Ainsleigh was fascinated listening to Savot. What she wouldn't give to be able to study the new Gorn species.
"So far it seems the Gorn welcome and take great risk for these evolved Gorn." McLeod continued on her thought, "If it proceeds, then indeed we will have another strong empire to contend with." Ainsleigh conversationally proceeded with what she thought could also happen. "History has shown that too much change to fast can cause rifts in societies. Civil war many times accompany great change. Once whatever benefits the Gorn get out of these advanced Gorn is achieved, those unable to transform may feel left behind and resent it."
Changing the subject she requested of Savot, "I would like to get a look at their technology before the science ship arrives. My teams can finish the survey of the planet's ecosystem without me...", she paused not wanting to add the obvious. That once the other ship arrived the Gorn equipment would be whisked away and she would never get a chance to see it again until it was declassified.
As they continued their conversation the nagging thought at the back of McLeod's mind resurfaced, the Captain's pip. "Congratulations on your promotion Sir," with a nod of her head, she indicated his collar.

I would like to get a look at their technology before the science ship arrives. My teams can finish the survey of the planet's ecosystem without me..." Mcloed said
"I'd like to get a look over their weapon, cloak and defensive systems too" John added on the end of what she said, unsure about what Savot would say.
John looked towards Ainsleigh when the conversation seemed to continue, and just shrugged his shoulders, she looked a little dis heartened, and then spoke up about Savot's promotion to full CO of the El Sal, and the gold pip that came with it.

Listening to the xo and thinking for a moment. " So far sir I would say everything is going well for a first contact mission. Only exception is they are on a planet way out of there system and aren't know for peaceful science partys. So far they have answered all our questions but share your concerns about technology. I dont know whats up but there have been no weapson detected right now. Doesn't mean they dont have them they weren't suppose to have cloaks either. My team will keep a close watch and keep them contained to this sector. I still would like to know why there here why now. Whats so importan to risk a war just to study. I'm wondering if something is going on, on there home world thats causing this"
"I think that is a valid concern," agreed Kevin. "Let's see how things play out here before we get too concerned with interstellar politics, but do keep an eye out for anything that supports your analysis thus far."
=^=Bridge to Zimmerman. I have reached an accord with the Gorn commander; we're allowing the team on the surface to return to their vessel with the memory units from their equipment. In exchange for this data and our forgoing criminal charges for trespassing, they are to leave the equipment itself for Starfleet study. Given the low probability that they would use anything but their most sophisticated equipment for a matter of such critical importance to them, I found this arrangement acceptable. Organize the Gorn into groups for transport then catalogue the equipment and tag it for retrieval. A science vessel is on its way to our position to take posession, ETA 37.4 hours. There should be sufficient time after the Gorns' departure to complete our evaluation of the colony. Savot out.=^=
Kevin tapped his commbadge. "Aye, Captain. We've just arrived at the colony. I'll inform you as soon as we've cleared the area. Zimmerman out." He turned to Wolf. "If you could get the Gorn organized, I'll take a look at their equipment. Let's move as quickly as possible."
The Gorn seemed to understand what was going on, and Kevin met no resistance as he began methodically recording the equipment. In fact, two of the Gorn had started to move all the scanners, computers, and various assorted items into one location. Kevin did not entirely trust the Gorn, but they seemed willing to help, and had shown no signs of aggression, so Kevin left the suspicion and security to Wolf, who was supposed to be worried about such things.

Before Commander Zimmerman started looking over the equipment, he grabbed his shoulder and stopped him for a moment. " Sir this may be nothing but it does worry me alittle. we found the Gorn quite easly enough. I know we had senors and luck on your side, but still the sceintist on this planet total missed them. I"m not saying they couldn't have but, you would figure with all the senors they have to monitor the planet's progress they would have pickeded up the energy readings from the cloak or dampening fields. I would think that would throw up some kind of flag. It might be something you might want to check into how that much brain power could miss the gorn. "
He turned to his team and gave them the signal to help the Gorn gather the equipment. He motioned for this Gunney to come over " Gunney Clark keep a eye out for anything that doesn't fit you know what I mean" the Gunney nodded his head and started to explore the camp. Things just didn't fit well how did the gorn stay hidden for so long.

Mcleod seemed intrigued by the Gorn's situation, and when Savot had finished she posed a question, "I would like to get a look at their technology before the science ship arrives. My teams can finish the survey of the planet's ecosystem without me..." She tapered off not sure of the vulcan's reaction.
Savot paused only a moment in consideration before nodding, "Very well, Commander you may transport to the Gorn camp at your convenience. I recommend taking mechanical schematics first so that you can recreate the equipment on our holodeck for further study should the science vessel arrive before you've finished to your satisfaction."
Roberts voiced his own interest as well, "I'd like to get a look over their weapon, cloak and defensive systems too" John added unsure about what Savot would say.
"Their cloaking device is the only piece of said equipment on the surface and as such the only one we're able to confiscate under our agreement with the Gorn commander. Both Commander Zimmerman and Colonel Wolf are already at the camp and their abilities should prove more than adequate to study the cloaking device. It is; however, a relatively common old Klingon model therefore I doubt any significant data will be gleaned", the vulcan finished.
As Mcleod moved to leave the bridge she turned back for a moment towards Savot, "Congratulations on your promotion Sir," with a nod of her head, she indicated his collar.
Savot had not really forgotten about the promotion, per se, it just hadn't been in his active synapses during his meeting with the Gorn so he had started to raise an eyebrow then merely gave a polite nod to his science chief, "Thank you, Commander."

John listened to what Savot said, he thoguht a moment and began to wonder had there been any modifications, although it was quite easy to detect when they where looking for it, so John choose not to persue the request. The weapons aboard the ship however, could be worth a look over, and he would ask about that again once they where back on the bridge and he was at his station, John certainly was suspicious about why the Gorn would want to be there in the first place, they where exactly known to be a friendly species, but he figured that over time people changed, but a whole race to change in such a short mperiod of time?

Ainsleigh departed the bridge and headed directly to her office. Savot's suggestion of a mechanical scan was just what she planned to do. Her field tricorder would scan but if she was to accurately recreate the Gorn technology she'd need exacting detail.
"Ensign Amana," she called out to her assistant, "I need a molecular scanner and the HD recorder."
If he was puzzled he didn't let it show as he hurried to get her what she needed. While he was fulfilling her requests, McLeod checked on her teams and preliminary reports, reassigned a couple of her officers to the colony before preparing to return to the surface.
The equipment was ungainly so McLeod decided to use the transporter instead of a shuttle to get down. As she materialized at the Gorn camp she noted a little sadly that the Gorn were already gone. The cryptobiologist in her would have loved to have time studying them, but she settled with getting a good look at their equipment.
She met up with the XO and saw he had already had a look at the Gorn technology. "Anything interesting?" Ainsleigh asked as she set up. The thought crossed her mind that the information stored on their computers would be useful in the study of their technology and give a more complete picture of how their machines worked. It would also allow a look into the Gorn thought processes.
Ainsleigh smiled to herself watching Zimmerman checking out his most recent scan. ~Once a science officer, always a science officer.~ McLeod thought.

"Yes," replied Kevin, seeing the science officer for the first time. He held out his hand. "I'm Kevin Zimmerman, by the way. I don't think we've met."
(Ainsleigh)
"The Gorn had an several interesting modifications to this cloaking device of theirs. It appears to have doubled as a sort of computer mainframe and... well, it'll be easier to simply show you, since you've got as much training as I do." He indicated the device, which was partially reconstructed. "They had to take it apart to move it into the open, but all the pieces are here. I think that they had to work to keep up the cloak. Given the constant changes occurring on this planet, an ordinary cloak might not have fooled even the naked eye. So the Gorn converted this device into a sort of multi-purpose resource, and while I'm sure that it was primarily used for simply keeping the cloaking device operational, I'd like to know if there were any other functions it was used for."
(Ainsleigh)
"There's one other odd thing here," said Kevin, opening his hand and showing Ainsleigh what was easily recognizable to any Starfleet scientist or engineer. "There was part of a civilian replicator in that cloaking device. I found it on close inspection after Wolf mentioned something about how long the colony had gone without noticing the presence of the Gorn. None of the colonists said anything about any Gorn, but I don't know how else this thing could have ended up here. Any ideas on what it was used for? And - not to badger you with questions," Kevin added apologetically, " - did the Gorn you interacted with mention anything about the colony?"

Ainsleigh shook Kevin's proffered hand. "No we haven't met," she answered him Then McLeod followed the XO over to the disassembled cloaking devise.
"A multiphase fluctuating cloak, humm..," she said more to herself. Picking up a piece and giving it a closer look she took a screwdriver out of her field kit and started to work on it. To the first officer she verbilized her postulation, "The colony's choice of governor has seemed strange to me from the beginning. They are noted bankers and financiers not explorers or settlers. I believe that the Gorn may have paid or had permission to be here."
Opening up the piece she was fiddling with and taking a closer look, Ainsleigh continued her train of thought, "It was almost to easy when they were discovered to come to agreement and their departure. "
Stopping to show the XO what she saw, "Look familiar?," Ainsleigh queried. It was of Federation origin. "They've modified and used technology developed from several different peoples."
What they were looking at was the insides of the newest replicating technology and the implications were disturbing. Someone had to have given this to the Gorn. Wiping away a film of lubricant and exposing a serial number, "This should help in tracing this component."
"My original team didn't actually talk to the Gorn. Just reported their sighting," she answered Zimmerman. He took the part from her hand and silently Ainsleigh wondered if this was being handed over to the incoming ship with the rest of this equipment or going somewhere else entirely.

Kevin fiddled with the small object for a moment, pondering the situation. "We should investigate this at the colony. I have a suspicion that the governor and at least one other colonist were aware of the Gorn. You and I will return to the colony and find out where this particular item came from."
(McLeod)
Wolf," called Zimmerman. "After you've completely swept the surrounding area for anything the Gorn may have left behind, check in with the Captain and see how things are going topside. Also, inform me immediately if you discover anything new."
(Wolf)
"I think we'll stop by the governor first," said Kevin and he and the chief science officer entered the waiting shuttlecraft. "In case there are any legal issues after we file our report, the proper channels should be used. When - sorry, if the Governor fails to acknowledge that he was aware of the Gorn," said the young man, grinning at the thought of the shifty politician, "we'll consult a common colonist that I met earlier who may offer further insight into this investigation."

The pair entered the shuttlecraft for the ride to the other continent and the colony. The mental picture of the govenor flashed through her mind. He looked like an out of shape, middle aged man which was normal for his species. She thought of him sweating out the discovery but knew his kind. He was a shrewd wheeler and dealer and probably wouldn't fluster easily.
Ainsleigh smiled back at the XO's "if". "Surprise is usually the best offense," she responded in kind.
Quickly switching subjects, "Any reason Amana is still an Ensign?," she queried about the punctilious officer. The man had been useful. His attitude would most likely be annoying to most but she ignored most of his stiff-necked posturing.
(Zimmerman)
Continueing the conversation, "I believe I heard that Wolf had a short term reassignment and would be departing with the science ship."
As if on cue the transmission announcing the other ship's arrival in orbit came over the comm.
Musing more to herself, "Early," now looking at Zimmerman, "Must have pushed it hard to get here," she said cradling the scans of the equipment protectively on her lap.

"Well, there were others here before him that I worried about getting promoted, and quite frankly I was too busy with Lt. Spiller's promotion, filling Savot's shoes acting as the first officer, and still managing the science department until you came on board. If you'd like to promote him, there shouldn't be a problem. Just send the papers to me. I'll review them and get Savot to sign off on them as soon as this current assignment is completed." Kevin frowned. "Did you hear anything about Wolf getting transferred? He indicated he would be leaving again."
Ainsleigh replied, "I believe I heard that Wolf had a short term reassignment and would be departing with the science ship."
As if on cue the transmission announcing the other ship's arrival in orbit came over the comm.
"Early," Ainsleigh commented, looking at Zimmerman. "Must have pushed it hard to get here," she said cradling the scans of the equipment protectively on her lap.
"Yeah... I didn't think they'd be here for at least another day. We'd better finish this quickly." The shuttle settled down outside the temporary HQ Kevin and the others had set up. Zimmerman and McLeod exited and immediately headed to Governor Hwek's office. After a short wait the officers were admitted and the Bolian greeted them warmly.
"Have you completed your assessment of our colony?" he asked.
Kevin nodded. "We only have a few loose ends to tie up, Governor. I'd like to know how long the Gorn have been here, and how they managed to obtain a replicator from this colony."
Hwek's jaw moved soundlessly for a moment.. "Gorn? What Gorn? I'm sure I would have noticed a giant green lizard, Commander."
He must know, thought Kevin. But he's good... no anger at the indirect accusation. Aloud, he replied, "Governor Hwek, I do not believe you could possibly have broken any law by meeting with the Gorn. To my knowledge, there is no set interstellar law concerning such interaction as you seem to have instigated. However, your failure to acknowledge any and all relationships with other parties on this planet will not sit well with my report."

The Gorn ship having returned to its own territory and Mcleod having returned to the surface to examine the confiscated Gorn equipment, Savot took the relatively quiet moment to step into the Ready Room to review and file Colonel Wolf's temporary transfer orders. However, taking his seat at the desk his eyes were greeted with an incoming message of an entirely unexpected nature...
**********
*Sent through though the infinity of subspace comes the face and voice of one who is now very different from what she used to be. When the screen is activated it almost takes one a moment to realize who it is. Her hair is shorter, shes a bit thinner and her eyes are so very hard. But for all of that it is very much Commander Deis Irae. In the image she is dressed in a high neck black suit, chin lifted as though the high collar were holding her head rigid. Beside her face comes her statistics and her pending approval for the open Medical Officer spot on the El Salvador. Its several moments before she speaks, allowing the information to finish its scroll*
Capn Savot. Its come to me attention tha ye be missin a good doctor on yer ship. Tha much i am still capable o'. I ave put in me application t return t th El Salvador as CMO. Please respond wi yer either approval or disapproval.
*The hard eyes lift from the partial keyboard to the screen, looking through it as thoug staring straight at the reader of this message.*
Would be nice t be 'ome.
*That is all of the message. The harsh eyes drop from the screen and the message ends, leaving the darkened screen with the federation emblem hanging in space*
**********
The vulcan's face was stone as he sat unmoving before the now-empty computer screen. The face of Deis Irae was one a part of him believed he would never see again after her dramatic departure from the El Salvador. Savot had known as much as his emotionally-suppressed mind was capable how much the ship and its command meant to then-Captain Irae, and so he had known when she left that the cause was something so potent she was incapable of ignoring it. At best, Savot had believed that cause was of sufficient intensity to occupy a great deal of time in Irae's life, and at worst... claim that life.
He had taken no joy in receiving command of the El Salvador following his Captain, and friend's, rapid departure, and not simply because of his vulcan discipline. He had accepted it; however, as that was his duty as a Starfleet officer and second-in-command. While her return itself may have come as a surprise, her reinstatement at the lower rank of Commander 1st Class was not, as it was generally frowned upon for a Captain to go 'AWOL' to use an older Terran colloquialism. For Deis to voluntarily return to a vessel upon which her current position as Chief Medical Officer may very well feel awkward as compared to her former captaincy, spoke volumes about her genuine feeling for the vessel and the few remaining crewmembers from the time of her command.
Savot reviewed the supplementary information including Starfleet's approval for Deis' reinstatement as CMO of the El Salvador, and seeing that it was in order there was only his own approval to add to the mix. He prompted his console to begin recording a message, his face unusually impassive and his tone unerringly neutral...
"Commander Irae, having confirmed your transfer orders from Starfleet Command I see no need to contest the assignment and as such grant my approval for your appointment as Chief Medical Officer of the U.S.S. El Salvador. We will arrange to have you transported aboard upon arrival of the science vessel Archimedes at which time either myself or Commander Zimmerman will welcome you and accept your transfer orders."
Even he could tell it sounded too cold, but Savot was honestly unsure as to how much of himself he could risk leaving unguarded. Though even he was unsatisfied by his closing remarks, he felt obligated to make an attempt, "...Welcome back, Doctor."

McLeod stood at her XO's right hand and quietly studied the Bolian. His face showed no anger or guilt at getting caught, only the well-practiced righteous indignation of one wrongly accused. Ainsleigh didn't buy it.
"Governor Hwek, I do not believe you could possibly have broken any law by meeting with the Gorn. To my knowledge, there is no set interstellar law concerning such interaction as you seem to have instigated. However, your failure to acknowledge any and all relationships with other parties on this planet will not sit well with my report," continued Kevin.
So he wasn't buying it either Ainsleigh thought to herself.
The Bolian glibbly tried to add, "A scouting party lost some equipment months ago. There's a report in my files."
McLeod thought, "Sure, you'll write up a file as soon as you're alone.".
Zimmerman would have none of it and McLeod detected the first sign that the man was upset. His skin tone, almost imperceptively darkened. Ainsleigh wondered, not for the first time, how much latinum had changed hands. There was no doubt the Bolian was representing someone's interests and getting a substantial fee for the job. Musing to herself, "Peace seems to be coming with a price."
They left the Governor standing there still attempting to protest his innocence and Ainsleigh noted that Zimmerman had not allowed Hwek to get his hands on the recovered replicator.
The sun was bright as they exited the command center and Ainsleigh found that she was stalling returning to the sterile environment of the ship even though she was eager to get started on the Gorn equipment. Until this assignment she hadn't realized she had even missed the smell of growing things.
Taking a deep breath and savoring the odors for a moment, she just as quickly set nostalgia and concentrated on matters at hand. "Well, I best get this back to the ship," she didn't add the unneccessary, in case the science vessel had problems with who had access to this now classified information.
She asked Kevin, "You heading back to the ship?"
(Zimmerman)
As he answered, one of her team walked up and handed her a tricorder with updated information. She nodded her acknowledgement and thanks to the officer and he left as quickly as he'd come.
As an aside to Zimmerman, "At least Hwek knows his job. The terraforming is coming along better then expected."

*Deis sits in before the desk in her temporary quarters, looking at the face of her old friend and new Captain. Its good, regardless of the chill, to hear his familiar voice. Even the lack of emotional inflection is oddly comforting to the odd chaos of her mind of late. She even gives the small crack of a smile at the staid welcome. It feels good to have a natural and unforced facial expression, shes become all too adept at masking her face and intentions. Partly thanks to the Vulcan...and her first and only trip to his planet.*
*Her eyes dip down to peer at her wrist chronomiter and she nods to herself. She stands up and deletes the messages from this desk station. She will not need them as she dosent expect to see these quarters again. She takes a breath and then zips the severely high throat of her uniform, reaching down to the little tableside and picking up her pips. She places them at her throat, making certain that one of them is dark. Then she turns and looks out of the window of the quarters...there she is. In all her spadelike beauty...the El Salvador. Her eyes refocus from the shining ship to her own glassy reflection. She is muchly different from the way she was when she first stepped onto that ship. Rather than softly curling and tucked away, her hair is cropped short in the back, the front hanging just over her eyes. She tosses this out of the way and pivots, turning from the window, grabbing her duffel and leaving the room*
*Shes already expected to have gone so she wastes no time getting to the shuttle bay...she wont transport over..she has a shuttle to return. Though the Mini Sal has definatly seen better days. She steps in from the back, noticing a few phaser scars that she couldnt completly cover up. Sitting down in the pilots seat she informs the Archimedes of her disembarkation. Before 5 more minutes pass shes out of the shuttle bay and in open space. Its amazing how the presence of utter vacuume makes one feel...hard to explain. In the days before she would have made a specticle of herself approaching the ship in "her baby" but now she simply follows protocol and then transmits her approach to the El Salvador. She hangs paused in space before the forceshielded doors and prepairs to enter*

The young officer sitting at communications receives the incoming transmission from the approaching shuttle. After identifying it as correct authorizes landing. He had to double check the registry and noted with surprise the shuttle's call sign.
"Sir, Commander Irae has boarded." The man was one of the few remaining crew that had served under Irae when she was Captain. A surruptious glance towards Captain Savot didn't bring any response, not that he expected any. Looking quickly around the bridge to see if any other crew member from Irae's time was there, he was slightly disappointed to see none.
He wanted to open shipwide communications and announce the new CMO's arrival with all the subsequent ramifications, but professionalism and the sure knowledge that such behavior would not go unpunished kept the news to himself.
He had four more hours until his relief came and by then this would be old news.
He was snapped out of his daydreaming by another shuttle requesting landing authorization. It was the shuttle returning from the planet and with practiced ease he acknowledged its arrival.

"You heading back to the ship?" asked Ainsleigh.
"No," replied Kevin, shaking his head. "I'm going to get at least one colonist to confess that he has some idea of what is going on. That way whoever takes our place will have proof of the interaction of the Gorn with this colony."
As an aside to Zimmerman, Ainsleigh offered, "At least Hwek knows his job. The terraforming is coming along better then expected."
"Yeah," agreed Kevin. "Sometimes I doubt my suspicions, but we have physical evidence that the Governor is lying... Anyway, I'll finish up here as soon as I can."
The two officers parted ways, and Kevin soon found himself outside the same home he had visited so recently. He knocked on the front door and was greeted by David Jenkins. The man appeared to already understand the situation and ushered in Kevin without a word.
"You know why I'm here?" asked Kevin.
Jenkins nodded. "I'm surprised you're still conducting your investigation, though. Hasn't the science ship arrived?"
Wondering how Jenkins could possibly know about that, Kevin shrugged. "I figured it would be best to be sure that whoever replaces me exposes the relationship between the Governor and the Gorn... and you, if that is the case. Can I get a confession?"
"I haven't done anything illegal," said Jenkins. "Trust me, I checked, and the Governor is the one who will take the fall for this."
Kevin's eyebrows shot up as Jenkins continued.
****************************************************
Because everything else had already been handed over to the science vessel by the time Kevin had finished interviewing Jenkins, all he handed to the new team was the replicator fragment and the recorded interview with Jenkins. Kevin flew back to the El Salvador and reclined in the co-pilot's seat. It had been a relaxing assignment, despite the unexpected presence of the Gorn, and the young man expected no new orders would have reached the El Salvador so soon after their mission had been abruptly concluded.
As the shuttle docked, Kevin felt as if something was amiss. He couldn't pin down exactly what it was that did not feel right, but something seemed out of place. Ignoring the feeling, he made his way to the Bridge to make his report to Savot.

Commanders Rylka and Hope were transferring to the Archimedes even now on assignments that would take them elsewhere in the vastness of space, and Colonel Wolf would be transferring aboard as well with the last of the confiscated Gorn equipment. With Kevin and Mcleod still off the ship for the moment that left the El Salvador woefully lacking in senior staff appropriate for welcoming their Chief Medical Officer aboard.
Though he could not justify leaving the bridge himself to meet the Doctor, the vulcan ran a routine scan on the Mini-Sal shuttlecraft from his center seat arm console. Outwardly justifiable as following proper protocol, Savot was more interested in getting even the slightest of notions as to what the shuttlecraft had been put through recently.
The shuttle reading green on sensors, Irae was given clearance to land by the Ensign at Ops and the bay doors were opened to accomodate her. Upon her landing and leaving the craft Commander Irae would be greeted by an unfamiliar shuttle-technician who conveyed the 'Permission granted', to come aboard.
As the Ops officer noted the approach of another shuttle soon to arrive, conveying Commander Zimmerman back to the ship, Savot ordered the bay doors remain open to expedite his second-in-command's return to the ship. When he felt the Doctor had had sufficient time to disembark from the shuttle itself he activated the intra-ship comm on his other chair arm and spoke, =^=Bridge to Doctor Irae, please report to the conference room to present your transfer orders. Bridge out.=^=
Savot still hadn't quite figured out how he felt about the current situation, and as such was sure Kevin would certainly feel something about the events. So the vulcan chose an isolated location for Kevin's discovery of Irae's return, and opted against the Ready Room as that particular location might hold a sense of awkwardness given the crew's history.
Receiving word that Zimmerman's shuttle had arrived Savot once again activated the communication controls, =^=Savot to Zimmerman, please report immediately to the conference room to deliver your report. Bridge out.=^=
For his part, Savot himself stood from his chair and made his way through the whooshing doors into the adjacent conference room to await the arrival of the other 2 officers.

Savot/Deis Jointpost
*Having left the shuttle bay after recieving her permissions, Deis slings her duffel over her shoulder, digging out her transferral padd as she walks down the corridors. It feels good to be here, yet at the same time decidedly odd. She does not have to remind herself that she is simply the ships Doctor...its almost natural for her to fall into this position with out the smallest bit of fuss. Shes learned to be grateful for what she has...theres no time or room in her heart for what could have been. To dwell on such broodments would hamstring her from living what has now become her life. Its a hardgained inner balance that shes garnered from the experiences of the last year. And its oddly thanks to the man whose voice she hears over the comms at this moment. Without exposure to his mind, his families and the strange serenity that the Vulcan planet had on her she never would have been able to do any of this at all...least of all return here this day*
=^=Bridge to Doctor Irae, please report to the conference room to present your transfer orders. Bridge out.=^=
*Deis lifts a finger up to her new commbadge, her voice speaking out lowly with the hint of a taken breath* =/\=Acknowledged, Captain=/\= *She then keys the turbolift to leave her off at the bridge. This is the moment shes looked most and least foreward to. Stepping out into the bridge she casts her eyes around those at post presently and gives a silent nod of her head of greeting. She does not stop to speak though, she walks around its permeter and steps through the woosh of the Observation doors*
Contrary to the scene one typically sees when entering a windowed room on a starship, that of a person staring out at the star filled cosmos, Savot stands behind the head chair of the conference table looking down the length of it. The coming moment was one he truly believed he'd never experience, but disciplined developed over decades of training allowed him to compartmentalize, though doing so colored his bearing and tone in a colder shade than even his usual down-to-business stoicism. His hands clasped behind him at the small of his back, he stood in silent contemplation until the inevitable whoosh of opening doors signalled an arrival. Savot angled his body to face the woman entering the room, his forced dispassionatism noting without comment her altered appearance, and he would later, when he allowed himself the mental luxury, ponder what events and experiences had caused the changes. Savot gave a tilted nod to the approaching woman and extended his right hand to receive the transfer orders she carried with her, "Welcome back Doctor. You appear well."
*Deis approaches the table, her gaze immediatly finding and locking onto her Captains. There is no challenge there...there is little there at all...even to eyes such as his. She has indeed changed...there was a softness to her face before. The cropped hair, lack of expression and very militant bearing speaks that such softness has turned towards steel. But even her face cannot hide a slight rising of color and the faintest hint of a smile on her face. Her voice cant possibly be as slipped and emotionless as yours...shes irish.
She slides the duffel from her shoulder and hands Savot the padd, assuming attention stance, hands behind her back, answering* Im to th task Sir. Ready an able t assume my station. *She looks up at him with a sudden need for communication...but she presses it down. There shall be time...shes home now. Instead she speaks* As do ye Capn. Orders?
Savot accepts the padd from former Captain and friend, confirming the orders as per protocol though the subspace copy too had carried an official seal. He nodded slightly and returned the padd, "Sickbay is prepared for your arrival Doctor. The Medical Hologram is currently reviewing medical scans taken of the 75 colonists on the surface and to date has discovered nothing anamolous. You may choose to continue from his last completed file or re-examine the entirety yourself should you prefer. If any medical treatment is needed please inform the bridge and an away team will accompany you to the surface." He leaned slightly to the side to press a series of controls on the table surface, uploading a data packet to the padd once again in the doctor's hand, "Your former quarters remain vacant; however, your remaining personal effects were stored, their location and access code have been transmitted to your datapadd. If you wish I can dispatch crewman to move them to your quarters.
*She retakes the padd and nods to the information and permissions.* Thank you Capn. *She goes to step back and then tilts her head, an eye hidden behind her hair. she speaks again but this time its softly spoken, with respect to the suddenly opening doors* I dinnae what t say...but its good t see ye, Savot. *Then she silences again as Zimmerman walks into the room*

Kevin stepped into the room and yawned, taking note of Savot and another officer before glancing at the PADD containing his notes. "I'll warn you before I start, Captain, that my report is not backed with what would normally be considered sufficient support. That is because, due to requirements by the classification of the Gorn and... associated..." The young man trailed off as his eyes widened. He looked at Irae with an uncharacteristically cautious expression, not entirely sure he could believe what he saw. The doors slid closed as Kevin put a hand on the conference table. He held his PADD loosely at his side. After a moment he regained his voice. "Captain..."
(Irae)
Kevin nodded. "Right, right... sorry, I'm a little surprised to see you. I-I mean..." He turned to Savot. "Do we need to keep up formality?" Kevin was overwhelmed with an odd feeling that seemed related to elation, yet mixed with a dash of betrayal. Irae had disappeared so suddenly, and while Kevin knew that she had her own life to worry about, that had left Kevin with no one to look up to or affiliate with apart from Savot. He had been kept busy with running the science department, of course, but Kevin always looked for someone to lead, and Irae had been that person for a long time. Kevin thought he had put such insecurity behind him soon after she had disappeared, but now it seemed he was not as confident as he had assumed.

McLeod returned to the ship and immediately went to her office holding tightly to the scans she had of the Gorn equipment. She would make a report of what had been found but with the XO taking on the investigation of the Gorn and colony, it would wait until later.
Ensign Amana was at the door almost as soon as she had a chance to sit. Seeing his stance, Yes, what is it?" Ainsleigh inquired having already gotten used to the officer's aflectations.
In a totally unnormal hesitiation, Amana started, "Sir, I think....", then stopped and restarted, "Somethings happened." Pausing, searching for the right words, "The Captain's returned." Quickly realizing how that sounded "I mean the previous Captain."
"Come in and close the door," McLeod ordered. "Sit." she indicated a chair across from her desk. "Now what are you trying to tell me?".
The Ensign told her the story of their new medical officer peppered with a great deal of speculation. Ainsleigh listened and when he had finished. "I thank you for keeping me informed, but next time just the facts, not the gossip of those not there."
Changing subjects, "Here are the scans of the Gorn equipment. Set up a holographic emitter and download them in lab 3. I want to start studying it as soon as possible." She looked at the now uncomfortable ensign. Returning to the subject of Irae, "It is just that it will be difficult enough on the CMO and those who had served under her. Gossip will just make it that much harder. Though I'm glad you told me about the situation so I didn't walk into it cold," Her voice had softened to let him know she was not upset with him. "Dismissed.".
After Ensign Amana left, Ainsleigh pondered the situation and knew it would be awkward at first, she just hoped that it would pass and pass quickly. Her opinion of the CMO had now been colored by this act of courage to return to this ship. McLeod was sure that she must have requested this, because Ainsleigh just couldn't see Starfleet arranging this.
Her stomach let out a growl of protest at her neglect. Thinking to herself that it would take Amana a bit of time to set up her lab, McLeod rose and decided to head to the lounge for something to eat.
The doors swished open to reveal an almost empty lounge. The type between the lunch and dinner crowds. Not wanting the bartender to have to wait on her, Ainsleigh stepped up to the bar and ordered.
"How about a pastrami sandwich with the works and a side salad," she ordered.
"What type of dressing?" quieried the bartender.
"Blue cheese and give me a pint," she added.
The bartender drew the beer and handed it to her and Ainsleigh took it over to a seat by the window.
The doors to the lounge swished open causing her to pull her eyes from the window to see a couple of guys from engineering come in. Other then that, she ate in silence.

Savot inwardly sympathized with Kevin as he saw the FO enter the briefing room. Irae's departure had had emotional resonance for the young human officer as well, and was also directly responsible for Zimmerman's elevated duties. The vulcan had come to rely heavily upon the former science chief, perhaps unfairly so, and resolved to try and more equally balance the burden they both shared as the El Salvador's command team.
Zimmerman tried to address Deis a number of ways before facing Savot and speaking, "Do we need to keep up formality?"
The vulcan shook his head slightly as he spoke, "No, Commander, you may both speak freely." Savot turned slightly towards Irae, "Mr. Zimmerman now serves as the El Salvador's First Officer Doctor. He has progressed quite well." He then stood stoically still during the exchange, hands in their usual place at his back.
(Any exchange b/w Kevin, Deis, and/or Savot)
When the discussion appeared to lull into completion Savot addressed both of the other officers in the room, "I had debated whether to vocally address the issue on the possibility it might do more harm than good. However, I've decided it's in the best interests of both ship and crew to face openly our current situation. Obviously the events of the past year have placed officers who formerly followed Doctor Irae's orders in the position of now giving orders to her, and vice versa. I am confident in our collective professionalism; however, and do not anticipate difficulties with this scenario."
"However, should any awkwardness hinder anyone's performance of their duties they may feel entirely justified in bringing those feelings to my attention at which point I will do all I can to assuage them. Do either of you have anything you wish to state for the record before we proceed?"

The Chief Science Officer's commbadge beeped none to softly in the empty lounge startling her out of her own thoughts.
"Yes," she tapped her own badge.
"The away teams have completed their assessments and are prepared to return," came Ensign Amana's businesslike voice.
"Have them report to my office as soon as they arrive," answered the CSO. Lunch was over and the few moments of quiet were over. Getting up, she busted her own table before leaving. Grabbing a breath mint she sucked on it as she left the lounge. It wouldn't do to have her junior officers smell beer on her breath even though she only had a pint.
Returning to her office to find Amana already there with the preliminary correlations of data for her to peruse, Ainsleigh sat and thanked him before dismissing Amana. A fast reader, she scrolled down to see that it jelled with what she had already seen.
A knock at the door and two of her returning officers were at the door.
"Come in and have a seat," McLeod ordered Lts Belsin and Gowalski, inwardly smiling that the two were still trying to keep their relationship secret. Thinking to herself that there were very few secrets aboard a starship when it came to trysts, but they were young. That thought reminded her that they were actually older then her, but command had aged her.
"Report."
She listened in silence unless a point needed clarification. One by one, her teams reported and before she knew it the afternoon was gone. As the last team rose to leave she ordered them, "Be sure to give Ensign," and she hesitated a split second bringing to mind the botonist's name, "Osan gets all the flora specimens and that the insects get to Ensign T'Kar. I need your final reports on my desk by this time tomorrow."
She was tired and decided that she would start her official report fresh in the morning, besides the Gorn equipment waited for her. Before calling it a day, McLeod headed for the bridge to check on the science station and Ensign Milak. It was his first time on bridge duty it wasn't that long ago that she herself had felt the excitement to be there.
The doors swished open and McLeod stepped out. There seemed to be a dearth of senior staff. That quick mental checklist to make sure that she hadn't forgotten a briefing satisfied Ainsleigh that things were in order.
"How's it going?," McLeod asked the junior science officer. He launched into an overly detailed report and Ainsleigh managed not to smile at his obvious excitement.
"Call me if you need me," the Lt Commander offered the young man as she noted the empty tactical station and wondered where Roberts was.
Ainsleigh figured she'd spend the evening working on the Gorn cloaking devise. McLeod wondered how they'd missed the Gorn encampment with their initial scans. Of course they hadn't been looking for anyone but the colonist, still it bothered her.
She was still on the bridge when the doors to the conference room opened....

Doctor actually Kevin. *she gives the ghost of a smile to being called Captain. He reverses himself immediatly. "Right, right... sorry, I'm a little surprised to see you. I-I mean..."
*She remains silent as Zimmerman asks for the lack of formality to ensue. Its good...she can at least give them what information she can for now. When Captain Savot gives said permission Deis takes a deep breath and sits down atop the table and scowls darkly for a long moment* I am verra pleased wi how well yeve done Kevin. I knew ye would do well in a command position. Of tha, i never 'ad a doubt.
Savot...yeve done wonderfully. I hope tha a day will come when i can be forgiven for forcin th job upon ye. But i knew ye would take care of 'er. Th El Sal an her crew.
I owe th both of ye an apology so deep that i cannae imagine 'ow t alleviate it. I also owe th both of ye an explanation as t why i had t do....wha i had t do. *she holds up a hand to forestall any questions and sighs heavily* I ask fer yer indulgence in this matter. Ye 'ave every right t know...i just dinnae know how to begin. *she lifts a hand up and runs it up and back through her hair leaving it a bit touseled and exposing the harsh plains of her face* Durin our last mission i recieved information that i couldnae ignore. I had always thought tha me parents were in an accident. Bad warp coil on th shuttle or sommat. But i was wrong. *she raises her chin, scowling in a manner that would not have been possible before all of this happened* Me family was assassinated. Murdered. Me Da...was a doctor...least thas wha we all thought. 'E worked fer Starfleet Intelligence. I nae e'er found out wha it was tha he was sposed t have known. But wha e'er twas...was enough t sign our three death warrants. I joost happened t 'ave a dance recital tha weekend. So i stayed at school.
*She pushes herself up from the table and begins pacing, hands clamped down on her hips. She casts a glance looking at both Savot and Kevin back and forth* Suffice t say...once i found out th truth...i had nae choice but t deal wi it. T make a verra long and conviluted story short though...i managed t see justice done.
But i would appreciate bein able t come to th details in me own time. Please.
*She silences then and lets the Captain speak* Dinnae worry Capn. I dinnae 'ave a problem followin orders from someone tha used t follow mine. I dinnae 'ave anythin t add t th official report. If i 'ave th permission o ye both, i would loike t assume me post now an order th Sickbay.

Deis' story more or less completed, she paused.

Kevin nodded soundlessly, looking at Savot. The younger officer was too unsure of his position at the moment to speak. Irae's reasons for leaving sounded more than adequate to justify her disappearance. Kevin was glad to simply see her alive and well again.
Savot spoke up. "I had debated whether to vocally address the issue on the possibility it might do more harm than good. However, I've decided it's in the best interests of both ship and crew to face openly our current situation. Obviously the events of the past year have placed officers who formerly followed Doctor Irae's orders in the position of now giving orders to her, and vice versa. Kevin had been ready to step down. It would feel... wierd, ordering Deis to do anything. Kevin did not know where he would end up, with Ainsleigh running the science department. But if Deis would have requested it, Kevin would have gladly given up his position. "If Cap- if Doctor Irae is okay with it, I'm fine, too," he said, looking at his former CO.
(After Irae has left for Sickbay)
Placing the PADD he had carried in on the table, Kevin glanced at the closed door. "I... think I should give my official report later," he said to Savot. "If that's okay, of course. I think I'm a little disoriented at the moment."
