is. You have it entered right? Good, I can connect from down here in engineering.”
“Thank you, Commander. Also, put a trace on its signal and try to identify its point of origin,” Megan requested, hoping that if this was involved and sent from the ship they were chasing, it would at least confirm the direction that they were pursuing.
The feline’s tail again coiled, “Of course Commander. I will do what I can. The trace will take some time, and the decryption will take time depending on my own intellect. I thank you for being understanding. Merrow. T’Ress out.”
He left the console he was at, its screen immediately changing back to the crest used to represent the United Federation of Planets. Moving to another on the other side of Main Engineering, he started to run his paws across the console, trying to set out the trace signature as best as he could.
Tapping his badge suddenly, he stared at the screen, “Commander, I need you down in engineering immediately. This code was not sophisticated…and you better see this message.”

"We'll be leaving immediately, Ensign," Matt said as he entered the Seraph. He knew that the Seraph was going to be impressive but he was not expecting such a fine ship. Even though it was his personal shuttle as commanding officer, Matt was going to put the Seraph to work. Such a fine vessel was not going to go to waste sitting in the docking bay," Commander please take the pilot's seat. I'll be your co-pilot."
(Pride)
"Commander start when you are ready," Matt said as he turned around to see Ensign Tavik hard at work. Once again Matt couldn't help but be impressed with the newest addition to the Jefferson. Normally new officers waited for orders, but this one knew that sometimes things just had to be done. "Ensign, I'll start with the modification to the deflector array. We'll have to install the device there. Once you have finished, please let me know."
(Valad)
"Seraph to Sommers, Commander Pride will be charting our course and Commander I would like to see your new shuttle up and close when we arrive. She looks like a beauty," Matt said informing Megan that Desert was going to take the lead. His abilities were going to come as a big advantage to the Jefferson and Matt was going to make sure that Desert felt comfortable with this.
(Megan)
Knowing that he was going to have to work quickly, Matt accessed deflector control. He hadn't tinkered with this type of technology in months, but in a matter of minutes it was easy going. The three officers worked in almost complete silence, something that Matt did not like at all.
"Commander if you don't mind, how long have you had these abilities?" Matt asked hoping to get to know Desert better. He knew from personal experience that these types of abilities were very personal and sometimes one didn't want to share information about them.
(Pride)
"You should meet my son, we had in encounter with a Q and we have never been the same," Matt said remembering the experience vividly," my son was affected more than I. His people had higher levels of telepathy than regular humans." At that moment Matt realized that he hadn't introduced his newest officers to Caleb. Matt was aware that it was a bit unusual, but he wanted everyone to know who was the most important person in his life.
(Pride)
"Ensign, what about yourself? Is there anything unusual that you can do?" Matt asked hoping to get everyone involved.

The Captain had arrived and it looked like this was his first trip in his personal shuttle by his expression of glee on his face
" Commander please take the pilot's seat. I'll be your co-pilot."
" Under stood Sir he brought power to the impulse drive and guide the shuttle out of the Landing bay he was in his element now small sleek and fast. This was why he loved to fly the freedom of it was beyound words at times."
When He over heard the captains conversation to Commander Garrett he piped up as well. " I wouldn't mind a look myself Captain I flew the protype its a real dream." He just wanted to know what was setting his sense off so bad. As he plotted his course he brought the warp drive on line he signaled Commder Garrett
" Commander I'm relaying all course adjustments to you ships computer. Please stay 10,000 parsec behind and match our speed. I will send you all course changes please follow them I know its weird but trust me. I didn't think you wanted to sit back and watch the stars so I didn't take control of flight. Just follow it will seem a little hows the word like drunk driving for a few mins then it will straighten out after I have a better bearing."
He was focusing when the captain started to ask him a few personal question about his abilitys and started to talk about his son he could tell the boy ment everything to there captain and his interst went up when he heard the name Q
" I was orphaned was I was youg captain my familys shuttle crashed on a outer world called TEAC. The people there are very differnt from humans but they are kind and adpoted me and raise me as one of there own. My abilitys are there teachings something that I would never have developed on my own. In a way they are like the Q they know who they are and who they were but dont act like them. They beleive races should be left alone to grow on there own. I was lucky I learned to use my mind which is the first step to understanding why we are here."
" They are now trying to decide weather to join the federation that is why I'm here. I blend in and it was a lesson for me as well to learn to be human and to combine that with what I'am now. Like said I can't vanish or make things move but if you understand patterns then you are close to enlightenment. I will report back when my lesson here are over to let them know what I think. To them we are still childern I'm just one of there favorites the only differnece between me and you doing what I do is knowledge and years of trainning anybody can do this with the right teachings"
He made a course correctoin and relayed to Commander Garret so far the trail was still strong which concerned him alittle it was like the ship had slowed down and was trying to turn around and head back.

=/\=Commander, I need you down in engineering immediately. This code was not sophisticated…and you better see this message,=/\= the voice of the Caitian chief engineer said, and even over the comm the level of severity was impossible to miss.
“I’m in the shuttlebay about to depart on an away mission,” Megan replied, feeling strangely torn like she wanted to be in two places at once. “Go ahead and send the decrypted message to the Sommers,” she requested, turning her attention to a side screen to her left. As the message popped up and the first officer scanned it, a chill descended down her spine. “Get right on that trace, Commander. We need to know as much as possible about its origin; forward anything you find to the Sommers, the Seraph, and Major Johnson. Also, keep working on those engines, Garrett out.”
<Tag J’Varr>
Immediately forwarding the message to Ensign Orlov and Major Johnson to keep them informed of the current situation, Megan dreading making this call, but it had to be done. “Garrett to Doctor van Breughel, the message you sent has been decrypted. I’m afraid it seems that the blackmailers have decided to make contact. If you haven’t requested a security detail already, I am ordering one. You, Freddy, and Angelique are not to leave quarters without escort, and there will be an around the clock security detail outside your quarters. That’s non-negotiable,” she insisted.
“Also, I want you to keep us all informed of any other attempts at communication, and forward any messages to myself, Captain Reynolds, and Major Johnson. We’ll do everything possible to protect you and your family, but we’ll need your full and total cooperation,” Commander Garret emphasized before her computer began to alert her of the fact that Matt had boarded the Seraph. “I’m about to get underway now here. Keep in close contact with Ensign Orlov and Major Johnson, Garret out.”
<Tag Nathan>
Preparing her shuttle for departure, Megan had intentionally avoided telling Doctor van Breughel about what exactly was in the message. In truth, she didn’t think he needed anything more to worry about. It seemed that whoever these people were, they had decided not to just cut their losses and were attempting to gain at least a little something for their trouble. They hadn’t requested anything specific, yet, but the intent was clear: if Nathan wanted his daughter to remain alive, he would have to cooperate with whatever they demanded. Commander Garrett wasn’t really sure how they would get to the baby or what they would ask, but it didn’t really matter at this point. The threat was there, and whatever they wanted shouldn’t be provided.
=/\=Seraph to Sommers, Commander Pride will be charting our course, and Commander, I would like to see your new shuttle up and close when we arrive. She looks like a beauty,=/\= the Captain commented, causing Megan to pause and check to make sure the external stealth projection was indeed functioning correctly. Fortunately, it was, so the Sommers looked like a standard, fairly new shuttle with just a few modifications and a slightly streamlined size to account for its structure.
“Acknowledged, Captain,” Megan replied, deciding to inform him about Nathan’s message once they were underway. Since the Sommers was ready to go, Garrett drafted a quick message to Ensign Orlov detailing the security arrangements that were to be made for the doctor and his family. Once that was sent, the first officer piloted her personal craft smoothly out of the bay and into the expanse of space, moving to closely follow the Seraph as the Captain’s yacht prepared to go to warp.
=/\=Commander, I'm relaying all course adjustments to your ship’s computer. Please stay 10,000 parsec behind and match our speed. I’ll send you all course changes; please follow them; I know its weird, but trust me. I didn't think you wanted to sit back and watch the stars, so I didn't take control of the flight. Just follow, it will seem a little, how’s the word, like drunk driving for a few minutes, then it will straighten out after I have a better bearing,=/\= the voice of Commander Pride informed her.
“Understood,” Megan replied, grateful that the navigator hadn’t tried to link his helm with the Sommers’. Not only did that show her some respect as a pilot, but it also avoided a potentially uncomfortable confrontation between the Seraph’s computer and her own. Any black ops vessel did not take kindly to outside control unless the operator’s identity was verified as one of only a few authorized personnel. Though she would have been there to ‘calm it down,’ the last thing anyone needed was the Sommer’s auto-defense systems being activated. That would blow her cover, and rather spectacularly at that. She most definitely appreciated his consideration.
As the Seraph jumped to warp, Megan quickly guided the Sommers to follow at the specified distance. There was always the option of linking the two navigational systems and setting it to auto-pilot, but the first officer was so rarely provided the opportunity to pilot any ship, she wanted to take advantage of this chance. Sure, it meant rather unnecessarily dropping out of warp, altering course, and reinitializing the engines, potentially over and over again, but the monotony of it was actually a little…relaxing. With the other ship relaying all the relevant information, all she had to do was plug it in and go. It wasn’t hard work, but required just enough attention to keep her mind otherwise clear. It was wonderful to just focus on a simple task.

Valad was already hard at work when Captain Reynolds walked onto the shuttle. “We’ll be leaving immediately, Ensign,” he said, then looked at Commander Pride, “Commander, start when you are ready.”
Valad was already beginning modifications to the shuttle. As he was realigning the deflector dish to accept the new modifications, the Captain said, “Ensign, I'll start with the modification to the deflector array. We'll have to install the device there. Once you have finished, please let me know.”
“I anticipated your request, Captain, and already integrated the actual device onto the ship. It was a simple process, kind of like putting a hat on a snowman, really,” Valad said as he again consulted the specs of the beam. “Its some rough work, ut the modifications to the sensors and computer shouldn’t take more than an hour or so. Even less maybe if it all just works out nicely. We’ll also need to bypass some ship security systems to fully integrate the device as a part of the shuttle. Then we’ll have to reinitialize deflector control and the computer just to make sure everything is set and ready to go.”
(tag Matt)
Captain Reynolds then moved on and began working away from Valad. Valad brought up the main computer and began entering in commands and algorithms to integrate the Polaric Neutralization Beam. On the screen it was pretty much a mess of numbers, factors, and equations. He was typing in quickly so the ship would be ready as soon as possible.
Captain Reynolds and Commander Pride then began to have a conversation, which Valad only half listened to. He was too intently focused on his task at hand. He continued, while the two talked about unusual powers. From what Valad heard, the Captain had an encounter with the Q and Commander Pride had a heightened sense of awareness of his surroundings and the life force of the universe.
"Ensign, what about yourself? Is there anything unusual that you can do?" the Captain asked.
“Not really Captain. I’m not much to shake a stick at. I’ve always had to work harder than others because things just didn’t come easily to me.” He paused. “But then as life and school began to make sense, I began to learn more quickly and as I got older, and I was in a much better academic place than many students.” He began to go back to work but still continued. “I met a Vulcan once who told me that I had the potential to “go beyond” the mental discipline I had then. But I never thought twice about it until I began to understand life; well, understand it enough anyway. Unfortunately that Vulcan died five years ago. I wanted him to be the one to train me, but since he died, I never could do it.”
(tag Matt, Pride)
Valad completed the modifications to the computer system. As he activated the test sequence, the deflector hummed to life and returned positive readings. “Captain, the device is ready to be brought online.”

Nathan felt a pair of arms circle around his waist as he stood frozen in shock and stunned into silence. Slowly he turned his head and saw Jayden stand beside him, a rifle and a phaser lying on the table next to them. "He understands ma'am," the marine answered in his stead, "and I believe he's already requested security escorts himself earlier. I've got the phaser he requested and I'll give him the quick run-down on how to use it, but that's all I can do as technically I'm on duty. I would also request a phaser for the doctor's father, who is still residing with us."
Nathan sighed, even though he had personally requested the phaser. "And I'll try to get that self defense training going as quickly as possible as well," he promised. "Trust me commander, where my family is concerned you bet you have my full co-operation. I don't like it that they're in danger and I'll keep them home for now as much as is possible. My son's friends can bring by his homework if needed."
He paused. "What was the message?" he then demanded, "I've a right to know, as it was sent to me. What was the message commander?" The line remained silent for a long while, almost appearing to be cut off.
The doctor turned to his partner, who was still standing in close quarers to him, then disentangled himself from the younger man's grasp. "Are we still connected?" he queried, his voice trembling in both terror as well as fury.
Jayden could see that the doctor was on the verge of losing his temper and quickly let go. "Nathan, calm yourself."
"Calm?" The doctor turned towards the marine. "You want me to be calm? I might lose my daughter to these freaks, and because of it my son is in danger as well. Do you even know how I feel?"
Deeply hurt, Jayden met his lover's gaze. "Yes," he whispered, "yes, I do know." He hadn't told anyone about his previous married life, not even Nathan. But now he had no choice but to tell. "I had a daughter," he confessed, "and a wife. When she was killed, her family took my daughter away from me. I don't know if she's well, or whether she's happy. Once they took her, I never saw her again."
He was breathing heavily and swallowed a few times, blinking back tears. Peter walked up to them and quietly handed the marine a tissue, but said nothing. This was between his son and his lover, not for him to get involved in. Equally quiet, he walked away and left the livingroom, to check on his grandchildren.
"Oh," Nathan whispered, "I didn't know. I'm so sorry." He held out his arms and pulled Jayden back into an embrace, kissing his forehead. "We'll get through this," he promised, "together. Though the commander implied you can take care of yourself, I still need to emphasize the need for you to be careful. We don't know how knowledgeable these people are, and how much they know about me personally." He paused. "Still, I fear for my daughter's life."
"We'll get through this," Jayden repeated, smiling wanly. "I love you."
Nathan smiled back. "And I you," he replied, then picked up the phaser. "I better learn quick," he commented, examining the weapon. "I only know where to find the wide beam setting."
"I'll show you." And Jayden did, once security arrived to guard the rest of the Van Breughel family.

"Mastering one's mind is an extremely difficult task even for a Vulcan," Matt said understanding the young ensign's desire to be at peace. Even though he long ago stopped trying, Matt would look into his Vulcan studies once again," I hope you reconsider Ensign. This Vulcan was clearly very special to you but I know that he would want you to "go beyond" your present abilities.

Hearing Valad Tavik speak made Matthew Reynolds realize how messed up he really was at that age. Academics, athletics, and friends had always come easy to him. As he looked back at his Academy days, Matt realized how much of a jackass he really was. Instead of trying to better himself, all he cared about was going out with friends and having fun. Things had only changed when Matt entered Section 47 and his first mission on board the Hanson. When people's lives depend on your actions all the fun and easy going attitude immediately dissappear.
“Captain, the device is ready to be brought online.”
"If you keep this up, we'll have to call you Lieutenant in no time," Matt said as he brought the Polaric Neutralization Beam online. Matt immediately inspected the work done by Valad and found it to be quality work," computer install the new subroutines under file Reynolds Neutralization Alpha One."
"Installation will take three minutes and fifteen seconds"
"Once the installation is complete please begin scanning the entire area," Matt said," the new upgrades should extend the beam's range by a few hundred thousands kilometers. Commander is something wrong?"

Valad said nothing as he finished modifying the computer. Once everything checked out, he informed the Captain. “Captain, the device is ready to be brought online.”
"If you keep this up, we'll have to call you Lieutenant in no time," the Captain said as he brought the Polaric Neutralization Beam online. Valad nodded in thanks as the Captain issued an order to the computer. ”Computer install the new subroutines under file Reynolds Neutralization Alpha One."
"Installation will take three minutes and fifteen seconds," the computer responded.
"Once the installation is complete please begin scanning the entire area," Captain Reynolds said," the new upgrades should extend the beam's range by a few hundred thousands kilometers. Commander is something wrong?"
Valad quickly looked up to see what was wrong.

Looking back at his captain he wasn't sure what to tell him for the moment. The course heading was a very round about way to get back to star base. Then again they could be just trying to confuse senors reading on anybody who might have time to follow them. He closed his eyes again and focused and blocked everybody out. He was looking for something anything and he found it, the alien ship was trying to fool senors by crossing over its own warp trail. He was lucky they were still running with cloak.
with his eyes still closed he plotted there next course it was heading into open space. He kept them closed and and kept focused not wanting to loose the trail. He was getting impression off the cloak the energy pattern was becoming more noticeable. " Captain there running with a older version of a Romulan Cloak. Its drawing alot of energy. We should be able to catch up to them with in the hour unless the drop cloak and divert power back into the warp drive. I dont think they will they don't seem to feel safe yet" <Tag Reynolds>
" sorry about earlier they were criss crossing there own warp trail it was hard to pick out the one to follow its taking a lot of energy to focus. If we don't catch up soon I'm going to wear out it takes a lot to focus on energy pattern more so when we are trying to catch up with a cloak ship but its the cloak that I'm following."

Valad looked up as the Captain respod to the look on Commader Pride's face. He look distant, almost confused. "Captain there running with a older version of a Romulan Cloak. Its drawing alot of energy. We should be able to catch up to them with in the hour unless the drop cloak and divert power back into the warp drive. I dont think they will they don't seem to feel safe yet." Valad tried to scan for his readings with the normal ship scanners. Where are you?, Bolan thought as he searched for anything indicating a ship. He was searching on a wide dispersal band that all around the ship at once.
"Sorry about earlier. They were criss crossing there own warp trail. It was hard to pick out the one to follow. Its taking a lot of energy to focus. If we don't catch up soon I'm going to wear out it takes a lot to focus on energy pattern more so when we are trying to catch up with a cloak ship but its the cloak that I'm following." That gave Valad an idea.
"Commander. If we were to use a confined beam instead of a wide dispersal beam and sigularly search around us like a search light, do you think you might be able to sense an energy reading as the beam passes through it?"
(Desert)
"I think its worth a try, Captain. With your permission, I'd like to scan using a confined bandwidth and see if that turns anything up.
(Matt)
Valad raced over the controlls, hoping Commander Pride could find something. Anything.

Heading down the corridor, Marina was still feeing rather cheerful, even though the forensic teams had found no evidence from whoever had been in the morgue, but evidence had proven that the body had been destroyed rather than stolen. Ensign Orlov seemed to think that the weapon found earlier by a repair team might have been used to vaporize the victim, but they wouldn’t know that absolutely until the evidence was compared. However, that wasn’t the new security officer’s problem to deal with, but as she continued to move towards her destination, what she knew so far bounced around in her mind. She didn’t have all the evidence, information, or background history, and for a moment wished Megan was here to try and goad for information, even if there was no way to know for sure if her sister would share it.
The investigator in her was dying to know everything and try to piece it all together, but for now, she had another assignment to deal with, one she wasn’t exactly thrilled to have. Still, Marina was a professional and would follow orders. As she arrived at the door, the new Ensign smiled professionally at the two men stationed on either side before sighing deeply, squaring her shoulders, and ringing the chime. The door slid open to reveal an older human male in civilian’s clothes, and smiling politely, the security officer spoke first. “Hello, Sir, I’m Ensign Garrett, and I’m here to check up on Doctor...van Breughel and um...the kids. May I come in?”
<Tag Peter>
“Thank you,” she replied as she stepped into the quarters feeling uncomfortable. She barely knew Nathan, didn’t even know the names of his children, and was still feeling a bit awkward about the incident with Jayden. She understood it didn’t really have anything to do with her, but her ego was still a bit bruised. As the two men entered the room, however, her professional pride kicked in, and she put on a brave face. “Hello Doctor, Corporal, Security sent me to check in with all of you and the kids. I’m also here to make sure you don’t need any additional help at all.”

Still enjoying the trip and the mindless work, Megan was none the less keeping an eye on what was happening. ‘Drunk driving’ was certainly an apt metaphor for their course, as their headings seemed to zigzag from port to starboard as well as bow to stern. However, she had been warned and trusted the helmsman, knowing his senses were probably more difficult to quantify than simple sensor readings. The further along they got, the more traces of trails the Sommers began to pick up, and they were very confusing. The closer they got and the stronger the paths became, the more difficult it was to distinguish coming and going. It seemed that the people they were chasing were working to cover their tracks, and rather well at that. The first officer knew she could manage to sort out the trails and discover where they were actually going, but that would take time, so she hoped that Commander Pride would be able to provide them with a better, faster option, so as long as he set a course with the Seraph, Commander Garrett would pilot the Sommers to follow him.
After milling around in circles for what felt like a very long time, the Seraph took off in another direction with Megan close behind. After a few minutes without a course change, Commander Garrett began to see the strengthening patterns of weaving and overlapping trails thin out. It seemed they had not only found the true course, but they were catching up. “Sommers to Seraph, I’ve got a solid lock on the trail of the ship we are following on sensors,” the first officer reported, quickly bringing up charts of upcoming systems and sectors hoping to see something that could be their destination. Unfortunately, two hours from their previous position, she saw it.
“One of the systems up ahead contains a starbase that is a notorious stop for a variety of criminal activities. My guess is they’re heading there. We should try and catch up with them before they arrive if possible. It’d be fairly easy for them to get lost among all the other ships and trails leading to and away from the base.” After running a few quick calculations, it seemed highly unlikely that either the Sommers or the Seraph would be able to catch up in time, but Megan was already thinking ahead of the best way to go about this. Any Federation shuttlecraft that arrived at a base like this would be met with immediate suspicion, so it would be very difficult, not only to blend in and avoid making a scene, but also to gain any cooperation.
With her stealth systems, Commander Garrett realized she could disguise her ship as just about anything, but that would mean letting information about one of the top secret systems on her ship slip, unless she could just find another way... “Captain, I have an idea. I don’t think we’re going to catch them before we get there, and if we pull up in either the Seraph or the Sommers, and especially both, we will gain too much attention at a place like this. The Seraph would never go unnoticed, but the Sommers...looks more standard, and if damaged could easily pass as stolen.”
Getting more excited about her idea by the minute, Megan continued. “If the Seraph were to fire a few shots across the hull, no one would ask any questions, and we could continue to investigate on the station with someone remaining behind with the yacht receiving sensor telemetry from the Sommers and providing a backup.” Commander Garrett had pulled off undercover missions like this numerous times and was actually thrilled at the prospect of doing it again. “What do you think, Sir?”

“Hello, Sir, I’m Ensign Garrett, and I’m here to check up on Doctor...van Breughel and um...the kids. May I come in?”
Peter van Breughel stepped aside to let the girl in. “I'm Doctor Van Breughel,” he answered with a slight smile, “well one of them. I take it you are looking for my son?” He followed her inside and allowed her to have a look around, after all, she was security and here to check up on them, most likely.
At that moment, the door opened again and Nathan and Jayden came walking back in, walking slightly apart. They stopped as they spotted Marina. “I'm going to check on the kids,” Jayden whispered, squeezing the doctor's hand in encouragement. He nodded politely to Marina, before entering the children's bedroom.
“Hello Doctor, Corporal, Security sent me to check in with all of you and the kids. I’m also here to make sure you don’t need any additional help at all.”
“Jayden just instructed me in the use of this,” Nathan replied, showing her his standard issue phaser. “At least now I can actually hit a target...somewhat.” He looked up, meeting her gaze. “Actually, there may be something you could help me with. Especially with Jayden having arranged assignment to stay with the children, or with me.”
He paused, nodding towards the bedroom. “The children are fine. Freddy knows something is going on but he's too young to understand what. Angel obviously has no clue whatsoever, all she cares about is being fed and a clean diaper.” He chuckled softly, before becoming all serious again.
“A few weeks ago, Brigadier Hrisvalar, this ship's former commanding officer, ordered that I should undergo self defense training, so that what has happened will not happen again. My latest experience on Dorvan proves once again that I lack certain skills, shall we say. Circumstances have not yet allowed for me to undergo this training, but with my family being threatened, I strongly feel the need to do it now.”
His face took on a look of pure loathing. “I hate having to do it, I'll admit that. I'm a doctor, I should be healing people, not harming them. But I can't stand by and let my family be hurt, what sort of father would I be if I did?” He hesitated, looking at her in earnest, knowing that his father was stood nearby and even Jayden would know how he felt. “Can you arrange this training? Preferably right now.”
This time, Jayden approached. “Aren't you forgetting something dear?” he asked pointedly, one eyebrow raised.
“None that I know of,” the doctor replied, not liking where this was going.
“As you wish,” Jayden acquiesced, “I believe your son is awake, you should go check up on him. And Angel needs another feeding. I've programmed the replicator, it should be hot now.”
When Nathan walked away, Jayden beckoned Marina to come a little closer. He could see Peter's somewhat disapproving look, but he was certain his partner's father would understand what he was about to do. “He won't tell you himself,” he continued, once Nathan was out of earshot, “and he won't let you know until it's too late.” He hesitated. “Nathan has a heart condition, so far I know he's suffered one major attack and two mild ones. He has a history of overtaxing himself when he thinks it's important to do so. Please, he must not know that I told you of this, but you should let anyone who's going to train him know. But they mustn't let him know that they do, or it'll hurt him more than you can understand. I just don't want to see him get hurt again, I nearly lost him the last time.”
At that point, Nathan came back, carrying the baby in his arms. “Jayden, I understand that Major Johnson has a copy of that encrypted message...”
“I'll see if he can tell you what's in it.”
“He had better, the content of that message belongs to me. It was, after all, addressed to me, wasn't it?” He watched as Jayden walked up to him. “Are you going to call him now?”
The marine nodded and tapped his combadge. “Corporal Mitchell to Major Johnson. I understand you received a copy of a decrypted message that was originally addressed to Doctor Van Breughel. He would like to get his message back now, in a readable fashion please.”

“I’m in the shuttlebay about to depart on an away mission,” Megan replied, feeling strangely torn like she wanted to be in two places at once.
J’Varr T’Ress frowned, his tail faltering to the ground quickly, “I really need to get this out to you now. There is no other option, murr. I really have to get back to a lot of other tasks here in engineering. Time is of the essence, and I am sure the command staff is about to play a requirement deadline on me for the time until our full warp capacity – something we currently do not have.”
“Go ahead and send the decrypted message to the Sommers,” she requested, turning her attention to a side screen to her left. As the message popped up and the first officer scanned it, a chill descended down her spine.
J’Varr frowned quickly, looking down to the console, “Well, you are going to have to send Sommers down here then, because I really need someone to actually look at this with eyeballs, not just over the comlink, Merrow.”
“Get right on that trace, Commander. We need to know as much as possible about its origin; forward anything you find to the Sommers, the Seraph, and Major Johnson. Also, keep working on those engines, Garrett out.”
“I am not forwarding anything; that is a breech of security. Surely, you of all…ah, this is a sort of test? Well, Commander,” his tail again fell as he spoke, “I am certainly not going to fail it. I am not going to proceed with any work until Sommers is here. This is really a lousy time for a drill, murr.”

“Jayden just instructed me in the use of this,” Nathan replied, holding up a phaser. “At least now I can actually hit a target…somewhat. Actually, there may be something you could help me with, especially with Jayden having arranged assignment to stay with the children or with me.” Glancing back toward the direction Jayden had left, the doctor added. “The children are fine. Freddy knows something is going on but he's too young to understand what. Angel obviously has no clue whatsoever. All she cares about is being fed and a clean diaper,” he quipped chuckling softly.
Getting back on point, Doctor van Breughel continued. “A few weeks ago, Brigadier Hrisvalar, this ship's former commanding officer, ordered that I should undergo self defense training, so that what had happened would not happen again. My latest experiences on Dorvan proved, once again, that I lack certain skills, shall we say. Circumstances have not yet allowed for me to undergo this training, but with my family being threatened, I strongly feel the need to do it now,” Nathan maintained.
Sighing, he added. “I hate having to do it, I'll admit that. I'm a doctor. I should be healing people, not harming them. But I can't stand by and let my family be hurt; what sort of father would I be? Can you arrange this training, preferably right now?”
Before Marina could reply, Jayden reappeared. “Aren't you forgetting something, dear?” the Marine insisted. The security officer suddenly felt uncomfortable again, and let them speak quietly to each other for a moment wishing she could retreat.
When the doctor left, Ensign Garrett felt suddenly trapped as Jayden walked back towards her and motioned for her to move closer, but she tried not to show it. “He won't tell you himself, and he won't let you know until it's too late, but Nathan has a heart condition; so far I know he's suffered one major attack and two mild ones. He has a history of overtaxing himself when he thinks it's important to do so. Please, he must not know that I told you of this, but you should let anyone who's going to train him know. But they mustn't let him know that they know, or it'll hurt him more than you can understand. I just don't want to see him get hurt again. I nearly lost him the last time,” the Marine requested with pleading eyes keeping his voice low
“Jayden, I understand that Major Johnson has a copy of that encrypted message,” Nathan began as he reentered the room. Marina stepped back to let them talk, but made brief eye contact with Jayden and nodded to communicate she understood.
While they talked about some message, the security officer debated what to do. It made sense to help the doctor learn self defense skills, and she had even offered to help him earlier. It worried her that he had heart issues, and she didn’t like the whole awkward tension thing with Jayden, but Marina knew that personal should not affect professional, or at least be kept as separate as possible. Because of this, Ensign Garrett stayed quietly out of the way while the issue with the message was discussed, knowing that once they were finished, she would agree to help him out.
Several minutes later, and it seemed like whatever issue with a message they were talking about was solved, so Marina stepped forward again. “I’d be happy to help you with your training, Doctor. If you’re ready now, we can head to the holodeck, where I think you should start with phaser target practice…for the safety of us all...”
