Matthew Reynolds wanted so badly to pretend that his friend and mentor was playing a bad joke on him. His immediate thoughts were no longer those of a Starfleet captain, but those of a father scared for the safety of his child. The anguish, fear, and anger that was coursing through his body were unexplainable.
~Focus Matt, Caleb needs you right now~ Matt thought as he turned his attention to his officers and to the Admiral in front of him. Even though he did not have the complete details, Matt knew that this would cause major changes on board the Jefferson.
"Admiral, I need you to prepare for transport immediately, I will explain once you are on board," Matt said as he cut of the transmission," Computer contact the Jefferson now!"
The face of his newly promoted second officer appeared on the view screen. He could tell that he had also been through hell, but at that moment he didn't care about the wellbeing of J'Varr T'Ress or any other member of his crew. All he wanted to know was about Caleb and deep down he knew that he couldn't be the captain of the Jefferson until he found him.
"What the hell happened, Commander! How could a child be kidnapped from a Sovereign class vessel. Dammit, J'Varr we have faced a fleet of warships and survived! How the hell was my son kidnapped?" Matt yelled across the view screen. Not allowing himself to feel sorry for the Caitain officer, Matthew continued to wait for an answer," I'm waiting for answer Commander and I want it now!"
(J'Varr)
Matt could not remember the last time he felt so helpless. His child had been kidnapped and he was light years away unable to search for him.
"Ensign Valad, how soon will Admiral MC be ready for transport!" Matt roared not even looking to make sure that the ensign was in the forward compartment.
(Valad)
"Commander Pride, I want a course set for the Jefferson immediately," Matt said before turning back to J'Varr," I want the Jefferson to be ready for a search and rescue the moment our shuttles dock."
(J'Varr)
"Megan, I know you have been listening. I want you to head towards the Jefferson right away," Matt said," I need to have him back. I don't care what we have to do, but we are going to get them back."
(Megan)
Matt was increasingly growing impatient with MC. His friend had yet to arrive on the Seraph, and Matt had been ready to leave the moment he had received the news about the abduction. The familiar hum of the transporter signaled his arrival and Matt immediately ordered Commander Pride to head towards the Jefferson.
"Do you know which [word deleted] kidnapped my son?" Matt asked MC wanting to know everything that could help him find his son.

Hearing his captains orders and seeing the stress he was under was not good. His outburst towards J'varr was uncalled for to say the least. He didn't even give him a chance to say anything before he started yelling. He knew that kids were missing and at stake still he could have handle it better he thought. Then again he was not a parent so he couldn't be sure of how he would feel although being able to shut out emotions was something he was grateful for right now.
As the admiral transported aboard he plotted his course, he started rerouting all power to the warp corp to get every bit of speed out of the ship. He knew the safety limits and the real limits of the ship as well.
turning to face his captian " Sir we are underway traveling at max warp and then some. The ship will need engine repairs after we arrive. There wont be much power for anything else right now I have it all going to the warp drive. I will get you home captain as fast as I can if I have to get out and help push the ship." he could already hear the hull groaning being pushed to its extreme limits looking back up at the command officer's " Dont worry about that she will hold together trust me on that might need to fix the hull when we return as well captain" <Tag Reynolds>

The mission had turned out well, thanks to the sudden but not entirely unexpected arrival of the U.S.S. Lone Wolf, but something still felt off. Megan hadn’t contacted Admiral LaPage yet, but with her shuttle automatically monitoring communication channels the presence of Admiral MC7of9 had not gone unnoticed. Why would he be here? It just didn’t add up with their current mission, especially at its conclusion, and any piece that didn’t fit tended to make her uneasy. Something else was going on; that much was obvious, but then the question still remained what exactly was it?
Trying to dismiss the anxious feeling, Megan instead focused on her post-mission work, forwarding all the appropriate information and reports to the right people and ensuring that all the prisoner files were correctly marked while monitoring any non-secure communications. When a channel opened between the Seraph and Lone Wolf, Commander Garrett hit a few buttons to play the audio in the background as she worked. When the Admiral’s voice was heard, she could tell just from his tone he was about to relay very bad news and quickly pulled up the visual on split screen.
=/\=Matt, there’s been an incident aboard the Jefferson. A group has been kidnapped. The group that was kidnapped was children, and Caleb was one of them. I want you to know that I'm here for you, and no matter what it takes I'll go wherever I have to and do whatever is required, and I promise you, we will get those children back.=/\=
Gasping in shock, Megan stared at the horrified expression on her Captain’s face as the color drained from her own. If Caleb was only one of the children taken, she knew instantly that Freddy and Angel were probably gone as well. She could only imagine what Nathan and Matt were feeling, but a dark, cold anger was beginning to form inside her. Why someone would take an innocent child to use for their own gain was beyond her, but whoever did this was going to pay for it, she was certain. =/\=Megan, I know you have been listening. I want you to head towards the Jefferson right away. I need to have him back. I don't care what we have to do, but we are going to get them back,=/\= the shaking voice of her Commanding Officer insisted.
Not caring if it did confirm she was listening when she shouldn’t have been able to, Megan pulled the Sommers sharply to port to face the right direction and instantly jumped to warp. Now going full speed toward the Jefferson, her mind began to race with the implications and what she could do to help get them back. A single thought crossed her mind, and she quickly opened a channel. A few minutes and security clearances later and the very serious face of Admiral LaPage was on her screen.
“You’ve heard,” he stated, skipping the small talk and pleasantries and getting right to the point. At her curt nod, the Admiral continued. “I already sent out the general bulletin to everyone, as well as a specific, more detailed report to all the agents or teams in the area. Rest assured, they will do whatever they can to help find them.”
“That’s not enough,” Megan replied calmly. “It needs to be taken to another level.”
His eyebrows rising slightly in surprised, David nonetheless remained composed. “Alright, I’ll send out all the details to everyone and start getting a small team ready.”
“I meant higher than that,” Commander Garrett insisted. “I’m Angel van Breughel’s godmother, and I’m also a Black Ops agent, so I want a personal flag on this one.”
Eyes widening at this, he still remained calm. “Angel wasn’t taken, Megan. Those abducted were Caleb, Kyle, and Alex Reynolds, your Captain’s son and nephews, and Frederic van Breughel, so he’s your goddaughter’s brother, but it’s a stretch.”
Biting back her frustration, Megan forced her voice to remain even. “I don’t care if it’s a stretch. It’s personal to me, so I want this flagged.” Hesitating, her eyes met his. “I’m asking as a personal favor to me, Dave. I’ve never asked you for anything before, but I am asking for this now. Please,” she asked, her eyes never wavering.
It was true that she had never asked him for anything, even though he owed her more than he could ever hope to repay, and that was also one of only a few times she had ever used his first name, and so without any hesitation, he replied. “Done.”
Relaxing slightly, Megan felt a flood of relief. “Thank you,” she responded sincerely.
“Don’t mention it,” Dave replied, equally sincere. “I still owe you, even after this,” he added, smiling slightly and trying to lighten the mood just a little bit. “I’ll let you know when the team is assembled and on their way. I already have one in mind.”
Smiling slightly at his barb about owing her, Megan nodded. “I’ll make preparations for their arrival, but make it absolutely clear to them: I’m taking the lead on this one.”
Smiling widely, the Admiral replied, “Of course…you know I know you better than to ever think otherwise,” he teased, before his expression grew more serious again. “Keep me informed, Commander. I’ll do what I can to help from here. Good luck.”
As the screen went dark, Megan sighed heavily, and checked on her estimated time of arrival. She was still several hours out, but it was beginning to feel like weeks...
~
After being bored out of her mind for almost an entire day in sickbay, Marina was more than ready to get back to work. True, she was supposed to be taking it easy today and tomorrow before really getting back to normal, but at least she was able to do something now. It was terribly upsetting how four boys could get taken off a Sovereign class starship just like that. It reminded the security officer of that time when a little girl got separated from her mother in the mall where she worked. It had been a terrifying half an hour until the child turned up in a store across the street. This was much, much worse. Those boys could be anywhere and with anyone…
Heading down to sickbay to get checked out before returning to duty, Marina kind of hoped that Nathan would not be there. Just seeing him would reinforce the fact that his son was missing. Stepping into the medical center, the doctor was indeed there, looking pale and somewhat shell shocked. Trying to avoid being seen, there was no such luck, as Doctor van Breughel spotted her immediately and motioned for her to join him. Swallowing but trying to act as normal as possible, she complied.
“Hey, Nathan. I’m feeling much better after a good night’s sleep and hoping to get back to work. It’ll take more than an explosion to stop me! Megan should be back soon too, and I should be all better by then. She is annoyingly protective of me...”

There wasn't much for him to do he had done everything possible to get them going back to the Jefferson. He had taken every minute possible off there return time, avoiding gravity wells and such. He decided it wast time to send a coded message to the represenative of his home world. After all if they we thinking of joining it was only logical to send a represenative to learn about the federation.
Opening a coded channel to the embassy he got who he was looking for the ambassoder himself " Pride it bring joy to my heart to see you after so long your family misses you a great deal"
" I miss them Carb please send them my love when you next talk to them, I need a favor one that you might be able to help me with."
" Anything for the son of the ruling family how may I help you my friend" pausing for a moment.
" I want you to use your status and get everything you can on Commander Garrett. The Federation wants us to join they need us to join for what we can bring to the table. I want you to use that and get everything you can on her. I don't really trust her right now to many question surrounding her. I wouldn't be shocked if she was hacking this message now."
" Dont worry about that if she is we will know our technology is more advance all she will hear is static. I will make some contacts and see what I can dig up for you is there anything we should be worried about. A Crowned prince life is very importan and if harm comes to you there will be no joining only war."
" No I dont think its that big of a deal I just think her loyalty is devided and that worries me. I would just you look more towards the groups that nobody in starfleet wants to talk about. Her recent mission with me and the ship she is using is not something a normal Commander should have access to."
" I can have a ship there to you a few days and activate your diplomatic status again as a prince. It helped when you were on the scavenger with Captain Drago."
" No it hasn't come to that yet I hope it doesn't it gets very hard to fit in and learn about my own people."
" They may be your own kind but they will never be your people you belong to our world and are of our heart. It does not matter you weren't born there or look like us your family has told you this was not the best idea."
" I dont want to go into that now but have a ship standing by and get me some answers also what ever you can get on the crew of the jefferson will be helpful to. I need to go now before the captain and admiral come back in. Just find out what you can and let me know make sure you contact me I dont want this getting out"
" Stay safe my prince let your heart not be troubled and you journey free of trouble. I will get what you want it will take some time. As I'm sure you dont want people aware of your status or asking questions"
The com channel went dark whats going on here why so many secerts and who is Commander Garrett really working for. More importanly who's side is she really on and what are her intentions.

The next morning, Nathan woke early when the sound of a thin wail reached him for a second time. Checking the time, he sighed and rose from the bed. He pulled his sleeping shirt over his head and tossed it onto the bed, reaching towards a deep blue shirt that fit snugly around his muscled upper body. When he turned, he saw Jayden was still asleep, so he moved as quietly as possible, pulling on a pair of jet-black pants, socks and finally his boots. He tugged the hem of his shirt down, then checked his appearance in a mirror.
Nearly satisfied with his appearance - he still looked quite pale and upset - he spent a few minutes in the bathroom to get a shave and comb his hair, he returned to the bedroom, finding his partner semi-awake. Leaning over, he kissed Jayden on his forehead, tucking him back in. "Sleep in," he murmured, "I'll take her with me to sickbay. You have your duty to report to." When Jayden seemed to want to protest, the doctor effectively silenced him. "Come get her when you're done," he suggested, "you sat with her during the night. My turn now."
He picked up he infant from her cradly, hugging her close. Wrinkling his nose, he immediately knew what the cause was of his daughter's crying. However, with a quick bath and a change of diapers, that was quickly remedied.
Nathan decided to skip breakfast for now, feeding his baby daughter on his way to sickbay. He was hardly aware of the security officer who followed him from a slight distance, being too focused on his daughter's well-being. As he entered sickbay, he beelined for his father. "Dad, how do you feel this morning?" he asked quietly, "still got a headache?" With his free hand, he reached for a tricorder, then thought the better of it, reaching for his father instead. "Ribs still tender?"
His eyes were smouldering as he regarded his injured father. In his arms, Angelique had started crying again, her thin wail carrying across sickbay.
Peter struggled himself up in a sitting position. "I'm fine son," he answered gently, "here let me hold her for a while, so you can attend to your other patients. After that, I think you should take her to the pool, have her share in your love for water as soon as possible." He smiled, trying to convince his son he was fine. "Honestly, you're too tense and you need to relax."
"How can I relax dad," Nathan shot back, his free hand clenching into a fist. "Someone has my son, and I won't rest until I have him back, safe and sound." Yet he handed the baby over and turned away, spotting Marina Garrett walk into sickbay.
Grimly, he beckoned her over to a vacant biobed, while she called to him from the decreasing distance. “Hey, Nathan. I’m feeling much better after a good night’s sleep and hoping to get back to work. It’ll take more than an explosion to stop me! Megan should be back soon too, and I should be all better by then. She is annoyingly protective of me...”
"Protection is good," Nathan replied with a thin smile, "I used to be very protective of my sister too...still am at that. And of course of my brother as well, but sisters tend to need protection. Younger sisters that is." He waved a tricorder over her, noting a slightly elevated blood-pressure and an increased adrenalin level, but nothing significant otherwise. "And I don't think she needs to know you were injured in an explosion," he added, sounding very serious, though his tone was clipped and curt.
He sighed miserably. "I hope we'll be out soon, I can't wait to get my hands on the people who have taken my boy. And I want a serious talk with Captain Reynolds as well...I find security aboard this vessel seriously lacking!" He clenched his hand into a fist again, so tight the skin on his hand was turning white with the tension. His expression was drawn, his eyes livid but haunted. "Your friend...what was his name, Ben? He'll be fine, I'll release him in a few hours. Why don't you go find Commander T'Ress and update him on his engineer's condition? I think he'll want to know more about that nacelle too."
~elsewhere~ Freddie sat hunched in a corner, shivering in fear. He had been blindfolded and tightly bound before, but at least now his hands were free again. He saw Caleb hugging his cousins to him and for a moment the 5-year old felt envious of the older boy's bravery and company of his family. Freddie was alone in that, he had no family with him right now and he missed his father and Jayden terribly.
He felt the tears flowing from his eyes and angrily he wiped them away. "Caleb?" he asked, his voice cracked from crying and fear. "Caleb, where are we?" The boy shivered again, making himself as small as possible. "Is my opa here too? Have you seen him? I think they hurt him bad.." His voice cracked even further as he couldn't contain his sobbing any longer. "I want my dad," he finally whispered.

Even though Caleb had been in these types of situations before, this was the first time that the responsibility of being in charge fell on him. Not understanding why this was happening to them, Caleb felt that he needed to be there for his cousins and Freddy. He needed to be strong for them and not allow them see that he was as scared as they were.
Understanding how lonely Freddie felt, Caleb moved next to Freddie and tried to comfort him as well. Caleb had almost forgotten that Freddie was just a five year old boy.
"My dad is going to save us, Freddie," Caleb said as he motioned for Freddie to sit to his right," you know that our dads won't let anything happen to us. You opa is just going to have a big bump on his head. Before we left I heard him moan in pain. Whoever did this to us is going to pay."
"Our we now," a strange man said as he entered the dark room that the boys were being kept," your father won't be able to do anything. We have big plans for the four of you!"
Caleb was not one to believe everything adults said but for some unknown reason, he knew that this man was not lying. Whoever the man in front of them was, he was going to do everything in his power to keep him away from his father.
"He's going to kill you!" Caleb yelled between sobs," he's going to kill you."
Matt
Seeing the Jefferson had always brought a smile to Matt's face, but for the first time he couldn't wait to be as far away from it as possible. The place that was supposed to keep him and his son safe had failed them.
"Captain we are to move out as soon as you dock," Monica reported from the bridge," we've tried to find as much information on the people that took them, but its not much."
"I've already called in all of my favors, hopefully they will be able to tell me more," Matt said before he shut the transmission and turned to his superior officer," I need you to do this for me. I cannot be an effective leader while my mind is clearly not on them."
(MC)
"Commander Pride, dock the Seraph and take a day off," Matt said wanting the best pilot to be at his best. Hopefully Desert's ability would come in handy once again.
(Desert)
"Ensign Valad, before we do anything I want you to know that you have performed admirably since you joined the Jefferson," Matt said turning to the young man," I know its unusual and extremely quick but effective immediately you are hereby promoted to Lieutenant Junior Grade."

The journey back to the Jefferson seemed as though it was taking forever. It was a fairly quiet journey. Vice Admiral Mc 7 of 9 was taking command of the Jefferson during the mission to rescue the kidnapped children. Valad couldn't focus on anything. He had only been a part of the crew for a short time but they already felt like family to him. He now would make sure that nothing ever happened to those children again, as soon as they were found.
A voice crackled over the comm. "Captain we are to move out as soon as you dock," It was Lt. Quindara."We've tried to find as much information on the people that took them, but its not much."
Captain Reynolds responded, ""I've already called in all of my favors, hopefully they will be able to tell me more. I need you to do this for me. I cannot be an effective leader while my mind is clearly not on them," he said, turning to his superior. Captain Reynolds then gave Commander Pride some leave. He finally turned to Valad and said something that completely threw him off guard. "Ensign Valad, before we do anything I want you to know that you have performed admirably since you joined the Jefferson. I know its unusual and extremely quick but effective immediately you are hereby promoted to Lieutenant Junior Grade."
Valad was shocked. A promotion! This early?! Valad knew better than to open his mouth other than to say, "Thank you, sir. What are my orders upon arrival? I want to find the kids Captain."

The whole way back to the Jefferson, Megan was on edge. The Sommers’ engines were pushed to the limit in a race to return as fast as possible, and her mind was spinning with all of the things she needed to do. The team was a necessary request to best ensure the right outcome, but it was also incredibly inconvenient. First, they needed a cover for being there, second, they needed to avoid raising suspicion in connection with her, and third, Commander Garrett had never enjoyed working with a team and actually avoided it at all costs. But this wasn’t just any mission; this one was personal, and she wasn’t going to allow her personal preferences to interfere.
Carefully guiding her shuttle into the bay, the engines were struggling a little from being pushed so hard, but she still managed to execute a smooth landing. It would need some adjustments and minor repairs now, which added yet another item on her to do list much to her frustration. Quickly powering down and disembarking, she waved off the repair crews who were watching hesitantly as they could see the ship needed some work. “I’ll get to it myself,” she called out to the engineer in charge. “And I’ll requisition any parts I might need. I’ll let you know if I need anything else.”
With that, Commander Garrett strode purposefully out of the shuttlebay. First, she needed to find out what had been happening while she was gone and review the sensor records surrounding the time of the kidnapping. The Captain and Admiral would arrive within an hour or two, and she hoped to hear word of the team before then. She would need to speak with the agents before they arrived, as they had to be fully informed of the situation they were getting into; they deserved that respect.
Finally back in her quarters, Megan grabbed a quick shower and changed before sitting at her desk with something to eat. Scanning through the myriad of reports, her attention was caught by her sister’s name, and hurriedly accessing the data, the First Officer stared in horror at the information. ‘Overload’ and ‘explosion’ stood out on the padd, and after only skimming the report, and demanding to know her sister’s whereabouts from the computer, Commander Garrett took off for sickbay.
Rushing into the medical center at full speed, Megan slid to a halt on the other side of the door when she saw her sister standing, obviously perfectly well and talking to Nathan. “Marina,” she called, relief crossing her face briefly as she approached. “I just got back and heard about the explosion. What happened?” the First Officer asked, avoiding an ‘are you ok,’ as the answer was obviously right in front of her.
Rolling her eyes, and sending Nathan a ‘see what I mean’ look, Marina replied, “I’m fine, Megan... Engineering detected a lot of damage to the nacelle, which suddenly disappeared, so they asked for security to check for anything suspicious. I found a group of deactivated devices, and when I removed one to send to Engineering, they all suddenly activated and overloaded.” Holding up her hand to stop the stream of questions she knew was coming, Ensign Garrett added, “There were no explosives detected, no power readings either. They were inactive until disturbed, and there was no way we could have detected they were programmed to overload until it was too late. Even so, I managed to put it down, warn those in the area, and get some distance away before the explosion, so no one was hurt that badly.”
Trying not to smile at her little sister’s brief explanation, which reminded Megan of a teenager attempting to explain something to their parents, and perfectly aware that she was behaving a bit like a protective parent, she responded. “Well I’m glad you’re alright. Were they able to recover anything from the devices to determine their origin or purpose for being there?” Commander Garrett asked, attempting to slip back into a First Officer mode in place of the overprotective older sister mode.
Sighing, Marina switched gears entirely and in a somewhat exasperated tone shot back, “Well, since after it happened I was unconscious in sickbay, I have no idea!”
A slight smirk slipped across Commander Garrett’s face at her sister’s overdramatic response, but she quickly schooled her expression again. “I’m still glad you’re ok.”
Features reluctantly softening, Marina sighed. “Thanks. I’m glad you’re back too,” she offered, feeling a little silly about her little outburst. “I’m just about to go back on duty now, so I’ll see you later. I’m sure that you have big important things to do.”
“Oh, of course,” Megan replied, grinning slightly. “See you later, and take it easy.”
“Yeah, yeah...” the security officer shot back, returning the grin and sticking out her tongue before merrily waltzing out of sickbay, leaving her sister shaking her head.
Glancing back at Nathan, the smile fell from her face as she remembered what his current situation was, and she felt a surge of sympathy for him. “Hello, Doctor. I’m so terribly sorry to hear about what happened here while I was away...” Hesitating slightly, Megan finally looked him right in the eye, her expression serious. “I know you’re going through a hard time, and I can’t even begin to really understand, but let me assure you that I will do whatever I can and use whatever abilities or tools I have to get Freddy back to you. I won’t allow them to get away with this, Nathan.”

Looking at his captain and nodding his head of course he had no intention of taking the day off. The current problems far out weight a need for sleep, he could go a few days with no ill effect it was just a question of mind of matter.
Docking with the Jefferson he saw Commander Garrett had already arrived a headed of them. He knew that she must of have pushed the ship as hard as he pushed his own. Which just gave more proof that something was not right. There was no way she should have beaten them back to the jefferson with a standard shuttle.
After docking and watching the Admiral and the captain head to the bridge he walked over to Commander Garrett shuttle. He closed his eyes and focused he could see a energy pattern very clever he thought to himself. They have fixed one of the design flaws, it wasn't much to go on and no senor would pick it up unless it was very focused and knew what to look for.
He walked out the shuttle bay and headed to the bridge he knew his captain would not be happy to see him on the bridge but thought he had enought problems to worry about then him. Arriving at the bridge he walked to his station and took over he started to go through the senor logs and see what he could come up with. He knew they had been searched already but a new look might not hurt <Tag Anybody>

Unknown location Freddie listened in horror as Caleb flung his words at their captor. He couldn't see the adult's face as it was too dark in the room, but he could clearly see the outline of Caleb's body beside him. The younger boy felt the oldest one tense, and tentatively, Freddie reached out to him. Yet, there was something that Caleb said that made him sit up straighter, his own tiny face twisted in fury.
"And if yours won't, mine will," he growled fiercely. It was actually more fierce than he felt, as he felt incredibly tiny and immensely scared, but he wouldn't let Caleb do this alone. "And you'd never know when he'd strike either," he challenged. Of course, his father would never actually kill anyone, but perhaps Jayden might. The thought of his father's partner made him look up, his eyes burning in a mix between hatred and fear. Yes, Jayden'd probably do it, he was certain. The boy had grown attached to the young marine, so much he almost thought of him as a second parent.
As a doctor, Nathan would know about poisons, and quite likely how to use them too. Freddie had a lecture on them once, when he'd accidently taken a detergent instead of lemonade from a cupboard.
Jefferson “Hello, Doctor.
No, of course she wouldn't understand what it was like when your child was missing, and your other child was threatened. Nathan was about to retort when he caught her promise. Nodding once, he straightened a little. "I know you will," he answered flatly. Coming from her, he had no reason to doubt the promise, as he knew what she was capable of. "Is Captain Reynolds back yet? There's something I need to discuss with him."
Despite his outward signs of defeat, the doctor's eyes burned with anger. He wouldn't discuss it with Megan, as he knew she could easily stop him dead in his tracks. "It's important," he added, as a nurse handed his daughter back to him.
"Your father has fallen asleep," she clarified, "I assumed you'd want her back."
"Thank you," he replied curtly, before turning back to the first officer. "My father was injured in the attack," he said harshly, "they injured an old man to get at four young children. If I get my hands on them..." He didn't finish, shocked at his own words. He shook his head in disgust, not at Megan, but at himself. "Get the boys back Megan," he then pleaded, "I don't know how Matt took the news, but Jason is beside himself."
The doctor hesitated, looking between Megan and his daughter, seeming indecisive for a moment. "Commander, can I ask you a favour?" he then asked, feeling that he was owed something at least, even though he'd never really mention it. "Could you watch Angelique for an hour or so? I really don't want to call on Jayden again, the poor man's already been at my beck and call the last few days and he has his own duties. I need a moment to myself and I'd like to spend that in the ship's pool. It would mean a lot to me if you would do this...." He held out the sleeping infant. "She's been fed and changed, so she should remain sleeping."

"Is Captain Reynolds back yet? There's something I need to discuss with him,” the doctor stated, his eyes blazing with barely contained fury, he added, “It’s important."
“His shuttle was a short distance behind mine, so if he hasn’t already arrived, he should very shortly,” Megan replied, concerned at his harsh anger. Her reply went mostly unheard, however, as a nurse approached and handed him his daughter.
"My father was injured in the attack. They injured an old man to get at four young children. If I get my hands on them..." Nathan’s outrage was unmistakable as well as understandable. Glancing over at a sleeping Peter van Breughel, Megan was reminded of her own grandfathers, and felt a surge of fury as well. Anyone who’d do something like this to an elderly man to kidnap innocent children was despicable.
"Get the boys back, Megan," the doctor pleaded, drawing her attention back to him and Angel. "I don't know how Matt took the news, but Jason is beside himself."
Remembering the look of anguish on Matt’s face, Commander Garrett hoped she would never have to see that look ever again. She was about to reply that Captain Reynolds was taking it about as badly as could be expected, when Nathan spoke up again. "Commander, can I ask you a favor?" the doctor began hesitantly, and instantly Megan’s guard was up. This can’t be good... “Could you watch Angelique for an hour or so? I really don't want to call on Jayden again; the poor man's already been at my beck and call the last few days, and he has his own duties. I need a moment to myself and I'd like to spend that in the ship's pool. It would mean a lot to me if you would do this..." he added as he carefully held the sleeping child out for her to take. "She has been fed and changed, so she should remain sleeping."
Staring in shock at Nathan, thinking he must be joking, Megan waited for him to say so, but he didn’t. He was serious. Glancing from him to the innocently dozing baby in his arms, she considered the request. It was completely inconvenient, no beyond inconvenient, and technically she should be devoting her time and energy into finding Freddy and the others, but the pain in his eyes stopped her from saying just that. This wasn’t something he asked lightly, and could she really say no to the man whose son had been kidnapped? Unfortunately, there was no way out of this.
“Alright,” she agreed keeping her expression neutral as she accepted the child from his arms and quickly shifted her into a comfortable position with enough ease to give away a level of familiarity. “Just let me know when you’re back in sickbay, and I’ll come by and drop her off,” Megan requested, thinking that better than Nathan tracking her down, especially considering she had no idea where to take an infant.
After the doctor left, Commander Garrett was left standing with the sleeping baby in her arms and no idea what to do. There was so much work to be done, but she didn’t exactly have a place where work and childcare mixed. Catching a few of the nurses watching her she glanced over at them, and they all suddenly appeared to be quite preoccupied. Megan had a horrible feeling that they were either laughing at her finding the First Officer taking care of a baby funny or thinking that she had no idea what she was doing. She did know; however, their looks helped her rule out taking the baby to the bridge, not that she would have actually done it anyway.
Her quarters would work she supposed, as they were private, fairly well secured, and provided her with access to most of her work. Megan was on her way there when she got an even better idea: the Sommers. It was also private, even more secure than quarters, had access to more of her work, and its holographic systems could provide just about anything the baby could need or want for a few hours at least. Only downside was getting by shuttlebay personnel, but that was easily remedied with the transporter. It was perfect. Within a few minutes, Commander Garrett was sitting at her station hard at work with Angel sleeping soundly in the holographic bassinet beside her. While making preparations, she had decided on a cover for the team, as well as a way to defer any suspicions at least for the visiting Admiral.
While she was working, Commander Pride approached the shuttle, which Megan thought very odd since no one knew she was in there, the stealth settings were on as usual, and the ship appeared to be offline. Checking the external sensors, she watched as he closed his eyes for a moment. When they opened, the expression on his face was one of confirmation, and not something she liked to see at all. ‘I’m going to have to keep my eyes on him...’ she thought, feeling his suspicious to be the most threatening currently. The last mission was going to have repercussions.
Her thoughts were interrupted by movement from Angel, and glancing down, the infant’s tiny eyes were beginning to screw up in preparation for crying. In the hopes of preventing a meltdown, Megan quickly lifted the half awake baby into her arms and over her shoulder before beginning to rub her back and sway back and forth. The child began to quiet, a tiny hand grabbing onto the collar of her uniform before she drifted off to sleep. Sighing in relief, Commander Garrett then realized that her work had just gotten a lot more difficult, but she didn’t want to risk waking the infant by moving her. The last thing she wanted was Nathan thinking she was an incapable failure as a babysitter, not that she really intended to make this a habit.
Deliberation over which task to attempt that wouldn’t wake Angel was cut short by an incoming message. Checking the signal, she recognized it as black ops and winced. If it was the team, this would be an irreparable first impression, one that would not help her as far as command went. The Admiral would be embarrassing, but at this point, she’d prefer it be him, so when his face appeared on the screen, she felt another flood of relief. “Admiral,” Megan acknowledged, and at the look of amusement on his face, added, “If you say one word, I’m taking that favor back.”
Grinning, he chose to believe her, and moved on. “I’ve got a team assembled for you. They’re not mine, but I borrowed them. They have a good reputation, and I’m familiar with their leader. He’s a fine officer. They should be there in eight hours or less. They’re bringing their own ship, which will be disguised as a runabout. Have you decided how you’re going to play this with your shipmates?” the Admiral asked.
“Actually yes, Megan replied, keeping her voice low so as not to disturb the baby. “I’ll need to speak with them before they arrive, so they’ll know how to play it. I do hope they’ve already been informed that I’m in the lead on this one. It’s never easy to command someone else’s team, but it is easier if you have the right authority.”
“They’ve been told,” Dave replied. “I gave their superior my level of authorization, and transferred it to you, so they know perfectly well that you far outrank them. It can help, but you know how these teams and even other agents are...” he warned.
“I know...” Megan cut him off. “But I’m not in this to make friends. This is business, and they won’t like me, but they’ll respect me and my authority. Even if they think they know better and could do much better without me, but they’ll do their jobs in spite of the fact they’re all just opinionated, controlling, hard-headed know-it-alls.”
“Which you never are...” the Admiral countered sarcastically, earning a mild glare.
“It’ll be fine,” Commander Garrett insisted. “I know how to handle these guys. I’ve done it often enough. Just send me their comm frequency and general location, and I’ll contact them before they arrive and provide them with a situational overview.”
“Sounds like a plan,” he replied, before grinning slightly, and adding. “It suits you by the way.” At her confused frown, he grinned wider and added, “Mommy...” before the screen went dark. Shaking her head, Megan rolled her eyes at her superior in annoyance, even as a tiny smile acknowledged that he was pretty funny sometimes.
Glancing down at the peaceful infant in her arms, the smile softened. “You are the sweetest little thing...” Megan whispered softly as she planted a gently kiss on her tiny forehead before resting her cheek against the soft hair and holding her close.

Matt Reynolds could only reply Valad's question with a weak smile because in truth he didn't know how anyone could help at this point. His son was missing and until he was home at his side nothing was right. In a few moments he was going to announce to the crew that he was relinquishing command of the Jefferson and at that point in time he didn't really care if he ever got command back.
"Admiral please follow me to the bridge," Matt said as he stepped off the Seraph. The shuttlebay engineers watched on silently as their grief stricken captain walked passed them without speaking or acknowledging their presence. He noticed that Mc had given them orders, but didn't stick long enough to know what they were. The short walk to the turbolift was one of the most awkward Matt had ever experienced. When members of his crew saw him coming they immediately quieted and clung to the wall like they had been glued there.
"Deck One," Matt said as Mc entered the lift," thank you for doing this for me. They will serve you till the end."
The reaction that he had received at the shuttlebay had been replicated on the bridge. Everyone immediately quieted down and waited for Matt to say a word.
"Monica, give me ship wide," Matt ordered as he looked at his closest friend on the Jefferson. She had clearly been crying and from past experience Matt knew that she had yet to take a rest.
"You have ship wide captain," Monica said from her console.
"This is Captain Matthew Reynolds, as you know four children, Doctor van Breghel's son Freddie, my son Caleb and nephews were kidnapped off the Jefferson. Are mission is to rescue them at all cost. I realize that I cannot be an effective leader at this time, so as of this moment I'm relenquishing command of the USS Jefferson to Vice Admiral MC 7 of 9. The Admiral is now your commanding officer, Reynolds out," Matt said as he transferred his command codes over to Mc," take good care of her."
(Mc)
Not wanting to be on the bridge for any amount of time, Matt quickly made his exit and headed towards his quarters. He could access all the information available to him from there. Whoever had done this was smart enough to create a big enough distraction to distract everyone from their true intentions. The fact that a bomb was placed on the Jefferson and then the children stolen made Matt think that someone on his ship was involved.
"Matt, where are my children? Where the hell are my children!" Jason Reynolds asked desperatly. His brother had always been the strong one and to see him broken like this scared Matt to the core.
"We'll get them back, Mc is in command. He will do everything humanly possible to get them back," Matt said as he took his brother by the arms and led him to Matt's quarters. Matt knew that loosing Angel had been difficult for his brother, but this would surley break him.
"I can't loose them too, they are all I have left," Jason sobed openly. Matt had seen his brother cry only once before and it hurt him to know that he couldn't help him. It hurt him to know that he would be okay if they only found Caleb and not Jason's sons.
"Jason we need to keep our heads on," Matt said as he placed his brother on the nearest couch," we are expereience officers, with an experienced crew who will not stop until they are found. Breakingdown will not help our children. They need you to be strong for them because they are depending on you to save them. Now here drink this."
Jason had never been a hard drinker, but he gulped the liquor like it had been water. Matt quickly gave him another shot of it before attending to door which had been beeping for quite a while now. He knew it was Kristin, but he had to make sure his brother was okay first.
"I'm sorry for not getting....." Matt began to say before Kristin began to cry in his arms.
"I'm sorry I wasn't there to protect him," Kristin said between sobs," I should have been there with them!"
Matt knew that there was no point in telling her that it wasn't her fault. She was blaming herself for what happened and for a fraction of second Matt felt annoyed with her. It was then and there that Matt realized that Kristin cared for Caleb like one of her own. Caleb was no longer just her boyfriends son and deep down that realization made Matt extremely happy.
"We'll find him, but we need to get to work," Matt said as he tried his best to comfort the two other closest people in his life," I'm going to sickbay. I need to speak with Nathan. I know that he is going through hell right now too."
"I"ll see you when you get back," Kristin said before returning back to her post.
"Computer where is Nathan van Breughel?"

Looking at the senor logs to see if anything was a miss, nothing showed up and since the Jefferson was not at the orginal point when the kids disappeared he couldn't sense anything. Things were going to get bad before they got better. Looking around he thought a shower and change of uniform would be a good idea.
Leaving the bridge he headed for his quarters he really didn't know anybody so he kept to himself. Arriving at his quarters he saw gear still packed and spotted Sandy he felt her before he sas her. She was not happy with him being gone so long picking up his fury lizard he walked or to the com pannel and saw he had a message from the his home world.
sitting down he activated the message it was coded and would do anybody anygood with out the key. He started decoding the message it was from his family they were worried about his questions on Commander Garrett and take a interst on what was going.
" Dear Son, You were right to be concerned it took a lot of quite questions to secure sources. Some of which might have reported back to the people who she works for. Becareful there is more to her then what appears to be seen. We are concerned she may be involved with star fleet intelligence we can not confirm but are working on it.
We will update you if possible she seems to have high placed friends who are blocking us on the matter not matter how much pressure we apply. We were only able to gather little bits of information. Your input on her ship was correct it is classified to the hight levels but we were able to confirm construction and locatin at the are you asked for. Be safe son these federation people do not always pratice what they say. If something happens to you rest assured the federation will pay a price unlike anything they have seen before"
Looking at the message it confirm awhole lot other then she was protected by high ranking officer. What was her mission why was she here if she worked for somebody else what could she gain being on the Jefferson.

“Just let me know when you’re back in sickbay, and I’ll come by and drop her off.”
Nathan offered a grateful smile, considered giving her a hug but just as quickly dismissed the idea as a dangerous move. "Thank you commander," he replied formally, before practically dashing out of sickbay.
Minutes later, he eased himself into the warm water of the ship's pool, delighted by the feel of it. For several minutes, he just hung beside the edge. After a while, he climbed out and headed for the highest ramp. Looking down, he remembered what a fool he'd made of himself the last time he'd tried this. He grimaced at the memory of needing saving because he'd slipped on the ramp and cracked his skull against it.
Of course, that wouldn't happen this time; there was no competition involved. He took a deep breath then sprinted to the edge, feeling the board bounce beneath his feet. With near perfect timing, he bounced off, twisted and dove face first into the deep end of the pool. He felt the rush of the water past his ears, feeling his body glide through. For a second, the tips of his fingers touched the bottom of the pool, before he launched himself back up to the surface.
He repeated this procedure a few times, before finally settling into a lazy breaststroke across the pool. When he got out to try a different ramp, he spotted Matt standing on the side. Briefly, anger welled up at him as he stalked towards his commanding officer. His gaze was one of pure fury, but it disappeared just as quickly. Instead, he just wrapped his still dripping arms around Matt and pulled him into a tight hug, saying nothing at all.
After a few seconds, he released Matt and took a step back. The look that he cast the younger man was haunted. "I'm sorry," he finally whispered, after a very long silence, "my father took the boys to the holodeck and they were ambushed there. I was asleep at the time, as my father thought to relieve me for a while so I could get some rest. Jayden stayed with Angelique, but otherwise security was horribly lacking. I don't think any security officer was in attendance when they went."
He paused, reaching for his bathrobe, pulling it tightly around his body. "My father didn't have a chance, they attacked him from behind." He shook his head in disgust. "He's recovering in sickbay, but please, don't say anything to him. He feels terribly guilty already, when it wasn't his fault."
For a moment, an awkward silence fell. "I'm going to get dressed," Nathan suddenly announced, then tapped his combadge. "Commander Garrett, I'll be back in sickbay in approximately fifteen minutes. Could you stop by then?" He looked back at Matt. "Did you find anything while you were away?" he asked, almost accusingly, "is there any news that I should know about?"
Of course, he was unaware of his old friend MC7of9 being aboard. "Did you find who is behind the threats towards me and my daughter? Towards the others that are victimised as I am?"

=/\=This is Captain Reynolds. As you know, four children, Doctor van Breughel’s son, Freddie, my son, Caleb, and nephews were kidnapped off the Jefferson. Our mission is to rescue them at all cost. I realize that I cannot be an effective leader at this time, so as of this moment, I’m relinquishing command of the Jefferson to Vice Admiral MC7of9. The Admiral is now your commanding officer; Reynolds out.=/\=
Well that certainly changed a lot of things, but Megan wasn’t entirely sure if it was a good thing or a bad thing. It meant that she wouldn’t be dealing with Matt, who had been growing more suspicious and was not in a rational state of mind at the moment, but it also meant dealing with an unknown, a higher ranked unknown. For now, she decided to look at it as a good thing and take advantage of the positives it provided. The First Officer had been toying with an idea, a new way of dealing with her current situation, but that would have to be put on hold or at least modified for the time being. She would just have to deal with things whenever they came up.
She was terribly tempted to contact the team on its way to their position, but with Angel still sleeping nearby, it was best not to risk it. Appearances and control was all part of the game, and it would be impossible to pull off an authoritative, in charge, high-level superior if she had to excuse herself to tend to a crying infant. No, it was best to wait until there were fewer uncontrollable elements involved. Glancing at the peacefully sleeping child, Megan’s expression softened again. It had been so long since she’d been the neighborhood babysitter. She adored children, imagining when she grew up she’d have four, two girls and two boys, and would teach music.
Shaking the thoughts from her head, Megan drew her attention back to her work. That had been a long time again, and her life was very different. She had no real regrets, but she did miss some of the simplicity, the basic things in life that most people had or would have at some point. When the then Cadet Garrett had signed up with Black Ops, she’d put all of that behind her, but it hadn’t been done blindly.
=/\=Commander Garrett, I will be back in sickbay in approximately fifteen minutes. Could you stop by then?=/\= the doctor's voice requested over the comm channel.
“Acknowledged, Doctor,” Megan replied quietly so as not to wake Angel. “I should be there when you arrive.” Closing the channel, the First Officer sighed and looked down at the sleeping child once more. So young and innocent, yet already in grave danger...this was why she could never have this. She had made the right decision.
Fifteen minutes later, and Megan rematerialized in sickbay with a now awake and happy baby in her arms. Angel had only been awake a short while and fortunately didn’t seem to need or want anything except some interaction. The Commander had replicated a small toy for her, one that her own mother had replicated for her. It was called a glowworm, a soft, fluffy stuffed worm in pale green, yellow, and pink with big blue eyes whose tail lit up when it was hugged. Pretty simple technology, but the infant seemed to appreciate it. Nathan had arrived a few moments earlier, so the First Officer crossed sickbay and gently handed his daughter back to him.
“She only woke up a few minutes ago and didn’t seem to want or need anything. I replicated the toy…I hope that’s alright. She’s been asleep almost the whole time.”

Sitting in his quarters he was a little confused on what he should do next. He couldn't go to the captain with what he had it wasn't enough. Oh it was enough to start asking questions but if commander Garrett was being protected by somebody it would be easy to cover up.
The only possible thing he could think of was to start with the shuttle and go from there. " Computer whats Commander Garrett location right now" a few seconds passed "Commander Garrett is in sick bay'' Looking down at sandy while she sat on his lap and stroking her behind her ear's " Well Sandy I think I need to have a closer look at the Commander ship but how to go about it with out her knowing is going to be the tough part"
" Computer access my personal log and find reference's to Shuttle alpha 1046. Scan my log and find design flaws described in my report and display" a few minutes went by and the report showed up on his view screen. Normally test pilots were allowed access to the logs to update them for later reporting if they thought of anything else that need to be repaired or changed.
Finding what he need he picked up sandy and took her with him she was more then happy to come along. He knew he couldn't get into the shuttle but sandy on the other hand could and that was all he would need for now. Entering the shuttle bay it was empty for the most part crews were still working on the captains shuttle complaining about the engine damage and hull stress.
Walking over to Commander Garrett shuttle he went to port side and found what he needed. a plasma vent. Careful he opened the vent making sure not to access the systems inside quietly he picked Sandy up and placed her in the vent. Closing his eyes and sinking up with his little fury friend he started to see what she saw as she crawled through the vents. She would not be able to get inside but thats not what he need right now. She worked her way back to one of the power relays and sure enough he saw the first signs of a high tech warp corp. It was not standard one by any means.
Not wanting to waste anytime he touch Sandy mind and she slowly made her way back to the vent opening. She crawled out and wrapped her self around him changing color's to blend in with his uniform. At first glance people would just think he was a big guy but a closer inspection would show a snake like creature wrapped around his body.
Replacing the vent cover he walked over to the repair crews and chatted with them for a few moments. It seemed his new found friends were quite up set about the damage he had done to the captains shuttle " Sorry guys I test piloted the first version and knew the limits of it design trust me I wont do it again but the captain and missing kids" with that the crew seemed lighten up and start talking he probed them about Commander Garrett shuttle and got what he needed. It seemed she never let anybody work on it but herself.
Walking back to his quarters he happened to pass by sick bay, Sandy was not happy because she wanted to go home. He still need to gather some more information and decided to go in. He saw Commander Garrett talking to somebody he didn't know and also saw a very young child with here.
Keeping quite he figured he wait until somebody noticed him. It would take long with a fury snake hanging around his body changing colors because it wanted attention. <Tag anybody>

After taking his leave of Matt, surprised at himself and somewhat proud too over the fact that he hadn't taken a swing at the younger man. He really had wanted to punch Matt, and have a good rant about the lack of security on the Jefferson. However, as soon as he saw the grief on Matt's face, his resolve had crumbled and instead he found himself hugging his captain.
Shaking his head, sending droplets of water flying everywhere, he entered sickbay. He smiled thinly when he saw Megan stood in the middle of the medical bay, cradling a wide awake infant who clutched a brightly coloured item to her chest. His smile warmed as he approached and held out his arms. "Thank you so much commander," he said, his voice grateful, "I really needed that break."
He turned, then froze when he saw someone with a huge snake wrapped around his shoulders emerge from the shadows. Instinctively, he pulled the baby closer to his chest, protectively wrapping his arms around her. Upon taking a closer look, he noticed the person was wearing a red collar under his uniform and the snake had the exact colours of his uniform. Taking an even closer look, he finally recognised the person. "Commander Pride, what is that creature doing in my sickbay," he demanded, "do you know how dangerous that is?"
Quite likely no more dangerous than his felines walking around in his office, or the fact that he had an infant in his arms in the middle of what was a crisis, insofar the disappearance of the children was concerned. At least the nurse was finally leaving her monster dog at home, for which he was both grateful and glad.
"And what are you doing in sickbay?" he continued, still cradling the baby as close as was possible.
~later~
Nathan had returned home after spending a few hours in sickbay; he just wasn't mentally up for the tast right now even though he cared for his patients to the best of his abilities. Hannah had noticed and together with Donovan had banded against him and sent him home.
Surprisingly, Jayden was there, waiting for him and the marine didn't altogether look happy. "Why didn't you call me?" he demanded, "I would've taken care of her."
"Not now Jayden," Nathan sighed as he walked into the bedroom to place Angel in her crib. "I'm really not in any mood for arguments."
"You should've called me," he insisted.
"No, you had your duties to attend to," Nathan retorted angrily, resenting the fact that he was forced to have this conversation, "and you were already up all night caring for her. It wasn't fair. Now please...don't start."
"You have your duties too," Jayden persisted, "and you need the rest more than I do. Do you want another heart attack?"
That was too much and before he realised it, Nathan had swung out, his left hand connecting hard with Jayden's right cheek. The smack was so loud, it shocked him so much he stood frozen in place, staring.
Automatically, Jayden's own hand went to his cheek, feeling the warmth emanate from where Nathan had struck him. His eyes were wide with shock and hurt and he just stared ahead. Almost immediately, he felt strong arms wrap around his shoulders, felt himself being puled forward.
"I'm so sorry," Nathan murmured, holding his partner close to him, as close as his strength allowed him to hold. "That was so uncalled for, I'm sorry. Please forgive me."
Jayden wanted to retort but the anguish in the doctor's voice was so much, he gave. Quietly, he patted the doctor's back, while his other hand ran through his hair. "It's all right, I understand," he whispered back, "don't worry." His fingers fastened themselves in his partner's hair, locking him in place. He reached up with his other hand, pushing nathan slightly away before leaning up for a kiss. "I really don't mind watching her, I see it as my duty to do it. Truly, I don't mind."
"I know," Nathan whispered back, "but she's my daughter, I should be doing it. I just needed some time alone, and didn't want to bother you. I had Commander Garrett watch her, she was safe. I do not trust anyone with her but the commander or you. You know that."
Jayden nodded, reluctantly releasing him. "Just call me next time."
Nathan nodded in promise, ruefully watching the dark discolouration on the marine's cheek. "I'm sorry," he said again, "do you want me to take care of it?"
"No. Now why don't you lie down. You look far too pale and your hands are shaking. I'll be here, watching over you, I promise."

"Thank you so much, Commander. I really needed that break,” Nathan greeted her gratefully as he reached out to take his daughter, who was fortunately still happy.
“It was no trouble,” Megan replied honestly, feeling almost sad to let her go. Her tricorder was insistently indicating someone was in close proximity to the Sommers, and while that usually turned out to be an engineer who leaned up against the hull while talking to someone or crawling underneath to retrieve something that rolled there, it always made her nervous, especially under these current circumstances.
When Commander Pride entered, Megan immediately noticed something about him looked...off. Not only that, but he was watching her closely. Suddenly, she was fairly certain who’d been snooping around her shuttle, and it wasn’t the engineers. She wasn’t looking directly at him, but out of the corner of her eye. It appeared that they needed to have a talk. She was about to excuse herself from the doctor and quietly take the helmsman aside, when unfortunately, the doctor looked right at him.
"Commander Pride, what is that creature doing in my sickbay? Do you know how dangerous that is? And what are you doing in sickbay?" Nathan demanded, while taking a step back and holding his daughter closer to him prepared to defend her.
Now that she looked directly at the Commander, she could see that he did indeed have some sort of snake that was providing the illusion of him being more…built. “I will handle this, Doctor,” Megan informed Nathan before turning to the source of her current frustration. “Commander, we need to talk. You’re with me,” she ordered before striding out of sickbay at full speed expecting him to follow right behind her.
This needed to be handled delicately. They would need to have this conversation in private, but if he suspected her of being some kind of agent, he’d be on edge and suspicious, even think she was about to dispose of him or something ridiculous like that. She needed to find neutral ground. Her office, quarters, or shuttle was out, the turbolifts were too confined, his quarters were too...personal. Rounding the corner, she caught sight of a science lab, and realized that there was one a few sections away that was not currently in use. It would have to do, so she headed straight there.
Stepping into the darkened room before him, Commander Garrett raised the lights and turned to face the navigator. “I should have realized that with your ability and your previous assignments, you’d be able to see the energy patterns masking my shuttle and recognize it for what it was. Even so, once I became aware of this, I’d figured it would only make you mildly suspicious, not send you out on a manhunt.”
Pausing for effect, Megan observed his body language for reaction. He appeared relaxed, but she knew better. He was probably ready to defend himself at a moment’s notice, something she could appreciate. “What I’m about to say doesn’t leave this room, Commander, but it’s not what you think. Before assigned to the Jefferson, I was an agent in another branch of Starfleet, but due to circumstances beyond my control, I had no choice but to resign and to request a standard duty assignment.”
“My record is still sealed and will remain so. I still have friends in high places, and the skills I gained as an agent, but my current assignment is the Jefferson’s First Officer, a job I take very seriously. As for my shuttle, it was my personal craft while I was an agent, and upon my promotion to First Officer was given to my by one of those friends in high places. Considering its stealth systems, I didn’t think anyone here would notice and figured it’d be a valuable tool for future missions. Besides, I...well I missed it, to be honest. The Sommers and I went through a lot together.”
Pausing again, Megan looked him square in the eye. “I serve Starfleet, Commander, and I serve this ship and crew. My past is my past, and I’d like to keep it that way. It’s true that my training remains, but it makes me the officer I am and tends to be useful along with my connections. For example, right now a team is on its way to assist in recovering Captain Reynold’s son and the others. I called in an outstanding favor to help with their rescue. I can’t change the past. All I can do is ask that you trust me, as an officer and your superior. Now, if you can’t do that, I’d suggest you request for a transfer. My former superiors don’t take kindly to people snooping in their records, mine included, and so if you can’t trust me on this just say so now.”

Nathan had returned to his office to feed his daughter, who had woken up yet again. He remembered from when his son was still a baby that infants had to be fed regularly, several times a day. Of course, his training as a paediatrician had also immediately kicked in upon the baby's arrival, which helped tremendously. Another helpful factor was Jayden; ever present and very faithful Jayden.
A frown creased his brow as he stared down at the angelic creature in his arms, cradling her closer to him as she happily suckled, her tiny hands trying to grab the glass bottle. Quietly, trying not to jostle the infant, he rose to his feet. "I'm going to the bridge," he told Donovan, who was standing close by. "Please tell Jayden to meet me there, it is important and it can't wait. If he asks, tell him it won't take him away from his duties too long."
"Of course," the young marine answered, then quietly paged his fellow marine and explained in hushed words what was expected.
Nathan in the mean time hurried out without a backward glance. Anyone seeing him stride past would see an anxious doctor who was in a fair hurry. He seemed oblivious to anyone in his path, though by some sheer miracle, managed not to run into anyone and just steer clear every time.
Slightly out of breath, he arrived on the bridge where Jayden was already waiting. The younger man had an inquistive look on his face, but said nothing. "This won't take long," Nathan promised, offering a wry smile, "it's just something that needs to be done. It's very important, to me." Briefly explained to Jayden what he had in mind, and the younger man's eyes lit up in delight and gratitude. "Hold her please."
Nathan turned and strode towards the captain's chair, unaware that Matt wasn't sitting in it, or wasn't even on the bridge. "Captain, I-" He broke off when the chair turned around and took a step back in surprise. He blinked, trying to determine whether he was dreaming or in fact quite awake. Breath caught in his throat as he examined the tall male before him, a smile spreading across his face. "MC!" he finally exclaimed, though he remained rooted to the spot, unsure of whether to simply hug him as old times, or keep a respective distance because they were in public.
When he finally found his composure again, he cleared his throat. "What are you doing here?" he then asked. He had been under water at the time of Matt's announcement, and thus had failed to hear the 'news' that had been broadcasted. Still no giving the admiral any time to respond, he gestured to Jayden and the baby. "I was going to ask Captain Reynold's permission to have Jayden adopt my daughter," he explained his presence on the bridge, "just in case of..." He faltered, unable to finish the sentence.
He looked up after taking another several deep breaths, feeling somewhat embarassed and betrayed by his own feelings. They were mixed and he felt slightly torn, which showed in his eyes. Jayden walked up to them, saluting smartly while still keeping a secure hold on the infant in his arms. "Welcome aboard admiral, Nathan has told me much about you," he said, saving his partner the embarassment. He too took another deep breath. "Lance Corporal Jayden Mitchell sir," he added, as if in afterthought.

Looking at the Doctor and how excited he was getting Sandy was picking up on emotions in the room and getting a little protective.
"Commander Pride, what is that creature doing in my sickbay," he demanded, "do you know how dangerous that is?"
Looking back at the Doctor " I would not be to concerned she is quite safe and my protector, she has been cooped up for awhile and needed to get out. A cage is no place to live for any living life form. But I will leave if it will make you feel better sir"
Looking right at Commander Garrett when she said she wanted to talk to him. He already had a idea about what she wanted to talk about it. He was already on edge around her and Sandy picked up on it and became defensive as he followed her out of sick bay. He was a little more relaxed when she opted for a empty science lab netural ground. She was clever if anything he thought to himself.
“What I’m about to say doesn’t leave this room, Commander, but it’s not what you think. Before assigned to the Jefferson, I was an agent in another branch of Starfleet, but due to circumstances beyond my control, I had no choice but to resign and to request a standard duty assignment.”
Sandy was still on guard as he looked at her " It's funny Commander my sources say you never really resign just go on leave until they need you again. Once you are in you are in no matter how much you want out."
My record is still sealed and will remain so.
He didn't trust her so he kept his eye's on her he was no fool she was a highly trained operative. If he gave a her a opening it might be his last from his point of view, thankful Sandy was watching her as well and waiting for any sign of a threat. The Commander would have her hands full if she striked.
" I'm sorry Commander I have Flown a lot of ships some more advance then yours. I dont believe that they gave it to you out of the kindness of there heart. If you can't see the strings attached to it maybe you should open your eye's. Currently there are only 6 shuttles today with that technology and they are all listed as being in use.
The last comment set him on edge a team on there way here to the Jefferson. He couldn't believe she didn't see what was happening. " Commander for the moment I will hold my Judgement, I serve the Jefferson you can't serve to masters Commander for no simplere term. As for Trust and a transfer well a transfer will not be needed at the moment. As for trust thats earned Commander never handed out. I will follow your orders Commander until they interfer with starfleet regs and the Captains. Which they will sooner or later I have seen this before more then you will ever know on the Scavenger. It never works out the way you think it will and as for the team. Well you think it might be a favor but with all favors Commander come strings and payement on a future date. You don't think it will cost me something for the info I was able to get on you. My family will make sure I remember the favor at a future date. So for the moment we are at a impass. I will obey you Commander I will not challenge you in front of the crew. I just hope you know what your doing and that it doesn't get anybody hurt."
With that being said he turned and left with out being dismissed. It was more of a test to see if he could trust her. It didn't hurt Sandy was watching her as they left and would have striked if she attempted anything.

Mc7 followed his friend onto the Bridge as he requested. At moments like this he was not a senior officer to Matt, but rather a friend who would walk to the ends of the universe to ensure he was reunited with his son. Matt asked one of his crew to open a comm channel to the whole ship, allowing him to address his entire crew,
"This is Captain Matthew Reynolds, as you know four children, Doctor van Breghel's son Freddie, my son Caleb and nephews were kidnapped off the Jefferson. Are mission is to rescue them at all cost. I realize that I cannot be an effective leader at this time, so as of this moment I'm relinquishing command of the USS Jefferson to Vice Admiral MC 7 of 9. The Admiral is now your commanding officer, Reynolds out," Matt tapped a few commands on the console of the arm rest on the Captains chair, finishing his thought as he done so" take good care of her."
Seconds after he had finished typing the voice of the ships computer came across the speakers on the Bridge,
"Command codes transferred. Commanding Officer of the USS Jefferson is now Vice Admiral Mc7_of_9."
Before the computer had finished announcing the transfer of commands, Matt had already left the Bridge. Mc7 sat in the Captains chair and began to review reports of the Jefferson's status, both the physical ship and her crew. She had been through some tough times, and there was no light at the end of the tunnel yet. It would be his job to ensure that the crew got through this particularly tough time, and be in a fit state for him to hand command back to Matt. He briefly thought about making an address to the crew, but decided to hold off on that until he was fully up to speed on what had happened, and what the plan was to get the children back.
Tapping the comm badge which was in its customary place on his chest Mc7 spoke, "Mc7 to Commander Garrett, please report to the ready room in 30 minutes to brief me on the Jeffersons' status, and where we are with the kidnapping. Mc7 out"
Ten minutes after Matt relinquished the Bridge, Mc7 heard the turbolift doors part, but didn't look up from the hastily written report from one of the Medical department outlining how the recent run of events were already having an effect on the morale of the crew. Mc7 really didn't need a report to tell him the effect of having a group of children abducted from the ship would have on the ships compliment, least on the parents and families of the children themselves.
A voice which Mc7 recognised almost immediately began to speak, causing him to look up and see a face which he had not seen in years. As soon as the two sets of eyes met, so much that could never be said on the Bridge of a Starship was exchanged between the two men. Nathan explained why he, and evidently his new partner Jayden, were on the Bridge. Mc7 took a second to adjust to the situation. He really shouldn't be surprised that Nathan had a new partner, after all it had been years since they had been together, but he had not been expecting this.
"Shall we go into the ready room to talk about this? It doesn't seem as if it is something that the entire Bridge crew needs to be involved in."
Mc7 made the suggestion, but given it was Nathan's requested he was going to leave the decision on how to proceed with him.

Heading back to his quarters to drop off sandy he had a lot of things to think about. Already he had concerns a black ops team on the way to the Jefferson. He didn't think the captain or the admiral knew about it. It would seem that Commander Garrett was already on her own program which concerned him.
She was right she had high rank officer protecting her and didn't really have anything to offer as proof. Thinking about it some more the only thing he could do was watch for the moment and see what happens. His dealings with black ops were never good they answered to nobody accept there own Commanders. They had there own plans and ways of doing things they might be help then again they might not time would only tell.
He was going to be even more guarded then ever around Commander Garrett it was going to be a strain. Stopping at his quarters he let sandy wonder off in to the bed room, she wasn't happy either she was very protective of him. Then again it had been her job since her berth to watch and protect him. For the moment it would be best to keep her in his quarters away from Commander Garrett if she detected a threat she would attack with out question.
Leaving his quarters he headed for the bridge there just wasn't anything left for him to do but wait. Arriving on the bridge he saw the admiral he never really had any dealings with this admiral but the few things he had gathered was he could be trusted. He was looking forward to see how Commander Garrett was going to explain the team if she would come clean or give a cover story. Taking his station he just waited to see what events were going to unfold.
He started going over the senors logs again this time he focused on the readings trying to see if he could get anything. Patterns could be hidden you just had to take the time and unfold them. His eyes were closed and his breathing slowed very slowly he let his mind wonder in the patters with his breathing slowing some people might think he was dead. Soon he was working on the patters record in the senor log it wasn't going to be easy but there had to be something there.<Tag anybody>

"Shall we go into the ready room to talk about this? It doesn't seem as if it is something that the entire Bridge crew needs to be involved in."
Still stunned, Nathan nodded, then waited for the admiral to lead the way. He was still wondering what was going on, and why his old friend was here and, apparently in command of the Jefferson. He locked gazes with Jayden, who didn't look too happy at having witnessed what had transpired between the two men. Belatedly, the doctor remembered his partner's empathic abilities and cast him an apologetic look.
He didn't like the torn feelings, the confusion he felt, but he couldn't deny he was most happy with Jayden. Once they were in the readyroom, Jayden handed him the baby back and Nathan smiled, the smile of a very happy man. Cradling the child, he looked up. "Much has happened since we last met," he started, "too much to explain now, but perhaps later when this all is over, if you have the time." He swallowed, once. "I have missed you."
The young marine cleared his throat, indicating that he was still present and not appreciating the digging up of old memories. "As you may be aware," the doctor continued, "the baby's mother was killed shortly before her birth. I am her biological father, and she is part of the reason why the boys were taken." A pained expression crossed his face, mixed with a sense of anguish. "As Jayden is my partner, I'd like permission for him to adopt my daughter, just in case..." He just couldn't get himself to finish the sentence, and he looked away so his old friend wouldn't see the grief in his eyes.
This time, Jayden stepped forward. "I would gladly take the responsebility," he promised, "we've sort of discussed it before, even though Nate failed to tell me why I had to report here. Even so, I would love to take care of her, take that responsebility. She already is like a daughter to me." He didn't fail to notice that the request only concerned the baby, and not her older brother.
Nathan nodded. "I don't make this request lightly," he urged, "would you be able to formalise my request?" Hopeful eyes were now set on the admiral. "Please?" he added, almost begging for permission. He was desperate, and it showed.
Picking up on the desperate thoughts, Jayden closed his eyes for a few seconds. "Nathan, would you please wait outside? I'd like to talk to the admiral alone for a minute. It won't take long, I promise." Feeling the anguish, the marine gave his partner a comforting squeeze of the hand, before giving him a slight nudge towards the door.
When Nathan was gone, Jayden sighed. "It would mean a lot to us, his request," he started, "but I think you ought to know why." Quickly, he outlined how they'd met and suffered together when Nathan was under the influence of the telepathic Romulan. Then how they'd come closer together on Dorvan, how the doctor had suffered at their hands, and now the arrival of the baby and the boy's abduction. "Our relationship is very new," he acknowledged, smiling slightly, "but I wouldn't have it any other way. I'm aware of your history though, but it doesn't matter." He wasn't going to acknowledge his feelings of jealousy.
Quietly, he rose to his feet. "I am, however, grateful that it's you who is leading this search. At least someone he trusts implicitly is now in command of this mission."

Shaking her head at his and his...pet’s...retreating form, there was nothing Megan could do. Clearly either he’d had a bad experience with Section 31 and it’d tainted him towards any intelligence organization or he’d played too many ‘spy’ holodeck programs. Unlike Section 31, Starfleet Intelligence and Black Operations were far from the succeed at any cost, the ends justify the means mentality of some of the shadier independent and unsanctioned organizations. Intel and Ops were an official part of Starfleet and subject to most of the same rules and regulations. True, they were often placed in impossible situations where grey was the norm and black and white simplicity was something you only heard about in theory or read about in the history books. The rules often had to be bent to do the right thing, but agents were subject to extended sets of rules and regulations designed for tougher situations, and when things went wrong or a hard choice had to be made, they had their own way of judging the decision as well as the person who made it and deciding their fate.
Unfortunately, she couldn’t tell Commander Pride any of this. She couldn’t insist that she really had resigned, and that if she’d chosen to remain so, she still would be. She couldn’t explain her relationship with her superior officer, how his agents were his family, how she’d saved his life and risked her own several times to earn those favors, and how she was like a daughter to him. She couldn’t confirm that the shuttle really had been a gift, and if she’d declined his offer, he most likely would have let her keep it anyway. She also couldn’t tell him that there were far more than six shuttles like hers out there as that would only reveal her knowledge. And she most certainly couldn’t actually try to stop or fight with him, as that would only confirm his paranoid theories. No...there was absolutely nothing that she could do.
This was bad...really, really bad. The navigator posed a serious threat, not only to her cover as well as the organization, but also potentially to every mission including the current one. If he was constantly second guessing her, watching her for some sort of sign that she was about to reveal her true nature and transform into some evil traitor, she would have to devote time and effort into dealing with him, and he in turn could decide not to trust her at a crucial moment. Megan had tried to talk to him openly, telling him more than he should have needed to know, but what almost anyone else would have believed, he hadn’t, and while Starfleet wasn’t in the habit of eliminating people who got in the way, he was now a threat, and if necessary he would need to be dealt with somehow, putting her in a very uncomfortable position.
Trying to decide what to do, her thoughts were interrupted by a comm call. =/\=Mc7 to Commander Garrett, please report to the ready room in thirty minutes to brief me on the Jefferson’s status, and where we are with the kidnapping. Mc7 out.=/\=
“Acknowledged,” Megan replied, closing the channel and contemplating what to do with the thirty minutes she had before then. Admiral LaPage really did need to be informed of what had happened with Commander Pride, but she dreaded telling him. It felt like a failure on her part even if this was mostly out of her control. Still, it had to be done, but instead of contacting him again, she decided to do it a little more subtly. Taking advantage of the empty lab, she opened an encrypted link to her agent database and pulled up Pride’s file. She had already classified him and Captain Reynolds as level yellow threats due to their suspicions, but the helmsman had now far exceeded that, so she switched him to a level orange, potential level red.
It wouldn’t take long for the Admiral to notice the switch and contact her to discover what had happened, but that would give her some time to sort through what to tell him in her head. Now that she was already signed in, Megan perused some of the latest information and intelligence and was not particularly surprised to discover that there had been an attempted incursion into her files. Almost willing to bet latinum that Pride had something to do with it, Commander Garrett confirmed that it had indeed been from the planet where he had been raised and shook her head yet again at his persistence. She didn’t want to classify him as a level red threat, but he wasn’t making it easy. Dismissing her thoughts, the agent then focused on any information discovered possibly related to the kidnappings. There wasn’t much, but they were also working on locating the final members of the blackmailing ring they had just disbanded. Interrogations experts were speaking with the prisoners and analysts were pouring over the freighter’s records for any additional information that would lead to the whereabouts of the children and the remaining ring member.
So far not much had been uncovered, but it was still in progress and given a heavy priority. Frustrated by the scarcity of information, Megan had to abandon the search to go and speak with the current commanding officer. This would be yet another challenge. Arriving on the bridge a few minutes early, the Admiral was nowhere to be found, but a Lieutenant at the science station told her that he was in the ready room with Doctor van Breughel, so Commander Garrett decided to wait. Sitting in the command chair and using the side panel to check the results of her analysis of the sensor records from the kidnapping, the First Officer occupied herself with work while waiting for the doctor to exit, all while running through the plan in her head.

"Wow!" was all that went through Valad's mind as he got off the shuttle and back onto the Jefferson. It had been an incredible first mission and that mission had led into another. The one thing he could always count on was that life was never dull for a moment on a starship.
He continued to play the events on the station and the freighter over in his mind. And then there was the news from the Jefferson about the kids being kidnapped. He played in and played it, looking for some connection. Nothing seemed to make any sense at all. He couldn't piece anything together. One thing did stand out in his mind though. It was something that Commander Pride said on the station before he began tailing the group.
//Flashback\\ " I just placed a homing becan on her. I dont want to activate it until we know for sure we lost her incase there are active scans on the ship. Its a last resort but at least its something for the moment." taking a moment he didn't really know Valad. " you know I dont remember any type of training that geared you for this in star fleet it would seem more like special trainning would you say" //End Flashback\\
Commander Garrett? Special training? He had heard some lectures by First Officers at the academy, but none of them were as confident or as . . . aggressive. Many would consider that the feminism of the early 20th and 21st centuries, but this was different. Valad thougt that Pride may be on to something. But the time for that would come, and it was not now. Valad dismissed it as he walked to his quarters to deposit his belonings and prepare for a duty shift that he was going to take on to find those kids.
After a quick shower, valad heard Captain Reynolds over the comm. =/\= "This is Captain Matthew Reynolds, as you know four children, Doctor van Breghel's son Freddie, my son Caleb and nephews were kidnapped off the Jefferson. Are mission is to rescue them at all cost. I realize that I cannot be an effective leader at this time, so as of this moment I'm relinquishing command of the USS Jefferson to Vice Admiral MC 7 of 9. The Admiral is now your commanding officer, Reynolds out. =/\= What? Valad thought to himself. This is going to be a huge change. Now that the Admiral was in charge, he wondered what life on the Jefferson was going to be like.
Walking along the crew quarters until stopping at the one he intended to stop at, Valad tapped the door chime. A crewman answered and immediately stood at attention. Valad forgot he had been promoted. "Ummm. As you were," he said quickly. He walked over to the bunk to find the woman he had intended to see. "D'Etora, what the hell happened?"
She responded, weakly, "There was an explosion in the nacelle. It happened just before the kids were kidnapped."
Valad looked her over. "You're injured. Go to sickbay . . ."
"I'm fine!" she interrupted fiercely. He couldn't help but admire her Klingon vitality. Or is it stubborness?
"You're going to sickbay and that's an order."
"Pulling rank?" she asked, noticing his new pip.
"You leave me no choice, crewman." Valad smiled at D'Etora. "Come on. I'll take you up."
They walked out, with Valad supporting her from the waist. He could tell she wanted to fight him, but she didn't have the strength to. Soon enough they entered sickbay. "Is the Doctor around?" he asked.
"Not at the moment sir," a nurse replied. "We can look after her until he returns."
"Thanks." Valad laid D'Etora on the biobed. "Get some rest. Can I expect that I might be able to see you for a meal when you get out of here?"
She chuckled. "We'll have to see about that . . . . sir." And with that she passed out.
<tag Nathan for a diagnosis upon his return or another qualified person's diagnosis>
//ooc: Nathan has full authority to determine D'Etora's injuries.//
Valad walked onto the bridge. It was quiet. Almost too quiet. No one dared utter a sound. Valad relieved the officer on duty at the ops station, nodding to Commander Garrett as he walked by. He began sensor sweeping automatically, knowing full well he wasn't likely to find anything using conventional methods. He sighed and scanned again. Commander Pride, who was sitting next to him, seemed to not be getting anything either. Valad took the opportunity to send him an encrypted message.
:: Commander, on the station, you mentioned something about Commander Garrett. Would you mind explaining that to me, please?::
<tag Desert>
The ops console beeped indicating a message was being sent. He hoped Commander Garrett hadn't noticed it. "Sir, nothing is coming up on the scopes. Is there anything we know that might be able to tip us off to something we can pick up?"
