The Raven moved through space ... Carl knew that it was going to be minutes, maybe seconds, before the Mysar ships came in pursuit. The St James was another matter. He had changed the Command override codes in his ready room, that way Usana couldn't pull the same stunt a second time. It also gave Torek an edge, of sorts. He hoped the St James had been damaged enough to at least delay her coming after them until Scott and his Engineers could give them better than a 'Hare and Tortoise' change in this race.
The McCauley was now coming after them too. Torek knew it was no longer a Federation ship, or it would have been heading for the Mysar and not his ship. But that was another thing he would have to contend with when the time came.
"Sir .." Jamison said suddenly, "We are being hailed by the McCauliffe .. They are requesting video ....."
Torek looked at his Exec' for a second before returning his gaze to the view-screen.
"What do you think ?" Andae asked, receiving a shrug from his Commanding Officer.
"What have we to loose." Carl said, "Open the channel."
He was a little surprised at what he saw. Gemma Barnes was in the Command seat. But the smile on her face told Carl all was not right in the world ..
=^= Gemma ? =^=
=^= Carl .. Good to see you =^=
The blow that knocked the woman out of the seat and to the deck was so unexpected, it made the Raven's Bridge crew jump. Before Torek could reply a man casually seated himself, kicking the unconscious Barnes out of his way as he did so.
=^= Raven .... I am Kol Demar .. My 'associate' has informed me you intend running back to the Sol System for help .. I'm afraid I cannot allow that .. Drop from warp and I assure you that no-one will be harmed .. We want the ship not the crew =^=
=^= I assume Usana used his 'parlor trick' to disable the McCauliffe as he did with us .. Let me tell you it won't work a second time .. I have NO intention of letting you get hold of the Raven and further more I intend to do everything in my power to relieve you of both the McCauliffe AND the St James ! =^=
=^= Brave words Captain .. But just how far would you go to achieve that goal ? =^=
Demar reached down, grabbing Gemma by the neck and lifted her into view. He looked at the woman for a long moment, then drew a phaser from his belt. Without hesitation he placed it against her head and fired ... He cast the lifeless body aside without remorse.
=^= Captain .. It is in your crew's interest for you to surrender .. Believe me =^= Demar said before closing the Comm. The screen went blank then restored the view of space. The bridge was in total shock at what they had just witnessed. Carl thought quickly, but he was almost numb at what he had seen ...
"How long before the Mysar ships are in range ?" he said quietly.
"Four minutes." Jamison replied.
"And the McCauliffe ?"
"Two minutes twenty seconds Captain."
'One hundred seconds ... One hundred seconds to decide their fate' Carl thought.
"Bring us about one eighty degrees .. Head directly for the McCauliffe .. Arm EVERYTHING we have and Helm, be prepared to get us the HELL out of here win or loose !"
The Galaxy Class ship made the turn in less than three seconds, a record for such a massive vessel. Then they were heading right into the proverbial 'lions mouth' as they closed on the McCauliffe ..........

As Usana spoke the Raven fired phaser that tore straight through the St. James’s shields. Usana grabbed the tactical station for support as the St. James rocked under the fire.
Warning alarms began to sound as the force fields automaticly sprang to life where the phasers had ripped a hole in the side of the ship. Usana looked down at the reports from those decks as they came in.
Seventeen confirmed dead or MIA, Uasna slammed his fist into the console, the torpeodoes he had fired into the Raven were aimed to not cuase any deaths, but Torek had taken it to the next level. Usnana moved quickly back to the command chair and turned to Theo.
“Seventeen.. Seventeen Theo.”
Theo bowed his head the loss of life on the ship was something he knew Usana would not forgive or forget.
Usana turned to Theo. As Theo asked.
“What’s the plan sir?”
Usana looked to the view screen as the Raven warped away.
“We..We need to end this.”
Theo nodded as he turned to look at the view screen.
The officer at Conn was the next to speak as he said.
“Captain the McCauliffe is entering the system… reports indicate the Mysar are already aboard.”
Usana nodded when suddenly the view screen changed to show the bridge of the McCauliffe, but the comm. Wasn’t open for them specifically more for the Raven.
Usana watched as the Captain a woman he knew well speak to Torek before being knocked out by the Mysar Commander.
Before long the Mysar commander Kol Dremar killed Gemma before their eyes.
Usana was enraged… After Kol Dremar closed the comm. To the Raven and the St. James Usana screamed. “Hail him.”
Kol Dremar appeared on the screen but before he spoke Usana bellowed.
“You promised there would be no deaths Dremar!”
Kol’s face screwed up in anger as he pulled out a small tricorder sized object and pressed a button.
Usana and his whole crew grabbed their heads as the pain shot through their bodies the pain was unbearable.
Kol smiled as he realesed the button and Usana picked himself up of the floor.
“You take orders from me Usana.. not the other way around.. unless you want to watch your crew die before your eyes… Now attack the Raven.”
The comm. Channel closed and Usana was left with no choice. He turned to the helm and said. “best speed to the Raven.”
*** On the Brigde of the McCualiffe***
Kol Dremar turned to a Mysar that now stood beside him and asked.
“Usana is starting to think for himself… I thought you said the implants would control them and their thoughts!”
the second Mysar looked to his feet as he nervously relied.
“Sorry sir but I said.. it May control them for a short time.”
Kol growled loudly as he pulled his phaser and shot the second Mysar and screamed. “I do not tolerate failure… Fire all weapons at the Raven NOW.”
The weapons streamed across the vast open space as the St. James came into view and did the same.

Carl was counting on one thing as the two Star ships headed directly for each other .. As the computers realized a collision was imminent, it would change the ships heading. In the Raven's case, she would rise above the plane and pass directly over the McCauliffe.
"St James is firing Captain. But she's still at maximum range." Jamison said.
"Fire all phasers. Target propulsion and weapons." Blakus ordered.
"As we pass overhead I want a full spread of phonon torpedo's .. Target the McCauliffe's warp core !" the Captain added.
Carl was counting on the Mysar not knowing how the ships would react to a possible collision, otherwise he might just find himself, as well as the Raven, on the wrong end of a volley.
The St James was getting ever closer, and would begin to make a differance to the battle soon.
Torek watched as the Raven adjusted her attitude, pitching upward to pass well clear of the on-coming McCauliffe. Torek imagined Dremar's eyes bulging as he realized they weren't going to actually hit ..
The Raven began to head back down and Carl shouted.
"FIRE !" ...
A volley of six photon torpedo's left their launch tubes. Arrowing toward the McCauliffe. The first four impacted the shields, collapsing them easily. The remainder slammed into the Engineering section of the Excelsior Class Star ship .. The resulting matteranti-matter explosion was beyond words ... The Raven was rocked by the shock wave, two of the five Mysar vessels were destroyed instantly, the remainder, along with the St James suddenly began to flee !
"Get after the St James." Carl said, puzzled as he regained his seat.
"Captain ..." the Science Officer said, "Sensors are detecting seventeen bodies at our previous location."
"Leave them." Torek said, glaring at the St James as she moved away.
"Sir ... They are registering as Star fleet personnel."
Carl hesitated for a second, thinking ..
"OK ... Take us over there. Beam the bodies to one of the Cargo Bays. Have Doctor Traks do a full autopsy. I want to know if there is anything unusual about them. Then get us after the 'James .. I want that ship and I want Usana for what he's done." ..........

The Raven turned to the McCauliffe, bearing down on her at full impulse speed. Blakus sat in his chair, hands together under his chin, he sat forward in the seat, thinking hard. The Captain had ordered the ship to come around and make a charge straight for the Excelsior class. The XO could not work out how he felt about such a maneuver, especially since the Mysar commander's senseless murder of the former Captain Barnes. Sure.. why not? The Raven can handle such a move, and of course there is revenge to be had, he eventually thought.
Blakus watched as the Raven's photon torpedoes tore towards the McCauliffe's engineering section. He watched the torpedoes go; they passed under the viewscreen and out of sight. The XO imagined the torpedoes passage through space; he put himself one of the tubes, watched it hit the McCauliffe's engineering section in a blinding flash of light and felt a hot flush wash through him.
Someone on the bridge reported the destabilisation of the McCauliffe's warp core, Blakus nodded, taking it in in his new, normal manner, but his focus was on his torpedo; he felt a part of it, despite its disintegration within the bowels of the McCauliffe and the following dispersal of its matter. It was revenge on Blakus's level although, when he thought about, avenging Barnes's death would probably not have worried him in the long term. It was a tactical move. Torek understood that, everybody understood that. Blakus thought again of Barnes's death. It had shocked him to the core, yes; but what did that even mean in this place.. everything was far away, he was living in a space where his new 'pretend-reality' was intermingled with the real sense of perception he'd already lost.
"Get after the St James." Torek said, sitting down next to his XO, a puzzled frown clearly on his face.
Blakus looked at him, and then tilted his head and watched the viewscreen; it now displayed an image of the St. James's rear, fleeing the volume with a trio of misshapen Mysar craft in attendance. It was odd, he would accept. But maybe the show of strength from the Galaxy class ship, had convinced Usana that his attempt to force the Raven's surrender was ultimately doomed to fail.
It was surely clear to the St. James's commander that he couldn't win in a straight fight with the Raven. His allied ships were nothing, his own ship was inferior in terms of resilience and firepower - although the Intrepid class did have the upper hand in agility and speed. When thought about, Usana's retreat made sense, he could outrun the Raven and head deeper into the Balsara system or wherever it was that his collaborators milled to and fro in their vessels, passing between star systems, colonies, worlds, living their lives...
Blakus shook himself out of his stream of thoughts and acted on Torek's indirect orders. He tapped his commbadge, =/\=Doctor Traks, this is the bridge, you will momentarily be receiving seventeen deceased members of the St. James's crew. The Captain requests you perform an autopsy on them, search for anything foreign that might give us a clue as to their odd behaviour. Bridge out.=/\=
<Tag Traks>
Blakus returned to his brooding posture, hands together, dark eyes searching the viewscreen for answers, and pondering on what Usana's next nefarious move may be....

As the St. James limped into battle with the Raven Usana felt his own thoughts beginning to push through, he watched as the Raven got bigger on his view screen.
He was taken by surprise when he saw the Raven head straight for the McCualiffe, the part of him uncontrolled by the Mysar screamed inside his mind to do something, but his body was stuck in place. The Raven fired it’s torpedoes and within seconds fire erupted from the engineering section of the large excelsior class ship.
For a split second and for a split second only the real Usana pushed through and gained control enough to ask. “How many Federation personnel on that ship?”
The conn officer looked down before replying with no emotion whatsoever, “Three hundred Seventy Four sir.”
Usana’s head hung low, he whispered to himself. “Most of them were probably still alive when the ship exploded… what have I allowed to happen.”
From Usana’s eye a tear fell slowly it rolled down his cheek before falling onto his tunic and being soaked up by the fabric. This was all the freedom Usana got within seconds, his mind went blank in a white hot flash of pain.
Before looking up with the fire in his eyes he had hours earlier and yelling out.
“Get us out of here helm best speed.. engage.”
The St. James limped away at their best speed warp three point five, only marginally better than the Ravens warp three.
Usana went to sit back in his command chair when a familiar voice said coldly.
“That’s not your chair anymore.”
Usana turned and caught a glimpse of Kol Dremar holding the same pain device he used minutes ago, Usana doubled over in pain he fought the urge to scream as hard as he could but it wasn’t enough the pain got the better of him and a whimper first escaped his lips followed by a loud cry of anguish. Usana didn't need to be a genius to work out Kol had transported aboard the St. James when he knew the McCualiffe was doomed... but deep deep inside where the Mysar implant that had been implanted in his brain couldn't reach he was wishing Kol had died. He knew the rest of the crew felt the same as he did, he could not remember how Kol managed to enslave the entire crew but a part of Usana could feel the memory fighting to be unblocked.
Kol Dremar sneered at Usana as he said in disgust. “Pitiful.”
Kol sat in the command chair and said to the helm who like the rest of the crew acted as if nothing out of the ordinary had just happened and said. “Helm boy Take us to co-ordinates 459 mark 08. Then land this ship on the third planet, it’s thermal radiation should keep us hidden long enough to make repairs.”
Usana finnaly managed to pick himself off of the floor, his thoughts again no longer his own, he took the seat of the XO and looked to Kol and said. “the radiation will only keep us hidden for bout four hours at best sir.”
Kol sneered before he said. “Four hours is all I need to deal with your pathetic friends.”
He pressed the console next to the captains chair opening a comm. Channel to the Mysar ships. “Squadron 17 go back and finish off the Federation Starship.”
Kol knew as well as anyone that they didn’t stand a chance.. but he did know it would keep the Raven occupied for a while.. just long enough to get out of sensor range and disappear.

Sharp is at his station when he hears the captain give the orders to find the ST. James. Sharp starts to scan the area to see where the ST. James disappeared to and started to look at star charts for this sector which are limited due to this sector being unexplored by star fleet.
After a few minutes of scanning Sharp finds something. Sharp turns around. "Sir i believe i may know where they have gone theres a nebula in the heading they took off at and sir i recommend we find away to board The St. James to find out why the Captain decided to turn on us>"

The bridge was silent as the St. James made their escape, only the hum of the engines and the occasional beeping from the control stations broke the eerie silence, Usana had not moved since he had taken his spot standing near his own command chair, which was currently occupied by Kol Dremar.
About an hour later the St. James dropped out of warp, it entered a solar system at full impulse and made its way straight for the third planet as Kol had demanded.
He stood and looked to Usana the same look of disgust still plastered on his face, “Usana once we have landed join me in your ready room.”
With that Kol marched off the bridge and into the captains ready room.
Usana turned and looked to the hel and said.
“All hands blue alert… Helm bring us in for landing.”
He re-took his command seat and gripped the arms of the chair as the blue alert lights blinked over the entire ship,
The St. James moved slowly into the atmosphere of the planet, but due to the heavy damage to the engineering section the ship shook violently, as small pieces of hull came ripping off where the Raven had tore the chunk out of their side.
Eventually the shaking stopped and the St. James was flying inside the atmosphere of the inhospitable planet, the air was barley breathable for humanoid life but it was the best place for the St. James to hide, the planets radiation would hide them from the Ravens sensors, they would be safe as long as the Raven didn’t take orbit, in which case their sensors would be able to pick up the St. James.
Usana wasn’t worried about that though, there was plenty of places the James could have hidden which Torek would no doubt look first, and while he was busy hunting nebulas and gas giants the St. James would have it’s full attention on repairing itself.
The St. James came to a landing with a dull thud at which time Usana stood and said. “Stand down Blue alert.. all ship personnel are to begin repair procedures.”
Usana then left bridge to meet Kol in his ready room…

The seven minutes that it took the Raven to disable the Mysar vessel's wasn't the actual gap between the two ships .. The St James was last known to be making warp three point five. Raven could only manage warp three ..
"Entering the Balsara System Captain." the duty Navigation Officer said.
"Anything ?" Torek asked, already knowing the answer.
"No sign of the St James Sir." she said.
"There is a large defuse nebula on the outer edge of the system. point two light years out. Unusual position, but it could hide the St James." the Science Officer said.
Carl shrugged ... It was as good a place as any to begin their search. The only problem was time, and he had little to spare. Searching the nebula could take days. But he knew he had no choice because Usana could sit in there making running repairs to his ship and jump out on them firing. He couldn't destroy the Galaxy Class ship, but he could certainly cause more damage.
"Keep scanning the system. If there's anywhere the St James could hide, I want it on our list of places to look." Carl said, a small sigh escaping.
"We'll find him." Andae said quietly. Torek gave a small laugh, almost inaudible.
"If he's had the sense to move far inside that ...." Carl said, nodding toward the image on-screen, ".... There's no way our sensors can reach him .. Let's hope we can pick up an Ion trail. At least we'll know he's in there." Torek said, lips squeezed together.
The Raven came to a halt, seemingly hovering two hundred thousand kilometers from the nebula.
"Beginning scans." the Science Officer said ..........

"Sir i believe i may know where they have gone theres a nebula in the heading they took off at and sir i recommend we find away to board The St. James to find out why the Captain decided to turn on us>"
Blakus found himself nodding at Sharp's suggestion, exploring the nebula might be a good idea. The duty science officer seemed to agree, finding it a possibility that that was indeed where the St. James was hiding. The Captain ordered the ship forward into the outskirts of the Balsara system.
Minutes later, at the nebula...
"Commander Sharp, science officer, continue scanning the area. If he's hiding in here, we can find him." The XO ordered.
Blakus's determination to find Usana hadn't been dimmed by the Captain's laughter. While he may have had a point, part of what defined his first officer was his headstrong but near narcicistic behaviour in situations such as these; a frustratingly slippery enemy that served only to damage Blakus's self-esteem. Those characteristics were presenting themselves even in his current state of mind.
After a while more of fruitless searching of the nebula, the XO turned to the Captain, silently asking for permission. Torek nodded minusculely in return. Blakus exhaled a breath and heavily, tiredly turned his eyes on the helmswoman. "Take us in to the nebula, Ensign, a third impulse. Head for the denser cloud packets.
"Continue scanning, sweep this entire damned region," the XO ordered once he'd stood up, his stance set challengingly to the screen. The young woman at the helm glanced around at the Executive officer a little nervously, not able to tell if he was angry or not. To her, it seemed as if he was keeping a quietly furious disposition to himself, a near-silent vigil but hiding beneath it a mind of bubbling fury that may unleash itself any moment.
The Raven swept through the myriad colours of the nebula that were constantly intermingling with each other, experiencing each other, part of the whole. Streamers of the gas and dust of the nebulous cloud were formed by the Raven's passage, swirling tunnels of matter trailing off the ship's edges as if following some metal god in its endeavour. On board, the crew worked frantically, trying to locate the ship that had performed the ultimate betrayal of Starfleet.

The 'apparent' electric current running through Torek's seat, preventing him from sitting still, finally got the better of him and he stood up.
"Where the hell are you Captain." he said, almost, but not quite inaudibly.
"Sir ?" the Navigation Officer queried.
"Nothing Ensign. Carry on." Carl said, returning to his seat.
He knew that everyone was doing all they could to find the St James. Scott had worked his usual magic down in Engineering, and the Raven had full warp capability.. 'Not that it was needed at the moment' Torek thought with a further wary glance at the view-screen.
Traks had begun the autopsies some time ago, and should have reported at least something to him by now. Carl wanted any excuse not to have to face the growing possibility that he would have to fire on, or even destroy, another Federation Star ship .. Along with her crew ...
Ninety minutes ... Ninety minutes they had been scanning this godforsaken nebula, and still nothing !.. He couldn't help think they had lost the St James when he caught his Exec' looking at him. Carl gave a single nod.
"Helm .." Blakus said, "Take us in to the nebula, one third impulse .. Head for the denser cloud packets. Continue scanning, sweep this entire damned region."
"Aye Sir." she said after a moment, "Sensor effectiveness will be greatly reduc ......"
"We know Ensign." Torek interrupted, seeing Andae getting as frustrated as he was, "Just do your best ... Science Officer, do all you can to enhance sensor resolution while we're in here."
Achingly slowly, the minutes passed .. The view-screen was a wash of color and static interference. If the St James was in here they would have to almost physically bump into her to know she was there.
"We can't stay in here indefinitely. we are looking at 'weeks' in here at this rate." Carl said, sighing loudly, "...... Is it possible we're chasing shadow's ?"
"You've got an idea ?" Blakus asked.
"Every one of the planets in this system is blanketed in soup so thick we'd need to almost break the atmosphere to see the surface ..." Carl mused, "... What if, and I'm just guessing here, what if Usana cut all power to his drive systems and headed to one of those planets. Re-activating the impulse engines and maneuvering thrusters, he could land the St James without leaving a trail .. Right ?"
"He would need to set his approach precisely from outside the system ... Would he even be able to come up with such an idea ? Blakus said.
Carl glanced at the view-screen once again, then turned to his Exec' with a shrug.
"I did ......"
"Captain .." the Science Officer said, ".. the St James is open to space the length of her Engineering Section. Even with force-fields, Her Captain needs to restore hull integrity before he can move that ship faster than low warp ..." he finished, raising his eyebrows slightly.
"Six hours." Torek said, a new determination growing within him, "We'll search here for six hours them go looking for our needle in a haystack !"
With that, Carl jumped out of his seat and headed for his ready room ..........

Blakus tapped his fingers on the edge of the Command chair. The Raven had been meticulously searching for over five and a half hours, the crew's endless sensor scans were growing desperate. It was a very frustrating search, especially considering that it may well prove fruitless. Every pocket of gas and dense patch of dust that the Raven unsuccessfully probed into with her sensors, left the crew thinking that they were wasting their time.
The XO had stepped off the bridge only once in the five and a half hours they'd been searching for the St. James. He'd been left in charge of the bridge by the Captain, whose whereabouts he did not know. He twisted in his seat uneasily, trying to get comfortable.. he was sure his body was not physically made for the command seat.
"Mister Sharp, have we found anything yet? Anything at all?" Blakus asked. Checking his console, Sharp replied non-commitedly, but definitely negative. Blakus sighed, "We have twenty minutes to go, let's really push into the nebula. Then we'll move out at full impulse under the Captain's suggestion."
"Sir," a blue collared officer got his attention, suddenly standing beside the XO resting in the command seat.
"Yes Ensign," Blakus said, turning to the officer.
"The medical department reports from the morgue, Commander Traks has completed his autopsy on the bodies from the St. James."
Blakus nodded to urge the Ensign on, bringing his attention back to the man just as he'd been drifting back to watching the hypnotic swirls of the nebula.
"The Captain's instincts were correct, sir. Here is the Commander's report; he says that all the crew were found to have some kind of foreign device implanted into the base of their brains, just above the spinal cord. They appear to have some limited transceiver system as well as a self-contained cortical-"
"Ok, thank you, Ensign. I can see what this is getting at..." Blakus trailed off as he read carefully through the PADD on his lap. He waved the Ensign away with one hand. Fascinating stuff, he thought.. It really was. Shame he couldn't bring his full rational focus to it; only an odd type of recognition, characterised by a detached mental state. A new perspective and an interesting if frustrating one at that.
He neared the end of the report, and without looking up from the words he hit the comm system control on the chair's arm panel with his loose hand. "Captain Torek to the bridge."
Almost immediately, the Captain appeared through his ready room door and went to assume his chair. "Sir, Traks' completed autopsy report," Blakus handed the PADD quickly into Torek's grasping hands as he got up. He let the Captain read it, to analyse it for himself.
The XO headed up and over to Jamison, who was intensely studying his tactical console. "Will," Blakus said to him quietly once he was beside him, "I have a job for you, something to be investigated around your normal duties, of course.. I would like you to try and track any potential receivers of the transceiver system in those devices, the ones in the heads of those bodies we recovered. I have a strong suspicion that the Mysar might be involved with Usana and his crew's treachery.
Blakus checked the chronometer on the tactical display. "We have fifteen minutes 'til we need to be out of here. Head to sickbay and have the staff get you access to one of those implants still in those bodies' skulls. If the transceiver is still active that could tell us what we want. Have Commander McLean help you if you need some help analysing the device itself. The rest will hopefully be inter-ship tracking."
<Tag Jamison>
Blakus resumed his seat and watched his Captain for reactions to the autopsy's findings.

=^= Captain Torek to the Bridge =^= Carl opened his eye's .. He'd been looking at every report made by, or including the current Commanding Officer of the St James. There was nothing, absolutely nothing, to explain his actions. Yes, he had 'opinions' that didn't always conform to what was considered the norm, but hell, what Captain hadn't fallen fowl of that .. Leaving his ready room, Carl entered the Bridge. He was handed a PADD as he took his seat. Checking the chronometer above the view-screen, he could see they had less than fifteen minutes of searching before the Raven would leave and begin a systematic search of the nearby planets. He was reading the report, Commander Blakus at his side when the Comm activated .. =^= Sick-bay to Bridge .. Is the Captain there ? =^= Carl frowned, glancing at his Exec' =^= Here Doctor =^= =^= Captain .. Mister Jamison has just arrived to conduct tests on those implants =^= =^= Yes ? =^= Torek said, getting a nod of confirmation from Blakus. =^= Well I was certain we beamed aboard seventeen bodies ...... But we have just run a secondary scan on the probe in the body I have on my table, and the scan registers twenty seven and 'NOT' seventeen probes in all ..... =^= =^= That can't be right =^= Torek said, but before he could get a reply, they felt the ship shudder violently ... Not once, but twice ! " WARNING ... WARNING ... Explosion detected Deck twenty four Life Support" the Computer said, "INTRUDER ALERT ... Deck twenty four .. Deck thirty four !" The ship was suddenly rocked by yet another explosion .. " WARNING ... WARNING ... Explosion detected deck thirty four Environmental Support !" Torek and Blakus were out of their seats, both leaping to consoles to check the situation .. "Get your Marines down to those decks Lieutenant LaGrange !" Blakus said, "Secure all area's." the Marine Commander nodding as she fled the Bridge barking orders into her Comm badge !. "Internal force-fields have been disabled Captain." the duty Security Officer said, "I'm trying to get them back up now." "How did they get onboard ?" Torek almost shouted, "Get all available personnel to those decks. We can't afford for them to hit us again !" Carl slammed his fist against the panel. Usana was going to destroy the Raven at any cost. But it wasn't Usana, Carl knew that now .. It still didn't remove the fact that he might just need to defend his ship and crew by making the ultimate decision .. Will he need to destroy the USS St James, along with almost one hundred and seventy Star Fleet Officers ... Or does he allow the Raven, with her One thousand plus crew, civilians, and families, to be wiped from space .... He watched his Bridge Staff doing their jobs, and thought .. 'Am I Judge, Jury, and now ? ..........'< tag : Jamison / Blakus / ALL .. Running Battle maybe >

Usana sat in his command chair on the bridge of his ship, Kol Dremar had been secluded in Usana’s ready room for the last hour not to be seen. All Usana knew was he had restricted access to the communications array and was apparenty in constant contact with someone.
**Ready Room St. James**
“Well did it work?”
Kol asked angrily as he stared at a Mysar on the captains personal computer screen.
“Yes Lord the incursion went without detection ten of my best men have been selected for the mission.”
Kol for the first time in the last hour smiled a genuine smile, he nodded as he said. “The deities bless the Romulans and their cloaking devices.”
The comm. Channel closed and Kol stood up and marched onto the bridge,
“Usana time we left this planet the Raven is ripe for the picking.”
Usana stood up and shook his head violently. “This ship is too damaged to go head to head with a Galaxy class starship.”
Kol walked over and sat in the command chair and looked to Usana as he said. “Humans so weak and stupid, right as we speak the Raven is being boarded and sabotaged.”
Usana frowned and thought over things in confusion, “How Mysar ships are no match for even old Starfleet Vessels never mind a Galaxy Class.”
Kol rolled his eyes, “Naive fool we have a Captured Romulan Scout ship off of their starboard bow as we speak.. by the time we get to them they will be no match for even a drunk Ferengi captain.”
***U.S.S Raven***
Five Mysar Soldiers, in the millitary dress of thier species run directly into Main Engineering and for the first time since slipping onboard start firing their weapons at the surprised crew.

"Internal force-fields have been disabled Captain." the duty Security Officer said, "I'm trying to get them back up now."
"How did they get on board ?" Torek almost shouted, "Get all available personnel to those decks. We can't afford for them to hit us again !"
Blakus was at the Science Station, running through systems checks. Maybe they had missed something.
"Our shields fluctuated for several seconds earlier. Along with power." Andae said, frowning at the panel, "I would suggest a ......"
"They beamed in during the fluctuations !" Carl finished, "That means there is a cloaked ship out there."
The duty Navigation Officer began scanning the area around the Raven, but the interference from the nebula was causing all manner of problems for her. The readings were sporadic, and unreliable. There was no way at the moment that 'if' there was a ship, they would be able to detect it. Firing blind into the nebular will get them nowhere either.
Carl surmised, considering the locations of the beam-ins, the cloaked vessel could be directly below the Raven. Close enough to ensure getting at least 'some' of their people safely aboard, but not too close to brush shields, that would show up like a solar flare, even in here.
=^= Lieutenant LaGrange to Bridge .. We're taking fire .. We have four Mysar pinned down near Environmental Support .. I have two dead Captain =^=
=^= Set all weapons to 'kill' .. They must not be allowed to get from that section Mister LaGrange =^=
=^= Understood Captain =^=
The Comm closed.
"Firing reported in Main Engineering." Lieutenant Kyle said from Tactical, "A force field has been erected around the warp core. They report Commander McLean has been hit but they are holding the Mysar off at present."
"Get more people down there." Torek said, watching the view-screen as if the hidden ship was just going to oblige by appearing ahead of them, while reports of casualties, fatalities, on both sides, came in ..........

“Intruder Alert.” Rang through Main Engineering with the Main Computer’s monotone voice. For the computer’s lack of emotion in her voice her intruder alert siren sure did send an eerie feeling down McLean’s spine.
“All right you heard the lady,” McLean said as he rushed over to a wall locker, “gear up!” With a few keystrokes the well locker opened up to expose two phase rifles and enough Phasers for every engineering crewmember on duty. McLean had learned long ago, and at the cost of several crewmembers that Main Engineering needed a weapon’s cache since it was always the most likely of spots to be hit. However, this was the first time they were using these modified Phasers, and that notion alone send butterflies racing around the Engineer’s belly.
“Listen up!” McLean shouted, “These Phasers are programmed for stun only. Remember if you hit somebody they will be getting back up eventually, so do your best to find something to restrain the intruders.”
McLean’s experience in past raids proved useful as he coordinated his engineers. The weapon’s locker came with several contingencies. First the Phasers were set to stun only, second they were programmed with a safety scanners, which had only the finger and palm prints of active crewmembers, making the weapon useless in foreign hands. The last, and the one that made McLean smile, was that the Phaser Rifles were issued only to the Chief Engineering and his Assistant. These were the only two weapons in Main Engineering that could kill.
The next moments happened in slow motion, firefights usually did in McLean’s experience. The side doors to Main Engineering slide open to reveal several soldiers with weapons at the ready. The shocked Engineers standing in front of those doors didn’t stand a chance. Four Starfleet officers went down in the first seconds of the firefight.
“Take cover!” McLean shouted as he ducked below a think center standing console.
Phaser fire dashed through Main Engineering above McLean’s head, so close that he could feel the heat from the impacts against the closest wall. They were definitely playing for keeps. McLean fired several shots with his Phaser Rifle, but the shots were high and too wide to hit any of the well-covered intruders. It did make him and his heavy weapon a target because McLean found himself under more intense fire after his initial volley.
“Anderson! Try and flank them.” McLean shouted to his Assistant.
“Aye, aye Chief.”
McLean stood up to give the boys some cover but as he moved past his cover a stray Phaser blast struck him dead in his right shoulder, sending him down to the ground.
“The Chief’s been hit!” Somebody shouted nearby.
McLean’s vision was blurred, his shoulder felt as if it had been hit by a small freighter at high warp. He then tried to move his fingers but found that his entire arm was unresponsive.
“Take this.” McLean said pushing his Phaser Rifle off on whoever it was that was standing over him, “Keep laying down heavy fire.”
“Aye sir.”
McLean rested himself up against the console and tapped his COM badge, “Bridge this is Main Engineering. We could use some help down here.”

The Mysar soldiers in Engineering were pinned down they knew very well that there was no way they could gun down all of the human crew so the leader of the five screamed out.
“Forget the humans target the control panels.”
The Mysar followed their orders and started firing their phasers at control panel indiscriminately; the control panels exploded in sparks and smoke as they were hit by weapons fire.
The Commander watched as to of his men collapsed after being hit with phaser blasts, but he didn’t care he knew this was a suicide mission. He continued firing at control panels and anything else that was glowing, except the warp core kol had ordered the ship stay in one piece.
His team and the Starfleet crew on the other hand were expendable.
One more of his team was hit and he was left with only himself and another man, knowing his time was almost up he set his disruptor weapon on overload and tossed it at the Engineering stations main diagnostic table.
A few seconds later it exploded taking a chunk of the table with it, he smiled as he stood up and allowed himself to be shot.
The remaining Mysar did the same and fell to the floor in a heap, seconds later the security personnel showed up to see that Engineering had been hit hard.

"Get more people down there." Torek was about to reply when the Bridge shook, the result of yet another explosion. Torek slammed his fist into the arm of his seat. Blakus wiped his brow with the sleeves of his uniform; they were already wet with sweat. He was still at the science console, trying to find a way to reestablish the ship's life support. The lack of renewed breathable oxygen was not bothering the crew that much, yet. Blakus didn't want to worry the bridge crew overmuch, especially with everything else that he and they had their hands full with.
Environmental systems were on the verge of failure as well. The explosion that had wracked Environmental support on deck 34 was causing the operating systems to fluctuate wildly in their level of functioning. Blakus could do nearly nothing from his console, he needed to be down there.
Another explosion below deck somewhere caused the whole bridge to shudder, the consoles momentarily vibrating with resonance in their bolted sockets under the floor. The crew stabilised themselves with difficulty. Blakus watched the Captain cry out with frustration, ramming his fist on to the side of his chair. The XO thought he knew how he felt; the Mysar continued to rip great chunks out of the operating systems of the Raven, the bridge were powerless to stop them.
Again he experienced the feeling of needing to get down below. The urge was strong, but his place was on the bridge. The XO of the Raven would just have to try and trust those responsible for removing the Mysar threat. Besides, it was not exactly a desire of his to be in a firefight with a boarding party, his combat skills were not the best on the ship, especially when he took into consideration Lieutenant LaGrange and her marines. The egotistical side of him wished to be in that fight but any such thoughts were soon quelled by sensibility, it disappointed him to be cowed in such a manner but that was just one of the facts of his job.
Commander T'roc's report came through. The implants inside the Mysar soldiers seemed to be performing a different function to the ones inside the St. James' crew. They killed the host on the impact of any kind of weapons hit, be it on a stun setting or disintegration.
"Captain, if there is a cloaked ship then we could deploy a small tachyon grid to detect its position. It will take a while to set up yes, and someone would need to be in deflector control to set it up, but I don't believe it will be dispersed by the nebula should we use it."
A junior officer at the engineering console at the bridge's rear heard what the first officer was saying from the science station, and decided to remind him of something. "Commander Blakus, engineering has been hit. All the controls are wrecked and we'd need those consoles to set up an active tachyon beam."
Blakus turned sharply to the officer, giving him a glare which he seemed unfazed by. "You may be right," the XO muttered looking back to the science station. "But we can still do it if we do all the necessary setup and calibration from Deflector Control. It just makes it a little more tricky," he looked questioningly at Torek.

Even though McLean wanted the other engineers to be helped first, the medic attending to his shoulder wound continued to insist that his wound was the worst by far.
“Hold still Commander.” The Lieutenant ordered as he ran the dermal regenerator over the dark burn patch on McLean’s shoulder.
Despite the hypospray filled with painkillers the young medic had given to McLean, the engineer could still feel the deep tissue burns as the medic manipulated his arm to get a better angle for his dermal regenerator. That pain was insignificant compared to the damage done by the explosive tossed by the attackers. McLean heart felt as if it had been ripped open again as the ghosts of his past were starting to rise to the surface again. More damage to repair, more dead crewmembers to account for, this wasn’t what Starfleet was about.
“I’m all done here, but I suggest you take it easy for the next couple of days.”
McLean looked at the young doctor with an inquisitive expression. Was the boy unaware of the damage that had been caused all around him, and moreover was he unaware that he was working on the Chief Engineer. Rest for McLean was impossible.
It didn’t take long for the doctor to catch on, he quickly snuck a few glances in before turning back to his patient, “Yeah…do you want me to immobilize your arm?”
“No.” McLean answered directly as he began to put his undershirt back on. The pain had subsided a little but as he stuffed his arm through the sleeves of his jacket the pain came racing back. The doctor caught on quick but said nothing. “Thanks Doc.” McLean said as he rose to his feet for the first time in nearly a half an hour.
As a precaution McLean felt it was best to hold his arm up against his body and use it as little as possible, but judging by his first glance that wasn’t going to be an easy task.
“Chief are you all right?” Anderson asked. The young man looked like hell but he was otherwise all right.
“Yeah I am. I want you to get all emergency repair crews down here ASAP. Reroute all non essential repair crews to return to Main Engineering, we need to find out what we can fix, and what we’ve lost completely.”
”Sure thing Chief.”
“And Anderson.”
“Yes?”
“You did good kid. Take care of this down here, I need to get up to the bridge to transfer all available controls to the bridge.”
“Thank you sir.” Anderson smiled and rushed off to carry out his orders.
McLean ran through the corridors of the ship until he reached the bridge. I was then that he noticed that he was still carrying his phaser in its holster. At first he hoped that nobody would notice, but after a few seconds worth of thought he decided it was an irrelevant concern. They were under attack by an alien race that had already launched an aggressive assault on Main Engineering, who knows what was next.
After a few keystrokes McLean initiated the auto-rerouting program from the bridge. It was going to take sometime for the computer to compile the list of damaged systems and reroute them through the ships many networks from Main Engineering to the bridge, especially with most of the power relays damaged or destroyed in the engineering section.
“Captain, we should have Engineering’s main console controls transferred to the bridge within 30 minutes. The damage done by the attack is causing the delay.” He had hoped that in that time another attack didn’t happen because they would be a sitting duck.

Usana walked off the bridge as the St. James finally left the planets atmosphere, He walked into his ready room and stared out of his window, he felt strange there were two sets of thoughts running in his mind one was his own the other were the result of the implant in the back of his skull.
Usana turned quickly as he heard his door open, he relaxed when he saw it was Theo McGarry his trusted XO.
Usana shook his head slowly as he walked over to the other side of his ready room, he stopped when he reached the wall and looked up to a portrait of the person he always wanted to be.
He lowered his head a she recited one of the best known speeches given by the man in the portrait.
“We shall go on to the end, We Shall fight in France. We shall fight on the seas and oceans; we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air. We shall defend our Island whatever the cost may be, we will fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills. We shall never surrender.”
McGarry nodded his head, he was suffering the same as Usana and they both knew it, for some reason their real personalities were beginning to take back hold of their minds.
“He never had a chip in the back of his head controlling him sir.”
Usana let out a deep breath as he turned around and looked at his oldest friend. “No I guess not, but we must ourselves not surrender whatever the cost may be, we have to find a way to stop Kol before he takes anymore lives.”
McGarry shook his head slowly. “The rest of the crew are showing no signs of their normal selves they follow Kol’s orders as if nothing is wrong.. he has security guarding every critical system on the ship… we make a move and fail we are dead and then there is no one to stop him… we have to bide our time sir.”
He didn’t like it and he wished his old friend was wrong but Usana knew it was true he was a prisoner on his own ship, forced to watch his crew do the very things Starfleet stood against.
McGarry looked out of the window and frowned.
“We are heading in the wrong direction I thought Kol was going after the Raven?”
McGarry shook his head and replied. “No he just gave orders to head for a Mysar colony… apparently he needs to pick something up… I have no idea what though.”
*** Captured Romulan Vessels bridge***
The Mysar commander sitting in the centre seat whipped his head around as he heard the report from one of his men. “What did you say?” he screamed
The young soldier bowed his head as he repeated. “The cloak is failing sir… we have no idea how to fix it.”
The Commanders eyes opened wide as he looked out of the view screen. “Would we be able to outrun them.” He asked as he looked at the side of the Raven
The young soldier shook his head. “No sir and we have two minutes before we de-cloak.”
The Commander stood up and said in a low voice. “We fight then… they will no doubt try to board us to gain information on Fleet Commander Kol’s location, the second they step foot on this ship activate the auto destruct sequence… we cant beat them in a fire fight and we can’t let them find the information they want.. the least we can do is teach them a lesson and break their moral.”

Sitting in his seat, he was ready to call it a day in the nebula. There was a cloaked ship out there that could destroy them in minutes id it so desired, but for some, unfathomable reason, the Commander chose to leave them guessing .. Unless of course, they were under the same control as the McCauliffe and St James crews, Carl mused silently.
"What the ......"
"Mister Parkin ?" Carl asked the Science Officer, "Something wrong."
"Sorry Captain. I was sure I picked up anoth ... There it is again !" he said, studying his console intently, "Tactical can you tie-in to my panel .. I'm certain there's a vessel off our Starboard quarter."
"It's supposed to be cloaked." Torek said puzzled.
"Sir." the duty Tactical Officer said, "I'm picking up a ship .. Romulan .. It's a scout ship."
"I could care less !" Torek replied quickly, "Lock onto that ship and fire all phasers."
The Raven unleashed power that would obliterate must objects that had the misfortune to get in the way, but the small ship, although loosing her cloak, still had shields. Carl wanted to hit it with everything they had before it could get a massage to the St James, and Kol ..
"We should disable and board her Captain." Blakus said.
"No ... Disable by all means, but I've no intention of wasting time boarding her. I want the St James."
The Raven shuddered under a barrage of photon torpedoes as they impacted the shields.
"We can't take that indefinitely." Andae said.
"Full volley photon torpedoes." Carl said, watching the small ship intently.
"Direct hit .. Their shields have failed." the Tactical Officer said, "Sir their core is rupturing .. She's going to go Captain, we need to move !"
"Get us the hell out of here Helm." Carl said, and less than two seconds later the massive Galaxy Class vessel began a turn and headed away from the scout ship .. Then it exploded spectacularly, igniting a substantial portion of the nebular as it did so. The Raven burst into open space with a fraction of a second to spare.
"Damage reports." Torek said.
"Sir ... I'm picking up the St James." Ensign Salmon said from the Helm, "She has just come from behind the fourth planet of this system."
"Heading ?" Carl asked, leaning forward in his seat.
"Into Mysar space Captain .. She's jumped to warp."
"Get after her Helm." Blakus said, then frowned, "Why would she be heading deeper into the Mysar system, surely they would want to get rid of us first. Kol must know we're going to follow them."
"They don't know !" Carl said, realization dawning, "They think their 'friends' have destroyed us. Drop back, I don't want them picking us up on their sensors. Lock onto their warp signature, we'll follow that. Let's hope we get to where they're going before they move again." ..........

Commander McLean had done an excellent job of rerouting main engineering functions to the bridge, so Blakus readied himself to try and uncover the cloaked ship, wherever it actually was.
But he didn't have to, and in an instant his entire idea was wiped off the board of consideration. The science officer picked up what turned out to be a Romulan Scout Ship off the Raven's starboard quarter. Having the newly discovered vessel that was the source of their recent woes pummelled by the Raven's weapons, but refusing Blakus's suggestion to board it, Torek ordered the Raven out of the nebula.
"Drop back," he said, "I don't want them picking us up on their sensors. Lock onto their warp signature, we'll follow that. Let's hope we get to where they're going before they move again."
Blakus nodded, moving away from the engineering and science consoles and back to the command arena, "Mister Sharp, scan for the St. James's ion trail. Helm, get us up to speed now we are out of the nebula and after the St. James. Sharp, pass the ion trail data to the helm."
<Tag Sharp>
The Raven was underway, trailing and shadowing the St. James from afar but staying close enough so that, hopefully, they would not lose them.
Ten minutes later...
For the last sixth of an hour Blakus had been studying the arm panel on the XO's chair. It showed a small sensor display of the ship's course relative to the Mysar system now immediately before them. He frowned at what it was telling him. "Helm," he said, "Where are we going?"
"Err, sirs, the trail seems to fade here, I am taking us into the system according to the very faint traces that remain."
"Commander Sharp?"
Sharp reported that the trail did indeed fade. Blakus looked in exasperation at the viewscreen, displayed on it was the blackness of space pierced by several very bright 'stars', that were in fact the planets of the Balsara system. The Italian-born officer turned his exasperated gaze on the impassive face of the Captain, the neutral features of which, Blakus knew belied a boiling determination to find the St. James once again. They had lost them. "Helm, from what remains of this non-existent ion trail, extrapolate the most likely destination and take us to that planet."
"I advise we keep hidden from the St. James, sirs," the duty tactical officer said. "Because we cannot see them, does not mean they cannot see us." Blakus saw Torek nodding.
Blakus nodded too, he had considered that. "Very insightful Lieutenant," he murmured.
Ensign Salmon, the helm officer spoke up, "I have a possible destination, the fourth planetoid.. and there appears to be a near-by asteroid belt, I believe we could hide amongst those, sirs."
The Raven headed for the planetoid. Scanning the surface, it revealed itself to be a colony world. Several settlements, including one major one with what appeared to be a spaceport, revealed itself. In the darkness of space over the colony, the Galaxy class silently slipped around the planet, using it as a slingshot on the way to the asteroid field.
Large, bulky and grey rocks 'floated' still as if they were in suspended animation on the bridge's viewscreen. Blakus's eyes widened upon sight of one in particular; on the terminator of this particular asteroid was a partially shadowed, sizeable crater. "At least a kilometre wide that crater," he said. Torek nodded in agreement.
Ensign Salmon guided the Raven, which was now running on minimal power, carefully into the asteroid's crater. Not having any sort of landing capability, Salmon kept the ship nestled in the crater and matched velocities; making small adjustments using maneuvering thrusters to the Raven's trajectory so that it matched with the asteroid and stayed 'hovering' in the crater.
Once they were finally in, Blakus sat back with a sigh, the contradictory messages pounding on the inside of his head exhausting him and becoming harder and harder to ignore. He looked at Torek, and was truly astounded at the renewed look of determination upon his Captain's face. Next stop, the planet below..

The St. James dropped out of warp, the neccels of the ship returned to the flat position as the St. James approached a large brown planet at impulse speed.
The ship entered the atmosphere with flashes of red and white hitting the shields, the St. James slowed as it approached a large landing padd on the outskirts of a busy city.
She landed with a thud, and seconds later the massive air pad normally used for hundreds of Mysar fighters and cargo ships sunk into the ground, the St. James was swallowed by the ground. A large thick metal door closed above the ship hiding her from view.
On the bridge of the St. James the blue lights switched off as the ship stood down from blue alert, Kol stood up from the captains chair and turned to look at Usana and said.
“Clear the cargo hold of everything and prepare room for a squadron of my soldiers they will be joining us soon.”
Usana nodded as he pointed to several crewman to do what Kol had asked.
With that Kol walked to a computer console and locked down all ship systems so no one but him could gain access, it wasn’t so much that he was worried the Starfleet officers would try something but one of his Mysar officers might try to take the prize for themselves while he was off the ship.
Kol walked off the bridge and ten minutes later had transported himself to the city, he had some contacts to meet the equipment he had arranged to have delivered was very expensive and was bound to draw attention to himself so he wanted to get it and go as quickly as possible

Carl watched, as on the view-screen, the rim of the crater passed from view. They were now below the surface. Ensign Salmon was working hard, programing the helm to keep the Raven stationary less than fifty meters from the jagged crater floor .. "Thats it Captain." he said, resisting the urge to wipe sweat from his brow, "She should remain in-situ short of a collision from another asteroid." "Thank you Ensign." Carl said. "I'll get a team ready Captain." Andae said, rising from his seat. "How are you going to get to the surface ?" Sharp asked. "The asteroid belt is highly magnetic in nature, it's giving off conflicting readings." the Science Officer said, "That should be able to mask a shuttle approaching the planets surface." Torek got out of his seat, causing the Exec' to pause .. "I'm coming down there with you Commander." Carl said, "There's over one hundred and eighty Star fleet personnel down there somewhere. We need to find them ......" Andae turned to the Chief engineer .. "Commander McLean ... The Captain will be joining the away-team. You have the Con." "Aye ... Sir." Scott said, glancing at his friend. Blakus pointed to who he wanted on the team, Instructing them to dress in civilian clothing. They would need to conceal their Comm badges and carry hand phasers only. Then nodding to Torek, headed for the turbo-lift. ~~~~~~~~~~The Marine piloting the shuttle was good ... He brought them into the atmosphere on the dark side, dropping like a stone, like some surreal, extreme roller coaster ride, until pulling up when they were less than sixty meters off the surface. Dropping to a mere twenty meters, he didn't bother to reduce speed as he avoided rocky out-crops, hills, and open spaces .. Less than six minutes from launch, he lifted the nose of the shuttle in a power-stall maneuver and dropped to the surface with barely any signs of disturbance. "Sorry about the ride Captain." the man said apologetically. "Nothing to be sorry about Lieutenant ... Where exactly are we ?" "The spaceport settlement is approximately one thousand two hundred meters directly ahead Sir." "You couldn't get us closer ?" Torek said, grinning. "The walk will do you good." Blakus said, laughing. Carl threw him his best dirty look, which just caused his Exec' to laugh more. "OK ... Grab your gear everyone ..." Carl said, "We have a bit of a walk and it's approaching twenty two thirty local time. We need to get in there under the cover of darkness." Minutes later, they set out on their one kilometer trek to their destination .......... < tag : All on the Away team >
