The Romulan What Ruined Christmas

It was blowing quite cold on the frozen world Arctica one wintry night, as the lights shone bright from the industrial workshop of one such jolly old creature in red and his workers so small. On the lines were ore, materials and parts to be pieced together with the love in their hearts (and duct tape for good measure). The pieces went in and what came out were the things that made those who’d been good this year feel happy inside. The assembly lines moved with the engines’ whir and the workers worked under the supervision of the one most important of all.
“We’re almost done, and hurry we must, for there are only two days left before I must deliver each gift,” he said to his pointy eared workers quite small. But there was one worker not so small, not tiny at all; in fact he was actually quite tall. He firmed his brow and smile quite vile and concealed in his hand moved toward the jolly old fat man. This tall, pointy eared, stranger pulled forth his weapon and with a shot incapacitated the saintly soul leaving everyone frightened out of control for this man was really a Romulan and not an elf.
“Now that I have accomplished my goal I can begin the next part of my evil plan,” he said to no one but himself.
On board the mighty starship Majesty, the outlook was quite cheerful. Upon the bridge the crew bustled and worked to the betterment of mankind and the rest of the Federation. The ship flew along, and as it did, the helmsman was quietly perplexed with a problem. It was nearly over a year since his heart was stolen by another, beautiful young lady on board. This year he hoped to take the relationship to the next level. As he pondered and thought about it, so too was the captain overwhelmed with holiday spirit. She approached Hawk from behind and, with flora in hand, did plant a kiss on him for which he surely didn’t mind.
“You were under the mistletoe, it’s Christmas tradition,” she said to the puzzled birdman.
“What is it with this Christmas you people celebrate so and give so much attention?” he asked her.
“Well regardless its religious significance, whatever you may believe in, it is held by Humans as the holiday celebration wherein people come together in happiness and peace and show their love,” she said as she leaned in close to him and smiled.
“So then what about Valentine’s Day?”
“No that’s when us women get to have the excuse for men to shell out and get us a bunch of chocolate we don’t need along with flowers that will only die a few days later while they spew out a bunch of mushy stuff that would otherwise seem emasculating.”
“Ah, commercialism.”
“Yep.” That was it, he thought, what a perfect plan! Michael had his answer, by this time come the day after tomorrow he vowed, someway, somehow, he’d get Liz, under the mistletoe!
On a Romulan scout ship, not but a sector away, the next step in Rellek’s evil plan was on its way. He would need the services of a Federation starship once acquired he could easily slip through the defenses of Starfleet and with a simple stroke take out her capital, no need to decloak.
“Once they are near we shall take them by surprise and I shall lead a boarding party to try and take the ship. I can only imagine the look in their eyes as we move through their ship leaving nothing alive.”
“Yes, Commander, but what about their security, any resistance from them and your plan would be at risk?”
“They will be distracted with attack from our vessel. A few carefully placed rounds should cause enough distraction and keep them from taking notice of our actions while dealing with our guerilla attacks.”
Back on Majesty, the intrepid young navigator, having managed some free time, made his way to Sickbay to see the doctor. He entered to find everyone at work, helping someone, or other such tasks as needed to be done. Michael slowly progressed as he soon found Liz in her office busily attending to something. She looked up as he knocked on her doorway and poked his head in.
“Busy?” he asked not sure what he was doing.
“Not at the moment,” she smiled happy to see him. “Did you need something?” He paused a second before finally managing to say what he wanted.
“I was hoping you could come with me, I wanted to show something to you.” He would lead her out into the corridor and, standing there, beneath the door, where he had hung the mistletoe and reveal his feelings true. She got up and moved toward him but before he could act, in popped the nurse, which made him react.
“It’s time!” she uttered and before anyone knew it, the place was a clutter.
“Sorry,” she apologized as he gazed in her eyes, “but I have to go deliver, the mother is due.” She exited the office and started to prepare. “You might not want to see this next part.” she said, and as they got started Michael had to turn his head. Outside he felt dejected but he wasn’t going to let himself be defeated.
The Romulan ship was within striking distance of the Majesty and Rellek was gathered with his troops in the transporter room. Once the Federation starship was struck on the first strike they would beam over and take the ship (but you already knew that).
It had been an hour or two and by now the doctor would no doubt be finished with her patient. Michael knew he would be able to succeed this time when she was alone in the Mess Hall. As he entered he spotted sitting there not with herself but instead with her staff. He couldn’t make an attempt now he thought he just could not. He stood and watched her from the door when suddenly the ship shook and he was thrown to the floor. The red alert sounded a terrible noise as Aarons struggled to regain his poise.
“Captain the ship came out of nowhere, it’s cloaking again!” screamed the weapons officer reported (whomever that is we’ve had about ten).
“Shields up! Falco, I blame you!”
“Hey, what’d I do!?” he retorted.
Michael returned to his feet upright and made for the bridge but along the way he found himself part of a fire fight. They handed him a phaser and told him where to aim. He looked and saw a team of Romulans doing the same.
The enemy ship decloaked again and fired once more on the Majesty but from a different location than before. They returned fire or so they tried but it was no use for the smaller ship was quick to run and hide.
Meanwhile, Michael was trying his best to hurry and suppress this Romulan intrusion when suddenly he thought, what about those in the Mess? All they had to do was enter from the other side and anyone still there wouldn’t be safe. He ran back the way came with a few others who did the same as he rushed through the doors, past the startled medical staff, over table and chair and exited on the other side to take the Romulans by surprise. They arrived and the Romulans found themselves fighting on two fronts. Aarons spied with his eyes one more slipping off down a different way and pursued after him. Michael found Rellek trying to sneak around a different path to his goal and tackled him to the ground. They struggled and wrestled and punches flew until weapons were drawn between the two.
“End of the line, Romulan.”
“You first, Human.”
“What were you hoping to accomplish?” Michael gripped tight his phaser.
“Once I claim your ship we can then easily slip into Federation space and Sector 001 and take out Earth while they are mired by the loss of their precious Xmas.”
“Oh brilliant plan considering not everybody celebrates Christmas!”
“What?!” Rellek was surprised by the news.
“Yeah, all the aliens aside, there are those who have Chanukah, Kwanzaa, Festivus, and others are just plain nice this time of year. You’re not too bright are you?”
“Regardless, I plan to wipe the cheer from your pitiful planet all year round.”
“Over my yuletide body!” He kicked the disruptor from Rellek’s hand. Before he could bring his phaser up, he was grabbed by the ankle and thrown against the wall. The Romulan scrambled for the weapon as Michael managed to sideswipe him out the door and into the hall.
“Where is Aarons? We need him up here to take on this attack!” The Majesty was pounded both forward and back and without good evasion the shields had to pick up the slack.
Michael twisted Rellek’s arm behind him, kicking the phaser out of reach but failed to notice his leg trip him on his back. Rellek ran for the phaser and as he did, Aarons gripped his shin and all at once he fell on his chin. Michael jumped on his back and like a sack Rellek arose and ram him up against a bulkhead. He spun around, and with his fingertip found, a pressure point at which to hold him down.
The Majesty dodged, it weaved and it ducked but ultimately found little luck.
“Captain, ship decloaking up ahead!”
“Torpedoes away!” Three quantum torpedoes hurled from their place and with some ease left the Romulan ship dead in space.
Rellek had Michael at his mercy. He was pinned, couldn’t move, there was nothing he could do (except be cocky) and stood waiting.
“You fight almost like a Klingon.”
“You’d be surprised what you can learn from who you’re dating.” Just then there appeared, a fat man in a beard, in red and quite old this man, a gun in his hand.
“Ho, ho, ho.” He fired and knocked Rellek out cold. Michael looked at him and couldn’t believe what he’d behold.
“Santa! What are you doing here?”
“Why my boy I’m a cop out, just here to assist. The writer got lazy, but he’s still on my good list. In any case, I never miss a Christmas, that’s what Santa’s about.” (He’s right you know.) He left with a chuckle and flew off in his sleigh in time to make it for Christmas Day.
Michael stumbled and limped his way to the front doors of ship’s Sickbay. Liz met there worried what’s the matter but he would be fine, just bruised and a bit battered.
“What was it you wanted show me?” she asked to know and then he noticed she was under the mistletoe he had placed. As they embraced he smiled and they kissed.
“Merry Christmas to all and for me a good night!”
