As Daniel woke up he was relieved to find he could move his legs, getting up he walked over to the mirror at the side of the room. Looking at himself he noted the bump on his head ‘must have dreamed it’ feeling silly for letting a dream to worrying him Daniel went and got changed into a new uniform before he heard the comm.. =/\= Commander Blakus to Counsellor Biers, are you well enough to come to the bridge?=/\= Daniel took a few seconds to find his comm. badge “I am sir, i will be up there when i can”. Andae seemed pleased with the response as he closed the channel, Daniel continued to collect his stuff so that he could go to the bridge before he got into trouble when Evan walked through the door “Ahh your awake, was a bit worried about you, you sure you are okay to work today? I am sure i can get someone to cover your workload” Daniel knew Evan was only trying to make him feel better but he wanted to get back to work “Yes i am sure Evan, i will not be doing anything massive, i will simply go to the bridge and fill out paperwork and help the first officer, is that okay for you?” Daniel watched as Evan thought it over, he smiled and moved over to kiss Daniel “Of course it is, but i really want you to think about getting a new assignment, these ship missions seem to want to kill you” Daniel hugged Evan “Yes i will think about it, for you, now get back to work before i have you given double duty” Daniel smiled to Evan who looked worried “I am joking about the last bit but get going” Daniel turned Evan around and gave him a small push towards the door “Okay okay i am going” Evan left the room leaving Daniel on his own, moving over to the desk Daniel picked up a Padd that was on the desk with a form on the screen, complete and waiting to be sent.

Short and sweet and he could not decide if he wanted to send it or not. Holding it Daniel walked out the room and began to make his way to the Bridge.
As Daniel arrived on the bridge he looked around the bridge for Andae, after a few moments he noted that only two senior officers were on the bridge, Ensign Warren and Captain Torek. Daniel had arrived to late to hear what had happened but he did hear the captain speak to the tactical officer on duty "Keep a lock on them Mister Evens." Carl said the the duty Tactical Officer.
"Got a solid lock Sir." she replied Daniel assumed that they must have sent an away mission to somewhere and the XO would be there, walking around to the command chair Daniel took his normal seat before speaking “Captain, can i ask what has happened, i am afraid being knocked out has a gift for keeping you out of the loop, particularly for counsellors”.
<Tag Carl>
-- As Daniel woke up his second half also woke, angered that he had lost control of the body by resting he made a mental note never again to fall asleep when he had control. He watched as Daniel began to dress himself and then talk to Evan, ‘I would kill him just for the fun of it, he is so stupid to allow himself to be so weak before me’ but as he watched he could do nothing but watch again, like it had been for so long, since when he was created by Professor Gaast. But he had to be patient, he had finally gained control even if it was only for 20 minutes. Next time it would be forever and then the games can begin.

While the bridge waited for further contact from the away crew, Lewis watched Daniel Biers enter the bridge. He felt he would have to speak to him soon, and get to his colleague as had been not much chance before he was moved to sickbay. lewis also wondered how he was although wouldn't ask outright.
Before Lewis could walk over and get another to relieve him for a few minutes, Daniel Biers spoke to the Captain.
“Captain, can i ask what has happened, i am afraid being knocked out has a gift for keeping you out of the loop, particularly for counsellors”.
After the conversation was over Lewis smiled and gained eye contact with the counsellor as he walked over. "hi i'm Lewis Warren, you probably already know that. how are you feeling?"

Carl watched the ship on the massive view-screen, but he was distracted by a newcomer to the Bridge .. Commander Biers stepped out of the turbo-lift and stopped dead in his tracks. He looked round the Bridge as if in confusion as to whether he was supposed to be here of not. Torek watched the man carefully. Not wanting to show concern, but keeping the Councellor in his line of sight .. Just in case .. He'd suffered a knock on the head that could cause problems later, but the man seemed OK as he took his seat at the outer rim of the Command area. "Captain .. Can I ask what has happened .. I am afraid being knocked out has a gift for keeping you out of the loop. Particularly for Counsellors." Torek brought him up to speed on the situation so far, while not failing to notice the PADD Biers had 'haphazardly' set down between them ... 'On purpose ?' Carl wondered. "How is your workload Daniel ?" Carl asked, noticing a heading including his name on the PADD and picking it up from the Exec's seat where Daniel had 'placed' it .. "I'm ... Coping." Biers said, too late to prevent his CO from picking up the PADD. Carl highlighted the entry including his name, and was admittedly shocked at what he read ... Will made his way into the catacomb that the rest of the soaked away team was in. At first he stared around dumbfoundly because the room was filled with "junk". If what they needed was in here, he wondered how they would ever figure out which item it was. He began to approach the XO.
"I've lost my comm badge sir." he said as if he were disappointed. "Any idea which peace of this mess we're after?"
<Tag Blakus>
After getting his answer, he set off to begin digging through one of the piles off to the right side of the chamber.
"If I didn't know better," he began, "I would think this was an Orion storage room. Who collects this much stuff and than hides it behind a secret wall like something valuable? If what we're looking for has so much power, it has got to stick out from this junk."

"Anything interesting sir?"
"I think so, Commander." Blakus replied, looking ahead at the source of light now revealed in all its glory. Blakus had ordered Lieutenant Moore and one of the security guards forward to analyse the device in front of them, to first ascertain whether it was in fact the rift device they needed and second to see if it worked. He'd sent the other security guard in search of Commander Jamison, who had just now returned. "Did you have a good trip around the ship, Commander?" Blakus asked the Security Chief off-hand, keeping his gaze transfixed on the light ahead.
<Tag>
The light source was emanating from an interesting and highly technical looking construction, sitting atop a pedestal which was itself about a metre in height. Lieutenant Moore stood by it with a tricorder in his hand, shaking his head. The security guard was actively moving around it, peering at it closely, searching for something seemingly.
"Lieutenant Moore, report." Blakus said as he approached the pair.
"Sir," Moore said, "This is definitely the rift device we are looking for, but it is not working."
"What do you mean?"
"I mean it's malfunctioning. We think we can fix it but we're missing one essential component, and I'm not sure what it's supposed to look like."
"Oh, brilliant." Blakus said, kicking a piece of rubble into the room's corner. He was about to ask why it wouldn't be working, but he stopped himself. The answer to that question was obvious just from looking around the room. There were piles of debris scattered everywhere in the place, created by the Raven's attack. It hadn't been immediately visible because the room was so dark, only the device itself offered any kind of illumination.
"I've lost my commbadge sir," Jamison called from behind them. The CTSO was still getting his bearings back it seemed. "Any idea which piece of this mess we're after?"
Blakus rolled his eyes and pointed in the general direction of the device. "Well, the technology on this pedestal here," he said, "Along with a small piece of it that has gone missing, probably shaken loose by your phaser shots."
Moore chuckled a little as he read the data on his tricorder, but stifled the grin as Blakus shot him a dirty look. After a moment's dithering the team set about trying to find what they needed to complete the device, the question was though: where to start? Jamison commented that it was bound to stick out from the general debris if it was that important. Blakus was inclined to agree, and then it occurred to him.
The XO spoke slowly, "I think I might have just kicked it," he said.
"What?" Moore asked.
Without repeating his utterance, Blakus scampered to where he had earlier kicked what he had believed was general rubble. It didn't take him long to find it. He held it up to the light, indeed it looked important. In a way, it was his earlier frustration that had owed to his finding of this piece of the device. Smiling with the irony, Blakus made his way back over to Moore.
"This is it, Lieutenant. Do you think you can get this thing working now?"
"Yes to both, sir. It looks like we may need some pattern enhancers to transport this 'thing' though.." Moore answered while studying the integral piece that Blakus had handed him. Satisfied that the job was done, Blakus prepared the team to beam back to the Raven.
"Moore, stay with the device and set up the pattern enhancers, you and it can beam back to the ship separately." Moore nodded. "The rest of you are with me." =/\=Blakus to Raven,=/\= the XO called. He, Jamison and the two security stepped away from Lieutenant Moore. =/\=Four to beam back.=/\= The transporter of the USS Raven took most of the away team in its cool grasp.
"Thank you..." Blakus muttered as he stepped off the transporter pad. The two guards made their way out of the room, leaving just Blakus and the CTSO. "I appreciated your assistance on this away mission, Commander." Blakus said to him evenly, "Return to the bridge."
As Jamison made his way to the door the transporter chief spoke, "Commander Blakus, I'm getting some odd readings from the other ship."
"Elaborate," Blakus ordered, suddenly he was back in mission-mode. He joined the transporter chief behind his console. Commander Jamison paused by the door and then came back into the room. Blakus held up his hand to the CTSO, acknowledging that he should stay for now.
"I was about to begin transporting Lieutenant Moore back with the device when I got a sudden spike on my sensors," the chief said, working the console with poignant curiosity. "I'm reading a very high count of chronit-" A sudden harsh crackling came through on the transporter console, a communication..
=/\=Raven, this is Lieutenant Moore! The device is... working. I didn't do anything.. I can see - =/\= The channel abruptly cut-off.
"Sir," the chief said, "That room you were in on the other ship.. it's reading very funny." Blakus looked at the console, he too could not believe what he was seeing. "If I had to guess, I would say it is passing in and out of our space-time continuum, and with increasing levels of flux too."
Blakus looked up at Jamison who was still watching things unfold, "Get to the bridge, find out what's going on," the XO ordered.
<Tag Jamison>
Assimilating the rest of the information, Blakus tapped his commbadge. =/\=Bridge, this is Blakus. Captain, are you reading anything that looks suspiciously like that rift the ship fell through earlier?=/\= He was already on his way to the door as he asked it. Two minutes later, he entered the bridge...

"Sir ... There's some kind of energy build-up on the ship." the duty Science Officer said. "Confirmed."Marcus said moving from Opps to the Science station. "Are the team in any sort of danger ?" Torek asked, sitting forward in his seat, "Stand-by to beam them out of there. Lock weapons on the ship." Carl would destroy the enemy vessel rather than risk any more damage to the Raven. The ship had gone through more than enough in the last few months. "Comm from Commander Blakus." Jake said, opening the channel. =^= Blakus to Raven ... Four to beam back =^= Carl simply nodded for Marcus to confirm and get his people back, he was watching the ship intently, looking for the first sign that they could be in trouble. "It's GOT to be the rift technology thats powering up." Marcus said. =^= Bridge .. This is Blakus .. Captain are you reading anything that looks suspiciously like that rift the ship fell through earlier ? =^= =^= Yes Commander ...... =^= Carl began, then continued as the Exec' stepped from the turbo-lift and took his seat, "...... We noticed the power up a few moments ago. I'm guessing it's the equipment that brought us here. You got it working." "Not exactly ..." Andae said, "We were about to, we were searching for a part in the rubble when it began a power up sequence. I left Lieutenant Moore over there to set up pattern enhancers to get both him and the rift system back to the Raven. Suddenly, the screen burst into brightness that the computer just managed to correct for, otherwise anyone looking at the view-screen at the time would have been instantly, permanently blinded. "What the He ...... !" Carl began. "Sir. A rift has opened directly ahead of us." Marcus said, back at Opps. "Where's the ship ?" someone said puzzled. "There's no sign of it." the Science Officer said, "There's a possibility it went through as the rift formed, and is on the other side awaiting our arrival. I would say that Lieutenant Moore is also there waiting. If he knows he has passed through a newly formed rift, he may be trying to get some sort of signal through to us." "Where exactly 'IS' the other side ?" Torek voiced the words the Bridge were thinking, while silently hoping his Officer was safe and well. It was quiet for a few seconds until Ensign Dent at the Science station could check ... The answer was less than reassuring ... "We have no idea of knowing Sir. But wherever it is, there is every chance it is closer to home." 'There again it could be taking them light-years further away from their own galaxy, and traveling home from here at maximum warp could possibly take a very long time' Carl thought, but Blakus had thought of that option too. "Is there a stable opening at the other end ?" he asked Dent, then pointed out his thinking to Torek as the Ensign checked, "We should take the chance that we will find a familiar system on our scanners Captain. Sitting here, we have no way of knowing which direction, let alone a time-scale for heading back." "The termination point is stable, but there's no way I can get any data through, so we'd be flying blind, so to speak." the woman finished quietly. Carl tapped a control on the arm of his seat and spoke .. =^= Bridge to Engineering =^= =^= McLean Captain =^= =^= Scott .. What's our status down there ? =^= =^= You have all the power you need Captain .. We have plenty in reserve if needed =^= =^= I may need to hold you to that Scott =^= There was a satisfied laugh over the Comm before the Chief Engineer replied. =^= Have I ever let you down Captain .. Engineering out =^= Carl gave their situation some thought, and to his credit, the Exec' remained quiet allowing him time to think. It wasn't as if there were multitudes of options really, Carl knew full well that it was simply a go/stay situation, but the fact he now had crew on the other side swayed his decision somewhat .. "Raise shields .. Impulse engines .. Take us into the rift Mister Warren." "Aye Captain." Jake said, repeating the orders. "It could get rough Ensign, so be ready for the unexpected." Blakus advised. Slowly the rift filled the screen ...... It was astonishing how big it had got in only moments. It would swallow the massive Galaxy Class ship easily. =^= Engineering to Bridge .. I've increased Inertial dampers to one hundred and twenty percent .. Increased the artificial gravity to the same so you may feel heavier but it will help if were hit harder than expected =^= =^= Thank you Engineering =^= Blakus replied as the ship neared the rift horizon. "Ten seconds ....." Marcus said, "Five seconds ..... Three ..... Two ..... One." .......... < tag: ALL > Come on everyone, we're buzzing now

Traks sat at his desk going over the injury reports and making notations for follow up treatments. As the countdown from the bridge reached ten, Traks got up and entered sick bay...."Ok people heads up and hold on to something solid. Things could get a little bumpy."
4..3..2..1.. The lights in sick bay flickered as the floor began to jump and shake; "Here we go again."

Will was almost out the door when the transporter chief spoke.
"Commander Blakus, I'm getting some odd readings from the other ship."
He watched as the XO joined the chief behind the console and listened to the explanation.
The XO looked up at Will. "Get to the bridge, find out what's going on."
"Aye, sir." Will answered as he ran out the door.
The turbolift doors opened just in time for Will to here the Ops officers comment. "Sir. A rift has opened directly ahead of us."
He quickly moved to his tactical station.
As someone questioned the whereabouts of the vessel that Will had just been on, he cast a glance at the view screen to notice for the first time that it was missing.
The Raven was being pulled toward the rift and seemed as if they didn't have any choice but to enter. Everyone started making preparations.
"Raise shields .. Impulse engines .. Take us into the rift Mister Warren."
"Shields raised and holding at full, sir." Will acknowledge.
A few seconds later, they were entering the rift. Remembering what had happened the first time, Will tried to steel himself against from getting knocked on his [word deleted] again.
The Raven began shaking violently once it entered the rift. Will found it very difficult to hold his footing as he watched several others on the bridge loose theirs. "Med team to the bridge." Will ordered.
Once the Raven was completely emerged in the rift, the shaking calmed down and was no where near as violent as the first time through. Will checked his console.
"Just like the last time, sir." he began. "we aren't getting any readings at the moment on any instruments."

As the captain brought Daniel up to speed on what had happened in his absence, Daniel noted the glance of the captain to the Padd he had place on the seat next to him while he lowered himself into the next seat "How is your workload Daniel ?" Carl asked Daniel knew Carl had noted the Padd and by the look on his face had noted his name on the Padd Daniel did not have enough time to move it without seeming to be hiding anything so simple commented in response to the question "I'm ... Coping." As Carl took the Padd Daniel prepared for what might happen. "Care to comment ?" Daniel looked at his captain before he responded “At this moment, no, i have not made up my mind on sending that, and it has nothing to do with you or the ship before you worry” Before Carl could respond they were joined by an ensign, Carl obviously still wanted to talk about it but not in front of another officer. "hi i'm Lewis Warren, you probably already know that. how are you feeling?" Daniel thought for a moment to try and work out if he knew him, then remembering the new crew list he responded “Ah yes the new Chief Navigation officer, I am fine now that i am not being thrown around the bridge” Daniel laughed a little before he saw the look on the ensign’s face “Do not worry ensign, you could not have avoided that rift, nor the whole throwing half the staff around bit.” Daniel was about to start a conversation with the ensign, as it was rare for one to start talking to a counsellor willingly but Daniel heard some raise their voice from the science station. "Sir ... There's some kind of energy build-up on the ship." the duty Science Officer said.
"Confirmed."Marcus said moving from Opps to the Science station.
"Are the team in any sort of danger ?" Torek asked, sitting forward in his seat, "Stand-by to beam them out of there. Lock weapons on the ship." Daniel stopped listening at the point, turning to the young ensign “I think you should return to you station ensign, this may require some fancy flying knowing this ships running luck” Daniel grinned before turning to listen in to the growing concern in people’s voices. =^= Have I ever let you down Captain .. Engineering out =^=

Daniel had tried to steel himself up for the impending rough ride but once again as the bridge came back into focus he was on the floor with his rank pips half way towards the turbo lift. Getting himself upright, he was thankful to see he was not the only one to find themselves on the floor “Captain, i think we need to add those ... oh what did they call them ... seat pelts, you know those things they used back in the 21st century to hold themselves in a vehicle in case of an accident” Daniel was mostly joking as he picked up his pips and tried to put them back onto his collar that was not broken. Daniel looked up at the view screen which looked a mess, but was already clearing, slowly but still becoming more of a solid object a large solid object in fact, unless the zoom had been messed up en-route. Daniel began looking around the bridge, most were checking on each other for injuries and such and a few were trying to keep a few consoles under control, moving to his own consol he smelt a odd scent coming from the consol, when he noted the smoke slowly coming out of the back he turned to a nearby engineer “you may wish to check this consol as well, preferably before it explodes”.
As the engineers continued to work Daniel watched the View screen as it finally cleared itself to show a small ship and a large planet behind. As Daniel looked at the planet it looked vaguely like earth, but it could not be as there were no city lights or space docks, ‘close but not right, wonder where we are’ Daniel heard James, Carl and Andae speaking about where they were so Daniel turned to listen in.

The Raven approached the rifts event horizon and began to shake violently. The view-screen image splintered into a thousand smaller images as it struggled to cope with what it was seeing.
Several of the Bridge consoles began to suffer too and the Councellor was thrown forward in his seat. Torek and Blakus managed to hold on to theirs, but the vibrations became worse at they passed through the vortex. The ship began to roll to port, moving through almost four hundred degrees, before slowing to a stop and reversing direction. Pitch and yaw stresses were exceeding design limits by larger margins every second.
"SIR !" Ensign Marcus shouted over the noise, "We will break up if the stresses increase any more !"
Carl looked at Andae, but both knew there was nothing they could do now, it was in the hands of fate as to whether they came out the other side or perished here and now.
Both men could see Lewis Warren working hard to correct their wild direction changes. Sweat was pumping freely from his forehead and he continually wiped it away with his sleeve before making yet another alteration.
As suddenly as it had begun, the shaking began to subside .. The Raven leveled off, and almost blinded by the flash of light, they exited the rift ...
The screen slowly cleared, and they could see a small vessel ahead of them.
"The ship is dead Captain .. No life-signs." Ensign Dent reported from the Science station.
"What about that !" Blakus said, pointing at the planet below ... It looked like Earth, but that was impossible, the odds of the rift opening up and depositing them in Earth orbit, were incalculable.
"Nothing .. No life-signs .. 'M' Class planet. Oxygen atmosphere similar to Earth." Dent continued, "There are mineral deposits we could possibly use, but other than that ......"
"Begin full scans." Blakus said.
"Mister Jamison." Carl said, turning to the Tactical Officer, "Get full scans of this region of space. Ensure we are alone ... See if there is anything recognizable in the ships' database. We need to find a way home."
"Aye Sir. beginning scans now." Will confirmed.
Andae tapped a Comm button and spoke.
=^= Exec to all departments .. Damage reports to me as soon as you have them .. Out =^=
"Put us in standard orbit Mister Warren." Carl said, "Well done on keeping us in one piece Ensign."
Lewis grinned for an instant before moving the massive ship smoothly into orbit around the unknown sphere below ..........

The Raven was rocked savagely by the tidal forces of the rift. With the ship tumbling along on all three axis, it was all Ensign Warren could do from keeping the ship from being shorn apart with the structural stress. Silently pulled into the rift, the Raven was heading for destruction.
On the bridge, the command team of Captain Torek and Commander Blakus managed to stay in their seats as the ship (seemed to be) falling apart around them. Blakus was vaguely aware of Counsellor Biers, sitting on the other side of him to the Captain, getting thrown to the floor. The XO was ashamedly more concerned about stopping himself falling from his chair.
It was not long before the vibrations of the ship became so bad, that Blakus could not bear to look at the viewscreen. For whatever he may have seen on it, may have blew his mind.. and his sanity. Surely it would make him lose all hope that they would be able to escape.. Consoles started exploding in their customary fashion around him, smoke was rising from the underside of their black-sheened surfaces. By then the whole bridge, every surface, every piece of furniture every crystal display screen was reverberating, resonating with the frequencies of vibration being directed their way. Is this it..our deaths at last? Blakus thought, Wait, has it not already happened...? . He felt the ache in his arm return again, this time with very great intensity. It was now a sharp, piercing pain. He gasped and reached for his right forearm. What is going on..? he demanded of his self.
"Nothing .. No life-signs .. 'M' Class planet. Oxygen atmosphere similar to Earth." Dent continued, "There are mineral deposits we could possibly use, but other than that ......"
Blakus was standing near the front of the bridge, standing behind the helm manned by Ensign Warren. He let out a deep breath he'd been keeping in for the last few seconds as he looked over the new planet displayed in front of him. "Begin full scans." He ordered, not moving his eyes from the viewscreen.
The bridge officers continued reporting and exchanging information between each other, Blakus returned to his seat next to the Captain's, asked for a ship-wide damage report and then returned to studying the viewscreen.
The Raven slung itself into orbit of the mysterious planetoid. It was similar to Earth, a blue and green globe, with the familiar sheen of starlight reflecting off one of its oceans. Glorious.
So, they were in a star system then, Blakus thought, rubbing his hands together and sitting back in his seat. He would have liked to see some of the statistics of probability regarding this one. Unless it was by design...
Torek was still sitting in his chair. "Captain." Blakus said to him quietly, shifting in his chair to face him, "Depending on the results of the scan of this planet, are we going to be sending an away team?"

"Mister Jamison. Get full scans of this region of space. Ensure we are alone ... See if there is anything recognizable in the ships' database. We need to find a way home."
"Aye Sir. Beginning scans now." Will confirmed as his fingers began inputting the commands. A moment later, the console beeped and after reading the information, Will was left with more questions than answers.
"Sir. According to star alignment charts, this planet should be Dorvan V." he said
"Should be, Commander?" asked Captain Torek.
"Yes, sir. According to Starfleets database, there should be 5 planets here in the Dorvan system with this one being Dorvan 5. It is, or was located in the border region between Federation and Cardassian space and was settled in 2350 by a group of Native Americans from Earth who were worried about losing their traditional culture on an increasingly globalized Earth. The world was part of the Federation until 2370 when it was placed under Cardassian rule by the Federation-Cardassian Treaty." Will answered.
"What about other vessels?" the Captain asked.
"Sorry, sir. No other vessels other than the one in front of us." came the reply. "There's nothing here that matches its configuration."

As Carl was being updated by Commander Jamison he moved to the Science station to check the sensor readings ..
"...... The world was part of the Federation until 2370 when it was placed under Cardassian rule by the Federation-Cardassian Treaty."
"So if this is indeed Dorvan Five, why can't we see any recognizable star systems within range of our sensors ?"
Jamison frowned. The Captain was of course right, he couldn't explain that one, at the moment, but he began to check ..
"There's another inconsistency too." Warren said from the Helm, We've just passed into the night side of our orbit. I'm only detecting three more planets in the system. It's weird."
"According to our database, this 'IS' Dorvan Five ! ...... The mass, surface configuration, everything is consistent with our records." Marcus said, "But there are only four planets, and no sign of a known system. We should be seeing at least three that I know of. We never really kept much of an eye on the Dorvan System, there could have been a catastrophic explosion, destroying one on the planets, or even sending it completely out of the system, But what's the possibility of this being a planet similar to Dorvan rather than the original ?"
"It's possible ......" Jamison said, a little perturbed at possibly being wrong, "But I still say 'this' is Dorvan Five ...... Maybe just not our, Dorvan Five."
Carl made a decision ...
"Andae. Get an away-team ready. I'm reading massive Dilithium deposits just below the surface too, maybe we can get some that McLean is able to refine as back-up .. I'm pretty sure Dorvan didn't have those." Torek mused, still looking at the Science station read-outs, "One thing we need to be cautious of though, I'm worried we could have visitors at any time. When we come round the day side, tractor that ship into a stable orbit then get two Engineers over there. It may be necessary to reform the rift again if we can't find something familiar to aim for."
"Sir." Blakus said, tapping his Comm badge.
Torek came back round to the Command area as Blakus left the Bridge. The planet below rotated serenely as they entered the daylight side.
"We've got the ship in a tractor Captain." Marcus said.
"Stabilize her one thousand meters ahead and release the tractor. She will hold her orbit using her inertia."
Carl watched the planet below as he waited for his Exec' to notify his readiness to beam down ..........

As the other staff traded comments and theories on the mysterious presence of what appeared to be Dorvan V, Blakus was readying himself for the coming away mission. But, his thoughts were not merely in one place, he was also thinking about the possibilities that would explain why Dorvan V was here, replicating the discussion taking place between the others on the bridge. Could it be that this was a Dorvan V of another dimension? Or could it be that the Raven had been displaced to another dimension, and they were now viewing Dorvan V in the presence of other, unknown worlds? Almost as if space had been twisted such that it fitted together in an unexpected pattern, purposely clear for the Raven to view in its new configuration. Before Blakus could debate it any further in his head, Captain Torek was speaking to him: "Andae. Get an away-team ready. I'm reading massive Dilithium deposits below the surface too, maybe we can get some that McLean is able to refine as back-up .. I'm pretty sure Dorvan didn't have those."Blakus nodded and acknowledged the CO's orders as the latter kept talking, this time to Marcus but he did not really end the sentence.. rather he kept talking, drawing words from the stream of thoughts being created in his head. The XO quickly scanned the bridge and picked out his away team. "Jamison and Dent, you're with me." He ordered, indicating for them to follow him. "Jamison feel free to bring some extra security along if you think it's necessary, I won't object," he added. <Tag Jamison> Blakus was heading for the turbolift with his team but he stopped, and slowly turned. "Commander Biers?" he called. The Counsellor looked around, and peered over the tactical console's rail at the XO. Blakus was glad to see the Counsellor recovered, after he'd been knocked to the ground during the Raven's latest rift trip. "What would you say to a trip down to Dorvan, Counsellor?" Biers smiled slightly, and joined the team in the turbolift. Once in the transporter room, the team were joined by two engineers from Commander McLean's team two check for the dilithium, Ensigns Goncalvo and Berst, both carrying excessive amounts of equipment. Blakus couldn't help but notice how much the two looked like Lieutenant Moore. How many more engineers am I going to get through on this mission? Blakus thought morbidly, with a tinge of sarcasm. When all was ready and the team were on the pad, Blakus tapped his commbadge. =/\=Bridge, this is Commander Blakus. We're ready for beam-down.=/\= <Tag Bridge - Torek> "I'm putting you down in one of the more major townships, there seems to be a heavy concentration of dilithium there," the transporter chief told the XO. "There are townships?" Blakus asked, surprised. The chief nodded, "No inhabitants, but all settlements seem intact, it's almost as if they were abandoned." Blakus was frowning as the transporter beams enveloped him and his team, and moments later they were all standing on the face of Dorvan V. Blakus instinctively reached for his tricorder, but moved his hand back to his side when he realised that that was others responsibility now. Ensigns Dent and Goncalvo moved forward, their Starfleet-issue boots clunking on the paved ground. Blakus stood still with Biers and Jamison, taking the place in before doing anything else. They were in what looked like a village square. The stone buildings, surrounding the square on all sides, were simple and appeared utilitarian, although they still gave the place a homely feel. "Engineers, locate the Dilithium," Blakus began distributing orders, "Ensign Dent, you're with Commander Jamison." Blakus looked at the CTSO, "Commander, search out these buildings, see if you can find anything that will give as an idea as to what this place is, whether it's Dorvan V or not, either it or us are not in the place we'd expect." Jamison acknowledged and headed off to a nearby building, accompanied by Dent. "Counsellor," Blakus said to Biers, "You're with me." <Tag Jamison and Biers - OOC: We have some investigating to do people! >

"Jamison and Dent, you're with me. Jamison feel free to bring some extra security along if you think it's necessary, I won't object,"
Before hitting the lift, Will ordered a 3 man security detail to the transporter room. A moment later, they were planet side.
"Engineers, locate the Dilithium. Ensign Dent, you're with Commander Jamison. Commander, search out these buildings, see if you can find anything that will give as an idea as to what this place is, whether it's Dorvan V or not, either it or us are not in the place we'd expect. Counsellor, You're with me."
"Aye, sir." Will replied.
With a nod of his head and a brief, quiet, "Do not let them out of your site." he ordered one of the guards to accompany the XO and the counselor. The other two guards split up and went with the two engineer details. With that done, Will and Ensign Dent headed off toward the buildings.
The first thing Will noticed as they entered the first building was that there were absolutely nothing in it. They went room to room and up several sets of stairs (because there were no lifts) confirming what the tricorder was already telling them. The building was completely empty. This continued on for several buildings until they reached what appeared to be a brig of some sorts. It had turned out to be the only building that was furnished. There was a consle that was completely dead. Bunks in the cells. A replicator on the wall. And when will thought back about it, he didn't even recall holes in the walls of the other buildings where replicators would have been. It was as if the buildings where just thrown up to make it appear as if there was a settlement here.
"How are your engineering skills, Ensign?" Will asked Dent.
"Not very good i'm afraid, sir." was his answer.
"Don't worry. Mine aren't that great either." Will said with a smile as he tapped his communicator. "Jamison to Commander Blakus."
"Blakus here." came the XOs voice.
"Sir. We've found a computer console in one of the buildings but it is completely dead. I don't want to bother the engineer teams that are collecting the dilithium. Do you want me to have the Raven sent me another engineer or do you wanna take a stab at it first, sir?" Will asked. He knew the XO was a former engineer and he thought that he might wanna see if he still had it.

Carl patiently watched the planet as it rotated serenely below them. The away-team should be ready soon, and if nothing else, the Raven may manage to get a supply of dilithium for Scott to work on.
=^= Bridge .. Commander Blakus .. We're ready for beam down =^=
=^= Received Commander .. Hold for one minute .. Lieutenant Marcus is sending beam down co-ordinates to the transporter Chief now =^=
"Got them Sir." the transporter Chief told the Exec', "I'm putting you down in one of the more major townships, there seems to be a heavy concentration of dilithium there,"
"There are townships ?" Andae asked, slightly puzzled. He was expecting wasteland.
=^= Looks like the planet has been abandoned for some time Commander .. But keep focused .. I don't want any nasty surprises OK =^=
=^= Aye Sir =^= Blakus said closing the Comm.
"Energize." he told the Chief, then felt the first signs of the transporter taking hold. Seconds later he squinted his eyes closed against the glare of the sun as they materialized ..........

"Are you alright Counsellor?" Blakus asked Biers, keeping his eyes straight ahead. The two of them were walking in an alley-way in between two-storey buildings on either side. To Blakus, Biers seemed detached and unresponsive, as if he was more caught up with thinking within himself. The XO couldn't blame him actually, he too was deep in thought, however he suspected that his thoughts were not the same.
<Tag>
As the Counsellor responded, the two of them reached an intersection. It seemed to open out into another town square, except beyond this square the buildings grew smaller and sparser in their distribution. The XO and the Counsellor were nearing the edge of the town, which Blakus was starting to realise was more of a village, a very simplistic village. He imagined that it would have been a fairly idyllic place to live while it had still been populated.
Apart from the difference in the buildings, there was very little difference between this square and the last. The whole village seemed almost eerie in its desertion, but not quite. It was quiet, forlorn, the echoes of past times resounding gently off the building's walls. Blakus and Biers stopped when they reached the centre of the square. The XO was suddenly sure there was something more to the name 'Dorvan V' than just what Commander Jamison had reported. Despite its former disputed status, the Dorvan system did have more significance, the Raven's XO just could not put his finger on it.
Before he could ponder it any further though, his commbadge buzzed. It was Jamison.
"A computer console?" Blakus frowned as he replied to Jamison's report. Taking a quick glance at Biers, he decided what to do. He considered getting one of the two engineers over to help Jamison, but the greater part of him looked forward to getting his hands dirty with engineering work again. "OK, we'll be there shortly," he said, "Blakus out."
Minutes later...
"A prison?"
Blakus and Biers, and the security officer the CTSO had assigned, had joined Jamison and Dent in the building. Ensign Dent spoke. "It appears so, sir," she said.
"Assuming this is Dorvan V, do you think it was used by the Cardassians?"
Jamison and Dent both shrugged. Of course, Blakus thought, that was impossible to tell. At least, perhaps, until they got the computer console working again. "Ok.." Blakus muttered as he approached the console. He crouched down underneath and saw that there was a panel that could be removed. Sure enough, given a bit of tinkering and some classic engineer's ingenuity, the XO managed to get the console working again.
"That's got it!" Dent exclaimed, watching the console's display flicker to life.
Feeling fairly pleased with himself, but knowing that he had a mission to get on with, Blakus jumped up from the floor and peered over at the display. It was as he'd thought, the console's graphics were clearly Cardassian in origin. "This confirms it, then." He said to everyone there, a grim expression on his face and in his eyes, not moving his gaze from the Cardassian console. The fact that this was Dorvan V, confirmed for the group that they were indeed not existing in their universe as they knew it, either that or something foreign had been displaced into their own.
"Commander Jamison," Blakus said to the CTSO, "Can you recall anything else from the information you garnered on Dorvan V? I don't know what it is, but I think that there could be something very important that we are missing."
<Tag Jamison>
The XO thought he better update the Captain, =/\=Blakus to Raven. Captain it is confirmed, this is Dorvan V. Right now we're waiting for the engineers to return with the dilithium... =/\=
Blakus tailed off in his comm-call because, right then, Ensign Dent collapsed to the floor.

Carl had been sat in his ready room for almost thirty minutes .. Andae had checked in at the scheduled time, informing Torek that he was looking into some inconsistencies.
Carl was studying everything Star fleet archives had on Dorvan Five. Every now and then he would look up at the two meter holographic orb, that was the computers real-time representation of Dorvan. Every sixty seconds, the image changed to the ship's records' image of the same planet. For the life of him, Carl couldn't see any difference .. It was frustrating him ! ...... Because explanations were thin on the ground. Either 'this' was Dorvan V, in which case it had moved, temporally that is. Or, this was some sort of replica, duplicate, of Dorvan. But even to him it seemed ridiculous to replicate a planet.
Suddenly the Comm activated.
=^= Sir .. Commander Blakus is on the Comm =^= Marcus informed him.
=^= Put it through here =^=
=^= Blakus to Raven .. Captain it is confirmed .. This is Dorvan V .. Right now we're waiting for the engineers to return with the dilithium =^=
=^= Acknowledged Commander .. If we go off the star charts from the last survey Dorvan One seems to be missing =^=
=^= I have no explanation for that Captain .. But all our readings show this is indeed Dorvan Five .. we're about to enter ...... =^=
The Comm suddenly ceased and Torek tried to re-establish the link, but without luck. He got up and entered the Bridge ..
"Get that Comm link back with the away team."
"Sir Ensign Dent has collapsed and they are dealing with that. Commander Blakus said he will contact us as soon as he establishes Dents condition." Marcus said.
"Very well ... Have Commander Traks informed. We may need to send a medical team down to the surface."
"On it Captain." Jake replied.
Carl could only sit and wait for word from his team on the planet below ..........

"Commander Jamison, can you recall anything else from the information you garnered on Dorvan V? I don't know what it is, but I think that there could be something very important that we are missing."
Jamison pulled up his tricorder and brought up the information he had on Dorvan V.
"It's not much here, sir. All it tells us is that Dorvan V is the fifth planet in the Dorvan system. It is a class M planet located in the Alpha Quadrant, in the border region between Federation and Cardassian space.
In 2350, a group of Native Americans from Earth settled on Dorvan V, having searched for a new home since 2070. The settlers were worried about losing their traditional culture on an increasingly globalized Earth, and this was the main reason for their quest. As a result, in the 24th century, the population still lived much like their ancestors did many centuries before.
The world was part of the Federation until 2370 when it was placed under Cardassian rule by the Federation-Cardassian Treaty. The Federation was worried about the well-being of the settlers under Cardassian jurisdiction and had sent the USS Enterprise-D to try to convince them to relocate. However they chose to stay, citing a spiritual bond with the place."
Will finished his report and stood by as the XO mauled the information over and contacted the Raven to report in. The next thing he knew, Ensign Dent was on the floor. He rushed to her side and knelled beside her just as Biers also arrived.
"What do you have?" the XO asked.
Being as he was in the medical field, Will deferred to the counselor.
<Tag Counselor>
With Ensign Dent being taken care of, Jamison turned to the XO. "You know, sir. Just before Dent collapsed, I was thinking. Dorvan V was inhabited by Native Americans who wanted to stay close to their roots. They wouldn't have had a computer like this."

The away team had reported they were entering a building ... Carl waited patiently for further news.
Lieutenant Marcus frowned and made several checks on his panel before turning to the Captain.
"Sir .. We have just suffered a point eight five percent reduction in power."
=^= Engineering to Bridge =^=
=^= We see it Engineering .. What's the problem ? =^=
=^= Not sure yet .. We're checking =^= Scott said.
=^= Acknowledged Scott .. Bridge out =^=
"Keep an eye on our power levels Mister Marcus. I don't want us loosi ......"
"Another one point four percent drop ......" Marcus said, "Seems to have stabilized now though."
"I'm going down to Engineering." Torek said getting up, "You have the Bridge Lieutenant Marcus." Carl finished, entering the turbo-lift and stating his destination.
~~~~~~~~~~
The large doors opened, allowing Carl to enter Engineering. several Officers nodded as he passed. he didn't expect, nor did he want, people to stand to attention, it was standard practice to acknowledge a Senior Officer, but not stop work while doing so ..
He was looking for Scott when a small figure rocketed from his office. Torek had just enough time to turn and steady himself as Vanessa jumped into his arms ..
"CARL !" she almost yelled, attempting to squeeze the life out of him at the same time, "You haven't been round for AGES, I've missed you ! ......" she finished, a sad expression on her face.
"I know, It's been a busy time. What are you doing down here ?" Carl asked, finally prying the ten year old from his neck and managing to put her onto her feet. "Where's your Dad ?"
"I was sick at school and Daddy said I could stay in his office until the end of his shift ... He said you were too busy to look after me." she finished, piling a ten year olds' guilt on him.
"Thats true sweetheart. we are a little busy at the moment. Why don't you go back into the office and I'll come there once I've spoken to your Dad ... OK ..."
Vanessa put on her best 'sad' face, then decided Carl had suffered her 'blackmail' long enough, and rising to her tip-toes, kissed him on the cheek before running back to the office.
Spotting McLean he walked over ..
"What do we have ?"
"A two point two five percent power drain. But I've no idea where or how at the moment. Everything says the power should still be there, it just, isn't." Scott said, scratching his head, he noticed his Daughter in the large window watching them, "Sorry about Vanes ......"
"Hey, no worries Scott. She said she had been sick ......"
"Yes, Commander Traks gave her something, I'll have her out of here soon."
"Forget it ..." Torek said, looking at the readings displayed on the panel, "Nothing is showing where the drain could have come from. Keep an eye on it. I'll be on the Bridge."
"Aye Sir." Scott said, looking at the readings and frowning ..
Carl entered Scott's office.
"Hope you feel better soon sweetheart. once you do we'll spend a little time in the holosuite OK."
Vanessa put her arms round Carl and nodded silently, then sat back at the table to carry on with the drawing of what to Carl looked like some sort of flying pony, or giraffe, it was hard to tell .. Within minutes he was back on the Bridge ..........
Daniel listened to everyone as they began discussing the planet they had found and if it was or was not Dorvan V, Daniel just looked at the planet and without really think opened himself to see if there was any life on the planet, Daniel only felt those on the ship then a strange feeling of emptiness. Before Daniel could work out what it was he felt he heard his name called from the direction of the turbolift. "Commander Biers?" he called. The Counsellor looked around, and peered over the tactical console's rail at the XO. "What would you say to a trip down to Dorvan, Counsellor?" Daniel smiled at the thought, “I will join you and offer what help i can” Daniel made his way around to the turbolift while thinking ‘and i can find out what this feeling is while i am at it’. As Daniel waited for them to beam down he listened to the XO confirm that there were settlements down there and that it was abandoned, ‘well this should be fun’.
As Daniel and the others arrived Blakus quickly took charge and began given out orders "Engineers, locate the Dilithium," Blakus began distributing orders, "Ensign Dent, you're with Commander Jamison." Blakus looked at the CTSO, "Commander, search out these buildings, see if you can find anything that will give as an idea as to what this place is, whether it's Dorvan V or not, either it or us are not in the place we'd expect." Jamison acknowledged and headed off to a nearby building, accompanied by Dent. "Counsellor," Blakus said to Biers, "You're with me." Daniel looked at him “Very well sir”. Daniel walked next to Blakus as they began walking out though the streets and squares that made up this place, Daniel was not really paying much attention to his surroundings and was spending more time trying to sense out anything that could be helpful. Before Daniel knew it he realised that he must have worried the XO to make him ask "Are you alright Counsellor?" Blakus asked Biers Daniel faced the XO and then began to explain “Sir, i am sorry about that, as you may know i am part Betazoid, i have been trying to pick up on any remnant thoughts or feelings left behind by the original citizens that left this place” Daniel looked around as if nervous of something “But this place has nothing, it is as if this planet has never know life at all until we arrived, it is hard to explain, other than the thoughts and feelings we have had, every street and house has never had anything happen near it. This place is wrong” Before Daniel could continue and worry the XO further a comm. call came though about a computer terminal "A prison?" Blakus and Biers, and the security officer the CTSO had assigned, had joined Jamison and Dent in the building. Ensign Dent spoke. "It appears so, sir," she said. "Assuming this is Dorvan V, do you think it was used by the Cardassians?" Daniel stopped listening again, this was not anything he was interested in, and Daniel could still not shake the feeling that this place should not and did not exist. Daniel then felt a strange sensation, as if falling though water, and he watched as he lost control of his body again and Dent began to fall to the floor.
‘Finally free again’ thought the alter ego as he gained control of the body, he had finally remembered everything, including his programmed orders. Looking around he noted his surroundings and the body of the young female officer on the floor Daniel moved to look at her closely and see what was wrong with her, "What do you have?" Said Blakus Daniel noted he could not sense her thoughts which was not good for her ‘i wish i could have had some fun doing this to her myself, oh well’ “She is out cold, she has a heart beat but it is weak, i would advise she be sent to the raven sickbay as quickly as possible” he knew that was what Daniel would be expected to say in this case, and he was not going to let his cover be blown too quickly. Before really waiting for the others to respond he quickly tapped his comm. badge =/\=Raven, this is Commander Biers, two to beam directly to sickbay=/\=.
Blakus was deep in thought as Biers checked the science officer for a pulse.
"She is out cold, she has a heart beat but it is weak, i would advise she be sent to the raven sickbay as quickly as possible"
The XO was off to the side slightly, rubbing at his chin, he only half-heard the Counsellor's assessment and recommendation for Ensign Dent. Instead of watching Biers leaning over Dent with what Blakus guessed would be concern, he was staring out the window, observing the light streaming in and watching the building opposite the one they were in.
"Very well, Counsellor. Beam back to the ship with her straight to sickbay, see if Commander Traks can do anything," Blakus ordered, "We can handle things down here."
<Tag Biers>
Biers, remaining kneeled down, tapped his commbadge to contact the Raven. His signal was directed throught the Galaxy class' comm transceiver and to the transporter chief, who promptly transported Biers and Dent straight to sickbay. Blakus went back to considering everything they had learnt so far. Jamison had mentioned that the colonists remained here for spiritual reasons. While Blakus was as far from being spiritual as was humanly possible, that part had interested him. Spiritual reasons..
Was it possible that the colonists' belief in the spiritual grounding of this place was more than just an irrational belief? Perhaps it tied into the appearance of Dorvan V in this bizarre and strange space occupied by the Raven. Then again maybe it did not, Blakus was only speculating. Hopefully in time, more would be discovered.
The XO turned his attention to Commander Jamison and the one security guard that had been accompanying him and Biers. "This console is Cardassian," Blakus said to Jamison, referring to the question the CTSO had asked him earlier, "Given the symbols and display graphics it is using, I am sure of it. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to work it.
"Now," he continued, "We should go and find the two engineers, maybe we can find some other indication of former Cardassian presence later on this little trip, if they were indeed ever here. Actually..."
Blakus tapped his commbadge to contact the other group. He was reminded that they had begun the dilithium extraction soon after they arrived. They should have been able to take a significant quantity for Commander McLean to use by now, depending of course on how refined it was et cetera. "Berst, this is Blakus, how is the dilithium extraction coming?"
"Well sir, we are nearly done. We have extracted twenty kilograms in fact, its refinement is at superb levels. I've never seen anything like it.."
"Thank you, Ensign. We will be joining you shortly." Blakus closed the channel and frowned. He had been doing a lot of that lately. "Doesn't it seem a bit strange that the dilithium is so good here?" the XO asked Jamison, being the closest person to him that he could ask, "Would we not have found remnants of a mining operation, dilithium mines take up a fair amount of space, should there be a village here at all?"
It almost seemed a bit... a bit 'convenient', that was the term. The Raven happens across a store of dilithium, and while the ship was not in any desperate need for it, the crystal was certainly welcome. The XO made a connection, he thought about what the Counsellor had said as the group made there way to the engineering team.
... This place has nothing, it is as if this planet has never known life at all until we arrived, it is hard to explain, other than the thoughts and feelings we have had, every street and house has never had anything happen near it. This place is wrong.
Blakus had not paid enough attention to Biers' words at the time, he had been preoccupied with his own thoughts on the place, but now the meaning and implication of Biers' discomfort shot home. "Jamison," Blakus got the CTSO's attention as they were just reaching Berst, Goncalvo and the two other security guards. "What would you say if I put it to you that this world was... a farce. A set-up. Something created to make it seem as if there had once been people here, something that would make us stop.
<Tag>
"Think," Blakus spoke up when he realised everyone had started listening. "We find a planet that we already think we know, Dorvan V. Yet the rest of the system as well as the surrounding starfields are all wrong. There are no inhabitants, and Counsellor Biers has pointed out to me, that he feels the planet was never inhabited. We know this is wrong too. We find a conveniently placed deposit of dilithium, that Ensign Berst tells me is the most pure, refined example of the material that he has ever seen."
"Are you suggesting a higher intelligence is involved, sir?" Goncalvo asked quietly.
"Not a higher one," Blakus said immediately, driving out any potential notion of religion, "But I think the possibility of an intelligence is something we should consider. Do not mistake me, the evidence is extremely far from conclusive, there is so much else that we should explore. The twisting of space and/or reality shifting being the chief of those," the XO added, as if that was an entirely normal thing to add in an offhand manner.
No one said anything for a while, all of them were thinking, but after a while Blakus spoke again. "Ok, engineers finish extracting the dilithium and transport it back to the ship. Jamison, see if you can find any more indications of Cardassian technology, you have ten minutes. I am going to contact the ship, after that, we beam back."
"Blakus to Raven," the XO called Captain Torek on his commbadge. He proceeded to tell him everything he had told the rest of the team, but urged the CO to keep an open mind, and not to latch on to what was after all only a theory. Jamison and his security came back from their further search. "Did you find anything of interest Commander?" the XO asked him.
As Daniel arrived on the ship with Ensign Dent, looking round sickbay Daniel noted Traks sitting in his office “Commander Traks, you have a patient here” Daniel watched as the commander moved from his desk to the bio bed where Daniel was depositing the young ensign. “I will leave you to it, she collapsed during the away mission shortly after we opened an old prison door, it is possible the consol had some sort of defence system that the poor ensign suffered” Daniel answered the remaining questions the chief medical officer. Daniel walked out of sickbay and made his way towards his office, Daniel knew he did not have long before the real Daniel will take back control, knowing this he had to work quickly to ensure he could have fun while he could.
Arriving in his office he quickly turned and sealed the door, walking to his computer Daniel pulled up the main computer access screen. “Computer, identify user, access code, Biers, seven seven two alpha nine two six beta sigma three one, grant full access to all ships systems.” Daniel watched as the computer tried to check his clearance =/\=Access Granted=/\= Daniel smiled “Computer, please isolate control of the ships self destruct to this consol, security level 31” Daniel watched as the computer slowly confirmed his order ‘now only this computer will activate and de-activate the self destruct, well until they dock into a base’ Daniel descided that he should really find a way off the ship before he blew it up.
After several miniutes of checking routes and ensure everything he needed would be in shuttle 2, Daniel brought up the access screen for the self destruct, ‘now how long will it take for me to get to the shuttle bay, and how long for them to work out that control for the system has been totally sealed from engineering’ After desciding that 20 miniutes would be more than enough time he began the process of setting it off. “Computer, this is a section 31 override, security code Biers, seven, seven, two, alpha, nine, two, six, beta, sigma, three, one. Please confirm code” Daniel watched as the screen switched to a section 31 screen, the normal female voice of the computer was replaced by a gruff male voice =/\=Code is confirmed, please place order in 5 miniutes or this consol will explode=/\= Daniel smirked ‘very interesting system’ “Activate self destruct and seal from all but myself” Daniel could not help but smile, as Daniel waited for the confirmation of his order he heard some shuffling of feet outside his door, unsure of what it was he descided to shorten the time length, if he was going to be caught he was going to leave no witnesses. =/\=Command confirmed, please state time length=/\= Daniel spoke quickly “Set timer for 10 mi ...” as he was about to confirm the last word his office door opened and before Daniel could respond he watched as the phaser in the XO’s hand let a strong shot out and hit Daniel clean in the chest.
--Many hours later--
Daniel finally woke to find himself in a brig cell, Daniel knew what his alter ego had been trying to do, but now Daniel was about to suffer the consequences for it. “Chief, i would like to see a senior officer when one is available, and could you ask Commander Traks to see me, i wish to discuss something with him”. Daniel knew the brig chief was not happy about it but he obviously sent off a message as a couple of minutes later Commander Traks walked in the door.
“Hello to you too doctor, i will get straight to the point, have you ever heard of a project that suggested allowing doctors to insert a set of programmed commands into a person’s brain that would in time merge with the patients consciousness to correct behavioural problems, a project i believe was outlawed but the federation. Well i want you to read up on any and all ways to detect it as i think my nice friends, or should i say ex-friends in section 31 seem to have added a mass murdering mad man into my brain.” Daniel knew he must sound either crazy or desperate but he needed to prove this before they got back to base or he would be dead inside a day.
Carl watched the planet below. It was a little frustrating at times, but at least he was finally getting used to it.
He had been studying the surrounding star-fields with a frown on his face. This was undoubtedly Dorvan Five, but at the same time it was impossible that it could be. There were too many inconsistencies, only four planets orbiting the Sun, a Sun giving out fifteen percent more luminescence than the Dorvan systems' own .. Torek found himself scratching his head, and self-consciously halted the action.
"Mister Marcus." Carl said, turning the the Ops Officer currently at the Science station, "Has anything 'familiar' shown up ?"
"There's a star system on the very outer limit of our sensors, it could be Dua Ceti, but at this range I wouldn't want to stake my life on it." Jake said, shrugging.
"You may well be staking 'ALL' our lives on it Lieutenant, so try to be sure."
"Aye Sir ..." Jake replied, trying to tweak more from his sensors.
=^= Blakus to Raven =^=
=^= Raven .. Go ahead Commander =^= Torek answered, then sat quietly as he got the Exec's report. He confirmed that Biers and Ensign Dent were aboard and then asked if Blakus needed more personnel.
=^= I'll make an assessment and contact you in one hour Captain =^=
=^= Then I'm going to take the Raven to the edge of this system to allow Mister Marcus a better scan of a system that could lead us home .. Stay in contact Andae .. I am sending four more Security Staff down to you .. We'll be back at the first sign of trouble =^=
=^= You expect some ? =^=
=^= Better safe than sorry Commander .. Raven out =^=
Carl closed the Comm and turned to the duty Security Officer ..
"See to the extra staff for the surface Lieutenant ... Helm ... Heading two four four mark six zero. Take us out of orbit as soon as the personnel have beamed to the surface.
"Aye Captain." ..........
=^= Better safe than sorry Commander .. =^=
"Copy that, Captain." Blakus replied, staring at the sky as if trying to espy the Galaxy class's underside through the layers of Dorvan V's atmosphere.
=^=Raven out =^= came Torek's voice one last time, and then the ship sped out of orbit of the planet to the further reaches of the system. Whatever system this is.. thought Blakus, bitterly. He was becoming frustrated with his inability to figure out this mess of thoughts and ideas regarding the situation, storming around inside his mind.
The XO gave a cursory glance at his surroundings, to see where everyone was situated and what they were doing. He needed to get this group organised and ready for return to the ship by the time she got back from the edges of the system. Blakus found his thoughts jumping ahead to what would be happening when the Raven did get back, would they find this Dua Ceti system, would it point a way home? These questions he would have to address later, but for now there was the away mission to conclude, even though he did have to keep those questions in mind all of the time.
Jamison gave his report on his investigation of the surrounding area. Apparently, there was very little else in the way of signs of Cardassian presence. A supply depot, no more. While Blakus mulled this over, figuring out what this meant, the two engineers finished up their dilithium extraction.
Goncalvo removed the large, bulky dilithium-collector device from the crack in the crust. He and Ensign Berst had found the dilithium in a purer state than either of them had ever seen in their careers. If Commander Blakus was correct about a guiding intelligence, then Goncalvo figured that that intelligence was quite powerful, given that it had access to such levels of purity in warp drive technology. "Ok Berst, let's pack this stuff up," he muttered, collecting his tools from the ground and returning them to his engineer's 'toolkit'. As he and Berst did this, the four newly-arrived security guards approached. Evidently they had been beamed down (at the Captain's order) closer to the centre of the village, and had had to walk from there to here.
Blakus had never got over the idea of 'tons' of security in an engineers' workarea. The addition of four more of the brutes to the four already present (Commander Jamison and the original trio) just added to that feeling. "Received them, Captain," Blakus muttered to the ground, "As if they're needed."
Picking himself up from his current irritable state, with difficulty, Blakus supervised the team for the rest of the away mission which passed off without any further and unwelcome hitch.
The Raven returned, and Blakus ordered for the team of eleven (including himself) to be transported back. Moments later the XO, Commander Jamison and the rest of the away team were again standing on the pads in the transporter room. "Thank you, Chief," Blakus said with a friendly smile at the transporter operator. The female Petty officer manning the station nodded.
"Goncalvo, Berst, take this lovely dilithium to engineering, I'm sure Commander McLean will enjoy having such refined crystal in his matter/antimatter reaction chamber," Blakus said dryly. "Security back to your stations and..." He turned back to Jamison, still on the transporter pad.
"Commander," he said, "Let us return to the bridge."
***
Blakus took his seat on the Raven's bridge, and Jamison took the tactical console. "What do we have?" Blakus asked the Captain, knowing that his CO would know he was referring to the news on Dua Ceti.
Before Torek could respond, Lieutenant Marcus piped up from the Ops console, "Confirmed, that system on long-range sensors in Dua Ceti." Blakus blinked at the seeming interruption. But as Torek did not rebuke the COO, Andae assumed that the whole bridge must have been waiting on Marcus to confirm the star as Dua Ceti. No easy task in this unfamiliar starfield, and at this long range... Blakus thought.
"That's it then," Blakus muttered, thinking of the significance, "Assuming that the rest of the space beyond Dua Ceti is as we expect it to be like, then we have a beacon home. Although the idea that things aren't further spatially misshapen is one hell of an assumption, Captain." Torek nodded, confirming to Blakus that they were both thinking the same things.
After a further moment's silence, an urgent Marcus spoke up from Ops, "Sirs! Someone is accessing the higher command functions from the computer mainframe!"
"What!?" Blakus jumped out of his seat. "Pinpoint source of user."
"Yes, sir.." Marcus said, frantically working his console with shaky hands. This was an instantly frightening proposition, the only officers with access to the Raven's higher command functions were the Captain and Andae Blakus himself. Worse was to come. "I can't believe this.. sirs, I'm not sure what I'm reading.." Marcus was saying.
Blakus jumped over to the Ops console and looked at the information on Marcus's screen. "Is this right, sir?" Marcus pointed to words on the screen.
Blakus nodded, "Someone is isolating the functions for the self-destruct sequence to one console.. where is it? Track the source, Lieutenant." Blakus told him again.
It took half a minute, a full agonising thirty seconds of absolute torture in which time the self destruct sequence was in the process of being set up. "Deck 8," Marcus said unsteadily, wiping his brow, "Section 34-3 beta. Counsellor Biers' office?" Marcus peered at his controls in confusion.
Torek indicated that Blakus should go. The XO tapped Jamison on the arm as he ran past him, "You're with me," he said quickly, running for the turbolift and grabbing a phaser on the way. The turbolift made its way down and Blakus consoled himself that there was not a great distance between the turbolift and the Counsellor's office. Second door on the left.. he kept telling himself. The doors opened and the XO and Jamison charged out, phasers in hand.
The Counsellor's office door barely had enough time to open. Blakus pointed his weapon at the Counsellor, who had been leaning over a computer console on his desk and had just turned to look. Without a further second's hesitation Blakus pressed the trigger button, the orange beam leapt away from the Mk.II phaser and impacted Biers on the chest. Stunned, the Counsellor's head snapped back and he fell to the floor, clunking his back on the table edge on the way down. "What the hell was he doing?" Blakus asked, the words coming from the pure rush of adrenaline. Jamison checked Biers console, and to the relief of both of them saw that the Counsellor had not had time to activate what would have been an un-terminatable self-destruct sequence.
