Magellan watched quietly from the window of his Ready Room as the Starfleet Tug pulled the round Station in to position. A pair of SCE work bees buzzed past placing phaser and torpedo mines around what had been established as the perimeter. In the middle distance was the USS Bell the Starfleet Corps of Engineers sabre class vessel.
He too was on a sabre, the Copenhagen to be exact. One of the two support ships assigned to Assailant. Zoilip was on the bridge whilst he collected his thoughts and watched the 'Hub' be manouvred in to its final resting place. Such a small installation with such large hopes pinned upon it.
***
On Assailant Commander F'rass was also staring through the view screen, this time at a departing liner and an incoming Freighter. With his traditional expertise he handled the day to day passage of traffic to and from the station with ease.
The operations centre was moderatly quiet many of those not required had gone to watch Commodore Savalis trial of General Ch'Lork. The rogue Klingon who had threatened the entire regions safety and security.
The capture of Ch'lork whilst not ending the war between the Klingons and Tholians had promoted a renwed kind of stalemate. Forces on both sides had hunkered down and reinforced their positions with little more than minor skirmishes occuring where the two sides met.
"Commander, we have the Copenhagen returning." Dales reported from Comms.
"Very good Ensign, Have the Admiral berthed in Dock C and clear them."
***
Nurse Tsomba stood impassivley watching the isolation room through the plexi glass window. The Tholian ambassador, Lovine, remained comatose on the bio bed. Her assitant at her side. She had yet to see the other Tholian leave her side to sleep or even eat.
Dr Mercy and Healer T'Val were in their office in conference. Treating a Tholian was difficult at best especially when the Tholian government suspected the Federation or Klingons of poisoning their ambssador.
Her eyes returned to the life signs monitor as its readings pinged and beeped, as long as that continued there was still hope.

Tedak approached the nurse, pulling his robe back on. He had previously been examined by Stuart, before the doctor had secluded himself in his office to confer with his fellow doctor, and wife, T'Val. The Romulan wondered if the two had made any headway on conceiving a child, and prayed that they would be successful. He knew how much T'Val longed for a child of her own, and how she suffered from D'Beren's loss. Even he was still feeling a stab of pain when he thought of the lively toddler, who had been killed in a shuttlecraft crash, while on his way to Qualinost to attend one ceremony or the other.
"How is she?" he enquired softly, while pulling up a seat beside the bed the Tholian ambassador occupied. The Tholian on the other side threw him a threatening look, which he ignored altogether. "She's my friend," he told the Tholian, "I'm not moving from this seat. If you want me gone, either have a doctor order it, or remove me yourself." He cast the bodyguard a threatening look of his own, which made him look scary and dangerous to say the least.
When the bodyguard made no reply, the Romuilan settled back in his seat, keeping his eyes on the still comatose Lovine. After a while, he rose to his feet and walked out of sickbay. He had a few of the El-Aurian children under his wing, and he had a few classes to attend to. The children in his classes ranged in ages from 4 to 15. Some of the older children had preferred an 'apprenticeship' to one of the starbase departments, while others had made it quite clear that they didn't desire to be taught by a Romulan.
Though some of the very racist remarks had clearly stung the Romulan's pride, Tedak had made no further mention of it, and didn't treat them differently because of it. They were children, and he loved to teach. Some were quite taken with the Romulan and Tedak had even resorted to fostering some of the younger children. "Now," he started, as the children had taken their seats in the make-shift classroom, "has everyone finished their homework on Federation history?"
A child, aged approximately thirteen years old raised his hand. "I'm not quite sure what was asked," the boy asked, clearly embarassed. "I've given an overview of the warlike aspects of the Federation," he explained, handing over his PADD.
The Romulan frowned, but smiled all the same. The children were finally settling into a daily routine, though some had taken the departure of their parents quite hard, and blamed the Federation. As a result, they sought to dig up the Federation's blackest histories, twisting it to their own fancies. "If that was your choice of aspect, then that is quite acceptable," he replied, as he stacked the PADD atop the others he collected. "I will review your homework and we shall discuss the results next lesson. Does anyone have any questions?"
He dismissed the class, when none appeared to have any important queries. One of the older girls remained behind, a stricken look on her face. "Do you have a question after all Arana?"
The girl nodded. "Where are my parents? Why can't I go where they are?"
Tedak pulled up a seat and sat down beside her, taking her hand between both his own. "Your parents are waiting for you in the Nexus, and wanted nothing more than to take you. However, it wouldn't be your choice as they wanted to take you. When you're old enough, you can decide for yourself if you want to join them in the Nexus. Until then, you can remain here on Assaillant. Do you like your classes and other activities here?"
The girl pulled her hand back, then reached out to him. Apprehensively waiting, Tedak observed and waited to see what she was doing. When it appeared she simply wanted a hug and be comforted, he relented and returned the hug. "Go tend to your free time now," he encouraged, "come find me if you want to talk. I have other duties to attend to now." The girl ran after her peers and the Romulan was left alone in the classroom.
He slumped back and sighed; he felt for these children, had fought for them to be with their parents. And now, he had to content himself in just teaching them and looking out for them. Aside from that, there was still the looming threat of the Federation getting caught between the Klingons and the Tholians, and Tedak had yet to learn where Vebn stood in all of this. "Tedak to Vebn, are you available? I think we need to talk."

Kasumi tugged on her uniform for the tenth time since entering the turbolift. She wanted to look good for her first meeting with her new CO. She did tend to have really bad luck when it came to first meetings..and CO's in general. 'Behave..behave..' she chanted quietly to herself,'No tripping, falling..tumbling into people, no kicking and no temper..no nothing young lady..' Yea she'd made a few embarassing mistakes especially growing up. Kasumi entered the bridge, her eyes scanning the area and taking in the people at each station. She then quietly moved to the ready room and pressed the button to announce herself. (lemme in when ready )

"At ease Ensign, your not on the parade ground now" Magellan replied warmly, giving the ensign a swift up and down.
Yang was due to be the bases new Chief of Security and tactical officer.
"Welcome to Assailant." he greeted and offered Kasumi the chance to take a seat on one of the easy chairs.
"You have some big shoes to fill. Sharon Vanetti has been our CTSO for quite sometime. Shes been redeployed to the Hub, she ran a tight ship."
TAG Kasumi
Magellan chuckled "I am sure you will. Let me give you a brief tactical over view. Assailant has been upgraded and capable of holding off a small fleet. We have two support ships, sabre class. The Copenhagen is essentially a science vessel, but the Vanquisher is for defensive purposes. Commander Zoilip my Aide and Tactical Officer will be able to tell you about her staff.
On base we have 4 watch rotations and additional duties for joint policing with the Debrune on the Planet Qualinost below. Now I know this is a lot to take in but we have somewhat of a situation. Firstly there has been an information leak, Someone on base informed a klingon general that I was on my way to arrest him. Only myself, the Nevada and the diplomatic staff knew. Secondly whilst aboard the Nevada someone was able to poison the Tholian Ambassador."
TAG Kasumi
"Your first priority will be to investigate these two cases. Ambassador Lovine, the Tholian is still in sickbay. He was however with Ambassador Tedak at the time he collapsed. So perhaps start there and keep me informed. Otherwise get the Quartermaster to assign you quarters meet your staff oh and make sure you get a physical with either Dr Mercy or Healer T'Val in sickbay. Any questions?"

Kek’s POV
When finally they arrived at the Star base Kek felt nothing but contempt, he felt the entire Nevada crew should have returned with them to ensure the assassin did not escape, but it seemed that the federation had other ideas. Having given up on the idea of trying to arrest Admiral Lin considering it unwise at present to try Kek looked at the motionless body of his sister and wonder how badly he had failed, the shield protecting her from anyone was still online, and he was regretting doing so as the doctors could do little more than monitor her life signs though it. Kek had not left Lovine’s side since her collapse and until she recovered he would unlikely do so unless it was to kill the assassin. No sooner had he thought this when suddenly Tedak took the seat on the other side of Lovine, Kek almost went for the concealed blade that he had been sharpening every chance he got while in sickbay ”She's my friend," he told the Tholian, "I'm not moving from this seat. If you want me gone, either have a doctor order it, or remove me yourself." He cast the bodyguard a threatening look of his own, which made him look scary and dangerous to say the least. Kek looked at the man, ‘he is a brave one’ deciding that there was little threat to Lovine while the shield was operational he returned to his thoughts ‘in 4 days the suits power will run out, if she does not get here by then the environment in Lovine suit will shut down’.
Belkan’s POV
Belkan walked into the bridge of the ship as they began dropping out of warp, looking at the screen he saw the federation base directly in front but what he could not see were the other ships in the fleet that were slowly moving into position. “How are the others progressing?” Belkan spoke to the nearby officer who responded quickly “They are in position and have signalled they are ready to drop their cloaks with us on our signal” Belkan nodded, he was wearing his encounter suit that was very similar to Lovine’s but with an additional crest on his chest plate that showed a 3 stars surrounded by a circle, this showed he was a member of the Assembly and a third tier member at that. “Give the signal and open a channel to the base, let us hope they receive it before they decide to shoot”. Belkan knew he should have ordered the fleet to remain cloaked but the Empresses orders were clear, Belkan watched as slowly Tholian war ships began to appear on the view screen and it was only when the lights in the bridge went from blue to red he remembered that they were cloaked as well. Belkan waited for the signal interference around the ship to clear, it was a strange result of trying to mix the Romulan cloaking device with their ships, it left them incapable of communicating while de-cloaking and for a time after doing so. Belkan knew that the base would now be registering the 25 ship strong fleet that now surrounded the base, Belkan became worried when finally the officer to his right nodded to confirm they had opened a channel. “Star Base Assailant, this is Belkan aboard the Tholian War ship De’Gar, we have received word that our ambassador to you has been assassinated and we are here to investigate and arrest the assassin for trial on Tholia. You will prepare an honour guard if you wish, I will board you base in 20 minutes, do not keep me waiting” cutting the signal Belkan felt sick, he did not like the way he had spoken, but the Empress wanted to ensure they would have an honour guard without her name being mentioned on the comm. channel. “Security teams prepare for departure.” Belkan said to the chief warrior on the bridge before opening a internal connection “Empress, it is time”

It had been a while since Saarok had departed from Assailant for his consultations with the Federation council on Earth. There were several issues that needed resolving and the council requested that he attend personally. And even tough he might have thought that his presence was required on Assailant he was not in a position to reject their request. But now that the matter was resolved, at least the part where they needed his input was closed, he could once again return to Assailant. The Council chairman was kind enough to make a Galaxy class refit, the USS Berkley, available for his trip back to Assailant. And now that he had been transported to the station the ship could continue on its normal route while he could once again, retake his old position on board the base.
=/\=Computer, where is Admiral Magellan Lin=/\=
=/\=Admiral Lin is located in OPS=/\=
After getting the reply from the computer, Saarok handed his bags to one os his security officers and sent him to deposit them in his quarters while he with the second guard proceeded towards OPS. While en route to Assailant he had been briefed on the situation with the Tholians, the Klingon general, the information leak and the attempted assassination. But he needed to see if Admiral Lin could add something that was not in the reports. After a shorter ride through the station, Saarok finally arrived in OPS just in time to hear a message from a Tholian fleet demanding to conduct an investigation into the events that had transpired recently.
"Well admiral it would appear i arrived just on time", Saarok said

Magellans informal chat with Kasumi was interrupted by a distressed call from F'rass in Ops.
"Sir We have a situation."
"Go on F'rass" Magellan prompted over the comm.
"A tholian fleet is demanding retribution for their ambassadors death."
Magellan double taked and looked at Kasumi,
"Looks like your getting a trial by fire." He was quickly out of his seat and at the door into Ops.
"Red Alert all hands to Battle stations" he ordered, motioning for Kasumi to take the Tactical console.
Focused on the Master Display he could see that the Tholian fleet numbered as many as 25. Far too many to have sneaked up upon the base without being noticed suggesting all had been outfitted with the Romulan purchased cloaking devices.
"Well admiral it would appear i arrived just on time", Saarok said
Magellan turned to see the senior Ambassador stood at his side. "I might have known" he sighed, "Where you go trouble usually follows."
Saarok inclined his head as if agreeing to the assertion.
"F'rass have they made any moves."
The Regulan shook his head, "They have taken up a defensive line around the station and set up a blockade out of the system. But so far their weapons are inert and they are still repeating their hail."
"Let me hear it" Magellan ordered brusquely
“Star Base Assailant, this is Belkan aboard the Tholian War ship De’Gar, we have received word that our ambassador to you has been assassinated and we are here to investigate and arrest the assassin for trial on Tholia. You will prepare an honour guard if you wish, I will board you base in 20 minutes, do not keep me waiting”
"20 minutes how considerate. Ensign Yang please have the fighter wing launched and placed in an intercept pattern and get both the Copenhagen and Vanquisher to cover our flanks. Then prep security teams to repel boarders. Zoilip, take auxilary fire control." he paused to look at the Ops board,
"Rather an aggressive posture" Saarok noted
Magellan reined in a curt reply and instead said,
"There are 25 ships out there. We can handle 15 maybe, just maybe 20 but without Starship support 25 would make it a damn near thing and support wouldn't get here in time."
"I understand your defence but I assumed the Ambassador is not dead"
Magellan nodded. "That is true, but for some reason they think Lovine is and why they think that baffles me. This 20 minutes gives me time to shore up our defenses and persuade the Belkan that all is well. If not we could very shortly be at war with Tholia"
"Perhaps my skills will be of use."
"They certainly will. Tedak is down with Lovine now. I want her aide, Kek to contact the fleet and explain. Kek however is a recalcitrant fellow. He won't even let the Mercys look at Lovine, in fact unless Lovine is cared fro medically she is likely to be dead in 20 minutes. I need you and Tedak to make sure Lovine lives and calls of the attack dogs.
Think you can do that?"
Tag Saarok and Kasumi.
OOC: Hi Lovine, sry to hear about your situation. we're honoured your trying to take part even in hospital and many thanks to your friend for posting for you. Get well soon. Mag.

After he was done with the conversation he had been conducting with Admiral Lin, Saarok proceeded out of OPS and into the lift which was located nearby. After ordering th lift to sickbay, Saarok took a moment to sort out his thoughts on the current events. It would seem this Kek could prove to be a problem, especially if he was emotional and fails to see the logic of the situation. But the logical conclusion at this time was that he did not have enough information to make a logical conclusion on the state of Kek's mind. He would need to wait till he met the man before making any conclusions on the matter.
Once the lift came to a holt Saarok was met by his second guard who was finished with the task he had been given.
"Ambassador the manager of the Federation Embassy wishes to see you at your earliest convenience.", the man informed him
"Thank you Lieutenant", Saarok said, "However that will have to wait for now. There are more pressing matters that need my attention right now."
After ending the short conversation with his guard, Saarok proceeded, followed by his guards towards the entrance to sickbay and the place where the injured Tholian Ambassador was resting. After consulting with one of the nurses, Saarok received the location where the Tholian was and proceeded there immediately. Upon his arrival there he was the Tholian lying on the bed and beside it on one side was Ambassador Tedak and on the other another Tholian, presumably the one called Kek.
He signaled his two guards to stand back a little in order not to alarm the Tholian too much.
"Greetings Ambassador Tedak, Mr. Kek", Saarok said, "I am Ambassador Saarok of Vulcan here representing the United Federation of Planets", he said ooking at th Tholian
"Now before you attempt to attack me with that blade you believe you have concealed as a suspected assassin of your Ambassador, you should know i have only just arrived from Earth and therefore it is logical to assume i was in no position to be involved in this unfortunate event. However I do have a certain matter to discuss with you with a certain amount of urgency", he said
<Tag Tedak, Kek>
"Now i understand you have activated the protection shield built into the suit of Ambassador Lovine in order to protect here from further Assassination attempts, however you are also i am sure aware of the fact that the poison she has been poisoned with even if it is not as strong as one thinks, the more time it has to work the deadly it has a chance to become and i assume you can see the logic in the fact that if we actually wanted to hurt your Ambassador, now shield would be able to protect her therefore it is quite illogical for you to insist on not allowing the medical staff here to assist her.", Saarok said
"I have not yet finished speaking Mr. Kek if you would be patient i will get to the point", Saarok said when the Tholian thought he was done and was going to say something
"Currently in this system there is a fleet of 25 Tholian vessels who believe Lovine is dead and demand to conduct an investigation in her death. Now I am not aware how an aide to an Ambassador of importance like yourself could have permitted such an exaggeration to be transmitted to your people, as it is clearly obvious that Lovine is not dead at this time, but what is done is done. Therefore before this situation escalates and some trigger happy person on either side causes a volatile situation to become more volatile, because i assure you should such an incident occur it could seriously hamper the hopeful peace between you and the Klingons, but not only that it could also drag the Federation in a war with your people. And I am sure such an event is not in the interest of any of our people, neither yours nor mine. Therefore the only logical solution to these situation is for you to allow the doctors here to that Ambassador Lovine and allow her to make contact with the ships in orbit informing them that she is not dead. And also if you are waiting for your own doctors to come and treat her you should know that as each minute passes the chance of her recovering without any consequences is getting lower and lower.", Saarok finished

--Kek’s POV--
"Greetings Ambassador Tedak, Mr. Bek", Saarok said, "I am Ambassador Saarok of Vulcan here representing the United Federation of Planets", he said ooking at th Tholian Kek looked at the Vulcan with anger in his heart, ‘how dare he insult me so’ "Now before you attempt to attack me with that blade you believe you have concealed as a suspected assassin of your Ambassador, you should know i have only just arrived from Earth and therefore it is logical to assume i was in no position to be involved in this unfortunate event. However I do have a certain matter to discuss with you with a certain amount of urgency", he said kek did not think he was but he anger must have made him move the blade out. "Now i understand you have activated the protection shield built into the suit of Ambassador Lovine in order to protect here from further Assassination attempts, however you are also i am sure aware of the fact that the poison she has been poisoned with even if it is not as strong as one thinks, the more time it has to work the deadly it has a chance to become and i assume you can see the logic in the fact that if we actually wanted to hurt your Ambassador, now shield would be able to protect her therefore it is quite illogical for you to insist on not allowing the medical staff here to assist her.", Saarok said Kek was about to speak when Saarok continued. "I have not yet finished speaking Mr. Bek if you would be patient i will get to the point", Saarok said "Currently in this system there is a fleet of 25 Tholian vessels who believe Lovine is dead and demand to conduct an investigation in her death. “It is impossible for your staff to even scan Lovine while the shield is working and if you want me to lower it you will have more luck trying to turn a black hole into a sun, for i do not hold the code needed to disable the shield, only three people have that code, one is Lovine herself, her Grandmother and a man who died 3 months ago from a Klingon attack. And for the record i never informed my people about the attack on Lovine, the first i heard of the attack was when the Defence Lord contacted me and gave the order to raise Lovine’s personal shield and stasis systems” Kek looked down at Lovine for a moment before continuing “I wonder, who is in command of the fleet you are afraid of? I know many of the fleet commanders and most keep a very tight rein on their officers, more tightly than your officers i can be sure.”
<Tag Saarok>
“Hmmm interesting, Belkan you say, that does suggest a problem for you, if he tries to board i would advise you do not fire, or the Klingons may find themselves with an ally against you” Kek turned back to Lovine and ignored any more of the Vulcan’s words, ‘if Belkan is here then the Assembly knows, could they move before she recovers?’.
--Belkan’s POV--
Belkan felt that he had not been very successful in getting through to the federation admiral, but with only a minute left until the deadline he was not going to try contacting again. Belkan looked around the shuttle, it was jammed packed with soldiers, 25 to be exact, 6 for Belkan’s honour guard and 19 for the woman sitting next to him. The soldiers knew the plan, they would land and Belkan’s 6 would move onto the base in the standard arrival pattern and announce his arrival, then Belkan would announce the second and third member of his party. The Woman sat still, ignoring everything around her and the male was being jumpy like he was having a nightmare in the day “Doctor you need to calm yourself, you are in safe hands” as Belkan spoke the words a loud beeping sound rang though the shuttle. ‘it’s time’
Belkan did not need to give an order as the pilot had already launched the shuttle and was beginning to make their way to the base, Belkan tapped the communication terminal and spoke to the base “Assailant this is Belkan, we require a docking port, please assign the one you have placed your honour guard on so we can get on with this. You have one minute to give us the location or we will simply pick for you” Belkan closed the comm. and left the pilot to do his job. Belkan looked up to see a group of ships moving towards them, ‘they would not be that foolish would they?’

Tedak had returned to the infirmary after his duties with the El-Aurian children; especially since Vebn never had replied to his query to talk. The Romulan shrugged, it was just as well as any conversation with Vebn was likely to end up in a very one-sided shouting match, from which he just only would want to leave.
He rose to his feet, when Saarok entered the infirmary. It figured, that when need was highest, or trouble the deepest, that his old friend would return. Yet the Vulcan's words surprised him, surely Saarok saw that there was more at stake. When Kek spoke, Tedak had to work hard to keep his own temper in check, especially at the insults that were thrown his way.
"In case you forget Kek, I had the same drink she had. Would I consciously poison myself? You also forget the effect that drink had on me, and while not the same as on Lovine, trust me, it wasn't very pleasant." His voice was as cold as ice, and his tone cuting. Ignoring the young Tholian, he turned his back on him to face Saarok.
"She was poisoned while having a private conversation with me," he explained, "I got the drinks from her replicator, they were of Tholian origin and neither of us suspected someone would try to poison her. While effectively, I may have done so by giving her the drink, I did not tamper with her replicator." He paused, shrugging. "I wouldn't know how."

If Kek believed that his insults or snide remarks were going to get to Saarok, he was sadly mistaken. None of his comments caused any change in Saaroks usual composure and demeanor. It would take much, much more than incorrect physical observations to affect him.
"A man called Belkan is leading your fleet", Saarok responded to Kek, "It is... refreshing to learn your commanders have good control over their men.", Saarok added, "If what you say is accurate, they deserve every respect", he finished noticing that the man was not listening to him anymore
It would appear he did all he could do here. He learned that this man was highly emotional, and that no reasonable or logical arguments were going to have any effect on him. In some cases the emotional races made simple matters so much more complex then they logically would be if they looked the matter in its true simplicity and logic which always provided a simple solution to the problem they pose.
Saarok moved away from the biobed and stepped outside of Kek's hearing range to contact Admiral Lin.
=/\=Saarok to Admiral Lin=/\=
=/\=Lin here go ahead=/\=
=/\=Admiral I have spoken to the person we discussed earlier and have learned that he is unable to lover the protective shield around Ambassador Lovine. Apparently their is only one person who is able to lower the shield and who is still alive.=/\=
<Tag Lin>
=/\=I am afraid there is not much more i can accomplish here as the man is highly emotional and not willing to see reason. I suggest you allow the Fleet commander from the Tholian fleet to arrive on this base and that you meet with him. =/\=
<Tag Lin>
When he finished his conversation with Lin, Saarok returned to the bed where the Tholian was and spoke to Ambassador Tedak. He listened to the man's story about the poisoning. It was most interesting.
"That is a very intriguing matter", Saarok said, "To modify a replicator in such a manner. I assume that other replicators on the base were tested by having them replicate the same beverage and then this beverage tested for the poison to determine if this is a generalized issue or just a modification done to the one replicator no matter what was replicated on it?", Saarok questioned

Kasumi entered, surprised to see him on the couch instead of his desk. It threw her off, it was too casual. Is that how things were done onboard? Saluting as she spoke,"Kasumi Yang, reporting in sir."
"I guarantee that won't be a problem." Kasumi was sure that came off cocky but it was fine,"I have pretty high standards and I expect a lot from the people I work with. I won't let there be any trouble, sir."
"Well, I've got my work cut out." Kasumi was a little worried. That was a lot to take in and she still had to get to know the crew. She shrugged inwardly, keeping her frame tight on the outside.
Not a worry sir. I'll be fine. I'll start at the top and work my way down. I'll keep you informed.."
Her sentence was cut short as they were interrupted. Moving onto the bridge she took over Tactical as motioned and began to get to know the ship. She listened to the conversation and made a few notes.
"20 minutes how considerate. Ensign Yang please have the fighter wing launched and placed in an intercept pattern and get both the Copenhagen and Vanquisher to cover our flanks. Then prep security teams to repel boarders. Zoilip, take auxilary fire control." he paused to look at the Ops board,
"Aye sir," she responded. Issuing the orders to launch the wing,"Fighters launching in five minutes, sir. Copenhagen and Vanquisher are moving into position."
<tag Lin>
Kasumi didn't know the security members so she prayed that when paired up it would work. She looked over the roster, picked those who were on duty first than moved to grab a few who were off duty. Sending the orders through wasn't a problem but she had a feeling there would be when she was done.
"Security teams prepped and ready."

"It didn't happen on a starbase," the Romulan replied tersely, "it happened on a Federation starship. The USS Nevada, to be specific. As for the beverage, it appeared to contain iron, something Lovine is allergic to. The replicator used was the one in Lovine's guest quarters, which were situated right next to mine."
The Romulan was angry, at having to repeat himself time and again. If only he had a recording he could replay, everytime someone questioned him. He hadn't expected Saarok to go this far, and he narrowed his eyes in suspicion. "Am I still a suspect?" he queried. "I drank the same drink, I too fell ill, though differently so than Lovine did, obviously. It is obvious I wasn't meant to consume this beverage. Several people on the Nevada could testify my erratic behaviour. Even Magellan Lin himself, whom I nearly ran over after I left Lovine's quarters. I was quite indisposed when I reached my quarters. The ship's logs should verify that."
He was very, very tired of having to explain this to someone who he had considered one of his best friends. Was he wrong after all then, to consider the illustrious Vulcan his friend? The Romulan was tense, standing protectively beside Lovine's supine form. "She's my friend," he pointed out, "why would I try to kill a friend? I am not you Saarok, I do not engage in subterfuge to reach my goals."

"It seems you are still suffering from the side effects of that beverage Ambassador, for if you rewind my statement in your head you will not find a single word that claims you had anything to do with this matter at hand. However if you feel.... disappointed I am not considering you a suspect... I will attempt to correct this at your request", Saarok said

"Yes, as you can see i have merely questioned what has transpired and how it came to this situation, not to personally attack you or anyone else involved as i am not an investigator whose job is to investigate this. My job here is to merely attempt to ease the situation and assure everyone that our security will make it the top priority to determine the people responsible for this unfortunate event and to see that they will be dealt with accordingly.", Saarok finished

Rewind? The Romulan didn't find the statement remotely funny, though under any other circumstance, he might've laughed. Instead, his expression was grim, his eyes infuriated. "I am a suspect," he answered coldly, "I was merely pointing out what happened, and correcting your reasoning on the location of where it transpired. By all the evidence given, I am a suspect. I was there." He eyed Kek, knowing the ambassador's brother wouldn't hesitate to kill him now. By his own admission, he pretty much confessed to having poisoned her. Yet, it hadn't been his hand that had added the poison. And that tiny bit of information was the key to his innocense. He would have to watch out for Kek, he knew.

The Romulan sighed. "I know you wouldn't just attack me Saarok," he answered humbly, "and you have my apology for my accusations. You are one of the few friends I have. I just wish there was anything I could do for Lovine. She confided in me before, and I consider her a friend. I'd like to believe that she trusted me."

Magellan watched the monitors in earnest as the Tholian cruisers hung ominously outside the counter ticking down.
"I see. Well I guess we don't have many options then"
"Thank you Saarok. I ll meet our guest and bring them to you. Perhaps between us we can calm matters somewhat."
He looked around the Ops room, all eyes on him. "Zoilip your in command. Yang you and a security detail with me."
He motioned for Yang to follow him and left Operations.
"Okay this is going to be tricky, this could just be a ruse to get troopers on the station however, make no aggressive moves unless a) I tell you to or b) they shoot me. Understood?"

"Okay. Equip with phaser rifles, who knows what their encounter suits can handle."

As they entered a turbolift he tapped his comm. =^= Okay Zoilip tell them to dock at Berth A. I ll be waiting for them there. Warn them that whilst we welcome them in peace we will not stand for any aggressive acts. We want to help them find out who poisoned Lovine as much as anyone.=^=
=^= Message Sent=^= Zoilip replied as Magellan exited the lift and stepped out on the dock. In the distance he could see a Tholian shuttle manouvreing and coming down to land.
"This should be interesting" Magellan replied to no one in particular

"Aye sir," she said nodding,"Hopefully they won't shoot you. That'd make me look..uhh..really bad and on my first day." she smirked then straightend up,"Phasers or rifles? I'd prefer the stronger given the situation."
"Okay. Equip with phaser rifles, who knows what their encounter suits can handle."
"Aye sir." she nodded and was glad he'd agreed with her. So far she liked him, which meant she could work with him. After exiting the lift she heard his comment and nodded.,
"Interesting is the perfect word," she left to gather the rifles, preparing herself for any given scenario.

Belkan watched as they drew closer to the base, they had still not received docking commands from the base and they would soon be entering the bases outer shields if thy were raised. Belkan was about to order them to return as the communication array reacted “Minister, we are receiving docking commands, Berth A. We are being warned that whilst they welcome us in peace ... they will not stand for any aggressive acts” Belkan looked at the soldier “make way to the berth they have indicated, but do not respond, i see no reason to do so, send a coded message to the other ships, they are to remain in secure blockade positions until i tell them otherwise” the soldier merely nodded before returning to the consol to send the message and direct them to the berth. Belkan stood and walked to the back where two people who did not belong with the warriors all around them stood, “My lady, i will announce you once i am sure you are safe, doctor, i will call you out before her so that i can ensure that they mean us no harm” Belkan knew he was most likely overstepping his authority but neither seemed to mind the arrangement or did not voice their opinions.
The shuttle gently glided into position and the docking clamps sealed to the hull with a clunk, Belkan watched as the six highest ranking warriors moved to the hatch without any weapons, it was custom that no arrival guards bare any weapons and that the rear guard would give them their weapons back once they were all aboard. Belkan nodded to the officers and watched as they moved into position.
As the door to the main walkway opened the federation security officers became visible to those on the Tholian shuttle, but the Tholian guards were not even slightly changed by their presence, the six officers moved in two lines of three, marching several steps before stopping, then the back two on both lines turned to face inwards while the front officers remained looking defiantly at the security officers. Belkan was watching as best he could while remaining out of sight, by custom he could not reveal himself until the warriors announced him. After several moments of silence it looked as if the federation officer in red was about to speak when the lead warrior spoke loudly “Stand firm before the fire, stand firm against the darkness. I announce to you so you may see, Belkan, Minister of the 4th Tier of the Assembly” with this the remaining warriors looked inwards and waited. Belkan wasted no time walking off the shuttle and though the tunnel the warriors were forming. “Admiral Lin i presume, my name is Belkan, i am a member of the Assembly, the ruling power on Tholia. This is certainly not how i would have liked to have visited this station, but time sadly makes its own path.” Belkan moved to one side slightly so that the officers could once again see down the tunnel of warriors towards the shuttle. “First may i introduce Doctor Farvi, leading medical doctor on Tholia, and Ambassador Lovine’s personal physician” Belkan watched as the figure that was the doctor moved very slowly though the tunnel and looked like he was about to trip as he reached the end, but seemed to recover. Belkan did not allow the federation officers a chance to speak as they seemed to be a little less wary of him now. “And lastly, may i introduce her royal highness, Matriarch of the Desestorcan line, Tutine, Empress of the Tholian Assembly” Belkan lowered his body as did the doctor, albeit slowly and difficultly, and the warriors. The empress moved with a grace in itself mystical as if she did not belong to this world as she reached the small gathering she did not allow Belkan a chance to speak as she spoke first “I thank you for greeting me with such a large honour guard, you have shown your reverence to my position very well. Now show me to Lovine, our journey has been a long one and i wish to rest soon”

Magellan was about as taken aback as it was possible to be. The large fleet of Tholian vessels now became understandable, that and the secrecy. Magellan was unaware of the last time the Empress had left Tholia.
He bowed his head respectfully,
"We are honoured by your presence your highness" he said, wishing he had asked Saarok along, he was much more used to dealing with such high profile dignitarys. He moved quickly to Kasumis side, "Change security this is now hopefully not an defensive matter but a protection issue. Make sure no one finds out the Empress is aboard and increase security at all locations she will be."
TAG Kasumi
"Right this way Empress. I understand Lovines life hangs in the balance you arrived just in time." he led the Empress and her entourage towards a turbolift.
"I hope whilst you are here you will have opportunity to review my proposal for ending this damaging war. On our end we are very nearly ready to begin exploration of the Delta Quadrant. We wish you to be partners along with the Klingons in this project. Think of the number of planets available for colonisation out there."

"Change security this is now hopefully not an defensive matter but a protection issue. Make sure no one finds out the Empress is aboard and increase security at all locations she will be."
"Consider it done," Kasumi said with a nod, politely bowing to the Empress and her party before leaving the room. Once in security she sat down at her desk and pulled up a floor plan. Quickly she organized the teams. A two man patrol outside the Empresses quarters, working alongside her own men and observing their own customs. She also had patrols going up and down the deck.
'Hmm' she thought. She wasn't sure where the Empress was going to be travelling. The bridge for sure, possibly given a tour. Wording it as best she could she requested an itinerary for the Empress from Lin . If he wished to give her a tour he'd have to give Kasumi a chance to make way for the security precautions.
Finishing up she dispatched the new orders to the security teams. Having to cancel a few shifts and add a few more doubled up. She was sure there would be complications. That was why she'd attached a personal message to each crewmember reguarding their silence and the importance of their control over such temperments. She made sure to emphasise a strict punishment reserved for those who were caught breaking the rules.
Grinning she leaned back in her chair and relaxed for a moment. She had to oversee the teams, check the Empresses quarters herself, make sure everything was prepared if she wished to eat...so much to do..and she still barely knew the station.

Fed up with all the accusations back and forth, Tedak decided to turn his fury elsewhere. It was no good to turn your fury on possibly your only ally and friend anyway, and while now he practically could strangle the Vulcan, Saarok was still the closest friend he had. Turning his back on the Vulcan, he glared at Kek, before noticing that there was precious little security in the medical bay.
Knowing that T'Val and Stuart wouldn't really appreciate their presence, it was still vital that Lovine was protected at all cost, and protected beyond the coccoon that she was encased in. Truth to be told, the Romulan feared for Lovine's life. Not for his own, if the Tholians believed him guilty of attempted murder, his life was forfeit already. He prayed that Lovine would survive, so that they could share more secrets, and more friendly unguarded moments in the future.
His sharp hearing picked up a murmur among the nurses, and he learned that a new security chief might have been looking for him. Whether that was true, remained to be seen of course, as rumours did spread fast, and they never stayed true to the original information. Without saying another word, he marched out of the medical bay and stalked into the nearest turbolift. "Security office," he snapped impatiently, and felt the car come into motion.
At the designated deck, he got off and headed for the security chief's office, presuming he'd find her there. He was in no mood for Lily's usually brightly spirited moods. "Miss Kasumi? I am Ambassador Tedak, I was with Lovine before she collapsed. I assume you have been looking for me? I have already given my statement aboard the Nevada, but I am quite happy to answer any questions you may have. Also, while I am here, I find the lack of security in sickbay worrying. There are precious little guards to protect Ambassador Lovine, and her aide Kek. What if the murderer tries again? I demand that you put more security in sickbay! Also, investigating Ambassador s'Khellian may be a good idea, I learned he has dealings with the Tholians."

"Say please..."she said, her head tilting up to meet his eyes,"Ambassador...I am not sure what kind of people you're used to dealing with but..bursting into my office and demanding isnt a way of getting what you want. As an Ambassador I would expect your manners to be a little higher than those of an average human toddler. "
Kasumi leaned back in her chair, crossed her arms in an obviously defiant show and offered him a seat,"Now....security can be fixed in that instance. I'm new onboard. Whatever security there is was set up by the last person is what you saw... but at your request, and perhaps a little less attitude I will happily modify it make you smile. "

Eyes burning with reigned in fury, Tedak took the offered seat in utter silence. The insult still rang clear in his mind, but he was determined not to respond to it. Stone-faced, he listened to her, nodding where appropriate. He took a few deep breaths as he controlled his anger, focusing on the security chief's words.
The Romulan forced himself to smile. "Thank you ensign," he replied politely, but pleasantly, "that would be most appreciated. You see, I am most concerned for Lovine, whom I consider to be one of the very few friends I have. I'm sure Admiral Lin can confirm that often I have the Federation's best interest at heart, especially when it may also benefit my own people. Ambassador s'Khellian, I'm ashamed to admit, I do not trust. He is my superior, but he keeps secrets."
He crossed his arms over his chest, as Nut curled up in his lap, snoring soundly. The small firelizard had just winged in in silence and had settled down in the Romulan's lap. "In regards to your response to me," he continued icily, deciding not to let the insult slide after all, "be careful on how you address a diplomat. By comparing my intelligence to that of a toddler, you have issued a grave insult. Were I anyone else, you would be lying dead at my feet now. However, as I am who I am, you are quite fortunate that I am not a violent man by nature. Now, if you do not have any questions in regards to Lovine's poisoning, I shall leave now. Do please remember that I offered the opportunity to be questioned willingly. I have nothing to hide."

Kasumi shrugged,"Lucky me I guess but I have little use for diplomats who demand things before even having a full grasp of the situation."she changed the subject,"Now, in regards to Lovine.. I'll triple the security and if in future you see anything else needing to be changed send me a message and it will be done. And I believe we are done here, unless you have more to add. At this time, I don't have any questions for you, if i do I'll find you and ask them."
Kasumi stood, rising from her chair slowly in a move to lean gently over her desk,"However, Ambassador, don't come into my office and insult me. I don't stand for it...and unlucky for you, I am a violent person..so you are very fortunate you're still sitting there."

"I shall remember that ensign," the Romulan replied icily, rising to his feet. He offered her a half-bow, before straightening again. "Thank you for your time ma'am, and thank you for increasing security on Lovine. I truly do fear for her safety." He paused, placing the still sleeping brown flying creature on his shoulder. Reflexively, Nut wrapped his tail lightly around the ambassador's throat for balance, digging his claws into his tunic. "If you would excuse me? My class is probably waiting for me."
Tedak smiled, giving the most pleasant time he could muster at the time. "I'm sure you heard about the El-Aurian issue not too long ago. I am taking care of the teaching of a few of their children, and I'm considering applying to become a legal warden to a few younger ones. Perhaps you would consider giving a lecture about safety on a starbase at some point?"
He waited politely for her response, then turned on his heel and left the security office. However, instead of checking to see whether indeed he had a class, he headed straight back down to the infirmary. He couldn't tell whether there was any difference in Lovine's condition, so he simply re-claimed the seat he had occupied before, and took to studying her prone form in silence. Eventually, his exhaustion caught up with him and he nodded off, resting his head on his arm, on the edge of Lovine's bed.
