Andrus stood and was preparing to leave the bridge when Cmdr Hope approached him. She asked him if any Security staff had been dispatched to sickbay to relieve LTC K'ratak.
"I have sent two Officers to releive the Colonel Ma'am' Andrus replied he glanced at the Chronomter and added "they should be there now".

When Stacey entered the bridge everyone grew silent, she wore a less than happy look on her face as she walked through to the command section where Commander Hope had been keeping things together while she was off in sickbay. She knew enough to know the crew were now tired and over stressed,
“Alpha shift… you can go off duty.. get some sleep have something to eat.”
She turned to S’reena and said. “S’reena send a report to Starfleet Command apprise them of our situation.. and ask the Counsellor if he has anything he wishes to send with it… I will be in Savot’s ready room.”
She walked off of the bridge and straight into the ready room, when she entered the room she was alone and could let down the façade of strength and confidence. Her face dropped and she ran her hands through her hair.
She walked over to Savot’s couch and lay down allowing herself to rest for the first time since the briefing she had given the crew when the nightmare first started. But the rest wasn’t complete the faces and voices of the crew ran through her mind. Three of them in particular, Colonel Kratak, Counsellor Chenzira and Doctor Firestorm in particular, she couldn’t get their words of opposition out of her mind. They were so filled with confidence that they were right and she was wrong, Counsellor Chenzira looked at her as if she was a monster with no regard for ethics and morality. This was part of a command position she couldn’t have prepared for and now it was here. She couldn’t help but let thoughts of doubt run through her mind. She had of course in her mind S’reena’s words of support but that was only of small comfort. At that moment in time she would have given anything to be back in her blue uniform the one who stands on the soapbox instead of a red uniform having the soapbox smacked over her head.
***Bridge***
The Vulcan officer Tralek walked onto the bridge being helped by doctor Firestorm, he looked around to see if he could spot Jackson but she wasn’t to be seen, he asked. “Where is Commander Jackson?”
Someone pointed to the ready room and he made his way over to the door with Firestorm.
He rang the bell and as soon as the door opened he walked in.
Jackson yelled “enter.” When the door chime sounded but didn’t sit up or look to see who had walked in, instead she said. “What is it?”
Tralek replied with. “Commander.. I have completed the mind meld.. most of his memeories were scrambled and I was unable to descipher them.. however the Scientist was aware of a plot to kill the President, planned by the Deputy President and off world visitors who possessed technology beyond the Merans… the Scientist didn’t know who they were but he did see one of them… They are Romulans.” He paused for a breath and then continued. “The deputy President enlisted the help of a few Generals and Scientist to help plan the bomb that they were given by the Romulans… he also overheard the Romulan visitor tell the Deputy President that they had a ship in orbit… he felt guilty after the bomb was detonated and Captain Savot was arrested he was going to reveal the plot to Commander Hope,.”
Stacey jumped up when she heard Tralek’s voice and listened intensely as he described what he had learned. It confirmed her and the crews suspicions about the Romulans but the fact they were working with the government made it all the more difficult. She had only one question that she needed answering now.
“Did he know where the Romulan vessel is?”
the Tralek raised his eyebrow as he answered. “No Commander.. however logic would suggest the only place a vessel could hide from our sensors is in the polar regions.. the interference and their cloak would make it impossible to find them unless we specifically were looking for them.”
Stacey nodded. “Good work.. Doctor please escort him to his quarters.. Tralek you should get some rest.”
<tag Firestorm>
She walked back onto the bridge all doubt about her decisions erased from her mind. “Red Alert.. all hands battle stations.” She said practically yelling it out.
She tapped her comm. Badge. “All Senior officers to the bridge.”
Looking to S’reena she said. “Commander Hope scan the planets polar regions look for a cloaked ship in orbit… Lieutenant Andrus.. charge weapons and raise shields to maximum.”
<Tag Hope/ Andrus>
She walked to the middle of the bridge and turned to Commander Richards. ‘Commander Richards.. open a hailing channel on all frequencies.”
<Tag Richards>
She turned to the view screen although she didn’t need to as it would be an audio only hail. “Romulan Vessel.. this is Commander Stacey Jackson of the Federation starship El Salvador.. we know you are there.. we also now you provided a bomb that killed three of my crew.. you have committed an act of war… you have thirty seconds to de cloak and respond or I will open fire.”
The senior officers who were not on the bridge already began to file in, she turned to S’reena and asked. “Tell me you found them Commander?”
<Tag All Crew.. lets start getting this mission to the finish line in style>

"I have sent two Officers to releive the Colonel Ma'am' Andrus replied he glanced at the Chronomter and added "they should be there now".
"Acknowledged ensign," the Romulan replied, nodding to where she assumed the security chief was standing. She had no idea whether he was at his station yet, and with Auric off to amuse herself for a while, she was left on her lonesome. "Let us know if the colonel gives your men any issues, would you?"
<tag Andrus>
“S’reena send a report to Starfleet Command apprise them of our situation.. and ask the Counsellor if he has anything he wishes to send with it… I will be in Savot’s ready room.”
"Yes ma'am," the Romulan replied automatically, before realising Stacey didn't want her to call her ma'am. Still...it seemed like the proper thing to do. She tapped her combadge. "Counselor Chenzira, when you have a moment, please send your report on your views in regards to Commander Jackson's actions to the bridge. I have to add it to a report to Starfleet."
=^= Already filed =^= came the curt response from the counselor =^= look it up yourself, it's listed. =^=
S'reena blinked in surprise. "Why, thank you commander, and thank you for being so helpful to a blind woman. Surely you know I cannot look anything up, in the literal sense?" The channel was cut abruptly. "Why of all the..." She shrugged. "He'll run into himself at some point...trust me."
She heard footsteps after the turbolift doors opened and slid shut again. One set of steps was light, almost bouncing and even, while the other was more heavy, as if the person was exhausted. She paid them no further attention as they led away from her position on the bridge.
Firestorm supported the exhausted Vulcan, holding him up by means of having slipped an arm around his waist while pulling the Vulcan's arm up over his own shoulders. He knew the meld had been a bad idea, and he was certain that it had nearly cost the young man his life. He listened as the Vulcan reported what he had learned, nodding on occasion. "The Meran scientist is fighting for his life, but I'm not sure how long he'll last. He's in pain, obviously, and the most humane thing would be to just let him go."
“Good work.. Doctor please escort him to his quarters.. Tralek you should get some rest.”
"Come with me lieutenant." The feline carefully hoisted the Vulcan back to his feet. "Just lean on me, I truly don't mind. Unless you of course mind, in which case it's still all the same to me," he babbled on, while half-dragging the Vulcan out of the readyroom and off the bridge.
S'reena heard her friend babble on end, but paid the string of words no heed. She had more ear for Jackson, who suddenly started to shout out orders. “Commander Hope scan the planets polar regions look for a cloaked ship in orbit… Lieutenant Andrus.. charge weapons and raise shields to maximum.”
"Scanning at maximum strength," the Romulan replied, her hands flying over her science console, "compensating for a possible cloaking device."
<TagAndrus>
“Romulan Vessel.. this is Commander Stacey Jackson of the Federation starship El Salvador.. we know you are there.. we also now you provided a bomb that killed three of my crew.. you have committed an act of war… you have thirty seconds to de cloak and respond or I will open fire.”
There was no response from the Romulans in any form. Not a shimmer of a warbird or other craft, nor any indication that they had heard the threat, or were even present to begin with.
“Tell me you found them Commander?”
A triumphant smile appeared on S'reena's face as she listened to the data feedback. "Oh yes," she grinned, turning around. "I've fed co-ordinates to tactical. Weapons are ready to fire on your mark commander. They're playing dead, but they're quite there, trust me. I know a Romulan when I see one." Obviously. "When we kicked their butts....can we go get the captain?" She wanted to be part of that, very much so.

He arrived on the bridge with the rest of the senior staff, he listened as they started to close on the cloaked Romulan vessel. It would only be a matter of time before things started to get a little rough.
" Commander Jackson" as he stood at his station " May I make a small suggestion, which might go a long way to helping the captain. I just we open a com channel to the planet and transmitt a live feed on whats going on. I also suggest we transmitt any and all signals dealing with the Romulans. This way the both goverments and track whats going on them selves with out saying its a trick. Kind of hard to say its a hoax when there to much proof, I would also suggest flooding the area with Radiation to help there sheilds will show up on everybody senors to prove there actually there. Its just a suggestion but I feel it could help us in the end" <Tag Jackson>
" I do believe Commander Hope could come up with the right radiation to release to help there shields really light up. If the commander would be so kind to light the way to those of us who can't see what she feels" <Tag Hope>

She turned and offered S’renna a smile not that S’reena could see it, “Once these Romulans have been taught a lesson.. we will get the captain.” Stacey turned back to the view screen and counted down in her head, she didn’t really expect the Romulans to de cloak, it wasn’t their style, they no doubt believed they were still hidden from the El Salvador’s sensors but in twenty seconds they would get a rude shock. But she knew one thing, as soon as the government under the deputy president found out his Romulan allies were gone Savot would be as good as dead, but before she could speak Kratak offered a suggestion. "May I make a small suggestion, which might go a long way to helping the captain. Its just a suggestion but I feel it could help us in the end"She turned and smiled slightly but she shook her head. “Good thinking Kratak but I know at least one government knows already about the Romulans, and as soon as they find out we are blowing their Romulan friends out of the stars they will surely take revenge on Captain Savot.” An idea suddenly popped into her head, they could kill two birds with one stone. “Hope get down to the mini Sal.. time to spring Savot… his arrest is illegal and therefore unrecognised by the prime directive.” She turned to Kratak.. and Andrus who both stood at the tactical console. “Kratak.. Andrus go with her and take a team of marines.. phasers on stun, only use them in self defence…. And make sure the captain gets back in one piece” She watched as the three officers left the bridge <Tag Andrus, Kratak> she turned to the helm and walked up to Fire. “Mr Fire bring us closer to the Romulan vessel.. full impulse.” She walked back to the captains chair and took a deep breath before she said. “Lock phasers… Fire.” <Tag Fire> (Ok guys lets bring back the Captain, his holiday is over , Mr Fire feel free to make things interesting up here for the rest of us.. just don't destroy the ship ;D)

"Auric!" S'reena called, needing her little familiar with her on this important mission. She knew she would do her very best, determined not to solely rely on those who were with her. Now was the time to learn to be not solely dependant and be more self-aware and self- self what? The Romulan shook her head in dismay, disregarding her own train of thoughts. "Yes ma'am!" she called as she jumped to her feet, her place immediately taken by Ian, who deftly switched the controls back to visual display rather than audio.
With K'ratak and Andrus in tow, she sped down to the bay where the mini-sal was docked. "Andrus, take the helm," she ordered.
<tag Andrus...make a show of setting us down somewhere would you?>
"K'ratak if you would be so kind as to man shields and weapons? Fire only when fired upon."
The Romulan took her own seat. "I'll take sensor control."
~
Several long minutes later, the marine detail, led by Andrus and K'ratak, entered the building ahead of her. "Split up," she ordered, "I want to do the final honours myself." She felt she owed him this much, still feeling guilty over the words that could've damned him in the first place.
It didn't take long to home in on the captain's biosignature, though it took a very long time to get there, without being discovered. The marines were doing their job well, taking out the Merans without much use of force, and more importantly, without hurting them. They were, after all, only following the orders of their corrupt leaders, without knowing the full truth of the matter.
With the two other senior officers flanking her, S'reena charged into the final building. Auric wheeled in above her, chittering wildly. The Romulan had the eeriest sensation of watching through the firelizard's eyes for the briefest of moments. But it was enough to learn which cell the Vulcan was held.
"Captain, step back!" she called out, leveling her phaser. She prayed the beam was strong enough to break the lock on the door, and that she was aiming precisely enough to only break the lock, and not accidently shoot the captain in the process. Auric screamed in warning as she aimed, missing the lock of the barred door by a fracture. It was just as well Savot had stepped out of the way, for the beam raked closely past him, minutely missing him. With effort, the Romulan fired again, this time causing the door to spring open. "Hurry!" she called out, reaching to grab him. Unceremoneously, and without thought for decorum, she yanked her superior out of the cell. "Andrus, take point!" she called out, shoving her phaser into Savot's hands. "Best that you take this sir," she murmured.
Twenty minutes later, the small team reboarded the mini-sal. Panting for breath, S'reena turned to face the Vulcan. "Are you all right?" she queried, her voice laced with guilt. "I'm very sorry for my words, when you were arrested. I hope that didn't make it any worse for you." Then, out of the blue she reached out and pulled him into a very tight but brief hug. "I'm glad you're safe," she whispered, before releasing him. Embarassment coloured her cheeks as she was quite conscious of the others around her, being witness to this emotional display.
Taking her station, she signaled the El-Salvador. "Commander Jackson, we have the captain and are en-route to the El-Salvador."

Glared at the man violently, "Your out of line Commander." He said yanking his arm away. "I'm done answering your questions and your methods are not going to help you dwelve into my past either so don't..." He was interrupted by the comm system.
“All Senior officers to the bridge.”
He looked once more at the officer with more of a glare, "Out!" He said hustling the officer out of his quarters once he was gone he would answer his call to duty by standing up and straightening his uniform. This should be interesting, and he was glad that the first officer had drawn him away from the situation that he knew could have gotten uglier then what it was already. Quickly he marched his way to the turbolift and onto the bridge taking his seat behind a few other senior officers. He sat down at the helm and looked at their current situation.
It wasn't long either and some of the officers went off to take care of flying the captain back to the ship. Perhaps it was better that way he could stay on the ship where he was needed the most.
she turned to the helm and walked up to Fire. “Mr Fire bring us closer to the Romulan vessel.. full impulse.”
She walked back to the captains chair and took a deep breath before she said. “Lock phasers… Fire.”
James nodded, "Yes ma'am," he complied with the order bringing them closer and scanning them for any weaknesses he could exploit. "Tactical station I am sending you the sensor scans from their hull I found a weak point in their shields, and imagine that it leads right into their weapons systems."
The ensign at the tactical station nodded, "Yes sir." He would fire two bolts of phaser energy into the locations brilliant flashes of light eminated from the location. "Sir their weapons system is down, shields have gone down as well. Firing on their engines..."
James watched out the viewport as another flash of light eminated from the ship, "Ma'am their engines are down, they are hailing us."

Savot sat calmly upon the bench in his cell, hands clasped in meditation, until he began to make out odd sounds like muffled yells and boots landing quickly on the tiled floor. As he rose from the bench, he blinked in surprise at the appearance of Commander Hope brandishing a phaser to retrieve him. "Captain, step back!" she called out, leveling her phaser. Savot quickly shifted his body to the side, but judging from the alignment of the phaser her first shot would miss the lock so he stretched his hands as far apart as the shackles would allow then oriented the middle of the cuffs into the beam's pathway and his hands were freed by the first blast. He then commended Hope's corrective judgement as her next blast eliminated the lock sending the cell door creaking open. His moment of praise was cut short; however, as he was bodily tugged from the cell and S'reena called out to the new Tac/Sec Andorian officer, "Andrus, take point!" she called out, shoving her phaser into Savot's hands. "Best that you take this sir," she murmured. Savot nodded pointlessly, and took on faith that a rescue team being here had to mean that something had finally shed light on Romulan involvement and that his officers wouldn't simply 'spring' him without justification. As they manuevered back through the facility towards the exit Savot noted with satisfaction that no lethal force had been used on the prison guards... but he did quirk an eyebrow at the presence of an unfamiliar Klingon Marine Colonel amidst the rescue team. Whatever had become of Wolf and how this officer had come to be here were questions that would have to wait until they were all safely back aboard the El Salvador. Boarding the Mini-Sal, Savot looked to ensure everyone was aboard though he honestly had to take the others' word for it since he didn't know the number of personnel that had been sent to get him back. As the vulcan visually scanned the various officers taking their stations aboard the shuttle, S'reena turned toward him with a concerned expression. "Are you all right?" she queried, her voice seemingly heavy with a burden of some sort, "I'm very sorry for my words, when you were arrested. I hope that didn't make it any worse for you." Savot's expression softened though the Romulan couldn't see that, and he placed his right hand upon her uniformed left shoulder as he replied, "I assure you Commander I am quite well. Your concern is most thoughtful and you have my thanks for it, but I understood the line of logic you were attempting to draw for them with your earlier statement. Only their heightened emotional state given the explosion blinded them to your conclusion; you were not at fault." Then, out of the blue she reached out and pulled him into a very tight but brief hug. Surprised by the motion, Savot only had time to begin analyzing whether proper decorum dictated a distant response or if returning the hug would be more suitable under the circumstances before the decision was taken out of his purview. "I'm glad you're safe," she whispered, before releasing him. "Thank you for retrieving me, Ms. Hope", Savot replied with a grateful nod. S'reena then hesitated a moment, appearing to consider the presence of the officers around her before resuming her station at sensors. Taking her station, she signaled the El-Salvador, =^=Commander Jackson, we have the captain and are en-route to the El-Salvador.=^= Since every station was manned, the Klingon at the weapons station and Andrus pilotting the craft, Savot merely stood amidst the workstations staring forward through the main viewscreens, taking the opportunity to once again clasp his newly emancipated hands behind him at the small of his back while the Mini-Sal rose from the Meran surface and began its return trip. Immediately upon breaking atmosphere they were treated to the sight of the El Salvador's phasers raking across the Romulan craft that was now visible after suffering damage to its systems. Savot narrowed his eyes slightly, then moved to peer over S'reena's shoulders at the sensor data, "Mr. Andrus manuever to keep the El Salvador between ourselves and the Romulan vessel until we receive confirmation that they've surrendered. We don't wish to block Commander Jackson's line of fire or risk coming under Romulan fire and being used as a bargaining chip to secure their escape. Colonel, transfer all weapons power to our shields. Any fighting will be left to the ship; our job is to remain intact in the interim." <Andrus, K'ratak, Hope responses if any. It's good to be home >

Stacey sat in the command chair as the El Salvador moved to catch up to the Romulan Vessel that had begun to move away. The comm. Channel came to life with the voice of Commander Hope.
"Commander Jackson, we have the captain and are en-route to the El-Salvador."
Stacey took a breath of relief before she replied.
“Excellent.. keep your distance from us Commander we are a little busy.. Jackson out.”
The El Salvador came close behind the Romulan vessel, which after the first phaser shot de cloaked to expose itself as the small science vessel it was, on the bridge Lieutenant Fire spoke up saying.
"Tactical station I am sending you the sensor scans from their hull I found a weak point in their shields, and imagine that it leads right into their weapons systems."
Stacey turned and nodded her head at the ensign at tactical who acted on Fire’s sensor readings, The El Salvador fired again ripping through the shields of the Romulan vessel that was no match for a Prometheus class starship, it stopped dead in it’s tracks as an explosion rippled across it’s aft.
James Fire spoke up to inform Jackson that the Romulan vessel was now in the mood to talk, and were hailing.
She stood up as she said. “Open a channel.”
The view screen switched from the display of the scene outside the ship to a badly distorted view of the Romulan Bridge, no doubt their systems were badly damaged and the interference was a result.
“Romulan Vessel.. this ends now.. You will surrender and prepare to be boarded.”
The response from the Commander of the Romulan vessel who’s face was hidden by distortion was exactly as expected. “Never.”
The channel closed and before Jackson could order the tractor beam to hold them in place. The Romulan vessel exploded in a flash of brilliant light, the El Salvador rocked but no damage was done they were too far away for that. She took a deep breath and said.
“They had no other choice…we arrest them and they are turned over to the Romulans they would have been executed as criminals.. Whether they were acting under orders or not…. Mr. Fire You have the bridge bring us around and prepare the shuttle bay to receive the Mini Sal.”
She walked to the turbolift and stepped inside, there were still a few loose ends to tie up. Getting off on deck four she walked to the guest quarters that were guarded by two security men and nodded at them as they stepped inside.
As she entered the quarters she was greeted by a look of confusion by General Mi’ger whom had no doubt witnessed the battle from his window. “General… that was a Romulan Vessel .. they were here on the invitation of the new President.. who along with them masterminded the bombing to extend the war… on this Padd I am holding is all the evidence.. we promised to share it with you.. a promise I will honour… what you do with it is your business as we will be leaving within the hour.” She handed him the Padd.
He took the Padd all this still buzzing around in his mind. “I will bring this to the attention of the Military commanders… he will be punished as a traitor should.”
She merely nodded not knowing whether to trust him nor really caring. “As I said your business.. not ours… Once we are back in orbit you will be escorted to the transporter room.. we will beam you any where on the surface you wish”
She turned and left the room, she made her way to the Shuttle bay, she arrived just in time to see the shuttle bay doors open, and the Mini Sal fly closer.

Aboard the Mini-Sal Savot watched the pieces fall into place as the Romulan vessel was forced to decloak. It seemed they had very much intended this to be a behind-the-scenes operation given that only a science vessel was used. Any Federation ship beyond another science vessel would likely have had no difficulty facing this craft, but against a Prometheus class ship they were most definitely outmatched.
The vulcan captain was not privy to the brief exchange of dialogue taking place between Jackson and the Romulans, but was able to see their self-destruction. He regretted the loss of life but knew the Romulans almost never allowed themselves to be captured in the event of a failed mission and as such was not surprised by their actions. The shuttle returned to the El Salvador, a somber silence having fallen over its occupants following the Romulan explosion. As they landed Savot saw Commander Jackson standing near the bay's entrance, and he exitted the craft to greet her.
He approached his First Officer, now in a standard uniform shirt but still wearing the pants and boots he'd worn when they first beamed down. "Thank you for organizing my retrieval Commander; from all appearances you've performed most admirably in my absence. I do; however, regret placing this burden upon you so soon after your initial acceptance of the First Officer position. I will gladly resume command once I've been medically cleared of any potential brainwashing or other physiological sabotage", the vulcan captain stated with no more feeling than one would mention picking up their laundry.
When held beyond the observation of fellow Starfleet personnel it was technically protocol that medical tests had to be performed upon the officer's return to ensure he or she had not been tampered with during their captivity; Savot had not been but that was no justification to ignore regulations. "If you have anything to add to the ship's log before I review it please do so during my examination, after which you may 'take a break'; one I imagine has been quite well-earned", Savot bowed his head politely before departing towards sickbay.
<Any Jackson responses can be inserted where appropriate>
Savot reached sickbay at the same time as a very weary looking Deis Irae. His eyes began to narrow in concern but upon seeing him she took on an apologetic expression, "Och, Captain I'm so sorry. I've been up to mah elbows in trauma cases in Cargo Bay 2; we had it converted to a triage center fer the duration of the debacle down there. What th' hell just blew up?"
Savot's brow rose slightly at her apparent surprise... it was likely in her preoccupied state she may even have avoided hearing any word of his being held on the planet surface, "A Romulan vessel was discovered and their involvement in the bomb assassination seems to have been most definitively proven. The situation at present has been resolved though I deeply regret the impact this will likely have on the Merans' peace efforts. Future generations do not deserve to suffer for the foolishness of a few ancestral figures." He pursed his lips in consideration of what would likely happen over the next few months between the two Meran governments.
Deis looked at her vulcan friend, began to open her mouth, then looked down at the deck as though reluctant to speak. However, the woman she'd become in her time away knew that the inevitable is best dealt with in the moment rather than procrastinated for later. "Captain I cannae stay on th' ship at th' present time."
Broken from his internal postulating Savot looked at the Irish female but she continued before he could speak, "As I worked t' save those people... everythin' else became a blur. I didnae report progress t' the bridge or even back t' Sickbay I was just so... intent on th' doctorin'."
The vulcan's brow furrowed slightly, "While that is technically a slip in procedure I do not believe it warrants a transfer Doctor."
Deis shook her head, "But it made it clear t' me that I'm not ready to be everythin' I used to be. Doctor... officer... friend... all at once. Somethin' in who I've become is so driven on whatever's right in front of her that she cannae see the proverbial forest for the trees. Until I can mesh all that I am together again all at once, the best I can do fer the universe is be jus' a doctor for awhile I think. I'm not quitting this time, just enterin' the Inactive Reserve... but I do need some time to work things out; I hope ye understand."
Savot nodded slowly. He did indeed understand; he himself had taken time off a few months after being rescued by their ship's predecessor the El Salvador-A. While he was still technically proficient in most areas he'd been literally out of this world for 7 years and he'd felt he needed time to 'catch up' so to speak, so he'd transferred to the Jupiter Propulsion Research station until he'd felt ready to resume starship duty. He raised his right hand in the traditional vulcan salute, but was abruptly seized in his 2nd hug of the day by the Irishwoman. Stepping back she chuckled softly to herself as though to alleviate her own embarassment, "No goodbyes sair. I promise ye I'll see ye again before too long."
The vulcan captain's hand hovered in the air a moment, then he gave an almost-smile and lowered his hand, nodding to his friend, "I shall welcome that occasion Doctor. May your journey be free of incident."
The pair parted ways, Deis heading for her quarters to pack, and Savot into Sickbay to have the requisite tests conducted. He glanced around to see if there was an unoccupied doctor available, failing that he'd simply activate his companion the EMH.
<Tag Firestorm or Dr. Hope if interested. Otherwise I don't at all mind taking care of it via EMH in my next post.>

<Tag Andrus, land the shuttle – I won’t steal your thunder.>
Savot stepped out of the Mini Sal, and Stacey offered a small nod of the head as he approached. She was more than relieved to see he was unharmed if not a great deal more dishevelled than he normally appeared.
Stacey took a few steps forward as he started to speak. What he said while not said with any form of enthusiasm or happiness made Stacey smile, she had known Vulcans long enough to know it was what they said that counts not how they said it.
“Thank you Captain .. I only regret that the Merans will be made to pay for the antagonistic relationship we have with the Romulan Empire.”
He continued by saying he would take over after his medical examination and if he had been of any other species she would have insisted he get some rest of his own, but she knew well enough if he needed it he would go, or in the very least insist they both go rest.
He then asked if there was anything she would like to add to the report, which brought up the unpleasant business of some of the crew taking complaints to him about the mind meld she ordered. Looking past Savot she said to K’ratak, Hope and Andrus.
“Well done people .. it has been a long breakless mission for all of you as well.. go rest.. see or see your families as the case may be.”
She looked back to Savot and said. “We can walk and talk sir.”
She followed as he started on his way for the closest turbolift.
“Captain no doubt before long you will have some crew members offering you complaints about my conduct while in command… I ordered a mind meld with a Meran scientist who I believed had knowledge of the Romulan presence… he was in a coma and as such couldn’t give permission.. I received two objections.. and one request for me to relieve someone of duty due to their belief I was breaking the law… I tell you this before they come to you sir I don’t want you to be blindsided.. a Full report was made to Starfleet and a copy is on your desk.” She nodded once more and took her leave leaving Savot to get into the turbolift but before the doors closed she said.
“Watch out for the Counsellor sir.. I would keep ear plugs handy.. he no doubt will first in line... And I would take a phaser blast to save you captain but I draw the line at a Screaming Counsellor”
With that she made her way back the way she came.

Taita was positively fuming when the lieutenant bodily shoved him out of his quarters. "We're not done yet!" he shouted after the hastily retreating navigation's officer, while rubbing his arm. No doubt, that was going to leave a bruise. "Violent nature," Taita murmured to himself, eyes gleaming with fury, "excessive bodily harm..." Already he was forming up his report on the young pilot, and it wouldn't be good. "Lack of compassion on the death of his comrades," he continued as he strode to sickbay, "one'd almost think he had pointed ears!" When he walked into the medical bay he forcibly collided with something tall and very furry. "Watch it furball," he spat, crawling back to his feet. Firestorm hissed in response, hackles raised, eyes narrowed and his ears flat against his head. "Perhaps you should moderate your pace, when walking into a medical facility," he suggested pleasantly, "as well as your language. My name is Firestorm, though I concede that before I got my name, it was indeed Furball. However, as I have my name, I suggest you use it." The counselor cast him an infuriated glare, then nodded over to Savot. "You done with him yet?" he spat, not really looking forward to having a talk with a Vulcan. It was so mundane, trying to get a Vulcan to admit to his faults and well come to terms with whatever he might feel, providing they admitted to feeling anything in the first place. ~a waste of time~ Taita thought. On his part, Firestorm left the counselor standing where he stood and padded back to the Vulcan. "My apologies captain," he started, pointing his tail at Chenzira, "the counselor was having a fit. Please lie down on the bed, it shan't take long." The tall feline moved around the bed, tricorder in hand. "Were you treated well?" he asked quietly, while waving the tricorder along the length of the Vulcan's torso. "I find no indication of mistreatment, though you may want those taken off?" Firestorm indicated the metallic manacles that still adorned the captain's wrists. After removing them, the feline tsk'd over the bruises they'd left. He reached for a dermal regenerator and seconds later any trace of injury was gone. "You're as fit as a fiddle," he pronounced, "though I suggest you get some rest anyway." He purred. "However illogical it may sound to you. Now, I think Counselor Chenzira'd like to have a word. A word of warning, I don't think he belongs here. Intelligent man, but with a strong attitude. Especially against anyone who isn't Human." While Firestorm walked away, Taita approached. "Good day captain," he started, forcibly polite while not quite meeting the captain's eyes. "I trust you are well?" The Egyptian pulled up a seat and sat himself down. "Were you treated well while held captive?" Again, he sounded forcibly polite, as if he had to work hard not to sound rude. After a short conversation, Taita rose to his feet. "Sir, I wish to file a complaint of misconduct against Commander Jackson. She completely disregarded protocol when she forced Lieutenant Tranek to perform a mindmeld on a comatose patient. Additionally," and now Taita rolled up his sleeve to show a purple discolouration, "I wish to file a complaint of misconduct against Lieutenant Fire. He forcibly removed me from his quarters while I was performing my duties as counselor. Apparently, he did not like my line of questioning, however he showed a complete lack of emotions, when confronted with the death of two of his teammates. I find that disconcerting, in the least!" His expression was grim, his eyes flashing in anger, though his posture was reasonably composed and 'at attention'. "If that was all, I would like to return to my duties."

The mission was almost over although the out come was still in question. Would this world ever find peace such a waist he thought to himself. Even more he was sitting in his office going over recent events. He now had to face the tough choice of whether to file a report on his recent objection. At the moment he could see the positive out come of the mind meld, the capation was safe. Though there were no taboo's about what Commander Jackson had done his mind raced to what if there was.
He found himself secound guessing his choice which was not a good thing. The biggest problem was if there had been a taboo about invading somebody's mind would Commander Jackson have gone through with it. There was no answer to that question looking at the report he started he deleted. Instead he opened another report and started writing sometimes you can't guess he thought to himself. When finished there was very little mention of the force mind meld. He was going with his gut and hoping it wasn't wrong that commander Jackson would be a good first officer.
This was a new ship and new crew he would do what ever he could to try and fit in. With that he filed his secound report for Captain Savot to read which was a little more honest then the one filed with star fleet.
" Captain Savot,
While performing my duties I was placed in a position where my honor and moral beliefs were pushed to the limit. Commander Jackson reasoning for a force mind at this moment seem like the best choice no matter my objection. I still am concerned that if the race in question had taboo's about entering somebody's mind would she have gone through with it. I can't not answer this nor do I wish to try. What I must say is I very nearly failed in my duties to carry out her orders. I secound guessed my self and if not for Commander Hope I might have disobeyed orders because of my personal feelings. I report this to you and await your judgement on my action. While I did perform my duties I can't say that I would do so again, Klingons have very strong feelings about entering one's mind with out permission. We find the act to have no honor. As this being said I have no wish to file any complaints against Commander Jackson I do not know her well enough to sit in judgement of her actions. I must believe that if such a taboo did exisit she would follow it. I on the other hand must face what ever action you may see fit for questioning my orders and very nearly disobeying them.
Respectfully Col, K'ratak"
He left his office and headed for the bridge, it was time to see what he could do to help if anything.

ittign at his duty station, Andrus was continually monitoring his readouts and system statuses. Cmdr Jacksopn ordered "Commander Hope scan the planets polar regions look for a cloaked ship in orbit… Lieutenant Andrus.. charge weapons and raise shields to maximum.”
"Aye, Aye Commander" came the terse reply. Andrus raised the shields and with help from OPS strengthened the sheields. Weapons were fully powered and made ready. He hoped that a clash could be avoided.
The Bolian CTSO wantd dot be an explorer like Picard and Kirk. What was it like to have lived in their times?
Andrus had yet to be ina first contact missiona nd wondered what he'd doo when the time came. The El-Salvador-B was a flagship for his squadron and was liekly to face a fair shar eof combat. He wondered whaat he;d o? would he let Captain Savot and MCdr Jackson down? Time would tell.

Andrus followed Cmdr Hope and K'ratak. The trio was soon standing before a sleek craft Andrus learned was named min-El Sal. Thinking to himself ~ She's a beauty~. He longed to get his hands on the controls. Andrus was a good pilot and loved to fly when he had the chance. Cmdr Hope wsa the firs tRomulan female he had met and she presented a puzzle to him. She and Cmdr Jackson seemed to continually be at odds. No one had clued him in as to the reason why. After allowing the two more senior offuicers to enter the vessel, Andrus stepped in and marvelled at teh craft. Cmdr Hope told Andrus to pilot the min El-Sal. If Andrus had been human he might have turned a whiter shade of pale at this point. Andrus sat done ans reviewed the control systems. He bgan the pre-luanhc checklist. all sytems were in the green. Looking at Cthe Romulan Commander for an ok to proceed, he began the launch process. <OOC> This assumes Hope says fire away LT! - RPG: "USS El-Salvador - thiisin the mini El-Sal requesting permission to launch" Andrus radioed. <TAg: Flight Control Officer> The flaunch bay wall opened and the beauty of space was before the trio.As Andrus's fingers lfew over the flight control, he thought to himself~ I sure hope I don't dnet the ship~ and grinned to himself. The flight was not difficult and from Andrus's view - way too short. He had opted to land a bit out of the way site. This lessend his chances of being spotted. Andrus had decided caution was paramount. ------------------------------- LT 9jg) Andrus CTSO USS El-Salvador B

[Backpost: Jackson exchange in shuttlebay]
Stacey took a few steps forward as Savot started to speak.
Savot's expression took a slightly somber tone as he nodded his agreement, "I too wish the situation had developed differently. But do recall Commander that our political relationship with the Romulans is not the only factor at fault here. Those in league with them amidst the Meran governments also bear responsibility as they had to be willing to accept the Romulans' aid for things to turn out as they have."
He asked if she had anything to add and after giving congratulatory permission to the 'troops' to go get some rest she looked back to Savot and said. “We can walk and talk sir”, she said as she fell into step alongside the vulcan as he started on his way for the closest turbolift.
“Captain no doubt before long you will have some crew members offering you complaints about my conduct while in command… I ordered a mind meld with a Meran scientist who I believed had knowledge of the Romulan presence… he was in a coma and as such couldn’t give permission.. I received two objections.. and one request for me to relieve someone of duty due to their belief I was breaking the law… I tell you this before they come to you sir I don’t want you to be blindsided.. a Full report was made to Starfleet and a copy is on your desk.”
Savot's brow rose slightly in surprise; he hadn't expected people to be dissatisfied with Commander Jackson but perhaps that was a curse that descended upon all command officers from time to time. "I see. While I'll certainly avail myself of the detailed report after finishing in sickbay, I'm confident based on your summary that all appropriate steps were taken with regard to protocol. I again apologize for placing this level of burden upon you so quickly after your appointment as First Officer; I'll confer with you again after reading the relevant reports."
The vulcan bowed his head politely and she nodded once more and took her leave leaving Savot to get into the turbolift but before the doors closed she said, “Watch out for the Counsellor sir.. I would keep ear plugs handy.. he no doubt will first in line... And I would take a phaser blast to save you captain but I draw the line at a Screaming Counsellor.”
That last set of statements caused his brow to rise yet again, an expression upon which the turbolift doors closed letting his slight bewilderment be the last thing Jackson saw.
[Sickbay: After Deis farewell]
Savot entered Main Sickbay to see the Sivaoan Lieutenant on duty, who upon seeing the vulcan indicated a biobed just being freed up. The vulcan captain sat sideways on the bed while Firestorm went to gather his instruments at which point a human male collided with him, "Watch it furball," the man spat, crawling back to his feet.
Savot raised an eyebrow at the man's apparent irritation and commended Firestorm on not elevating his own ire. The vulcan's lips then drew together, noting with curiosity that the Sivaoan's name had indeed been Furball before completing his Walk. Savot still knew only the most basic components of Sivaoan culture but he was familiar with that point.
"I find no indication of mistreatment, though you may want those taken off?"
"Indeed I was treated quite well under the circumstances", Savot held his wrists out as the remnants of the phaser-split shackles were removed from his wrists and the dermal regenerator applied to the mild abrasions they'd caused.
"You're as fit as a fiddle," Firestorm pronounced, "though I suggest you get some rest anyway." He purred, "However illogical it may sound to you."
Savot gave his head a slight tilt and arched a brow, "If necessary, rest cannot be illogical. Thank you Doctor Firestorm."
The Sivaoan stepped aside to let the vulcan slip down off the biobed, and the furred head angled towards the human male, "Now, I think Counselor Chenzira'd like to have a word. A word of warning, I don't think he belongs here. Intelligent man, but with a strong attitude. Especially against anyone who isn't Human."
Firestorm departed, but Chenzira didn't wait for Savot to come to him; he strode up to the captain. "Good day captain," he started, his voice seeming strained and not quite meeting the captain's eyes. "I trust you are well?" The Egyptian pulled up a seat and sat himself down. "Were you treated well while held captive?"
As he'd had plenty of time to sit in his prison cell Savot opted to remain standing. He dipped his head in polite gratitude to the officer as he replied, "I'm told I'm quite well at present, nor was I mistreated on the planet surface. Thank you for asking, Mr. Chenzira."
I find that disconcerting, in the least!"
His expression was grim, his eyes flashing in anger, though his posture was reasonably composed and 'at attention'. "If that was all, I would like to return to my duties."
Savot had listened, though his eyes narrowed slightly as the subject matter the Counselor wished to discuss had become clear, and he leaned forward slightly to examine the mark upon the man's arm when he displayed it, nodding to confirm he was paying attention for the duration of the complaint. At the end; however, Savot looked at the man and quite calmly replied, "I'm afraid not Counselor; please accompany me."
The vulcan walked to what would normally have been Irae's private office, closing the door once they had both entered. "Have a seat if you wish, Mr. Chenzira. First, you came to me so I find myself somewhat confused by your final inquiry of 'If that was all'. I didn't summon you so you were free to leave whenever you so desired."
Savot remained standing and had his hands clasped behind him as per usual, "Secondly, while your distress regarding your encounter with Mr. Fire, as well as your point of view regarding the issue of the mind meld are quite understandable and I don't fault you for feeling as you do, the manner in which you brought your feelings to my attention is unacceptable. Should you wish to make a complaint against any officer, particularly members of the senior staff, you are to do so in private as it is unprofessional to cast doubt on their abilities in view of other crewmembers."
He continued on, tone firm but containing no malice towards Chenzira, "If officers are abusing their authority or behaving in a manner unbecoming a member of Starfleet you are quite correct in submitting complaints to that effect and I appreciate your willingness to voice your concerns. Should your complaints prove warranted the offending personnel will be handled accordingly and justice will be done, but in the interim the ship cannot function if the crew sees rampant discontent among those they take their orders from."
"As for returning to duty I'm afraid that won't be possible for the moment. A ship's performance is dependent on functioning components, of which its crew is just as important if not moreso than any ODN conduit or Warp coil. Particularly since this issue involves two of our senior officers I'm not prepared to report us available to receive new orders until it's been resolved, and to allow any of the interested parties to continue 'business as usual' so to speak could create further problems if these underlying issues remain there unresolved."
"Yourself, Mr. Fire, and Commander Jackson will be freed from any official duties until this matter has reached a satisfactory conclusion; though for the sake of crew morale it will be entered simply as being off-duty, not relieved of same. In the meantime you are all free to pursue whatever personal activities you normally enjoy. I will review ship's logs and interview those personnel relevant to the scenarios you referred to in your complaints, and upon familiarizing myself with the pertinent details I'll organize times to speak to each of you at your convenience to take individual statements. Is there anything further you wish to add, Counselor?"
(Wow, really didn't see how long that was until it was posted, apologies for the longwindedness)

[Shuttle Bay: Time of Mini-Sal landing]
Chief Athgar gave a polite nod to the Captain and FO as they departed the shuttlebay, but the Gorn continued inward towards the returned shuttle. He helped move a couple of pieces of equipment out of the craft to be returned to their various storage rooms, but bowed out of the cleanup efforts once he spotted Andrus.
As the blue-skinned Tac/Sec officer came out of the Mini-Sal, Athgar slapped a scaly hand down on his left shoulder, "Nice work boss! Flew into enemy territory and got the Captain back without him or you getting shot. Not bad for your first time, sssir. Congratulationsss."

*************************************
[After the Savot/Chenzira exchange]
After leaving Sickbay the vulcan returned to his quarters to get cleaned up before attending to anymore official matters. Savot personally could ignore the collective grime of the past day or so but when serving in an administrative role a certain level of decorum needed to be maintained. So it was after a sonic shower and a change of uniform... and greeting his goldfish Alfred whilst replenishing the food in the fishtank... that Savot first returned to the El Salvador's bridge since before the diplomatic party first beamed down.
Upon entering the Ready Room the console showed he had several messages, one from Lt. Commander Delbridge that he set aside for later viewing, and one from their new Marine Colonel K'ratak. As he began to read the message he paused, and read first all of the official reports associated with the Meran victim whom Commander Jackson ordered Mr. Tralek to perform a mind meld on to retrieve what was hoped would be crucial evidence regarding the bombing. Tralek had sent his own report as was standard protocol whenever telepathic contact of any kind was utilized as part of a mission, and that report indicated no coercion by Commander Jackson regarding the meld.
That didn't surprise Savot, as a vulcan if Tralek had felt the situation suitably inappropriate for the application of a meld he would have refused regardless of any authoritative pressures used by a superior officer. Having caught himself up as fully as possible on what happened during his absence, the vulcan captain returned to K'ratak's message and read it to completion at which point he tapped his commbadge, =^=Savot to K'ratak, please report to the Ready Room at your earliest convenience.=^=
Apparently the Klingon had already been on the bridge for it took only seconds for the door to chime and Savot readily permitted the entry. "Greetings, Colonel. I regret our meeting on the surface was not the proper venue for introductions. I'm Captain Savot and I welcome you as an addition to the El Salvador crew; please have a seat." The last was said more in the form of an invitation for the Colonel to be comfortable rather than an order that would make it seem like he was on trial.
"I've read your message and I regret you were placed in an uncomfortable moral scenario; however, I respect your honesty with regard to your hesitance to obey Commander Jackson's orders. As I was not present and even now cannot be fully aware of all the factors that were at work it would be inappropriate of me to give an opinion on the matter. However, Commander Jackson has my full confidence or she would not have been appointed as this ship's First Officer. From what I have seen of her as well as her record as a Counselor I do not believe she of all people would consider another being's mental sanctity a frivolous matter."
"You said yourself you don't wish to analyze the matter to judge the rights or wrongs of it and I agree with your reasons and share them myself. However, if it is of any comfort to you, I believe the poisoned man would have wanted the chance to give us the information he possessed by whatever means available to him. It seems he wished to speak on the surface but was pressured by local authorities to remain silent, and upon being brought aboard to speak in safety he was poisoned to silence him permanently. Without our medical facilities I think it likely he would not have survived more than 2 to 3 minutes."
"And without a means of speaking to us directly, a method such as the mind meld was the only way to shed light on the conspiracy he was killed to keep hidden. Therefore, in this instance the meld allowed us to avenge his attack and give meaning to the sacrifice he was willing to make in order to try and help us discover the truth. So if it eases the burden of your conscience at all Colonel, I believe he would have agreed to the procedure."
"However, we cannot always allow ends to justify means. In this case I fully support Commander Jackson and I don't believe she would knowingly choose a moral wrong in any given scenario but as you've just joined us you understandably lack such guarantees as to the caliber of her honor. When you cannot have faith in an individual, you must have faith in their position and the institutions that appointed them to that position. There are exceptions of course but on the whole people do not reach command positions in Starfleet without possessing firm beliefs in compassion and decency, and since Commander Jackson is this ship's First Officer you must trust she was given that position with good reason."
"Every officer, but particularly one in your position, will likely face moments where the lives of the entire crew rest on your decisions or your carrying out of orders you've been given. Clearly we don't want officers to blindly follow orders without ever questioning things they find unnerving, but I'm sure you're well aware that in the field there is rarely time to debate or explain the full range of reasoning behind orders that we give, so we must be able to trust those we take orders from and believe in the purpose behind those orders. I firmly believe you can find that among this crew, but if you are unwilling to face the possibility of a situation that may give you doubts, I can understand that and will take no offense should you wish to transfer."

“They had no other choice…we arrest them and they are turned over to the Romulans they would have been executed as criminals.. Whether they were acting under orders or not…. Mr. Fire You have the bridge bring us around and prepare the shuttle bay to receive the Mini Sal.”
"USS El-Salvador - thiisin the mini El-Sal requesting permission to launch" Andrus radioed.
James watched as the officer replaced him at the helm and would stand in the middle of the bridge, "Helm bring us about." He tapped his comm badge, "Shuttle bay two open bay doors and prepare entry for the Mini Sal." He remained standing as he activated the comm system on the bridge, "El'Salvador to the Mini Sal shuttle bay doors are opened and we await your arrival."
.:.Present.:.
James had still been standing after the shuttle had reported on board still assuming command over the bridge and refusing out right to take the seat in the center. His arm still pained him from where the commander had grabbed him. He would not report the man for this he didn't want any trouble for him, and he was waiting his chance to hand the PADD in his other hand to the captain a request to transfer to engineering as the chief engineering officer.

Post by SA. Stacey Jackson [Ret] on Jun 24, 2009 18:07:50 GMT
Commander Stacey Jackson walked along deck two, and for the first time since Savot was first arrested she could afford the luxury of taking her time, something she was glad to be able to do again. After her slow walk she eventually made it to her quarters, stepping inside she smiled as she looked around.
Her quarters while not about to win any awards in beauty and decoration suited her. Walking into her small bathroom area she activated the sink, taking some water in her hands she splashed her face, in an effort to feel more alert and awake.
She walked out into the main area, and sat behind her work desk. She picked up the closest Padd to her and started to read it’s contents. She lifted her feet onto the desk as she leaned back and read into the super fascinating world of routine maintenance for plasma conduits.
She had been making an effort to try and learn as much as she could about starship operation since being promoted to First officer, after all her counselling years didn’t call for knowledge of how a warp core worked or how to fix it should it become damaged, but her new role did.
Unfortunately for her the will to learn was not as strong as her desire to sleep and after fifteen minutes of reading which to her felt like fifteen hours due to the rather dry reading material, she fell asleep the padd slipping out of her hand and onto the floor.
Undisturbed she would have stayed like that for hours but that was not to be.. thirty minutes since she fell asleep the door beeped and her eyes snapped open and her physical jerk caused her chair to fall backwards, still ‘sitting’ in the chair with her legs in the air and unable wriggle out herself as she was stuck in between the arms of her custom made chair she yelled. “Enter.”
She heard the door open but couldn’t see who walked in.
The young Engineering ensign stepped inside and looked around as he said. “Commander?”
Stacey sighed imagining how stupid she would looked and said. “behind the desk.” With a sense of embaresment in her voice.
She saw the young man peer over her desk and muffle a grin forming as he said. “What are you doing down there ma’am?”
She squinted as she replied. “I am getting to know every inch of the ship.. and I thought I would start with my quarters ceiling… help me up.”
The young ensign walked around the desk and held out a hand for Stacey to grab onto, Stacey grabbed it and with the help of the ensign pulled herself up.
As she straightened her hair, she asked. “Thank you, what can I do for you ensign.”
He still tried his best to hide the grin on his face as he held out a padd and said. “You requested information on the warp manifold system.. I pulled the data for you Ma’am.”
Stacey too the padd and gave him a small smile as she said. “Ah thank you ensign.. much appreciated.”
The ensign turned and left her quarters leaving Stacey red faced and holding another padd she wasn’t all that looking forward to reading.

Shuttle Bay: Time of Mini-Sal landing]
Andrus was the last to leave the min- El-Sal after she landed on the mother ship. He smiled as he saw his GORN Chief greet him. Andrus hac come to think highly of ther Gorn.
"Nice work boss! Flew into enemy territory and got the Captain back without him or you getting shot. Not bad for your first time, sssir. Congratulationsss" Chief Athgar told Andrus.
Smiling a bit sheepishly, Andrus replied "Thanks Chief - I figured I better not loose anyone" he added chuckling.

Inwardly, the adreneline was wearing off and Andrus wnated nothing more than some sleep. As teh pair headed out of the shuuttle bay, Andrus madea note to check in with tac officer on duty. He also wnated to have a mission review with teh Marine squad. They had lucked out - no casulaties.

OOC: the parts in green are by Captain Savot
“No captain, I have nothing to add, you made yourself perfectly clear.” That was something hard to do, for a Vulcan, Taita presumed, since they were generally extremely long-winded and overly detailed. Vulcans gave more information than was often desired, and this was no different.
Taita scowled after the Vulcan's retreating form, finding the man's ruling unjust and biased. Yet, he wasn't ready to add another complaint to the list. Still scowling, he too stalked out of the office, nearly running down Firestorm a second time.
Managing to reign in a hiss of surprise, Firestorm simply took a step back and reached to steady the obviously angry counselor. “Everything all right counselor?” he queried politely.
“Just peachy,” the Egyptian replied, making an effort to remain polite to the furred doctor. “How is the patient?”
The feline turned, beckoning the counselor, completely unaware of the order for the man to be off duty and just go amuse himself with a private past-time. “I'm not sure. He was severely weakened already when he was brought in. Someone poisoned him just before Colonel K'ratak was able to beam him to sickbay. The poison is fast working and there's nothing I can do.”
Taita noticed the cat's tail drooping slightly, and immediately a soft side he rarely showed kicked in. Almost gentle, he reached out for the cat's tail and stroked it as he would a pet cat's. “He's sedated? I'm not knowledgeable about poisons, but if an assassin was out for him, then by all rights he should be dead by now.”
Firestorm turned, bristling, while yanking his tail from the counselor's grasp. “He's sedated, heavily so. And I've pumped any anti-toxin I can find into him, provided they don't antagonise each other. He's slipping, and that mind meld has weakened him even further.”
Right before their eyes, the Meran's biosigns started to deteriorate rapidly, the indicators dropping until they finally reached the bottom. The biobed's signals beeped steadily, then became monotonous. Firestorm sighed and pulled the blanket all the way over the patient's form, then dictated the time of death to the computer.
Taita stood dumbstruck; he had never seen a corpse before. Timidly, he tapped his combadge. “Lieutenant Commander Chenzira to Captain Savot...”
Having just donned a fresh uniform following his sonic shower, Savot tapped his commbadge, =^=Savot here.=^=
“Captain, I regret to inform you that the Meran scientist has died.” The counselor's voice was shaking a little, and the brief hiss of a hypospray injection was heard. Taita swallowed a few times, nodding towards the doctor. “I don't think he suffered sir.”
Savot closed his eyes for a moment, mourning the loss of even one individual amidst the cosmic grand scheme, but replied quickly in a tone just slightly tinted somber, =^=Understood, Commander. Thank you for your report and your presence there."
“I will make arrangements for burial in the morning sir. Doctor Firestorm will prepare the body. If I am needed, I am in my quarters, as per your orders.” He signed off abruptly and turned to the Sivaoan.
Firestorm nodded in silence, wondering what the orders were that the counselor had been given. He'd seen him argue with the captain, though it appeared more so that the captain had been lecturing him on something. “I'll contact you in the morning counselor.” He watched the Human leave, noticing the slight difference in his appearance. He looked pale, even under his tanned skin, and he was clearly shaken. “Do you want anything to help you relax? I've just given you something to stimulate you, that is to keep you on your feet. You looked as though you were about to faint.” He held out a hypospray. “Inject yourself with this when you get to your quarters, it'll have you sleep for a few hours.”
Taita nodded in appreciation, for once looking at the cat in a different light. Alien or no, this creature obviously knew what he was doing and he hadn't expected that. “Thank you doctor.” The counselor turned on his heels and walked out of sickbay, leaving Firestorm behind to tend to the deceased.

After her duty shift, S'reena headed home to her quarters. She had been looking forward to spending some time with her family. However, when she arrived home, she found her entire family sound asleep. “I hate starship times and living on a planet's local time,” the Romulan grumbled, “they throw your entire sleeping pattern out of whack.” She threw off her uniform, stepped into the sonic shower and waited for the cycle to start up. A few minutes later, she was dressed in a fresh uniform. Walking back into the living room, she tapped her combadge. “Commander Jackson, are you available to join me in the mess for a meal?”
Stacey sat and was halfway through the most boring manual she had ever read when the comm. Badge came to life. Stacey jumped up when S’reena asked her if she was free for a meal. Anything was better than reading the padd and she was slightly hungry. She tapped her own badge and replied. “Sure am Commander I will meet you there.”
Pulling her uniform tunic and leaving her quarters Stacey made her way to the mess hall. Arriving five minutes later she looked around the gathered officers and spotted S’reena, she walked over and asked. “Everything okay S’reena?”
The Romulan had just sat down with a cup of coffee and looked up when Jackson approached, tilting her head to listen to the woman's footsteps. “Quarters are too quiet and my system's out of whack,” she replied sadly, “Michael and the children have gone to bed, and I'm hardly tired. Did anyone give you any trouble today?”
Stacey sat down and nodded as she agreed with their systems being out of whack, then the question of trouble came up Stacey sighed as she replied. “Well Counsellor Chinzera filed a complaint with Starfleet and I am sure he is complaining to Captain Savot right now .. but nothing I can’t handle.. I can’t make decisions based on how many people are going to be happy with me or not I needed to do what I thought was right.. and I did.”
She sighed again. “and I will deal with the consequences should there be any.. Good work retrieving Savot by the way
“The man is an idiot,” the Romulan scowled, “so caught up in his own bias that he doesn't see he's actually hurting feelings rather than mend them. He belongs in a library, not a counselor's office.” She paused, hearing the compliment. “It was my duty,” she replied, “and I would do it again, though perhaps try not to kill him instead.”
Stacey ran her hand through her hair, “Well I will keep an eye on his counselling sessions.. I have some idea of how to be a Counsellor.” Stacey took a sip of her tea before she looked behind her and out of the window. “Well hopefully there won’t be a next time.. we sure won’t be coming back to the Mera system anytime soon.” Taking another sip of her drink placed it back on the table and asked.
“So tell me.. why are you so resistant to take a Command position?.. you are certainly qualified.”
“I am,” the Romulan agreed, looking thoughtful, “but I don't think I'm ready just yet. Who would willingly follow a blind woman into battle? I can't see where the danger is coming from and I'll never be able to tell from the command seat, how many adversaries we're facing. On top of that, what adversary would take me seriously?” She paused, sipping her tea. “I almost shot Savot while staging his rescue, did he tell you that? I'm very glad that I missed, especially since I did warn him to step back. I missed the lock on the door on the first shot. If he hadn't gone out of the way...”
Stacey thought for a few seconds and even though she wanted her friend to have more confidence in herself Stacey did have to agree with what she had said. “I guess your right.. but from what I know about your little friends species.. the telepathic link will become stronger in time.. enough for you to effectively ‘see’ things.”
“Yes, I know. And she's learning, I just have to learn too. For now, I think away missions are sufficient. I don't really want to be left in command of the bridge just yet, and Savot has agreed to abide by my wishes, so long as it won't endanger the ship, and my experience isn't acutely and immediately needed in such a position. I need time to adjust. I'm slowly getting used to being blind, but it isn't easy for me.”
She nodded her betazoid black eyes fixed on the liquid in her mug she took a breath and said. “You know I thought I was going to miss being an instructor but I don’t really.. this last mission has showed me a lot of the crew are just cadets in an officers uniform.. I have high ranking people showing command staff a major lack in manners and a lack of respect.. I thought once I left teaching cadets behind that would stop but.. alas it didn’t.”
S'reena almost smiled. “There will always be bias,” she acknowledged, “and there'll always be people who slip through the proverbial mazes. Just like the counselor, though Yarna told me she didn't quite like that Miss Bars either. A screechy voice, if I recall correctly.” Now, she did smile. “Yarna was most enamoured with the captain, for his treatment of her. She told me it made her laugh, especially since Miss Bars' expression must've been priceless.” She finished her tea, then flagged for a waiter to order. “He has promised to set aside some time to play with her, she also reminds me often. He may be Vulcan, and as stoic as they come, but he's good with children. And Yarna is...special.”
Stacey rolled her eyes and chuckled a little. “Don’t get me started on Miss Bars.. a walking headache she is.. the tone of her voice cuts through me.” She smiled as S'reena spoke of Savot and Yarna. “Well if he promised to set aside some time.. I have no doubt he will.” Stacey’s comm. Badge beeped twice and Stacey looked up and said. “I am Sorry S’reena I have to go.. I promised to call Earth..Dean will get worried if I am even five minutes late.”
She stood up and said. “I will catch up with you later Commander.. enjoy your food.”
“Thank you commander. Say hello to Dean for me. Though we've never met, I'm sure he's heard of me by now.” She watched the first officer walk away, just as the waiter set her plate of pasta bolognese in front of her. The Romulan sighed, idly twirling the long strands of spaghetti around her fork. Would this day ever end? She wondered, would there ever be an end to the bias and bickering among some officers on the ship, or even within the fleet?

After K'ratak departed, Savot's door chimed again with little delay and this time it was Lieutenant Fire who graced the Ready Room. Savot welcomed their returned helmsman in and offered him a seat, while Fire offered him a datapadd request in exchange.
<Tag Fire's wording of the Engineering transfer request>
Savot's eyebrow rose a bit but he nodded, "I see. Your records indicate you'd fulfill the position adequately and as long as that proves accurate I have no conflict with you transferring between divisions. May I inquire as to your reasons for wanting the transfer?" The vulcan knew several hypothetical possibilities; for one the Engineering position allowed for a markedly faster promotion rate than a helmsman could expect, or Fire could just want to broaded his experiential horizons. However, the most logical course was for Savot to let the officer answer for himself rather than spend his own time guessing.
<Fire insert>
"Very well, consider yourself transferred to Engineering, Lieutenant. I'll have the Supply Officer arrange to replace your red shirts with those of engineering yellow", the vulcan captain entered his official confirmation of the transfer on the datapadd before handing it back to James. "However, before you begin duty in your new position there is a matter involving one Counselor Chenzira that must be settled first. His official complaint against you indicates you responded physically to his line of questioning in an effort to expell him from your quarters."
Savot's tone was neutral but with a sliver of understanding laced throughout since he knew Fire had had to deal with the deaths of team members, as that was what Chenzira had been questioning him about when the incident occurred. His hands rested on the surface of his desk with his fingers intertwined as he continued, "I am sorry for the deaths of your team members; the universe is lessened by their loss, and I grieve with thee. However, though I do not know the tone of questioning used by Mr. Chenzira and your own response is certainly understandable under the circumstances, physicality is not a viable option by which a Starfleet officer may solve his or her problems."
"Until I can make a final determination on the matter neither yourself or the Counselor will return to active duty, but I do not expect it will take long for me to reach a conclusion, and under the circumstances your record will most likely not be impacted largely in the negative sense. I have; however, received Chenzira's complaint, and as such if there are any details you wish to enter on your behalf you may do so at this time should you so desire", Savot then went quiet awaiting whatever words, if any, their new Engineer chose to enter into the record.

*******************************
[Following Fire's departure]
Alone once more in the Ready Room, Savot looked at the ship's chronometer noting it was rather late in the evening by ship's time. That in mind, he entered a textual message to be sent to Commander Jackson's terminal the next time she activated it.
Commander Jackson, First, contrary to whatever rumors reach you, please consider yourself fully able to assume active duty whenever you wish. Upon receiving Counselor Chenzira's complaint regarding yourself and another involving Lieutenant Fire I simply felt it best in the interests of neutrality to state that I'd have all 3 of you off-duty until a satisfactory conclusion had been reached. If there was some underlying issue at fault then having those involved continuing to perform their tasks may have resulted in further aggravating the situation or creating additional problems.
However, as I see it your complaint has already been addressed as much as possible in this venue, and I doubt the upper Command echelons will call your actions into question either. When you do resume duty, I'd like your opinion on an appropriate social event to hold for the ship's personnel. As the situation of late has been somewhat tense I felt both a period of relaxation for the ship's usual compliment as well as an opportunity for our newly acquired officers to settle in would be apropos. As you are clearly more socially experienced than myself I'll leave the organization of the event to you, though I do ask that a simultaneous means of child supervision be set up to allow those crew with offspring to attend the gathering without concern for their children's supervision.
Let me know what you come up with.
Respectfully, Captain Savot

After K'ratak departed, Savot's door chimed again with little delay and this time it was Lieutenant Fire who graced the Ready Room. Savot welcomed their returned helmsman in and offered him a seat, while Fire offered him a datapadd request in exchange.
Captain,
I would like to formally request a transfer from the Chief Navigation Officer of the USS E'Salvador to the Chief Engineering Officer of the USS E'Salvador.
Respectfully submitted,
Lieutenant James Fire
Savot's eyebrow rose a bit but he nodded, "I see. Your records indicate you'd fulfill the position adequately and as long as that proves accurate I have no conflict with you transferring between divisions. May I inquire as to your reasons for wanting the transfer?" The vulcan knew several hypothetical possibilities; for one the Engineering position allowed for a markedly faster promotion rate than a helmsman could expect, or Fire could just want to broaded his experiential horizons. However, the most logical course was for Savot to let the officer answer for himself rather than spend his own time guessing.
James had expected this question of the Commanding Officer and by looking into his eyes he could tell that Captain Savot had already began guessing the possible reasons. James' head dipped towards his feet for a moment then he would look back up towards his Commanding Officer, "Captain I desire the transfer because of a promise I made to a friend... A friend who entered Starfleet when I did, and became an engineering officer... He was...um...killed in the line of duty three months ago." He took a long drawn deep breath, "And, we had promised each other to go into the other's career line if anything should happen to said individual.. The reasons for this promise are....complicated."
James had only slightly expected Chenzira to make a formal complaint about him, but nevertheless it was to late to really expect the unexpected any longer. He would roll up his sleeve showing the bruise to Captain Savot, "His questioning techniques are a bit harsh sir." His voice seemed calm and even never showing anger, or any emotion he'd felt enough of that in the last few months that he was to the point of numbness.
He rolled his sleeve down once more, "I admit I did rush him out of my quarters may have roughed him a bit sir, but Commander Jackson called all senior officers to the bridge and he wouldn't leave. I did answer his questions although I really didn't feel like talking about it I mean it had just happened. I'm not really one to talk about things like that. However, I do not wish to put in a complaint about him I have nothing against anybody him included."
After his report he would return to his quarters to find Belanna waiting for him inside. A smile would cross his features as he sat down next to her and they would begin to talk about a great many things including Riley...

He listened to what the captain and had said and felt a little better about not going any futher with his report. The captain and put things in a better prospective for him that would allow his honor to remain clean.
" You of course are quite right Captain and I agree because of the short time on the ship. That I was at a disadvantage on Commander Jaskcons reasoing it was why I didn't wish to file any reports on the matter. I haven't been aboard long enough to know her well enough to question her motives and thought it best to refrain from comment. I will watch and learn and I have no desire to transfer at this time." <Tag Savot>
He left the ready room a little happier about his choice to stay and not press anything. He still had alot of work to do and needed to get settled in. He tapped his combadge " Commander Hope if you have time I would like to meet with you. Its been awhile and would like to catch up if possible. It is not a offical request but a social one not to mention " as he chuckled a little " I never knew Romulans could blush" <Tag Hope>
