Location: Shuttlecraft Greenwich (approaching to USS El'Salvador)
"We have permission to landing" says the pilot with a novice voice..
"Easy Ensign, doný worry, we are in time" Max nodded the pilot nervous voice, he know that this was not the first time that the pilot land a shuttlecraft, he only wants to calm down the Ensign.
"Yes, sir!"
They have a perfect and comfortable landing in the El'sal's shuttlebay. Then, Max towards to the turbolift for report in the bridge.
Location: USS El'Salvador
"Computer, Deck 1, Bridge"
When the turbolift doors open, Max felt a good sensation, he was waiting this moment for a long time. All the officers in the bridge look the Commander entry.
"Greetings. I'm Commander Richards, your new Chief Ops. Who is in charged?"

She smiled after the comm. Link to the prison facility closed, Captain Savot had understood her message as cryptic as it was, his own message hidden in between his words, was that if things got ugly she was to first make sure the crew were safe no matter the risk to him.
She thought over that for a minute, her mind running through the possibilities that could occur on the planet, there was too many to anticipate, she shook her head quickly before she turned to the view screen again and looked at the image of the planet.
Stacey was really now beginning to feel the strain of the situation her head was beginning to pound with a headache.
A few seconds later the Science officer at the science Station said. “Commander… Commander Hope is requesting permission to bring aboard a Democratic General.”
Stacey thought that over for a moment weighing the significant pro’s and con’s eventually deciding. “Okay but I want security to follow him at all times and non essential areas off limits.”
She turned as she heard the turbolift door open and a Commander walk in she assumed he was from the shuttle that had requested permission to come aboard, a good bit of timing considering they had recently damaged three shuttles in a crash.
He looked around for a moment then asked. "Greetings. I'm Commander Richards, your new Chief Ops. Who is in charged?"
Stacey took a step forward and said. “I am.. Commander Stacey Jackson.. First Officer.. Captain Savot is currently on the surface… Welcome aboard.. I regret to tell you we don’t have time for you to get settled in just yet we are going to need you to get right to work… Take your station and begin scans of the surface.. any troop movement of significance and I want to know.”
***Planets Surface***
The General thought for what seemed like a long moment before saying. “There is no need to refer to me as lord.. you may not be aware but calling someone from my government that is a heavy insult… General will be fine…. And yes I will accompany you back to your ship however only in the spirit of an observer I am not able to negotiate or make decisions for my government.”
He took a step back from the Romulan woman she conversed with some of her staff, he still didn’t completely trust her but if she was any indication of the rest of her crew he wouldn’t be in any danger.
He looked around as the federation crew began to pack up their equipment, he had no idea what most if it did, as it all looked well more advanced than anything his panet had produced.. not surprising as scientific equipment had taken a back seat to war materials decades ago.
***Planets surface.. Scientist’s home***
He made it back to his house he watched his back the whole way, he noticed the guard following him and just before he entered his house he felt an odd yet very sharp pain in his back. He turned franticly but noticed the guard was still on the other side of the street. He shrugged his shoulders and went inside.
Not five minutes later as he was feeling more than a little drowsy his door opened and in came the rather large man he had spoken to earlier, he was whisked away before he could say anything.
Several seconds later.. we walked past the body of the guard but was assured by the Klingon he was alive. And to his shock seconds later the street vanished to be replaced with a blue and grey room with flashing lights, this on it’s own was shocking enough but he had noticed the lights were unusually bright. He assumed it was just the way they were supposed to be. But as he was led out of the room he collapsed, his heart stopped dead and his brain suffering an a massive stroke.. the result of poison.

He was a little shock when the man just collapsed out of the blue, it just a secound for him to get over his shock and check his vitals. He wasn't breathing he tapped his combadge " 2 to beam directly to sick bay medical emergency" a moment later he was back in sick bay it was full of wounded and very busy. Raising his voice I need a dotor and I need one now he just collapsed and his not breathing.
While he waited for a response he saw the other person he transported aboard on a bio bed. He had no proof yet but his gut was telling him he had something to do with this or at least knew who might. Tapping his combadge again he ordered to marines to report to sick bay and and watch the individual who was still knocked out.
He was getting angery he wasn't looking forward to explaing what happened to Commander Hope her orders were quite clear keep them alive and safe. Oh this is not going to sit well with her at all.
While he waited for the out come of the exam he had a feeling it was going to be good, hopefully he had gotten the man to sick bay in time. He didn't believe in gods but if there was one up there he hoped he would do him a favor and keep this one a live. The captains life depended what this person knew.

Medical emergency? Firestorm cartwheeled around mid-leap and bounded back to sickbay on all fours, his med-kit left behind in the cargobay. Any nurse there could wield it, he reasoned, he wouldn't need it while working in the main medical bay. Upon arrival, one of the junior nurses directed him to a biobed which was occupied by the prone form of a Meran male, approximately fifty standard years old.
The Sivaoan doctor leaned over him, while the bed hummed to life. Carefully, with his right paw, he lifted the unconscious man's eyelids, examining the response of his eyes. Bright green eyes, Firestorm noted, upon closer examination. Carefully, he straightened the patient onto the bed and activated the medical diagnostic unit.
"Colonel, alert security!" the feline hissed, as he continued his examination, "did you see anything suspect when you arrived? This man has been poisoned! He's alive, and I can keep him alive but that's the end of it. There's no known antidote for this poison."
With great care he brushed the scientist's dark matted hair from his face, to examine his features more closely. "There are no marks on his face, and he didn't ingest it," he reported, after examining his teeth, tongue and back of his mouth. Slowly he twisted the head sideways, making sure so not to obstruct the patient's breathing - which was now an action performed by a respirator. "A dart!"
Firestorm removed the object from the doctor's neck and handed it to the Klingon marine. "Take this to security as well, be careful, it's poisoned. Don't touch the tip under any circumstance, do you understand colonel?"
Sighing, the furred doctor continued his examination, and made sure that afterwards the patient was as comfortable as possible. "Sickbay to bridge. My patient is comfortable but I don't know how long I can keep him alive. Earlier, it seemed paramount that he speak with us, but he was barred access to us. I believe someone tried to kill him because he knows something. He's alive, but by virtue of full lifesupport only. Has Captain Savot been returned to us yet? Perhaps he can get into my patient's thoughts and retrieve the vital knowledge?"
It was, of course, somewhat unethical, but the needs of the many clearly outweighed the needs of the one, or even the morals of the one, such as himself. "And if he objects, perhaps another telepath?"

S'reena stepped off the transporter pad, nearly colliding with Stacey, who had been waiting for them. The Romulan gestured towards the Meran officer, wanting him to step off the pad. She frowned as the man appeared terrified, but didn't want to humiliate him by calling to him. Instead, she turned to Jackson.
"Commander, this is General Mi'ger. Apparently, addressing him as 'my lord' is an insult in his culture, please assure him that such was never my attention, as in Human culture it is a sign of respect?"
She stepped away from the pad, allowing the general passage. "Commander, we have found traces of an explosive readily used by the Romulans. They have common manufacture, and seem to be the only frequent users due to it's capability of mass destruction and it's greater yield." She held out the fragment she was holding. "I have brought evidence for you to examine more closely, though my team has gathered all they need in the cargoholds."
The Romulan listened as footsteps approached and, not recognising the footfall, turned to listen more closely. Auric didn't respond, so it must be someone she'd seen before. At that time, the call from Dr Firestorm came over the intercom.
"That's unethical!" a male voice echoed through the transporterroom. The words were well-articulated, that of a learned man. "You can't just force a mindmeld on someone, especially not if they cannot give or deny their consent!"
Doctor Taita Chenzira, one of the ship's counselors, halted just beside S'reena and Stacey, eying the general nervously. Though a lieutenant commander, Chenzira was very new to the field of counseling, having only recently finished his doctorate studies, after spending years teaching history at Starfleet Academy, thereby earning his rank.
S'reena nodded. "I'm inclined to agree commander, however I'll leave you two to argue upon it, since the captain isn't here to give his views on the matter. However, though I don't claime to know him well enough, I doubt Captain Savot will agree with the suggestion. It is indeed unethical, not to mention very taxing and very dangerous." She nodded towards Stacey, then held out her arm towards the general. "Come with me general, I will give you the grand tour of the El-Salvador."
Taita glared after the retreating Romulan. He hated Romulans, and he couldn't believe that one was ever allowed to serve on this vessel. Hazel eyes sparkling furiously, the counselor glared at the first officer. "Prohibit the mind meld," he told her, ít's an invasion of the patient's privacy, whether he may hold the key to this all or not. You can't violate someone on the belief that doing so may save lives! It is against everything we, the Federation, stand for!"
The Egyptian scholar looked infuriated, but before Stacey could respond, he stormed out of the transporterroom. "I'll hold you responsible if you consent!" he shouted over his shoulder, "I won't stand for it!"

Standing in the Transporter room Stacey watched as to blue shimmers of light began to form the shape of bodies seconds later Hope, and a Meran were both standing in front of her, S’reena stepped off and almost bumped into Stacey if not for her moving backwards it would have been a little embarrassing for them. S’reena introduced Stacey to the General who in turn looked around almost in awe and fear.
Stepping forward Stacey nodded her head and said. “General I am sure Commander Hope meant no offence by the use of that title on earth it is a sign of respect… Welcome aboard as a matter of precaution you will be escorted by two of our security officers at all times.. I am sure you can understand.”
General Mi’ger nodded his head and replied. “Of Course Commander… I hope together we can find out what caused the tragic loss of life.”
The comm. Channel opened having been transferred from the bridge to Stacey’s current location.. Doctor Firestorm giving an update on the scientist brought aboard by Colonel Kratak… Firestorm brought up the option of a mind meld to gain the information locked in his mind.. this also had occurred to Stacey at the same time. This topic of course led to the arrival of Counsellor Chenziri.
He was extremely agitated voicing his opposition to such a mind meld rather harshly, before Stacey could tell him she would keep his objection in mind, Commander Hope spoke up and agreed with him, voicing her belief that Savot would likely deny such a move. She then excused herself and proceeded to take the General on a tour of the ship leaving only the Counsellor her and the transporter chief in the room. The Counsellor didn’t let Stacey speak instead he continued to yell.
Stacey turned to the Chief and shrugged her shoulders as she said. “Don’t apply for command… it’s a headache.” She walked out in pursuit of the Counsellor as the transport chief tried his best to hide his grin.
Stacey caught up with the Counsellor and said rather harshly. “Stop right there mister.” She pointed to the closest room which happened to be a small science lab, entering the room she looked at the three crewmen and said. “Clear the room.”
After the two were alone she turned to him and too a deep breath. “First Counsellor.. let me say I appreciate your objections I have yet to make up my mind but your views will be taken into consideration… However on this ship there is a chain of command I will not be spoken to like that by anyone… You will show me the respect my rank and position deserve.”
She took another deep breath before she spoke again. “Now I am aware that if this procedure is taken it will be on shaky moral ground.. however with the captain in his current situation the decision is mine and mine alone I will take the consequences whatever they may be.. and believe me whether you will stand for it or not will be the least of my concerns.. Now if you have anything else to add I am happy to listen but finish your sentence with Ma’am instead of a threat.”

Listening to what the cat like doctor was saying his mind started to wrap it self around it. When the doctor gave him the dart with the warning it was poisonness, he started thinking. The fact the man he promised to protect was a live but would never function normally didn't sit well with him.
He listened at the idea of a mind meld there would be concerns about the issue of invadeing somebody mind with out permission. Then again if he would never beable to give it again and the only reason he was alive was because of life support, that combined with no known cure presented a loop hole. He for once was thankful he was not in command anymore it was a fine line between ethics and saving lives.
" Thank you doctor I will be sure not to accidently stab my self or anybody else with it." He looked over at other person he brought aboard and an idea came to him but one he would need permission for. " Thank you again doctor as to the mind meld its option but not one that I could give permission for. You are opening a can of worms with that while I agree it could work I think you would have to prove that there is know hope for him, in order to for go the vilotaing of rights issue. I would say your work is cut out for you on that matter"
Turning to leave with the dart in hand he looked over at his marines" I want him searched for weapons and anything else you can find. Change his clothes to hospital ward rob and scan ever inch of his belongs report what you find"
Walking out of the sickbay he asked the computer where Commander Jackson was, getting her location he headed to see her. He arrived outside a science lab in time to see another officer leave who look like somebody just smacked in the face
enter he saw commander Jackson she seemed a little annoyed but then again command had way of doing that. " Commander Jackson I just came from sick bay where our two guest are resting in stable condition I believe. My marines are searching the other person who was following the sciencetist for weapson now. It would appear a dart dipped in a highly toxic posion was used, a posion with no known cure. I also listened to the doctors idea of a mind meld. I will be honest Commander I don't eveny your postion on that matter its a tough call to make. While the individual in question might never wake up to give permission its still a tricky choice"
" With that being said I would like to offer a possible alternative, I would need some latitude on the matter. I have the dart with your permision I would like to replicate another looking just like it. Then wake the person who was following the sciencetist and start questioning him to see what he knows. The latitude I ask for is being a little more forceful and threating. While the threats would be empty of course I would work to make them believeable. I can be pretty imtimidating when the need calls for it. I would also ask the Commander Hope be present to assist with the questioning. If the individual did shoot the dart then he knows the posion is active my loosen a tounge if he thinks he might get a dose of it himself" <Tag Jackson>

<Will back post any response to the Counsellor if needed>
She watched the Counsellor leave and let out a deep breath, the strain was getting to her as she imagined it was for other people as well. She wasn’t given much of a break before Colonel Kratak entered the room.
After a brief run down about the people in Sickbay he gave her another rather unsavoury thought to think about, let him threaten and scare the Meran guard into revealing information. Whether it was the stress or just the fact she was tired but she burst out laughing. “This is one big joke right… forced mind melds… threatening people with death… What did all you guys get together and make a plan to get me fired… or go insane.”
She took another deep breath this time looking more deserving of the situation. “I appreciate the idea Colonel and I will do almost anything to get Captain Savot back in one piece… however I would like him to return to the Federation Starship he left… not a ship of pirates… I doubt the guard would reveal anything anyway… would you ever reveal anything even under the threat of death?... I know I wouldn’t if it meant betraying the federation… and we can assume he is as loyal to his government as we are to Starfleet…. Finnish the search for weapons then have him beamed back down to where we found him… I really don’t want to be accused of holding hostage right now.”
She rubbed her forehead for a moment before she looked to the floor and caught a glimpse of the red uniform she wore.. it didn’t help her mood only reminded her how much rested on the decisions she made.. more so now that Savot was unable to make any… She really wanted to do what he would do if the roles were reversed but she couldn’t.. she would rather take the lecture and disappointment from him when he got back than.. perform a funeral for him. It was in that moment she made up her mind.
Looking at Kratak a moment she tapped her comm. Badge. “Jackson to sickbay… prepare the scientist for a mind meld.. and go through the ships medical files find me a particularly gifted Vulcan obviously other than Savot.”
<tag Sickbay>
She looked to Kratak and said. “Have extra security in sickbay essential personnel only to go in until after the meld… and Colonel, Counsellor Chenziri… not to be allowed in.. I could do without him shouting the paint off of the walls when he finds out.”
<Tag Kratak>
She left the science lab and walked rather briskly towards the turbolift, in part because she didn’t want to hear anyone else’s opinion on the matter now her mind was made up.
She made it to the bridge thankfully without further interruption spotting Andrus she walked over to him and with a moment of inspiration she asked. “I want you to clear the lounge on deck seven of everything except a table and eight chairs… I am also going to want a force field put in place around that room on a moments notice.”

“Stop right there mister.” She pointed to the closest room which happened to be a small science lab, entering the room she looked at the three crewmen and said. “Clear the room.”
Taita froze in his tracks, a look of sheer annoyance crossing his hansome features as he turned. He had expected her to come after him, had even expected to be bodily dragged off somewhere. He had to commend her on her restraint. Understanding her meaning, Taita followed the first officer into the small lab, waiting in silence as she dismissed the present crewmen. He was grinding his teeth in anger, biting back any retort he was going to give her then and there. Instead, he simply waited.
“First Counsellor.. let me say I appreciate your objections I have yet to make up my mind but your views will be taken into consideration… However on this ship there is a chain of command I will not be spoken to like that by anyone… You will show me the respect my rank and position deserve.”
"Respect is earned," Taita almost retorted angrily, but he bit back the words. His eyes flashed as he listened, while indignantly folding his arms across his chest, waiting for Stacey to continue.
"Oh you'll bear the consequences all right," Taita retorted, his fingers digging into his own arms to restrain himself. His voice was level, though edged. "I'm lodging an official complaint if you touch that patient. It is immoral, and against the very laws of the Federation. To perform a mind meld is to breach that person's most sacred possession, namely his secrets and his privacy." He deliberately waited a few seconds before obliging by adding 'ma'am' to his statement.
Not waiting for dismissal, the counselor turned on his heels and walked out. He never was one to listen to a superior officer though he always had drilled obedience into his students. His brilliance made him feel superior, but not infallible. He knew that there would be consequences if he tread too far, and he was quite careful not to cross that one line that would tip him over. "Computer, locate Lieutenant James Fire." He had learned that the young officer had suffered a bad crash on the planet, and would benefit from a counseling session. Taita was certain such things were mandatory. Meaning, he realised with a scowl, that he would have to talk to the Romulan and the Klingon as well. He shook his head, determined to postpone doing that for as long as was possible. He loathed Romulans, and he distrusted Klingons.
=^=Lieutenant Fire is in his quarters =^= The computer continued to give specific details on the location of said quarters.
Taita Chenzira made his wait to the pilot's quarters. By the time he got there, he had schooled his features into a pleasant expression, emitting a friendly smile. "Lieutenant Fire, I am Lieutenant Commander Taita Chenzira, one of the ship's counselors. You may address me as Taita, while I am in function as counselor. I prefer to be addressed by my first name, I'm sure that you understand. Please let rank not cause a rift, while we talk." He let his arms drop to his side, inclining his head. "May I come in lieutenant? I thought perhaps you'd like to talk about your experience on Meran, after you crashed. I learned you lost a few people, how are you dealing with the loss?"

Zakryn Athgar gave a contented sigh after hours of visually inspecting all of the El Salvador's weaponry, both ship-grade and personal. The Gorn Chief's sigh probably sounded more like a dragon with a sore throat to those humans within earshot however. He tapped his commbadge and checked in with his superior.
=^=Athgar to Andrus. Sir, we've visually accounted for all the weaponry in the El Salvador's arsssenal. Still waiting on some of the results from the replicators, but in my opinion, even if the bomb does turn out to be Federation in origin... it definitely didn't come from thisss ship boss. That's at least one piece of good news you can give Commander Jackssson. Will keep you informed as to the replicator logs, Athgar out.=^=

Lieutenant James Fire lay quietly staring up towards the cieling in his quarters he had went to sickbay and checked on Belanna she was doing better now that they had fixed her legs. The nurse said she would be able to return to duty, but James had told her to take some time off Ensign Marcus also would make a full recovery. He had finished typing out his request on the PADD that rested in his hand slung above his head. He knew that eventually Captain Savot would be back on board once again soon hopefully so that he could place his request in.
In the process of simply laying there thinking quietly to himself he would hear his door chime. He raised himself and straightened his uniform he hadn't even changed into civilian clothes. He walked over to the door and pressed a button so that the locks would unlatch and the door would swoosh open.
James inclined his head, a counselor he sighed heavily with relief he had thought it was another nurse coming to tell him that Ensign Marcus' condition had suddenly worsened. He already was trying to put together some sort of letter for each of the families to those fallen in the crash. They were great officers and senior chief was a great NCO, but that perhaps was not the core of the problem. "Come in please." He said and stepping to the side to allow entry into his quarters.
After the Commander had stepped inside he turned facing him a false smile decorating his features. The door would close once more, "They were fine officers and Senior Chief was a fine NCO and I do regret that they were lost, but doesn't that come with the job?"
He sighed once more pulling the chair in front of his desk out so that the Commander could sit if he chose to then James walked over and sat down on his mattress. "I mean we all know the risks when we come into Starfleet they paid the ultimate price I barely managed to get the other two to safety, but I did manage to do just that thanks to my training by the same job that could kill me or any one of us." His tone was even, James was tired that was obvious, but he tried hard not to let it show.

"They were fine officers and Senior Chief was a fine NCO and I do regret that they were lost, but doesn't that come with the job?"
"A loss of life never comes with the job ensign," the counselor replied amiably, waiting patiently for the navigator to say more. It was obvious, even to his untrained eye, that the young man wanted to say more. "Please, take your time ensign," he suggested patiently." He sat down quietly, when a seat was offered, folding his fingers into his lap.
"I mean we all know the risks when we come into Starfleet they paid the ultimate price I barely managed to get the other two to safety, but I did manage to do just that thanks to my training by the same job that could kill me or any one of us."
"One can do no more than one's best, Mr Fire," Taita acknowledged, "and even though it possibly nearly cost you your own life, you did save two of your team. Would you have done anything differently, if you had to do this again?"
Taita tried to envision the situation for himself, knowing he'd probably never be in such a situation. Being a counselor was probably the safest position to have, as one rarely left the ship to begin with. Even more so, since he wasn't the senior counselor. "How does it make you feel, having saved two of four?" he asked, knowing there was little tact in his question. But how else would they have him ask it?"
He tried to make eyecontact with the ensign. "Ensign, please look up at me," he requested gently. "This question may be a little harsh, but it may also help you in your own quests. The two people that died, of what species were they? And the ones you did save, of what species were they? Did that, unconsciously, have any bearing on your ability to save them? Or not save them?"

He looked at Commander Jackson he respected her decision on his plan. He may have disagreed but at least she heard him out. The problem he was having was her course of action with the mind meld. He didn't feel comfortable with that decision to enter someone's mind with out permission. It was not a easy choice for commander Jackson to make and he knew she was stuck.
" Commander with all due respect to your rank and postion I must object to this course of action. You are going against federation law and star fleet regulations" He kept his voice calm and even he was going to handle like the counselor did " Commander I request to be relieved of duty because I can't complie with this order, I also request you note my objection in your log. I will obey any lawful order you give but this is not a lawful order. Futher more I do believe you might find I'm not the only one who will object to this course of action."
" Commander I respect you and the postion you are in, I will not interfer with your course of action but I respectfully ask you give this order to someone else. I can't follow through on it there is no honor in what you are asking me to do."
" I will ask Commander Hope to assume my duties if you wish to have me releaved Commander. Futher more I do believe in my heart that I could get the prisoner to talk. I respecfully ask for you to reconsider my plan, there are many way's get someone to talk and part of my plan did involve Commander Hope. It there is a romulan influence I could get Commander Hope to play that part if I asked her" he paused
" I await your decision Commander but as I said before I can't follow this order. I'm not picking and choosing Commander by any means but I believe this course of action if wrong and must at least inform you of that"<Tag Jackson>

(Backpost for the sake of Krataks response)
She stood in silence for a moment as she compiled in her head her response, he spoke to her with respect and for that she was at least happy with.
“Colonel… I will add to my log your opposition to my decision… as for your request to be relieved of duty that is denied… I will not let you sit in your quarters when the going gets tough…My orders regarding the mind meld while on moral grey ground is most certainly not against federation law it has in the past been done when the situation warrants like now. Any refusal to comply with my orders will carry with it the consequences that come with such actions.”
She paused for a moment taking a breath and rubbing her eyes she leaned against the wall as she thought over things more.
“Your plan… I can’t see the benefit of it..,, I am sure that these people are as loyal to their beliefs as we are to ours and would choose death over betrayal especially since he is a soldier it is part of his training his upbringing.. Now the Counsellor has told me he will be filling an official complaint to Starfleet about my orders. If you wish you may add your name to the complaint as is your right as an officer and I won’t do anything to stand in the way of that letter getting to Starfleet, hell if he wants I will deliver it myself. But I expect you to carry out my orders with regards to keeping non essential personnel out of sickbay.”
She kept her tone of voice civil but at the same time let it carry the authority she felt needed. She went to leave but turned around.
“Please don’t make me have to punish you for disobeying orders, but if you force me too I most certianly will.”

(Sorry for the double post but wanted to get this done before more crew start to revolt)
She stood in the captain’s ready room for longer than she had intended, she couldn’t help but feel that somehow she was making the wrong choice. Two crewmembers had already expressed such strong opposition to the meld that she could not help but think that perhaps she hadn’t thought it over enough. At the same time she knew time was short it wasn’t something she had the luxury of being able to take a massive amount of time agonising over.
She knew all to well the importance of the privacy of someone’s mind, it was the most intimate thing someone could violate, she had given lectures to cadets a thousand times about the ethics involved with Vulcan and Betazoid abilities to enter someone’s mind. But just like it was now it was a moral grey area then, it wasn’t like she was doing this for frivolous reasons, she didn’t want information as mundane as his recipe for cookies she wanted information that could save lives.
The words of Kratak rung in her mind more crew would no doubt react badly, but could she be held hostage to the whims of the crew? When was it important to bend to their will and where does the leader draw the line in the sand? These questions danced around in her mind for longer than she wanted. Then the other question was she thinking too much like a Counsellor and not enough as a First Officer, a First Officer who effectively was acting captain.
Stacey spun around quickly when she heard the door chime sound, taking a deep breath she said. “Enter.”
The door opened to reveal a rather young looking Vulcan male wearing a gold duty uniform, she nodded at him as she said. “Please come in Lieutenant.”
Tralek nodded slightly as he took a step inside before he came to a stop in front of Commander Jackson. “You wished to speak to me Commander?”
She nodded and motioned towards the couch under he window, “Please sit down Lieutenant.” She followed him over and sat down a small distance from him on the same couch.
She looked up and took another breath before she said. “According to you personnel file… you have studied the art of mind melds to some degree.”
He raised an eyebrow and arched his shoulders up slightly. “Correct Commander,, I had the opportunity to study with a master.. May I assume this is about the scientist in sickbay Commander?”
Stacey placed her hands on her knees before she replied. “Yes.. I believe he holds important information we need… information that could save lives… Captain Savot included.. Doctors inform me he won’t wake up we have no other way to gain the information.. I won’t order you to perform the mind meld but I hope you would see the logic in helping me,”
He thought for a few moments before arching his head slightly and responding with. “I will perform the meld commander.. the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few or the one.”
Stacey stood up and while she was relieved it was easy to enlist his help she didn’t smile she merely nodded and said. “Very good Sickbay has prepared the scientist… I want to get this over with as quickly as possible.”
He stood and nodded his head he followed Jackson out and through the bridge into the turbolift. The ride was silent as no doubt he didn’t see the need to engage in small tal and she was too busy thinking about things to talk.
The turbolift stopped and Stacey and Tralek stepped out onto the same deck as sickbay, as they walked towards sickbay a few people offered looks of either disdain or understanding. Jackson had no doubt people had been debating her decision all over the ship and it seemed there was too very distinct groups of people those who agreed and those who disagreed. The looks didn’t bother Stacey and she knew they would not even affect Tralek so she was at least grateful for that.
They reached sickbay doors and as Jackson had ordered to Marines guarded the door, they stepped aside when they saw her and let her pass with the Vulcan Lieutenant. Stacey turned and looked at Kratak and said. “sickbay stays sealed until we come back out..”
<Tag Kratak>
entering sickbay that had been all but emptied of people the injured being treated in the cargo bay, Stacey spotted the doctor and asked.
“Is the scientist prepared doctor?”

Andrus was working over his console when Stacy jacskon approache dhim and asked "She made it to the bridge thankfully without further interruption spotting Andrus she walked over to him and with a moment of inspiration she asked. “I want you to clear the lounge on deck seven of everything except a table and eight chairs… I am also going to want a force field put in place around that room on a moments notice.”
Startled, Andruus turned and faced the FIrst Officer and replied N"ot a problem Commander"
Andrus quickly scheduled the Commander's request.
"The room is set commander - I have it coded to repsond only to your voice command " he added.

Andrusa was worried about the weapons inventory - hopefully his Gorn Chief would come up with solid results. Almost on cue he heard "=^=Athgar to Andrus. Will keep you informed as to the replicator logs, Athgar out.=^=
Andrus's brow scunche din worry and confusion. Where did the bomb come from? That puzzled Andrus and he didn't like puzzles!
Andrus tappe dhis badge and said =^+ Cmdr Jackson - Lt (jg) Andrus here. My chief reports that the bomb did not come from this ship. I thought you should know - Andrus out =^=

The time arrived for the prisoner's next meal, which Savot accepted but ate only a small bite of the vegetables he was offered washing it down with a single swallow of water. The vulcan captain was not paranoid by any means, but with the growing possibility of Romulan involvement looming he felt caution was prudent. If they were involved, Romulan forces would have needed either internal cooperation or extremely detailed reconnaissance in order to place the bomb where it had been.
In either case, they would likely soon be aware if they weren't already that the Starfleet captain had been taken into custody and Romulan sensors would have little difficulty distinguishing vulcan biosigns from the Meran natives. Upon doing so, any action they opted to take against Savot would have to be done discreetly, via poison or similar medium, to avoid having their presence detected. If there were Romulans present who were rational in any sense they knew if they were discovered that would give the Federation much wider authority to investigate their manipulation of the Merans, but so long as the Romulans were undetected they could pull the strings from backstage which seemed to be the preferred method of this particular band.
Savot had sampled small amounts of the food and water to observe his bodily reactions and hypothesize as to whether any poison had been present. The downside of poisoning food or drink was that to ensure every part of the item contained poison it had to be spread out over the entire volume of nourishment. As such, all but the most specialized of poisons would require the intended victim to eat or drink the entire offering in order for it to be fatal. As he monitored his internal physiology the vulcan captain began running hypothetical tactical scenarios pitting the El Salvador against likely Romulan ship configurations.
As he thought of the ship, an almost amusing notion came to him. If he were killed or permanently detained here the El Salvador herself would be able to continue functioning with a new captain appointed, so he was not personally essential to the vessel's purpose, nor was his position one that could not be filled by another officer of equal qualification. No, it seemed that one thing in particular was the primary requisite for his safe return. Another officer could replace him as commanding officer... but no other being in the universe was capable of fulfilling the promise he'd made to young Yarna Hope that he would join her in recreation when his duties permitted.

"One can do no more than one's best, Mr Fire," Taita acknowledged, "and even though it possibly nearly cost you your own life, you did save two of your team. Would you have done anything differently, if you had to do this again?"
James looked at the officer sharply then turned away for a brief second looking at his feet then towards the ceiling. "Yes I would have I would have been there to save Ri...." He stopped and took a long deep breath. "No...." He whispered under his breath and yet loud enough for the commander to hear his words.
He looked at the man, "I saved two out of five actually to be honest." He then looked away again towards nothing in particular, "I am glad that I saved Belanna...I mean Lieutenant Kelley and I am glad that I saved Ensign Marcus. But, it is bitter sweet as I did not save them all."
He ignored his rank being given wrong, and looked into the question. "A vulcan, a Bajoran, the rest of us were human. And, no species did not have anything to do with my ability to saved them. Two of them incenerated on impact..." He stopped looking down once more he had witnessed that shuttle fall from the sky and heard their words in his head. Yet he heard Riley's words in his head as well. That was almost how it happened to his best friend three months ago...

He was standing outside sick bay when Commander Jackson apporached with a vulcan officer he hadn't met before. He orders were quite clear and he was having a hard time obeying them.
"Understood Commander again I voice my concern that this is unethical but I will comply with your orders Commander. I just hope you get the answers you are after because if not your going to have a hard time living with your decision" <Tag Jackson>
After she entered he tapped his combadge he needed some one to help him live with the orders he was given. " Commander Hope I'm not sure if you are aware but Commander Jackson just entered sickbay with a Vulcan officer. I have voice my concerns but was over ruled. Commander for the first time in my life I"m finding quite hard to obey the orders I have been given. Any words of advice right now would be most welcomed" <Tag Hope>

Taita Chenzira "A vulcan, a Bajoran, the rest of us were human. And, no species did not have anything to do with my ability to saved them. Two of them incenerated on impact..."
"But you assigned them together on that shuttle," the counselor pressed, unrelenting, "could you have done anything about redirecting the shuttle?" He felt more like an interrogator than a counselor, but he knew that somehow, answering these questions would make a troubled person see whether he truly had any fault, or whether he was just prolonging his own suffering by allowing to feel guilt. "You didn't answer my prior question. How does it make you feel, to have lost two people during the crash. Do you have any feelings in regards to having lost two shuttles, to begin with?"
Taita reached out, taking the young man's wrist tighting in his grip. "Look at me lieutenant," he insisted, this time taking note of the man's rank, "no time to feel self-pity. I am here to help you evaluate the situation and acquit yourself of any blame you might feel. Are you to blame for the crash? Answer me lieutenant, do you feel you are to blame for the loss of their lives? A Vulcan and a Bajoran you said. Three Humans survived. Do you feel it is coincidence? A third party involved in perhaps neglecting maintenance and selecting the craft for them? Involvement from the planet? The captain himself perhaps? After all, isn't this a Romulan ploy we're facing? The first officer? Anyone else on the senior staff who knew? Who might want to let you take the fall?"
Taita was babbling, and he didn't realise it; he was too fired up in his own narrowminded notions, to notice the hurt on the lieutenant's face.
S'reena Hope (This is presuming Ensign Andrus is physically present on the bridge. If he is not, please alert me so I may amend my post so he is still properly tagged)
S'reena had taken the Meran general on a tour of the ship, showing him every nook and cranny apart from the restricted area's. "And finally, the beehive of the El-Salvador." She stood near the turbolift's door, waiting for it to open. "The bridge." She gave a beaming smile, as the doors opened and the two stepped out. "From here, everything aboard this vessel is controlled. The main seat at the center is usually reserved for the captain, however when he is off duty or engaged elsewhere, the first officer generally takes his place. At present, with Captain Savot detained on your planet, Commander Jackson runs the ship. And she can rely on every officer present, no matter their expertise."
" Commander Hope I'm not sure if you are aware but Commander Jackson just entered sickbay with a Vulcan officer. I have voice my concerns but was over ruled. Commander for the first time in my life I"m finding quite hard to obey the orders I have been given. Any words of advice right now would be most welcomed"
"Did she now colonel?" S'reena answered sharply, not appreciating the interruption. Expecially not since she held no authority on the bridge at the moment. Truth to be told, she had no idea who exactly was in command right now. She listened to the explanation K'ratak was given. "I support the commander's decision," she said resolutely, "we must know for certain. More lives than just the captain's are at stake colonel. I strongly suggest that you guard sickbay's doors with your life and only let anyone of Ensign Andrus' staff in."
A yeoman came to take the general off her hands, and S'reena excused herself politely. "Ensign Andrus, have any security staff been dispatched to sickbay?"
<tag Andrus>
"I just learned that Lieutenant Firestorm has requested that security be sent to sickbay. Please sent two of your most reliable men or women to sickbay, to relieve Colonel K'ratak. Obviously he is battling his conscience, and cannot be relied on to make a just decision."
<tag Andrus>
"If you wish ensign, of course you may tend to the matter yourself. Protect the scientist, and Commander Jackson, at all cost. I know for a fact that Lieutenant Firestorm can fend for himself. You're to relieve K'ratak and send him back to his detail."
<tag Andrus>
S'reena returned her attention to K'ratak. "Await the arrival of security and follow their instructions," she ordered, before tapping her combadge. "Commander Jackson, please know that I am in full support of your decision. I have assumed command of the bridge in your absence and am awaiting your orders. I have sent down security, to relieve Mr K'ratak."

Firestorm uttered a soft purring sound as he made the final arrangements on his patient. The poor scientist was made comfortable to the best of Firestorm's abilities. Not for the first time, did he wonder where the CMO had gone to, as he hadn't seen her since beaming down to Mera III. He only looked up when his sharp feline hearing picked up approaching footsteps.
He flicked his tail as the first officer approached with a young Vulcan male, though of course when referring to Vulcans, 'young' was a relative term as they didn't age at the same rate as most of the species in the Federation did. For a Vulcan to be young, he could be anywhere between somewhere in his twenties, to early sixties. Flicking his tail a second time, Firestorm beckoned them over, gazing past Jackson at the tall Klingon standing guard at the door. "So long as he stays there, and you stay out of the way, the patient is ready," he commented.
The Sivaoan nudged the Vulcan towards the biobed, placing a monitor at the base of his neck. "No arguments," he snapped, "I'll be overthere but I'll not hesitate to yank you out of that meld if the monitor so much as gives a tiny bit of stress. Understood?"
While he had supported the necessity of a mind meld, as a doctor Firestorm couldn't really condone the method. The scientist was defenceless, and his mind was being ruthlessly invaded. Surely even the Vulcan understood? From looking very closely at him, Firestorm knew that the Vulcan wasn't in complete agreement but like himself, understood the logic of the necessity. What surprised him even more though, was hearing S'reena's voice over the intercom, supporting the meld. He was, however, mighty relieved that she ordered the Klingon to stay away, and not interfere.
Giving Tranek some room, Firestorm joined Jackson, a slight distance away. "You better know what you're doing," he murmured at her, though it more sounded like a hiss. "I do intend for the captain to receive a full report. Not to slight you in anway, I think you're doing the right thing, from your own point of view. That just doesn't mean that, from a medical point of view, I have to agree with the method. I do agree with the necessity. I hope you understand?"

After Firestorm gave Tralek the usual medical lecture about pulling him out of the mind meld if the scientist or himself got to stressed Firestorm moved out of the way and Tralek moved closer to the bio bed.
He took a deep breath a last minute meditation before he exposed himself to the emotions and thoughts of the scientist. He then placed his hand on the side of the Scientists face and closed his eyes.
Stacey watched both Tralek and the medical readouts as the mind meld was initiated. However her concentration was cut short when Firestorm spoke to her.
Stacey glanced over at him her face not showing any emotion, she took a deep breath before she said. “I know what I am doing doctor thank you… and for the record I wouldn’t accept anything less of you than to report this to Captain Savot.. because if you didn’t I would throw the book at you.. followed by the bookcase and the library.”
She looked back to Tralek and the scientist and continued by saying. “Captain Savot will be informed of everything that has happened in his absence.. including every one of my decisions.. if he or Starfleet feels I didn’t do my best as First Officer they shall have my resignation.. that’s a promise.” She turned on her heels and walked towards the door of sickbay but before she left she said.
“Let me know when they are finished Doctor.”
She made it back to the bridge in a foul mood her head was thumping in pain and she couldn’t explain it but for the second time in an hour someone had failed to address her as Ma’am or Commander and she didn’t know why but that annoyed her.
In Sickbay Tralek’s eyes moved rapidly as he mentally made his way through the scrambled brain of the scientist, it was hard for him to pick out memories he wanted and not be bombarded with useless ones, however after fifteen minutes of rather exhausting work he released his hand and fell backwards to the floor. Mentally and physically drained he however couldn’t let himself rest, he held himself up with his hands as he said “Romulans… A ship… orbit.. above polar regions… the democratic President knows he is working with them… Commander Jackson needs to know… Now.”
His voice showed no emotion but at the same time it carried a great sense of urgency.

He didn't agree with Commander Hope any more the he agreed with Commander Jackson. But if Commander Hope supported the choice he would obey his orders no matter how it strained his honor.
"Very well Commander I will keep sick bay secured there will be no need to relieve me. You have my word of honor I will obey the order. We will deal with this stuff after the captain is safely back aboard Commander" <Tag hope>
He knew he wasn't the only one having issues with this people called it the grey area. He couldn't see how it was grey one had choices reguardless if they couldn't speak. Still orders were orders and nobody would be entering sick bay with out permission from Commander Jackson no matter his personal feelings.
While watching the hall his thoughts still drifted back to the posion that was use. Tapping his combadge again " Commander Hope when you get time can you please check the medical reports on the posion used. I'm just guessing but if the romulans are involved it might be one of there posion used. If so it could go along way to proving the captain was not at fault" <Tag Hope>
He looked at his guards and hallway all was still clear taping his combadge " Computer place a level one force field around the door to sick bay and lock out transport control to sick bay only. Vocie confirmation needed to deactivate by either the bridge or Commander Jackson"
It was done there was not way into sick bay now he would live with the choice. Orders were orders and there was a time and place to argue them. Commander Hope and just reminded him of that fact. He would take the matter up later after the completion of the mission and not before then.

What seemed eons later, Athgar was finally rewarded with a collected grouping of every single replicator log from the moment the El Salvador got her current assignment until now. It would make no sense for someone to have replicated parts to make a bomb before they even knew the ship would be coming to the Meran system, so there was at least that bit of narrowing the field to be thankful for.
Even after getting the logs it took 2 hours to read through them all, and while the Gorn chief found himself astounded at the number of desserts consumed by the crew over just a couple of days he nonetheless was relieved to find that none of what had been replicated in the given time period could possibly have added up to create the bomb that had killed the Meran leaders. It still wouldn't be concrete enough evidence on its own to satisfy the Merans since they could always assume the replicator logs had been tampered with, but Commander Jackson needed all the ammo she could get so he compiled the relevant data onto a single PADD and headed for the bridge.
Upon arrival, Zak blinked a moment in curious surprise that Commander Hope seemed to be currently holding the conn, but it didn't delay his entry onto the bridge. Athgar saw Andrus preparing to leave the bridge, presumably on Hope's orders, and the Gorn nodded to his boss on the way, "Jussst confirmed our replicator logsss are clean, boss. I'll send a copy of the report to your consssole and leave this datapadd copy here for Commander Jackson when ssshe returns."
<Andrus reply, if any>
The Gorn fired off a salute then headed over to the tactical station to transmit a copy of the replicator log report from the datapadd to the console before walking to the bridge's center letting his final footfalls into a posture of attention land a bit louder than the others, "Commander Hope, replicator logsss confirm the bomb in no way originated from this vessel. Do you want to review the data yourself or should I leave the padd in the Ready Room for Commander Jackson's perusal?"
<Hope>

Propulsion Research Station: Jupiter
Lieutenant Commander Chester Delbridge sat at his work desk... bored as was often the case. He typically finished his scheduled research for any given day ahead of time and since his favorite vulcan's transfer from the station years ago the human engineer could no longer fill the empty hours with attempts to irritate Savot...
In these moments, Delbridge often compromised by comprising some sort of subspace message to elicit a reaction from his stoic vulcan friend. His last had been a very scientific documentary on the mating rituals of nocturnal species... with a not so scientific musical accompaniment of 'Night Fever' by an ancient Earth group the Bee Gees in a form known as Disco. Savot had irritatingly sent the message back having altered the coding in the message that had played the music so that it muted the music instead and turned the message back into a rather boring science documentary.
"I'll need something closer to home this time. Hmm...", the human spoke outloud to himself since there was no one else in his office that would be bothered by it. A devilish grin then formed on the human's clean-shaved face as he pulled up the station's communications archive and looked for a specific years-old message. When Savot had first transferred to the station he had just recently returned from a 7-year captivity in the Mirror Universe... not everyday you hear something like that and if Delbridge hadn't known Savot better he'd have thought the vulcan was pulling his leg.
Anyhow, shortly after arriving at the station, Savot had received a subspace communication from his younger sister Saevalis from Vulcan. Being much more thoughtful than Delbridge would've guessed from her brother's demeanor, Saevalis had sent her brother some holographic pictures of herself and their mother T'Leshka taken during the years of Savot's absence as a way of letting him see how they'd been doing.
Intertwining his fingers, Delbridge pressed his hands outward to crack his knuckles as he began bypassing security to access the archived records of Saevalis' pictures. Approximately 15 minutes later Chester had created what he modestly felt was an excellent slideshow of the young vulcan female with a musical background of 'Bad Mamma Jamma'. "There, that should provoke some irritation from ol' Captain Buzzkill", Delbridge chuckled to himself as he accessed the station's comm-system to send the message over subspace to Savot's ship.
Several minutes later he was informed the message had been received and logged for later review as Savot was currently unavailable. "Unavailable? A guy gets that 4th pip and he forgets the little people. Too busy to take a call from his old buddy Delbridge? That pointy-eared killjoy had better be in jail."
